Speaker 1 (00:00):
Wow, Jordan and Jake, I'll go good.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
I'm excited, ready to go the bump stops.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
He throws at a crossfield.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
Guess who, George Gross?
Speaker 1 (00:12):
Here are you? Panther Hall of Honor members Jordan Gross
and Jake Dilome.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Jake, it's week eleven. We're five and five and I've
got a scratchy voice, so you know that's your update.
Take it from there.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Freaked Yes week eleven, five and five, we're five hundred
coming off of you know, a bummer. But before we
get to that, are we sick or are we yelling
at the referee again and getting flat?
Speaker 3 (00:43):
Not the referees? No, no, no, we are ten and zero.
Now now we're onto the semi finals. If we win
this game, we're in the championship. We're hosting a team
we beat early in the season at home, what was
the Tuesday Prep forty five thirteen, but their quarterback got hurt,
so it's a whole different team. Whole different team. Jake, Okay,
(01:06):
And at practice yesterday, I just didn't feel like we
were locked in. We were not locked in. We're a
little we're a little accidentisical lining up, and our coverages
had some drop passes, and I was just getting frustrated
and it was starting to build. And my team calls
it a crash out when I get to level high
(01:29):
levels of rage, and they got me there. It started
with yelling about catching the dang ball, and then it
was lineup with inside leverage if you're playing man, and
then I made us this is something I never do.
I don't think I've ever done it. I extended practice
and made us do a whole period over again at
the end because it was just not the standard. So
(01:52):
by the end we were humming on all cylinders, looking
like we were a well oiled machine. I had a
massive headache and my throat was all scratchy. But that's
the job of the head coach, Am I right?
Speaker 1 (02:03):
I agree?
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Now, question is this when you go out today as
we're recording this on Wednesday?
Speaker 1 (02:09):
Yeah, because you play Friday.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
So when they you know, you're still still a meat
and potatoes practice today, right, So.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Yeah, that's right.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
My question is this are we going with the scowl
on the face?
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Oh no, Okay, the minute it's over, it's I'm back
to I'm back to flat line or baseline not flat okay, baseline? Yeah,
like we already had weights this morning and then we
had a quick meeting, watched practice film, back to normal,
back to praise, reiterate the meaning of the message, but
(02:43):
make sure they know let's go. You got the reason
I say it is because you're dang good. You know
that can deal well.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
How obviously last week was a win. Give me the
how that playoff game went.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
Seventeen to nothing and a halftime us okay, drops dropped
some passes for some explosive plays. Could have been twenty
four thirty to nothing. Then we got to do a
little funk where they had like we left. We blew
some coverages, they kicked it on side. They scored twenty
four points, twenty seven points in fourteen minutes to get
(03:17):
within three. To get within three, we went back down
and scored and then picked off the ball for some
kneel down. So it was some tense moments, Jake and
I would and I would say that some of that
was maybe that we weren't dialed in when we needed
to be when the momentum swung the other way. So
that's funny. It's crazy being in sports, Jake, because you
(03:38):
just never like pressure's pressure, right, like our team was
feeling good and then the other team comes back and
you just never You always got to really be proactive
in your thoughts and your messaging to yourself and how
I'm handling this situation. You can't be reactionary when things
are starting to crumble around you. So we learned some
good lessons, but we're moving on. It's gonna be a
(04:00):
fun game.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
Love it, love it, love it, love it.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
I wanted. The one thing I did want to discuss
was the Northern Lights. Did you see that they are?
This was like I think that they had them at
Bank of America Stadium.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
I did see that on Panthers dot com. I think
they have a picture of it.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
And last night there was some vision in South Louisiana
of the northern lights.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
That's probably just like off gassing that normally happens down there,
isn't it.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
No, no, no, this is something now this time of year.
It's something that was very rare, but oh yeah, pretty cool.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
What's the scientific name for the northern lights? Do you know?
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Gosh, wait, I did I hear.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
Like a geomagnetic storm Aurora borealis?
