Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hawks Live, presented by the Dining District of the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Squares Center Court, every Thursday from seven
to nine, live on air on Seattle Sports.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
No.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
If you're your hosts Michael Bumpis and Paul.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Moyer, you are listening to Hawk's Slide presented by the
Diners at the Bellby Collection. The show starts every Thursday
at seven right here on Michael Bumpas what my guy,
Paul Moyer, we are looking at at least two thousand people,
at least two thousand, and they are ready to talk
(00:34):
about your Seahawks. Last week, they get it done against
the forty nine ers.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
That was a tough game. Moyer.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
I figured, I told myself, I go, look, if they
can get through this game, then the rest of the
season is looking promising. But you have to get through
this game. And they did exactly that. What did you
make of that win against the forty nine.
Speaker 4 (00:51):
Ers, Yeah, that was a good win. How I feel
is how I felt after we beat Denver, where I go, Okay,
it looked really good, a lot of speed, We fix
some issues, but I will say this, this was the
best team performance we've had in a few years. Particularly defensively.
(01:12):
And when I mean team is everybody doing their job,
everybody fundamentally doing things that are the little things. Because
there was times bump where last year when the forty
nine ers would run a toss play to McCaffrey and
he would have a three way go. He could either
the way they toss their toss isn't outside. It's more
of a pitch straight back and he can either go
(01:34):
to his left, he can go up the middle, or
he can cut back. Last year mean we couldn't stop that. Well,
this game not only did we stop it, I mean
it was even when there was a little bit of
a hole, the way we closed.
Speaker 5 (01:47):
That hole down.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
Everybody was sliding, taking care of their job, and then
sliding afterwards to get into the play. A play that
would have went for thirty forty yards last year would
go for six. So it was really good. I mean
we're flying around pass defense. We made brock Purdy have
to throw into some really contested windows and if he
wanted it, he had to really want to make that throw,
(02:10):
and he didn't want to make a lot of those throws.
He goes ah and that's where he would try to
scramble around and buy some time. So that was one
of the best performances defensively, just how we played team
defense in the run, how we were on point in
the passing game man the man and in zone our
understanding of the concepts of zone passing guys off dropping
(02:30):
back into another passing lane.
Speaker 5 (02:32):
Really impressive stuff.
Speaker 4 (02:33):
So after six straight losses of the forty nine ers,
that was a good win.
Speaker 6 (02:38):
My man.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Paul Moyer described Rock Purdy the best way I've ever
heard of described when it comes to his run game.
He says, he got that Larry Bird first step, and
I go, Maria, what you're talking about?
Speaker 3 (02:48):
And then we play them at home, and.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
I saw that Larry Bird first step that you play
them on the road, I saw the Larry Bird first step.
He was second on the team when it comes to
rushing first downs, which baffled me to make sense. At
the same time, you don't have Christian McCaffrey. You have
Mason who's running the rock, but on third and short,
on second and short for whatever, he is running the
football and he knows how to pick up those yards
(03:11):
and do a thing. The thing that impressed me the most,
Moyer is that Abe Lucas was back and Nick Bolsa
only played twenty six snaps, but for the nine eight
percent of the time he went to begainst ab Lucas,
Abe seemed to handle him. I saw one pressure giving
up by Abe Lucas also Ola with Timmy in the
middle when he got the nod to be the starting
(03:32):
center for the Seahawks. I'm thinking, man, what a week
for him to get that nod. But he looks really
good this offensive line. I know we're deep into the season,
it might be coming together. Neat to see it for
the other week, but I was encouraged by the performance
by those guys.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
Well, we got Lincoln Tomlinson comming, so we can ask
about Oulu coming up here. I think you're right on
Abe Lucas the time he was in like he was
not intimidator.
Speaker 5 (04:00):
It all a matter of fact.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
First couple of past protections that he had against Bosa,
and Bosa is a man. Now he is going to
bull rush you and he's gonna start setting you up.
Speaker 5 (04:09):
Abe just kind of sat there and went.
Speaker 4 (04:10):
But he and the one pressure he got picked off
by the guy chipping the running back. Yeah he got
it got in his way. So but we got we
got more important people coming here.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
That's what we do. Yes, we do.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
And right now we are joined by Lake and Tomlinson.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
Everybody's capping up one more time from my guy.
Speaker 4 (04:30):
Good you have Paul by the way, bump what you
probably seen before my guy before, get to see you again.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
Look you good Man, Good to see you.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
My guy is from Jamaica. All acc type of player.
Spent some time in the league with several teams, and
one team you spent some time with.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
We just got him last week.
Speaker 6 (04:54):
Got him.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
So honestly, you.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
Were one of the first people I thought about. Honestly,
I thought about mahmies back home who liked the nine.
I hit them up some of the text, and then too,
I thought about you and what that meant for you
to get that win.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
Going back to Santa Clair. What was that like?
Speaker 7 (05:07):
Man, It meant a lot, you know, just going back
to my first time back in that stadium since I left,
So I really meant a lot. Man, saw a lot
of familiar faces. It was kind of nostalgic feeling. But
I was there on a mission, you know. I was
there with my team and we went in there and
got the job done. So super happy and proud of
the guys, man, and we needed that one too.
Speaker 5 (05:25):
Yes, sir, yeah, six six losses in a row though,
that's tough. I met. We had a nemus.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
Kansas City lost seven years in a row when I
played in Kansas City and it just killed me. And
I saw you when you guys lost to them here.
You were pretty upset about.
Speaker 6 (05:41):
That one too, Yeah, oh yeah.
Speaker 5 (05:43):
Is it is it personal or is it just because
you knew guys there?
Speaker 7 (05:47):
It's personal because you know, you spent a lot of
time with the guys around you, and you feel the
history from all those guys too, So you know, when
you get to know the guys in a personal level,
it becomes personal to you as well. So just spending
the time with those guys, man, that's what made it
personal for me.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
What's it like for you guys?
Speaker 2 (06:05):
Because you know, there are rarely any blowouts in the NFL.
You look at the Detroit Lions and they got rid
of the Jags, okay, but there are rarely any blowouts
in the NFL. And I describe a football game to people,
ass it's just a ball of stress. Who's gonna handle
the stress better than anybody else? What was it about
the Seahawks on that day that allowed you guys to
(06:27):
handle the stress better than anyone else.
Speaker 6 (06:29):
Man.
Speaker 7 (06:29):
You know, just coming in enemy territory and tak care
of business. You know, big shout out to oulu. He
came in, stepped up in a big way communication wise,
and he went out there and did his thing. Abe
Lucas went out there as well, came out stepped up
in the big way for us, and we just executed
in a higher level. Man. And when it came down
to that fourth quarter, in the last drive, you know,
I just remember being in the huddle and I was
(06:50):
just looking across the huddle and I saw Gino. I
just saw him smiling. I don't know if anybody else
saw him, but I saw him smiling. I was like, oh, yeah,
we're winning this game for sure. So when you have
guys like that in that com finished level, man, you know,
it takes this guy's a limit.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
Yeah, I mean eighty yards you know that, and no
fuel go. I mean you got to get the touchdown.
Speaker 6 (07:09):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (07:09):
What did you guys say anything going into that final drive,
because you guys did seem pretty confident.
Speaker 7 (07:14):
In that drive, I'm telling you, man, that I was
in the huddle that very first play, I saw Gino.
Speaker 6 (07:19):
He just took over.
Speaker 7 (07:20):
He he knew he was going to go win that game,
and we all we can do is back him up
as teammates. So guys went out there, we executed the
extremely high level and you know, you saw what Gino
did in the last play.
Speaker 4 (07:30):
You got Oluis you mentioned that, you know, Connor Williams
retire and obviously probably a shock to all of you,
but you get Olu.
Speaker 5 (07:37):
You got you gotta be excited for him.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
Talk about going into that game just knowing you got
Olu in the forty nine ers, what your mindset was
and at what point during the game did you stop
thinking of okay oluse in here, I.
Speaker 7 (07:51):
Would say from the very first play, you know, from
the very first play, you know we had like through
our meetings last week, we had our goals that we
had for our offensive line, and from the very first play,
just going back and looking at iPad and seeing all
the knockdown, I was like, yeah, he's good to go.
He's prepared, man, And throughout the whole entire work week
as well, he's just been on the p's and q's
(08:11):
h hyping the guys up, leading the charge. And that's
big for a center, you know, especially for a guy
coming in, you know, with new communication, you guys around him.
So I'm so proud of him. He thought I thought
he played his butt off. So I'm really proud of him.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
All right, So I'm gonna take you back to the island.
When I think of Jamaica athletes, one, I think of
sprinters all day, right, fastest human beings in the world.
Speaker 6 (08:34):
I'm not I'm not a sprinting there. I'm gitting there.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
I'm getting there. I'm getting there. And and then I
think of soccer. I think that's that's a national sport.
But you decided to play football. How did you get
from Jamaica to the NFL?
Speaker 6 (08:49):
So, uh, you know when I when I first moved
to the States.
Speaker 7 (08:53):
You know, we moved to Chicago, and you know my grandmam,
you know, God bless her, and she was real good
to us.
Speaker 6 (08:59):
So she gave us a lot of food when we
came in.
Speaker 7 (09:02):
I'm talking about like first time having pizza, the first
time having a cheeseburger, like ice cream, like always in
the fridge, the freezer, and I was just either it's
the first time having that abundance, abundance of food. So,
you know me and being a young kid, I was like, man,
I'm maxing out everything. So mind you know, we weren't
outside like we usually were. We're in Jamaica, and Jamaica
(09:24):
we have a lot of open area, a lot of
free roam. You can go out play soccer, cricket, whatever
you want to do. But in Chicago, you know, it's cold.
You know you don't want to be out in the
streets late at night and stuff like that. So I
spent a lot of times inside, you know, a lot
of times inside, eating.
Speaker 6 (09:39):
A lot of food.
Speaker 7 (09:40):
I got big, and I had to tell I'll tell
some people the story that I gained like fifty pounds
in the summer. They don't believe me. I was like, yeah, man,
my body like exploded, needs hurt, ankles, hurt, everything. So
and that was I was eleven years old. Then I
get like a huge grospurt. My mom saw that and
she was like, you need to get out the house.
You need to good sports. So my uncle at.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
The Chicago Yeah, I mean it's all about hoop in Chicago.
Speaker 6 (10:05):
It's a it's all about hooping. Yeah, But I didn't
know nothing about hooping.
Speaker 7 (10:08):
I was watching the TV and my grandpa he talked
about the Chicago Bulls.
