Speaker 1 (00:26):
Okay, this is what been visioned in January.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Okay, sir, it's happening here in September.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
Gonna go on further.

Speaker 4 (00:43):
Welcome to dag Dam this morning.

Speaker 5 (00:45):
It's victory Monday here in Duvall and we love the
sounds of that. Celebrating their first win of the season
after Week one, a win over the Panthers. Let's get
into things, Big things brought to you by g e
H A Government Employees Health Association and Top Cat Fight. Yesterday,
Jagglars were able to come out on top, battling through adversity.

Speaker 4 (01:04):
We and Powen looked back on his first game as
a head coach.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
Really cool to be sitting, you know, to be standing
up here obviously after a win, but I was just
really proud to be their coach today with the way
that they competed, the way we hit, the way we
were more physical, all the things that we kind of
wanted to preach about. Now is it perfect and absolutely not.
You know, you're frustrated with some of the penalties that
have continued to bite us in the butt that we've

(01:31):
we did overcome at times, but it's that's not something
we want to get used to doing by any means,
and so when you play teams as we go throughout
this thing, we cannot do those things and expect to win.

Speaker 4 (01:45):
Brian, It wasn't perfect.

Speaker 5 (01:46):
We didn't expect it to be, but it was so
nice to see some resiliency out of them, seeing them
battle back they had that long rain delay about an
hour in the middle of the second quarter, come back out,
play well right off the bat then, and to get
this victory.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
But in different ways.

Speaker 5 (02:01):
Right, we saw them play great defense, which maybe we
didn't expect out of the gate. We saw the run
game show up. It was multi fasted and it was
nice to see.

Speaker 6 (02:08):
You know, I think the question to ask is were
they fast?

Speaker 3 (02:11):
Right?

Speaker 6 (02:11):
If you remember when Liam Cohen was hired, he said
he wanted a team that played fundamentally sound, that was attacking,
that was situational masters, and that were tough. And we
can go through all of those. We don't have an
hour and show you examples of all of them. Right,
situational masters, how about forty seven seconds remain when Foyer
Lucan forces the fumble at the end of the second quarter,
and they use forty six of it to set up

(02:32):
a field goal to go up twenty to three. The
toughness was evident in so many ways. I like what
you said, though, resilient because we've talked about that ad
nauseum since the end of twenty twenty three, and on
the first drive they had to overcome first and twenty
second in twenty they couldn't overcome the intentional grounding, but
they managed a field goal.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
There were so many examples.

Speaker 6 (02:51):
Of when the team stood strong and came back and
made a play after they had given up a play man.
I was really encouraged because what Liam said he was
going to deliver on his first Sunday as the head coach.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
He did.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
Yeah, they won moments, which is what Brian's talking about
with situational mass. You know, they got the red zone
twice and instead of it being like this hold your
breath moment score and it's not always gonna happen, but
they got some touchdowns that put them up. And then conversely,
the Panthers didn't. The Panthers had the ball inside Jaguars

(03:27):
territory twice in the third and couldn't get it in.
They didn't master them, and the Jaguars dead. I thought
it was exactly what they wanted. Kay, you said it
wasn't perfect. It is that such thing in the NFL
is perfect. What's perfect is winning the first game as
your head coach, which only Doug Marone has done in
this franchise.

Speaker 5 (03:44):
Finding a way to win, it's very crucial, especially in
the NFL. Our Second big thing today is going to
be runaway. We talked about the run game being a
focus for this team going forward. That was evident on Sunday.
Not only Travis DPN, but four running backs were dressed
and played and all of them contributed.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
To have all four of those backs contribute today, right,
I mean, whether it shows up in the status sheet
is having all these yards. And obviously EUTNA will get
a lot of that praise, deservingly so. But I think
that room in general, with Chad Mortan as their coach,
have done a phenomenal job getting better and improving all
throughout this you know, entire time since we've been here.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
Really, John a.

