Speaker 1 (00:02):
The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
This is Media Mash, a roundtable of Cowboys insiders, drumping
wisdom and offering sizzling takes on the current state of
your Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
Now your host new he scrugs.

Speaker 4 (00:25):
Welcome to beautiful ox SNAr, California. Another practice day for
the Dallas Cowboys. This is the Media Mash, our first
one of the twenty twenty five season. We got Nick Harris,
other four war star Telegram here, former NFL player, former
Dallas Cowboy draft pick, three time Emmy Award winner, and
you see him on the NFL Network because he's moving
on like Jefferson's.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Isaiah soomstar soupstar.

Speaker 4 (00:49):
Yes, yeah, you in Los Angeles, it's the perfect place
to do all that. So let's start with Tuesday. Okay,
let's let's let's work our way back to Tuesday.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
In and out. Are you sure you won't to do that?

Speaker 1 (00:59):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (00:59):
I do, I do. I do. That's why that's why
you're here. That's why we're.

Speaker 4 (01:03):
Doing this show. And the Rams came to town and
the Rams.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
Yeah yeah, yeah, that was it. That was it. Rams
put in at work on you.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
So Nick, you tell me your initial thoughts in what
you saw Kach Schattenheimer said, we were vanilla.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Yeah, but hit me.

Speaker 5 (01:24):
And I'm glad you said that because I expected that
going in. So that's why I was looking mainly at
trench work, because trench work, it doesn't matter if you're
a vanilla, doesn't matter if your chocolate strawberry, it doesn't matter.
It's it's those one on one matchups, the intensity and
the trenches that still shows up at the end of
the day and these joint practices. That's not what I
saw on both sides of the ball, especially in the
run game. I started on the offensive side for the Cowboys,
and it was Chared Verse just blowing things up, multiple

(01:47):
tackles for loss in the early team periods, and then
I switched over to the defensive side, and it was
much of the same thing, especially in the defensive interior.
There was no push generated up front by those guys.
The only defensive tackle that I really saw showing up
was Parry on Wine, which is not a good sign.
And you know, there's a lot to learn, there's a
lot to take away from that. But when you preach
having a physical camp. When you preach having this intensity

(02:08):
that you want to bring to the field, and then
a RAMS team comes in here and just overpowers you physically.
It's a little concerning. I don't know if there's any
red flags you can take away from a joint practice
this early in the season, this early in camp, but
I think there are some things that you can say
that's not a good sign going towards the going towards
the season.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
Media masage brought to you by Tostitos. All right, Isaiah,
stand back.

Speaker 4 (02:27):
You and I chatted a little bit during the during
that practice with the Rams, and so give me your takeaways.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
Let me preface my comments first by saying, we can't
get in there and really watch the film the nitty gritty,
the way in which we would during the normal season.
We don't have access to that film. But so we
are really basing a lot of our comments off of
what we just saw, right, And you're looking at twenty
two guys going at at all at one time, so
you miss some things. But from what I saw, like
to your point, Nick, these the Rams won the trenches

(02:57):
hands down.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
One of the trenches. That's where my eyes went as well.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Also, I spent about seventy percent on Dallas Cowboys defensive
side of the field. I mean, I really just try
to get an idea of what this defensive front was
going to look like, because that's something I pay a
lot of attentions to. Because we've seen this defensive end
room kind of get turned on its head in a
good way.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
Now. The seemingly is a lot of depth.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
They seemingly have had a lot of success against our
offense during training camp. That's not what I saw when
I saw them versus the Rams. I felt like all
of the guys on a defensive front who had all
these moves and grooves that were doing things against our
offensive tackles and guards, I felt like they got neuralized.
Whatever happened and men in black, you know, somebody came
up neuralized them and they forgot all their moves.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
You know.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
They they everybody went to a bull rush. Everybody went
to the one hand, to the middle of the chest.
They were playing right down the center of guys. They
were getting washed out outside the tackle box. In the quarterbacks,
Stepsan Bennett and Jimmy Garoppolo, they all had the time
that they needed to sit back there, you know, bake
a cake and throw the ball to DeVante Adams pooking
thea cou to to that well you know, you know,

(03:58):
Kennington and whoever they wanted to throw the ball to.
They had time to do so. So the defensive front
did not get a push the defensive backs. Yes, there's
a lot of new concepts. Yes they're running very basic
vanilla coverages, but reactionary time, you know, technique, breaks on
the ball.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
All that kind of stuff.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
Those things staying true regardless of how vanilla you are.
And I felt like our dbs were a little bit
late out their breaks. They were seeing things developed slowly
even though they're in real time, were happening fast Offensively,
I didn't get a lot of time to see what
was taking place, but I did see some splash plays
when our guys had time to throw the ball. Whenever
there was a pocket that was created, our our receivers

(04:35):
were winning those one on one matchups.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
That was something that was encouraging to see.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
When time was created for the quarterbacks, receivers had time,
they were actually to get open. Other than that special teams,
I was I was very satisfied with what I saw there.
I know I know it's not a popular topic, but
you know you have. But you have comane Terpin who's
All Pro, you have BA who's Brandon Aubrey who's an

(05:01):
All Pro, and you have another BA who was a
pro bowler a couple of years ago. I think that
you have an opportunity. And again, I know this is
not a sexy topic to have a clean sweep with
these guys in the NFC in terms of being the
best at their position groups, returner, punter, kicker, not the
sexiest thing what people want to hear. But I think
that that's probably one of the greatest strengths of your

(05:21):
team right now.

