Speaker 1 (00:02):
The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
This is Media Match, a roundtable of Cowboys insiders, trumping
wisdom and offering sizzling takes on the current state of
your Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
Now your host new he scrugs, it is time for
the media match as we get ready for the Cowboys
Eagles coming up on Sunday at Jerry World. Short week
for the Cowboys. You play Monday night in Las Vegas,
dominant victory there, but they get ready for the World
champions and then after that it's four days until the
Kansas City Chiefs come to Jerry World for Thanksgiving Day.
(00:43):
So it's not the three games and toy it's really
eleven because this thing is a shorter one.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Here.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
So we got John Jock Tael, the author and former
beat writer for the Cowboys, joining us here. Bobby Belt
one oh five three, the fan he covers the Cowboys
for them, and I'm newly scruggs. So John, this stretch
is a tough one. But at the same time, if
the Cowboys are going to make a move, they need
to get these two games.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
And I'll say this gone say gone, say what you're gonna.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Say, gettable because you have faced the Eagles before you,
your run defense is better, and Kansas City and Kansas City.
So I got sports teams from last year. All right,
go ahead, now here's it. Go ahead, poo poop.
Speaker 5 (01:24):
I'm not finning poopoo. You know what I said.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
Man, I'm not gonna steal your line, but if you want,
I'm just Bobby.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
I'll appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
If you want to put that tab on your tongue
and take a trip, here's how you can do it.
Speaker 6 (01:37):
Now.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
I'm not doing it, but lots of folks out there
in podcast land want to do it. And the way
you can take that trip is you could say, if
the Cowboys are no longer the worst defense in the league,
but the twenty fourth worst defense in the league.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
If you want to go there.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
The beauty of it is your offense has been good
almost all year. Philadelphia's offensively challenged, Kansas City is offensively challenged,
Detroit is offensively challenged. If you can just be bad
and not terrible on defense, you have a chance. If
you want to put that tab on your tongue. Okay,
so and ride with the offense. Now, I'm gonna go
(02:17):
with somebody else wants to it.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
You like injected in your veins. That's problem with you.
So Bobby, Well, somebody once told me, I don't if
you ever heard of sports is fluid. M Okay, yeah,
that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 5 (02:28):
What's true today?
Speaker 3 (02:29):
May not you beat you an offrom now.
Speaker 5 (02:31):
So so that's that's it.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
I mean, while while Gerald Wayne Jones went on one
O five three the Fan to say that you know
what the Cavalry's coming. Reinforcements are coming.
Speaker 5 (02:42):
It's the Raiders. It's the Raiders. But what you.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
Saw and Philadelphi is a much better Philadelphia is here.
The Raiders are down there, the Raiders, but it's better
than what we have seen. And that same defense, which
has been bad.
Speaker 4 (03:03):
Now it's been terrible. Okay, they're trying to get to bed. Yeah, tragic,
it's been. It's been tragic. Yeah, had him in position
to win Philadelphia. The offense was the one who needed
the good part. That doesn't even count. Man, that but
that team don't even exist. Eistn't talk about that game.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
That defense, Okay, I'm just saying that defense is now better.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
Yeah, and the offense is worse, which is why you
have a chance. Now, you know, I think they'd be
lucky to win one of these three, but there are
ways they can win all three, don't you think about it.
Speaker 7 (03:35):
Yeah, Look, I told you right after the quinn In trade,
I said my call was the rest away. They were
going to go six and two? Is what I thought?
You said that six and two?
Speaker 3 (03:43):
What kind of hundreds?
Speaker 6 (03:46):
Because here's here's the thing. Here's how you're looking at them.
Speaker 7 (03:49):
The way you look at it, I think that basically
you just need to fight for a split between Philly,
Kansas City, Detroit and then maybe the Chargers. But the
Chargers just had one of the worst losses in the
NFL this past weekend. Excuse Yeah, you got Washington, you
got the Giants, You've got Minnesota in there. I think
you match up well with Minnesota. You just took care
of the Raiders. And yeah, it's the Raiders. But the
(04:12):
standard or the way it should be measured or looked
at the way I've talked about it this week is yeah,
but there are other teams that you think are better
than Dallas that have not played the Raiders that well.
Not that you are all of a sudden some world beaters,
but you can only play who you play, and they've
not been able to beat down teams like that.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
You've been losing Arizona, so you can beat the Raiders
dog going a hey, good good. So I'm not gonna
you know, it is what it is.
Speaker 7 (04:35):
When Dak turned over that ball when he had that
fumble three weeks ago, the Raiders are probably scoring a touchdown.
Speaker 6 (04:41):
They're not kicking a field goal there.
