Speaker 1 (00:02):
Jordan and Jake.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
I go good, I'm excited, ready to go.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
The home stops. He throws at a crossfield. Guess who,
George Gross. Here are your Panther Hall of Honor members,
Jordan Gross and Jake Delome. Jake. So, we were talking
just one second ago before he record about iPhones and iPads.
And I'm of the opinion that I don't know who
(00:28):
in the world uses an iPad other than little kids
and old men to play casino games on. So, Jake,
you say you have an iPad and you prefer to
use it on flights and whatnot. Talk me through this process, buddy,
because I'm extremely jaded in my opinion.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
So, yes, sir, I have an iPad. I have the
biggest one that they make. It's about five years old.
I'll probably beginning another one soon. And I use it
to watch film, especially like the Panther film when I'm flying,
and also when i'm flying, like different things up downloaded
to watch yes, instead of the instead of the cartoons,
(01:07):
cartoons and you can and I'm okay, like Maize Runner
and stuff on there. I can. I can't. I can
do all that. But all I'm telling you is that
I love my iPad and use like a ton for
the horses in the race, Like what.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Do you draw pictures of horses?
Speaker 2 (01:23):
On? Right? Constantly watching video and things like that, I'm
watching replay some are you always scouting the opponent one?
You know? Things like that you packet because you're trying to,
like you feel bad.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
You have your phone in one pocket and then you
have a giant pot like cargo pants that you put
your iPad in. Is that what happens?
Speaker 2 (01:42):
I'm is that okay? Is something wrong with that? I
don't think there's anything wrong with that?
Speaker 1 (01:46):
Does it have cell service? Your iPad?
Speaker 2 (01:49):
It connects to my hotspot on my phone?
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Too many process That's why that's why you have issues
all the time.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
Button you touch a button, you have the keyboard.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
That goes on the iPad. I do not so known
as a laptop.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
I do not.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
So when you watch film, you're just touching the buttons
on the screen. Yes, and you feel like that's responsive enough?
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Just yescajos swipe, I used slow motion, rewind fast five
second second back?
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Yes, all right, Next time I fly, I'm going to
look around for other people doing the same thing. All right.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
Listen, People just don't want to work. Jordan's very simple.
People are la think it's easier to just have the phone,
but you know, no, because I want I want a
bigger picture.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
You know where there I saw a lot of iPads
was this weekend. I was fortunate enough to accompany one
of my high school players on an unofficial visit to
University of Oregon, which was an enjoyable experience. Let me
tell you so we went to Oregon versus you dub
known as the Border War. You dubbed meaning University Washington game. Yes, Oregon.
(02:57):
It's been interesting going on these little visits with my guy, uh,
with my player, because everybody does a different organ Jake
was all about business. We got there Friday and they said, okay, well,
here's your tenerary, here's your little host person, take you around.
We just went straight to meetings like we sat in
on team meeting. We went over the game plan, when
(03:20):
the offensive meeting, we went over. We went to O
line meetings, we went to walk throughs, we went to
the pregame lift. It was all business. Jake. Pretty cool
to look at, get a little glimpse into the number
one team in the country. I had a good time.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
What did you did the head coach give a spiel?
How was all that? Because today is if you recording,
this is National Signing Day, which is absolutely the most
ridiculous thing in the world that the NCAA puts this
on December the fourth. I mean, what a joke.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
Anyway, go ahead, early signing, Jake, early signing.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Dumb, dumb signing. That's what it is. Dumb signing. Why
is the dumb because you don't Oh, the teams are
trying to prepare to play conference championship games and things
of that nature. I mean, what are we doing? Why? Why?
I don't get it.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
The amount of work that these coaches have to do.
So we had we got to go to a breakfast
deal games game day, Jake, Okay, the important game. Oregon
is undefeated, gonna gonna go finish the regular season undefeated
if they beat you up. Nine in the morning. We're
at this breakfast thing for recruits. It's funny when you
go on an unofficial visit, you have to pay for
(04:31):
all your meals. Okay, so it's like ten bucks because
they can't it's not an official visit, you know. So
we go to this breakfast there's all the coaches entertaining
recruits on game day right, talking to the families, shaking hands,
kissing babies. Then we go from that, and then we
go to the state to the facility. Now they're back
in coach mode where now they're doing little pregame meetings
(04:53):
and walkthroughs with their team. Then we go down on
the game field before the game. Here the coaches before
the players come out. Now they're back recruiting, talking to
recruits on the sidelines and families that are there for
the game. Then you coach the game, Jake. Then after
the game, they come back in the football facility and
have to entertain and talk to recruits once again. And
(05:17):
they like, it's NonStop. Dude, It's crazy. I just I
admire the wherewithal or not wherewithal, the endurance of these
guys to do it. But they use iPad. Also, sorry, you.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
Say, okay, real quick, where is your this your player
that you've been accompanying. Where he signed today?
