You guys awake.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Now the sound system say, look, make sure you're up
because you gotta listen to Paul Moyer.
Speaker 4 (00:38):
Man, Paul, how you doing.
Speaker 5 (00:39):
I'm good. The crowd's in a better mood than last week,
that's for sure.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
That's for sure. But why is that?
Speaker 5 (00:47):
Probably because we got our butts kicked a week ago
but made amends for that this past week. And this
is a fun time right now. By the way, we
always talk about this is a great setting here at
the collection, Bellevue Collection and the holidays coming up next week,
next week's Thanksgiving crazy crazy matter fact, this started last
(01:08):
show for three weeks we got two Thursday games in
rub we got Thanksgiving, and the that following week we're
in Dallas for Thursday night again. So and actually yeah,
then the third week we're back. So glad to have.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
Everybody Paul doing that math calculating did not very quick. Hey,
it's all good, baby, Hey, but last week the Hawks
get it done twenty nine to twenty six, And it's
been weird in Seattle because you look at the win
and you go, I will take that win.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
However you can take it.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
But for some people they want to see a certain
fashion of win when it comes to the Seahawks.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
Me personally, I look at to see him.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
I go, look, mediocre offense, mediocre defense, you have a
quarterback who's figuring it out, got potential everywhere. So to
be at six and three at this point of the season,
I'm okay.
Speaker 5 (01:57):
Well, at the beginning of the year, you would say
take that all day. We're tied for first place in
the NFC West. I don't think we thought San Francisco
would take a step back losing three games in a row.
They ride the ship last week obviously against the Jaguars.
I actually thought we played pretty well last week. I
(02:17):
would even say really well last week. I didn't think
the score was indicative of how we controlled that game.
We gave up a couple of big plays, obviously defensively,
particularly in the fourth quarter, to two big drives that
you know, there was four plays and it wasn't scheme.
It wasn't that they were better than us. We dropped
(02:38):
coverage really three times, but two of them that really
hurt us. We had one drive where they got a
couple of matchups on us that weren't weren't perfect.
Speaker 6 (02:46):
But I thought we played well.
Speaker 5 (02:47):
I mean Gino Smith had a career high in passing
yards last week. I mean, who would even thunk that
at that point. So I thought we did a good
job protecting. We ran the ball well. So it was
it was a good win. This is not college football playoffs, right,
This is not the University of Washington having to have
style points against each team to make the final four.
(03:09):
This is just about wins, and this was a good
win for us. This is another game. I don't care
how we win it. We are better than the Rams.
They will talk a little bit more about them. They're
not a very good football team. That doesn't mean they're
an easy team. They scheme us. They've got good players,
but we're a better team than them if we go
out and play our kind of football.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
You scared me right now.
Speaker 6 (03:31):
I didn't mean to.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
They're not a better football team, not but they can
outschem us.
Speaker 6 (03:36):
Well, they can't.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
That's the NFL though. That's the NFL, right it is that.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Look, you might not have the guys on the d
line to compete with the offensive line, but if you
have a coach I can add some wrinkles to the
game plan, it might throw you off a little bit.
So I think that's important because at six and three,
you listen to a lot of the people who watch
the Hawks and they're frustrated.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
And you could be frustrated.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
I'm not telling you not to feel what you feel,
but you got to understand that there's some smart coaches
on the other side. And there's only about fifteen hundred
players in this league. So the gap between the best
and the worst isn't very big.
Speaker 6 (04:11):
No.
Speaker 5 (04:11):
I mean, there's Carolina is probably one team he shouldn't
lose to. They're just they're they're in such a rebuild
mode with a rookie quarterback, he can't lose those games.
Every other game you got to go and play well.
I mean, he turned the ball over three times and
don't get any from the other team. You're gonna lose
to a team that's got one or two wins in
(04:32):
this league, So you gotta go play well. The Rams
are tough because they do have very good players. I mean,
Stafford is, we could argue a potential Hall of Fame quarterback.
Speaker 6 (04:43):
He played exceptionally well.
Speaker 5 (04:44):
Versus US, you got Aaron Donald, who I still think
is you know, I don't know if he's the best
player in the league on defense, but I don't know
who's better than him. So there's a bunch of them
there in that and he's playing still at US incredibly
high level. So they've got guys. But they also have
fourteen rookies on their roster. All fourteen of their draft
(05:07):
picks made the team, you know, so most of them.
I think nine of them are fifth round and later,
so I think they were just trying to fill the roster,
lower the salary cap for them. But you know, I
think McVeigh is if he's not the best, he's one
of the very best in the NFL. At finding the
matchups He's always looking for the matchup and that always
(05:28):
makes me nervous because we usually in the pass to
play kind of a vanilla defense. We're not that same
defense anymore. We do more matchup zone defense. We do
different things in man to man. We don't play just
a four to three. You know, we have two down linemen.
We three four. I mean we mix a lot of
different formations in there too.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
Something that stood out to me last week, DK Medcalf,
Tyler Lockett and js and combined for nineteen receptions two
hundred and forty three yards in one touchdown last week.
The best performers we've gotten out of these three man.
I think this is something that we've been looking forward to.
Jasin comes into the season, he gets banged up, breaks
his risks or a bone, and his risks after scoring
(06:09):
a touchdown in the preseason. You have DK lots of
targets and not a lot of receptions, and then you
have Tyler Lockett, who's mister consistent. If these three can
continue to play at this level, what does that mean?
Speaker 5 (06:22):
Well, the thing I liked about last week is they
were productive, but we didn't lose.
Speaker 6 (06:27):
Sight of our tight ends and our running backs.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
Either.
Speaker 5 (06:30):
So I thought from a balance standpoint, the way we
spread the ball around was one of our best this year.
And you're right, Look, we were an eleven personnel offense. Right,
it's one tight end, one running back, three wide receivers.
That's what we're going to feature. But we also saw
a lot of three tight ends in the game. We
saw a lot of two tight ends in the game.
(06:52):
They mixed it up a bunch. We actually saw a
couple checkdowns in the middle of the field. One went
for the big touchdown to DK and so I just
thought it was a really good game plan for us.
And I thought Gino played obviously in the second half,
particularly the fourth quarter, probably his best game.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
Yeah, look at Gino in the fourth quarter or just
the last two drives, right, go nine for ten, one touchdown,
you set up the game winning field goal. I don't
think people realize he has thirteen game winning drives in
sixty starts.
Speaker 4 (07:24):
Yeah, that's pretty good.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
I think the numbers come out to, what twenty seven
percent of the time, he's twenty one percent of the
time he's leading his team to a game winning drive.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
What does that say about Gino?
Speaker 3 (07:36):
Because I think that we look at Gino, and we
see him as a top ten pick.
Speaker 4 (07:40):
For some reason. That's not what he was.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
Second round pick, bad time with the Jets, and now
he's doing this thing here, not having the season that
he had last year, but he's still playing.
Speaker 6 (07:51):
Some good football looks.
Speaker 5 (07:52):
It's more of the touchdown to interception ratio. You know,
he had a you know, two or three game stretch
where you know, turn the ball over a few times.
That's not who Gino is though. You go and watch
some of his throws the first time we played the Rams,
you go, oh, man, he's really accurate.
Speaker 6 (08:09):
I mean, he is an accurate thrower.
Speaker 5 (08:11):
So I just felt like he got back on track.
And you know, for Gino, sometimes it's you know, do
I not turn it over? Do I, you know, try
and make the tough throw. You got to make tough
throws in a sleek you know. I mean, you can't
just always go back to pass and look to your left,
and sometimes you got to say that guy's covered. I
still got to make make the tough throw, and he's
(08:32):
more than capable of it. So I think he's kind
of balancing that out of don't turn it over, but
also I got to make some big time throws here.
You know, I think last week one of the things.
Speaker 6 (08:43):
You know, there's a.
Speaker 5 (08:43):
Lot of pauses in that game, and it's important we
had that right. You know, there's a few things it
will be interesting going into this week.
Speaker 6 (08:50):
I have not seen this.
Speaker 5 (08:51):
Last week, Washington targeted their tight ends and running backs
twenty one times and completed twenty of them twenty And
that's on our linebackers and safeties. And I guarantee that
McVeigh has seen that and he's gonna work that. And
if that is what is potentially our weakness and past defense,
(09:14):
we're gonna see more of that.
Speaker 6 (09:15):
So I'm curious to see what the.
Speaker 5 (09:16):
Rams do and more point, how we match up.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
Yeah, I think the Rams will do exactly that. The
last two stars that Matthew Starford has had, sixty seven
percent of his passes are ten yards in underneath, and
a lot of them are to the left and to
the right right outside. The number is something that you
wish the Hawks what forced the Niners.
Speaker 4 (09:37):
To do when it comes to throwing the football.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
But Matthew Stafford has all the tools to complete every
single throw.
Speaker 4 (09:44):
So that's what concerns me a little bit.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
We saw Pooka Nicola first week in the league, balls out,
and now you have Cooper Cup as well. Higbee the
tight end hasn't had the greatest season, but we know
the capabilities of him. So yeah, I mean it's gonna
be a good one. I'm excited to see exactly what
these guys do.
Speaker 6 (10:02):
Yeah, McVeigh.
Speaker 5 (10:04):
Unlike the forty nine ers who just live inside the numbers, right,
McVeigh creates some really tough routes. I mean they're difficult routes,
and you know they will work outside the numbers a lot,
and and you know, certainly Stafford's capable of making those throws.
I love the matchup with their wide receivers and our
defensive backs. I think Trey Brown, Witherspoon, and Wooln are
(10:28):
the three best tandem.
Speaker 6 (10:30):
Tandem is that the right word?
Speaker 5 (10:32):
A trio of of corners in the league and they're
playing at a high level. So I'd love that matchup.
You know, we got no, no, don't don't.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
Get too deep into the man, because I got we
gotta save some of that, all right.
Speaker 4 (10:46):
Just coming up next, we're gonna dive into the Seahawks.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
We can have an opponent that los Angeles Rams, where
Greg beats them from the ap That is next right
here on Hawks Live.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
Hawks Live presented by the Dining District of the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Squares Center Court, live on air on
Seattle Sports.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
What's so, What's up?
Speaker 3 (11:09):
You're listening to Hawkslade presented by the Dining just That
Got the ballby Collection every Thursday.
Speaker 4 (11:14):
Right here, Me and my guy Paul Moyer are doing
what we're doing right now.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
We're joined by Greg beacham the Associated Press.
Speaker 4 (11:20):
What's up?
Speaker 3 (11:20):
Greg?