Speaker 7 (04:43):
Yeah, I could see that, and so's Those are the
kind of differences, That's what you mean. The whole reason
with Quinn and Logan, the offense had been good enough
that it was like if you can add them and
more than that, Now you've added Overshown and as Irak,
who's starting to play better, and you've brought Hooker back,
and Hooker made a big difference in this game the
other day. Is that you've changed all three level the defense,
and all you need is you need one to two
extra stops a game.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
Then you were get Arson was Carson. Carson was solid,
he was effective in the game. You saw Revel come
and put some plays out there. So look, we're you know,
Bland almost had an interception, So I'm i understand it.
Speaker 5 (05:18):
I get it all day long.
Speaker 6 (05:19):
Man.
Speaker 5 (05:19):
It's the Raiders.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
They're not a good organization, but the Arizona Cardinals aren't
any good either.
Speaker 5 (05:26):
They came in your house and just took you apart apart.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
You know what Bobby's saying is right, instead of giving
up a fifty five percent of the scoring drives, can
you give up forty five percent?
Speaker 7 (05:37):
That's literally margins enough for you to win three of
your games this day.
Speaker 5 (05:40):
It's got to being thirty second and third down version.
If you can go yeah, like.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
You said, twenty five, yeah, and twenty five. I mean
you go from being an F student to a D. Hey,
you know if you're a D student, you know they
can make.
Speaker 7 (05:51):
That work a little bit if you make those changes.
If you get one to two extra stops a game,
you end up beating Green Bay, Yes, you end up
beating Carolina. You maybe end up beating Philadelphia and the opener.
I mean, like that's the kind of margins that we're
talking about, where the offense has been good enough, you
just needed like help me a little just give me
a little bit of help, and there's a little bone. Yeah,
(06:14):
And then that's the thing I think They've got a
defense right now that it looks like can give them
at least a little bit of help. Not world beaters,
but just don't be thirty second.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Right, Quinn Williams is the real deal. He is an
elite player.
Speaker 4 (06:28):
But did you think he would.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
No, But it's just I've watched him back at Alabama
just but just to see what I think all of
us have seen.
Speaker 5 (06:38):
What what you hope a tray can do.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
Okay, like, hey, this is if you know this guy
comes into what you hope he could do. Like like Nico,
Nico had this vision of Anthony Davis and for you know,
twenty minutes it happened.
Speaker 6 (06:50):
And then yeah, let's not say like Nico, but.
Speaker 7 (06:53):
I'm saying then Quinn Williams has played more than Anthony
Davis has already, Yes.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
Yes, but then it all went And so for Quinn Williams, man,
the guy did everything Jerry. He saw that little picture
of you saw a photo of Jerry and then he's
that guy. And to see the doubles and then to
see where Kenny this is the best version of Kenny Clark.
When Jerry tried to sell us as Kenny Clark. He
was trying to sell us like he was Quinny Wing.
(07:19):
He ain't that, but to see Kenny Clark playing next
to him, now you're seeing, Hey, man, you leak this
dude one on one is truble, and now you know,
so Diggy's one on one is truck because he got
a double Quinn.
Speaker 4 (07:30):
To me, it's really, really, it's not. It's a different position.
It's not that much different than Michael Micah makes everybody
else better because of his skill set. So you replaced him,
you traded him, but then you didn't add nothing for
eight weeks. Then you added somebody who's liked that at
a different position, and so guess what, all the guys
around him are playing better because this.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
Dude is a difference. Man, tell me if I'm wrong, Bobby.
Isn't that what Jerry wanted originally and then had to
pivot to the Packers wanted Quinn Williams.
Speaker 7 (07:57):
So yeah, Quentnin and obviously League like, given the context
of us being on Dallas Cowboys dot Com, there were
others I'm sure that that we would know about that
we wouldn't be able to say. But now that Quinn
Williams is here, Yeah, they wanted Quinn and they were
told initially no.
Speaker 6 (08:12):
So work out.
Speaker 7 (08:13):
So they ended up getting who they Yeah, they ended
up getting who they wanted and gained some space in
the second you know, from the second of the first round.
Speaker 6 (08:19):
Basically they flipped positions and this is where it's at.
And the only thing is you didn't have them here
for nine weeks. That's what you wasted.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
Yeah, but now they're now.
Speaker 4 (08:28):
This the reason I think you can you can be
optimistic about the defense is now you went from just
being kind of blout on the defensive line to oh,
they look good on the defensive line now because you got.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
To three tackles rotate. We ain't even talking about Salomons.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
Had a pretty solid year for what you expected out
of him, as Rokuo was really coming on and so
you know, all of a sudden, they look they got
some guys who can make some plays on defense. You
saw a little bit of pass rush on some third
Houston got to jump in on.
Speaker 7 (08:57):
Some Yes, Houston, that's one of the changes. Shotting mad
at the if you want to talk about when he
said they were going to make changes at the buye.
