broadcasting live from Bellvie Squares in the Court. This is

Speaker 3 (00:33):
It's been a good year, Paul, Yeah, no, we you know,
we love being here and you guys have been awesome.
Thanks for showing up again for our last Thursday and
the happy holidays?
Speaker 4 (00:43):
Is we we? I don't know, man, we finally, Man,
this is just crazy.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
This is it, man, Get your shopping done now. This
is my nightmare. Honestly, the mall is my nightmare. I
don't like going to the mall unless I'm going to
Belvy Squarts in a court obviously, good call. You know
you get the Rolex over there. My text bracket does
not allow me to buy Rolex yet, but I'm just
hoping to get like you when I grew up, Paulmoyer.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
What an Apple Watch?
Speaker 5 (01:07):
There you go, that's the modern Rolex.
Speaker 4 (01:09):
I can't afford a Rolex. And no, but this has
always been good.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
This is our second year here and they've treated us
well and they've Today we're at again at the suite
god Man.
Speaker 4 (01:19):
Good people. Lisa the owner there.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
And Angela are our server, who's every time we walk
in there. So weird because I'm all about customer service.
We walk in there and they know who we are.
They actually know what we ordered. Last they had reserve
seating for us. And yeah, it's just been a really
good partnership.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Yeah, they hook us up. They hook us up. But
we are here to talk about the Seattle Seahawks and
last week are you lose to the San Francisco forty
nine Ers twenty eight to sixteen. But it was a
good game, honestly. Now I know you look at the score,
you can look at the explosive plays you and I.
Speaker 5 (01:53):
Were talking about.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
Look ten plays for the forty nine ers had three
hundred and sixty five yards. We knew they were gonna
be explosive. We knew that you had to wrap them
up and tackle, but you know you were still in
the game. You lose twenty eight to sixteen. You got
Drew lock your backup, a quarterback getting his first start
since what twenty twenty one? I believe November eighteenth was
(02:15):
the date. He goes twenty two or thirty one, three
sixty nine, two touchdowns and two interceptions. You and I agree,
one interception wasn't on him. You hit his elbow. Boom,
the ball comes out like a duck. But this was
a battle, and this game right here gave me hope
for this week. But let's focus on this game for
a little bit. What did you see in this battle
with the forty nine ers and what gets you optimistic?
Speaker 6 (02:38):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (02:39):
I don't want to say they're easily correctible things.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
I thought we matched their intensity.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
The bummer was the very first play of the game,
the seventy two yarder. It just kind of I mean,
that was an immediate you know, all the win came
out of the sales. But I just thought the way
we responded, I mean, we come right back, we score
a touchdown, we take the lead ten to and we
actually have a third and eleven play where I'm like Okay,
we're about to get off the field again. There had
been three drives in a row that we had shut
(03:07):
them down, and we don't play it very well. We
play it really poorly, and they end up getting a
touchdown to Deebo Samuel's on that one.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
It shouldn't have happened.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
It did.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
Been a lot of talk about Pete, you know, with
some of the players and you know, just making sure
that they're accountable for things. But I just thought we
matched them physically, and I know the score and it
didn't look great, but it actually was pretty good. It's just, man,
there was just these big plays, and really that is
normally the difference. I've never seen that many big plays.
(03:39):
And it wasn't like they threw a big play and
we were both there and they happened to make a
catch over us and they made a spectacular play. We
just had eight or nine bonehead plays and against I
think the most talented team in the NFL right now.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
That can't happen.
Speaker 5 (03:55):
No, you can't what.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
Deebo Samuel had seven receptions for one touchdown. Brandon Ayuk
had six catches for one to twenty six no touchdowns.
George Kittle had three for seventy six in one touchdown.
Chris McCaffrey sixteen carries one forty five no touchdowns. But
you're right, this is the most talented team offensively in
the NFL in my opinion. When you talk about the
(04:18):
San Francisco forty nine Ers, Rock Purdy had himself.
Speaker 5 (04:21):
A day, but it's about the Seahawks.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
Man, and you're down ten to fourteen going into the half,
you give yourself a chance in the fourth quarter, You're
just not able to take advantage of a couple opportunities
that the defense gave you.
Speaker 5 (04:34):
And I think that's what I focus on is that.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
Look, you can look at the numbers that the defense
gave up five and twenty seven yards total offense, But
there were moments in the game where you felt like, Okay,
the defense gave the offense the ball, let's go ahead
and score, or the offense would went ahead and scored.
Let's give the defense a chance to hold it down.
They just couldn't get on the same page at the
same time.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
Yeah, I think what was frustrating.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
I think the coaches felt they really knew what the
forty nine ers did, and that's where you're hearing the
frustration from Pete. We practice this, we knew exactly their
formation in this position, what they were going to run.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
How do you not execute on that?
Speaker 3 (05:12):
And I almost think there's a point where you know,
I see if I can describe this properly, when you
coach and when you play a team back to back,
like we didn't want back to back, but within three
weeks of each other, you almost have too much information.
You know every one of their formations, you know their personnel,
you know where they are on the field, what they're
(05:32):
going to do. And so now you're coaching the players, say,
by the way, when they're in this formation, and so
as a player, you're going, okay, eighty five and seventy five,
but fifteen percent of the time they don't twenty five percent.
Speaker 4 (05:44):
You just start overthinking it.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
And I think that's what ended up happening there that
one touchdown I just mentioned on Jamal Adams. I actually
knew the play was coming because watching film, I knew
by formation down a.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
Distance, this is what they want to do.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
That doesn't mean they're going to throw that route or
throw it to that route. There's a couple of things
that they do intermittently as well. So you just go,
how do you not get that? It's just because you're
overthinking that too much. There's a tough point where you
just gotta go. We just got to go make plays, man,
we just got to go play football. We're a talented team.
You gotta still scheme it right. And I'm a big believer. Also,
(06:21):
you got to have the right matchups. And I think
this week will be interesting to see what do the
Seahawks do on third down? Are they just gonna put
the same people out there? Are you going to match
up with their personnel? And I'm kind of hoping we
make a few changes.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Yeah, that's a good point. It was the matchups that
got you right. You get your tied in and a
favorable matchup, you motion Christian McCaffrey out the backfield. He
has a favorable matchup. When I look at this matchup
this week, Igo, Okay, it's pretty much straight up what
you're gonna see offensively when it comes.
Speaker 5 (06:50):
To the Philadelphia Eagles. I'll tell you guys one thing.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
If you ever see Travis not Travis Uney, Jason kelce pool,
all right, the running back is excuse me, the quarterback
is going to follow him?
Speaker 5 (07:01):
There are little things that they do.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
They're not as deceptive as the forty nine ers. So
I look at the matchup last week and I go,
you had to be so disciplined to beat that team,
and you still had a chance late in the game
with this team.
Speaker 5 (07:13):
Of course, this is football.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
You have to be disciplined, but you're not gonna see
all the motion and movement that you've seen with the
forty nine ers. So I like the matchup honestly, Mike
k I'm not just being a homer. I'm not just
sitting here and trying to gas you guys up and
hope for the best every single week. This is a
game that these guys could win, and if they do
win this game, that could start a chain reaction of
(07:34):
winning four in a row, possibly get into ten wins
and see what happens.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
Yeah, I think Philly's in a tough situation right now too.
They've been blown out two games in a row. Blown out,
but the same teams where we just played. We didn't
get blown out by The Cowboys were certainly you know,
or the San Francisco they got blown out, And now
they're on a bit of a losing streak too, which
they haven't had to face, and certainly Hurts had that
faced and probably his whole career, right and they're about
(07:58):
to come into a hostile and look at this.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
Playoffs start Monday. Pete talked about it.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
It's win or go home over the next four weeks
into the playoffs. If we can get to the playoffs,
we will be dangerous, will be healthier. We're a better
football team than them. I'm just watching the matchups. Way,
we got more skill players. This is a really good
team though they're well coached, but right now they're struggling,
struggling to make plays. You know, Hurts when he has
(08:26):
to get outside the scheme and make plays.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
He actually has.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Been struggling the last few weeks. So you know, if
we can't keep him in the pocket, that'll be great.
He's very gifted. I really like him as a quarterback.
But they're not the same team they were the previous
twenty games.
Speaker 5 (08:44):
Good point.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
Last year they finished the season with seventy sacks led
the NFL. They are behind the Seahawks right now yep
to thirty nine, so there's an advantage there. I look
at the secondary. You got Brad Berry, who's a good
corner eight years in the league, though he can be got.
Look at Slay eleven years in the league, a corner
he can be got. It's all about matchups now, I
(09:06):
look at and we'll get deeper into the matches right,
the specifics, but I love that they are not good
against the pass. In the Philadelphia Eagles. I look at
Gino Smith, DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett and Jason when
they are going this is one deadly pass attack. So
I'm excited. Monday Night football at Loumenfield. You've lost four
(09:28):
games in a row, the first time in Pete Carroll's
career he's lost four games in a row. This is
a perfect bounce back game. But you're gonna need the twelves.
They're excited and ready to help this team to victory.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
Yeah, and honestly, I don't even care who our quarterback
is this week. Drew Locke can throw the ball. Matter
of fact, he might be I said top five. He
might be one of the top three most talented arms
in the league. The stuff he does, man, it's wild
moment stuff, the way the ball spins off his hand,
and it's effortless, and there's times you go and this
(10:00):
guy looks like he's been starting for twenty years, and
then there's one or two plays he's got.
Speaker 4 (10:06):
You know, I wish he had a ran there. Why
did you throw it there?
Speaker 3 (10:10):
But as far as arm action, he made two or
three throw then won to DK the one to Tyler Lockett.
I'm telling you those were high, high, tough, difficult throws
that he made, and it just makes it look so easy.
I'd like to have Gino back just because I think
the team is probably more confident in what he can do.
But you know, this is team why they only have
(10:31):
thirty seven sacks. They can get after you. I mean,
they're really talented up front, and so we're gonna have
to protect well to do what we want to do
in the passing game.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Moyer texted me at like ten thirty or eleven o'clock
and said, I think Drew lock might be more talented
than what people are giving him credit for.
Speaker 5 (10:50):
I watched the film.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
He can throw the full ball, but again reps decision making.
I prefer Gino, but I think Drew lock is good
enough to keep this in the game when you get
to the fourth quarter. The Hawks haven't been great in
the fourth quarter when it comes to scoring bottom three
in the league. But you know what, hey, hang around
and you'll be fine. The Philadelphia Eagles have been down
the last six games going into halftime, so let's keep
(11:14):
the good times rolling, all right.
Speaker 5 (11:15):
Coming up next, we'll.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
Dive into the Seahawks Week fifteen opponent, the Philadelphia Eagles.
Speaker 5 (11:18):
That is next right here.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
On Hawks Live, hawkss Live. I'm presented by the Dining
District of the Bellevue Collection at Bellevue Square Center Court
live on air on Seattle Sports.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
Welcome back to Hawks Live Michael Bumpus with Paul Moyer.
