Speaker 1 (00:18):
Welcome in.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Jack's am is back with you today and we were
at training camp kicked off yesterday. We have a very
special guest, Bucky Brooks's with us this morning. John Oser.
Of course, we were all here yesterday and finally we're
back in real football season. I know John loves training
camp as much as I do. It's our favorite time.
We're finally seeing real football again. Pad's go on next week.

(00:38):
But still I'm excited.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
I mean, you should be excited. It's a new year,
new year, newest.

Speaker 4 (00:43):
Yeah, I want to say, training camps my favorite time
of year. I love the regular season, but it's uh, Look,
this is an exciting time to be around this franchise.
We all talked all off season about storylines in the
off season, and you can talk about them all you want, Bucky,
but until you see it out here, Pads, which is
what Tuesday, I think it's all talk On Tuesday, the

(01:04):
action starts.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
All right, let's do some big things. Our big thing.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
Number one is obviously we're back. We're back in the building,
back on the field. Buckets of an eventful offseason to
say the least. But what is this time of year
mean when you kind of finally get back here playing
football for real.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Well there, it's real.

Speaker 5 (01:19):
So all the things that you porize, all the things
that you talk about in meetings, now we can put
them into practice. We've heard so much about the new
regime and the new culture and the new energy in
the building.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Well, now we get a chance to see it play out.

Speaker 5 (01:31):
And for Liam Coyn, is about building the team, getting
this team ready to play. You got six weeks to
get it done, but it's about the first step in
the process.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
Yeah, in the team, I.

Speaker 4 (01:40):
Think for me detail wise, I know I love the
receivers and the skilled players on this team. I want
to find out on Tuesday if it's okay to start
loving the offensive line, which is really going to be
the storyline. We can see the non padded stuff. I
can't wait until Tuesday.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Big thing Number two is going to be two way. Obviously,
one of the huge stories of the off season. Travis Hunter.
He's gonna play on both sides of the football as
of right now. Yeah, they have him.

Speaker 6 (02:05):
Practicing on offense.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Head coach Liam Cohen talked a little bit about what
that's going to look like in terms of training camps
for Travis Hunter.

Speaker 7 (02:12):
Yeah, he will probably within the first you know, six
practices or show, like, we'll probably have them. You know,
you want to give him a couple of days offense,
couple of days defense, and then give him an opportunity
to go flip flopped within the same practice, and then
that will kind of become the norm, right Like, once
we do that, that'll kind of become the norm and

(02:32):
how we operate. But it'll probably be within the first
week or so.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
John, That was Cohen talking a little bit about he'll
start offense defense, then some practices Travis Hunter will play
on both sides of the football. It seems like a
very fluid situation from what we've heard so far.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
Yeah, first off, I love how transparent they are about this.
I've been around franchises that would have tried to hide
this and make it a big mystery. It's a huge
storyline around the league and locally. And Becky I thought
it was interesting yesterday when talked about they figured out
in the off season program that the scheduling having Travis

(03:09):
away from the offense for too long wasn't a great
thing because you need the time on task and I
assume you need sort of the memory coming back and
the review quickly. Think about when you're in school, you
need to review quickly. So they've adjusted that a little bit.
Fascinating storyline as we go forward. How they're going to
train him to get ready to play.

Speaker 5 (03:27):
Yeah, look, I think this is almost using a page
from a high school playbook. You think about the local
high school coaches how they would utilize Travis Hunter, and
what you want to do is make sure you maximize
him on offense and then utilize him in defense and
what we call those gotta habit situations.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
You think about third.

Speaker 5 (03:42):
Down, red zone, two minute, end of half situations where
you need to get the ball back to me. He's
an offensive player that's wanted to make sure you take
advantage of his skills on defense.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
I'm sure we'll talk a little bit more about his
skill set coming up, but it is exciting to kind
of see him develop and see where this is going
to go and how they will you exactly. Our final
big thing today is going to be tones better practice
is obviously a new design. Liam Cohan talked a little
bit yesterday about how he took some from all the
places that he's worked before, but.

Speaker 6 (04:12):
Fucking maybe you could speak to this specifically.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
It feels like they're doing a lot more team segments
that we've seen before in tast regimes where they focus
a little bit more individually, at least so far, because
they really want to kind of get both the new
offense and defense going.

Speaker 5 (04:24):
Yeah, so some coaches operated under plus we use the
off seasons to do all of.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
The individual work.