They played James Houston way more than they had all year.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
Thank you. Yeah, which is what they should have done.
But so when I when I think about just just
what you said here naming the moves Solomon Thomas in
the way this rotation is, it's perfect. This is what
you want.
Speaker 4 (09:19):
You're limiting his what wonderful game. Du Yeah, he gonna
be a tear, you know.
Speaker 5 (09:23):
So he comes out there, he's like your number four.
You're young. But back when Jim Jeff Cooat was here
when they winning Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
Thank you there, but just gonna say John didn't seventy
seven or seventy seventy eight, seventy eight, John done seventy eight.
But but just when you had him in that rotation
where you had a Jimmy Jones and a Russell Marriland
a Leon Let, then Jeff Coat was getting no you're
getting no plays off, right, So that's that's and we
(09:52):
saw a lot of the rotations in that football game
against Vegas and so okay, now you're able to help
ever refluce out and you're seeing a little bit of
what they can and be is it too little too late,
who knows. But if they have to make a movie,
you've got you've got to win.
Speaker 7 (10:05):
This game there, Yeah, you've got to win this weekend,
and you can't.
Speaker 5 (10:09):
You can't keep keep losing NFC game.
Speaker 7 (10:11):
Ibra Flus wants pressure from the three technique, that he
wants the three technique to be able to get upfield
and be disruptive to h I think, in fact, I
believe his exact quote has been in the past that
the three technique is the most important position in his scheme.
So so now that you've got that, and you've got
ezerraka Company his own Clowney not has knocked off the rust.
Speaker 6 (10:28):
Clowney's played well. So now you've got you've.
Speaker 7 (10:30):
Got the rotation because Eberfluce, like Marinelli, likes the heavy
defensive line rotation. Aaron White Cotton likes the two. So
when you look at it now, it's like, Okay, now
you've settled on Quinnin, Kenny Clark, Osa, Solomon Thomas, and
then you've got the edges of James Houston, Dante Fowler
for situational stuff, Jadeveon Clowney, Donovan Azraku. That's a rotation
that should be advantageous against most offensive lines most weeks.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
You and me just saying Williams was about to say that.
Speaker 6 (10:56):
You also have the snapcounts.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
I've made him my designated punt block. Has anyone it
went the last time he saw a guy going in
a free agency and just just really.
Speaker 4 (11:10):
He's always been just a guy though. Man, but he's
a hyped up dude. You got great measurablest talent. He'll
flash you, but he ain't never done nothing.
Speaker 7 (11:19):
He also that kneeds harror. We've seen a couple instances.
While the ACL is something that you can come back from,
it's not the one hundred percent success, right. I don't
think that a lot of people. We've seen guys struggle
when they've come back, So I don't know that was
supposed to be the year that he was supposed to
really hit and then he tears his knee and you.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
Know there's no planning for eight years and nine years.
Speaker 6 (11:39):
He'll be a situational guy. Yeah, he'll have.
Speaker 7 (11:41):
There's a guy here, Dante Fowler, who was considered for
six years basically after being a top five pick, just
nobody that you could count on.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
I can envision him being a member of the Commander's
next year, the Seahawks. If he's not back here, sure
you know somebody who's going to pick him up the nose,
knows what he can do and believes it. Whatever they
can unlock what he has, it makes.
Speaker 4 (12:05):
Too many bad plays to be on my team. I mean,
lots of coaches to tell you good plays are great.
But if you just avoid the bad plays, I can.
Speaker 6 (12:15):
I can rock Sam.
Speaker 7 (12:16):
Sam has as many career personal files as he does
Sacks Boom.
Speaker 3 (12:21):
Bill Parcells would not have him around. So Bill ain't
gonna have him around. I ain't having them around, you
know that. That's the thing I think about saying. Although
he's a nice kid, yes, it's not personal. No, we
talk about show friends and show business football, but football.
I don't want him on my football team. I just
there's a couple of guys that you look at the roster,
(12:42):
you say, hey man, you know, hey man, it's been
it's been good.
Speaker 5 (12:46):
You know.
Speaker 8 (12:48):
Any day now, any day like realtor for you any
day now any sect that old Steve Harvey skit when
you talking about firing white people for his black people.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
He says, white people never see it coming. What what happened?
Come on?
Speaker 5 (13:05):
Except black people? Like any day now, any day.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (13:13):
It's like.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
I was talking to a stafford the matice, So what
do you think fucking on Steve Harvey skid like any
day now? With Nico any day now, we were expecting
this long while back. It's been a minute, right, any
day now. I mean, I'm glad you saw me. The
fan base told you any day now, any day And uh,
(13:36):
with Sam, it's just like Sam Williams, Trayvon Diggs any
day now.
