Speaker 1 (00:16):
Welcome to jag Vam this Monday. I'm kind Aunty Stephen,
Brian Sexton, John Osier with us this morning as we
go over a frustrating Week two lost to the Daguars.
We led un the entire game in Cincinnati and lost
in the final minute to the Bengals. Let's start out
with big thing number one, which is a missed opportunity
and a game where quarterback Joe Burrow was knocked out
in the first half. They went up against back of
(00:38):
Jake Browning but couldn't pull out a win.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
Yeah, I mean, it's just like dang it, like dang it.
It is early though, It's early, so I'm not gonna splinter.
There's gonna be a lot to learn from it. No,
no excuse at all. I mean, I gotta go win
that freaking game.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
But yeah, it was a frustrating one, especially because of
it felt like that was a chance for me to
get to the Bengals and just kind of a lot
of things went wrong.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
In that game.
Speaker 4 (01:07):
Jas Steel Rods lead, right, I mean, a team that
hasn't won on the road a lot lately, that was
an important one.
Speaker 5 (01:11):
You know.
Speaker 6 (01:12):
What I reflected on last night was last week.
Speaker 4 (01:15):
John In one of his first answers of his Wednesday
press conference, the head coach talked about adversity. His team
hadn't faced any really other than the rain delay against
the Panthers, so he was curious how his team was
going to handle adversity. I thought they handled adversity well.
Right after Burrows scores the touchdown to tie the game
at seven, Jacks go right back down the field.
Speaker 6 (01:33):
After they tie the game.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
In the third quarter, Jags get an interception and they
scored and take the lead again. It was just they
handled adversity fine. What they didn't hind it very well
was prosperity. Devin Lloyd gave them an opportunity with about
five minutes left to play to seal the deal, to
slam the door shut to grab the win, and they
couldn't take advantage in the red.
Speaker 6 (01:52):
Zone and goal to go.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
And that's the missed opportunity that I think I feel
the most this morning.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
Yeah. Look, I always trying to look at the big
picture and sometimes overlook the small picture. And the small
picture was that it was a gut wrenching loss. And
I thought Dewey said it best when it was like
it was like dang, dang, and you just felt like
it was there. I think the spine of what this
team is doing is really good. I thought they overcame adversity,
the offensive line, the running game. You see how they're
(02:20):
gonna do it, and it seems very sustainable and it's
gonna get a lot better. Some key, key, key mistakes
that you can't have cost them, and that's sometimes what
happens when a team is starting to find its footing
in a new regime. This like ninety six Bryant. I mean,
(02:42):
it's so I think they'll find it, and I think
you're gonna go through some of these early as they
iron out some things.
Speaker 4 (02:48):
And I know there's a lot of concern and most
of it's about Brian Thomas Junior and drop passes. But
to be honest with you, if you look at this
team and the way that they're doing the things that
they want to do, like John dis touched upon, there's
a lot to like.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Let's go to a big thing Number two, which is
players play. We talked about the wide receivers having a
tough day, including Brian Thomas Junior. Trevor Lawrence talked about
that after the game.
Speaker 5 (03:09):
First of all I'd ever want to speak for a
guy in his confidence and where he's at. You know,
I think me and BT have a good relationship and
we do communicate, and you know that's just something where
you know, I gotta be better for him and vice versa,
like we got to help each other out. You know,
I got a there's a couple of plays a day
where I can give him a chance down the field
where I did it. I know there's obviously a couple
of plays that he can make too, And if he
(03:30):
tell you the same thing, So we got to we're
both We're all in it together. It's a team sport.
That's a beautiful thing about it is no one's out
there by themselves.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
So Brian Thomas Junior didn't look like the Brian Thomas
junior we saw last year this Sunday, Brian, how do
they fix this?
Speaker 3 (03:45):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
I mean, that's the area of great concern this morning,
because this was a guy that you counted on. In fact,
I think I've said on this show a couple of
times he's the best player on this roster based on
what he did last year. But John, right now, he's
not playing like that and they've got to figure that out.
I think it may be as simple as if you
fix what ailes Brian Thomas Junior right now, you fix
the team. You put yourself in a position to make
(04:06):
more plays and extend drives and score touchdowns, and you're
not in a close game like that late and putting
yourself in a position to make mistakes like they did.