Our last Thursday here at Belvy Square Center Court is
presented by Belvy Square Dining District. Man. And you know
what we talked about last week, Okay, you always got
to revisit the past so you don't repeat history. Okay,
that's why we do that. We have to digest it,
(11:54):
We got to talk about it, have our therapy session,
and then we move on. So that's exactly what we're
doing right now. We are moving on. So this is
who the Eagles are on paper. Okay, Offensively, they have
the eighth ranked defense. They are averaging three hundred and
fifty eight yards per game, the eighth ranked rushing offense
one hundred and twenty four yards per game, thirteenth pass
(12:16):
offense two hundred and thirty four yards per game, and
the sixth scoring offense twenty six points per game.
Speaker 5 (12:22):
This is where it gets shaky for these guys.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
Defensively, all right, twenty first ring defense in the league.
Six when it comes to defending the run, twenty eighth
when it comes to defending the pass in twenty eighth
when it comes to points per game. So, yes, you
look at this Philadelphia Eagles team and you say, look there,
Jalen Hurts, there's a J Brown Defontde Smith. You got
(12:46):
Reddick defensively, Brad Berry's slave. Every team has their whole sweat,
every team has the holes, right, So how do you
attack this team? I think it's going to be a shootout.
I think that if the defense can get two or
three stops, the offense get things going, you score more
than thirty points, you could be in the game. The
Hawks are five and oh when they rush for one
(13:07):
hundred yards or more, there are seven and one.
Speaker 5 (13:11):
Do not do that.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
They're one and seven when they are under one hundred
or five and oh when they do they haven't done.
They haven't had one hundred yards since the Commander game.
Why wouldn't you run the ball?
Speaker 2 (13:23):
Well, you can run.
Speaker 4 (13:24):
I know that's a statistic.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
I get it, and you get behind, and but I'm like, man,
I mean there's so much to that. It's limiting possessions,
it's eating up the clock, it's it's forcing teams to
get stressed offensively. You know, I was talking about the
Huskies and I got one of my concerns in the
playoffs with them is they're going to play really big
(13:47):
offensive or offensive linemans. And you know, whether it's Texas
or Alabama Michigan in the championship game, they're so big
that they can grind the ball and eat possessions away
and time. And also you start to stress offense. And
it's the same thing when you run the ball, you
stress another offense. They go, oh, man, we have to
score on this drive. So and I know it's easier
(14:10):
said than done. I mean, you got to do what
the defense gives you. And it's not like it'll be easy.
Their front four is good. I'm actually surprised there twenty
second in total defense, but.
Speaker 4 (14:21):
They are six and rush defense, those are just yards.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
Those don't mean anything. I look at yards per carry.
It's gonna be a tough game. But I really think
we got to get back to our identity. Here's the
weird thing. I don't know Philly's identity. I was watching
them on film. I go, what are they trying to do?
Speaker 4 (14:38):
You know?
Speaker 3 (14:38):
I mean, they've got skilled players all over the board.
They're actually I think there were kind of a mere
image of each other, you know, other than and the
quarterbacks point of view, I don't know what they're trying
to do.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
That's the thing is they have when it comes to
receiving yards, the number two receiver in the league. When
it comes to running the football, they got a top
four running back as well, and DeAndre swi if he
has one hundred all right, excuse me, eight hundred and
twenty two yards. So you look at it and you go, okay,
how are they going to attack you? But then you
look at Jalen Hurts. He will turn the football over.
So you watch the film and you go, you go, okay,
(15:12):
how are they going to attack you? How do they
prefer to attack you? I think they're an opportunistic type offense. Right,
So when we look at our offense in the Seattle
Seahawks our defense.
Speaker 5 (15:22):
Let's say here are the numbers.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
Overall, they're the twenty eighth ranked defense, allowing three hundred
and sixty seven yards per game. When it comes to
defending the run, they are twenty third, allowing one hundred
and twenty three. When it comes to pass defense, they're
twenty fifth, allowing two hundred and forty three yards per game,
and then points allowed per game twenty seventh twenty four
points per game. So you look at the Seahawks defense
and you go, Okay, you're gonna have to defend everything
(15:45):
because you're not really good at anything or not great
at anything.
Speaker 5 (15:48):
But to start the season, I thought the.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
Secondary would be the strong point of this team. I
think there are two. But I think that the loss
of a chinna and then a boy of Mafy kind
of cooling down a little bit has hurt this see
but Lyndard Williams and Jay Rieda played pretty good as
a playoff.
Speaker 3 (16:04):
No, I still think our secondaries, if you allow them,
if we match up properly, I still we don't have
to cover that in a second. You got to match
up with teams properly where I think we've been hurt.
You know, you no secret. It's to me, it's the
middle of the field, it's the linebackers, it's the mismatches
(16:24):
along the way, and I don't feel like we've matched
up with the other teams properly. We're gonna have Trey
Brown on later, so you know, we'll ask a little
bit more about that.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
But you know, we're skilled across the board. We're young.
Speaker 3 (16:36):
I mean, look, Trey Brown's in this third year. You know,
you got one who's in the second year. You got Witherspoon,
who's a rookie. I mean, these are young guys. I mean,
they're they're they're gonna get hit every once in a while.
The guys, though, I really think they got to step up,
as you know, certainly Jamal Adams, and to me.
Speaker 4 (16:50):
It's Digs as well. They just haven't played to you know,
what we had hoped they would be.
Speaker 3 (16:55):
This is a really good matchup, though, I'm excited to
see it. It's a playoff atmosphere. I mean, there's no
question Philly needs to swin if they want to try.
And I don't think they're going to get the number
one seed. I think the forty nine ers are just
they're on such a role. Two yeah, Cowboys too. I
think Philly's going to struggle a little bit and they're
starting to get the hard part of their schedule as well.
So good matchup, man. We'll find out if we're a
(17:18):
playoff team on Monday.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
Here are some reasons to be optimistic about this game, right,
all right? The Eagles, they have ten wins. Only three
games have been decided by more than one score, so
you know, if you keep it close, you're probably gonna
be in this game. Like I mentioned, Philly has also
tried at halftime in each of the past six games.
They are four and two in those games. But they
(17:41):
give you hope, they give you life.
Speaker 4 (17:43):
Right.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
Philly is horrible on third downs Offensively, they allowed opponents
to convert on forty eight percent of the time when
it comes to third downs, the worst in the NFL. Last,
but not least, teams are scoring seventy percent of the time.
If you get into the reds one against this team,
that is the third worst in the NFL. So I
look at the Philadelphia Eagles and I go, all right,
(18:04):
this is a good football team. Right, You're not ten
to three on accident but you have some flaws. If
you are able to press the issue to get in
third and short, to get inside that red zone, get
a lead before halftime, you can position yourself to win
a ball game. And I think that's probably what the
Hawks have been missing, is is that positioning right, putting
yourself in it in a spots where you feel really
(18:26):
good about your team in the second half and late
into the game in the fourth quarter. They are the
bottom four the Hawks when it comes to scoring points
in the fourth quarter. What is pete say, can't win
in the first, second, third, you can win it in
the fourth. I'm looking at this game and go win
it in the first, or position yourself in the first
and the second, win it in the third and the
(18:46):
fourth quarter.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
Yeah, no, no, no question. I mean we've given up
some double digit leads in the fourth quarter this year.
I mean they hurt us. I mean you go back
and look at just our schedule.
Speaker 7 (18:56):
Man.
Speaker 4 (18:57):
Look there are three games.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
Where absolutely should have won, you know, and we did
and now we're in the hole.
Speaker 4 (19:02):
We are.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
We're a good football team, man, Don't take our record
at six and seven.
Speaker 4 (19:07):
We're a good football team.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
We just played some you know, we played the forty
nine ers twice, so the best team in the NFL. Now,
we got a little better on the road last week
and then obviously the Cowboys the game we should have won,
the big one. To me, it killed. This was against
the Rams. So why is Monday a playoff a game?
Because nine and eight is not getting in for the Seahawks.
They lose every tiebreaker, our division record, our conference record,
(19:31):
the head to head not good. So we're gonna have
to win ten games. It's doable, but it starts on Monday.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
Hey, gotta get it done on Monday against Philly. It's
gonna be a good matchup. What I don't want to
see when Philly has the ball third and one, I
don't want to see that converting nine of the time.
You know what, I look at Philly when it comes
to the brotherly shove or the test push. It reminds
me of Jordan of the free throw line.
Speaker 5 (19:57):
Growing up.
Speaker 2 (19:57):
I don't remember Jordan missing a free throw in my
mind and growing up as a kid boy, I don't
remember Philly not converting on a third and one ever
in my life.
Speaker 5 (20:06):
It's scary when.
Speaker 3 (20:07):
Against the third and one, but I'm I'm under the
Dumb and Dumber movie.
Speaker 4 (20:12):
So you're saying there's a chance.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
I just want to say, I want them to do
that push thing and I want to be that eight percent.
Speaker 4 (20:20):
That stops him. But no, I don't want third and
one yet because I'm not dumb and Dumbo.
Speaker 5 (20:25):
No, I won't do that.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
Hey, coach, Join is here at Hawk's Live at Belvy
Square Center Court, where you have a chance to win
gift cars from the Dining District at the Bellvy Collection.
Tonight they're giving away gift cars to the Sweet Restaurant

We'll talk about that next right here on Hawk's Live.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
Hawks Live presented by the Dining District of the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Square Center Court, live on air on
Seattle Sports.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
This is Hawks Live, presented by the Dining District at
the Bellvy Collection. The show starts on Thursday. This is
our last Thursday. We put together about fourteen of these shows.
It's been awesome, man.
Speaker 4 (21:11):
How long we been doing this?
Speaker 2 (21:13):
This is like five years because NASA said it's like
eight for.
Speaker 5 (21:16):
Me, well, eight for you far for me.
Speaker 2 (21:18):
Yeah, I'm like I.
Speaker 4 (21:19):
Remember one time they asked me, they go, hey, will
you fill in? And then the next year, hey, will
you do this full time?
Speaker 3 (21:24):
I'm like, I got I got a day job, man,
I don't have time for this.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
And then and you and I have been doing it
feels like yesterday.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
Oh you get the Wally Pip on them Wally Pip.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
Well, I mean I would leave my mit. Not now,
but at the time, at the time Pitt. Now, no
one gets my seat.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
Hey guy mo, Yeah, we're doing this another year, and
you know who's doing it as well. I talked to
my mom today. Renee Bumpus, I love you. If you're listening,
you're not because you were at the Raiders game in
Las Vegas and the Raiders are up forty nine to
seven in.
Speaker 4 (22:00):
He got seven.
Speaker 5 (22:00):
They score seven.
Speaker 4 (22:01):
Because there was forty two to nothing at halftime.