Speaker 5 (04:23):
Lot, I'm talking the off season, how are they gonna
find a way to use these guys? They found a way.
Travis etn of course having a day. It was nice
to see what they talked about in the off season
come to life in that first game.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Yeah, and what really came to life two hundred yards rushing,
which is I guess the most since twenty two when
they lost to the Colts in Indy. How perfect was
that when you have a coach who comes in talks
all off season about running, talks the week before the
game about well, we think, but we don't know until
we see it. And then when you saw it, you
not only had the seventy one yard run, but you

(04:57):
had some runs late where they you know, with four
minutes to go the game, you felt it was decided,
but it wasn't absolutely decided, and then they get a
couple of long runs in that situation. I liked the
way they got all four backs involved. I think Travis
will be the guy until he's not meaning until Baseelle

(05:17):
Tuton comes along with his speed and makes it happen
in that position. But look, they're deep, and I think
Cohen's going to play all three of them all, I
mean all four of them all season.

Speaker 6 (05:27):
If you want to be a physical team, you have
to be able to run the ball and stop the run.
And if you're going to be a team that can
run the ball and stop the run, Ky you have
to practice it. I go back to the very first
day in pads in training camp. The first live team
drilled was running the football. Keep in mind we're talking
about Trevor Lawrence and Brian Thomas Junior and Travis Hunter.
You must run the ball, and the Jaguars did it

(05:49):
over and over and over through the preseason. Liam Cohen
showed the commitment that offensive line was tremendous yesterday. Not
only did they create holes and space for Travis and
the running backs to make positive yardage. The quarterback was
only touched on the intentional grounding and that may have
been his fault because he should have got rid of
the ball a step or two earlier. They did a
tremendous job. The physical mindset of this team just was

(06:13):
everywhere you looked yesterday and it was great to see.

Speaker 5 (06:16):
Our final big thing today is going to be Double's debut.
We talked a ton about Travis Hunter playing on both
sides of the football.

Speaker 4 (06:22):
He did that.

Speaker 5 (06:23):
It's an evolving situation of head coach Liam Cohen says,
it'll probably change.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
Week to week.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
That was game one, you know, I think that was
week one where you missed ten days or so and
there was some, you know, a lot of different kind
of coverage changes in the back end for us with
some of their formations adjustments. It was a lot those
guys had to handle defensively, and so it was maybe,
excuse me, a little bit less for him this game.

(06:50):
I think it'll only continue to evolve and go more.
I thought he played hard on offense. I thought he
played fast, he had some good catches, ran the right route.
So I can only see it going and expanding from here.

Speaker 5 (07:03):
Fran we talked a ton about Travis hun Are playing
on both sides.

Speaker 4 (07:06):
Of the football.

Speaker 5 (07:06):
It was mostly offense in this game, but I think
going forward we may see more shifts to him playing
a little bit more on defense.

Speaker 4 (07:13):
But what was your evaluation of what was the offense?

Speaker 6 (07:15):
Well, we saw what thirty nine snaps on offense, which
I think we figured because the Panthers are going to
run the ball so much, we only saw six snaps
from him, And I think you're right. I think it
might change this week when you go up against a
team with Joe Burrow to Higgins, Jamar Chase. Who's the
best receiver in football right now? I mean, I have
nothing to base that on none of us do because
it's only the second game for this young man in
the NFL. But I would think that situationally, week to week,

(07:38):
you might be able to look and just say here
we go. But it's there is a strategic element to it.
They're figuring that out as they go along. If you
ask Liam, I'm sure he would tell you we are
going week to week with this thing. I would think
that this would be a week you might see more defense.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
John, Yeah, I think it'll grow in large part when
you're playing a big, physical team that wants to run.
I don't particularly when Travis Hunter out there taking a
lot of pounding trying to stop at two hundred and
twenty pound running back. So I also think from what
Liam said, a part of it was the fact that
he missed ten days in training camp. There's a lot

(08:16):
of information to absorb. He's absorbing it, but he missed
that a little bit. But look, he showed some flashes offensively.
He's a very exciting player, and even though he's a
number two pick in the draft, he's still a rookie.
This will grow. He'll come along and we'll find out
in the next four or five weeks what this is
going to look like.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
You know, for what it's worth, Kite. He loved it.

