Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hawks Live presented by the Dining District of the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Squares Center Court, every Thursday from seven
to nine, live on air on Seattle Sports Now. If
you're your hosts, Michael Buffis and.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Paul Moyer, Welcome to Hawks Live presented by the Dining
District got the Bellvy Collection. The show was at seven
every Thursday right here on Seattle Sports seven ten, broadcasting
live with Bellvy Squares Center Court. Look who I got.
He's back, Paul Moyer, the guy. You guys are all
here to see mister Moyer is back with us.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
How you doing, Paul.

Speaker 4 (00:33):
I'm good. Good to be back, especially after a win.
It was a tough three weeks before we finally got
that one last week.

Speaker 5 (00:40):
But that was a good win. I'm excited about this
next game.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
That's why he left, because he said, I got to
switch something up. We're losing. So you know why I left.

Speaker 4 (00:48):
I had had the wedding thing from my son. That
was a good time. Yeah, it's really really special, good good.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Memories, good stuff. Congratulations, man, that's gotta be awesome. All right, man,
let's talk about these Seahawks. Man.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
It's as you guys know you got the win last
week and some messages might have been sent to the
locker room this week, Moyer, Jerome Baker is no longer
with the team.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
They moved him over to Tennessee.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
I'm in return, you get a young man by the
name of Ernest Jones, the fourth. I remember him when
he was with the Los Angeles Rams, and he was
a ballplayer. And as soon as the tray goes down,
we do what we do. We're watching film. We're trying
to figure out who he is as a player and
what the Seahaws got in return.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
So when you flip that film, I love well.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Let me back up. First, what did you think of
the trade initially? And then what did you what you
see when you put the film on.

Speaker 4 (01:38):
I was at work. My son kept trying to call me.
I go, ah, something's up. That's just I think of
a Seahawks fan he is, And then I see the text.
At first I was like, wow, I can't believe we
made a trade. And I was like you, I mean
Ernest Jones when he was with the Rams. I thought
he was a problem for the Seahawks. Yeah, you know,
he was a playmaker, a more traditional inside linebacker, tough,

(02:00):
good physical guy.

Speaker 5 (02:01):
Strong. Even though he weighs they say they weigh.

Speaker 4 (02:04):
The same Heimn Baker, they don't look the same size.
You know, Ernest Jones looks like he's he's well built,
he could take on guards.

Speaker 5 (02:14):
He's got really.

Speaker 4 (02:15):
Good push extension with his hands, good anticipation. I think
that's one thing we all talked about, you, Nasa and
I when we were over hanging out at Earl's earlier,
which we talked about. It's just how impressed his instincts are,
how quick he reads things and how he attacks the gap.
So look, they're not messing around two weeks in a row,

(02:36):
big trades. You know, you get Robertson Harris last week.
That's gonna be a huge upgrade for us, particularly you
know the way we rotate our defensive line. And then
Ernest Jones paired with Dotson. I think this is going
to help Dotson two because when you had Dotson and Baker,
two undersized linebackers. Man, it's just it's hard to have
two of them. You know, you need one guy who
can really take care of the run. And you're gonna

(02:58):
like Ernest Jones. He's young, you know, he's twenty five
years old. He's physical, he has good instincts. He can
cover as well. It's not probably as fast as Baker,
but I think you're gonna like what we get from him.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Yeah, no, I love it. When I watched the film,
I saw all the things as you saw. He is
stepping downhill, taking on guards and delivering a pop. He's
not always trying to avoid. There are times in a
place where you can't avoid. His instincts are good. Just
like you mentioned, I'm excited. I think this lets everybody
know on this roster that if you don't do your job,
this is a performance based business, or if we don't

(03:33):
feel like you're doing your job, we have to do
things to make this team better.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
The week before they bring in.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Roy Robinson Harris and I watched him on that defensive
line and it just seems like the box is getting
more physical. And when the box is physical, it's gonna
help everything else on the back end. More interceptions, more
mistakes by the quarterback. So I think this is essential
to building a defense, especially a week where you got
to see Josh Allen, who hasn't turned the football over

(03:59):
now in the air. At least he does have a fumble,
but yeah, just get more physical in the box.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
I like that identity.

Speaker 4 (04:05):
Yeah, I think he saw it last week that, you know,
just having robertson Harris as well, the way the pocket collapsed,
keeping guys fresh. It was consistent pressure that we put
on Cousins and we talked about so if you can
keep him pressure, got pressure. He doesn't take a lot
of sacks. He's going to throw a couple to us.

Speaker 5 (04:22):
And he did. So that's big.

Speaker 4 (04:25):
And I think that was a message too, is that, hey,
if you guys aren't consistent, we're going to go find
people who are. So I think I think it also
gives you know, let's fast forward to this week. It's
not a Baker. I thought, jerown Baker. He is a
good football player. He can run, he can make plays,
but the inconsistencies and they weren't changing the amount of
times he was running underneath blocks at times just just waiting.

(04:49):
I mean, he just wasn't reading. I think his lack
of confidence. I think he lost his confidence somewhere along
the way. And when you're an undersized person, an undersized linebacker,
you've got to beat the guards and centers to your gap.
You have to force them quickly off that double team,
because if you do that, then our defensive lineman can
make the play. If our defensive linemen are holding their ground,

(05:11):
you're in the gap quick. If you're late to it,
there's nowhere to go. I mean he couldn't see over
the guards and now you're hooked as well, and so
there's no way to even work over the top. And
so what do they do? You get lazy go I
think I'm quick enough. I can go underneath this block
and maybe get back into my lane. It's so hard
to do in the NFL. So I think what you
now have for coach McDonald is I think he has

(05:34):
all the pieces.

Speaker 5 (05:35):
He's got all the.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
Pieces on the defensive line we have that can rotate
what you want to do to keep a line for us.
You've got edge rushers that are young and good. You
have now two linebackers who can run, and one of
them's a more traditional downhill, really instinctive player against the run.

Speaker 5 (05:51):
We had to have one of those.

Speaker 4 (05:53):
We have that now, and then in the secondary we're
going to have job on later too. We've got competition
in the secondary corner that's unbelievad it's probably them with
deepest corners we've ever had, yep so and in safeties
Kobe Bryant coming in to play phenomenal. You got all
the pieces to call whatever you want, have any type

(06:14):
of matchup with personnel.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
All the names you mentioned create a good problem to have,
which is who are you going to play right? Who
am I going to trust the most to go out
there and do a job. Let's go back to last
week in Atlanta. I think that was fun to watch.
It was we go into that game knowing that there
are a couple of things that the Atlanta FL Cans
do well. Kirk Cousin coming off a couple of weeks
ago throwing for five hundred yards? What's this pass defense

(06:37):
going to look like? You have Bejean Robinson in the backfield.
You also have Tyler Izier who got knocked out of
that game. Are you going to be able to stop
the run? Will this game travel down south and show
us something that the Hawks haven't been consistent doing, which
is stopping the run and then getting after the quarterback.
It felt good to see these guys execute and calls
these turnovers.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
I think you told me.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
The stat what you had one week where you had
a turnover. You had another week where you have a
fumble return four touchdown, but there was a span where
turnovers just weren't happening and the Hawks were turning the
ball over. It was nice to see this defense create
those takeaways and get that w.

Speaker 4 (07:15):
Yeah, we had had four turnovers going into the game
last week, and we had three of them in one game.

Speaker 5 (07:21):
And if you really look at that.

Speaker 4 (07:22):
Game, the game, it was similar on both sides, you know,
I mean, it wasn't like we just stone cold stopped
at Land of the whole time. You know, they were
getting thirty forty yards in a drive. But you get
those two three big turnovers, three of them one for
a touchdown. It's just a game changer. And special teams.
I thought we won the special team. We kick a
fifty nine yard field goal. They missed a fifty yard

(07:43):
field goal or punter. I mean, I think every time
he pinned them inside the twenty. So, you know, special
teams matter, turnovers matter, We know the formula.

Speaker 5 (07:52):
We hadn't been doing that.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
And then on top of that, the amount of big
plays where we were getting all fixable things, you know,
stop running underneath block, their first touchdown, their very first
touchdown that Robinson, we run underneath the block, the plays away.

Speaker 5 (08:06):
It's like, and I think this whole thing.

Speaker 4 (08:09):
Coach McDonald and Schneider and all of them said, hey,
we've got pretty good team.

Speaker 5 (08:14):
We got good players.

Speaker 4 (08:16):
If you're not going to list, if you're not going
to get this done, we're gonna go find somebody who can.

Speaker 5 (08:20):
There's competition out there.

Speaker 4 (08:22):
We're gonna have Josh job as I mentioned, he's from Alabama.
The great Nick Saban said, make me force me, find
me a reason to play you. Coaches don't play guys
who aren't the best. So I think again, I think
we're a better team today and when we go into
Buffalo than we were a we could go in certainly

(08:42):
two weeks ago.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Once again, Gino plays a solid football game, scores our throws,
two touchdowns, two hundred and seven yards, and when you
look at the stat sheet, it's not gonna overwhelm you.
You're not gonna say, oh, Gino must have had a
good game. But when you watch him work in that pocket,
you watch him operate in tight spaces, you appreciate what

(09:04):
he's doing for this offense.

Speaker 4 (09:06):
Forty seven percent of his passes last week he was hurried.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
All right.

Speaker 4 (09:10):
That was the third most in the NFL this year.
I mean that's a big number, and you know it
doesn't always mean it's sacks. Just me's just got to
hurry up. The way he worked in the pocket. I'll
close it with this. Go watch the last play before
the half, with ten seconds left. He completed it with
four seconds left. What he did, just the way he
stepped up. That ball carried forty one yards in the air,

(09:33):
forty one bullet dime, great read, no timeouts, the decision making.
So yeah, I think Gino argued with people on Twitter,
he's playing as well as any quarterback in the league,
particularly way he's working in the pocket.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
Yep, I agree one hundred percent.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
Gino leading the charge in this defense is getting healthy.
All right, man, one segment down, We are just getting going.
We'll be coming back. We'll get an opponent preview from Salcobaci,
Bill's beat writer and sideline reporter.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
That is next right here on Hawk's Live.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
Hawks SLI presented by the Dining District of a Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Square Center Court, live on air on
Seattle Sports.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
This is Hawk's Live presented by the Dining District at
the Bellvue Collection every Thursday at seven right here on Seattle.

Speaker 3 (10:21):
Score seven ten, and now we.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
Are joined by the Giants beating sideline reporter Sal Capaccio, Sal,
how are we doing?

Speaker 6 (10:30):
Pretty good?

Speaker 3 (10:30):
Guys?

Speaker 7 (10:30):
How are you good?

Speaker 2 (10:32):
We're doing good, man, Thanks for joining us East Coast time.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
You're about to go to sleep?

Speaker 8 (10:37):
Man?

Speaker 3 (10:37):
What's the what's your night looking, Mike?

Speaker 6 (10:40):
Yeah? Actually I did a podcast earlier tonight and trying
to watch my Syracuse Warren, but they are getting completely
demolished by tonight, so that didn't go so well. So
now I'm just watching the Thursday night game.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
What's the status on that Thursday night game?

