Speaker 1 (00:10):
The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Cowboys, This is.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Media Match, a roundtable of Cowboys insiders, trumping wisdom and
offering sizzling takes on the current state of your Dallas Cowboys.
Now your host new E scrugs.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
All right, everybody's the media match. You're on a Thursday,
going into a Monday night football game where the two
and five Arizona Cardinals come to Jerry World against the
Cowboys who are three four and one, and the Cardinals
have beaten the Cowboys the last three meetings. The last
Cowboy win was twenty seventeen when Dallas won at Arizona
twenty eight to seventeen. That would be Dak Prescott's second

(00:55):
year in the National.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
I thought it was Kyler world over there.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Yeah, I mean he's nine and oho nine and oh
and then the Cardinals media guy, they they've got all
the wins listed of Kyler.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
From high school to college. What was that?

Speaker 4 (01:09):
Eight of those nine Wow, I've been at eight of
those nine years.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
Stay home on Monday night, yeah right right.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Oh, it's going to happen. Yeah, you know that loss
is happening.

Speaker 4 (01:18):
I think so too.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
You want to be there for it?

Speaker 4 (01:20):
Yeah, man as well. Right, I've come this far.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
I mean paper watching four star Telegram might want Nick
Harris to be there. By the way, it's Edwarder. I'm new,
he scrugs. This is the media last year. Yeah. So
so I'm trying to figure out. So he's won with
Allen four times.

Speaker 5 (01:33):
I can run through you run Yeah, thanks, all right,
I gotta get thank you. His sophomore year, high School
beat Houston Lamar in a state championship. His junior year,
he beat Parland High School in a state championship. His
senior year, he beat De Soto in the playoffs, Keller
Central in the playoffs, and Cyprus Ranch in the state championship.
And then at Texas A and M. He technically won
that game he played in. It did not start though,

(01:54):
when they played Arkansas. Then he played Oklahoma or he
played Texas in the Big Twelve championship when he was
a junior at Oklahoma, and then he has beaten them
twice since being in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
But Dak missed one of those games, as he pointed out.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
He made sure to point out, he missed one of
those games.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
I got it made. That was pretty funny. That was hurt.
That was hurt. That was hurt.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
So so I'm exonerated guys.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Guys, hey man, guys trying to protect themselves. Man, they'll
put that. Don't put that on me.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
He's won and he's one and oh beat me once.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Right, one and o one and not two and oh.
So uh, I get that one hundred cent. Johathan Gannon
was asked today if he's preparing for a Kyler Murray start.
He said, yeah, cool, Yeah, So Kyler Murray is going
to come in here, uh and play. My concern is
coming off a foot injury. What can he do?

Speaker 4 (02:38):
Can I say that?

Speaker 5 (02:38):
I think Jacoby Brissett may have been the scarier matchup
for the Cowboys this week, then with the way you
throw the ball, the way that he was playing these
last couple of weeks, in the last couple of games
that he did play, I think Kyler is the better
match up for the Cowboys right now with the foot
injury and being able to be limited with his mobility
and since coming off that ACL a couple of years ago,
that has not been the same Kyler Murray. So you know,
I think the Cowboys are going to get a version

(02:59):
of Kyler Murray that they haven't seen.

Speaker 6 (03:01):
Jacoby Brissett had two hundred and seventy five yards passing
in each of his two starts. Kyler Murray has not
had more than two hundred and twenty yards passing in
a single game. So if you're looking for a quarterback
to throw against you, you'd rather have Murray. If you
want somebody run against you, if you're tallous, you'd rather
be facing Pressett.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
And with McBride the tied end, Brissette was finding him.
He was he started to gain some momentum.

Speaker 6 (03:26):
Well, it says everything about Kyler Murray, a number one
overall pick and supposedly building. You know, they're building to
franchise around him, and the fans there are reluctant to
have him come back. They'd rather since you get is
a they'd rather have Jacoby Brissett continue as the starter
because he does introduce the element of the passing game.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
What I found interesting when I used to do my
NBC Sports ratio, I had a line that I always use,
It's interesting on who we choose to forgive and who
we choose to condemn. Fans do not forgive Dak Prescott
for his contract always making sixty money mean it brings
all the time. Fans want us hang that thing on Dak.
One point in time, when Dak was signed to become
the high paid player, Kyler Murray passed and we forget

(04:03):
the Kyler murrayson here with a big, big contract. People
forget that about It's almost like it never happened for him.