Speaker 6 (04:16):
You fix Brian Thomas.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
And again, I don't know how you do that, but
if you get that righted, you will be in a
good position.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
Let's go to our final big thing today, which is
going to be giveaways. As there were some turnovers for
the Dagons through some interceptions and also just a lot
of penalties. We thought kind of illegal shifts in the
game head with me and Colleens discussed what that was about.
Speaker 7 (04:37):
Yeah, I mean first like you guys kind of alluded
to it during the week first time on the road
Silent Cadence, we had some motions and shifts in the
offense in order to take advantage of you know, ninety
one and try to help with ninety one in some ways,
you know, maybe looking at it, we got to go
evaluate did we have too much in the game plan for.
Speaker 6 (04:57):
These guys to go execute.
Speaker 7 (04:58):
So that's something that we you have to be better
at his coaches to go figure out.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
John.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
I think we saw five or six illegal shifts in
that game, talking about trying to deal with Trey Hendrickson
a lot of motion for the wide receivers. That was
something we stop penalties in week one. None of the
illegal shifts I think were accepted because the players weren't
working out, but still not something you'd like to see.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
Yeah, I think what we saw yesterday was Liam Cohan's offense.
And Liam Cohen can really coach offense and he can
do it at a high level as always saw yesterday,
and he said it, and he's very transparent after losses,
which is good because he helps you understand it probably
gave him a little too much in terms of the motion.
(05:38):
So much of their emotion enables Trevor in the offense
to identify what the defense is going to do once
this entire roster and the offense gets experience in his scheme.
I don't think you'll see it happen very often, but
I do think they are trying to find that sweet
spot of what they can handle now versus what they'll
be able to handle when they're really in experience fine
(06:00):
tune machine. I didn't love the penalties, but once I
heard the explanation, oh, they have stuff that they can
do that this bunch might not be quite ready for yet.
But we'll be said, all right.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
Something to keep an eye on. Stay with us here
on Jagszam. We got a bunch of tape to look
at from the game yesterday in Cincinnati. Teg Man'm brought
to you by UFL, the official healthcare partner of the
Jacksonville Jaguars, also the sponsor for this week's game. Week
(06:34):
three games against the Texans. Welcome back in. There's a
lot of stuff that happened yesterday, so we got a
lot of video to go over, so we're gonna get
right into this. It was nice to see them go
and score on a drive their first possessions, go out
and score. They played from behind a lot last year,
so to see them be it seems like they're gonna
be aggressive, take the ball, kind of go down the field.
(06:54):
Let's take a look at that drive. Let me give
you some good stuff early from them, we treveror you know,
we saw him really focus on the run against the Panthers,
they threw it a lot in this game against the Bengals.
Obviously matchup dependent, but nice to see them out there
kind of looking cohesive, I guess to start the game,
at least from what I.
Speaker 4 (07:13):
Saw Ryn, they looked really sharp and Trevor in particular
had all kinds of time to throw. He was pay
shooting in the pocket and allowed things to develop, and
at least on this early drive, his ball placement was excellent.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
We get that touchdown earlier, which was good to see
there as they took the lead, and then we're gonna
go now a little bit later with we saw obviously
the traded Tanks to the Eagles last week, but that
meant more time for Bacial Tuton, so we got to
see Tutin. Also Parker Washington had a great game yesterday
so as well. There it was nice to see other
(07:47):
people making plays when given the opportunity. We know what Suton,
We've seen tooton and practice. He's a very fast player,
but to see him have that opportunity out there, John
and didn't show it early he had.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
Tutan showed there why they felt comfortable trading Daysty. You
you have to have him on the field on the
screen path. It should have been a four or five
yard game, and he turns it into a seventeen yard
or whatever it was. He turns it into a longer game.
He's really fast, he has great balance. It's going to
be interesting to see how long Travis Etn can hold
(08:20):
him off. And that's not a knock on Travis Atn.
They have two really good running were well.
Speaker 6 (08:23):
I got you're right.
Speaker 4 (08:25):
I got to said yesterday that the two of them
are going to enhance one another's performance because Travis Etn
is not a two hundred and twenty pounds back.
Speaker 6 (08:32):
He takes a beating when he runs in the middle.
