You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
Michael Bumpis.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Playfake going to roll right, dumps it off into the
right plaff to Michael Bumpers, who bounces off of one tackler,
gets inside the forty down of the thirty five yard line.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
Powered by Seahawks dot Com.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Matt pumpfake's looking at the goal line. He throws it
into the m zone. Touchdown, Say Hawks, it's Michael.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Bumpers with a diving catching the end zone on ten
yard touchdown reception for Bumpers, and the kid out of
Washington State has found himself a place on this team.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Now here's your host, Nasa Choviie.
Speaker 4 (00:34):
Welcome into another edition of Hawk Talk the Seahawks getting
ready to take on the Philadelphia Eagles. Hawks lost the
last four games, looking to get off the losing streak.
They're on figure things out. Playoffs are still at reach,
but it's gonna take a lot against these Eagles. Bump
Monday Night football loomingfield. But you guys are all in
for a treat today because me and bumb have been
(00:56):
putting our heads together trying to find a way to
be positive, figure out away the Seahawks are gonna get
this done. We got it, we got it figured out,
we got the formula, so yeah, we do. We're just
give you a nice little tease for the next half hours,
so you're gonna hear everything you need to know about
how the Seahawks can get this done in the weaknesses
within the Eagles defense. So stay tuned. It's gonna be
a real fun show. But let's waste no more time.
(01:18):
What's on tap?
Speaker 1 (01:22):
What's on tap? Eagles ten and three second place in
the NFC East.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
They're tied with Dallas, but Dallas wins a tiebreaker because
of a couple different things.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
I know they're one to one, but there's.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
A separate tiebreaker, so they're technically in second place. This year,
they have wins over the Patriots, Vikings, Bucks, Commanders, Rams, Dolphins,
Commanders again, Cowboys, Chiefs, and Bills. They have lost to
the Jets, forty nine, Ers, and Cowboys. And here's the
thing about them, they while they have a great record,
(01:55):
they went to Super Bowl, did all those things, Bob,
They've kind of got.
Speaker 5 (01:58):
Smacked the last two weeks. Yeah, it's been a it's
been a different story for these guys. Now you still
respect him, right because they're ten and three. They got
some weapons. But the other day last weekend, it was
it was a highly anticipated rematch. Right in Week nine,
the Eagles took down the Cowboys twenty eight to twenty three,
thrilling fashion and with the red zone stop for the Eagles.
(02:20):
Everybody's hyped up. But it was a little different this
time around. The Cowboys controlled the game from start to finish.
Cowboys jumped up to a twenty four to six league
The only touchdown score by the Eagles came from a
fumble recovery by Jalen Carter. Familiar name at this point
of the season. I still like where the spoon over
Jalen Carter, but it was interesting seeing him make a
big play there.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
Yeah, we're gonna talk about Jayleen Carter a little bit
just throughout the week, I'm sure, just because of all
the everyone kind of want Jail Carter to.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Be a Seawk.
Speaker 4 (02:48):
Obviously, Devin with thespoon has gone above and beyond, and
that is not a conversation at all. Nobody and hear
we want to say that is suggesting that at all,
because we know good Witherspoon is, but Carter is a
guy that a lot of people from Seattle spent a
lot of time. I'm looking up, so it'll be interesting
to watch him. I'm with you, Bump.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
I hope that he still can get Rookie of the Year.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
But you know it's a it's an East Coast by
his thing, right, guy plays in Philly, plays for the Eagles.
I don't know it's gonna be hard, but uh, the
rest of that game, Bump, it was close, Well it
wasn't close, excuse me. Uh, it was close in total
yards and stuff like that, But the biggest difference is turnovers.
Eagles turn the ball for three times, Cowboys just once.
(03:27):
Dak two seventy one two touchdown, Ceedee Lamb seventy one
yards a touchdown, and then Jalen Hurts he was okay
eighteen twenty seven, one hundred and ninety seven yards, no touchdowns,
no interceptions, but did fumble once. So, Bump, I don't know,
when you look at that game, does that give you
confidence for the Seahawks.
Speaker 6 (03:45):
Yeah, I do.
Speaker 5 (03:46):
I look at that game, and you see that the
Eagles aren't firing all cylinders right now. Now, they still
hold a lot of potential, right You still see Jalen
and A J. We're gonna talk about those guys. But
after looking at the last two weeks, you played two
common opponents, right, they played the Niners and the Cowboys,
and the Hawks played the Niners and the Cowboys, and
they played the Cowboys tough, and they played the Niners
(04:07):
tougher than what the numbers tell you. There are times
where these guys could have taken over. But no, man,
I'm excited about this. Let's get into some numbers in
this matchup, though they head to head. I'll talk about
the offense.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
Right.