Speaker 5 (13:39):
It's probably bobly be it for you.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
You know, what is Trayvon coming back? If ever?
Speaker 6 (13:44):
Question?
Speaker 3 (13:46):
I mean, I ain't missed him, but if ever, And
so that's kind of the thing like, oh you just
said it, yeah, oh yeah, yeah, but he's been gone
like for a minute.
Speaker 6 (13:55):
They were it was very.
Speaker 7 (13:57):
It was very just uns certain and wishy washy when
they would talk about I help you back at some
point when the like timeline was not clear. Generally with
a concussion, you're not getting thrown on, ir That's not
how typically works. And so but I mean, like it
clearly he was banged up and and there I think
they're just trying to figure out what do we want
(14:18):
to do here?
Speaker 3 (14:18):
Have we when's the last time we saw a contract
player like this go from you know this all.
Speaker 6 (14:26):
Pro you know to just here in Dallas or period.
Speaker 3 (14:29):
Yes, yes, where where you know, like, hey man, all
pro guys, here's here's it.
Speaker 5 (14:35):
But he was all pro.
Speaker 6 (14:37):
Jalen Smith was a pro. He was really pro.
Speaker 5 (14:39):
All pro. I mean, Diggs led the league and he
was all pro. All pro.
Speaker 7 (14:42):
Yeah, not an alternate that got put on the Pro
Bowl about me, like all pro, dude, you're thinking.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
Elite, Like, hey man, we're gonna give you this contract
because we think you're going to be a cornerstone of
what we're building.
Speaker 4 (14:55):
Most of us thought the Jayalen Smith was and this
is I'm gonna show zeke I do sign people contract. Yeah,
so we he got it. But he's like, okay, you
just tried.
Speaker 6 (15:05):
But he was coming off with L twenty eighteen. They
were really good together, right.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
And that and that.
Speaker 7 (15:10):
But I mean, if it's not all pro, but if
you want to talk a similarly steep decline pretty fast,
that was Jalen.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (15:17):
In the NFL that the one that comes to mind
is Albert Hainsworth.
Speaker 5 (15:21):
Well, I mean, man.
Speaker 3 (15:22):
That was that was karma. To sign I's side a
guy one hundred million dollars to go play nose tackle.
Speaker 5 (15:28):
I'll never ever, I'll never.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
Get that those teams are done. Yeah, that made no sense.
I mean about paying a guy to do something he
had do before. I never got that. But but for
I thought Diggs was going to be a cornerstone player
here for for a while. And I thought that. I
love Sortaine at Alabama. He was fantastic. He's been everything
I thought he would be. I thought they got themselves
(15:51):
a steal in the second round, got in by a
nice deal contract wise, and like, man, this guy's going
to be here for you know, the generation of the contract.
Speaker 7 (15:58):
I don't think that's thought. I think that's completely accurate.
Like all of that was accurate.
Speaker 6 (16:03):
And then it's sports. You get married and wow, this
isn't who I'm married? Is this person changed?
Speaker 7 (16:12):
I think that there's just some I think there's some
people who look around here and are like, this wasn't
the person I was dating.
Speaker 3 (16:20):

I heard of the Cranberries, but zombie imagine Dragons.
Speaker 3 (20:37):
I would go see they performed out at FC Dallas,
and I can't remember what it was. It was like
it was like, man, it's hot. Yeah, it was like something.
I ain't gonna go die to see them, but I
would go see them. I go see them, you know so,
But yeah, it takes a lot if I go to
a Coners. I gotta really really really dig your music. No, no, no,
(20:57):
I can't can't do that, you know. You know back
when Van Halemy Maroon five, I've seen. I saw him
doing super Bowl.
Speaker 5 (21:07):
With Fact.
Speaker 4 (21:08):
Now Maroon five was great, saw Maroom five. Man, That's
why people love this show. They never know what they're
gonna get when they come back.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
Yeah, no, no, man, I got some Room five here
on the phone. Baby Harder to breathe. When they first
came out with their album, so, I was really good
friends with late named Wendy Goodman and Delano. They were
pr people for Sony. So all these groups were coming.
So I got all these records. Hey, there's a new
artist coming out here. And then when they come to town, like, hey,
k knowe where you want to go? And I was
singing that sure remember one time when he said, Hey,
(21:35):
he's got this new artist out, Alicia Keys, she's gonna
be over six Flags. You want to go, oh whatever
one of her songs? Sure and so and then of
course you want to meet her. Yeah, So anyway I
meet her six Flags of Hey, fantastic show. Really appreciate media.
