Homes and now a guy living in his own personal
Amen corner, Jay P.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Chackick, and welcome in.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
It is Jaguars Happy Hour on this Thursday, April tenth.
We've got a busy hour ahead. The off season program
is underway. Players are here. They're running and jumping and
lifting and moving and doing some not even really football
things yet a lot of culture building going on around here.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
Liam Cohen spoke with the media yesterday.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
We'll hear some of his comments from the Jaguars, said coach,
as did Trevor Lawrence, Jaguars quarterback and Foyer Luk and
Jaguars linebacker will have the comments both of those guys
coming up shortly. Jaguars Happy Hour is presented by dream
Finders Homes, official homebuilder of the Jacksonville Jaguars, on Tintin
x l a, M, Jaguars dot Com, Jaguars YouTube, All
(01:07):
the Places. JP Shadwick with Jeff Logoman. Good afternoon, Jebs afternoon, JP.
Oh are you I'm doing good? Since last week?
Speaker 1 (01:17):
You have been a while right in a minute.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
Yeah, been six days, yeah or so almost. How many
hours is that? I don't know, math I was told
there would be none today. It's been a while, No,
it's uh, it's been a good week though since the
last time I saw you.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Going on there is a lot actually something going on
is well.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
I figured there was something going on when I when
my phone started to ring and uh serious, XM NFL
radio wanted to do some interviews. Ah, you want to
talk a little bit about Jaguars.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
What were they interested in?
Speaker 3 (01:49):
So I got, you know, just about the the general
vibe of the new regime, the structure of the new regime,
how everybody's going to fit together, what does that mean
for I mean all those kind of things.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
People just want to know.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
It's football, and when teams start the OTAs, it creates
more football news. And I know as a player, it's
kind of like the first day back to school, you know.
I mean you get to see the guys you haven't
seen in a while, get to hang out together a
little bit, get to compete a little.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Bit in the weight room. It's good stuff. Some new
teachers for the class.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
Well, and that's the most important thing because I mean
it's a you know, when you walk in a billion
everybody's kind of coming in renewed, refreshed, and on top
of that with a blank slate.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
So to speak. Yes, absolutely, And.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
What I mean by that is that you hout now
have a new set of eyes that it's going to
be evaluating you and where you're at and whatever eyes
looked at you in the past, and their opinion doesn't matter.
So the film kind of speaks a little bit for
the opinions to be shaped on the people that are
(03:00):
now in the building, But a lot of times they
have that as a reference, but they don't turn to
it as the gospel. You have to create your own now,
and that's the way it should be. And I think
that that's the exciting part. And I think it's a
little nerve racking for some guys because they don't know
(03:20):
where they stand.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
That's what it is.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Part of the deal. Though it's football. It means you've
got to prove yourself every day. You're only as good
as your last game on tape. Well, I mean the
reality is, I mean, there's you can kind of prove it,
but at the end of the day, you're really not
proving it. Until you're getting back on the grass in
front of a big fan base and lights are.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
On or not on if it's one o'clock kick, You
know that type situation.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
Part of it for a new coaching staff, of course,
is establishing the culture how you want to operate it.
That's the interesting part to me. Day after day you
do that well. We heard from Liam Cohen, oddly enough,
yesterday he spoke with the media. Okay, it was a
big topic of conversation. We know is acronym fast to
talk about the mentality he wants around the team stands
(04:08):
for fundamentally sound, attacking, situational masters and tough both mentally
and physically. The toughness part is one of the things
he was asked about. How do you establish that this
time of year.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
I know that this is not a physical time, it
can't be and it isn't. But the establishing of the mindset,
the way that we're going to do things, the way
that we want the meetings, like coach Camp brought up today,
our meetings should be tough, right, Like we're learning new information.
It's all very new for everybody. That's hard. It's hard
(04:42):
to do for a coach, for a player, it's hard
to learn. So when you do hard things and you
come out on the other end, usually you say, well
I got tougher from that, all.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
Right, that's this time of year toughness, right, And then
it becomes once you start on the field, situational, you know,
actually moving people around and changing the way this football
team operates.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Well.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
For first, a little explanationary, says coach camp and I'm
assuming that's coach Anthony Campinelli, the defensive coordinator. Correct, And
it is tough for some guys to learn a new
system because some guys have been in the system for
a long period of time and kind of that lingo,
that language is ingrained in their head and you've got
to kind of wipe it clean and start fresh and
(05:26):
start new. I don't know if I'd necessarily say that
it's hard to learn football. It's kind of football, and
football's not necessarily that hard. Now, let me correct myself here.
If you're a quarterback and you're learning the offense, I mean, yeah,
for a third time in what five years in the league,
(05:48):
Holy cow, And Trevor hasn't had the opportunity to probably
learn much of the offense yet. So this is going
to be a tough, challenging time for Trevor to kind
of digest that offense and to be able to speak
the language as fast as possible, because he's the leader
of the ship on the field and he's got to
(06:09):
be able to communicate that language. And until you get
your quarterback to be able to speak that language, it's
probably going to be more difficult. So that I think
is imperative to get started and get rolling quickly. Another
part of this time of the year, of course, it's phase
one of the offseason program. That means strength and conditioning.
Only very limited amount of time each day the players
(06:30):
can be in the building and even less of time
they can actually be on the field only with strength
and conditioning coaches. That whole staff is new as well,
and Liam Cohen asked how they get established in the
weight room.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
There's no pre existing you know, just thoughts about anybody.
It's just hey man, this is how we're doing it.