Speaker 4 (11:21):
How you doing him good?
Speaker 7 (11:23):
Paul has it going?
Speaker 4 (11:24):
We're doing okay? Man? Where you know what? I got
to keep it one hundred with you, man.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
Whenever we line up with the Rams, no matter what
the records are, no matter what the stats say, we
know it's going to be a good game. You guys
sitting at three and six? Is that the same feeling?
Speaker 7 (11:40):
I think the Rams would be happy if it was
a good game at this point. They are having a
little more trouble than the Seahawks are at this point
in this season. And it's definitely a great rivalry. I
love these games. You know, there's a lot of crossover
on both teams. I mean everything from Bobby Wagner to Yakimasone,
Cooper Cup to everything in between. There's always a good
rivalry angle to this series. But I think the Seahawks
(12:01):
are in a little bit better for the season to
get a little revenge for Week one than the Rams
are to make it a season sweep. Let's put it
that way.
Speaker 5 (12:08):
Well, rumor has it that Matthew Stafford is coming back.
Speaker 6 (12:12):
It just is that what you're hearing or what we like.
Speaker 7 (12:15):
He'll be back. Yeah, he'll be back and throwing in practice.
Unless he has a major setback in the next for
eight hours, he'll be in there.
Speaker 6 (12:21):
All right. Well, everybody here's just cross our fingers.
Speaker 5 (12:24):
He's gonna have a major setback because the last time
we played him, he really was unbelievable, made some amazing throws.
We know what kind of quarterback he is. We didn't
have Cup the last time we played, but we didn't
have Witherspoon.
Speaker 6 (12:38):
Look, they give us problem, they give us problems.
Speaker 5 (12:41):
But the one thing I do see offensively that even
in the Packer game, man, the offensive line just looks
like they're struggling.
Speaker 6 (12:50):
What's going on with that?
Speaker 7 (12:52):
You're one hundred percent correct it's a it's a lot
on the tackles to the middle of the line is
fairly strong. All these because there they got a couple
of pretty good guard Steve ab Aloud, that rookie is
looking really good, has n't come off the field at
all this season. Kevin Dotson's been playing great since they
picked him up from Pittsburgh, and Coleman Shelton the pretty
good center. The tackles are the problem, and that's where
the Seahawks have the best chance to exploit what what
(13:15):
the Rams do wrong. They've got Aleric Jackson a left
tackle because he beat out Joe Noteboom, who is the
guy they're paying to be their left tackle in training camp,
and Alaric's he obviously knows what he's doing, but I
don't think anybody would would argue that he's an elite
left tackle at this point. And at right tackle, they've
got Rob Havenstein venturing the you know, the longest serving
guy there on the line, but he has been pobably injury.
(13:35):
He missed the game in uh in Green Bay, and
you could see that, you know, with the guys they
used to replace him, it didn't go so well. And
he's supposed to come back this week. He has been
limited in practice, though a little bit less practicing than
we thought would get from him. But he's supposed to
come back. If he does, you know, he's he's a
competent left tackle. But if he's less than one hundred percent,
or if they have to use somebody else, that's that's
(13:56):
the place for the Seahawks to pounce. And that's the
that's the biggest weakness in this rams off right now.
You're absolutely correct, Greg.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
I'm a former receiver, so I love some receiver play.
Minus week one, you open a week one Pooka Nicola
says like, don't forget about me, fifth round draft pick.
Speaker 4 (14:13):
B y you you dub.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
He's got me all concerned, man, But he's continued to
be productive. Man, Is this what you expected out of Pooka?
I mean all of the sad because no one was
ready for this.
Speaker 7 (14:26):
I don't think anyone expected this out of Pookah, including Puka.
I mean, it's it's been remarkable the impact he's had
on this offense in his first opportunity. And part of
that is a credit to playing, you know, with Matthew Stafford,
who is an excellent quarterback who can get to the
ball all day long when he's healthy, and he has
an offensive line that can keep him off his back.
And part of it the credit to play in for
Sean McVay, who can dial up all sorts of stuff
(14:46):
to torment a defense, to make the most of a
guy's skill set. Cooper Cup's entire career as a testament
to da Cooper is a great receiver, but he would
he would be the first to say that he's a
better receiver because Sean McVay has been called plays for
him for six years. But having said that, Puoka, you know,
has demonstrated his own ability and things that he can
do that I don't think anybody really knew when they
drafted him. He was the last receiver drafted in the
(15:08):
fifth round of the draft. He was he was the
twentieth receiver overall in the draft. The final pick of
the fifth round is just is mind bogging at this
point considering what he's shown out there on the field.
Having said that, he's played a little less, little less
impactful the previous two weeks before the buye he is
not one hundred percent. He's been beating up a little bit.
Sean talked about that earlier this week. How just the
cumulative you know, bumps and bruises of an NFL season,
(15:30):
particularly when you're a rookie of the high profile now
where everybody's looking to get a lick on you, everybody's
looking to make a statement against you when they when
they line up against you a one on one coverage.
And he only has three catches in each of the
last two games, so he's going to have to find
dig down deep inside and find find, you know, the
way to finish a seventeen game season strong, which is
tough for any rookie. It's tough for Puka, especially because
(15:52):
you know this is just coming from from something to
nothing and nothing to something. And once he gets out
there and can show what he can do down the stretch,
that's when you really prove yourself and separate yourself as
a player. So I'll be I'll be really curious see
how he does. And this is this last eight game
stretch of the season. But it's been tremendous so far.
It's been really fun to watch.
Speaker 5 (16:10):
Well stay on the offensive side. And an interesting storyline
is the Seahawks just signed Brett Ripponrett Brett Rippon, who
was a starting quarterback the last time the Rams played,
which was two weeks ago, they had a bye week,
and I'm to be honest, I go, I watched the game,
and man, you know, the offensive line really struggled, struggled
against the Packers, and Brett had a couple bad plays,
(16:33):
But by no means was that loss on him. One
were you surprised that happened? And two were even more
surprised and had that whole thing went down with Carson
Wentz now being the backup quarterback for the Rams, I.
Speaker 7 (16:47):
Wasn't too surprised because they didn't go into this season
expecting Brett Rippan to be that to be their QB two.
They thought stets Of Bennett was going to be their
QB two, and they'd spent the entire offseason preparing Stetson
for that role. And Brett was, you know, a guy
who was going to come in and help out, be
the third arm in practice and maybe you know, get
an opportunity down the road in garbage time or if
they had that one of the quarterbacks got injured or something,
(17:08):
he would move up. So, you know, Stepson has not
been able to play this year. He's he's away from
the team and he's probably not going to play this year.
And the way Sean explained their decision to only go
with Matthew Stafford and Brett Rippen was that they felt
like they needed to use the roster spot on other
holes in the roster, and to be fair, this roster
does have a lot of holes after everything they did
in the offseason, so that that's why he did that.
(17:29):
And then they got caught in a situation where Matthew
got hurt. You could argue that they should have thought
of that since Matthew missed half of last season and
they got an offensive line that is probably not going
to keep any quarterback healthy for an entire year. That
wasn't too hard to see. But having said that, they
ended up having to play Brett. They thought they would
go into that game, you know, right before the buy
in Green Bay, it's going to be raining, it's going
to be miserable. Nobody's going to really show out in
(17:49):
that game unless they're really special. And I think they
just thought they'd see what they could do with Brett,
and it didn't go well at all. You know, he's
he's in the rain, he's fumbling the ball. It's tough.
And not to say that he's not a compotit quarterback,
because he absolutely is. But that's just a really tough
situation to go into, you know, and make your first
significant playing time of the year. And you know, Carson
Wentz was a guy who was available, and I think,
(18:09):
I think, I think it was a good match between
the two of them because you know, he's halfway through
the NFL season. Now, you don't want to sit out
an entire season, if you're still serious about being a
football player, you don't want to take a year off
and try to come back. And the Rams offered himself.
I mean, if you could, you could say, you know,
maybe you're hung aroun a little bit longer. The Cleveland
Browns might have come knocking, But you don't know that
for sure. You don't know what situation it would be.
And he took an opportunity to take the same deal
(18:30):
that you know, Baker Mayfield took. The other quarterbacks have
come in here and proven that they can do stuff,
and Sean McVay has been has been a good a
good co worker for quarterbacks in order to maximize their potential.
Jared Goff, Matthew Stafford. You know Baker Mayfield, and I
think Carson Wentz saw this as an opportunity that he
could he could stay relevant and know that he's one
(18:51):
hit away from playing again with with some pretty good
receivers on this on this Rams team. So I don't
blame him for taking it. I kind of fault the
Rams for waiting so long to find a backup poor
But now that they've done it, I think they're in
a better position to go forward for the final eight games.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
All right, Greg, we got about thirty seconds here. I
just want to ask you, like, what do you think
is the advantage the Rams have on the seahoffs. So
you look at the numbers, look at the personnel, you say, look,
this should be.
Speaker 4 (19:15):
A good game.
Speaker 3 (19:15):
We expect it to be a good game. But where
is the advantage for the Rams?
Speaker 7 (19:21):
Most games this season and this one is no exception.
I think the Rams have to score a ton of
points to win. I think they should put up a
bunch of points. That defense is trying really hard, but
they are seriously under talented given all the personnel changes
they made and the people that they chose to put
in there. So I think I think the Rams have
an advantage of Stafford is healthy. I think they if
they can keep him up right, if they can keep
a big cat off him, if they can keep the
rest of the pass rush off him, I think I
(19:43):
think they have a chance to throw the ball down
the field. You know, get Hoo, can involved, get Cooper Cup,
put up a big game. They got some decent running
game here and there in the last few weeks. If
they can score a bunch of points and make it
a close game down the stretch, they have a chance
to pull one out. Otherwise, if the Seahawks can get
on top early, if Seahawks get out of ahead and
start playing with the lead, it's gonna be rough there
for the boys and the horned helmet.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
All right, Greg, we know how this goes, though. I'll
just expect to clas all right, man, we appreciate your time, Bro.
Speaker 7 (20:12):
You have a good day, take care of a good night,
all right.
Speaker 4 (20:15):
All right, that's Greg Beacham the A p A.

We had you here live last year and a lot
is changed in your life since then. Man, I believe
you're married. Now you've you've been playing a lot of golf.
What's that handicap like these days?
Speaker 8 (21:18):
Man, Well, these days it's not as good as it
was over the summer. It got her down to a
seven seven this offseason, which is my career.
Speaker 4 (21:27):
Love, so ended on a high note.
Speaker 6 (21:30):
No congratulations.