Speaker 4 (05:23):
And new staff, you can take some comfort in that.
And special teams three phases you want to win that
phase and having those three specialists out there. Parcels when
he was here, was very big on special team, so
I've learned not to take that for granted. And Isaiah,
you made your bread butter too in terms of having
to play on special teams to make teams, so that

(05:44):
being a positive, especially in a practice where the Cowboys
were more down than up. And Brian Schottheimer, I give
him credit. He didn't try to share code in terms
of like say, you know we weren't good.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
Now. He did say, you know, we were vanilla.

Speaker 4 (05:57):
But I was like, I didn't know if they were
actually running out there with mint chocolate chip they maybe
they would vanilla, but they do it that French one
there at French Mill, and I looked up.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
I was like, who's thirteen? You know you look at
the I said, steps the.

Speaker 4 (06:12):
Little dude from the Georgia who was supposed to make
it look I mean, look at like a surgeon.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
I was like, whoa, whoa?

Speaker 5 (06:18):
So five picks in the preseason game last year.

Speaker 4 (06:21):
Right right, So I'm like, okay, things have changed. And
so go to yesterday. We got to talk to the
defensive coaches and the offensive coaches and Aaron white Cotton
and all both of us were there.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
When it came defensive time.

Speaker 4 (06:33):
It was a swore around around Aaron white Cotton because
people wanted to know and legitimately, hey, man.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
Uh what happened? Did he say? What happened? Was he basically?
I give them credit.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
They kind of had the company line down, and like,
you know, pad level eyes need to be better. So
I asked, I asked coach Whitecott, what do you need
to see comes Saturday, and he spoke about there, you
know they run a different front. I not different, but
they said the defensive defensive shot Hubert about the defense
different front and offensive line coach about seeing things different

(07:11):
from there, but defensive line and say, look the way
they're lined up a gap, so you got to do
things different. So they're using it as a a teaching tool,
is what he said in his expectations. So that's to
me what I'll be looking for to see in come
Saturday is how do they make their adjustments. You've got
a little bit on film to see. Now if they
come up with the same things, how do you.

Speaker 5 (07:29):
Know Schotenheimer has built this program off of their identity being, Hey,
we're gonna be physical, we're gonna run the football, we're
gonna stop the run. We didn't see that on Tuesday,
so you would you would hope to see some improvement.
You don't have to flip your flip it on a
head and be one hundred percent successful on Saturday, but
you need to see improvement on Saturday. And if you don't,
that's when you start putting up the red flags, I think.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
But shoutout to Shotty as well. You see what I
did there shout out to shoddy.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
Uh he did a I respect him for how he
responded to the media because you see him. He's probably
one of the most bubbly, outspoken, accessible coaches that I
think we've seen at some time in the media. And
you saw his mood change really when you know, post
practice when he had addressed to media. But he owned it.

(08:14):
He said, you know, they got the they got the
best of us. He also admitted the things that you
brought up new in terms of PAD level and being
vanilla and all that stuff. But football's football, which is
why you hear these coaches speaking to mental errors.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
There's no excuse for that.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
Hear these coaches talking about PAD level, There's no excuse
for that. So those are things that are all correct
the ball and that you can't make excuses for. But
he also sat up there and said, I got frustrated,
and he said, you know, I took some shots and
I ran some plays that I didn't anticipate running because
I didn't want them to see it. But when you're
frustrated and you're getting pushed in your mouth, you want

(08:47):
to put somebody back in their mouth, right, which is
why he called the deep bomb to Jalen Brugs from
you know with Joe Milden. You know, those are things
that he was like, he admittedly said, I wasn't supposed
to do that, but I was frustrated.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
Joe. Joe put that SF on it at least one yeah,
and he said it again.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
He said, you know, we planned to be vanilla in
the preseason, and he made a joke about it.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
Unless I get frustrated.