These are the things that we're going to do while
also gearing it towards at some point here individual development
plans for each player. So as we go, we're setting
the standards in the weight room how we want to
operate skills will lift this way, the big big skill
(07:07):
here and the bigs, well, they all have different weights
and things that they're doing, but the mode of operation,
the standard, the communication will all be similar. So I
think it's actually great that they are starting from scratch
and having those relationships be able to be fostered, and
then as we grow get to know each other a
little bit more, those IDPs will become a little bit
(07:28):
more common.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
It's all new, especially down in the weight room, and
that they're the only coaches on staff that can be
out on the field with the players this time of year. Yeah,
and that's for general conditioning stuff and no football stuff whatsoever.
But kind of funny story with Leave's talking about the
strength and conditioning aspect. You know, guys, different guys, players
(07:51):
use different weights. You know, they have a custom tailored
to the individual, which you know kind of position group wise. Right,
I'll never forget, you know, going back to the very
first year of the organization in nineteen ninety five and
we had our strength and conditioning coach was Jerry Paul
Mario and Jerry's great love them, great guy, uh soldier
(08:15):
all the way Jaguars strength coach, the original one loved them, right, Okay,
so JP just thinking out loud here, Okay, if I've
got offensive lineman, yeah, okay, over here doing squats and
hang cleans. Do I want Trevor Lawrence or Mark Burnell
(08:39):
doing squats or hank cleans?
Speaker 1 (08:42):
Probably not to that effect of what those guys are doing.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Well, No, I don't want my quarterback doing a hand
clean or squats.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
Squat's now.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
I mean then if you're a running quarterback these days,
Jalen Hurts probably does some squat well. I mean, look
that's Jalen Hurts, you know. But I mean and I'm
okay with squats, and he controlled.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
Weight, you know, so you get sure very strict. This
guy was making Brunell do squats today clean I'm.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
Telling you Brunell hurt his back. I think it was
in ninety five.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Because he was doing hand cleans. Come and I was like,
what are we doing?
Speaker 3 (09:14):
Why don't we have our quarterback doing hand cleans? You know,
hand cleans you kind of get the weight right below
your knees and then you snatch it and then you
fold your forearms up under the weight and you know,
puts a lot of pressure on your wrists.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
You kind of need those check.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
I mean, look, that's a million dollar risk that we're
doing hand cleans with What are we doing Jerry? And
he ended up getting I can't remember if it was
a back or something something. He got hurt and then
it all changed. Mark wasn't doing hand cleans anymore after that.
But I was sitting there thinking looking at marking the
(09:52):
weight room doing hand cleans and squats and all this stuff,
and I was like, what are we doing? I mean,
do we really want our starting quarterback or potential starting
quarterback because the starting quarterback at that time was going
to be Burlin Steve Barline Burline. But yeah, it was uh,
it was a bit of a mess. But but we
dialed it in a little bit better later on. And
by the way, I mean, but that was part of
(10:14):
the culture building process with Caulflin. Okay, now we all
are gonna work, everybody's we all are gonna work, but
you have to work smart. You can't just all work
the same. It just doesn't work because position groups are different.
And by the way, I mean, since nineteen ninety five,
I don't have to tell you or anybody, I mean,
technology has changed too, and the way they take time
(10:35):
track and change and miles per hour and GPS and
everything in the conditioning phase of this diet analysis, die composition.
The technology that is in sports recovery, I mean, it's
just completely different, not even close to what it was
in ninety five. And we didn't have cryo chambers. We
(10:57):
didn't have what's that thing, the thing you can sleep
in it's like a hyperbar chamber. We didn't have have Hell,
we had to have trash cans for an ice tub
back in ninety five.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
Now they have.
Speaker 3 (11:09):
Cold tubs, hot tub cold that uh that you know,
you ask the players, not the p N. We had
that violated one time. I will I will name I
will still around. Uh yeah you might be Yeah, yeah,
we had. That was one of the funniest moments ever.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
I don't even want his story.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
I mean, well, I'm not gonna not gonna call them out.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
I mean, how did you find out anyway? So we
had I mean, I don't even want to know you knew. Okay,
here's the story.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
So we're in the cold tub, which this cold tub
was like a hot tub, right, you stand in cold
but it's cold, and uh, we're all just sitting in
there and look The real thumb is, Look, don't come
in there naked.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
Nobody wants to see you. No, it's fair.
Speaker 3 (11:56):
Okay, take a shower before you get in, so we
don't dirty the cold tub. Okay, it's not a it's
not a bathtub.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
It's a cold tub.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
So we're all sitting in there, and all of a sudden,
I look over and there's a yellow cloud around this guy.
Bit I swear, kid you not. I mean I'm talking.
He must have been really dehydrated, because it was a
dark yellow cloud. And I turn and look and I said, hey,
so and so are you kidding me?
Speaker 1 (12:28):
Right?
Speaker 3 (12:29):
And and of course as you exited the pool, I
started immediately calling him out and I told him to
get out. Did you get out?
Speaker 1 (12:45):
Yeah? I got.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
Hang out in or not? Okay, clouds coming my way,
I'm running. I got out. Okay, I'm not going to
hang out in azurine. Sorry, Okay, I don't care how
much chlorine is in there, I'm not.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
Going to be in there.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
So so.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Fast forward a little bit.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
I went to Colfland and I said, look, we have
we have a player that urinated in the cold tub,
and he would like to speak to the team okay,
and so I made him get up in front of
the team and read a prepared speech, kid you not.