And I told whnny she'll never play here again, and
so you used the dude. She was singing about with
the coffee. I wish she was. No, she gave you
(21:57):
a little extra cream and the coffee there were no
cream in the coffee. I was, you know, I got married,
but oh my bad, Hey, get on that one. Remember
She's like, you want to see Luther Vandros. Yeah, I
mean that was the I was. You want to know plug, dude,
I had the plug. Got to meet Usher two feet tall,
got to Gusher, go to the concert.
Speaker 11 (22:15):
Me.
Speaker 3 (22:15):
I was living good back in the day. Man, I
was living good. I mean a single.
Speaker 5 (22:18):
Hey, you want to go on con take care of me.
They would take care of me.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
So I was, you know, but now it's like I
gotta pay money and I know he was he usher, No, no,
And where I go out like we see j Cole,
I buy one single ticket and go and do it myself.
Speaker 5 (22:33):
Anyway, Eagles coming to town here.
Speaker 3 (22:35):
The Cowboys had the Eagles right where they wanted them.
Speaker 5 (22:40):
Offense, with the football, go.
Speaker 3 (22:43):
Ahead, run out the clock, win the game, ceedee lamb
drops fast as they loose.
Speaker 6 (22:48):
Luke Schoonmaker also didn't finish a catch on that drive.
Speaker 3 (22:50):
Is he done?
Speaker 7 (22:51):
Schoonmaker Yeah, Schoonmaker played a decent amount this past week.
Speaker 3 (22:54):
Okay, isn't it.
Speaker 7 (22:55):
I mean he's in there. He's in there oftentimes for
blocking purposes, but he's in there.
Speaker 3 (22:59):
So they think about that. And then you had schoon
Maker was last year when he had the couldn't score
over with one and just yeah, Scooney and the Eagles,
that's kind of a problem Michigan man. Let me ask you,
let me ask you all. It is am I only
one who feel who understands where a J. Brown coming from?
Speaker 7 (23:18):
No, yeah, yeah, I totally to me, it's the same
question we've already invoked the Mavericks.
Speaker 6 (23:22):
Might as well do it with the Rangers.
Speaker 7 (23:24):
The Rangers when they were playing okay earlier this year
and then you're like, yeah, but they can't hit and
this is gonna be I love their pitching, that's awesome.
They're not gonna keep winning two to one. There's gonna
be some one nothing games the rest of it. And
that's what happens. So it's like, when they're going well,
it's like, why are you complaining? Look, they're competitive, well,
because this isn't sustainable and right now the Eagles are
(23:45):
not sustainable. They do need to start figuring some things
out on off it. I get where aj Brown's coming from.
Speaker 4 (23:50):
I viewed it as an even deeper part of that,
which is, yeah, we win in but we try and
win a championship, and we can't win a championship with
the way our offense is playing right now.
Speaker 9 (23:59):
Now.
Speaker 4 (23:59):
It's funny to me, is if a media, if writers
were writing it, the players be all upset.
Speaker 6 (24:04):
Yeah, well, look receiver saying it. It's very possible.
Speaker 7 (24:09):
This is the passing and the Eagles had last year,
and we just didn't give a chance to see it
because Saquon Barkley was playing ridiculous. And now that Barkley's
not that way, it's like, well, you've got underline it.
And that's why you have to complain about those things sometimes,
like if last year it was a problem, like hey,
I know we're winning, Bud. This also has to be
fixed because there's gonna come a time where Sequon is
gonna look like Larry Johnson instead or Zeke.
Speaker 3 (24:29):
You can feel the way you do, but when you
go public like he does in that town. Okay, in
that town, if he was in Arizona complaining, since' nobody care.
Speaker 5 (24:44):
But you're a feeling up.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
They want that, they want it, and you keep going
at it. It's very t o like and it just
wears people down. And your quarterback has it. It's just
in my mind, I think it's very selfish. You can complain.
John's stalwart complained watching one of the great NFL films
America's teams, and John openly talked to him. Yeah, but
(25:06):
I was not happy. After a win, he goes up
there and he complains of Chuck. No one, Chucks is John.
We won the game, and you know you want your catches,
He says, Chuck. I'd like to think we can do both.
John was right super Bowl fourteen. You know, Lynn Swann
gets hurt and John is amazing as they beat the Rams.
But John didn't get out here and go public like
(25:28):
this in.
Speaker 5 (25:29):
Such a way, which is just.
Speaker 7 (25:31):
But he might have. These players are coming up. No,
but I'm saying these players are coming up in a
different area, different access.
Speaker 3 (25:37):
Okay, okay, true, different world, and so I just I
just think that A. J. Brown is ultimately going to
do more harm than you.
Speaker 6 (25:44):
It's very possible. Look I mean there, which is fine
by me.
Speaker 3 (25:47):
I hate it for hurts and.
Speaker 7 (25:48):
That's a complicated. I think when you talk to people
who have been around the Eagles organization the last couple
of years, it's a very complicated, delicate situation they.