Speaker 1 (04:50):
Never mind, I thought it was a geomagnetic storm.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Do you know what Aurora borealis is translated to in Latin.
I do not northern lights.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
Northern lights. No, wait, I know that you said. You
said in Latin.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
I know, I don't know if it's Latin. I'm just
making a messing with you, Jake. Okay, yeah, uh. And
obviously it's caused by charged particles from the Sun colliding
with gases like oxygen and nitrogen in Earth's atmosphere, which
creates a colorful glow.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
Well, good that. I'm glad that you're on Google right
now and you're reading. That's awesome. What do you mean, Jake,
Come on, Jordan, what do you mean.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
I know you're a smart guy, but I know exactly
what you're doing right now.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
Okay, fine, you are at the game on Sunday. The
highlight of the whole deal was you got to meet
Carolina Mike. I saw this little thing on social media. Jake,
he saw you, and he fell to his knees. And
I don't even know who Carolina Mike, Like, I don't
know the depth of the story. He fell down and
bowed like you were the Pharaoh of Egypt. Jake, what
(05:48):
the heck's going on?
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Well, Carolina, Mike, someone made me aware of him. Gosh,
I want.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
To say it was this summer or it was.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
A little while back, and I you know, and I
I saw it and I'm like, this is this is
hilarious because it's the video. And then I have a
couple of my posters on the back I think Smitty's
also on his back wall, and it just kind of
went with there and yeah, and so know the song,
(06:17):
familiar with it. And then he was there and I
said to myself, I said, I got to meet this guy.
And sure enough it worked out. I was able to
meet him, and he was able to meet many other players.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
You know, he's going with Luke.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
He took a picture with Tip and and then when
he's sang like the crowd was singing the words of
the song and he got a standing ovation.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
It was it was awesome, man, it was awesome.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
Well, he's a big fan of yours. He brought him
to his knees. Well, but then the game happened, Jake.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Yeah, then yeah, yeah, I was rough.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
J I think you were there. Yeah, you talk about it.
That's what bothered me more than anything. There's so many
interviews last week leading up to the game, with more
the Louisiana ties, right, because it's the Saints, and it
was like a four gone conclusion.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
Yeah, Saints one and eight. You know, easy went for
the Panthers.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
And I'm like, I know y'all some Saints fans and
this is you'all team, but do you watch the film.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
That's not a bad football team.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
I thought their front seven on defense was was stout,
unbelievably stout. And I think they had some issues offensively.
They've had some stuff on the offensive line, but they
were starting the young kid who I think they've done
a marvelous job of bringing him along.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
And I'm like, it's a division game. I'm just to me.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
I felt the Jets game, let's get the league play
keep away, that's what you felt watching the film.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
This Saints game.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
I'm like, we better be ready to play. And I
knew we were coming off of a monstrous winning Green Bay, right,
and so you just want to make sure, gosh, are
we are we doubt in?
Speaker 1 (07:53):
Are we focused in? And I get the Saints a
lot of credit.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
Yeah, I don't think we were at our best at all,
and players talked to about attention to detail. But I
go back to watching the film of this game, the
Saints played extremely well, especially defensively. I thought de Mario
Davis at his age looked like he's still very young
in spry, and they did well upfront. They gave us
(08:17):
some fits upfront and the run game in the past game,
they covered us well, and we had some plays that
we just didn't make.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
But it was one of those games if you don't
come ready to play weeken in week.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
Out, this is the NFL. Did anybody think that Miami
would be Buffalo by close to twenty points. Nos. So
it's a great example for our young football team. I
think we would now have twelve rookies on the roster now, like, hey,
this is not college where you're guaranteed to win you
have some baked in wins along that schedule. This is
(08:47):
every single week, and that's what it was. They made
some plays, we had some turnovers, and we didn't make
the plays when they needed to be made.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
But it was all three phases. I thought there were
all three phases. We could have been better. So hopefully
we learned from it and move forward.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
Do you think it was a bit of complacency then, Jake,
because that's kind of what I'm getting from here. I mean,
I mean, what do we know first of all, but
sounds what you're thinking.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
I don't know complacency because I don't think we're that.
