What's up, Moy? How you doing? Man?
Speaker 4 (00:33):
I'm I'm gonna be low key tonight.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
What do you mean? What does that mean?
Speaker 5 (00:37):
Because I've been very excited this week from what we
saw last Sunday.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
So you're trying to taper expectations, like what does that mean?
Speaker 5 (00:46):
I don't want people thinking I'm Homer and then we're
going to Super Bowl with my passion for what this
defense look like on Sunday. But been waiting eight years
for it, eight years for this defense to look like
a championship defense, a defense that when you watch San
(01:07):
Francisco and Baltimore and you and I have talked about
it a bunch.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
As I go.
Speaker 5 (01:10):
They play at another speed, another level of want to.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
It's want.
Speaker 5 (01:17):
There's times when you you you looked at our team
in the past, and it's not that it's bad.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
It's not bad.
Speaker 5 (01:22):
I mean you go, Okay, I get it, but it
ain't great. And you know when you see greatness, right,
and well I saw Sunday was that was.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
A great performance?
Speaker 3 (01:32):
You sat saw greatness.
Speaker 5 (01:34):
And it wasn't one guy. I mean, the guy who
jumps out to me was newcomer Dotson. I mean, man,
the speed that he plays at and the desire. Man,
it's I mean, you you can make up for so
much when you have somebody who plays with that kind
of passion.
Speaker 4 (01:53):
But guess what. Julian Loved did the same thing.
Speaker 5 (01:56):
Guess what so did Jenkins, and guess what so did Witherspoon,
and guess what wool And guess what so did Mathey,
and so did Murphy, and so did Williams, and so
did Wallace and so did uh. Basically it was at
k guy big, I'm telling you, it was pretty much everybody.
(02:18):
Matter of fact, one of our best players last year.
It wasn't that he played bad. It just you know,
sometimes he's doubled. He didn't get a lot of opportunities.
It was read and I was like, oh, you know, yeah,
that's one of our very best players. But it's I mean,
everything has been elevated. And I cannot understate this enough.
The addition of Jenkins, Dotson and Baker. Yeah, that's the
(02:45):
difference and the and the reason why it's elevated everybody
in our defense.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
It's a want to now, it's a desire.
Speaker 5 (02:51):
Last year, he used to watch this and I go, mabe,
we're just not We're not playing this play like it's
the last play of my career, and you have to
play this game.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
I think McDonald talks about to play on an edge.
Speaker 5 (03:02):
You gotta be on an edge to be great, and
that's what I saw last week.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
It's one game.
Speaker 5 (03:08):
I'm not crowning them top ten best defense, but we're
gonna match up with a lot of people. I'm really
excited to see this week's game against New England because
New England's gonna play big boy football. They're gonna line
up with two three tight ends. They're gonna force our
corners to play the run like they did against Cincinnati,
They're gonna try to get some sustained long drives and
eat up clock. They're not gonna beat us throwing the
(03:28):
ball consistently.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
You can't do it big boy football. On defense, you
know they're gonna try and get you into situations you
don't like. So it's a.
Speaker 5 (03:36):
Completely different game than what we just came from with
the Broncos. So I'm really excited to see how we
match up there.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
I'm excited about the defense as well. What I loved
about it was the intensity that this defense played with.
They were flying to the football, they were tackling you,
but they were hitting you at the same time. I
feel like last year guys were going for the hit
without securing the tackle. This year, one game, it felt
like you got a little bit of both. Here's what
I struggle with. We realized that the Denver Broncos weren't
(04:05):
a great team, but you still needed to see what
we saw last week. So now I look at this
week's challenge and we'll dive in deeper later, but now
I see a team that's a bit better than the
Denver Broncos. I believe they were better than what I
expected New England to be they beat the Bengals, but
I want to see the next step defensively. The next
step to me looks like the defensive line getting after
(04:28):
the quarterback and making more plays. They played well. I
think Big Cat played well. I think Biran Murphy played
better than what people might think if you look at
his film. But offensively is where things were a little
shaky to start. You start the game, you have a sack,
you have an interception, and then you get the ball again.
You have a false start twenty four plays in the
(04:48):
first half opposed to the Broncos forty four plays, So
that just lets you know they weren't connecting things. But
then they come out in the second half and then
figure some things out. They commit to the run, and
they get things going. It was the perfect storm, in
my opinion. Your defense comes out and balls out your
often struggles, and they figure out a way to produce
points and win a game. If you're Mike McDonald, first
(05:11):
time head coach, first regular season game, how do you
think he fell walking away from this?
Speaker 5 (05:17):
Unbelievable Because like in the NFL, it's just about winning.
I'm gonna come back to that sex because I'm a
playoff talking about the Bengals, New England beat the Bengals.
The Bengals were not good enough to withstand the turnovers
that they had.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
They fumbled the punt too.
Speaker 5 (05:34):
They were about to score a touchdown and they're on
the one yard line. The guy doesn't secure the ball
and get stripped. They picked the ball up and returned
out to about the twenty yard line. Talking about New England,
they have another turnover. Three turnovers. First half. We have
four turnovers. We have the interception, which, by the way,
should have been a penalty. He got hit with the
ankle on the knee. I don't understand in this day
(05:56):
and age how they don't throw a flag. You gotta
be kidding me. He is hit before he throws it.
That's the reason for the interception. We fumble a punt
to another one. We give up six points on that.
We don't give up any yards and give up six.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
We have a.
Speaker 5 (06:10):
Legal procedure and a holding penalty on one of our
drives that negates a play. So we got a punt again.
We have two drives in a row where the ball goes.
Speaker 4 (06:20):
On the one yard line. We have a holding penalty.
Speaker 5 (06:22):
It's a turnover because it's a safety, which means we
got to kick the ball right back to him and
we give them two points. That's a turnover. Very next drive,
wh's on the one yard line or may it wasn't.
The next drive, same thing on the one yard line.
This time one of our guards takes a false step
that he should need to secure with the ball going
the other way, they get another safety. That's another turnover
because we literally had two plays. Actually we didn't have two.
(06:45):
We fumble a punt return, no plays. We have one
play safety got to kick the ball. One play safety
got to kick the ball, and the offense, of course,
you're gonna have twenty four yards. So it's not an excuse,
it's just here's the reason for the twenty four snaps.
We were good enough to overcome that with our great
defense and then got back onto our game plan. And
(07:08):
I'd give Grub credit. He you know, he calls it
what he called the last play his it's like a
go to play. They were saving the play for when
they had to have a winning play, and that was
the one time. H Yeah, they called it something in
his press cor or has press conference today. We were
good enough to turn the ball over four times in
(07:29):
the first half, only be down thirteen to nine and
come back take a double digit lead. And you know,
guests hang on to win to an extent, I don't
want to say hang on. We we got the first down,
we put the game away at the end when when
we need.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
Now we hunggong. Because you were sitting next to me,
You're like, I don't know, but I don't know a
big scramble.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
Remember the next to scramble.
Speaker 5 (07:48):
I looked up at the clock and I started doing
the math, and I go, this one's not over.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
But that's the NFL though, Yeah, like it's this isn't
Alabama versus Chattanooga of Northern Washington Eastern Texas, right, this
is You are playing in one league with thirty two teams,
and the worst team in the league still has some
All Americans on that squad, so you have to put
guys away. There was one blowout this weekend, and that
(08:15):
was New Orleans Saints against the Carolina Panthers. Other than that,
when you go across the league, you're only gonna win
by seven to ten points. You're it's rare that you
put a team away by three scores.
Speaker 4 (08:25):
Well, you you gave up a stat and I kind
of questioned, You're like, there's no way it was the
Remember there's a seven and a half.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
Point game and it was from NASA Schoby.
Speaker 5 (08:36):
So blowout or upset, which was the nast biggest upset.
That just goes to show how tight seven and a
half point underdog was the biggest underdog to win on
the opening week.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
That was New England versus the Bengals.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
That's that's shocking.
Speaker 5 (08:55):
Yeah, you know, and again New England's or excuse me,
Cincinnati's not great, but they're good. New England not great,
but you're gonna have to go beat them.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
You still have to pick Cincinnati to win that game
though at home? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (09:05):
Absolutely, And so I just you know, it shows New
England as a game that we're gonna have. It's gonna
be a slugfest. Man, I can't wait. I heard Wallace
on Wyman and Bob today and he said, love our
game plan, love it.
Speaker 4 (09:19):
And you know what, I didn't hear that much last year.
Speaker 5 (09:22):
You know, they just believe in McDonald. Whether it's real
or not doesn't matter. Perception is reality. And I did
like our game plan. I love our effort. We can
play anything. With our speed, our secondary can cover. We're
great tackling team. There's a fine line between taking a
shot in the open field and missing a tackle, and
taking a shot when you know that your your teammates
(09:45):
can be right there just in case you miss. I
felt like we were on a string the whole game
where they knew that, Okay, if I miss, I'm gonna
force this back inside because Love is going to be
right there, Jenkin's gonna be right there, or Dots gonna
be right there to make the tackle.
Speaker 4 (09:59):
So it was just really good. Man, It's best defense.
Speaker 5 (10:02):
Not statistically, it was the best defense I saw play
with the Seahawks in the last eight years.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
So I'm leaving with a couple things. One one game in,
you got a top ten defense with the Seattle seas Hey,
we'll take that. Take that for what it is too.
Last year, it seemed like the Hawks were barely passing
the test at times, right they weren't studying, but they
were smart enough to kind of get to the right
spot and do their thing. This year, one game in,
(10:31):
it felt like these guys were studying for the tests.
They saw the question and already knew the answer. I'm
gonna circle B. I'm gonna circle see that's what it
felt like. So one weekend again, there's a lot of
football to be played. We gotta go against New England
this week and we'll dive into them a bit later.
