I feel awake, sister eight am, Chris, let's go.

Speaker 4 (01:00):

Speaker 5 (01:02):
I think it's practice all having a year I practice
every day.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
Shout up to y'all. All right, ladies. Fifty three man
roster is complete.

Speaker 5 (01:10):
Was finalized yesterday at three pm Central Time.

Speaker 4 (01:14):
A lot of surprises, a.

Speaker 5 (01:15):
Lot of expectations of guys that we already expected to
be on this roster. But look just taking you know,
a look at this roster. Let's start with surprises first
and then kind of work our way down, and I
do want to pose the question after is does this
final roster meet shoddies compete every day Mauchrable.

Speaker 6 (01:31):
Let's start with the surprisers first, Christy Well on defense,
it's the rookie Zion Childress, then perry On Winfrey and
James Houston. Winfrey and Houston weren't even on the roster
at the start of training camp. Houston came in on
a tryout with a couple of other defensive linemen and
was signed. Childress was third on the depth chart, and

(01:53):
then by the second to final week was getting some
reps with the first team playing Nickel in the slot
at cornerback, and perry On Winfrey was in the UFL.
So another success story for Darryl Johnston and the folks
of the UFL that we've got a real pipeline working

(02:14):
from UFL formerly XFL USFL to the Cowboys. So let's
see if he can have the same kind of success
that Cavante Turpin has happened.

Speaker 7 (02:25):
Yeah, I mean, I feel like this is one of
the first roster cuts that I've experienced that I just
was like, all right, Like I didn't have a lot
of grievances about what went on, Like might be a
couple of things I would change, but I'm sure that
they have a plan for some ofhow they're executing things.

Speaker 4 (02:42):
But when you talk about a Zion.

Speaker 7 (02:45):
Childress, for me, that one might have been one of
the biggest surprises.

Speaker 4 (02:49):
And that maybe the only thing.

Speaker 7 (02:51):
That surprised me because with this coaching staff, you know,
with this Philly game coming up, the Nickel position being
what it is, I was very on the phone on
whether they were going to be comfortable putting a rook
out there and letting them man you know that spot.

Speaker 4 (03:05):
It's so much responsibility, so.

Speaker 7 (03:07):
Much communication, and so I was like kind of on
the fence, like, are they gonna choose Keymon Hall? We
talked about it yesterday. Are they gonna choose Keimon Hall
over Zion? And listening to Shady, it sounds like they
decided to go with the youth, and so it's a risk.
But there I feel like there has been times that
I've experienced, like talking and working for this team.

Speaker 4 (03:27):
Where I've been like, just throw him in the fire,
see what happened, and you know, it's funny.

Speaker 5 (03:31):
I said this on the game broadcast last week about
Zion is that last last year at Kentucky, his final
year at Kentucky, was his first time playing nickel corner
the entire time.

Speaker 4 (03:42):
He told me that.

Speaker 5 (03:43):
He said that, you know, originally, you know, my coaches
had me playing free safety because they do a lot
of one single high safety.

Speaker 4 (03:49):
Looked at Kentucky.

Speaker 5 (03:50):
But he said he had that relationship with his coaches
to where you know, he came to them and said, hey.

Speaker 4 (03:55):
Just put me a nickel. Put me a nickel. See
what happens.

Speaker 5 (03:58):
I promise you, Like, I'm gonna make play. I like
to be around the ball.

Speaker 4 (04:01):
That's where I thrive.

Speaker 5 (04:03):
And you know, Shoddy talking about that, you know, his
instincts have jumped off the field, off the film since
he got there.

Speaker 4 (04:09):
His physicality, his ability as a blitzer. They also, of course, you.

Speaker 5 (04:13):
Know, shine a light on Kimon Hall, saying he's a
fantastic player as well. But you know, when you are
comparing two guys that are so close in play style,
you always typically go with the younger guy. So I
was shocked with you know, uh, Shody actually going with
that philosophy and trusting you know, like I used to
said a rookie in doing so. But I think another

(04:33):
shocker for me was Jalen Brooks. That was someone that
you know, I feel like over.

Speaker 4 (04:39):
The last couple of years has really stood out.

Speaker 5 (04:42):
And hello, Brianna Oltres is here, way up girl, It's fine.

Speaker 4 (04:48):
It's great. You know seven am, I mean eight am.
While that's crazy.

Speaker 5 (04:52):
Anyways, Jalen Brooks, you know, back to him, he's been
making plays whenever he needs to. He caught a couple
of deep touchdowns from Joe Milton in one in training
camp again last week, I believe as well, so just
talking about him, I was a little shocked with that one,
but best of luck to him. Jalen Brooks has always been,
you know, a great player, special player, even better person,

(05:14):
and so a lot to look forward to with what
he has to come. What's y'all thoughts about duce Vaughn
and you know them waiving him and where does y'all
kind of stand about this running back room.

Speaker 6 (05:24):
I think that we were right on it yesterday when
we said that it was going to be special teams
that cost him the roster spot here. So yeah, he
just but at the same time, you can say, well,
you're not expecting Miles Sanders to play special teams either,
but no, Ultimately it came down to that was how

(05:47):
much he can contribute on special teams.

