Man? I'm blessed, man, I can't complain that about y'all.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Hey, We're blessed too. Man, you're here wanting us on
a Thursday night. What do your Thursday nights look like?
You know, some guys are getting treatment, they're at the
at the v mag What are you doing on a
Thursday night?
Speaker 3 (01:09):
Your typical Thursday night.
Speaker 5 (01:11):
Typical Thursday night, get a little bit of bodywork down
post practice, but turn on some film, watch practice. But
I got to turn on Thursday night football.
Speaker 4 (01:22):
What's happening on Thursday night football right now? We don't
have it going on right now? Who's winning?
Speaker 5 (01:28):
Yes, it's Buds and the bills going right now. I
just turned it on, so it's on commercial, so I
don't even know who's ahead right now.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
Miles. Everybody said, you're gonna love when you get him
on the show. He's got the smoothest voice radio voice.
And you do not disappoint my man. That is That
is sweet? Dude. Do you actually have aspirations at some
point to try and take over Michael Bumpus role and
to actually get into media.
Speaker 5 (01:56):
Takeover a role a lot on? No, maybe do one
of my own or something of that nature. I've been
told that before, though I appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Dang smooth as Heck, hey, man, I want to take
you back to the New York Giants. Man, everybody was
eating lots of sacks going on there, but you got
yourself your first career sack. Have you had like a
moment to let that sink in and enjoy it. I
know everybody was getting it, but uh man, you got yours?
Speaker 3 (02:21):
What was that moment?
Speaker 5 (02:22):
Like? Man? The timing was kind of crazy because we
had a bot week right after that game on a
Monday night, Crime Camp slat, So I got a whole
week to sook it in and went back home to
Texas to see my mother and sous and they kept
her behinding me of my first act, so I got to.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
Really really it's been fun to watch the defensive line
this year. I mean it's very different than last year.
Last year, you were you guys are probably more of
a traditional three to four defensive line. You had some
big guys, you know, with their hands down usually their
feet were parallel, more of a two gap. It felt
like this year, you guys are smart and you're quicker,
(03:01):
and a lot of times it's just two of you
out there. Is that something they emphasize this year that hey,
we're gonna we're going to use speed and quickness to
disrupt rather than size.
Speaker 5 (03:13):
Yeah, you could say that. I think it's more so
utilizing the skill set that our B line room prevents.
You know, we guys like Jaron Reid back, and we
signed guys like Drew Command, Jeromes and Edwards. You know,
I called him Rio, but we got some good, bad
presences in that defensive line room and it was just
a really good, really good edge to have those quick twitch,
(03:38):
attacking style guys because that is what we've been highlighting.
Speaker 6 (03:40):
It's been working well.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
And when I look at your game and I remember
when you flash in preseason a couple of years ago.
We always give an MVP to the preseason and you
were one of ours a couple of years ago. Is
this give you I mean, does it fit your obviously
your skill set more and give you hopefully more opportunities
to play because they are looking for those more quick
(04:02):
twitch guys.
Speaker 5 (04:04):
Yeah, definitely. I know. That's one thing that the coaches
rave about and they talk about with me, is my quickness.
That's one of my top attributes I'd say to my
game is what I say, So that is something that
I highlight. It's more so based on the opponent in
the game plan. But that is what they like to attack.
(04:26):
They use me to attack the quickness, get a field
kind of penetrate, getting the backfield.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
Miles.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Football is a game and it's meant to be fun,
but when you're playing at the NFL level, there's a
lot of pressure. This is the first year in a
few years watching this defense play to where I feel
like you guys are having a blast out there. Man,
what's it like playing with this group and executing the
way that you guys have been executing?
Speaker 5 (04:50):
Man, that's a loaded question. I don't even know how
to answer that question. To start. Man, how like getting
guys like Bodies back and season, then having his prayers
and get in George j b and uh signing guys
like d Bush and just the energy they bring, and
then all the Jamal, you know, Jamal and Jake coming
(05:10):
off with the injuries last seasons, guys that need to
come back, and it's just it's just the man in
the seament. You got to shout out the young guys
they've involved in.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
Yeah, Man, it really is remarkable the amount of not
just rookies, but you know first your you know, second
year players, along with the rookies and and their and
their productivity. But I'm going to take you back a
little bit to your college days. You went to Rice.
You're from Arlington, Texas. That's Dallas Country. I know TCU
(05:40):
is not that far from from Arlington. What what transpired there?
I know you were a two way player in high school,
both the center and and defensive lineman. But what what
got you eventually over to Rice and not maybe t
c U and and I don't I guess s m
U would probably be in there too.
Speaker 5 (05:59):
Yeah, and high school, I definitely went both both ways.
I'll stay both ways. So I got to have some fun.
I actually had to. I didn't really understand how recruitment
worked in the How would I say that, I didn't
really understand it in the midst of the process. And
so teams were calling me from different conferences, and they
(06:20):
were offering me at an offensive position, and I wanted
to play defensive line. I personally like to attack. I
like to tackle things. You know, Center was fun because
you got to just control everything. But I wanted to
make my living hitting the quarterback. So Rice was the
only camp that my father would pay for. And I
(06:42):
didn't know it at the time, but my mom had
a pretty renowned job and they recruit from Rice. They
recruit Rice's graduates, and she told my dad that information,
so he only paid for the Rice camp and I
got offered right out of that camp.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
So I committed, Oh, that's smart. Your mom's financed person.
You sharing what she does.
Speaker 5 (07:04):
Yeah, she's a finance coordinator for a company called Bang
I think the headquarters Rogra in Boston if you've heard
of them, but yeah, they she she she's been there
for for for for a pretty long time. Shout out
to her man. She she definitely was working in my favor.
She always has, but she was looking out for me
with that decision for sure.
Speaker 4 (07:23):
Now that's that was good decision. Rice obviously tough school
to get into, good academics, and you never know what's
going to happen in the NFL world, so you always
want to rely on that degree.
Speaker 5 (07:35):
I agree, and I was able to get it. It's
a blessing. I appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
Hey, Miles, I'm from southern California. So there's a battle
going on right now right everyone in LA claims in
and outs. In the Northwest, they claimed DICKX Burger's. Something
tells me you got a different fast food chain that
you like. Man, talk to me about what you want
to bring to the Northwest.
Speaker 5 (07:59):
I don't even think that y'all could handle it. Man,
What you talk about?
Speaker 3 (08:05):
What you talk about?
Speaker 6 (08:05):
Moms Man?
Speaker 5 (08:07):
Man, that's a good old fashioned what Burger?
Speaker 6 (08:09):
Man?
Speaker 5 (08:09):
What a Burger?
Speaker 6 (08:11):
Hey?
Speaker 3 (08:11):
No, Miles.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
When we we played Dallas in twenty nineteen and we
flew out there for the playoff game and it was
late and I was in we were in Texas, I go,
I need a what a Burger? And I stayed in
line in the drive through for about forty five minutes.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
Uh, to get a burger?
Speaker 5 (08:27):
Love.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
Man, it was pretty good.
Speaker 6 (08:29):
Man.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
It was an experience for show man.
Speaker 5 (08:32):
That's forty five minute times about right. But I'm glad
you enjoyed it. Man, I'm glad you're.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
Miles a cool cat man. You know, Miles, you used
to have a What a Burger in downtown Bellevue and
it closed. I think it closed, didn't it? Yeah? I
think it's gone.
Speaker 5 (08:47):
Now.
Speaker 4 (08:48):
Is there one anywhere around here that you can get to?
Speaker 5 (08:51):
Are you serious? I didn't even know I had a
what Burger up here? No, I had team one. My
burger spot up here is probably a burger master a
little bit North Bella.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
Oh yeah, I know they make great when shake shacks
not too bad as well. They got a few of
those around it. We're talking food, which is the defensive
lineman is always a love language.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
Always good, always good.
Speaker 5 (09:13):
I could talk all day.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
Ay Miles man, you know this defense has turned a
corner over the last Since week four, they've only allowed
you guys have only allowed seven hundred and eleven yards.
That's the best in the NFL, about two hundred fifty
yards per game.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
What is it?
Speaker 2 (09:27):
Is it guys has figured out who they are and
the role that they're playing. Is that Clinton Hurt, Like,
talk to me and explain why we've been able to
see this defense really take the next step.
Speaker 5 (09:36):
Yeah, it's a little bit of everything, honestly. Close and
give props to coach Hurt because he's been putting us
in some positions. But it's a cohesive effort from getting
guys back and getting them back in position, getting our
feet wet and understand how we can mess all together
and fixing all of our little things. Because truth be told,
if you asked me, we can only beat ourselves. You
(09:57):
know a lot of the things that offenses get their
explosives on us on our you know, rented issues or
little things hand there where we just have to be
on our on our assignment and just execute, just out
executing all the time. And last four weeks we've just
been doing pretty good consistently with executing. But we still
have work to do. There's always work to be done. Well,
(10:18):
give them.
Speaker 4 (10:19):
Anything, No, no, you don't, you guys. I mean again,
I think you said it's a little bit of everything
in that. You know, coverage is much better. I think
Witherspoon obviously and Wooling and bringing Adams and I mean
Trey Brown and you know, so you got covers to
go with with obviously the rush too. But you guys
definitely are playing a defense this week that is really good.
(10:42):
You guys are going to have to outplay this defense.
A lot of the people here, we got about five
hundred people here listening to you don't know that much
about Cleveland's offense. So what have you seen from the
Browns and and what kind of challenges are they going
to give you?
Speaker 5 (10:58):
Uh, you know, every offense in the lead they say
it's a copycat league, so we'll probably see a lot
of similar things that teams have had success on against us.
Kind of I guess a quarterback run game is where
we've had a little bit of leakage, a little bit
of scrambling screen game. But they're pretty balanced. They like
to run the ball, you know. I think Cleveland's always
(11:18):
prided themselves on their offensive line play, which is a
good thing for us. We get the test, get test,
I metal a little bit. But like you said, their
defense is outstanding. I think they're number one in the
NFL right now, and it's just going to be a
really good showcase, really good chance to just opportunity to
just be the best defense that night.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
All right, Miles Man, we appreciate the insight, and we
appreciate your time. Man.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
You do what you do.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
Watch that Thursday night football man, and have a good week.