Speaker 6 (10:11):
I don't know what he's talking about. So I was like, yeah,
it's a basketball.
Speaker 7 (10:14):
Team, but I didn't even know where they're at yea,
So it was It was cool though, because my uncle
he brought me to my first practice my mom and
he was like, I think it would be really.
Speaker 6 (10:25):
Good at American football.
Speaker 7 (10:27):
So you know, I'm like, I really just did it
to please my mom, but it ended up being something
that changed my entire life.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
I say, pretty good, So let's keep moving. Now, how
do you end up going to Duke?
Speaker 7 (10:42):
Okay? So I I chose Duke. I was heavily recruited
out of high school. You know, Ohio State, UH, in
Northwestern u of I, all the schools in those areas,
Big ten uh. You know, they really they really recruited
me hard. But I got to get a shout out
to coach David Cluckliffe when he was at Duke at
the time he recruited. He recruited me extremely hard, came
(11:06):
to my home games him personally instead of sending a recruiter,
and he was there and he talked to me. I
went in an official visit there as well. And also,
I mean, you know, at the time it was in
the football powerhouse, but I knew what he could do
for me academically. And somebody told me back then that
a degree from Duke, you know, that's like a fifty
(11:26):
year commitmentp you know, so I really took that to heart.
And at the time systems of going on with my family.
My grandpa ended up passing away, and you know, he
had visited Jamaica and passed away at the hospital. So
that kind of really got to me, you know, as
a young kid in high school, and I did some
investigating and I just found out that the healthcare system
(11:47):
there was poor, and I wanted to do something about that.
I'm young kid, but I felt extremely ambitious about that.
So I saw football as a chance to you know,
attain a goal that I wanted for my self. That
was to be a doctor and give back to my country.
I want my ultimate goal, I was, I want to
build a hospital in Jamaica.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
That's awesome, man, for you to have the consciousness to
to kind of plan ahead, because a lot of young
folks don't do what they kind of live for the now,
and for you to be such a at a such
a young age and do that is awesome. I turned
down Stanford, man, you know I didn't. I didn't want
to go to Stanford. But but uh, man, just your
(12:27):
journey is amazing. I think it represents a lot of
what this country is about, right, just advancing yourself and
advancing your family. And uh, that is close to my
heart because you know how family.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
My wife is Latin.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
And their family comes Central America and they've done the
same thing. So I appreciate you sharing, sharing your story.
Another thing that impresses me about you, Man, it's hard
to play in the NFL. It is tough. Uh, you
got ten years in the game. Like what what do
you think has allowed you to prosper the way that
you have in the NFL?
Speaker 7 (13:00):
A man at first and foremost, Man, I gotta thank God,
you know. Uh, you know, without his blessing, I wouldn't
be here today talking to you. You know, So I
thank God, and you know, not not only giving me
the body to be able to withstand the work for
this amount of time, but give me a good brain
to be able to have the knowledge to take care
(13:21):
of myself. As well, because I put a lot of
time in u into my into my body in the
off season, you know, getting right whatever I need to
get right, staying strong, lifting weights, being conditioned, and which
sets me up for the season.
Speaker 6 (13:34):
You know.
Speaker 7 (13:35):
So I do put a lot of time in my
body off season and in season. And when young guys
come to me, it's kind of surprising now because I'm
og now, you know, when young guys come to me,
it was like, how do you you know, go about
your routine throughout the season. You know, I just go
back and just tell them all the stuff that I've
learned from guys.
Speaker 6 (13:53):
You know.
Speaker 7 (13:53):
When I was a young guy, you know, I was
in Detroit. One of my mentors was Megatron. He took
me under his wing and he told me, this is
all all the stuff that I do, you know, to
get ready for a game, and how I stack it
week to week to week.
Speaker 6 (14:06):
You know. So I just took that.
Speaker 7 (14:07):
To heart, man, and you know, I just remember, you know,
it's like I'm just gonna take it one day at
a time, one day at a time, you know, one
game at a time. And next thing, you know, I'm
in year ten. I was like, man, you know, I
tell that to a young guy. I was like, hey, man,
if you just take it one, one day at a time,
one game at a time, you'll be surprised.
Speaker 6 (14:24):
You surprise yourself how far you can go?
Speaker 4 (14:26):
Well, answermarket, you played fifty two games when you're at Duke,
you've played I don't know one hundred and fifty. Now
in the NFL, I gotta asked, do you how do
you feel right now?
Speaker 7 (14:38):
I feel great, you know, I feel really really great, man,
especially with this group offensive lineman, I got right now,
a lot of young guys around me, but that gives
me energy, you know, So I feel I feel really
good man.
Speaker 6 (14:48):
I'm healthy, I'm blessed man.
Speaker 7 (14:49):
Every day I get to walk around and hang out
with my kids and throw them up and play around
with them.
Speaker 6 (14:54):
So I feel really good man.
Speaker 8 (14:55):
Man.
Speaker 2 (14:56):
And you have a family, yes, so tell me about
the family as much as you want to tell me
about the thing. You know, some guys don't want to,
don't want to talk about and now respect that, but
you know, where'd you meet your wife?
Speaker 3 (15:06):
And how's your family doing out here in the Northwest?
Speaker 7 (15:09):
My family is good, man, So I'm and my wife.
Actually my freshman year at duke. We got together, same major.
She went off to did double major psychology and biology.
I had double major psychology and evolution athropology.
Speaker 4 (15:23):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (15:23):
We were like, we were just uh study buddies, you know,
together all the time. And then she actually went on
to UH she followed me to Detroit when I got drafted,
UH to go to med school in Michigan. So she
went to a PhD school in Michigan, a PhD school
in Michigan, and then we got married. When I got married,
(15:43):
I got traded. So she finished her PhD in Michigan.
I finished my contract in Detroit. She now has gotten
her residency and finished her residency in San Francisco. When
I was in San Francisco, I was in New York.
And between all of that, we've managed to have two
beautiful kids. My big girl Taylor, she's four years old,
(16:07):
and my son Leon is two years old.
Speaker 6 (16:09):
So we've been trucking along, man.
Speaker 7 (16:12):
But I'm so proud of her for sticking to, you know,
her dreams as well and allowing me to chase my
dreams as well.
Speaker 6 (16:18):
Man.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
That's beautiful, that's awesome. We appreciate you taking time out
of your day today, man. Give it one more time
for Lake and Thomason. All right, we'll we come back again.
In a proonent preview from Darren Urban from Azcardinals dot Com.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
That's next here on Hawks.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
Love hawkss Live presented by the Dining District at the
Bellevue Collection at Bellevue Square Center Court, live on air
on Seattle Sports.
Speaker 2 (16:45):
Welcome back to Hawks Live presented by the Dining District
at the Bellevue Collection of Michael Bumpas with Paul Boyer
and now we are joined by Darrenerban from Azcardinals dot Com.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
Darren, how we're doing doing good?
Speaker 8 (17:01):
How are you guys?
Speaker 3 (17:03):
We're doing well, man, Thanks for joining us.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
It's daylight saving times here, but in Arizona, y'all don't
care about that, so time doesn't change for you.
Speaker 8 (17:10):
Huhay, correct, So we're currently an hour later than you
right now.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
All right, there we go. Hey man, it's a question
in a statement. I guess because the more film i
watch on the Arizona Cardinals, the more I'm impressed with
the way Kyler Murray is standing in the pocket and
delivering the football. I got his size, obviously, you know
we're familiar with that here in Seattle. Dealing with Russell Wilson.
The knock on those guys are they cannot throw from
(17:37):
the pocket. But for some reason, I'm watching Kyler Murray
go to work and he's good in that pocket. Why
do you think all of a sudden he's he's comfy
back there.
Speaker 8 (17:47):
I think he is really meshed well with this offense
that coordinator Drew Petsing brought in here. I can't overstate
the comfort level really of everything they're doing doing offensively
and how much better he feels, maybe compared to what
he was doing before with Cliff Kingsbury. So I think
(18:07):
that's a big part of it. I think they've worked
very hard on getting him to really improve in that aspect,
and that's that's a big part of it too. And
and again they've got a running game now where the
play action works a little bit better. You know, all
you got to do is hopefully make those defenders hesitate
(18:27):
for just a second and that can clear up some
space for you. But I agree with you, I think
he's gotten tremendously better in the pocket, and it's it's
paying off for this offense.
Speaker 4 (18:38):
You know, it's tough to get a lot of fans
support down there, but it feels like it's there. I'm
I'm a Sun Devil, so I was down for the
ASU University of Central Florida game.
Speaker 5 (18:50):
You know, not not a ton of buzz. It feels
like it is now.
Speaker 4 (18:53):
So who's getting the most love right now, the Cardinals
or a SU.
Speaker 8 (18:59):
Well that that's a great question.
Speaker 9 (19:01):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (19:01):
You know, as a fellow Sun Devil myself, I'm certainly
appreciating everything Kenny Dillingham is doing with the Sun Devils
because they've taken incredible strides in a short period of time.
But in a lot of ways, that's the Cardinals story too.
I mean, we're talking about a team that has really
struggled the last couple of years. I think when Maniasen Fort,
(19:22):
the GM and Gannon came in last year, I think
the thought process was it might take a couple of
years for them to really compete. And uh, and I
know this roster is not where they want it to
be yet, but they're playing good football right now. They
they've really created an identity of physical football and running
running the ball. And I know, I know a lot
(19:44):
of teams and coaches want to believe that their team
is really physical, but we all know that there are
some teams in the NFL that are more than others,
and it really feels like the Cardinals have taken that
step forward. And going back to what we were talking
about Kyler again, you're you're talking about a guy who
now doesn't have to be Superman on every play because
they can run the ball with James Connor and they
(20:05):
can run the ball with Treat Bench and then they
can do some different things. And I think that's made
a big difference. In getting back to your original question,
I think there's a lot of buzz right now for
both sides. And you know, the Sun Devils are hosting
BYU this weekend and if they win, they actually have
a chance to get to the Big Bull title game.
But if the Cardinals win this weekend, you know, all
(20:26):
of a sudden, you got a seven or four team
in a division where it's a division title. It would
be very achievable. And I think right now it's gonna
be neck connect with those two programs.
Speaker 5 (20:37):
Well, if I can pick one, I'm gonna pick a
issue then that does not surprise me.
Speaker 8 (20:42):
But I'll give you that one that's understandable coming from
where you're coming from.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
Hey, Darren, there are some weapons on offense for this team.