Speaker 5 (04:18):
Offensively, the Eagles are ring number eighth overall, their eighth.
When it comes to running the ball, they average one
hundred and twenty four yards in the ground. They're thirteenth
when it comes to passing the ball, they average two
hundred and thirty four yards in the ground, and they're
six when it comes to points per game, they're averaging
about twenty six per game. Now on the Hawks side,
the twentieth overall, twenty eighth rushing, fifteenth passing, and seventeenth
(04:39):
when it comes to points. Once again, it's not a
surprise you look at the offensive numbers and the team
they're playing.
Speaker 6 (04:45):
This week has the advantage.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Yeah, they look good on offense.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
You know all the weapons that were about to get
into and man up there. They're very talented. They want
to see bowth for reasons. Santorini's guys boys playing well.
But then you look at this defense, Bo, You look
at this defense and it makes me feel good.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
Not because the Seahawks.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
Are twenty eighth in the NFL, or because they're twenty
third in run defense, or twenty fifth against the pass,
or twenty seven the points allowed.
Speaker 6 (05:10):
It's about the Eagles.
Speaker 4 (05:11):
If you're looking for a way to find something to
be positive about, this is what I'm talking about. This
is one of those moments to pay attention the Eagles.
They're ten or three on the season, went to Super
last year. They're a great team total defense. This year
they're twenty seconds, nothing to write home about. Give up
three hundred and fifty three yards per game. They're six
against the run, which is pretty damn good. But we'll
get into that later as there might be a little
(05:32):
creaking that pass defense are twenty eighth. They're giving up
almost two hundred and sixt yards per game and points allowed.
They are also twenty eighth giving up twenty four points
per game. So I look at those numbers and I go,
that's not the San Francisco forty nine ers. That's not
the Dallas Cowboys. That's not the Baltimore Ravens, that's not
the Cleveland Browns. Those aren't teams that this Seahawks team
(05:52):
has been facing week after a week after a week
after a week. And I'm not saying the Eagles are bad.
They got a lot of talent on that side of
the ball. But if you're looking for a play sixploit
them and a place where I really do feel like
the Seahawks, if they do what they're supposed to, you
can have an advantage.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
It's against that defense.
Speaker 5 (06:07):
Yeah, I look at the defense and I go, look
there's some holes over there. Man.
Speaker 6 (06:09):
They're not great.
Speaker 5 (06:10):
Against the pass, They're pretty good against the run, right
number six.
Speaker 6 (06:14):
Overall, they give up a lot of points.
Speaker 5 (06:16):
Twenty eighth overall when it comes to points, the Hawks
are twenty seven. So I look at the way this
offense has been performing with two different quarterbacks. We look
at Drew lock In the work that he did last
week against the Niners. Pretty good job there. You look
at Gino the week before against the Cowboys, he did
his thing.
Speaker 6 (06:31):
So we're expecting to see Gino.
Speaker 5 (06:33):
I throw that out there, But if you don't see Gino,
Drew Lock has shown that he can do enough against
a good defense last week to keep a team in
the game. So I would be optimistic if he were
the start of going into this week.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
Yeah, no question. I think I totally agree with one
hundred percent. This team can exploit some matchups. What does
matter who's playing quarterback. And the last thing I'll say
about the head the head is the Eagles are minus
four Seahawks or plus one and comes to turnover differential.
So the Eagles again you think for me, I think
of a super team. I think they would be so
much farther than that. They're tied for twenty first in
turnover defrenial, So another thing to keep your eye out on.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
Another thing we should talk.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
About is the history between these two ball clubs, which
had really favored the Seahawks the last couple of years.
Let's know the history, No, your history, Seahawks League all
time series eleven to seven during the regular season and
one to zero in the postseason. But the Seahawks have
won the last seven games including the playoffs. So I
like that last time these two teams linked up, it
(07:31):
was during the twenty twenty COVID season, Seahawks beating the
Eagles twenty three to seventeen, and the game really wasn't
as close to the final score. The Seahawks never trailed
in that game. They jumped out to a fourteen tonh
in league. Then they were up twenty three nine only
in the fourth quarter Eagles man just scored garbage time
touchdown and make it twenty three to seventeen. But the
game wasn't that close. And I remember DK Steele on
the show. He had ten receptions one hundred and seventy
(07:53):
seven yards and now it's his career high in yardage.
Also the third most receptions he's had in his career.
And I remember that game. I remember we were doing
the postgame show and we talked about it because I
feel like he had a couple of drops in that game.
