Speaker 1 (00:05):
The NFL never sleeps. The roster is ever evolving, and
it's all about finding the edge. This is the last word.
The off season Hall of the Indianapolis Colts. Now here's
Jeffrey Gorman and Matt Taylor.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
He can do a lot now, I mean, he could
play multiple spots. You know, he's got the quarterback background,
so he could play in the backfield. He's a great
fifty to fifty ball catcher. And you know after the
catch he's hit, he's violent after the catch. I mean
he he brings an element of toughness that I thought,
you know, we needed to add offensively.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Behind a tight end block and here he goes Tyler Warren.
It's gonna take it to the end zone, touchdown, Penn State.
Nobody touched him.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
Yeah, I think that.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
You know, it's important kind of in general as a
football player to be able to be on the field
as much as you can help the team out less
you can. Then as a tight end, you know, it
helps you kind of the whole offense being able to
block again, be a threatened, the passing game opens up,
you know, everybody else in the offense and kind of just.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Just scheme in general.

Speaker 4 (01:09):
So I think that is a lot of you know,
really important for a tight end to be able to
be on the field for all three downs.

Speaker 5 (01:15):
Welcome into the last word. You just heard from Tyler Warren,
the fourteenth overall pick of the Colts and yesterday's NFL Draft.
I'm Jeffrey Gorman, coming to you from inside the Indiana
Union Construction Industry Radio studio every Friday evening here on
ninety three five and one oh seven to five the
fan Matt Taylor, voice of the Colts week in and
week out. Mate, What a couple of days for sport

(01:38):
here in Indianapolis. What a couple of days? Bart is good, Yes, sir,
How about Tyler Warren? Start there, mate, I know this
place is guiney today. People are doing backflips. The big
fella is in the building, Yes he is.

Speaker 6 (01:50):
Last night, Jeffrey, it was awesome to see that unfold
in real time. Awesome in the sense that the Colts
drafted one of the best players in the draft at
a major area of need that they needed to address,
and they did it organically right. They stayed true to
their board, they didn't reach they didn't have to trade up.
There was some players there that I'm sure went before

(02:11):
the Colts that they had rated pretty high on their board.
You know, Membo went before the Colts. Maybe Kenneth Grant
was high on the Colts board, but so was Tyler Warren. Now, right,
So the Bears at ten they take Colston Lovelin, making
him the first tight end off the board. Not many
people had that a couple months ago over Tyler Warren.
But after that, I think you just felt pretty good

(02:31):
about Warren being a real possibility being there still for
the Colts at fourteen, and the Colts pro scouts did
not believe any of the next three teams in front
of the Colts were going to take a tight end
after Colston Lovelan was drafted, so the Colts felt confident
that they could stay patient get Warren without having to
trade up. The Colts did a really good job. I

(02:51):
just thought it was a home run night in terms
of the player that they picked and the process that
unfolded to get that guy in here.

Speaker 5 (02:58):
We're also going to be hearing from the number one
over pick, Tyler Warren coming up in just a little bit.
Gonna preview those rounds two and three which are coming
up in just a couple of hours from now, may Te,
I'll tell you what, what's the book on Warren? When
you're talking about this guy, he was always tight end
number one. You know, he's a John mcke award winner.
But what makes this guy special? And we saw a
ton of catches last year. Let's not forget that's over

(03:19):
one hundred catches for that tight end.

Speaker 6 (03:21):
That the top Colts tight end last year in terms
of catches was fourteen. Tyler Warren had one hundred and four.
But no, I mean that the Colts have been talking
all off season about how they wanted to address this
tight end position, somebody that can play all three downs
Chris ballor Chane Stike and said, we've got to have
somebody that can stress the middle of the field, somebody
that's great in the running game. Essentially a replacement here

(03:44):
for Jack Doyle, who they have struggled to replicate in
the last couple of years. Well, Warren fits that entire criteria.
Tyler Warren's middle name should be versatility. Last season at
Penn State, they lined them up at tight end, they
lined them up in the slot and at full back,
even took snaps to wildcat quarterback. He was a quarterback
in high school. He's sure handed, he's good at finding gaps.

(04:07):
He racked up fifty six percent of his receiving yards
last year on Yak Jeffrey yards after the catch. So
to me, when I watch him, he's like a throwback player.
He's like a guy that thrived in the fifties and sixties.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Right.

Speaker 6 (04:20):
You know, his dad stressed to you know when he
was eight years old. Hey, you got to play the game.
You gotta have this running style like John Riggins. That's
kind of where his toughness comes from. So long story short,
he's gonna stress the middle of the field. He's gonna
block his tail off in the running game. And when
he's in the game, defenses, most importantly are not going
to know what the Colts are going to do run

(04:40):
versus pass.

