and broadcasting live from Dallas Cowboys World headquarters at the Star.
Now your host Nicole Hutchison.

Speaker 3 (00:31):
Psych again.

Speaker 4 (00:32):
Hey guys, jesstav Our is here with Free and Aisha.
We are here for Girls Talkboys Talk live at the Storm,
Frisco at SWBC Podcast Studio.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Ladies, first of all, how how is your week?

Speaker 4 (00:47):
It's been a whole weeks.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Missed you being here on Tuesdays. It ruins my whole week,
do you know what? But I was gonna get here.

Speaker 5 (00:54):
We missed you too.

Speaker 4 (00:55):
I'm glad you got here. Let me just say, breeze.
Dedication to get here was unmad.

Speaker 6 (01:00):
These flights at the airports, they're real risky. But I
got a six thirty am flight and it was on time.

Speaker 4 (01:06):
He when you do it, hop off the plane at
lax more like w But you know all right, uh
my hands up?

Speaker 3 (01:14):
Okay, So I miss y'all. Well, you know it's real stupid.

Speaker 4 (01:20):
It's being a millennial in these times in Dallas, because
not only did we have to watch Zach Martin retire
this offseason, now Tyron Smith uh set to sign a
one day contract with the Dallas Cowboys, officially closing the
NFL chapter after fourteen seasons. Ladies' initial thoughts on this
news we shocked.

Speaker 7 (01:41):
Are we not?

Speaker 3 (01:41):
Kind of what you said?

Speaker 6 (01:42):
Because on the drive here, really Yeah, what like imagine
someone telling you a time ago that in the same
year Zach Martin Art Smith will both retire. But I
mean it also, it's got to be kind of like
a drive or like a little bit of fire for
who's next, because now I feel like you're.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
There's a new era to come here a line.

Speaker 6 (02:04):
And we talked about the youth and the development and
the excitement of who's in now on the coaching staff.
So I think it's an exciting time for this organization.
But also it's that bittersweet, especially for those who've been
here a long time covering and seeing the team transition.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
We've been out.

Speaker 6 (02:20):
It's part of the game, but it's a sad part
of the game. These are human beings that we become
close with. Yeah, it's a beautyful what we do. Yeah,
I think for me it is also too.

Speaker 8 (02:29):
I echo a free sentiment that it is kind of
bittersweet because you know, you wanted to continue to see
them play. And I feel like I speak for myself
when I say that I didn't get into understanding the
depth of offensive line play and what they have to
do until later on, So now that I have an

(02:51):
appreciation for it, I wish I could have seen more
of them. That's the selfish side of things, I know. Obviously,
we're both all very happy that these gentlemen are taking
that next step into their lives and being able to
explore different sides of themselves than maybe they weren't able
to do as they were doing their career. So very bittersweet,
glad that Dallas is allowing him to that they signed him.

(03:12):
This is very classy for them to do it this way,
especially with his reputation here and what he did for
this organization. So if it is gonna happen, this is
probably the best way for it to happen is here
in Dallas.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
Absolutely.

Speaker 4 (03:25):
He spent thirteen seasons with the Cowboys one with the Jets.
He was a five time All Pro to first team
eight time Pro Bowler. Interestingly enough, he started it right tackle,
shifting over to left tackle to protect Tony Romo's blindside
his rookie season. During the course of his season, he
allowed thirty nine career sacks over fourteen seasons, according to

(03:47):
Pro Football Focus, and he also had ending his career
with an eighty nine point zero pass blocking grade and
in ninety point eight run blocking grade. Obviously a monster
on the field. I think something that sticks out for
me was.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
Aisha.

Speaker 4 (04:04):
We got to talk to him in the locker room
when he was still here, and he was one of
the most intimidating guys to go talk to because he
stands up and like, Ayisha and I are little shorties
over here, Like you're pretty much looking at a skyscraper
of this man, and he's so intimidated, and go up
to and then you start talking to him and he's
talking about his dogs and you're like, oh wait, like

(04:26):
you're dogs too.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
That's cool.

Speaker 4 (04:29):
And I did see him at an event during Super
Bowl Sunday and I was like, hey, how are He's
like refreshed, So now that answer kind of comes full circle.
Curious to know when he decided to make that decision,
But yeah, it is bittersweet and to your point, Bri,

(04:50):
a new chapter for offensive linemen across the NFL with
you know, the Zach Martins, the Jason Kelsey's, just all
the big o life names kind of closing those chapters.
Who and I'll open this not just cowboys. Who are
some of the guys on the come up across the NFL.
It can be Cowboys, NFC.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
East, AFC.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
I don't know that come to your mind when you
think of guys that are on track to have their
names etched in stones, such as Tyron Smith.

Speaker 6 (05:23):
I think when we're talking about offensive tackle, that position
is so like rare. I think that's why this announcement
is so bittersweet, because like, who is matching the game
to that capacity? I guess I'm biased because I come
from obviously we know I went from Buffalo, where they
also have they turned into I should say, a very
strong offensive line.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
But Dion Dawkins is a name that really sticks out.

Speaker 6 (05:46):
He's very compare if you're in Buffalo. I've never seen
offensive lineman get so much love in a city that's
not a quarterback, that's a player that's not a quarterback
like he is very out and spoken, and he's done
something that a lot of people haven't done. Signed a
big contract, one of the highest players on the team,
and he's only in football. He's what of the old

(06:09):
man because he's thirty one.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
I hate foot, but.