Speaker 6 (04:10):
And what I remember about that contract is the provisions
that were put in there requiring him the call of
duty clause wiring his compliance with spending a certain number
of hours on the game plan?

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Will you study? You actually open themaz iPad and by
the way, you can track those things. You know. That's
what some people don't get, like, yes, it's a team
issued iPad, so they've got these these things that they
put in these settings in here so they know when
you're on it. It's it's wild. I'm teaching the class
now at ACU and I can go in here and

(04:42):
look and see when a student is logged on and
when they've actually have been in there to do their work.

Speaker 4 (04:48):
So thank goodness they didn't have that when I was
in college.

Speaker 6 (04:50):
I'd still be in college if they Yeah, A.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
Lot of us. Well, I mean, the only to me,
the only kind of key thing is to show, Okay,
they actually did see that. Here was the assigning you saw.
You did open it up and see it. Whether you
completed it or not, it's a whole different thing, but
you did open it, you did see it. And then
it also tells them when they put in the work
because there's because it's an online class and so you
can get hit with late penalties too, like when did

(05:14):
you turn it in? All that kind of stuff.

Speaker 6 (05:16):
To the point you guys were discussing about Kyler Murray
and what he's capable of in terms of being a runner. Obviously,
when he's healthy, he's one of the most dynamic running
quarterbacks in all of football. I think he's a faster
He might be faster than Lamar Jackson even and that's
saying something. But they might catch a break here, just
like they did with Jade and Daniel right coming back
from injury. There weren't a lot of his own reads,

(05:37):
if any. I mean, you look at Murray's numbers and
he still leads a team in rushing yards even though
he's missed two games. He's their leading rusher with one
hundred and seventy three yards. They've had no running games
since James Connor went.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
Out, and that was the thing. Yeah, with Connor getting
hurt right there, they've they've had nothing. And then you
had Amaro deep Carmado who ran, almost ran a touchdown
in until he dropped the ball at the one yard line, but.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
Then almost got the coach fired or the coach almost
got himself fired. However, you want to look at that.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
Yeah, yeah, so it's it's tough, but I'm looking at
that myself saying, Okay, hey, look, this is a game
that not only you have to win, it's it's it's
set up for you to win, almost like Washington when
you're down three passing targets and you got an injured quarterback. Okay,
you know it's setting up for you pretty good. And
we know that the Cowboys can't beat a good team. Okay,

(06:24):
they're just not built a big road. But they can
throw forty at home. They can put up forty points
at home and beat a bad team. Here come the
Arizona Cardinals. This is the gift.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
That's what this is.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
This is the gift. Take the gift. Please take the gift.
You know no, no red zone pre snap penalties will
help you know, stuff like that.

Speaker 5 (06:40):
I will say I think, you know, watching more of
the Arizona Cardinals this week, I feel like there's a
good team beneath the surface there that's dealing with a
lot of injuries and dealing with things that have been
out of their control.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
Those five losses, all of them have been by four points.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
Yeah, to walk offs on field goals, but to go
back like that Tennessee game, yeah, you know you can't.

Speaker 4 (06:56):
You can't lose Tennessee.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
That and then how they lost it, you know, kick
around the ball. There's a lot of just bad moves
that they made in there. But this is also at
what bad teams do.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
Correct.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
You can't close the show and you' you know, you
don't win. And for the Cowboys took the fact that
they can't beat a team with the winning record. Go
back to the Philadelphia game. You had the ball with
the opportunity to go down the field to win the game,
and then you can't do it and you're here shooting
yourselves and foot getting inside the red zone, you know,
prestat penalties, fumbling inside the red I mean, just things

(07:29):
that get you beat that's what they did, even the
Packer game. Here it is, you got a good team
right here on the road. Dack's ready to run in,
but Jake Ferguson's block against Michael Parsons is adequate enough
and he tackles Zack and he doesn't get in the
end zone. The game ins, and it's high. So this
is how you get to be three, four and one
and two and five.