Speaker 5 (22:04):
Forty nine to seven.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
The Chargers are in disarray right now. The Raiders just
lost a game by three points because they didn't score
any points.
Speaker 5 (22:15):
And now you.
Speaker 2 (22:15):
Allow that same team to do what you're doing to tonight,
man Staley, you know what, and you make a good
point Mooyer. Never feel bad for head coaches who get fired.
You know why, because their money is guaranteed. All of
us got to show up to work tomorrow right and
clock in and clock out. He signs that contract, that
money's guaranteed. So I guess emotionally he probably feels a
(22:36):
certain way, but financially he's just fine.
Speaker 4 (22:39):
Real quick, Do you know who Easton Stick is?
Speaker 5 (22:43):
I do because this is what I do for work.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
Yeah. Where'd he go to school?
Speaker 5 (22:46):
He wants Illinois?
Speaker 4 (22:47):
No, North Kota State?
Speaker 2 (22:49):
Oh, fifth round though, North Dakota State.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
I just know he was born in nineteen ninety five,
twenty eight years old.
Speaker 4 (22:57):
He's starting tonight.
Speaker 2 (22:58):
Why'd you do the charge? Why'd you throw his his
birthday out there?
Speaker 3 (23:01):
Just makes me feel like, by the way, but real quick,
Michael Bumpa's birthday, thirty eight years old, give us a love.
Speaker 4 (23:08):
Come on, let's do it.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
Na.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
Joanna also Joanna's birthday. Oh that's right, that's my birthday,
My birthday, buddy back there, all right.
Speaker 5 (23:18):
I appreciate you, love you.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
She's been a fan of the show as long as
she's been on this earth, about what six seven years
something like that. How old are you now nine nine
years she's been a fan.
Speaker 5 (23:29):
Of the show.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
Disrespected.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
I'm sorry she looks young. She'll like that.
Speaker 5 (23:34):
When she's like twenty five.
Speaker 4 (23:35):
Right, yeah, how old are you? Are you forty two?
Now I'm sixty. Okay, that's tim from all right.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
So the NFL man, now, justin Herbert, he's one of
the talents in this league.
Speaker 5 (23:46):
That baffles me because you.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
See the physical talent, you see the arm strength. He's
one games winning in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 5 (23:55):
He's mobile.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
But that goes to show you have to be in
the right situation to win in this league. Everybody that's
about fifteen hundred players in the NFL, everybody's talented. I
don't care if you are a practice squad guy, if
you're a third string guy. Everybody is talented, but you
have to be in the right situation. My guy, Herbert
seems like he's not in that situation. But he might
(24:16):
hit the restart button next year because I don't expect
Staley to be back next year.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
No, I don't either, you know, And I mentioned that
Eastern stick. He's starting to night over or over. Herbert,
who I do think is talented. I mean, he's really talented.
Matter of fact, I would. I might even take him
over Lawrence. I think I would, I really do. But
there's just something about the Charges. I don't know what
(24:40):
it is. I watch them and I go talented, I go.
I just no one ever fears them, and they're so inconsistent.
They'll go and win a game, you know, against a
really good team.
Speaker 4 (24:49):
In the next week, you.
Speaker 3 (24:50):
Know, they're down forty nine to seven, forty two to
nothing a halftime.
Speaker 4 (24:55):
That's an insane number.
Speaker 3 (24:57):
I've never experienced that in my life, and I've been
doing this a long time, you know, I mean, to
get your butt kicked that bad when talent is so
close to being equal. In the NFL, Yeah, they're there,
their coaches got I'm just looking statistically. I mean, the
Raiders have three hundred and forty eight yards to one
hundred and seventy six, and that's after a seventy four
(25:18):
yard pass that Eastern Stick finally threw to somebody to
get them on the board, so they would.
Speaker 4 (25:23):
Have less than one hundred yards at this point. I
don't know.
Speaker 3 (25:26):
I mean, the Chargers are just they're they're kind of
that team. It's just they don't have a home. You know,
they should be in San Diego and for them to,
you know, they should be. They moved up north, they
were supported in San Diego, and I get that they
wouldn't give them a new stadium. But in today's world
now with all the billionaires, you know, most cities are
saying we'll be a partner with you, but you got
(25:47):
to do the majority of it right. And they're just
too expensive, and they're just they're they're just a team
without a home and a fan base.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
I mean, it would suck.
Speaker 3 (25:57):
Could you imagine going to loomen Field and we're the
under we're the visiting team. There's so many other fans
there but yours. That would be a bummer. So I
just think the man, they're in a tough situation.
Speaker 5 (26:10):
I grew up in Los Angeles.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
All my buddies are Niner fans, Raider fans, and believe
it or not, Philadelphia Eagle fans.
Speaker 5 (26:19):
Really, I don't know why.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
Maybe that's the games that they showed us growing up,
but that's who they are. So when you look into
the crowd and you're at home and you're getting booed,
or the crowd is loud on third and short, it's
all bad.
Speaker 5 (26:32):
So let's keep going around the NFL.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
All right, So the Seahawks have been one of the
more successful teams in the league the last ten years.
Speaker 5 (26:40):
Crowd, I need some participation.
Speaker 2 (26:42):
Who do you think is another team that's been the
most successful in the league the past ten years?
Speaker 4 (26:47):
Oh? The Patriots? That's good.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
Patriots, right, The Patriots are not looking like the Patriots
as of late. Now we all know that Tom Brady
leaves to go to Tampa Bay. He wins himself this
a seventh Super Bowl, And now you're looking at Bill
Belichick and you're and was it Tom?
Speaker 5 (27:01):
Is that you me? Personally? I think it was.
Speaker 2 (27:03):
It was a combination because people forget Bill Belichick is
a defensive guy, and that defense when Tom Brady was
there was pretty dang good. I wouldn't say you have
like a top five defensive all time, but you got
guys like Teddy Bruski over there. You got the Twins,
the mccordy twins as well. They were making some plays.
So now I look at this situation in New England,
twenty years with one franchise, is it time for Bill
(27:26):
Belichick to get up out of there?
Speaker 3 (27:27):
You know, the NFL is a lot different than any
other sport man, It's what have you done for me lately?
You know, he's had two years and you and I
were talking about this when we were with the suite
for dinner. You know, the most respected, I don't know
if most respected, the winning his coach in NBA history
is Greg Popovich. He has not won over thirty four
games in five years. Last year he won twenty two.
(27:49):
They're three and twenty.
Speaker 4 (27:51):
This year they've.
Speaker 3 (27:51):
Lost eighteen games in a row and they gave him
a seven year, seventy million dollar extension. Loyal what is
that They haven't won a playoff game in seven years?
So but in the in the NFL because the money
is so big, right, it's it's what have you done
for me lately? I think this is last year I do.
(28:12):
And here's the thing. Look, can you get in your seventies?
Speaker 7 (28:15):
Man?
Speaker 4 (28:15):
I love it? Man, I'm sixty two. Don't get me wrong.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
I go.
Speaker 3 (28:18):
I got energy, man, to lead and have that kind
of energy every day to do what I mean, the
little things. It's just I don't know if you know,
I'm not saying some don't. I mean, I think some
have that ability. You know, you can tell quickly. But
I'm looking at he looks slower. You know, Pete still
got energy.
Speaker 4 (28:35):
Man.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
You know, I just look at Bill and he doesn't
have Tom Brady. And we clearly found out what the
most important thing is is Tom Brady. I think he's
gone after this year. And that's just it's the NFL.
It's life, that's.
Speaker 5 (28:48):
What it is. It's it's a young man's game.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
And the trend of the NFL is that they're hiring
younger coaches. How many guys have we seen in this league?
Even in college football too, head coaches thirty plus years
of age leading these guys. So, yeah, there's there's a
way of going on right now. And Bill Belichick he's
got to keep up, man.
Speaker 4 (29:08):
And they don't do it in the NBA.
Speaker 5 (29:10):
They don't.
Speaker 4 (29:10):
They don't hire something.
Speaker 3 (29:12):
I mean, you got a seventy four year old guy
who's the losing this coach in the last five years,
and they gave him an extension, seventy.
Speaker 4 (29:20):
Million, guaranteed loyal I guess I.
Speaker 5 (29:24):
Don't get it, man, But whatever they got Wimbin Yama.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
Yeah, I know we're talking basketball, but this is Hawk's live.
Speaker 5 (29:29):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
We'll get back to some football when we return we'll
talk to.
Speaker 5 (29:34):
Derek Young on the phone. He'll holler at us. That's
next right here on Hawks Live.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
Hawkss Live presented by the Dining District of the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Square Center Court, live on air on
Seattle Sports.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
Welcome back to Hawks the Live presented by the Dinings.
Justa have the Bellvy Collection on Michael Bumpus with my
guy Paul. It's going down here a Belvy Square. It's
definitely the hot day season. People are shopping, spending money.
Get your boy a hat if you feel generous, because
that's what I do over here. But now we're joined
(30:13):
live by our work guy, Jurek Young.
Speaker 5 (30:15):
Rick. What's something.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
How you doing?
Speaker 8 (30:18):
Hey? Thank you for having me.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
Hey, no problem, man, Thank you for joining us on
a Thursday.
Speaker 5 (30:23):
Man.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
I don't know if you have to put the game
down or what you do on your late nights, but.
Speaker 5 (30:28):
We appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
Man.
Speaker 5 (30:30):
Man, you've had an interesting year.
Speaker 6 (30:32):
Man.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
You had to battle back from some injuries. But I
like seeing you back out there. How's the body feeling,
how's the mental doing?
Speaker 8 (30:40):
Body and mental doing good? Of course, it's been a struggle,
you know, coming back from an injury. But you know
our coaching staff and I say the trainers are some
of the best in the NFL. So I'm blessedly back
on the field plan.
Speaker 5 (30:58):
Man, I love love see you out there.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
And uh, you know, the the average football fan might
not have seen what you did to Nick Bosa, but
I did.
Speaker 5 (31:11):
You set him down on this wallet, man.
Speaker 2 (31:12):
And it's always nice when US receivers canna get get
some leverage on it on a big guy like that.
Speaker 5 (31:18):
What is that like?
Speaker 2 (31:19):
Because you know what your responsibility is when the play
is called, you line up, you see who you got
to block. It has to feel good to execute on
that on that high of a level.
Speaker 8 (31:31):
Uh yeah, So we installed that play earlier in the week.
And you know, my job really wasn't you know, anything crazy,
just you know, pin the guy, don't have to destroy him.
But in the game when I started, he didn't see
me where I was lined up at and he thought
he was just going one on one against you know, Charles,
(31:53):
I knew that I had a clean shot on him
and I could just knock him off the seat. So
that's what I did.