Speaker 6 (06:13):
I definitely think he's towards that Hall of Fame type
of vibe. And here when I look at it, I
look at Tyler Smith like he's on the road to
be the next one.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
And I think, even though I didn't get.

Speaker 6 (06:27):
To cover Tyer Smith, he was gone before I got here,
I know exactly who it was, right because that's part
of the staple of the Cowboys. And then also talking
to Tyler Smith, he talks about his game and how
it got to there because he was able to play
alongside and learn from. So that's how I know of
Tyer Smith, unlike you guys who are actually you know,
getting to sit there and talk to him and get
to know him as a person.

Speaker 8 (06:48):
Yeah, when you talk about specifically the tackle position, I
think about a guy like Christian darre Saw that you
know a place for the Vikings, like he is an
up and coming tackle that is gaining a lot of
respect through the league. I think about it, guy like
Pina Seuel, who we know is one of the best
tackles in the league as well.

Speaker 5 (07:04):
And then obviously you brought.

Speaker 8 (07:05):
Up Tyler as an up and coming guard. I'm sure,
I'm sure there's a plethora of guys that we can name,
but to breast point it to your point, yeah, just
like we kind of have seen a changing in the
guard from the quarterback position, like because as a millennials,
some of our great some of our favorites are no
longer playing this game, some of our favorite wide receivers

(07:26):
are no longer playing these games. As a matter of fact,
as of late, we've seen more of our pivotal kickers
in the NFL start going through that that transitional phase.
So it where again where it's like disheartening a little
bit to see them falling out of their prime. You
do get excited about seeing who's gonna be the next guy,

(07:46):
Who's gonna be that guy? And I think from even
from a kicking position, we might have one of them
here on the in the NFL, on the Cowboys. So
that's but that's that what it That doesn't happen until
that transition happens, you know, until until somebody is willing
to take a step down and another person comes in.

Speaker 5 (08:03):
So yeah, it's a lot of up and coming talent
in this game.

Speaker 8 (08:07):
And for people that do what we do, it gives
us an opportunity to expand and to look through the
NFL and and look at the other guys that are
up and coming to and not just be so centralized
to what happens in this building.

Speaker 4 (08:19):
You know, something that Tyron Smith kind of had follow
him throughout the last course of his career was the
injury history and not having played a full season since
twenty fifteen. And you know, I know Mike McCarthy did
this rotational veterans day off system with him that seemed
to bode pretty well when he was here. But to

(08:40):
your point I usua about learning more about this position,
I think it. You know, it goes sometimes unrecognized how
much these guys' bodies go through at that tackle, just
that offensive line in general, just hit hit after hit.
And so when you have a guy like Terrence Stell
who doesn't miss a game and gets a lot of

(09:02):
flak for you know, not having the perfect PFF grade,
and you know, it is hard to do. It is
hard to withstand a full season as an offensive lineman.
So that brings me to my next question for y'all.
The depth in the offensive line room that the Cowboys
have right now. I know we've talked about it on
the show a little bit before, you know, possibly drafting

(09:24):
more depth there, and of the depth that you have
right now in that room, who do you feel the
most sure of is going to have you know, a
better season this year with some of those opportunities to
be more of a backup swing, you know, whether it
be a guard or a tackle. Who do you feel
like has that opportunity?

Speaker 6 (09:45):
I feel like I almost want to let I used
to take this only because I feel like you've take
You've talked about it so much about every time I
joke about, Hey, how y'all gonna feel when they take
that a line verse around?

Speaker 3 (09:57):
I love that you can be all right, but you've.

Speaker 6 (09:59):
Talked about the depth and how across the league this
is actually one of the positions that is kind of
a courtesy, is not the word fortunate?

Speaker 3 (10:10):
Luxury? Luxury.

Speaker 6 (10:11):
That's good, right, because what I saw in my first
season with the Cowboys, there was never and I've talked
to a few players about there was never a real
chance for continuity with that group because somebody was always injured.
And I know, you know, when you it's easy to
be like, oh we got two rookies on the old line.

Speaker 9 (10:29):
That's not really what I saw is the issue.

Speaker 6 (10:32):
I just saw not enough and McCarthy always that opportunity.
I feel like I'm fillian, but there wasn't that opportunity
because of the continuity.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
Somebody was always down.

Speaker 6 (10:41):
But I will say it also showed that when others,
some other people stepped in, it wasn't like it wasn't huh,
I can't. I feel like, can I say, shot to
Hill it wasn't that, It wasn't that, and they would
step in.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
I think, so, how do you how do you feel?
Because I feel like out.

Speaker 6 (11:00):
The depth for the offensive, I think it's one of
the positive things going into the season.

Speaker 8 (11:03):
To be honest, I agree, Uh, oddly enough, I felt
like we felt like that last year too. I think
I remember distinctively feeling like that last year. But I
think you have a little bit more proven depth from
that standpoint.

Speaker 5 (11:17):
As far as like you've seen TJ.