Speaker 6 (07:47):
To score forty points in all your games at home
and not win them all says everything about this team.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
Yeah, but Jerry said, talking about the defense, it's not
as bad as it looks.

Speaker 7 (08:00):
Is that?

Speaker 2 (08:00):
So not as bad?

Speaker 3 (08:02):
I said, your definition of bad.

Speaker 6 (08:04):
I think, Hey, you know, they gave up forty points
and four hundred yards. Is only the second time since
twenty eighteen Denver's done that. So they've done it once
post Peyton Manning, until they did it to you the
other day.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
You're selling hundred dollars park and you go tell everybody,
don't look as bad as it look. I'm selling nine
dollar market and I'm getting it, Okay, getting it too.
So it is what it is. And but this is
a game that I think that they have to get and.

Speaker 6 (08:32):
This one and the Raiders like, there's there's three or
there's four winnable games still on their schedule. If they
can win the four winnable games and one or two
of the others, then they got a shot.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
At the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
This is the winning streak that they have to have
to in a row. Yeah, you're in second place. And
then we see, you know, we just saw Mariota had
another performance that was just bad. So who knows when
Daniels was able to come back and play at the
level that we thought.

Speaker 3 (08:55):
You Washington's already lost more games than lost all last.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
Year, right right, So I mean, if you're the Cowboys.

Speaker 6 (09:00):
But they can't catch Philly unless something catastrophic happens, which
did two years ago at the.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
End of the year. And that was never counting on it.
But I was, you know, my thought probably if you
were your your hope was always going to be a wildcard.
If I didn't, I didn't make them playoff team, I
didn't pick it to the playoff team. But if you did,
it was never going to be them winning the division.
So I was gonna have to be some kind of
wildcard thing and get like and lord knows, once they
traded Michael Carson shooting.

Speaker 5 (09:23):
Somehow they were only a game and a half out
of the wildcard right now. Crazy to think about considering
some of these games that they have let slip through
their cracks through these first eight weeks.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
Green band, Caroline, you know those are two right there.
If they win those two, we're talking about a whole
different thing, a whole different type of feeling around here.

Speaker 6 (09:42):
But they could have also just as easily lost to
the Giants too, so as they did win, and they
have beaten nobody.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
There are three wins Nobody.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
Two New York teams, Yeah, yeah, two New York teams,
and Washington. And then you had an injury injury depleted Washington.
You know, everybody beating's got a losing record. Yeah, but
even when they were making up they still count the same.
But even when they were making the playoffs. On the
mccarth you look at you say, well, how many of
these teams are good?

Speaker 3 (10:07):
Where the team's this has been their identity for a
long time, exactly that.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
Twenty three year.

Speaker 5 (10:11):
The most signature win I think you could point to, goodness,
the the Troy game, the Troy game on the on
that Saturday night. Other than that there were not many that.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
Year when Dan Campbell decided to make it hard exactly,
Danny can do this the easy way. I had to
go make it hard. So yes, all right, let's get
a break in here. When we come back. Dak Prescott
said something pretty interesting, and the trade deadline is coming
up here. We'll talk about that next with Nick and Ed.
I'm nearing. This is the media.

but it's.

Speaker 4 (13:16):
Gonna be fun.

Speaker 3 (13:17):
Oh country act? You could say Taylor Swift?

Speaker 2 (13:21):
No, Oh, Big X the plug.

Speaker 4 (13:25):
I would love that. I'd go down to the field level.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Do you know who Big is?

Speaker 4 (13:30):
A Dallas legend?

Speaker 3 (13:31):
He is post alone?

Speaker 4 (13:33):
I know who that is Yeah, it's another Dallas legend.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
So ed, if it's Big X the Plug, we're gonna
need you. I'm gonna need you to get down there. Man,
Big X the Plug would be great. That'll be fun.
That'll be fun. You know, he's got a little, guess,
a little country samples you can throw out there. It
would work, it would work. So my joke when Joe
trey Han used to be the PR guy here, he
put out he Joe also did a lot of the
stuff for AT and T S teams, so he put
out all the press releases, and you know there's always

(13:55):
like a country concert. When is Jerry going to host
the Source Awards? Close to the Source Awards?