Speaker 5 (11:48):
Oh man, already gone. And I appreciate you guys to
be outside. Thank you.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
All right, man.
Speaker 4 (11:53):
Take that is one smooth voice, and you can tell
he's highly intelligent.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
I just don't like how you trying to get him
to take my job.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
He can't. He can take your job.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
No, I want to take that voice is not mine.
My joys can be just disgusting. It's just you gotta
have some a little bit of I don't want to
see bs to analyze that voice there, man, is that's
front center.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
It is feet it is.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
It is just a reminder you're listening to Hawks Live
presented by the Dining District at the Bellevue Collection.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
When we return, we'll give.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
You a high level preview of this week's game versus Cleveland.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
That's next right here on Hawks Live.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Hawks Slive presented by the Dining District of the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Square Center Court, live on air on
Seattle Sports.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
And Welcome back to the Hawks Live presented by the
Dining District at the Bellevue Collection, every Thursday at seventh
right here on Seattle Sports seventeen, broadcasting live from the
Belvy Square Center Court. I'm Michael bumpas with my man.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
Paul moy Gay.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
Let's let's talk about these Cleveland Browns and the situation
now where you man. The Hawks picked up a huge
division win last week against the Cardinals and only showed
the forty nine is by half a game in the NFC.
Wes Moyer half a game in NC West. What do
you think about that is is the defense is the offense?
Speaker 4 (13:13):
Man, tell me you weren't at the production meeting today.
But now look, first of all, let's just talk about
last week because always should have blown them out. And look,
it's a visional game. We had three backup offensive linemen,
we started two rookie wide receivers. Our defense continues to
play fantastic football. And what we're doing on our defensive
(13:35):
side is it's complete package. Now we can cover. I
mean we got Witherspoon, we got wool and we got
Trey Brown. All three of those guys are frontline starters
for any team in this league. All three of them
thrown down with Jamal Adams, you got Love, you got Digs.
That is the defense. That's the secondary we were hoping
that it would be. So why is that important? Because
(13:57):
last year we couldn't cover. I mean, we just didn't
cover well. And here's Bobby Wagner's covering better, Jordan Brooks
is playing lights out. I mean, we got a lot
of stuff going on there. Why is that import Because
it allows our front to actually get to the quarterback
and get quarterback hits and some sacks along the way.
If you don't have one of you don't have a
(14:18):
good pass rush. If you don't have a good secondary,
you're not gonna have a lot of sacks. You're not
gonna have a lot of interceptions. To be dominant, you
got to have both. And this is the first time
in probably four or five years where I feel like,
oh man, this has a chance to be really good.
We still got a wayte to go because we're so young, right,
but I've seen the enough sample size to go okay.
(14:40):
And I think the best one is going back to
the Cincinnati game. We had all three of our DB's Wooln, Witherspoon,
and Trey Brown who locked him up, and I thought
he was the best all around receiver Chase. I thought
he was the best all around receiver in the league.
He had thirteen targets six Cats. Just his longest one
(15:01):
was when we jumped offside and he pushed off. I
think it was on Reek walling on a deep comeback.
Other than that, we had his number. So throwing what
we've been doing all year long, and that shut the
running game down. Now the numbers are starting to develop
where you can say, okay, all that hard working, what
that eye test is starting to pay off from a
(15:21):
statistical standpoint too.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
Yeah, I love the youth, the mix of youth and
veterans in that back end. Right, you got the two
OG's in the back, you got Jamal, got Quandary, you
got the youngsters at the corner spot. And then if
you want to go nigga, you slide a youngstering, you
bring another youngster outside. And Trey Brown, who Stacey and
I spoke to today on the huddle, and this guy is mature.
(15:45):
He understands the game the way he talks about the games.
He's a young man but with an old soul. And
I love that about this defense, especially on the back end. Man,
they're flying around and they're doing their thing. Now we
lost with Chenna Neuell Sue, he's out, So.
Speaker 3 (15:59):
What do you do.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
I didn't think they would bring in Frank Clark. I
wasn't against it, but I thought that they would promote
from within and then bring in some guy to just
get in the rotation. No, they brought in a guy
who was a pro bowler at one point, had two
weeks with the Denver Broncos. This year wasn't really working
out over there. They brought him over here. How do
you think he fits into this offense?
Speaker 3 (16:17):
And what is it?
Speaker 2 (16:18):
What does it mean for this defense losing a guy
like with Jenna Wilson.
Speaker 4 (16:21):
Well, I thought Chenna was one of our most complete
players on the defense. And he you know, we looked
at when he can his motor and getting after the quarterback.
But the way he sets an edge just incredible. I mean,
pound for pound, he's one of the strongest players, certainly
on the Seahawks, might be in the NFL. He could
set an edge and he's got everything he had not
(16:42):
to get pushed by an offensive tackle. So I think
we we we loot. It hurts us more in the
run game. So what is Frank Clark. Frank can play
the run pretty well. I don't need him to get
double digit sacks. I think we got enough guys there
to move around with. Boy turned into a legit pass rusher.
(17:02):
You're gonna give Derek Hall some opportunities and see what
happens there. But Daryl Taylor is the one that I
know he can rush the pass there if he wants.
Here's his opportunity be on the field almost every snap
is that can he set the edge and play good
run defense. If he doesn't, I got Frank Clark, I
can put Derek call him there, and then I can
put Frank Clark and I can throw Daryl Taylor in
(17:24):
some pass rushing situations. Losing a Chinna it hurts us,
But we got enough depth to play around with packages.
I think we're fine. I think I forgot to ask
Mile Miles Adams. We do a lot of two defensive
linemen right where there, and we're using quacks a lot
of times, just Jaron Reid and Draymont Jones in that situation.
(17:46):
And then then we mix some linebackers and things in there.
You know, do we go more to a traditional three
man front? Do we see more Jamal Adams maybe at
outside linebacker. So again, Sky's on this. I think coach
Hurtz has done a really good job of mixing his players.
But losing to Chinn it definitely hurts.
Speaker 2 (18:06):
Yeah, it does, And I expect Darryl Taylor to get
more opportunity, at least initially. Right he was a second rounder,
almost a first rounder. You're bringing a guy like Frank Clark,
I would assume he's only going to play about twenty
five percent of the snaps on Sunday unless he gets.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
Into a groove and he's looking really good.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
But I think this is an opportunity for Daryl Taylor
to say, look, I'm not just a third down guy.
I can get the dune downs one two when I
have to play against the run. Let's talk about a
guy who's been playing really good man. He's been going
under the radar. Honestly, Bobby Whitner got a lot of
love when he came back, as he should, number fifty four.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
He's a Hall of Famer.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
Ninety nine overall on madd at one point. But there's
a guy standing next to him a lot of times
when their base defense that has been playing really good
football coming off of one of the worst injuries you
can have as a pro is tearing your aco. I
did not expect Jordan Brooks to play at the level
that he's been playing at, and last game was probably
his best game.
Speaker 4 (19:00):
I think we saw the potential the last few years,
certainly last year. You know, it's to have the number
of tackles he had. If you took the amount of
plays he's playing, about seventy seventy five percent of the
snaps Bobby's playing one hundred. If you had Jordan playing
one hundred percent of the snaps, his statistics would be
off the charge. Right now, Bobby's playing really well. Jordan's
(19:23):
playing at an elite level, and so what does that mean. Well,
he's making big time hits. He can run sideline the sideline,
he can rush the quarterback. He will knock the you
know what out of a guard if he does try
to attack him. He's a fantastic tackler. His speed in
size is unique and it's the best football I've seen
(19:44):
him play. And it's just been a slow progression upwards
from him, and I think Bobby certainly helps being back
where he goes. Again, I don't have to do everything.
I've got Bobby. Bobby to me, making the calls was
over rated. Jordan's more than capable. But to think that
we have now Jordan Brooks and Bobby versus Cody Barton
(20:08):
and Jordan, it just makes it. It's just more opportunities
for Jordan to make big plays.
Speaker 2 (20:13):
Yeah, because you bring over Devin Bush to kind of
feel that void just in case. It's kind of like
now he hasn't been pushed to the side, but you
understand that you have two of the best linebackers in
the league. Now you got to wait your turn in
a little bit to make some plays on special teams.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
Which I think that he has done. When you look
at this.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
Matchup with the Cleveland Browns, what concerns you.
Speaker 4 (20:31):
The most Their defense? You know, like Miles Garrett is
he's from another planet. You know, he's two hundred and
ninety five pounds, but he plays like he's two hundred
and fifty pounds. For those who didn't hear me, he
blocked a field goal last week. We've seen guys block
(20:53):
field goals, Cam Chancellor and Bobby Wagner. When they blocked
the field goal, they had about a five yard running
head start. Kind of you one of the offensive players
and even the defensive players, just to help them a
little bit, get over the pile and block it. Miles
Garrett did this from a three point stance. And for
those who have seen some of those social media TikTok
(21:15):
things whatever, where you see a guy in a pool
in the water and they jump out of the pool
onto the deck and you go, that's fake. That's like CGI, right,
This looked like CGI from a three point stance. He
jumped over the offensive line and blocked the field goal.
I've never seen anything remotely like that in my life.
(21:36):
It's the most freakust play ever. They haven't even talked
about it, so that's my concern. Their front. They are upfield,
they're one hundred miles an hour, so it's gonna be
a I think it's gonna be a frustrating game of
we rush for one yard, rush for one yard rush
for a minus one, you pop a twelve yard er.
You're gonna have to trap them at times. We're gonna
(21:56):
have to take shots down field because to try and
go eighty r on these guys, you know, over ten
series is gonna be really difficult. Our defense has to
outplay their defense, and I think we're capable of doing it.
Speaker 3 (22:10):
I believe it. I think they can.
Speaker 2 (22:12):
The way they've been playing as of late, I think
they're more than capable. Hey, come join us here at
Hawks Live at Belvy Scorer Center Court. Whell you have
a chance to win a gift card from the Dining
District at the Bellvy Collection Tonight they're givaway gift cards
to Fogo, that Ch'au and Castilla.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
Yeah, all right, when we.
Speaker 2 (22:26):
Return, we'll go deeper into the numbers and we look
at the Cleveland Browns that it's next right here on
Hawks Live.