But we're just getting started. Man, Hawks Live, Baby, let's
get it. We'll we come back. We'll have an opponent
(10:53):
preview that is next right here on Hawks Live.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
Hawks Slive presented by the Dining District at the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Square Center, live on air on Seattle Sports.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
This is Michael Bumps and Paul Moyer who listened to
Hawk's Life presented by the Dining District at the Bellevue
Collection every Thursday at seven right here on Seattle Sports
seven to ten, and we're at Bellevue Square Center for
it this time. To look towards the matchup this weekend.
You have the New England Patriots. We're going to their house.
East Coast, and back in my day Moyer eight nine, ten,
(11:35):
we were bad on the East Coast. We played the
New York Football Giants one time we had a ten
o'clock kickoff. It felt like I woke up at five am,
played at seven am, and I wasn't a ten to
eleven year old playing soccer in the morning. You know,
they make the young kids play early on Saturdays, soccer
at eight am. My body felt so slow and sluggish.
(11:56):
So one of the concerns that I had was just
what is Mike McDonald going to do to make sure
these guys are ready? Because Pete Carroll figured it out.
I think they were. They won twenty four thirty five
games on the East Coast at ten am kickoff while
he was there. What is Mike MacDonald going to take
from that? And what is he going to make his
own science and science? And I think that what I've
heard throughout the building is that he's going to lean
(12:17):
on the science and make sure these guys are ready
to go. But when we talk about the New England Patriots,
I'll give you some numbers and then you tell me
what you've seen on the film. One game in let's
keep that in mind when it comes to the offense.
All right. The Patriots put up two hundred and ninety
total yards, all right. They put up one hundred and
seventy rushing yards that was six in the league last week,
and also put up sixteen points as twenty seven. Defensively,
(12:39):
they allowed two hundred and twenty four yards that was
third last week. They allowed seventy rush yards as third
last week, one hundred and fifty four passing yards twelfth,
and then ten points that was tied for second. So
those are the numbers. They're skewed because it's only one weekend.
Me and Nasa Choby do a podcast every week and
we talk about it and say, look, week four or
(12:59):
five is kind of and you really figure out who
team is based on their opponents and their production. But you,
my friend, watch a lot of film on these guys.
When you look at the Pagos. What stands out to you?
Speaker 5 (13:11):
You know, tough team, you know, not again, probably not
going to beat us throwing the football.
Speaker 4 (13:18):
They want to run it. They want to limit possessions.
You know what.
Speaker 5 (13:23):
The really good game plan they had last week against Cincinnati.
What do you want to do against Cincinnati on the road.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
You want to keep the ball away from you know,
the Chase and Burrow and all their skill players. And
they did that. They ran the ball very well. Matter
of fact, what did our main guy there do Stevenson?
Speaker 5 (13:42):
He had one hundred and twenty yards on twenty five
carries average four point eight yards per carry. They ended
up rushing at almost forty times thirty nine for one
hundred and seventy not crazy numbers by any means. Their
longest pass was seventeen yards, But they just wanted to
eat the clock and they did that. I don't want
to say they were lucky. They weren't lucky. They had
a good game plan. They limited the big plays on
(14:05):
Cincinnati got off on third down, which is important had
I think they had three sacks against Burrow as well.
But they are going to force us to do things
we don't want to do that they did last week.
On the offense, as they said, we're gonna line up
big offensive line and some tight ends and they had
a couple of small corners, and we're going to force
(14:25):
them into the running game, either running some power plays
or they were just going to flat out, say one
on one running back versus corner with all that space
and make him tackle on the open field. I think
they'll do that with wool and two because in the
past he hasn't been great against the run. So just
a tough team. It's just going to be one of
those physical football games. I'm not nervous about it. I'm
(14:48):
not even worried about it. But the energy we played
with last week, I'm curious, can we play with that
kind of energy two weeks in a row, Because if
we can, it means this is our DNA and that's
the makeup of this defense. If we don't, I would
say a home crowd advantage first game. That's what really
(15:10):
catapulted us defensively. So it's gonna be a tough game.
They don't have a lot of big names. I mean,
for the most part, they've been rebuilding a lot of
draft picks, younger, younger team, lot of rookies, things like that.
But they also got the veterans in the right spot
and they're gonna try to win this by winning the
turnover battle and playing good defense.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
Well, they got a veteran quarterback over there, and Jacoby
burs said his ninth year in the league, got eighty games.
He started forty nine. It feels like he's been in
the league a long time, but not at the same
time because he hasn't been the regular starter for a
lot of these years. But he's played for the Dolphins,
for the Browns, the Commanders, New England. He's been around
the block a couple of times. Man, he was fifteen
(15:51):
to twenty four for one to twenty one, zero touchdowns,
zero interceptions, seven carries for thirty two yards. These are
the type of quarterback that concern me a bit because
he's only had six games where he's thrown for over
three hundred yards, so you know that it's in him,
but typically he's good for a buck fifty to twenty.
You just don't want him to get off and have
(16:13):
one of those career years. I feel like Moyer, if
you stop the run against these guys, you should have
an opportunity to win the game. Because I'm so confident
in the back end. I love what Jay Love is
doing in Jenkins and Witherspoon and Reek, and let's not
forget Trey Brown. When they go nickel, Trey Brown comes
in school, moves to the slide. Trey Brown had a
(16:34):
big play on third down where he was capable of
getting it done. So I look at this matchup and
I'm asking the Hawks to do something that they haven't
done in a long time, which just be efficient against
the run. If you can do that, then I think
these guys are going to be just fine.
Speaker 5 (16:49):
Well, First of all, Denver offensive line is really good, right.
You know, people don't realize that's one of the highest
paid offensive lines in the league.
Speaker 4 (16:57):
They are technically very sound.
Speaker 5 (17:00):
Or some plays where I went that was a tough
read and our linebackers did in lineman did a great
job with it. Our defensive linemen are really good at
getting two guys occupy two guys in a running game
to let our linebackers go ahead and fill and safeties
and witherspoon. And while we're small, it's just a bunch
of bees just coming at the man. It's just it's
relentless stuff. New England is seems like a bigger offensive line,
(17:25):
not as skilled.
Speaker 4 (17:26):
More you know, we're in a more brute force this thing.
Speaker 5 (17:29):
So again, I'm just curious to see how we match
up with it. Probably one of their best receivers is
a tight end, and it's Austin Hooper.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
I think he did did I say Hooper?
Speaker 3 (17:42):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (17:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (17:44):
He led the team last week four targets, only two receptions,
but he had thirty one yards I think one of
them long of sixteen.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
So but I think we match up so well.
Speaker 5 (17:53):
I mean, I got Wallace, I got Jenkins, I've got
Love who can all cover. I've got Dotson and Baker
who can cover. I mean, these guys are fast. I
don't know how fast Auttion is, but Dotson looks like
a fast.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
Safety, it does you know?
Speaker 5 (18:06):
He's kind of speaking. So we're covering all over the board.
And then again the running game.
Speaker 4 (18:12):
I think it's just by committee and we swarm, so
it's gonna be fun.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
If there's anything I think you and I are the
most confident in, is this defense? Right? We've seen one
week big Cat do his thing. Byron looks serviceable. That
second lever you mentioned Dotson and Bacon of course on
the back end. All right, but let's talk about this offense.
Ken Walker has an a doominal injury. We don't know
if he's gonna play or die. So if he is
(18:36):
not to play, and you have Zach Sharpne as the
one and Kenny McIntosh at the two, which I'm excited
to see. I've wanted to see Kenny McIntosh all last year.
He couldn't touch the field. How are you feeling about
this run game against this new England run defense.
Speaker 5 (18:52):
You know, I think it's gonna be one of those
grinded out games for us. You know, if you don't
have Walker, think about Walker and we'll show it or
talk about it later. Walker can go the distance without
a lot of guys blocking for you. You know, he's
gonna make guys miss, He's gonna break a tackle. His acceleration,
he gets the top speed so fast. And he's also
(19:14):
a guy can run twenty two miles an hour, you know,
so he's he's not a guy that you can necessarily
catch from behind. So I think it'll be different if
he doesn't play, it'll be more of a grinded out
you know, four yards five yards. I think we'll have
to beat him. Throw in the football I have to,
and maybe do that on early downs. I don't want
to get into some bad third down situations because that's
(19:34):
where New England turns it up and they'll get after you.
And they got some guys who can rush the passer. So,
you know, just a good balanced game, be physical. But
I think we're gonna have to beat him over the
top to win this, not to win the game, to
put the kind of points we want on the board offensively.
Speaker 3 (19:52):
All right, man, Well, it's gonna be a tough one.
I think expect a tough one in the NFL. This
is not college football. Hey, come join us here at
Hawk's Live at Bilvy Score Center Court, where you have
a chance to win a gift card from the Dining
District at the Belvy Collection. Tonight they're giving away gift

down here and get in and get that raffle in.
But when we come back, man, we're gonna talk to
Seahawks wide receiver Jake Bobo. That is next right here
on Hawk's Live.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
Hawks SLI appresented by the Dining District of the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Square Center Court, live on air on
Seattle Sport Soon.
Speaker 3 (20:42):

Speaker 4 (20:56):
Hey, man, I did a little shopping before.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
Did you what you give me?
Speaker 5 (21:01):
Let's put this way, there will be a day that
you and I look like twins. When got me some joggers?
Speaker 3 (21:06):
Okay, all right, let's go, let's go. I know who
got some joggers, yas, I know. I know who guys
some The guy we're talking to right now, Jake, Bubbo Bubbo,
you got you got some joggers, don't you.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
I got me a couple of pair of.