I just don't believe we're a team like that. Yet
that can be their complacency should set in. It's just
a team still growing, still learning, finding its way. But
when you have such a young team like this and
it's like was and just listening now, it's easy to
(09:34):
say now because you hear certain guys after practice they
told my practice last week, we weren't as sharp.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
We have to redo some things.
Speaker 2 (09:42):
We weren't as Chris Well, that goes to show you
most of the time, the majority of the time, it
will transition over onto the field of play. And that's
kind of what it looked like. We were just not
as sharp. And that's that's tough. But it is what
it is. I mean, Jordan, I think you seen it.
You're the number one seed and your team struggled a
(10:03):
little bit. It sounds like in week one and then
week two in the playoffs. This week you're playing a
team that you got the better of by many points
and you had to get on them.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
I mean, that's human nature.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
Jordan and the thing about the NFL is it's hard
for a it's hard to properly explain how good players
are on teams that don't have a good record. Right,
So after you left, we went one season two and fourteen,
(10:36):
and on that team we had me, Ryan Khalil, D'Angelo Williams,
Jonathan Stewart, Thomas Davis, Chris Gamble, I mean, John Beeson
I think was on that team, you know what I mean,
Like just Steve Smith was on that team. Things can
(10:57):
go the wrong way in a hurry. And so I'm
we're talking about the Saints here. It's like, guys, every
team's good, but to your point, every D line's good.
And they and from what I could see, the Saints
were bound and determined to not give up a whole
bunch of rushing yards to Rico. He had the bulk
of the carries and Cuba, you know, I think he
had three carries. But they were committed to stop in
(11:18):
the run game. Man. They sure got it done.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
Yeah, they were committed to stopping the run and they
did a really good job. One thing, Rico like, you
love when he gets going downhill, right, he's violent and
gets moving. They did a good job of affecting him
to me on our side of the on the scrimmage,
they stopped and they did a great job on setting
edges all game long. They brought some pressures, but then
they did a good job tim of the hat. That's
(11:44):
still a football team, especially on defense, that has a
ton of talent.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
And just the more you watch, I'm telling you, man
to Mario Davis is a fun guy to watch.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
If ever you have time to watch, just film on him,
his presence and the things that he does us. We
had a screen set up to Rico on our sideline
in the third quarter, I believe, and the play that
he made, you know, Damian Lewis is engaging in him
to block him and he makes the play to tackle him.
If not, Rico runs the sidewalk, and I believe it's
(12:16):
a touchdown.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
You know, it's just critical place. Plays were made and
they made the place.
Speaker 3 (12:21):
Well, so what do we do now, Jake so Well,
I do have to say a fun stat is in
this game, Cuba became the NFL's all time leading rusher
from Canada.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
Did you guys talk about that on the We did
not bring that up in the broadcast. I did not
know that, and that's wrong on my part.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
All time leading rusher born in Canada, Asterix born in Canada.
Three yards Okay.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
Great, Now my question is this, who did he? Who's
in second place? Now? Who was the leader?
Speaker 3 (12:51):
Well?
Speaker 2 (12:55):
Wow, yes, what what college did Ruben Mays go to?
Speaker 3 (13:00):
Yeah? Well I know already, but I'll let you tell me.