You got James in the backfield, Marvin Harrison mc bride,
but also, like Michael Wilson and I worked for the
Rest in Peace Pact told Network on now c W,
I'll let you boy on the weekends. But there's a
lot of skill over there. What are you guys feeling
(21:09):
about the future of this offense when it comes to
just the skill positions.
Speaker 8 (21:15):
I think obviously when they drafted Harrison, that was a
big step in the right direction. I mean, Trey McBride
the last half of last year really showed what he
was going to be able to be once Kyler Murray
came back from his injury, and I think he's just
doing the things that people assumed he was going to
continue to do. And I do think he's got a
chance to be, if not the best tight end in
(21:37):
the league. Definitely in the conversation of the top three.
He's played excellent football once Marvin Harrison completely makes his
transition from the college game, and I do think there's
still a learning curve that he's handling at this point.
I think the skill position situation, they got Trey Benson
as a running back behind James Connor too. I think
(21:58):
it has a chance to be really, really good. And
I know it's not skilled positions, but they've done a
nice job with their offensive line too. This this unit
is only getting better, and I think you've seen that
the last couple of weeks.
Speaker 4 (22:12):
Yeah, I would say the big surprise is that defense.
I mean, I don't think a lot of people thought
they're gonna be that good. But over the last few games,
you know, one of the top five defenses in the league,
and you talk about physical and is it Kayzer? Is
that how you say his name because you're wait, I
mean the way he diagnoses things. But talk about maybe
(22:33):
some guys there, Look, we all know Buddha Baker went
to Bellevue, went to University Washington's still phenomenal player. And
maybe a couple of guys on that defense that maybe
are not household names.
Speaker 8 (22:44):
Well, I mean, I think it's pretty much everybody but
Buota probably at this point our household names. And I
think in a lot of ways, this defense has become
greater than the sum of its parts. And I think
that's a credit to defensive coordinator Nicol and I think
it's a credit to the scheme that they've created. And
(23:05):
again when I mentioned that the roster isn't quite where
they want it yet, I think defense is the place
where they're really going to be looking hard. They lost
b j O Jalari, who they thought was going to
be their top pass rusher, to an injury in training camp.
They haven't had a first round pick Darius Robinson, a
defensive lineman, yet to play yet this year, so they're
doing it shorthanded. And I know a lot of teams
(23:26):
deal with injuries, but it's been remarkable now. I think
the last couple of weeks they haven't given up a
touchdown a two games. I think there's some contact needed.
I mean, you have played the Bears in the Jets.
It's not like they're playing juggernaut offenses. But they're playing
a very high level of football right now, and they
come together as a group. And again, Rales has done
a great job of mixing and matching his personnel to
(23:48):
be the best it can be when it needs to be.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
He is Darren Urbin Fromazcardinals dot com. We appreciate your
time and hopefully we'll talk to you so well, Actually
you know what, we'll talk to you in a couple
of weeks.
Speaker 3 (24:02):
Let's do that.
Speaker 8 (24:03):
I can I can do that.
Speaker 5 (24:05):
I can do that, and go Devil, Go devils.
Speaker 3 (24:08):
You got it, Hey, go go cook. I'm not a hater.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
I'm just gonna say go. Kok's all right, all right,
look at you see that sweater.
Speaker 5 (24:18):
This is what I gotta deal with stuff here.
Speaker 2 (24:23):
But you guys are doing some good things. I'll shake
your hand, all right, guys doing some good things.
Speaker 6 (24:27):
All right.
Speaker 2 (24:30):
Hey, coming up next man, we'll chat with Seahawks defensive
lineman Derek called us next here on Hawk's Live.
Speaker 1 (24:37):
Hawkss Live presented by the Dining District at the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Squares Center Court, live on air on
Seattle Sports.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
Welcome to Hawks Live presented by the Dining Just at
the Bellby Collection on Michael Bumps.
Speaker 3 (24:53):
With my guy, Paul Moller.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
Now we are joined by the man himself, stright out
of Auburn, d Hall. Derek Hall, how you doing. We're
good man. Thanks for taking time out of your Thursday.
We know you could be doing other things, but you're
on the phone with us right now.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
Man. We appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (25:13):
It's been it's been fun watching the evolution of this defense.
I think that the common fan might panic, but thankfully
you're talking to Paul Moyer and myself and we don't panic.
We kind of see what's going on there and kind
of see how you guys are taking steps forward. How
do you feel about this defense and the way you
guys have progressed over the season, pumplished, All right, Hey,
(25:44):
we're gonna let d Hall go right now. The connection
isn't great, So I'm gonna ask you that question. Paul Moyer,
how has it been watching the progression of this defense.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
At times frustrating? And then the last two weeks it's
been what we all hoped it would be. And I
feel like we're finally settling into coach McDonald's defense. And
I think he said something about when he traded or
not traded but they released Dotson, was you got to
play team defense? Yeah, you've got to be coachable on
(26:16):
this because certainly wasn't that Dodson isn't a good football player.
He was, and uh, I thought, we know they put
in you know, Tyrese Knight. I thought he played really well.
Derek Hall, who's only a twenty three year old young man,
he's got to me he's made the biggest improvement from
last year to this year of anybody on our team.
But let's see if Derek can answer that better than me.
Speaker 3 (26:38):
All right, back to Derek Hall, Derek, how are we doing.
Speaker 10 (26:41):
I'm good, I'm good.
Speaker 2 (26:42):
My bad.
Speaker 10 (26:43):
I live up on his mountain, so service goes in
and out.
Speaker 3 (26:48):
Hey, no words.
Speaker 6 (26:49):
I know what it's like.
Speaker 2 (26:50):
I live in the country, and so I understand that
for sure. Man, did you lose your power? What's your
situation looking like?
Speaker 6 (26:57):
I did?
Speaker 10 (26:58):
I did? I don't have any power. I found a
I tried to find a generator yesterday, couldn't find one.
Speaker 6 (27:04):
So I found one.
Speaker 10 (27:05):
I just as soon as I got off work, I
drove all the way to Seattle. It took me hour
feet two minutes to get there, in almost two hours
to get back. So but I got the generator, got
the hot walk.
Speaker 6 (27:16):
It's ups.
Speaker 10 (27:16):
We can take them hot shot, all.
Speaker 4 (27:20):
Right, it's it's it's good to have generators out here.
We got we got a lot of trees. Hey, what
what a difference just a few weeks make. When you
guys play San Francisco the first time, they have five
plays for two hundred and forty yards. They barely had
two hundred and forty yards this past game. You didn't
have a run from a running back. Matter fact, McCaffrey's
(27:42):
longest run was eleven yards, only one.
Speaker 5 (27:44):
Play over twenty two yards.
Speaker 4 (27:47):
You know, just talk about the why, what what changed
from the first time you guys played San Francisco a
few weeks ago to what you guys got this past Sunday.
Speaker 10 (27:57):
Yeah, I just think it goes back. I mean, like
I was, I was trying to say initiate that that
first meeting we had on April eight with Mike was about,
you know, the execution details and execution, and I think
that's really what that game came down to. Obviously, you know,
you play each other twice a year, so you know
each other really really well, and going to that game,
we know ever think that they were going to do.
And you know, the biggest thing, brothers just lined up
doing our job consistently and doing that down at the down.
(28:19):
So I feel like, if anything is the biggest difference
that game was just execution and everybody doing their job
time at the time.
Speaker 2 (28:25):
At the time, man, there's nothing like winning games at home,
but there's nothing like going on the road into somebody's
house and looking at their crowd and sending them home.
Speaker 3 (28:37):
What do you think that did for the morale of
this football team.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
I know you guys are never down your professionals, but
there's something I would assume there's something to beating the
Niners at their house, making a sandwich in their kitchen
and then leaving that thing.
Speaker 10 (28:51):
Oh yeah, for sure. The energy, you know, the energy
to poise and just just to giving us up that
team with there. Man, after you know we got in
the locker room, was able to cell thebrate. Obviously I
wasn't here in twenty two, but you know we lost
to him twice last year and you know been losing
to him here quite frequently the past couple of years.
To be able to go out and get that win. Man,
the show we can do as an organization and show
(29:11):
what the Seahawks team and but most specifically Deference is
really about. Man, they did a lot, you know for
that team.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
Is just I'm more out, Derek.
Speaker 4 (29:21):
You've had what we think is probably the biggest jump
from from last year. I would say the most improved,
that's the right word. But I think you've made the
biggest jump from as a player last year to this year,
what did you do one maybe just in the offseason,
and what have you improved on the most from last
year to this year.
Speaker 10 (29:40):
The big thing for me going to the offseason was,
you know, okay, rookery'ars done. It didn't go the way
I expected. But even in that year, you know, there
were some plays that I did make that you know,
it just kind of got swept under rug because you know,
I probably didn't make the big plays or you know,
all the big shots of big hits, a big sacks.
But I feel like throughout it last year, you know
I made if you plays here in there, that spot, okay,
you know, like maybe I can do this thing. So
(30:01):
don't want's confidence, you know, really trying to believe in
myself and know that I can go out and play
this game at the highest level. And then number two
is watching the tape and going back and evaluating. Okay,
you know my run defense is always pretty solid, but
where can I get better in the pass RUSS game?
And you know, I feel like that was the biggest
thing for me, So being able to work my pass
rush and you know, do hands on boxing and you know,
just different things like that hand on hand comeback, you know,
(30:24):
just really try to see hand and feet work together,
and then also just trying to put my mental piece
into it to be able to give myself the best
chance to come out this year and be more effective
in the pass rush.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
Hey, as you know, and I think the more you'll
experience it as you you know, continue your journey in
the league. Like things are going to change in the NFL, right,
rosses are never the same management, They're gonna make moves
to try to better their team. You guys got new linebackers,
you got a new addition to the defensive line. How
do you think those guys have enhanced what you guys
are trying to do with this defense? Because it's clear
(30:56):
to us watching this game that things feel like they're
they're fitting a bit better.
Speaker 10 (31:02):
Yeah, I think, uh, you know, just to start up front. Uh,
you know, Roy dude's amazing. Uh He's very versatile. Can
play end, you know, can play tackle, can play nose.
I mean he can do it all across the front.
So being able to have a guy like him that's
very versatile.
Speaker 6 (31:16):
He kinds of.
Speaker 10 (31:17):
Remind me a lot of Draymond, but a lot bigger body.
And uh, you know, a bigger guy that could take
up more space, but I mean he can, he can
play across the front ability to have him that's versative
move around, you really can't get a beat on him.