Speaker 3 (21:22):
Gotta love the yogers. Man, love it, man, Jake, it's
been a it's been a great ride for you so far. Man.
I've I covered you at the at the PAC twelve
network Rest in Peace. Sounds like we might be making
a comeback when you're with U c l A. And
you know, it's add two more and we're good to go.
And uh. I watched you do your thing at U
(21:43):
c l A. And then I watched you make the
team here last year, and then I've also watched you again.
Obviously every year it's a grind to make the team,
but I've seen you position yourself in a place to
where you know guys who are trying to beat you
out you're still trying to beat guys out, but guys
are coming after you. What what's that transition? Like it's
happened quickly, and obviously you're never satisfied, But what's that
(22:04):
transition from from hunting to being the hunted?
Speaker 2 (22:09):
Yeah, like you said, I think it's it's a little
bit different viewpoint kind of from the outside looking in,
But for me it was it was It's all the same,
just trying to earn a spot on this roster and
and and doing whatever I can to to get that spot,
and whether that's being the fourth receiver, you know, making
plays on special teams or whatever that is. I mean,
(22:32):
my mindset, I mean, to be honest with you guys,
was was very similar this year as it was last year.
I think the distance was, you know, I'm just a
little bit more familiar with this organization that you know,
that building, So just going in there and then being
an established guy was a little different. But I think
the mindset's got to be the same throughout.
Speaker 5 (22:53):
You know, Jaked always talk about the leap from your
rookie year to your second year, but you know, look,
today's game is different, and that you know just is
now your fourth offensive coordinator, head coach in four years.
So going into your second year, you get comfortable with
your organization, but it is also keeping edge that you
got a new offensive coordinator. And and how difficult is that?
(23:16):
I mean, is it a different language four years in
a row for you.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
You know, the language is different, but everybody's kind of
running the same thing. So you've got to get used
to the verbiage. Obviously, you've got to get used to
the staff and the coaches as well. But like you
said that, you know that adds another dynamic of all right,
I gotta go prove myself again. And and so that helps,
you know, keep that edge going into your into year two,
(23:45):
just trying to you know, grub phrase receivers coach, you know,
just just trying to prove myself to those guys, and
you know, to be honest with you, will try to
continue to do so throughout this year.
Speaker 3 (23:57):
Jack, I'm gonna let you win on on a side
that wholeefully you don't see for a long time. That's
the media side. We're all washed up in the press, boss,
watching you guys get after it, and uh, you know,
no denying. Obviously the first half wasn't what you guys
wanted when it came to the offense, and we're in
the press box and the Denver media, they're talking loud
and they're cheering and stuff in it, and it's so unprofessional.
(24:20):
So the second half comes around and you guys start
doing your thing and I say out a tone or
at a volume where they can hear me, I go,
y'all not laughing? Now, how are you? And no one
says anything you did?
Speaker 1 (24:31):
Well?
Speaker 3 (24:32):
What was your mentality going into that second half? Are
your team's mentality because obviously you guys have the talent
to get it done, but things just weren't clicking, Like,
what was the change for you guys?
Speaker 2 (24:41):
Yeah, you know, I think mindset wise, you just try
to reset going into the locker room and have time.
But I don't think there was ever a dip in confidence.
Like you said, we've got the guys in that room
in the locker room to make plays, and we just
had to find out what was gonna work. Cancer scheme
that's a good defense, and they definitely had the upper
(25:04):
hand in the first half. So now obviously you guys
saw in the third quarter we pivoted to more of
a downhill run scheme. And and you know, broke some
things open with that, So credit to coach g and
the off the staff for doing that. But then it
also helps knowing you have that defense behind you. It
takes a little bit of a pressure off, like, hey, look,
you know, even if we're not necessarily clicking, obviously we're
(25:26):
going to try to, uh to get to where we
want to be offensively as soon as possible. But you know,
you can you breathe a little bit easier knowing you
have a Mike McDonald defense behind you as well.
Speaker 5 (25:36):
What what because look, this is Grubb's first year in
the NFL as in OC. The first half obviously didn't
go well, but it wasn't like you guys played horrible.
It's really like four plays right, I mean interception but
should have been a penalty. They should have called hitting
below the knees there and then the two the two
backed up plays on the one yard line.
Speaker 4 (25:56):
What's he like when he got down there?
Speaker 3 (25:58):
Is he?
Speaker 4 (25:58):
Is he calm? Is there? Is there? Hey, here's what we're.
Speaker 5 (26:02):
Gonna make from an adjustment? What was actually said from
a just your your take on.
Speaker 2 (26:07):
That, Yeah, he's he's very steady, so you know you
see him in the locker room. And to be honest,
he's like that every day in practice. He's steady, but
coach he's got a little bit of an edge to him,
and it's not a loud edge, but you can kind
of see it in his eyes that he's locked in
and ready to go, you know, every day for practice.
(26:28):
So it was no different going into that locker room
at halftime, as you know, you see it in his
eyes and you have full confidence that he's gonna he's
gonna pivot uh to a scheme and get us running
something that's gonna work. So there was no you know,
there was no panic at all in that locker room,
this steady confidence, and I think the the offensive unit
(26:48):
as a whole kind of reflected uh Coach G's mindset
and his tone as well.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
Random question for you, Jake, do you like what do
he like? Twenty four or twenty three or something like that?
All right, so young enough, young enough. We're you know, Paul,
Paul and I on the postgame show pre you halftime,
a postgame show, and we're listening to interviews from Jim
Mueller and we hear some earth wind and fire in
(27:17):
the locker room. Who brought the old school playlist to
the locker room Listen.
Speaker 2 (27:22):
We got to keep that under wraps. But there is
a Yes, there's a clear leader on the off when
to come to postgame soon, that's for sure.
Speaker 3 (27:35):
Player or coach. Player or coach.
Speaker 2 (27:41):
First, and then it kind of pivots.
Speaker 5 (27:46):
All right, Okay McDonald seems a little bit like an
earth winding fire chills.
Speaker 4 (27:50):
That's kind of guy.
Speaker 5 (27:51):
You know, he's got he's got that old soul to him.
I don't know, I'm not Look, you already said you're
not going to divulge, but that I'm throwing out.
Speaker 3 (27:59):
We got to catch him off the record and ask him.
Speaker 5 (28:03):
Yeah, for sure, Hey, there was a there was a
play in the game that was pretty much the last
offensive play of the game. And there's been some great plays,
but Tyler Lockett over time and great throws tell us
in your eyes as a wide receiver. Because I read
a stat that the separation on that was point zero seven.
Speaker 4 (28:24):
I don't even know what that means. Obviously less than
a yard. I don't know what that means. I don't either.
Speaker 5 (28:28):
It means it was tight coverage and the window to
actually get that pass in and make the catch was
pretty small. What was the degree of difficulty? Can you
describe that catch?
Speaker 2 (28:41):
Yeah, well that is a typical Tyler Lockett. That is
a very difficult catch to make, and he made it
look easy. The underrated part that was the throw that
was an absolute dot by Gee and put it kind
of where Locke had no real choice but to catch it. Now,
(29:04):
to go ahead and make that catch is a is
another story. But yeah, man, great great throw, great catch,
and we needed it, so, you know, I wish I
could say I was surprised, But that's Tyler.
Speaker 3 (29:16):
Lockett, last one we got for you. Jake. I'm kind
of going off of that that play right there, because
when you watch the All twenty two and you slow
it down, DK flinch is at that defender and allows
Lockett to kind of get that point seven I guess
we're talking about.
Speaker 4 (29:32):
I thought he was going to get a penalty.
Speaker 3 (29:34):
Hey, he flinched. Was he to make that contact? Are
you guys coach to do that or is that just
DK being a big bully out there and saying I'm
going to get some separation on my own.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
So the mess route just kind of a man beater,
and you are taught kind of the the high mess,
the over mesh runner trying to get in the way
of not set a pick to get a get a
p but just kind of getting the way of the
guy and mak him feel you a little bit. And
I think he did that. You know, that's another underrated
(30:07):
aspect of that play is if he doesn't do that,
you know, twenty one is probably all over Tyler. Tyler's
back and DK make some flinch, makes him go underneath
and then great, great throwing catch. But you are taught
to do that. But again, if I saw fourteen coming
across the middle somebody else, I probably have my eyes
on him too.
Speaker 3 (30:28):
That's what's up. Man. If I saw nineteen as well,
you're not small yourself, so throw that shoulder at him
as well. Man. Hey, Jake Man, we appreciate you. We've
had you on the show a couple of times. You've
been on the Bump and Station show as well. Man,
we appreciate your time and good luck this weekend. Safe
flights to New England.
Speaker 5 (30:43):
Yeah, I have fun with your family. I got a
feeling you'll have quite a few of them at that game.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
Yeah, yeah, sure, yes, sir, I do. I appreciate you guys.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
All right, man, take care. I was Jake Bobbleman. He's
always he's always good, always here man, always man Man.
Speaker 5 (30:58):
I'd love to get I really wanted to ask him
kickoff return because he's he has so many good answers
to questions and just how difficult that is, particularly to learn.
I mean, it's just you are truly learning something you've
never done before, you know, in a game that you've
played your whole life.
Speaker 4 (31:14):
Well, that's pretty rare.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
He went to Duke and UCLA, so he's a sharp catch. Yeah,
you know, all right, make sure you get out to
Belvy Collection dining district. So many great restaurants to choose from.
Today we had our pre show meal at Sweet Restaurant
and Lounge. I had the chicken casadilla casada and also
I had the sliders what you have.
Speaker 5 (31:36):
I haven't eaten it yet. I got the seared AYI
but last year it's so good that I knew what
I wanted. So I'll be having a post game meal,
postgame meal, post radio meal.