Speaker 5 (21:31):
I'm that one guy who follows you on all of
your social media on x and Instagram, and I'm just jealous.
I saw you down at Pebble Beach and you were
traveling pretty much the country, playing every single golf of
course you could. So we'll stay on the golf park
because the last time we had you on you said
at the time you could not beat your fiance who
(21:54):
she played by the way at Alabama.
Speaker 6 (21:55):
She was a.
Speaker 5 (21:56):
Golfer, and now you're married. Congratulations, Thank you very much.
Have you beat her yet in golf?
Speaker 8 (22:04):
I have not. Unfortunately, I know I've gotten close, but
it seems like even when it's close, I always end
up losing by at least one. So maybe one of
these days I'll I'll finally beat here.
Speaker 5 (22:15):
You're gonna start having to yell on her backswing or something.
Speaker 8 (22:19):
Oh man, I do everything I can't shake.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
We were actually talking about you over dinner, Kobe and
uh morigos Man, it'd be tough to have a wife
who plays golf and I go what you know, you
get get tips and lessons, but she might have to
ride in the other golf court every now and then
because I don't.
Speaker 4 (22:35):
I don't want to. I don't want to ride whatever
she's beat me. But uh, let's talk some football, man.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
I mean, you guys are six and three, the same
spot you guys were in last year and have overcome
a lot.
Speaker 4 (22:47):
Man. And when I think of this team, I think
of resiliency.
Speaker 3 (22:50):
When you think of this team and you describe this
team to someone who hasn't seen you guys play, like, how.
Speaker 4 (22:54):
Would you do that?
Speaker 8 (22:56):
Yeah? I like the word resiliency. Like you said, you know,
there's no quit who had definitely been Uh, it's been close.
It feels like every game, you know, and we went
back against the wall and it's a two minute draft
to win the game. We don't get, you know, any
doubt in our mind and we just go out there
and do our thing and win the game.
Speaker 5 (23:16):
Colby, you guys have so much talent, uh, you know,
at the receiver position, at the tight end position, at
the running back position. Man, you can't get all of
them in at at the same time obviously, and you know,
fighting for you know, personnel groupings.
Speaker 6 (23:31):
And playing time.
Speaker 5 (23:33):
How is that?
Speaker 6 (23:34):
I mean, is that frustrating?
Speaker 5 (23:36):
I mean you guys, are you guys still a pretty
cohesive group?
Speaker 9 (23:41):
Uh?
Speaker 8 (23:41):
Yeah, I think we're all very supportive of each other.
You know, there's a ton of playmakers on the team
and we all want to get our chance to you know,
catch the ball and do something with it. But more
importantly than that, we want to win the game. And
I think that's a common thread amongst the entire team,
and that leads to successful cohesive units.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
How's it been for the the tight end group being
run blockers? Now, you're typically a run blocker on the
edge of the line of scrimmers, but there's some times
where we see two tight ends in the backfield. You
guys emotioning and I would I would assume trying to
decipher man or zone. Just what's that like for you,
because I doubt you did those type of schemes in college.
Speaker 8 (24:22):
Yeah, Shane draws up a lot of cool ways to
use this in the run game, and it's it's fun.
You know, it's cool being moved around a lot, and
you know, presenting different looks to the defense and makes
it tough for them to decipher what we're doing, and
it leads to a lot of good opportunities for us
to you know, break canner zak or DJ loose and
you know, get some big games.
Speaker 5 (24:43):
You guys, you guys play next week on Thursday Night
against the forty nine ers, and you'll play them again
a few weeks later, which is different in how you
guys game plan. But you had the Rams literally nine
weeks ago with the buye. How much different are they
and how much different is the game plan? And you
(25:06):
don't have to get specifics, but just going into this game.
Speaker 8 (25:10):
Uh yeah, you know, we were also a very different
offense and we we're a week one. You know, I
don't think we came out to start of the season
the way we wanted to. So going into this game,
you know where I think we're starting to kind of
you know, figure out and hit our stride as an offense,
and that's gonna lead to a lot of success, I
believe on Sunday, you know, I think we're still searching,
you know, for the perfect game where we're clicking on
(25:31):
all cylinders. We've had glimpses of it on different drives
within a game, and now we're just trying to put
it all together.
Speaker 3 (25:39):
Kolobe, this could have an easy answer, but you know
I've been associated with the Hawks is eight. My guy
Moyer has been here a little before me, and no
matter how you put it, the Rams always give the
Seahawks some trouble, right. Is that something that you guys
(25:59):
talk about out or knowledge or are you just focused
on the day and know where they pay attention to
all that noise?
Speaker 8 (26:05):
Yeah, I mean we can't really focus on what's happened
in years past. Let we just take it one game
at a time, and like Pete always says, it's all
about us. You know, we control the outcome of the game.
Obviously they're going to make their plays, but if we
play well, we don't think anyone can sern it our way.
Speaker 5 (26:22):
You mentioned that you guys are still searching for that
perfect game. What does that look like from your offense
and what you guys are trying to do.
Speaker 8 (26:31):
Yeah, I think it's mitigating a lot of negative plays.
I think we've had a lot of penalties and and
portion poor timing, you know, where it knocks us back
into a you know, first and long second along where
we're on our fields already and not stalling. You know,
I think we have. We've had a couple of three
and outs and that's just that's across the board. Accountability.
(26:52):
You know, we all got to be better, We got
to execute better, do our job better. And I think
if you get rid of those uh you know, in
tours the middle of the game, I think we'll be
able to, you know, put up a lot more points
and have some more success.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
Hey Kolby, there was a personnel package when I was playing.
Speaker 4 (27:13):
When they threw up the E, I knew that I
was in the game, right extra receiver.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
Now you guys have a thirteen personnel group where all
you guys are out there at one time. What's that like?
Do you guys talk about that? Do you get excited
when you when you hear the personnel group? You guys
run out there or are there? Or is it just
a business as usual let's go get it.
Speaker 8 (27:33):
No, it's exciting. You know. I love when we're all
out there together, especially when you know we can one
of us catches the ball and all three of us
are on the field. It's fun and we're able to
celebrate each other out there. It's definitely cool experience, and
you know, we want more thirteen plays, so we're excited
to make the ones that we get work and hopefully
get more in the next week.
Speaker 5 (27:52):
Well, as we mentioned last time we talked with you
last year, you were engaged now you've been out here
a couple of years.
Speaker 6 (27:59):
Now you're mayor worried.
Speaker 5 (28:00):
What's uh, what's life like that for you?
Speaker 6 (28:02):
Has it changed?
Speaker 5 (28:03):
Particularly on your downtime after you get home from practice.
Speaker 8 (28:09):
It's amazing. You know, my wife is awesome. I'm so
thankful to be able to come home to her every
day and you know, look forward to that after a
long day at the office, you know, body sore or whatever.
It's it's great to be able to come home and
reset and have a have a nice perspective on life
on football. And she helps reset that a lot and
focus on the Lord and you know what's important to us.
Speaker 6 (28:32):
Amen to that.
Speaker 5 (28:33):
And you know there's a lot of top golf places
around here. Uh, do you guys get a chance at
all to go hit a few golf balls or you know,
just to get a little bit of your swing and
keep that in the rhythm.
Speaker 4 (28:47):
We try to.
Speaker 8 (28:48):
We actually have a simulator in the or in the
place where we're living, and it's not it's not mine.
Don't worry.
Speaker 10 (28:54):
Okay, twenty five on a on a golf simulator yet,
but we're able to swing swing every now and then,
and it's nice to be able to share that together.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
What's it like for you the second year in the league.
There's a obviously you have three teams that you're gonna
play twice a year. I know when I play, you
build a kind of relationships with the guys that you're
playing against.
Speaker 4 (29:18):
Have you developed any.
Speaker 3 (29:19):
Of those relationships, like a guy like, all right, there's
a d M. There's an outside backer that I'm going
to go up against. We talk a little crap every
now and then. You have those relationships or you kind
of just.
Speaker 4 (29:28):
Run the play, get to the huddle, you know.
Speaker 8 (29:32):
I definitely you know, you played these guys, like you said,
twice here, so you know here you're going up against
you know, all right, this is rams week. You know
they're gonna run a three four the fifty one penny,
like you know exactly what to expect, and you definitely
know the personnel pretty well too. So it's fun being
able to play them, you know, twice a year, and
we'll have to get them back for a week one.
Speaker 5 (29:50):
Kobe, it's amazing. There's eight games left in the season.
You know, collweg has got two games in the regular
season left.
Speaker 6 (29:58):
How's your body feeling.
Speaker 8 (30:01):
Yeah, I'm hanging in. They're doing doing pretty good for
this time of the year. You know, it's a long season.
Like you said, we're only halfway, which is pretty crazy.
But body's feeling good and you know, I'm ready to
tackle this weekend, ready to get after it.
Speaker 3 (30:15):
All right, Colby, Man, we appreciate your time.
Speaker 4 (30:18):
You're a newlywed.
Speaker 3 (30:20):
Moawyer's got about thirty years in the game, four thirty four.
I got like fifteen in the game. So enjoy the ride. Brother, man.
It's going to beautiful.
Speaker 4 (30:30):
Man. We appreciate you time.
Speaker 8 (30:31):
Awesome, Thank you so much, guys, I really appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (30:33):
God bless all right.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
That was Colby Parkinson. When we return, Man, we'll go
around the NFL. What's going down. We have a Thursday
night football game. Baltimore Ravens are up twenty four to
thirteen over the Bengals. We'll talk about that and more.
That's next right here on Hawks Live.
Speaker 1 (30:51):
Hawkss Live presented by the Dining District of the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Square Center Court Live on air on
Seattle's Sport.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
Welcome Back to Hawks Slide presented by the Dining Just
You Got the Belvy Collection On Michael Bumbas with Paul
Moyer every Thursday right here and see how to sport
sevent ten.
Speaker 4 (31:10):
We'll be doing our thing from Belvy Square Center Court.
Speaker 3 (31:13):
Now it's time to go around the NFL and just
an update. Ravens are up twenty seven to thirteen against
the Cincinnati Bengals in the third quarter.
Speaker 4 (31:22):
It's about to come to an end. This is a
weird The.
Speaker 3 (31:26):
NFC North, our AFC North is a weird thing going
on right there right because the Hawks, they beat the Browns,
lose to the Bengals, lose to the Ravens. Ravens are
about to beat the Bengals, and the Bengals beat the Ravens.
I want to say last week, there's a lot going
on over there. That's why I don't like people saying, well,
(31:48):
they beat them, and they beat them, so we should
be fine.