And to tie him in with Leo dre Reed, Byron
Draymond and then us on the edge as well, me
and Boyer and and you know everybody across the front. Man,
he's been a really really good addition. Then you get
in the linebacker room with a straight dog man E.
(31:39):
I mean he comes in from day one, you know,
leader commands, talks well, leaves his defense really really well.
Uh you know when he got the roll of the
Green diy Man. He brings poise, brings confidence, and he
brings clarity, uh you know, on the field and off
the field. So you know, we got we got a
good a good group of guys. Man, and those two
are really really good additions for us.
Speaker 4 (31:59):
You know, we're not in the locker room with you,
and we're not there every practice, but just talking with
a couple guys, and it feels like everybody knows their
role right now. And there's something about the vibe the
last two weeks of this team, it just seems different.
Speaker 8 (32:17):
Is is it?
Speaker 4 (32:18):
I mean, do you guys, is there a different type
of confidence you guys have in yourself right now than
maybe even three weeks ago.
Speaker 10 (32:26):
I wouldn't say a different type of confidence, but I
mean obviously everyone said does success does bring confidence? So
I feel like there is some of that there. But
I feel like we've always known who we are and
what we could be. And you know, the biggest thing
now is just stacking. You know, we win a game
and then we come back and you know, don't perform
so well. We win a game, we come back and
don't perform so well. So now the biggest thing for
(32:47):
us just continitia to stack and continue to do what
we know we're capable of every single Sunday. That's to
go out and play our best ball. And you know,
we preach the team, the team, the team. So the
biggest thing is just about man going out doing your job,
doing your role, and doing anything to help it even
be successful on any given Sunday. And you know, I
kind of feel like that's that's what we're chasing.
Speaker 3 (33:05):
Hey, Derek.
Speaker 2 (33:06):
Football is one of the only sports major sports in
this country where the offense has a set of personnel
and the defense has a set of personnel. So what
was it like for you guys on the defense sitting
on the sidelines watching your offense go to work to
win this game. Because I've been on the other side
and I was I'd be stressed out. I'm thinking, Okay, let's.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
Get this thing done.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
What was it like for you guys to sit back
and watch your offense go down the field and win
the game for you?
Speaker 10 (33:33):
Yeah, I mean it was It was great for us
because you know, we're we're the one you know usually
on the field. They put us in the position to
go out and win those games. So it was good
be able to go out, man, sit back and relaxing
and just watch those guys go to work. I mean
from the receiver room to the to the to the
quarterback and Gino and K nine and Zach. I mean,
we just got guys across man, Charles and those guys
(33:53):
and Aid and having a back and leading the front,
and Olu stepping up and played the way he played. Man,
We we had extreme top and listen them to go
out and get the job done. Just the way they
prepare throughout the week and the way that they you know,
coming to practice and coming to work every day. So uh,
you know, we knew if we get an opportunity to
go back out on the field, man, that then we're
going to get the job done. So it was good
to see. Like I said, it's always good to you know,
to go in somebody else's backyard.
Speaker 8 (34:14):
And get a win.
Speaker 4 (34:16):
Well, you guys have won a couple of games on
the road so far this year. But how was this
plane ride? Was it a little better than than some
other road victories? Oh?
Speaker 3 (34:28):
It was.
Speaker 10 (34:29):
This playing round was really really good man. Obviously Number
one just to being shorter, Uh, not having to travel
four hours down to Atlanta or you know, going to
these coasts and Detroit or anywhere like that adrenals So
the player Roude in the one was shorter. But uh, yeah, man,
it was. It's always a good player Roude, you know,
like you said, going going somewhere else and coming back
with a road win. So I feel like we all
(34:50):
treated the same. But just the quick turnaround and the
shortness of the trip is really good. I think everybody's
ready to get home and be with their families.
Speaker 4 (34:57):
Well, I could tell you the twelves were pretty pumped
because the forty nine Ers are the least favorite. I
won't say most hated because everyone says don't use hate,
but the least favorite of any team that you guys play.
Speaker 5 (35:09):
So twelve's are ready for this this weekend against Arizona.
Speaker 10 (35:14):
Oh yeah, you know there. They bring the energy, they
bring the party. You know, they make that house rock.
So we're we're looking forward to having them there and
cheering us on come this Sunday.
Speaker 2 (35:24):
Well, Derek, I know, for one, you're playing rivals full
of water and hydration. Back in our day, Me and
boy we're getting after but y'all better than us. So
we appreciate everything you're doing on the football field.
Speaker 9 (35:36):
Man.
Speaker 2 (35:36):
It's fun to watch you grow as as an individual as.
Speaker 3 (35:39):
A football player.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
We appreciate your time in and go do your thing
this weekend.
Speaker 10 (35:45):
I appreciate you, man. Thank y'all for taking your time
and having me on.
Speaker 3 (35:48):
All right, appreciate it. Give it one more time up
for Derek Hall. Let's go do some things this weekend.
Speaker 2 (35:53):
Okay, when we come back, we'll give you a high
level preview what's to come. That's a Arizona Cardinals that's
coming up next right here on Hawk's.
Speaker 1 (35:59):
Live, HAWKSS Live presented by the Dining District of the
Bellevue Collection at Bellevue Square Center Court, live on air
on Seattle Sports.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
You are listening to Hawk Slide, presented by the Dining
District at the Beallvy Collection. The show starts at seven
every Thursday right here on Seattle's four seven to ten,
broadcasting live from Bellvy Squares in the Court.
Speaker 3 (36:22):
I'm Michael Pumpus with.
Speaker 2 (36:24):
My guy Paul Moyer aka Paul Moyer Moyer. This football
team that we're gonna play this weekend. Yeah, first in
the division. Yeah, it's pretty good. Yeah, I didn't I
didn't drink the kool aid all right. Once I stopped
drinking kool Ai when I was like twelve, because I
realized how bad it was for you, all the sugar
we put in it. But I stopped drinking a kool
(36:45):
A good and then I started drinking a kool A.
The more film that I watch on these guys, because
when you think of the Arizona Cardinals, you don't think
of a team that's first in the division, that is
one of the best teams running the football, that has
a quarterback that's being responsible with the rock. That's exactly
who they are when you watch them. Kyler Murray is
putting together a nice season in this offense. I heard
(37:07):
Mike McDonald talk about it in his presser today or yesterday,
and he said synergy, And I love that word. Synergy
is a great word. You're a president of a company,
you know what synergy means. And that's what I see
when I look at this offense. I see synergy and
it It doesn't make me word to be worried because
I know that every game in the NFL is gonna
be tough.
Speaker 3 (37:26):
There's hardly any blowouts.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
But I look at this Arizona Cardinals team and I
respect him a bit more today than I did yesterday.
Speaker 4 (37:33):
Well, Kyler Murray will start there. Offensively, he's just a
hard guy to game plan, and I think the biggest
reason why there's because things can break down and he
can continue to make make a play.
Speaker 5 (37:50):
So that's gonna be tough.
Speaker 4 (37:53):
They have a running game, obviously, But I think the
other thing is, you know, adding Marvin Harrison Junior with
the other skill sets, and they got a really good
tight end who's gonna be a matchup nightmare for us. Defensively,
they've gotten a little better, but man. I like how
we're matched up two. I think you've got one who
will match up really well versus Martin Harrison Junior, because
(38:16):
they'd like to go deep. With Marvin Harrison, I mean
he has got I was looking at the number of
deep throws that they do to him. I mean it's
probably twenty twenty five percent. You know the time they're
gonna go deep. I like that matchup. We match up
across the board with them, so I think it's gonna
be a great game, and I think after Sunday they're
gonna be They're gonna be in second place basically because
(38:37):
we got the tiebreaker on them. So now I'm excited
for this when they're both playing well. I just feel
like the last two weeks defensively, what we've done versus
the Rams, who are tough for US forty nine ers,
who made them look very pedestrian, we looked. We made
them look like an average offensive team and they're not.
Speaker 3 (38:55):
I like that.
Speaker 4 (38:55):
I thought the way we were so disciplined, because you
have to be disciplined against forty nine ers.
Speaker 5 (39:00):
The way you read, they do a lot of misdirection,
a lot of motion.
Speaker 4 (39:03):
They bring guys coming from the other side, they pull guards,
they bring wings or tight ends across the field, and
then they'll do they'll hand the ball to the running
back deep, like six seven yards deep, so that he
can do all kinds of cutbacks and find some lanes.
We were really disciplined, did and give up a big run.
So it's all to me about Kyler bur You got
to keep him. We got to get gut pressure up
(39:25):
the middle, and you cannot get past him. You cannot
run behind him because he does and he breaks the pocket.
Speaker 5 (39:31):
He's a problem.
Speaker 2 (39:32):
You know what, I hate falling in love with concepts.
I hate falling in love with an offense. And that's
what I did when I watched the Arizona offense. I
understand what they're trying to do. They have two back
sets with Kyler in the shotgun position. Typically he's under
centered when that happens, but he will be under centered.
Speaker 3 (39:52):
The thing that.
Speaker 2 (39:55):
Concerned me the most is when I saw him under center, Lawyer,
he goes back, he dropped, he fakes the play action, boom,
he brings it here, shifts it to his left hand,
continues the play action with that offhand, and then rolls out.
I go, oh, he's comfy, he's comfortable in this offense.
For him to do all of that in a play action,
that word me a little bit, and I think that's
(40:17):
something that the Hawks have to be concerned about. But
also that they've seen before because Rock Party does the
same thing and Matthew Stafford does the same thing. They've
seen something like this before, but I don't think they've
seen a quarterback that can run like this so far
this year.
Speaker 8 (40:32):
Now.
Speaker 4 (40:32):
No, Well, first, you know Lamar Jackson, then would be
a good race. I'm not sure who i'd put my
money on on a forty. I'd probably give it to Kyler.
Speaker 5 (40:41):
I don't know. They're both.
Speaker 4 (40:43):
Two athletes, two quarterbacks that are the fastest guys on
the field, and that's pretty rare in itself. One thing
Kyler does that is unique also.
Speaker 5 (40:53):
He gets really deep.
Speaker 4 (40:55):
He likes to get deep because he wants to be
able to see things in front of him. And he's short, right,
so he's got to get a deep drop so there's
no gut pressure for him. So he gets deep, and
the challenge for the defenses now he's created space on
his own and he's so hard to sack. I mean,
that's one thing he hasn't taken a lot of sacks
this year. He hasn't town a lot of interceptions. He's
(41:16):
not afraid to throw the ball over the middle to
a lot of guys who are short.
