Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, well, let's get rolling, doll. We're good to go.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Okay, hold on, Oh, hold.
Speaker 1 (00:06):
On, he wasn't ready. He wasn't ready. Wouldn't he getting
ready to get ready?
Speaker 2 (00:10):
I know I told you I was getting ready to
get ready, and so it's not I'm not ready. That's
the difference. Okay, hold on, let me get let me
get my timer set Week seven. There we go.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Jordan and Jake go good. I'm excited, ready to go.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
The home stops. He throws at a crossfield. Guess who
Jordan Gross? Here are your panther?
Speaker 3 (00:37):
Hall of Honor remembers Jordan's Gross and Jake delone.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Jordan Gross, Jake Alone, Jordan Jake Podcast, or, as my
son likes to call it, the Jake and Jordan just
to I think he just likes to mess with me,
Jake that I'm number two in his mind, or you're
number one. I'm not sure what it is.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
No, I would think it's more I'm number one. I
mean to me, that's kind of what I.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Well, and evidently the Boom and Gross as well, the
Jake and Jordan Podcast. Hey, so I went out to dinner,
like at this place where you like walk zupas where
you walk up and order your salad or soup or
whatever sandwich they make it in front of you, kind
of deal. Pumpkin Feizo is one of the options. And
(01:21):
I said to myself, you know, it's October. I think
it's time for me to start diving into the pumpkin
flavorings on things. And it made me think, Jake, are
you a pumpkin flavor? Are you a pumpkin beer, pumpkin coffee,
pumpkin pie, pumpkin to read those soup do you do
you get into that at this time of year? Or
you Nope? I stupid? What's got me here? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:43):
I can't really say I'm that guy, Jordan.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
I don't think I'm a grinch when it comes to that,
but I'm kind of I'm I'm gonna stick.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
With what I know.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
And you see you're getting but it's still warm. I
mean still it's cool for you and you're in. The
leaves have changed, like we're gonna actually get down into
the low fifties tonight because the cool front has come through.
But yes, yesterday or should I say, I think Sunday
or Monday, it was like ninety steel. You know, Now
(02:10):
it feels okay in the morning, so maybe that's why.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
I don't know. But do you not like pumpkin flavoring? Like,
what about a pumpkin beer? You drink a pumpkin beer?
Speaker 1 (02:19):
I probably would try it.
Speaker 4 (02:20):
Yes, I'll just try it. Yeah, I mean, what about
pumpkin latte? I doubt I'll ever order one, but you
know on that one too.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
I promise you. I could probably probably sip on it
if I if I had to.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
Yeah, what about pumpkin pie? Where do you sit on that?
Speaker 3 (02:39):
Don't That's not something that we eat much down here,
But I have tried it and I've enjoyed it, so yes,
I'm okay with it.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Pumpkin Tree's a soup?
Speaker 1 (02:49):
Not so sure?
Speaker 2 (02:51):
It was pretty good.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
Yeah, I'm not so sure I would try that. No,
I take that back, I would try it.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
What I order it? Yeah, not so sure.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
All right, So you're with me ever at zupas in Boise, Idaho,
and I order.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
It, you'll have some Okay? Sounds great?
Speaker 2 (03:07):
All right. The other thing I got to ask you
before we start talking panthers, do you own or partake
in any sana or cold tubbing? Because I'm in the market.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
No, that's I can't. No.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Yeah, I remember you were kind of a cold tub.
Wos your teammates?
Speaker 3 (03:28):
No, I used to. I used to like the cold tub.
It's just I mean, I hate to be that way.
I don't really have, you know, I like to jump
in my pool after that pet grass.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
You cut grass and you jump in the pool.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Yeah, like used to get all the Is that your shower?
Speaker 2 (03:43):
Is that how he shower?
Speaker 3 (03:46):
No, but it's just it. That's a refreshing deal for me,
and I do like this time of year. If I
jump in it, there is a little it's it's a
little cooler, but it's not.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Like so do you go straight from the work clothes
and jump right in grass about.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
And walk walk right in? Yes, that's the filter a filter.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Yes, stripping the shirt off and socks and and I
go somebody else have picked that up.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
No, that's how it's gonna filter. You know, it'll filter out.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Yeah, all right, Well that brings us to, uh the
end of what's going on with Jordan and Jake, the
segment that we always start with. Well we lost by one.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
Okay, was it? Did you did your team play?