Speaker 6 (10:56):
Seventeen fourteen? I think the score is right now as
I just up and on with you guys. Pretty good
game actually between the Rams and the Vikings. Obviously Rams
getting a little bit healthier, getting some guys back, but
the Vikings lost to Christian darisaw their outstanding line, doun.

Speaker 4 (11:11):
Sal. Just looking at the schedule, I mean, Buffalo's good,
they're five and two, But then I looked at the
schedule and they really don't have a good signature win.
I mean it beat Arizona early and in Miami Jacksonville
and then you know the jetson Tennessee. Where do you
think this team is though right now in your opinion, Well,

(11:31):
you can.

Speaker 6 (11:31):
Only play who's on your schedule, right I mean, like
there's only opportunities to get those signature wins that they present.
And they did have a chance in Houston, and you know,
obviously that game didn't go their way and they got
beaten pre handley at the Baltimore Ravens. But you know,
I think there's still a team that's in the top
eight in both I think they're third best in the
league in points four eight best in the league and
points against. And they still have an elite quarterback Josh Allen.

(11:53):
He's one of the best in the league. He's the
only quarterback in the NFL. Is you have to throw
an interception yet this season, believe it or not, considering
you know what people generally think about him. You know,
they're still a very very well coached team on the
defensive side of the ball. I guess they lost some
players last year, but the system really works for them.
They've had some struggles hot and cold at times offensively,

(12:14):
but I think, you know, with the addition of Amari
Cooper last week? Who really saw them? You know, they
were down ten nothing, that scored thirty four straight unanswered points.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
What's your what's your perspective on Josh Allen? I appreciate
that he is being more responsible with the football, right, eighteen.

Speaker 3 (12:29):
Turnovers last year.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
Do you feel like he's losing some of that big
play that he had when he was taking more risk
or do you feel like this style of play is
conducive to these guys winning the division and making a
run again.

Speaker 6 (12:44):
Yeah? I mean, well, you know, they won four straight
division titles, and you know, I think along the way,
you know, Josh's had times where he's had to tie
to dial it back a little bit. I think last
year was one of those years. Actually there was less
big plays that were baked in there, and when they tried,
they missed on some outfield. You know, I don't know,
you know, I don't know Josh is necessarily being conservative

(13:05):
necessari this year. I think he's making good decisions.

Speaker 7 (13:06):
With the football.

Speaker 6 (13:07):
One thing, he's a he's running a little bit less.
That started after he hurt his hand, his left hand,
and you know, Week one against the Ears and the
Cardinals that's certainly happening. But you know, this is what
we call the Josh Allen experience. Look, we will all
take the higher turnovers er interceptions because if you don't,
you're not going to get the incredible plays that come
along with it. And that's what makes Josh Allen special.

(13:27):
He's one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL. He
has been for a while. He's been an MVP candidate
every single year, you know, for the last four or five.
And the reason is because he makes those incredible plays
and he can do so much. But with that, he's
going to take some shots. He's got a little bit
of bread parving him. So I always say guys like, hey,
if you if you you want to take those things
away from Josh, then you're actually taking away what makes
them special.

Speaker 4 (13:48):
Yeah. Look, I think it's it's been impressive this year
to watch joshin you know, I'm just curious that you
know that Stefan digs part of that.

Speaker 5 (13:57):
Maybe it's look, you.

Speaker 4 (13:58):
Got twelve touchdowns, no interceptions. He's only taken nine sacks,
so he's not taking sacks and he's still not forcing
the ball downfield. It's just not having Stefan Diggs era.
Do you feel like he says, I'm going to take
what the defense gives you.

Speaker 3 (14:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (14:13):
I think it was really it's seven Nicks and Gabe Davis, right.
I mean like they had a big transition at wide receiver,
you know, and I think that going into the year,
they really felt that they had enough there and they
have an elite quarterback and they can kind of get
by well. As the season's gone on, one thing we
noticed was, you know, a lot of teams are just
playing the Bills a lot more manned man because they
didn't have separators. They have good receivers, just not separators.
Klos Shakira underneath Salton Kinkaid in the middle of the field.

(14:35):
That was great, but they just were not getting guys
open enough where Josh could really take those shots and
you know, felt comfortable. Well, that's why they traded for
Amari Cooper last week. He comes right in, He makes
a big impact in week number one. He's gonna have
an expanded role against this week, and I think that's
really going to start to open up the offense a
little bit. But you know the other part is I
think the Bills have kind of wanted to go to
this model a little bit of you know, their manentre

(14:56):
as everybody eats, right, because the last couple of years,
Stefan Diggs has eaten up so many targets and he's
a great receiver. There's no doubt you want to throw
in the football. But I think there's also comes a
lot of pressure with having to kind of feed a
guy like that. And the Bills they've they really operated
with more of a loose offense and it kind of
doesn't matter where they go, and you have to kind
of defend the whole field on them. And that includes
the running game, which obviously has been very good for
the most part this year as well, with a pair

(15:17):
of very good backs James Cook, who was you know
for the first year and a half of his career
and now is again, and now Ray Davis who's been
in the mixtus that I have done an excellent job.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
Hey, when you when you look at this team on paper, right,
you look at their overall ranking on offense, overall ranking
on defense, how they run the ball, how they defend
the rem you can get convinced that they're just an
okay team. But the numbers that stick out to me
the most are the points that they score and the
points that are allowed.

Speaker 3 (15:47):
Like, make that make sense to me? How are they they?

Speaker 2 (15:50):
They seem to be mediocre everywhere else, but when it
comes to scoring, they excel at that.

Speaker 6 (15:57):
Because they concentrate on with most important and that's keeping
team out of the end zone. They have a very
very good red zone defense, the ranked sixth in the NFL.
Their bend but don't break defense. I mean last week
against the Tennessee Titans, for sample, they were getting out
gained at halftime two hundred and seventeen to ninety and
they were only down ten to nothing because they buckled
down the red zone. Now that was terrible because they
weren't playing very well. They have a bunch of three and outs,

(16:18):
they made mistakes, and then in the second half they
completely outgained the Titans three hundred to seventy something, which
was incredible. They had to tail two hals. Look this
experience coaching staff Sean McDermott. They won four straight division titles.
The experienced quarterback. They understand that it's a long game.
They understand how to make changes throughout the game, the
ebbs and flows of games, and what's most important to
them is keeping teams out of the end zone on

(16:39):
the defensive side and then converting when you're on the
offensive side. And so far they've done a really good job.
They're seventh in the league and red zone efficiency offensively
six in the league and red zone efficiency defensively. So
they're gonna win and they're gonna, you know, be willing
to bend a little bit. And the other part is guys,
I mean, you know, they they've actually kind of styre
the numbers, like when you look at it there and
you say, like being mediocre, the they're kind of bad

(17:00):
actually in yards per game on the ground, right, I mean,
they're twenty ninth in the league and yards were playing
the ground. It's just not going well. But their deepense
is structured to say, hey, look, if you want to
run against us, we can live with that. We're not
going to let you make big plays. The Bills and
Sean mcdermmy's tenure, the Bills are one of the best
of that the best team in the league just not
allowing big plays over the top. I think they've only
allowed one of those this year that went for a touchdown,

(17:21):
and that was because a rookie safety was starting due
to injury, and that was Nico Collins and the Texans.
So you know, they're kind of their philosophy is, hey,
you can run on us a little bit, We'll be
okay with that. You're just not going to throw the
ball down the field to get big plays on us
in score points.

Speaker 4 (17:34):
Yeah, I'm this defense, the way they play together is
really good. I mean, they just I don't know if
it's their philosophy of just having really smart players. The
guy who just jumps out at me is I'm not
sure if it's Terrell or Taro Bernard just watching him, smart,
tough guy. Just talk about some of those linebackers.

Speaker 6 (17:55):
Yeah, well he might not play this week. Guys, he
has an ankle injury. And he is a terrific player,
There's no doubt about it. You know. One of the
you know, kind of more frustrating parts of the last
couple of years, as we've been dot and i'd here,
the Bills have been denied of seeing Terrerol Bernard and
Matt Malone on this field at the same time. Matt
Malone was an All Pro. He's incredible, but you know,
he broke his leg last year in Week number five

(18:15):
and then when he came back this year, he was
ready to play and then he tore his biceps in
training camp, so he's been out all year. So Dorian
Williams in his second year, has been filling in and
he's just getting better every week. Dorrian Wallie supplies around
it plays like his Arizon player and Terrel Bernard. He's
just such a great athlete. He plays the middle. He's
a undersized middle linebacker. You know, he's not a throwback
like ray Lewis. This is a guy that really probably
is more built physically to play the will linebacker spot,

(18:37):
but he's so tough and he's so mentally his high IQ.
He's all over the field as a middle linebacker. Now
if he doesn't play, Val Inspector will fill in for him,
and Balen Spector isn't Terrel Bernard. He's a very good
North He's more of a throwback. He's more of a
North stout, make tackles kind of guy. But he can
be had in coverage a little bit, which we've seen.
So that's gonna be a big area for the Bills
to kind of see where they go and look. Bill's

(18:59):
play pretty much exclusively nickel defense, so where most teams
have three linebackers. The bilster linebackers actually their slot corner
and that's Taron Johnson. And for my money, he's the
best slot corner in the league. He is the first
team All Pro last year. He's smaller, but he's very
physical and he's a terrific cover corner.

Speaker 2 (19:14):
Hey, sal moy and I have covered the Seahawks for
a while, and there's.

Speaker 3 (19:20):
Nothing like a good interview, right.

Speaker 2 (19:21):
A guy who's engaging has personality, and it seems like
you got to get that in keyon coleman Man. How
fun is it talking to this young man and then
seeing him have the best game of his career last
week with what one hundred and twenty five yards?

Speaker 6 (19:33):
Yeah, I mean he made his presence zone right away.
You guys saw probably the viral clips. I just drafted
at the big yellow coat to the floor in the
media room and you know he's taking he's taking candy
from the media table and talking to people, and you
know he came in. He's drafted at twenty years old, right,
I mean, he can't even legally buy a beer. He's
drafted and comes to Buffalo and he's a young guy.
He just loves football. And he is very engaging. You're

(19:54):
right about that. You know, he's kind of quiet times.
But the funny thing about Keion is like he'll say
something and you think like he's trying to be funny,
but he's not. He's just being honest and it's really funny.
And that's just his personalities and he's engaging like that,
and really to see him grow on the field. There's
a guy that you know, people really hammered the Bills
from making that trade with the Chiefs on Draft Day

(20:15):
and the Chiefs going up to get Xavier Worthy. Everybody
thought the Bills should taken Xavier Worthy and oh my god,
how can you trade with the Chiefs and the Super
Bowl champs, the teams that team that's beaten you. But
now the Bills didn't want Daviy Worthy. They could have
drafted him there and he's fine of the player he
may turn out to be. They knew that they wanted
Kean Coleman and they were able to jump down and
they were able to get him. He fits in this
offense very well. And you know, he's a guy that

(20:36):
people might not realize. This kid played basketball at Michigan
State and he played football at Florida State when he
transferred to basket. You know, he's just such a great athlete,
and he was a guard at Michigan State. Like, he's
just so great on his feet. He's really well balanced.
He saw that with his rack last week, run after
the catch, So you know, he's a fun kid to cover,
and I think he's gonna have a really nice career.