Speaker 4 (05:49):
And he was out there. I mean they gave him.

Speaker 6 (05:51):
Heck, he was even the second team personal protector on punts.
So he had opportunities at camp and in preseason to
do some. But I think for the long haul of
the season, they just decided to go a different direction
and he could clear waivers you know, thirty one other
teams decide not to sign him, he could decide to
come back here and sign with the practice squad. So

(06:13):
it's not necessarily over witduce with the Cowboys, but just
for the fifty three man roster for now, I pose.

Speaker 5 (06:20):
The question of do you feel like the final roster
meets shoddies compete every day?

Speaker 4 (06:25):
Mantra and your surprisers.

Speaker 8 (06:27):
From answer, Well, first, sorry, so I'm a little late,
you know WHOA Okay, I would say, well, first of all,
when I looked at who was released wave cut, nothing
on there was surprising.

Speaker 9 (06:42):
I feel like everything that we talked about was pretty
much right on base. And I know there's some people
you want to hang on to where you're talking about
the Tray Shawn Holdens of the world that were like
the camp favorites. But I don't think anyone that was
released in I mean, it's as expected.

Speaker 4 (07:00):
Nothing's going to.

Speaker 9 (07:01):
Break or make the Dallas Cowboys going forward. I mean
that's just the nature of it. But I think it's
everything that Schottenheimer said it was going to be. It
was some of the rookies getting some spots that maybe
surprise some. It was some veterans having to work for
their spots, and nothing's guaranteed.

Speaker 4 (07:22):
The compete every day.

Speaker 9 (07:23):
When you're talking about the James Houstons of the world,
is very happy they found a spot for him film
offa Jaden Blue. Those things that were earned. From what
I saw going back to Oxnard, Surprises, I think we
were talking about it.

Speaker 4 (07:42):
I was kind of.

Speaker 9 (07:43):
Getting the feeling about Izzy. I guess to me, if
I want to say, Surprise is kind of shocked if
he didn't find a spot just because they just paid him,
even though it was a ton of money. They did
pay him the back in March, and just the fact
that he was the veteran in the group. He was
playing some safety, he was playing some Nickel. They were

(08:06):
just trying some new things with him, so it just
felt like they were making us somewhere for him to go.
So I could think that was probably for me the
biggest surprise, if you will. But the awesome Richards wasn't.
I feel like we saw him kind of, you know,
fading away and glad he found a new home where
it looks like they'll be able to utilize them more
than he would have been here.

Speaker 4 (08:25):
But yeah, that's probably it for me. And on the mukuamu.

Speaker 6 (08:28):
With that new deal, it was one year, one point
seventy five million with five hundred k guaranteed, So that
five hundred thousand dollars is going to be the dead money.

Speaker 5 (08:39):
You know, you can do a five hundred k.

Speaker 4 (08:41):
I can do a lot. I can take a little
bit practice squad place.

Speaker 5 (08:46):
Which room do y'all feel like is the deepest now?

Speaker 10 (08:50):
Mmm?

Speaker 6 (08:52):
I think wide receiver And to tell you the room
that I thought was among the weakest last year, I
feel really good about this year.

Speaker 4 (09:03):
And that's linebacker. Linebacker. Yeah, I'm sorry for thee.

Speaker 7 (09:10):
No, it's a it's a I mean when that was
actually one of the easiest positions to where I was
looking at it was like that Mason's that Masons bubon,
and that's not typically the case. Obviously, the defensive ind
room is a strong room as well, but once you
get Micah back, yeah it's gonna be stronger. Yeah, of course.

(09:30):
But I do think that that that linebacker room does
make you feel a little bit more comfortable, even despite
what's going on in the defensive line. And then when you
talk about the competition portion of it, Nicole, I wanted
to definitely say that I thought that the even the
Awesome Richards Trade shows some of the competition stuff because
as soon as it was clear that Nate Thomas like

(09:51):
was gonna be able to man that that left tackle spot,
I think that's when things kind of got a little
sticky with Awesome. And then after that you saw them
kind of using him in the jumbo packages, trying to
figure out somewhere for him to be. I think Nate
Thomas just came in and competed, like we're talking about, Nicole,
and that is what I took away from the cuts.

Speaker 4 (10:09):
That's I took. That's what I took away from.

Speaker 7 (10:11):
The cuts was they're serious about you comp competing for
your spot. Doesn't matter how young you are, if this
is something, if they believe that you performed better, because
I felt like what Perryon like the film was undeniable.

Speaker 4 (10:23):
So to see that he.

Speaker 7 (10:25):
Made this roster, to see that children's made the roster,
To see like Houston who worked his tail off, and
then you know, there were guys that have been here
like Tyrus whed like, there were other gentlemen that have
been here that could have had those spots, and he
just worked his tail off. So I was happy that
what they're echoing, you know, as a coaching staff to me,
showed up in this and I think that's why I

(10:47):
had a lot. I didn't really have that many complaints
about how they did things.