(13:29):
And it started out, Hi, my name is so and so,
and I have a urination problem. Really you had to
do it in front of the whole team. Was there
a fine time, No, there was no fine. But he
had to admit what he had done. He had to
admit that he had a problem that he was going.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
To seek all for.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
I wrote a whole speech out for him. I figured that,
you know, doing that was way better than you know,
institute in the kangaroo fine shaming him in front of
his his peers or letting him shame himself in front
of his piers. I mean, if it worked or didn't work,
if I see him coming towards yeah, if I see
him coming towards the ars, I'm out of there.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
No chance. I'm not risking it, trust me.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
He was actually banned from the cold tub for a
period of you stay in your own trash can outsh brutal.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
Yeah, we actually, and we came.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
We came up with a nickname for him, and it
had the word tinkle in it.
Speaker 5 (14:34):
Man.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
Now, if that doesn't sell season tickets, I don't know
what will The.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
New season is right around the corner.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
Get those twenty twenty five season ticket memberships down and
you could be at the bank for every touchdown and
secure your seats at Jaguars dot com slash tickets or
call nine O four six three three two thousand are crying,
he is crying.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
That was funny. It was a funny moment.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
I mean it was you know, it was back in
in the early days, you know, and it was uh yeah, yeah,
it was.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
It was crazy.
Speaker 3 (15:05):
Let's come back and here from the quarterback Trevor Lawrence
spoke with the media yesterday. Some highlights including footwork under
construction on TENENXL, Jaguars dot Com and Jaguars YouTube.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
This is Jaguars Happy Hour.
Speaker 5 (15:30):
I've been here a lot just because of rehab and
stuff and trying to get my shoulder healthy, and so
I've been around this off season a lot more than
maybe even typically, so just to have all the guys
back in the building and just bring some energy and
some juice. And I know from a player standpoint, everybody's excited.
Everybody in the locker room's pumped to me back. And
then you know, the coaching side, you can feel the
(15:51):
energy and the excitement. And those guys are up here
working all off season trying to get everything ready, so
they're chomping at the bit by the time we get
in because they get to actually do what they love
and coach and have the players. So I think there's
a good balance of just everybody's excited and very optimistic
and a lot of energy.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
It's the quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
Welcome back at Jaguars Happy Hour JP Shadwick with Jeff Logoman.
Jaguars Football is presented by Fresh from Florida. It's always
in season. The offseason program underway. We're at the Hyundai
Studios inside the Miller Electric Center of Busy Place with
all the players back in. Now we're on ten ten XL,
Jaguars dot Com and Jaguars YouTube. Coming up, we'll hear
(16:29):
from Foyer, Luik and Jaguars linebacker. But there's a quarterback
and no brace on his left arm. Remember he had
the sling going on after the shoulder stuff going on
this offseason.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
That's a good sign.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
He said he's gonna be in a little bit of
a pitch count some as this offseason goes along.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
There's no real rush.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
I mean, it's a long lay to September, but there
will be a process to really get him back fully
engaged in everything. But the time is not now for that.
But hey, it's good to see him out of that
sling and in good spirits. Moving ahead to this offseason
program in a very important one for him, as we
talked about a minute ago. Learning this offense and the
terminology and everything that goes with it is a challenge. Yeah,
(17:10):
it's it's a lot to digest for for a quarterback,
you know, for like linemen, it's not that hard to
be honest with you about that guy. Yeah, and uh
but uh, you know, first of all, I'm glad that
he was able to rehab here. I mean, I always
believe that the best rehab you can get is with
(17:30):
the team, and this team has a great medical staff
and great medical department in Robbie, who is the rehab specialist.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
Is he's amazing. I've rehabbed with him before. He's simply amazing.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
So they got a great system in place when it
comes to that.
Speaker 1 (17:44):
So good good that he was here.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
And the pitch count thing I think is absolutely a
good thing. I mean, there's I mean, what's the rush, right,
I mean working back in at at a casual rate.
Not casual but at a smart rate, I think is
the better way to describe that. And there's plenty of
time to get them. And the reality is is that
(18:08):
there are a lot of restrictions on the OTAs and
that the pace of the OTA is and what you
can and can't do, and I think a lot of
that is naturally gonna keep that to a controlled I
guess it will be controlled because of what you can
and can't do, you know. But the good thing again
going back to this is that, look, it's a non
(18:28):
throwing shoulder, even though everything affects the throwing motion of
a quarterback, because it's all a balanced thing. But I
expected to be making full recovery and should have no
issues whatsoever moving forward, and that's a real positive. Liam
Cohen yesterday talked a little bit about the work on
Trevor Lawrence's footwork that could be ahead, and then in
(18:51):
Trevor Lawrence's part of the press conference, he was asked
about that and what needs to be done about his
footwork in the pocket.
Speaker 5 (19:00):
The system is built around timing and tying your feet
to your progression and playing on time, and so it
allows you to get backside, allows you to get to
checkdowns or whatever it may be, and you can feel
comfortable playing on time. And more than any system I've
ever learned, it's structured and based on that, and it's
so everything's tied exactly to all right, this route is
on this timing, so then your next progression is off
(19:23):
of this footwork, off this timing, so it all ties
in perfect. You don't have multiple routes declaring at the
same time, which is hard as a quarterback because then
you're sitting back there and you got to make a
decision before really the guys open or covered, you know.
So I think they've done a really good job with
the system of really thinking through how does it tie
into a quarterback's feet, And that's what we've been talking about.