Speaker 4 (14:02):
I don't know what those are.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
That's the that's the Wrap Awards. Oh okay, remember when
you forget I'm sorry, you're you're young, I'm sorry. The
one time Sugar Night got up there and made fun
of Puffy That that was that. Okay, it's it's nothing.
You aren't the one. Okay, we'll talk to you. Guys

(14:24):
aren't with me. You guys aren't with me? Okay. Dak
Prescott smoked, smooth, Smooth, Dak smoked.

Speaker 5 (14:32):
This isn't it tough to feel alienated when you don't
have your boy shock.

Speaker 4 (14:36):
It's making me feel young all the time.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
Miss Clarence, bad clience couldn't act right to say that yes, yes,
r I P Clarence.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
What does that mean, poor one?

Speaker 2 (14:51):
So Dak got close to to uh saying Jerry, we
need help today, Ed he got close. We got close.

Speaker 6 (15:01):
A guy who in the locker room in Denver was
talking about while the roster's okay, he trusts these guys
and wants them to perform at a level that shuts
everybody up, all their critics, and he did say that
again today. But he also indicated, from my point of
view listening to him that because he spoke about it
several times, that he is hoping the Cowboys make a

(15:24):
move at the trade deadline on the defensive side of
the ball, which he acknowledged. Hey, Amari Cooper made a
huge difference in twenty eighteen for a first round pick,
but it's easier to identify the impact that an offensive
player can have compared to bringing in a defensive player.
But he does seem to be very hopeful that they're
going to make a move that brings a player here.

Speaker 2 (15:46):
Did you think that that's why I felt that that
he was saying help, Jerry, Help. That was to me
that that was the message, just to me, Jerry Hilp.

Speaker 5 (15:55):
Yeah, I mean, this is the season he's having right now.
He has every reason to get up there and ask
for help if he needs to. You know, Jerry has
made his contract value very appointed. Note in a lot
of interviews, whether it be radio interviews or outside of
the locker room after games, he always throws around, well,
we're paying the richest player more than anybody in the NFL.

Speaker 4 (16:13):
Blah blah.

Speaker 2 (16:14):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (16:15):
He needs to clap back with, well, hey, the richest
player still needs help to So that would be that
would be my point today.

Speaker 3 (16:21):
I had a lot of rich players in Detroit.

Speaker 4 (16:23):
They do they sure do?

Speaker 2 (16:25):
You know Peyton Manning was was rich many times in
his career, and they still found talent to put around him.
That's you know, that's the job of management. And nobody
put a gun and Jerry's head to give him the contract.
So nobody did that, but Todd Franz kind of did.

Speaker 3 (16:40):
But Jerry gave him the gun.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
You know, when you could have gotten him several several
different Well.

Speaker 6 (16:46):
What it's like when you look at the numbers for
pass rushers right now, right a year ago when we
were talking to Micah and he wanted to get his deal,
thirty four, Bosa with thirty four right now, Bosa's like
eighth or something.

Speaker 4 (16:56):
That's crazy, right, right.

Speaker 6 (16:58):
So so that's where I just that's what happens, and
you know that's what's gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (17:01):
And that's the thing I don't understand for somebody who
is one of the great sports business people of all time,
Jerry Jerald Ways in the Hall of Fame, right, Jerald
Wayne Jones, And you can't get this part on point.
That's that's surprising to me. It's very surprising to me.
But I think that Dak Prescott knows that at this

(17:25):
point in time, the offense has to be darn near perfect. Yeah,
I mean darn near perfect, and still it may not
be enough, like like Green Bay.

Speaker 3 (17:31):
You can't put forty.

Speaker 6 (17:33):
I actually think Brian Schotenheimer's got to get to the
point where, like a lot of these like the trend
in the NFL right now is coaches are going forward
on fourth down like thirty two percent of the time
in all situations, thirty two percent of the time they
don't punt, the number goes up once they're you know,
in plus territory on the opponent side of the field.
But like on fourth and sixth last week and dead

(17:54):
for I don't think it was a glaring strategic blunder,
But can you really afford to punt there? Yeah, and
in a ten point game that or becomes a twenty
it becomes a twenty point game real fast.