Speaker 1 (22:33):
Hawks Slive presented by the Dining District of the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Squares Center Court, live on air on
Seattle Sports.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
Welcome back to Hawks Live, presented by the Dining District
as the Bellvy Collection on Michael Bombas with Paul Moyer
every Thursday. Were right here, seventeen, Seattle Sports. And you know,
let's get into these numbers now, the specifics of this matchup. Moyer. Now,
the game isn't won on paper, but paper will give
you a good indication about what.
Speaker 3 (23:02):
You're going to get into.
Speaker 2 (23:03):
And now when we look at this team and will
highlight the Cleveland Browns for what they're best known for,
and that is their defense. Their defense is really good,
right the number one defense and all the land right now.
They are number seven against the run, the number one
against the pass. They got a guy named Miles Garrett
who has seven and a half sacks over there. It
feels like this could be a Dave Wyman type of game.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
I spoke to him earlier today. He goes, look, man,
it might be six zero. I go, Dave.
Speaker 2 (23:27):
I pray to the football guys it is not a
six zero game. But if it's six to zero in
the hawks favor, I will take it. Man, when you
look at this matchup, what stands out to you?
Speaker 4 (23:35):
I'd rather be thirteen to zero. You should we get
a little cushion. Yeah, there two of their strengths. Their
defense is phenomenal. Their offense is not. And that's where
we got to outplay their offense. They do have a
good offensive line, they're not real athletic. Their centers athletic.
He can pull. He does a lot of cool things.
(23:56):
You gotta watch for him, you know, doing some getting
out on and running some even sweeps and traps and stuff.
But they I think our quickness, which we talked about earlier,
really plays in our favor on these guys. They're gonna
have to move their feet to block us. Is gonna
be tough. They do not have a quarterback. They've already
ruled out to Shaun Watson. Even though I wouldn't mind
(24:19):
seeing Deshaun Watson because not like he's been playing great either.
I mean he's I think he still has a ways
to go to get back to his old form. They
do have PJ. Walker, who is you know, he's mobile,
that's where he could probably hurt us. But he's completing
under sixty percent of his passes. They're thirty first in
offense right now, but they're number two in the league
(24:39):
and rushing. The challenge it for them, though, is Nick
Chubb is on IR and Jerome Ford is doubtful and
Jerome's pretty good. He's averaging four point four yards per carry.
But this is gonna come down to. I mean, this
is the defensive battle. And last week it was a
thirty nine to thirty eight game. I don't see that
playing in us. Not the kind of game we play.
(25:01):
Browns versus Colts, Brown versus Colts. We cannot turn the
ball over this game. It's okay to punt in this game.
Play little field position. Make them have to go eighty
yards on us and see if they're capable. They're twenty
ninth in turnover ratio. They're minus six this year, and
so as good as their defenses, they're not creating a
(25:22):
lot of turnovers and not even creating a lot of sacks.
I mean seven and a half sacks has comes from
Miles Garrett. But you if you if you want to
just watch and enjoy football, go watch both of these
defensive lines get off the football. Cleveland is they're going
north and south. I mean mostly north. I'm going that
a way no matter what. They're not doing a lot
(25:44):
of two gapping. So you're gonna have to pick your
poison at times and again at times you're gonna trap
these guys. Sometimes we got a maximum protect because they
will play a lot of manned man. They'll be up
and bump and run with their corners and they're gonna say, DK,
if he plays this week and you're healthy, go for it.
And we're gonna have to go for it.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
Yeah, And they got some guys in that secondary. Got
Denzel Ward, a two time Pro Bowler. This year he
has one interception and six passes defendant. You got Greg
Newsom as well. He started all six games this year.
He has nineteen tackles, who passes, defenditive, win interception safeties.
You got Juan Thornhill, and you have Grand Del Pitch.
So you got some guys who are solid on the
back end. And part of the reason why they're solid
(26:23):
on the back end is because they're solid up front.
And you're talking about Miles Garrett, Tomlinson. You got Zadarius
Smith as well. I mean, this defensive line is good
and ready to go, so it's all connected, right. The
defensive line helps out the back end. The back end
helps out the defensive line. And I like the idea
of not getting greedy and punting the ball and playing
(26:43):
the field position game. Because if anything, I want to
ask the guy who's only completing fifty percent percent of
his passes, no touchdowns, three interceptions, to go seventy five
eighty yards and try to put a drive. So I'm
talking about PJ. Walker on the other end, I'll take
our guy Gino Smith when it comes to okay, put
a drive together, because.
Speaker 3 (27:00):
At least we've seen it before.
Speaker 2 (27:01):
So I like the public service announcement like, hey, be patient,
this might be a grinder to start the game.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
And then maybe you can open it up.
Speaker 4 (27:10):
Yeah, their secondaries don't gonna be wrong. It's good, but
you can beat their secondary. It's just can you let
plays develop long enough with their front four. It's really
good front four. They again, they got four guys that
are will be a challenge for us, and so there
will be times when we need to maximum protect and
(27:32):
keep like seven guys in if we want to have
some late developing routes. I think we can get these
guys deep if we can protect long enough. But look,
ninety percent of this game is going to be ball out,
ball out some screens. Let's see if we can keep
the chains moving, hopefully hit on a big run. But again,
(27:52):
I think the running game is stick with it, Just
stick with I know it doesn't look pretty, but there'll
be an opportunity. They'll be a little window, and if
you can get that window, there's room in that secondary
for you. Because of the way they play in the secondary.
We're a better team than they are. And I say
that because their defense is fantastic, but we're pretty close.
(28:14):
We're a much better offense than they are. And that's
what's got to show up on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
I want to see how they decide to attack Miles Garrett.
A lot of times, when you have a guy like that,
your initial response would be, all right, well we run
away from him. That's not what you want to do.
You want to run at this dude. I'm not saying
every single time you get at him, but you keep
them on his toes and they don't want to see
how they use the tight ends to help these tackles. Right,
we haven't seen a lot from Will Disley. He only
(28:41):
has like six catches for fifty seven yards this year,
but he is the guy.
Speaker 3 (28:45):
He's probably the best blocking tight end.
Speaker 2 (28:47):
So I want to see when they decide to attach
him to the line of scrimmage and how they attack
Miles Garrett.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
I think you have to be aggressive when it.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
Comes to that, not necessarily meaning that, okay aggressive, we're
gonna throw the football down the field, We're gonna run
at them every single time, but give him something to
think about so he's not just freelancing and firing off
that football.
Speaker 4 (29:04):
Well, Charles Cross is gonna it's gonna be a test
because he normally lines up to our left on offense.
Defense is right, They'll move him every once in a
while over if then maybe they see it's a real
mismatch and maybe they have a player too designed. You know, again,
it's not like, you know, Miles Garrett's always in the backfield.
(29:26):
He's two hundred ninety five pounds, and you know, I
used to think, oh, he's probably not a speed rusher.
Yeah he is. Now I wouldn't say he's an elite
speed rusher, but at two hundred and ninety five pounds,
he's an elite speed rusher, but he can bull rush,
he can spin inside, he can set you up outside.
If you create space, he can beat you inside. I mean,
the times where I've seen him have success is when
(29:48):
the offense, whether the defense of coaches for Cleveland designed
this where they didn't slide to the left just to
give a little bit of help. All of a sudden,
the guard had to I'm down inside and they created
all the space for Miles Garrett for the offense against
offensive tackle. I don't want to see a whole lot
of that because if you get him on his speed rush,
(30:11):
he will flip that into a bull rushing media and
the man is strong, he is an he is an
elite player. You'll have fun watching. But they got some
other guys in the middle, even though they don't got
a lot of sacks. Miles got seven and a half.
I think the next guy's got two and a half.
Then it's like one, it's gonna be a fun game.
I'm more the reason why it's gonna be so fun.
(30:32):
My throwback to you know on me twenty one, My
twenty ones are gonna be in a in the stadium
on Sunday with.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
A Spoon in the back.
Speaker 4 (30:38):
Oh does that right? I forgot about that. I'm gonna
go get one. I'm gonna peel it off and uh,
I think the crowd is gonna be electric. It's gonna
be a fun week and we can't lose on Throwback
Jersey Week.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
You're gonna have your throwback out there at twenty one
with Witherspoon. I'm gonna have mine out there with a
locket on the back. So we'll just protell like as ours.
You know it's both.
Speaker 4 (30:56):
Did you ever play it in the You're too young now?
Speaker 3 (30:59):
I had.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
I probably played in the worst row Seahawks ever. So
you know what, I'm just gonna adopt yours and say
it's mine.
Speaker 4 (31:07):
Do you you know how they have like the ugly
Christmas sweaters?
Speaker 6 (31:11):
Do you do?
Speaker 4 (31:12):
Do you put the jersey in.
Speaker 3 (31:13):
Through that first?
Speaker 2 (31:13):
I'd never put on a jersey that has my name
on the back.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
I don't like that.
Speaker 6 (31:16):
Look all right?
Speaker 4 (31:17):
When we return see one Sunday, brother, When we.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
Return, we'll go around the NFL. What's going down? That's next?
Speaker 5 (31:23):
Right here?
Speaker 3 (31:23):
On Hawk's Live.
Speaker 1 (31:27):
Hawks Slive presented by the Dining District just a Belldue
Collection at Bellevue Square Center Court, live on air on
Seattle's Sports.
Speaker 2 (31:37):
Welcome back to hawks Lide presented by the Dining District
at the Belgie Collection. Like I said, every Thursday, we
are right here on sevent ten Seattle Sports, and that's
time to go around the NFL man. We got the
Bucks and Bills in progress right now, twenty four to ten.
Josh Allen is thirty of thirty nine, three hundred and
two yards, two touchdowns, one interception. We're wondering if Baker
(31:58):
Mayfield was gonna play. He is playing, and he's thirteen
of twenty three, one twenty four and one touchdown. James
Cook for the Buffalo Bills on the ground has eleven
carres for fifty five yards and throwing the football or
receiving the football. Stefan Diggs has eight for fifty five
and no touchdowns. So that's what's going down on Prime
right now. But let's go around the NFL man. I'm
(32:20):
surprised that the forty nine Ers drop two in a row.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
Now.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
My question with the forty nine Ers and Brock Party
was if if someone goes down, if one of his
ballers go down, would he be able to overcome that?
In the last two drives against the Vikings, he throws interceptions.