Speaker 5 (04:29):
But now that we're in the regular season training camp,
let's make sure we get the team things done.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
Because you talked about the limited days and pads.

Speaker 5 (04:36):
You're trying to make sure that this offense and this
defense they hit the ground running when we take place
when the regular season kicks off.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
Yeah, I'll be honest.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
Yesterday I got here on time, which I always did,
but I was sort of, you know, rolling out to
practice a little bit. Got there, and they started team
in period five and get right to it. They were
not starting team period five here in the last couple
of years. That that's not better or worse whatever, but
it's a difference. I also thought, Bucky, Uh, first day,

(05:07):
no pads, it seemed like every other play not to
give away the farm, they were calling a running play.
That felt a little symbolic to me of Hey, we're
gonna run. We wanna start working on They want to
start working on it as well. But I thought there
was a little bit of a tone setting in that sense,
we're gonna run and we're gonna get into this fast
to me. Two eleven on eleven two seven on seven,

(05:30):
day one on a ninety minute practice that felt intense
and ramped up for what's supposed to be a ramp
up practice.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
A right good, All right, stay with us here on JAGXAM.
We'll be back in a little bit. We're gonna talk
about the first day of camp, which was yesterday, and
we'll also hear from your quarterback, Trevor Lawrence. JA exam
brought to you by Field's Auto Group, Seafields First, Jacksonville's
premiere luxury auto group. Go to Fields Auto dot com.

Speaker 7 (06:02):
You know, going into this year in your in your development,
your eyes have to be a weapon and your feet
have to be in rhythm, right because we know once
stuff starts moving, it's not going to always be perfect.
So if we can continue to drill that. I thought
he had a good day, like I said, today, and
he's taken to it right. He was right foot up

(06:23):
all last year and really the course of his career
and now he's left foot up in the shotgun I'm
talking about, So that kind of involves a little bit
of a different rhythm footwork, and I thought, I think
he's done a nice job progressing that so far.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
Head coach Lean Cohne talking about Trevor Lawrence and what
they've been working with him on in this offseason and
now into training camp.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Bucky, when you've heard a lot.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
About footwork, when you're hearing him describe different situations, how
big of a.

Speaker 5 (06:49):
Difference is that, Well, it matters because the quarterbacks footwork
must match.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
The timing and the depth of the route.

Speaker 5 (06:56):
And so if you get Trevor's feet on point and
he's over with the roster, you have more rhythm, more
consistency when it comes to the past again, and it's
the little things. It's the details that matter in this league.
When you have a defense that's so fast and they
can close face quickly, it is about being on the
same page quarterback and wide receiver.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
Yeah, I think fans who really want to understand this,
it'd be good to listen to the pressers yesterday because
both Liam and Trevor talked about in pretty good detail.
It seems like they want as much from the quarterback
position to get on autopilot, and it's impossible to do,
of course, but in theory, try to get as much
on autopilot as they can, knowing that every play at

(07:36):
some points going to knock you off autopilot. But keep
it there as long, keep the cues, keep the feet
dictating what he's doing, so that he can go without
thinking as long as he can, and then when you
have to think, your mind's clearer to make a play.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (07:51):
Liam might take that analysis and laugh at it, but
I think that's close to what they're talking about. I
think it's being fascinating to watch because they are really
drilling Trevor and some fun mentals. The eye stuff Bucky
was fascinating to me because you do see more veteran
quarterbacks do that, able to win with their eyes. Trevor
hasn't done that a lot. Clearly, Liam thinks that's a

(08:11):
place where he can take a step.

Speaker 5 (08:13):
Well, I mean, if you can't get to that next
level we're talking about year five being able to level up,
that's part of the leveling up process, Like you want
Trevor to go from being a good player to a
great player, and it comes down to the details, but
it also comes down to adding other parts to the
game that helps the elite quarterbacks separate themselves from others.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
They're catering it to them, but they're not making it easy.
They made him take a test when he came.

Speaker 3 (08:35):
Back, and I'm a big believer in that.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
Trevor Lawrence talked a little bit about the offensive testing
he got when he came back.

Speaker 3 (08:42):
Common. No, it's not common. It was.