Speaker 6 (08:38):
You know, he came to the podium after the game,
and you know, he has not been that effusive, He's
not been that normally outwardly, you know, joyful guy that
we saw early on. He's been pretty closed during training camp.
But he had that great, big smile on his face
and he enjoyed it, and he talked with the media
about how he knows what kind of player he is
and he knows he has to get better and he
knows he can get better. I was really impressed just

(09:00):
with him and the joy that we saw from him
afterwards in his first NFL game.

Speaker 5 (09:04):
Yeah, I think clearly he was happy to go out there,
let it his play speak for him as well, and
kind of start that new part of his career.

Speaker 4 (09:11):
So stay with us here on jag Zam.

Speaker 5 (09:13):
We got the highlights coming for you after the break
here on victory Monday.

Speaker 7 (09:30):
Yes, it feels great. Where's the direction we're heading? Like
I said, you can't take it for what of this
We won in a week once. We want to know
to start the season, and we're all pumped about that.
A lot of work went into it, and we're not
no one takes for granted. You know how hard it
is to win in this league, so we're all really
proud of that. But it's one game, so you know.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
We got to keep doing it.

Speaker 5 (09:51):
Certainly is not easy to win in the NFL, so
we'll take a dub when we get a dub, but
we're going to enjoy it today and we're going to
look back at some of the highlights because it was
fun and a lot of different things happened. Obviously, there
was that huge stoppage in the second quarter, so I
felt like we went through different phases of the game
as well at different times. But I didn't know if
we were gonna be talking a ton about the defense

(10:11):
considering where we were last year. But that was the
story of the day for me. So Aluiken, probably you
know your player of the game in some regards.

Speaker 6 (10:19):
Player one A for sure. I thought Dewey Winger played
amazing football. I mean when he hit people, they went backwards,
so he would be one B.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
Yeah, and he's gonna have a chat with his safety
mate and who I'm not sure he made such a
bad play on the penalty, but you know there's gonna
be a conversation about taking away his touchdown. But I mean,
that's obviously all that's fun. I also thought, you can't
you can't discount what Jordan Lewis did. I mean, we
talked all off season about intercepting and getting hands on

(10:50):
the ball, and they had their hands on the ball
a lot there for a secondary that was the story
in the wrong direction last year. Do you make him
play in the ball like that? I don't know how
good guyce Young is, but boyd, did they make plays
in a way that they wanted to make plays.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
Well.

Speaker 6 (11:11):
Something else worth mentioning is that you know, Eric Murray
comes in and he sets that play up there, and
you mentioned Jordan Lewis had the interception that ended the game.
So two free agents come in and help change the
direction of the secondary and of the defense.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
Great effort all around.

Speaker 6 (11:25):
On the part of James Gladstone, Tony Boselli and Liam
Cohen to identify guys who could help them make quick
changes here.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
Yeah, and there were so many times yesterday where we've
all been around football a lot. We've been a lot
on a lot of training camps where they have their
talking points, right, they talk about stuff and you're sitting
rolling your eyes. A lot of years the things they
talked about came to fruition. How many times did you
hear Camp and Eely talk about we're going to be

(11:52):
running to the ball, our eyes on the ball. Well,
the first interception of the game was Murray with his
eyes on the ball making a tip and then Foy
and I can able to play being around the ball.
So it's my hot take later because I have hot takes. Yeah,
but this was exactly what they wanted.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
To be exactly.

Speaker 5 (12:11):
Let's take a look at this first touchdown drive for them.
They got a I will also say on their first
drive for them to go on for it on fourth down.
We're not going to show that, but being yeah, being confident,
being I.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
Mean attacking right, attack part of fast.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
He got attack.

Speaker 3 (12:27):
He said he was going to do it, and I thought, well,
here we go right out of.

Speaker 4 (12:31):
The gate and it worked.

Speaker 5 (12:32):
So he looks really smart. Yeah, so we liked that.
But let's take a look at this touchdown drive. Trevor
had a I think a decent day to start. Maybe
a little got a little lost in the second half there,
but early it looked good. Scrambled and then sets up
I did not have on my bingo card that Hunter
Long was going to have the first touchdown of the year.

Speaker 4 (12:48):
But it works for me and I'm here for it.
Just just smart.