Speaker 4 (31:52):
No, this NFL, you gotta show up. Ye.
Speaker 5 (31:53):
The NFL is again. It's a hard game. There's a
lot of smart coaches. You know, they're going to force
you to do things you don't want to do eventually,
and that's why you can go and beat Baltimore, beat
US thirty seven to three, and then lose the following
week and then come back and look really good. Now,
the one thing, Joe Burrow looks like he either broke
(32:16):
his hand.
Speaker 6 (32:17):
Yeah, or it's terrible bruise.
Speaker 5 (32:19):
I mean, his hand was swollen and he ended up
going into the locker room. He I mean, he couldn't
throw a football anymore. I thought it initially. I thought
he grabbed his forearm, which a lot of times is
that elbow in UCL Yeah, thank you, But hopefully it's
just a bad bruise because without him, you know, Cincinnati's done.
Speaker 3 (32:39):
Yeah, that's tough man. He's already battled back from a
calf injury. And then as soon he gets healthy. As
he gets healthy, the team looks good. And then it
hurts to see him go down that way. Something happened
this week got the Bills take a loss. Yeah, and
the offense looks okay minus the quarterback turning the football
over like crazy, and they had a chance to win
(33:01):
this ball game against the Denver Broncos. And then Denver
kicks the field goal. They push it to the right,
kind of like what my drive looks like off the
T box.
Speaker 4 (33:09):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (33:10):
Half of the time, Mulligan, you know, Mully lineupta. So
then they get an opportunity to do it again because.
Speaker 4 (33:19):
They are twelve men on the field.
Speaker 3 (33:21):
Broncos kick the field goal game over, Broncos win.
Speaker 4 (33:25):
In my head, I'm thinking.
Speaker 3 (33:26):
Oh, special teams guys fired, No, sir, offensive coordinator was fired.
Speaker 4 (33:31):
What do you think about that situation?
Speaker 5 (33:33):
Well, my first thing is they're head coach McDermott. I'm
thinking he should be fired. I go, you're the one
responsible for that. And here's another thing, what are you doing?
Denver did not call a time out right, and so
they they schemed them hard, and they knew they had
enough time. Their offense ran off the field, got the
(33:53):
special team or field goal team ready, they run on
the field. That's a substitution you're allowed to match and
at that point too, but with that much time, make
kip your defense out there. You're not even bringing in
that many different people. That is such a I mean, god,
they bought this.
Speaker 3 (34:12):
This was his explanation. They said they were in a
dime package. So then when you bring on the field
goal team, there's a substitution that needs to happen, which
makes sense because I have two extra dbs out there.
But he said himself they practice that situation and did
not execute in that moment.
Speaker 6 (34:28):
So whose fault is that?
Speaker 4 (34:30):
It's always on the head, it's the head coach.
Speaker 5 (34:32):
I'm going to fire the offensive coordinator. Look, it's obviously
wasn't one game. Josh Allen's not playing well. He's turning
the ball over a bunch. I mean that was you know,
he's having a bit of his hot college flashback. We
wasn't that accurate turn the ball over. We knew he's
really a phenomenal athlete with an unbelievable arm. You feel
(34:56):
like they're five and five or many of the five
and four, whatever the wreck it is.
Speaker 6 (35:00):
It's not what everybody thought.
Speaker 5 (35:02):
That's a really talented football team, particularly offensive, and they
got skilled positions off the board. You know, you're talking
about one of the top three, you know five, I
guess quarterbacks in the NFL. McDermott. You know, he pulled
the trigger quick. You know, I've come from people that said, hey,
you spend a long time hiring and you're quick to fire,
you know, because if you waste time, if it's not
(35:23):
the right person, don't waste time on that. Get rid
of him. And he maybe he just felt he wasn't the.
Speaker 4 (35:29):
Right guy felt that pressure?
Speaker 3 (35:31):
Yeah, kind of like the pressure USC felt after they
lost the game. He has to get rid of their
defensive coordinator. And then I go, look, they still going
and give up forty points of games when he's out
of here. Might as well let him finish the season.
But that's the pressure people get, right. They want to
see changes made. So you find the lowest man on
the totem pole probably and say, look, all.
Speaker 4 (35:53):
Right, we're gonna get rid of him. All right.
Speaker 3 (35:55):
There's a situation going on in Minnesota which I'm really
impressed by.
Speaker 4 (35:59):
Josh Dobbs has.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
Taken over that team and kept the Minnesota Vikings in contention.
Speaker 4 (36:04):
Now, I've never.
Speaker 3 (36:06):
Been traded or anything like that when it comes to
the NFL, and I feel like as a receiver it's
a bit easier to hop into an offense and say, okay, QB,
what I got. I got a post? Okay, I'll run
that post. As a quarterback, you got to know what
everyone's doing. You got to be able to protect yourself
on the offensive line, put your running back in the
right position, and then go through your progressions. When it
(36:28):
comes to throwing the football, I'm talking about Josh Dobbs
over there. Now, I know he is a rocket scientist,
yes she is, and he's one of the smartest men
in the NFL. But that still makes what he's done
with the Minnesota Vikings impressive.
Speaker 11 (36:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (36:42):
I mean, you know, I've read some things that you
know he's got a borderline photographic memory too. And you know, look,
you're in the league. You know what an offense is, right,
I mean, he called play. There's only so many things
you can do, but you got to know what everybody's doing.
I mean, that's the hard part for the quarterback. I've
been in a situation, the toughest situation I've ever been
(37:05):
in is my last year coaching, and I was in
the meeting room. It was our last game of the season.
We're playing Cleveland in Cleveland, so we got to travel early.
We got a flat on a Friday. The eight guys
I had that started the season as defensive backs, every
single one of them.
Speaker 6 (37:22):
Was on IR.
Speaker 5 (37:23):
I had sixteen guys in the room in the meeting
room because you had to still go to the meeting sixteen.
I mean, it was crazy. I brought three guys in
on Wednesday, and I did not know I literally I
was on the phone. One of our other guys who
had been with us for a couple weeks got hurt.
So I now had to put in the guy who
came in on Wednesday. I go, hey, put so and
(37:45):
so number thirty thirty two. I mean, I didn't know.
And then we're trying to run a blitz and he
doesn't know the blitz, and so now we're like, okay,
we can't blitz.
Speaker 6 (37:54):
We can really run two coverages.
Speaker 5 (37:56):
And Claire Farnsworth, you remember Claire Farnes were a long
time sports.
Speaker 6 (38:01):
Beat writer for the for the Seahawks.
Speaker 5 (38:03):
He remembers me running in the locker room and I
didn't remember the names of two of the guys that go, hey,
you and you come with me because I needed to
try to coach him up before practice.
Speaker 6 (38:16):
Huh yeah, I was. Uh that was wild.
Speaker 5 (38:18):
And and how do you think that game went?
Speaker 4 (38:21):
Probably lost?
Speaker 6 (38:22):
Not very well.
Speaker 4 (38:25):
It was pretty bad.
Speaker 6 (38:26):
Impressive.
Speaker 5 (38:27):
Now, the other part of the story is the Broncos
are playing them. The Broncos have what won two three
games in a row as now they're they're in the playoff,
and even though they look horrible, they had no business
even being in the game with Buffalo.
Speaker 6 (38:40):
Buffalo gave it to him.
Speaker 4 (38:41):
Why not?
Speaker 5 (38:42):
They just they look horrible. But you know, Russell's playing
pretty well. He's got eighteen touchdowns, you know, four interceptions. Uh,
that one pass, I mean, I don't know whether he
meant to throw it there.
Speaker 6 (38:53):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (38:53):
It was a greater catch than it was to that spot.
I mean, I'm just saying it was an incredible catch.
Speaker 4 (39:00):
You sound like a hater right now.
Speaker 5 (39:01):
No, No, it was an incredible catch. And he's doing
his little flip stuff. No, he played well. The team
didn't play well. That the Denver is not a good
football team. No, but now you're playing Minnesota with Joshua Dobbs.
At some point, the Cinderella story probably ends.
Speaker 3 (39:21):
All right, So what's the bigger story, Russell Wilson extending
that streak to four wins over Dobbs or Dobbs continuing
the Cinderella story.
Speaker 5 (39:33):
Probably well for for us up here, probably Denver, for
the national media, probably Dobbs. I don't think we're haters,
but I'm certainly not rooting for Denver.
Speaker 4 (39:45):
I'm not a hater.
Speaker 6 (39:46):
No, but are you rooting for him?
Speaker 4 (39:47):
You sound like are you?
Speaker 6 (39:48):
But are you rooting for him?
Speaker 4 (39:50):
I did the other night.
Speaker 6 (39:51):
Are you rooting for him?
Speaker 4 (39:52):
I did? Yeah, I root for Russell? Are you right now?
Speaker 3 (39:55):
Now that there's nothing, we're not tied in any way anyway,
I'll root.
Speaker 4 (40:01):
For Russell all right. Yeah, he's been humbled, he hasn't
been humble. That's why I root for him. Now, if
you have success over there, i'd be a hater just
like like me. I'll just play with you.
Speaker 3 (40:12):
Hey, man, come join us here at Hawks Live at
Belvy Squares in the court. You have a chance to
win gift cars from the dining district at the Bellby
collection tonight they're giving away gift cars. The Duke, Seafood

Speaker 6 (40:28):
It was really good. What did I have that?
Speaker 5 (40:29):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (40:30):
I know it.
Speaker 5 (40:30):
I had the prawns and then the deviled eggs, and
then I had the burger.
Speaker 6 (40:36):
But I didn't eat the burger. But I ate all
your guys just leftover.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
All our leftovers. Yeah, I'm basic bacon cheeseburger right here
for your boy.
Speaker 4 (40:43):
Don't do seafood all right?

Speaker 11 (41:32):
A little bit. I kind of got into video games
when were younger, so I still stick around with.
Speaker 4 (41:36):
A little bit. You get that new call of duty yet?
Speaker 6 (41:39):
Nah?
Speaker 4 (41:39):
Yeah? My son sticking to man and two K.
Speaker 3 (41:43):
My son trying to He's like, Dad, I gotta get
the new call of duty that goo man take up
the trash.
Speaker 4 (41:46):
Couple of time you might be able to hearn that,
you know what I mean? So I gotta earn it.
Speaker 6 (41:51):
Man.
Speaker 3 (41:52):
So you're from Mississippi, man, I got I got family
from Mississippi and we're talking off air. Uh, what is
it about the Mississippi player? Because I can talk about
Callie it's finesse. You know, we put out quarterbacks, receivers, dbs,
but down in the South many y'all put them big
boys out And what is it about football down there?