Speaker 3 (31:58):
You know, you're you got now, I mean, for those
out here, we got a big crowd. By the way,
I'm want to ask you about your Christmas shopping. You
got to be here at the Bellevue Square mall right now,
But you're six to two. They got you listed at
two and a quarter. Is that about right? Yep, So
you know, so you're a man. Now you go to
college at leonor Rhyine. How much blocking did you have
(32:21):
to do when you were in college.
Speaker 8 (32:24):
I had to do quite a bit of blocking. My
sophomore and junior year. I played in the wing t offense,
so you know that's not the first time I had
to block a defensive end. So I have quite the
experience with blocking.
Speaker 4 (32:37):
I love that because I coached at Bellevue High School.
We were on the wing team.
Speaker 3 (32:40):
We have eleven state championships, and Michael Bumpus thinking it's
the ugliest offense in the world, I said, except it works.
Speaker 4 (32:47):
So now now.
Speaker 3 (32:49):
Let's transit transition you to the NFL. When did you
I mean, because obviously athletically.
Speaker 4 (32:54):
Man, we see that.
Speaker 3 (32:55):
When did you know that you could make that transition
to the NFL as a wide receiver?
Speaker 8 (33:02):
I would say officially knew like my fourth year of college,
when I had a bunch of scouts coming to see
me practice. Once our season got canceled, That's really when
I realized that I could, you know, make it to
the NFL. And then going into my fifth year, I
already knew that was my goal at the end of
(33:23):
the year. So going into that season, I just wanted
to have a good enough season to you know, get
invited to a bowl game senior role game, which I did,
and wanted to do good there that we could practice
and in the game, which I did as well. And
I knew I was going to put up crazy numbers
at my pro day, so I really just had to
(33:43):
you know, do good and everything I could control. So
now I'm.
Speaker 5 (33:48):
Here, Drek.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
We obviously in the NFL, anybody can get it any
given Sunday. You guys are on a four game losing streak,
But I'm looking at this matchup, man, and I see
a real opportunity with your team against the Philadelphia Eagles.
I know you guys feel that way. You guys are professionals.
You show up every day ready to work. When you
look at Philly, what do you see and how do
(34:11):
you see this game playing out?
Speaker 8 (34:14):
Philly is a you know, a physical team, but so
are we I feel like, you know, no matter who
you're going against, you always have a chance to win.
As long as we go in there and you know,
you know, execute, eliminate the penalties, and don't turn the
ball over. I feel like a little be victorious.
Speaker 3 (34:32):
You know, Losing four games in a in a row
is tough, man, It's tough psychologically. And I hate to
even throw this question at you because because you're probably
gonna get it's an easy answer.
Speaker 4 (34:43):
But is it hard not to lose confidence?
Speaker 3 (34:47):
I mean and say, hey, we still know how to win,
particularly against good football teams going into this game.
Speaker 8 (34:54):
Oh yeah, we definitely know how to win. You know,
it's such being on a four game losing streak. But
you know, this same team, if I'm not mistaken, we've
won four games in a row this year as well,
So we know, you know that this is a long
season and it has its ups and downs, and we're
still in, you know, the playoff race, so we're blessed
(35:15):
to you know, still have a chance to make it.
So we're just gonna take it one week at a time,
in one game at a time, and hopefully we get in.
Speaker 2 (35:24):
Now, you played some tight end right close to the
line of scrimmage. What's it like?
Speaker 7 (35:31):
Man?
Speaker 2 (35:32):
A lot of receivers aren't comfortable in that box or
you gotta have a certain mentality to play inside the box.
Do you think I guess you can't give away too much,
but do you think we'll be seeing more of view
tight in the box and helping out on the run game.
Speaker 8 (35:49):
I wouldn't be surprised.
Speaker 2 (35:50):
You know.
Speaker 8 (35:50):
It's something that I'm you know, I'm comfortable with doing.
I'll do whatever it takes, you know, for the team
to win. So you know, if that's what Shane wants
me to do, then I'll do it.
Speaker 4 (36:01):
All right.
Speaker 3 (36:01):
Here's the real question. We got Christmas about a week away.
How's your Christmas shopping going?
Speaker 8 (36:07):
I was actually at Belvy Square yesterday so I finished
up my Christmas shopping. I actually got everything I needed
early this year instead of like a couple of days
before Christmas. So I'm good on Christmas shopping for the year.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
Man, that's impressive for a twenty four year old, right there?
Speaker 6 (36:23):
Man?
Speaker 4 (36:23):
You kidding me?
Speaker 5 (36:24):
I stay got it now.
Speaker 3 (36:26):
I haven't shopped yet, but I you know I have
somebody who can do that for me after thirty five years.
Speaker 4 (36:32):
Is your family.
Speaker 3 (36:34):
Are they flying down from North Carolina or over from
North Carolina, or what's the plan for the holidays?
Speaker 8 (36:41):
Yes, I have some family members that'll be here Christmas time.
Speaker 2 (36:47):
So we got your team. You're in a tough spot
right now, right, And the question people always want to
ask is what's the mentality of the team. But here's
the advantage I have, right, I do a show from
vMac every Thursday, and every Thursday when I walk into
the building, the energy seems to be the same.
Speaker 5 (37:08):
Like, how do you guys do that? In times like this?
Speaker 2 (37:10):
I explain it for the people who have never been
in the locker room and understand that they're gonna be
ups and downs during the football season.
Speaker 8 (37:17):
Oh yeah, it's just simple. You know, never get too hard,
never get too low. We all understand that it's a long,
you know, NFL season. You know you got some players
that will get banged up. But the goal is always
is always going to stay the same, and that's to
you know, try to go want to know every week,
and you know, we've been on for the last four games.
(37:38):
But like I said, as long as we got an
opportunity to make the playoffs, you know, it's still going
to be high energy. You know, every day we're still
going to compete and we're still going to you know,
try to make it our end goal, which is the
super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (37:55):
All right. He is Dreik Young, wide receiver for the Seahawks. Hey,
we appreciate you. Good luck this this Monday. Go ahead
and get done in prime time.
Speaker 8 (38:03):
Man, I appreciate you guys, thanks for having me.
Speaker 3 (38:06):
All Right, he's a great has been. He loved watching him.
I told you, you've heard me. I go, there's a
couple of guys where I go. You have to watch him.
Speaker 5 (38:16):
Right.
Speaker 3 (38:17):
He Athletically, I mean six two two twenty five, he
can run. He ran a four to four you know, comedy,
he's got thirty cent in vertical. I mean he came
from a wing t That's why he was asking. I go, hey,
you know he hasn't had that much opportunity to actually
catch a lot of footballs, right, and you know that
that's a skill, right, I mean you got hand placement,
route running, reading things. How long does it take for
(38:40):
a guy to go from a wing tea just saying okay,
I got to take all this athletic ability now turn
it into a front line starter because I think he
has talent to be a front line start.
Speaker 5 (38:51):
Oh definitely.
Speaker 2 (38:52):
I think that he's the type of guy who will
be in the league for a while because of what
he can do.
Speaker 5 (38:57):
On special teams.
Speaker 2 (38:58):
And I think what a wing team teaches you angles
and leverage, And when you're on special teams, what do
you need? Angles and leverage? Right? That's why I think
eighty three is gonna be here for a while, because
I watched the way that he plays. I look at
him taking advantage of opportunities like sitting Nick Bosa on
his behinds are great.
Speaker 5 (39:17):
I mean I would clip that and hold on to.
Speaker 2 (39:20):
It and show my kids when they start to talk
a little bit too much and they don't know what
dad used to do back in the day.
Speaker 3 (39:25):
You know, if you coach again next year, yeah, throw
some winged tea in that offense, buddy.
Speaker 4 (39:30):
I know it's ugly, but it works.
Speaker 5 (39:33):
This is what I'm gonna do.
Speaker 2 (39:34):
I'm not gonna throw a wing tea in there, but
I will throw some elements of it, Okay, you know some.
I like the motion. I like the actual board backfield.
You know, do that on the board.
Speaker 3 (39:45):
Well, I told you the forty nine ers last year
have a lot of elements of.
Speaker 2 (39:48):
The wing tea.
Speaker 3 (39:49):
They just don't line up traditionally with two backs from
the quarterback and all that stuff. But they're fakes and
their motions and what they do pulling lineman, they're very
very wing tea is.
Speaker 2 (40:00):
It's all about creating those angles, right, and I think
Big Ray always talks about that. He doesn't feel the
Seahawks do enough creating blocking angles for their offensive lineman.
Last week I saw more of that for the first time.
I saw the angles. I saw the motions and what
that does. It makes that d line have to shift.
You put them in position that you want them in
(40:20):
and get her done. So, yeah, you know you might
see some wing t if I go back to Roosevelt
High Schools.
Speaker 5 (40:26):
Go ahead, let's do it.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
Hey, come join us here at Hawks Live at Bellvy
Scuore Center Court. Well, you'll have a chance to win
gift cards from the Dining District at the Bellvy Collection

Brown here in person. That is next right here on Hawks.
Speaker 1 (40:44):

Speaker 5 (41:04):
The show is every Thursday. This is our.
Speaker 2 (41:07):
Last Thursday actually here and it's been great and why
not in this thing with a bang? Sitting up here
as a guy who grew up in tuls Oklahoma, he
attended the University of Oklahoma. He earned four Big twelve
championship rings.
Speaker 5 (41:21):
Goodness, Graci didn't save nothing for nobody else.
Speaker 2 (41:24):
We're sitting here with Seahawks corner Trey Brown. Man.
Speaker 5 (41:27):
Give it a one time thank you, Thank you, Trey.
Speaker 2 (41:31):
How you doing man? It's it's been an interesting year
for you.
Speaker 6 (41:34):
Man.
Speaker 2 (41:34):
You're making some plays, You're battling injuries. You guys have
an ups and downs. How are you feeling right now?
How's the team doing? H Man? We just we're hanging
in there.
Speaker 5 (41:44):
You know.
Speaker 6 (41:45):
You know, back end of the season, you know, it
get tough for guys mentally and physically. Everybody got to,
you know, just take care of their bodies and stuff
like that, and man, we're just trying to finish out
the rest of the season.
Speaker 4 (41:58):
Crazy.
Speaker 3 (41:58):
Uh right, Yes, sir thirty, I mean like you're a
vet now, yeah, I mean, I mean that's pretty were.
I remember when you came out of college and we
had drafted, and I did a thing for the Seahawks
called Inside the Film Room, and then we're just breaking
down your game and stuff, and I was we pulled
the clips and it was when you played u C
l A. And and for those that were out there,
(42:18):
I go, I don't know if you'll think that much
of it, but for me, it was a big deal.
You got they they ran kind of you guys were
playing cover two. It's the time, and they ran just
a typical seven orro out with a guy in a
flat and you held off that corner route and as
soon does the quarterback start to throw up, man, you
just busted your tail and either intercepted or laid the
(42:41):
guy out.
Speaker 4 (42:41):
With three years, I can't quite remember. Do you remember
that play?