Speaker 4 (18:06):
Fourth and one in the first half.

Speaker 5 (18:07):
There was another opportunity there that I they have gone
for at previous times this season, and they decided not
to in that situation.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
So it'll be interesting this week because Cooper bb will
be back at center and so essentially you're going to
get your line back for the first time in forever.
So maybe if they get Cooper b B back able
to run the football a little bit more and and
if you know, you have a fourth and sixth or
with the weapons that they've got, and if they're running

(18:34):
the ball and what Javonte Williams could bring out there,
then I you know, you're you're good, But I think
that uh, I think if you're Dak Prescott, you just
really frustrated that if I'm not perfect if you know, well.

Speaker 6 (18:46):
Don't you don't you think the interception to Ferguson was
him forcing the ball, trying to make a play like he.

Speaker 3 (18:51):
Did never get points.

Speaker 2 (18:52):
That's what you know. The last time they were in Denver.

Speaker 6 (18:54):
He doesn't want to play that way. It's not his
instinct to play that way. He's not reckless with the ball.
But sometimes you're you got no your team makes you desperate.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
Yeah, you got no faith in the other guys, or
you even go back to the Carolina game, we better
get it done. I don't get the ball back. Yeah.
So so that was another.

Speaker 3 (19:10):
That was the worst serial offensive series of the year.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
Yeah. But they've got and I asked to act president
about the priestapp peel. They've got to stop doing that.
They are second in the league, just looking right here.
Penalties committed, they are second most. They're number two in
the NFL sixty seven.

Speaker 6 (19:24):
Sixty seven penalty denvers got sixty eight penalty yards.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
They're the third. They got the third most five hundred
and fifty five yards. Man, that's a lot. That's a
lot of penalty yard.

Speaker 6 (19:33):
Man, second most three eight games in franchise history. After
the nineteen eighty seven team had five amazing including decline penalties.
The Cowboys have been flagged thirty times for false start
or holding on offense. That's tied for the most of
the NFL with the Commanders.

Speaker 2 (19:50):
I thought that would get cleaned up.

Speaker 3 (19:52):
After right, that seemed to McCarthy flaw.

Speaker 2 (19:54):
Thank you right, yes, and shotten Hiris he was here.
It's like you saw it. Yeah, you know you saw it,
and it has been cleaned up. Is why I wanted
to ask Dak Prescott because at some point in time
this has to become really the players. That's a focus issue.
The players have to police each other. Hey, Nick, be
outside man. Yeah, you know, I mean just that kind
of thing. Or okay, if Geydon has an issue at times,

(20:14):
somebody look over there and help them out. But they've
got to do something because you go back to the
Denver game. All right, you get the pick. Now, you
go right down the field. You got the ball to one.
Next thing, you know, you're at the six and you're
you're kicking. You're kicking a field goal. They're not good enough,
especially to go on a road against a good team
and get settle for three when they need sex.

Speaker 6 (20:34):
And I think they're in all of their five previous takeaways,
they score touchdowns. That was the first time in six
games that one was a field goal.

Speaker 2 (20:45):
And it was kind of funny. I know, people who
are watching the game, Oh, they got to pick right, Hey,
it might be their day of going down the field
and when they kick the figure. I was like, nope,
because Nate always told me, when you're kicking field goals,
you're asking to get beat. You're asking to get you
have to score touchdowns. And so if you get the ball,
you know you force a turnover.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
Didn't even force it. It was just a guy just
threw it right right to it.

Speaker 2 (21:05):
And right now we're going to say force four.

Speaker 3 (21:06):
So it was under incredible pressure with this defense.

Speaker 2 (21:09):
Yes, and we're gonna we're gonna give him that.

Speaker 5 (21:11):
Okay, haveing a nicknack for him. By the way, when
we're when you're done at this point, Bridges, Yeah, dude,
go ahead, go ahead this one. So his name is
tra Quiz Bridges. Right, a try called quiz See, I'm
not too young for.

Speaker 3 (21:22):
That, right, we'll be right back, right, Maybe not nick,
that's a good one. That's a good one. I don't
care what be right back?