Speaker 8 (08:45):
It was pretty difficult, and not all the questions. Some
of them were some layups, but I mean, yes, there
were some good there were some good questions and there's
some tough ones that kind of got us back, get
us back going for camp and get the minds going
and you know, all the stuff you have to do
as a quarterback. It was going to kind of encompassed
our whole offense and whether it's scheme protections. There was
a lot of stuff that was good to do as

(09:06):
like one of our first days back to kind of
make sure we're ready to go. And we've been looking
over our stuff this offseason.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
So the quarterback's taking that test.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
I think Trevor said he got about an eighty five
solid beam, but it's still room for improvement. What I've noticed,
at least with Trevor, obviously it's going to be a
completely new system is third new system here since he's been.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
In the NFL.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
And I feel like what a lot of it will
come down to is how comfortable he Isn't it right?
And you can tell at least John from what I've
heard as well early he feels comfortable at least so far.

Speaker 4 (09:33):
Well, And I think this camp's going to show a lot.
He talked a lot about how he's gotten the footwork
down to where when he came back yesterday he said
it didn't feel like he was seeing it for the
first time anymore. And if you're going to call it
in him, you did a skill when you were young,
when you felt it was more natural when you did
the second time, there was sort of a sigh of

(09:55):
relief involved, it felt when he was talking to the
media like he had felt that sigh of relief. Okay, now,
some more of this is what I was talking about earlier.
Some more is on autopilot. They want him to feel
as comfortable as possible. What happens next week or in
preseason when there's a real rush, is it on autopilot?
Then stay tuned and find out.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (10:17):
I mean that's the big part. It's one thing to
go through drills and individuals. The other thing is can
it translate to team drills when you have live bodies
coming at your live pass rush?

Speaker 3 (10:27):
Can it continue to make consistent with the footwork?

Speaker 5 (10:30):
The thing that is gonna be the common denominator for
Trevor Lawrence is can he be consistent? Can we get
the consistent level of performance that we want to see
at a high level? We kept the week, kept the week.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Let's talk a little Travis Huner, because why not. We
know he's going to play on both sides of football.
Right now, he's doing offense. At some point he'll start
switching during practice. Bucky, does he have a more natural position?
I know we've talked about this a little bit before,
but I feel like they almost feel a little more
comfortable on defense in terms of natural instincts. Like when
they can get him in, that's great, but they really
want him getting in the offense as much as possible early. Well.

Speaker 5 (11:00):
I think the thing about it is also what helps
Trevor Lawrence the most well, it helps having more dynamic
athletes on the field. Travis Hunter is that he's a
terrific ball catcher in terms of he can go and
get the ball anywhere, and you want to take advantage
of those skills on the offense. Defensively, it is a
lot easier to put him in these obvious passing situations
if you're gonna use him as a two way threat.

(11:21):
That way, he knows third down, high probability of passing, game,
red zone, those two minute situations that we've talked about,
the ball is going to be thrown and allows him
to do what he does.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
Well, see ball, get ball, on offense and defense.

Speaker 4 (11:33):
I think they feel like he's eventually going to be
really good on both sides of the ball. To me,
this felt like, where can this team accelerate the quickest.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
Savings.

Speaker 4 (11:45):
It seems like if you get good offensively and can
really pressure offensively and then create some turnovers, that's an
easy way. It's an easier way to accelerate your wins
and being a dominant defensive team for how this team's built.
So I think they looked at it and said, Travis
on offense can elevate everybody really quickly. And then he

(12:05):
can make some big plays and help us with the turnovers.
So that's what I expect to see early in the season.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
Bucky.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
We know, you know all of the recruits, all of
the newer rookies at least coming into our team. So
when you're looking at some of these guys, obviously Hunter's
going to be involved right out of the gate. Who
are some of the other new guys that you feel
like can make an impact right out of the gate
or maybe starting potentially.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
Well, we talked about a Shuel too.

Speaker 5 (12:26):
The running back from Virginia Tech is someone who has
the juice. We think about this offense and the way
that you score points and the league is creating explosive plays,
runs of ten yards or more, passes of twenty plus yards.
When you have those explosive plays to push you close
to the ends one and you score more points. Toot
In is someone that can put points on the board.
So I would look for him to have a big impact.
And when it comes to the other players, Look, the

(12:47):
offensive line is going to be there where why Mollum
talked about is he going to be able to get
into rotation and do those things?

Speaker 3 (12:53):
To me, though it's on offense looking at the perimeter.

Speaker 5 (12:56):
Can we have guys that can make big plays in
the passing game and also his runners, that's where the
points are gonna come.