Speaker 5 (04:41):
Absolutely, and you know what. Last night on the Instant
Reaction podcast, coach Rick Van Turrey weighed in on how
Warren's presence in this Colts offense impacts the Colts quarterback
competition between Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones.

Speaker 7 (04:53):
I mean it's kind of a two part deal here.
If Daniel Jones is the quarterback, if Daniels the quarterback
guy will catch a million balls. Okay, because Daniel is
a classic move the ball with intermediate passing. He is
a really quick release, throw the ball in the creases,

(05:13):
get it to your underneath people. This is the part
of AR five's game that must come on. AR five
is a great runner and he throws a really good
deep ball. He's accurate with it, throw it off platform.
What he lacks is the mid range game. And this
is what we're gonna get out of Warren. And so really,

(05:35):
when you ask that question, if AR five continues to
be the quarterback, it's gonna be all about him taking
that next step and finding that mid range game.

Speaker 5 (05:44):
Be sure to check out that entire Instant Reaction podcast
with Rick, Casey Valier and Bill Brooks. It's riding up
right now on Colts dot com YouTube and wherever you
download your podcast. May Tek. What do you think about
what coach vent Turry said? He said, Hey, Daniel Jones
is at the helm. This kid's going for a million,
and if it's Anthony Richardson, the game's a little bit different.

Speaker 6 (06:02):
Well, I don't know, it could be different. I mean
I agree with Rick in the sense that Tyler Warren
being here now is going to be a big part
of this passing game in the middle of the field.
Easier completions should be there within this offense now that
Tyler Warren is here. And who's better at that at
this point in their career quarterback wise, it's Daniel Jones, right.

(06:23):
He has shown NFL level accuracy with high completion percentage throws.
He completes the easier completions, if you will, more so
than Anthony Richardson. That's where he has struggled so far.
But he's been working on those types of throws with
his footwork and his mechanics this offseason. So both players

(06:43):
I think can utilize Tyler Warren within this offense. But
the player that can best incorporate Warren within the offense
is going to have a huge leg up on winning
the quarterback battle because Tyler Warren has to be one
of the focal points of this pass game.

Speaker 5 (07:00):
And look, no matter who's playing quarterback for the Colts,
once they find that sort of security blanket in the
middle of the field where he's building the cabin week
in and week out and sitting there, yeah, boil boy,
good things happen at the quarterback position. That rookie update
on Tyler Warren was presented by our friends at MJ
Companies Your Future in Focus, may Te, we got rounds
two and three coming up. I want to go over

(07:20):
some of that stuff because we're not done right now.
We're gonna hear from Tyler Warren and what he has
to say, but we're also gonna be talking a little
bit about the second and third rounds. Folks, don't forget
about this. We got the Colt mascot blue. He's got
a million dollar schedule challenge presented by Academy Sports and Outdoors,
where one contestant can win a million bucks by correctly
predicting the Colts entire eighteen week schedule for the twenty

(07:43):
twenty five regular season to enter head the Colts dot
com slash win. Hey, Mayte, when is that NFL schedule
coming out? We heard some news last night.

Speaker 6 (07:52):
Yeah, I think May fourteen coming up in a couple
of weeks. The NFL did announce that last night. So
the full eight team game schedule for the Colts, the who,
the what, the win, and the where May fourteenth.

Speaker 5 (08:04):
That's right, and that includes Tyler Warren going to Berlin,
Germany with the rest of his Colts teammates. We're gonna
find out when that is. We're gonna hear from the
first round draft pick, Tyler Warren coming up in a
little bit. I'm telling you what. That Berlin game in Germany,
it's gonna be fun, folks. You can go there if
you want unlock early access to official Colts Germany ticket
and travel packages. Visit on location exp dot com slash

(08:25):
Colt Germany for more information. Let's hear from the first
round draft choice when we come back. This is the
last Word. Ninety three five, one oh seven five A fan.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
The ability to really threaten the middle of the field.
I think it's gonna open some things up for us
offensive would and plus.

Speaker 6 (08:41):
Being a really big target.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
I mean, I think that's a plus. It's kind of
one of those guys that's always open. That's a unique.
That's part of his uniqueness. Like his hands are pretty rare.
I thought he had the best hands of any player
in the draft, So he's a unique dude.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
This is your weekly fix on Colts football, The Last
Word with Jeffrey Gorman Matt Taylor from the Indiana Union
Construction Industry Radio Studio.

