Speaker 1 (00:16):
Welcome in.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
It is Jagg's am. Take me Shadwick with you, flying solo.
We have arrived in April, posing in on the NFL Draft, putting.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
It again to today. Let's get immediately to our big things.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Coming out of the NFL Annual meeting down in Palm
Beach this week. Plenty of coverage from there, including head
coach Liam Cohen with the media yesterday at the AFC
Coaches Breakfast, reflecting on the relationship with GM James Gladstone, James.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
And I weren't just like we weren't like homeless, you know,
like we worked together. He was leading always the undrafted
free agent process after the draft, and he spearheaded it.
Speaker 4 (00:57):
Like he talked.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
He was the guy communic to both the coaches and
the scouting department, right, that was what he did. He
was in charge of it and led in. I was like, man,
this dude's impressive, you know, like, this isn't easy to communicate.
Bullets and things are flying in that moment, and he's
able to keep his head so cool, communicate at a
high level. And then men go back in twenty two
and he's now doing that with the draft and he's
(01:21):
really hand in hand with less and working with Sean
and those guys in that process that I'm like, well, okay,
that happened quickly, and man, his just ability to communicate
with all walks of life is really cool and his
organizational skills have helped me out to mendously.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Of course, Cohen and Gladstone go back to their days
at the La Rams and we'll hear Gladstone's part of
this coming up. He sat down with John Ozer, Jaguars
senior writer yesterday at the annual meeting. We'll hear that
conversation coming up in just a few minutes. And we're
one week away from the off season program. The veterans
(01:57):
can show up next week April seventh. Officially they can start.
The Jaguars start April eighth. Then Cohen was asked yesterday
what can they expect when they walk in the building?
Speaker 4 (02:09):
Energy?
Speaker 3 (02:09):
You know, that's the first thing when we're really trying
to place is just feel guys like, this.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
Is good stuff.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
It's great to be back. We're doing football. Guys, how
many of us get to do this. We get an
opportunity to do this every single day. There's so many
that don't, and so how are we going to approach
this thing. I think they'll walk into that kind of
feeling and you know, we'll meet. We'll just do meetings
obviously throughout phase one, introducing our systems, while we at
(02:34):
the same time start to introduce our culture, the way
that we're going to be, the way we're going to
talk to each other, the way that we're going to
communicate with each other, how we're going to treat one another.
That'll go hand in hand with the systems.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Yeah, systems, the culture, and yes, strength and conditioning allowed
only on the field for a very short amount of
time with strength and conditioning coaches in phase one of
the off season program coming up, starting next week.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
Coming up, when we return, we'll hear.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
From GM James Gladstone sitting down with John Ozer down
in Palm Beach yesterday.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
This is Jaggs Am.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
The twenty twenty five season is right around the corner,
and the time to get those twenty twenty five season
ticket memberships is right now. Be at the bank for
every touchdown, secure your seats at Jaguars dot com, slash tickets.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
Or call nine oh four six three three two thousand.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
Welcome back. It's Jaggs am. We have arrived at April first.
JP Shadrick with you on a busy few days down
at the NFL Annual Meeting in Palm Beach. John Oser
down there reporting and you'll see some of his writing
coming up this week on Jaguars dot com. Liam Cohen
met with the media yesterday and yeah, early yesterday in
(03:53):
the AFC Coaches Breakfast, we'll hear more from the Jaguars
head coach coming up. But also sitting down with Osher,
James Gladstone, the Jaguars general manager, start a free agency
is in the rear view. We're closing in on three
weeks to his first NFL draft as a general manager.
And the conversation from Palm Beach.
Speaker 5 (04:14):
I'm John Oser here at the Annual Meetings with Jaguars
General manager James Gladsnett. Big impression of your first month
on the job.
Speaker 6 (04:21):
Yeah, you know, I think a couple things jump out right.
The off season got off to a fast start, and
really our fan base, their support has really been something
that's inspired our group. At the same time, I think
the energy around what the future holds has really been
something that's been captivating. And you know, in addition to that,
the alignment across the organization, from ownership to operations to
(04:46):
coaching and scouting. There's a shared vision for what lies
on the horizon. And in addition to that, the clarity
that comes with what it is that we're hunting up.
And I think that only points to a healthier dose
and efficiency and effectiveness of the decisions that lie ahead,
especially as we start looking towards the draft.