Speaker 8 (11:19):
Bass, You've seen Brockoffin step in and start in that
type of stuff. So that makes you a little bit,
you feel a little bit better. I think the tackle
position to me is the most important personally because to
your point, Teren Steele, I'm just look, I'm just looking
at the camera again. Karen Steele has not missed a

(11:42):
single game in two seasons coming off of an a
cl injury.

Speaker 5 (11:49):
It is a beautiful thing. It is, y'all just so superstitious.
I ain't gotten a.

Speaker 4 (12:00):
Caravan knocked on, but Terrence Steele.

Speaker 8 (12:06):
We have not found anyone that is a right tackle
depth guy that that we know for sure that can
do that. And obviously we saw awesome Richard steppin last
year had some good reps. Do they look at him
as the swing you spoke you know, very highly of
too many doga He's not here as well, so you
don't have that to fall upon.

Speaker 3 (12:26):
So it's like, I think.

Speaker 8 (12:27):
I'm more worried about the exterior death depth when it
comes to things. Obviously, Uh, Tyler guiding is you know
expected to I'm sure to have improvements this year. You
also have Nathan Thomas, who we didn't get to see
much of last year that's waiting in the wings. It's
a lot of like we gotta see it to your point.
I gotta see I gotta see it. Now you are

(12:50):
getting one of the better to me offensive line coaches
in the NFL coming in to shore this up. So
it's like, how do they adjust to the new teaching?
How do they adjust to the new technique? Because what
Salari had them doing it? Because sometimes it is that simple.
Sometimes it is what you're being coached or whatever. Maybe
you're not receiving it as well. So I want to

(13:12):
have confidence in the depth moving forward.

Speaker 5 (13:14):
But I'm also like, I don't.

Speaker 8 (13:17):
We still don't know what it's gonna look like because
we don't know how receptive these guys are gonna be
to the teaching that they're getting. Now, is the teacher
that they're getting is it been proven?

Speaker 5 (13:25):
Yeah, sure we have evidence that this person is not
how to coach.

Speaker 8 (13:28):
But yeah, to answer your question, the depth, the depth
is something where I think the interior depth is something
I think we can live with as of right now. Now,
do you still need to go get someone in the drivet? Sure,
they brought in Charles. I'm not gonna butcher his first name,
you know, I say, Charles, the gentleman from the Titans
that retired.

Speaker 5 (13:47):
But the Cowboy was just signed for a one year deal.

Speaker 4 (13:49):
Huh.

Speaker 5 (13:50):
I don't want to butcher y'all.

Speaker 3 (13:52):
It's I tried.

Speaker 8 (13:54):
I looked up numerous ways to like pronunciation guys, and
Sahadi sadik I think, so that's what Charles so sad Charles.
I've heard a lot of sorry for them. No, it's
our job to know.

Speaker 5 (14:14):
We got tried.

Speaker 3 (14:15):
We will get that salt.

Speaker 8 (14:17):
Yes, So Sadi Charles came out of retirement, is now
signed with the Cowboys for a year.

Speaker 5 (14:25):
What are we gonna get out of him?

Speaker 10 (14:26):
Like?

Speaker 3 (14:26):
What what?

Speaker 8 (14:27):
What position flex do they think he has or whatever
the case may be. So they're kind of adding guys,
kind of throwing things at the wall, and we're not
gonna know if it works into training camp. But I
agree that the continuity on the offensive line needs to
be a priority, especially with your quarterback coming back from
a pretty nasty injury.

Speaker 5 (14:41):
A pleast protect that at.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
All calls protect that quarterback.

Speaker 4 (14:44):
And I'm glad you all brought that up because coming
up after the break, we heard from Jack Prescott it's
a little injury update. Uh, and Micah showed up two
off season workouts.

Speaker 3 (14:55):
We'll get into that after.

Welcome back to Girls Talk, Boys Talk, presented by invis
aligne Jessprey and Ah Ladies. We were talking about the
offensive line. We wanted to do some finishing thoughts on that.
Wrap up thoughts about that, and I had one more
thought pop into my head about Tyrone Smith's retirement.

Speaker 3 (18:11):
So let's get into that.

Speaker 4 (18:12):
Asha, What did you want to add in there from
your last point?

Speaker 8 (18:16):
Oh, no, Bride just mentioned that there was another gentleman's
an unknown. Well you were talking about there was so
many stuff that we don't know, we don't see, And
I was like, we signed someone free agency and we
had that conversation and it was like, what can he
really do?

Speaker 5 (18:28):
Yeah, can't.

Speaker 6 (18:29):
In my opinion, it was like, well, at the time,
it was like, he can't hurt the situation, but will
he elevate the situation? I think that goes to the
depth And.

Speaker 5 (18:37):
Yeah, I don't know. I'm not sure.

Speaker 8 (18:39):
And from looking at Robert Jones' offensive guard out of
from the Dolphins, not sure how much he brings, but
he is a depth piece that they brought in. He
has some good power when he initiates contact. I think
he has a pretty good latch and seal. He allowed
twenty eight pressures last year. He can be a little
slow footed, and I I don't know how that is

(19:01):
gonna work in a Clayton Adams system.

Speaker 5 (19:03):
He is gonna want these offensive linemen to get.

Speaker 8 (19:06):
On the move and get in space and be able
to be athletics. So I'm assuming again, like if he's
a depth piece in case Hoffman does end up being
the starter at right guard, I'm assuming so he does
have some flex he can do.