Speaker 3 (13:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (13:02):
I always try to look for ways you can go
win and impact moments. Johnny Brown Travis Hunter touton how
much faster are they over seventeen game season? You could
easily see those three guys create six seven fifty yard
touchdowns right as a group, you get six or seven

(13:25):
more fifty yard touchdowns in a one score league all
of a sudden, you're talking about elevating. You can get
three or four wins.

Speaker 3 (13:32):
Out of that.

Speaker 4 (13:34):
That's where they have a chance. If they're gonna be better,
if they're gonna be a league wide storyline, I think
that's where they have.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
A chance to do it. Very good.

Speaker 2 (13:42):

Speaker 3 (14:30):
So I'm a little jealous of the emoji.

Speaker 1 (14:32):
I like whatever you want.

Speaker 6 (14:37):
If we get Bucky Brooks, don I will give him
all the graphics.

Speaker 3 (14:40):
A little, a little emos. I liked it.

Speaker 1 (14:41):
I will say John has earned it.

Speaker 4 (14:42):
He got the graph well, and on this day, thirty
seven years ago, I would have been working for our sponsor.
So life is a short Setteth van Lines is where
I was in nineteen eighty eight, and so it all
comes for a sorcer.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
All right, let's we'll circle.

Speaker 2 (14:58):
Let's start with Gary from Fleming Island. I go to
Jaguars in ESPN dot com. I can find a current
depth chart. However, in the Jaguars site there's no depth chart.
Why is there a difference?

Speaker 4 (15:08):
Well, we can use this talk about the depth chart
a little bit. Bucky teams typically don't release a depth
chart until right before Week one or maybe the preseason game.
They're all unofficial, So just write the ozone if you
want to figure out who the backup guard is. Right now,
I'll lead you the best I can, But Bucky, I
think you know on this question. This to me feels

(15:32):
like a team legitimately without a depth chart, as much
as you can be. We all know there's a lot
of starters set, but there's more competition on this roster
than any team I've been around in a long time.

Speaker 5 (15:43):
Yeah, if here's a depth chart as in pencil, not
in pen there are a lot of guys that are
competing for jobs in spots, and you kind of like this.
This is the old school essence of what training camp
should be. Go earn your spot.

Speaker 1 (15:54):
I will say it's a little different than last year.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
I do want to differentiate and say it's not because
they're not ever going to have one. I think they're
just still competing, right, I feel like defense at certain
points it was all the rotations.

Speaker 1 (16:03):
We're not doing that again.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
Is the point like that?

Speaker 1 (16:07):
That's not my favorite?

Speaker 3 (16:08):
Everybody ever gets a trophy.

Speaker 6 (16:11):
I won't speak for the fans, but we're moving on anyway.
Let's talk about one of my favorite videos I've seen.

Speaker 1 (16:17):
This is actually a question. It's from Pete from Queensbury,
New York. He says John.

Speaker 2 (16:20):
The Jaguars won the fourteen You Boys Flag Football Championship.

Speaker 6 (16:24):
Is this a sign for the Jaguars? Have you seen
this video of this catch?

Speaker 4 (16:27):
But I've seen, Yes, I've seen the catch. It's a
remarkable catch. It's Bucky Brooks level.

Speaker 3 (16:33):
Oh so it's the hell of a catch.

Speaker 6 (16:35):
Yeah, it's it's eighteen rys and Wright Fromandarin.

Speaker 4 (16:38):
He learned it from twenty two.

Speaker 3 (16:40):
How about that?

Speaker 1 (16:40):
Sure it is?

Speaker 3 (16:41):
That is a great catch.

Speaker 5 (16:43):
So even before this, he was like flag football player
of the Year, like this is a legit monster.

Speaker 2 (16:48):
Jacksonville does not play about flag football at all, and
they won their championship as well, So I choose to think.

Speaker 3 (16:55):
It is it's a good omen.

Speaker 4 (16:57):
It may as well be a good championships. It's Travis
Hunter stuff out there.

Speaker 1 (17:02):
Absolutely, look at that.

Speaker 6 (17:03):
Look at this.

Speaker 1 (17:04):
Look et he's ready.

Speaker 6 (17:07):
Let's suit them up.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
Look at him out of camp.

Speaker 6 (17:09):
All right, we love it. We're live from training camp.

Speaker 2 (17:11):

up the rest of the week, and we'll give you