He could have gone for two fifty or something insane,
but he bawled out. Chris Carson a decent day metcalf
against the Eagles. In the history, he's got two games.
(08:14):
He played three games against the Eagles and two of
those he's gone well over one hundred yards. So let
seeing that our guy kJ Wright had a nice day
of five tackles, one sack, two TfL's, one pass defended,
and one QB hit. And then the Hawks really got
after Carson wentz. This is kind of the beginning of
the end for Carson in Philly. He went twenty five
or forty five, two fifteen, two touchdowns, one I in
t and sacked six times. So Seahawks are hoping to
(08:37):
keep the good times rolling against the Eagles this Monday night.
But let's check in with the rest of the division.
What's the word?
Speaker 5 (08:46):
What side.
Speaker 6 (08:49):
The Seahawks or the NFC West champs?
Speaker 1 (08:51):
Again, what's the word in the West? On Hawk talk?
Speaker 5 (08:57):
All right, let's take a look at the NFC West.
So far, the San Francisco forty nine ers lead the charge.
There are at ten to three. The Rams have been
playing some good ball as of late. We'll talk about that.
They are six and seven. New York Seattle Seahawks are
six and seven, and at the bottom we got the
Cardinals at three and ten. But let's focus on the
Rams for a little bit. Man, The best thing that
happened for the Seahowks. Last weekend was the game between
(09:19):
the Rams and the Ravens. We need the Rams to
lose as many games as possible because they hold the
tiebreaker when it comes to getting into the playoffs, So
it's going to be a tight race, all right.
Speaker 6 (09:30):
It was a while back and forth game.
Speaker 5 (09:32):
We saw the Rams kick a game tying field go
at the end of regulation, making to score thirty one
to thirty one, and they forced overtime. In overtime, the
Rams forced the Ravens to punt on the opening possessions.
The Ravens would then return the favor by forcing the
Rams to punt. But on the pump return, we saw
something we don't see very much in the NFL anymore.
We had missed the Wallace take the punt back seventy
(09:53):
six shards for the game winning touchdown. Wallace became the
fourth player in NFL history to score touchdown on a
punt return. And oh t was a Deshaun Jackson against
the Giants punt was that?
Speaker 6 (10:04):
Was that?
Speaker 3 (10:04):
Just?
Speaker 4 (10:05):
I think that sealed the game. Now, I think that
was the end of the fourth quarter. I think it
was like twenty second stuff in the game. Yeah, when
I think a game winning returns.
Speaker 5 (10:12):
That's where my mind goes to one of the gings
to do it, Toshaun Jackson. It was not the game
we expected. We thought the Ravens were gonna get her done.
You saw what they did to the Seattle Seahawks, right,
but uh Lamar Jackson was twenty four or forty three
for three hundred and sixteen yards and three touchdowns one interception.
He also had seventy yards on eleven carries. You got
obj Isaiah Likely and Jay Flowers each caught touchdowns. But
(10:35):
the Rams you had Matthew Stafford, who does what he does.
He was twenty three or forty one for two hundred
and ninety four yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions. And
the young running back from Notre Dame over there, Cabrin Williams,
had one hundred and fourteen yards on twenty five carries.
Cooper Cup led all receivers with one hundred and fifteen
yards and eight receptions and one touchdowns. Of the Rams
in the season with the Commanders, Saints, Giants, Niners, I
(10:58):
see at least one loss in there. If I can
pick another one, I can lean towards the Commanders because
you never know what Sam Howell, and then you got
Tommy Davito over there for the.
Speaker 6 (11:08):
Shaking things up.
Speaker 5 (11:09):
So Nas, I might see three You might call me crazy,
but I see three losses over there.
Speaker 4 (11:13):
Possibly they're losing to the forty nine ers, even if
the Niners rest players at the end of the year.
But with the Niners, Cowboys, Eagles all fighting for that
one seed, I don't think they'll have the opportunity to
do that.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
Now.
Speaker 4 (11:24):
The Commanders, like you said, you never know. We've we've
played that team. They can they can come up and
get you if they want to play good football. The
Saints you never know either. They came there up and down.
And the Giants to Vito, Man, you just helped us
out beating the Packers. I mean, he's out there, they're
handing out cutlets. You know, he's living at his mom's house.
His agent looks like he's out of a movie or something.
Some real New York stuff right there. But no, I
(11:46):
feel good about it. And here's the thing, se Yawk fans,
we gotta be scoreboard watching from here on out, So
we're rooting against just so we're all clear, everybody essentially
rooting against everyone in the NFC. But we're rooting against
the Vikings, We're rooting against the Rams, We're rooting against
everyone in the NFC South. So just be scoreboard watching.