Speaker 4 (09:11):
So I said, this is this is one of the
things I love about doing the medium ash and working
with former players. So explain pad level to people who
may not understand the term correct.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
So both on the offensive line, it's really is at
every position, but especially in the trenches.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
Like like Nick was saying, you low man wins.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
Everybody's heard that terminology and you might not understand what
that means. Low man in football means that I can
control you if I'm underneath you. It is very hard
to be powerful and strong when you're standing vertical. So
the lowest man has the greatest foundation, which means he
has the most strength. So when you're an offensive lineman
and you're trying to get underneath a defensive lineman, if

(09:53):
I am underneath him, I have a better chance of
being able to hold my point, which means I don't
get pushed back into the hole, which means I don't
get pushed back into my quarterback. And I can most
likely drive him opposing direction so that we can get
the yards that we need, or we can keep him
at bay on the defensive front. If I'm a defensive
lineman and I am too high, I'm probably gonna get
lifted up like the lion king. Okay, like we had

(10:16):
thrown out of the club, you know, Jesse Jeff out
the front door and we saw. I mean, I I
don't want to point it out, but because I like
the young man Damon Clark, He's one of my young boys.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
I love DC. I love DC. But it's our video.
It is out there, you know what I'm saying, The
videos out there. He came in.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
Listen on four K, eight K whatever, ten eighty P
seven twenty four eighty whatever you want to have, Okay,
for y'all that I still have flip phones. DC came
in on a blitz Kyraen Williams identified him as the blitzer.
Kyron Williams had the right path at the right pad level.
It was underneath him, So we talk about pad level
Dumont Clark. I don't know whether or not he was
still in the mindset of where this isn't a game,

(10:55):
you know, so I'm coming, I'm showing that, I'm blitzing,
but I'm gonna pull off.

Speaker 3 (10:59):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (10:59):
I'm pretty sure that's what he will say. But Kyra
Williams was at the mindset of this is live practice,
about to get this. I'm about to protect my quarterback.
You're about to get this work. And Kyral Williams dropped
his hips, dropped his pad level, got underneath the monk
Clark even though the moon Clark is a larger human,
and lifted him up and put him on his back
and patted theman's chest and said, gone, gone, come back
another day player.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
It was tough videos. You blessed him.

Speaker 5 (11:21):
That was tough.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
The comments comments on the video, Yeah, it.

Speaker 5 (11:25):
Was funny because he was coming off the field, He's
like that's on Twitter, right.

Speaker 6 (11:27):
I was like, yeah, this man, yes, yes, everybody sou
but Schottenheimer owned it.

Speaker 3 (11:38):
Said we'll get better, We'll coach from it.

Speaker 4 (11:41):
Then he spoke about, hey, you know you're not gonna
get to the super Bowl today. So one thing I
will and I was, and we all have our friends
who will come and ask you what are you seeing
out there and hit panting mode.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
It's still a new coaching staff.

Speaker 4 (11:54):
They're still coaching these guys, seeing exactly what they want,
and this to me is their opportunity to get better,
coach better guys.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
Is what we saw. I this is what we need
to do.

Speaker 4 (12:05):
Let's take this in a Saturday, so that to me
is going to be the keys, especially upfront.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
What do we see upfront?

Speaker 4 (12:11):
Are you still getting bullied punching him out come Saturday
in Los Angeles? Or you're gonna fight back and make
this competitive?

Speaker 5 (12:17):
Yeah? Yeah, I agree, And I think from a from
a quarterback standpoint, you know you loved what you saw
from Joe Milton before he had a stumb injury. If
he can translate that into Saturday as well, then you're
you're gonna have some success. In the past game. Offensively,
he was finding multiple guys. Whether it was the Jalen
Brooks big bomb, he got Turpent involved. We don't know
if Turpa will necessarily play on Saturday, but throughout throughout

(12:38):
these last couple of practices here at camp. Joe Milton
started to stack a couple of good days. So that's
a good sign for Saturday.

Speaker 4 (12:43):
All right, let's take our first break when we come back.
Key player that we're looking for, each of you a
performance that you want to say, Hey, I'm paying attention

To media Mash, all right, you are on the media, Mash.
I was about to say the other show, how about
podcast that I do the players lines, but that's later
on today, coming up at two pm Central time. But
we're out here right now at Oxhard, California, on the
practice field for the media Mash brought to you by Tostitos.

Speaker 3 (14:55):
We finally got ourselves a sponts mean this year. Yeah,
we are up this year. Just that that sound is
such just like you know what you're getting.

Speaker 1 (15:02):
You know you can have this a blind blind tests
and you just know that you got some tostitos right there.

Speaker 3 (15:07):
Just sound like tosto.

Speaker 4 (15:08):
So you're still an athlete, so you know you don't
you don't indulge like I indulge.

Speaker 3 (15:12):
I mean, I'm I'm I'm an indulger man. I partake
from time to time. You know, I'm trying to watch
my figure.

Speaker 4 (15:17):
He partakes for in the trenches with it though, I'm dedicated.
I'm in this football season, so I'm dedicated to the game.
So I make my own I smoke my own meat,
cooked my own meat.