Speaker 5 (12:51):
Plays out of the out of the gate and kind
of seeing him as we discussed John, making stuff happen.
Whether that was the play that was drowned up originally,
not this one in particular, but just making his way
through the offense and making decisions.

Speaker 3 (13:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
I thought he played. You know, I got some emails people,
Oh he's not improving. It's that first game in the scheme.
I thought he missed some in the second half, but
I also thought there were some throws in key moments
and some decisions made. They were the right decisions. I
don't know if he's ever going to be a top

(13:23):
three quarterback in the NFL. He plays like this and
builds on this. He's a quarterback you can win with.
And maybe people don't want to hear that, but that's
where he is now, and I think if he builds
on where he is, I think you can get a
lot done with him as he grows in this offense.

Speaker 6 (13:40):
Yeah, he was better than the numbers would suggest. The
numbers seem rather pedestrian. But I thought he was in
control and command for most of the game. You know,
two plays you'd like back. The first was the intentional grounding.
I mean, this is something he still has to learn
to do, is understand the circumstances.

Speaker 3 (13:55):
It's first intent at the nineteen.

Speaker 6 (13:56):
Yard like, just get rid of the ball, right, live
to fight another play, And we've seen from time to
time from him over his career, and the other ones
put the ball another foot over. Although jac Horn made
an amazing play on that interception, just astounding.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
Yeah, I think it's tough to say he'd want to
have that one. I mean, he may have missed that
throw by six inches. Yeah, it's a touch. I mean
he missed one to BTJ. That was a pretty easy
throw that you're OK. But you know what I mean,
Aber a lot of quarterbacks. Quarterback just throws every now
and then. I mean c J. Stroud everything is the
best quarterback in the division through four hundred and eighty
eight yesterday.

Speaker 3 (14:29):
So let's see what he does. So let's not.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
Automatically assume that the couple of misses what we're going
to see. I liked the way the offense ran and
it seemed like they liked the way he controlled it,
and I said, all along, they want to get They
kept him in a lot of non gray yesterday. Do
that for a few weeks and then see how he
starts making plays as he gains footing in this offense.

Speaker 4 (14:54):
For me, clearly the focus was the run game. Yesterday.

Speaker 5 (14:57):
We talked about all of them contributing, but traves E
t his longest career rush there. Ran out of gas
a little bit at the end, which he'll tell you himself,
but great to see. Kind of Also the block Brent
Stranger throws in the beginning to set it up.

Speaker 4 (15:10):
The whole thing was just that's football. You just love
to see it.

Speaker 6 (15:13):
Well you actually Travis Etn on the pregame show, we
talked about him the last couple of weeks. He had
a tremendous camp. He seemed primed and ready to go.
I thought he ran tough. I've never thought of him
as a tough runner. But there were a couple of
runs up the middle, and I mean jumping into the
middle and then cutting it back.

Speaker 3 (15:29):
That's the elite cutback there. That was tremendous.

Speaker 2 (15:31):
Yeah, I don't know, I mean, I don't know if
I'm right on this, but it looked when he was
a rookie. I think he takes this thing outside. I'm
not to work it. The second year. I think he
takes that run outside and gets seven yards going the line.
He has worked. I've talked to him a little bit
about it, and so you guys have too. He's worked
at going after that whole inside as we did on

(15:54):
that run, and he did a lot yesterday. It's hard
for him to be a tough, physical running back because
he's not that way felt like Tang Bigsby. But he
ran hard and I thought going in that he was
going to have a big year. And he's on my
fantasy team, by the way, and that and that interesting
daybody who's not now.

Speaker 4 (16:13):
It's really important that he plays, though, but.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
He really fits. And I said it a million times.
I don't think this regime was sure about him when
they took over, and he absolutely embraced the opportunity his
role and they love him. I mean, he's a big
part of this playing.

Speaker 6 (16:31):
On a fifth year option, and they draft to running
backs that they love. If your Travis, you are playing
for your future and probably most likely not here. But
if he plays like that over and over, he's going
to force them to make some decisions. I just think
that it's a tremendous opportunity for him. His brother was here, obviously,
he had family here for him to come out and play.

Speaker 3 (16:52):
Well like that.