Speaker 3 (31:46):
We also got Brenda something Brenna, she's she's eating it
right now. Actually I'm not sure what it was, but uh,
it sounds like it was a It was awesome.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
What was it?
Speaker 3 (31:55):
Black and chicken? Can't go wrong with that sweet.
Speaker 4 (31:58):
They treat us right, man.
Speaker 3 (31:59):
They do go to sweep. They take care of you. Man.
All right. When we come back, we'll go around the NFL.
That is next. Whare on Hawk's Live with Paul Moyer
on Michael Bumpas.
Speaker 1 (32:11):
Hawks Live presented by the Dining District at the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Square Center Court, live on air on
Seattle Sports.
Speaker 3 (32:21):
This is Hawks Live presented by the Dining District at
the Bellevue Collection of Michael Bumpas with my guy Paul Moyer.
Every Thursday. We will be right here on sevent ten
and Belvy Square Center Court. It is time to go
around the NFL. Now, I gotta make a confession. Our
on site engineer, her name is Brena Rogers. I work
(32:42):
with her husband and we did a segment today and
they asked us to predict what was going to happen
in Thursday night game. I go, Dolphins are going to
handle it, and her husband said, the Buffalo Bill's are
going to handle it. He's right, I'm wrong, and I'm
supposed to be the football guy. Man, what's going on?
Speaker 4 (32:59):
You know, whatever may once in a while and it's rare,
I mean extremely rare.
Speaker 5 (33:03):
An Arizona Wildcat gets something right. And obviously Curtis Rodgers,
who's a Wildcat, got this one right.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
They got it right.
Speaker 4 (33:11):
He probably won't get another thing right now. He's actually
really good at it this other than he went to universe.
Speaker 3 (33:16):
Here, well, here's the update for the game. It is
now let me refresh my screen. It is thirty one
to ten. Tua is out who has been knocked out
of the game. Prayers to him and his family. He's
already had a few major concussions and injuries. This is
the risk you take when you play football. You never
want to see someone go down like that. So before
(33:39):
he went out, he was sixteen to twenty five, one
hundred and forty five yards, one touchdown, three interception. Skyler
Thompson is now win. He's three for six for twenty
two yards. On the other side, Josh Allen is thirteen
of nineteen, one point thirty nine and one touchdown. Running
the rock, the Buffalo Bills have carried it twenty two
times for one hundred yards. Cook hast seventy eight yards
(33:59):
and two touches sounds. Josh Allen has two carries four two.
I didn't expect this. I thought the Dolphins had the
firepower they are at home, I believe. I thought they
were going to get it done. But there's something about
the Buffalo Bills that just allows them to be relevant
every single year. It's crazy.
Speaker 4 (34:16):
You know they got it.
Speaker 5 (34:17):
You know they have a reputation to be a good defense.
Josh Allen is gifted quarterback, and you know he can
he can hurt you. But I think how many interceptions
are two a throw to it?
Speaker 3 (34:29):
Three?
Speaker 5 (34:29):
Yeah, I mean there's there's the game. I mean, you
can't turn the ball for three times. I'm worried about him.
I had read or somebody.
Speaker 4 (34:35):
Texts said he was twitching, and really I just said, look, man,
he's had too many of them.
Speaker 5 (34:40):
It's been it's been a concern. Obviously. We'll see what
happens with Hopefully he comes back. If he doesn't, we're
gonna find out how good they're head coaches, because man,
it's hard to win with backup quarterbacks, it is. And
here's what I guarantee. Two ain't playing against us next weekends,
so I pray that he is healthy.
Speaker 4 (35:01):
To come back in two weeks, but not one week,
one week.
Speaker 3 (35:05):
No, aha, let Skyler take over, no.
Speaker 4 (35:06):
Matter of fact I have I'm already. I'm going to
say it right now. He's not allowed to play next week.
Speaker 3 (35:11):
He's not not with a concussion like that, especially when
it's his third or fourth. It changes things a little bit.
Your first one back in our day, Mary, Oh, you
got your bell rung? Huh, got bell and get back
out there?
Speaker 4 (35:22):
Bell rung a lot.
Speaker 3 (35:23):
I was.
Speaker 5 (35:24):
I was fortunate that the times I got knocked out,
they were always like a last game of the year,
last game of spring practice. So they always held me out.
And that's the important part. You You know, you've got
bleeded in that brain. You got a lot of heal
to have a shot. So but I was not a
guy who liked to leave with my head. I'd like
to leave my shoulder. There's the other guy, my son man.
(35:46):
He led with us head all the time. He used
to freak me out.
Speaker 3 (35:49):
They taught us to lead with our face masks. Yeah,
back when I was the ball, Yeah, it was crazy.
Times have changed. Let's look forward, you know, let's look back.
Let's look back to last week. So when you look
at last week. What games surprised you a little bit?
I know, for for a while the Arizona Cardinals were
hanging in there with the Buffalo Bills. I was really
surprised with that. And that's without getting Marvin Harrison involved,
(36:12):
the standout wide receiver who had some issues with what
fanatics and selling this jersey or whatnot. He only had
one reception. I think he had three or four targets.
But that game stood out to me because I kept
refreshing the score and checking it and couldn't believe what
I was seeing. The Buffalo Bills ended up winning thirty
four to twenty eight. That game stood out to me.
(36:33):
I think that allows you to believe that the Arizona
Cardinals are slowly turning the corner when it comes to
bouncing back from the Cliff Kingsbury era.
Speaker 5 (36:43):
Yeah, I mean I thought there. You know, I thought
the Steelers beating the Falcons. I thought the Falcons were
gonna have a pretty good offense. You know that that
had to be a huge disappointment with all the moves
that they had made in the offseason. The Cardinals looked great.
I mean I thought they were going to beat the
Bills and you know, Bill, as you mentioned great comeback.
I think one of the big surprises was the Titans
(37:04):
jump out seventeen to seventeen nothing against Chicago. And it
wasn't like Chicago looked good. I mean, none of the
rookie quarterbacks had good days. You know, they're I think
they're all going to struggle to an extent. You know,
I think bo Nick still, I think Denver has champs
to be pretty good. They're missing some firepower at wide receiver,
(37:24):
but I think their defense and offensive.
Speaker 4 (37:26):
Line are good that I thought. There's a lot of
them that.
Speaker 5 (37:29):
I mean, obviously, how about the Patriots going to Cincinnati
h and win an eight year sixteen to ten. Probably
the Texans and Colts. Know, you know Jaguars were leading.
Were they leading seventeen to nothing? So I would say
they were was leading. So Miami, you know they they're
going to lose today. You know they're they're mortal. You
(37:49):
know they're wounded.
Speaker 3 (37:50):
Now.
Speaker 5 (37:52):
You know the Saints blowing out I think it was
the only blowout in the NFL. Carolina is just a
bad football team. Giants continue to.
Speaker 4 (37:59):
Be who they are. I mean, they're terrible. So you know,
I think everything kind of looks the same. How about
the Cowboys going at Cleveland and putting up over thirty
points on the number one defense last year? Maybe they're
number two bal Baltimore and Cleveland number one and two.
So a lot of surprises. And that's the thing. It's
in the NFL.
Speaker 5 (38:18):
It's just not college where you can go recruit you
know thirty, you know five star players and dominate. There's
always turnover, there's free agency. You don't know what you're
gonna get until about the second or third week of
the season, right, and then start shaking.
Speaker 4 (38:33):
This thing out. That's why they don't have rankings in
the NFL.
Speaker 3 (38:37):
Wait till the playoff you get seated.
Speaker 4 (38:39):
Yes, And that's why I hate when college ranks them
ahead of time ago. Why are you going to rank
this now you both win.
Speaker 3 (38:46):
I'm with you.
Speaker 4 (38:47):
I can't delete frog Y because you didn't lose yet.
Speaker 5 (38:50):
Yeah, or Auburn lost to cow and there still looks
like they're ahead of cow the way they do the thing.
Northern Illinois is ahead of Notre Dame. Why they went
to Notre Dame and beat him because Notre Dame was
ranked fifth.
Speaker 3 (39:05):
And they got that bag to one point four million
for beating them too. Yeah, that's a great trick. That's
a great all right, let's look forward to the next week.
All right, This week, there's some matchups that I'm looking at.
Obviously we're gonna watch the New England in the Seattle game.
But now I'm looking at the Rams in Arizona because
the Rams lose a close one in overtime. Arizona loses
(39:26):
a close one to the Buffalo Bills. Both these teams
have an opportunity to kind of solidify and not solidify themselves,
but kind of show who they really are in week two.
You really don't know what team until week four or
five in my opinion, but either way it goes. The
Hawks are gonna get an advantage here if they are
able to win their ball game. I'm looking at also
(39:47):
Pittsburgh at Denver. Justin Fields is a starter in Pittsburgh,
didn't produce one touchdown, six field goals. Russell Wilson he
got his calf. Has heard we call that to thirty.
Once you touched like thirty thirty years of age, your
body starts to change a little bit.
Speaker 5 (40:07):
Let's see when things start breaking down, the others compensate.
Here's I'll say two games. I'm looking forward to Saints
at Cowboys because Saints looked really good. Cowboys looked good.
We'll see if one of those is pretender. And then
the Buccaneers at the Lions. Buccaneers look really good. Lions,
you know, seem to be legit and probably the biggest one.
I'm looking forward to Seahawks at New England.
Speaker 3 (40:30):
There we go, all right, Well we're gonna ask somebody
about the matchup this weekend, Seahawks at New England. His
name a J. Barner. He's gonna be here live and
in person. That is next right here on Hawks Live.