Speaker 7 (15:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
Yeah, so I'm dedicated to the game like that.

Speaker 4 (15:35):
Cowboys first preseason game coming up Saturday in beautiful Sofi
Stadium in Inglewood, California.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
Here. I hope we get some ac this year. You
know it was hot. They do a multi billion dollar stadium.
I love the stadium. It's beautiful.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
It's next to my other workplace, and they there's no
air there's no air in there. Hot, I'm sweating. I'll
tell you what's worse I've been in. There's worse.

Speaker 3 (16:00):
The National Championship game in which Stetson Bennett tore up TCU.

Speaker 1 (16:04):
All those bodies in there. It rained, Oh, coming in
sideways and it was cold. Oh so it was it's
it's you know, it's January.

Speaker 3 (16:13):
Yeah, so it's cold in LA. It's an outdoor indoor stadium. Yeah,
it's cold. It's raining, and it is honest, piltings.

Speaker 4 (16:19):
They gave us blankets, sheets were wet, and by by
the second quarter of the game was over and I
told my photographer, yeah, I'm going to watch the rest
of the game. No, not in the press spots, then
the bowels of the stadium because we got to go
do interviews afterwards.

Speaker 3 (16:33):
I said, I'm not.

Speaker 8 (16:34):
I'm not.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
I'm not going to beat Yes on TV right there? Yes,
I did. I watch it on TV. It was over.

Speaker 4 (16:39):
It was like sixty five to thirteen. And so I understand.
We say it was hot, but cold and wet. You
played in New England.

Speaker 3 (16:46):
Cold wet A goods.

Speaker 5 (16:48):
The way that stadium is built, the ground level is
on the concourse and so the ground level is great
because you have that breeze coming through and it's beautiful.
We're on that field level drop. All you have is
that glass ceiling above you, and you're just getting cooked.
It's like a It's like just a big oven. There's
no air circulating on the field, so that air is
just going right off over the top of you, about

(17:09):
twenty feet in the air, and you're not feeling any
of that. I can imagine playing on that field.

Speaker 3 (17:14):
Uh uh, not me.

Speaker 9 (17:15):
Wait till the Olympics go sole issues with that the Olympics.
So if y'all see our suits sweated out, you guys,
you guys have the y'all have the information. Y'all need
to understand and justify why we're sweating through Stadium one.

Speaker 5 (17:30):
Small it's not even a small issue issue Saturday.

Speaker 3 (17:34):
Who needs it? Tostito's epic performance.

Speaker 5 (17:36):
Nick, I'm gonna go with Jayden Blue. Jaden Blue has
had a phenomenal camp here in Oxnard. This running back competition,
you know, you can call it a competition up to
this point, but you really can't start to decipher these
guys until they are in a live game environment. There's
only so much that you could take away from the
running back position here at camp because you can't tackle,
you can't bring him down. It's more thudding rather than hitting,

(17:58):
and uh, you know these guys are gonna have to
read between the tackles a little bit more pure On
Saturday in a game environment, I want to see how
Jaden Blue attacks that. He's had a good camp out here,
He's shown good things. But if that can translate into
let's say, you know, if he gets eight carries, if
he could turn that into fifty yards and get a score,
then you know that that'd be an encouraging performance.

Speaker 1 (18:17):
I believe that the I'm gonna go to a defensive
side because the easy answer would be Joe Milden.

Speaker 3 (18:22):
For me, there's a lot that I need to see
from him.

Speaker 1 (18:25):
But on the defensive side, I want to see Donovan Azeraku.
I want to say him, and I want to say
I want to see say Sam Williams. I'm gonna say
both of those guys. I'm gonna steal that combination of
those guys. I believe that you need to know what
you have opposite of Micah and I know that's that's
a bad word around here right now, but he will

(18:45):
he will be there come to season, no question about it.

Speaker 3 (18:48):
They'll figure out whatever it needs to be figured out.

Speaker 1 (18:50):
But you need to know who's gonna be playing opposite
him aside from Dante Fowler Junior. Do you have questions
there Aboutku and Sam Williams.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
I want to know what they truly are.

Speaker 1 (19:00):
Want to know that they're not a I want to
know that Sam Williams is not just a boll rusher.
I want to know that Donovan Azeraku's not going to
get neuralized like he did against the Rams.

Speaker 3 (19:09):
Right, He's a young guy.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
We know what he's capable of, but I want to
see it in the game at the professional level.

Speaker 3 (19:14):
So I want to know.

Speaker 1 (19:15):
I want to get a boat of confidence with both
of those individuals. Somebody who hasn't been on the field
because due to injuries, and somebody who's fresh to the
NFL who's young. I want to see, can you go
too layers? Can you go two or three rotations deep
which your defensive ends when the season comes and presents
itself right, how nasty can Matt Eberflus get with these

(19:36):
fronts and personnel groupings, and how much trouble can he
provide to the offensive line and their protections. You need
to know what are these guys, what capabilities do they possess?