Speaker 6 (16:54):
Trevor and Travis were both first round picks from Clemson
in twenty twenty one. It's a big year. That was
a big moment for Trevor. Yesterday turned out for Travis too.
Good for both of them to come through in a
big way.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
Well, he's a pro now, and I think when he
was a kid he was maybe a good player. Now
he's the kind of guy who.

Speaker 3 (17:12):
Helps you win.

Speaker 5 (17:13):
Yeah, nice to see for him personally successful for him,
but also just we talked a ton about that crowded
running back room, but we saw success from Travis taking
over that main role and then contributions elsewhere.

Speaker 4 (17:24):
Baseil Tooton looks good.

Speaker 5 (17:25):
Brian Thomas had a rushing touchdown on that play there,
so we just saw so that was great. Let's talk
a little bit about situational football. We discussed that force
fumble to get the turnover close to the second half
after that delay setting up the field goal. So Foy Luke,
and we already talked about his interception, but being smart
about forcing the football. He talked about when he saw
the quarterback leave the pocket. You know, you don't want

(17:45):
to go after anybody's head. You don't want to get
a penalty. So he said, I'm gonna take my shot
at the ball, and that's exactly what worked out for him.

Speaker 3 (17:50):
Such a smart, heady player.

Speaker 6 (17:52):
You know, he's a guy who racks up tackle after
tackle after tackle, and as in his career, had some
of these kinds of plays, but it's not what he's
known four So for him to come out yesterday and
create two of them that led to ten points in
the first half, that's a nice sign for a guy
who's playing in a new scheme for the first time.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
Well look, Liam said it, and the NFL is different
than when I started covering. It's now a game of
momentum where no lead is safe. At the time, that
was seventeen to three games and they're thirty two. You know,
in a lot of years that's seventeen ten at halftime
you're holding your breath. This year, they get a turnover,
go down and score. It's twenty three games over and

(18:32):
that turn was in what a forty five seconds, so
again a situation. They won a lot of momentum swinging
situations and turned it back in their favor and made
that game look very comfortable, which it was. Don't you know.
I had some emails last night guys of you know,
complaining about it and how many comfortable victories have you
had around you no matter the opponent as situation. You

(18:55):
never felt after that field goal that they were pressured.
It doesn't happen a lot in the NFL. It's a
good sign they could do that no matter the opponent.

Speaker 6 (19:01):
And that play to the thirty two yard line before
Foyer forced it is another example of what you talked
about resiliency. You know, here they are getting backed up
and he comes through with the big play. It just
felt that way all day that when the Jaguars gave
something up, they had what it took to get it back.

Speaker 5 (19:17):
Let's take a look at that play where we're talking
about Trevor's throw. The interception a remarkable play by jac Horn,
pro Bowl player at.

Speaker 4 (19:23):
Corner for the Panthers.

Speaker 5 (19:24):
But to go up and get it I think, I
I think for Trevor normally he he hits that a
little bit farther more in stride for tr Again, amazing player.
I'm not knocking and saying it was a terrible throw
by Trevor by any means. Amazing play by jac Horn
to go up and get that ball. But it might
have been Travis Hunder's first touchdown if it was a
touch higher.

Speaker 3 (19:42):
Oh, he had a smile on his face.

Speaker 6 (19:44):
Yeah, he talked in the in his post game that
he was going if he grabs that ball, and John
you said he missed it maybe by six inches a
foot at the most.

Speaker 3 (19:51):
Yeah, it was just a great play.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
I kind of wonder if he even missed it. I
mean it, I'll give the benefit of doubt that he did.
But look, he's a prob player, and this, to me
came out of the category of those guys get paid to.

Speaker 3 (20:04):
That's one hundred million dollar corner.

Speaker 4 (20:06):
You.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
If this game was easy, you'd win them all thirty five.
Nothing like college.

Speaker 4 (20:12):
It's hard defense. Though.

Speaker 5 (20:15):
On the other side, when the Panthers decided to go
for it and fourth down a couple of times yesterday,
actually to get those stops, that was the first thing
we haven't seen around here.

Speaker 6 (20:23):
Either, the first one, and I don't know if you're
going to show that, but the first one on third
down to watch Trayvon Walker with one hand take the
end of the tackle and close the hole and Dewey
wingerd come up and just hit it with forrest. Set
up fourth down, they got pressure and then Tyson Campbell's
play right here was I don't know the last.