We'll keep you, you know, we'll keep you in check
on everything you need to know about that. But that's
(12:08):
the word in the West. Let's flip it back to
the team Seahawks are playing, these Philadelphia Eagles.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
Man up, man up on Hawk Talk.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
Bump.
Speaker 4 (12:25):
I'll let you get into Jalen Hurts here in a second,
but I wanted to share some interesting things that I
found about this Eagles team.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
I've been grinding the numbers.
Speaker 4 (12:33):
I've been in the lab trying to find any advantage
I think the Seahawks fans could have beyond the naked
eye that we've seen the last.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
Couple of weeks.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
So here's a couple of things that sit out to me.
First Off, there's only five teams with the winning records
in the NFC. That's why it's way like anyway. So
of those five teams, you got San Fran, Dallas, Detroit, Minnesota,
and Philly. Of those teams, Philly has the worst point differential.
You got San Fran one hundred plus one, seventy five
(13:01):
Dallas plus one, eighty eight Detroit plus twenty six, Minnesota
plus twenty four Philly only plus twenty one.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
Okay, well what does that mean.
Speaker 4 (13:09):
What that means is they got the sixth best scoring
offense but the twenty eighth best scoring defense at twenty
four points per game.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
That means they play close games.
Speaker 4 (13:18):
Of their ten wins, only three of them, but it's
been decided by more than a score. So that tells
you they're not just out here blowing people out. They
play close games. And even they've had trouble with the Commanders,
they've had trouble with teams that other people would perceive
is not very good. They've also trailed at halftime in
the last six games. And this is what really shocked me, Bump.
(13:39):
I had to check this about four or five times
because I thought I was crazy. Philly is the worst
in the NFL on third down. Opponents are converting forty
eight percent of the time.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
That's here.
Speaker 4 (13:52):
I mean at that point, I don't have lost rewards.
I mean the Seahawks have struggled on third down, and
the Seahawks are better than that. And then also when
you get in the red zone, against the Eagles, you
are scoring seventy percent of the times. Not just scoring,
you're scoring touchdowns seventy percent of the time. That's the
third worst in the NFL. So that's what I'm talking about,
Seahawk fans. If you're looking for something to hang your
(14:14):
hat on, it's some of those numbers. I just dropped
there because I truly think these are some of the
ways the Seahawks can get this done.
Speaker 6 (14:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (14:21):
I saw all these stats, and I go, are we
just being brainwashed by the media? Is the media making
us believe that Philly is better than what they are now?
Speaker 6 (14:31):
Ten and three? Respect But there's some holes in.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
The game, man.
Speaker 5 (14:35):
But let's talk about a guy who doesn't really have
holes in his game because all he does is win.
Speaker 6 (14:39):
It's Jalen Hurst. That's the first matchup.
Speaker 5 (14:41):
Now, this guy, when the Eagles have him in the
regular season in their lineup, they are twenty four and four,
all right, he has a winning percentage of zero point
seventy four to four. That's about seventy four percent.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
Man.
Speaker 5 (14:54):
He is up thirty two and eleven since twenty twenty one.
He's that's the best amongst qbs in that spam twenty
twenty two was a great year for the Eagles and
really this guy Jalen Hurts. He finished second in MVP voting,
third in Offensive Player of the Year voting. He was
a Pro Bowler in a two time All Pro QB
not to mention, help lead the Eagles to the Super Bowl,
(15:15):
they lost a close one to the Chief Stone.
Speaker 6 (15:17):
He's continued to play well this year.
Speaker 5 (15:20):
Right He's two hundred and eighty six for four to
thirty thirty one hundred and ninety two yards. His completion
percentage is sixty six point five yes, nineteen touchdowns, ten interceptions,
and we all know he can carry the rock one
hundred and twenty six carries for four hundred and sixty
yards and twelve touchdowns. Jalen is a special type of player,
(15:41):
and he's even a better leader. There's not too many
guys where I hear them talk, I kind of lock
in and be like, I'm hanging off of everything he's saying.
Jalen kind of has that presence man amongst all the
other other quarterbacks in the league. He's twelfth and completion
percent is tenth and yards twelfeen yards per game, ninth
in QB rating. Ninth in QBR and tied for second
in rushing touchdowns Jalen. He's also second in NFL with
(16:03):
thirty one total chutsounds, only trailing Josh Allen. I feel
like this is like the new quarterback mans. If you
ain't mobile, you're gonna stand a chance in this league.
Even Sam Howell is mobile, even Tommy DeVito is mobile.
There's not too many guys who are just gonna stand it.
Even Justin Herbert is mobile. But when it comes to
(16:24):
really getting done, he might be the best of the
game right now.