Speaker 2 (42:44):
We played UCLA twice?
Speaker 4 (42:45):
It was it would have been your senior year, so we.
Speaker 2 (42:47):
Were at UCLA.
Speaker 4 (42:48):
Yes, uh.
Speaker 2 (42:50):
And then I came, did I intercept the ball?
Speaker 4 (42:52):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (42:52):
Oh, yes, sir, So that was the play. And and
here's what I remember. I go, Oh, we got a
corner and not just a corner's got skill. I mean
he ran four to four two coming in the combine.
I go, So he's got speed.
Speaker 6 (43:03):
I go.
Speaker 3 (43:04):
But there's some things you cannot teach. You can't teach
on how long do you hold that off?
Speaker 4 (43:09):
When do I? It was third and three too? If
I kind of remember this play.
Speaker 3 (43:12):
And I go and I just say, man, there's just
very few guys who can do that. I go, we
got a playmaker. And so you are a playmaker. And
now you're you're getting your time. And you know, I mean,
you've solidified yourself as one of the corners there. But
what are you more comfortable with because you can play
the nickel two, but they kind of move Witherspoon into
the nickel spot.
Speaker 6 (43:32):
You out of corner. Do you have a preference, No, sir.
Wherever I can make plays, you know, that's what I'll
do for this team. You know, put myself in those
situations where I can go out there and help this
team the best way I can. I like corner, you know,
because I like to guard the best guys on the field.
Usually that's typically what the best guys are at, you know.
(43:52):
And you know I like to go out there and
just make those plays for my team like I've been doing.
Speaker 2 (43:57):
All right, don't have a football question for you. I'm
from I'm from California, right, So I went to school
up here, and you slowly get acclimated. I start doing
things that I didn't do when I was back home.
I start talking diff from a boys. It's like, who
is you? I noticed you got a car heart beanie
on right now. Do y'all wear that back home? Or
is that something you picked up here because I didn't
(44:17):
wear car herd until I moved to the Northwest.
Speaker 6 (44:19):
Oh yeah, we were that back at home, you know.
So so we got all four seasons, you know, So
you got to bundle up out there. So, man, I've
been working Cohart for a while since I was young,
a young kid, and I just keep it going, all right.
Speaker 5 (44:31):
So now to the football question.
Speaker 2 (44:33):
Man, your instincts, I think you and Witherspoon have some
of the best instincts.
Speaker 5 (44:38):
On the football field.
Speaker 2 (44:39):
You guys kind of like you feel the game there's
some guys who need to see everything happening in front
of them for them to react.
Speaker 5 (44:45):
I watch you guys playing it.
Speaker 2 (44:46):
It seems like you're looking there, what you feel what's
going on over there? Has that always been a part
of your game? Or is that something I develop over
time and film study. I think that's what makes you, know,
I say me pretty unique. You know, I know when
I do my job, you know, hopefully you know, the
QB's gonna look somewhere else. And usually when they do
(45:06):
look somewhere else, I'm able to look somewhere else, see
where the holes are in the defense. And when I
see that and I see someone else coming, that's when
I'm able to play off on my receiver and just
go make make a play where I can help on
the defense.
Speaker 3 (45:20):
You know, you really you look at I'm just gonna
talk about the three of you guys, wool On, Weatherspooning, yourself.
I mean, you got you know, you're your third year,
you got Wooing your second year, you got weatherspoon your
first year. I think you're all playmakers. Do you guys?
Do you guys hang out the three of you?
Speaker 8 (45:36):
Do you?
Speaker 3 (45:36):
I mean, because you're the future of the obviously the
secondary with the Seahawks.
Speaker 2 (45:41):
Do we hang out outside of football?
Speaker 4 (45:42):
Yeah, I just talk. I mean just talk.
Speaker 3 (45:44):
I mean, do you guys from a bonding standpoint, you know,
I mean, because you guys are all playmaker I kind
of feel like that personality gravitates to each other.
Speaker 2 (45:53):
But maybe not usually.
Speaker 6 (45:55):
You know, after a good day of practice, I'm sure
everybody like to go home and get to their beds,
you know, But uh man, I love those guys. We
hang out a lot inside the building. You know, don't
really do too much hanging out outside the building because
you know, everybody like to.
Speaker 2 (46:11):
Do their own thing.
Speaker 6 (46:12):
But uh man, we're all really close, and we got
each other's back through the ups and downs. So uh
I think that's what makes us really close, you know,
because we got to stick through it because you know,
the league is up and down. You know, it can
get really nasty out there. As long as we got
each other back, you know, that's all that really matters.
Speaker 2 (46:29):
So now you got uh you got Philly coming into town.
Everybody knows they got a j over there. They got Davante.
Speaker 5 (46:34):
Man.
Speaker 2 (46:34):
When you look at this match up, what do you
see and and how you guys feel coming into Monday
night football, I.
Speaker 6 (46:40):
See an opportunity, uh to get back on the right track.
You know, we've been going against good receivers all year.
Like I told those guys, man, let's get back to us.
Speaker 2 (46:50):
You know.
Speaker 6 (46:50):
Uh, you know we played, uh some of our best
games that we played was the Bengals the Browns. You know,
they got some of the best receiving the best receiving
core in the league. And when we're out there having fun, man,
i feel like we're one of the best in the league.
And you can see that on the field as we
play our best game. And uh, like I told them, man,
this is the opportunity, you know, Uh, Monday night football.
(47:11):
You know everybody's watching. So let's get back to doing
what we gotta do. You know, when the season is
not over. You know, we we get a win here
and we went out the rest and it's gonna take
care of yourself.
Speaker 3 (47:20):
Yeah, playoffs start Monday, now, there's no I mean, just
the way the tie breakers work, and you know sometimes
you're gonna maybe Now the playoffs start Monday, I'm assuming
you guys are talking about that.
Speaker 5 (47:32):
You know.
Speaker 6 (47:33):
Yeah, well, you know, you you see everybody else winning
and losing, and you know we're like, oh, this gotta happen,
that gotta happen. But it don't really matter what everybody
else do because we got to win first. You know,
once we win, not really worried about everything else because
it matters.
Speaker 2 (47:50):
It matters what we do. Right. Uh, Man, this is
the point of the season where the body starts breaking
down a little bit. I mean, if you if you've
ever played football, I don't care if you play more
in middle school, high school, in the pros. Right, this
is the type of the time of the season where
the body starts feeling a bit different.
Speaker 5 (48:06):
This is your third year in the league.
Speaker 2 (48:07):
You feel like you've kind of found a routine that
works for you to keep you playing well.
Speaker 6 (48:12):
Yeah, Cotub hot tub most importantly, that's always your best friend.
And man, I just say just what I what I
like to do is you know, go in there, I stretch,
take care of my body. You know, you got to
stay in that training room because like I said, it
gets really tough. You know what they we got with
seventeen games a year now. And man, once you keep
(48:34):
a hold of that routine, you know it can kind
of help not saying it's going to help fully, but
it'll help your body a lot more than usually compared
to a guy who don't have a routine. So once
you got that routine and you see it start to work,
you start to believe in it.
Speaker 2 (48:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (48:48):
World, not they only played sixteen games back when we played,
but I do remember this time of the year, and
it's such a mental part because you have to take
the physical therapy and taking care of your body so serious.
And you know, again not that the college has gotten
long too. I mean, you guys used to play thirteen
fourteen games too, But I mean do they talk about
(49:10):
that to you guys a ton that Hey, yeah, what
we do on the field is important, but you know
we also got to make sure, you know, we go home,
we get our rest, We got to take care of
our body.
Speaker 2 (49:19):
Of course, you got to take care of your body.
Speaker 8 (49:21):
Man.
Speaker 6 (49:21):
You know, everybody's needed. You know, we need everybody out there.
Not only are they count on you on the field, man,
we're counting on you off the field. So I can't
really do much if you're not really available, you know,
And man's that that's all that matters right there. This
is like my third year and This is really i'd
say my first year that I've really just been fully healthy,
(49:42):
you know, so I know what it's like, you know,
to be out there, you know, not be available for
my team.
Speaker 2 (49:46):
And just be injured.
Speaker 6 (49:47):
So man, it's a blessing that I'm able to play
a full season this year and show people what I
can do.
Speaker 2 (49:53):
So taking care of your body is very important. There
are some stereotypes when it comes to positions. I'm a receiver,
they say, we divas. We also want to look good.
We want the ball, and I go check, check, check
for sure it is what it is. There's some stereotypes
when it comes to DB's y'all talk the most trash
out of any position on the field. Do you participate
(50:15):
in that me personally?
Speaker 4 (50:16):
If not?
Speaker 5 (50:17):
Who who does the most trash talk? Me personally?
Speaker 6 (50:19):
Y'all don't because you can get burned that next place.
So I know, I watch what I say, and I
just I talk my trash when that clock hits zero zero,
So I really don't say much. But guys, that's you
who talked that trash and really back it up.
Speaker 5 (50:34):
Is you know Devin with the spoon, you know, saying he.
Speaker 6 (50:37):
Talks the most head that's a guy. You know, you're
gonna believe wh who's gonna talk that stuff? And hey,
I'm a I'm gonna back them up out there. But
you know me, I stay away from that.
Speaker 5 (50:49):
I tell you it.
Speaker 4 (50:50):
Don't take I was a big trash talker in college.
Speaker 3 (50:53):
Because you know, in college, you're just you're just better
than most guys. Right in the NFL, I said, I
ain't saying I said a lot to the offensive lineman
back then.
Speaker 4 (51:02):
But you're from Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Speaker 3 (51:04):
So we got a Hall of Famer from Tulsa, Oklahoma,
guy named Steve Largent.
Speaker 4 (51:08):
Of course, did you know that before you got here?
Speaker 3 (51:12):
And if you had any conversations with him, it's just
it's one of the great guys in the world.
Speaker 2 (51:15):
It's crazy.
Speaker 6 (51:16):
You know, I always talk about Tea Lock and even
Tea Lock he's also from Tulsa. Yeah, and you know,
coming up here, you know, I'm always praising Tea Lock.
And someone once told me they was like, yeah, Steve
Largin too. I'm like, Steve Largin, where's he from there?
Speaker 4 (51:30):
Like Tulsa.
Speaker 2 (51:31):
I'm like, wow, I did not know that.
Speaker 6 (51:32):
And then another fun fact is all our birthdays is
around the same corner. You know, Steve Large's birthday is September,
Tea Lock's is September. Mine is September. So I think
that is all. That's like really closed cool. They were
all from the same place and we got the same birthdays.
So man, I really did not know that. But man,
that's that's that's pretty that's crazy.
Speaker 4 (51:50):
Yeah. I played with Steve Larry he was.
Speaker 2 (51:54):
He was.
Speaker 3 (51:55):
I mean Tyler Lockett's Mason too, don't mean he is.
But Steve Largent was just just an amaze seen a outrunner.
