Speaker 1 (00:00):
Wow, Jordan and Jake go good.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
I'm excited, ready to go the bump stops.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
He throws at a crossfield. Guess who, George Gross? Here are you?
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Panther Hall of Honor members Jordan Gross and Jake Delome.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Jake, I don't know if you know this, but I
went to UH. I think I told you last week, right,
I went skiing with my annual ski trip to Jackson Hole.
Since I talked to you last and I got to
give you an update on my legs. They're quite tired.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Well, Jordan, I appreciate the update. I have never been
to Jackson Hole. I've never snow skied in my life,
and so I don't know what else to say is.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
Do you have any draw? Do you have any draw
to that sport? So here's what you do. You put
on a bunch of clothes and you go out in
a snowstorm. A lot of times there's heavy fog so
you can't really see, and you're going down a mountain
super fast with uneven terrain, can't see stranger zipping all
(01:01):
around you. And then when you get to the bottom,
you get on a shared lift and you sit in
the cold snowstorm for about you know, five to fifteen
minutes while you go back up to the top of
the mountain.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Sounds fun, right, It does sound fun, and I one
day I want to try it. I guess my question
would be, like, do you get upset when somebody like
goes zipping past you?
Speaker 1 (01:24):
There's rules? Now, there's rules. Well, like you yield to
the downhill skier, Jake, And I'm surprised you didn't know that.
So like, if I'm coming up upon somebody who's moving
slower than me, my job is because it's not like
you know, you're driving a car. You're on the right side,
oncoming traffics on left. Everybody's going the same direction. There's
(01:45):
a whole mountain and it's rogue. You could stay on
the run. You could go off in the trees. That's
called off piece piste. That's what that's called. You can
go off piece. So the people in front of you
are erratic left and right, your job is to yield
to them. Yeah, Like, if I'm going here's what it
this frustrating, I'll be going through It was Richie Brockel,
(02:05):
Panther Great, myself, my son Teddy, and Mike doleiac Utah.
You basketball seven feet tall. And then another buddy of mine, Briant.
So you're going along and I'm hitting stuff. I'm like, yeah, man,
I'm doing pretty good. I'm sure getting good. And here'll
come like this young kid just zipping and doing little
(02:28):
jumps and all that stuff. I don't compete with that person,
but it is. You know, I'm not that good. I'm
not as good as that, but I am quite solar.
So that's your update on what I've been up to.
How about you?
Speaker 2 (02:42):
Yeah, I love it now. So this is Richie Brockle
of Richie broccol Fumble Ruski against Houston eleven.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
He's one of those guys whose entire career is summed
up in one play. And it is that guy. Yep,
Richie Brockle. You may know him as that. I currently
know him as boyse realtor and accountant, which is less
exciting than fumble Riskies. Love it, love it, love it.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
No, Jordan, I it's been busy here. I think we're
starting to gear up really and truly for the Christmas
holiday season, which has pretty much been in full swing
for a while. And yeah, it was in Charlotte this weekend,
and you know it was a gloomy day in Charlotte,
which I never think of Charlotte as a gloomy day,
but it was kind of a little wet, you know, cold, windy, gray,
(03:35):
and we kind of played that way, to be quite honest, Georgiana,
what were you and Charlotte for? Yeah, there was a
there was a football game. You didn't know that on
Sunday when we played the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
I listened to you because I was driving out there
on the way listen to the broadcast. Did a heck
of a job, buddy, But I could sense some frustration
in your voice.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Yeah, man, it was. It started out so great too,
three and out first drive on defense PBu by J. C. Horn,
and then we get the ball. We go thirteen play,
seventy yards and we fumble on the fourteen yard line,
really and truly after Bryce made a great play and
spin back inside away from Micah and then Leofu the linebacker,
punched it out and it's like, Buddy, we just there
(04:17):
was nothing else after that.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
You know.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
We did get the one fumble and scored on a
eight three yard touchdown pass the next play, but man,
other than that, it was a rough day of the office. Guys,
rub day of the office.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
Six sacks as the resident o line expert. That's what
surprised me, and I went back. I listened to it
while I was driving that I went back kind of
watching all of the highlights and things like that. Out
of character. The old line has definitely been something that
we've been hanging our hat on, and it's consistent. It
protected well. I think twenty two sacks only in thirteen games,
which in the NFL is really good. And then to
(04:49):
have six Michah Parsons got going a little bit. But
a lot of the turnovers, Jake. Four turnovers by Bryce
but Fumble, you know he was here. It's a straighting
game because we all knew, hey, we're favored. We talked
about that. You know, we lost to some tough teams.