Speaker 4 (16:26):
Him and Lamar, Yeah, I mean I wasn't sure. I've
always liked Jalen Hurts. I like Jaaling Hurts Alabama, how
he handled everything with Tua Tony Bailoa. I liked him
at Oklahoma. I liked him when the Eagles took a
shot on him. And everyone's kind of like, I don't
know if this guy's got it. I think they went
to the Wildcard playoffs and lost to Tom Brady that
first year, and then he's figured it out since then.
(16:47):
So I've always been rooting for him and he shows up.
I mean, he does it on the field, and the
numbers don't lie you know what I mean. It's another
year where he's gonna be in the MVP vote. He's
gonna be right up in that conversation, and it'll be
really decided the last couple weeks how we respond the
next couple of games. So wish him the best of luck.
Not this weekend, not this Monday night. I'll tell you
that this week I root for him, and I I
(17:09):
hope the Seahawks can figure it out defensively because they
struggled as of late. Gave up five hundred and twenty
seven yards to the forty nine ers, which is the
most yards allowed since Week twelve last year against the Raiders.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
The Hawks are.
Speaker 4 (17:19):
Won and for this season in games where they allowed
more than four hundred yards twenty eighth and total defense
twenty fifth against the pass. So Seahawks are gonna have
their work cutout form Jaalen Hurts is a great quarterback,
but you know, if they stay fundamental and do things
that they know they can do, I think they can
slow him down. Looking at our quarterbacks, Gino Smith Drew
Locke taking on this Eagles defense. We know Gino missed
(17:41):
last week. He's been the starter, you know, for a
year and some change. Gino didn't miss a snap at
all last season, which just is something that we were
kind of spoiled by, even with Russ here, all those
years of guys not getting hurt, and it's hard to
be that durable the NFL.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
Things happened.
Speaker 4 (17:57):
He tweaked his me at some point this year, he
got hit on the l and then finally with the groin,
he just wasn't.
Speaker 1 (18:02):
Able to do it.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
And I keep hearing stuff. Sorry, I just slight tangent here.
I've been hearing all week stuff, all these conspiracy theories.
What are you talking about? Geno Smith heard his groin,
that's why he didn't play. It just I've heard some
really bad takes. Bump, I'm sorry, man. Anyway, Gino hurd
his groin. There's no conspiracy theory. He heard his groin.
(18:24):
He's busting his you know what, to get back and
play this week. But that's why he didn't play against
the forty nine ers Drew Locke. He played, He did
some good things, did some bad things. You know, it's
a really tough task to play against a team like that.
You know, he got a couple of gays of practice,
getting number one reps, but that's a hard team to
get thrown into. He was twenty two of thirty one
two sixty nine two touchdowns, also through two interceptions with
(18:47):
sack four times. We know Gino Smith can do, we
know where he's at. His numbers are slightly down from
twenty twenty two, but you know he's We've seen what
he can do. He's really disappointed to see this injury
pop up, especially how Gino played against the Cowboys. So
assuming Gino can get a you know, an extra day
to rest, I'm really hoping he's back in the lineup.
And like we alluded to earlier, it's great because the
(19:09):
Seahawks aren't facing an elite defense.
Speaker 1 (19:11):
They're facing a defense that is below average.
Speaker 4 (19:13):
If you took the Eagles off their name, you would
say bad things about this defense, but it is what
it is. Twenty second total defense, twenty eighth against the
past six against a run, twenty eighth in points allowed,
twelve with sack.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
So I'm really rooting for Gino.
Speaker 4 (19:25):
Obviously, I think the Seahawks can win with either quarterback,
but I have a good feeling that Gino is going
to be back, and if he is back, you know,
he can really attack this Eagles defense.
Speaker 6 (19:34):
Yeah, looking forward to Gino. Hope he's ready to go.
Speaker 5 (19:37):
A matchup that I think deserves more respect than its
probably gonna get is DeAndre Swift against the Seahawks front seven.
My man is his first year with the Eagles, and
he's balling.
Speaker 6 (19:49):
He's from the area and went to high school. I'm
in the area.
Speaker 5 (19:51):
Back in twenty sixteen, he's forty yards away from setting
a career high with yards from scrimmage. Now he's already
got a career high in rushing eight hundred.
Speaker 6 (19:58):
And eighty two.
Speaker 5 (19:59):
The previous high I was six hundred and seventeen back
in twenty twenty one. He is a player that is
explosive and violent with his shifts, like there's some running
backsho are smooth.
Speaker 6 (20:11):
With the way that he runs, He's got a little
bit at in him.