Speaker 6 (25:57):
Have there at all.
Speaker 3 (25:59):
The ecosystem.
Speaker 7 (26:00):
Yeah, And I think that it's the fact that they
kind of held things together and had the success they
did last year is honestly a really impressive job by
sad coaching staff. Sirianni Kellen Moore, who's there, Vic Fangio,
It was a job well done because it's it's a
balancing act. And I don't know, I think that that
(26:20):
team that you saw play against the Lions the other night,
if the Eagles are playing that way, Dallas can compete
with them.
Speaker 6 (26:28):
Dallas can play with them this Sunday.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
I think this has to be the last year a
j Brown. It probably is. If I'm Jalen Hurts, I go,
I know, I go to the management. No, no, no more, No,
they can find someone else. You've got Smith, you can
go find someone else. Rather than take the slings and
the arrows and all that you're putting up here. Man,
I mean, nah, it's too much, man, too much. I
(26:51):
just think I just think, ultimately is too much you're
gonna get through it now. But think about what we saw,
what Tony went through with TiO.
Speaker 4 (26:57):
It's just not if he had meant throwing a bove
the witting all the time, making no plays, he wouldn't
have to do this week.
Speaker 7 (27:02):
Yes, if they didn't have the cocktail napkin plays, yeah,
it wouldn't have the problem. So this is, by the way,
the second time I've heard t O invoked on a
show him on this week, because I did say, that's
who I thought.
Speaker 6 (27:14):
Pickens looked like the other night when you running through Si.
Speaker 7 (27:18):
But the way the way he was capturing the ball
cutting across the field, Naviga, it looked like the way
it looked like he.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
Was playing throw up tackle out there. To me, man,
it's like when when you got that one guy, I think,
I think he's better than the player.
Speaker 5 (27:30):
What he's better than the player?
Speaker 4 (27:33):
Pickens than t Wow, he's better than But this is
all I'm going to say.
Speaker 6 (27:37):
T is, if you want to take on how he played,
t is the top five receiver.
Speaker 4 (27:41):
Know what I'm saying, you have to You can't have
one year, you have to have a series of years,
and and this can be the start of his series
of years and when he put together about eight of
them like this in a.
Speaker 7 (27:51):
Row like that Alicia Keys concert. Was Nora Jones better?
Nord Jones is great?
Speaker 2 (27:59):
Better?
Speaker 3 (28:00):
Pickt me better?
Speaker 5 (28:01):
All I'm saying, just give me pickets.
Speaker 6 (28:03):
Man, He's great.
Speaker 5 (28:05):
I could like what I like?
Speaker 6 (28:06):
Yeah, like what I like?
Speaker 3 (28:08):
Did you like him?
Speaker 4 (28:09):
Did you like him not starting because he was he
wasn't on the way it was supposed to be when
he's supposed to be there?
Speaker 3 (28:13):
Did you like that parcel to team? I just asked,
had his issues?
Speaker 5 (28:18):
I just asked you, like, you know what he did?
He did his job.
Speaker 3 (28:20):
Did you like that dumb asstery penalty after the great play?
Speaker 4 (28:24):
Did you like that too? Because you take the whole package.
That's right, I'll take the whole I'll take the whole package.
I'm just saying, I'll take the whole package. You know
what I'll take is they have to go down the
field again here to win the game. It thought that
George Pickts three times, he'll go make the catch. Give
me George Pickens.
Speaker 3 (28:40):
Okay, I just want to you staying.
Speaker 6 (28:42):
That's Pickens has been.
Speaker 7 (28:43):
If you want to just talk about in the vacuum
this season there's a case that George Pickens has been
the best receiver in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (28:48):
Oh, I think, well, let me see, your boy been
doing the.
Speaker 6 (28:52):
Damn Jackson Smith and Jake but has been the way
up there.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
He's a buck guy, and he's a rock He's a
rock wall.
Speaker 4 (29:00):
And I thought, I'm just going five touchdown the first
half against Allen, which was phenomenal, but anyway biased.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
Uh, I mean, he is leading the league.
Speaker 7 (29:08):
You don't.
Speaker 4 (29:09):
You got eleven hundred yards. Ain't nobody else got a thousand.
That's not biased.
Speaker 5 (29:11):
Those the facts.
Speaker 3 (29:13):
It just so happened that he went to the He's
a great player. It's a great I mean, I didn't
invote the other.
Speaker 7 (29:19):
Guess I was thinking while we were sitting here, when
you said you're talking about schoon maker and you called
him schooney, I was expecting Jock to go into schoony
Penn discussion.
Speaker 4 (29:28):
No, there's no need to. We haven't been to the
final four in a minute, so we don't need to
talk about basketball right now. We just with football school
right now.