And it takes some work, and you know, flipping my stands,
(19:45):
just some little things like that that are small that
many people wouldn't notice, but it is. I have so
many banked reps of the other way. I got to
just get all these on my own and work them
so once camp comes around, I'm ready to go.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
Everything starts with the foundation, the base for the quarterback. Again,
that's the footwork least everything else. I think there's there's
no date, no doubt, And a lot of times when
you watch a quarterback's feet, a lot of times you
can tell whether or not there's confidence and an understanding
of the system.
Speaker 1 (20:16):
And if the feet.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
Look good, typically the players in a good place mentally.
But then also he's in a good place physically to
be able to get the ball released and be.
Speaker 1 (20:26):
Accurate and on time.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
And and so I like hearing that from Trevor, And
the whole part that I like the most is that
and the thing that I really took from that as
he talked about how your progression there, you've got receivers
that are coming open at different times, so that you
go to him and then if he's not there, then
you're turning to him, and then now he's coming open,
(20:50):
but okay he's not. Then I turn to number three
and now he's supposed to be getting open. So not
everybody's going open at the same time. And like Trevor
was saying there, that you don't have to drop back
and quickly figure out out of those three guys which
one needs to get the ball. Get the ball at
point A because there is only point A to release
the ball, and then after that point it becomes off schedule.
(21:13):
So I mean, I liked hearing that from him because
I mean, I think that's a little bit revealing in
that and what it was versus what it's going to
be for him now with it seems to be a
system that's a little bit more quarterback friendly, and that's
a positive, especially if you get the running game going.
Everything gets more quarterback friendly. I mean, this might be
a question more for Yudensky if we get him in
(21:33):
here at some point, you know, how do you build that?
Like how do you is it a time by the second?
Like how do you know when somebody needs to break?
And how a great question. I'd love to hear that answer.
I hope we can get him in I mean, I
give us the answer. Yeah, maybe not. I'm just curious
how you identify timing right when you're building it off.
(21:53):
And I'm sure you know, what Trevor's alluding to is
not necessarily the case all the time.
Speaker 1 (21:58):
You know, maybe that's some of.
Speaker 3 (21:59):
The plays that they're the progression is with. You know, Okay,
the primary is supposed to get open now and now
the secondary option is going next, and then the third
is going after that. It takes X number of time
to get five yards or whatever that is, right, you know,
and I'm sure that you know what what what Trevor
is doing is slowing it down for us to understand it.
(22:19):
But there are probably split second times between a two
B two C or one two three option.
Speaker 5 (22:27):
You know what.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
I mean.
Speaker 3 (22:28):
He could change with coverage too, right, I mean the
coverage just changing that Okay, we're that throws off the
timing and we're changing.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
That's a lot.
Speaker 3 (22:36):
I'm just I'm looking forward to seeing. I mean, this
is a big year for Trevor.
Speaker 1 (22:40):
I mean it is. It's a big year.
Speaker 3 (22:42):
You know, we got a new contract last year, A
lot invested in them. Now on what I would consider
his second head coach because the first one I don't
I don't even factor that one in because that was
a complete washout with Urban. So this is a big
year for Trevor. And when you're a first overall pick guy,
(23:02):
I mean there's pressure.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
That comes with that, and that's just part of the territory.
Speaker 3 (23:06):
And Trevor's dealt with pressure his whole life. He's you know,
essentially been expected to be the guy and to lead
his team at every level and what she's expected to
do here. And if there's anybody that's built to handle that,
it's him. From a mental standpoint, I've never seen or
listened to a quarterback that can handle it better than him.
(23:27):
He's got a great, great mental makeup and I'm looking
forward to watching him this year under this system, and
then also with some new weapons and some new guys
up front. Let's keep him healthy, right, I mean, that's
just been the catcher kind of goes to the guys
up front. Absolutely, it does. Part of it's him too,
(23:49):
the way he plays in a certain style.
Speaker 1 (23:51):
He's got to protect himself, that's right.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
We go back to the shoulder thing is yeah, I mean,
you know, help yourself out of little bit, right, I mean, so,
and those guys up front need to help him out.
And then and most importantly, I mean the things that
really ring true and in my ears when Liam talked
about at the owner's meeting about we've got to help
(24:15):
him out, We've got we've got to get a running
game going, and that I mean, and it was just
so emphatic and and so resolute the way he said it,
and it's so true because.
Speaker 1 (24:30):
You heard me JP.
Speaker 3 (24:32):
I won't use the one word, but complaining that this this,
they got to be committed to the run more.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
Wonder what word you were thinking of? It starts with
a B and.
Speaker 3 (24:46):
Yeah, right, And part of the problem goes back to
when you wanted to run it?
Speaker 1 (24:57):
Could you run it? No?
Speaker 3 (24:59):
Look look at all the short hearted situations. I mean,
when you're dialing up these magical crazy design plays on
third and one, it means you you can't run the
ball when you need to.
Speaker 1 (25:14):
And the last couple of years.
Speaker 3 (25:18):
You got you got to get better than what they were,
and they will get better.
Speaker 1 (25:21):
They better interior now than they were. Well, I mean,
I don't know. We'll find out, I think, I think,
but you.
Speaker 3 (25:27):
Know, looking until you line up and play some games,
I mean, we'll we'll find out then, you know. And
here's the reality, the the rebuild or the build, whatever
you want to call it of this offensive line is
not nearly complete, you know. Good chance they even get
(25:49):
one on day one. You don't know, but I think
it's going to be interesting to see because you've got
to create competition. I like what they did in Free Age,
seeing that you brought in a guy that can handle
the center job. You've brought in a guy who's played
a lot of Snaps and good Ball and McCarey.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
But you're not done yet. You got you got a
ways to go yet.