Speaker 5 (09:04):
Matt Taylor. We just heard from Press Ballard the Colts
GM and he uses the word unique. Now, this is
a freak athlete. When you talk about Tyler Warren, this
is the best baseball player when he was playing baseball
that was on the field. He was the best basketball player.
Oh and he was not playing basketball. He was the
best football player playing football. He has six six two
fifty plus. This is a rare, rare bird. Matt loaded

(09:27):
with athleticism.

Speaker 6 (09:28):
He sure is. I mean, played quarterback that's been well chronicled.
Played quarterback in high school. Three sport athlete. One of
the funny stories that stands out to me. And digging
more on Tyler Warren coming out of high school, he
wasn't all that heavily recruited to play football. You had
a scholarship to go to Virginia Tech. But the story

(09:50):
goes put together a you know what the kids call
these days, Jeffrey the sizzle, real highlight tape of him
dunking in basketball violently by the way and showing off
his freak athleticism and footwork and like you said, his
dynamic ability to attack the basket and that sort of
went viral and it caught on and as soon as

(10:11):
that made its ways around YouTube and other social media platforms,
you know, four or five years ago, then his football
recruitment really took off and the scholarships came pouring in,
and that's how we ended up in Penn State. So
took it upon himself to sort of market himself playing
basketball and that led to a tight end scholarship in football.

Speaker 5 (10:30):
Well, it worked out. His athleticism is through the roof.
You want to have fun, go down that rabbit hole
on YouTube Tyler Warren playing basketball. Anyway, here's a big
fella on why he stayed at Penn State for all
four years.

Speaker 4 (10:41):
Oh, I mean, that's where I wanted to be. I was,
you know, I consider myself a Penn Stater. And besides
what the school stands for in the tradition we have,
just the people that were there is where I wanted
to be ultimately, and that's kind of where I made
my commitment to him. I wanted to stay, you know,
for my college career. However, however long that was.

Speaker 5 (10:57):
I tell you what, I'm glad that he didn't. They
didn't shift into the office of line with those hands
and those feet, you know what I'm saying if they're
looking for a position from the guy a quarterback there
that they're like, hey, we're not going to play this
big bill at QB. Where can we put him? Great
job on the tight end position. I think that's why
he likes playing that position too, because he still has
a sense of control when it comes to offense.

Speaker 6 (11:15):
No question about it. And they asked a lot of
him and he performed last year. But I think it's
a fascinating story about just persistence, fighting through adversity and
nothing's going to be handed to you, and just don't
run away from a challenge. We live in the era
Jeffrey of Nil and the transfer portal, and if I'm
not going to play right away, I'm just going to

(11:37):
bail and go to the next opportunity. I mean crazy,
I mean, heading into his final season at Penn State,
he only had forty nine catches in his first thirty
eight games, and then he comes back this year and
he more than triples that one hundred and four catches.

Speaker 5 (11:54):
The year before.

Speaker 6 (11:54):
I mean, I never even heard of this guy prior
to like week two, Week three of the college football season.
I came in I forget what week it was, but
you remember the week I came in and I turned
on the USC Penn State game.

Speaker 5 (12:06):
What a game? What I mean?

Speaker 6 (12:07):
That was the game where he just went off right,
seventeen catches over two hundred yards receiving.

Speaker 5 (12:12):
Snapped the ball on one play, and caught the touchdown
pass at the end of it.

Speaker 6 (12:15):
I mean, but I mean I was in my hotel room.
I think it was in Nashville. We were getting ready
to play the Titans the day after, and I just
had college football on and I'm thinking to myself, like,
this guy's the entire Penn State offense. I mean, they
line them up in the backfield at tight end. That
was the game where he lined up at center and
they had the double pass. Then he goes out for
a pass, touchdown, catch over, like three guys high points

(12:36):
the ball in the end zone. I remember coming in
the next Monday and showing you guys the remake. Did
you guys see the Penn State game? You got No,
we didn't see it.

Speaker 5 (12:43):
Like you gotta watch this play.

Speaker 6 (12:45):
Who is this guy? And now he's a cult. I mean,
it's unbelievable to.

Speaker 5 (12:48):
Go from one year to the next, Like you said,
thirty four receptions to one hundred and four, a record
setting career for Tyler Warren. Here's Tyler Warren. I enjoying
playing tight end because of the demand of the position.

Speaker 4 (12:59):
I think it goes into playing time, and it's one
of the only positions where you have, you know, kind
of two different things that you really do that are
complete opposite, right where's blocking and then pass catching. But
I feel like that's the fun part about playing it,
So you get to do a lot of different things
within an offense, and then you know, as you get
you prove you can do certain things, you start moving
around doing other things. So that's why I really like
about it, and I'm glad you know, this is the

(13:20):
position that I've been playing, you know, since I got
to college.