Speaker 7 (21:30):

(23:53):
ticketing partner of the Dallas Cowboys. So ed George Pickens
spoke today and I asked him, have you had an
opportunity to get around dfw C. Basically, have you had
the chance to see the area. Do you like it?

Speaker 3 (24:06):
Like you're planning to stay?

Speaker 6 (24:08):
Well, I mean, found a place you'd like to live
the rest of your life, you know, spend your career
here playing for the Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (24:14):
So so Javante's mind below market value.

Speaker 2 (24:18):
I don't think his age is doing that.

Speaker 5 (24:19):
Be on the players longe, some guy that Jerry might
know his name, be on the player's lounge with Newing
when he's done playing.

Speaker 2 (24:26):
You know about that. Either we've got we've recruited any
player who's been the Barry Church is the only player
who's got a bat who's ever received the NFL bag
that's done this show. Everybody else, everybody else is.

Speaker 3 (24:38):
Doing because they didn't get a bag.

Speaker 5 (24:39):
You can you're all We're all getting NFL bags now yeah,
so o picket, but just but just just the ability
to do you like the area so some people like
I remember Leel Collins, he told me that I'm never
leaving here, even if I'm not playing, I'm going to
live here.

Speaker 2 (24:56):
I like it here. And and we've all covered plenty
of guys who've come from different places who make their
home right here in Dallas.

Speaker 3 (25:03):
For Dante william said he wanted to be here.

Speaker 2 (25:05):
And that was the next thing to say. He loves horses,
had horses back in North Carolina. You know, I want
to be down here. So that's what I was trying
to kind of get with Pickens to see engage. Did
you find something here that you liked?

Speaker 5 (25:15):
It?

Speaker 2 (25:15):
Says, you know what, man, Yeah, I really want to
be here. But he said no, he's just basically stayed
in Frisco, So okay, but at least wanted to kind
of dig right there because that matters to some.

Speaker 6 (25:24):
People, and maybe because he always has leverage on his mind,
you know, and he doesn't want to sacrifice any of it.
He was even sort of noncommittal about does he want
to play here beyond this season or what does he
expects going to happen at the trade deadline, having just
been traded here himself once before. I mean he was
he was like, yeah, that'd be okay or whatever. He's
not like, yeah, you know what, I'm going to do
whatever I can within reasons to stay here. I love

(25:46):
beat a you know, complimentary piece to Ceedee Lamb. I
love the relationship I have with Dak. I'm sold on
the offense. He doesn't say any of those things.

Speaker 4 (25:54):
You wonder. You wonder how much coaching he said too, from.

Speaker 2 (25:58):
David Mcgulutney dog all right, and CD, you know, and
Ceedee Lamb and Michael Parson's other people who've been there.
Because I asked CD, you know what advice do you
give him here? How to deal with Jerry?

Speaker 3 (26:08):
Keep it positive?

Speaker 2 (26:10):
Yes, which is yes, very smart. But look, the guy
is showing you he is an elite player and I
need to fits. He fits, And I just don't see
how they can do anything other than pay him. I don't.

Speaker 3 (26:28):
It just makes it's a good it's been. It's been
a win.

Speaker 6 (26:31):
The trade's been a win for the Cowboys and ways
probably they didn't even imagine. But it's less of a
win if he only plays one year here and you
gave up two draft picks to get.

Speaker 2 (26:39):
Him, true and armed to me, and I think about, okay,
I got four number one picks the next two years.
This gives you the ability to go get the defensive
help and get it at a cost efficient level and
pay a guy like Pickings. Trayvon Diggs is not going
to be here, So there's there's some money here, but
you've got to go start working the cap, figuring it out.

(27:00):
Do you push down the road and for Dak Prescott,
But you've got to get the player, the player. You're
not going to go out and make a trade and
get another player like George Pickens here for for three
like they got three and five. You're just not the guys.

Speaker 3 (27:14):
Really, he fits Marik Cooper Cussia one.

Speaker 6 (27:17):
Pickens is a more dynamic player than he is and
he had a profound impact.

Speaker 2 (27:21):
On Yeah, from three and five to the playoffs.