Speaker 3 (26:11):
Upfront, I meant to compliment you on your use of resolute.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
That's a good word. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (26:17):
Every now and again, that's too often. Every now and
again I pull one out. It's very Virginia of you.
I don't know about that, it really is. I don't
know about that. That's yeah, somewhere in the back of
the mind. It was just resting there. And you know
it's you know, the older you get, jp the harder
it is to go to the shelf to find words,
you know what I mean. I actually had a long
(26:38):
discussion with a with a mental health person. Okay, yeah,
this is a cool story. I'll tell you real quick.
Because there's a lot of people that are getting older,
right like you.
Speaker 1 (26:50):
We're all getting older. We're all getting older.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
So the NFL has this thing for former players and
it's like a mind and body evaluation. Okay, and you
can do it like every five years. And it's like
I mean intense physical. When I say intense it's not
hard for me to do this. It's very thorough, it's
very complete, and part of it is like a mental
(27:15):
health evaluation and also where you are, where your mind at,
you recall, et cetera. And I was talking to this
doctor and they take you through these things and they
read these like six words. Okay, ok we'll play the
thing with the JP. Okay, ready to JP. We're gonna
I want to give you five words and I want
you to repeat them back to me. Okay, underway program comments,
(27:40):
talk off season coming, give them back to me.
Speaker 1 (27:47):
I don't know if I exactly right.
Speaker 3 (27:49):
And so I'm doing this thing right and I'm trying
to remember all these words that he just threw at me.
And I'm getting nervous on my god, and you know,
because I have like testing anxiety sometimes or whatever. And
so I told the guys that John said, I was
so nervous. Is after the fact I did the test
and he said, you did great, and I was like,
you know, I had so much anxiety about this test.
(28:09):
He said, look, he goes reality is because he was
trying to We were talking about football or something, and
he was he was an LSU guy and he's trying
to remember some great players at LSU. And I was like,
so I'm not the only one that forgets. You're forgetting too.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
And he said, look, he said, you look at it
this way. He said, the older you get, it just.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
Takes you a little bit more time to go through
the file to find out.
Speaker 1 (28:35):
That piece of information.
Speaker 3 (28:37):
He goes, The younger you are, it's a little easier
to find because you also haven't built up a big
file system yet.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
He said.
Speaker 3 (28:43):
The older you get, the file system is a little
bit bigger, and it takes a little bit longer because
you know some of the Brian the brain said, just
takes a little while to go find it made me
feel better. Yeah, anyway, we're used to the dow totally
awesome track there of football. But nonetheless, good story, pretty
cool story, good stories. We're back in a moment. Hey,
the draft is two weeks away and it's time to
(29:05):
celebrate the fifth overall pick with a newly released draft cap.
It's harder to speak when you get older, too. Give
me those five words again. Don't miss your chance secure
one of those limited edition hats and you can shop
in person at the pro shop here outside the Miller
Electric Center or head to Jaguars dot Com and get
the exclusive draft cap.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
Today, we'll hear from Foyer.
Speaker 3 (29:28):
Look and when we come back, we'll discuss some draft items.
I know you've been watching your film this week. I
had been watching a little bit of that.
Speaker 1 (29:35):
We'll get to that when we come back.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
On TOXL, Jaguars dot Com and Jaguars YouTube.
Speaker 1 (29:39):
It's Jaguars Happy Hour.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
We didn't win last year, so I think whatever changes
that are coming are accepted because obviously we didn't play
up to the stand that we needed. So whatever was
going on, you know, if it's if it's you can't
really promise more wins. But obviously we needed maybe a
new way to attack the season, a new way to
attack the off seasons and stuff. So I think everybody's
very accepting of everything new that's in store for us.
(30:13):
You know that that equates to more wins.
Speaker 3 (30:15):
For YEA Lucan Jaguars linebacker, speaking with the media yesterday,
Welcome back, It's Jaguars Happy Hour. I'm JP Shadwick. Did
anybody ask him what position he's going to play?
Speaker 1 (30:27):
That's Jeff Vloghman.
Speaker 3 (30:28):
I know they did not That would have been a
great question to ask, I'm curious we're gonna, you know,
not rotate off the field this year.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
Jeez, that's what I'm curious about.
Speaker 3 (30:39):
I don't know if I'll ever forget the defensive coaching
job from twenty twenty four.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
Well, I mean we'd like to at some point.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
You got to move forward. This is what they're talking about, right. Hey,
last year wasn't good enough. The thing just was baffling
to me last year.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
As you can see, I'm not over again.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
This is the time he got over and we're gonna
we're gonna talk through this together. Okay, Yes, let's do
that so we can move forward. Why would you take
an NFL leading tackler, okay, that's played the Mike position
for the last number of years at a very high level,
(31:27):
and then move him to a different position. Help me
understand that move? They move, They move Devon inside. Didn't
they correct? Which I mean to be honest with you, Look,
(31:47):
Devon had had some trouble. Mike is the captain of
the ship without question, and Foyer is a great leader
by example, vocally, everything, the way he carries himself, the
way he works, all of it. Really good free agent signing,
(32:08):
great signing. I mean legitimate, great free agent signing, one
of the one of the best, and you're gonna move
him to Will. And I'm not trying to bring Devin
Lloyd into the conversation because that shouldn't have any bearing
on it whatsoever.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
But I think it's why, But it shouldn't have whatsoever.