Speaker 5 (19:22):
He can play left guard, right guard as well.

Speaker 3 (19:24):
TJ.

Speaker 8 (19:25):
Bass is coming off of a pretty major quad injury
he had last year.

Speaker 5 (19:29):
Is he gonna be the same guy?

Speaker 8 (19:31):
Because we've seen him grow, but is he gonna be
the same guy or is he met his ceiling? Just
a lot of questions. They better draft an offensive lineman,
but please not at twelve.

Speaker 4 (19:40):
Thanks, he's just still team wide receiver at twelve or
running back.

Speaker 3 (19:47):
It's just not anything else right now.

Speaker 8 (19:49):
Something skilled position. I beg of the help my quarterback
out score all the points, make people play catch up
with you.

Speaker 4 (19:57):
I'm glad you brought up your quarterback. That's not good
it Dak Prescott. And to kind of loop these two
conversations together, something that I saw on Twitter when being
spoken about Tyrone's retirement is the pain in Cowboys Nation's
hearts to see Zach Martin and now Tyron Smith kind

(20:17):
of retire without a super Bowl or at least a
legit playoff run to get to that point and that's
something I'm sure we can all agree we don't want
for Dak Prescott going into the later half of his
career now. Something that's looming over Dak Prescott right now

(20:38):
is if he'll be ready for the start of the season,
if he'll be ready for camp, if you want to
get a little sooner than that because of his off
season surgery. He spoke to some reporters over the weekend
at a cancer fundraising event that happens here in Dallas.
It's a great event. Troy Aikman was there. I think
he was a co chair of it. Tony Romo made

(20:58):
a little appearance. So quarterback trio there. Sounds fun. But
here's what Dak had to say about his latest injury update.

Speaker 3 (21:04):
You kind of change maybe the way you're attacking you
rehab this time around, or reevaluated it at.

Speaker 14 (21:09):
All or no, no necessarily. I mean you're talking different injuries,
whether you're talking the ankle to the thumb to a
hand me off the bone. That it's about following the team.
If I following up pet Luke Miller and the plan
that we put together and the doctor and doctor Brahm,
and I'm excited about where I am. If I had
to play a game today, I definitely could do that.

(21:29):
So it's about moving forward healthy to make sure I
can play seventeen when the times twenty whatever, that we
get to when the time's right.

Speaker 4 (21:39):
Shout out to Joe's points from DLS Sports for that
little SoundBite question all the good stuff from Joe.

Speaker 3 (21:47):
Ladies.

Speaker 4 (21:48):
Thoughts on Dak's response to that, How do you feel
about it? Do you feel like that's just his Dak
Prescott answer or do you feel.

Speaker 3 (21:55):
Like that's legit?

Speaker 9 (21:58):
Would you say listen this and Linda?

Speaker 4 (22:02):
Linda, First of all.

Speaker 6 (22:06):
I credit Dak because he handles if he handles us.

Speaker 3 (22:10):
When I say us, I mean the media very very well. Yeah,
he does. But let's just say hypothetically.

Speaker 6 (22:15):
Now this is not this is not the situation, but
let's just say hypothetically.

Speaker 3 (22:19):
He's got a little paid.

Speaker 6 (22:20):
He don't feel like he's gonna be ready to day
when you think he's really gonna sit there and tell us,
no that I don't really you know what, want to
do this.

Speaker 3 (22:28):
No, he's not going to do that.

Speaker 6 (22:29):
I said, I feel like he said everything he's supposed
to say and excite Cowboys Nation for the season and say,
if I you know, right now it feels time to go, yep,
I'll be ready to go. Easier said than done.

Speaker 3 (22:40):
That's what you want to hear. And I saw him
at Zach Martin's retirement.

Speaker 6 (22:45):
He seemed to be, you know, goofy, funny, good spirits,
moving quite well. But we sat there for a long time,
and I do remember him was like, oh, I need
to like get up, and you know, like I don't
feel like he's one hundred percent, and I don't expe
I didn't expect to one hundred percent. I didn't expect
him to be one hundred percent when we go to
ox Star Report day one, and I think I'm okay

(23:06):
with not as much as you want your QB.

Speaker 9 (23:08):
One, I don't want to see him there.

Speaker 6 (23:10):
So we could see him in September, and then we
don't have him the second half of the season again
when it matters most.

Speaker 3 (23:16):
That's just how I feel about.

Speaker 5 (23:17):
No, And I don't disagree with you feeling that way.
The hard part about.

Speaker 3 (23:20):
That is that same as last people are missing that need.

Speaker 8 (23:24):
To be there, you're going into a new install. You're
installing a whole new offense again. You got a new
offensive coordinator. He's supposed to spearhead that. So it's also
like I one hundred percent agree with you as far
as like him being ready when he's ready, and that
we have to be patient with that. The reason why
I threw my pen is when he was the fact

(23:48):
that because to me, and this is outside looking in,
one of the biggest things we look at in football
when I'm evaluating a player is depending on the position,
is flexibility and how loose they are. Dak has never
been a loose player. He has always been a little
bit more stiff, a little bit more. He's really strong physically,

(24:10):
but given the injury and the fact that, again I
think his mobility is not only imperative to him as
a player, but I think it's going to be imperative
to his this system as well. This is Clayton Adams
is coming from a system in which he had Kyler Murray.
He used Kyler Murray's mobility to the benefit and that

(24:31):
benefited the run game. Every team that you see that
has a running quarterback, they benefit from that you have
a running quarterback.