Speaker 3 (20:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (20:56):
I'm enjoyed watching him do his thing. And we appreciate
you taking time out of your day. So man, yeah,
you take care and talk to you soon.

Speaker 6 (21:05):
All right, guys, thanks a lot, Thanks you having me out.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
All right. He's Bill Sideline and beat reported Bill.

Speaker 4 (21:09):
You should go had him four years, I remember, and
he's just just good. And I remember we both said
that's a really good Yeah. Yeah, appreciate him coming on.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
Good dude, especially East Coast man. Yeah, man, East Coast time.
Yeah yeah, I'd be knocked out. All right, man, when
we come back, we got more to do. We will
talk to corner Josh Job. That is next right here
on Hawkslot.

Speaker 1 (21:34):
Hawks Live presented by the Dining District of the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Square Center Court Live on air on
Seattle Sports.

Speaker 2 (21:43):
Welcome Back to Hawkslide, presented by the Dining District at
the Bellvy Collection.

Speaker 3 (21:47):
Every Thursday at seven o'clock.

Speaker 2 (21:49):
Right here on Seattle Sports seventeen, we're broadcasting line from
Belvy Square Center Court and now we are joined by
corner Josh Job.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
Josh, how you feeling, man, I'm feeling good, doing great.

Speaker 2 (22:02):
Appreciate you taking time out of your your night on
a Thursday to holler at us, Ben.

Speaker 3 (22:06):
It was. It was fun watching you man. Uh.

Speaker 2 (22:09):
We saw that you were going to get some time.
Do you know how much time you're going to get.
But when you were out there, you were doing your thing, man,
I was. I'm always happy for especially undrafted guys. Paul
Uh and myself were both undrafted. So to see you
go out there and getting opportunity and take advantage of
it was fun.

Speaker 3 (22:26):
What was that like for you?

Speaker 7 (22:29):
I mean it was it was great. You know, like
you said on dropping, guys don't get this. A lot
of opportunities. So I had to take advantage and they'd
open the.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
Doors for me.

Speaker 7 (22:38):
So I how to play my heart out out of
prepar rate the right way and and place fast.

Speaker 4 (22:45):
Josh watching you, whenever I watch younger corners and you know,
getting their opportunity. I'd like to see if they get
up and how confident they're up and bump and run.
And you have no problem with that. Matter of fact,
you were up I think more than and probably anybody
else out there from from a corner standpoint. Is that
just something that you love in your game or is

(23:06):
that something the coaches just said, now we want you
up in press?

Speaker 9 (23:11):
Uh?

Speaker 7 (23:11):
Does on Press's is the part of my game? You know,
I'm actually a good impress And and we've played played
a lot of man a lot, so you know, a
grown man player man's game, you know.

Speaker 2 (23:23):
So, Josh, you're from Alabama or you played for Alabama
and uh, there are certain expectations when you you see
Bama boys.

Speaker 3 (23:35):
Out there on the football field.

Speaker 2 (23:37):
What did you learn during your time at Bama that
that you brought to the NFL? And why are guys
from Bama so successful in the league.

Speaker 7 (23:46):
I mean it's all about standard. You know, you play
for the name of the doc in your jersey and
you have to have a highy standard and play plays
as standard.

Speaker 4 (23:58):
Hey, Josh, when you're you guys got a deep defensive
back room. I mean there's the corner of the competition
is there in the safeties. You know, competition could do
funny things. The team sometimes guys don't talk that much
because the jobs are at stake another guys, you know,
they're they're a really close knit group of dbs. What
what's your what's your your group together when you're in

(24:20):
those meeting rooms.

Speaker 7 (24:22):
I mean, we have a great group of guys. Junior Luve,
we have Williams, whatspone. You know, all those guys are
great guys. We know we're here to win games, and
we're here to play for each other and net see
each other.

Speaker 6 (24:39):
You know.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
Carl Scott is you know, one of your coaches. Obviously,
what's he like?

Speaker 3 (24:46):
Because all I.

Speaker 2 (24:47):
Get from Carl Scott is what I see on the
practice field and whatever I pick up.

Speaker 3 (24:52):
On YouTube and I'm watching them speak to the masses.

Speaker 7 (24:55):
Describe what he is, oh man, coach Scott, He's he's
a great, great coach.

Speaker 3 (25:02):
You know.

Speaker 7 (25:02):
He keeps us on top of the line on Nicola State,
focused on and and generally he is a great guy
off the field and on the soil.

Speaker 4 (25:16):
Hey, the one thing about you, and I think part
of why you didn't look daunted at all in this
game is Look, you've been around the block a bit.
You know, you're at Alabama started the last two years.
Ere you win a national championship, you get some time
at Philadelphia. I'm watching you in this game and just
the way you're move How do you end up in Seattle?

Speaker 5 (25:38):
Did you have other teams looking for you as well?

Speaker 7 (25:44):
I mean other other teams didn't didn't want me and
and I think I think the Seattle will give me
the opportunity to come into the organization and be successful.

Speaker 2 (25:57):
So you're you're from Florida. That's that's a law. Long
flight brother, Florida, Uh to Washington?

Speaker 3 (26:03):
What's that?

Speaker 6 (26:04):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (26:04):
That transition? Obviously you're in Philadelphia for a little bit.
But uh, but what's it like in the Northwest? How
are you enjoying it so far?

Speaker 7 (26:11):
I'm enjoying man. It's pre it's it's cold, it's peaceful,
and it's just a new environment to get adjusted to. Well,
I love it and Seattle daugh.

Speaker 4 (26:23):
Well, the twelves are gonna love you too. So the
one thing is you know they're they're diehard fans here,
so so enjoy that. Hey, looking ahead for the Bills, Uh,
good matchup, good team five and two. Josh Allen obviously
a special quarterback. What do you guys see there? What
kind of challenges do they bring to you guys this week?

Speaker 7 (26:45):
But you know he's he's just from at quarterback. We
just have to anticipate. We have to just play without
instinct and wherever the play call coach give us, we
have to just this adjust to and play hard and
and play physical.

Speaker 3 (27:00):
Hey did you have a family at the Atlanta game?

Speaker 2 (27:03):
I know that's not too far from where you're from.

Speaker 7 (27:07):
Oh yeah, I have. I have my girlfriend, my my brother,
my agent, and my cousin there, so I quite a
ten HL.

Speaker 4 (27:18):
You had a little bit of overlap, brought up coach
Scott he was at Alabama when you were there also,
Is that correct?

Speaker 6 (27:25):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (27:27):
What what's different what he taught? Maybe at Alabama? Have
you seen a little bit of change? Is there a
different scheme to what you ran at Alabama to where
we are in Seattle's.

Speaker 7 (27:41):
Pretty much there's nothing different, you know, is all the same.
What coach Scotty coaching me and coaching the secondary?

Speaker 2 (27:50):
What's you played in the toughest conference in college football,
the SEC And obviously.

Speaker 3 (27:58):
You guys put a lot of guys out.

Speaker 2 (27:59):
But I would assumed that there's still a transition that
happens to the NFL. What was the biggest difference from
playing in the SEC playing college football to now getting
reps in the NFL?

Speaker 7 (28:12):
Defense on, I mean, everybody who's good in this league.
So it's all about technice and fundamentals at the end
of the day. So that's why she was like different
in his league.

Speaker 3 (28:22):
All Right, he is Seahawks corner.

Speaker 2 (28:24):
Josh Joe Man, We appreciate your time, good luck this weekend.

Speaker 3 (28:27):
We hope to talk to you soon.

Speaker 7 (28:29):
Thank you, appreciate y'all.

Speaker 3 (28:31):
All right, that was Josh Joe Moyer.

Speaker 5 (28:34):
I'll tell you what. He's a good player.

Speaker 3 (28:35):
He is, man.

Speaker 5 (28:37):
I was trying to ask him, how did you end
up here?

Speaker 4 (28:41):
How were How was other teams not clamoring to get you?

Speaker 9 (28:45):
You know?

Speaker 4 (28:45):
He again played good football at Alabama. He's got good side.
He looks like a corner. I was watching him early
in the game and I was like, man, he is
not afraid to be up and bob.

Speaker 5 (28:57):
But I was curious, is that what? Hey?

Speaker 4 (28:59):
You know, there some guys, if you're play manned, man,
you know you can play off, you can be in bump,
you can run out, you can play soft corner. There's
lots of different techniques to it. I want to did
they tell you bump and run here or are you
one of those? If you've got the option, you're up
in their face, no fear, quick feet. I mean he
just I was watching him and Pritchard. I was like, Okay,

(29:22):
who's the better corner of the two. And Pitcher's got
some really good speed and closing speed. He's got some
Matt beats that are really interesting. But this guy's got
change of direction, he's strong, he's good and impressed, he's
comfortable playing off. I mean I was really I was
very impressed with what we got there, and it just

(29:42):
adds to the competition. I mean, you got Pritchard, now
you've got him, you got Trey Brown, obviously wool and
you've got Witherspoon. Unfortunately already burns Now is on IR.
But that's a really deep group of people.

Speaker 10 (29:56):
So sorry, really quick note on Josh Shob You asked
of why he got how he ended up in Seattle,
so he got cut from Philly and everything coming out
of Philly.

Speaker 3 (30:06):
Said that people were surprised that he got.

Speaker 10 (30:08):
Cut because if you look at Philly last year, he
played in a team high three hundred and twenty two
special teams plays.

Speaker 3 (30:14):
He was their top gunner.

Speaker 10 (30:15):
He grated out as the number one special teams player
on Pro Football Focus. Started three games last year, so
people in Philly were generally surprised. They had to carry
a couple extra corners. Now, how he got here. Obviously
John Schneider and the personnel team had eyes on him,
but it's surprising that no one else reached out because
he did have some really good film in Philly last year.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
All right, that's our producer, Nasa Choby.

Speaker 5 (30:37):
Yeah, thank you.

Speaker 2 (30:38):
It a one time, but Nasa Chokey, he goes, look, man,
let me hey, I got y'all chill for a little bit.
I'm gonna take care of I got.

Speaker 5 (30:45):
That one in my notes.

Speaker 4 (30:46):
I was just letting him take all the credit us.

Speaker 2 (30:51):
Well, we're glad that he's here because that dB room
was extremely deep to start the season, and then you
see guys start to drop, and then you wonder who's
gonna step up and be the next guy up. And
to be in that position and do that, it's harder
than what people think. I know, people say they prepare
like I'm going to be a starter every single week.

Speaker 3 (31:10):
Man.

Speaker 2 (31:11):
I went in the weeks knowing dang well wasn't on
touch the field, you know, and it's different when you
have to turn it on and go out there and
actually do it. So to see him have the confidence
that you talked about to getting that bump and run
to be aggressive is a testament to him being prepared
and the coaches and stealing that confidence in well.

