the Bilby Collection.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
The show is at seven.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
Every Thursday right here on Seattle Sports seven ten, broadcasting
live from w Square Center Court.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
We're back more yay yo, We're doing it again.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Man.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
How you doing.
Speaker 4 (00:31):
Yeah, I'm excited. I'm generally excited. You all should be excited.
We were talking off there. That is excited. I've been
for the Seahawks scope in the season and probably six years,
you know, maybe longer. I mean, you know, twenty sixteen, seventeen,
a little bit last year because we've come off a
(00:51):
playoff here. But I think we really believe we've got
talent on this team, both on both sides of the ball.
I think what we're gonna do schematic it really plays
into our our our talent as well, and what we
saw in preseason on defense has got me pretty jacked up, man.
Speaker 5 (01:09):
Yes, this is gonna be fun.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
I think if there's anything you can take away from
the preseason is that defensively, the players were in the
right spot right.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
You still gotta make tackles.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
You's gotta still have to attack the ball out the are,
you still have to do all these things. But offensively,
it's where I'm looking forward to seeing how Ryan Grubb
brings that Mount Lake offense to this Seattle offense. And uh,
you know what, I'm a koop a knowdub issue.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
Still, hey beat the dogs three times.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Don't get at me, Okay, But I respect Ryan Grubb
and what he did, and I'm excited to see how
he allows Gino to blossom a bit more. Because people
look at Gino and say, he's been in the league ten.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Plus years, how much more can he grow?
Speaker 3 (01:52):
He's only been a starter like four out of those
ten years, so I think that there's more for him
to do and I'm excited to see it.
Speaker 5 (02:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
Well, I'm gonna a fall up to you does he
bring because we don't know what kind of offense they're
gonna run. He didn't show anything in preseason. What we
do know is they're gonna motion a lot. It's gonna
make defense just have to think on the run a bunch.
Speaker 5 (02:16):
And that's not.
Speaker 4 (02:17):
Always easy to do because there's a lot of play
callers who wait till the last second to get the
play in and if you do that, you can't have
a lot of motion because you run out of time.
What do you what is gonna be the identity of
this offense?
Speaker 3 (02:30):
Well, if you listen to Grub, he says, look, we're
gonna run the football, and I think you need to
run the football.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
The older I.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
Get, the more I appreciate the run game.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
You holler at me.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
In twenty ten, when I was the offensive coordinator for
Redmond High School, we threw the ball seventy five times
out of eighty plays. Now me, I'm not gonna tell
you my age a bit older. Now, Moyer, I look
at the run game and I tell myself it's gonna
set everything up. People look at this Grub offense and
think that he's just gonna throw the ball across the
yard because of myx Romadoonza PAULK.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
McMillan.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
I understand that, but he had a thousand yard rusher
while he was there. So the fact that he was
able to camouflage the run and highlight the pass is
encouraging to me because I think that Ken Walker is
going to get the rock and it's going to be
more balance than you think.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
If you have the not the opportunity, but the decision
to pass.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
And run like you have it as off as a coordinator,
it makes the play calling a bit easier. So I
expect not a balance attack, but an attack that is
that required, that is required depending on the game that
you're playing.
Speaker 4 (03:36):
The one thing about coach McDonald and when you watch
it on defense and you watched what he coached before
at Baltimore and even Michigan and College, they don't play
man that every man runs to the football. If you
don't run to the football, you will not be on
the field. And it's he preaches physicality. I mean that
is they are a physical They are going to hit you.
(03:59):
And I think that's what Grubb brings to the offenses.
I don't know how much they're gonna run, but we're
gonna be a physical running football team. I think you know.
At the same time, Kenneth Walker, he's a physical back.
He can be Charmoney definitely can be a physical back.
I just don't know what kind of you know, his
own scheme. I don't know what kind of running game
we're gonna do. So I'm I'm I'm curious because I
(04:21):
don't know what that identity is gonna be. I'm pretty
confident in the identity of our defense, and I thought
it played out in preseason again they are going to
fly to the football.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Well, let me ask you this.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
I'm confident in this defensive line Byron Murphy, who we'll
see later, hang around, Hang around, all right, Jay Reed,
Big Kat Williams, Draymond Jones. I feel like the defensive
line is going to be on point. I think the
back end is going to be on point. You gotta
wreak on one side, spoon on the other, Shrey Brown.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
You got the safeties.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
The linebackers is the one spot to where I'm like,
I don't know how these guys are gonna perform, But
I watched Dodson on film, I watched Baker from a
year ago, and I feel good about it.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
How how do you feel about this box in general?
Speaker 5 (05:11):
Well, first of.
Speaker 4 (05:11):
All, I think, look, Jay Reed, when we get I
won't give all my questions to Murphy, right, now. But
the man was double teamed pretty much every play in college.
I mean, that's how dominant he was. He was either
being chipped with a running back even up the middle,
or they were double team a slide in his way,
(05:31):
or when they ran away from him, they just tried
to cut him off and make him chase. He's got
a motor that's incredible, So I'm excited to see what
he does versus you know, one on one situation. I'm
the same thing with Williams, same thing with jay Ree
because Jay Reid got double team a ton last year,
and I think they're gonna be in positions that suit
their ability the best. So I think we're gonna have
(05:54):
a potential dominant pass rush and run defense. You know,
Murphy who were gonna have earlier takes pride and stopping
to run. He is a complete player. I mean, he's
going to be the best I think defensive lineman we've
had since Cortez Kennedy. I mean, I think he's that complete,
not just a pass rusher, not just to run.
Speaker 5 (06:11):
Stuff, or he could do it do at all.
Speaker 4 (06:14):
But I'm most excited from an upgrade standpoint, it's our
middle linebackers and look, Bob Wagner, great player, is going
to be on the Ring of Honor.
Speaker 5 (06:23):
He's gonna be in the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 4 (06:25):
I know y'all love him, but sometimes you just got
to tell the truth. And the truth is he's taken
a major step back, particularly in the pass game. And
he was on the field every play. He didn't have
one interception, he didn't have one cosset fumble.
Speaker 5 (06:40):
Last year.
Speaker 4 (06:40):
He had a lot of tackles downfield. You go watch
what Dotson did just in preseason in the passing game.
Just that alone makes us a better football team because
he can cover and it's not just cover a tight
end or a back coming out of the backfield. He
understands zone passing concept. So they were running a round.
They tried to clear him and he saw an end route.
(07:02):
He let the titand go down the middle. All of
a sudden, he picked up the cross from route. He
came in with him for two steps, didn't look back
for the ball yet got in the guy's hip pocket,
then got looked for the ball, and I don't know,
he probably had three or four pass the defense just
in preseason. He's gonna have some interceptions and then we
haven't even seen Jerome Baker yet. I know he can cover.
(07:23):
I didn't know Dobson was going to be that good.
So I'm excited at our middle linebackers. We're giving up
some weight, so the defensive line they're gonna have to
keep these guys off balance. But I think, and I'll
close it with this, what I'm excited about is the
offensive line. You're gonna have to go find us. We're
not just gonna be this old school. We're gonna read it,
(07:44):
we're gonna recognize it, then we're gonna react to it.
I mean, it's just too late and these guys are
too big and too athletic on the offensive line.
Speaker 5 (07:50):
Now, they're gonna have to come find us.
Speaker 4 (07:52):
And if you watch Dobson and Julian Love a couple
of times, yeah they attacked. They recognized and attacked. They
weren't doing them. We recognize react. It was boom gone.
So yeah, I think we're gonna be a much more aggressive.
I don't think we're gonna blitz a lot, but we're
gonna be aggressive what we do, and we're gonna be
(08:13):
able to attack the running game.
Speaker 5 (08:14):
I think we're gonna be a great cover team.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
Do y'all feel his passion for the defense right now.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
He's excited about this defense, so that makes me excited
as well. There's a new error when he comes to
these linebackers, and I think that Bobby and kJ were
the perfect transitioning to these guys Baker and Dohnson. And
then especially because you have Mike McDonald, who was the
conductor of one of the best defenses of all time
(08:41):
when it comes to the Baltimore Ravens of last year.
I don't think people realize that defense is some things
that have never been done before. So the fact that
he can bring that infrastructure here to Seattle and allow
these guys to first and I think it's gonna be
awesome before we get out of here though.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
This offense, Moyer.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
If there is something that I am most optimistic about,
it is the offense. Because you have Gino, because you
have Tyler d k j is, Sin ken Walker.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
You got to figure out who your offensive line is
going to be.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
You bring over Kenner, Excude, Connor Williams from from the Dolphins.
You also got Lincoln Tomlinson. You got some young guys. Actually,
I just had a conversation with Abe Lucas. If you
see him, leave him alone. He's fine. Okay, just talk
to Abe Lucas. But there are some things that need
to happen. Skill guys are good offensive line. You need
to tighten some things up. What are your thoughts there?
Speaker 5 (09:31):
I think this.
Speaker 4 (09:33):
I think Gino Smith is going to have an unbelievable year.
Speaker 5 (09:37):
I think they're going to protect him better.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
I think there he's not gonna be worried about the
perfect read, the perfect throw every time.
Speaker 5 (09:45):
I think he's gonna be able to just let it loose.
And the one thing we know he.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
Through the statistics, he's actually the most accurate quarterback in
the NFL, and that for he misses the least of
any quarterback in the in the study. So if you
give time, give them protection in that pocket, and let
us push the ball down field, push it downfield.
Speaker 5 (10:06):
And here's the thing.
Speaker 4 (10:08):
If it's third down and two, we don't have to
run a stick route at third and two. We're not
gonna have that third and seven. I know what they're
gonna run. You guys are gonna run a seven yard
route and they're gonna we're all the defensive sat on it.
Speaker 5 (10:20):
They'll go over the top on you.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
So I just think we'll see more creativity and get
our We're as skilled as any team in the NFL
offensively with our three wide receivers are tied in or
running back on our quarterback.
Speaker 5 (10:34):
Man, let's let's cut it loose.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
With them, let it go, come on out.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
This is the first time that I've ever rooted for
skin my life, Ryan Grudd, you go ahead and get it.