Speaker 11 (42:09):
I think there's the toughness in general. You know, a
Mississippi person is at a naturally tough person. You know,
guys are naturally big out there.
Speaker 4 (42:19):
Due to the food.
Speaker 11 (42:20):
Of course, we do a lot of hard label, so
pretty strong. So that's mostly what a Missisi player A
little like that.
Speaker 5 (42:28):
Well, and we were talking, there's quite a few Seahawks
that grew up in Mississippi. I mean, kJ we had
Derek call earlier. Who's the other one, Oh, Jared Reed? Yeah,
that's pretty good, mephic. Jared went to a junior college.
And I was reading your ear bio that you almost
went to a junior college, but Mississippi State came maybe
(42:49):
late uh and offered you a scholarship. Talk about just
that process out of high school.
Speaker 11 (42:53):
Yeah, well, actually the Mississippi State off me in ten grade.
I wanted to commit there, but Damn Mully had signed
went to Florida, so I kind of opened my recruiting
process back up. Still wanted to go to Missippi State.
I kind of wanted to get recruited again by the
new coach that came in, Coach more Head. So I
told them that I'll be willing to go juco and
(43:14):
just to get a whole recruiting process with them again.
And like, I took an official visit another with more Head,
so I kind of fell in love with the school
all over again and decided to go there.
Speaker 3 (43:28):
So you can call a penalty on every play in
football if you really wanted to. It's always penalties, right.
I would imagine you get held a lot by every
place every play.
Speaker 4 (43:41):
Right, it's just either they catched or now.
Speaker 3 (43:44):
So when you're being held profusely, do you say something
to the rest? You talk to the player first, like
what's your approach with that?
Speaker 2 (43:51):
Uh?
Speaker 11 (43:52):
You know I used to talk to the rest, but
your coach will say it's your fault for letting them
hold you. So nah, I just threw my best. It
just kind of create thatseulf brace.
Speaker 6 (44:00):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (44:01):
We used to say the same thing coaches said, hey, man,
if you're getting hell, that's your fault.
Speaker 6 (44:05):
Yeah, violidenough you you get.
Speaker 5 (44:08):
Their hands out or you make sure the rest are
actually call that. When Seahawks called your name, did you
have contact with them leading up in the draft. Did
you have a pretty good idea of where you might go?
Speaker 7 (44:21):
Uh?
Speaker 11 (44:21):
Yeah, I had a pretty good extensive draft process, so
you know, I went to the Senior Bowl, kind of
talked to the Seahawks. Then just like we just hit
it off right away. So this was one of the
places that I wanted to be, And when I got
that call, they just like a dream come true.
Speaker 5 (44:36):
What was your strength in college? And then when you're here,
was there something they wanted you to do different? Or
they say, now this is the tide of player I
want you to be.
Speaker 11 (44:46):
Right In college, we was a three down, so it
was a lot more stunned and slanting things. When I
got here, they wanted me to too gap. You know,
I kind of watched my film on guys like a
Woods and Monett, guys that's three hundred and fifty pounds
pus try to kind of mirror they game. But you know,
I'm three or eight, so I can't really my grind
like they do. So I had to kind of really
(45:06):
implement what I did best and what they wanted me
to do and kind of just like make my game
my own.
Speaker 4 (45:12):
Man.
Speaker 3 (45:12):
I could imagine since you were a kid, this is
what you wanted to do right right and help provide
for the family. I remember I wasn't drafted. I was undrafted,
and I snuck through the back door and the first
thing I did was take care of moms. I'm like,
mom helped me out my whole life. I'm gonna take
care of you. I'm gonna still drive the same car.
(45:32):
I'm doing nothing. I'm taking care of you first. So
what was that.
Speaker 4 (45:36):
Moment like for your family? You know, I'm sure you've
been telling.
Speaker 3 (45:39):
Your mom since you was a kid, I'm gonna buy
your house. I'm gonna do this something, make it to
the league like this. How gratifying is that?
Speaker 11 (45:44):
Actually I had dreams of taking care of my family
before I had NFL dream, So I didn't know how
I was gonna do it, but I knew that once
I got the opportunity that I was gonna make away.
So just being able to give back to them, like like,
don't fold my world. So just giving them what they want,
you know, makes my day.
Speaker 3 (46:01):
Are you an emotional kind of guy? Like when you
drafted where they're like tears of joy or was it
just I'm clocking in getting back to work?
Speaker 4 (46:09):
What was that moment?
Speaker 3 (46:09):
Like?
Speaker 11 (46:10):
It was a definitely little emotional you know, I was
surrounded by the people I love, kind of had pictures
are the ones that I wish was there. That was
the ones that eble to make it. So it was
a definitely lot of emotions going. Definitely seeing my mom
and my dad cry that kind of jard a tear
or two. So it was an emotional moment.
Speaker 4 (46:27):
Yeah, I love it.
Speaker 5 (46:28):
Well, there's a pretty good story of you also helping
your family out there and buying them a house. I'm
sure that was an emotional time as well. Get'd you
mind sharing that story with everybody here?
Speaker 11 (46:40):
Most definitely once I got the draft call, you know,
I was kind of looking for a house with my mom.
Then I was telling her like, Ma, you got to
find a house that you won't She what kind of
prolonging that she thought I was playing with it. I'm like, nah,
like this is the first person I want to make
like I want to get you a house. So once
I got home, I kind of like took it upon myself,
like we had like a week off before we came back.
(47:02):
Once I got home, I went there. It's the house
popped up on the market like as soon as I landed.
So I kind of text the relative like I'm trying
to come look at it. I guess she thought I
was playing too, so she was like, uh, okay, I
guess we got a young kid coming in talking about
he want to buy his house. We gona let him
look at it. So she was like, the owners they're
looking to see it this weekend. So I was like,
(47:22):
what's the offer? So she told me the number. I
gave a better price and they gave it to me.
So how that worked?
Speaker 6 (47:30):
Is it in your hometown of Crosby?
Speaker 11 (47:32):
Uh no, say, it's actually like, oh wait, okay, it's
probably twenty minutes from my mom worked, So it works out.
Speaker 4 (47:38):
Good to blossom, you gotta now.
Speaker 3 (47:41):
I was sitting with my sons the other day and
we were trying to go back and forth and name
brothers in the league.
Speaker 4 (47:48):
Right, and so there's a pedigree.
Speaker 3 (47:50):
If it's in you, you got a chance to make
it to the league for sure. Do you got any cousins,
little ones coming up? You think we should be looking
out for.
Speaker 11 (47:58):
I think my little brother he got a chance. You know,
he's a big guy, kind of physical. Oh, he likes
to get physical with me. Uh so I'm looking forward to.
Now you play offensive line. I don't know why you play.
You know, I think offensive line some of the craziest
people in the world. But they do it so he
love it so white.
Speaker 3 (48:17):
Why do you think they're crazy, I said, d line
because y'all w need attack line.
Speaker 4 (48:21):
You're on the retreat.
Speaker 11 (48:23):
Yeah, but like I've read for football, it's like hammers
and nails. You feel me, So I like to be
a hammer. I feel like offensive line are always nails.
So and then you don't get no credit for that,
Like you get hit every play and the quarterback get
all the love.
Speaker 4 (48:36):
So that's that's like.
Speaker 6 (48:38):
I had a coach.
Speaker 5 (48:40):
I had a coach who said that the difference between
this offensive line and defensive line was when I told
the defensive line, I want you to run through that wall.
Speaker 6 (48:49):
They ran through the wall for sure.
Speaker 5 (48:50):
And then he told I said I want to He
went to the offensive line, said I want you to
run through that wall. And they looked at that wall
and they go, what can we go over the wall?
Can we go around the wall? You know, they overthought
the things so and they are they're definitely different. Hey,
there's there's a connection. We had Coach Leads to Washington State.
(49:11):
Coach up here a long time in the Northwestern so
a lot of people got to know him. He went
to Mississippi State and you know he passed a year ago.
Speaker 6 (49:18):
I mean, it's crazy.
Speaker 5 (49:21):
One just you know, tell us a little bit about
what he meant to you and just how that whole
thing went down.
Speaker 6 (49:28):
For your team.
Speaker 11 (49:29):
Coach Lee's a great guy, you know, a great offensive mine. Uh,
just a great leader of men. So once he came in,
you know, his staff was the one that really gave
me my opportunity. So I'm forever grateful for him for that.
Speaker 3 (49:42):
When I look at Leech and I look at Pete Carroll,
I think they're different, but they're the same time, there's
some similarity.
Speaker 11 (49:51):
It's like it's so smart that you're crazy to a
point like like I just can't explain it, like they
do on sporadic things at times, like you just really can't.
Speaker 3 (50:00):
Right, And that has to be interesting as a player, right,
because you know I went to Washington State. I didn't
play for LEEDSIP, but I got a chance to be
around him, and he always intrigues me. Like I don't
understand what you're doing, right, but I want to understand it,
you know what I mean. Just Pete Carroll gives you
kind of kind of the same thing.
Speaker 11 (50:17):
Yeah, Like you will see Pete like running sprints and
like throwing the ball like fifty yards like he do
it every day. Like we don't know why, but I
just assume like that's a way for him to exert
energy because like his brain moving like one hundred miles
by at all time, so like it's crazy, but he Well.
Speaker 3 (50:35):
Cam Man, I was excited when they drafted you. I'm
excited when I see you when at four point because
I know you abouts get busy and we appreciate you
taking time out of your Thursday.
Speaker 6 (50:45):
Man, you're the future.
Speaker 7 (50:47):
Man.
Speaker 6 (50:47):
You got some good veterans in front of you. Show.
But we're glad you're here.
Speaker 11 (50:52):
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (50:52):
Give it up one more time for Cam. You all right?
Speaker 3 (50:55):
When move returnle go inside the film room with break down,
Cam Walker's touchdown and Sam Howell threw a touchdown and
DK setting up the game winning field goal.
Speaker 4 (51:05):
That's next right here on Hawk's Live.
Speaker 1 (51:09):
Hawkss Live presented by the Dining District at the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Squares Center Court, live on air on
Seattle Sports.
Speaker 4 (51:19):
Welcome back to Hawks Live. Michael Bumpus with my guy
Paul Moya. Now, this is what we love to do.
Speaker 2 (51:26):
Man.