Speaker 4 (31:28):
He had six tackles, he had two passes defensed. I
mean he had there was one. You heard me talk
about him and Pritcher. I go, oh, man, if he
just trusts that, just trust, get your feet and go.

Speaker 5 (31:40):
And he was there.

Speaker 4 (31:40):
It was almost like wow, is it you know, is
this a setup? I'm right there and you know sometimes
he's got to trust your instincts, go and you get
an interception. Good player though, And I think obviously Carl
Scott having some familiarity with him at Alabama helped, you know,
getting him here also. But I am I'm shocked he
wasn't on a team two weeks ago.

Speaker 2 (32:01):
Yeah, definitely, Hey, come join us here at Hawk's Live
at Belvy Square Center Court. Will you have a chance
to win gift cards from the Dining District at the
Bellevue Collection. Tonight they're getting away gift cards to a
send Prime steak and sushi and castilla. When we come back,
we'll go around the NFL. That is next right here
on Hawks Live.

Speaker 1 (32:21):
Hawkss Live presented by the Dining District of the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Square Center Court, live on air on
Seattle Sports.

Speaker 2 (32:31):
This is Hawks Live, presented by the Dining District at
the Bellevue Collection, every Thursday at seven right here on
Sales four seven ten. We're at Belvy Square Center corner
with my guy, Paul Moya. I'm Michael Bumpus, and we
are with the greatest fans in all the land. Yeah,
let's go. Let's go, giveaway free stuff. Get the people going.

Speaker 3 (32:54):
All right, man, it's we're going around the NFL. And
I'm a big confused right now.

Speaker 2 (33:01):
I'm confused because the Los Angeles Rams are winning twenty
eight to twenty. They're beating the Minnesota Vikings, the same
Rams who feel like they're trying to start all over.
They said, Matthew Stafford is out there if you want
him Cooper cup is out there if you want him.
It's it's weird for them to put all of that

(33:22):
out there yet still go out there and compete with
the Minnesota Vikings. So they don't look at the Vikings
and I go, have you been fooling us this whole time?
Have you been lying to my face? Are you really
not that good of a football team? They are in
a great division, the NFC North, I feel like, is
one of the best in that the best division in football.
So yeah, man, what do you make of this whole situation?

Speaker 4 (33:42):
The c NFL it's every single week, it doesn't matter.
I mean injuries, next guy up. We had Josh Joe,
you know, played great football last week. We thought we
were in trouble with Wollen and all those guys out.
So the Rams have talent. You know, they still have Stafford,
They have a defense at young you know, they figure
had all play together. The Minnesota starts coming back down

(34:04):
to Earth. I'll send you lose one game, you go, oh,
we are mortal. Wait a minute, you know, maybe our
quarterback there's a reason why he's been a journeyman along
the way, So you know, there's lots of reasons for
it for me. I'd like the Rams to lose right
now because I just want to get them out of
the way, let them start selling off. I mean, you know,

(34:24):
there's talk about Cooper Cup getting traded. I don't think.
I don't see it happening because he's been injured so much.
In the cap hit for the Rams and what somebody
would have to take on. I think it's twenty six,
twenty seven million, so a lot of stuff there that
I don't know. I dislike the Rams so much just

(34:47):
about that. Just I'm doing just the scouts below the
forty nine ers. I just want them done. I just
want them to move on, rebuild, and then let the Seahawks,
you know, take over for the this division for the
next five years.

Speaker 2 (35:02):
I'm with you one hundred percent. It looks like they're
not just gonna move on. It looks like they're putting
up a fire. Twenty eight to twenty with five minutes,
twenty seconds left in the game, and they're on the road.
Actually no, they're at home, actually against the Minnesota device.

Speaker 5 (35:16):
It probably feels like a road game.

Speaker 3 (35:17):
It always feels like a road game in LA for sure.

Speaker 2 (35:21):
Oh man, let's talk about these Cleveland Browns man, you
make the worst decision in franchise history. You bring over
to Shaun Watson with all the drama that he brings,
and then you pay him a guaranteed contract. He now
ruptures his achilles, and you get rid of Amari Cooper.
You have arguably the best defensive player in the game

(35:42):
on your team. I mean, if you're the Cleveland Browns,
where do you go from here?

Speaker 3 (35:47):
You got to get a new general manager.

Speaker 4 (35:49):
I mean it's just that decision, the you know, the
whole Watson decision. And you know there was things on
film before that too, right. I mean, he had some
great years, don't get me wrong. You know, really good
with his legs at the time. You know he was young.
I get it. But the risk of what they did,
every dollar is guaranteed for them not to put in

(36:13):
the contract any kind of way out.

Speaker 5 (36:17):
It's nuts to me. They're done.

Speaker 4 (36:19):
I mean that will set them back another three or
four years. Now they have Jameis and Winston who can play.
I mean, you get a veteran guy in there. They
have not scored twenty points in seven games. I mean
these are nineteen ninety two Seattle Seahawks offense numbers. I
mean it's really bad. So I don't know. I mean

(36:39):
part of me doesn't really care. I mean, I know
some people were saying, ah, he shouldn't have got booed
when he hit his achilles.

Speaker 5 (36:46):
I mean, that's not why they booed.

Speaker 4 (36:48):
I mean there's other people in there spattering to booze
for other reasons, would be my guess. But they might
be a better team now with him injured because he
looked awful.

Speaker 2 (36:58):
Jameis Winston said to get the start over there, dtr
filled in last week. I believe he threw two interceptions.
So now you move on to Jamis. I want to
see Jamis play just for the soundbites. It's gonna be
entertaining and post game when he talks to the meat
and so I'm excited about that.

Speaker 5 (37:16):
Do you remember when he first came in the league.

Speaker 4 (37:18):
Yeah, did you ever hear some of his speeches?

Speaker 5 (37:20):
Yeah, they were horrible.

Speaker 3 (37:22):
They're great at the same time.

Speaker 4 (37:24):
But he's turned into this guy who's become a motivational speaker.

Speaker 5 (37:31):
I mean that's just maturity.

Speaker 4 (37:32):
And age, right, And you know he's I think now.
I mean I listened to him and I go, Okay.

Speaker 3 (37:38):
He's got you fooled. It's all.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
I think he just leaned into just being silly and
just dramatic.

Speaker 3 (37:45):
And but yeah, if you like him, I love him though,
so you know, I don't know for Jamis.

Speaker 5 (37:50):
I like some of his speeches. They're kind of funny.

Speaker 2 (37:53):
Oh man, all right, So the Buccaneers, man, goodness gracious,
the Buccaneers. You lose Mike Evans to a hamstring injury
and then what a minute left on the clock, Godwin
goes down and Todd Balls is getting a lot of
phlak for having him in the games too. Me personally,
this is football, this is the NFL. It's not high school.
It's not you. You play your guys until they can't

(38:14):
go anymore. I understand hindsight's always twenty twenty. People are
gonna judge him, But the Buccaneers are one of the
teams that I said on bumpa Stacey.

Speaker 3 (38:24):
Today should look to get Cooper Cup.

Speaker 2 (38:25):
If you're really trying to enhance your offense and help Baker,
who's having a decent year minus the game the other night,
you go ahead and put your bid in for Cooper Cup,
especially because the Rams say they are willing to take
on some of that cap hit.

Speaker 4 (38:40):
Yeah. I mean there's two teams that are on a
bit of a free fall, and I think one is
New Orleans.

Speaker 5 (38:46):
I mean New Orleans came out the first.

Speaker 4 (38:47):
Two games of the year and we all go, Wow,
this team scoring forty points a game.

Speaker 5 (38:52):
They're unbelievable.

Speaker 4 (38:53):
And now they've lost five games in a row, and
Tampa Bay has a chance to go do the same thing,
you know, just they're so beat up. I think losing
Godwin Evans is really good too. Godwin's got that speed,
you know when Yeah, he two really good wide receivers.
I don't know how you come back from that. I
think Baker Mayfield is kind of proven that he is
a good quarterback in this league. But I think he's

(39:15):
also a quarterback that he got to have all the
parts around him, right when you're just a bit undersized
in that this league, man, he just there's not a
lot of margin for air. So all good for the Seahawks.
You know, teams that you know, you want any everybody
in the NFC to lose. Yeah, it's just bottom line.
Hopefully we can win the division, but if we can't,

(39:36):
you want obviously an opportunity to get a wild card spot.

Speaker 2 (39:39):
Speaking of the division, the forty nine ers, goodness, gracious,
you got Iu who has pneumonia symptoms. Obviously McCaffrey is out, Brandon,
I you this is why listen, people don't like players
holding out.

Speaker 3 (39:53):
This is why you hold out because you never know
when you're gonna go.

Speaker 2 (39:56):
And it's a cl gets blown out after he gets paid.
It's not looking good for the Niners, and guys are
gonna get healthy. Kittle has an ankle thing going on
as well. I'm looking at Brock Party and I'm asking,
all right, can you be the guy to elevate the
talent around you, because that's what the great quarterbacks do.
Party has been in such a great situation when he
comes to his talent, the coaching, the division. Now the

(40:19):
weight is on his shoulders. What do you make of
the situation over there in San Francisco?

Speaker 4 (40:24):
Yeah, I mean they're getting older, they've you know, their
salary cap situation is brutal. You know, if you can
get McCaffrey back, I think you got a chance because
he's so explosive. Samuel is still a guy that's very explosive.
Jenning's good wide receiver, Kittle. They they've got weapons. Their defense,

(40:44):
obviously Fred Warner in the middle. They got a good
defensive front as well. Their offensive line has struggled a
little bit as good as they are, I mean, they're
really good. Their centers fantastic. Obviously, Trent Williams is still,
you know, playing at a high level. But here's what
now with brock Party, every team knows his strength and

(41:06):
weakness now, every team. And he's good. He's good in
the pocket, he's good with his feet, he's good.

Speaker 5 (41:10):
At buying time.

Speaker 4 (41:12):
But they're going to take away your strength and force
you into your weakness, and they're going to crowd the
middle of the field. He's really good in the middle
of the field, and he's had three interceptions last week.
Everybody's gonna copy that game plan. They still going to
match up. Obviously, from a talent standpoint, this is it.
I think this is why the Seahawks went and got

(41:34):
Roberts and Harris. I think this is why we shored
up our linebacker spot. I think this is why we're
getting healthier, hopefully at the offensive line. Hopefully we get back.
We're gonna have Durell here as well. I think the
Seahawks realized this is an opportunity to win the division
this year.

Speaker 3 (41:49):
Yeah, I feel it. That's why they're making these moves.

Speaker 2 (41:52):
Make this team better and take advantage of a division
that seems to be wounded right now. But the Rams
trying to change all of that, but work to do
all right. When we come back, we will go inside
the film room. We got Ken Walker's twenty yard touchdown run.
We got Geno Smith, find a dk Metcalf and then
we have Boyer Mafe stripsack of Kirk Cousins.

Speaker 3 (42:12):
That is next right here on Hawk's Lot.

Speaker 1 (42:14):
Hawks Slive presented by the Dining District at the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Squares Center Court every Thursday from seven
to nine, live on air on Seattle Sports Now. If
you're your hosts, Michael Bumpis and Paul.