Speaker 5 (24:40):
This is a key part of what he does.

Speaker 8 (24:43):
I don't like whatever he is doing and focusing on
I hope that it is to improve his looseness and
the flexibility in his hips and all of those things,
and that if he is going to be mobile, that
that is something that he's putting at the forefront of
his training and things like that. Joseph asked a fantastic question.

(25:04):
I would have been like, so, what do you mean
by that?

Speaker 9 (25:06):
Like so well.

Speaker 8 (25:11):
Because to me, as someone that has watched this game,
You've watched this game, You've watched this game.

Speaker 5 (25:18):
His mobility is literally what sets.

Speaker 8 (25:20):
Him apart his intellect obviously the IQ, but he's what
his mobility and what he's able to do on the
move is why he is the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys,
what he's able to do as an improviser, what he's
able to do. And so for me, I'm just like,
I want to know what he is doing to preserve
that part of his game because it can't be buried.

Speaker 5 (25:43):
It can't be buried just because of an injury.

Speaker 8 (25:45):
And I'll finish off saying this that every athlete that
I've talked to about ham strings, even if you listen
to NBA players talk about ham strings, track players, track
runners talk about ham strings.

Speaker 5 (25:55):
They are one of the.

Speaker 8 (25:56):
Hardest mental mental injuries to come back from because it
is such a nagging, tweaking thing, and we have seen
players that once they have a hamstring injury, they are
never the same. And I'm really hoping that to your point, Breed,
he takes the time to mentally get the confidence to
trust that leg and I understand that's gonna take time.

(26:19):
So that's another reason I'm trying to be patient about it,
because hamstrings are no joke. And baby you're talking about
is looking like you at Hutchin's barbecue.

Speaker 6 (26:29):
You love to get a shout out to the ball
every week we're talking about barbecue.

Speaker 3 (26:33):
I'm just saying, I think we need to go get you.

Speaker 8 (26:35):
Barbara said it literally was not attached to the like
when you talk about something that serious, it's gonna take
time to have confidence and not having that anymore, so I'm, oh, lord,
I just want to know what he is going to Yes,
we need to praise somebody, need to do something like
what is he doing to make sure to make sure

(26:58):
that he's confident as a runner again, because we've seen
that even before the injury, they saw the lack of
confidence as a runner, and I think that's important to
his game, and I.

Speaker 5 (27:10):
The tied I can't take.

Speaker 6 (27:12):
I don't think that's I wonder how much coming into
because there's a lot of I just can't I think
the only down fall, if you will, I think from
having Brian Schottenheimer here and not getting a new what
I feel like the com there's like some level of
comfort where shot He's gonna let Dak be the old

(27:34):
Dak that we saw this season, but I.

Speaker 5 (27:36):
Think Clayton might push him. I think Clayton's I.

Speaker 9 (27:39):
Just wonder how much Clayton has over in that room.

Speaker 4 (27:43):
We don't know what the what what not, logistics, the
oh man, what am I thinking?

Speaker 5 (27:50):
The responsibility delegations are, Okay, what the.

Speaker 4 (27:53):
Delegations will be with this coaching system. Because we knew
how McCarthy worked right, and we knew what the delegations
were with that coaching era, we don't know what this
one is.

Speaker 3 (28:02):
So that's a great point of bringing up.

Speaker 4 (28:04):
I think with Dak's injury and I kind of hate
the term, you know, injury history, because every single injury
he has had doesn't connect to the other one. Like
the ankle was a freak accident that was not supposed
to ever happen like that.

Speaker 3 (28:24):
The thumb was another weird just popped.

Speaker 4 (28:27):
To the finger that I did too, Untie, I mentioned
it the helmet, you know, So there, it's not like
this repeated injury, this nagging injury that has kept him
from being mobile. So for me, what I do wonder
is the extent of this injury, what percentage if you

(28:48):
will Dak feels comfortable being mobile, and it's not going
to be like old older or I guess younger Dak
older days, right, because that's just the progression of a
quarterback getting old. But I wonder what he's going to
feel comfortable doing. The looser he gets, the more football
shape he's able to get in. Because there's been a

(29:09):
lot of speculation this offseason that he's lost weight.

Speaker 3 (29:12):
He confirmed he hasn't.

Speaker 4 (29:14):
But you have to work out differently when you're rehabbing
a hamstring. You don't get to have the luxury of
going on a run to keep your body warm and fit.
He had to figure out, I'm sure, different ways to
work out to stay in shape. And even then it's
not football shape. We talk about this all.

Speaker 3 (29:29):
The time on here. It's a different stamina.

Speaker 6 (29:32):
It's get some weight, yeah, I don't feel like he
was less snatch like everybody was ting.

Speaker 4 (29:36):
I just feel like we're not going to know, honestly
how mobile he is until later in the season, If
not honestly, guys, until next season. Like, oh, I hate
to be the bear of bad news, but hold on,
hold my hand, hold my hand.

Speaker 3 (29:55):
If you get a running back.