Speaker 1 (40:45):
Hawks Live presented by the Dining District at the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Squares Center Court, every Thursday from seven
to nine, live on air on Seattle Sports.
Speaker 2 (40:56):
No.
Speaker 1 (40:56):
If you're your hosts Michael Bumpis.
Speaker 3 (40:58):
And Paul Moyer, you are listening to Hawk's Live presented
by the Dining District at the Bellevue Collection of Michael
Bumpus with Paul Moyer. And now we are joined by
the tight End eight eight AJ Barneman. AJ, how you doing,
man good?
Speaker 6 (41:12):
Appreciate you guys having me on here.
Speaker 3 (41:13):
Man, thanks for taking your time. It's always we always
appreciate it. Because it's a Thursday. You have practice today.
You got a lot of stuff going on. Paul and
I used to play, so we understand like time is money,
so we appreciate you coming out here. Man. Sure you
had your first experience in the league, like you played
in some big games. Man, Yeah, played at Indiana, played
at Michigan. You're used to the crowd and all the
(41:35):
noise and stuff. Man, what was your first experience?
Speaker 6 (41:37):
Like, I feel like that helped, Like playing at Michigan
and playing in the Big Ten, just being in the
National Championship.
Speaker 3 (41:43):
I felt like that helped a lot.
Speaker 6 (41:44):
And then also the preseason games too, you know, playing
in three of those, but you know it's different, just
the competition is different. But I felt comfortable out there,
and I think, you know, it's just another challenge this
week too.
Speaker 3 (41:56):
So I'm trying to get better every week.
Speaker 5 (41:58):
We just had Jake bow we'll call in and you know,
he was the guy who said Duke and U c
l A. And then he comes here and it's his
fourth head coach, fourth offensive coordinator.
Speaker 4 (42:08):
Now that's kind of becoming the norm.
Speaker 5 (42:09):
You know, you're at Indiana, you go to Michigan, you know,
talk about that you end up at Indiana. I kind
of understand why you go to Michigan, but but just
tell us how that all went about.
Speaker 6 (42:22):
So, I mean, I was at Indiana for three years
and just felt like, you know, there's I played with
two different offensive coordinators, and then going into my senior year,
I felt like, you know, as an athlete, you know,
you don't you only have you know what your eligibility is.
So the transfer portal entered into there ended up going
to Michigan. I mean, so, but like I feel like,
(42:44):
like you mentioned with Bubba, with the four different coaches,
for me, like coming to Seattle's a blessing because I
was at Indiana, made connections with you know, the coaches
there who ended up going to Washington and with Grubb
and then ended up going to Michigan, you know, going
to Michigan, and then I come here and coach Mike
McDonald's at Michigan. So I think just having like both
those things together. I don't know if there's any other
(43:04):
organizations organization in the league that you know that would
have happened for me.
Speaker 3 (43:08):
So when did you make the transition to tight ends.
Tight Ends are interesting. Yeah, you were either like a
tight end who moved to tackle, or like a linebacker
or a receiver who grew and they moved you to
a tight end. That's what it was. I was a linebackers.
I was a linebacker for most of.
Speaker 6 (43:23):
My life, played quarterback two. It wasn't very good at
quarterback at all, But then at like my junior year,
that's when I switched to tight end, but also played linebacker.
At my high school mostly everyone played both ways.
Speaker 4 (43:35):
Yeah, well, and a good linebacker too. You're Northeast Ohio.
Speaker 5 (43:39):
I'm reading your Wikipedia page here, Defensive player of the Year.
Speaker 4 (43:43):
Did you I mean, do you want to stay at
linebacker or just.
Speaker 6 (43:46):
I mean, yeah, part of me did for sure, But
I just felt like with my size being six six,
like and I'm not the fastest guy in the world,
Like I feel like, you know, you just know your
mold for like what a linebacker is and what a
tight end is. So the transition was good. But I
think like I have a wrestling background too. I wrestled
for a long time in my life, so just the
defensive side of the ball, I feel like in wrestling
has helped me become.
Speaker 3 (44:07):
A tight end. Not the fastest, but I watched the
film and you're smooth man. Yeah, and you have soft
hand for sure. Were you a baseball player where you're home?
Speaker 6 (44:17):
I played baseball, I mean I played really all the sports, like,
but I like I played baseball, I played rec basketball.
But yeah, I do think that part of my game, Like, yeah,
I'm not I might not be the fastest straight line,
but I do feel like I find zone coverages very well.
And then like you said, smooth, like I'm gonna get open.
I feel like, like you said, soft hands.
Speaker 5 (44:34):
So their watch a bunch of you at Michigan and
then this last game, and you definitely have a I
don't want to say it's a nasty st guy.
Speaker 4 (44:44):
Sometimes it means like you're dirty. You're not.
Speaker 5 (44:45):
You're just you're relentless at getting in somebody's face staying
on them.
Speaker 4 (44:50):
Yeah, where's that come from? Brothers?
Speaker 6 (44:53):
Really, I just played hard, and I mean playing at
Michigan too, and like and also just being in my
first game and just having that opportunity, you know, like
you want to like they should have no reason like
to take you out kind of type thing. So and
honestly to the crowd noise, Like you can't even hear
a whistle. So for me, it's like play whistle whistle.
That's what I was doing. And if it rubbed somebody
the wrong way, then so be it. But like I'm
not gonna get embarrassed by you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 5 (45:16):
So I got to ask about the crowd noise. We're
pretty proud up here the twelve and what loom and
Field can do. Look, you pack over one hundred thousand
in Michigan. Yeah, can you want to compare that noise?
Speaker 4 (45:29):
I mean I haven't.
Speaker 6 (45:31):
I mean, I've played in Michigan in the game and
then obviously this is week one and it was probably
just as loud, so I'm sure like for a big
game it'll be even louder. But you know, Michigan, the
stadium is built out and then loom and You have
that overhang, so I think it makes it that much louder.
Speaker 3 (45:45):
But it was definitely really loud in there. For sure.
I had allowed to see him. I've been at the
opportunity to meet your mom and dad. It was during
training camp, and uh, you know, I just making connections
and talking to them and your dad seems like just
intense but also welcoming at the same Oh yeah, man,
(46:06):
what was it. What was it like with your dad?
Because I wanted to talk to him for an hour
if I could, but I had to get back to work,
and I was all right. I always tried to look
at the parents and then make the connection with their kids.
What do you think you got from your dad?
Speaker 6 (46:18):
Yeah, definitely that intensity was just being respectful. I grew
up with three sisters, so like just you know, defending
your sisters and everything like that. So I think my
parents are great. My mom's a go' so I said
that the one thing. She always takes care of me
whatever I need. But yeah, I can't stress enough how
much they've done for me and just great people. Are
they athletes too?
Speaker 3 (46:38):
My dad was.
Speaker 6 (46:39):
My mom was too, not in college, but like, my
mom's a good athlete. When I was growing up, if
my dad couldn't she throw me the ball around in
the yard.
Speaker 3 (46:46):
So yeah, that's what's up.
Speaker 5 (46:47):
I got a twin sister, an older sister. They used
to beat me up and they kind of honestly, I mean,
they competed with him athletically all the time.
Speaker 4 (46:56):
You got three sisters, right, what was that like growing up.
Speaker 6 (47:00):
I mean, like I said, you just gotta, like, you know,
make sure that you're you know, defending your sisters, I guess,
and just like you know, I feel like in the
car I said it recently, like you're watching more so
girl movies than a boy movie and you just gotta
deal with it.
Speaker 3 (47:16):
Rom coms all day.
Speaker 4 (47:17):
Yeah huh.
Speaker 3 (47:18):
But so your first game, I'm not big enough to
be a tight end, believe it or not, out Aja,
I played on the outside and that's such a different game.
And as a tight end, you get moved to the outside,
get moved to the inside, You're attaching line of scrimmage,
you're blocking linebackers, sometimes you got you got safeties. What
(47:41):
is it about a tight end that allows you to
be just so versatile?
Speaker 7 (47:44):
Man Like?
Speaker 3 (47:44):
Is that is that something that you've had to learn
or you think that's something that you kind of had
in you because of all the sports that you played
as well.
Speaker 6 (47:51):
I think that's what I love about the position and
just a game of football that you really have to
reinvent yourself every Sunday. And like you said, being are
still being able to pass protech, being able to run, block,
being able to you know, play on special teams. Catch
the ball is what really makes tight end fun. And
that's just something that I'd love to do and love
to get better at.
Speaker 5 (48:11):
So, yeah, we're visiting with AJ Barner or tied in
for the Seahawks, and you came from a you know,
Jim Harbach, you know, pretty good pass in the running game,
really good coach. I would even say, a good technician.
What do they teach at Michigan or here in Seattle
that might be different that you could compare, that might
be different just and just blocking?
Speaker 4 (48:33):
Is it technique? Is it maybe stop?
Speaker 6 (48:35):
I think first of all, like in college, especially in springball,
like you just hit way more, you know, like fall
camp obviously here is like you know, tough in college,
like at Michigan, like inside run drill every day we'd
have beat Ohio drill like nine on seven. So I
think that and just like the tenasty of it and
just the run schemes that we ran to I feel
like the coaches put us in a good position to succeed,
(48:57):
always had us prepared, and that's just what we take
what we take pride in there.
Speaker 3 (49:02):
What's it like being a being a pro man Because
at Michigan. You're a student athlete. You got to show up,
do your lab, make sure your homework is good. Is
it a relief? And this is something my guy Paul
usually asked these guys. We've been doing this for what
five six years now, and the transition has to be crazy.
I remember when I made the transition. I go, I
get to wake up and just do football. Like what
(49:23):
was that like for you?