One of the interceptions, I'm looking at it and I
go it was the right decision.
Speaker 3 (32:39):
He just didn't execute.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
That to me, is the next step for Brock Party.
Can you put the team on his back and say, okay,
let's go, because you look at this Shanahan offense and
it seems like you can just put anybody in there
and they'll have some type of success. We'll see that
this weekend because it sounds like Sam Darnol is going
to be the guy there. But when you saw the
Niners drop two in a row, what were your thought
and what he's seeing?
Speaker 4 (33:01):
Well, the first one surprised me because I just didn't
think they would lose it. I think last week though,
was even a bigger surprise for me because you start
losing two games and you go on streak, something's not right.
And when I was watching brock Purity, and I really
like Brock Parity, I think, for as far as a
(33:22):
leader and a human being, how do you not pull
for this guy? I mean, he's he's as good as
they come, and I know he's coming off. You know
the it was the the elbow surgery. I think it
was an elbow surgery. And it just doesn't look like
his arm strengths quite back. Not that he's ever had
elite arm strength, but that ball floats, so he relies
(33:43):
so much on timing and you've got to be wide open.
He's not putting in between two guys with a window
of three feet. That's not his game. He's not it's
not going to happen. The guys too fast in a sleek.
So now what I'm and it's you know how I
always talk about San Francisco. What do you got to
protect on francisc going to pass game? You've heard me
say this.
Speaker 2 (34:02):
How many years you said, make him throw outside the numbers.
Speaker 4 (34:05):
They can throw outside the number. Everything in their game
is in the middle of the field, cross some routes,
deep in routes, getting over the linebackers. Well, the last
two weeks he's had the float balls over. He's trying
to and he doesn't really have that arm strength and
I don't think he's that accurate if the guy's not
wide open. So now he's being forced to actually try
(34:27):
to win games. And it's again I said this. You
can play as a backup for a while, you can
even play a full season if you've got an incredible
team around you. But when they start to waiver just
a little bit and you need a quarterback to make
that big time throw and really drive it in there, man,
it's not sure he's that guy. And so until they
(34:47):
get Sam, you know they won't. I think Sam's owen
was out last week. They had Kittle, they had McCaffrey,
they had their.
Speaker 2 (34:56):
Guys only debo.
Speaker 4 (35:00):
I think maybe their left tackle still Trent, was out too.
But you know, there's no excuses.
Speaker 7 (35:05):
Man.
Speaker 4 (35:05):
In this league, they start figuring you out and they
force you to your weaknesses and that's what they're doing
right now. And who's gonna have to make an adjustment?
Speaker 2 (35:12):
Yeah, it's it is fun for me to watch, honestly,
because you feel like you got to check some boxes off.
If you are a quarterback in this league and want
to be considered elite, you got to be able to
win some games. And I feel like there's only like
four or five quarterbacks in this league right now that
I feel like, all right, two minutes to go. Give
me the football. I'm gonna win the ball game for you, man,
So yeah, I'm happy to see.
Speaker 4 (35:32):
Okay, before you leave us on that, remember I sent
this to our group text. How about this when trailing
by five points centering the fourth quarter, the forty nine
ers are zero and twenty nine under Kyle Shanahan since
twenty seventeen. That's an incredible stat. So if they don't
have the lead going into the fourth quarter, I mean,
(35:53):
I don't know if that's a testament to the quarterback
Garoppolo Purdy that hey, we're putting in your hands. You
got to lead us back or Shanahan going way back
to the Super Bowl when they you know, you call
it what you want, but you know, blew a huge
lead and he was the offensive coordinator. I don't know,
maybe there's that gag can't quite get it done.
Speaker 3 (36:14):
You know what.
Speaker 2 (36:16):
I haven't heard that well once when you when you
sent that stat, I was like, I couldn't believe that
was true. But once you start breaking it down, you
think about Kyle Shanahan and his trials and tribulations, it
starts to make sense. One thing that doesn't make sense
to me right now is how well Kirk Cousins is playing.
He's the regular season champion of the world. Right His
team is what three and four right now? I believe
(36:38):
or four, three, one and two maybe a flippant, but
he's playing at it at extremely high level. What are
your thoughts on Kirk Cousins. I mean, he's a good quarterback.
Speaker 4 (36:48):
He's always been a good court I mean when he's
at Michigan State, you knew there was something there. But
what caught my attention when he came out of Michigan
State was, Oh, this guy is a leader. I mean,
men will follow him. You know, there's just it's kind
of like Perdy. I mean, when you're such a good
human being and you're so humble and you'll do whatever
(37:08):
it takes to make people around you better, and you
don't make football bigger than life, you know. I mean,
you know where my faith is. I put a lot
to Cousins in his faith in God and in the
things he does every day. His consistency along the way,
and you don't get to bent out of shape when
things are He's just keep working to get better. Is
(37:30):
he ever going to be the greatest quarterback?
Speaker 3 (37:33):
You know?
Speaker 4 (37:33):
I mean there's a skill set He's not Patrick Mahomes,
but man, he just keeps getting better and better. His
arm strength is not the greatest, but he finds ways.
And I think they're about to go on a role.
I was looking at their next six seven games. They're
all winnable games. They might even be favored in now.
Speaker 2 (37:53):
One of my favorite teams to watch when they're not
playing the Seattle Detroit Lions. I mean these started off
five and one and all of a sudden, Baltimore just
smacks some man.
Speaker 3 (38:05):
That's all crazy. The NFL is right, when.
Speaker 2 (38:06):
You think a team has had something figured out, there's
another team that provides a matchup that's hard for them
to really combat. Man, when you see the Detroit Lions,
you still see them as one of the best in
the NFC, Or did that loss.
Speaker 3 (38:18):
To Baltimore kind of change the way you view them?
Speaker 4 (38:21):
Sometimes you just take one on a chin. In the
old days, you know, if you got your butt smacked,
you know, usually it was like, uh, oh, something's not right.
But I've seen the Patriots get smacked and come back.
I mean New Orleans has done it. Had there's a
bunch of teams that get beat up early. I think
Detroit's talented. They just took one on a chin. Baltimore
(38:42):
obviously is a team that you got to be If
you're gonna play them, you know you better be ready
for them. They got a mean run a game, they
got a complex defense, It gets after you. They got
good players. Lamar Jackson has got a skill set that's
extremely unique, hard to prepare for, right, and he can throw.
I mean it's not just a so that's a that's
a good game. Can I bring up one though?
Speaker 2 (39:04):
On the NFL you got about thirty to forty seconds.
Speaker 4 (39:07):
That's not going to work. Then I wanted to bring
up that whole Kareem Jackson thing from the Broncos, and
I need more time for that. We may have to
do that on the pregame show. Can we We'll do
that on the pregame show on Sunday. I have some
thoughts on that, and I have written out what is
what is what is unnecessary roughness? By the way, that
(39:28):
wasn't there, That wasn't even a rule when I played,
There was no such thing as un necessarily. There was
a late hit, there were spearing, there was a block
in the back, there was hitting the guy out of bounds,
a late hit, things like that, but there was no
unnecessary roughness. Necessary roughness is subjective. And when you go
and read there their code for it, it's section eight,
(39:52):
article two. I can't remember. It read like truly a
law book. And I'm like, what are we doing here?
And it was by the way and by the way
they find they suspended him for two games, and the
letter they wrote him said, while your hit was legal,
it was unnecessary rough You actually had time, and they
(40:16):
chastised them. They basically talked down to them that you
had timing, you could have made a better decision. You
didn't need to do this. And I'm like, that guy's
never played dB in his life. You got to be
kidding me.
Speaker 2 (40:29):
Can you guys tell us side of the ball he
played on.
Speaker 3 (40:32):
On the defensive side. No one talked about the quantity.
Speaker 4 (40:35):
By the way here towards the sideline, that play wouldn't
even happen. But no, it's not on them. Sorry, go ahead.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
It's like my wife, we don't want to talk about this,
but hey, listen, we're gonna talk about it.
Speaker 3 (40:47):
Let's talk.
Speaker 4 (40:48):
We're gonna talk about.
Speaker 3 (40:49):
Talk about lean.
Speaker 2 (40:50):
Make sure you check out the Beallvy Collection, Dyning Dish,
so many great reshaants to choose from. Today we had
our pre show meal from foga to chow. We had steak, chicking, pork, salmon,
Brazilian hock does cop but yah, it was awesome. When
we return, we will hear from olu Ulawa Timmy in person.
That's the center, one of the centers for the Seahawks.
That is next right on Hawkslive.
Speaker 1 (41:10):
Hawks Slive, presented by the Dining District at the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Squares Center Court every Thursday from seven
to nine, live on air on Seattle Sports.
Speaker 2 (41:20):
No.
Speaker 1 (41:21):
If you're your hosts, Michael Bumpis and Paul Moyer.
Speaker 2 (41:24):
Welcome back to Hawk's Live. Oh, Michael Bumpus, that's my guy,
Paul moy Gable waiting on Olu. He will be here
in a minute. But you know what, we have some
passion behind the topic. We were just talking about, well,
unnecessary roughness. One of my favorite movies growing up was
Unnecessary Roughness.
Speaker 3 (41:39):
You remember that movie?
Speaker 4 (41:42):
I do, Yeah, I remember Unnecessary Roughness. I mean most
of the good college ones. I think we got Ulu
here coming so that remember we were going to break
you said, you know you like my wife. You just
you keep arguing it. And I said, yeah, we'll go
to break and we'll come back and argue. Yeah, we're
gonna have to postpone that till later.
Speaker 3 (42:02):
Yeah it's gonna come back, like yeah, tomorrow or something.
Speaker 4 (42:04):
Oh, it's gonna come back at some point like a bit.
Speaker 6 (42:06):
Of the morning.
Speaker 3 (42:06):
All right, now, you're good.
Speaker 4 (42:11):
Oh so I step on everything. Oh look, man, good
to see it.
Speaker 6 (42:16):
What's up?
Speaker 2 (42:17):
Man?
Speaker 3 (42:17):
Good to see you again, Man, get to see you again.
Speaker 2 (42:21):
Oh, lou Man, we appreciate you taking time out of
your Thursday and coming and holler at us.
Speaker 6 (42:26):
Man.
Speaker 2 (42:27):
You know, you guys got a task in front of you,
coming off a.