Once you put on the Seahawk colors. I'm with you
one hundred percent. So yeah, Maya, I'm excited. I want
to see what his offense looks like. I think that
he will allow Geno to take another step in his
career because people have pigeonholed Gino for so long and
say this is who you are. But four years as
(11:00):
a starter lots of room to grow. So we're just
gonna start it. Man, we're here live. Look at this
crowd right here.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
You guys look good. You're ready to go.
Speaker 3 (11:09):
All right when we come back, we'll get an opponent
preview from Parker Gabriel from the Denver Post That is
next right here on Hawks Live.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
Hawkss Live, presented by the Dining District at the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Square Center Court live on air on
Seattle Sports.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
This is Hawks Live, presented by the Dining District after
Bellvy Collection. The show is every Thursday at seven right
here on Seattle Sports seven to ten broadcasts in live
for belvi Square Center Court. Right now, we're talking to
Parker Gabriel from the Denver Post.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
Parker, how you doing.
Speaker 6 (11:43):
I'm doing great. How you doing?
Speaker 2 (11:44):
We're well, man, we are well.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
I'm not gonna lie to you, Parker. We're looking at Bonnicks.
We're looking at this Denver team and saying we should
get them. What are they saying about the Seahawks as
far as the fans, the coaches, the media.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
What's the vibe over there?
Speaker 6 (12:03):
Yeah? I think. I mean, anytime you're you're gonna play
a rookie quarterback, there's a sense of optimism just like
about where you're about the future, and and sometimes it's
like you might be you know, you might have I
think fans have optimism long term and maybe don't know
exactly what to think in terms of like right out
of the gate and then like just being in the
locker room. Players have a lot of trust in Boonix.
(12:26):
They think he's going to play well and at least
be like confident and in command from the start. Now,
whether that means you can go on the road and
win in one of the loudest stadiums in the country
week one is another story obviously. And then the other
thing that's interesting, which you guys obviously well know, is
just there's so much new in Seattle. Like I was
(12:46):
talking to DJ Jones, the defensive lineman today in the
locker room. He was like, yeah, I mean, you don't
know exactly what to expect. That's always the case with
Week one, it's especially the case this week, and then
it's especially especially the case with the Broncos because of
the rookie quarterback. In all so, I'd say there's some
excitement and also a big dose of just like you
don't quite know what to expect.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
Where are they most excited? Because talk with brock Hewart,
he lives there, and he said, the fans are pretty
juiced up for this this season with Denver. Where where
do they Where's the most excitement? I mean because at
one point a couple of year ago, your guys defense
was dominant and fell off a little bit. So just
curious and where the excitement is other than just bo nas.
Speaker 6 (13:30):
Yeah, I think it's just in general, there's a sense
that it's kind of funny because the you know, the
powers that be with the franchise in the front office
and the coaching staff, like and even the players, they
don't they don't like the term rebuilding, right like, they don't.
They don't want to look at it that way, and
frankly like they shouldn't look at it that way. In
the NFL necessarily, like you can make the playoffs from
(13:51):
a lot of different positions. But I think that there's actually,
you know, I think there's a lot of fans that
are are maybe a little bit relieved that this is
going to be a young team, that they that they
bit the bullet and took the historic you know, dead
money hit with Russell Wilson to start the clock toward
the next era. And any franchise can get sucked down
(14:13):
the tube of like you're always just trying to get
to the next thing. But it feels like for the
first time, you know, certainly in three years I've been
on the beat, and I think honestly, for the first
time probably in you know, five years or more, the
Broncos feel like there's a real sense like, hey, this
is a group that could be on the right track.
And even if it doesn't all click, you know, right
(14:35):
away in the opening weeks of the season, you know
you've got a young quarterback, you've got a younger roster
than you've had in several years, and you've got the
sense of sort of like direction for a group that
you know could take its lumps this year. But really,
I mean, frankly, after this season is going to have
(14:56):
a lot of flexibility. And if you have that combined
with what you think is the the answer at quarterback
long term, that's not a bad position to be in.
You just you have to know the answer on the
quarterback by the end of this year.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
Parker, I'm with you.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
I think that you've you've probably found the answer at
the quarterback spot.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
I think bow Nicks is going to be fine.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
But to help them out, you got to lean on something,
right defense, offensive line, running backs, receivers. What do you
think this team should lean on to keep these fans optimistic?
Speaker 6 (15:26):
Yeah, they've got They've got on the highest paid offensive
lines in football. You know, they they Garrett bolls Is,
you know, is cap numbers twenty million this year, and
the three other guys have cap numbers upwards of fifteen million.
I think cash wise, their fifth in the NFL in
terms of what they're paying back group. They just gave
Quinn Minors top of the market money at right guard,
(15:48):
and so you know, you've got four top tier offensive
lineman in terms of money, and then they're breaking in
a new center like that has to be the bad
rock of this team in order for them to you know,
just I think play functionally this year, let alone, if
they're going to surprise people, and so to me, it's
(16:09):
that they they should be better on the defensive front
than they were last year, which they were not very
good last year upfront defensively, and then offensively. They need
to be able to control games. It makes like easier
on a defense, It makes like thesier on a rookie quarterback.
It takes pressure off of everybody if you can run
the football, you know, and protect the are under center.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
Sean Payton's always been a confident guy, and I think
last year he came in pretty confident that he would
turn the you know, Broncos around, and obviously a little
bit of humble pie there, and you got to have
the right pieces is probably what he found out. Have
you seen any changes this year and Sean Payton as
the head coach.
Speaker 6 (16:51):
Just I think he's energized by the idea of having
a young quarterback room. I mean, it's pretty pretty well
documented at this point that it just you know, it
did not work between he and Russell Wilson, And you know,
I think he's got a room now. Whether the guys
actually play at a higher level than Russell, you know,
(17:11):
this year remains to be seen, but like he's got
a room that plays the way he wants the quarterback
position to play. And I think that you know that
that has certainly I think helped his state of mind
this year. And at the same time, the guy is
has been doing this a long time. And when training
(17:32):
camp started, he was much less relaxed than he was
over the offseason. And when game week arrived, he was
much less relaxed than he was during training camp. And
so that's just the that's the way it is for everybody.
That's the way it is this season, And I think
you get this sense of like he I think he
believes in the direction they're headed. But also he's never
(17:55):
had a rookie quarterback. He's never won fewer than seven games.
He's playing with the rookie quarterback this year. And you know,
Stevin is maybe realistically, you know, in that area where
they are so for all of the excitement and all
of the energy before the season, this is still in
a lot of ways, guys, probably going to be a
(18:17):
campaign the likes of which he really hasn't dealt with before.
So that you know, that's part of it is accepting
that challenge and figuring out how to navigate it and
and get better as the season goes along.
Speaker 3 (18:29):
All right, man, Parker, we appreciate your time and you
hanging out with us today.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
You take care and have a good one, my man.
Speaker 6 (18:36):
Yeah, you bet. We'll see you guys up there.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
All right.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
That was Parker Gabra of the Denver Post. Hey, come
join us here at Hawks Live at Bellvy Squares Center Court,

(19:00):
the guy thirty eight. I love this dude, Brady Russell.
That's next right here on Hawk's Lot.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
Hawks Live.
Speaker 1 (19:07):
I'm presented by the Dining District of the Bellevue Collection
at Bellevue Square Center Court, live on air on Seattle Sports.
Speaker 3 (19:15):
Welcome back to Hogslide, presented by the Dining District at
the Belvy Collection. The show is at seven every Thursday
right here in Seattle Sports seven can seven ten excuse me,
broadcas a live from Belvy Square in a cording. Now
we are joined by Brady Russell. Brady, how are you
doing tonight?
Speaker 7 (19:32):
Man? Oh, I'm doing great. Just tuned in here the
Pialla Rodeo.
Speaker 2 (19:37):
The Pialla Rodeo. Man, you are a Washingtonian already? Brother?
Are you from? Where are you from?
Speaker 5 (19:43):
From here?
Speaker 2 (19:44):
Where are you at?
Speaker 7 (19:45):
I'm from Colorado, Colorado?
Speaker 3 (19:47):
Okay, Hey, Brady, I'm You've been one of my favorites.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
Man.
Speaker 3 (19:52):
I see three eight running down the field making tackles
with your long hair because I don't have it anymore.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
I'm jealous. And and uh, you were.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
Doing your thing man and then I remember I don't
know what game it was, but you had to catch
on the sideline where you made a playoff field and
then a guy it punched out of bounce.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
You've just done everything.
Speaker 3 (20:10):
I've seen you tackle, I've seen you block, I've seen
you catch footballs. Man, when you enter a preseason, is
that your mentality, like I have to do everything that
I can?
Speaker 7 (20:21):
Oh, yeah, that's kind of I think as an undrafted
guy especially, that's got to be the mentality is the
more you can do, the harder it is to cut.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
You so.
Speaker 7 (20:30):
Excelling in a lot of different areas. And that guy
even in my backup long snappers, So just kind of
wherever you can interject yourself, you gotta gotta take advantage
of it.
Speaker 5 (20:42):
Are you are you as a backup holder? Also?
Speaker 7 (20:46):
Yeah, that happened this bring. That was funny.
Speaker 5 (20:49):
That's not easy.
Speaker 7 (20:51):
I know I've never done it before, but you know
Dixon was gonna be out of town, so it was like, well,
someone's got to do it, So I gave it a
shot with pretty well.
Speaker 5 (21:01):
I remember back in my day, I was they did
the same thing.
Speaker 4 (21:04):
I had good hands as a dB and say put
me in as the backup holders. It's just hard, but
it is. I mean, it's you know, you got to
be smooth with it. You got to be able to
put the ball in the right in the right spot.
But here's what it's telling me, Brady, you're an athlete,
and so what did you do before playing football? Were
you all around athlete in high school?
Speaker 7 (21:27):
By the time I got to high school, actually, I
ran track freshman year, but after that, I was I
was so immature physically that I mean, I was like
one hundred and forty pounds slot receiver as a freshman.