Speaker 4 (08:34):
When you have a guy who can put in there
and give him a good solid rest in the middle
of the second quarter, or start him and let Travis
come off the bench once they get the rolls right,
you have a real opportunity for those guys.
Speaker 3 (08:45):
And I probably phrased that wrong. I'm not sure it's
a matter of holding off. I think it's going to
be a two headed monster in the backfield, because that's
really what the NFL is now unless you have a saque.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
Let's take a look at what Burrow and Jamar Chase
were able to get up to while Burrough was in
the game, because obviously they're a dynamic pairing that we're
well aware of. At this point, Jamar Chase is going
to get him no matter what kind.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
Of game it is.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
But he was impressive to watch the savior.
Speaker 4 (09:09):
You know, I don't know if you're going to show
it later, but the screen passed down the Bengals sideline
where it had three defenders on him. How he got
free just shows you what a special player he is.
And Joe Burrow was in traffic and just fired that ball.
It didn't appear he could even see him, but he
knew where he was going to be. He's the best
for a reasoning. No one had more receptions, more yards,
(09:30):
and more touchdowns than he did last year.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
Yeah, and I'm talking about the Jaguars receivers later, and
I don't want to turn this into a show where
you just kill that position group. But you saw the
difference in an offense that knew it could go through
as won and knew it could rely on that, and
knew that it had that to depend on. And right
now the Jaguars can't depend on their wide receivers. Yesterday
(09:53):
they couldn't, and I thought it was a difference in
the game.
Speaker 4 (09:55):
I think all of us expect BTJ to be able
to rise towards that level. I don't know if you
ever say to get to Jamar Chase's level, Kai, let
you rise towards that level, and we haven't seen.
Speaker 6 (10:04):
It in two weeks.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
Tak gonna look at the running backs. ETN had a
big run and then Tuton's touchdown his first of his
NFL career. We talked about what Tuit is gonna bring
to this offense, but also it's given I feel like
Travis DTN has enjoyed Leon Cohen's new offense and the
ability for him to contribute in different ways right where
there's the screen game, whatever it might be, to end
rounds with him, it's exciting to see Travis utilizing different
(10:28):
ways just over the years he's been here. Too many
keep people up now.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
Well, back's enjoy when they can run twenty five yards
without being touched, and that's how I thank you guys
like that. But I mean we were talking for the show.
Liam Cohen can really coach the run and the amount
of yards that they get before contact is so much
different than it's been here in the past. It actually
takes them getting used to feeling like, Okay, this is
(10:55):
what they're gonna be right And so to me, we're
seeing in the running game from these two backs in
the line. That's the foundation he's grining that. I think they're
going to be able to build going forward.
Speaker 6 (11:07):
And don't forget the wide receivers.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
We saw on the play the twenty five yard play
up the sideline by ETN there's Brian Thomas out there.
So people are questioning him today obviously for the drops,
but in that sequence he was down the field blocking
creating space. So the wide receivers have been key contributors.
And of course sleep Cohen cent during training camp they better.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
Be Yeah, they've really bought into that. I'm sure it's
because he made him buy into. But nonetheless, the results
are there.
Speaker 1 (11:33):
The buian is good. Joe Burrow went down with an
injury in the second quarter and never want to see that.
Looks like it might be turf toe, which depending on
whether it's surgical or not, he could be out for
a month. He did leave this football game, but it
was part of a sack from Eric Armstead. Wasn't on
the foot that he injured, but it was nice to
see some of the pressure that the defensive line and
the ed rushers were getting.
Speaker 6 (11:54):
They were getting after Burrow.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
I mean he got hit a bunch of times and
the pocket was collapsing all around him. I don't know
how the game would have turned out had he stayed
in it, but you got the sense to the jag
Wards who really geared up defensively to take on Burrow.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
Yeah. Look, I thot Liam said it best after the game.
They gave up thirty one, But I'm not sure this
defense this year is ready to be a defense that
only gives up ten points a game. They had three sacks,
they had three picks, they had the pick. I'm talking
about that later with den Lloyd. I'm sure they made
(12:29):
the play. They broke serve enough, as I like to say,
for this team to win. And I don't think Liam
on the team playing last night, was thinking, boy, the
defense didn't hold up for us.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
No, especially against a team that you know can score
that well.