Speaker 3 (20:40):
Time I saw a play like that on the goal line.

Speaker 6 (20:41):
I mean maybe Jalen Ramsey against Philadelphia in London in
twenty eighteen. But it's been a long time since we've
seen a corner make a big time to play. And
that receiver, by the way, was bedeviling everybody yesterday with
his length and his hype.

Speaker 2 (20:53):
YEA, they a secondary that was fairly last year. They revamped,
they rebuilt, They had plays from guys who've been around.
They played from the veteran all season during training camp,
I kept hearing from people the key is communication. I
don't know that they have Pro Bowl players in the secondary,

(21:14):
maybe one, but Eric Murray, winding guard Jordan Lewis. The
communication is high and there were no breaks yesterday.

Speaker 6 (21:21):
Well in confidence, right, I mean, I think at times
last year we saw Tyson Campbell tried to do too
much because he knew that they had mount Terrek Brown
on the other side. That's not Jordan Lewis. You didn't
have on Rcisco in safety, not Eric Murray. And so
those guys get frustrated and they try to make plays
because as the season went along, let's be fa last
year that plays it made. So I think there's a

(21:42):
confidence level amongst these guys and that they can do
their job and not worry about anyone else's and that
we saw that yesterday.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
And you had you had a couple of safeties who
can hit. To remember the game in the balance, Eric
Murray had a huge play. How to remember it because
there were other highlight plays, but maybe some tone setting
going on too.

Speaker 5 (22:02):
Yeah, sure, and talk about tone setting. Jordan Lewis had
that interception kind of to seal it at the end.
Obviously Dewey's interception I got called back because of penalty.
But Jordan Lewis the captain, first year captain. Here is
a free agent. Three takeaways in last year they had nine.

Speaker 4 (22:17):
They're already had a third of their total last year.

Speaker 2 (22:19):
Well, and this one went back. Sorry guy, it goes
back to eyes on the ball. I mean they believe
that with playing more zone, having eyes on the ball,
that they will get more picks. And they got two yesterday.
I'm saying they wouldn't have got them they were in man,
but it certainly looked like these were eyes on the ball.

Speaker 6 (22:40):
Picks the other thing, and there's not a sack that
we can really show.

Speaker 3 (22:46):
I mean one, but forty one.

Speaker 6 (22:49):
To forty four were in the backfield, and so we're
ninety and ninety eight oak Bough and Smooth. I mean,
they got a lot of pressure. They didn't get to
him very often. They obviously had the game plan to
get rid of the ball quickly, but the Jaguars front
on defense put a lot of pressure on those guys.

Speaker 2 (23:04):
We think about what they did too. We talked a
little bit during training camp about this decision making, Trio's
willingness to go and dress stuff. They went out and
got Smooth and on the series we had the sack.
He also had a huge stop. I think it was
on second down. You bring in some guys who matter,
and you feel deeper, you feel better at that spot.

(23:25):
So again, there's so many things you couldn't have had
in some ways if they had done their little script,
they kind of went through and checked it and they're
probably walking around feeling very good and they should.

Speaker 3 (23:35):
Today.

Speaker 5 (23:37):
We feel good today because it's victory Monday. We always
feel good on victory Monday. So with us on jag Zam,
we have hot takes for you coming up after the break.
Hot Takes on jag z Am today, brought to you
by Firehouse.

Speaker 2 (23:54):
Subs coming out here and then everybody flying around and everybody,
you know, keeping that camaraderie that we have from off
seasons to this first game.

Speaker 3 (24:03):
I mean, it just felt great.

Speaker 2 (24:04):
So in the turnovers, like we're doing stuff right.

Speaker 3 (24:07):
Let's keep doing it, let's keep improving on it.

Speaker 5 (24:10):
Welcome back into jag Zam. Fire House Subs bringing you
hot takes today. They're also free Medium subs if you
buy a medium sub check out the app. Because cam
Little makes field goals, that's a good thing for people
that like.

Speaker 3 (24:20):
It's going to cost fire House some money this year.