We got to get this win. Took the wind out
of some people's sales. Jake. But where are you sitting
(05:11):
on the Panthers. It's just a couple of games left.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
Yeah, Jordan, I think we were we were kind of
riding the optimistic train, just the way we were kind
of playing football and going towards that, and I think
it started out that way and then it just kind
of went and it was the turnovers. I think that
was the biggest thing, the turnovers. You can't win many
games four to one, especially with the way we are,
and I think coach Kanal has kind of addressed this
(05:36):
on Monday in this press conference talking about, Hey, listen,
you know our run defense has been better somewhat as
of late. You know, you have the Tampa game notwithstanding,
but we just we didn't give our run defense a chance.
We've been doing a better job on offense, extending drives,
keeping the ball. We barely had any plays on offense
(05:58):
in this game. Cuba, I think only had ten carries,
and that's not a recipe for us right now. We're
not at that point with this roster construction to be there.
And I also believe that, you know, we played right
into Dallas's hands with the six sacks in the second half,
and Canalos said that, Dave said it, he goes, listen,
we had to try to get back in this game,
(06:20):
and it wasn't going to be kind of running the football.
We needed to try to throw it to get back.
And you're playing directly into their game. Michael Parsons, he's
just different man. He can line up anywhere off ball linebacker.
He can line up one technique, I mean over the nose,
he can line up at the end on a tackle,
on a guard, whatever it may be. And we did
(06:40):
a good job chipping him and running at him on
the first drive in the first half. But it's he's
just explosive and when he gets gone, he gets gone.
And then Odiggy Zoo and number ninety seven really played
well for them. He wreaks, he was wrecking shop. And
so it's one of those games we just got a
(07:00):
eat it, accept it, and try to move forward. And
once again we're moving forward. We're moving forward with some
more injuries, Jordan. It's just it's I.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
Mean, we're we're limping into the finish line here, Jake,
right with some, thank goodness, some some some matchups that
I are not overwhelming, right, the Cardinals at Tampa Bay
at Atlanta. You know, Atlanta's having their problems at quarterback
and Penix is going to start sounds like the rest
(07:31):
of the way, So who knows, Jake, But goodness, are
we gonna have enough players to play the game?
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Well, listen, I think we will.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
You know, It's just it's a that linebacker.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Yeah, it's that's a that's hard, that's frustrating, and I'm
gonna be quite honest, and he will never say it.
And I don't know him that well, but Josie Jewel,
when you watch him play, that's a guy that I
went on my side. I mean he is, I could
promise you he's not nearly close to being healthy.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
Just nobody is.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
Yeah, but just watching him play this week and during
the course of a play, I'm watching him kind of
like lip around and still make a play. And so
it's just it's just what's been the hand that's been
dealt to us this year, and we're gonna battle through.
We're gonna battle back. This game is a little scary
for me. Arizona is the team that's still in the
hunt for their division and a playoff hunt. They're seven
(08:24):
and seven. I believe you know, we all know about
the quarterback. He can kind of run around and throw
their tidy end. McBride's catching a ton of passes. But
man defensively, Buddha Baker I think is the star. He
just got extended yesterday, so a nice little Christmas.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
Bonus for him.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
But many they play a lot of different guys with
a lot of young draft picks, young players, and they're aggressive,
they're kind of all over the place, and so it
could be a tough matchup. I think we have to
truly kind of we got to get back to run
in the football, you know. I think we need to
try to hang our hat on this week. And you know,
even if it's a banging our head against the wall
(09:02):
a couple of times, I think we need to do
that to help give our defense. I think for me,
one is to get tube of going and kind of
control tom of possession and things of that nature. But
too but we got to help this defensive.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
And shortened the game, right Jake, I mean yeah, it's
like just a grimy win anyway possible. One of the
time I've I was optimistic the last three weeks and
the moral victory, and you were, you know, you were
less excited about I mean you were you were happy,
you were excited with the way we were playing, but
you weren't as on board, it seemed with Hey, we
(09:34):
played well against a good team. You know, he said
we got to win it. We gotta do this. Now.