Speaker 3 (42:30):
Good win against Arizona.
Speaker 2 (42:31):
How's the body feeling, how's the team feeling.
Speaker 8 (42:34):
My body's feeling good. I'm still young. I think the
team were feeling good. We're pretty healthy, and we're just
excited to compete this weekend.
Speaker 4 (42:41):
You know, I was, He just asked the question. I was, because, yeah,
you haven't played every game, and then all of a sudden,
you're in every snap. It's a physical game you're used
to just your college career, which we'll get into as well.
I mean, you have played drown near every snap, probably
since you've been in ninth grade. Are you a little
more sure than normal or are you truly Hey, I'm young,
(43:04):
I'm good.
Speaker 6 (43:05):
Nah, truly, I'm young and I'm good.
Speaker 8 (43:07):
I mean around this point in the season, like guys
that played every game, you know, their body probably.
Speaker 6 (43:11):
Aches a little more to mine. But shoot, that was
my first starts.
Speaker 2 (43:16):
What's your relationship like with Andy? He seems like a
laid back type of guy. Does he ever get amped
up or is he pretty even killed most of the time?
Speaker 8 (43:25):
Nah, I haven't seen him ever get amped up in
my time here. He's the same guy that you guys
see whenever you guys interview him. He's the same guy
in the O line room, same guy on game day,
during the game, when stuff is going bad or when
stuff is going good.
Speaker 4 (43:39):
You've had some pretty good coach the smart coaches I'm
gonna say, I mean, you go back to your Air
Force days in Virginia and certainly at Michigan because I
know you know Harbaugh is he's a guy who wants
to run the ball and is about offensive line. Now
you're here with the Seahawks. What makes a great offensive
line coach?
Speaker 8 (43:58):
What makes a great offensive line coach being able to
coach different body types. Everybody in the O line room
gets things done differently, and it's never really a one
size fits all because some guys are longer limbed, some
guys are more athletic than others. But you just got
to find different ways to get the job done. And
then the coach being able to give people the right tools,
(44:19):
the right coaching points to be able to figure out
how to do the job.
Speaker 4 (44:23):
You guys run a little bit more spread offense here
where you know Gino's and gun he'll get under center.
Imagine in Michigan is probably more flipped. He probably were
quarterback under center quite a bit. Is there a different
technique Michigan was teaching than they do here with the Seahawks.
Speaker 6 (44:43):
I would just say we run a different scheme.
Speaker 8 (44:45):
So running a different scheme, you know, requires different techniques.
But you know, we run some of the same stuff
we ran in Michigan, but we also have a different wrinkle.
Speaker 6 (44:55):
So it's good.
Speaker 3 (44:57):
I come from a military family.
Speaker 2 (44:59):
All branches are right, and my dad's a marine, and
my uncle says he's the smartest one out of the
family because he went to Air Force Okay, Now you
initially started.
Speaker 3 (45:09):
At air Force.
Speaker 2 (45:09):
What was it about air Force that attracted you to
that program?
Speaker 8 (45:13):
I mean, honestly, coming out of high school, I just was,
you know, I didn't really have a lot of offers.
Air Force was kind of like my best opportunity academically
and athletically, so I just decided to, you know, go there.
Speaker 4 (45:24):
And you ended up going to Virginia mainly closer to home.
He's from Maryland, long way from home. Yeah, you know
you did you go to Virginia just hey, this a
little closer to home.
Speaker 8 (45:35):
Well, so I really wasn't enjoying my time at the
Air Force Academy. And my boy who I went to
high school with, he was a year older than me.
He went he was at Virginia. He was playing dB
and he was just like, bro, like we could use
some linemen and like, I mean, I wasn't doing well
at air Force, and I knew I wanted to kind
of be closer to home. I also wanted to be
(45:56):
at another great academic institution.
Speaker 4 (45:58):
So Virginia just made since well, and you have an
incredible career Virginia and it you know, in the ACC
and you end up at Michigan, so to just share
with him. How did that transpire.
Speaker 6 (46:11):
Going from Virginia to Michigan.
Speaker 8 (46:13):
Yeah, well, after the twenty twenty one season, our head
coach he resigned, and I wanted to enter the draft,
but the you know, the scouts that I should come
back to school. I had one more year of eligibility,
so I was like, all right, I'm gonna do that.
And Michigan just kind of was the perfect fit. You know,
they were coming off a great year going to the
(46:34):
collegeotball playoffs, and I felt like, you know, me going
there and just the momentum that they had, I just
felt like it was gonna be a perfect match.
Speaker 6 (46:45):
And it was. We had a great year.
Speaker 8 (46:47):
I mean we we thought we should have went a
little further, but hey, we didn't play our best game
against CCU.
Speaker 2 (46:52):
I've never never played at Michigan, never been to Michigan,
seen movies and stories about it. Man, what's it like
running out there? Which you guys feel like one hundred
thousand in that thing? How many how many show up?
Speaker 6 (47:02):
Shoot, it's like one hundred and ten every week?
Speaker 3 (47:04):
That's nuts.
Speaker 5 (47:04):
Man.
Speaker 2 (47:05):
The most I ever played in front of was I
want to say ninety five thousand at Auburn. But man,
there's got to be a certain sense of pride running
out there because it's one of the more one of
the more iconic universities in the country.
Speaker 3 (47:17):
Man, what's that whole experience?
Speaker 6 (47:18):
Like, I mean, it's awesome, it really is.
Speaker 8 (47:20):
Just the first time he ran out we were playing
Colorado State last season and just running out and hitting
the MG blue banner. It was just an awesome feeling.
And then as the season wore on. I mean, when
you're in it, you don't realize the magnitude. But now
that I'm out of it, you know, just it was awesome.
Speaker 3 (47:36):
These stadiums are nothing in the NFL now, Like.
Speaker 6 (47:40):
They still get loud, though they you're real loud in NFL.
Speaker 4 (47:43):
These stadiums get loud well because Michigan, if you've ever
been there, it's you know, it's built down as well,
but it's got that Rose Bowl feel because it's completely
one section and it's open. And while there's one hundred
thousand people there, I don't know if it's louder than
We and Field when that thing gets cracking up.
Speaker 8 (48:02):
Looman is definitely louder, and the infrastructure the fans.
Speaker 6 (48:06):
It's all of it, all of it together. It gets
real loud in looming.
Speaker 4 (48:09):
Now it's it's it's so cool, man. I mean, for
those who haven't been there, I was telling you, it's
just an experience. You got to go to a game,
just experience because it is no one sits down. I mean,
it's as close to a college atmosphere as you can get.
Speaker 2 (48:22):
Yeah, man, you know what kills me when sinners get
penalties for looking down and looking up, looking down and
looking up, you know, and they called a flag of
a false start on the center, I go, what did
he do? Do they give you an explanation about is
there a certain technique you're supposed to do with with
your head moving?
Speaker 3 (48:37):
Important?
Speaker 2 (48:38):
Like, how do you avoid those penalties?
Speaker 8 (48:41):
You avoid in best by pregame kind of going to
talk to refs and looking what they're looking, what they're
gonna call looking for, you know, just the different things
because you know, the NFL sent out memos to the
rest of certain things they want them to call just
so they keep the integrity of the game. So but
just having that conversation, if you try to do it
after you get a penalty during the game.
Speaker 6 (49:00):
It's probably not gonna go, well, they're probably just gonna
ignore you.
Speaker 8 (49:03):
So get them at the right situation and just talking
to them and being calm, because you know, if you
meet them and you're not in the calm state, no
good is coming from that.
Speaker 2 (49:11):
Is there like a how quick you do it?
Speaker 7 (49:13):
Like?
Speaker 3 (49:13):
What feedback do you get when.
Speaker 2 (49:14):
You have that conversation with the referees? Do they tell
you look, slow it down before you snap the ball
and you're looking and pointing, What type of feedback do.
Speaker 8 (49:21):
You Yeah, I mean it's definitely like they don't want
the jerky movements.
Speaker 6 (49:25):
They want like smooth and fluid movements, so they do
give you that food that feedback.
Speaker 8 (49:29):
Luckily, I haven't had a false start this year, so
hopefully I can continue that throughout.
Speaker 4 (49:34):
They don't call anything on offensive players and except last week,
you guys do the wildcat? Is it called the tush push?
Is that what it's called? Brotherly show? I don't know.
I see the signs. I guess I just got in
trouble on the air, but they called it was actually
I think your hand that was next to the ball,
(49:56):
but they called it on the guard. They got that
one wrong, I believe. Did they get you guys an
explanation on that.
Speaker 8 (50:01):
We tried to get an explanation in the umpire or
the deuce spot and ball. I think it was the
ump he he didn't say anything. So one of one
of those times, like you know, they just call a
penalty and right in the heat of the moment, they're
probably not gonna say nothing. They're just gonna want you
to play the next down. But it you know, we
talked about it in meetings that it was. It was
a play that the rest are going to just try
to you know, referee more than usual, just I guess
(50:25):
with how will Philly has been running and how other
teams probably been in the neutral zone and things of
that nature.
Speaker 6 (50:30):
So we knew that they were gonna call it tight,
but we thought we lined up correctly.
Speaker 4 (50:35):
They got that one wrong. Yeah, I think they saw
your left hand which may have been in the neutral zone,
but I mean the other center. I mean, you could
have both your hands on the ball it's in the
neutral zone or on there.
Speaker 3 (50:45):
So you just said you had no penalties. He's trying
to give you one right now.
Speaker 4 (50:48):
No, no, no, guard on No, they called it on
the guard, but I know that the guard and it
wouldn't have been that penalty if they had have known
it was a center.
Speaker 2 (50:55):
Okay, I'm trying to.
Speaker 4 (50:59):
Be so you know, I mean, I don't mind penalties
on offense.
Speaker 2 (51:03):
Hey man, you know, before we let you get out
of here. Man, what's it been like in the Northwest?
You know, I came from California, Paul came from California,
and you make the move. You're a bit further, coach
is a bit different.
Speaker 3 (51:14):
But how do you like it so far?
Speaker 6 (51:15):
I like it a lot. I haven't really got out
and been able to experience.
Speaker 8 (51:19):
Me I'm trying new restaurants, so I guess that's my experience.
But you know, just experiencing like all the outdoor stuff.