Speaker 2 (42:28):
Moyer, welcome back to Hawk's Liva. Michael Pumpas with Paul Moyer.
Every Thursday, we are right here at seven o'clock on
Seattle Sports seven ten A. Make sure you get out
to the Bellevue Collection Dining District.

Speaker 3 (42:42):
So many great restaurants to choose from.

Speaker 2 (42:44):
Today we had our pre show meal at Earl's I
had the chicken sandwich tread for fies.

Speaker 3 (42:51):
It was bomb. It was good. It was good. What
you have Moore?

Speaker 4 (42:55):
I had the grilled salmon, some wild rice. I did
get a couple of cheese cakes to go. They did
mention was a Chilean sea bass. I think it was
Chilean sea bass. Looked amazing, but I'd already ordered the salmon.
And then they said they've completely redone their menu. So
if those who've been into Earls before, which I've always
liked their food, completely different menu. They talked about if

(43:17):
you guys were into sushi roles, they've redone those and
they were all raving about it.

Speaker 5 (43:23):
So, yeah, good stuff.

Speaker 2 (43:24):
He said something like the GM. His name was Liam.
He said, there's like sixteen items on the menu. They
got rid of like fifteen of them and they switched
it all up.

Speaker 3 (43:33):
So check out Earls. Man. It was a good situation,
all right.

Speaker 4 (43:37):
Let's what did I mention?

Speaker 5 (43:39):
Also? Was that Earls? What was so special about Earls?

Speaker 3 (43:42):
What was so special?

Speaker 2 (43:43):
Oh that's where your daughter met her husband, right, daughter
met her husband well years ago, maybe thirteen years ago.

Speaker 4 (43:49):
He was bartend And it's funny story because I think
they're listening right now. My daughter ordered some wine and
he was bartending at the time, and my son in law,
who I loved to death, one of my best friends.
He doesn't know wine, so he makes a recommendation to her.
It's the only time she's ever taken the asked for
the wine to go back and give her another another glass.

(44:11):
So they've been together ever since. Two little beautiful babies.
And yeah, life was good.

Speaker 2 (44:15):
I think that was on purpose because he wanted to
keep talking. And then she plows, oh, take this bag,
and that's a good move. MoMA, man, that's what he's
gonna move.

Speaker 3 (44:23):
Good move.

Speaker 2 (44:23):
And Taylor, all right, well, congratulations to the more your family.
Man at Earls. If you're single, you might meet your
special person. Those you never know go there, you never know.
All right, man, let's get into the film room. This
first player, we're gonna break down.

Speaker 3 (44:37):
His kin Walker.

Speaker 2 (44:38):
He runs for a twenty yard touchdown early in the
second quarter.

Speaker 11 (44:41):
Second down and fib a hand off to Walker. He's
down of the fifteen turns up field ten five touchdown
Shayhawks Ken Walker the third over the right side, who says,
those are rookies playing up there? Big hole Walker takes
her to the house from twenty yards out and the
Sea Yawks are a point away from going up ten

(45:03):
to nothing over the home standing falcon.

Speaker 2 (45:06):
All right, that play right there. It was simple as
like a zone, right, all right. And what we're seeing,
what we're seeing is we got our produce in our ear.
I told him he didn't send the player. He corrected
me real quick. All right, I got it, I got it,
all right. So what happened is it's pretty much a
zone right right. It's a zone, right. So all that

(45:28):
means is everybody is blocking the guy in front of
them essentially into the right side.

Speaker 3 (45:32):
You got the big boys.

Speaker 2 (45:34):
You got Michael Jarrell, who will talk to later, and
you'll also have Chris Haynes and those.

Speaker 3 (45:38):
Guys just dominate.

Speaker 2 (45:39):
You got body on a body, and then that the
center does a good job climb into the second level
taking care of the Mike linebackers. So all you have
to do if you're Ken Walker is make that safety miss.
The most disrespectful part of this run is the block
by DK Metcalf. You guys are watching, that's a block
with DK had one hand on a man. It was
just dominate him. Me and DK would have to fight

(46:02):
after that. You're not going to do me like that
on TV? But yeah, what are you gonna do? I'm
doing something. I'm swing, I'm getting pillowy, your know what.

Speaker 4 (46:10):
He would put his hand on the top of your head,
been like you your little kid coming up.

Speaker 3 (46:15):
You'd be swinging exactly what it was.

Speaker 2 (46:19):
But nonetheless been that right side of the offensive line.
Did a great job, Kenn Walker being the special runner.

Speaker 4 (46:24):
He is our rookies man. You described it well. I mean,
you know, off set, you know K nine to the left,
but he ends up going back to the right between.

Speaker 5 (46:32):
Our garden tackle.

Speaker 4 (46:32):
It's just a great block by Michael Jirell and and
our other rookie and Chris Haynes. I mean, that's the future,
you guys is there and it's a really well blocked
And here's the one thing. Once K nine gets into
the open field and works towards the corner, there's no
one fast enough to get him, and it's touchdown. This
is now at least three of his touchdowns have been

(46:56):
a similar type of uh finishing run by K nine.

Speaker 3 (47:00):
Yep, all right.

Speaker 2 (47:01):
This next play, Geno Smith finds DK metcalf or thirty
one guard touchdown right before halftime, third.

Speaker 11 (47:07):
Down in fifteen Geno from the shotgun, three man rush.

Speaker 3 (47:11):
Gino steps up. He's gonna throw the end zone.

Speaker 8 (47:13):
Dka, he's got it. Touch down, Sayhawks, What a bullet
thrown by Geno.

Speaker 3 (47:22):
Smith dk metcalf again between.

Speaker 11 (47:24):
Two defenders underneath the goalposts, makes the reception on an
absolute dime from thirty one out. Holy Catfish want to
play by the Hawks. They make it sixteen to seven,
and the fans here in Atlanta are just stunned.

Speaker 3 (47:44):
What'd you see more?

Speaker 5 (47:45):
Ah man, this is so good, you guys. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (47:48):
First of all, let's just talk about the situation. They
already know I'm going kick the field goal. Kick the field.
We got no timeouts left, defenses are top. Don't give
up a touchdown at this point, give up the field goal.
Clearly Atlanta had shown something on film. They go and
play a Tampa two Cover two. You do not want

(48:11):
to play cover two down in the red zone. It's
really hard on the safeties. It's just too much for
me to cover. So I've got to protect the outside
field of the field towards the sideline. So I've got
to honor that. So the weakness of the defenses. You
pull both the safeties wide towards the sideline the weeks

(48:31):
and defenses down the middle. Well, Tampa two is you
have a linebacker sprint down the middle of the field
and almost plays like a.

Speaker 5 (48:39):
Deep third safety.

Speaker 4 (48:40):
Also, that sounds really good on paper, except when you
have a guy like DK Metcalf who's running down the
seam just widens the nickel just enough. To me, they
played it. They didn't play it right. You've got to
widen that slot guy. You can't let him go down
the middle. You got to push him to the safety.
The best you can see, he has a chance to

(49:01):
make that play. So there's ten seconds left, and I'm like,
we got no time out, so they're gonna play the
sideline not to give up any more yards, and they're
gonna protect the end zone or they didn't protect the
end zone. So we're watching the play in McDonald's Actually,
Coach McDonald explained it awesome. He goes the first thing
I was watching was the protection, and the protection was

(49:21):
pretty good, and Gino stepped up in the pocket. So
now there's nowhere to go. So the ball has to
come out of his hand and he go and coach
McDonald says, Wow, he's you know, he's gonna he's gonna
let it go, or he's he's gonna take the shot
type of thing. And I said the same thing. I
was like, oh, he's taking the shot here. That ball
traveled forty one to forty two yards in the air.

(49:44):
He threw it from the thirty seven yard line. DK
Kent caught at four five yards into the end zone.

Speaker 5 (49:50):
That is a long throw.

Speaker 4 (49:52):
And then again it's now there's four seconds left on
the clock. It's a brilliant throw. It's a brilliant play.
It shows the trust that they have, Gino, because there's
no timeouts, Gino, you cannot take a sack. We cannot
throw this ball in bounds. It has to go somewhere
towards the sideline. We get out of bounds immediately, or
the shots gotta be into the end zone. Credit to grub,

(50:14):
credit to coach McDonald, credit to Gino. All of that
obviously just a great catch by DK. So I just
so many great things about that play.

Speaker 3 (50:21):
All Right, we gotta be quick on this last one.

Speaker 2 (50:23):
Boy of Mafey strips sack of Kirk Cousins picked up
by boy of Mafey ran back for a touchdown pickupber
Mafey isn't.

Speaker 3 (50:29):
There at an inside rushing position. Robinson stays in the
backfield for Atlanta.

Speaker 11 (50:34):
Cousin scrambles left side, gets hit, goes down, maffayt ball
comes down, ball rolling picked up farth.

Speaker 8 (50:40):
Side, gets haul down the far side lines He's gonna score, touchdown,
say Hawks.

Speaker 3 (50:48):
Derek Hall on the sack by boy A moffing.

Speaker 11 (50:52):
Cousins coughs it up and Hall goes the distance the
second your linebacker out of Auburn. He probably he has
a sweet full of family and friends here watching. Cousins
had nowhere to go with the ball. It's knocked away
from Cousins by boy A. Mafey picked up and Hall
takes it thirty six for the touchdown. The Seahawks up

(51:16):
thirty to fourteen. Big play right there.

Speaker 2 (51:19):
You got boy of mafe getting the kirk, Cousins getting
a hand on the football, and d Hall rally into
the football, scoop and score taking it to the house.
One of three turnovers for your Seahawks. That was a
great one. All heart and desire on that play. All right,
when we come back, we will hear our see and
talk to Michael Darrell live and in person.

Speaker 3 (51:40):
That is next right here on Hawks Live.

Speaker 1 (51:44):
Hawks Slide presented by the Dining District of the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Square Center Court, live on air on
Seattle Sports.

Speaker 2 (51:54):
This is Hawks Live of Michael bumpas with Paul Moyer.
Every Thursday at seven o'clock, we'll hear and see how
the sports seven ten and now we are joined by
rookie Michael Drell.

Speaker 3 (52:05):
Michael, how you doing man? Thanks for joining us on
a Thursday.

Speaker 6 (52:10):
Man.

Speaker 3 (52:11):
I love one of one. Me and Paul love football.

Speaker 2 (52:14):
Like as soon as the Hawks games are over, we're
watching film, we're texting each other, and before the game
we were saying, all right, let's see what this young
man from Finley does. And then after the game we're like,
did you see what this young man from Finley did?
How was your your first like real reps out there
in the NFL consistently at.

Speaker 9 (52:34):
Least, I would say, man, Like the feeling I had
going into it.

Speaker 3 (52:38):
Like I was nervous. I hain't gonna lot like that.
I had to depend on my vets.

Speaker 9 (52:42):
And then just some of the other guys in the
room and they you know, and I had the whole
offense and the whole team behind even you know, everybody
was excited for me. But when I got out there
the first play, I was like, just run off the
ball and you know, be physical. And then after that,
I was like, okay, ain is bad. People make it
seems like man, but you know it feel good. Was

(53:03):
it a run player your first play? I think it
was a run play.