It was just it was kind of you're low, you
to sleep because you think, oh, he's not that fast.
But yeah, he was the first guy ever to catch
a hundred touchdowns in NFL history.
Speaker 5 (52:10):
That's crazy.
Speaker 2 (52:11):
Yeah, that's crazy. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (52:13):
I see I see his record and then I'm like, oh,
t log is going to break that.
Speaker 2 (52:16):
There was one record. I was like, oh, t Lock
not even close.
Speaker 6 (52:19):
You know, I don't think. I don't think anybody gonna
touch that. That's how good the guy was, man, And
that's that's pretty amazing.
Speaker 2 (52:25):
Well a Trey, we appreciate your time, man. Uh, I know, Thursday,
it's not easy to get down here. Especially with snowflake
laying going on and all that stuff. Man, we love
seeing your growth. You've always been a favorite of ours. Man,
as soon as you got drafted. Man, we appreciate time
you got and what you're doing. All right, When we return,
we'll go inside the film where we'll talk about Drew
Lock finding DK Brock, party to Deebo Samuel All that's
(52:46):
next right.
Speaker 5 (52:46):
Here on Hawk's Lide.
Speaker 1 (52:50):
Hawks Slide presented by the Dining District at the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Square Center Court Live on air on
Seattle Sports.
Speaker 5 (53:00):
Welcome back to Hawk's Live.
Speaker 2 (53:01):
Oh, Michael Bamas with Paul Moyer. We are live for
the last Thursday of the year here at the Bellevue Collection.
It's presented by Billy Collection. Here we're at Bellvy Square
Center Court.
Speaker 5 (53:12):
Man.
Speaker 2 (53:12):
And you know what, I love what we do, Paul Moyer.
You do because you know, you get to meet people
like Joanna. We have the same birthday. She turned nine,
I turned thirty eight, not that far apart.
Speaker 5 (53:24):
It's all good, you know.
Speaker 2 (53:25):
And and she told me she got a new American doll.
Those are expensive dolls. My daughter has three of them.
It's ridiculous.
Speaker 4 (53:32):
Lila.
Speaker 2 (53:33):
I believe the doll's name is right, Lilah is the
doll's name. And yeah, man, this is the.
Speaker 4 (53:38):
Perks of what you're saying.
Speaker 3 (53:40):
Is what she said is my parents have to work
really hard and support my American doll habit.
Speaker 5 (53:46):
There you go?
Speaker 3 (53:47):
Okay, all right, all right, I never look I'm sure. Well,
my kids we were like the Beanie.
Speaker 2 (53:53):
Babies, Bannie Baby, cabbage Patch.
Speaker 4 (53:55):
Yes, wait, that's that's dating me, right.
Speaker 2 (53:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (53:59):
I used to sit with my kids and watch Lee
Miz on our bed with a VHS tape.
Speaker 4 (54:04):
How's that now? My date myself? Everybody's going, what's the VHS?
Speaker 5 (54:08):
I feel like everyone here knows what we're talking about.
Speaker 2 (54:10):
Not everybody maybe not Joanna, though, she goes, what's a
VH She don't even know what a DVD is, Like
we streaming this or what what are you doing?
Speaker 5 (54:18):
Let's download this thing? Yes, all right, let's get inside
the film room. Though.
Speaker 2 (54:21):
Man, this is something that we love to do, breaking
down some of the bigger plays of the game. The
first play we're breaking down, man, Drew Lock responds. After
the forty nine ers go three plays seventy five yards,
they score a touchdown, Drew Lock responds he finds DK
metcalf for a thirty one yard touchdown.
Speaker 9 (54:39):
Here's a first down play, fake look, throw far side,
reaching up, making the catch.
Speaker 2 (54:44):
DK makes the catch. Is he in the end zone?
Piz front corner.
Speaker 5 (54:48):
Of the episode?
Speaker 10 (54:49):
Touchdown Seahawks DK Metcalf, Are you kidding?
Speaker 2 (54:54):
Want to throw by?
Speaker 5 (54:55):
Drew Lock on the fake toss.
Speaker 10 (54:57):
And then he throws a rope right over the defensive back.
DK reaches up with those big mits makes the catch.
It's a thirty one yard touchdown. The Seahawks are a
point away from tying this baby up.
Speaker 3 (55:11):
We were looking at him more, you know, I mean
to keep this kind of simple. I mean, we do
a little motion with our wing and you know it
comes back again. Get a little bit of a wing
tee type thing, you know, with their motion. Actually, I
think they're stealing a page from the motion from the
forty nine ers.
Speaker 4 (55:27):
But this is what.
Speaker 3 (55:28):
I get excited about Drew Locke one. It's his footwork
in the pocket, right. I mean they flash on us.
Speaker 4 (55:37):
I think it's our Is it our left guard?
Speaker 3 (55:39):
No, actually it's our center, and it's just the way
we have our protection. They flash pressure up the middle
and Drew lock just kind of slides, got really good
feet in the pocket, and man, he just flicks this
thing like it's nothing. Man, I don't even know how
to describe it. It's such a beautiful throw and it's
such a perfect throw to DK, and I wish we.
Speaker 4 (55:58):
Had done more with DK on this. This is just
kind of a stutter go.
Speaker 3 (56:01):
They get a one on one with them, You get
one on one with DK, and he really if he
can push the corners into the field a little bit
to create a little space to the sideline, which he's
strong enough to do, he should do this every single time.
He should be physical in his routes downfield and that
he starts bodying guys to create that space because if
(56:24):
you do, Gino and Drew Locke can can put it
on the sideline for him. And I look, there's so
many good things on this, but I think the big
one for me is just this is one on one
and it's a great throw and a great catch.
Speaker 2 (56:38):
What I like about this play is one three tight
ends in the game. You know, I think tight ends
needs to be utilized a bit more too. I like
what they show the defense. You have your left guard
pulling right, emulating a run. You have your tight end
that's on the left side of orbit motion getting behind
Drew lock and showing like he's going to be a
(56:59):
lead blocker for Kink who's on the right side. So
you get everything flowing to the right of Drew Locke
and he knows where he's going with this football either way.
PRIs Snap tells him one on one, I'm probably gonna
go there.
Speaker 5 (57:10):
All this movement.
Speaker 2 (57:11):
Does is holds the safeties, pulls the linebackers, and just
opens up the picture for him a bit more. But
just like you said, he steps back, flicked the wrists
and the rest is all DK. And DK's concentrating to
catch that football. When the dB almost bats it down
the position of the ball man, it's it's a more
difficult catching what people think.
Speaker 3 (57:31):
Yeah, and if you go from the end zone and
again it's a little bit what the forty nine ers
did to us the first game, and that they had
brought pretty roll out to the side and pulled digs
and then they worked backside by widening Witherspoon back into
the post for a touchdown. I think you all can
remember I do. He does the same thing. He just
kind of rolls a little bit, but just just little toss.
(57:53):
Go watch Fred Warner. Fred Warner is completely fooled. But
the comment I want to make is, but my goodness,
the rest to the forty nine ers, they.
Speaker 4 (58:01):
Are on point.
Speaker 3 (58:02):
They lock up every one of our receivers on this
except for dk.
Speaker 5 (58:07):
All Right, nex's play.
Speaker 2 (58:08):
Brock Perty finds Deebo Samuel for fifty four yard touchdown.
Speaker 9 (58:12):
Now wings out on the right side, empty backfield.
Speaker 4 (58:15):
Here comes the Blitz.
Speaker 9 (58:16):
Perty has all kinds of time, stands, throws deep Deebo
Samuel out there. He makes a catch touchdown San Francisco,
and just like that, the Niners come back and take
the lead.
Speaker 4 (58:28):
A fifty four yard touchdown strike.
Speaker 2 (58:31):
All right, So this is what happens, man. You got
a two by two formation. Essentially, brock Purty motions out
McCaffrey from the backfield, so becomes an empty set and
you got Deebo Samuel who's running a deep cross. Now
we're still trying to figure out whose fault this is. Right,
I'm looking at Jamal Adams. This is a too high
(58:51):
safety look. He's looking at the deep cross and he
gets caught being a bit flat footed. I also look
at I believe that as Reek Woolen corner over there,
and it looks like he should be in a deep
third or quarters. Look either way, I feel like somebody
mess this up right here. All right, it could be Jamal,
it could be reached. But what happens is Deebo runs
(59:12):
a deep cross and you got Jamal Adams flat footed
eyes in the backfield. You don't have a corner getting
to his deep quarters or deep third. And brock Purdy
just reached Jamal. He said to himself, he goes, look
I saw Jamal. He was flat footed eyes in the backfield.
I knew that Deebo Samuel was gonna win this, so
I toss it up. What they do on the backside
of this is they have their receiver run a curl.
(59:35):
If that quarters, that corner is in cover three are
cover four, that curl is gonna make him think about
life decisions.
Speaker 5 (59:41):
Do I jump this, do I keep getting dept? What
do I do? So? Either way, this is what San
Francisco does.
Speaker 2 (59:47):
They put everybody in a buying You make a decision,
all right, You make the decision for the quarterback, and
he'll let it lose.
Speaker 5 (59:53):
Nothing too tricky. About this play.
Speaker 2 (59:55):
I think brock Purdy just saw an advantage and took it.
Speaker 3 (01:00:00):
Uh. First of all, I just hate this play. I
hate what we did with the rush.
Speaker 4 (01:00:06):
Uh. It's it's a cluster.
Speaker 3 (01:00:08):
I mean we we we we blitz both of our
line back in middle line by blitz Bobby Wagner and
Jordan Brooks. We we drop boy a mafe And again,
here's a coaching point to me. You have to take
a step across the line of scrimmage to pull that
tackle to you.
Speaker 4 (01:00:27):
He doesn't even do it.
Speaker 3 (01:00:28):
He just turns and runs because he's probably afraid that
he's not gonna get coverage on this.
Speaker 4 (01:00:33):
So it's I don't want to say it's.
Speaker 3 (01:00:34):
A zone blitz, but we we we blitz two inside
linebackers and drop our two outside linebackers.
Speaker 2 (01:00:41):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:00:41):
Instead, So again, this this is chalkboard. I love it.
Speaker 3 (01:00:45):
Hey, I'm drawing this thing up. This is gonna work
all right now. I got to coach the heck out
of this thing. So it's a terrible rush. He's got
all day to throw a clean pocket, nobody coming off
the edge.
Speaker 4 (01:00:57):
It's just not good.
Speaker 3 (01:00:58):
The other thing, I don't know if we're playing quarters
number three down the middle is the weakness of this defense.
Speaker 4 (01:01:03):
No one runs with them.
Speaker 3 (01:01:05):
Jamal on the backside kind of looks at it. I
would have audible to a cover two in this thing
because the tight formation. I don't like quarters in this situation.
I'd rather have it. And by the way, if we
had to play cover two, we would have covered this thing.