Speaker 2 (41:19):
Are I thought about you when I saw that, because
I watched he had about eight completions against the Jets
over the middle.
Speaker 3 (41:28):
He had twelve against Miami.
Speaker 2 (41:30):
There's another game where he had sixteen, and I automatically
thought about brock Perdy and how you diagnosed him and
said he likes to throw outside the numbers. The fact
that this guy had what five nine maybe going over
the middle. So then I start to ask myself, Okay,
how is he capable of doing that? His arm slide,
He will release the ball from so far up and
get over the middle of the field. I think he
(41:51):
might be one of the first quarterbacks to kind of
get rid of the stigma that all right, small guys
can't throw across the middle.
Speaker 5 (41:56):
But he does it different.
Speaker 4 (41:59):
I mean, Russell has a real high release too, right,
You've got big hands, high release, He's got pretty long arm,
but his kryptonite is has got pressure. You know, if
they get within a yard or two, russ really struggles
Kyler gets so deep and he's not afraid to get deep.
A lot of guys are you know one that's a
long throw to You know what if I get up
(42:21):
a sack, you get deep there. You also it's easier
for the edge rushers to get around right that the
pockets becomes easier for him. But he doesn't care about
that because if you go high, which he invites you
go high on me, I'm a step up and he's
going to work as well his way outside. So this
(42:41):
game plan has got to be just as good as
last week's against the forty nine ers. And the one
thing we've proven now is we connection you kid, a
great game plan and we've got players.
Speaker 3 (42:52):
Man.
Speaker 4 (42:52):
We If you want to watch a great defensive performance,
just go watch our game last week. Go watch every
player from as many different angles as you can, and
you'll walk away and go, wow, we've got we got ballers, man,
They get after it.
Speaker 2 (43:08):
My man really believes this. He was texting me at
midnight twelve six twelve o six. Look at play twenty nine,
look at play thirty eight, Look at this play.
Speaker 3 (43:18):
He's breaking it down.
Speaker 2 (43:19):
If he is excited about this defense, I'm even more excited.
Speaker 4 (43:23):
I'm not doing it tonight because I have power back
and I can actually watch TV instead.
Speaker 3 (43:27):
So it's only when we have nothing to do is
when you text me.
Speaker 5 (43:31):
Look, I called you. I called you at midnight. You
were my midnight call.
Speaker 2 (43:35):
I don't see the last us order. First thought, I
don't know. I don't know how to take that.
Speaker 5 (43:39):
You were the first person at midnight I called.
Speaker 3 (43:41):
All right, sounds good, I'll take that.
Speaker 2 (43:43):

Collection at Bellevue Squares Center Court, every Thursday from seven
to nine live on air on Seattle Sports.
Speaker 2 (44:18):
No.
Speaker 1 (44:18):
If you're your hosts Michael Bumpis and Paul Moyer.
Speaker 2 (44:23):
Welcome back to Hawk's Live of Michael Bumpus with my
guy Paul Moyer. We're sitting here with the greatest fans
in all of the land. We appreciate you guys joining
us live and on the radio. It's time to go
around the NFL. What's going down. I'll tell you what's
going down right now, Paul Moyer. Paul Moyer, the Steelers
(44:44):
are winning nineteen to eighteen on Thursday Night Football. You
and I and our producer of this show, Nasa Choby,
we're having a conversation off here.
Speaker 5 (44:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (44:56):
And the question was are we really rooting for Russell
Wilson or are we just saying, Oh, he's a nice guy.
Speaker 3 (45:03):
I'll tell you what I think. I'm rooting for him.
Speaker 5 (45:05):
All right.
Speaker 2 (45:06):
He went to Denver, he gave us those picks, we
got Charles Cross, we got no offense, and some other things.
And then he was humble. Right, you go in, you
ask for all these things. I need my office, I
need my people to have hotel rooms. And as soon
as Sean Payton comes in, he shuts that down. And
I think it was good for him to shut him down.
But I think that he also disrespected a man who's
(45:28):
a nine time Pro Bowler, and it made him feel
like he didn't have a good season. He threw like
twenty six touchdowns and eighty interceptions, so he had a
good No, I don't feel bad for him. I feel
like he wasn't treated fairly that first year.
Speaker 3 (45:40):
Okay, it is what it is.
Speaker 2 (45:41):
And then I understand why Sean Payton would come in
and try to shake things up. But if your quarterback
is playing for you, he's having a decent season. I
didn't like the disrespect.
Speaker 4 (45:49):
So you're pulling for him, like, so you like I'm
pulling forward. You go and check out his stats every week? Yeah, okay,
I do, all right? So well, I check out lots
of stats every week, not just is so. I'm an analyst,
is what I do.
Speaker 6 (46:02):
I know.
Speaker 4 (46:02):
But in this one we're talking about Russell though. Yeah so,
and for Russell though, you go out of your way
to see his stay.
Speaker 3 (46:09):
It's part of my prep every day for work.
Speaker 5 (46:10):
I mean, do you go look at Daniel Jones's sets?
Speaker 3 (46:13):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (46:14):
All right, So you're just trying not to answer the question.
Speaker 3 (46:17):
Oh no, I answered your question. You just didn't like
my answer, wife, I need to I need to say this.
Speaker 5 (46:24):
Whoa whoa wo.
Speaker 3 (46:25):
So let me what do you want me to say?
Speaker 5 (46:27):
I'll tell you after.
Speaker 4 (46:30):
You know, you never correct you're person you love in
front of other people, you do it in private.
Speaker 3 (46:36):
Correct.
Speaker 4 (46:37):
And So here's how I feel about Russ. I'm gonna
use a little bit of a girlfriend analogy here, right. So,
when Russ left, we broke up, right, I heard a
little bit. I did not want him to have success.
It's been three years now, you know, I'm like, I'm
over it. And at the same time, it's like, yeah,
(46:57):
I don't wish them. I don't wish them ill Will.
I hope that he has a good life and he
has success. I'm not going out of my way thinking
about him having success. I'm not following him on social
media anymore. That train has left. But I'm not wishing
any ill Will. Hope he does well.
Speaker 5 (47:15):
But that's it.
Speaker 4 (47:16):
I'm not it's no more. I mean, it's kind of
like sometimes you go, oh, that guy's really nice guy.
He's a really good guy. Huh, right before he put
the butt and start to dog him. You know, I
kind of feel that way. I go, is are we
being fake on yet we're really rooting for Russ.
Speaker 2 (47:32):
I'm not being fake, I really am. I know, all right,
So here's my question to you. You want him back
back at now? I don't want to back to stay there?
Speaker 5 (47:39):
All right?
Speaker 3 (47:40):
I'm good, all right, I'm good. See I you know what.
I I live my life differently.
Speaker 2 (47:45):
You know.
Speaker 3 (47:45):
I look at my girlfriend from high school and then
I say.
Speaker 2 (47:49):
Prosper, two beautiful kids, good husband.
Speaker 3 (47:53):
Yeah, I want you to prosper. All right, So here's
my question to you.
Speaker 2 (47:56):
There are no quarterbacks in the NFL that you check
couple and like, I want to how's Lamar doing, How's
how's uh Josh doing?
Speaker 3 (48:04):
How's party? I know you're not going party, but you
know you check them out.
Speaker 5 (48:08):
Guys.
Speaker 2 (48:08):
You're you're a football enthusiast. You mean to tell me
that you don't look at any scores and say, let's
see what this guy did this week.
Speaker 4 (48:18):
So I'm gonna I'm in a different place than you are.
My daily job isn't that yours? This you you've got
to be up on it. My job is it's all
about what the Seahawks just did and where they're going.
So I'm all on Kyler Kyler Murray right now, I
was just on party. I'm not looking at I don't
know Lamar Jackson's stats. I don't know Russell Wilson.
Speaker 5 (48:41):
Actually I do.
Speaker 4 (48:41):
We've talked about like he was at fifty eight percent passing, right,
So maybe I'm still not over him yet.
Speaker 5 (48:47):
But no, I I I'm not.
Speaker 4 (48:51):
I don't do fantasy football anymore. So I've lost that edge.
So I'm going a difference. You might be the minority,
I might be you might be the minority.
Speaker 2 (49:00):
But but but that also gives you a lot more
peace of mind because when you're trying to keep up
with all these guys and what's going on, I think
that it allows you to h to get emotions involved
in stuff. The only only only team I'm really emotion
about all the Seahawks. But then I also want to
see Russ do well. I want to see all like
(49:20):
the top five quarterbacks. I want to see them do
well because I think it's good for the league.
Speaker 5 (49:25):
Now I don't. I don't wish that at all.
Speaker 4 (49:26):
But you know, I partly is I don't have Partly
I don't have time. Right again, you talk, you have
to talk about it every day every day.
Speaker 6 (49:33):
I don't.
Speaker 4 (49:34):
I talk about it on Thursdays pretty much, and then
nine hours on Sundays. I just got to know who
we're playing, who we just played. I like to watch
I do watch a lot of film, you know that.
But I watch a lot of film on Seahawks and
our next opponent. And that's where my expertise stops.
Speaker 3 (49:50):
Well, you got other stress.
Speaker 8 (49:52):
I do that.
Speaker 2 (49:53):
I got the stress of the NFL. You got the
stress of being a president of a company.
Speaker 8 (49:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (49:57):
So a lot of people all right, well what a
what else were we going to talk about? We kind
of flipped this thing.
Speaker 5 (50:04):
I don't know, high level.
Speaker 3 (50:05):
Oh no, this is why I wanted to talk to
you about.
Speaker 2 (50:07):
I know. Oh, the New York Football Giants. Drew Lock
goes over there. He's the number two. They say, look,
Drew Lock put himself him and his agent puts himtulf
in a position to where he hopefully can't compete for
a starting job against Daniel Jones. Daniel Jones is playing
just the way that we expected him to play.
Speaker 3 (50:26):
Not very good. They're taking on their season.
Speaker 2 (50:28):
They signed to Veto, not signed, but they promote da
Veto to the starting position. He was the number three quarterback.
Skip over, Drew Lock. Here's my theory. Season's over. They're
taking the Vito's super Italian. They want to connect with
the Italian culture out there. And no, no, no, do
you remember when DeVito was the starter, Italians were showing up.
(50:52):
It's a cultural thing.