Speaker 1 (05:36):
I don't know, you know, he's only a junior.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Oh wow, okay, so he's got forever to go still,
so I don't know what he's going to do.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
We'll see. He's signing with the Fruitland Grizzlies for next season.
That's what I'm talking about.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
Good hopefully, hopefully he gets coached out.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Okay, Jake, we've lost two games in a row. Now
I'm back to the Panthers. We've lost two games in
a row. When we scored, when Feelan caught that touchdown
pad to go up by three, my house was cheering
and celebrating like we haven't done in a long time
watching Panther games. Now we know what happened over time.
(06:11):
Fumbble blah blah blah. All that being said, Jake, I'm
still maintaining a we are heading in the right darn
direction attitude. Am I on the right track here?
Speaker 2 (06:22):
I think you're on the right track. I feel the
same way. Two different feelings. This past Sunday evening and
the Sunday prior when we played Kansas City. Sunday prior
after the Kansas City game was a feeling of you
know what, we're going in the right direction, Like that
(06:42):
was we're seeing progress and especially led by the quarterback. Right,
I mean, that's kind of that. That was the deal.
Like I saw him make plays against Kansas City, just
standing in the pocket, early anticipation, throws, dropping dimes. Okay,
and certainly you know I'm talking about the quarterback. The
rest of the team, we were doing some good things.
(07:03):
Fast forward to this past Sunday night and felt like
a death, like a sickness to my stomach because I'm like,
you know what, and it should feel that way, It's
what I'm getting at because we were better than that
football team. We gave that game away. A couple of
missfield goals, we had some special teams, you know, penalties
(07:24):
kind of you know, things that kind of hurt us
with the yardage, and then yes, she get the fumble
my Cuba when we're pretty much close to being in
field goal range. We kind of aren't field goal range.
You didn't know how close we wanted to get with
Eddie having a couple of struggles earlier in the game.
But yeah, it felt more like a we're better than
(07:45):
this football team, man like. And that's a good feeling
to have because you feel like you let one get away.
And Jordan, to be honest with you, I don't know
if we've felt that the last two to three years,
to be quite honest.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
No, exactly, that's what I felt like. I mean, I
thought you're gonna win Baker Mayfield, God bless him and
happy for him that his career is stabilized and he's
having so much success there. But I was like, gosh, shoot,
there's still thirty plus seconds left, you know what I mean.
And then he goes down there and ties it up.
Even then, though, Jake, I'm like, there's this confidence that
(08:17):
is seeped into myself about our team that I'm like,
all right, I think we got this. And then you know,
Tuba Tuba fumbles the ball. We paid him a good
bit of money a couple of weeks ago. That says
what we all think about him, you know, and how
well he's done, and that was obviously just devastating for
that overtime period. Nonetheless, like like you said, Jake, like
(08:39):
we let we kind of let him off the hook.
We were maybe even the better team. And then there
was the feeling catcher earlier and Pinero missed a kick.
There was men of a lot of things that let
the Bucks kind of hang around. And again I'm not
saying I'm not saying that I'm happy that we lost,
because you aren't. But I just see that it's like,
oh wait a minute, all right, the head coach is starting.
(09:01):
The team's starting to look like something and like you said,
the QB play and feelan has been an awesome injection
the last couple weeks to get him back. Jake. So,
I don't know, man, I just feel like I'm excited now.
I don't We don't need to be done talking about
the last game, but the next one ten and two
sa Kuon Barkley led Philly. That's going to be a
(09:22):
tough game, Jake. So, I don't know if you want
to keep talking about Bucks or move on, but a
lot to be said.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
We can address the Bucks game. Okay, we're seeing you're
seeing solid quarterback play, and I truly believe you're seeing
from defenses. Kansas City wanted to pressure and hit Bryce
and they did, and he stood in there and we
did a nice job protecting him. He did a nice
job of getting rid of the ball when he escaped.
When he escapes now a lot of times he's escaping
(09:48):
up into the pocket up and he's going forward where
I thought earlier in the season and a lot last
year he would escape out and back. And what I
mean by that just you put the tackles in a
bund think you would you would kind of agree with
me there, Jordan, but you're just you're seeing the offense
kind of improve and move forward. Feeling back is huge.