Speaker 3 (12:42):
I mean, you have those receivers, you're gonna score well.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
Lit's see if you take away the fifteen play drive
at the end, you think in the defense played pretty
darn well.
Speaker 1 (12:47):
Sure, let's take a look at Trevor's second interception. He
had an early interception in the end zone. This was
his second interception of the day. Yeah, I was one
one to Brian Compstonior over the middle. It's a frustrating
situation because I think people have expectations of Ran Thoms Junior,
which are fair based off what you've seen from last year.
(13:09):
It is important for us to remember that trust needs
to go both ways on with a quarterback wide receiver relationship.
And a lot of his success was with Mac Jones
last year. I harp back to that because I'm like,
why isn't it looking the same, And I'm like, well,
maybe it wasn't as as much of a success came
with Trevor as it came with Mac Jones. So getting
that together and I don't know if that's not trusting
(13:32):
going over the middle for him, if that's just a
quarterback thing, if that's his own thing, but that's a
play that you probably expect an NFL wide receiver to make.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
I think we can all imagine that there's going to
be a conversation today involving Brian the head coach, maybe
Edgar Bennett, the receiver's coach, and that play is going
to be shown and there's going to be a conversation
about it. It's been the topic of conversation since it
happened last night. It's a tough question to ask. It's
a harder question to answer. I don't have the answer
for other than to say, that's your one and he's
(14:04):
got to play like it.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
Yeah, I mean stopped on the route.
Speaker 6 (14:07):
Yeah, Now there were two defenders bearing down on him.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
There's the debate to Trevor throwing it there. I'm a
believer that the receiver has to go get the ball there,
but I'm not the guy doing that.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
So also true, Let's look ahead, Jamar Chase, the Tinsley touchdown,
some impressive play. I think coach Cohen talked a little
bit about this late. I don't know if this is
let's look oh yeah, so Jamar Chase catch and then
the Tinsley touchdown. I think Jarian was in coverage for
that one.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
Great catch. I mean it was it was catch.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
That one was hard to even be.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
They have great receivers and they were going to make
some plays and this, uh.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
Because that's the guy you give one on one, right, Yeah.
T Higgins, You're like, oh, this will be fine.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
Great catching probably could have covered him better, but it
was probably nine point five out of ten coverage. So
they're gonna make plays. And like I said earlier, the
NFL right now is about getting turnovers and making plays
in the moments, and forcing three turnovers should have been
enough to win that game.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
Let's look at one of the other turnovers. Do we
got an interception? He had one in sleep one that
was called back with the penalty. Eric Murray also had
an interception earlier. But do we flying in here?
Speaker 3 (15:28):
John?
Speaker 1 (15:28):
I think he said he looked kind of like Travis Hunter.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
Wi can I dive? I was looking down and when
I looked up for a moment, all I saw was
the two and I thought, well, there's that body control
we heard about Travis Hunter and it was due so
now great read it's it's the kind of play this
kid makes. It's why he's in the field. He's smart.
(15:51):
So a good friends last which room it had been.
Speaker 4 (15:54):
In and win in Week one? It was an underhand
toss essentially to him like here, get it. The degree
of difficulty for him running back that direction to reach
up and pull it, and then they have the wherewithal
to get up and turn right back up the field. Listening,
I felt like he might get one because he got
robbed of thee in Week one.
Speaker 6 (16:14):
He is somebody who is an incredible.
Speaker 4 (16:18):
Addition to this defense because last year the safety plays
we all know he was horrendous and he's made a
big difference on there.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
A couple of smart safeties back.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
There, Eric Murray as well. Absolutely, let's take a look
at T Higgins touchdown tied up the game at the time.
This was a tough one for Tyson Campbell because when
you're one on one with some of these guys' that's
a tough matchup. Wo when Doom comes in late as well,
trying to make the attack when they run into each other. Yeah,
and for them to go into score. I think William
Cohan talked post came a little bit about trying to
(16:47):
disguise some things do look not just straight one on
one because their wide receiver course probably the best they're
going to face all year, and that's a tough matchup
for anybody.
Speaker 3 (16:54):
They said that was the one time they put a
single on T. Higgins and he said that was mistake.