Speaker 6 (10:49):
But are there's still a couple of because well, now
I think that when we say the final roster, the
complete roster, I mean the next for the next ten hours.

Speaker 7 (11:03):
Yeh, No, No, we are very well rare. Yes for
the for the folks out there, let me make sure that.

Speaker 4 (11:09):
This is not the completed roster.

Speaker 7 (11:11):
But as it stands right now, which what you have
in house, I think you made some good decisions, some
risky ones, but we're gonna see how they work out.

Speaker 4 (11:21):
Yeah, sure. When you say risky, I think.

Speaker 9 (11:24):
Of the cornerback group, that nugget specifically, but a lot
of that nugget stacked up defensive end. That's the first
thing that came to mind. I need the quality, versatility.
You have proven production. That's the big one. It's proven talented.
It's not a bunch of question marks and unknowns like
some of the other groups may be a little risky.

Speaker 4 (11:41):
I think it's the less risky.

Speaker 9 (11:42):
And of course Michael Parkson is going to back. I'll
be very very happy to see what happens in that group.
But I think even though I'm not saying it's good
without Micah, but I'm saying that there's I feel like
some stability there and some confidence even though Micah is
in contract situations.

Speaker 5 (11:58):
Let me ask you something now, since on the defensive line,
hello topic, how much does I'll say, Micah's status kind
of shift the defensive ceiling early on with guys like
obviously Donovan Azaku, the improvement of Marshawn Neelan Dante Fowler. Hello,
just talk about you know, how much like I just

(12:20):
as does his status shift the defensive ceiling early on
with the personnel they.

Speaker 7 (12:25):
Have well I think Christy made a really good point
yesterday about the fact that's why they kept a guy
like James Houston. That's why I think about like you mentioned,
I think guys like Fowler being in makes a difference.
But if I if what I think they're trying to
do defensively is what they're trying to defensively, and talking
to some of the guys at and training camp, they're
going to be trying to create.

Speaker 4 (12:44):
One on ones on this defensive line.

Speaker 7 (12:47):
They are going to try to have different fronts and
different personnel group and is to get favorable matchups for some.

Speaker 4 (12:56):
Of these pass rushers.

Speaker 7 (12:57):
And for me, I do feel like not having Michael
Parsons out there changes the dynamic or kind of how
your your defense feels because of the attention he draws.

Speaker 4 (13:06):
There is nothing like in practice.

Speaker 7 (13:10):
Divan Zeraku I think is gonna be a ballplayer, but
he's not Micah, it doesn't matter, And so I do
think that is something that is gonna make a difference
early on. And furthermore, if this team wants to turn
the ball over the way that it sounds like they
want to, I think this team also understands that their
offense defensively, I think their offense is gonna be able
to put up points. I think that's something that they're

(13:31):
serious about, wanting to score. Hit people in the mouth,
be explosive when they need to, and you need to
be able to capitalize. After all, you have to be
able to force those turnovers. And I think past rush
is a huge part of that. It's gonna help out
that secondary. If you got a childress in there, you
people like Michael speed up that clock. So I just
I do think he is a guy you have to

(13:52):
plan for on that defensive line, and I think any
other guy right now might have to earn that different
until he's present. And I that's the thing that changes
things for me is one on ones, favorable matchups and
guys having to help out, like the chip in and
stuff like that.

Speaker 4 (14:09):
Are they gonna do that as much? What are we
gonna say? Are they gonna do that as much? Are
they gonna double team as much?

Speaker 7 (14:14):
Are they gonna, like Mica takes tight ends out of
games because they have to help.

Speaker 4 (14:18):
Out over there.

Speaker 7 (14:20):
Who's gonna step up in that meantime to have that
type of respect to help out some of the guys
to find favorable matchups and maybe Flus is gonna do
some things on the back end too. So that's just
where I'm at with eight ladies.

Speaker 4 (14:31):
I don't know, Yeah, I don't lie. I feel like
I feel like last year it's.

Speaker 9 (14:36):
The beginning with Mike Zimmer and what I was hearing
from a lot of the players, you know, this wasn't
a I think the difference between Zimmer and Eberflus is
the simplicity of it, if you will, a lot of
the guys saying that's very clear on what their assignment is,
what their role is, and obviously, like I used to mention,
you know, they've been hitting on the takeaways and.

Speaker 4 (14:58):
What their goals are.

Speaker 9 (14:59):
But I think with Micah, this this defense is around him.
So that's the I think that's the frustration part, is
you know, you're you're figuring stuff out, and yes, like
you know, we were talking about it the other day
at CBS about how Micah is is that type of
player where he could just go in and do all
these things, But like CHRISTI mentioned, there's different type of

(15:20):
there's football conditioning and then there's regular conditioning. Right, Like
it's gonna regardless of who the superstar is it's going
to take time. But to me, when I look at
Mike and what he's able to do in the ground,
he's able to cover, it's like having two people on
the he's two for one. It's basically what is So
it's going to be some other people stepping in in
some different roles, interested to see who that leadership role.

Speaker 4 (15:41):
I think the group that they have, like I said,
a lot of.