Speaker 6 (49:24):
It's been a lot of fun, and you know, just
trying to take advantage of it. And then also to
just like pick the vet's mind, Like I'm lucky enough
to have Lockett as my locker right next to me,
So somebody that played in the league for that long,
asking what he's doing outside of the facility to take
care of his body, what he's doing inside the facility
to prepare and like you said, you have more time
than when you were a student athlete. So just making
(49:44):
sure that I'm using it wisely and asking the vets
to help advise me on that.
Speaker 4 (49:48):
When you're at Michigan, do you have all the resources
to see hawks? App? I mean, is it's sports science? Nutrition?
Your own shakes come over here?
Speaker 3 (49:56):
AJ?
Speaker 4 (49:57):
Okay, Well, this is how you recover when you guys
come off to each one and you have your name
when you come off the field. What to drink?
Speaker 6 (50:04):
I would honestly just say just as much, like it's
almost in that regards the same. You know, they have
food there for you pretty much all the time and whatnot.
So I would say yeah, But honestly, the college the
college facilities too, just based on recruiting, you know, I
think they kind of are better than the NFL facilities,
but they have everything you need in both spots.
Speaker 3 (50:21):
For sure. When I was coming up, Twitter was just
getting popping when I was in the league. You guys
are a different breed now, like you grew up with
social media and guys and the people watching you at
all times. How where are you of that? And how
does the NFL or the Seahawks kind of help you
work through that?
Speaker 6 (50:42):
I would say pretty pretty aware, Like I really don't
I don't have Twitter on my phone, to be honest,
and then I forget yeah, and I have like you know,
limits on my abs. But obviously you can use social
media too to like as a business platform and to
promote yourself and whatnot. So it's definitely a balance too,
because you know, you can't. Can't drink the kool aid.
You can't. You know what I'm saying, Like, when you
(51:02):
have a good game, you can't just be all focused
on like what I did and whatnot, because you know
you got another one coming up.
Speaker 3 (51:08):
So I try not to.
Speaker 6 (51:09):
I try to stay off there honestly as much as
I can, but also to you know, use it to
connect with even my friends, stay in touch with those people. So,
like you said, I'm from Ohio. You know some of
my people keep up with me back home based on
social media. So it's definitely a bounce.
Speaker 5 (51:23):
All right, Parents and kids, listen, did you hear that
he puts limits on social media? We need to all right,
you've been out here in Chatty, came from Ohio, Indiana, Michigan.
What do you like to do away from football? And
if you've been able to do that up here?
Speaker 6 (51:38):
Honestly, just really like I like to take care of
my body, make sure I'm staying on top of my stuff.
I went down to LA and the off season was
working out down there and just get outside, get outside,
do stuff and then also just relax, hang with family.
Speaker 3 (51:51):
I keep it simple.
Speaker 6 (51:52):
Man gets to better the good time.
Speaker 4 (51:53):
Yeah, playball football.
Speaker 6 (51:55):
Yeah, especially this time too, and going honestly, your rookie
yar too, Like you played in the National Championship. You
get ready for the combine. You know, you come, you
come here for tas, you get a little break and
then you're right back to it. So that's what it
really would it's been recently. Yeah, you plan on keeping it,
well said. People don't realize me. You've already played three
preseason game, regular season game. You're already almost halfway through
(52:16):
your college season.
Speaker 5 (52:18):
And here you're just through your first regular season. So
taking care of your body for sure. Getting relaxed. Man,
it's easy to get pulled. The twelves are crazy out here.
I mean, you're gonna find that out there. They're gonna
love you.
Speaker 4 (52:29):
So, sir, it's a lot of fun.
Speaker 3 (52:31):
Well you just wait a couple of months. Man, it's
gonna get dark at four thirty old knock out real quick. Hey,
give her one more time for a tight end a
J barner. All right, when we come back, we'll go
inside the film where we're gonna break down some plays.
That is next right here on Hawk's Line.
Speaker 1 (52:48):
Hawks Fly presented by the Dining District at the Bellepe
Collection at Bellevue Square Center Court live on air on
Seattle Sports.
Speaker 3 (52:59):
Welcome back to Slave of Michael Bumpus with my guy
Paul Moyer, every Thursday right here on sevent ten, presenting
live from Bellvy Square Center Court. Man, if we just
interviewed AJ Barner, I got a good feeling about Aj.
I have a good feeling about Aj Moyer. I think
it's gonna be good for him. But now it's time
for us to do what Paul and I love to do.
(53:20):
My man texts me at like twelve thirty. Sometimes my
phone goes off, ping, ping. The wife is like, who
the heck is texting you at twelve thirty, and I go,
it's Paul Moyer. He's been watching some film. He's got
some ideas and he's like me, like, if I don't
send it now, I'm gonna forget it. If I don't
write it down, I'm gonna forget it. So he's always
(53:40):
ready for us. Man. So we got three plays that
we are going to break down. This first one, ken
Walker got the party started in the second half. The
first half was rough for this offense. You start with
a sack, an interception, a false start, you got twenty
four plays to Broncos forty four. It was all bad
in the second half. They say, you know we're gonna
switch some things up. Start with the run. This is
(54:01):
Ken Walker's twenty three yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Speaker 7 (54:04):
Well three receivers, including JSN on the left side, but
JSN is just winged off the tackle outside. Walker's gonna
run it again. JSN throws the block, Walker turns up field,
be gut in touchdown.
Speaker 3 (54:18):
Seahawks.
Speaker 7 (54:20):
Check in the dictionary under answer, and that's what the
Seahawks offense just did right down the field to start
the second half. Ryan Grub said, we want to run
the football.
Speaker 3 (54:31):
By golly, they did.
Speaker 7 (54:32):
Walker from twenty three outs puts it in on the
Seahawks go back on top fifteen thirteen.
Speaker 3 (54:39):
This is the play that needed to happen. Walker starts
off in the shotgun positions to the right of Genome.
Geno motions him over to the left side. You get
your left guard to pull, your center blocks down, you
get your right guard to pull take care of the end,
and then you're guarding your Assume your tackle gets up
to that second level and the tackle misses the play.
(55:00):
He misses it. But ken Walker is so strong and
so explosive. He bounces to the outside and scores a touchdown,
and then he puts some sauce on this. He dove
from like the four yard line. He didn't even need
to do that, but he did that because he's young
and explosive, and it made my knees hurt just watching
him do it.
Speaker 4 (55:16):
I just love this play man. You pull on both
guards to the same side. And what do you call that?
Speaker 3 (55:22):
Is that I'm trying to figure out because power, the
left guard pulling makes it a trap, the right guard
pulling it makes it something else. I don't know. We'll see.
Speaker 5 (55:32):
I'm drawing a blank on what we used to call it.
Speaker 4 (55:36):
We call it it's not an ot power. I can't anyway.
Speaker 5 (55:39):
It's a power concept, but I can't remember it. But
everybody gets their guy but one uh. And that's okay
because Canine is that kind of guy who will make
one guy miss. Everybody's got this is a beautiful play.
Bradford knocks the crap out of the outside linebacker on
the line who he pulls to his side, to his right.
Speaker 1 (56:00):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (56:00):
And then we bring draw bike Oh Tomlinson to the
other side, so really good block and I'm just going
to say that right now. But you're right.
Speaker 5 (56:09):
One of our tackles comes and it's not that he
necessarily misses. And this is hard because you got a
tackle who's four yards downfield and he's trying to screen
the middle linebacker and a little my linebacker kind of
oki oaks some and goes over the top.
Speaker 4 (56:23):
But he does miss him.
Speaker 5 (56:24):
He doesn't touch him, and Canine gives him just a
little limp leg like I'm gonna give it to you,
and then he pulls it away and so but and
this is where Canine's so special. Not only does he
do that, but now he gets up to top speed
right from the get go, and he gets to the
corner of the sideline, makes another guy miss and he dies.
And I wish he didn't die because that takes away energy.
(56:45):
And is this where he kind of tweaked his stomach?
Speaker 3 (56:49):
That's tough. Maybe it was. I want to say, I
hope this wasn't it. I can see where that was.
Speaker 4 (56:55):
I'm not gonna make it.
Speaker 3 (56:56):
Maybe I don't know.
Speaker 5 (56:58):
I'm not gonna because it was a cool play, great
run though, and I'm hoping he plays this week, because
those are the kind of things he can do if it's.
Speaker 4 (57:05):
Not block perfect. But that was about ninety eight percent
block perfect.
Speaker 3 (57:08):
Right, awesome? All right? This next play, Geno Smith finds
Zach Charbonay for the thirty four a thirty yard touchdown
to start the fourth You're.
Speaker 4 (57:17):
Gino on a first down and ten stepping up in
the pocket, looks.
Speaker 7 (57:20):
Throw down field wide open, touchdown Seahawks. Zach Charbonay wheels
out of the backfield and nobody saw him except us
thirty yards for the touchdown and the Seahawks stretch their
lead to twenty five to thirteen.
Speaker 3 (57:39):
What did you see, moyre Well.
Speaker 4 (57:40):
I think it's a really well designed play. I think so.
Speaker 5 (57:43):
So you know, we line up two wide receivers to
our left and they they we got a tight, tight
formation to our right, and then they got Scharbona who's
off set to our right in the back foone, we're
a gun and they run a wheel rat, which means
the bat comes out of the backfield and works his
way down the sideline. It's a design play to clear
(58:04):
out the corner and the safety to work one on
one and make the linebacker have to run with Sharbone.
I think they blow coverage because you've got the corner
on that side, you have the safety on that side,
and you have the backside safety looking for it as well.
So somebody probably should have come off that and helped
(58:24):
with the wheel route and called off the linebacker. That's
fine they didn't. But what sells this play also, and
this is why hustle and desire and everything is so important.