So I've been every off season trying to gain as
much weight as I could just in the weight room.
It's about all I did football in the weight room.
Speaker 3 (21:48):
You know what, I'm gonna tell my son about you,
because my guy just started high school today and he
looks like he's in sixth grade. So I'm gonna tell him, Hey,
Brady Russell said, don't worry about it, but hey, man,
if he wants it, Hey, if he wants it, I
tell him prayer at night each of vegetables and go
to sleep.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
You'll be fine. Hey.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
But but Brady, man, what's it like for you? Like
have you always had the mentality of just being kind
of reckless, because I watch you play and it's like
you have to be kind of crazy and reckless to
do the things that you do, but you also have
to find the line and say, all right, I have.
Speaker 2 (22:26):
To do this within the scheme of the game.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
Is that something that's always been with you or something
that you've developed over the years.
Speaker 7 (22:35):
I'd say it's kind of been. That's something I had
when I was a kid, for sure, a little bit
of a reckless mentality, but I think that comes with
being the youngest of three brothers. So I was a
crash dummy. You know, that's a big part of it.
But I like to think of it as a controlled chaos.
Speaker 4 (22:55):
You your second year now, and they always talking about
the jump from your rookie yar your second year, But
this is also the third scheme, third offensive coordinator you've
had in three years. You come from Colorado. Last year
you got Waldron. Now you know we got Grub. How
difficult is that to learn a new and it's basically
(23:16):
learning a new language each year.
Speaker 7 (23:20):
Yes, their shoot. I think I had four of them
in college, and then I had when I was in
Philly last preseason and then I came here and now Yeah,
so I couldn't tell you how many I've had, but
learning an offense ain't too much trouble for me anymore.
Speaker 3 (23:36):
Right, it's almost like they speak of it's almost like Latin, right,
I hear Latin and here Spanish, I hear English. I go, yeah,
I can kind of make out what they're saying. You know, yeah,
it's Latin music. Come on, you get it?
Speaker 2 (23:53):
Got that live a one.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
I've been married fifteen years, bless my heart. But right
when when you think about this offense and how explosive
it can be, I'm really excited about this tight end
room because I think fact you guys will be able
to tap into something we haven't seen here in a while.
Described Grub and how he talks about and teaches this offense.
Speaker 7 (24:19):
Yeah, that's a good question to describe Grub. He's a
very detailed guy. But at the same time he allows
us to have our freedom to I mean, we've been
playing a long time, right, so we have instincts and
we have knowledge about the game that when you're out
there on the field, like something that maybe all week
(24:41):
long you've been doing it a certain way on paper
or whatever, But he trusts our instincts, threats to go
make plays and have the freedom to to do so.
I guess that does that make sense?
Speaker 2 (24:53):
Yeah? Yeah, it does.
Speaker 4 (24:54):
Yeah, absolutely, I'll stay with that type of question. Let's
talk about coach mcdo him. He's a defensive guy. Usually,
you know, head coaches have a way of spending more
time on one side than the other. But he's actually
going to be the guy calling the defensive plays. How
much interaction does he have with the offense?
Speaker 7 (25:15):
Oh, quite a bit, I'd say. I mean, I'll practice long,
I'll he's right there in the thick of it, and
they're an individual drills and stuff. He'll be circling around.
But he does a good job outside of practice as well,
interacting with us. And he's in the tight end room
just the other day just talking to us, kind of
(25:36):
hanging out before our meeting even started. So he does
a good job of investing in us as well. So
it is cool that he's able to do that.
Speaker 5 (25:43):
What type of personality is he?
Speaker 4 (25:46):
And I think of the movie Miracle, The Miracle on
ice and Herb Brooks the coach and when he was
picked a team without any help, he walked in and
said I'll be your coach. I won't be your friend.
If you need a friend, you got coach.
Speaker 5 (26:01):
Here and here.
Speaker 4 (26:02):
What what is coach McDonald like in how he interacts
with you guys?
Speaker 1 (26:09):
Uh?
Speaker 7 (26:09):
I think it's kind of fun because I don't think
I've ever had a coach quite this young.
Speaker 4 (26:14):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (26:16):
But he's he has a good way of being a
leader and using his authority. But also he sometimes he
just feels like he's another one of the guys, you know,
which is really cool because he has the respect that
is needed and kind of demanded. I guess as well,
Uh from a head coach, or I guess from a
(26:37):
good head coach, it should be right. And but he
also is able to relate with us, So it's a
it's a cool dynamic.
Speaker 2 (26:46):
That's awesome.
Speaker 3 (26:47):
And I had Homegren on his way out when I
was in NFL, so there's no games at Homegren. Get
your job done or your cut, but man, you're on
your off time.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
Man.
Speaker 3 (27:00):
When I was in the league, call of duty online
was just getting popping, So I spent a lot of
time doing that and my wife will remind me of that.
Now I spend a lot of time golfing on all times?
Speaker 2 (27:13):
What do you do? What do you do for fun? Shoot?
Speaker 7 (27:18):
Typically, I mean I don't got a lot of free time.
I get home and I'm well. I did tune into
the Rodeo tonight. That's probably the first time my TV
has been on in a few weeks. But uh, I
read and I watch some tape and go to sleep.
But I do on our off days, I like to
go hunting and duck season will start up here in October,
so I'm pretty excited about that.
Speaker 2 (27:39):
All right, what do you read right now?
Speaker 7 (27:43):
Right now, I'm reading a It's a biography on Zach Williams.
I don't know if you know who that is. He's
a former rock star turned worship leader, which is pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (27:54):
Awesome.
Speaker 5 (27:55):
Wow, Yeah, that's that's unique.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
I see you were born in Camp Pendleton, cal. All right,
are you are you? Are you military family there?
Speaker 7 (28:06):
Yes, sir, Yeah, I was born there and then we
moved about six weeks later to Florida.
Speaker 4 (28:10):
So was your was your father was a career military?
Speaker 7 (28:17):
Yes, sir, he was twenty five years in the military,
twenty have him active duty?
Speaker 2 (28:26):
Brady, Uh, we appreciate you, man.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
There's something about the tight ends that always get me
in more.
Speaker 8 (28:32):
You're going.
Speaker 3 (28:32):
You guys are a unique breed. You're asked to do
a lot. You're attached to the offensive line, you're using
the run game, and then uh, you do things like
running the wrong route but getting the football and scoring
touchdowns in preseason.
Speaker 2 (28:45):
So hey, we appreciate you, Brady man, and I'm so
glad you're on this team.
Speaker 8 (28:49):
Man.
Speaker 2 (28:50):
We love you Man, appreciate you well.
Speaker 7 (28:52):
I appreciate you all too. Appreciate you having me on.
Speaker 3 (28:54):
All right, Ben, have a good one. That was Brady Russell.
Give it up one time for Brady Russell. My guys
in in the middle of the season, it took time
to hang out. When is when we returned, we would
go around the NFL. That is next right here on
Hawks Live.
Speaker 1 (29:08):
Hawks Live presented by the Dining District at the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Square Center Course live on air on
Seattle Sports.
Speaker 3 (29:18):
Welcome back to Hawks Live, presented by the Dining District
at the Belti Collection every Thursday at seven. Right here,
bevery squares in the court. I want my guy Paul Moyer.
We were trying to figure out how long we've been
doing this.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
This is like the year six or seven. I think
you're like four of us doing it just But we've
been at this for a while.
Speaker 8 (29:39):
Man.
Speaker 4 (29:39):
We did it with Wyman hosting for a few years,
and you and I were kind of sidekicks. Nasa just said,
I've been doing this for nine years. I didn't even know.
I don't even know how I got started to do
it on a Thursday. I must just stop traveling a
little bit, because back in the old days, I mean
I traveled Monday through Thursday.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
I was never you just showed up and never left.
Speaker 3 (30:00):
Know.
Speaker 4 (30:00):
I filled in for like Warren Moon one year, and
then Max Strong for a few times. And then when
Nasa became the producer, I don't know. He just knows talent.
And he said, hey, I'm getting you two together.
Speaker 2 (30:12):
Is I need a guy? I know a guy.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
He's the guy. All right, let's go around the NFL
man the first one. Listen, all right.
Speaker 2 (30:19):
We all have those XES that we check in on, all.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
Right, And if you were maybe born in the sixties
or the fifties, you don't check up on your EX.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
But anything after that, you don't you check up on
your X. Nah, you don't.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
I don't have an EX exactly A good answer. Number
one answer, family feud number one answer.
Speaker 2 (30:39):
Thank you all right, But we.
Speaker 3 (30:41):
Check up on our axes over here, and our ex
is Russell Wilson moreyr.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
I'm so concerned you got hold on on.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
We got a live audience here and you're booing Russell Wilson.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
Super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (31:00):
Oh, don't be arguing with the crab man. You may
lose this one.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
No, I'm not losing. I never lose hold on. Russell
Wilson helped get you a Super Bowl. Give him some love.
Speaker 4 (31:12):
You'll give him love when he's retired, right now. Wow, Man,
they look you know what. You know what happens what exes.
Sometimes they get stung and they just can't let it go.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
I do you know what? So you're treating Russell like
my ex in high school? I get you? Okay, moving along, Yeah,
but we're.
Speaker 3 (31:32):
We're gonna see what he does, right because Mike Tomlin
brought him over and says he's going to be our guy.
That all of a sudden, Justin Fields is available. He goes,
just in case, I'm bringing this young man over.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
I'm interested. I want to see what he looks like.
Speaker 4 (31:46):
Week one, me too, I'm pulling for him as much
as Tom Brady made Bill Belichick look maybe not as
great a coach as all the Super Bowls, and it
was more because of Tom Rady and less about Bill Belichick.
I think Russell Wilson has said it was more about
Pete Carroll than it was about Russell Wilson. And that
(32:08):
doesn't mean Russell Wilson wasn't a good quarterback. He was
a very good quarterback in the system we had, and
I thought Pete played the system so that he could
excel the best he could, and Russell didn't get that.
You know, I want to go and be you know whoever,
Patrick Mahomes, You're not. You're not that guy, Drew Brees.