I'll probably get more of that in the off season
when I got more time.
Speaker 6 (51:28):
But you know, my brother just moved in. He's a
travel nurse and he went his days off. He'd be
doing a lot. He said.
Speaker 8 (51:36):
He loves Seattle, so and he's been a lot of
different spots in the country.
Speaker 3 (51:39):
So folk go to ch'all check it out.
Speaker 4 (51:41):
Well, I was going to say Bellevue Collection with his sponsor.
You can hang out here for a month and not
hit every restaurant, and they're so good around here. It's
a whole Lincoln Center as well as in Bellevue Square,
and it's called the Bellevue Collection all the restaurants, so
it's pretty good. Okay, So real quick, have you found
a favorite place that you want to eat? Is that
(52:03):
your go to that they treat you right but at
the same time leave you alone.
Speaker 8 (52:08):
My favorite spot actually been to Fogo, But man, I
like this spot called lake House. It's in Bellevue. It's
a nice restaurant. On one of my teammates put me on.
I've only been once because you know, it's like you said,
there's so much place to eat, so I don't want
to double dip. I want to just keep experiencing and
find a new favorite spot. But lake House is probably
(52:29):
the one that comes to my mind.
Speaker 4 (52:30):
It is a food different than where you grew up
from Maryland or is it kind of similar.
Speaker 8 (52:35):
There's more options out here, that's the one thing I'll say.
But growing up in the DMV, like there's so many
cultures they got they have you can eat everything. But
when I say there's so many options, like just with
like how fresh things are, like being right next to
the water and the different seafood options.
Speaker 6 (52:51):
So yeah, that's the difference.
Speaker 3 (52:52):
All right, man. We'll let you go a Baltimore.
Speaker 2 (52:55):
They do a dance. I know what it's called. You
do that dance when you go back home with it.
Speaker 6 (52:58):
Now, I'm from South Okay. They got the avenue, they
got the month, they got a whole bunch.
Speaker 3 (53:05):
Of figure, a whole bunch of stuff going on out.
Speaker 4 (53:06):
There, right Are you we a command redskin fan back
in the day, No gup of packers. Wow, that's really
all there.
Speaker 2 (53:14):
You go, and you know, one more time for Olu man.
We appreciate the time. Coming up next, but we'll go
inside the film room. We'll look at Jackson Smith and
Jigoba's touchdown. We got Jake Bobo's touchdown, and also Devin
Witherspoon lighting up ron Dell Moore.
Speaker 3 (53:26):
That is next right here on Hawks Live.
Speaker 1 (53:28):
Hawks Live appreciated by the dining district of the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Square Center, Cord Live on air on
Seattle Sports.
Speaker 3 (53:38):
Welcome back to Hoggs a live man.
Speaker 2 (53:40):
We were just joined by Olu Olawoo, Timmy nice young man,
Paul Moyer, nice young man. So that was signed for
us to dive into the film room. Me and Paul
are sitting there trying to break this thing down. The
first play we're looking at, Geno Smith finds Jackson Smith
and Jigba for a twenty eight yard touchdown, its first
of the of his career.
Speaker 9 (53:57):
Mistol Formation play fake two. In this Gino's gonna throw.
Speaker 7 (54:01):
Quite down the scene touchdown Shay Hawks jays Man, who
with the touchdowns his first career score in the National
Football League.
Speaker 9 (54:13):
Tyler Lockett picks up the ball.
Speaker 7 (54:15):
He's gonna save it for the rookie out of Ohio
stage twenty eight.
Speaker 9 (54:20):
Yards and a dark thrown by Gino Smith.
Speaker 7 (54:24):
The Seahawks on the board first they lead six to nothing.
Speaker 2 (54:29):
All right, So what we're seeing right here, we got
Gino and shotgun formation, got two receivers to have left
of Gino, and then you also have no offense in
a two point stands. You got trips essentially trips or
tray however you want.
Speaker 3 (54:41):
To call it.
Speaker 2 (54:42):
And Noah Fense is the closest to the line of scrimmage.
He releases and runs a deep cross. You can call
it the post if you want to. Then you got
Tyler Lockett, who runs the corner route. Then you also
will have Jackson Smith a Jiggba who's outside of Tyler Lockett.
He runs the post and something happens with the safety.
Buddha Baker doesn't flow with the post, ends up going
with the corner up top. The safety is held by
(55:03):
Noah Fence Cross and Jackson Smith and Jigba is wide open.
Speaker 3 (55:07):
More what you see?
Speaker 4 (55:08):
Well, you and I talked about this a bunch. I
mean my first thought was, oh, they blew coverage, and
then I kept watching this more and more, and I
don't know if they're playing quarter quarter half and somebody
screwed up the way we used to teach quarter quarter half.
You'd run with the number three receiver down the middle
of the field because that's the weakness of the defense.
Middle of the field's kind of like covered to an extent.
(55:29):
But then I think maybe they just said, look when
we have a spread between the inside receiver and the
outside receiver. In other words, the inside receiver threatened Buddha
quick and Buddha said, I am now manned man with
this guy, because that's what happens or the old days
of quarters. If once they got you know, twelve yards downfield,
(55:49):
it became manned man to you right, and then there
would be combo things. So if all of a sudden
there was an underneath roughout by the outside receiver, then
all of a sudden you would combo that guy deep
with the corner and the So I'm almost thinking, okay,
they have a little bit of spread between the distance
of the inside guys about three or four yards ahead
of JSN on the outside, and Buddha then says, I'm
(56:13):
now manned man with him, and he turns at that
point and so he doesn't see now JSN slide underneath
the route and work back to the post. So I'm
gonna give it. This was just something they gain planned
and we're looking at it going, well, that's a bust.
But let's look at it even more. And okay, when
they're downfield, what do the safeties do at that point?
(56:34):
Does it turn into man does it turn into zone
for them? And this way they probably just said they
turn it into man demand and we're gonna run basically
an underneath you know, rub type of route that's deep.
I don't know if that made sense, but it's a touchdown.
I know that to JSN and he's starting to get better.
So that's the good part.
Speaker 2 (56:52):
Yeah, man jaysaying you can see this the temple that
he's playing with the confidence in his route running. Gino
does a great job of finding Jackson, Smith and Jacob
because of not being like you mentioned during the breakman
Kobe Parkson gets beat, Gino gets hit. Nonetheless, touchdown.
Speaker 3 (57:09):
Good guys.
Speaker 2 (57:10):
This next play, Man Gino Smith finds Jake Bobbo for
an eighteen yard touchdown in the back of the end zone.
Speaker 7 (57:14):
Obo comes wide to the right, his lockett slotted inside
of him. On first and ten ball of the eighteen
yard line. Gino again hastime looking now he's.
Speaker 9 (57:23):
Going to go to the end zone. Bobo's out here.
Jump ball.
Speaker 7 (57:26):
Bobo makes a catch, but I think he's out of
the end zone. He comes down with that because he
has the ball in his hands.
Speaker 9 (57:32):
He still hasn't his hands. He's talking to the official.
Speaker 7 (57:36):
He caught it and he fell out of bounds, could
not get that second foot in.
Speaker 9 (57:41):
We're looking at Pete to see if he's going to
drop the red flag he's got in his hands. Now
he throws it.
Speaker 7 (57:47):
He was waiting for the guys upstairs here to get
a good look, well, while we were away, it is,
in fact a touchdown by Jake Bobo from eighteen yards
out one hand and got one foot in and then
the toenails on his right foot.
Speaker 4 (58:04):
It was on on the toenails. And by the way
you said early, I don't know if this is trips
or tray or whatever. We used to Actually tray was
when the running back was behind the center, you know
wherever that was. In this case, it was he was
behind the quarterback. If the back was off set to
the trip side, we called it triple, and if he
was off set to the weak side, we call it trips.
Speaker 2 (58:26):
So just let us defense make it way more common.
Speaker 4 (58:28):
Well, it was just so we knew that where the
running back was in a tray type of set, and
that was the offset or behind the line scrim Sorry,
a little coaching lesson there for us back in the day.
And this they line up again, three wide receivers to
the left, and this would be triple to me because
the back is offset to the trips the three wide
receivers and he actually motions back to the weak side,
which ends up in a trip's formation.
Speaker 2 (58:49):
How's that why he's trying to sound right and this
is this route, this.
Speaker 4 (58:54):
Is this is right. The route is the same type
of route that Bobo ran the week before when he
got the first or maybe it was last week when
he got the first third down conversion. It's an option
route where he fakes like he's going to run kind
of an in route and then all of a sudden
he breaks it to the fade. So a very similar
route for Bobo. I know he likes this route, and
(59:16):
he should. He's six ' four, throw it up and
that's a huge advantage. But this guy, he's a special kid.
Speaker 6 (59:22):
You know.
Speaker 4 (59:22):
Again, he's not the fast guy in the world. Runs
good routes. You got to get it to him relatively quick.
But he's got really good hands, great awareness where the
sideline is to get his his tonnail down, and that's
what it was. It was a tonenail. And we argued
about they're probably not going to give it to him
because they ruled it out of bounds. As a matter
of fact, their cornerback number twenty four, Starling Thomas the fifth.
(59:45):
He's like pumping, like yeah, because he pushed Bobo we
thought was out of bounds. I don't know if he
was celebrating though, after when they reverse that for a touchdown.
But great, great play and a great throw by both
Bobo and Gino Smith.
Speaker 2 (01:00:00):
If you're a lesson, now give it to me. Not
an option round. That's just a slantin go called that
a slowgo will be option, option will be. If you
sit at five to eighty, you have the option to
go left or right. If you're going up the shield,
it's a double I'm just.
Speaker 4 (01:00:12):
Telling you what Bobo explained what he wanted from an option.
Speaker 2 (01:00:16):
No, no, no, he said option was his favorite route.
He didn't say that wasn't option.
Speaker 4 (01:00:21):
He described that, But I'm not going to argue with
the receiver he did. I agree. I think that's more
of a double move like a Slanton go. But it
was the same type of deal he did on that
third down play, which he called it.
Speaker 6 (01:00:31):
It was.
Speaker 2 (01:00:32):
It was I digress right, Okay, next play.
Speaker 3 (01:00:35):
You'll like this one.
Speaker 4 (01:00:36):
Boy speak Spanish? You speak German.