JSN has lined up to our left in the slot.
He runs a crossing route and because of that crossing route,
the linebacker who's starting to run with Sharbone on the
(58:44):
wheel route sees it and he thinks that Gino may
throw it to him, and he kind of pulls off
and Gino doesn't throw it to him. He throws to Charbona.
So really well designed play. Probably a little bit of
a bus there, yep.
Speaker 4 (58:59):
And again as Tyler Lockett, you know all those the
routes they run, Sharbonnet, the speed he had to make
this thing happen, so really cool play.
Speaker 3 (59:09):
I love everything that you just describe, Moyer. I'm with
you one hundred percent. The one thing I would add
is I think the corner lost responsibility. He sees that
single receiver does not acknowledge the back he's supposed In
my opinion, I think he's supposed to carry that receiver
into his help and then peel off with the wheel
(59:29):
and his eyes just fool him for some reason. And
good job by Gino by just reading that corner and
saying okay, because say that corner where to get depth,
He's probably gonna throw that shall out to JSN that
you were talking about. So when Grubb got the job,
the one thing or I saw a lot of things,
but something that stuck out to me is the way
that he dressed up mesh. And this is just mesh
(59:51):
right here. He uses mesh where the back just swings.
Mesh is when a receiver to the right and to
the left cross each other around five to six shards
and put the linebackers in a buying The mesh is
also would win the game for the Seahawks late when
Tyler Lockett caught that one hander, he'll run the mesh concept.
DK flinches at the guy, allows it to get some separation.
(01:00:13):
Grub loves the mesh. He'll dress it up differently and
he'll do things different with that running back, which it
kind of pinks the picture for Gina, and I think
that's what I saw there.
Speaker 4 (01:00:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:00:23):
They also drop a defensive lineman who starts to run
with charbone.
Speaker 3 (01:00:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:00:27):
And again I'm just wondering if they kind of knew
what play was coming.
Speaker 5 (01:00:31):
Huh, you know, and he designed for this defense when
they get down here in the thirty yard line. I
don't know when we get grub on the show next,
we'll ask him.
Speaker 3 (01:00:40):
We'll get grub. Yeah, all right, this last one man
Reek Woolen intercepts vo Nick's late in the fourth quarter, tight.
Speaker 7 (01:00:48):
Slot left side on second down and ten a fake toss.
Speaker 3 (01:00:52):
Mix, rolls to the right, throws back in the.
Speaker 7 (01:00:54):
Middle, later accept it and a three woman who steps
right in front of the receiver Portland sudden.
Speaker 3 (01:01:01):
I don't think bow Knicks ever saw him. He rolls
out to the right, he throws a.
Speaker 7 (01:01:06):
Dark and there were nothing but blue jerseys and one
receiver there. Woollen comes down with a second pick of
the game for the man se down.
Speaker 5 (01:01:16):
So many good things on this Well, first of all,
I'm going to talk about Derek Hall. He's playing left
outside linebacker for us. They run kind of a fake
toss and then what I call uh, it's a bootleg
for me, and a bootleg means the quarterback wheels or
rolls out away from where the running back goes. It's
we used to call it a waggle if he rolls
(01:01:38):
out the same side as the running back. But this
is a bootleg trying to deceive, you know, some of
the linebackers. But Derek Hall starts to come inside and
he gets pinned by the tight end. He sees it
and he immediately works back outside so that bo Nicks
can't keep getting towards the sideline. Bow Nicks had to
pull up on this throw. It's still this is a
(01:01:59):
really hard play. Now, we got beat so much on
this play last year and.
Speaker 4 (01:02:04):
The year before and the year before and the year
before and the year before that, and the two years
before that and the year before that.
Speaker 5 (01:02:10):
Basically it was the weakness of our defense these deep
crossing routes. First of all, Julian Love is playing, and
no it's only one game, but my goodness, is he
playing well. He would have got another interception on this too.
But we're going to talk about Wollen on us play.
Because woman is playing outside technique. The wide receivers in
tight probably about three yards from maybe five yards from
(01:02:33):
the offensive tackle and he's running a crossing route. Man,
from a geometry standpoint, you should not be able to
make this play as a human being because the wide
receivers three four yards in front of you.
Speaker 4 (01:02:48):
Crossing route.
Speaker 5 (01:02:49):
You've got to close the distance as well vertically as
well as horizontally. And Wolan's so fast so long that
he makes us play. And for those of Mike McDonald
has talked about this play a bunch, it's a spectacular play,
but there's three or four people that play this great.
Speaker 4 (01:03:05):
Dotson plays great because he holds it off.
Speaker 5 (01:03:08):
He's holding off. He sees his guy, but he's still
he's also sees across the rest. He's just holding. He's
just kind of I'm in the way. You can't throw
this right now, which allows Woland to catch up and
make this play.
Speaker 4 (01:03:19):
And again, what a great break by Julian Love as well.
I mean he would have an interception. Also.
Speaker 3 (01:03:26):
This is just one of those plays where I tell
my son sometimes and I go, yeah, that's just God
right there. God blessed that young man with something that
we just don't have. That's what rig Willing does because
as a receiver, I'm running across the field. I feel
him there, but I feel that also. Just let the
ball go. I'm gonna go and make a play. But
(01:03:47):
you got an avatar chasing you that's six ' three
who runs a four to three and can just close
it on the football the way that he did. Goodness
Grace's genetics. Bless that man to Rik wille on that one.
Speaker 4 (01:03:57):
So so there's another part too.
Speaker 5 (01:04:00):
So they run a post from the slot as well,
so they've got a that's not a slot the outside receiver.
They run a post and then he ends up running
a deep, a deep crossing route because of it. We
play this two different ways in this game. On this one,
Trey Brown stays with it and then the backside safety
(01:04:20):
Jenkins picks it up. Julian Love was on the play side.
Normally he would have picked played that and Drey Brown
would have came off. So we play a route that
happens all the time, two different ways. As a offensive coordinator, man,
you got problems.
Speaker 3 (01:04:38):
You know what they got. They played that so well,
you know what they got, same thing we got. What chemistry?
That's that defense? Baby. Okay, when we come back, it's
time to top that talk. We're gonna pick up like
three or four topics. More is gonna tell me I'm wrong.
I'm gonna agree with him like I do with my
wife every day, but in reality, I'm gonna think I'm right.
That is next right here on Hawk's litt.
Speaker 1 (01:05:03):
It's time to Talk that Talk with Michael Bumpis and
Paul Moyer on Hawks Live.
Speaker 3 (01:05:10):
Welcome back to Hawks Live. It is now time for
talk that talk. Man. This is where we pick a
couple of ideas.
Speaker 4 (01:05:20):
You know, ding ding ding we have.
Speaker 3 (01:05:23):
I think we got music right now like James Brown
and James Brown was it was Rihanna. Honestly, you know
James Browns when.
Speaker 4 (01:05:32):
We used to have the professor on, Yeah, you're right, okay.
Speaker 3 (01:05:34):
Get the professor. Rest in peace, John Clayton, I love
you man. All right, time for talk that talk. We're
gonna pick out some topics and lawyer is gonna make
his case for a true or false. I'll make my
case for true or false. And then we allowed you
guys to decide, all one thousand of you to decide
who the winner is with this, and like.
Speaker 4 (01:05:54):
A good partner that you are, you're gonna make me
feel like I want.
Speaker 3 (01:05:57):
I always always like, all right, first one, here we go.
I got the first one more right. The Seahawks' defensive
performance was not only was not a fluke, but chapter
one of a top five defense. There's six overall.
Speaker 5 (01:06:10):
Right now, Well, I liked what I saw, and you
saw me I did. I wrote a really long text
to these guys. Normally I don't get a response. He
ensues it like a heart or thumbs up, no comment
back and the FA. But no, but your comment was
so good. He was very excited about my comment.
Speaker 4 (01:06:33):
But I was, man. I literally had goosebumps watching the film.
I mean, I can't believe how good they are.
Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
I don't you know.
Speaker 5 (01:06:40):
Again, I would say, statistics are hard because so much
depends on who you play and fourth quarters mop up,
dudeything like I'm telling you right now, we'll play like
the top five defense.
Speaker 4 (01:06:50):
We'll play like it. We're complete team. I think we
will get pressure this week.
Speaker 5 (01:06:55):
I'm curious, can we stop the run consistently when someone
says I'm going to run the football, yeah, that'll be.
But I felt like we did that in crunch time
last night. I'm gonna say, oh, man, I'm gonna say yeah, right,
I think we got to coach for it. I think
we got the desire for it, and I think the
upgrades that we brought in this year, the two safeties
(01:07:15):
are two linebackers, and getting Murphy in the draft, we
are a top five.
Speaker 3 (01:07:21):
Defense right now. They're number six. Well they end the
top five. I have three kids. One is fourteen, one
is twelve, one is ten, and I'm hard on my
fourteen year old man. He has a good game, I
go approve it. Next week he has another good game,
I go, I need three days. He has another good game,
(01:07:41):
I go, is this you or is this something that
is gonna show up every now and then? And I
think that's how I feel about the defense right now.
Just like my son. I believe he can stack the days,
stack the weeks, but I want to motivate him and
make sure he doesn't get comfortable. That's the way I'm
looking at this team right now. I go, all right, yeah,
one week down, you played a rookie quarterback. All right,
(01:08:02):
next week you're playing the veteran quarterback who's typically a backup.
He started forty nine out of eighty games at Jacoby Brisse.
You need to show me a month of good football
before I tap in and say, yes, this is a
top five defense. They have top five potential in my opinion,
but right now, no, I'm keeping them hungry like my son,
(01:08:22):
Michael pumps go to sleep, Michael, why are you listening
to this right now? That's how I'm treating these guys
like my fourteen year old. I'm gonna keep them hungry
and say no, not yet, give me, show me some more.