Speaker 6 (27:22):
So yes, vision title, Yeah, my thing has been. My
thing has been keep the picks and use him to
build your defense the next two years. In the ELF season,
agree and spend your cap space on Javonte Williams and
George Pickens and whatever else.

Speaker 5 (27:37):
You need to get and acquire more draft picks by training.
You're kicking these other expiring contracts, you and your kicker.

Speaker 3 (27:43):
Yeah, and the kicker. Of course, you got to keep
the kicker.

Speaker 2 (27:46):
So yeah, I'm with that all out. Look, Okay, we've
we've given him the plane. We'll get him blueprint right
here on the media match. Okay, we've done that. But
you've got you've got to keep Pickens. He just fits
in so many ways from the position, and he's just
not a dude who's playing one. He's playing all over
the place out there. Your number one receiver has no

(28:07):
jealousy and animosity towards him, so there's no a j
Brown situation going on.

Speaker 6 (28:10):
He doesn't seem to have any towards CD right, So
they're a great relationship.

Speaker 2 (28:14):
They're getting along. He gets along with the quarterback just
fine right here. He seems to be very good in
the locker room, and the guys like him.

Speaker 3 (28:20):
And he's not front running because you're not winning.

Speaker 2 (28:23):
This is who you would pay. In my mind, this
is who you pay. You pay people like this, that's
what you pay for. So but that's just me in
my two cents is not my money. But I'll be
more than two cents.

Speaker 3 (28:34):
Ain't gond of get it done, nor.

Speaker 2 (28:36):
Should it, nor should this. He's been better than I thought.
I don't know about you guys, what you guys thought.
He's been better than I thought.

Speaker 6 (28:42):
I thought it was a huge risk to put him
in this locker room with a first time head coach.
But he has been He's had no issues whatsoever through
half the season.

Speaker 2 (28:51):
So yeah, through half.

Speaker 6 (28:52):
But even on the field, I haven't been a lot
of penalties, you know, all the extraneous stuff that used
to happen that would result in him getting flagged for
you know, unsportsmanlike conduct.

Speaker 3 (29:00):
We haven't even seen that.

Speaker 6 (29:01):
He got He had a bad block and got called
for that. Was that the Philly game? Yeah, Phillip right before.

Speaker 4 (29:07):
Yeah, yeah it was Philly. It was Philly.

Speaker 2 (29:09):
So he's been a good citizen and and and but.

Speaker 3 (29:11):
Yes, he's gonna help you achieve your goals.

Speaker 2 (29:14):
Take the take the picks and go to where in
your free agent money after after pickings, and and but
you got you've got to go fix the defense. And
whether eber Flutes is back, and I think he will
be if he's back, to get the guy the tools,
and he needs help about Nick and already talked about
the green Bay pick. With the green Bay pickings up
where we think it will be possible. I got green
Bay in the Super Bowl, that ends up in the thirties.

(29:35):
To go ahead and trade down, find somebody who wants
to come up in the first round to get a
quarterback exactly, and start overpay right, start acquiring more picks.

Speaker 6 (29:45):
Like what the what did Giants give up to move
up to get Dart at uh late in the first round?

Speaker 4 (29:50):
Falcons so got back in there.

Speaker 2 (29:52):
Falcons got back up and you know what, one of
the most notable ones we've seen here in the last
decade when Ozzie knew him in his final draft, goes
back up and against Lamar Jackson at the end of
the first round. So there'll there'll be some team that
wants to get a quarterback or they're in love with
one particular type of player that the head coach is
banging the drum for the Okay, fine, we'll will get

(30:12):
him and get five years of the play. The Cowboys
are going to have that ability. But go ahead and
Jackson Dart Yeah.

Speaker 9 (30:19):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (30:19):
They traded the number four pick, Yeah, second number one,
So they traded a two, a three and another three
for next year.

Speaker 2 (30:27):
Can't beat that.

Speaker 3 (30:27):
You have to move you should be starters.

Speaker 6 (30:29):
Yeah, to quarterback you don't need theoretically theoretic here giants
needed him.

Speaker 2 (30:36):
Look it's there for Jerry so so I don't know
what they can do with this. Plus, if you have
to make a movie, this year's traded down you already
you're already, you're already out of a three now. So
if you make some kind of move like they they've
done here recently where they don't care about the fourth
round pick, so you could be about a three and
a four, So who's who knows? And then I don't
know what they may get compensation wise, Nick.