I'm still I still feel good about what I've seen
from Bryce, and you know, the O line had a
rough day, and everybody, I mean I have those, everybody
has those. Still seems like there's good things working for
but just I mean, we're this is our last home game, Dude,
we gotta come on out. We gotta get it right.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
I agree, And you know, Jordan, I listened to a
lot of the guy talk after the game and things
like that, and I think the thing that I'm maybe
most encouraged by is the ownership of the product that's
being put on the field. And not from coaches, not
from Dave. I'm talking from the players. You know, Adam Feeling,
Bryce tried to throw him an under route and a
(10:16):
hand got you know, a hand was put in there,
the ball bounced up. Jordan Lewis put his hand in
that ball bounce stup. Eric Kendricks picked it off. And
when you listen to Feeling, he's like, he came off
to the sideline, was extremely upset and he said after, yeah,
it's my fault. I got to get more separation. I
got to get a better out. I gotta get more separation.
(10:37):
Those things I get in Bryce. When I watched Bryce
walk up to the podium after the game, We're still
in the boots. We're waiting to do some final thoughts
and interview coach, and I didn't have the valume on
of the volume on, but when Bryce walked up, he
was pissed. I mean it wasn't like, you know, just
got to play better. It was it was I'm furious
(10:58):
with myself right now. And you know what, I love
seeing it that to me, I don't know, just ownership.
And then listening to some of the different defensive players
talk on Monday, Ayshawn Robinson like, hey, we got to
do better. We got to do our job. Josie Jewel,
same thing, like nobody's come and save us. We got
to play better. And so that's ownership. I just think
that does something. And because we've seen not often, but
(11:22):
we've all been around that guy that listen, they're pointing
fingers opposite way. Not my fault, not my fault. Well,
you can't win with those losers, you know, and I don't.
I don't see us having many of those.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
No, you're right, the accountabilities there Robert Hunt after the
game or like you said, DeLand, I mean nobody. I
do believe that there's a good core there and all
the way back Jake like the season goes the way
it goes. But Derek Brown, I mean, this is a
long time ago, but Derek Brown out for the whole year.
That kind of set the tone for just ah, you
(11:55):
know what I mean. You know what I mean, Jake,
And now we're thin at the end of the year,
and this game is and we could say a million
different ways and what are the keys to winning? But
just I mean, these guys all they want for Christmas
is to get a w. Right, Like that's unfortunately. We
know how I know how it feels.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
Man.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
I was on a two win team in Carolina, and
like I wanted to give a kudos to the organization,
the tempers and players. I know that they had that
joy to the Carolinas event this week and gave a
bunch of toys and winter gear, dinner and stuff to
local kids at the stadium. It's hard, Jake, Like nobody
(12:32):
and nobody on that team should feel sorry for themselves. Right,
incredible job, opportunity, blessed beyond measure, you know, financially rewarded
in a great way. But when you're losing and to
go out and be in front of people and you know,
and face oh God, who's going to say what I was.
I was really happy to see the organization and the
(12:54):
players give back to the community and do that with
smile on their face. I know, Bryce was there, Taylor Mode,
a bunch of different guys were there, feeling was there
still good to remember that we are incredibly blessed and
these guys showed that by giving back community. Jake, But
it's hard when you're not winning. Man, it's tough, Jordan.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
It is hard because you know why, I think everyone
has some type of sense of pride in them, right,
and certainly you have alpha football players, and you know
there's your prideful and it's like you feel bad, you
truly feel bad, Like, man, I want to win at home.
I want to win for our fans. I want you know,
you want to win for your city, your region. I
(13:33):
mean that's and it's you're you're somewhat embarrassed, like, man,
we're trying, you know, but yeah, I'm like you, I
can echo those same sentiments.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
Well, we're still fifth in the draft. If the draft
was today, we're still fifth, holding on to that spot.
Leading there's a whole bunch of three and elevens that
are still there. Jake, so fifth overall pick. If nothing changes,
that's where we're at. It should be some good players available,
not looking all the way to their Jake. But it's
like this, I mean, there's only so much to talk
(14:03):
about when you have three wins, right, It's like, we'll
think about the draft. I did want to ask you
about your thoughts on the Heisman being a Boise guy
or an Idaho guy. You know, I was obviously rooting
for genty, But were you surprised at all Travis Hunter
won that thing?