So hindsight's twenty twenty. I don't like anything about this.
It's mostly on Jamal Adams because supposedly they had coached.
Speaker 4 (01:01:25):
This, seen this, knew what was coming, and he still
didn't play it right.
Speaker 5 (01:01:29):
All right, let's be quick on this last one.
Speaker 2 (01:01:31):
Drew Lock finds Kobe Parkinson for a twenty five yard touchdown.
Speaker 9 (01:01:34):
Drew Lock out of the shotgun play fake Fake's a
throw to.
Speaker 5 (01:01:38):
The far side that throws it down the middle.
Speaker 2 (01:01:39):
Ball as caught Parkinson down to the ten down of
the five. He is in touchdown.
Speaker 5 (01:01:45):
Seahawks from twenty five out.
Speaker 7 (01:01:48):
What a beautiful play design the Seahawks and Drew Lock
fake to throw one side, then the other that has
been used against us this season, and then the throw
in the middle on the field to a wide open
tight end Parkinson, who scores from twenty five.
Speaker 2 (01:02:05):
The Seahawks back in this one.
Speaker 5 (01:02:07):
It's twenty one sixteen.
Speaker 2 (01:02:09):
Man, it's always nice when you draw a play up
or you take a play from somebody else and it
works perfectly.
Speaker 5 (01:02:14):
That's exactly what happens.
Speaker 4 (01:02:15):
You're square, man.
Speaker 2 (01:02:16):
You catch the Niners in quarters right there, and you
fake a screen to the left, you fake a screen
to the right.
Speaker 5 (01:02:22):
You get the defense to expand.
Speaker 2 (01:02:24):
Kobe Parkinson one one thousand and two, one thousand blocks
the end releases right up the middle. Everything was perfect,
The play was executed beautifully. Great job here.
Speaker 4 (01:02:35):
Stole it. Love it. Nothing else to add. Plagiarism and
football works.
Speaker 5 (01:02:41):
It always works. Not in school, all.
Speaker 2 (01:02:43):
Right, kids, too much technology. Back in Moyer's day, you
could you can copy a paper with no problem and
it'll be all good. All right, when we come back
and signed to talk that tall, we'll square up and
talk about a couple of some topics here and he'll
let me know that I'm wrong. I'll let him know
that I'm right right. That's coming up next right here
on Hawk's lot.
Speaker 1 (01:03:06):
It's time to talk that talk with Michael Buppis and
Paul Moyer on Hawks Live.
Speaker 2 (01:03:13):
Welcome back to Hoggs Live, the last one of the year.
Michael Babas with Paul Moyer. It is now time to talk.
Speaker 5 (01:03:20):
That talk.
Speaker 2 (01:03:21):
This is when we throw some topics out there and
uh we debate whether I'm right or he's right, and
he tells you I'm wrong, he's wrong. We leave, We
leave here, we have a beer in this all good?
Speaker 4 (01:03:32):
Oh wait, look, you like my wife, You're usually right.
Speaker 5 (01:03:34):
You're like my wife, You're usually right.
Speaker 2 (01:03:36):
No, I am right, I'm right. All right, let's see
who is actually right.
Speaker 4 (01:03:44):
Okay, we might agree on a few of these.
Speaker 2 (01:03:46):
We might, we might. Here's the first one. Okay, it's
for you boy. Yeah. Winning season at nine and eight,
but no playoffs would be a disappointment for this year's.
Speaker 4 (01:03:56):
Seattle see, absolutely no question about it.
Speaker 3 (01:03:59):
Massive disappointment, mainly because we were a playoff team last year.
We thought we got better and I still think we
did get better.
Speaker 4 (01:04:06):
We were five and two.
Speaker 3 (01:04:07):
At one point, you know, we were in first place
and you know we're now what four games behind San Francisco.
We were tied with them at six and three and
they've gone on a run. Yeah, a huge disappointment. And look,
it's not the losing to San Francisco twice and the Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (01:04:27):
I think you would be okay with that.
Speaker 3 (01:04:29):
Losing to Cincinnati, we shouldn't have lost to them, and
then losing the Rams twice, but particularly the last time
down there when we had a ten point lead. That
was a crusher. Yes, disappointment all the way around.
Speaker 2 (01:04:42):
Nine and eight. You repeat the same record from last year.
You don't make the playoffs. Huge disappointment. Why because you
thought you found your quarterback in Geno Smith. I still
think you have your quarterback for at least another year
or so. You thought you upgraded on the defensive line.
You've gotten rid of a lot of guys. You bring
in personnel that you feel like, bit's what you want
(01:05:03):
to do. You bring back Bobby Wagner. You get Jordan Brooks,
and you thought you were gonna have him. I thought
he wouldn't be playing until about now. I'll bring in
Devin Bush just in case you draft Devin Witherspoon. You
upgraded this football team offensively and defensively, so if you
have the same record from last year, you do not
make the playoffs. This has to be a disappointment, man.
(01:05:25):
But here what they can do. They can win the
next four and go ten and seven. I think that
gets you and possibly sneaking that thing.
Speaker 3 (01:05:33):
No, I think you get in at ten and seven.
I'm confident we would get it at ten seven, nine
and eight.
Speaker 4 (01:05:37):
We just don't. I think ten and seven we get
a nine and eight.
Speaker 3 (01:05:41):
We don't have any of the tie breakers. That won't happen.
All right, second time, all right, second or I guess
my turn. Look we put we thank your question number two.
We play some tough teams lately, obviously the forty nine
Ers and the Cowboys. We've been spread. I mean we
scored forty or thirty five points. I guess they're thirty
(01:06:03):
four points versus Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (01:06:06):
We're gonna need thirty five.
Speaker 3 (01:06:09):
Points or more to beat Philly, who has a very
good offense.
Speaker 2 (01:06:14):
All right, well, Philly has lost three games. They lost
to the Jets surprise, surprise. Yeh, what was that scored
twenty to fourteen. They lost to the Niners forty two
to nineteen. They lost to the Cowboys thirty three to thirteen.
I'm no mathematician, but something tells me you need to
score about thirty points, yeah, to win this game. So
(01:06:35):
thirty five would ensure that you win. I look at
this defense and I feel like they will give up
thirty five. I look at the offense and say they
are capable of putting up thirty. So I'm gonna say, yes,
you need to score thirty five points or more to
beat Philly just because of the weapons that they have
and the possibility of a shootout. Because you look at
both defenses and they are struggling when it comes to
(01:06:58):
certain categories, I'm gonna say that is true.
Speaker 3 (01:07:01):
Well, I mean, our defense has given up over thirty
points three games in a row.
Speaker 4 (01:07:05):
They're good teams. I don't think Philly's in the quite.
Speaker 3 (01:07:08):
The same category right now as the forty nine ers
and the Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (01:07:15):
But I think you need to put thirty plus. So
I'm gonna say, no.
Speaker 3 (01:07:17):
We need thirty one, but I need to go with
thirty five, just to give myself a little cushion.
Speaker 5 (01:07:22):
All right, thirty five?
Speaker 2 (01:07:23):
All right?
Speaker 5 (01:07:23):
Next one.
Speaker 2 (01:07:25):
Kobe Bryant deserves more of an opportunity on defense this week?
What do you say?
Speaker 4 (01:07:31):
Absolutely?
Speaker 3 (01:07:32):
Man? I feel like I wrote that question even though
I didn't. We gotta match up, man, We cannot have
that one play that when we were showing inside the
film run. We had five linebackers on the field at
third and eleven. And when I say five linebackers, to
meet Jamal Adams is another linebacker. You cannot match up
(01:07:53):
in this league with five linebackers and passing situations.
Speaker 4 (01:07:57):
The league has changed, man, It's gone to a high right.
Speaker 3 (01:08:00):
The Cowboys didn't even have linebackers on the field and
third down they did, but it was a guy who's
six foot three, two d and twenty four pounds.
Speaker 4 (01:08:07):
He could run.
Speaker 3 (01:08:08):
You gotta have guys who can run to understand defense,
break on the quarterback, make plays, intercept the ball. Kobe
Bryant is a playmaker. May he's a Jim Thorpe Award winner.
Get his butt on the field.
Speaker 5 (01:08:22):
How's that icy?
Speaker 3 (01:08:23):
And I'm not even saying he's one of our top
four defensive backs, but I think he's our fifth.
Speaker 2 (01:08:30):
It's all about matchups, right, It's a matchup. That's what
the NFL is. It's matchups.
Speaker 4 (01:08:34):
I need playmakers.
Speaker 5 (01:08:37):
Hey boy, I'm feeling you right now.
Speaker 4 (01:08:39):
I know I'm feeling sorry. I'm getting emotional like Christmas time.
Speaker 2 (01:08:43):
I like you and I agree with you.
Speaker 5 (01:08:45):
You have to be able to match show.
Speaker 2 (01:08:47):
You have to look at your players and say what
is he best, what does he best.
Speaker 5 (01:08:50):
At, what does he struggle with?
Speaker 2 (01:08:52):
And there are a couple guys in a secondary that's
struggling those matchups. What the forty nine ers did is
they packed you in the the e motion guys out
to say, yep, we're gonna get this guy.
Speaker 5 (01:09:02):
On a linebacker.
Speaker 2 (01:09:03):
We're gonna be able to exploit this matchup. I'm with you.
Kobe Bryant, the guy who forced four fumbles last year,
a guy who won the Jim Thorpe Award, a guy
who's on the opposite side of Sauce Garner.
Speaker 5 (01:09:13):
You know he can play.
Speaker 2 (01:09:15):
Give him an opportunity because what's been going down in
the last four weeks has not been working. So I'm
all about him. Man, get this guy an opportunity. Let
him get after him.
Speaker 4 (01:09:25):
Okay, we agree again, we like three for three. All right.
Speaker 3 (01:09:28):
Here's here's when that's relevant. So we had the fifth
pick in the draft last year. Everybody thought Jalen Carter
was gonna be the number one pick. He fell some
of it, you know, with some issues that he had
off the football field, whatever it was why he dropped.
We take Devin Witherspoon a bit of a surprise. And
there's two guys right now really defensive player or rookie
(01:09:50):
of the year right now, they're being talked about once
Jalen Carter. The other one is obviously Devin Witherspoon, And
to me, Devin Witherspoon deserves defensive Rookie of the Year
over Jalen Carter. Jalen's played well just to get He's
got four shots. He scored a touchdown last week, picking
up a fumble at one point after like the fourth
(01:10:12):
or fifth game of the year. I think he had
more quarterback hits than anybody in the league, even though
I think that was a pro football focusing where he
had eleven in one game. I didn't see it when
I watched the film, but whatever. But he plays fifty
four percent of the snaps.
Speaker 2 (01:10:27):
Jalen Carter is not the best player on his defense.
He might not even be top three or four. Devin
Witherspoon is arguably the best defender on the Seattle Seahawks defense.