Speaker 9 (15:45):
Confidence, but there is no other Michael Parsons on this
team abstallycrazing.

Speaker 6 (15:50):
Yeah, And to the point of the takeaways, it's how
they affect the quarterback with his past rush. To Ayasha's
point and it to eight one. And so when you
look and I think we would all say that our
biggest concern on defense is just really more the health
status of the cornerbacks. So the best friend for a

(16:13):
cornerback is a good pass rush and affecting the pass rusher.
And then the other thing is with the run game, right,
your run defense, defensive tackles. Are we feeling one hundred
percent about that?

Speaker 7 (16:26):
But you said.

Speaker 10 (16:28):
Stop?

Speaker 4 (16:29):
Would you say stop it?

Speaker 5 (16:30):
That's funny that we're talking about Michael Parsons and what
are playing on Good Morning Football?

Speaker 4 (16:35):
That's pretty dope. Oh god, oh no, I'm sorry, you.

Speaker 6 (16:38):
Know, it's just and again, hey, hopefully he gets the extension,
Hopefully he gets some plays out there. But even if
that were to be done today or this week, like
Brion and we were just saying, you know, repeating from yesterday,
I don't think you can throw him out there for
forty something plays, you know, just give him more limited

(17:00):
reps and let him affect the game that way.

Speaker 5 (17:02):
Well, that's what Shoddy said, that he'll have a ramp
up period, but they do expect they want him back
on the field as soon as possible.

Speaker 6 (17:10):
And even just having him available, knowing even if it's
gonna be ten to fifteen to twenty plays, Yeah, that
affects what the Eagles are gonna do because.

Speaker 7 (17:19):
The yeah for that if he out if he's out
there for decoration, a little decoy.

Speaker 9 (17:25):
Fine, just keep pointing, does that's what he's out there for?

Speaker 7 (17:30):
But I do think I agree it is going to
Like I said, I think signing a guy like James
Houston that can create his own pass for us very important.
Dante Fowler very important. Oh so DIGGI zoo getting this
deal very important. You're gonna need guys that can get
after it. And also too, if I'm looking at I
ain't looking too far ahead, but if I'm looking at Philly, they.

Speaker 4 (17:49):
They gotta do. They gotta guard that slow for it.

Speaker 7 (17:52):
And then they got Land and Dickerson that they don't
know if they're gonna get back in time. There will
be areas on that offensive line that you could take
advantage of.

Speaker 4 (17:58):
You love to have a lip been out there for that.

Speaker 5 (18:00):
Let's talk about this defensive tackle room though you'll satisfied,
is anybody it's gonna be?

Speaker 7 (18:06):
Have Randy Jackson say it's going to be.

Speaker 6 (18:11):
This time last year. I feel so much better than
tackle last year. Remember the five different guys during training
camp they were recycling a bunch of veterans coming in.
Uh that, But I.

Speaker 4 (18:25):
Feel tad better. But no, it's just I don't know,
like I think.

Speaker 7 (18:30):
Bringing Perry on Winfrey, Uh, him earning his spot, his story,
having to bounce back, having to show some resilience and
what he's gone through and having to go through, you know,
the way he went through the uf L and built
hisself up here.

Speaker 4 (18:45):
He has a very unique skill set.

Speaker 7 (18:47):
And so I am happy that he is here I
think he's a guy that can help you, but you
are really lighting the butt on the interior and I
and what I mean by that is that and there's
it's weird because cause we have seen schemes in the NFL.
You've seen schemes here and Rob Marrinelli's scheme, like we've
seen teams that have defensive tackles that are not this big, heavy,

(19:10):
unmovable object. So I understand that it can work. And
what they're trying to do, They're gonna ask a lot
of their linebackers.

Speaker 4 (19:18):
It's gonna ask a lot of your.

Speaker 7 (19:19):
Safeties, and it's possible, but the attention to detail and
how sound you have to be is is gonna ask
a lot of the front seven as a whole. And
I just want some somebody we can put it in
there so you can cheat a little bit sometimes because
if you do have a guy that is kind of
a space eater and maybe you miss your gap, maybe

(19:42):
he can help you out a little bit more because
he is he does warrant a double team if none
of your defensive tackles warn't a double team at no
point in time. Pray Saints, And so I'm kind of
I see what Flus is doing. He working with what
he got. I see what he's doing. I see schematically
kind of what he's thinking and talking to the guys.
It feels like they understand, like we're gonna have to

(20:04):
win with different alignments. We're gonna have to win with
like funneling.

Speaker 4 (20:08):
To the linebackers. We're gonna have to win.

Speaker 7 (20:10):
With sound gap integrity and being able to fill with
certainty there. But it is they've gotta be on their
piece and ques every weekend. I just feel like that's
a lot. Go give me a space eater and cheats.
Please cheat a little bit.

Speaker 4 (20:23):
It's all right to cheat a little bit if you can.

Speaker 7 (20:26):
So I'm not I'm I'm excited about the three texts,
and then I'm like still scared about the three texts.

Speaker 6 (20:33):
Should we call it a work in progress?