Speaker 2 (14:19):
No, Joan, I wasn't surprised. I think it was just
you know, the whole dynamic and what he does playing
both ways, and it looked like that's the way it
was leading. And you feel bad for gent He's had
a great season. And Travis Hunter, though playing one hundred
and fifteen one hundred and twenty, plays a game on
both sides of the ball, highlight reel plays on both
sides of the ball. I think that kind of you know,
(14:39):
helped him win. And he's a great player. But Gent
will if he wants, you know, Jordan Boise State, they
can win it, all right. They're in the college football playoffs,
so he can make his name and put his etches
name in NCAA history. You know, certainly he didn't have
a Heisman, but he can make a run because he's
in the college football playoffs.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
No, I as much as I hand away Travis Hunter,
what he's done both sides the ball. And to think
that the guy, like you know, he's gonna get drafted
very high. What's he getting drafted as? That that's phenomenal
to not know is he a corner or is he
a receiver? Because it would be very, very difficult to
play both ways in the NFL, Jake, But can you
(15:19):
imagine that that level of athleticism to not even know
what you're getting, what you're drafting him as, or what
teams view him as. It's incredible.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
It is Jordan. I know for myself, like I would
draft him as a dB first, but I promise you
there's going to be a package of plays for him weekly.
There's going to be a small package just because one
of the problems it causes a defense. But man, I'm
just thinking of myself Jordan as a quarterback. The thing
that you hate more than anything from a cornerback is
(15:48):
ball skills. When those cornerbacks have ball skills. You have
to be like pinpoint right a cornerback, and we know
that going into the game. This guy has trouble. You know,
he doesn't have great hands, great ball skill. Well, you
take chances you really attack this guy. But the way
his ball skills are just second to none to me,
that is a weapon on defense. I don't know, that's
(16:10):
just kind of how I look at it.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
Is that someone that if we're drafting five, so I'm
on some random draft mock right now, they've got Travis
Hunter going fourth. Is he the kind of guy that
if you were a GM, you would make a move
get rid of some draft capital to try to go
up and get.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
Listen, he's a special player, Jordan, and I think special players.
I think if you have them rated a certain way,
you have to trust your board and you go out
and you get who the special players are. I think
you do that. Yeah, I would think we need some
help on the defensive side of the ball. But then again,
if there's an offensive guy that you like, I mean,
that's free agency involved, and I'm assuming we'll have some
money to spend. I don't think our dead cap. I
(16:52):
think our dead cap were going to be in a
great situation. I know we're kind of getting way ahead
of ourselves, but listen, good football players, it doesn't matter
you get. You draft good football players any and every
chance to cheep.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
Well, that's what you talk about though, when you when
the playoffs are out of the picture, Jake, you're like, hey,
all right, what's the good news? That's what we're heading to.
But Jake, Christmas, Christmas is next Wednesday, if I'm correct?
Is that right?
Speaker 2 (17:17):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (17:17):
Before we sign off? Are you all set, got all
your stuff purchasing? Ready to go?
Speaker 2 (17:23):
Yeah, Jordan, I'm good. I'm ready to go. Once again,
I'm very lucky. I don't have to do a ton
on my end. I am very spoiled in that regard
with my wife and my daughters. So but yes, I
am all set and ready to go. How about yourself?
Speaker 1 (17:37):
Yeah, pretty much. A few last minute things, some stocking
stuffers and whatnot, but definitely looking forward to it. Man.
I just I hope we get away with Jake. Are
you calling the game this week?
Speaker 2 (17:49):
No, I'm actually not calling the game. I was up
by myself last week. I believe Luke's got it this week.
So yeah, I for the holidays, Yeah, home for the
holidays and then I have the last two in Tampa
and in Atlanta. So but yeah, I'm looking forward to watching,
looking forward to watch us bounce back and play and
listen I'll make you to see who we play at
(18:11):
linebacker and things like that. It's a you know, Jordan,
it's I'm chuckling about it, but it's it's no laughing matter.
It's just crazy the amount of injuries that we had
and things like that at the linebacker situation now, but
somebody's going to get an opportunity to play.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
Well, we got we hopefully it's the right guys, Jake.
Can we get to win on Sunday. You enjoy the
weekend off and I think next week we're recording prior
to Christmas, so I'll talk to you before that, man,
But enjoy the weekend. I'll talk to you.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
Soon, Okay, buddy, have a great day.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
Thank you, you too,