Speaker 3 (19:47):
For me, it's the offensive line.

Speaker 4 (19:50):
When Shinty comes is and as the head coach is
fris Conference is We're going to be a running football team.
We're going to be physical here. The Cowboys are basically
out here putting two more rookies with Booker and Thomas
and thomasin played last year. This is all of this
is basically in a rookie year. So we saw what
the issues were last year when they had two rookies,
and until you're doing it again and you've got a

(20:11):
new offensive line coach who's never coached in the National
Football League, I'm going to be very interested to see
how this first game looks.

Speaker 3 (20:19):
Can they give Joe Milton time to throw?

Speaker 4 (20:21):
Can they open up some holes so we could see
something from Jayden Blue and I fast forward to the
first game of the year, which will be Philadelphia. You
can't block the Eagles, baby, You're in trouble. And you
know what the history has shown us the last five years.
You leave that Cowboy defense on the field for thirty
minutes plus, you're usually going to find yourself on the

(20:43):
losing into football games. If they're going to protect the defense,
they've got to run the football and control the clock.
So for me, I'm looking at that offensive I need
it to be elite. I need them to at least
give the backs an opportunity to give Blue a hole
to see, give Milton an extra second to throw.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
Because you talked about Isaiah when when they had a
little bit of time they can deliver. They could deliver.

Speaker 4 (21:05):
And these receivers, you know they're good, yes, but you
know anytime a big fangios go figure out, hey, how
do I how do I how do I make this
offensive line? How do I run some stunts? How do
I get these guys off something they have not seen before?
So for me, it starts with the rams, and we
know whether it's vanilla or French vanilla. The Rams go
set up here and be physical with you, and so
meet the challenge.

Speaker 7 (21:25):
You.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
I have to add on to it. It's so hard
to pick one person. I picked two. Obviously I'm gonna
pick two more. Okay, going to I went to the
d NS. Now I'm coming to the interior. Right, we
always we know that the interior defensive line has been
a topic of discussion for some years. Now for the Cowboys,
we obviously know who the starters are going to be.
Most likely it's gonna be Osa Digi Zu with the
brand new paycheck. And then you brought in Solomon Thomas.

(21:46):
Those are your two tried and true guys that you
can trust. Behind them, Behind them, you have the Mazzie Smith,
who is your first round pick from you know from
three years ago.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
Now, what's he gonna do? You also had Jay Toya, right,
what's he gonna do?

Speaker 1 (22:01):
You know? He reminds me of Gilbert Brown when I
see him out there with the pads on, you know,
the big body exactly.

Speaker 3 (22:07):
But can those guys stop the run? Right, Mazzi?

Speaker 1 (22:11):
He's at the point of his career now where at
that time in regardless of your first round pick or
your seventh round pick, if the team's invested in you,
you have to show something you have. You have to show.

Speaker 3 (22:25):
Listen, I have my sentiments, I have my sentiments, but
just to give.

Speaker 1 (22:31):
Him respect and coming up to this year, this these
three games, these three games are important for him to
disprove what everybody's beliefs are about him to this point.
And and you guys say, oh, it's not a regular season.
This is his regular season. And this is people are
asking questions about, you know, why isn't Micah getting paid?

(22:51):
In order to listen, I understand it from both ends,
from the player standpoint and from the business standpoint.

Speaker 3 (22:56):
I need to see what I have do I need?

Speaker 1 (22:58):
If if I'm the Jones right and I'm the upper management,
do I have that position taken care of?

Speaker 5 (23:04):
If not talking about Detackle, yes, if not, I.

Speaker 1 (23:07):
Need to look at my at my bank account and
go find figure out how I can go fill that void.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
Right. So like there's a lot of moving parts right now.

Speaker 1 (23:14):
You have two interior DEFENSI alignments that you were confident
with behind them who.

Speaker 4 (23:19):
Bill Parcells used to quote Tom Landry and he said,
all right, by year three we got to see something yep.
And it's interesting when you said D's like, yeah, he
was around Belichick who learned from Parcels.

Speaker 3 (23:31):
And that's the thing.

Speaker 4 (23:33):
It's year three and people can say, well it's this
third coordinator. Hey, it's time to show something. And Mozzi
when we interviewed him NICKI the other day, I said,
you've been out here, so he said the right things
saying is in doing. We have to see it, and
I don't care how vanilla they are.

Speaker 3 (23:54):
Nick, you talked about trench works. Trenchwork.

Speaker 4 (23:56):
You gotta show something here and it needs to start
on Saturday. I mean, there's no more excuses, there's no
more this or that. Show something because if not, I say, right,
this schedule and the teams they're playing, if you can't
stop me, we know what Philly's going to do. You
know what's coming Game one, you know what's coming. And

(24:16):
if Mazi can't be a contributor and help out, that's
going to be a problem. If they're going to be
a team that wants to compete for a playoff spot
and get back in and get back into the playoffs,
Mozzie Smith has to be a big part of the equation.
He has to be a contributing factor for this football team.