Speaker 3 (32:31):
That positioned good, you're good. I'm just telling you why
if it does if Devin doesn't, it doesn't.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
If he's a better mic.
Speaker 3 (32:39):
Okay, let's say Devon's a better Let's say he's a
better mic than a Will, not better mic than, but
just a better mic that he plays.
Speaker 1 (32:48):
At Will.
Speaker 3 (32:50):
Too bad, Okay, because is a really good mic, and
we're not gonna take a guy that can maybe be
a little better as a mic to make a guy
who's in a really good mica getting two positions at
that point totally instead of just one. Totally figure it out.
I mean, he got one position that's just jam up.
(33:13):
Leave him there, figure something out for the next Okay.
I won't bring that up every Akay, so now, but
until wait a minute, that question's got to be answered.
At some point it will be. Yeah, it's not the
last time we'll hear from four. Everybody's excited. I would
wish somebody had asked him that question, because I mean,
(33:34):
you could tell last year it was just he'd get
asked the question about the position switch, and you could
just you. I mean, look, I've read between the line.
I mean, I look, I played the game, and you
can just tell when a player is not very happy.
But he's the type of guy that's gonna but yeah,
but he was like that, biting his inside of his lip.
(33:55):
You know, you could just tell.
Speaker 1 (33:57):
That he was.
Speaker 3 (33:58):
It was not a comfortable situation for him, and he
didn't play as well last year because he was out
of position. Anyway, that's just me on a rent there.
What was our defensive coordinator's name last year? I'm just kidding.
I don't want to know. I mean that file, I
threw it away, you know how I was trying to
retrieve it. I don't know you're still opening it there
(34:19):
for a second. I mean, but it's just because, look,
I want Foyer to be at his best, and when
he's at his best has been when he has been
playing Mike.
Speaker 1 (34:33):
And he's a good football player.
Speaker 3 (34:36):
And the most impressive thing about him is his stamina,
which is comparable to nobody.
Speaker 1 (34:46):
I don't want to say nobody.
Speaker 3 (34:47):
There's got some guys that play with great stamina, but
he's one of the most impressive guys I've ever seen
in that department.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
And that was before they took him off the field
for twenty stamps a game. What are we doing? Just
you're trying to get me gold on this? Ryan Nielson
brought it up. He was a defensive coordinator.
Speaker 3 (35:07):
Last Yeah, boy, that was that was a doozy.
Speaker 1 (35:12):
All right.
Speaker 3 (35:13):
Hey, by the way, there's the schedule of Daily's Place,
which cranks back up in May. Ted he swims May tenth.
There's been a change though, t Pain is out. Kodak
Black is in as the headliner May thirty first. All right,
so changes and information. Check your email if you bought
through Daily's Place, and ticket Masters should send you an
(35:34):
email for if you're looking for a refund.
Speaker 1 (35:36):
The ticket is still good?
Speaker 3 (35:37):
Is that that Twain's later in the year, July twenty ninth, nice,
I think that's right around the start of training camp.
All right, I'll go check that out. Yeah, I mean
he's been he's been great for a long time, long time. Yeah,
she's been really good. She's Canadian, you know, so does
she have to pay tariffs? Don't know the answer to that.
(36:01):
Tickets at Dailiesplace dot com more sill information. That's a
good question. Yeah, it changes daily. By the way, I
hope we're taxing her on an American dollars she's earning
before she returns to Canada.
Speaker 1 (36:13):
That's Jeff Logoman. I'm JP Shadwick. Today's hellingm Jaguars dot com.
Speaker 3 (36:18):
And by the way, people relax, relax, We're just having fun.
Speaker 1 (36:22):
NFL Draft two weeks from tonight, Round one.
Speaker 3 (36:27):
Can't wait. Uh and uh, we're gonna have a radio
show for that. Shocking it happens like every year it does.
And breaking news. We're doing something that happens all the time. Well,
you know we had Baselli on in the past.
Speaker 1 (36:43):
Oh it's a good point.
Speaker 3 (36:44):
So well, he's an executive now, so you gotta, you know,
schedule out time with him way in advance. Are we
gonna Are we gonna get him at in some capacity?
I could see they maybe like post pic maybe Okay,
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (36:59):
I'm just talking out out too.
Speaker 3 (37:00):
Maybe we can get some inside information death for our
radio broadcast.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
I doubt that why not. He's like a vault. He's
a vault. Yeah, okay, I think I felt.
Speaker 3 (37:11):
Maybe that you know, you have a closer relationship. I
just thought maybe he know the guy he throws a
bone right, you know, I mean.
Speaker 1 (37:18):
Throws a bone tone.
Speaker 3 (37:20):
Come on, I don't even know him.
Speaker 1 (37:22):
I don't know this. Do you don't know that guy?
Speaker 3 (37:23):
I don't know this to change, he's changed whole lot,
not even the same guy, not even close. What's the
what's the what's the famous song? There's a lot of
famous songs I have about that. Now there's a it's
a it's Joe Fortunado would know this. It's a song.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
Sometimes I go to parties sometimes until four, and he
talks about people change.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
I haven't changed, Joe Walsh. Thank you, Yeah, thank you?
Folder change. Yeah, I found it faster, did well. You're
younger than me. You can say that again. I am
much younger.
Speaker 3 (38:01):
You're getting older now I am. Let's go back in
a moment. We'll have our final thoughts. If we can
find them.
Speaker 1 (38:08):
We search, We'll do.
Speaker 3 (38:12):
If we can use AI to help out this whole
folder finding stuff we don't help, we can get Yeah,
UNTENTEDXL Jaguars dot Com and Jaguars YouTube.