Speaker 5 (30:57):
Do you here's another one, James Pierce slash year the
Falcons traded up to the twenty sixth spot, got a
second and a seventh last year, and this year's first
round pick.

Speaker 3 (31:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (31:07):
Remember everyone was like what are they doing?

Speaker 4 (31:09):
What are they doing?

Speaker 2 (31:10):
I mean between that and the pennixy of people in
wonder what the Falcons doing? So hey, that's what you
call him? I mean literally like Bob You remember when
Bob you're too young, When Bobby Bathrow wouldn't keep the
number one pick. There'd be somebody in the second round
that Bobby fell in love when and gave him.

Speaker 3 (31:25):
Great on this guy, we got to get him right right.

Speaker 2 (31:27):
So that's what you do if you Jerry and find
who's going to give me this? Yeah, well who is
one particular team in love with and see what you
can do here. But they have the ability to.

Speaker 6 (31:40):
To build a supporting cast on the defensive side of
the ball that they're lacking right right.

Speaker 2 (31:43):
You can't save it this year, but you can fix
it next year. They did it with dan Quinn, so
you can do it again.

Speaker 3 (31:49):
Yeah, they did it with dan Quinn and Michael Parsons.

Speaker 2 (31:52):
That was a part of it. That was definitely a
part of it.

Speaker 6 (31:55):
So over the last six years, it was only three
years they had an exceptional defense and while failed in
the postseason, it was damn good in the regular season.

Speaker 2 (32:03):
And you know what, I give Will McLay and everyone
credit because they do not only did they get Michael Parsons,
they traded down and picked up three to go get
Michael Parsons. And you know, I, you know, I saw
the Penn State game at Memphis, was like it's Memphis,
but hey.

Speaker 6 (32:19):
And they let Dan Quinn be a big part of
that draft process. You know, he went on all the trips,
which campus visits, workouts.

Speaker 2 (32:27):
Yeah, which is you know which I think good?

Speaker 3 (32:30):
Some of them?

Speaker 2 (32:31):
Yeah, some of that's good. You know. He also wanted
wanted Fayjoko and Sam Williams. So you know it's a
gift and curse. It's like Rod Marinellie Hey Rod, Oh yeah,
tj the wat kid, I even fit the skiing. Let's
do taco. Tristan Hill, Yeah, I signed, I'm gonna sign
a contract. Or so sometimes these coaches can, you know,

(32:53):
put Bill Parcell. People all forget Bill Parcell's last guy.
He wont Bobby Carpenter.

Speaker 6 (32:58):
How about Bill Parcells wanted Marcus Spears over Marcus ware
wanted that.

Speaker 2 (33:01):
And I remember when he took Al Johnson as a
center in round two. Well, he didn't want he, he
didn't want Newman. So they take Newman and they let
him do the second round pick. And so then he
took Al Johnson. And the crazy thing about Al Johns,
he gets hurt right out of the gate in San Antonio.
And then Andre Gerard goes from guard to center and
has a great career, right has an excellent career. And

(33:23):
the thing was all you had to do was go
back to Colorado When they won the Big twelve championship,
they had moved Andre from from guard to center, and
he was all American guard, but they put him at
center and it took off like this dude knows how
to play. But yeah, Bill did a lot of stuff. Bill,
you Bill, shopping for your bill, shopping for your groceries.
And as good as people thinking, the perception versus the

(33:44):
reality is very different. Oh I don't I want I
want Cedric Jones. I don't want Terry.

Speaker 6 (33:48):
I like Bill motivating and coaching my players and getting
him ready all week long though, and holding him accountable.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
The great Gil Bramsey. You don't want him drafted. You
don't want him drafting. You want him coaching him, not drafting.
All right, that's the show today, Nick Harris, he's got
to go right or start Telegram Edward check him out
a channel eate, I'm newie scribes Chicken out Channel five
and with Speedy Mash We'll be talking to you Tuesday, Tuesday, Tuesday,
right after Monday, one game Tuesday right here, meetiach again later.