Speaker 4 (50:54):
Who's that tight end? They had started with a B
He was Italian guy too. You know what's interesting about
the Giants and the Jets. The NFL is the one
sport you run a bad organization, you will be exposed. Yep,
you'll be exposed. Baseball you can outspend people, right, NBA
saying that I just got to get one or two
guys football because of the salary cap. You have got
(51:18):
to make a difference on the edges, you know. And
the Jets are horrible. I mean what he Johnson? I mean,
that's he's one of the worst owners. And it's it's
so weird because they're so successful away from it. And
obviously the Giants, who's just been a cluster. And I
don't get why they're not playing who's our guy?
Speaker 5 (51:40):
Law?
Speaker 4 (51:40):
I don't get that you're paying them five million dollars.
I don't I mean, I don't get. I mean don't
you want to see if that's a future.
Speaker 3 (51:46):
All for you.
Speaker 2 (51:47):
That's why they are clearly tanking with they want the
number one pick and they want to get your Sanders.
Speaker 4 (51:54):
I went funny story about de Vito. It's a high
school story Kevin DeVito. Kevin Vito went to high school
with him. My junior year, I wasn't going to play football.
I was just going to play basketball pretty much and
maybe baseball. But I had had knee surgery my sophomore year,
so I didn't play football at all. Any sport my sophomore.
Speaker 5 (52:12):
Yearly no, So my junior year, I'm like he does
now I was.
Speaker 4 (52:17):
I had a bone tumor and they had to go
in there and take a bone graph of my hip,
and I'm in a full cast for ninety nine or
nine months, full on cast, not one that moves around.
So anyways, fast forward, he goes, you wouldn't even make
our team, and I look at him. I go, first
of all, of course I'm gonna make the team. Even
(52:37):
though he had a really good high school team. I
ended up taking his position, and I always thank him.
Speaker 5 (52:42):
I go, Kevin Davito, Davito, I go, I gotta thank
you I go.
Speaker 4 (52:45):
Without you doing that, I go, I would not have
gone out there for football. I mean I wouldn't have
had the career I had. That's amazing.
Speaker 5 (52:52):
So there, so I have an infinity for Davidovito.
Speaker 3 (52:56):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (52:56):
Yeah, all right, so you're he's rooting Fordvito not you
lot make that clear.
Speaker 5 (53:00):
But he made me mad.
Speaker 6 (53:01):
I'm not rooting for him.
Speaker 5 (53:02):
It was ironic.
Speaker 3 (53:03):
All right.
Speaker 2 (53:04):
When we come back, man, we'll go inside the film.
We will break down Rock Party his pass intended for
Christian McCaffrey. Geno Smith plays All That's Next right here
on Hawk's Live.
Speaker 1 (53:15):
Hawkss Live presented by the Dining District of the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Squares Center, Cord Live on air on
Seattle Sports.
Speaker 2 (53:26):
Welcome back to Hawk's Live. Oh, Michael Bumpus with my
guy Paul Moyer. It is time now to do what
we love to do. We like to watch film. So
we're gonna do That're gonna break down some plays for you.
Let you know how we see this whole thing and
break it all down. This first play, Rock Party's pass,
intended for Christian McCaffrey, is intercepted by Jonathan Hankins.
Speaker 9 (53:46):
Tight slot near Sigh.
Speaker 6 (53:47):
Now in motion is Samuel back to the left.
Speaker 9 (53:50):
Berty wants to throw out of his shotgun.
Speaker 6 (53:52):
Seattle blitzes.
Speaker 9 (53:53):
Paul is tipped up in the air and interccepted, and
it's Hankins who picks it off. Withers. Spoon tips it
and big Hank all three hundred and blah blah blah
pounds of him, picks that ball ups and the defense
runs to the near side end zone to the cameras
(54:13):
and the Seahawks have the first big break of the
game with a pick of party.
Speaker 3 (54:18):
A great play by two guys on that defense.
Speaker 2 (54:23):
So Rabe says, three hundred and blah blah blah pounds.
Speaker 3 (54:26):
He made me go look up, how heavy.
Speaker 6 (54:28):
My man is?
Speaker 2 (54:29):
It says three twenty five. Oh, no way, no way,
three fifty minimum, three fifty.
Speaker 4 (54:35):
I'm not gonna give him three fifty because that's like, nah,
he's three fifty.
Speaker 5 (54:39):
Given, I would say three forty nine just to make
it feel better.
Speaker 2 (54:43):
Nice, nice, easy number three. All right, So this is
a big play. Spoon tips the football and Hankins comes
up with it.
Speaker 4 (54:50):
What you see, well, first of all, I mean, there's
nowhere to throw. I mean we were on coverage all gamey, whether.
Speaker 5 (54:56):
It was manned man or zone. Really good. We pointed
out brock Purty does something with his feet.
Speaker 4 (55:03):
He'll look to his right, but his feet are opened
to the left, and so everything is telling you he's
he's going to work the middle of the field to
the left. They run Deebo Samuel on a on a
wide route to our right and Kobe Bryant comes flying
down on that.
Speaker 5 (55:20):
I thought he was looking for that initially, but he wasn't.
There's just nowhere to throw.
Speaker 4 (55:24):
And he tried to throw one that was a contested
coverage and Witherspoon does a really good job getting his
arm in there being on point. I mean it was
it's a whip route or an option route, and Witherspoon
is all over him and so he tips the ball
up in the air and thinking, does what receivers should do?
Catch the ball at the highest point.
Speaker 2 (55:44):
Man.
Speaker 5 (55:45):
It was like a rebound. It was really good and
they were so excited.
Speaker 2 (55:48):
I don't like how you tattoo me and say do
what receiver should do. I'm just coaching because I did
that all the time, but you made it personal. I
made it personal.
Speaker 5 (55:57):
See how this is. I mean, you saved one. It's
just the top, it's the tap, and I got to explain.
Speaker 2 (56:02):
Myself, Yeah, that's how this relationship works. Yes, but no,
I'm with you one hundred percent. I think I didn't
notice this until you described it about brock Purdy's base.
His base is saying I'm going to the left all day.
And then you have that kind of orbit motion to
where Debo's getting wide, and what that's supposed to do
(56:22):
is kind of open up part the red seeds for
rock Party. But like you said, man, the defense is
all over this. Man, I think both the defenses played
pretty real well when it came.
Speaker 3 (56:33):
To pass covers.
Speaker 2 (56:34):
Because there's a player we're gonna look at later to
where the forty nine ers did a good job on.
Speaker 3 (56:38):
They're in all right.
Speaker 2 (56:38):
This next play, Gino Smith finds JSN on third and
three to move the sticks on the game winning drive.
Speaker 9 (56:44):
Has Lockett slotted on the left side inside of dk
JSM wide to the far side again a four man
rush you don't.
Speaker 3 (56:51):
Have to scramble out, throws back inside. JSN makes the catch.
Speaker 9 (56:53):
First down inside the thirty five yard line, pops up
off the ground catch it to the official. Actually answers
to this oululula with Timmy, you answer for the official
A fifteen yard game.
Speaker 2 (57:05):
All right, So this right here, Moyer is a staple
in Grubs playbook. When they picked him up from U Dub,
I knew we were gonna see a lot of this
And all it is is your simple mesh concept with
a spot over the top of your z or your
furthest outside receiving to the right is gonna sit over
the ball around twelve yards. You have a tight end
and your slot to the left side, which is Jaysn.
(57:27):
They're gonna run the mess con concept, and then your
receiver to the left is gonna run like a curl
or a dig. Gino does a great job stepping up
in the pocket and making a heck of a throw.
I don't think people realize how difficult this throw was,
but Jaysn, second week in a row, has shown that
he can be relied upon to make a big play.
Speaker 5 (57:46):
Yeah, another one hundred plus yards.
Speaker 4 (57:49):
Look, we get pretty good protection, but one of our
offensive linemen breaks down, so he flashes quick right up
the middle on Gino. So Gino feels it right from
the gug. He's under duress. Right now, he tries to
escape the pocket to his right, Fred Warner, who is
a fantastic linebacker, actually overrun. You try to stay inside
(58:12):
the quarterback when he starts to roll. They just want
to stay a little bit in psyche when the balls come.
If somebody is hooking up, you can cut underneath that.
But if you overplay it and get outside of him,
now he can throw back towards the middle of the field,
which you never want.
Speaker 5 (58:25):
I mean, it's usually those are interceptions.
Speaker 4 (58:27):
If you stay inside the quarterback and Fred just gets
a little bit head up to outside of him, JSN
works the open spot.
Speaker 5 (58:35):
This is such a good throw for a guy who
is barrowing down on him.
Speaker 4 (58:39):
And I will say, watch a lot of film on
Gino for some of the criticism that gets because people
look at just his worst place, the amount of great
plays he makes that a lot of people couldn't make.
Speaker 5 (58:51):
This is one of them.
Speaker 2 (58:52):
And Fred Warner plays this pretty danger pretty dang good.
Speaker 4 (58:57):
When we were watching it, I go no, because I
don't like anything being thrown across the body of a quarterback.
And Fred usually is a little bit inside that, but
he just got about a yard outside of him, which
created that window and Gino found it.
Speaker 5 (59:11):
I mean, it's easy to say it, but it's hard
to find.
Speaker 3 (59:14):
Yeah, I appreciate what you guys are seeing.
Speaker 2 (59:16):
He's not gonna be a guy who lights up the
record books, even though he kind of is just passer
Rick Meyer for what fifth all time passed it or
something like that.
Speaker 5 (59:25):
Is he still leading the league in passing?
Speaker 2 (59:27):
No, he's like second or third now, Okay, I mean,
but he's still up there. I appreciate what we're watching. Man,
this is up for the line he's working behind. At
times it's a difficult job. He's doing a good job.
Speaker 3 (59:38):
All right.
Speaker 2 (59:38):
This last one Gino Smith's game winning touchdown run.
Speaker 9 (59:42):
Gino gets him back to the line of scrimmage twenty
two twenty one, gets a snap, looks steps up.
Speaker 6 (59:50):
Gonna run ten.
Speaker 11 (59:52):
Time, Gino touchdown. Shawks, Holy catfish Smith run left side.
Speaker 9 (01:00:03):
Can't find anybody open from thirteen out, twelve seconds left. Hello,
Seahawks take the lead nineteen seventeen.
Speaker 3 (01:00:11):
Are you kidding me?
Speaker 6 (01:00:13):
No? Quit in this bunch.
Speaker 2 (01:00:16):
So before you break this down, I'm gonna point out
one Rabel with a heck of a call with a
voice crack two my guy Dave Wyman with a giggle
in the background. You gotta love this pure human emotion
in moments like that. I love things like that. What'd
you see?
Speaker 5 (01:00:33):
Yeah, I mean, let me talk about that emotion.