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Yes? Played super hard as they as they will.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
Good.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Good, kids. Man, they want to win. You know a
couple Well, I call the time out when we had
ten on the field on defense. I shouldn't have done
that one time because I could have used the time
out the end we could have You know, you always
think like we could have adjusted better defensively to what
(04:56):
they were doing. That was just a really you know what,
if I'm being on it was a really good high
school football game. Twenty eight to twenty nine. They scored
on a two point conversion with like three minutes to go.
We got the ball back, couldn't get anything going fourth down,
didn't get it. They got the ball back, kneeled it out.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Would you question your play the play call with him?
You don't call the place. I don't want you to
throw anybody under.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
The Now, we did a good job. We did a
good job. I mean there would it'd be better if
there was something that, you know, a call. There's none
of that. It was just a good game. But now
we got senior night, Jake. You know what's awesome being
a high school football coach is senior night. This is
about the seniors. You remember that, right you your parents
are going to be on the field with you and
(05:41):
everybody's crying in and I can't believe how fast the
four years have gone and all that stuff. Senior night.
So I tried to play it up big to the underclassmen.
We win this game for them and all that stuff.
So it'll be a big It's supposed to be a
high of fifty one that day. Jake, ooh n real cool.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
Yeah, that's okay.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
Now you were at the game. Let's talk about the Panthers.
You were at the games to Atlanta ended up not
being victorious twenty to thirty eight. But it's just at
one and five, I watched your what's it called?
Speaker 1 (06:15):
What do you guys?
Speaker 2 (06:16):
The segment you do with the booth review with you
and Niche. Yeah, that was that's a nice little deal.
Uh So I kind of already know what you think,
but not all of our listeners do, so give me
the rundown.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
Jake, Yeah, Jordan, listen, I think. Well, let's talk about
the keys of the game. The first thing we talked
about was just keeping the run game going, Like you know,
two offensive linemen knew that we were going to have
in there. Can we keep the continuity in the run
game and offensively score some points to be able to
keep that Atlanta offense off the field, because, to be
(06:47):
very honest, like that's kind of where we're at right now.
We've we've been decimated with injuries and I don't like
talking about it, but it.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
Is what it is.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
And so we're playing guys we've signed at the beginning
of the season. We're playing that ton of backups. Our
depths starting to show a.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
Little bit, and that's kind of how the game went.
I think we I thought it was huge scoring right
before the half.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
I think we did some decent things offensively, but scoring
right before the half was that was great, to be
quite honest, because it looked like I was gonna say, hey,
Atlanta has three timeouts, let's we got to get a
first down here because they're going to get the ball
to start the second half. Well, Coach Canalis called the
first time out, and then we just throw the ball
right down the field and go all the way down
(07:31):
the field and we get a touchdown.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
And that was awesome.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
I love seeing that we cut the deficit at half,
and listen, it's twenty eight to twenty and the fourth
quarter we get the ball to start on the twelve
yard line and we go right down the field, tons
of runs, a few passes that were able to complete.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
And then we run a bootleg and you know, we
just we had a turnover.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
You know, some andy I could tell this frustration right after,
probably a pass he wished he would have had back,
and Atlanta was able to capitalize. But I thought this
team really played, really played tough. They played hard. Effort
is not a problem. That's that's a given. It's not
a problem. I guess the thing I'm gonna say, Jordan,
I feel a lot more encouraged right now by the
(08:14):
direction of the team, really and truly than I did
last year, to be quite honest, And and that's not just
trying to make things.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
Bill beller better or look better.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
But offensively, we're running the ball pretty well, we're blocking
pretty well.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
Brady did a really good job. I thought Josh Niman
did a really good job filling in Cuba. Listen, that's
that's an expectation.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
I expect Tuba to play a certain way every week,
because that's that's the way he has shown since he's
been here, and he's living up to that. Deontay Johnson
is a tough cover for opposing teams JT Sanders, the rookie.
I'm seeing growth from him. Early in the season, he
catch a pass and he want to dance a little bit.
Now he's catching it and going it upfield. He's improving on.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
His block and Ian Thomas was a big addition back.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
Xavier la Gett another touchdown pass, big strong body. I
don't want to leave anybody out. Jalen Kocher, he flashed again.