Speaker 5 (20:14):
But when he puts his foot in the ground and
he makes that slight move, man, it's violent and it's
fun to watch.
Speaker 6 (20:19):
Honestly, I just don't want it to be fun.
Speaker 5 (20:21):
This week, he's one of only six NFL running backs
to produce eight hundred and seventy five plus scrimmage yards
and seven plus touchdowns in each of his last three seasons.
I'm talking about Nick Chubb did it, Zekiel Elliott did it,
Derek Henry has done it, Josh Jacobs, Aaron Jones, all greats.
Speaker 6 (20:36):
Right.
Speaker 5 (20:37):
Like I mentioned this season eight hundred and twenty two yards,
four touchdowns, but he also has thirty six receptions for
two hundred and eight yards in one touchdown. The last
three games, the Seahawks have allowed an average of one
hundred and fifty nine yards per game on the ground.
It doesn't help that two of the last three of
the games came against the forty nine ers. Best running
back in the game statistically is on that team, and
he's on the league's third rushing offense.
Speaker 6 (20:59):
So yes, they're giving up a bunch of yards.
Speaker 5 (21:02):
Yes you're going up again, Swift, but the last three
games can kind of those numbers are skewed a little bit.
I'm not saying that DeAndre Swift isn't capable of going
off and half of the day.
Speaker 6 (21:11):
I'm just saying he ain't Christian McCaffrey.
Speaker 5 (21:13):
Yes, he's special, he's having a career year, but he
can be contained for a game or two.
Speaker 4 (21:19):
Yeah, he's uh. We knew he was good in Detroit
for sure, but he was always kind of splitting carries.
He was never really the guy in Detroit. So it's
interesting to see him get those kind of carries. And
he's on a team with a quarterback that runs the
ball a ton, so that's even more carries you know
he's not getting, but so interesting to see what he
can do. He's obviously playing really good football. Now when
you flip it over to the receiver corps man doesn't
(21:43):
get any easier for the Seahawks. You were just messing
around with Deebo and Ayuk and the guys that they
got over there. Now you got aj Brown and DeVonta Smith.
They're really good. AJ Brown, former teammate of DK Metcalf
over there at Old Miss, picked up Bright left off
last year twenty twenty two, he said career highs and
yards and touchdowns, and he's right back on pace be
doing that again last year. He's second team All Pro
(22:05):
and a Pro Bowler for the second time. This season,
he's got one thousand, two hundred and fifty eight receiving yards,
which is second in the NFL, only behind Tyreek Hill,
who's having an unbelievable season. He's also fifth in the
league when it comes to receptions, only player in Eagles
history to have twelve hundred yards in back to back seasons,
which is saying a lot a lot of guys who
played there, including the guys like too and whatnot. So
(22:26):
on the year, he's having a good season. Now next
to him, he got Davonta Smith, the former Heisman Trophy
winner from twenty twenty one tenth overall pick. He was
the first receiver to win the Heisman since Desmond Howard
in nineteen ninety one when he won it. He's six foot,
one hundred and seventy five pounds. Yeah right, I don't
believe that for a minute, but that's what the roster says.
(22:47):
So that's what I've read to y'all. But he's been
nothing but productive too, three thousand yards in just forty
seven games in his career, ninety three yards shive his
second straight one thousand yard season dating back to Week eight.
He rakes eighth in the NFL with a team leading
five hundred and twenty four yards in four touchdowns. So
on the air, nine hundred and seven yards six touchdowns
on sixty nine receptions.
Speaker 1 (23:08):
So we'll see. I'm really hoping Devin Withers, who was back.
Speaker 4 (23:11):
It seems like throughout the week that's what we're hearing
that he's gonna be a lot closer to playing. He's
third in the NFL with sixteen passes defended, only one
game where he doesn't have one of those. Like I said,
I'll be bounce back from a hit pointer because the
Seahawks really need him, and I feel like it changed
when he was not in the ballgame. So between him,
Trey Brown, Rik Willing, they're gonna have their hands full
and they got to keep guys in front of them
(23:31):
playing it.
Speaker 6 (23:31):
Simple fundamental defense is what I'm looking for.
Speaker 5 (23:34):
Let's talk about our receivers though, but you got DK,
Tyler Lockin and JSN against this secondary man. This should
be in the seahawks favor, honestly, especially when you see
what DK's done the last five games. In the last
five games, he's got twenty three receptions four hundred and
ten yards in five touchdown touchdowns. He's also caught a
touchdown in three of the last four games. The last
(23:57):
time DK lined up against Eagles, we remember that ten
receptions one hundred and seventy seven yards. That's his career
high in the third most receptions he's had in his career.