(32:33):
I want to be anybody but Russell Wilson. Yeah, and
and rely on defense in a running game. But I'm
pulling for him. They just don't have the talent there.
Speaker 5 (32:41):
They don't have.
Speaker 4 (32:42):
I don't think they're gonna be able to protect him.
I think defensively they'll be pretty decent, like they usually are.
But I'm pulling for him. I just I don't think
he's a bad person. He's a little quirky. I think
he's a good person and I don't wish negative on
people period. It'll be an open competition, and Justin Field
says yes. I just don't think Justin Fields is a
(33:06):
the quarterback in today's game. You know you've got to
be able to throw the football first. Now, he's talented.
I think you know, if you need to play with
great defense, run the football, and he can run. But
I think what we saw in Chicago is who he is.
And Russell's on the backside. I mean, he's not gonna
make the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
You don't think so.
Speaker 5 (33:26):
Now, you don't win a Hall of Fame just winning one.
Speaker 4 (33:29):
He had a really good stretch of seven or eight years,
but you got to win two to get that guarantee.
Speaker 5 (33:35):
Eli Manning has won two.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
He that was my question I was gonna ask.
Speaker 5 (33:41):
The only reason he.
Speaker 4 (33:41):
Would get in is because he won two Super Bowls.
Terry Bradshaw didn't have great numbers.
Speaker 2 (33:46):
He won four.
Speaker 4 (33:47):
Four, Yes, what I mean, so super bowls matter. I
think if he won the second one, he's in for sure.
Russell Wilson, but I think the stain of his the
demise of his career, is going to be their voters
are just They're going to remember that, and they're going
to say you were a system guy.
Speaker 5 (34:06):
I think he created that more than now.
Speaker 3 (34:08):
That's so unfortunate because there were years where he carried
the squad and the defense wasn't anything. But you're right,
it's all about how you are perceived. Right now, it
is twenty to ten. The Chiefs have the lead over
the Ravens in the third quarter. So I was hoping
that the Ravens beat the Chiefs and the Chiefs go
on and do what they what I think they're gonna
do and win another championship. But that isn't the case.
(34:31):
All right, Let's talk more about the NFL. Aaron Rodgers
last year, there was so much hype around him playing
for the Jets, the offensive weapons, he had, the defense
that on paper he had four plays in.
Speaker 2 (34:45):
He's injured, he's done for the year.
Speaker 3 (34:47):
I'm looking at Aaron Rodgers, and I'm looking at that
division and I say, look, Aaron could get it done.
But you still have the Dolphins. We all know the
Patriots are, you know, not who they used to be.
How do you viewed the Jets and Aaron.
Speaker 4 (35:01):
Rodgers, Well, I think the Jets will have a good
defense offensively, Look man Hackett, their offensive coordinator.
Speaker 5 (35:08):
I'm shocked he's still there.
Speaker 4 (35:10):
Seems like a great guy, just hasn't had a lot
of success when he hasn't had Aaron Rodgers as a quarterback.
I just think, look at his age coming off that
Achilles injury. I'm more worried about his injury than anything.
But he hasn't He didn't play last year. The year
he did is last year when he's at Green Bay,
he didn't play well. So he hasn't played really good
(35:33):
football in almost four years. So yeah, he's smart and
knows how to get rid of the football and all
that stuff. But if they don't protect him, I don't
Their offensive line has been an issue.
Speaker 5 (35:45):
If they don't protect him, he's injury probably.
Speaker 4 (35:48):
I don't think. I don't see him playing every game
really not if they don't protect him. So I think, look,
I think they'll be Obviously they're going to be better.
I just I don't see the huge bounce back. Even
though pulling for something about Aaron Rodgers, he's just that weird, quirky.
I don't agree with all the junkie does, but he's entertaining,
you know, he.
Speaker 5 (36:08):
Just speaks his mind.
Speaker 4 (36:09):
I respect people just speak their mind in particularly not
hurting other people.
Speaker 5 (36:14):
So, uh so I'm pulling for him too.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
Anybody who was born in the eighties and is still
playing football, you got my support.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
Aaron born in the eighties, I got him.
Speaker 4 (36:23):
I mean born in the eighties. I mean I was
in the NFL in the eighties. I mean that's weird.
It's all right, and you were great. I'm gott I'm
getting better and better every year that I can remember.
Speaker 3 (36:34):
All Right, let's uh, let's let's stay in the in
the division, and let's talk about the forty nine ers.
Speaker 2 (36:38):
Man. That window has to be closing.
Speaker 3 (36:41):
I mean, what six years they've been at this thing,
four or five years, Conference championship, lost in the Super
Bowl two times. Trenton Williams just signed, so he's good
to go. Brandon and a Yuga as well. Next year they
have to sign brock Purty. Deebo's gonna want his money,
Kittle's gonna want his money. This is it in my
opin Moyer. If they don't get it done this year,
(37:01):
I don't know about it.
Speaker 4 (37:03):
I keep saying that because they've had to get rid
of you know, it was at Buckner they had to
get rid of some guys that they couldn't afford. They've
got six guys that are on the top five paid
at their position. Yeah, when Brock Purty signs, that changed
the game, because that's a forty to fifty I don't
I mean, I don't even get into the dollar number.
Speaker 5 (37:22):
You can't get into it.
Speaker 4 (37:23):
I look at how much salary cap is he going
to get, because if you get ten to twenty percent
of the salary cap, you're going to get forty.
Speaker 5 (37:32):
To sixty million dollars crazy in.
Speaker 4 (37:36):
Salary which is not so I big believe the next
collective bargaining agreement, there's one quarterback, there's two or three
on a team. Do the maths thirty two teams, so
there's ninety six of them out there. Ninety plus there's
over a thousand football players. I am going to collective
bargaining and saying because of the salary cap, no one
(37:57):
player can have more than ten percent of the cap.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
Crazy. I'm not crazy, no way.
Speaker 5 (38:02):
So in the NBA they do that way. They tier
it right.
Speaker 4 (38:05):
So Lebron James as much as he does here, if
you're in Tier one, you all kind of get paid
the same.
Speaker 5 (38:12):
You got a cap.
Speaker 4 (38:16):
The same, they get paid good money and then tier
two gets paid good money. When you have a quarterback
taking sixty million dollars and you're cutting a guy like,
who do we cut the guy who went to Caroline linebacker.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
Our sheriff, sheriff. Now it was OHG Redigan.
Speaker 4 (38:33):
Redigan did not make this team because he was making
three million dollars and they said, you're a backup.
Speaker 5 (38:39):
We can't pay a backup three million dollars.
Speaker 4 (38:42):
Because we got a quarterback that's going to make fifty
sixty million dollars. Those guys are actually affecting veterans. And
so I just if I'm a player. Here, here's my point.
If you and I have a vote and we can
say I can double my salary by not allowing quarterbacks
(39:02):
to take twenty twenty five percent of the salary cap,
and we get that vote, I'm voting that man.
Speaker 5 (39:09):
You're already you're.
Speaker 4 (39:10):
Going to make fifty million dollars a year. I can't
even make the team because I cost you much.
Speaker 5 (39:17):
At do more?
Speaker 2 (39:19):
Do more? I got cut? Do more? Do more? I
feel like.
Speaker 4 (39:25):
Position, and by the way, it will still be the
highest paid position. What I'm saying is this is We've
only got one hundred dollars to spend, buddy. This isn't baseball,
where you know what, as an owner you can take
a loss.
Speaker 5 (39:40):
Now, football you can only spend so much money.
Speaker 4 (39:43):
So I know I'm bringing up this deal, but it's
got into what they've now created that the quarterback position
is so important that we're going to protect them. We're
going to change the rules of the game. I'm just like,
let's knock that off, man. And so how many quarterbacks
can you have on a team? Now?
Speaker 2 (40:00):
You really can only have one.
Speaker 5 (40:02):
I can't afford to.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
If you're not the starter, then you're not the start that.
Speaker 4 (40:05):
I mean to in the game. All right, And look,
I don't know problem captin them. They're still gonna make
a home.
Speaker 2 (40:10):
This is something we're gonna talk about after the show
over a couple of beers.
Speaker 4 (40:14):
I'm a capitalist, talk about this. I'm a capitalist. There's
so much money.
Speaker 2 (40:18):
This is why I love this guy.
Speaker 3 (40:19):
I text him all throughout the season and we'll go
back and forth all day, conversations that I love. We'll
start a podcast. You can subscribe for five ninety nine. Okay, sorry,
you're here three nights.
Speaker 2 (40:32):
When we come back.
Speaker 3 (40:33):
Man, we'll hear from Man the Rookie Byron Murphy. That
is next right here on Hawk Slide.
Speaker 1 (40:40):
Hawks Slive presented by the Dining District at the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Squares Center Court every Thursday from seven
to nine, live on air on Seattle Sports Now. If
you're your host, Michael Bumpis and Paul Moyer.
Speaker 3 (40:54):
Welcome back to Hawk Slide, presented by the Dining District
at the Bilbi Collection every Thursday. They add seven right
here of Belly Square Center cording. Now we are joined
by the Man, the myth and legend, Biber Murphy.
Speaker 2 (41:07):
Man, how you doing.
Speaker 8 (41:08):
I'm doing great, Man good.
Speaker 2 (41:09):
We appreciate you taking time out the week. We know
what it's like more. You're playing for the Hawks. I
played for the Hawks.
Speaker 3 (41:16):
Man, Thursday is crucial, So we appreciate you. So we'll
get right into this thing. Man. One of the things
that I appreciate about your game is that you're just relentless.
Speaker 4 (41:26):
Man.
Speaker 3 (41:26):
People don't realize you're taking on double teams all day.
Speaker 2 (41:29):
And if I were a.
Speaker 3 (41:30):
Man who was capable of taking on double teams and winning,
I'd be talking so much stuff. You don't even realize
what's going with what would come out of my mouth?
Speaker 2 (41:38):
Man? What's it like for you in the trenches? Man? Like?
How did you make that transition?
Speaker 3 (41:43):
Because something tells me you probably pay running back or
tight end or something like that.