Speaker 3 (51:27):
If you guys could be in our text thread around
Sunday night, maybe two hours after the postgame show, More
is gonna hit us with the text I, hey guys,
look at this. This is what I'm seeing. And then
Monday he hits us with something else. Tuesday, he has
figured out what works and what doesn't work. By Wednesday,
he's looking towards the next weekend. By Thursday, he's saying,
(51:49):
all right, let's look over these plays again and make
sure that I was correct.
Speaker 6 (51:53):
Cale.
Speaker 5 (51:54):
I'm gonna have you as my agent. I got my
PR person, which you need.
Speaker 4 (51:59):
I need five percent on that three gotta get fine.
Speaker 6 (52:02):
Look, we're family. It's it's all in the family.
Speaker 4 (52:05):
Yeah, shure, that's how you get around it. Okay, all right,
sounds good.
Speaker 3 (52:09):
All right, So let's go into the film room and
break some of these plays down. The first play we're
breaking down, Gino Smith finds kit Walker for a sixty
four yard touchdown Washington with.
Speaker 9 (52:19):
Four down Linemens playfake to Walker. Gino looks to throw
scrambles out now dumps it off underneath. Walker makes again
across the midfield.
Speaker 4 (52:26):
Still on the moon down to the.
Speaker 2 (52:28):
Forty pick a goat twenty five fifty ten five he
guys in touchdown, say Hawks. Ken Walker the third out
of a cannon and down the near sidelines for sixty
four yards on a touchdown, and just when the Hawks
(52:48):
needed it both Walker breaks tackles near the line of
scrimmage and he is gone. Seattle leeds fifteen to twelve.
Speaker 3 (52:58):
All right, I like this boyer, because we were talking
off air and you say, man, do you think that
was a design play? And I go, no, this is
what I think, And you tell me if you agree
or not. I think that it's a play action pass
now ken Walker after the play action, he's looking to see, Okay,
now I'm in pass pro. If this backer is going
(53:19):
to block, then I'm blocking. If he doesn't block, then
now I release. It's called like a check with me
depending on what you do right. So now you're in
name a three by one formation. Get the tight end
to the right, attacks a line of scrimmage. Got Jake
Bobo and Tyler Lockett to the right, DK isolated on
the backside. Looks like they're in a deep quarters or
(53:39):
something like that.
Speaker 4 (53:40):
When when we're.
Speaker 3 (53:41):
Talking about the defense, Gino looks to the left, he's
looking to take a shot I feel like and doesn't
like the release that he works to the number two
or even the number three to the right side that's
the tight end, doesn't like his release and says, you
know what I'm gonna avoid. I'm gonna make a play,
check it down to my running back. And now that's
just ken Walker being elusive in making plays.
Speaker 5 (54:04):
Yeah, this is all on ken Walker. I mean, there's
not a lot of blocking going on here. But the
reason why I asked was this a design checkdown? Is
I wish we did more of this. A lot of
times you'll have an outlet, so there's always you're always
looking for the check down. A lot of times it's
a swing route by a back, so he's looking downfield,
nothing there, and then they'll run a swing route. But
(54:26):
a lot of times it's still behind the line of scrimmage,
and so you know the linebackers and underneath coverage are
getting deep, but they can rally to that. The reason
why I was thinking it was is because it looked
so like it was designed, like they ran this play action,
and this play action came from a play action power play.
Speaker 6 (54:48):
We'd been running a bunch of power plays, and.
Speaker 5 (54:50):
A power play just means that we're pulling a guard
and a lot of times that guard leads up and
will hit a linebacker kick out and then dependent on how.
Speaker 6 (54:59):
They play it.
Speaker 5 (55:00):
So we'd run a bunch of power runs and so
we pull a guard on this thing, our left guard,
which was Lewis, and so you know they were running
the play action routes behind it well.
Speaker 6 (55:11):
A lot of.
Speaker 5 (55:12):
Times in play action and bootlegs, when you see that
as a linebacker or the underneath coverage, you're looking for
designed routes.
Speaker 6 (55:20):
They've done this for a reason.
Speaker 5 (55:22):
Bootlegs it's you know, usually crossing routes and they're trying
to do it in two or three levels. So you're
turned to look up. You know, one of the tight
ends crossing or a wide receiver crossing. Play action same thing.
There's a lot of designed routes without you, and so
often you'll see linebackers turn their back to the quarterback
to go look up receivers on play action. So I
(55:42):
like a checkdown in the middle of the field to
take advantage of that, and you can split a defense
on this one. You're right, it wasn't designed on that,
just with a happenstance on it.
Speaker 6 (55:55):
But it's such a great play by K nine.
Speaker 5 (55:57):
I mean, first of all, he makes one guy miss
and then he breaks the tackle, and then he has
the speed to take it to distance.
Speaker 6 (56:04):
It's all on Key Night.
Speaker 5 (56:06):
So Gino listens to our show every Thursday from seven
to nine. I'm gonna let him know it's okay to
hit some check downs in the middle of the.
Speaker 3 (56:13):
Field, all right, you heard it from Moyer. If he
says you better do it, it's right. It's gonna work.
Speaker 5 (56:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (56:20):
This next play, we got Sam Hawl Fine's Brown for
a thirty five yard touchdown.
Speaker 9 (56:25):
Third down and ten shotgun snap howl stands, waits throws, catches,
made the run to the end zone and we're a
point away from being tied up catching a crossing route.
Is Brown right in the middle of the Seahawks defense
and nobody is there to make the tackle. A thirty
five yard touchdown.
Speaker 4 (56:46):
All right, what you see?
Speaker 5 (56:47):
Well, we uh, we end up sending four guys on this,
but one of the four is we we send Bobby
Wagner in the middle of the formation, and then we
drop I believe we drop Darryl Taylor to the late left,
and then Jordan Brooks is kind of our our deep
middle guy. Honestly, there are just times in a game
(57:09):
you go, it was just a better throw me. We're
actually in position. I mean, is it Woolan or is
it Witherspoon? And I thought it was Woolan, but then
I thought I heard Pete say it was Witherspoon.
Speaker 6 (57:25):
It's it is Witherspoon.
Speaker 4 (57:28):
Uh, I mean both of them.
Speaker 6 (57:29):
It's Witherspoon.
Speaker 5 (57:31):
Woolen's out to our right, but Witherspoon's in the in
the nickel, so he drops in what I call kind
of the hook area between the numbers.
Speaker 4 (57:39):
And the hash.
Speaker 5 (57:40):
It's just a great throw, and it's a great catch.
And even for Digs when I see it, Digs goes
to where the ball is. The guy undercuts him. He
has to stop and Reroute. It's just sometimes they out
make a play on you. I don't I don't fault
anything here.
Speaker 4 (57:59):
No, you look at the coverage.
Speaker 3 (58:01):
You got Witherspoon underneath, you got Brooks underneath, got safeties
over the top. Sometimes guys just make plays.
Speaker 6 (58:10):
It happens.
Speaker 5 (58:11):
I'm sure if you give me a second here, I
can find some fault to it.
Speaker 6 (58:15):
Maybe it's the backside.
Speaker 4 (58:17):
Corner, you know me.
Speaker 5 (58:20):
Yeah, I'll throw this on Trey Brown. So Trey, I'm
calling you out on this tray. Tray sat and watched
the play for a second, and he could have made
the play before the touchdown.
Speaker 6 (58:31):
It still would have been about the ten yard line.
Speaker 4 (58:33):
How watch him, he stops the backside corner.
Speaker 5 (58:37):
Watch you gotta go to the sideline. Sideline, okay, watch
when the ball's thrown. Look, I'm taught man, when a
ball thrown, you go go. He didn't go. I look,
I'm nitpicking. I'm nitpicking. I love Trey Brown. I told
you I think we got the best trio corners and
the league. He has come and he has become the guy.
Speaker 4 (58:58):
You would coach him up that way.
Speaker 5 (58:59):
I would say, hey, what are you doing? Why are
you watching the play? He just watched it. When I
say watch, he watched it for about a half second.
That half second, if he had it going, he would
have made the tackle at.
Speaker 6 (59:09):
A ten yard line.
Speaker 4 (59:10):
As long as you're coaching him up that way, I'm okay.
Speaker 5 (59:12):
With an equal opportunity. Man, all right, I'm called tough
love trying to make it. Do you want to be
the best you can be? What do you want to
do with you?
Speaker 6 (59:20):
Thank you? That's all I'm saying, all right.
Speaker 3 (59:23):
Next up again, Geno Smith finds dk Metcalf for a
twenty seven yard game, setting up the game winning field goal.
Speaker 9 (59:30):
Second down in ten from his own forty eight Seahawks
need to get about twenty yards.
Speaker 2 (59:35):
There's a shutdown the middle of Decayans and spins out
of one tackle. He's dragging guys down to the twenty
five yard line. But now they got to get.
Speaker 4 (59:43):
Up to the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 2 (59:44):
Thirteen twelve eleven Seahawks running to get to the line
of scrimmage.
Speaker 4 (59:49):
Gino gets everybody.
Speaker 2 (59:50):
Set six five four three, spits the ball. What a
pass by Gino and what a clutch play by number
fourteen DK Medcalf. A twenty seven yard reception just when
they needed it.
Speaker 5 (01:00:08):
Let's call get high fire up.
Speaker 6 (01:00:10):
Hey, you got a call by Steve.
Speaker 4 (01:00:13):
You got me? Steve got me too.
Speaker 6 (01:00:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:00:15):
So if you guys look, I do a bumps breakdown
every Wednesday or every Thursday, every Wednesday, every Wednesday on YouTube.
You guys, go and check it out Seattle Sports. I
break down this play right here. So this is what happens. Okay,
it's all about occupying defenders and Geno realizing where the
(01:00:37):
space is going to be. All right, you got a
two by two set kind of tight stack, look right,
two receivers type, two receivers type. And what happens is
the inside receivers are going to run hitches.
Speaker 4 (01:00:47):
They occupy guys. Now you got Tyler Lockett who runs
a corner.
Speaker 3 (01:00:50):
He's gonna take the cornerback with them and the safety.
And then you have DK, who's running a ten yard team.
What makes this thing possible is zach Sharbonne swings to
the right, He takes a linebacker with him, and he
opens up the middle of the field and Gino knows
where the ball should and will be going. DK runs
a ten yard in boom, he rounds it, gets the football,
(01:01:14):
breaks the tackle. DK showed up big early in the game,
a little shaky late in the game.
Speaker 4 (01:01:20):
DK got it done.
Speaker 3 (01:01:21):
Beautiful play design, but more impressive was Gino understanding what
the defense is in what they're trying to do and
getting the ball to fourteen.