Speaker 5 (05:05):
Head coach Liam Cohen talked this morning and said, you
guys have basically spent every week and minute together since
you got the job. What is that synchronicity, what is
that relationship bal like so far?
Speaker 6 (05:15):
You know, working with Liam, he has such a fresh
perspective and you know, his ability to connect with people
and players in particular, it really stands out as well
as his you know, ability to adapt scheme to player
skill sets. It's something that I really respect. It's something
that I think is going to give us a real
notable edge here into the future. And you know, beyond Liam,
working with Tony BISSELLI the three of us really being
(05:38):
able to challenge each other in the right ways. And
you know, Tony brings such a fresh perspective as well,
and a unique perspective right through the lens of somebody
who's seen the organization at the highest points, really advantage
point that is integral to our operation and our process
to date, and really looking forward to see some of
(05:59):
the conversations that we've been having so far come to
life with real decisions here soon.
Speaker 5 (06:03):
Got you You had such a quick lead up to
free agency, a little more time for the draft. Tell
me about how that has worked in terms of you
had scouted, you had familiar with players, and now you're
coming into an organization where they've already scouted a little bit.
How does that all come together if you follow me
in terms of how you see guys.
Speaker 6 (06:21):
Yeah, you know our approach to free agency and the draft,
you know, they're uniquely intentional. And I think with free agency,
our goal was to elevate the floor of the roster,
and I think we struck a real positive balance between
prioritizing players and people right the type who by inviting
them into our ecosystem being nothing more than who they are,
(06:43):
elevate those around them, elevate our culture. And I think
as we turned towards the draft, it's going to be
really fun to start addressing the ceiling.
Speaker 5 (06:52):
Now, fans write to me all the time wanting to
know exactly what you mean when you say in tantris
A lot of debate about it, and how do you
define that because you like to talk about it a lot.
Speaker 6 (07:04):
Yeah, I think it's great to be intangibly curious, as
our fan base might be labeled at this point, but
intangibly rich. I think we can all get to a
place that even in our own minds, it means somewhat
of the same thing when we're looking at on field.
In tangibles, it's things like competitiveness, toughness, and even instincts
and nuances of each skill that is offered up at
(07:28):
each position. Off the field, you're looking about you know,
how much passion does somebody have for the game itself
as well as what are they like as a team
might and a person off the field, And so those
are things that we gauge and really lean into as
a part of our decision making process. It's really where
we start at each point of player acquisition. But you know,
(07:49):
we got to remain agile at the same time and
be open to you know, a number of options. But
at the end of the day, yes, it's rooted in intangibles,
and that's something that we'll keep our north star as
we round out this first offseason.
Speaker 5 (08:03):
I got your final question. It's always tough to ask
about the draft because nobody says anything about the draft,
But how do you like this draft? And how close
are you to being ready for the draft?
Speaker 6 (08:13):
You know, there's still a lot of work to be done.
You know, we're just about a month away from draft
day decisions, and we've had the chance to meet with
our coaching staff that discuss the initial wave of prospects,
and they're working through the next batch and I think
we'll see a lot of clarity here with the next
chance that we have to sit down with them and
really shape the you know, top one hundred of the
(08:35):
draft class. And then we'll see how Day three ends
up unfolding in real time, knowing that there's a lot
of unpredictability to that stage of the draft for sure.
Speaker 5 (08:44):
Fantastic James Gladstone, Thank you very much.
Speaker 6 (08:46):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
James Gladstone with John Oser down at the NFL Annual
meeting at the Breakers in Palm Beach, and you can
see that conversation archived on Jaguars dot Com and Jags YouTube.
We're back in a moment and we'll hear from the
head coach again, Liam Cohen, so highlights from the AFC
Coaches Breakfast yesterday and a little later some rule changes
(09:08):
past this morning by league owners. This is jags Am.
So I'm look inside Everbanks Stadium as the off season
is about to begin a week from now.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
And move the freight.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
Move the freight, Magell and transport vo to the coolest
office space in Jacksonville. Play online at Magellanlogistics dot com.