Speaker 2 (41:46):
How did you get there?
Speaker 8 (41:47):
So? Oh, Man, I grew up playing running back from
Lily all the way to like ninth grade, I stopped
playing running back. Man, I transitioned to linebacker.
Speaker 2 (41:56):
Yep.
Speaker 8 (41:56):
So my sophomore year I made varsity a middle linebacker
right around like two fifty at the time. Fifty. Uh
it was. It was one game I made I forgot
like it was like a package or somewhere. I go
to d lin and I ended up making the TfL
so like the third It was like right after the
third game of the season. Right after that game, my
(42:18):
coach came up to me, one of my coaches. He
was like, you ever thought about playing D lion? I
looked at him like he was crazy at first, because
I've never seen myself playing D line like at all.
I never pictured anything. But I decided to, you know,
to make the move. I told my parents. They was
pissed off at me and everything. Mom cussing me, out like, man,
why you do that? YadA, YadA, YadA, And then but
(42:38):
you know, I end up making the busin decision for myself.
You know, that's the reason why I'm here.
Speaker 2 (42:43):
It worked out.
Speaker 5 (42:44):
Yeah, yeah, Well they paid defensive line.
Speaker 4 (42:46):
It's big money nowadays, So that was a good decision
because you know, I was blessed to coach Cortes Kennedy
back when he was the Defensive Player of the Year
and watching Byron Murphy, I said, you guys have a
different skill set, but I go, this is the most
skilled defensive lineman we've had since Cortest Kennedy. So big, big, big,
(43:06):
Those are big things to do. But what impressed me
the most, and I did, I watched a lot of
film on you, and he was double team almost every
snap last year at Texas, and he had some good
defensive linemen around him too, but they knew he was
a guy. What impressed me probably the most. You never
you never take a playoff. I mean, this guy's motor
was unbelievable. And you get double team, you get you
(43:28):
get tired. Where where does that come from?
Speaker 2 (43:30):
Man?
Speaker 5 (43:31):
Is that just born with this? Your mom, your dad?
There's got to be something about that.
Speaker 8 (43:36):
Oh man, it's really a monster, you know, just uh,
just having ever relentless monset, just you know, telling yourself.
Uh you know, just you know, just keep going always,
you know, each and every play, you know, give it, y'all,
give it one hundred percent. You know. Uh, to me,
it's all about effort. You know, I'm big on effort,
you know. Uh That's what I strived for, you know.
Uh so I just continue to push myself, you know,
(43:58):
each and area play, no matter where I'm double team,
single block, you know, whatever the case might be. And
I'm gonna going I'm going one hundred percent. I'm giving
my all every play. I'm gonna go a hundred math pout.
Speaker 4 (44:07):
When you came here, another thing that was impressive. You
have a you have a bunch of past moves. I
mean you can bul rush. I mean you got swim,
you got ripped, you use quickness. What have you added
to that since you've been here with Seattle.
Speaker 8 (44:23):
Man, I don't added a lot, uh man, just counter moves.
Just man, just being with them guys like Jay Reed, Leo,
you know, Jonathan Hankins. Man, they don't taught me. It's
like so much even with not even just move even
with my stands, just helped me get off better. But
far as moves wise, like Jay Reed, he don'e taught me.
(44:43):
You know the chop club, you know, Leo, I've been working.
I've been watching him swim, so now I'm swimming all
over the place now. So Man, learning from them, God
being around there. I appreciate them too, because that I
brought my game to a whole nother level since I've
been here.
Speaker 3 (44:55):
Man, you guys on the defensive line are responsible for
so much like what you got guys do affect the
second level and then on the back end when you
look at what Mike McDonald is trying to do with
you guys on that first and second level, how encouraged
are you about what the potential is about this defense?
Speaker 4 (45:15):
Oh?
Speaker 8 (45:15):
Man, I'm very incurious, Mike. It's it's scary man. This
Uh just how he thinks, you know, how you operate,
how you see the defense, like all these pieces and everything,
just how he put his players, put the right players
in the position to make a play. It's like he
knowsed players in and out, And man, I feel like
we're gonna really I feel like we really got some
(45:36):
special disshear. I feel like we're gonna do something really really,
like real big this. I feel like I'm gonna shock
a lot of people.
Speaker 5 (45:42):
Yeah, we we agree with that.
Speaker 4 (45:44):
I mean, we were talking about the linebackers just to
speed there, just the coverage. I think it's gonna give
you guys time to get through the quarterback and vice versa,
where they're gonna get the quarterback and they're gonna get
rid of the ball quick as well. Are they just
talk about when you're in college, were you guys a
little more of vanilla? I mean, did they do things
to try to free you up? Because I know that's
(46:05):
what Mike.
Speaker 5 (46:06):
Wants to do.
Speaker 4 (46:06):
He wants to get one on one matchups. She said,
from there, Now it's your job. But are there things
different that he does than you were doing it?
Speaker 7 (46:13):
Oh?
Speaker 8 (46:14):
Man, Yeah, it's totally different. I mean I come from
you know, a similar defense, you know, with all the
slinging to moving and everything, change diurations and stuff like that.
But in Texas, yeah, we was more vanilla. You know,
so I played primarily knows, so I was just eating
up all the doubles and everything, and then when I
did get it one on one, I just I got it,
but that was never very rare. But you know, being
(46:36):
with Mike though, I feel like, you know, he's created me,
created a lot of opportunities for me. You know, just
from the playing at the zero just three take, you know,
the four out of fives. There's so many opportunities in
the defense for me to go out there and make
a play man.
Speaker 3 (46:52):
What I love about a locker room, even from Texas
to Seattle, is that you meet so many people from
different places. And I remember the first time I was
up here in Northwest for the Seahawks, first time I
went camping, the first time I went snowboarding. I was
on a boat. Like, have you done something that you
haven't done in Texas?
Speaker 2 (47:12):
Here in Washington, Man, I haven't.
Speaker 8 (47:14):
I haven't. I've been so busy with you know, training, camping, everything.
I haven't. But I'm looking forward to especially getting on
that water. I got to get on that water. That
water is so beautiful.
Speaker 2 (47:22):
There's a lot to do, a lot to do.
Speaker 4 (47:24):
Now it's beautiful. You're gonna find out. I mean, this
is the opener. And I don't know how much we
promoted this, but the twelves are They're serious. Now, look
I get it. High school Texas football. There's nothing like it.
I mean, he and I were talking because I'm down
in Dallas now. I mean, you've got stadiums that are
eighty million, they're twenty thousand.
Speaker 2 (47:43):
That's crazy.
Speaker 4 (47:44):
His team last year they were I think we're thirteen
fourteen and.
Speaker 5 (47:47):
Oh one six a. I mean, just unbelievable football.
Speaker 4 (47:52):
But fan base for professional football, this is the best
in the NFL. I'm telling you right now, you guys
have been to You've had one preseason game here. I'm
telling you Sunday, the loudest stadium you've ever been to
will not be louder than you're gonna see Sunday. There
may be more people in the stands, like one hundred
thousand at Texas, but this.
Speaker 5 (48:11):
Could be crazy. Have you got the vibe yet? What
the twelves are about?
Speaker 2 (48:14):
Oh?
Speaker 8 (48:15):
Man, I got the v especially that last preseason game. Man,
they felt like a movie. You know, it was crazy.
I want to speak them to be that you know
that pack, but just knowing they came out there for
a preseason game. Man, I feel a love. I feel
a love from the fans. It's true love. And I
you know, I appreciate the fans for that for sure.
Speaker 4 (48:35):
So so one thing we we we were known the twelves.
They create more fault starts in any stadium in in
the NFL. I am sorry. I was excited to get
you in. So I'm taking over the interview. But and
now I'm gonna lose. I lost my train of thought
because of that. I can't remember what I was gonna say, Paul,
(48:56):
that's okay. I literally that's all I want. I know,
But I don't remember that I was gonna say ask question.
Speaker 3 (49:02):
All Hey, so you're sitting there and with your family
and your friends one you had the livest draft party
of all the guys that I saw. I said this
to you during the rookie spotlight pops fit Gucci had
to toe was on point.
Speaker 2 (49:21):
Man. I love that, and I told my boys, I go,
we need this energy there.
Speaker 3 (49:26):
You know what I'm saying, Like, the Northwest is a
special place. But I think that because of football, you're
able to bring so many different coaches and styles and
stuff to the game.
Speaker 2 (49:34):
I'm loving what what what you bring to this team? Man?
Is there anyone on the squad that you connect with?
Speaker 7 (49:40):
It?
Speaker 2 (49:41):
When it comes to just the culture that you're bringing
to this thing.
Speaker 8 (49:45):
Man, that's my guy. You know, since I got here.
You know, he took me up under his wing man.
That's that's that's my guy. That's that's my bit. So
he not take his cat, but he's from North Carolina.
But yeah, man, me and we relate to you to
the a lot it.
Speaker 4 (50:02):
You're gonna make him better too, because he got doubled
the bunch last.
Speaker 2 (50:05):
Year and still got seven seconds.
Speaker 5 (50:07):
Well, I don't know who they're want to double. I mean,
I don't know if they're gonna be able to double
anybody there.
Speaker 4 (50:11):
So here was my Now I got my train of
thought that he messed me up there. I was saying,
But the number of false starts we've had, we've we
lost a little bit of the home field advantage over
the last few years.
Speaker 5 (50:24):
I'm more saying, A Twels aren't loud.
Speaker 4 (50:26):
No, No, when it gets loud is when the defense
is dominant. Because these are educated fans, they will be
quiet when the offense is on the field, and they
do not stop at all when the defense there and
stops and turnovers and sacks. So I'm just challenging, we
got to get that legion to Boom twelve home field
(50:47):
advantage and it's gonna start with you guys. Man, I'm
just really excited for this defense and you'll being a.
Speaker 5 (50:52):
Part of it.
Speaker 3 (50:54):
Is there so going into this season, I don't know
what what you guys listen to. You know, I do
a daily show Bump and Safety tended too, How at
your boy? I do a daily show when we talk
about you guys all the time.