Speaker 5 (29:36):
Bastball.
Speaker 4 (29:36):
We might get back to back. I mean, it ain't
like we've been to the final four recently. It ain't
like Carolina. Man.
Speaker 7 (29:44):
All that to say, if the offense is back the
way it looked like it was back this week, if
they're blocking things up and you've got this is a
three different, you've got a new You basically had an
entirely new middle of the defense this past week. Yes, well,
let me Six of the ten snap leaders on defense
this week did not play a single snap for Dallas
two weeks two games Agoing again, let's get.
Speaker 3 (30:03):
A break in here.
Speaker 5 (30:04):
You have a thought.
Speaker 3 (30:05):
Okay, hold it, hold it for them both, hold it,
hold it heavy. I don't know it isn't you got
little hands, So you go ahead and handle it right there.
We'll take care of it. Also, Bobby, Bobby's got a
thought on the cowboy running back situation from earlier today

five three. The fan comes teams every single game. I
had a thought with two hands, go ahead, think for me, baby, No,
(33:10):
it seems to me.
Speaker 4 (33:10):
No, Now, this is not breaking news, but it seems
to me that this game, even more than the others
we've seen recently, is really all about both offensive lines.
Lane Johnson out Philadelphia's offensive line, banged up Cowboys kind
of getting their line together. It's who can handle the
other team's defensive line. Now, before that wouldn't be a
question because the Cowboys defensive line was a nine plus.
Speaker 3 (33:33):
Now it's a positive.
Speaker 4 (33:35):
And you know, we'll see if the Cowboys can handle Phillies'
defensive line so that they can do something. But it's
a game of offensive lines to me, and that'll be interesting.
Speaker 3 (33:44):
Run who can establish the run?
Speaker 7 (33:46):
Philly's had trouble doing that this year now, other than
when Jalen was just scrambling on the Cowboys in Week one.
Speaker 3 (33:53):
I have two questions about that.
Speaker 4 (33:54):
For you, do you think that, well, two things can
be true, But do you think that's because the line
has been beat up and hurt all year or because
and this is my theory, your boy had like four
hundred and fifty touches last year, and at his age when.
Speaker 6 (34:10):
You which is twenty seven, twenty seven club.
Speaker 4 (34:13):
And at twenty eight, they fall off a cliff. But
the number of touches, because he had like one hundred
carries and five or ten receptions in the playoffs in
addition to all the work he did during the regular season,
whether that has affected him this year.
Speaker 7 (34:26):
Yeah, I think it has because I mean he had
so Yeah, he had four hundred and eighty two touches
between the regular season and playoffs last which is insane.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
And so just based on that right there, because I
think you're absolutely right. What Howie Roseman needed to do
was bring in a complimentary back to say, hey, look,
fantastic year, we won the Super Bowl. But and we've
just given you this contract here. We got to save
you, you know, we got to limit your pitch count.
Speaker 4 (34:51):
When I did some research on this a few weeks ago,
there's only been like eight guys, eight players who had
as many touches as him and a season, you know,
in the last twenty something years. The following year, almost
all of them either hurt or they dropped off precipitously
like five six, seven hundred yards because the workload is
(35:12):
just so big, and there's only been big names.
Speaker 5 (35:14):
Who've done it.
Speaker 6 (35:15):
Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 7 (35:17):
Larry Johnson and DeMarco Murray, right, and they both had
real step drop offs.
Speaker 4 (35:22):
Next year, who's the one of the running back from
Houston had a similar year? Foster and he had he
had one of those, but he was hurt the name
that was the script though.
Speaker 3 (35:30):
Oh yeah, you know what's the online they saying, And
you know, body's only got so many hits in boxing.
You only got so many hits in me, and you
can only take that much punishment and that I do
believe there's something there. And the best one to me
is Derrick Henry. The two years he's had his huge years.
Speaker 4 (35:50):
The next year he's been good, but it's been nothing
remotely close to the huge years because.
Speaker 5 (35:54):
It's like your body got to got it.
Speaker 4 (35:56):
I need a year to recover and then I can
get back to being my great self.
Speaker 11 (36:00):
Well.
Speaker 7 (36:00):
And out of all those people we talked about, the
only one who has a significant injury history is Saquon,
and so Saquon coming off of already having a long
injury history. Then coming off of that kind of you know,
told that he took on his body and being as
old as he was, Yeah, he's it felt like a
good bet that he was going to have a decline here.
Speaker 3 (36:19):
And it's very interesting, as you guys bring up a
fantastic point is.
Speaker 5 (36:22):
With all the analytics.
Speaker 3 (36:25):
And things that you can go and look at today,
that someone like Howie Roseman, who I believe is a
very smart GM in the National Football League, would not
have invested a little bit more there to just simply say, hey, look,
you know what, Saquon, you're a guy. We're going to
give you this raise, but we've got we've got to
help We've got to help you. Limit this a little.