Speaker 4 (20:34):
It's just too Yeah, here's something.

Speaker 7 (20:38):
I trust.

Speaker 6 (20:40):
Good to have a Solomon Thomas. I mean, that was
such a really good signing.

Speaker 4 (20:44):
You know, y'all trust. I trust his track record is his.

Speaker 7 (20:47):
Track record, and coach white Cotton and of course coach
white Cotton. But I trust obviously Eba Flus is over like'
just gonna I trust he's gonna they're gonna they're gonna
turn the ball over and they're gonna stop the run.

Speaker 4 (21:01):
How long is go gonna take for them to get.

Speaker 7 (21:04):
It though, because we do know there's a learning curve
with the system and the team you're about to play
on week one, it took them about half the season
to get Fangio's system. Yeah, and so it's like, let's
see what the learning curve is.

Speaker 5 (21:16):
What y'all got, ladies, I was about to take our
first break.

Speaker 4 (21:19):
We can take her.

Speaker 5 (21:20):
But learning curve continues too on the offensive side of
the ball room down the running backs up next here
on Girl Songboys Talk.

Speaker 4 (24:26):
Gonna beat up on them bear, We're gonna beat up
on Philly. We're gonna beat up on the Giants.

Speaker 5 (24:31):
With his little human that's adorable. Welcome back in the
Girls Star Boys talk presented by a visit line. I mean,
you gotta love moments like that. You know, Setenheim are
also talking about it yesterday. You know, he had some
hard conversations, but he has some really good ones as well,
perry On Winfrey Ladies being one of them.

Speaker 6 (24:47):
Christy Yeah, just uh Shoddy saying that he teared up
because perry On was was tearing up, and he brought
up Usually if you get called to the head coach's
office on cut down day, assuming that you're getting cut
and Shoddy knew that perry On would be thinking that
that he's coming, but he wanted to be able to

(25:07):
tell him face to face that he had made the team.
And this is a young man who's had a circuitous
journey to the NFL to the Cowboys, and kid from
Illinois who didn't you know, didn't academically qualify and had
to go to the junior college route before getting to
major college football and then Oklahoma and then drafted by

(25:32):
Cleveland in the fourth round and got waived twenty twenty
three and some off the field issues with Cleveland, and
then to the Jets out of the NFL, then to
the UFL. Birmingham made all UFL, and then to Cowboys camp.
And you can see he has a lovely family. And

(25:54):
these are the guys that come back after making a mistake,
and as Shoddy said, they appreciate it more because they
know that they nearly lost it, right, they near they
nearly lost their opportunity, and so it means even more
to them.

Speaker 4 (26:14):
Are you huh No, No, No.

Speaker 7 (26:18):
First of all, the kid is no, I'm laugh I
don't let y'all. I was trying not to laugh because
I know it's very serious. But I was just thinking
about the fact that, like the Cowboys have a tendency
to do this, and then I was thinking, what's that
what's that channel that we having the Christmas movie.

Speaker 6 (26:34):
Channel channel with all the Christmas lifetime to No, that's
what I first thought about, and I said, they just
they just no. This is when this is when carry
On put out himself though right, no, and I agree,
but I just feel like this is the time.

Speaker 4 (26:49):
This isn't the first time.

Speaker 7 (26:51):
This isn't the first time that the Cowboys have found
a player that has this amount of talent that maybe
just hasn't gotten it hasn't felt right for them. They've
had things have and and and they pour into them
and then you see, you know.

Speaker 4 (27:03):
The results. So for me, I mean it takes a lot,
like yeah, it's even and his.

Speaker 7 (27:13):
Story it's not a traditional story. It's what I mean.
It's that there's some there's some uncertainty in these stories.
And then these guys get here and you see him perform,
you see him play, and like with Perryon, I really
do believe like it was very evident, very clear, like oh,
this guy has something special. So then I went to
look at some of his college tape and you see

(27:34):
the length, you see how he extends, you see how
he moves people off the ball, and how quick he
can be actually too for some of those centers. I
think his skill set is needed, especially in this NFL.
But I think his skill set is specifically needed for
this defense right now.

Speaker 4 (27:50):
And he's a scheme fit.

Speaker 7 (27:51):
He fits really what Eberflus was looking for. So him
making the team only made sense to me. I think
he makes you better.

Speaker 4 (27:57):
Right now, and I'm good for him. I saw it
last night.

Speaker 9 (28:01):
I'm glad you guys, everything about it is cute personally
as a journalist, as a storyteller, I hang my hat
on showing athletes what you don't see off the field,
so that I think that's why that touches me so much.
And you know, as a former uh two year community

(28:22):
college goal myself like all that, all that hits home.
And I think everybody at this table has a story, right,
We've all been the underdog at some point, We've all
overcame stuff. So he's just someone that I feel like,
I'm so happy it worked out because when I was
I remember talking to somebody, a veteran at camp, and
he says, my job is to remind the guys that
they're fighting for their football lives or not fighting for

(28:43):
their lives. And I feel like maybe Perryon win if
you felt like he was fighting for his.