Speaker 2 (51:07):
And from our.
Speaker 3 (51:08):
Perspective, it's all right, let's see how good this defense
can get.
Speaker 2 (51:11):
But we think this offense should lead the charge.
Speaker 3 (51:14):
Like, what's the feeling with you guys when it comes
to offense defense?
Speaker 2 (51:18):
Or is it truly just a team atmosphere?
Speaker 3 (51:21):
Let's go get it, you know what to the Broncos,
let's get money.
Speaker 8 (51:26):
That's That's exactly what it is. It's a brotherhood, man.
We you know, each and every day we're trying to
we push each other, you know, trying to get each
other better. You know, each and every day you know
on both you know, both sides of the ball. You know,
shopping r you know, that's what we believe in. And
you know, each and every day we step on that field, man,
you know, we take it serious. You know, you know,
you know, we close in the brotherhood. You know, when
(51:47):
we're on that field, you know, I ain't nobody, we
ain't friends at all, you know, but we but we
know how to take care of each other. Yeah, yeah,
for sure.
Speaker 5 (51:54):
We're We're fortunate to get you.
Speaker 4 (51:56):
I think most people thought you're gonna be one of
the first defensive players taking off. You were you disappointed
that you fell to sixteen or you just felt that's
just the offensive guys went, I'm I'm happy to be
here with Seattle.
Speaker 8 (52:08):
Uh, you know, it pissed me off a little bit,
but you know, I feel like, you know, it's all
guy's playing, you know again, you know, growing up, I
will I will see. I was a Seattle fan. You know,
I love Seattle. So it's just crazy just to get
drafted by Seattle. Man, I feel like it's just God
playing and I'm living. I'm happy I got drafted to Seattle.
I love it all.
Speaker 2 (52:29):
Everyone else loves it.
Speaker 3 (52:30):
Fire and Murphy, Man, we appreciate you taking time out
of your day.
Speaker 2 (52:33):
When we come back.
Speaker 3 (52:34):
What is successful the Seahawks in twenty twenty four, we'll
let you know right here on Hawk's lot.
Speaker 1 (52:39):
Hawks Live presented by the Dining District at the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Square Center Court, live on air on
Seattle Sports.
Speaker 3 (52:53):
Welcome back to Hawks Live. I'm Michael Bumas with my
guy Paul Boyer. Paul Yeah, aka two to one, Get or.
Speaker 5 (53:03):
Done, dude. That was a fun interview. It was man
Byron Murphy on just a few minutes ago. That is
going to bed.
Speaker 3 (53:10):
We are so fortunate, like we over the last what
six years we've been doing this, we interview these rookies
for the first time and then we get to see
him grow and blossom.
Speaker 2 (53:20):
And I feel like the last two years.
Speaker 3 (53:23):
This group has been one of the better groups because
they're locked in, they're focused, and it's, uh, it's a
good interview.
Speaker 5 (53:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (53:31):
I you know, I don't know if they just prepare
them better or I don't know, they just all, you know,
seem to know what they want and you know, they
speak well. So I just think, look this, he's probably
the most the most excited I've been about one of
our draft picks, and mainly because we haven't drafted high
(53:52):
and when we have drafted high, spend like Charles Cross
and d Spoon.
Speaker 5 (53:57):
Yeah Spoon, I mean you got to go back to
man a long long time before you get.
Speaker 2 (54:04):
Which is a blessing, right yeah, because we're not because.
Speaker 4 (54:08):
You know, maybe you gotta go almost back to Earl.
You know, when he got him, I thought, Okay, he
has chance to be really special. This guy has chance
to be really special. I think last year, you know,
getting JSN, I was I was pretty excited, you know,
not that I wasn't excited about Charles Cross.
Speaker 5 (54:25):
It was a need at the time.
Speaker 4 (54:26):
It's an offensive tackle and you're like going, yeah, okay, man.
When we got Walter Jones, I went, oh, he's gonna
be pretty good. But it's not the sexy pick this
guy because we just haven't had a dominant interior lineman
and so long we had good players, but I mean dominant.
And when I really truly believe he's gonna make Jay
(54:47):
read better, I mean Leonard Williams is gonna be better.
They're gonna they're not gonna be Teams are gonna have
to figure out who they're gonna say in a game plan,
who are we taking away?
Speaker 3 (54:58):
I think, as a lot of people know, it's all
it all starts in a box. So when you get
a guy who can take on double teams, who can
split the gap get in the backfield. I think it
was the game against the Charges where he got into
the backfield. It was like they're on a two or
three yard line. Almost got a sack. I believe Derek
(55:20):
Hall ended up getting the sack. But man, you guys
just watched this young man work. He's not gonna get
a lot of stats. He's not gonna wow you on
the box score, but his influence on the game it's
gonna be crazy.
Speaker 4 (55:33):
Yeah he might though because he had four and a
half sacks last year, but if you go and look
at the amount of times he split a double team
and the ball had to come out but he didn't
get a sack. Yeah, it was It's crazy how much.
And you know the other team had a really good team,
so they didn't have to play him every single snap.
You know, they had some leads and stuff. I if
(55:56):
they don't double team him, and it's hard to get
sacks in this leak. I mean, ball comes out so quick.
He is going to be disruptive that his quarterback hurry,
quarterback hits right. I think you're gonna see a lot
of those the disruption as you met I. I did
want to ask him, you know, did he think he
was a better run defender or a past rusher. But
(56:17):
he's a complete player. I don't think he has a
weakness in his game. And he's a rookie and he's
twenty one years old, youngster.
Speaker 3 (56:23):
Yeah, let's go all right, let's talk about what a
success is for this team this year. Vegas has these
guys at seven and a half wins. It always amazes
me where they find that half win.
Speaker 2 (56:35):
I don't know what they do. But for people who bet,
I guess it makes sense. To me.
Speaker 3 (56:40):
I don't bet it'll make sense. But they got him
at seven and a half wins. I got them at nine.
For me, success means that you finished second in the division,
which is gonna be tough.
Speaker 2 (56:50):
The Rams are gonna be better. Cooper Cup is here.
You got Puga Nikua.
Speaker 3 (56:54):
Obviously you've lost Aaron Donald, but Kobe Turner is gonna
be supposed to the guy to fill that role. If
you look at Arizona and this defense should be better.
They didn't lose their linebacker. I forgot his name in
u in Uh, not a Simmons. I forgot his same
starts with oh but uh, in training camp, this should
be a competitive division.
Speaker 2 (57:13):
What does it SSS look like to you?
Speaker 4 (57:15):
I think I'd be disappointed anything less than nine and seven,
and I yes, our schedule to excuse me, nine and eight. Yeah,
that's gonna still take me a few more years. I'm
gonna call the the LA Chargers San Diego a few
times too.
Speaker 5 (57:31):
Nine and eight. I think I'd be disappointed.
Speaker 4 (57:34):
I think our schedules, it's tough, but most of our
tough games Miami, Buffalo, Green Bay, they're at home, right
I mean, so, yeah, we gotta go to Detroit, but
we got to go to Atlanta, who has chance to
be much improved. So there's no easy games in the
NFL anyways, And we'll see how this thing plays out.
(57:56):
But if if we can start off four and one,
which I think we can, I mean, we hope up
against you know, a rookie quarterback, we should win that one.
Speaker 5 (58:04):
That doesn't mean we will, but should do we go
to New England, we should win that one.
Speaker 4 (58:08):
They're probably gonna have maybe I don't think Many is
starting right now, but it's Bridgewater.
Speaker 5 (58:13):
I think they have a ute.
Speaker 4 (58:17):
Then we then we got Miami here, but I think
we match up well and we're here right, and then
we have the Lions would be a tough one. Then
we have a giant so at worse three and two,
four and one, and then then the schedule gets real
because then we got the forty nine ers and some
divisional games.
Speaker 5 (58:35):
But I think success is.
Speaker 4 (58:38):
We we get back to being the dominant defense, and
I think we can and I think we become an
explosive offense again, which we have not been right, and
that to me success.
Speaker 5 (58:48):
I think the schedule will take care of itself.
Speaker 4 (58:51):
Here's where I would say, if you were a betting man,
and if if if the over under for wins was eight,
you know, and you said they massively underperformed and went
six games, or they massively overperformed eleven games, what's more
likely to happen?
Speaker 5 (59:07):
Win eleven or only win you know, six?
Speaker 2 (59:12):
That's so tough. I think eleven more likely than six.
Speaker 4 (59:17):
I think we're talented, and I think we're gonna be
a well coached team that is going to take the
gloves off and says let's go for it. And that's
just that's not a knock on our previous coaches. They
were successful. But I think with this talent. You got
to take the gloves off, but go ahead and play.
Speaker 2 (59:31):
My man says, take the gloves off.
Speaker 3 (59:33):
This next segment, he usually takes the gloves off, put
on the UFC gloves or a bit lighter and tries
to knock me out.
Speaker 2 (59:41):
But uh, seven eight years in the game, I'm still standing.
Speaker 5 (59:44):
You're my best man. I don't try to I don't
try to knock you out.
Speaker 2 (59:47):
A look at him trying to soften me up.
Speaker 3 (59:48):
All right, Coming up next, we got talk back, talk well,
knock down some categories and give our opinions, and my
guy Moyer will let you know that he is right
and I'm right as well.
Speaker 2 (59:59):
That's coming up that right here on Hawk's Live.
Speaker 1 (01:00:03):
It's time to talk that talk with Michael Bumpas and
Paul Moyer on Hawks Live.
Speaker 2 (01:00:10):
Welcome back to Hawks Live. I'm Michael Bumas with my
guy Paul Moyer. It is now time to talk that talk.
Speaker 3 (01:00:19):
This is you know, I don't I like this, but
I don't like it at the same time because you know,
I just I just do what I do and there's
no competition with this.
Speaker 2 (01:00:29):
Moyer.
Speaker 4 (01:00:31):
Well, I think I think for you what's difficult is
probably at home, you went argument and then and then
you come and hang out with your your boy and
and it's a tough one to win. It's tough because
facts mattered. Okay, this isn't about emotion.