He has a bunch of passes defended, the pick six,
he can get after the quarterback. He's good in coverage.
He has close to seventy tackles, which you pointed out earlier.
(01:10:48):
I'm good with Devin Witherspoon. He deserves it.
Speaker 4 (01:10:51):
You know, that was a really good point he just
made there.
Speaker 5 (01:10:53):
I mean, I make a lot of the ball.
Speaker 4 (01:10:55):
No, I know you did.
Speaker 3 (01:10:56):
I gotta listen more. No, I mean it's Devin the
best player we have on defense.
Speaker 5 (01:11:02):
I think he is right now.
Speaker 3 (01:11:04):
Yeah, I can't think of someone better. Yeah, he slowed down,
you know, watching him on that first play try to run.
I guess something's not right with him. Again. I don't
know if he's just it's not that maybe he's injured,
but he looks nicked up a little bit, you know.
Speaker 4 (01:11:21):
I mean I could throw read in there.
Speaker 3 (01:11:23):
I think, you know, Leonard Woods starting to play pretty
well for us also when Brooks is healthy, that that
part's there. But yeah, I mean he's certainly top three
and might be the best on our defense. So that
sold me for sure on defensive Rookie of the year.
That better happened.
Speaker 2 (01:11:41):
I think this is one of maybe four times we've
gone three for three, agreed on this four for four,
So it's a four for four, so it's not even
talk that trust is just agreed and get along we've
been married for a while, but it's been we just
agree been a while, all right. When we return, you
know what we'll put a Is this the last segment?
Speaker 5 (01:12:00):
It is, we'll put a bowl in this thing.
Speaker 2 (01:12:01):
We'll talk about our next week's opponent that is next
right here on Hawk's Line.
Speaker 1 (01:12:09):
Hawkss Live appreciated by the dining district at the Bellevue
Collection at Bellevue Square Center Court, live on air on
Seattle Sports.
Speaker 2 (01:12:19):
Welcome back to ox Like Oh, Michael Bumpus with Paul Moyer,
our on site engineer was yelling at me.
Speaker 5 (01:12:27):
She says, we're back. I don't like being yelled at.
Speaker 2 (01:12:29):
Okay, I got high school trauma salts or at Cuver
City High School yelling at me because I gave up
a touchdown against losing her high school when I was
a free safety. You know what never happened again? A
touchdown behind me. You ain't gonna run by.
Speaker 3 (01:12:43):
Me because they put you at wide receiver. No oh,
they played you both waves.
Speaker 2 (01:12:48):
And both ways. Man, it was back in the day.
Speaker 3 (01:12:50):
You know, I want a state championship in or CIF
Southern Section championship.
Speaker 4 (01:12:56):
My junior year, we didn't go both ways. Hundred kids.
Speaker 5 (01:13:00):
See, we didn't have one hundred, We had like fifty.
Speaker 3 (01:13:02):
Yeah, that'll that'll do it. Yeah yeah, I mean numbers,
numbers matter. I wanted to play both We had guys
who could play both ways.
Speaker 4 (01:13:08):
Our coach was adamant. Now I'm not playing both ways.
I'm like, we might have won second one or a
third one if.
Speaker 3 (01:13:15):
We had a but he just he coached it really
like a college team, which is pretty impressible.
Speaker 2 (01:13:20):
Well, you got numbers, you can do that over there
in the o c Oh yeah, all right, man, let's
talk about I mean we already we've been talking about
these guys, right, yeah, and da no good, we've been
talking about these guys.
Speaker 4 (01:13:32):
Oh lordy, even our crowd knows.
Speaker 2 (01:13:38):
We've been talking about these guys. And the Philadelphia Eagles
will present an opportunity to break the trend of losing games.
And you have to be fundamentally sound. You got a
rally to the football. You know, what's the phrase we
were using last year when it came to describing the
forty nine ers is that they were hunters. Right, They're
(01:14:00):
out there hunting that defense.
Speaker 3 (01:14:03):
You have to hunt, you do, Yeah, they're This team's
not as I think they're they're front four defensively, Uh,
will be a challenge, particularly their tackles.
Speaker 4 (01:14:16):
They're strong, they're bull rushers.
Speaker 3 (01:14:18):
We got to hold the line there and let our
quarterbacks step up in the pocket.
Speaker 4 (01:14:23):
But you know, and they got skilled.
Speaker 3 (01:14:25):
They're just not playing that well right now, you know,
I mean you look at them statistically, they're twenty eighth
on defense.
Speaker 4 (01:14:29):
They got less sacks, less interceptions than we do.
Speaker 3 (01:14:32):
And they're they're skilled, and so it's a head scratcher
for Philadelphia fans to what's going on with them right now.
Speaker 4 (01:14:38):
The difference is, you know, they they got ten wins.
Speaker 3 (01:14:41):
Yep, ten ten. I mean you know, they got ten wins.
We got six. Uh that's that's a big difference. But
we match up well at home. Uh, we're gonna have
to play physical. But man, I mean we've we've gone
through a gauntlet. This Monday is the beginning of the playoffs,
and we'll find out really quick, really quick, if we're
(01:15:02):
a true playoff contending team, because we got to put
these guys away and probably by double digits to where
you feel good about it, because let me tell you what,
while this is a playoff game, the next three game
playoff games are not going to be easy. I mean Tennessee, right,
I mean you just saw what they did. You know
it was a great, great comeback. I mean I feel
confident in that. But I'll be tough.
Speaker 4 (01:15:23):
I mean the Steelers, I mean coming here, they will,
they'll pack the place up.
Speaker 3 (01:15:28):
I mean they travel exceptionally well, so that will be
you know, it'll be noisy period, but tough game.
Speaker 4 (01:15:35):
Defensively, even though they're really struggling.
Speaker 3 (01:15:37):
And then you know, you got a divisional game to
end with Arizona and they're starting to play a little
bit better.
Speaker 4 (01:15:42):
So none of them are easy.
Speaker 3 (01:15:43):
Monday is to me, the defining moment. Have we figured
this thing out offensively and defensively? We've been playing pretty
well special teams all year long. We've been up and
down offensively and defensively. It's time to get it right.
Let's get it right, man.
Speaker 4 (01:16:01):
Monday's the time.
Speaker 2 (01:16:02):
I'm with you. I feel better about this. If Gino
Smith plays, Yeah, Now, I think Drew lock still gives
you an opportunity to win. Physically, he can get it done.
It's can you do it for sixty five seventy plays? Right?
That's that's about how many plays that you're gonna get?
But I feel better if Gino gets the start.
Speaker 3 (01:16:22):
Now Gino gets I got a ninety Gino.
Speaker 4 (01:16:28):
Yeah, he's got a groan.
Speaker 5 (01:16:29):
I'm taking them.
Speaker 4 (01:16:30):
Coins are difficult, right, I'll take.
Speaker 2 (01:16:34):
Them ninety percent. I'll take him, Yeah, definitely, I'll take him.
But here's the thing. If you get Gino, he gets
the start and something happens and he doesn't feel right
and Drew Lock comes in, I feel okay, good, it's
okay about the situation. I will also feel better if
ken Walker looks good too.
Speaker 5 (01:16:50):
He was healthy last year. Excuse me.
Speaker 2 (01:16:52):
Last week made a big run after the catch, but
he pulled up a little bit. I don't know exactly
what went on, but he's been practicing this week, says
he looks good.
Speaker 5 (01:17:00):
Zach Charbonay looks good as well.
Speaker 4 (01:17:02):
I would like to get him more touches.
Speaker 3 (01:17:04):
I mean they did you know the screen of the
week before he had the other big run?
Speaker 4 (01:17:10):
Where was that? That was the one where.
Speaker 3 (01:17:14):
Young hit Boa, Young hit Bosa We had on earlier, So.
Speaker 2 (01:17:19):
Yeah, Sharbonnet had a great run too. Man, it was
a pinning pool. You had green Law in the A
gap or B gap makes a move boom, and he
keeps me optimistic too, because I see the way that
he's progressed over the last few weeks and I go, okay, now, uh,
there was a game or two where Zach Sharboney was
getting the bulk with the carries, and you know you
had to kind of ease them into it. But if
(01:17:41):
you got both these guys healthy, I think they both
shown that they're capable of mixing it up because you
got Ken Walker, who is the the big play Barry
Sanders type of runner. Right, I'm gonna make guys. Miss
I'm gonna go east west and then I'll get north
south to where Zach Charbona is more downhill. And I
like that mix up two different kind of backs. I'm
still waiting to see Kenny mack can Tosh still went
to see what he brings to the table. But I
(01:18:03):
look at the run game and I go, you could
be okay if you rush for one hundred yards.
Speaker 5 (01:18:08):
The Seahawks are five in Oh.
Speaker 3 (01:18:10):
Let's run the ball. Let me ask you a question. A. J. Brown,
is he's a problem? Do we match up versus him? N?
Speaker 2 (01:18:19):
I think you got good enough corners to it. Wherever
he wants to be you let him be.
Speaker 4 (01:18:24):
No, should we match up? Fine?
Speaker 5 (01:18:25):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:18:26):
Yeah, oh yeah, we I thought I thought you meant
like follow him.
Speaker 4 (01:18:29):
No, I mean he's just he's tough.
Speaker 2 (01:18:31):
I mean he's a Statistically he's the second best receiver
in the league right now.
Speaker 3 (01:18:34):
No, I mean he's he's yeah, he's strong. He's a
big guy. I mean he's he's problem.
Speaker 2 (01:18:40):
Like, who matches up perfectly against that guy. There's no
perfect match up unless you got like a six to
two corner who's flexible and who can run.
Speaker 5 (01:18:48):
Well, he's still learning.
Speaker 4 (01:18:49):
He is six foot, you know, and he's slight.
Speaker 3 (01:18:53):
He's slight, okay, five to eleven, but he but he
plays bigger than that.
Speaker 2 (01:18:57):
He does.
Speaker 3 (01:18:58):
Uh, you know, we need to get pressure on the
quarterback and you know we'll need to do some help
at times over the top. I mean, look to me,
you go into this game, you go, I'm gonna do
two things.
Speaker 4 (01:19:08):
I'm gonna take away a j Brown for sure, yep.
Speaker 3 (01:19:12):
And I am not letting Jalen Hurts beat me with
his legs.
Speaker 2 (01:19:16):
Nope, twelve touchdowns on the ground.
Speaker 5 (01:19:18):
Cannot do it for Jalen Hurts.
Speaker 4 (01:19:19):
You gotta take away their strength.
Speaker 2 (01:19:20):
All right, hey, last one, damn Merry Christmas.
Speaker 4 (01:19:24):
Tall you by the way, Happy New Year, Thank you
for coming.
Speaker 2 (01:19:27):
Out of the man, last one. You missed your raffle.
You know what, but something tells me the universe is
gonna work for you and you're gonna get yours eventually.