It's he doesn't look like a rookie. Undrafted holy Cross
six two two fifteen, moves well, big good route, seeing
Black a pro. So I like what we're doing offensively. Defensively,
(09:18):
it's a battle right now. And I think coach Everew,
you got to give him credit.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
You don't know who you're gonna have.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
We can and week out. I mean, that's kind of
where we're at. You're asking a ton for the linebackers,
two young kids that you know. Trevin playing hard is
not a problem. It's just playing fast and teams are
doing a good job of shifting in motion and causing
us to have some stress on defense.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
And there's a big communication.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
And that was talked about leading up to the game.
I thought we had a couple of communication eras defensively.
So that's a long rundown, but that's kind of what
I what I felt what I saw on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
To your point about the rookies in listing them all, yeah,
I mean it's not an ideal situation to have that
many rookies having to produce and come up big. But
you're comment about where we're headed and you feel better
than did a year ago. Yeah, I definitely co signed that, Jake.
And like, do you do you mean that in a
(10:11):
sense of this season at one in five with eleven
to go, or do you mean that in sense of
the next the next few years, Jake? Or both?
Speaker 1 (10:21):
In terms of what you said, I feel better this
year than last year, I can't.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
I just I think I think offensively okay, and and
and probably this is a shaded view for me because
I'm looking at it offensively. I just know last year
we didn't run it the best. There was a ton
of issues. Yes, we had a bunch of injuries, but listen,
we were down too starters. And so the depth on offense,
I thought, is a lot better. And I like what
(10:45):
we're doing offensive I like the way we run the football.
I think we're doing a really good job. I like
our mix of run past, to be quite honest. We're
trying to take shots, We're throwing the ball down the field. Offensively,
I think we're doing well. It's it almost feels like, Jordan,
if you ever played basketball, It's an make it, take
it type of situation right now, like if a team scores,
we got to answer. It kind of feels like that way. Defensively,
(11:09):
I guess in my mind, listen, our best player on
our team, in my opinion, I don't.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
Think it's closed. Is Derek Brown by a landslide?
Speaker 3 (11:18):
Well, we don't have it, okay, So and this is
a vital piece to what this team does.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
So he's going. We know we'll have him back next year.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
You lose both linebackers the way we did, and I
just think both not only were the good players making tackles,
but they were intelligent community. They were very communicative linebackers.
So Josie we know he will come back at some point. Shack,
he's done for the year. So you drop two in
one game and then looking forward to getting Jordan Fuller.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
Back whenever he's gonna be able to come back.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
Dane Jackson, who we signed, I thought Mike Jackson has
done an unbelievable job of being.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
Traded before the first game.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
He's playing really good football, so interior that that's some issues,
you know, Sean Total, it was good to get him
back last week.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
A Shawn. He's playing his tailoff, he's trying hard. You know.
Not having clown he was a big loss for us.
That's a big loss.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
Because you know that was a question more coming into
the season with our edge and setting the edges, and
then with Clowney gone, you know, we had we had
some issues there this week, and that's just kind of
where we're at right now, Jordan. But the direction I
like where we're going. I know a lot's being made.
Jonathan Brooks, he's one that's maybe the twenty one day
windows now going to start to open up with him.
(12:34):
And but that's that's for the future, you know. And
so the direction of offense, I like it. Not going
to talk about next year yet, but you know, there'll
be some more holes that we're gonna have to fill
in this football team. But I like to see that
the jump from one year to the next offense in.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
The BUYE is not in an ideal time. Jake, we
still have four games, including the one this week before
the buy and a trip to Germany. It'd be nice
to get some guys healthy, but we're you know, the
buy doesn't automatically cure everyone. It's just, you know, a
time to kind of reset and catch your breath. So
it's gonna be a holiday with with going into Washington
(13:12):
now four and two, And isn't it just crazy? They've
got a rookie quarterback that's doing really well. Jayden Daniels
is leading the league in completion percentage, which is just
bonkers for a rookie. But how are they able to
get such production out of him? He's a rookie, Jake.
You know, we've got to read a rookie last year
(13:33):
and there's different pieces surrounding him, but he just seemed
to be rolling.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
Yeah, I think you got a credit the kid.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
You know, this kid was at Arizona State and then
left after a couple of years of playing there. He's
played a ton of football, went to LSU, and to
be quite honest, I don't think anybody anticipated him winning
the Heisman last year going into the season. It was
almost like a Joe Burrow ish type of rise because
going into Joe's senior year, Burrow was a third of
(14:00):
fourth round pick projection, and then he has that fantastic year. Yeah,
he had a lot of good players around them, but
he drove that car. And then you watched j Daniels
last year. He made the SEC look slow the way
he throw and run away from him. And yes, he
had two first round pick wide receivers. So we're extremely good.