You don't always call every play perfectly. Say Cam called
a great game on that one. It sounded like if
they had to do over again, they would be in zone.
Speaker 4 (17:08):
Well he's a one, right, I mean, I know he's
number two in Cincinnati, but he's six' five and with
the speed once he gets that step on, you with
the with the reach that he has and.
Speaker 6 (17:17):
The leaping, ability if the third team quarterback could have thrown.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
That touchdown toward, them all, right to take a look
at this kind of red zone sequence where they were
unable to score because they made. It Brian Thomas junior
had some Drops we've discussed, that we'll see that, here
but Also Dianmy brown had a drop touchdown in this
six in this series as. Well that would Get field
the game as. Well so you got TO i mean
(17:42):
as much more pointing the finger Of brian. There there's
a lot of blame to go. Around i'll get into that,
later but there's a lot of people that could have
stepped up that didn't do it at a certain.
Speaker 6 (17:50):
Times that's a question it should, be and that's that's a.
Speaker 4 (17:54):
Touchdown Then trevor has four touchdowns on the, day and
we're talking about him in more. Gloss then people are
talking about him.
Speaker 1 (18:02):
Today, YEAH i don't know if we have a time
to say about, it if they're just drops and they're just.
Speaker 3 (18:10):
Mistakes well on that, ONE i Mean i'll point outcause
people are watching, this so we got to say. It
it was the same story as first, Test so you
have to be able to go catch the ball in
traffic in this.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
Leap, Yes Devin lloyd had an interception late which also
felt like a gift and looked like he might make
it into the end zone but kind of roll over,
guys knee down and then they called him. Down but
that felt like Another, okay now we can feel it.
Speaker 3 (18:37):
Up i'm all. Rephrasing i'm not. Sure i'm not sure
as he was, Now, yeah it wasn't sure, either Whistled
Devin boid also wasn't, down as my next teacher. Exactly
but now it's a hard call for the official to
make because your instinct as an official as you see
that and it's down because he went to the, Ground
(18:58):
BUT i don't think he was down and she had
been a. TOUCHDOWN i think any coach and any player
on this team would say we had the ball on a. Twelve,
yeah we got to score, right but it took away
what a, really really nice play By Devin, lloyd by the,
way who's been criticized a, lot and a nice play
By Devin.
Speaker 4 (19:17):
Lloyd, well and, listen that was WHAT i was talking
about off the top of the show about. PROSPERITY i,
mean you have the ball at the twelve yard, line
called what everyone killer. Instinct you got to slam the
door right. There you've got to be in the huddled and,
say no matter, what we're going forward and we're going
to get a touchdown and the game is over right.
Speaker 6 (19:32):
There and of course he lose four on first down and.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
The throw AND i talked To jeff log him in
this morning and he said that was the throw To
Brian thomas was just.
Speaker 6 (19:40):
Fine he should have caught.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
IT i totally agreed with the coaches conversation to Have
trevor throw that ball because at the very least you've
got him pinned deep at the. Most throwing it to number,
one you figure you'd get a first down and the game's.
Speaker 3 (19:52):
Over, oh that play has been. DEBATE i, mean and
the ozone a. Mailbag, OH i didn't kick the field. Goal,
LOOK i would have kicked the field goal Because i'm
fifty nine years old AND i grew up watching THE
nfl in the. Sevenies new SCHOOL nfl tells you that
the odds are the team can go get a touchdown
and you sleep. Down it is a touchdown high scoring.
League so for fans WHO i got one Email, SANDE
(20:15):
i hope you learned his. Lesson that's what they're gonna.
Do oh, yeah this is what they, are and so buckle.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
UP i was Finally i'm going for. IT i would
have liked some run. MORE i feel we got a
little way from the run and maybe when you're having
some drops as, well that might be a good time
because they hadn't stopped the run to that. Point so for,
ME i would have enjoyed a little. More this is
running in and running football.
Speaker 6 (20:35):
Team we're not wrong.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
From What i've, seen SO i would like to see.
That we'll talk about The bengals last. Drive they called
a passing experience on On Travis hunter there on that
Last bengals, drive which again we don't blame anything on the,
referees but that was a tough. One maybe rookies don't
get that, call but that was a tough.