Met has gone over one hundred yards two of the
last three games, so he's in a nice little groove
right now. He's thirty six yards to become the third
player in NFL history to reach fifty receptions, nine hundred
yards and five touchdowns in each of his first five seasons.
Speaker 6 (24:19):
Who were talking about Randy Moss and AJ Green. That's nuts.
Speaker 5 (24:23):
He also needs one hundred and thirty six ytards for
back to back a thousand yard seasons and almost guaranteed
he's going to get that on the year fifty one receptions,
eight hundred and sixty four yards and seven touchdowns.
Speaker 6 (24:33):
Tyler Lockett's come off a good game.
Speaker 5 (24:35):
He was the most consistent receiver we had last game,
six receptions for eighty nine yards, including two big third
down conversions the only third down conversions to Hogs had
last game. You know, it's count on Tyler Lockett. He's
on the verge of history too, man, and he doesn't
have to do anything crazy to accomplish that. He needs
two receptions to become the second player in franchise history
(24:55):
and ninety fourth player in NFL history.
Speaker 6 (24:57):
To reach six hundred career receptions.
Speaker 5 (24:59):
He needs one touchdown the pass Kurt Warner on fourth
place on Seattle's all touchdown list with sixty three, and
he needs one one hundred yard game to tye Daryl
Jackson for second place for the most one hundred yard
games in Seattle history with nineteen. On the year, he's
got sixty five receptions, seven hundred and eleven yards and
four touchdowns. Defending DK and Tyler, you got Darius Slay
(25:20):
who's a baller, and James Bradberry, who we used to
go up against I believe when he was with the Giants.
Speaker 6 (25:26):
Slays in his eleventh season, but don't sleep on them.
Speaker 5 (25:29):
He's been named the Pro Bowl five times and was
First team All Pro in twenty seventeen. He's got fourteen
passes defended two interceptions in one TfL. Brad Berry on
the other side, he's in his eighth NFL season and
second with Philly, made the Pro Bowl in twenty twenty.
His stats this year eleven passes defended, one interception. Now,
(25:50):
you got those two guys on the back end and
their ballers, but as a team, they're not very good
when it comes to defending the past, So I expect
these guys to have a day Tyler DK JSM ride
the wave of last week and improve on it. Man,
because we saw DK be explosive, we saw Tarlock could
be consistent, and we saw JSN get more involved in
(26:13):
this offense with how they're using them. So I like
where they are when it comes to using their weapons
on the outside.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
Yeah, you said it. This is the match of the
Seahawks win.
Speaker 4 (26:22):
I wholeheartedly believe that they're playing well at something they
could exploit and yeah, we got to see it happen.
Speaker 1 (26:28):
It's make plays, make plays on Monday night.
Speaker 4 (26:31):
Now, another matchup we want to camp pass up here
is the Eagles front seven taken on Seahawks running backs.
Speaker 1 (26:36):
That's Ken Walker and Zach Sharbonnay.
Speaker 4 (26:39):
Now, this is this is an interesting facet of the
game right now because I remember earlier we talked about
the Eagles. They don't have the greatest defensive numbers, but
they stop the run. They're six in the NFL in
that category, in line with just ninety four yards per game.
But when you dive a little deeper into those numbers,
they've really struggled as of late in the last four games,
they've allowed six hundred and twenty five yards rushing. That's
(27:00):
good for one hundred and fifty six yards per game. Okay,
they give one hundred and sixty eight to Kansas City,
one seventy three to Buffalo, one forty six to San Francisco,
one thirty eight to Dallas. So are those good teams, bump, Yes,
they are. But Kansas City, that's not what they do.
They're not known for running the football.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
Nope.
Speaker 4 (27:21):
Buffalo there, they have decent numbers because their quarterback does well,
but that's not what they do.
Speaker 1 (27:26):
San Francisco, yeah, we get it.
Speaker 4 (27:27):
We've seen that, been there, we got you on that.
Speaker 1 (27:31):
We feel you on that. And then Dallas too.
Speaker 4 (27:34):
I mean so, all I'm saying is, again, they stop
the run well, but where they're playing right now as
of today, they aren't stopping the run very well. And
the other weird thing too, is they haven't had one
they haven't allowed one person to go over one hundred
yards yet, so they're getting hurt by committee in these games.
Josh Allen, I mentioned Buffalo, he ran for eighty one
yards against them a couple of weeks ago, and I go, okay,
he had a fifty yard er for sure, you know
(27:55):
what I mean, or something like that, and I go No,
his longest carry was nineteen yards nine for eighty one yards.
So there's something there, there's something to be had. So hey,
I'm hoping Gino's growing is Gucci because there's something that
you can exploit there.