Speaker 4 (01:00:36):
You lose six times in a row to a team
that has dominated, and you're trying to close the gap,
and you go beat them on the road. Man, there,
that is the I would rather win a road game
like that than a home game because you get to
go back to the locker room, you get to go
on the bus, you get to go back to the tarmac,
you get on the plane, you get the plane ride
(01:00:57):
with your the guys you went to battle with it
so much fun and you quiet the whole crowd down.
Let's talk about this play. Why it's such an impressive
play again. First of all, we got no timeouts left,
we got no timeouts, and what made Gino decide that
he was going to run rather than step up in the.
Speaker 7 (01:01:22):
It's time to talk that talk with Michael Bumpis and
Paul Moyer on Hawks Live.
Speaker 2 (01:01:29):
Welcome back to Hawk's Live. It's time to talk back talk.
I gotta admit something. Two weeks in a row, we
had the same group win twice. I promise you. I'm
a man of integrity. I play golf. Okay, if I
go out of bounds, I'm dropping three. If all my
golfers know what I'm talking about, you've played.
Speaker 5 (01:01:49):
With me, you have a foot wedge.
Speaker 2 (01:01:52):
But yeah, just kill all my credibility, Just kill it
right now. All right, but this has been interesting, and
now it's time to get more interesting. Talk that talk.
This is where we throw some topics out. He'll say
is right or wrong. I'll say it's right or wrong.
We'll debate it, and you guys will agree with me
because I'm the good guy.
Speaker 11 (01:02:13):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (01:02:14):
Simple is that got a new logo behind us? Switching
up on us? Mariah Kelly. I don't know what Maria Kelly.
Speaker 5 (01:02:21):
I'm right there.
Speaker 9 (01:02:23):
No, you're not.
Speaker 2 (01:02:24):
Yeah, that game, you're over there there. It's bad radio.
No one knows what we're talking about.
Speaker 5 (01:02:30):
My left at the stadium.
Speaker 2 (01:02:32):
For those who are listening, we're looking at the south end,
at the southwest end of the day.
Speaker 5 (01:02:37):
He always wants us to go an extra thirty minutes.
Speaker 3 (01:02:39):
Dave, we love you. I was the casino.
Speaker 2 (01:02:43):
All right, here we go, talk that talk. I'll start
us off all right, you tell me this is true
or false. You tell me why Jsen will get his
third straight hundred yard game on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (01:02:53):
Here's the thing.
Speaker 2 (01:02:54):
DK put back to back to bad games of one
hundred yards this year, first time in franchise history. All right,
first time. So now will JSN do that?
Speaker 4 (01:03:09):
I'm gonna go just with the odds and say no.
But I think he's more than capable, and I think
it's a good game for him to do it. Look
with DK in there, he's still you know, he takes
he takes people to him right, and game plans to
him and it opens more in the middle of the field.
Now for JSM, I think it would just be tough.
(01:03:31):
But I do I see him having eight to ten
targets again. Yeah, I think that can happen. So I'm
gonna say no, though, just because it's only happened once
and that was DK.
Speaker 3 (01:03:42):
Okay, Well, you know what.
Speaker 2 (01:03:46):
JSN is about my size? Yeah, it's about my speed.
Speaker 6 (01:03:52):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:03:53):
I was about two hundred, about two hundred. I don't
know what he is. I don't know he is. Why
stop stop challenging me all day? Challenge Sometimes you gotta
let me live.
Speaker 4 (01:04:04):
Question.
Speaker 2 (01:04:05):
It's the way you're fighting, But it's the way you
asked the question, Paul God, I do feel like I'm
at home, my lord, Well, you are at home.
Speaker 3 (01:04:14):
Home is where the heart is. Your heart is with me. Okay,
here we go.
Speaker 2 (01:04:17):
So I'm gonna say that Jasn gets it done. The
odds are that he's not going to get it done,
but I think he's going to get it done.
Speaker 5 (01:04:23):
Well, I said, the odds are they're not going to
get it done. I stuck with it.
Speaker 2 (01:04:27):
Yeah, But I said he's going to get it done though.
All Right, he's gonna do it three games in the row.
He's going to go for one hundred and twenty five
with one touchdown. He's going to go twelve targets, ten receptions,
all right, and Gino is going to two, young man,
give him two touches, give him to Well, you should
have said to I say one. I'm just you're gonna
put two on yours. No, one hundred, but two touchdowns.
(01:04:48):
I'm just stick down, all right with you?
Speaker 8 (01:04:50):
Guy.
Speaker 5 (01:04:50):
Look, he we weren't sure.
Speaker 4 (01:04:52):
We drafted him last year to be the center for us,
and he played some last year and we got Honor
Williams in the summer and he never had a chance.
But then Connor Willims decides to retire, and Ola with
Timmy played a really.
Speaker 5 (01:05:09):
Good game last week. I mean, he passed protect well.
Speaker 4 (01:05:11):
He seemed that the moment wasn't too big for him
against a really good front to seven in front four
for the forty nine ers. So he will solidify himself
as a long term starter and shout.
Speaker 2 (01:05:23):
Okay after center position to the two thousand fans are
here right now, still here.
Speaker 3 (01:05:29):
Who was the last center you.
Speaker 2 (01:05:31):
Guys felt absolutely positive about Max Hunger exactly. I was
there when Max Hunger got drafted, and I'm gonna say
Olu is on some Max Hunger stuff. There's been a while.
The people deserve to have a center that they believe in,
and I think Olaw with Timmy.
Speaker 3 (01:05:48):
I think this was good for him.
Speaker 2 (01:05:49):
It didn't mentally, it probably messed him up a little bit,
but I'm gonna say that you know what he learned
behind Connor Williams. He took his time. This is second
year time man out of Michigan. Words with McDonald, let's
get it.
Speaker 3 (01:06:04):
I'm with it. Ola with Timmy is going to be
the guy for the future.
Speaker 5 (01:06:07):
Yeah, I do too.
Speaker 4 (01:06:08):
I think after what I saw this last week, you know,
he's still got stuff to work on. But it was
really clean. He really passed protect well. You know there's
times where you know, I don't need him to hold
the guy for five seconds. They need him hold him
for three seconds. But he works really well down the middle,
moves his feet. He's getting better in the run game
two on when to double team and release and go
(01:06:30):
to the second level.
Speaker 5 (01:06:31):
And I agree with what you said.
Speaker 4 (01:06:32):
It's kind of the same thing with Trice Knight, where
you get your second chance, there's no more pressure.
Speaker 5 (01:06:39):
It's like, I'm just.
Speaker 4 (01:06:40):
Gonna go play football. I'm just gonna get this done.
And I saw that a little bit from Olu, so
I do. I think he proved himself. He's got to
do it a bunch more. It can't be one. They
used to have a coach tell us all the time.
Anybody can do it once. You know, the good ones
make Pro Bowls when they do it two times, three times,
four times, five ahs just start stacking it on top
of each other.
Speaker 5 (01:06:58):
So good chance from this week. But I'm gonna say, yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:07:02):
Okay, we agree, we agree.
Speaker 5 (01:07:04):
Good for you.
Speaker 3 (01:07:07):
It's your turn.
Speaker 5 (01:07:08):
No I didn't. I just did that.
Speaker 3 (01:07:09):
It's my turn, my lord.
Speaker 5 (01:07:12):
You know what, you can lead a horse to water,
all right?
Speaker 2 (01:07:16):
Next up, Gino Smith will earn another contract up to
three years with the Seahawks.
Speaker 3 (01:07:21):
By seasons he's thirty four, all right.
Speaker 4 (01:07:26):
So here's what you're saying. By season's in, I think
they could maybe have something ready to go.
Speaker 5 (01:07:34):
I don't think they could pull it on right.
Speaker 3 (01:07:35):
Let me switch it, let me switch it up, let's go.
Speaker 2 (01:07:37):
By February, he's got another year.
Speaker 5 (01:07:40):
By February, before next season, he will.
Speaker 4 (01:07:44):
Have signed a new a new three year deal which
would cost you know, one hundred and forty million dollars maybe.
Speaker 3 (01:07:50):
How many years three.
Speaker 5 (01:07:52):
I'm going with the three year.
Speaker 4 (01:07:53):
One, so that would give him four years at probably
close to one hundred and.
Speaker 5 (01:08:01):
Talking one to fifties, got one, you know, one seventy total.
Speaker 4 (01:08:05):
But look, he's I believe he's capable. Here's how that happens.
I mean, Seahawks win the NFC West. I mean the
Seahawks are on a roll because I really think what
they do next year with Gino so much is dependent
on this year and that if we don't get there.
What that says is we got to add more pieces.
(01:08:26):
We got to get more guys in the offensive line.
Speaker 5 (01:08:29):
We gotta get now.
Speaker 4 (01:08:30):
Honestly, I think we're pretty loaded on defense, I really do.
I don't know where you're gonna get upgrades other than
we're gonna we got to extend a few people, but
not really. We're really young. We've already signed most of
our guys. Ernest Jones is one for sure. You're gonna
need to get secondary's pretty pretty locked up. Yeah, but
I think you go to the you win the West.
(01:08:52):
You're saying we have the team and the quarterback to
pull this off with the young thing.
Speaker 3 (01:08:57):
You don't.
Speaker 4 (01:08:57):
You're saying we're gonna take our forty fifty million and
we're gonna put it elsewhere on this team.
Speaker 5 (01:09:04):
So I'm gonna say, yes, okay, that means we're winning
the NFC.
Speaker 3 (01:09:07):
All right, there you go.
Speaker 2 (01:09:08):
All right, all right, we got there, We got there,
We got there.
Speaker 5 (01:09:11):
Look, sometimes I have to talk it out. Yeah, you
just want to fix a problem. I want you to
hear my feelings.
Speaker 2 (01:09:17):
This is what I mean when I say I get you,
I get you one hundred percent. All right, I'm gonna
agree with you, all right, because it's better to agree
sometimes and just go to sleep and wake up in
the I just don't have the capacity right now to
uh to go through everything you just went through. So
I'm just gonna agree and call it good. Lord.
Speaker 3 (01:09:41):
All right, there you go. Let's talk that talk.
Speaker 2 (01:09:43):
When we come back, we'll put a bowl in this
thing and we'll talk about what is to come against
Arizona Cardinals and Michael Bamas Paul Moore.
Speaker 3 (01:09:50):
This is Hawk's Lit.
Speaker 1 (01:09:53):
Hawks Live presented by the Dining District of the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Square Center Court, Live on air on
Seattle Sports.