Speaker 3 (01:00:38):
No, I speak Spanish. My wife is Mexican.
Speaker 4 (01:00:40):
There you go, I speak German. You got that all backwards.
Speaker 2 (01:00:43):
What's next, boy, we'll play. We're doing next. Devin Witherspoon
likes Rondale moore Ye second down.
Speaker 9 (01:00:49):
And one Dobbs looking to throw he doesn't. Oh my goodness.
The hit was by Witherspoon, the catch by Rondale Moore,
and how you on? I have no idea.
Speaker 7 (01:01:02):
It was a good, clean, legal shoulder hit by Witherspoon
on more who held on after picking up four yard
Holy smoke, what a shot.
Speaker 4 (01:01:13):
Yeah, I'm surprised that they didn't call that unnecessary roughness
on that he just has a feel. Somebody asked me
about this hit, and I said, you don't see a
lot of big hits anymore. Because the target line's so small.
You see a lot of what they call unnecessary roughness
or penalty. Still big hits, but you don't see very
(01:01:35):
many where it's clean. They don't throw the flag on it.
And and partly, as I mentioned, the target zone so small,
I can't have big hits, Markey. I can't hit you
really above the shoulders. I can't.
Speaker 5 (01:01:46):
You know.
Speaker 4 (01:01:47):
I can hit you at the knee, but it's just
uncomfortable for a defensive back to do. You have to
have unbelievable athletic ability to do this. It's again, he's
had more big hits already in his career than I
did in my career doesn't have as many interceptions. That's
why twenty one is still out there more than him
double digit somewhere. So, but what he has from a
(01:02:10):
complete game, the way he can mirror a receiver his length,
knocking down passes, he has a lot of passes. Defense,
he might lead the league in it, the way that
he can intercept, and then the way he plays in
the run game. And then to have this type of hit,
I don't know if we have a guy on our
team that can do this. Jamal can to an extent,
(01:02:30):
but Jamal didn't have that kind of quickness, you know,
the lateral quickness like this guy does. It's just God given.
And you know what he loves. He loves football, and
he's one hundred and seventy five pounds. He plays like
he's two hundred and forty pounds, and he loves knocking
people out. It is fun.
Speaker 6 (01:02:51):
Moyer.
Speaker 2 (01:02:52):
You had eleven of them things, eleven interceptions six and
nineteen eighty eight.
Speaker 4 (01:02:56):
It had three call back in eighty eight to really
hurt my feelings. Proble drop alternate should have been, should
have been? You know, that's popularity content it is.
Speaker 3 (01:03:05):
It is, Paul.
Speaker 2 (01:03:06):
What I like about this play right here is how
incorrect me if I'm wrong with a Spoon gets off
of his responsibility and just plays football right. It looks
like he might have depending on how you're playing it right.
You might have a quart over there, or you might
have the flat. Either way, his responsibility is the number
one receiver. Then he flies off of that and smacks
(01:03:28):
the number two receiver at some point in a play.
You just got to play football right, and he sees
the ball being thrown, he says, you know what, I'm
gonna go ahead and make a play. That's probably my
favorite part about this.
Speaker 4 (01:03:38):
Yeah, I mean, you brought up a really good point
on this. There are some people that just don't know
how to play the right distance between two different receivers
in a route. So his guy probably messed up. He
should have cleared him out, but he didn't. He actually
end up hitching up as well, and so the outside
(01:03:58):
receiver and Witherspoon's on the outside, his guy is receiver
hitches up about five six yards. Witherspoon shuts it down,
so he has about a five yard cushion. So in
case the guy does run a hitch and go, or
they bring another route tried it behind him. He's in
position that he can fall off to that, but he's
watching the quarterback too, and he's feeling the other receivers
and as soon as he starts to make that throw,
(01:04:20):
he is gone like a bullet. Matter of fact, Jamal
is on this guy, and Jamal is like three four
yards away because the guy is so quick on that
out route and Witherspoon, I don't know, man, he runs
a four to three, but on football field he runs
a four to one.
Speaker 2 (01:04:35):
Yeah, man, the young man can play. Okay, that was
inside the film room. When we return, man, we're gonna
break down and talk that tough. Make sure you come
join his hair at Hawk Slide with the Bellvy Squares.
Speaker 3 (01:04:44):
Send the court.
Speaker 2 (01:04:45):
You have a chance to win gift cards when the
Diny just got the Belvy collection tonight they're getting away
gift cards. That focal to chau and Castilla Restaurant. All right,
talk that talk is next right here on Hawk Slot.
Speaker 1 (01:04:56):
It's time to talk that talk with Michael Buppis and
Paul Moyer on Box Live.
Speaker 2 (01:05:05):
We are back Talks Live. Great conversation with a coup.
Sun just made the Newport Select basketball team. Congratulations there,
I'm Michael Bamas with Paul Boy.
Speaker 4 (01:05:19):
Montgomery.
Speaker 5 (01:05:20):
You get it.
Speaker 3 (01:05:20):
You start talking some golf man.
Speaker 4 (01:05:22):
He comes back and then brings me out to Glendale.
Did you hear that? We're good?
Speaker 2 (01:05:26):
So with the network? All right, man, it's time to
talk that talk. This is when Moyer tells me that
he's right and uh, I wrong. And I might agree
with him every now and then sometimes we don't. So
we go through some topics, read them off, and we
go back and forth. You guys can clap, you can boo,
prefer you clap even if we're wrong, and uh, and
(01:05:48):
we'll do this thing. So first one, we got Moyer.
Darryl Taylor will prove he can be in every down player.
Speaker 4 (01:05:57):
Well, so I got some claps out here. I think
he's capable. I think it's gonna be challenge for him
because we've got Frank Clark here, you got Derek Call
and U. You know, Mafey has become a starter. I mean,
he's he's gonna be a really good player. He's gonna
have he's gonna he's gonna have competition for an every
(01:06:21):
day down. But you know what I want from him,
I want him to prove it to me.
Speaker 2 (01:06:25):
Now.
Speaker 4 (01:06:26):
We had on Bruce Irvin last year and he talked
about Darryl Taylor said, guy, he he's got all the
ability in the world. He's just got to want to
Does he want to be on the field every day
to challenge him? And Uh, this is his time, man,
this is his contract year. Uh, he's gonna have the
(01:06:46):
opportunity to start and he'll be on the field every
down until he proves.
Speaker 2 (01:06:52):
He can't be. That's a good point because guys tend
to turn it up a little bit when it's time
for them to get paid. And it's weird how happened
for him. Right at Jenna will Sue is gone. He
has to be the next guy up, especially this week,
because I don't expect him to play h Frank Clark
every single down or because the Tenda was getting sixty
seven percent of snaps. There's no way Frank is gonna
(01:07:13):
get that right. So let's see what d DT can do.
So is that a yes or no?
Speaker 4 (01:07:18):
I'm gonna say I'm gonna read that again. You said,
Darren Turber prove he can be an everyday player. I'm
gonna say, yeah. I think he's gonna he's gonna prove it.
I don't know if he's gonna be on the field
every down, but I think he'll prove that he's capable
of it. All right, I'm with you there, all right,
Number two. This guy's playing as good as anybody we
(01:07:39):
have on the field right now. It's been I don't
think anybody of assault because of the injury so late
in last year. Then that's Jordan Brooks. But if you
go and watch the tape, that guy is an All
Pro player. The question is Jordan Books. Will he get
All Pro recognition this season?
Speaker 2 (01:07:57):
Here's the thing, man, I'm trying to pull up real quick.
Speaker 3 (01:07:59):
Just who's up there?
Speaker 2 (01:08:01):
Because all Pro is voted on by your peers. Correct.
Pro bo is more of the fans or whatever.
Speaker 4 (01:08:05):
It's the thirds and however they do that.
Speaker 2 (01:08:08):
And when I think of all Pro in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (01:08:11):
All probe might be the media too well, Writers' Association.
Speaker 2 (01:08:16):
Okay, I think he should, but I don't think he
will because you know how they do the Seattle Seahawks.
You're tucked away up here for some reason, you get overlooked.
Unless this defense cracks like the top eight when it
comes to overall, then I think he'll start getting more love.
So I'm gonna say no, but I think that he
(01:08:36):
is playing at that level and we will continue to
play at that level. But because of just just the
politics around it just seems like the always I don't
want to say the word get overlooked when it comes
to awards like that.
Speaker 4 (01:08:50):
Well, I think his biggest challenge will be because of
the popularity of Bobby Wagner. So Bobby's gonna have one
hundred and seventy five tackles again this year. He plays
one hundred percent of the snaps. Jordan will probably be
right there with him. But if you take number of
(01:09:14):
snack productivity telling you Jordan will get there, you know
what it's gonna take. I truly believe this. It's gonna
take Pete and take some lobbying, and it's gonna take
Bobby Wagner saying that guy deserves to be all Pro,
he deserves to be in the Pro Bowl. He's playing
(01:09:34):
like it, and he needs the recognition that he deserves.
Speaker 2 (01:09:38):
You think Bobby's gonna have to sacrifice himself.
Speaker 4 (01:09:41):
A little bit this man, Yep, I do, because it's
so Look, Bobby's playing well, and once you've been All
Pro as long as you continue to play well. You
don't have to be the best linebacker. You just have
to continue to play well because you're gonna get those votes.
And the writers they're not watching it, and then they're
looking at ackles, right, they're not looking at impact plays
(01:10:03):
and the type of hits and him covering sideline, the sideline,
and I mean, look, he's really good. And now here's
the other. I know Bobby probably deserves it too. I'm
not taking anythingway from Bobby right now. He's playing the
best I've seen him play in four years. But I
think a lot has to do with Jordan, has a
lot to do with our front right now. And you know,
(01:10:24):
if you're not a top ten defense, hard to get
two of those guys nominated.
Speaker 2 (01:10:27):
You know what's crazy, the top duos in the league
when it comes to linebackers, both of them might be
in NFC West where Fred Warner and Greenlaw and with
Bobby Wagner.
Speaker 4 (01:10:37):
And Joe Jordan Brooks. I totally agree with that.
Speaker 3 (01:10:40):
Yeah, that's tough, all right.
Speaker 2 (01:10:42):
Next one, Miles Garrett won't have more than one sack
on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (01:10:47):
My Man has seven and a half on the year.