Speaker 3 (24:30):
On defense.

Speaker 5 (24:31):
Yeah, I mean when you talk about wanting to be physical,
it starts with the guys at the spine of the defense,
especially defensively, and it begins with Mozzie Smith. That's the
first guy you run into when you run down that spine.
And what was the quote he had the other day
when we were talking to him, It was like uh,
you know, is this going to be a breakout year
for you? He said something along the lines of, I
don't have any other choice, or like, it's when else
am I going to do it? So he at least
knows that there's some urgency, that there's some pressure around

(24:52):
what his spot looks like. But the thing about the
NFL right now, at the defensive tackle position, Let's say
the Cowboys moved on from Mossie Smith at the end
of camp. They're not going to. Let's say that they did,
he'd get picked up and he would play somewhere. You know,
that's how bad defensive tackle position is around the league.

Speaker 3 (25:05):
Now.

Speaker 5 (25:05):
It's not to you know, give any excuses to this
team because they had a first round pick there and
they picked it on a guy that has not performed
to the guys that were picked behind him at his position.
But you know, there's a lot of teams that are
in similar straits. But for Mazzie Smith, when you factor
in the draft pick value, when you factor in the
experience he's had here now and a defensive front, defensive

(25:26):
line coach that has put a lot of effort and
attention into him this training camp, you want to see more.
You have to see more.

Speaker 3 (25:31):
You have to see, you have to This is year three.
We need to see something here. Let's get our break
in here.

Speaker 4 (25:37):

I new he Scruggs. You got Isaiah? Stand back? How
many of means you up for here at the end
of the month?

Speaker 1 (27:13):
Man?

Speaker 3 (27:13):
Only two? Man? I put in three? Man, But I'm
only got nominated for two. I'm mad.

Speaker 5 (27:17):
Right, we'll be there. We'll get one.

Speaker 3 (27:19):
Nick.

Speaker 5 (27:20):
Nick, you you nominate to one documentary?

Speaker 3 (27:23):
Okay, documentary, Oh the cow the Cowboys do really well?
Weep really well? Who's the competition? Looked at? Who you
conpeting against?

Speaker 5 (27:31):
You got a couple of other cowboys documentaries? We got
a uh a Mavericks documentary I think, and then A
and M made one too. You know, you know I've
scouted the comp picked up I do not that's a problem. Yeah,
but I'm taking my mama. I just figured that out yesterday.
So it's gonna be me and my mama and Echo Lounge.
It's gonna be a good time.

Speaker 3 (27:49):
I gotta figureut who I'm taking.

Speaker 5 (27:50):
The first is my first one. I take my first one.

Speaker 1 (27:53):
I took my wife, then I took my mom. Yeah,
this would be my third appearance. I gotta figure out.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
Who I'm rolling with that time. Yeah, so hard. But
you take you're taking the moms. That's good for your choice, man, Yeah,
good choice, bro.

Speaker 4 (28:04):
So hopefully there's not a practice. You got the day off,
tell you tell your boss like, hey, I'm on this dad, and.

Speaker 5 (28:09):
Yeah, that's all regardless of well, I don't think there's
gonna be a practice that day, but hopefully not.

Speaker 3 (28:13):
Let's hope not. Let's hope not.

Speaker 4 (28:14):
And you know, Isaiah last year was the wheelbarrow guy
because there was a practice that he just kept coming
up there, excepting the wars for Drew and everybody else,
like man, who got the wheelbrow take all these emmys back.

Speaker 1 (28:24):
Here the Dallas they have the open practice night that
yeah they did, they did so.

Speaker 4 (28:30):
Yeah, so you were up there, Isaiah back here again
again in that day, Yes you did. You made a
lot of speeches and thankfully you made your own as well.
So Nick is going to be good. I remember when
we got to see Kyle Yeomens when his first when
I gave him big hug off the stage in Isaiah too,
and yeah, so it was pretty cool man.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
So good luck.

Speaker 4 (28:49):
But the Cowboys always do well at the Lone Star Emmys,
and that's going to be the twenty fifth, uh echoed
lounge right across from Dallast matters practice silly all right,
back to the Cowboys here, and you spoke Isaiah about
one Michael Parsons here. You played the National Football League,
he played for the Cowvi, he's played for the Patriots.
You've seen contract situations happening, you definitely have seen them.

Speaker 3 (29:09):
Here you are. You said that you're the belief this
is gonna get done. Yeah, yeah, it's gonna get done.
I mean, there's no question about it.

Speaker 1 (29:16):
This is all posturing, this is all this is how
negotiations go down.