Speaker 6 (20:53):
Call if you see it to.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
Give them twenty five yards and kind of get them.
Speaker 4 (20:56):
Going the receiver's falling down on his own, accord and
the official is looking back towards.
Speaker 6 (21:01):
It and he must have just, thought, well he hadn't been.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
PUSHED i rarely fans get very frustrated with me because
people thought about Fish an all the. TIME i don't
talk about. IT i would like to have somebody tell
me What Travis hunter did wrong on that, playoff because
it looked to me like coverage and even turn around
went for the. Wall there's no face guarding in this,
league SO i think on that one bang bang plays
(21:27):
sometimes don't go your. Way BUT i again in the,
Mailbag Travis hunter has been taking some feat for. THAT
i don't know that he deserves heat for.
Speaker 4 (21:36):
That what if the official and they wouldn't be because
they have a position they're.
Speaker 6 (21:40):
Supposed to be.
Speaker 4 (21:40):
In but if the official had been on the other
side of the, play the back side of that, place
there's no chance that he throws that because he would
have seen the guy going down on his.
Speaker 6 (21:47):
Own it's a.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
Tough, one and then it kind of led to, this
since the rest of this, drive it's a big chunk
play twenty five yards to think to get them, going
and then quarterbacks meets with just a couple of seconds
left in the. Game bengals took their first lead and
they won the game.
Speaker 3 (22:02):
Late so it's hard in THE nfl when you have
a fourth down and you stop them and that gets
taken away or and that doesn't. Happen second stops are.
HARD i, mean once you don't get, it you always
kind of feel, like, oh that was their, shot because
it's a league gear doort.
Speaker 4 (22:23):
OFFICE i THINK i wrote In Quick thoughts last week
that you can play well and Give Joe burrow just
the sliver of an. Opportunity you play well for fifty nine,
minutes and all of a sudden he can beat. You
so this Morning i'm, WONDERING i Guess Jake brownie could
beat you in, seconds yeahs or fifty nine minutes in
the final minute as.
Speaker 3 (22:39):
Well. Oh people talk About burrow so, much AND i do.
TOO i love the, GUYS i love the way the guy.
Plays SOMETIMES i think you talk About burrow so much
that you forget they have the best wide receiver combination
of THE. Nfl and when you have that level it
that level of receiver cannaliate a.
Speaker 4 (22:55):
Quarterback, well that's why you go for it on fourth
down inside the you, know the ten yard, line like
they did because they understood the field goal doesn't protect
them from losing the ball game by.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
One we're gonna get it or stay with. Us we've
got hot takes for you coming up after the break.
Day damn hot takes brought to you By Firehouse ups.
Speaker 3 (23:25):
Nah.
Speaker 8 (23:25):
Man that THAT btj man' that's Somebody i'm not worried.
ABOUT i feel like he know who he, is and
he knows he knows who he, is AND i feel
like he's here for a. REASON i feel like nobody
in locker room have trouble with, confidence like were playing
football whole, Lives like we don't get to this point
and lose. Ourselves SO i feel like we had an
utmost confidence IN btj and three round with him to
(23:46):
the whist fall OFF bpn talking.
Speaker 1 (23:48):
About Brian Thomas junior's, confidence he.
Speaker 6 (23:51):
Didn't go down a locker to give him that.
Speaker 1 (23:53):
SPEAK i THINK i think that probably is taking. PLACE
i know Et n's had a lot of. Situations we
think About game one last, year fumble at the goal.
LINE i trust his understanding of being under that kind
of pressure and kind of dealing with. That SO i
think that would be a great resource actually to kind
of talk about. That that's some hot takes for you
On monday From Firehouse. Subs, So, brian what is your hot?
Speaker 4 (24:16):
Take keep on, Running keep on, Running AND i want
to use one, Play BUT i want to be, Clear
i'm not criticizing play.
Speaker 6 (24:22):
Calling that's low hanging.
Speaker 4 (24:23):
FRUIT i rarely do, it So i'm not saying that
they should have done something completely, WELL i GUESS i
am saying they should have run the ball in the.
Situation but they got the ball at the twelve yard
line with about ten and a half minutes to, play
and they were up twenty seven to twenty, four and
they were just driving The bengals off the line of
scrimmage and they.