Speaker 1 (38:23):
This is Jaguars Happy Hours.
Speaker 4 (38:31):
Before we can do anything, we've got to be able
to show them that at least we do we care right,
We care first, and we care about not only the
success of the organization but also the development of the player.
And when they know that, hey, we're here to truly
help see you become the best version of yourself both
on and off the field. Once we establish those lines
(38:53):
start to have more intimate conversations, well that's usually when
you feel them start to maybe let's the guard down
and say, Okay, hey, I'm open to hearing maybe a
new way of learning or a different way of doing this,
and vice versa for coaches as well.
Speaker 3 (39:08):
Liam Cohen, Jaguars head coach Yesterday full media availabilities with
the He and Trevor Lawrence plus Foyer Lucan at Jaguars
dot Com and Jaguars YouTube. Welcome back to Jaguars Happy Hour.
JP Shadwick with Jeff Blogaman. We're at the Hundai Studios
the Miller Electric Center on Tintedexel, Jaguars dot Com and
Jaguars YouTube and Jaguars Happy Hour is presented by Dream
(39:32):
Finders Homes, official homebuilder of the Jacksonville Jaguars Lodgs.
Speaker 1 (39:37):
I care about you, man. Just know that first, and
then we can move forward. Great.
Speaker 3 (39:41):
I appreciate that too, draft talk. Appreciate that. So that'll
help us have a better working relationship. That's right, Okay, Great,
you got to start with a good foundation. Great, and no,
we're all on the same page and we can move forward. Right,
that's what they're doing, right. That's why you know, and
I kid some but that this time of year, in
the first meetings for the coaching staff in front of
the team, those first impressions, you know, they go a
(40:05):
long way. And we heard a lot, you know, in
the aftermath of last season that some of the new
staff that had come in We heard pretty quickly and
the after math of it that, okay, we we kind
of knew earlier this is going to be an interesting year.
So that's why these are so important right now. It
was a little rocky to start with last year from
(40:27):
what we understood, and that it didn't really get much better.
So look, there's only one first impression, and I think,
uh and that and that goes both ways. Now, you know,
from from the coaches to the players and from the
players to the coaches. So uh, I think, uh, you know,
(40:50):
but it's not the only chance to make an impression.
You know, there's plenty of more opportunities through your hard work, dedication,
the kind of person you are, the kind of work
ethic that you carry, how you try to bring others
with you and to and to raise others around you,
raise the level of others around you. So look, I'm
(41:11):
I'm looking forward to, uh to the off season stuff.
I'm looking forward to the OTAs. I understand that we're
going to be able to maybe take a peek a
few I think, at more OTAs than we have in
the past, which is great because look, football science is
uh is not something that should be so secretive.
Speaker 1 (41:30):
I mean, people know what you're gonna do. Come on,
you know, you don't need to.
Speaker 3 (41:34):
Have this seclusion, you know, this cloud of secrecy around
what you're doing, and if they're you know and so
u and especially with a new staff, I mean you
would think that they would want to have some of that,
but uh, it's football, it's not rocket science.
Speaker 1 (41:50):
I mean you also don't want to like just open
up the gates all the time. No, no, no, no.
Speaker 3 (41:54):
I mean, yeah, you don't want to have you know,
media guys out there watching you left weights or something
like that.
Speaker 1 (42:00):
But the practices.
Speaker 3 (42:01):
Look, I've always been a big believer in this and
that as athletes and performers, you perform in front of people.
You play in front of people, So why not try
to create anything that can be similar to that and
as often as you can.
Speaker 1 (42:22):
I remember the some of.
Speaker 3 (42:24):
The best practices that ever had in training camps were
the ones that were going against other teams and the
public was there to watch, you know, I mean, it
kind of creates a heightened level of awareness and a
heightened level of intensity, and so any any way that
you can try to elevate that I think is a positive.
Speaker 1 (42:47):
Was that the same when they had the pads off
against the Bucks last year? What in the world was that?
I'm just asking, just asking.
Speaker 3 (42:56):
So there you go, you're trying to take me down
that road again, asking a question.
Speaker 1 (43:02):
I'm not did that happen that day? I'm not biting.
I'm not I'm not biting that in front of fans.
Speaker 3 (43:10):
Now, I'm not gonna. I'm not gonna bite. I'm not
gonna I'm not.
Speaker 1 (43:13):
No, no, no, bump the man.
Speaker 3 (43:16):
They needed to get refreshed JP and ready for the game. Okay,
it was smart getting ready for this law physical can
I just that was baffling. Yeah, I'm not going down
that right. I'm not Yeah, trying to get you to
turn the left down.
Speaker 1 (43:35):
I'm not gonna take a left. I'm gonna stay right. Okay, Well,
in that case, for two weeks in the road, I'm
staying to the right. You're gonna take it. I'm staying
to the right. NFL Draft two weeks out? Where are
you now? At number five? What are you? What are you?
Speaker 3 (43:46):
What is your you know, depends on the forehead. I
get it. But what do you really want right now?
Don't tell me a really good football player?
Speaker 1 (43:55):
Give me give me a name.
Speaker 5 (43:58):
You know.
Speaker 1 (43:59):
I could give you a bunch of names.
Speaker 3 (44:01):
Brandon Graham, I could give you the tackle that of
l l SU what's his name? Banks to tackle out
of Texas?
Speaker 1 (44:11):
Will Will Campbell out.
Speaker 3 (44:13):
LSU, Travis Hunter. He's there at five, take them. If
he's there at five, take them. Yeah, you run to the.