Speaker 4 (01:08:32):
I didn't say, hey, by week eight, can you let
me know if they're a top five.
Speaker 3 (01:08:38):
Defense right now? So no, right now, no, I say no.
Speaker 4 (01:08:41):
You don't think there'll be a top five defense right now?
Speaker 3 (01:08:44):
I say no, right now.
Speaker 4 (01:08:45):
No, I don't think what I've seen after one week
that they'll be after one week.
Speaker 3 (01:08:50):
After one week, I don't believe anything after one week,
I'm encouraged, but to believe, no, I don't believe in anything.
I'm encouraged though.
Speaker 4 (01:08:59):
I'm just checking all that's good.
Speaker 5 (01:09:01):
So we disagree there, and actually I didn't feel like
it made me feel like I was right on there.
Look so again, part of my text was I was
watching Dotson and I said, my god, this guy's Pro Bowl.
He's Pro Bowl the way he's playing I mean he's relentless,
it's that fast, it's that it's that good man.
Speaker 4 (01:09:19):
I'm not I'm not blowing smoke.
Speaker 5 (01:09:20):
You guys know I get excited, but this I'm excited about.
And I said, well, I go, Julian Love played the
best game I've seen him play. I mean it was
at a whole nother It's the best I've seen a
safety play since when Earl was at his heyday. I mean,
that's how good he was. Relentless and fast. And then
I said well, I said, well, wher'spoon. I said, wheerspoon man.
Speaker 4 (01:09:42):
That guy that's the pro bowler right there. And I said, well, Wooling.
Speaker 5 (01:09:45):
The way he was covering and by the way their
scores how they ranked him are warning Again, I think
we got Mathey. If you keep giving him some opportunities,
is going to cast some boat. So here's my question.
There's so many good guys on this team right now.
This he actually have at least and this is hard
to do. This ain't Pro Bowl, this is all pro.
This is the best at your position. We'll have at
(01:10:07):
least one All Pro in the first or make it
easier or second team on this defense.
Speaker 3 (01:10:13):
By season out all right, So we're clearly leaning on
the defense right now. Just well we are, I mean
going off the first.
Speaker 4 (01:10:20):
Week, well crossing there too.
Speaker 3 (01:10:23):
So this team, this team to have one All Pro
All Pro. Look, well, I'm just gonna lean on the
defense because they're the ones who performed the best. But
to your credit, Charles Cross balled out Sodi Connor Williams.
I think they both played well. But I'm looking at
the defense. I'm looking at Jay Love, I'm looking at Jenkins, Jenkins,
I'm looking at and please Trey Brown's not in the conversation,
(01:10:46):
but he's going to be so solid for this football team.
I'm looking at even cat Kat could have himself a year.
He was here half a year last year. And the
way he talked about Seattle, he loves Seattle. Man. I
heard him speak to I don't know who it was
on TV and he loves Seattle. I'm gonna say, yeah,
I think this is the year.
Speaker 7 (01:11:04):
Once.
Speaker 3 (01:11:05):
The last time they had All Pro had to be
Bobby two years back.
Speaker 4 (01:11:08):
Look and again, yeah again, there was a time when
Bobby made All Pro. He was All Pro. He was
the best at what he did. Last couple of times
he was not the best at what he did. Yeah,
we have look Charles Cross.
Speaker 5 (01:11:22):
If he plays the way he played in that first
game all season, he will make He'll make the Pro Bowl,
He'll make the Pro Bowl.
Speaker 4 (01:11:29):
All pros man. It's just so tough.
Speaker 5 (01:11:30):
I mean, he got Trent Williams just his name. It's
gonna be hard to unseat him. I think we're gonna
get one. But I will say this, I think we're
gonna get five or six Pro Bowlers.
Speaker 3 (01:11:42):
Oh, I'm about to say all Pro now I'm talking
about the greatest defensive all time.
Speaker 5 (01:11:45):
No, but I think we could have three secondary guys.
I think Jenkins is gonna be in the mix. I think,
you know again, Dotson's gonna be in there. You know,
we'll see who gets some sacks if they get it.
But I think I think Charles Cross will walking away. Okay,
last one real quick?
Speaker 3 (01:12:00):
All right?
Speaker 4 (01:12:00):
Or are we done?
Speaker 3 (01:12:02):
We got time for one?
Speaker 5 (01:12:04):
Charles Cross makes well, No for your dan, I don't
forget that. How about this more impressive jump from twenty
three to twenty four this year?
Speaker 4 (01:12:12):
The overall defense or Charles Cross, He's.
Speaker 3 (01:12:14):
The overall defense. Charles Cross show promise his rookie season.
He's gonna be fine. This defense has not been up
to par for five six years.
Speaker 4 (01:12:23):
I was disappointed in Charles last year. I don't know
what got into him.
Speaker 5 (01:12:27):
You guys, he looks like a completely He looks like
the guy we drafted what we hoped he would be.
Speaker 4 (01:12:31):
Looks like a completely different player.
Speaker 3 (01:12:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:12:33):
He was that dominant, He's that quick, he was that strong,
He looked confident, look athletic. It was impressive. But I'm
gonna agree. I think the defense I had so many
oh my god moments that that jump is real.
Speaker 3 (01:12:48):
Love it all right? That is talk that talk. When
we come back, we'll give you our final thoughts and keys.
The victory that is next right here in Hawks Live.
Speaker 1 (01:12:58):
Hawks Slide presented by the Dining District of the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Square Centric cor live on air on
Seattle Sports.
Speaker 3 (01:13:09):
Last segment of a Hawks a Live presented by the
Bellevue Square Dining District of Michael Bumpas with Paul Moyer
and the squad. We got a nice crowd here today.
We appreciate y'all coming out kicking it with us, having
a good time, and he's the victory. I think we
all have our keys. But you and I watch a
(01:13:29):
lot of film. I want to say, I hope they're
not listening out of our pre halftime impost me and
you probably watch the most film. So that's why whenever
you send me a text like I literally go out,
go back and I look at it. I go, Okay,
let me see what he's talking about. Every now and
then I'll see you something like, oh, this is what
I'm seeing. But it's healthy conversation. So after watching film,
(01:13:49):
which I know you're gonna watch more of tomorrow and
Saturday before we get going, how do the Hawks get
this thing done?
Speaker 5 (01:13:56):
I think we're a better football team than there. I mean,
we're just we're faster defenses. Is a better defense there?
Speaker 4 (01:14:02):
There?
Speaker 5 (01:14:04):
They're an interesting defense. Look the way we do this,
I just want to jump on them. Early we played
it's until we played horrible as an offense.
Speaker 4 (01:14:13):
The first half.
Speaker 5 (01:14:14):
We just had a lot of we had three or
four plays that just were bad plays that win against us.
We take those away and get back to what we do.
Move the football, score, win the field position, because that
was what was important we Our field position was so
atrocious the first half. We just couldn't get anything going
and then this team with a lead, our defense is
(01:14:36):
going to be scary because we're going to get picks.
Speaker 4 (01:14:38):
We get how many passes do we touch? We get
our hands on a lot of passes.
Speaker 5 (01:14:45):
I mean it hit thoughts and right in the hand
on one Julian Love would have had to we got obviously.
The one that wool and Jenkins is going to get some.
There's a couple that they didn't quite trust their read,
but they were there. They're going to start trusting the
break on it. So I think we're a team that's
gonna create a lot of turnovers when we get a
quick lead and force them out of their game plan.
Speaker 3 (01:15:07):
This is something I'm looking forward to. The Bengals only
ran like forty four to forty eight plays the whole game.
So yes, New England Patriots, they got themselves a victory,
but they haven't had to face a lot of adversity
and grind it out a little bit and figure some
things out. Not saying those guys aren't capable of coaching
them up and making sure they're ready for that, but
(01:15:28):
they don't know what they don't know, and they haven't
felt that. So that's what I'm hoping for and you
know what the equivalent to the twelve flag raiser. We
have one every time we're at home. You know who's
raising their flag in New England, Tom Brady, Malcolm Butler. No,
they did this on purpose. Malcolm Butler. I forget what
it's called. I forget, I forget what it's called. Malcolm Butler,
(01:15:50):
is going to be their guys.
Speaker 4 (01:15:50):
Are they going to ring a bell or something?
Speaker 3 (01:15:52):
They're gonna do something.
Speaker 4 (01:15:53):
So they're gonna they're gonna light up an electric razer exactly.
Speaker 3 (01:15:58):
And then also you know, they're gonna play a highlight
on the big screen and everyone's gonna get excited and
ready to go. So I hope they take that respect.
But what's also cool about that, at the same time said,
none of these guys on this team were on the
team when that went down. They were all in middle
school or high score or something like that.
Speaker 5 (01:16:15):
I'm gonna use them, use it. I'm gonna love how
much these guys respect you even though you weren't here.
They want you to feel like you were at that game. Now,
let's tell you what. That's a tough place to play.
It takes a while to get there. It's in Foxboro
six hours not in in Boston, I mean, and it's
a two lane highway to go there, so it takes
(01:16:37):
a long time, a long bus ride as well, so
they're gonna have to get ready to an early game.
Speaker 4 (01:16:41):
But we are gonna win this soccer.
Speaker 3 (01:16:43):
Let's go get it. Malcolm Butler, I fight them right now.
If I now, I'm just flaying. Michaelmann.
Speaker 4 (01:16:49):
You're here fighting. You wear them out, and I'm there.
If you can't get them.
Speaker 3 (01:16:52):
There, we go. Okay, we'll get it. We'll get them.
We have them, give them a couple of drinks, hey man.