Speaker 4 (28:47):
Actual life a little bit. So very very happy to
see him and obviously earned it.

Speaker 5 (28:51):
So will you guys talk about perry On who fits
this scheme of other guys on the offensive side of
the ball that fits this offensive scheme that they have
selected as male Sanders, Davonte Williams, Jaden, Blue Force Film,
MafA as well, but talking about those three guys, you know,
what does that say about you know, Shaddy's offensive vision
and what kind of approach do you feel like they're

(29:12):
going to make in terms of this committee approach or
are they expecting one guy to eventually emerge as running
back one Christie.

Speaker 6 (29:20):
Well, don't you think that they want to they for
one to emerge. They'd love for Javonte Williams to emerge
as the main guy, right, But they've got if they
need to, they could do committee.

Speaker 4 (29:34):
But I don't know.

Speaker 6 (29:35):
I think that running back is kind of like quarterbacks
if you have if you say you have two quarterbacks,
you know, then you don't have just the one, the
one lead dog, right, So I would love to have
the lead dog and then the other guys be able
to contribute. So I think MafA, he's still because he

(29:58):
was on the fifty three man, they can go ahead
and move him to IR and that opens a roster
spot that you can use for if you bring back
a Will Greer or sign C. J. Goodwin kind of thing.
But I really, I really don't know how it's going
to work out. But I'm just hoping that Javonte. The
main thing is you have to have enough of a

(30:21):
run game that the defense has to respect it. So
it sets up your play action.

Speaker 7 (30:26):
Pass absolutely, and I can tell that that's a lot
of what they want to do. They definitely want to
lean on the play action game. They definitely want to do.
They want to do boots and waggles and stuff like
that and stuff that really combines the passing game with
the running game. But as far as the running back room,
I ain't even gonna hold you. I know nothing about nothing.
The only person I know anything about for real is

(30:48):
Hunter Lifke, and so we had to wait and see
type of standstill.

Speaker 4 (30:52):
Now, what I will say is that what I do
know about.

Speaker 7 (30:55):
The run scheme from what I've seen from Clayton Adams
and Conn O'Reilly and the way that they come out
do things in the way that Cooper Beebie said that schematically,
some of the things that they're doing are similar to
what he was doing at Kansas State.

Speaker 4 (31:07):
Like, okay, I can get an idea of that. Cool.

Speaker 7 (31:10):
I will say that I think, especially not special teams,
I will say that I.

Speaker 4 (31:14):
Think preseason does show you.

Speaker 7 (31:15):
They don't show you nothing, but it will show you
little bits and pieces of some of the things that
the coaches are harping on, some of the things that
they are really trying.

Speaker 4 (31:24):
To get these guys to do at a high level.

Speaker 7 (31:27):
And I felt like the double teams and some of
the things that they were they did in the run
game consistently. You saw that in preseason from the twos,
and I felt like that was encouraging for me because
I'm like, if the twos are doing it and they
have an understanding of it and we're seeing them be
able to work together and move people off the ball,

(31:48):
I expect that from the ones. So I will say
I think that the run is going to be more
creative and how they scheme guys open. I think that
the running backs will be involved in the receiving game
to extent. I think you will be multiple in the
sense of Ceedee Lamb turping those guys getting opportunities and
stuff like that. Pass Bro's gonna be important, all that stuff.
I think we're gonna get a versatile run game. I

(32:09):
just have no idea schematically. I just don't know what
it's gonna look like. I think they're gonna be able
to block it up over as the season goes on,
which runner takes advantage of those which runners take advantage
of that situation. I don't know yet because we haven't
seen Javonte. We saw very little from Miles Sanders. We've
seen Jayden Blue to an extent. Sounds like he's gonna
be ready to go. That's good, but I'm still keeping

(32:31):
an eye on his ankle. It's just kind of a
lot of wait and see sisters.

Speaker 6 (32:34):
Yeah, because really the only action we saw with Yvante
and really first team run game was the Rams joint practice.

Speaker 4 (32:41):
And it was awful.

Speaker 6 (32:43):
The Yeah, the Rams defense was better on the line.

Speaker 7 (32:49):
Yeah, he was the only one that There was a
couple of times where they just had some swinging passes
to him and you could see him be a little
bit more physical because they were thumping out there and
he was, Okay, I'll match your energy a little bit.
But he's a difficult god to get a grasp on
when you can't tackle, because that is what makes him
who he is. He also is a receiving threat as

(33:11):
a running back as well, and they not showing on that.

Speaker 9 (33:14):
Yeah, so we ain't seen nothing, girl, What you think
I fear I'm going to be saying what I was
saying A lot last year running back by committee. But
I will say I have a little more faith in
this running back by committee because I felt kind of
felt like we were forced to say that last year
because there wasn't a true running back one and like

(33:34):
Christy was saying, we don't really know what Javonte Williams
is going to be. It's pretty clear that that's who
they feel like is there are b one But I
think when you look at all three backs that they kept, like,
you know, we know Javonte Williams is that physical back, right,
I look at him like a power, inside zone.

Speaker 4 (33:49):
Run type of guy.