Speaker 3 (01:00:48):
And so what you're telling me is I'm the emotional
one in my house, Jennifer bumps.
Speaker 2 (01:00:54):
If you're listening, I'm the emotional one.
Speaker 5 (01:00:58):
Look, man, I look, I the times that you bailed
on me. I blame her. Now, all right, so let's
let's go and talk to.
Speaker 8 (01:01:07):
Let's do it.
Speaker 3 (01:01:07):
Let's talk to that talk. This is when we square
up and he tells me he's right. I tell him
I'm right, and then you guys.
Speaker 2 (01:01:14):
Agree with me. Simple, got it. Let's do it.
Speaker 3 (01:01:16):
Okay, here we go. First one, moy yave yo. The
Sea Awks will be a top ten defense and year
one under coach McDonald.
Speaker 5 (01:01:24):
Oh Man, top ten. I think they'll play like a
top ten.
Speaker 4 (01:01:29):
I don't know if they'll quite get there because we
got a new coaching staff come in. We're pretty young,
we had all new linebackers. I mean, we're a very
different team. I think what's going to be tough to
make the top ten is we got the forty nine
Ers twice, we got the Rams twice, we got we're
(01:01:50):
playing some juggernaut talk. We got Miami coming up. I
just think it's the teams who are playing. But I
think we'll play like a top ten defense. I just
don't know if we'll crack that from what us.
Speaker 2 (01:02:00):
Playing like a top ten defense.
Speaker 4 (01:02:01):
It means that we're we're getting off the field, we're
winning because of our defense. They're not giving up big plays,
they're not converting forty third down, they're not winning the
time of possession. That doesn't mean we're not giving up
some yards here and there.
Speaker 2 (01:02:18):
Now.
Speaker 5 (01:02:19):
I just think we're playing such explosive.
Speaker 4 (01:02:21):
Teams that, like at forty nine, you know you got
to play perfect to shut them down.
Speaker 5 (01:02:26):
You could slow them down.
Speaker 4 (01:02:27):
I get a good example last year Baltimore when they
played the forty nine ers and they thumped the forty
nine ers, and everybody thought the forty nine ers at
time were unbeatable.
Speaker 5 (01:02:35):
They gave up yards, but they didn't give up points.
Speaker 4 (01:02:39):
And so I just think that statistic top ten yards
we may not crack, but I think we'll play like
a top ten defense for that one.
Speaker 3 (01:02:46):
Yeah, I think we agree on this first one. I
think it's so tough to go from bottom five to
top ten. If Mike McDonald is able to do that,
go ahead and crown them.
Speaker 2 (01:02:57):
Oh yeah, the old parade. Do what you gotta do.
But I think it's about progression at this point.
Speaker 3 (01:03:02):
So going from the dungeon to the middle of the pack,
I think it's good enough because I believe in the
offense and what they're going to do. So no, I
think we're on the same page with this one. I
don't think top ten is even necessary. I think that
bass is that's a goal.
Speaker 2 (01:03:18):
That's something you shoot for, but that's something that will
deter you from reaching the goal of making the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (01:03:27):
I think there's statistics that they can get in the
top ten right which we haven't been close.
Speaker 5 (01:03:33):
I think the points be one of them. I think,
you know, maybe I don't know third down conversions things
like that. Again, but everybody looks.
Speaker 4 (01:03:44):
At total yards the defense only, But you know, I
think we're going to be a much improved past defense.
Speaker 5 (01:03:50):
I'm excited to get after this on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (01:03:53):
All right, well we got yeah, next.
Speaker 5 (01:03:55):
Up, yo, Gino. I don't think he necessarily took a
step back.
Speaker 4 (01:03:59):
I think the team took a step back offensively last year,
and I think there's a lot of reasons, but Gino
Smith will have the best year of his career in
twenty twenty four.
Speaker 3 (01:04:10):
So the best year of his career is over four
thousand yards, thirty touchdowns, and I believe nine interceptions, which
he did two seasons ago in twenty twenty two.
Speaker 2 (01:04:21):
Made the Pro Bowl, made the Pro Bowl, made the playoffs,
made the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (01:04:26):
I think that Ryan Grubb is going to tap into
something that Gino could have tapped into when he was
twenty six rather than thirty two. I believe in Gino
that much, so I'm gonna go out there and say, yeah,
I'm with that. Is if he doesn't do it this year,
it doesn't mean that this team isn't successful. Like he
(01:04:46):
can have a thirty seven hundred and twenty five touchdowns,
ten interception year. As long as that defense improves the
way that we just talked about in that previous argument,
then I think they're fine. But I truly believe that
Gino have the best year of his career, which is
this year, and and do what he does.
Speaker 2 (01:05:05):
So yeah, I'm with that. Let's say I do too.
Speaker 4 (01:05:08):
I think He's gonna be the shock of the NFL
this year from an improvement standpoint, just statistically. Two reasons
why I think we're more talented an offense. You know,
I think we'll be a better offensive line. We you know,
when injuries happened last year, you know we're man. We
were scrambling, we were keeping tight ends to block. This year,
(01:05:31):
you know, I think we get no offen involved. I
think get the running back to the ball. I think
we got three wide receivers that they're going to have
to make decisions on. Gino Smith is one of the
most accurate quarterbacks in the NFL. And if you protect
the pocket and you let him push the ball downfield,
not worry about interceptions. You cannot turn the ball over,
(01:05:51):
but you can't be in his ear all the time saying,
don't throw this interception.
Speaker 5 (01:05:55):
Hey, whatever you do, don't throw this interception.
Speaker 4 (01:05:58):
The second reason why I think he he has his
career year is I think our defense is gonna be
vastly improved. He's gonna get the ball back more. I
think we'll be closer on time of possession. I think
we'll see more plays from the offense. I think we'll
convert on third down more that thing has been an
achilles heel, and it's been the sticks. Everybody nook third
and six we're gonna run sticks, or that we're gonna
(01:06:20):
come up into a bunch formation and we're gonna run
our pick routes and they just sit back, zone it
off and wait for us. So uh and I'm sorry,
I know it sounds like I'm dogging the old coach staff.
Not what I mean this staff. It's not about the sticks.
It's you want to take away sticks. We'll go over
the top, right, there's something. Sometimes it's third down seven,
(01:06:42):
I'm gonna split the seam on a four yard pass,
but I'm gonna throw it where you're moving downfield. And
I just think we're gonna convert more and third, keep
the chains moving.
Speaker 5 (01:06:51):
Really excited about what this what this offense can do.
Speaker 2 (01:06:54):
All right? I think we agree with that one, all right?
Speaker 3 (01:06:57):
Next up, the forty nine ers run of dominance ends
this season.
Speaker 4 (01:07:04):
Man.
Speaker 5 (01:07:04):
I wish, I wish.
Speaker 4 (01:07:07):
I think they take a step back, but that step
back may be a game. I think we're better. I
think the Rams are better. I think Arizona's better. I
think the division as a group has gotten a little better.
They're talented, they're they're just a talented team. You know,
they may not have the depth they had because they're
(01:07:28):
just paying all their starters all the money, so I
don't know what's behind the starters. They've played a lot
of football. There's the Super Bowl losing hangover that that
does happen, so I think they take a step back.
But as far as dominance go, man, this team is.
They're just load of a talent. They're well coached. So
I'd love to give you the the Homer twelve. We're
(01:07:52):
gonna win the West this year. But I think the
fort nine are still the top dog.
Speaker 3 (01:07:57):
No, we're not gonna win the West, but they've done
they don't because I think the Detroit Lions are going
to take this thing over.
Speaker 2 (01:08:04):
I think the Green Bay Packers are better than they
were last year.
Speaker 3 (01:08:08):
I think the Philadelphia Eagles with the weapons they have
on offense, A J. Brown, Devonte Smith, Jehad Dohnson, you
got Barkley over there. I think the forty nine ers
are gonna win the West. I think it's it's theirs
to lose. But as far as the dominance in the NFC,
this might be the first year in five years that
(01:08:29):
they don't make it to the conference championship.
Speaker 2 (01:08:32):
I truly believe that.
Speaker 5 (01:08:34):
Yeah, I guess I should. I should define what dominance is.
Speaker 2 (01:08:39):
I guess that's dominant division.
Speaker 5 (01:08:40):
Back to the super Bowl, right, I guess maybe that's
the point.
Speaker 4 (01:08:44):
I think it'll be hard for him, and it's you
got to make sure you don't have injuries, and you
know there's gonna be a surprise team or two. But
they're really talented and they're very well coached. So what
we'll see there?
Speaker 5 (01:08:56):
Do we have time for one more?
Speaker 2 (01:08:57):
Let's do one more?
Speaker 5 (01:08:57):
All right?
Speaker 4 (01:09:00):
The second year's we always talked about it's the biggest jump.
You know, We've had some really good drafts. I've seen
a guy this year that had a really good preseason
struggled a little bit last year getting on the field.
Speaker 5 (01:09:12):
I thought he was a little stiff, was learning the game.
That's Derek Hall.
Speaker 4 (01:09:15):
So my question to you on this talk is Derek
Hall would make the biggest sophomore jump on the.
Speaker 5 (01:09:22):
Team this year.
Speaker 2 (01:09:24):
So we're comparing him to all the rookies like Devin Witherspoon.
Speaker 4 (01:09:28):
Jump Devin with JSN, Anthony Bradford, Zach scharbonam.
Speaker 2 (01:09:36):
We need him to have the biggest jump because of
a Jenna to will suit.
Speaker 3 (01:09:40):
If Agenda was still healthy and available, I would say, Derek,
don't worry about it, JSN. I feel like we'll make
the jump to the number two receiver d Spoon. I
feel like will continue to be one of the best
corners in the game.
Speaker 2 (01:09:53):
So I'm gonna have to agree.
Speaker 3 (01:09:55):
That I think this team needs Derek Hall to make
that jump and he You know what's wild about at
Jennona Wills who getting banged up, is that Darryl Taylor
was let go before that injury right before. Would they
keep DT if if they knew what was gonna happen?