Speaker 5 (01:01:30):
Yeah there, you know, I want to describe all the
what happened there with the hooks early on and then
the late cross or the end route by DK.
Speaker 6 (01:01:40):
It's a great throw first of all by Gino because.
Speaker 5 (01:01:42):
Jason Peters kind of gets beat inside by the end
and so Gino and I don't want to say it
would have been a sack, but he flashes right in
front of Gino in the middle of the formation.
Speaker 6 (01:01:55):
So to me, it's a really good throw.
Speaker 5 (01:01:57):
And I think the second best thing is just dcase
effort to get that extra.
Speaker 6 (01:02:02):
Ten yards, you know, I mean, he got us that.
Speaker 5 (01:02:05):
It would have been outside the thirty if he hadn't
have broke the tackle on this. But here's the most
impressive part of that play. Jason Peters has to run
all the way. He runs in late You gotta watch
the sideline aything. They're kind of waiting for him. And
Jason's a big man. He's forty two years old and
he's probably thinking, Okay, we caught that ball. Oh we
(01:02:26):
don't have any timeouts. We gotta run all the way
up there, get set and get spiked. And he's everybody's
kind of setting. Here comes Jason later running and hustling there.
Speaker 6 (01:02:37):
It's pretty funny to watch.
Speaker 4 (01:02:38):
That's a veteran for you.
Speaker 6 (01:02:39):
Yep, it was.
Speaker 5 (01:02:40):
It was great play man, just a good win for
the Seahawks.
Speaker 3 (01:02:44):
All right, hey, make sure you get out to the
b alv Collection Dyningistics.
Speaker 4 (01:02:48):
So many great restaurants to choose from. Today.
Speaker 3 (01:02:50):
We had our pre show meal at one of our favorites,
Duke's Sea Food.
Speaker 4 (01:02:56):
I had baking.
Speaker 3 (01:02:58):
Cheeseberg alright, you know man, and it's tapping on the seafood.
Moyer had some type of seafood.
Speaker 6 (01:03:06):
What did you have? What did you have? The case ideas?
What were they? I'm telling you, and.
Speaker 5 (01:03:15):
I am not exaggerating, I'm not lying. I'm not just
pumping up dukes. Even though I'm pumping up dukes. Their
case idea?
Speaker 6 (01:03:23):
What was.
Speaker 5 (01:03:25):
It's it's unbelievable. You wouldn't even think it would be good,
but it is. I took the extra one. It's in
my to go back.
Speaker 3 (01:03:32):
But for me, it was even better as the rock
fish tacos straight for life.
Speaker 5 (01:03:36):
Okay, okay, I promise you it's not what you think.
Speaker 6 (01:03:40):
They are so good.
Speaker 4 (01:03:42):
It's not what you think. What do you think?
Speaker 5 (01:03:43):
Well, I mean I'm thinking a rock fish fish taco.
You're thinking right, halibit case idea. No, these are They're
like legit taco.
Speaker 4 (01:03:55):
Remember, it's not what you think. It's good.
Speaker 5 (01:03:58):
Look I I'm look I man boyer.
Speaker 4 (01:04:01):
Let us know. Right, we come back, it's time to
talk that talk.
Speaker 3 (01:04:06):
Well, we'll go through some topics and Moyer would tell
me he's always right, because you know what, I respect
my elders, So he's right. Okay, that's coming up next
bright here on Hawk's Live.
Speaker 7 (01:04:20):
It's time to talk that talk with Michael Bumpus and
Paul Moyer on Hawks Live.
Speaker 4 (01:04:28):
What A What A?
Speaker 3 (01:04:29):
Back to Hawk's Live on Michael Bamas with Paul Moyer,
and now it's time to talk that talk.
Speaker 4 (01:04:35):
This is when we square up. You know, we we
throw some topics out there and we.
Speaker 3 (01:04:40):
See who's right and who's wrong, or or at least
we put an argument for who's right and who's wrong.
Speaker 6 (01:04:47):
It's turned more into a pillow fight, you know if
we get.
Speaker 3 (01:04:51):
A because it's like there's too much love between us.
Speaker 5 (01:04:56):
At first we were like, yeah, come on, who's the
who's the.
Speaker 4 (01:05:01):
And I was like, I was like, Hey, that's a gimme.
That's a gimme. You can have back until the eighteenth.
Speaker 6 (01:05:10):
I'll put that right.
Speaker 4 (01:05:11):
Well yeah, yeah, that we're playing skins. Now roll it over.
Speaker 3 (01:05:14):
All right, Well, let's get into it. Man, talk that talk.
I'll start us off more. All right, here we go,
You agree or disagree? Gino Smith continues his turnover less street.
Speaker 6 (01:05:28):
God Man.
Speaker 5 (01:05:28):
The Rams just they their blitz package work worries me.
But I don't think their secondary is very good. So
I'm gonna say yes. I think Gino he knows what
we need to do. We cannot turn the ball over,
so yeah, I'm gonna.
Speaker 4 (01:05:43):
Say yeah, say yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:05:44):
I'm going to say yes as well. Last week there
was only one play that kind of scared me. I
think they tried to set up the screen. He tried
to side arm it to Ken Walker. There's a defensive
lineman there and he makes a play on the football.
But for the most part last week he was pretty good,
So I think that he's going to tap in to
(01:06:04):
the geno that we saw last year for the most
part and take care of the football.
Speaker 4 (01:06:09):
So now I'm with you. He's going to continue his
turnover less.
Speaker 5 (01:06:13):
Street and we need it. Here's an interesting winner. Matthew
Stafford is eleventh all time and passion. When he is
at Detroit.
Speaker 6 (01:06:25):
You know, I didn't think much of him.
Speaker 5 (01:06:27):
I knew he had a pretty good arm, you know,
he they threw a lot.
Speaker 6 (01:06:32):
He was a good guy, you know, stuff like that.
I never thought of him as elite.
Speaker 5 (01:06:36):
And then McVeigh figures him out and breaks over the
rams and win a Super Bowl?
Speaker 6 (01:06:42):
Is he Hall of Fame worthy?
Speaker 4 (01:06:45):
Matthew Stafford hall of Fame worthy? Here's the thing.
Speaker 3 (01:06:49):
If he stayed in Detroit and Dave whatever Detroit is doing,
didn't win a super Bowl. Because I don't see Jared
Golf winning a super Bowl super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (01:06:57):
I don't see the team right now, that's ball.
Speaker 3 (01:07:00):
What are they seven to two, eight and two at
this point right now? Maybe seven to two. I don't
see them winning a super Bowl. So I think the
fact that he came over to Los Angeles and won
a Super Bowl put him in the Hall of Fame
because he's gonna play three four more seasons. He's gonna
put up three thousand yards at least per season. That's
another what nine to ten eleven thousand yards? So now
(01:07:23):
I'm gonna I'm gonna say he's Hall of Fame.
Speaker 5 (01:07:25):
Well, he's definitely gonna be in the top ten, and
he's got a Super Bowl. Eli Manning has two super Bowls.
He's not in the in the in the Hall of Fame.
I don't I don't know if he's is he eligible yet?
He might just now be eligible, but he you know,
that's another.
Speaker 6 (01:07:40):
One would be an interesting one.
Speaker 5 (01:07:43):
It's so weird because Goth has had success at Detroit.
You know, Goth was good with the Rams. The Rams
of the last two years have not been good. But
I think he gets into I just think, you know,
if you're a top ten all time yard quarterback, you've
won a super Bowl, the Super Bow, Bulls what Dotson
if he didn't have the Super Bowl, say Detroit, I
(01:08:03):
don't think he gets in.
Speaker 4 (01:08:04):
So what about Matt Ryan, He'll be he's top ten.
Speaker 3 (01:08:07):
Man.
Speaker 5 (01:08:07):
I just but those to me are just yards, right.
Speaker 3 (01:08:10):
I mean, you've got an MVP, Matthew Stafford, have an
MVP I don't think he does.
Speaker 4 (01:08:14):
No.
Speaker 5 (01:08:15):
M vps are hard, man, you gotta have MVP sometimes
are lucked too. You got to have one really good year.
That to me does not make a Hall of Fame career.
But sometimes winning the Super Bowl just one good year too, right,
And it's a team thing.
Speaker 6 (01:08:30):
But I think Stafford gets in.
Speaker 5 (01:08:33):
Matt Ryan. That'll be interesting because as more yards get pushed,
you know, by other players, and by the time he retires,
and then he's got wait five years, I believe before
you get into the Hall of Fame, Matt Ryan may
not be in the top ten anymore.
Speaker 6 (01:08:48):
True, So that one's still up for debate.
Speaker 4 (01:08:51):
You know what.
Speaker 6 (01:08:55):
I think that will dictate. I think Eli gets.
Speaker 4 (01:08:58):
In, all right, I'm gonna I got a hot take.
Speaker 6 (01:09:00):
All right.
Speaker 3 (01:09:00):
You know what I don't like, but guys from the
fifties and sixties getting.
Speaker 4 (01:09:04):
In the Hall of Fame now, Like randomly, there'll be.
Speaker 3 (01:09:07):
Some guy who played thirty forty years ago and now
he's in the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 4 (01:09:11):
I go, why didn't they do it back then, earlier
than now? Like, well, what's the problem.
Speaker 6 (01:09:16):
I'll give you a good one. Kenny easily. Kenny easily
did not get in.
Speaker 3 (01:09:20):
Well, that's that's not that's he didn't play forty years ago.
Speaker 6 (01:09:24):
No, but it had gone by thirty years. He didn't
get in.
Speaker 5 (01:09:29):
And the reason why he didn't get in is he
got his injuries cut his career short. And so much
of the writers look at oh, you got to have longevity,
but they didn't look at well, the seven years he played,
he was the most dominant, most feared. He was safety
in the NFL, and he won defensive MVP as a
safety with back then was unheard of in nineteen eighty four.
Speaker 6 (01:09:51):
And so to me, it's Warren.
Speaker 5 (01:09:53):
And sometimes you just got to go back and say
they missed it. They just missed it during that time.
And the other thing is, I mean, do you leave
it to writers? Come on, man, I'm not a huge
fan of writers because they just look at at times statistics.
Speaker 3 (01:10:08):
You know what now that you say that Gail Sayers
better be in the Hall of Time, yes, okay.
Speaker 5 (01:10:13):
But that's another one season I know.
Speaker 3 (01:10:17):
But he was the most he was He was the
smoothest runner I've ever seen in all Live Girl.
Speaker 4 (01:10:22):
Sayers.