Speaker 4 (01:10:52):
Boy.
Speaker 3 (01:10:53):
Not more than one, right, not more than one.
Speaker 4 (01:10:56):
I am gonna say.
Speaker 7 (01:11:00):
No.
Speaker 4 (01:11:01):
I think he's gonna get too yep, and they'll and
I'm gonna give you the why real quick, all right.
I think the reason why is I'm watching the game
we're going to have to play. Gino cannot mess around.
The ball has got to come out unless we maximum
protect it. And we take some shots downfield that that
(01:11:22):
pocket up the middle collapses. And then and Miles Garrett
they do sometimes again they'll bring they'll force our guard
down and they'll create space. Charles Cross versus versus Garrett,
that's a tough task in itself, and that's okay, recognize it.
Get rid of the football right and Cross will hold
him off and he canna hold him off for three
four seconds. So that's one and in two. They also
(01:11:45):
are really good at collapse in the pocket. And if
Gino doesn't get rid of the ball, Gino's not a
step up in the pocket.
Speaker 2 (01:11:52):
Guy.
Speaker 4 (01:11:53):
I don't think you can retreat on this guy. He's
too quick, he's too strong. You don't want to give
this guy time. You got, you gotta get rid of
the ball. So I just think this game is gonna
be tight. We're gonna have to throw the ball to win.
I think there's gonna be opportunities for Garrett to get
two socks.
Speaker 3 (01:12:09):
I think everything you just described goes.
Speaker 2 (01:12:12):
Back to your point to where you think that it's
gonna be a low scoring game. You gotta be patient
and play the field position because you're describing Geno having
to get the full ball out quickly, and we know
that Gino is more exupposed to plays or when he
can pat the ball a couple of times, they let
things develop and take his shots.
Speaker 3 (01:12:29):
So I'm gonna I'm gonna agree with you there too.
Speaker 5 (01:12:30):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:12:31):
I think Miles Garrett he's just that good. He can
get two or three sacks and the Hawks can still
win this game. It's just about when he gets it.
It can't be the final drive. You're down three and
you need to make something happen.
Speaker 4 (01:12:43):
Yeah, there's a couple of other good ones here. I
was gonna go with this one, but I'm gonna change mine,
all right. I'm gonna change the Seahawks. And by the way,
two weeks ago, I would not have brought this something.
The Seahawks have a legit shot to compete with San
Francisco for.
Speaker 2 (01:12:57):
The NFC West San Francisco five and two.
Speaker 4 (01:13:00):
We're four into four and two game loss of.
Speaker 2 (01:13:03):
Two game skit. Sam Darnold's at quarterback. They got the
Bengals this week. Let's see what the Niners do against
the Bengals. I'm gonna say, yes, they do have a
legit chance. If the Niners did not drop two in
a row, obviously.
Speaker 3 (01:13:14):
It'd be a different story.
Speaker 5 (01:13:15):
Right.
Speaker 2 (01:13:16):
But I think because they dropped two and because of
the injuries, I think they're in there.
Speaker 3 (01:13:19):
We'll say you, I.
Speaker 4 (01:13:20):
Think they have a chance to elevate again.
Speaker 5 (01:13:22):
Right.
Speaker 4 (01:13:22):
They have really come back to the pack. I think
a lot of it is pretty because he's forced to
make big throws and they found his weakness and he's
gonna have to adjust to it. They're massively talented. But
if we get past and so my answer quick answership, yes,
well we beat Cleveland this weekend, I'm a definite.
Speaker 2 (01:13:41):
Yes, all right, let's get it done this weekend. Man,
that was talk, that talk.
Speaker 3 (01:13:46):
I don't know who won that.
Speaker 4 (01:13:48):
There's a tie.
Speaker 3 (01:13:48):
It's a tie.
Speaker 2 (01:13:49):
All right. When we come back, we'll get our show recap.
In final thoughts, the key to victory. That is next
right here on Hawk's lot.
Speaker 1 (01:13:57):
Hawks Live presented by that dining District of the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Squares Center Court, live on air on
Seattle Sports.
Speaker 2 (01:14:06):
You are listening to Talks Live. It's the final segment.
We got our soldiers out here. I salute all of
our fans. It went from five hundred to about one
to fifty.
Speaker 4 (01:14:15):
Yeah, but it's a good one fas good one fift
you know. I mean, it's it's the people. It's kind
of like at a wedding. Everybody there is the people
I want there right. How you feeling about this weekend?
I'm honest, honest, you I just having a No one's listening,
no one's me. How you feeling.
Speaker 3 (01:14:32):
I'm nervous.
Speaker 2 (01:14:33):
I am nervous about this game for a couple of reasons.
Backup quarterbacks play their ends off against this team. McCoy
Wolford Purdy at the time, we're trying to figure out
if he was legit or not.
Speaker 3 (01:14:47):
So you got PJ. Comedy.
Speaker 2 (01:14:48):
He hasn't completed a touchdown yet. But the thing that
always keeps you in the game is your side of
the ball.
Speaker 3 (01:14:54):
It's defense. Right my side of the ball.
Speaker 2 (01:14:55):
You can score forty five points, but someone can score
forty seven, and you have to be more efficient. Right,
There's more pressure when you got to go shot for shot.
When you got a defense that can go in there
and make a play for you and keep you in
the game and shutdown on offense. Those are the teams
that scare me the most. So I look at this
matchup and I say, all right, if Gina was playing
a bit better off these last two games, I might
(01:15:16):
feel better about it. If we didn't just have our
first one hundred yard game Russian, I might feel better
about it. We've only had one receiver have over one
hundred yards this year, So I look at just what
the offense has and haven't been doing. Struggling in the
red zone only thirty six percent on third downs. I go,
this is this is set up for the Cleveland Browns
to play a really good football game. So I'm nervous.
(01:15:38):
I think the Hawks can get it done, but I'm nervous.
How are you feeling about it?
Speaker 4 (01:15:42):
Well, it's I was going to ask you a follow
up question on what is the best matchup for us?
And you know, in the old days, you know, during
the Super Bowl runs. I'm like, let's play a week
offense great excuse me, a great offense week defense, because
our defense was so good and you know, as long
(01:16:03):
as we could put some points on the board, twenty
plus points, I think we're good. I think this is
that game too. You know, if we can get to
twenty points, I feel pretty good about this one. I mean,
they're backup, they're starting, and backup running backer looks like
they're boat well. I know one of them's out. Probably
both are out. You know, you got a backup quarterbacks,
not a great thrower. They've won two games, but not
(01:16:23):
because of him. I just this game. The reason why
it makes me nervous is I think Hugh or Houston,
I think Cleveland can force us into some distress where
we're trying to force things and maybe turn the ball
over and that can't happen. And I you know, again,
Gino's played really well, but he's had like two bad
(01:16:44):
decisions the last two games in each game. We can't
have those two bad ones. You know, he cannot say, oh,
I think that I'm going to force that that can't happen.
The other one for me is Gino last year had
fifteen touchdowns when the ball traveled more than twenty yards
in the air. We've got one this year, right, and
we've got to score some easy ones. I just again,
(01:17:06):
I don't see us having a bunch of long drives.
I think this is probably one of those games you
have six seven punts each win with some field goals,
a timely touchdown here there, and you know, hopefully you
force a couple turnovers to make it easy for our offense.
Speaker 2 (01:17:19):
If you're the Cleveland Browns, are you bringing pressure and
manning up on the back end.
Speaker 4 (01:17:24):
Well, that's what they do, uh, And like they're not
blitzing a lot. I mean they can rush with four guys.
They'll do a lot of five man rush though, and
you see them, they'll they'll play their right corner. I
think it's sorry, I'm trying to visualize now, the right corner,
whatever corner. He'll play a lot of man. He don't care,
you don't care who he's on. Safety's not cheating over
(01:17:45):
that way. He's up and bump. And if we got those,
we got to take the shot. And you know we
got height advantage with both DK and maybe you do
a bobo one. I think JSN has some opportunity. I
mean to I mean, we got lots of guys, we
got duesc I don't know if he's gonna play. They
played really well in camp and in the preseason. We
were really excited.
Speaker 3 (01:18:05):
Before I forgot about D. D is activated.
Speaker 2 (01:18:07):
I heard you say that on a Whyman and Bob
show today that D is activated.
Speaker 3 (01:18:11):
Where does he fit?
Speaker 2 (01:18:12):
Is there even room for D right now in this
receiving group?
Speaker 4 (01:18:15):
Yeah, I think there's room. You know, you're gonna carry
five white, five wide receivers. So maybe Cody's down Uh
at that point, I don't know. I mean they're gonna
have to look at the special teams. Maybe they don't
activate him this week. Maybe it's you know, another week
down the road, because you know he's got to get
his football legs on him too. But he's explosive and
all of a sudden, you want to go for wide outs.
(01:18:37):
You know there's you got two pretty good slot guys
right there. DK is not one hundred percent. You know,
there's nothing wrong with having a lot of good athletes
out there and spreading it around. And we already know
this last week DK was out, Gino was more to us.
I'm just gonna throw it where the defense isn't right
(01:18:57):
rather than I gotta go here right. And that's why
he's at his best and when he's not forcing to somebody.
But we are gonna have to take some shots downfield,
and I don't know how much time DK is gonna
get though.
Speaker 2 (01:19:09):
All right, real quick, before we get out of here,
Will you be wearing the throwback Paul moy yeazy on Sunday.
Speaker 4 (01:19:17):
Yeah, you'll be seeing that. You'll be seeing the big
shoulder shoulder pads sure, which weird. My wife wore my
jersey not that long ago, and I go, how did
I get in that thing with shoulder pads tight? I mean,
it'll be tight on me now, and you know, and
I like to think I'm okay right now, but that
just shows how fit we were about that back in
(01:19:40):
those days.
Speaker 3 (01:19:41):
Man, I won't put mine on.
Speaker 4 (01:19:42):
I'm gonna bring an extra one.
Speaker 2 (01:19:45):
Just for you.
Speaker 3 (01:19:46):
I'll wear for you, all right.
Speaker 2 (01:19:49):
Special things to Miles Adams and olda Olawood to.
Speaker 3 (01:19:52):
Me for joining the show.
Speaker 2 (01:19:53):