Speaker 6 (24:40):
Got to about the forty yard.
Speaker 4 (24:41):
Line you got a four yard toot and run and
a four yard toot and run AND i think it
was at the forty seven and it was third down and.
Speaker 6 (24:47):
Two here's my hot.
Speaker 4 (24:49):
Take just keep running the football there because As john
talked About Liam, cohen he's really good at getting the
running game going and you driving them off the ball
just keep, going let it be run.
Speaker 6 (25:05):
First AND i would not have said this in recent
years they've been terrible on third down and. Two BUT
i have such confidence in their.
Speaker 4 (25:11):
Short yardage ability in just two weeks With Liam cohen
and this new. System at that, moment it felt like
you get that first down and you drive down the
field and you chew up a couple more minutes o'clock
and you get another. Score, again it's not as much
play calling as. MENTALITY i want to see him have.
That it's third and, two we're lining up almost, say
(25:32):
we're running right here by the way seven stop.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
US i get, it AND i disagree With. Philosophically you
get that, run and you know that you've got the
defense in a position you have set it up to
where these passes that you've worked on to get in
this situation ought to be right. There but it's like
you said at the, top that's why when you're talking
(25:54):
about play, calling it's so, hard because if it, works it's.
Great if it's, not it.
Speaker 6 (25:57):
Does but just a critique of.
Speaker 4 (26:00):
It Though i'm, everyone may seem like a critique Because
Brian Thomas junior dropped, it maybe catches, it you, know
Maybe i'm not saying. Anything it just felt like in that, moment,
philosophically ye that this team has in a very short
period of, Time kai has got the mentality to convert
those third down plays that we've been talking about.
Speaker 3 (26:18):
Since twenty twenty, three WHICH i, think big picture is
an unbelievable thing, because LIKE i said at the, top to,
me what we're talking about with the running, game that's
the spine that you're gonna build this. Thing i'm going
forward and it's been impressive so.
Speaker 1 (26:29):
Far, Yep, john what's your hot take for? Us and
then we touched on a little.
Speaker 3 (26:32):
Bit, well, yeah And i'll be short because we've talked
about so, much but the receiver thing needs to be
a one off because this is A, SportsCenter big play league,
now and when you get in the, position you work
the whole game to get in position for what six
(26:52):
or seven big, moments and they got in those positions
and despite the interceptions in the first abs by whatever
went wrong the twenty seven twenty four with a chance
to go thirty four to twenty, four and the receivers
that you thought in training CAMP i would have said
was maybe your best one to you, know in the
(27:12):
conversation for this position group didn't play like it except for.
Eleven so eleven needs to. Play he.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
Does he's definitely earned a spot on the, field AND
i think just to couch it a little bit is
Where i'm going with mine Is Brian tompsunior had a bad.
DAY i Think Sammy brown had some things that he
could have done much better as a wide. Receiver but
this isn't a point your finger. SITUATION i don't think
that's the only reason they lost that football. Game this
is still a brand new coaching, staff still a brand
new front. Office there's a lot of new players on this,
(27:42):
team AND i think everybody needs to step up and
be a little bit better at what they're doing in
terms of, consistency and we saw a lot of great
things like this is not the teams of last season
where we were completely outmatched and you felt like maybe
you lost an opportunity because you caught a good team
on a bad. Day this is a good. Team they
just need to be more consistent all, around AND i
think that includes. Everybody you. Know when you're talking about
(28:03):
maybe run the ball, MORE i think there are certain
points of that, game especially when you have a lead,
late let's run it a little. Bit they haven't stopped,
it so why aren't you doing especially if you feel
your wide receivers aren't making the catches you.
Speaker 6 (28:11):
Want the rankings aren't out yet for this.
Speaker 4 (28:14):
WEEK i hadn't seen them this, morning BUT i imagine The
jaguars are top, three top top five at least in
terms of yard per carry average and maybe you, know
yards per game.
Speaker 3 (28:24):
Established AND i assume they'll be there in. Takeaway so
when you think about, it if you had said before the,
season if at the end of this season this team
is as good running and taking the ball away as
they've been in the first two, games they'll be in the.
Playoffs you.