(36:46):
We got to cut it back just a little bit
to help you. Yeah, data, Yeah, to do that. Speaking
of backup running backs, Jaydon Blue of the Cowboys, a
lot of people had high hopes for the running back
from uh from Texas and Brian shottenhigm res some interesting
comments about him today.
Speaker 7 (37:02):
Yeah, Jayden Blue has not gotten as many opportunities recently.
Malik Davis is the one who got him on Monday
Night and he was asked about Malik being over Jayden Blue,
and one of the things he said was, Malik has
done an incredible job since he's got back. He's a
personal protector. He's doing a great job. I think he's
on three or four core special teams units. He's running well.
He and Jayden will continue to compete. But right now,
when you're looking at the two, that's where Jayden has
(37:24):
to understand. Until you're the guy, which at some point,
hopefully he is the guy, you've got to be able
to impact the game in other ways. I think he
understands that Jaden is learning a lot about this league.
He's always going to continue to compete and put his
best foot forward. He doesn't have to like the decision
if it goes against him to play someone else, but
he's got to make sure he's always prepared to go play.
Speaker 3 (37:41):
You know, I had a thought the other day. Uh,
I can't remember what I heard.
Speaker 4 (37:46):
Brian Schottenheimer said something, and I said to myselfself, I
wish him success because he will give you some really good,
authentic answers. Now, maybe he's so young in his career
he hadn't turned to coach speak yet. Excuse me, but
it seems as though he tries to really honestly answer
questions as opposed to avoid answering questions.
Speaker 7 (38:08):
Yeah, and I mean without his dad was generally like
I think thought of as being authentic throughout his career.
And I think that, I mean, he's told the story
before the media, you know, in the hallways, and he
said it in front of a podium. I think too,
of just like when he came back here to Dallas,
Like when he got the job here in Dallas, A
big reason why he wanted to do it and why
he wanted to work with the defensive side with Dan
(38:29):
Quinn was because he was like, I needed to find
my connection with players again, and Dan is the best
I'd ever seen at it, and I needed to get
around that again and remind myself of like who I
was and how I need to be. And so I
know there's been a recommitment for him to just I
got to be as authentic as possible at all times,
and everything else will take care of itself.
Speaker 4 (38:48):
Because that's a really good answer, which is, hey, Doug,
and to you that, dudes, you need to be.
Speaker 3 (38:51):
On three or four special teams, man.
Speaker 4 (38:53):
Yeah, in addition to knowing what you're supposed to do
and until you do that.
Speaker 3 (38:57):
Though, it ain't gonna happen. What are the great things
in parcels talked about? When he was here, I'm looking
at a guy, a backup player, like how many snaps
am I getting?
Speaker 5 (39:05):
That was his whole thing. You got to be giving
me a lot of snaps.
Speaker 3 (39:08):
And if you're not, then I'm going to put somebody
else on the roster and let us give him. Elitite
Davis a whole lot of credit because there was a
time where I thought he was a better running.
Speaker 5 (39:17):
Back than Rigo Dauda was for the Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (39:20):
That just it looked like it early on when they
were just both competing, and then he stayed ready, he's
gone out there. He's been a true professional, been a
true professional.
Speaker 7 (39:29):
He's grown up too. I think early on when he
was here, there was some there were some questions for them,
similar to probably what Jayden Blues dealing with now, like
do you know how to be a pro?
Speaker 6 (39:39):
Do you know?
Speaker 7 (39:39):
Do you know how to handle things? And Malik Davis
was in that spot at one point and he grew
up past it and they saw that growth, and I
think that's one of the things they actually really appreciate
and respect about him.
Speaker 3 (39:49):
And you know what, man, that's that's uh. That happens
a lot in this league. Guys have to just figure
it out and get it and it's not as easy
as maybe it was when you were playing in college.
But once again, I give him, I have a lot
of respect for him because he just he stuck with
it and sometimes that's you gotta do. I remember when
Keenan McCardell kept getting cut. Bill Belichick would cut him
two three times a year, and he just stuck with
(40:09):
it until he finally became a outstanding wide receiver and
had a really good career. But you know, it's perseverance.
There you go, the words perseverance. All right, jj T
appreciate you man. So I was good to see you, man.
Hope you enjoyed your vacation. Yes, eight days in Vegas. Baby,
it's great, it's great.
Speaker 5 (40:27):
Loved it, Bobby, Yes, sir, good to see you again.
Speaker 6 (40:29):
Good to see you too.
Speaker 3 (40:30):
All right, we'll do it again, uh tomorrow right here
on Dallas Cowboys dot Com on new we strugs.
Speaker 6 (40:35):