But he's coming to the NFL and he's done the
(14:20):
same thing. He's not turning over the football. He uses
his legs a great amount and he's special. That's a
gift and he takes full advantage of it. Tall guy
who can really run. Not the thickest guy, but he
knows how to kind of absorb hits or not take
the direct hits. But he's all in and just talking
to some a couple of friends I have up with
(14:43):
the Commanders, they said, hey, since day one, this kid
all in, like there all the time, and that's what
he's about.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
And dan Quinn's come in.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
They they've signed some nice pieces and they've had some talent.
Washington wasn't the void of some talent. I always thought
Terry McLaurin, the receiver was an absolute stud. He just
never got him the ball, and you get Austin Eckler,
you know, to go with Brian Robinson Eckler. I mean,
they've got some pieces, but the quarterback is helping the
(15:11):
defense out because they're possessing the ball so long.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
Well, am I wrong in thinking that it might be
a good week for our run game that's doing so well.
Cuba's third in the league and rushing and their d line,
Thank goodness, Jonathan Allen's out. I mean I feel bad
for him, obviously, Taurus Peck or something with his chest
towards Peck, I think, but that guy's a monster. He's
just an incredible defensive tackle. I know their edge guys,
(15:36):
their ends got beat up last week. So I mean,
what the parts of the offense that you were praising
O line in the run game? I would have to
think we're going to see a good bit of that
this week, Jordan.
Speaker 3 (15:47):
I think I think we're I think teams need to
see that from us the rest of the season, to
be quite honest. I mean, that's kind of that's what
I think we're really good at. And I think once
stealing comes back that that's going to add another element
with the growth of some of the young players, that
we're gonna be an offense that teams are not gonna
like the face. Yeah, I can, you know, be panthered
cheerleader all I want here, but we're a tough offense
(16:09):
to face right now. And talking to defensive coaches from
other teams before and after the games, I mean, hey,
I like what y'all do. Y'all got some weapons, you know,
and they're they're starting to feel it, you know. It's
just defensively, just trying to catch up and stop the bleeding.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
I guess you could.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
Say, are you going to this game?
Speaker 1 (16:28):
Jordan?
Speaker 3 (16:28):
I am not doing this game because we are in
homecoming week and.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
I want to tell you a little story about this.
You talked about your game. So it's homecoming week and
I have a senior and she made the homecoming court
and there's a ton of festimalies.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
They do a great job. I mean, listen, it has started.
They started something last Sunday that I missed or not,
and it's it's a big deal. So big bonfire tomorrow night,
and they do something on the field with the golf courts,
you know, like a parade, and then there's a mass
on Friday morning. In the game Friday night where the
presentation of the court and who's the queen and all
that stuff, and then Saturday is the homecoming dance and
(17:05):
we're hosting a big dinner here for like thirty of
the seniors. But listen to how unfortunate. So the team
we were supposed to play, they got into a fight
in the shake hands line after the game.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
Last Friday, evening them in another school.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
There was some TikTok trend that I guess you slap
people on the behind with.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
A towel or something after a game. I'm not on.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
TikTok, so I can't say I know that, and there
was a free for all there was a fight. So
the LHSAA, which is the governing body in Louisiana, they
have suspended both teams from playing this weekend so we
don't have an opponent on Friday night.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
Uh brutal.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
So what are you gonna do? Are you gonna You're
gonna get some of your buddies and suit up.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
So found out yesterday a little too late to obviously
get another game in.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
So the school was done as best as they could.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
All festivities with homecoming will continue on as planned, except
the game on Friday night, and in three weeks on
a Friday night, our last home game, that's when.
Speaker 1 (18:04):
They'll do the presentation of the court and things like that.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
They had to do what was best, and you got
to tip your hat to the administration.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
It is what it is, you know. So everything will
go according as played except the football game.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
And you just know how exciting that is in high
school and you know that that day of school that
you don't really don't do a whole lot in the
pep rally and the excitement.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
So yeah, so that's where we're at with that, Jordan.
But I got to make the best of the situation.
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
I constantly am reminded our guys social media spar and
stuff tak, like the amount of the amount of overlap
that kids now have with the opponent they're going against.