Speaker 4 (28:40):
Know liam said in one of his post game sound
bites that they were going to go in the look
he was about all those. Shifts you ran it off
the top and look at what they put in the
game plan and see if they didn't have too much in.
Speaker 6 (28:51):
THERE i fully.
Speaker 4 (28:52):
Expect that he's going to go and look at just
at this that we're talking about now and see it as.
Well he is radically. Transparent he is amazing to listen.
To after a, game he tells you exactly what he
saw what he's. THINKING i, man they got something in.
Speaker 3 (29:07):
Him and importantly that translates if he's talking with the
public that. Way clarity and clearness of message and clearness of.
Goal he's told me that to the, players And i've
said it last couple of. Weeks you never know the head.
COACH i knew he. WAS i knew he was an
unbelievable offensive. Mind he can really lead to and that
(29:29):
votes really.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
Well say, well we'll tell you what's coming up the
rest of the week here and h coming back.
Speaker 3 (29:34):
To Bank DAGs.
Speaker 1 (29:45):
Fan if you want to customiz Dag warts furniture for your,
home check got zip cheer dot com about all the customizable.
Options zip chair is furniture for.
Speaker 3 (29:51):
Fans that was just one throw.
Speaker 5 (29:55):
Out was.
Speaker 6 (29:55):
Pissed you, know it is what it.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
Is you, know it's not that's.
Speaker 6 (29:59):
Emotion it's not personal.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
Ever you, know that's just kind of me getting worked.
Up so he threw a dime in the back of
the end. Zone we don't make a, play you.
Speaker 6 (30:11):
Know he.
Speaker 7 (30:11):
WAS i was very pleased with his competitive, nature the
ways they'd come on the sidelines that he doesn't.
Speaker 3 (30:18):
Get you, know he's pretty even, keel which is.
Speaker 6 (30:21):
Good for.
Speaker 5 (30:22):
ME i need that.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
Especially I'm collin Says Trevor lawrence is pretty even, heal
which is good for. Him they're getting after each. Other
we're talking about how honesty is after the, game but
they're getting after each other in the, game which is
kind of nice to see.
Speaker 6 (30:34):
Him i'm okay with.
Speaker 4 (30:34):
It WHEN i saw, IT i THOUGHT i was reminded
of The Super bowl When Travis kelcey got In Andy reid's,
space right and read it's the reverse of this situation.
Speaker 6 (30:43):
Where he was just relaxed and he didn't let anything
get to. Him it's a game of.
Speaker 4 (30:46):
Emotion there's no issue at all in my mind of,
this AND i love the fact That trevor's personality is
completely different Than liam's and they play off of each.
Speaker 6 (30:56):
OTHER i love the.
Speaker 3 (30:58):
Answer, OKAY i covered The hoos for ten. YEARS i
Saw peyton wave the defense off the field multiple. Times it's.
COMPETITIVE i saw him And Reggie wayne get into it,
right and they couldn't be. Tighter it's an emotional game
on the, sidelines AND i Think liam would tell, YOU
i don't think he wants to coach a guy who
doesn't have that.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
Animal, yeah, yeah you both have to want, it and
you both have to be, competitive AND i think that's
what we're. SEEING i THINK i don't want fans to
make too much of, it as the point is because
they both talked about it after AND i think they
both enjoy that they both approach it the way that
they do because it's very complimentary to each.
Speaker 6 (31:32):
Other that's the right, word.
Speaker 1 (31:34):
Complimentary coming up this week obviously a lot of changes
to be. Made First divisional game of the. Season The
texans are coming back to.
Speaker 6 (31:41):
Town jaguars have lost three or four AGAINST. Cj.
Speaker 4 (31:45):
Stroud and here's the interesting. Part in the last, three
right the one that The jags won In houston in
twenty twenty three and these two that they lost last,
Year stratt has not turned the ball. Over jaguars have
created turnovers all of a. Sudden they have six in two,
games whereas they had nine in seventeen last. Year SO
(32:06):
i am gonna be. Watching can they force? Turnovers can
they make C. J stroud make?
Speaker 3 (32:11):
Mistakes if you like, competitive, physical, tough not backing, down
that's gonna be emphasize this.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
Week, yeah absolutely say with. Us we'll be back to
jagsam On wednesday for you as we start looking ahead
to the weekly matchup against The texans