Speaker 4 (53:06):
There you go, No, I'm actually it was play action pass.

Speaker 9 (53:11):
I mean they somebody told me before the game that
you won't remember none of the plays yet, like you
won't remember and I don't remember any play. I was
just out there just like in his own just trying
to make sure I had to write assignments and stuff.
But for the most part, I was just trying to
just make sure I could put some good stuff on tape,
you know, let it. I didn't want to be the reason.
I didn't want to let the team down. That was
like a moment, I don't let the team down, don't

(53:32):
be the reason, and that that's the mindset I wasn't.

Speaker 4 (53:34):
To get you.

Speaker 5 (53:35):
Definitely didn't let the team down.

Speaker 4 (53:36):
And look, at the end of the day, it's just football, right,
and you've played a lot of football. I mean, you
started all four years in college, right, so I mean
it's not like you haven't played a lot of football.
Now they are bigger, they're faster, they're better. Talk about
what your impression was. Okay, wow, this these are live bullets.
Did you think it was about what you expected?

Speaker 5 (53:59):
Easier? Hard?

Speaker 3 (54:02):
I would say, like it was, it was. I would
say it's easier.

Speaker 9 (54:07):
But because training camp, when you go through a whole
NFL training camp, like it's nothing like that. Even those
joint practice like those are like wars out there every day.
And then even the Seahawks practice that we hadn't over
the summer like wars, and then going into the game,
it just felt like, I don't know, it just felt
felt easy, felt laxed, you know. But like I mean,
obviously like the tensions there because it's the game, money's

(54:29):
on the line, playoff potential playoff positions on the line,
like all that's on the line, so it's like more intense.
But practices in the summer were definitely harder.

Speaker 3 (54:38):
Man, do you you have a great story.

Speaker 2 (54:40):
I was talking to Paul and Nass over dinner and
we're saying that you know, because of social media and
just the access people have to you guys, it's it's
not surprising that a young man from a D two
makes it to the NFL. Man, when did you realize
that this was a real thing. I'm sure going into
school this was your ultimate goal, but when did it

(55:02):
become real, Like, Okay, I could really make this, you know,
my life.

Speaker 3 (55:05):
In the future.

Speaker 9 (55:07):
I would say, like when I had got my first start,
like my first starting like the full season, like after
the pandemic, but after in the full season going to
my uh, I think that that was like my fourth
year and I had my first full season starting. The
first game we played against like the number one team
at D two, and they had guys that were like
the NFL prospects, Like they had a guy Caleb Murphy,

(55:28):
and I had a good game miss then it didn't
even get it didn't get a I think he may
had one pressure, no sacks, and out of the whole
entire time I played him like the two games and
I was like, Okay, if he's an NFL prospect, I
can play at the next level.

Speaker 3 (55:40):
And then just seeing.

Speaker 9 (55:42):
Guys that I grow up with, and I'm like, like
I remember playing with these dudes, like they get an
NFL attention, I can get that too, So I'm like,
I can do it. And then once you know, I
put him away, started getting stronger, the technique start getting
a little bit better.

Speaker 3 (55:56):
You know, then everything just took off for me.

Speaker 4 (56:01):
If you played that game again, what did you learn
from it? What would you do different? And it could
be anything, could be technique, it could be you know,
the bull rush got me. What is it that you
learned in that game?

Speaker 9 (56:18):
Don't overthink like I learned, don't overthink. I think a
little bit of myself. I was overthinking it because like
I'm like personally chase of perfection and you ain't gonna
have the perfect rip, You're not gonna have your hands
in the perfect spot, if your fee's not gonna be
in the perfect spot, ahs and everything, and just don't
overthink it. Like it's just full of at the end
of the day, I mean, obviously, like you said, bigger, faster, stronger,

(56:40):
and better football players. But at the end of the day,
I'm a grown man. He's a grown man. We put
our shoes on the same way. Just go out there
and do a job and don't overthink it.

Speaker 3 (56:50):
What me either.

Speaker 2 (56:52):
Paul always asked this question, all right, do we go
back and forth because we both played in one of
the things I missed the most.

Speaker 3 (57:00):
It's just the chatter that happens on a football field.

Speaker 2 (57:02):
There is nothing like a dudes get borderline crazy out there,
and I missed that.

Speaker 3 (57:07):
What what's your approach? Are you the talking type or
you the quiet time? How do you approach it?

Speaker 9 (57:11):
I'm pretty much quiet until somebody get me riled up
for the most part, Like I don't know, like you
get to saying something that I don't like, then I okay,
Now now we gotta start talking extension words. But for
the most part, I like to stay cool, calm, and not.

Speaker 3 (57:25):
Feed too much into it.

Speaker 9 (57:27):
Like I'm not gonna do like when I do get going,
I'm not gonna do nothing to go get a penalty
right and stuff. I'm not gonna I know when to stop.
But just you know, we make a big play, I'm
gonna talk a little bit. We you know, we get
to get a first down, I'm gonna talk a little bit.
Or our payingcaking, I'm definitely gonna talk. So it's like
I'm a I gotta need some players need some excitement

(57:47):
to have him.

Speaker 3 (57:47):
Then I say something, Yep.

Speaker 4 (57:49):
I'm sure there's a few favorite plays in that game.
We were just showing.

Speaker 11 (57:53):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (57:54):
Actually Steve Rabel made the call. I think it was
kidding the first with the first touchdown K nine run,
there's forty yard run. You got Christian Haynes was in,
You're in, you got the kickout. Christian Haynes looks like
he's got the hook. Obviously Canine takes it the distance.
I mean, you know, you guys are the future of
that offensive line. Was there a favorite playing that game

(58:15):
for him?

Speaker 9 (58:16):
I would say that that was probably a favorite play.
And that and then the bomb Gino threw down at
the end of the half that was special. Yeah, it
was that was a special player. I liked those two plays.
And then just getting killed in the end zone. He's
sick and stuff like he was sick going through it
and I'm like, you could see it. That's why he
fell to the ground. He was just like, man, exhausted
that but just get It's always good to get your

(58:38):
running back into the end zone.

Speaker 3 (58:39):
I love passing ball.

Speaker 9 (58:40):
I love I love when the receivers getting there, but
when the oat when the runner back gets in the
end zone. It's just something special because that shows the
true grid of the offensive line and opening up pose
and stuff.

Speaker 3 (58:50):
And that's that's what we.

Speaker 4 (58:50):
Did that last play before the half. There's ten seconds left,
there's no timeouts. You guys are on the thirty one
yard line. You know, I'm going to kick the field goal.
Got no time as defenses aren't gonna give you a
shot in the end zone. They're gonna maybe protect the
sidelines a little, but they're in field goal range. What
what was said in the huddle? Was there anything said

(59:11):
by Gino? Because I mean he stepped up in the pocket.
Once that happens, there's no point of return there, right,
I mean, we can't take a sack. What was said
in that just that play because it was such a
big play in that game.

Speaker 9 (59:24):
Nothing, it's just snow day in office right there. That's
just a you know, get call. You get a ball
to seven man, he go make a play, like you
gonna do something, give him time, he gonna make a play,
That's what And that was our Mond says, just make
a play, get get seven time.

Speaker 3 (59:40):
Yeah. I like that. Yeah, just called a play. I's
to play all right, Let's go get it.

Speaker 9 (59:45):
And that's his that's his mindset going to airy place,
because like we got, we got the receivers, we got,
we got all the skills.

Speaker 3 (59:50):
Just along.

Speaker 9 (59:52):
Okay, I got your back, you got my back. Let's
let's give him some time. He's going make a play.
And that's that's our misset going on every play.

Speaker 2 (59:58):
So you you said earlier in our conversation that once
you put on weight, you realize, all right, I can
do this.

Speaker 3 (01:00:05):
So were you a tight end in high school?

Speaker 2 (01:00:07):
Did you touch the rock or have you always had
your hand in the dirt.

Speaker 9 (01:00:11):
I played tight end my sophomore year on varsity and
then I got to touch down.

Speaker 3 (01:00:17):
I got touch down there. Yeah, I played that for
a year.

Speaker 9 (01:00:20):
But I was also like my high school didn't have
an actual tight end in the system, just a package.
So that it allowed me to play JV as well.
So I played JV and varsity varsity tight end, JV
offensive tackle. And then the next year they tried to
move me to defense. I really wasn't feeling defense. That
wouldn't be like I could, I could play it, but
I was just it just wasn't me. And then the

(01:00:43):
next year, my senior year, they said Okay, we're gonna
make you a full time offensive tackle. You're gonna get schools,
gonna get a scholarship, and just took off from there.

Speaker 3 (01:00:52):
There you go.

Speaker 5 (01:00:53):
You're from Indianapolis, Indiana.

Speaker 4 (01:00:55):
That's that's hoop time, man, that's the national pastime is
right there. Every guy we know play for the Seahawks
thinks they're they're a basketball player. You look like you
were a basketball player.

Speaker 9 (01:01:07):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. My high school, My high school is
known for basketball players. A couple of Tigus, Jeff tig,
Marcus Tige, R. J Hunter, Uh, Courtney Lee. Uh. Those
are a few of They were actually all first round
draft picks. It's kind of crazy, all from the same
high school. Man, it's four we have. My high school
has four first round draft picks.

Speaker 5 (01:01:28):
How good were you?

Speaker 3 (01:01:29):
I mean, I was like I was all right.

Speaker 9 (01:01:32):
I say I was more of a defensive player in
the post player, not much of a score, but an
extra effort, go get the rebound. Okay, just the big,
best big on the team, go shut him down. Just
doing the little stuff that you know people didn't want
to do.

Speaker 2 (01:01:47):
So you from Indiana, the cold don't bother you then,
huh nah, I'm from it, but yeah, I'm from it,
but I don't I don't like it like that, Like
it's cool, but it ain't that bad.

Speaker 3 (01:01:58):
Northws Ohioway code name Ananapolis.

Speaker 9 (01:02:00):
Yeah, it's been a winner in northwest Ohio. Man, you
probably you probably hate it. I ain't gonna lie it's terrible.

Speaker 4 (01:02:06):
Where where is Findley? From where you grew up?

Speaker 9 (01:02:10):
Three hours? Three hours of Indianapolis? Three actually from my house.

Speaker 4 (01:02:14):
I had heard you know that, you know, particularly now
with all the Sanil stuff and opportunities to play you know,
fifth years and six years.

Speaker 5 (01:02:22):
Yeah, you could have.

Speaker 4 (01:02:23):
Certainly gone and moved from Division two and played for
some Power five teams on my guests, But you talked
about the loyalty at Findley. You mind just sharing you
know why you stayed all four years?

Speaker 5 (01:02:35):
Yeah?

Speaker 9 (01:02:36):
I stayed all four years because I was a part
of something like when I got to Findley, Finley was
just now building up a program, like they had just
came off their first playoff appearance in NCUA A scence
they've been in Division two school and uh it was
a year, there was a year move from that coming
to next year, and I was being a part of
a program that was just starting to build stuff, and
I wanted to stay there my entire time.