Speaker 1 (28:07):
But so they're not.
Speaker 4 (28:09):
They're not playing well in the run game as of late,
which makes me come to the Seahawks. The Seahawks haven't
really run the ball well most of this year and
haven't had one hundred yard rushers since the Commanders and
bomb Botles lay it out straight, this is what it is.
Seahawks run for one hundred yard as a team, they're
five and oh. When they don't, they're one in seven.
(28:31):
Interesting when you hear those numbers, what comes to mind? Man,
they're five and oh in the rest of one hundred yards,
not one hundred and fifty, not one hundred and eighty
to one hundred yards, and they're one and seven when
they don't.
Speaker 5 (28:42):
I hear that number, it tells me that one Geno
is one of the best in the game. It comes
to play action. Yep, he is the most accurate when
he can fake the football to the running backs and
let it go. Also, what that does is those linebackers
bite up when you are running the full ball. Effectively,
they respect the run. They bite up lanes open on
the back end. So what that means to me is
(29:03):
that you are gonna have to challenge this team. I
know they are good against the run. They are actually
number six against the rum, allowing ninety four.
Speaker 6 (29:14):
Yards per game.
Speaker 5 (29:15):
All right, get them six six sixty ten yards over
their average and you get to go. So I think
that there's another nugget. That's right. They're not good in
the red zone. Their third down defensive suspect, their point
differential is bad. And all the Hawks have to do
is rush for one hundred yards by the being balla boom,
big ups the time of de Vito and we got this.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
Hey, perfect transition.
Speaker 4 (29:37):
Let's tell Mark win this game, patter victory.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
After forty five waits for the snat, Michael Vickton puts
it down.
Speaker 1 (29:45):
That kick is away. If that kick is.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
Good, good, say off when it's good.
Speaker 1 (29:51):
It's a path to victory on Hawk Talk.
Speaker 4 (29:54):
Well, I'm just started getting you guys right of how
the gonna win this game? This is game four or
four of this gonglet for the Seahawks, and the Seahawks
are essentially in playoff mode right now. I think it
starts Monday night. If they lose on Monday, they are
not eliminated for the playoffs. So I want to make
that very clear. But things just get really hard because
number one, this is an NFC game. The Seahawks only
have two games against the NFC the rest of the way.
(30:14):
So the second tiebreaker, after I had to head a
lot of time, it's conference records. So that's another thing
that's gonna really hurt the Seahawks if they drop this one.
So essentially, the Seahawks and really put themselves in a
great position with a win on Monday Night against the
Eagles in the NFC jump out to you know, even
up your record and now you have a real chance.
Speaker 1 (30:34):
But then the Seahawks need to play with urgency.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
Man.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
They need to play like this is a playoff game.
Speaker 4 (30:38):
They need to play like there's nothing else they can
do and there is no tomorrow. And I think they
can at Lumenfield under the lights, it's gonna be a
great show.
Speaker 1 (30:45):
But they got to play with that desperation. You feel
me bump.
Speaker 5 (30:49):
Yeah they got They gotta come out hot, ready to go.
Use the prime time lights to get you going. Like
I mentioned is rush for one hundred yards. You take
advantage of this passing defense that's twenty eighth in the league.
Speaker 6 (31:01):
I'm talking about Philly. You'd be good on third downs.
Speaker 5 (31:04):
There are some common things when it comes to playing
some good football, and those are always going to be
out there the stats that is mentioned, and then on defense,
just gets some stops and avoid the big play as
much as possible. San Francisco had three hundred and sixty
five yards on ten plays last week. Ten plays, three
hundred and sixty five yards.
Speaker 6 (31:23):
You do the math.
Speaker 5 (31:24):
It's pretty easy. I just don't feel like doing it.
Don't allow the big play, yeah, no question about it.
I mean that's too much. It's too much. And the
Seagalk team is better than that. I know they're better
than that.
Speaker 4 (31:34):
I think they're gonna get a chance to show it
under the lights with their backs against the wall. And
if you want to win this game, don't get in
third one. That's not just message. Just let's just take
that off the table. I don't need to see no
brotherly shove. Whatever they want to be calling it. Don't
need to see it, but that this Seahawk team has
everything in front of them, everything to play for. Pete
Carroll teams responding these situations, and I feel very good
(31:57):
about Monday night.
Speaker 1 (32:00):

edition of Hawk Talk. And if you leave with anything today,
lead with the fact that the Seahawks have a chance
and they're gonna exploit that Eagles defense. We will talk
to you next week, hopefully about the Seahawks win. This
has been Hawk Talk.