Speaker 4 (29:56):
At twelve, you might not need a mobile quarter back.
You can have a run game and then guess what,
that opens up a pass game where you can get the.

Speaker 3 (30:05):
Ball equally distributed everywhere. He doesn't. What's so exciting?

Speaker 4 (30:11):
I think that going into the season can hold for
Cowboys fans and everybody. If you want an optimist point
of view, you have a chance to have a complete
offense that you haven't seen in the last couple of years,
complete with a running game and a full force passing game.
Tight ends included in that because you missed that. But ladies,

(30:32):
what do you feel like needs to be a threshold
Dak Prescott hits before you're ready to see him be
a little more mobile? Like what do you feel like
the offense needs to do for Dak Prescott to be Like, Okay,
he's feeling a little healthier we're a little more into
the season at this point. What makes you feel comfortable
with Dak Prescott being a more mobile quarterback as much

(30:54):
as he can be at this age and point in
his career. Is I'm hitting you with all the good
ones today.

Speaker 3 (30:59):
I think, is he thinking that far? Is he doing
hot yoga?

Speaker 4 (31:03):
They all look Look if one thing we know that
locker room loves some hot yoga.

Speaker 3 (31:08):
They do. They love yoga. A bunch of yogi's in there.

Speaker 5 (31:12):
Yogi.

Speaker 3 (31:15):
Yeah, I mean that's a loaded question.

Speaker 9 (31:18):
There's a lot of pieces of moving apart.

Speaker 4 (31:20):
Like if you have to like a solid old line,
a solid run game, I would I think it all starts.

Speaker 6 (31:24):
It starts a front. It all starts up front. And
I like how he stood by Cooper BB hands down.
You know he was going through his little and he
was just like, nope, he does this, he does that.

Speaker 3 (31:35):
And I love Dak as the leader.

Speaker 6 (31:37):
But at the end of the day, you saw the
production of having the not continuity that we were saying
in there.

Speaker 8 (31:45):
So the end of the day, it got you.

Speaker 9 (31:49):
It takes over your.

Speaker 4 (31:50):
Body realize you're doing it. You just and at the
end of the day, just at the end of the
day you don't even realize starts.

Speaker 3 (32:00):
It starts up front. Period. You have to.

Speaker 6 (32:02):
You don't want your QB feeling like he's fighting for
his life.

Speaker 9 (32:05):
Like I said, he handles it well in front of
the meeting.

Speaker 6 (32:07):
He's not gonna tell us that he's not where he's
supposed to be or I don't feel but he's got
to feel protected. And I just don't see it happening
right away regardless, because we saw what happened right away
from his last injury, even though.

Speaker 9 (32:19):
They weren't the same thing. It's a freak accident.

Speaker 6 (32:21):
It's scary, and I just want to leave him alone
with his weight because listen, I lost a cool fifteen
pounds when I had my AH, it's natural. Let him
build it up. I'm not worried about that at all.

Speaker 5 (32:33):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm not really worried about his frame
and all.

Speaker 4 (32:36):
You can't use the offensive line because she did so
something else that needs to be sure stout before you
see you feel confident in Dak Prescott being more mobile
and him being more mobile and safe to be more mobile.

Speaker 8 (32:48):
I think it would be like we talked about before,
having an established run game. As far as like having
a steady running back that actually is a threat as well,
because again, Derrick Henry late Lamar was was booming, but
maybe when Darrin Henry got there, it got a little
bit more. It got a little bit more wicked because
the people have to respect, people have to respect the

(33:11):
running back, and in turn that opens up things for
if Dak does decide to pull it and know that
threat is there and defenses have to honor that. For me,
I'm not looking for it, And even when I talk
about Dive being mobile, I'm not asking for him to
just run the ball consistently and that be something that's
intricate in this offensive scheme.

Speaker 5 (33:30):
I more so feel like the lack of threat of
that now takes.

Speaker 8 (33:34):
Away not only from your offense, but it takes away
from your game. And so that's the thing that I
think is gonna be important as well moving forward. So
for me, the threshold is them drafting a running back.
You already kind of put a running back room together
a little bit.

Speaker 5 (33:51):
We don't know yet, but it kind of looked like
you're doing something.

Speaker 8 (33:53):
I'm looking for Javonte, girl, I'm looking for Javonte.

Speaker 5 (33:57):
I'm looking for Javonte.

Speaker 8 (33:58):
If there's a real threat it at that position, then
maybe yes, and we'll see it changes a lot and
we will start to see him hopefully be a little
bit more open to being mobile.

Speaker 5 (34:11):
Moving forward.

Speaker 6 (34:12):
So yeah, yeah, I wonder, Sorry I need to cut
you off at all. I was just thinking, going back
to Oxnar, what it looks like.

Speaker 3 (34:20):
There's a baby deck behind you. They're showing.

Speaker 4 (34:23):
Uh, let's see top ten Rookie honorable mentions here on
NFL Network right now, and you see baby Dack and
baby Zeke just making place.

Speaker 3 (34:34):
Look.

Speaker 4 (34:35):
Look, oh wow, that's so fun to watch. We got
to move forward, I mean you mean having a running back.
And then I find out you see a screen game
and you see I'm not sure it wasn't.

Speaker 8 (34:45):
Clayton does screen game guys like, don't be discourged.