(01:10:15):
Our hindsight, it's always twenty twenty, you know. And if
I knew I wasn't gonna play ten years in the league,
I would have studied harder an engineer.
Speaker 5 (01:10:22):
So here's why I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:10:25):
Because Darryl Terryor was a one trick pony, right, I mean,
he was a pass rusher only he could didn't he could.
Speaker 2 (01:10:32):
Thought he was getting better at the run game.
Speaker 5 (01:10:34):
I didn't say he wasn't getting better.
Speaker 4 (01:10:36):
You don't think so, No, I didn't say he wasn't
getting better, but he wasn't good yet, and he took
plays off and he had weird technique and he couldn't
drop into pass coverage. So I think Darryl Taylor would
have still been a third down or a pass rusher.
I think we have plenty of those. I think Draymont
Jones becomes an edge rusher too. You have you know,
(01:10:58):
obviously you have boy A Maffey. There, you had Derek Hall.
So I think we got enough pieces too. I think
you made a really good point, and it actually made
me rethink this because I I was gonna say JSM
because I think Jasm is going to get a lot
of targets this year. Last year he was the third target.
This year, I think he's gonna a lot of targets.
(01:11:19):
I think we're gonna have more time to throw the ball.
I think we're get more opportunities offensively. But I agree,
I think Derek Hall is going to play more because
of a genius injury. I think what we saw in preseason,
it was a jump his physical physicalness, Uh, his speed
and strength was showed up, and so I'm excited to
see it there. And he's a great kid. I mean
(01:11:40):
you pull for these guys. Jays N's great too, So
I'm gonna agree with you because.
Speaker 5 (01:11:44):
I think we need it.
Speaker 2 (01:11:45):
Okay, this is do we agree on average?
Speaker 3 (01:11:48):
Our first argument, like you know, honeymoon stays like no, baby,
you're good. Oh no, baby, get like vacation I haven't
seen yet? While right, all right, next week we'll get
after it.
Speaker 5 (01:11:59):
Yeah, it would be like I come home from work
and see what's on what's on the kitchen sink? There
to eat? If you make my meal?
Speaker 2 (01:12:06):
Why is it dirty in here?
Speaker 5 (01:12:07):
It's right? What have you been doing all day?
Speaker 7 (01:12:12):
All right?
Speaker 2 (01:12:13):
That you gotta get us in trouble to hancel us?
Speaker 5 (01:12:16):
There's no there's no there's no live text here. So
we're good.
Speaker 2 (01:12:19):
No, we're good. There it's there. We just don't see it.
Speaker 6 (01:12:21):
All right.
Speaker 3 (01:12:22):
Coming up next, we'll give you our final thoughts and
keys of victory.
Speaker 2 (01:12:26):
That is next right here on Hawk's.
Speaker 1 (01:12:28):
Live talkss Live, I'm presented by the Dining District of
the Bellevue Collection at Bellevue Square Center Court, live on
air on Seattle Sports.
Speaker 3 (01:12:40):
Welcome back to Hawk's Live Michael Obamas with my guy
Paul Mourria. Hey, make sure you get out to the
Belvy Collection Dining district. So many great restaurants to choose from.
Speaker 2 (01:12:50):
Today.
Speaker 3 (01:12:50):
We had our pre show meal at Dude Seafood. I
had the shrimp.
Speaker 2 (01:12:56):
It was awesome.
Speaker 5 (01:12:57):
They may because no, man, don't like fish tacos. They're
they're well. First of all, their talkers are a meal.
I mean it is.
Speaker 4 (01:13:04):
I mean it's a meal. You get two of them,
and you know sometimes they're small. So I had the
cod talk. I'm telling you go to Dukes and tell
me order the their fishtalk cod tacos. I can't remember
the other one. And if you don't think those are
the best ever, I will buy that meal.
Speaker 2 (01:13:20):
Ye you know what.
Speaker 3 (01:13:21):
And if you don't think that chowder, I say chowder
because my my uncle's from Boston and that's the way
he says that Chowda.
Speaker 2 (01:13:28):
So if you don't have that child at Boston, that's
not Boston. No my clothes.
Speaker 5 (01:13:33):
No, I thought you were down south somewhere chowda.
Speaker 2 (01:13:37):
How do they say down south Chouda.
Speaker 5 (01:13:38):
That's almost like Jersey.
Speaker 4 (01:13:41):
Yeah, same thing, New England, Boston, you know, Boston, Boston,
and then you got you got the Jersey.
Speaker 5 (01:13:49):
Anyway, we're my wife not you accidents. You're lousy.
Speaker 2 (01:13:53):
You're from Boston getting the car anyway? There you go?
All right, all right, I got it there now there
you go.
Speaker 3 (01:13:59):
Okay, perfect, all right, as long as I'm doing my
people well on the East coast.
Speaker 2 (01:14:04):
He but yeah, No, Duke's was awesome. The service is great.
Speaker 3 (01:14:07):
They have TVs lined up everywhere. You can watch the game.
Get you some good seafood. It's on point.
Speaker 4 (01:14:14):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:14:15):
So, uh, how do they win this game? More year? Like,
you're dealing with a rookie quarterback.
Speaker 3 (01:14:21):
You just signed a corner in certain who is now
the highest paid cornerback of all time.
Speaker 2 (01:14:27):
Is he gonna follow DK? Is he not?
Speaker 8 (01:14:29):
You know what?
Speaker 2 (01:14:29):
If he does, don't worry. We got three receivers.
Speaker 5 (01:14:33):
Running back.
Speaker 3 (01:14:34):
This defense is not the defense from a couple of
years ago. How do the Hawks win this game?
Speaker 4 (01:14:38):
I mean, obviously it's very differ No Russell, no Jerry Judy,
no Justin Simmons. I mean they've they've gotten rid of
a lot of players because they had to take the
hit from Russell Wilson's salary. First of all, I think
the twelves are a huge factor in this game. I mean,
it's it's got to be crazy loud, and you gotta
have Sean Payton coaching the heck out of him through
(01:15:02):
the helmet. I just think you can make them make
it uncomfortable for bow Nicks. You got to force him
to turn the ball over. You got to make this
say we're got to throw the ball downfield a little bit.
And I think we're going to match up really well.
I mean we we've got guys could play man to
man and make it really hard for bow Knicks. I
think we get after him. I just think the defense
needs to dominate and get this crowd just in a frenzy.
(01:15:26):
And you know what happens when it gets in a
frenzy and then we start getting in to that rhythm
and it's three and out and it's a turnover and
it's a three and out and we start winning the
field position battle. Now, I think that's it. It's not
rocket science. You know, you don't turn the ball over
things like that. I'm what I'm curious is is how
talented are we because you don't know in preseason, don't
(01:15:46):
pre starters long enough. Is our defensive line as good
as I think it is? Do we match up and
manned a man injury there on the shoulder as we're
watching the game, do we match up and could play
a lot of man to man which makes as a
coach your life so much easier because Sean Payton's going
to have a game plan for us, and he's gonna
(01:16:07):
have watched a lot of film last year what Baltimore did.
So how does you know that little cat and mouse
that's gonna be fun? Mcdonov' Sean Payton. You know, those
are two of the best in the business at what
they do. So yeah, I just it's a home game,
it's a rookie quarterback. I mean, we got to go
and just play unbelievable football. And I don't want it
(01:16:28):
to ste even be close.
Speaker 2 (01:16:30):
You don't want Yeah, of course we don't want it
to be close, right, I would.
Speaker 3 (01:16:34):
I would assume that McDonald has things lined up that
will confuse a rookie quarterback. The only thing that doesn't
scare me but concerns me is that bo Nicks played
sixty one games in college. He's not your average rookie.
He did play well in the preseason. Obviously, you're not
playing against ones, you're not seeing exotic blitz is, you're
(01:16:56):
not being challenged the way that you would during the
Week one.
Speaker 2 (01:17:00):
So that's gonna be the challenge to me.
Speaker 3 (01:17:02):
How does Mike McDonald's set things up so pre snap
this rookie is uncomfortable and has to get to his
back foot and rely on his training. I think that's
what you do with a rookie quarterback. You have the
opportunity week one. In Week two you got the Broncos
and then New England. You play a rookie one week
and then you play essentially a career backup in Jacoby
(01:17:23):
Brissett this second week. How is Mike McDonald going to
attack this offense and what is he gonna put on film?
I feel like it's it's easier to put things on
film as a defense and say this is what it
is because you're reacting offensively. What are you gonna put
on film? And how are you gonna build off of that?
Speaker 4 (01:17:42):
Yeah, I'm again I'm excited to see what Greb does.
I think defense, we got to make them one dimension.
You got to force bow knicks to beat you, so
you better stop that running game. And they got Javonte Williams,
who you know, good running back. They got a great
they have a very good offensive line. So it's gonna
be a talents for our defensive line where teams have
(01:18:02):
really hurt us in the past, where quarterbacks who could
scramble and run. I think we match up really well.
We have defensive lineman who can run quarterbacks down. We've
got linebackers and our speed and our secondary safety corners.
Speaker 5 (01:18:16):
Uh, they're gonna have a hard time doing that.
Speaker 4 (01:18:18):
So but you know again, I'm it's it's Sean Payton's
team now, right, no excuses for him. So he'll have
something and I think we're just going to show we
have better talents and win this game.
Speaker 3 (01:18:32):
Nice little update if you're watching Thursday night football, the
Baltimore Ravens drove down.
Speaker 2 (01:18:38):
The field and it looks like push him out of bounds.
Speaker 3 (01:18:41):
Ah likely got his toes it in the back of
the end zone to make it twenty six twenty seven.
Harball says, go for two week one, forget all this noise.
We are going in and he's wearing the Dions, so
that's gonna get always one of the Dion cleaves. Growing up,
mom and afford him. I said, don't worry about the mom.
I'll buy myself one day. That's what I did buy
(01:19:05):
him for my son.
Speaker 2 (01:19:06):
Not for me.
Speaker 3 (01:19:08):
All right, man, It's time to get out of here.
First week, Thank you, beautiful crowd. We got a kN