He went to Washington right, you don't get Well that
would make sense from Canada, right, Yeah, I'm almost positive
because he was a Saints sky and Ruben Mays tied
back to the Panthers.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
Ruben Mays or was it Washington State is.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
One of those you know, here you go, I'm gonna
google it like I did the Northern Lights. Okay, here
you go ahead, No, I think Washington, Washington, Washington State.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
He's a counter and guess who he was a teammate
of Sam Sam Mills, legendary Keith Pounding of the Saints
with the Saints.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
Really yeah, well there you go. Well it's funnyough that
and my quick Google search says he's now a US
citizen by the way, Okay, so there you go.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
You know, even with a less productive rush game, I
didn't realize and I should realize this that Rico is
third in the NFL and rushing right now with seven
and fifty eighty eight yards or so, Jake, that's pretty impressive.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
Yeah, very impressive, especially because we were.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
Starting our eighth different offensive line combination this past week
out going into our tenth game.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
So I think it's very, very impressive.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
And listen, after watching some of the film of the
Falcons from last week and Jonathan Taylor rushed for over
two hundred yards against them. Yeah, I'd like to see
Rico kind of start to get back on track if
we can in Atlanta, and you know, we're going to
face the team one is the vision.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
We'll go back to that.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
But Jordan, we we got after them and they were
embarrassed when they came to the Bank of America Stadium
last month in the thirty zero Yeah, drubbing. So yeah,
it's a I'm hopeful with them playing five quarters going
into overtime last week across the pond in Berlin, in Berlin,
flying back, and you know, I'm hope there's a little
(15:01):
bit of a hangover there and I have a feeling,
strong feeling that we're.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
Going to respond and we're going to answer. I think
this team has a lot of pride.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
It started to grow, and you can tell by the
comments and the reaction. I love what jac Horn said
because I hold him in high regard. I think JC
is one of the top corners in the league. And
he basically said, don't blame the defense, blame me. I mean,
like he came out and said it, And I thought
that was huge on his part, especially for the young
kids to see. There were a couple of plays that
(15:30):
he felt he should he should have made, and I
love hearing him say that. That's taking responsibility and that's
the first step. You didn't really mention Bryce a whole lot.
He is the quarterback and so he's going to get
all the phrase and all the criticism.
Speaker 3 (15:47):
There's some people fired up about the loss, and you know,
talking about his play. So what do you say to
Bryce if you were able to sit down and have
a visit with him, Just it's a terrible position, Jake.
Everybody thinks they want to be the quarterback until you're
the quarterback. He obviously didn't have an outstanding game, But
what are you saying to him right now? The five
and five at this point in the season.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
You know, and I don't know if I need to
say a whole lot.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
Just watching his presser after the game, the body language,
you can tell it was it was a little different
than I think I've seen.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
And then he had a foundation deal last night.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
Bryce did and I'll watched a little interview last night
with him, and.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
He was he was different.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
You could tell, Okay, we got to learn from it.
We gotta flush it, and we got to move forward.
And that's that's what you have to do. Man. This game, Jordan,
I think we all know we can throw in some punkers, right,
we can throw in a stinker every now and then.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
If we don't play well, you gotta flush it. You
got to move forward. And we've done that a couple
of times this year.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
We didn't play well against Buffalo, we didn't play well
at all against New England, and this team has flushed
it and and you know and answered.
Speaker 1 (16:55):
So, I mean that's the biggest thing. Just and he knows, uh,
he feels responsibility.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
I mean the interception that he threw, that's something that
I promise you that ate him alive.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
And then whatever happened on.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
The fumble and the Jets sweep with him and Jimmy
he takes full responsibility of that as he should.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
That's what a quarterback has to do.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
So yeah, I just think, hey, go back to work,
go back, get on the practice field, let's get better,
and let's show up in Atlanta.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
And it's easy. Watch the film at the last game
of the season last year.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
You know, that was some magical plays that he made
last year, throwing the football in and out of the pocket,
running the football.
Speaker 1 (17:33):
So yeah, I think, not a whole lot. It's we
got an answer. That's just me, Garden, that's just me.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
Well, that's why I asked you. One thing I do
know about our current Carolina Panthers. You never know what
in the heck's going to happen from one week to
the next, right, and the roller coaster that goes with it.
It is the NFL and we are five and five.
And I bet a fair amount of people if we
would have said, hey, what do you think about five
and five, they would have been like, hot dog, let's
do it. You know what I mean. It's like that.