Speaker 3 (34:49):
Don't be discourged?

Speaker 4 (34:50):
All right, Well on that, No, we're gonna take our

All right, Girls talkboys talk. We are back, Bree Aisha Jess.
All right, lady, let's switch gears. We were talking a
little offense. Let's talk defense. Let's give some defensive injury updates,
slash updates in general.

Speaker 3 (38:08):
Because you know what I was so excited about this week.

Speaker 4 (38:11):
You know, it started my week off just so well,
and it was not Katy Perry going to space. Let
me I was cleb justify or clarify. It was the
fact that we did not have to hear the constant
echoing of reports of Micah Parsons not reporting to day

(38:34):
one of voluntary practices on Monday.

Speaker 3 (38:38):
Why because he was here.

Speaker 4 (38:41):
It just made my week to know we didn't have
to hear about it.

Speaker 3 (38:45):
Ladies, what are your thoughts on this?

Speaker 4 (38:47):
And I know we had kind of touched base on
if he didn't come to the voluntary practices.

Speaker 3 (38:53):
You know what we thought about it.

Speaker 4 (38:54):
What message does this send of Micah coming to the
voluntary you know, off season.

Speaker 3 (39:02):
Workouts and everything. What is he.

Speaker 4 (39:08):
What signal is he sending out to the world in
space and everything? Cowboys Nation, his teammate's the star, anything else?

Speaker 3 (39:20):
Everybody?

Speaker 6 (39:21):
I think it For me, it's I was like, like
you said, it was like a sense of relief because
I already know he would be picked apart and that's
just because his name is Michael Parsons if he did
not show up. And I also like the fact that
he said what he said at the end of the
season when they're talking about the contracts and he's like,
I will be here for this I typically don't, but
I think it's important. We've got more, you know, all

(39:43):
whatever changes that is here. I like that he's standing
on business what he said. I like the fact that
he is taking on a role knowing that d Law
is no longer in that room. And I think it's
shown the right sign that he takes it serious. How
I look at it is he's much churing, if you will,
And I think it's a big step because I think

(40:05):
all of us here, anyone listening, what you did in
your career in your job regards to what you do
in your twenties is very different than how.

Speaker 3 (40:12):
You're doing it in your thirties.

Speaker 6 (40:14):
And even though Michael Partss is still age wise a
baby as sh if you will, I think where he's
at in his career is like that next phase. And
it showed and he silenced anybody I think showing up.
When I saw the picture, I was like, yeah, okay,
so now it's time to let's get this boy signed.

(40:34):
It's good that waiting for.

Speaker 5 (40:36):
Yeah, I agree. I think it's him being a man
of his word. He said it was going to be here.

Speaker 8 (40:39):
He is also too, this is something we've seen Dak
Prescott do as well as when he was going through
and his negotiation stuff.

Speaker 5 (40:46):
He showed up.

Speaker 8 (40:46):
He even echoed that he felt like he needed to
be there for his team during that time because I
think it's important to think about what message it sends.
Like Now, yes, some guys understand, some guys do understand,
like yeah, you gotta go get your money, you got
to take care of your stuff and stuff, but it
still has implications on the furtherment of the team and
the development of the team. And also too, I said

(41:07):
at once, I said again, you got a new coaching staff,
so we are in an install period. So anytime these
guys get the opportunity to take in the information and
to get the teaching and to grasp the system. It
took them several weeks last year into the season to
actually start to get Zimmer's system. I think him being
present there shows that he wants to be involved early.

(41:29):
And as you we talked about before, Micha McCarthy's no
longer here, but he mentioned how important the first few
weeks of the season are. You want to be kind
of ahead of the curve, and you talk about the
continuity on the offensive line side, you need that on
the defensive side that is honestly taking more hits. Yeah,
he needs to be here, and so that's why he's here,

(41:50):
and I'm glad that he is, because ain't nobody trying
to hear all that talking.

Speaker 3 (41:53):
And new any facts.

Speaker 4 (41:54):
Something that's been a big conversation about Micah is him
needing to take more of a leadership role. And Ladies,
I know you've had life experiences with different kind of
leaders in your life, and we've learned that leaders come
in all shapes, forms, sizes in different ways.

Speaker 3 (42:11):
What kind of leader do you think Micah is?

Speaker 4 (42:13):
Because, believe it or not, y'all in the locker room,
he's not a very vocal guy. He's pretty quiet, pretty
to himself. You'll see him hanging at his locker blasting
some music and that's Micah. But what kind of leader
do you feel like he could be this season or
do you expect to see him be this season?

Speaker 3 (42:33):
I would agree on that.

Speaker 6 (42:35):
I think he's more of the lead by example, like
my work speaks for itself, pi ybe, and I think
he does like when he needs to, he'll have that
one on one with someone who's maybe not doing is
great and he'll even hype up in the media like, Hey,
I know you guys have been talking about such and such,
but you don't see he's that type of leader. But

(42:55):
I think what could happen is more of the vocal side.
Like I said, the law is normal. Even though he
was pretty much you know for last season, I feel
like that wasn't the Mica. But as you get older
and as you mature, it starts to change, right, And
I think he's I think he's going to shockingly embrace
it because I will also say when I got here

(43:16):
last season, he got not only the backlash for you know,
not being there, but it was that weird Mike Zimmer
and him relationship that didn't come off to the best
of start, right. That was like the first thing that
I remember like experiencing and hearing about. And he cleared
it up very fast, and I think it nipped it
in the butt, if you will. But the fact that
he's avoiding that and I think he's just I think it.