Speaker 2 (01:10:04):
Welcome back to hog Slide presented by the Dinings. Just
She Got the Ball by Collection on Michael Bumpas with
Paul Moyer.
Speaker 3 (01:10:10):
And you know what, let me tell you about Moto Pizza.
Oh man, listen.
Speaker 2 (01:10:14):
We are fortunate to do what we do because we
get free meals every Thursday. I know you guys aren't
as fortunate as us, But if you keep putting the
raffles in, you might just get a ticket and you
might just be able to go to Moto me I'm
basic as hey. They call me Basic Bumpers because I
love some pepperoni pizza. And that's what I got from
(01:10:35):
Moto and it was you know, my middle child, his
name is Kobe. If he can eat pizza every day
of the week, he will eat pizza every day of
the week. So me and him, we're condoisseurs. We'll sit
there with mom's out of town or order in three
days pizza's from three different companies, and then we'll judge them.
So if he were to try some Moto pizza, man,
(01:10:56):
he'd be feeling it.
Speaker 5 (01:10:57):
So I just went and had another bite. Uh, And
there's a bunch of things.
Speaker 4 (01:11:02):
It's kind of a pan pizza that might be one
of the best pizzas I've had. And this was a
pepperoni with a little bit of olive on there. And
they come in a really cute little box there, but
it's over by north Stroms.
Speaker 5 (01:11:13):
And yes, I am a cute pubbing them. But it
is really good pizza.
Speaker 4 (01:11:19):
My wife said, you gotta go try it and let
me know because she's a she's a pizza lover, all right,
And so.
Speaker 5 (01:11:24):
Now I have, and now we know where to go,
really really good.
Speaker 3 (01:11:27):
Now we know where to go.
Speaker 2 (01:11:29):
Yeah, Modal's good. So if if you're familiar with Bellvy
Squares Center Court. It's it's near North Stroms, but it's
on the west side, like that last kind of alley
that you have a stores the west side. Job they
got you know the sun sets over there, right, it's
the west side. I'm not Jerry golf Im Michael bump
Is Well, I was trying to think where am I
in the mall? Yeah, it's definitely on the west side,
(01:11:51):
the west side, yeah, west side.
Speaker 3 (01:11:53):
Yeah, you did well, navigators prody all right, thank you?
You ready? Yeah, let's talk about how we gonna win
this game.
Speaker 4 (01:11:59):
Yeah, see, how do we do it? We gotta score
a few more points in them. It's it's gonna be tough.
Just because Arizona's won four games in a row playing well,
they're confident.
Speaker 5 (01:12:09):
I think we're playing I think we're confident. We should
have beat the Rams.
Speaker 4 (01:12:12):
That was just a bummer, But I think this win
on the road at San Francisco just huge weight off
their shoulder, and I think they finally believe it's I
think they believed in McDonald but it just wasn't clicking
quite right. Defensively, It's really clicked the last two weeks.
And I think bringing Olu and you know Abraham Lucas
(01:12:34):
into the mix.
Speaker 5 (01:12:36):
It's just everything looks.
Speaker 4 (01:12:37):
So clean last week, and there's a lot more out
there offensively. But they got to control Kyler Murray, not
his bottom line. We cannot give up any big plays
on him. You know, he may hit a twenty yard
run here and there, that's fine, but no fifty sixty yarders, nothing,
Marvin Harrison over the top.
Speaker 5 (01:12:54):
They'd like to go deep. And here's the thing.
Speaker 4 (01:12:56):
You go look at their chart, their depth chart and
how they throw passes.
Speaker 5 (01:13:01):
Usually there's some tendencies. Man, they script everything.
Speaker 4 (01:13:05):
It's thirteen passes to the left, thirteen passes to the right.
Deep passes they have seven to the far left. They
have seven to the far right. It is almost identical
on the left, the right, and down the middle. So
you're just gonna have to be on your game because
he doesn't care. He's gonna slink to the left, middle
and right. But I like this matchup. I think we're
(01:13:26):
playing well right now, and I like how we match
up with their offense.
Speaker 2 (01:13:30):
I look at their offense and I need the linebackers
to be disciplined with their eyes. And if they hadn't
seen the rams and the Niners. Prior to this, I'd
be a bit more concerned. Granted, Tyrese Knight had his
first start, but it was against the Nineties and they're
gonna do all this deception type stuff, so I feel
good about it. I think Ernest Jones is a pro.
(01:13:51):
He's been in the league for four or five years,
now four years, but it's shown that.
Speaker 3 (01:13:55):
He can get her done really good play.
Speaker 2 (01:13:57):
The defense is playing at a level that makes me
think that once the offense connects the pass and the run,
this team can make a run. But it's so important.
These next three games are crucial. I know we're talking
about the Arizona Cardinals, but you got the Cardinals, the
Jets and the Cardinals.
Speaker 3 (01:14:13):
If you win these three games, you were back in
the mix.
Speaker 2 (01:14:17):
The Rams are playing the Eagles, the Niners are playing
green Bay at Green Bay, and it started snowing today.
So I'm looking at this situation. This is just where
this team is. There were years where you just worry
about yourselfs go win ball games, you'll be fine. I
think that's what you have to do with us as analysts.
We got to look at the bigger pitcher and say,
all right, well there's opportunity if these teams lose here
(01:14:40):
or there.
Speaker 3 (01:14:41):
But it's all about this defense.
Speaker 2 (01:14:43):
Can this defense do what they've done in the past
two weeks, because people look at that Rams game and
if you didn't watch the game, you could think, all right,
the defense didn't do didn't play a great game.
Speaker 3 (01:14:52):
I thought that defense played pretty well that game.
Speaker 5 (01:14:54):
They played really, I mean, we only gave up thirteen points.
Speaker 4 (01:14:56):
They're gonna say we gave up twenty six, but we
gave up that seven points one hundred and three yard
interception returning and it took himTo overtime for them to
get their other touchdown. But it was thirteen in regulation,
and it was really thirteen last week in regulation too.
We uh, let's say they got seventeen fourteen points. They
got a field goal off of a turnover. So two
(01:15:16):
weeks in a row that we've really held two good
offenses in check. I'm excited with our defensive front, the
way we're rotating. I feel like we've really settled into
the right front. We were not doing as many nickel
fronts with just two down linemen anymore, and you know,
we got three for the most part. Across the board,
a lot of times it's Draymont Jones is the third
(01:15:37):
out wide, but I like the way they rotate in
Hankins and read you know, inside, and then you've got
Murphy who's he's starting to figure it out. He's starting,
he's still a rookie and fighting double teams and you know,
making sure he doesn't get pushed too far. But when
he stays square like he did last week, he made
(01:15:59):
a lot of plays in a running So I just
I like the rotation, and I for the first time,
I really like our linebackers and May I really like him.
Speaker 2 (01:16:07):
And for the first time, maybe second time this year,
I'm optimistic about the offensive line because I saw all
the with Timmy play well, you saw Abe Lucas do
a good job. You're still waiting on the guards to
solidify themselves. I think Lincoln Tomlinson is a ten year pro.
He's gonna have his moments. We talked to him today
here on Hawks Live. But for the first time, second time,
(01:16:28):
I'm optimistic. But this is the most Optimixes I've been
because Abe Lucas played forty two snaps out of fifty nine.
Speaker 3 (01:16:35):
I didn't think think he was gonna play.
Speaker 5 (01:16:37):
That mans I didn't know even played that man forty two.
Speaker 2 (01:16:39):
Snaps, So that tells me that the communication with the
training staff was good, that his knee was holding up,
and that he felt good. So now recover and get back.
But because I saw him play so many snaps, I'm
feeling good about this.
Speaker 4 (01:16:51):
Well, he wasn't on the injury report. He was practicing,
so he didn't even take time off this week. So
that's obviously a really good thing. And you're right, and
he's gonna get better each game. You know, this is
all about just health. And as much as I like Jirelle,
he's a rookie from a division to school. His time
will come. You know, hopefully he gets to that level
(01:17:11):
of Abraham Lucas. But I just feel like everybody's role
is now in place. You know, once you get everybody
understanding their role, it becomes a beautiful theme thing as
a team.
Speaker 5 (01:17:22):
And I just don't feel like we knew our roles
and you know, you're kind of trying.
Speaker 4 (01:17:26):
To figure it out Defensively, I man, I'll be shocked
if we don't play well next week. But it's important
we do play well. They say, Okay, it's three games
in a row.
Speaker 5 (01:17:37):
This is legit. You can start doing three four games
in a row. That becomes who you are.
Speaker 2 (01:17:41):
This is something I've been dying to ask. I'm glad
I remembered it. With like a couple of minutes left.
Kobe Bryant has some playing. It's a good full ball.
The safety spot Rayshawn Jenkins. The window is open the
next twenty one days for him to come back and
join this team.
Speaker 3 (01:17:55):
What do you do at this safety spot?
Speaker 4 (01:17:57):
If you are Mike McDonald, I think I because usually
you don't lose the starting job from an injury. But
you know what, in today's day, it's like, look, you know,
if somebody's playing better than you at that time, you know,
it is what it is. My job's put the best
players on the field, and I he's got a sense
of that team. But the Seahawks play a lot of
(01:18:19):
three man safeties, a lot. There's room for both. I
think you just say, hey, Jenkins, you're coming back. We're
gonna get your feet wet, you're gonna play. You know
when we put it third safety in right now, Kobe's
our guy, and we'll let you guys compete. You know,
whoever's playing the best, we'll get the most playing time.
But Kobe Love and Jenkins, those three guys got motors.
(01:18:39):
They will knock you out and all three of them
can cover. And you go watch this last game, how
we were soaked all of our corners who were tight
in coverage, our safeties were tight in coverage. And it
was the first time I've seen, and I don't know
ten years, ten and I'm not kidding ten years where
I saw our defense understand past concepts zone defense, the
(01:19:01):
way they pat and it was our linement. One of
them was night. It was a crossing route. He let
the crossing route go, he backed up, there was another
end behind him. He got right in that lane. Perty
had to pull it down and scramble. And I was
watching everybody in that zone. I go, wow, frame that one.
It doesn't happen that often. But it was perfect defense.
(01:19:22):
And I can't say that in zone defense. And I
don't know, maybe fifteen years.
Speaker 2 (01:19:26):
All right, Well, let's hope we see more of that
this weekend at home against the Area home win.
Speaker 5 (01:19:32):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:19:32):
Oh, it's been a while. I want to do a
post game show. Well, we're popping bottles and s