Speaker 5 (13:22):
Maddie. I know it's a guess out of you right
now because you don't know the Colts playbook in front
of you. But do you see him lining up in
the backfield at times as an h back and and
what does that look like in this Colts offense.

Speaker 6 (13:33):
Yeah, he's going to be asked to do a lot.
I don't know if it's going to be to the
degree that he was versatile at Penn State, but It's
going to be really fascinating to see how creative the
Colts can get with him and what Shane Stike and
sort of has cooked up, you know, that mad scientist,
you know, get just get your hands on this guy
and see all that he can do. But you're asked
to do a lot as a tight end. It's one

(13:54):
of the hardest positions in football to play because of
how versatile you have to be and how much of
the play book you have.

Speaker 5 (14:00):
The master basically play offensive line a little bit and
then go ahead and play receiver.

Speaker 6 (14:04):
Now you're a receiver too, right, lining up in the backfield,
lining up out wide, the double passes at Penn State,
the throat. There was one play against Purdue right where
he lined up in the backfield as a quarterback, threw
it out wide to either a receiver or a backup quarterback.
They throw it back to Warring, He's got a convoy
of blockers, scores a touchdown. It's gonna be just really

(14:26):
cool to see how much of that the Colts tap into.
I know for a fact that there's gonna be a
wrinkle with Warren either to lind up out wide or
in the wildcat and he's gonna throw the ball next year.

Speaker 5 (14:37):
I can guarantee you that. And by the way, he
is a southball, so watch that he is. Here's Tyler
Warren on how he deals with playing the tight end
position with so much on his plate.

Speaker 8 (14:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (14:46):
I think it kind of started just growing up as
something I kind of did, you know, in the Little
league and high school, playing a bunch of different positions,
And really it's just being open to it and not
making it harder than it is. It's all football at
the end of the day, and it's stuff I've done before.
So I don't see it as learning a bunch of
different stuff. I just see that's playing the game, and
you know, know my job from play to play. That
might look different, you know, in a different way, but

(15:06):
but it's really just doing my job when he's playing.

Speaker 5 (15:08):
I really do have questions on that sophomore and junior
year up at Penn State. What was the coaching staff thinking, Hey,
guys ready to run?

Speaker 6 (15:15):
They did have other guys in front of understood this freak.

Speaker 5 (15:18):
I mean, it's sitting there anyway. Colts fans, we have
a special special player in the fourteenth overall pick from
last night's NFL Draft. We want to thank Tyler Warren
for sitting down with the Colts media earlier this afternoon. Folks,

gonna discuss which positions the Colts could target coming up

(16:21):
tonight in rounds two and three. This is the last word.
Ninety three five one oh seven five to the fan, No.

Speaker 3 (16:28):
One, and it's gonna be a double pass. Tler loads Fires,
deed Man there is Warren got it touchdown, Penn State
Fires got Warren out of the run. Tyler Warren try
to collar and they do, but that till he gets
to the twenty yard line. Tyler Warren's gonna throw it
to them. Double pass coming up.

Speaker 5 (16:46):
Right back to Warren. Haven't seen this one before.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
Tyler Warren down the sideline and cut it first and goal.

Speaker 5 (16:55):
Can't get enough football. You are in the right place.

Speaker 1 (16:58):
This is the offseason radio home of the Indianapolis Colts.

Question of the Week.

Speaker 6 (17:23):
And by the way, good job on that highlight reel
on him, mate, I could listen to those highlights.

Speaker 5 (17:27):
I mean, seriously, great job because all the kid did
every time he touched the ball eighty eight percent of
the offense. I just made that up, but it's about accurate.
Right quarterback touches the ball. I don't know. Waren may
have touched the ball more than a PSU quarter But I.

Speaker 6 (17:40):
Give you some crazy Tyler warrens.

Speaker 5 (17:42):
Yes, please go.

Speaker 6 (17:43):
Tyler Warren averaged more yards per carry last year at
Penn State than Jonathan Taylor did in his final year
at Wisconsin. Wow. Warren was at eight point four jt
six point three.

Speaker 5 (17:57):
Wow.

Speaker 6 (17:57):
That's what I mean. His middle name is versatility. Get
them the ball, line them up in different spots, and
let them work.

Speaker 8 (18:03):
You just got You just got a guy who plays
every position offensive lead.

Speaker 5 (18:07):
Oh, this is gonna be fun.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
You know it's.

Speaker 8 (18:09):
Quarterback in high school. He played some quarterback at Penn State.
You know he can do it all. It's it's gonna
be excited to see what they do for Tyler Warren.