Speaker 3 (29:21):
In twenty twenty five.

Speaker 1 (29:23):
You have you know, mister Jones, who's obviously had his
fair share of the seemingly it's every single year that
is going to be the case even going into the
next year. You guys can expect the same thing with
Tyler Smith that George Pickens wants to stick around. He
has a good year. You got two big names that
you're gonna have to figure that out next year. So
get used to it, Cowboys Nation. But from a player standpoint,
you have never seen a player what do they call

(29:46):
it a lock in or a stand in? Whatever you
want to refer to it as hold in, hold in,
and be this bold with it.

Speaker 3 (29:55):
Right.

Speaker 1 (29:55):
So I think Jerry Jones, and you've heard Jerry Jones
talk about respect for Michael Parsons. You've heard Jerry Jones
talk about how smart Michael Parsons is. You talked, you
heard him talk about how he is a unique individual,
and he respects him as a business. All the stuff
you're seeing it, you're seeing it, and Micah is going
about his business. What people don't see is Micah's in meetings.
What people don't see is Micah's in walkthroughs. What you

(30:17):
people don't see is Mike is still doing his workouts,
He's still doing his walkthroughs. He's still doing all the
things that you would do except for practicing.

Speaker 4 (30:26):
Nick it was what white Cotton said about that yesterday. Yeah,
go ahead, Yeah.

Speaker 5 (30:30):
I asked him about, you know, what value has Michael
provided in these meetings by still being here? And he
said he's been great. He said, whether it's you know,
him being like hey, I see this, like hey keep
an eye on this, tackle doing this. Uh, And he
said he's really put his arm around some of the
younger guys. He wouldn't dive into names, but Shoty did
last week and he talked about Azaraku and how Micah
has really been able to help him here in his

(30:50):
rookie camp and helped kind of guide him along. But
whenever you talk to the coaching staff, I mean, it's
been nothing but great reviews about what Micah has provided
while he's been here. While since he's he hasn't been
on the field.

Speaker 4 (31:01):
So I got to ask you this, Isaiah, because you're
over there working the NFL networking and Nick and I
we as media members, we have frustrations at times as
we watch some of the national people who push these narratives.
You're like, you know, like you don't know because you're
not there, So how do you go about educating your audience?
And even to some of the producers when they come
on to come up with the Cowboys storylines about what

(31:22):
the real is because you're.

Speaker 1 (31:23):
Here, No, I'm every time I go to the network.
I'm fighting on behalf of the Cowboys organization. And it's
because obviously I have more insight, but I also understand
it from like I said, both both perspectives. Most people
take the fan route because that's what they know. I
understand it from the fan, the player and the business.
So I'm able to have this different perspective about how

(31:46):
Jerry goes about his business. And I also understand how
hard it is to put together a winning roster. And
people think that you could just show up and get
to the divisional game, and people you don't want to
dart the Cowboys about how they haven't been there.

Speaker 3 (31:58):
Look at the division right, Look at how challenging it is.

Speaker 1 (32:01):
You know, in the last you know whatever fifteen years,
the you've had what four trips to the Super Bowl
out of your division?

Speaker 3 (32:10):
Is that correct?

Speaker 1 (32:11):
You know what I'm saying, Your division, not even I mean,
that's just difficult that you're facing every year. So putting
together a roster, having these guys at the top of
their pay brackets is just tough to put together a roster.

Speaker 3 (32:20):
So I'm always fighting on their behalf.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
But I educate the my crew, you know, in terms
of NFL network, whenever I see them, give them whatever
behind the scenes information that I have to help them
change their perspective because they are in a position to
push the narrative forward to the public eye. Because the
public they receive the information from us. They're not here
seeing the things that we see. Even in regards to Micah,
there's things that we see that we can't always speak on,

(32:44):
but we have that back in knowledge, right, so we're able.

Speaker 3 (32:48):
To speak from it logically and not emotionally. So I
want to point this out and give me both of you,
give me your thoughts.

Speaker 4 (32:56):
With the Tuesday practice and the families were over there
hanging out and uh one gentleman comedy talk saying, oh
this is Michael's mom. Then I'm thinking to myself, well,
you want to be traded, you want to be no
what what you know?

Speaker 3 (33:08):
Family wouldn't be here. I'm just saying to myself, this
is like the Miles Garrette. I want to be traded?
How much? Okay, thank you?

Speaker 5 (33:16):
That's my I'm glad we were able to speak this
up right.

Speaker 3 (33:19):
I was just thinking, if you were done, I don't
want to be here anymore.

Speaker 4 (33:22):
You wouldn't bring moms out here in the family, would you.

Speaker 3 (33:25):
You were not? You were not. And that's why I said, like,
is you really done? Like we're done. If you're done,
he wouldn't be here. You know, we've heard my I
say that. You know.