(18:02):
It's not too bad right now to still be in
contention for what's happening in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
Right, Yeah, I agree.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
I guess just the thing and yes, when you when
you when you take that thirty thousand foot view and
you backed up, Oh, before the season, would we like
to be five and five at this point in the year.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
I think the players would say otherwise.
Speaker 2 (18:22):
But what we've seen the last couple of years from
two wins in twenty three and five wins and twenty four. Hey, listen,
we're making some progress. But you know, let's be let's
be honest, let's be real. We you know, we kind
of felt we wouldn't be five and five right now,
right we felt we'd be.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
Six and four.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
I mean, that's kind of We had an opportunity and
that advantage to take advantage of it, and we did
not last week.
Speaker 1 (18:47):
So we made it a little tougher on ourselves.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
But that's the NFL and it will never come easy
and you just have to be ready to go, and
hopefully we are because there's nothing greater than to go
in to Atlanta and beating him in their city.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
Uh Bjon Robinson's not a bad player, Jake, do you
know who he is?
Speaker 1 (19:05):
Yeah, he's decent. His balance currently.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
Lifting weights, I'm currently lifting weights, well, not right now.
Yesterday I was lifting weights and Apple music and its
algorithms spit out to me. Bjon Robinson's pregame playlist and
him are kind of on the same vibe right now,
so you know, yeah.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
He's a special player.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
Gardon, he spent his balance, his unbelievable Tyler out here.
Their other running back, their wide receiver, Trake London, has
made catch after catches.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
This big body.
Speaker 2 (19:37):
I truly envision that's what t macs going to look
like in another year. So that's that's where this big
long who you're gonna get physically stronger, You're gonna make
these big, contested catches, And I think that's kind of
I truly believe.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
That's what t MA is gonna gonna turn into.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
I mean, we can't expect to be thirty to nothing
win again over these guys, right, I mean that they're
too good for that.
Speaker 1 (20:02):
I think. So, I just I'm like you, I think
that's they didn't play well. We played well.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
Our special teams are fantastic that day with our kickoffs,
and they were having trouble and they were starting backed
up and we did a good job affecting the quarterbacks.
So yeah, Jorded, not listen, this is going to be
a dog fight. I think this game goes right down
to the end. But yeah, to get a road win
in the division would would be huge, especially off of
the performance that we had last week.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
What's your status? Are you in Atlanta or you got yes.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
Sir, no, I'm in Atlanta, man, I'm in Atlanta along
with Luke and Aniche and all the guys and looking
forward to it. It's yeah, I love it, man. Just
think about it though, Jordan. I mean, this team, we've
been on a grind, right. We don't have a buy
and there's a few more weeks and so it is
just an absolute grind for this team, and you know,
bodies are hurting. But you just you got to answer, right,
(20:53):
I mean, you just you got to answer. And I'm
anxious to see kind of get some interview. Listen to
the interviews toward the latter part of this week and
from the coaches on how the players have responded and
how our practices are going, because that's going to be
asked by all the reporters. Wish they should, but I'm
anxious to hear, you know, and hear on mindset going
into this game.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
Are you gonna take Marta like I told you to?
You last time.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
No, I'm not gonna take Marta. I don't believe I
did that a couple of years ago. Yeah, probably won't
do that.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
When I saw the guy with bress and literally have
with brass knuckles on when I was on Marta, I said,
you know, maybe I'll take an uber next time. There
you go. I appreciate the heads up. We'll have a
good trip, man. I look forward to talking to you
next week. Well, hopefully I'm getting ready for a state
championship game and my voice is a little more full.
Speaker 1 (21:43):
Yeah, I hope.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
So.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
I hopefully you guys get ready to play. I'm kind
of glad what you did yesterday.
Speaker 2 (21:49):
It sounds like you got their attention home in and
hopefully practice goes well for you the next couple of
days before the game.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
You gotta do what you gotta do, Jake, to get
ready to get ready.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
Four