Speaker 1 (44:23):
Don't it's you know?
Speaker 3 (44:24):
And I think that's partly the problem. You know, some
of the best players in this draft are not necessarily
being talked about. So, first off, like the quarterbacks, if
if the position didn't merit the importance, would these two
guys be at the top.
Speaker 1 (44:43):
We have this a lot of years, we have this conversation.
Speaker 3 (44:46):
Right, It's kind of like running back, right, running back's
been devalued, quarterback has been.
Speaker 1 (44:54):
Really amped up in value.
Speaker 3 (44:55):
Right, So we're talking about two quarterbacks at the top
of the draft, but we're not talking about Jenny at
the top of the draft because he's a running back.
So you know, it's just everybody has values assigned to
different things. Offensive linemen, okay, big guys. Foundational players want
(45:17):
to get the running game better, right, Well, natural way
to do that, get better offensive linemen, right, create competition.
So could they go offensive lineman to tackle out of Texas?
Good player tackle out? And you know, let me just
say this about when I talk about players. I don't
know if these guys are if they're intelligence, is you know,
(45:40):
a level rocket science or box of rocks?
Speaker 1 (45:43):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (45:45):
Okay, I just watched the film. Okay, I don't know
if these.
Speaker 1 (45:49):
Guys are.
Speaker 3 (45:52):
The kind of guy that I would want to have
marry my daughter or are they the kind of guy
that deserves to be locked up.
Speaker 1 (45:58):
I don't know. I can't tell all of that when
I watched the film.
Speaker 3 (46:02):
I just watched the film, and there's some good offensive
lineman on film. The tackle out of Ohio State who
had an injury last year. He might be the most
talented offensive lineman of.
Speaker 1 (46:13):
All of them.
Speaker 3 (46:15):
Great athlete, the tackle Membo Missouri you're talking about, I mean,
talk about an athlete. I don't know if he's a
tackle though, probably a guard. Is he better than the
Missouri tackle we got last year?
Speaker 1 (46:32):
Foster? Oh yeah, yeah, it's not even close.
Speaker 3 (46:37):
I mean, Javon Foster struggled even I think get active
on game.
Speaker 1 (46:42):
I don't know if he was.
Speaker 3 (46:43):
He maybe once or twice maybe. I mean, he's got
all he's got. He's got a long way to go. Okay,
he's got a long way to go. But there's some
great offensive lineman the This is the.
Speaker 1 (46:55):
Scenic route to the answer to the question. I don't
have an answer.
Speaker 3 (47:00):
I told you this last week, and I'm still sticking
by my guns. And it was interesting because I was
reading one of the general manager's comments today and he
was talking about there is probably going to be less
trade activity in this draft, just because there's not most
likely going to be as many teams wanting to move up,
(47:23):
and the general manager talked about how you can probably
get a player. I think it's the comment that he
used in the second round that's probably about the same
as the fourth round. I think the first round is
kind of similar, and that you've got those elite players
at the top, and then once you get past them,
(47:44):
you have some players that are kind of all together,
and so they're more than likely going to be some
teams looking to trade down, and which is what I
said from the beginning that I would love to see
this team trade down. But I know what you're going
to ask there. You can't trade and you got to
make a pick. Who was drafted at one, two, three,
(48:04):
four before I make a pick? Well that's I mean,
I didn't ask you that. I asked you what would
you like? Well, you know, I like, I like a
Hall of Fame offensive lineman. Okay, that's gonna go. Is
there a Hall of Fame offensive lineman? Of those guys
you talked about, I think they're really good.
Speaker 1 (48:20):
I don't think there's a Hall of Fame offensive Okay, Well,
then you're in the wrong draft for that.
Speaker 3 (48:25):
Well, yeah, I mean you got to make a pick, right,
I mean, and you want to get better run in
the football.
Speaker 1 (48:30):
You know you're going running back.
Speaker 3 (48:32):
No, I'm not going I thought you were about to
say no, no, no, no, no, I'm.
Speaker 1 (48:35):
Not going running back.
Speaker 3 (48:37):
I mean, but I mean there's some offensive linemen are
really good in that draft. Graham's a really good player,
Mason Graham defensive tackle. What happens if Sanders is there
at five? You probably get now you're talking about trading down?
Could you in theory? Could you maybe? But why is
(48:58):
he sliding? I don't know, you know, that'd be a question.
Speaker 1 (49:01):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (49:02):
Maybe some teams are scared of drafting them because of the.
Speaker 1 (49:06):
The Dion effect.
Speaker 3 (49:07):
I don't know, but I think it's an interesting conversation.
And I think the most interesting conversation is, Look, everybody
expects this football team to maybe go I think on
first class most people either Brandon Graham or offensive line right,
most people are thinking that. And that's where if you
look at all the mocks, you see that kind of
(49:29):
happening with the Jaguars quite often.
Speaker 1 (49:33):
I don't know if that's gonna happen or not. I
don't know.
Speaker 3 (49:35):
But here's the thing. We have no track record on
James Gladstone zero. Okay, all I know. Give me some
player that is intangibly rich that's going to fit in
the ecosystem, and that's a perennial pro bowler and if
he's Hall of Fame caliber guy, eventually awesome.
Speaker 1 (49:56):
That's Jeff Logan. I'm JP shattered.
Speaker 3 (49:58):
Thanks to our entire crew, Brent Reaver, David Joe, Joe Fortunado,
our timekeeper, Tyler Stidham, and William P's on the digital side.
Speaker 1 (50:07):