Speaker 4 (24:22):
They are going to be giving out a lot of sandwiches,
I imagine.

Speaker 2 (24:24):
I think every game makes it feel it's.

Speaker 4 (24:25):
Forty yards plus field.

Speaker 3 (24:27):
Goal, which seems like a given sleep.

Speaker 5 (24:31):
I know, I know they're going to be given out
a lot of sandwiches, So that's good for them.

Speaker 4 (24:35):
But Brian, what's your hot take.

Speaker 6 (24:37):
Forse Listen, every coach talks about physical it's a physical game,
but we have not seen a real physical team around
here for a while. Liam Cohen said it the first
day he was here, and last week it was the worst. Coordinators, coaches,
players and the head coach all talked about being the
more physical team, and they were. And I'm looking at
next week against Cincinnati and I expect this team to

(24:58):
go be the most physical team on the field next
week against the Bengals.

Speaker 3 (25:03):
In fact, the next week.

Speaker 6 (25:04):
The Texans come in and the Jaguars got pushed around
by the Texans. So we've got a test in the
next two weeks. Can they continue to be physical? And
I think they will be next week against Cincinnati, and
then can they be the more physical team in two
weeks when the Texans are here. I love the physicality
that I saw along both lines. I think John that
this was the best tackling performance that I've seen from

(25:25):
a Jaguars defense since twenty seventeen. I think the mindset
is there. They've got the bodies up front, They've made
the improvements on both lines, to be a physical football team,
and on Sunday in Cincinnati, I expect them to be
the more physical of the two teams.

Speaker 2 (25:40):
Yeah, that's how they wanted to play. And it's sort
of segues into my hot takes hearing that John, But
it's exactly what they wanted to look like. And that's
rare that in the opener because it's so weird. We
talk about every year how weird the openers are. This

(26:02):
one wasn't weird to the Jaguars. They did exactly what
they wanted to do. They ran. If you had asked
Liam on Sunday morning, do you think you can run
for two hundred you probably said yes, you know, do
you think you really will? Two hundreds hard to get
to and it was the way they ran to the
seventy one yard or early, and then they picked up

(26:22):
some third downs, they picked up some first downs running
the ball. And then to flip it and to talk
all off season about turnovers, to say, it's what you
wanted to do, to be physical and to get those takeaways.
A coach is like being able to I'm sure there's
stuff they can scrutinize, but they also like every now

(26:44):
and then to say, see, if you do this, you
can have these results. I think they got that kind
of a game. When you're taking over a new regime,
it is important. I think Foya mentioned it for the
players to get some success with it, because then they're
not in their group text going hey does this really work?
You know, there's no doubt this morning from these guys

(27:08):
that what they're selling, if they buy, they can win.

Speaker 5 (27:12):
It's nice to see the words backed up by the
act YEA, yeah.

Speaker 2 (27:15):
Yeah, which really does havep You're talking about young people
who are players who if they don't see it, then
all of a sudden you doubt it. And they should
have a lot of confidence in what in the approach
right now after yesterday.

Speaker 6 (27:29):
Yesterday met the standard met It didn't exceeded right because
there were penalties and things like that. But Liam talked
about a standard. They met it yesterday and if you
continue to approach it and meet it, eventually that standard.

Speaker 3 (27:40):
Becomes your culture.

Speaker 5 (27:42):
Mine is a little more player specific, and I'm stealing
from Jeff Logerman a little bit because I know this
is his favorite player. But for me on this team,
Brenton Strange is better than Evan Ingram. Yes, Evan Ingram,
also one of my favorite players, had a ton of
success here offensively but as a full tight end. If
you love football and you go back and watch this tape,
you look at travessey Can's long run, look at the

(28:04):
block that's set on the left side by Brenton Strange,
and then late in the fourth quarter, Tanks Bigsby has
a run and he lays out a man with his
shoulder And I watched it like ten times already.

Speaker 4 (28:15):
It's spectacular if you love football.

Speaker 5 (28:17):
The way he sets blocks, and I truly believe when
he says he loves to set a block as much
as he loves to catch touches well.

Speaker 6 (28:22):
And he had four catches and all of them felt
like they were important at the time. They were keeping
the drive going. So what a complete football player. He
was a second round pick who didn't come out of
the show as a rookie, and people said, well, he
was a second round pick, shouldn't he be better than this?