We'll be moving freight into that stadium coming up very soon,
just a few months from now.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
Welcome back. It's Jags Am JP Shadwick with you. Everybody
else out this week, that's okay. We'll be back with
you next week.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
As the off season program begins starting next Tuesday here
at the Miller Electric Center and Strength and Conditioning, we'll
get underway, and that means that football things will begin
happening very very quickly and often around here in the
off season with the off season program and then three
weeks away a little over three weeks to the NFL Draft,
(10:09):
and then Ota is just a little bit down the road,
and we're here. We are on the doorstep at least
of the off season program in twenty twenty five, and
so is head coach Liam Cohen, who visited with the
media at the AFC Coaches Breakfast down at the Breakers
in Palm Beach yesterday and discussing it, asked.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
About a lot of things.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
Of course, the full conversation at Jaguars dot com and
Jaguars YouTube about thirty minutes worth, so a little too
much to run in this program. Will take some of
the highlights though, starting with the organization and the structure
of what they've done at the top, you're in Jacksonville.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
That's the beautiful way of how we structured this with myself,
James twenty viselli, I'm able to truly focus on the
staff like that's it, Like I keep the main thing,
the main thing.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
I'm a football coach.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
James lost personnel. Tony is able to help with so
much of the support staff and communication. So yeah, the
time is doubled. I haven't done a lot of ball,
but it's been really cool. I think with the players
coming in soon be able to do a little bit more.
But it's a normal day right now. Starts with about
you know six am that they have a schedule for
(11:18):
me every day and then I go in with James
for the rest of the day. So that's where we've
been at right now.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
Now let's reference the scene that they're in here and
a tent outside of the breakers, and each head coach
has a table and it's a roundtable discussion. You can
bounce from table to table and talk to different head coaches,
so they're actually in the full conversation or a couple
of repeats things that are asked twice or three times.
It's the national media or another teams media's only chance
(11:43):
a lot of times to visit with a certain head coach.
So there are some bigger picture answers like the one.
We've heard this over and over again, but the organizational
structure here in Jacksonville is something that somebody out of
market might not have heard before. It's also one of
his first opportunity to explain the departure of Christian Kirk
and Evan Ingram. They were both cut due to cap
(12:06):
reasons and now the quest to replace two productive players
in this team.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
Yeah, always hard letting go of good football players. Man,
have a ton of respect for both of those guys.
You know, I'd done some really good things here that
those were not easy decisions, and ultimately I hate to
let go of good football players, but you know, production right,
those guys did have a good amount of targets, receptions,
you know, some critical plays in different moments of different years.
(12:37):
So there's some chemistry, some camaraderie there. I'm sure that
we have to, you know, continue to work on. But
I think you saw what BT and Trevor were able
to do last year, and then obviously with some of
the guys in Parker Washington had a great.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
Connection and you start to see some.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
Of these guys evolve, We're like, okay, you know, this
allows us to do some different things within our roster
structure and feel confident about where it's going him forward, and.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
We'll see what happens in the draft, of course, if
they add any other pieces at both of those positions
coming up in about three weeks time. A big question
is the relationship between the head coach and the quarterback,
Trevor Lawrence. Not a lot of football talk, in fact,
none allowed this time of year until the offseason program
officially begins, but they've had plenty of time together to
(13:23):
get to know each other really.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
Good conversations, you know, and not being able to work.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
With him quite yet.
Speaker 3 (13:29):
But man, we haven't went out to dinner a few times,
and I saw the vision talk to a guy that
I know right off the bat is physically and mentally tough.
I believe that about going and so that's how I'm
excited to work with him about it.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
He's open.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
He just wants to play at the highest level as
he can. He just he wants to accept as much
coaching and wants to be coached hard, and he wants
to do well. So those are the great conversations that
he's open, he wants to work, and he's been willing
to work.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
Really excited about.
Speaker 3 (13:59):
Those going forward.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
That's a good starting spot for those two.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
And yes, it will be a challenge moving ahead for
Trevor Lawrence. Third offense for him and now year five
in the National Football League, and everything will be built
around number sixteen moving ahead, and certainly he'll have some
input into how things are put together in the offensive
installation coming up in the next few weeks. And finally
(14:24):
in free agency at least the Jaguars added for offensive linemen,
so setting the tone for change up front of the
trenches on that side of the football, but a lot
of questions about the defensive line for Liam Cohen.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
I think ultimately you're looking to add some competition and
there we've got some really good players down there. I think,
you know, we've got three first rounders right on our
defensive line currently, so three guys that are going.
Speaker 1 (14:51):
To have some good years.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
Hopefully they're hoping, you know, elevate that room and we'll
continue to evaluate it. But yeah, absolutely you're looking to
add points, somebody for the dealerne however that thing plays
out inside.