Speaker 5 (18:15):
That's the velvety voice of showcase Casey Value. We were
up late last night.

Speaker 8 (18:19):
I was up late last night. We were lickered up
or where you were working?

Speaker 6 (18:23):
Where was?

Speaker 1 (18:24):
Wow?

Speaker 5 (18:25):
Reed wasn't here?

Speaker 8 (18:26):
Read actually wats but no, Reed was not here.

Speaker 5 (18:32):
Did a great job. By the way, on Colts dot com,
it's take instant reaction after every Colts pick. You can
get the latest from coach Van Turrey, Casey Valier, Bill Brooks,
among others checking out on Colts dot Com. Time now
for the Forum Credit Union question of the week. Last
night in the NFL draft, Okay, we had Loveland and
Tyler Warren are the ninth and tenth tight ends since

(18:52):
two thousand drafted with a top fourteen pick. Since two thousand,
there's been only eight other tight ends that have been
picked with a top fourteen pick. I need eight names.
We got Tyler Warren's on that list, and as well
as Colston Loveland from last night.

Speaker 6 (19:07):
Go boys, Casey, Let's let's try to go in in
recent history here. So you got Brock Bowers, Yeah, y,
Kyle Pitts, Yeah, that was what twenty twenty two, twenty one? Yeah, okay,
the Lions took just it was yeah. I think Dockinson
it was a note was no offense he was no,
he was he was later he was not a first rounder.

Speaker 8 (19:27):
I think he was a first rounder, but I think
he was outside of fourteen.

Speaker 5 (19:30):
How about how about stay here for a tight end
touchdown machine.

Speaker 6 (19:33):
Not Jack Doyle, he was undrafted.

Speaker 5 (19:34):
How about Eric Youbron number ten overall? Yes, number ten
overall for Big Easy Bron.

Speaker 6 (19:40):
And this is probably where it gets fuzzy.

Speaker 5 (19:42):
Yeah, I don't know it is. There's been Jeremy Jeremy Shockey.
He's in here. And by the way, Tyler Warren Jeremy
Shocky want to come. Bubba Frank's number fourteen by Green
Bay in two thousand, Vernon Davis, number six by San
Francisco and O six and also Kellen Winslow number six
by Cleveland and four for him credit You You can
visit the section of Colts dot com interact with other

(20:03):
fans online, post a topic, participate in various discussions regarding
the Colts for Credit Union helping members live their financial dreams.
I want to go over it with YouTube both we
got second and we got third round yesterday. I loved
what we did when we had a what is our
perfect scenario for getting your position? Wise in the top
three picks? All of us had the tight end and
top three picks. Matt's starting with you, what do you

(20:23):
want to see? Go two? And three.

Speaker 6 (20:25):
Well, I think the Colts are probably almost certain at
some point in this draft to take a long look
at addressing both of their offense and defensive lines. Right
they lost two offensive lineman starters to free agency. The
defensive line, they have three key pieces headed for free
agency after this season, including the Forrest Buckner and Grover Stewart,
and then also Casey probably weak side linebacker at some

(20:48):
point in this draft after the loss of EJ. Speed
too in free agency.

Speaker 8 (20:52):
I would agree with that. I also wouldn't be shocked
to see safety. I don't know if we're going to
find that in rounds two or three. Wise, you just
don't have a lot of NFL experience in that secondary
depth at safety, you know, sticking with secondary, I wouldn't
be shocked to see a corner there you are today
or tomorrow. So it's one of those things where in
rounds two and three you're trying to get the most

(21:14):
at that premium position spot. So you talk about d line,
you talk about corner. Those are probably some areas that
you know, as you get a little bit further in
the draft, you know that talent level kind of goes
down a little bit. So I wouldn't be shocked to
see premium positions be taken here tonight.

Speaker 5 (21:30):
That showcase casey value. Voice of the Colts, Matt Taylor.
Appreciate you guys doing what you do getting us ready.
And a big thanks to Tyler Warren for saying, hello, boys,
I want to talk to you about this before we leave.
Huge game in Milwaukee, minutes away, minutes away. Damon Lillard
is not happy, guys. Okay, that's what I'm saying. Is
he ever? Hellaburton and going at it with everybody? What
do we got tonight? On the road? First playoff game

(21:51):
for the for the Pacers? What do we got?

Speaker 8 (21:53):
I mean, I'm a Pacer fan, so I'm not gonna
pick against them. Se Go sers, right, Maddie, gon be tough.
Game three, it's a must win game for the Bucks.

Speaker 1 (22:00):
It is.

Speaker 6 (22:01):

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