Speaker 6 (01:10:23):
You know who should be in Dave Brown. Dave Brown, Dave.
Speaker 5 (01:10:26):
Brown's sixty two or three interceptions.
Speaker 6 (01:10:29):
How do you not in the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 5 (01:10:32):
With that many intersects because we never you never went
to the Hall of Fame. If he was, he got
drafted by Pittsburgh in the supplemental Draft when the Seahawks
started as a franchise. They didn't protect Dave Brown. He
was a first round pick by Pittsburgh.
Speaker 6 (01:10:47):
Steelers out of Michigan.
Speaker 5 (01:10:49):
The Seahawks get him in that whatever not supplemental draft
of picks whatever they do for expansion teams. And he
has a Hall of Fame career and he's not in.
That guy should be in the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 3 (01:11:03):
So at the rate we're at, if you were in
the Seahawk Ring.
Speaker 4 (01:11:07):
Of Honor, we're putting you in the Hall of Fame.
Let's do it.
Speaker 6 (01:11:10):
Well, I'm saying Dave Brown legitimate.
Speaker 4 (01:11:12):
No for real, but we just named Hawks.
Speaker 5 (01:11:15):
I can make a case for Dave Craig. At one point,
the Craig he had yards and touchdowns.
Speaker 4 (01:11:22):
These are your golfing buddies, aren't they.
Speaker 5 (01:11:24):
No, But you go and look at his numbers. He
just never went to a Super Bowl never, you know.
Speaker 3 (01:11:30):
I mean, So, now we got to talk about what
being in the Hall of Fame means, do you need
a as a quarterback.
Speaker 4 (01:11:36):
As a quarterback you need to win a Super Bowl?
I don't know. I think you do ill unless your
Dann Marina Dan Marino.
Speaker 5 (01:11:44):
I mean he was so dominant, Uh Joe John Elway
until his last two years, had won a Super Bowl.
You know you're gonna keep him out. So, okay, that's
a guy. We just we go on forever rabbit hole.
Speaker 6 (01:11:54):
We're done.
Speaker 4 (01:11:55):
We've done.
Speaker 5 (01:11:56):
That's the first time in the years we've done this.
We only did to No.
Speaker 4 (01:12:00):
No, well, we're not done completely.
Speaker 6 (01:12:02):
Oh I thought we were done.
Speaker 4 (01:12:03):
We're done with that. Okay, good, we got time. We
got time for one more. Okay, producer says, we've got
time for one more.
Speaker 6 (01:12:08):
Is we're gonna do it?
Speaker 4 (01:12:09):
Which one you want? You want the DK Tyler or
the mouth Tyler? All right, here we go.
Speaker 3 (01:12:14):
DK and Tyler will have more yards this Sunday than
Pooka and cup.
Speaker 9 (01:12:22):
Cool.
Speaker 5 (01:12:23):
I get a lot of people shaking their heads. I'm
gonna I'm gonna say no. And the only reason why
I'm gonna say no, j SM has become such.
Speaker 6 (01:12:33):
A factor, you know, and so oh no, I'm gonna
flip it. I'm gonna say yes. I think.
Speaker 5 (01:12:40):
Well, here's why I think DK is gonna go off
this game. Their corners are Look you got Witherspoon, who's
over there. I mean we've cut him last year.
Speaker 6 (01:12:49):
He's our starting corner.
Speaker 5 (01:12:51):
And DK had a couple of routes on the rams
the first game. We need to go back and do
a few more of those. I think we can take
them deep. And DK may have one hundred plus on
his own this week.
Speaker 4 (01:13:02):
All right.
Speaker 3 (01:13:03):
The reason why I'm gonna say no is because I
feel like the Hawks are gonna run the football exceptionally well,
and that's gonna take away from these guys. Jason's gonna
cut into it, and then Tyler Lockett will will not disappear,
but not have a big game for a game or two,
and then he's back on the seam.
Speaker 4 (01:13:18):
So I'm gonna say no, but I still think the
Hawks win the game.
Speaker 6 (01:13:20):
You're not wrong, okay, but you ain't.
Speaker 4 (01:13:23):
Right, Dido.
Speaker 3 (01:13:26):
All right, when we get back, Hey, we put our
final thoughts in Keys of Victory.
Speaker 4 (01:13:31):
That is next right here on Hawks Live.
Speaker 1 (01:13:36):
Hawks Live, presented by the Dining District at the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Square Center Court live on air on
Seattle Sports.
Speaker 3 (01:13:45):
We are still here. Welcome back to Hawks Live. I'm
Michael Bumpus with Paul Moyer. We got our soldiers here
about three hundred deep.
Speaker 4 (01:13:54):
We saw the movie.
Speaker 3 (01:13:56):
Saw that movie, great movie, just like us man cut.
I tried to do that when the movie came out.
You know, they they posted the workout that they did.
Speaker 4 (01:14:07):
I did it for like a week, and I'm like, nah,
I don't need to be in that kind of shape.
I'm good.
Speaker 5 (01:14:12):
The guy who's the lead actor on that is it
Gerard or whatever they I mean, he said that when
he was done with that movie, he said he never
wanted to work out again.
Speaker 6 (01:14:24):
He just he said it was so hard.
Speaker 4 (01:14:26):
It's crazy, right. You know.
Speaker 3 (01:14:28):
You know what's gonna be hard is this weekend against
the Rams.
Speaker 4 (01:14:34):
All Right, it's gonna be a tough game.
Speaker 6 (01:14:36):
They always play.
Speaker 4 (01:14:37):
Last time I always played. That's a great point.
Speaker 3 (01:14:40):
I think that that's that's important because for some reason,
people think that games are supposed to be easy. And
I remind people I go, the Hawks don't set their schedule.
Speaker 4 (01:14:51):
They don't.
Speaker 3 (01:14:51):
They don't schedule a D two school week one two
or three or like some SEC schools do take a
buy when they want to.
Speaker 4 (01:15:00):
Take the buy. No, the NFL says, this is who
you're going to play.
Speaker 3 (01:15:04):
And unfortunately for the Hawks, they are playing against the
best division in football in the AFC North. And then
you sprinkle in the Cowboys. Just sprinkle in Philly. It's
gonna be tough. And then you sprinkle in the team
that you got to play two times every year in
the Los Angeles Rams, and they're gonna play you tough.
Speaker 4 (01:15:23):
This is going to be a tough game.
Speaker 5 (01:15:25):
Well, don't we have the toughest remaining schedule or second toughest.
I mean, look, this is critical for the Seahawks to
make the playoffs. I mean we have to win this
game because our next four games are San Francisco Cowboys
I think San Francisco again in Philadelphia or maybe those
are flopped.
Speaker 6 (01:15:44):
I mean that's that's four tough games.
Speaker 5 (01:15:45):
And we got Pittsburgh somewhere at the last two games,
so we got a tough road they had. This is
a big one. I hope there's a lot of possessions
in this game. Normally the Seahawks like to play not
a lot of possessions.
Speaker 6 (01:16:00):
This one.
Speaker 5 (01:16:00):
I want to mainly because I just don't think their
offense is that good. Their offensive line is is not
very good. I think we can get after the quarterback
when you need stop the run. They do run the ball well.
Matter of fact, they're running backs averaging four point seven
yards per carry. We got to shore that up right
from the get go and force them to throw it.
They're they're a different offense now because they don't protect well.
(01:16:23):
So those deep crossing routes that they're gonna do it,
they're gonna have to keep two tight ends in and
a running back and probably run a two man route.
We should be able to, you know, to match up
on that. I think, you know, offensively, it'll be a challenge.
Is because Aaron Donald is all over the map. He's
a left tackle, left guard, or right tackle, right in
left end. We got to know where he is. And
(01:16:44):
and they've got enough good players on the front to
to put pressure on the quarterback. Their secondary is not great.
They're they're capable of making plays, but they're not great.
I think it's one of those games where I go, GINO,
that's a one on one matchup, Go ahead and give
give dk an opportunity. He's got the height on them.
(01:17:04):
Matter of fact, their safety is it yeast I think
it's yeast Man. He's like five nine, five ten. There's
some times where he's even been in position. He's just
not very tall. I couldn't make the play. So I
think there's some risk reward place we can we can
take downfield. I hope we win by double digits. It's
(01:17:25):
probably not gonna happen. It's gonna be a fourth quarter game.
I think we'll be in control. But we were somewhat
in control of the first half the first game we
played him. We were up thirteen to seven, drove down,
we missed a field goal to go up sixteen to seven.
That would I'd have been a big difference. Second half
was just I was just throw it away.
Speaker 3 (01:17:45):
Yeah, you're in California now. The Los Angeles Rams don't
necessarily have a really big home field advantage.
Speaker 6 (01:17:55):
Oh, we'll have advantage.
Speaker 4 (01:17:56):
But you're gonna hear the Twelves. Oh, yes, you're gonna
hear the Twelves. Is hardly any teams that roll.
Speaker 3 (01:18:01):
Through there so far, and it's not at least what
sixty forty like the Hawks, the Twelves should be deep
in there, so I'm expecting that it's gonna help as well.
And I'm just expecting a good game and this is
gonna be a good one. I think that this is important.
You have to win this game before you go into
the gauntlet that you're going to go into. And honestly,
(01:18:22):
the Gauntlet starts this weekend. I've been on a couple
of interviews down with the broadcast teams in LA and
I'm like, look, the gatlet starts now.
Speaker 4 (01:18:31):
They keep talking about after this game.
Speaker 3 (01:18:32):
I go, no, no, no, no, no, it starts with this
game because the Rams have gotten the better of this
team as of LAG.
Speaker 6 (01:18:38):
And I'll close you with this.
Speaker 5 (01:18:39):
I think this is personal for Pete being five and nine,
since mcveigh's come to the Rams.
Speaker 4 (01:18:46):
Got to shake his hand.
Speaker 5 (01:18:47):
I think I think we'll run a few different things
offensively in defense with this game.
Speaker 4 (01:18:52):
All right, let's get it special.
Speaker 3 (01:18:55):
Thanks to all the people who stayed here and hollered
at us today. Also to Kobe Parkers, Greg Beecham, and
Cam Young for joining the show. Our board operators Max Strobel,
on site engineer is the lovely Brennan Rodgers. Production of
Centstus Chauncey Sanders and executive producer is Nasa Choby. The
Seahawks pregame show is live this Sunday starting at ten am.
(01:19:15):
Until next time, I'm your host, Michael Bumpus. That's my guy,
Paul Moyer. We'll be back in a couple of weeks,
right here on Hawk's lot.