They're like all on social media all week talking trash
to each other, you know, and stuff like that. I'm like, guys,
knock it off. They think I'm so old, Jake, you
(18:52):
don't need to do that. Knock it off, why you know,
blah blah blah. And then it's just like, is that right? There.
Look at the derail, the amount of people it affects
by just doing something that being a knucklehead.
Speaker 1 (19:03):
Jake.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
Well, and the kid that yeah, the kid that started
it all wasn't even dressed out.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
So there you go, like, yeah, Jordan, we are old.
You hear his complaining. I think we're old.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
Yeah, well we're talking about pumpkin soup to start to
show off. So that means two things. We're old and
the Panthers are one in five. That's what that means,
right there, Jake. Last thing I got for you, I
hit it up last week concert for Carolina happening October
twenty sixth, Bank of America Saturday with Luke Comb's, Eric Church,
(19:36):
Billy Strings, James Tail, a ton of people and you
can watch it online. So we'll be doing that and
all the money goes to Hurricane Helen relief efforts. So
my buddy's the Avid Brothers will be playing. So I
just it's not a Panther thing, but I just what
a cool thing to take away and help from some
major destructions. So I just want to pitch that, buddy.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
I agree and listen with the pa Anthers are doing,
and I'll say what the Panthers are doing with the
tempers are doing with you know.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
You know, it's just unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (20:07):
Won the money they donated and to what they're doing,
you know, the use of this stadium and everything. I
just think it's fantastic, you know, Jordan, it's a it's
a tough situation, still a tough situation. And once again,
if anybody could do anything, and certainly all the people,
if you do have them to listen, maybe you know,
we give you a little break from the tragedy that
(20:28):
you've gone through and a little levity, you know, laughter
or whatnot. I got one other thing, Jordan. Okay, So
Sunday before the game, I like to go down in
between our hits before the game, I love to watch
the other team warm up. You can watch a much
film as you want, but to see them in the
flesh is something that I just I like seeing. I
like to just watch them move and things like that.
Speaker 5 (20:50):
So as I'm going down, there is a celebrity on
the sideline for the Panthers and he's in a jersey
and so yes, and so I'm like, okay.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
I'm looking. I'm looking. I'm like, who is this? Who
is this? Well, it is, and I'm gonna check see
how much you know it is the baby? Do you
know who the baby is?
Speaker 3 (21:11):
Here is a here's a rap artist.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
Yeah, the playlist of some of the guys on our
weight Room.
Speaker 3 (21:19):
But that's so I went and I wanted a picture
with him because I know I've heard my daughters talk
about him. I took a picture. When he saw me.
He was so pumped and he wanted his mother to
meet me. He had his family with me. They were
they were awesome. He's a Panther fan through and through.
So I took a picture. I sent it to my daughter.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
The one in high school, and she was like, you
have got to be kidding me.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
She was, yes, Dad was so cool because she said,
I'm actually listening to some of his songs right now.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
So how about that, Jordan. I'm not.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
Exactly you could have warned me, and I could have
done some research. When you're like, do you know who
the baby is? I can be like, oh, yeah, I
like I like his entitled and then blah blah blah.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
Well you know that's what we bring to the audience.
We bring, you know, new material, and we're just we
go with it.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
I'll tell you what. I never thought I was cooler
than in twenty eleven and when we beat the Niners
at at San Francisco, an old candlestick and Steph young cool.
Steph Curry was in the locker room after celebrating with us.
I was like, yep, I'm cool. And now I don't
even know who the baby is.
Speaker 1 (22:29):
So and you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (22:32):
I heard his name. I've heard his name off the
playlist in the weight room. That's it.
Speaker 1 (22:36):
So I will say this.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
I think, okay, you talk about the baby, but I
will say this. You said, Steph Curry. I promise you
if Steph Curry says, hey, Jordan Gross.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
You know, if Steph Curry is going to stay hu.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
Left tackle over a decade, Carolina Panthers, I promise you
Steph Curry would say that.
Speaker 2 (22:51):
That'd be cool, man. That'd be almost as cool as
the baby, almost as cool as the baby.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
I'm telling you it is what it is.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
Don't feel good as we sign off, Jake. You know what,
I'm somebody. I'm somebody that matters, Jake. Thank you for
saying that.
Speaker 1 (23:06):
But there you go, buddy, I'm here for you, all right.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
Go jump in your pool.
Speaker 1 (23:11):
Yeah, might do that. Thank you,