(10:10):
He makes plays, Bryce trust him. David Moore does a
good job. He's had a couple of drops here and there,
but he's a security blanker for Bryce. I think the
same thing with zaber Le get big body, strong body,
a little inconsistency. But sometimes with the rookie Jalen Kocher's
won to me that we miss a little bit. He's
I know he was an undrafted rookie, but man, this
(10:31):
guy makes some really good plays catching the football. Anxious
to get him back. Not so sure if it's this
week or not. We'll find out more as the week
goes on. Jonathan Brooks, he made a couple of little
splash plays. You can see he's gonna help. So like
what we're doing, like where we're going now on the
Philly strap it on because let me.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
Ask you, hold on, let me ask you one more
questions before we talked Philly. If you're Bryce Young at
the at the end of the game, there when he
scrambles and steps up see stealing throws it and hits it,
is there any part of you that's saying at that
point as the player, Ooh, that's too much time. I
gotta do something. Maybe I should just run it, you
know what I mean? Like that was something that I
(11:11):
heard a little bit after the game, was of the
clock management at the end of the game kind of thing.
There's no way you don't take that touchdown there.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
Jordan, Like not, man, I hear that, And I understand
that you never want to leave mahomes any time. You
never want to leave, you know, but you but if
you don't score as they took forever, why they took
so long? Why didn't they try to score? I mean,
like you're gonna get all that. All I know is this.
I one time in my whole playing career did I
(11:42):
not think about scoring too quick. And it was in
New Orleans two thousand and eight, last game of the season.
We needed to beat them to win the division. We
were already in. But if we won the division, we
got to buy and we were going down and I
believe the game was tied, Jordan, I'm almost positive, and
we're going down. And my whole mindset was don't give
(12:02):
Drew time, don't you know, Like, don't give him time.
We might've been down by like one or something because
like you know, or something like that. And we ran
a play one thirty seven choice and I threw it
to Moose for the first down on a curl route,
but we had a tidy end Gary Bordage running the corner.
And I'll be honest with you, you always want to
alert the corner, but it was more of a flat
(12:23):
curl read and I wouldn't alert in the corner because like,
I'm getting the first down. The moves. It was like
third and six or something like this, and they dropped
Gary Barnage and they left him wide open. Well, fake
flipped my hips around, threw it to Moves, got a
first and I'm like, as I'm throwing it out my eye,
I'm like, oh my gosh, they didn't cover him. But
(12:43):
then again, I'm like, well, would I have wanted to
throw it because we would have left Drew with so
much more time left, you know, And those are things
that you think about very seldom. But I just don't
think in that situation, with what we've been through the
last couple of years and a young quarterback, you gotta
go score, go score, take the lead and trust our
defense they can stop them.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
All right, Well, then that's it. I agree, but I
just you know, when I play quarterbacks, so I want
to make sure that I was seeing things correctly, all right.
Moving on, buckle up. You said Philadelphia Eagles, buckle up.
I would guess that part of that is referencing their
running back, who's having a decent seasons.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
Yeah, listen, Jordan, we're going to see a heavy dose
of it. Tampa Bay ran it pretty effectively on us,
especially in the second half. We're going to see a
heavy dose. This is a massive, massive offensive line from
my Alotta to Lane Johnson. I mean, just they're good, man,
(13:42):
They're good.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
They're very good, very good.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
Their their schemes well. Jeff Stoutlin's old line coach, he's fantastic.
They do a great job of running the football, and
Sakwan he makes you pay. The receiver AJ Brown unbelievably talented,
like eighteen yards of just this. And I think they're
getting Devonte Smith back, so and they're firing on all
(14:05):
cylinders right and the quarterback we're not even talking about him,
but he's just you got to bring him down and
he can run, and he's throwing it well, it's tough,
but not only that. Jordan the defense, I mean these
two guys from the University of Georgia, Jalen Carter and
Nobland Smith. I mean they're all over the place, and
I think they have the other d line and the
big massive human being Jordan Davis. And then the two
(14:28):
rookies who are playing great at corner, Quinon Mitchell Cooper
de Jen zach Bahn, the free agent signy from the
Saints is playing great. It's a this a tough task
in Philly, but why not why not see if we
can stack another game where you know we're gonna strap
it on and go go after it. See what we
can do.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
If do you have any experience playing in Philly in
uh winter times?
Speaker 2 (14:55):
Yes, yes, sir, I do, yes. I played there twice,
one time in January, and that was for the NFC
Championship game.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
I remember that. Did you did you win?
Speaker 2 (15:05):
Yes? Yes, we have team won correct And we played
them again early December on Monday Night football and I
ended up breaking.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
I know what I remember breaking.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
I broke my thumb in the first quarter on Darren
Walker's who became an ex teammate of ours, helmet and
we were going down to kick the field goal to
either tie it or the touchdown. And let's just say
there was a miscommunication on a route and somebody ran
a route that we didn't have in and yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
You're pointing fingers, you know, fingers pointed. Someone's three fingers
are pointing back at you.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
Well, you know what, Jordan, When you don't do anything
that we had in the game plan and you do
that and you cost us a game that, Yeah, that
that's a scar.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
That's the game that Leedo Shepherd had. Didn't you have
like two interceptions? Jake?