Speaker 2 (15:03):
Or Heines Allen, Trayvon Walker, Eric Arms said the first rounders,
they do have some bodies on the interior, but obviously
most of the box recently have Mason Graham of Michigan
coming this way. Time will tell what happens there, But
the work is not done on the trenches. I don't
think on either side of the football. You can expect
(15:24):
a lot of focus on both of those lines coming
up with whatever is left in free agency, which it
never really ends, and the NFL Draft in.
Speaker 1 (15:31):
About three weeks time.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
The full conversation and availability with Liam Cohen, the Jaguars
head coach at Jaguars dot Com and Jaggs YouTube.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
We're back in a moment.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
Some rule changes passed by NFL owners this morning. We'll
give you the latest and look ahead of the offseason
program after this on jags Am.
Speaker 4 (16:00):
Taking that one.
Speaker 6 (16:01):
It's a pleasure true on season six, episode one.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
All right, let's go, dude.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
The hunt coming up this Thursday, seven pm. The debut
on Jaguars dot com, but also check it on Jaguars YouTube.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
And welcome back to Jaggs Am.
Speaker 5 (16:44):
J P.
Speaker 2 (16:45):
Shadwick with you and Jaguars Football is presented by Fresh
from Florida. It's always in season, of course, one week
until the off season program. The players will be in
the building on Tuesday officially to begin the strength and
conditioning part of the off season, and then of course, hey,
(17:07):
a couple of weeks of that, there is a mini
camp in there as well. They can have an additional
one voluntary mini camp with the new coaching staff. Then
Phase two begins a little more on field work, and
then Phase three of the OTAs as the off season progresses.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
But it all starts next week today.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
Down at the NFL Annual Meeting. The Owners meetings down
at Palm Beach and the breakers owners passing a few
different rules today, including a modified kickoff rule, so touchbacks
apparently now will come back to the.
Speaker 1 (17:39):
Thirty five yard line.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
No changes yet on on side kicks, according to Tom
Pelsero of NFL Media, that could come at a different
time in the off season. So that's one rule that
passed today. Another that got expanded was the replay assist
that was passed. It's got to be objective elements of rules.
(18:04):
There cannot be flags thrown from the expanded replay. There
can be flags taken away.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
From the expanded replay.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
They want all flags thrown on the field to be
thrown by the on field officials, not from the expanded replay,
the booth or New York So, as we said, no
flags will be thrown if something is missed, but if
a flag.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
Is thrown, it can be picked up with this.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
And then finally, both teams will now possess the ball
or have an opportunity to possess the ball in overtime
in the regular season, it was originally thought to be
fifteen minutes. That will be down to ten minute overtime periods.
Now both offenses will have a chance to possess the
football in overtime no matter the situation there announce there's
(18:49):
a defensive score that would be the end of the
ball game, or safety or an interception return or whatever
that is that would be an end of the game
as well. Those are the three that have passed as
of this moment. Could be a few more as the
day moves along today. But a busy week so far
down in Palm Beach at the NFL Annual Meeting, and
as we said, a busy week next week here on
(19:11):
Jaguars dot Com, we'll have some coverage of the veteran
players coming in for the off season program. They can
officially start Monday, they'll begin on Tuesday. This show will
air on Tuesday next week, of course, with all the
latest with the Jags vets coming into town and into
the building for the first time in the off season program.
Coming up this week, we'll have Huddle Up the podcast
(19:32):
coming up on Wednesday with Bucky Brooks joining us from
Los Angeles. As Pro Day season continues and over the
last next few weeks actually it should start winding down,
there'll be some workouts, some of the top quarterbacks still
set to throw and the like, but the big Pro
Day season starting to wind down now as we have
moved into April, and then on Thursday we'll have Jaguars
(19:54):
Happy Hour. Jeff Logman slated to be back with us
this week as we recap everything and get read for
next week's off season program. That will do it for today.
As we said, all the availabilities, you can check them
out on Jaguars dot com or Jaguars YouTube. James Gladstone
with John Oser yesterday in Palm Beach and the entire
thirty minute or so media availability with.
Speaker 1 (20:16):
Head coach Liam Cohen.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
Thanks to our entire crew today, David Chouprin rever, Joe
Fortunado and thanks to you for watching on JP.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
Shadrick and this is Jaggs a