Speaker 9 (33:50):
And then we have you know Sanders, who I feel
like he in my opinion, is in what I was seeing,
even going back to OTAs will be the one more
gets involved than that passing game, if you will. And
then Jadeen Blue, I knew he was making this team
because he brings something different than both those more explosive
guy who brings and.

Speaker 4 (34:07):
It can change the pace of the game.

Speaker 9 (34:09):
So I do think it's going to be a running
back by committee type of approach. I just have more
faith in this group and the coaches they brought in
to make it a little more successful than what we
saw last year. Do I think it's going to happen
right away. No, because I'm remembering what Chrissy was talking
about with that joint practice. It was a very much
scary stuff happening. But I think once they get in
the flow of things, I think those three things that

(34:31):
I mentioned with each of those backsts, and then it
also depends if they can stay healthy, like Miles Sanders
has not been healthy. So I think for me, when
I was making my running back list and at that time,
film Afa was healthy, I didn't know if Miles Sanders
was going to hang just because I just felt like
he was the kind of the question mark. Yes he's
the veteran, but it's clear they're going with the veterans

(34:52):
in this group and that little spice that Blue brings,
and then we'll see what happens.

Speaker 5 (34:55):
When I think for me, it's more so like how
long is it going to take for us to fit
year it out? If we are going to be a
running back by committee approach, or if you know you're
gonna go.

Speaker 4 (35:06):
With just one guy as the lead back.

Speaker 5 (35:09):
And that's you know, unfortunate because you did see Miles
Sanders in the preseason a little bit. You didn't get
a chance to see Javonte Williams in the preseason.

Speaker 4 (35:16):
But you saw the other guys.

Speaker 5 (35:17):
Uh So, how long do y'all feel like it will
take for those guys to kind of figure the coaching
staff to kind of figure that out.

Speaker 4 (35:25):
I guess it depends.

Speaker 7 (35:26):
I guess it depends just because I think, as a whole, again,
this is a new scheme, this is a new feel.
I do think with the run game, in particular the
offensive line, it's gonna take them time to jail, especially
since you're not even sure you know, I hope you
get Gutten back for a week one, we don't know
for sure yet in those things. So I do think
as a whole that unit's gonna take some time to mesh,

(35:48):
and that's gonna affect what your runners look like. And
then also too, what is a situation call for because Babe, yeah,
when you going up there against Philly, if that's what
you want, if you want to bay your head against
the wall, I think you need to run situationally. But
their secondary has things that you can take advantage of.
So I do think it depends situationally. But when the

(36:11):
run game in itself how long is it gonna take.
I hope it don't take to miss season. I can
say that, I hope, I hope that we're not sitting
here looking around like Jayden Blue is clearly the fresher
legs or whatever the case may be. And I do
think that that has something to do with what they
chose to do with fil MafA A Listen.

Speaker 4 (36:29):
Y'all got to figure out what jograph going on or else.

Speaker 7 (36:36):
So anyway, I do think I don't want it to
take forever. I feel like it, and I think a
little bit we should feel a little better with what
happened with the roster as of right now, because that
lets you know that it don't take forever. Like Zion
Childrens emerged through the latter part exactly, who's the other

(36:56):
gentleman Flinoy emerged through the latter part, consistent through, But
that latter part is.

Speaker 4 (37:01):
What really pushed them through.

Speaker 7 (37:02):
And I think the coaches saw, they saw that, and
they responded to that. So hopefully that makes me feel
that makes.

Speaker 4 (37:08):
Y'all feel little bit.

Speaker 7 (37:09):
It made me feel a litt bit better, like maybe
ain't gonna take fever because you ain't got time forever.

Speaker 4 (37:13):
Yeah, need a run game.

Speaker 6 (37:14):
I'm really curious to see how much they do the
formation where you put Hunter Lipke back there truly as
a fullback. How much are we gonna see twenty one?
That's a formation. Twenty one means you have two running
back fullback end and running back and just one tight end.
Cowboys and most teams she usually are in a twelve
just one person in the backfield, two tight ends. But

(37:35):
I'm just but see it's gonna change week to week.
That's the thing. There's so many weapons on this offense
and you have so many guys who are versatile that
truly week to week it can change based on the
chess match with the other defense.

Speaker 9 (37:50):
Yeah, and I think, what's happened how with this offense? Like, really,
the run game just needs to start off serviceable, please, right,
because the passing game is supposed to be what the
spark is. So if you just can get it going,
let the offense. What I'm thinking, this identity of this
offense can be a Bengals team but that can run

(38:12):
the ball is basically how I'm looking at this offense.

Speaker 4 (38:15):
And then I think as the season.

Speaker 9 (38:16):
Goes, like I say, mid season, maybe it starts to
look a little more spicy, right, because they're getting that continuity.
The O line I'm putting in the air stays healthy
and just lean on your passing game and let the
magic work. And then I think it all tries to transcend.

Speaker 4 (38:31):
But if it starts off.

Speaker 9 (38:32):
What Rocky getting, you know, stuff to the run, can't
stay healthy, and I think that's when.

Speaker 4 (38:37):
You start to run into issues. All right, well, we're.