Speaker 2 (15:57):
I know he had one. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
But they played that stupidly, you know, So do you
do Yeah, j I'm on your team too. No, I'm
on your team too. I was part of the whole
losing situation there. So I thought we were going to
talk about the NFC Championship game a little bit.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
We have to address them, we have to address them.
But the championship game, I got no.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
Let me let me tell you something about I think
this was you must have left because it was a
daytime game. We threw a pick and I was the
last there was a Yeah, that's right. It was daytime game.
So this is Was this the same game? Was it daytime?
I can't remember. Anyways, we'd a picker of fumble one
(16:41):
of their guys running back. It's me between the end
zone and between it goes, it goes ball carrier Cory Simon,
big giant d tackle from Virginia Tech. You remember him?
Me end zone. I don't know what I was thinking.
I kind of go, I come in high on Corey Simon.
He launches me and I fly onto my back and
(17:02):
I get put on jacked up on Monday Night countdown
that week. So there you go. There's my story. All right, Hey,
let's love that we have.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
We have to address it, right, we just have.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
I'd rather the team. My advice to the team would
be don't go in and throw a pick or get
on jacked up. Instead, win and have the fans boo Philly,
because that's a better We had that experience once as well,
and that was better.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
That was a whole lot better. Donovan McNabb got hurt
in their crowd, the whole nasty, mean crowd. They went
to suck in their phone because they were like, it
was awesome. We can't win and we just controlled it.
The rest of the game.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
Weather high of fifty according to the Internet low of
thirty nine, twelve mile an hour wins potentially not bad
for December in.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
Maud, not bad at all. You're correct.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
Did you watch any of the game at the Buffalo
game with the snow I did.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
That was awesome, Yes, it was. It was awesome watching that,
and it was you know, bothersome watching McCaffrey go down,
but watching Josh Allen play and you know, happy for
those guys, Brandon Bean and McDermott and all the other Ties,
the Carolina ties that are up in Buffalo.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
Do you think that lateral was was that designed?
Speaker 2 (18:16):
No?
Speaker 1 (18:17):
Yeah, it was awesome.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
Yeah, when you're just having fun playing the game. Just
I mean, that's that's kind of what it was. I mean,
this quarterback's special player, man, he's always been special. And
then getting Cooper and yeah, it's a that was fun
to watch.
Speaker 1 (18:32):
That's what those deals as a head.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
Played in anything like that in my life ever.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
I did in high school and college obviously not the pros.
That's the beauty of being a Carolina Panther. You get
the NFC South two domes and Florida for your division opponents.
You know that lateral though. That hook at lateral was
like one of those places the head coach that you're
either elated or pissed that something goes wrong, you know,
and they scoop and score or something like that. Cod
(18:59):
mcnam Sean McDermott did not have any ear covering on.
I just want to make note of that he's had
baseball hat in that snowstorm. Tough guy. Points are through
the roof, Jake nice.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
Yeah, yeah, his ears were I guess purple.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
So well, you did a snow angel at the end,
so that's what's working there. Well, Jake's this one that
you you've made. You've built Philly up to be, you know,
the greatest team that we faced this year. They are
going they're good. Yeah, how can we pull this thing off? Jake?
There's always a way.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
Yeah, don't turn the ball over first and foremost, don't
turn it over and get a turnover, you know, get something.
I think that's one of the things. And listen, just
playing clean football. I just I like what we've done recently.
Try to get our run game established and you know,
third down efficiency, that long drive. We had so many
possessions last week against Tampa whereas against Kansas City it
(19:56):
was a very it was a short possession game. Each
team possessed the ball for long periods of time, and
I think Philly can possess it for many for long
sustained drives. So we have to sustain our drives ourselves,
and you do that by winning on first down, correct
and also your third down. You got to be fifty
percent more on third down. So we can absolutely we
(20:17):
can go in there and play well and then and
pull out a win. But we're gonna have to play
good football, and they're gonna have to maybe come back
down a little bit because they're playing really well.
Speaker 1 (20:25):
Well they are, and I know Tuba is going to
be looking to earn back a little bit of the
momentum that maybe he lost with that fumbled in the game.
So now, shit, I'm looking forward to Jay. Let's let's
keep rolling on our the productivity that we've been making,
and how cool to to be go up there and
get a win. Man, let's do this.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
It'd be awesome. Man, It's just let's let's keep it going. Jordan,
you know, I was sitting during the game, right after
the game and just feel like a gut punch and
I'm like I told Jordan, I thought we could win
the next at least, you know, three more games, and
this was one I think we got away. Well, you know,
we got five more chances, right, Jake, there we go.
We got to win three out of five.
Speaker 1 (21:04):
All right, we'll start now, might as well. Hey go
watch some film on you, right, ded Okay.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
Yeah, okay, quick teasing, And yes, sir, I will because
it's very clear and big and I like that. Thank you,
all
Speaker 1 (21:14):
Right, see you, buddy, fie