Speaker 1 (33:32):
He he he protects his money, his cheddar, his paper,
all that kind of stuff. So he's not going to
get fined by not being here. But he also has
a bolt of confidence that he is going to get
the payday because he is here, he's present, The coaches
are still rolling him through or walk throughs all these
kind of things. Like he's gonna get his money. There's
no question. He just understands this is a part of
the business. And mister Jones understands this is a part

(33:54):
of the business. You know, I'm mister Jones is not
afraid to talk to the media. He's not afraid to
answer these hard questions. He's not afraid to mind everybody
that he's in a position of power and that they
have a current contract. It's gonna get done, y'all. You
have to say what you got to say. You have
to do what you have to do in order for
something to get done. But ultimately his pockets are gonna
be heavy. He's got to wear some some nice little denims.
They hold that money up.

Speaker 5 (34:14):
The only question I do have, though, I agree with you, Isaiah.
I think it gets done. The only question I do
have though, is if it's not done by week one,
does he hold out of games? And I think that's
probably a concern we would have.

Speaker 3 (34:24):
As of right now, I don't foresee it going that far.

Speaker 1 (34:27):
I think the Joneses will take it up to that
point we saw with Dak.

Speaker 5 (34:32):
Where we're literally up to that point.

Speaker 1 (34:34):
Literally on game day right, So it might get to
that point. But Micah's in shape, Micah's inform. Micah knows
the communication, he knows the play calls, he knows all
the stuff so to be able to insert him. He
is out of everybody who's had to get their deal
done over the recent years, Dak Prescott, Ceedee Lamb, Zach Martin,
those three guys in particular, Micah's necessity to be in

(34:57):
practice is the least of all those guys.

Speaker 5 (35:00):
Let's be honest, he don't practice anyway.

Speaker 3 (35:02):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (35:03):
But as a defensive end, I don't need to practice
because I can speak to or watch film to communicate
with my guys. As offensive lineman, I need to work
as a unit. As a receiver, I need to have
timing with my quarterback. As a quarterback, I need to
have timing with my receivers. Micah is the least netting.
I don't even know how to know how to say it.
He doesn't need to be a brand.

Speaker 3 (35:24):
You two guys are too young to remember.

Speaker 4 (35:26):
But I remember when Laurence Taylor missed a whole training
camp and I think the first game was on Monday
Night football and he put he got on the field, he.

Speaker 3 (35:32):
Just put on a show.

Speaker 8 (35:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (35:34):
It was like, yeah, this is and I can't I said, yeah,
this is gonna be a problem because more people can
say I don't need to be a camp because you
just watched Lawrence Taylor put on an absolute show and
and Micah Parsons has ability to put on an absolute
show without having to be here day to day in camp.
So he's he's that kind a football player. Special player.

Speaker 3 (35:56):
Here.

Speaker 4 (35:56):
So Nick who signs first Hendrickson, Trey Andrisonati, Terry McLaurin, MICHAEH. Parson,
that's a good one right now, have asked for trades.

Speaker 5 (36:07):
I would probably go with Hendrickson because I think Cincinnati
has finally got their their handle around everything else that
they were dealing with this offseason and now it's full
focus on Hendrickson. Hendrickson has been back at camp. I
would assume that that one gets done for really.

Speaker 1 (36:20):
Yeah, I'm gonna say Micah Hendrickson. And I think Scary
Terry is my dude. I think he gets traded.

Speaker 5 (36:28):
Yeah, I could see that.

Speaker 3 (36:29):
I think he genuinely gets traded. I don't.

Speaker 1 (36:32):
I don't think Cincinnati has the money that Henderson wants.

Speaker 5 (36:36):
That's fair.

Speaker 3 (36:37):
So I think that that's gonna take.

Speaker 1 (36:38):
That might go into the season for them to see that, hey,
we need this production. Mike is gonna get done before
the season starts, because there's no way to Mister Jones
allows some cowboys to touch to take the field on
opening night, Opening night against the Eagles without Michael Parsons
is not happening. It's listen, it's not happening. And I

(37:00):
that's that's where And I think Scary Terry. I think
I think they're legit and beefing. I think that's I
think that is legit.

Speaker 3 (37:06):
Beef All right, guys, this was fun. This was fun.
I gotta go catch a flight here, Oh little.

Speaker 4 (37:10):
Private, Yeah, I got feelings feeling American private, American Yeah.
Nick Harris for Ward Star Telegracion, stand back Dallas Cowboys
and NFL that we're both Emmy nominated.

Speaker 3 (37:22):
Guys right here, Hopefully.

Speaker 5 (37:23):
Were you recording us this whole time?

Speaker 3 (37:25):
Was not? But I can let me. I got you.
I'm newly scrutch. Thanks to Chris Bey and everybody who
helped out. Right here. This is Dallas Cowboys dot Com Radio.

Speaker 7 (37:33):
This has been a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and