(43:38):
I think last season humbled them, humbled him, right, because
even when he did it his way, they still were
getting twelve wins. That was I think embarrassing for him,
Like talking him after the game, like, oh he don't
like that.

Speaker 3 (43:52):
Yeah, it was like it like, and I maybe that's
what they needed.

Speaker 4 (43:56):
I think with Micah something that has rubbed a lot
of people the wrong way is after tough losses, he
doesn't talk. He after the playoff loss waited to talk
on his podcast, and that rubbed people the wrong way
to say at the very least.

Speaker 3 (44:13):
But here's what I think.

Speaker 4 (44:14):
I think in terms of media, when you work in media,
you feel like you need the story and you want
to talk to these guys as long as they are
doing what they need to do for their teammates. And yes,
it could make your job harder as a media member
to not get that interview right after the game. He
technically doesn't oh you that interview after the game. I
don't know what private text he sent to guys after that.

(44:36):
I don't know what private calls he had, But I
do think a leader is having those conversations and not
everything sees the light of day with the media, and
keeping the confidentiality in the locker room that.

Speaker 3 (44:50):
Needs to be kept there.

Speaker 4 (44:51):
If somebody had a bad game, you don't want your
teammate going out and calling you out and embarrassing you.
That's not a good look as a leader. And so
for me, I think Ike is kind of the more
moving silence I'm gonna have, like you said, private conversations.
But what I want to see from him this season
is more of the hype hype guy like Tank was

(45:12):
in the middle of that hype circle pregame. I want
that to be Micah. That's what I want for Micah. Honestly,
I want him to be at that point in the game,
but also moving silence as the leader as he feels
according to do that.

Speaker 5 (45:27):
Makes sense, No, that makes total sense.

Speaker 3 (45:28):
I agree with both of you.

Speaker 8 (45:30):
I think you guys, I'm kind of gonna sum up
what the both of you said is that you asked
the original question, Jess was how can he be show
himself as a leader? And how do we think he
shows himself as a leader? And I do think it
starts with his work ethic off the field and off
season and all that stuff, and the product that he

(45:50):
puts on the field, I mean is undeniable that this
guy is clearly taking a step every year in his
play and his peers see that and that's what matters.
But to your point, Jess, is one thing that I
think is going to be important for him moving forward
is using discretion and learning you know when to say
certain things, when you when to not say certain things,

(46:12):
Like you just said, Dak does that very well. Now.

Speaker 5 (46:16):
I don't want Micah to.

Speaker 8 (46:18):
Lose who he is and him being a free thinker,
but there is a way, and we even learn that
in our business. Is when to say certain things, when
it's the right time to say certain things.

Speaker 5 (46:29):
How is this going to impact and all.

Speaker 8 (46:31):
Those things is something that I think is important for
him to continue to learn how to do for the
camaraderie of the locker room, but also for him to
be if he does want to be the leader that
I think he can, because you can become a leader.

Speaker 5 (46:45):
Some people are just born with it.

Speaker 8 (46:46):
Some people just got it like that, but you but
you can get mentorship on how to be a leader
in certain areas and improve. And I think that's going
to be important moving forward for him, using discretion, keeping
the timacy of the locker room with.

Speaker 3 (47:01):
The locker room.

Speaker 8 (47:02):
But I also think he shows leadership in pursuing his
other career. Yeah, I think the fact that he is
doing media, the fact that he is pursuing some of
the things that he wants to do outside of football,
and that he wants to have a life outside of
football sets the example for some of these guys that they.

Speaker 5 (47:18):
Are not pigeonhilled to just be in. You're not just
a football player, Yep, you have a lot more to offer.
So to me, get a.

Speaker 8 (47:26):
Little bit more discrete, big dog, And just a little
bit a little bit more discrete, big dog, and let's
make this locker room sacred again, because I think that
was a big problem. We haven't talked about it a lot, yeah,
but I think that was a major problem last year.
Is like, as the season went on, we started feeling
some of that tension and then that surface with some

(47:47):
of the tank stuff that happened a few weeks ago.
We need to this locker room needs to come together,
and he's such.

Speaker 5 (47:54):
An important piece. He has to be the glue.

Speaker 4 (47:57):
I also think what that comes on his conversation, you
know when you look at that, with any team you're
on or any community or group that you're in, there
has to be honest conversations of like, hey I feel
this way, I I would work better if.

Speaker 3 (48:12):
We did this way.

Speaker 4 (48:13):
So I hope you know, with this new coaching era,
there's also open door, honest conversations that are going on
to better everything in the locker room. So, speaking of
leading everybody, I have led us to go over our
time today. Oh chassy, but guys, we missed you. We

(48:35):
give you five extra minutes since we missed last week,
but we will be back here next Tuesday.

Speaker 3 (48:41):
We missed you.

Speaker 4 (48:42):
We love you for Bree, Ayisha and Jess. Thanks for

Speaker 3 (48:47):

Speaker 5 (48:50):

Speaker 13 (48:51):

Speaker 5 (48:52):