Speaker 3 (01:02:57):
Like I didn't want to I mean, I thought about
leaving for sure.

Speaker 9 (01:03:00):
I had a conversation with my coach actually we said
in the office for like two hours, just talking about
like opportunities and stuff like, because obviously you got to
give it some thought. And at the end of that meeting,
I decide on my own like I ain't leaving. I
want to stay here. I want to keep building up,
keep showing the guys for the for the future that
you can make it out of here too.

Speaker 3 (01:03:18):
You don't need to leave.

Speaker 9 (01:03:19):
And hopefully I've said a great example for those guys,
and they don't.

Speaker 3 (01:03:23):
They don't want to leave.

Speaker 9 (01:03:23):
They want to stay there and continue to keep playing
with their brothers, because that's the most important thing about football.

Speaker 3 (01:03:28):
You can playing with your brothers.

Speaker 9 (01:03:30):
Without without them, there's no meed And like we compliment
each other and I and I wouldn't trade any of
the memories or the good times I've had with them
for for nothing or no amount of money.

Speaker 2 (01:03:42):
You're a You're a dying breed, brother, dying breed. That's
that's that's awesome in here, man, awesome here.

Speaker 3 (01:03:48):
But before before we get.

Speaker 2 (01:03:50):
You out of here, man, how do you like Seattle?
You know, it's it's different, it's a different place.

Speaker 3 (01:03:56):
They love it or you hate it.

Speaker 9 (01:03:57):
Most most people love it. I think it's cool, Like
I don't. People are I'm like, they don't even rain
like that for real. It's like a drizzle. I mean
it's it's like a drizzle right now. It ain't it
ain't bad. But it's cool, man. I like it like
a lot of food though, a lot of food. Like
you can't you can turn. You can go anywhere and
get some food. People are friendly here, like, people are
easy to talk to. You can go up to anybody

(01:04:19):
and talk to them. People have been welcoming a lot.
A lot of the fans like I've met, even if
I don't tell them about play football, like they they
are very welcoming.

Speaker 3 (01:04:28):
And Imber.

Speaker 9 (01:04:29):
I was in an ubercr I was in an uber
driver car and I was just talking to him about football.

Speaker 3 (01:04:34):
I didn't eve tell him I was on the football team.
We were just sitting there talking like.

Speaker 9 (01:04:36):
Everybody's pretty much, you know, real cool for the most part.
Tweret here, yeah, yeah, yeah, twelves are nuts, man, But
it's like it's like a good nuts though. It's like
it's like good that it comes from a good heart,
like they want us to succeed just I mean, just like.

Speaker 3 (01:04:52):
You want anybody. You are fani so you want them
to win. You want you want to see the.

Speaker 9 (01:04:55):
Best product out there and then put on for your hometown,
like you want what you want to see, just like
how was I was a fan for the Coats when
I was a kid.

Speaker 3 (01:05:02):
I wanted to see the Coats win every year.

Speaker 9 (01:05:05):
And I can see how they I can see how
every fan in the league wants to see that.

Speaker 4 (01:05:09):
Well, you don't have to practice silent count this week
because they do know when to be quiet and they
know when to y else.

Speaker 5 (01:05:15):
Yeah, you guys would be good.

Speaker 2 (01:05:17):
All right, we'll get you out of here. But people
are gonna assume you play football. Mike, just gonna let
you know that right now.

Speaker 9 (01:05:22):
At somebody asked me, did you do you play basketball?
I I was fenda tell them on Greg Golden for
a second.

Speaker 2 (01:05:30):
All right, you guys giving up one more time for
Michael jarell Man.

Speaker 3 (01:05:33):
We appreciate you taking time. We'll be coming back. Paul
Moore and I will talk that talk That is next
here on Hawk'slder.

Speaker 6 (01:05:41):
It's time to talk that talk with Michael Bumpus and
Paul Moyer on Hawks Live.

Speaker 2 (01:05:49):
This is Hawk's Live, but Michael pampas with Paul Morier.

Speaker 3 (01:05:52):
We were just joined by Michael Jarell Man. The Hawks
do a good job getting just good.

Speaker 2 (01:05:58):
Human beings in this organize. As you can tell. That's
exactly who Michael is. All right, man, So let's let's
talk that talk.

Speaker 6 (01:06:05):
Man.

Speaker 2 (01:06:05):
This is when when we put a topic out there
and Moyer says if it's right or wrong, and I
save his right or wrong and either we agree or
we disagree.

Speaker 5 (01:06:16):
Then he sends me flowers because he was mean to me.

Speaker 4 (01:06:20):
I apologize now.

Speaker 2 (01:06:21):
And then he invites me to one of his country
club membership.

Speaker 3 (01:06:25):
The show is mean to me?

Speaker 5 (01:06:26):
And do you show?

Speaker 3 (01:06:27):
Do I show?

Speaker 4 (01:06:28):
Do you show up when I invite you to.

Speaker 3 (01:06:31):
The country club? Now you have? You haven't invited me
to one of.

Speaker 5 (01:06:34):
Those new Castle country club.

Speaker 9 (01:06:40):
Club?

Speaker 3 (01:06:41):
Are you ready? Yeah? You want me to go?

Speaker 4 (01:06:42):
No, I'll go first?

Speaker 3 (01:06:43):
All right? What you got?

Speaker 5 (01:06:45):
Look the Hawks?

Speaker 4 (01:06:47):
I was gonna ask you kind of a tease to this,
but it won't work. Hawks have made back to back
trades two weeks in a row, trade deadlines still coming up.
I think the Seahawks thinks they have a good team.
So my question the Seahawks are not done making trades
before the deadline.

Speaker 2 (01:07:06):
Oh all right, so you gotta talk about the parts
of the team that needed to be addressed. Defensive line
for sure, they did that. Linebackers, for sure, they did that.
The next you would think is the offensive line. But
you got Abe Lucas who's been cleared to practice for
twenty one days. George Fan seems like he is coming back.

(01:07:28):
Are they going to address that guard spot? I think
they're looking at the offensive line and saying we're gonna
get better from within. So they're not gonna make a
move on the offensive line. But I think somewhere they're
gonna throw another guy in there. I think they've done
a great job getting ahead of things. You got Roy
Robinson who's here.

Speaker 3 (01:07:47):
You got.

Speaker 2 (01:07:49):
Ernest who they just picked up. But something tells me
they're gonna grab another player. I just don't know who
it's gonna be. But I don't think it's gonna be
with the offensive line. I think they got some young
talent they're gonna let go so yeah, I think they grabs.
I just don't know where it's gonna come from. It's
gonna be like a special teams type of place.

Speaker 4 (01:08:04):
That's a trade.

Speaker 3 (01:08:04):
Now.

Speaker 5 (01:08:05):
They're different than than picking someone up off the street.

Speaker 4 (01:08:08):
I think they're done trading if everything stays as is
as far as in other words, look if DK metcalf
all of a Sudden's injury was longer, maybe they go
get a wide receiver. I think offensive line, you've got
Lucas coming back. They've got some options there. I do

(01:08:32):
believe the guards have improved. I thought Bradford that was
his best game. He also looked at Christian Haynes. He
had that big block there on that touchdown run. He's
starting to get like fourteen to fifteen snaps, you know,
keep improving because his big thing is just you know,
improve on the strength, right, he got to get strong
inside there, good good pass protector. So I think without injuries,

(01:08:54):
I think we stay as there's really not a lot
of cap space left. We didn't have a lot in
this last one, but we traded with a guy who's
on a rookie con track. I believe he's still in
a rookie contract and gave up Baker, who was you know,
a few million bucks more than that, so maybe there's
a little bit left. So I'm gonna say no unless
there's an injury.

Speaker 3 (01:09:14):
Okay, all right?

Speaker 2 (01:09:16):
Next up, the Seahawks will be six and three heading
into the bye week.

Speaker 5 (01:09:23):
You got who do we play after this?

Speaker 4 (01:09:25):
I only look one week at a time, my friend,
I'm with you. I know we got the Rams coming up. No,
we got the Rams coming up after Buffalo. Who's out there?
Somebody text me this? You should know.

Speaker 5 (01:09:38):
I literally don't know.

Speaker 4 (01:09:40):
I mean, I'm with you here.

Speaker 3 (01:09:42):
You gotta know that's that's not working.

Speaker 4 (01:09:45):
I could go to my calendar. That's gonna be quicker.

Speaker 3 (01:09:47):
I got you.

Speaker 4 (01:09:48):
I need to know who we play after Buffalo.

Speaker 5 (01:09:52):
We do play the Rams, right, the Rams?

Speaker 4 (01:09:55):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:09:55):
The Rams?

Speaker 3 (01:09:56):
Okay, Rams is beat Minnesota?

Speaker 5 (01:10:00):
Oh, I know?

Speaker 4 (01:10:01):
Is it after Rams? And I don't think it really matters.
The Rams play is tough.

Speaker 2 (01:10:05):
Here.

Speaker 4 (01:10:05):
We played at home out there home. We got back
to back home games here. Look, we got Here's why
I'm gonna say, yes, we have to.

Speaker 5 (01:10:14):
Here's what.

Speaker 4 (01:10:14):
We don't have that many home games loft after these
next two. I mean we got to you know, towards
the end of the season. I think we're three out
of four on the road, you know, I think I
think it's imperative that we're six and three going into
the Bible. So I'm gonna say yes, it's actually not imperative.
We're five and four. We're fine because the division is
not gonna run away from us right now. But I'm

(01:10:35):
gonna say yes, Okay, even though those are two tough games.

Speaker 3 (01:10:38):
I'm gonna say yes as well.

Speaker 2 (01:10:40):
And I'm gonna say yes because the Niners have the
Cowboys and the Buccaneers coming up. That Niners Cowboys game
is going to be so intriguing to me, Hey, what
are the Niners gonna do? Are they really falling off?
Are the Cowboys going to try to figure something out?
So we don't have to hear excuses from Jerry Jones
for another week or so?

Speaker 3 (01:11:00):
That game they need to make that America's Game of
the Week because there's so much kind of.

Speaker 2 (01:11:05):
We're gonna find out about those two teams. I'm gonna
say yes, but this week our game is Game of
the Week, America's Game of the Week. But I'm gonna
say yeah, six and three for sure, I'm with it.

Speaker 4 (01:11:16):
This is a huge game, and you know what, for
us to win, For us to win, we got to
have some big, huge performances. Josh Allen's playing really well.
Twelve touchdowns, no interceptions, only been sacked nine times or
five and two. So Geno Smith, though, will outplay Josh
Allen this week.

Speaker 2 (01:11:36):
Man, So Geno Smith like a peak Gino Smith game
to me. Two touchdowns, two hundred and fifty yards because
if you do that and he's not throwing the ball
fifty times, which I don't like, that means that the
run game is going, and that means he's taking care
of the football. I think this is the game that
Josh Allen finally throws an interception and turns the ball over.

(01:11:59):
So as ex TLOs even dynamic as Josh Allen is,
I'm gonna go with Gino and say he outplays them
in his way, a Geno type of game, avoiding the
sex getting the full ball out on time. Two point
fifty two touchdowns, Josh Allen's gonna throw a pick.