Welcome back in the Girls, Top Boys stop present by
visit line and we're wrapping up the show with Christy.

Speaker 4 (41:34):
I'm going to you. Who could be some guys? Oh
the Cowboys being back on.

Speaker 6 (41:40):
Oh there's so many, so many, so little time. Uh,
I think you're two undrafted guys from Syracuse, Elijah Clark
and Justin Barron. So there's a safety and a linebacker.
I think they try and bring back Mike Smith as
well at safety, Jalen Brooks and Trey Shawn Holden if
Brooks is able to clear waivers. Same thing with Holden,

(42:03):
Princeton fant Rivaldo fair Weather. And then you're going to
have Denzel Dason the defensive tackle through the International Player
Pathway program, so the Cowboys will be able to have
seventeen players instead of sixteen. So look for Denzel to
be back. And then in terms of the guys who
were released, the older veterans, I think keem On Hall.

(42:26):
We agree on keem On if he slides through Buddy
Johnson because he can be one of these key special
teams guys in depth at linebacker if you need it there.
And in regards to CJ. Goodwin, I think it's going
to be signed to the fifty three man once they
make some IR moves and Hakeema Dentagy, I'll about to

(42:46):
say that I Dentagy maybe fifty three man instead of
practice squad, but I think he's your swing tackle. I
agree and then Ernest Brown if he's not on the
sign to the fifty three, if you're able to get
him on a practice squad, but you may have to
get him on your fifty three.

Speaker 4 (43:05):
So that's what I'm saying.

Speaker 7 (43:06):
I'm thinking if they on the file, they might find
someone that they think might be better suited, even though
I know they were high on Ernest Sure.

Speaker 6 (43:16):
Yeah. And then one question with Will Grier, do you
do practice squad and have him as that or do
you bring him on your fifty three man roster or
do y'all think that the third quarterback comes from a
different team.

Speaker 4 (43:31):
That's a good question. I think the everhood is out there.

Speaker 5 (43:34):
Who's available right now?

Speaker 4 (43:35):
Yeah, that's a thing.

Speaker 9 (43:36):
That's that's the big There was so many swaps the
other day with all the backup keebs.

Speaker 6 (43:41):
I think it's going to be greer. But the question
is is whether you do fifty three man or practice squad.

Speaker 4 (43:48):
It depends. It might depend on how many.

Speaker 6 (43:50):
But the main thing about the practice squad is so
you'll you'll Cowboys can have seventeen because of Denzel Jackson
being an international player. He's from the Bahamas, by the way,
So week to week you can elevate two players. So
you're going to have this long list of players and
then each game you can decide to make two available

(44:11):
for that game day. But once a player has been
elevated throughout the season three times, that's the most he
can be elevated. If you needed him to play more
than that, you would have to sign him to your
fifty three man roster.

Speaker 10 (44:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (44:23):
I think it also depends on because Shoddy also talked
about you know, they're not done yet, so who they
bring sure prioritized.

Speaker 6 (44:30):
Yeah, you bring in practice squad guys for your practice
squad that were cut by other NFL.

Speaker 7 (44:36):
Yeah, yeah, we might see guys like that's the thing
about this time, And I think that that's kind of
a I'm not sure if it has any validity, but
the big cut must be really good or really bad
for teams, like the way that they do it now,
it has to be probably stressful for some of the
scouts today because it's so much going on. But I
do think that they're probably is guys that get lost

(44:58):
in the shuffle and stuff like that, or like you
can navigate it a little bit better than it would
it be in one big cut. But yeah, I want
to see if they are going to be aggressive, which
I think and they typically are.

Speaker 4 (45:10):
We're trying to get.

Speaker 7 (45:11):
Some guys signed during this time, so there might be
some gentlemen that we think might be on the practice
squad that they might think that they there's another guy
that's better suited for that spot. So we'll see how
it goes.

Speaker 6 (45:22):
I didn't I have do Spawn on my list as well, Like,
don't remember if I mentioned him, So we'll see.

Speaker 4 (45:29):
No, I think I agree with you guys.

Speaker 9 (45:31):
I feel like, well, to me, my gut is telling me, well,
we will be on a practice squad.

Speaker 4 (45:35):
That's just the feeling I have.

Speaker 9 (45:36):
I think they're selling the Joe Milton confidence, and that's
just how I feel like it's going to go.

Speaker 4 (45:42):
It's going to be simple. Will girl on the practice squad?
Joe Milton's are due? If anything goes wrong, yeah, time
will tell hours. How many hours it got left?

Speaker 5 (45:51):
Like ten?

Speaker 10 (45:52):
So many days?

Speaker 4 (45:53):
So many hours?

Speaker 6 (45:56):
Well, yeah, there's twenty four hours to clear waivers and
then once once players clear waivers, then they can sign
with whomever they want to sign.

Speaker 4 (46:05):
So we'll startmorrow.

Speaker 5 (46:09):
Yes, okay, the maths math math wasn't mathing, ladies, my brain. Yeah,
well the math is mathing for Countdown for Philly next Thursday.