Speaker 4 (28:37):
He hasn't always given opportunity.

Speaker 6 (28:38):
To without a doubt, but he's developed into a pro.
Like Traves, he was a good player, and he is a.

Speaker 3 (28:44):
Really good football I mean really good.

Speaker 6 (28:47):
He may never make a Pro Bowl because tight ends
are judged by the number of catches in the league
that values the passing game.

Speaker 3 (28:54):
But that was a Pro Bowl caliber performance that he
put on yesterday.

Speaker 2 (28:57):
Yeah, and in another vein of checking every box on
the run, Brenton had a great block. The fact that
Diame was the thirty five yards downfield blocking. How many
times did you hear Liam talking the off season about
wide receivers needing the block. Every team tells its wide
receivers they need a block, right, doesn't always happen. But

(29:18):
these guys have bought into that, and that block gave
twenty five more yards on that play. So if you
don't get that, you're not at the twenty, you're at
the fifty a drive constall, So they really got a lesson.
They'll put that on the board this week and say,
see this is what we're talking about. It helps you win.

Speaker 4 (29:33):
Absolutely. Stay with here on Jagszam.

Speaker 5 (29:35):
Coming up after the break, we'll tell you what the
schedules for the rest of the week and when we
got coming up.

Speaker 4 (29:44):
Jags Van. If you want customized Jaguars.

Speaker 5 (29:46):
Furniture for your home, check got zipchare dot com to
rouse all the customizable options zipchair is furniture.

Speaker 8 (29:51):
For fans, been a competitor, been a football player. We
don't work hard to come on here and not put
our best foot forward. Well, my little brother on the
other sideline, had motivation, kind of wanted to show him
how to run the ball, show him how has done so.
This is a great feeling just being able to shed
a field with him and being able to come out

(30:12):
with doings.

Speaker 4 (30:13):
Big day for the Ecn family.

Speaker 5 (30:15):
Travis little brother, Trevor, drafted by the Panthers, got some
action on special teams. But I wrote about this for you, John,
for what a difference in year makes this time. Last year,
Traves Ytn fumbles at the goal line and it felt
like everything kind of went down the spiral after that.
But as I will always give credit to Travis Ytn
for he stood up after that game, spoke about it,

(30:35):
took you know, ownership of that, and then for him
to come out and have such a.

Speaker 4 (30:39):
Great game in the first game of this season. It
was nice to see the one eighty.

Speaker 2 (30:43):
Look he He's turned into a pro and he was
always I've always liked being around Travis. I've always liked
it because he's very introspective, and understands running back situation
in the NFL. But I said early, if you had
have fifty three guys with his mindset, his approach, you

(31:04):
can win a lot of games. He's he could have
easily gone the other direction. When there was all the
trade talk in the off season, all of the you know,
you draft two guys. Everybody assumed Tank was going to
be the guy, and Tank out rushed him. You know,
Travis was the starter, but Tank was really the number

(31:25):
one running back last year. He played through it, maturely,
went about his business, and he is a pro who,
as I said earlier, out of fifty three guys, not
all of them, you know, are tangibly helping you win
all the time, you know, but this is a guy
who does things to help you win. I'm a big
Travis fan.

Speaker 6 (31:44):
We've talked a lot about the running game. Just one point.
I don't think we have touched on much. The run
defense was really good. I mean, Hubbard had won fifty
seven yards on sixteen carriage. They had forty yards from
the quarterback scrambling out of the pocket, which is something
that Jaguars have to fix. But for them to take
a guy who was at the housing yard rusher and
a good running football team. They shut the running game down,
so kudos to the run defense.

Speaker 5 (32:05):
Also got out of there relatively healthy as well. I
know Anton Harrison left later in the game, so we'll hear.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
Back really really late. I'm not sure about that.

Speaker 5 (32:12):
Yeah, so we'll have to hear what the severity of
that is. But we'll hear from Liam Cohen this afternoon
and then we'll be back with you guys here on
jag Zam on Wednesdays, we look ahead to the Bengals
in Week two. Enjoy victory Monday,