Speaker 3 (01:12:16):
He's only been sacked like eight nine times something like that.

Speaker 4 (01:12:18):
It's random, it's you know, it's really a low number.
But Cousins last week same thing. He hadn't been sacked
very much and we got three on him, three interceptions,
and so it's there. I don't know if it needs
to be statistically.

Speaker 5 (01:12:33):
I think you'll you'll know it when.

Speaker 4 (01:12:35):
You see it, right right, And so to me, it's
one of those games that you said that he makes
the the big time throw at the critical moment talking
about Geno that he does not turn the ball over
unless it's you know, a hail Mary, a halftime or something,
but I mean in the game moment, no interceptions, big throw,
a third down and eight, and he's got to put

(01:12:56):
it in that window.

Speaker 5 (01:12:58):
Those things he avoids.

Speaker 4 (01:12:59):
That sack, and then I think our look, I think
if we're if we're behind, it's gonna be hard to
force Josh into problems.

Speaker 5 (01:13:08):
We've got to get the lead.

Speaker 4 (01:13:09):
I think early and forced Josh to have to say, Okay,
I gotta win this game on my own. And I
think we really will see it, so we'll know when
we see it, and I think he's going to it's
a home game. I think, I don't think. I don't
think Geno's had a bad game this year. The forty
nine ers have won where he didn't play well, he
had that one interception that which means about the only
interception that was his fault this year the first drive.

(01:13:31):
So we can't have any of those. He's got to
play Darna Air a perfect game for this to happen.

Speaker 2 (01:13:35):
All right, last one I got for you, Okay, Kobe
Bryant has earned a role in this team even when
Rayshawn Jenkins return.

Speaker 4 (01:13:43):
WOU you usually don't give up starting spots unless the
guy's clearly earned that spot.

Speaker 5 (01:13:53):
So what do I mean by that? You know, Rayshawan Jenkins.

Speaker 4 (01:13:57):
I don't want to say he had bust, but he
had some bad angle, some giving up some big plays.
I like Rayshawn Jenkins a lot. I think, no matter what,
Kobe's gonna find a place on that field, whether that's
the third safety. At times, he's shown in the run
game that he's an impact as well. He's downhill when
he reads things, he's fast with it. Matter of fact,
the only play that I thought was kind of a
negative was a positive, and that positive was he came

(01:14:20):
down just laid the guy.

Speaker 5 (01:14:21):
I mean he hit him really hard to run it back.

Speaker 4 (01:14:23):
I think it was Robinson maybe the other running back,
but he bounced just enough and the guy he ended
up having like a thirty yard rock. That was about
the only negative play I saw from him. So yeah,
I think Kobe, if he continues this, has earned the
right to be on that field.

Speaker 3 (01:14:38):
I'm with you one hundred percent.

Speaker 2 (01:14:40):
Great rookie year for Kobe gets hurt towards the end
of the year. I believe it was a foot or
something like that. You draft Witherspoon and that's the NFL shuffle.

Speaker 3 (01:14:51):
Guys kind of get moved around.

Speaker 2 (01:14:52):
A little bit and if they haven't seen you do
much lately, not like they forget about you, but they
give other guys opportunities. He took advantage of it opportunity.
I was so happy to see Kobe.

Speaker 3 (01:15:02):
Bryante do a thing man.

Speaker 2 (01:15:04):
So uh yeah, I'm with you now, Kobe Bryant is
going to be on that field more often, even when
ray Sean returned.

Speaker 3 (01:15:11):
All right, that was talk. That talk.

Speaker 2 (01:15:13):
When we come back, we will give you our final
thoughts and keys of victory.

Speaker 3 (01:15:17):
That is next here on Hawk's Lot.

Speaker 1 (01:15:21):
Hawks Live presented by the Dining District of the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Squares Center Court live on air on
Seattle Sports.

Speaker 3 (01:15:32):
This is Hawks Live. The final segment.

Speaker 2 (01:15:35):
Our true soldiers are still here someone love and support.
They're not just here for the free stuff. They're here
for Paul Morier. No, that's why they are here.

Speaker 4 (01:15:46):
They think that you have one more raffle that's coming here.

Speaker 3 (01:15:49):
So I got a raffle.

Speaker 2 (01:15:53):
Whoever wins this one can listen to Bump and Stacy
for free.

Speaker 3 (01:15:57):
Tomorrow ten to two. We got you.

Speaker 4 (01:16:00):

Speaker 2 (01:16:01):
Actually, everybody wins that one. I'll let you guys tomorrow
ten o'clock.

Speaker 3 (01:16:05):
You can go.

Speaker 4 (01:16:06):
The Seahawks have Hawks Live and seven to ten U
Seattle Sports has Hawks Live.

Speaker 5 (01:16:12):
You guys can listen to it again.

Speaker 4 (01:16:13):
And it's Saturday morning too, right, yep, every Saturday morning
I forget that and people will start texting me. They
hear it more on Saturday than tonight and Nelson they go,
are you doing the show right now?

Speaker 5 (01:16:23):
And like, a what show are.

Speaker 4 (01:16:23):
You talking about? Saturday is my day off?

Speaker 6 (01:16:25):
No?

Speaker 5 (01:16:26):
And uh yeah, so you can listen to a bunch.

Speaker 2 (01:16:29):
I've been driving with my kids. They're like, Dad, that
guy sounds like you. I go, really me, does he
know you sound like you?

Speaker 3 (01:16:37):
Yeah? Fuddy, yeah, I know that guy. This sounds like
you all right, man, it's this is gonna be a
tough game. It's gonna be tough.

Speaker 2 (01:16:45):
The Bills have a culture that has stood at the
test of what five maybe six seasons. And when you
have a franchise quarterback like Josh Allen, you always have
a chance. And now you've given him a weapon and
Amari Cooper, you know you have a chance.

Speaker 3 (01:17:02):
But I like the hawks chances.

Speaker 2 (01:17:04):
I like what they've done when it comes to improving
their defense. They're getting healthy at the right time, and
the offense has been pretty consistent other than maybe one
game this year.

Speaker 3 (01:17:13):
So how do they get it done.

Speaker 4 (01:17:15):
Gonna be tough defensively, they're just really well coached. I
like some of their players. Now they did say Bernard's
or one of their linebacks is not gonna play. Yeah,
that's a big deal.

Speaker 5 (01:17:26):
He is a really good football player.

Speaker 4 (01:17:29):
He takes care of the middle of that field in
the passing game. He's just he's just one of those guys.
He's so fun to watch. So I'm happy I'm not
gonna have fun watching him hopefully this week because he
say he's got an ankle.

Speaker 5 (01:17:44):
It's tough.

Speaker 4 (01:17:45):
They do some timely blitzes right where it's just you go,
oh okay, really good. We'll do like a delay blitz,
you know, just let you slide away at the right time.
So or a back is looking as soon as he
who's you know, boom and goes to the wide route
that they'll send somebody. It's we're gonna have to work

(01:18:06):
for everything on this thing. So but we're capable. I
mean again, I like our talent. I think we're getting
better again at the offensive line. Tough game, I mean
I pretty simple, man, don't give a big plays. Win
the turnover battle. You know, there's five plays each game
that are critical moments. You gotta win three of those five.
It's a really good match I think between Geno Smith

(01:18:29):
Josh Allen. Great opportunity because that man I'm being so
it's got taken a little heat on X, you know,
defending Gino and people say, well, Josh Allen, I go,
Josh Allen's a great player. Yeah, I'm not saying he's
not Lamar Jackson. Great players to be a really good
one for Gino to shine.

Speaker 2 (01:18:46):
You know what I how I described Gino was that
he is good.

Speaker 3 (01:18:50):
For this team.

Speaker 2 (01:18:51):
This situation it's it works for him, just like Rock
Party is good for his Lamar is good for theirs.
There are some guys who are physically more talented, but
I think the more the NFL changes, the more we're
seeing just be good.

Speaker 3 (01:19:04):
For your situation.

Speaker 2 (01:19:06):
Jared Goff is a top three quarterback in the league
right now, and when you look at his attributes, what
he brings to the table, and you line him up
against some of the best.

Speaker 3 (01:19:14):
You're not gonna pick him first. You're not gonna pick
him second, maybe not even top five. But for what
the Lions are asking him to do, he's good for that.

Speaker 2 (01:19:22):
That's the way I look at Gino, and Gino's getting better,
and he's thirty four years old and he's getting better.
The question this weekend for me, Paul, who's gonna step
up if DK doesn't play?

Speaker 3 (01:19:31):
What does this offense look like if DK doesn't play?

Speaker 2 (01:19:33):
Because he has the most twenty yard receptions in the
game right now, He's got eleven, the most twenty yard
receptions and that threat does something to a defense. So
I'm looking at jsm Lockett, maybe Laviska Bobo and saying
who's gonna step up? And how does the absence, the
potential absence of.

Speaker 3 (01:19:51):
DK affect the way that Greb calls a ball game.

Speaker 4 (01:19:54):
I've seen Gino do this before and he just says,
what do you get?

Speaker 5 (01:20:00):
I think Gena is one of the smarter quarterbacks in
the league.

Speaker 4 (01:20:03):
I think the way that he analyzes the defense quickly, Gino,
it can't. I'm just I would love for people to
just go and watch film and let me coach this
thing out. Watch yes, so I can really show what
he's looking at and how he moves his feet and
the amount of pressure that comes that he still avoids

(01:20:26):
and gets the ball out. He will take it as.

Speaker 5 (01:20:29):
Long as he needs to.

Speaker 4 (01:20:30):
So, in other words, if you give me five seconds,
I'm gonna let the place extend. If I got to
get rid of this thing in one point eight second,
I know where to go with it. You know. Again,
the challenge the times he gets in trouble and it's
not necessarily his fault is you've taken away everything quick
and there's got pressure and sometimes he's not sure where
to go with that.

Speaker 5 (01:20:50):
But not many quarterbacks do.

Speaker 4 (01:20:51):
So, Yeah, this is I think if you don't have DK,
I think this is a beautiful grub. Gino game plan
to gather and you go where the ball goes nobody knows. Yeah,
and by the way, give me a heavy dose of running,
heavy dose because he Canine is a weapon. Canine is

(01:21:14):
a big play guy. They talk about big plays twenty
yards or more in the past game. Canine has that ability.
If we can get to him into the second left.
So I think that'll be good. I'm excited to see
what we do.

Speaker 2 (01:21:24):
Canine hasn't had a one hundred yard games this week
one against Denver and uh, I think he's uh, he's overdue.

Speaker 3 (01:21:32):
You got to get this man the ball.

Speaker 2 (01:21:33):
And I think with the offensive line taking steps in
the red direction, we'll see if the start this week,
how how much Haines is involved in the game plan.

Speaker 3 (01:21:43):
They might They might be due, Moyer, they might be
due for a big one. Feeling good, all right, Hey,
well my man, feeling good? Moy Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:21:51):
Special thanks to sal the Baccio, Josh Joe, Michael Durell
