Speaker 1 (00:02):
The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
This is media match, a roundtable of Cowboys insiders, drumping
wisdom and offering sizzling takes on the current state of
your Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
Now your host, Newie Scrugs.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
All right, let's get it pop in here.
Speaker 4 (00:26):
It is a media match as the Cowboys get ready
to face the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day
six and five. What the Chiefs are? The Cowboys are
five to five and one. We're talking about with Hall
of Famer at Warder w FAA TV. And we've got
the cares of the foot warth Star Telegram here to
join this on am. Newye Scrugs, So Dak Prescott four
and three record on Thanksgiving Days, Ed, what do you
(00:50):
have to say today?
Speaker 5 (00:51):
Well, I thought the most interesting thing he had to
say was about his confidence in Cede Lamb despite his
poor game the other day. No lack of confidence in
his guy who's been his top receiver for the duration
of his career. Maybe not so at the moment with
George Pickens' acquisition, but fully confidence to the point that
(01:12):
he's not even sure, a conversation is necessary between the
two of them, and then he just talked about, you
know how they've got to put what they did last
week as great an accomplishment as it was as a
team and as for him individually, that they've got to
put all that behind him and it's got to be
a one game mindset again.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
Yeah, I think with this game here and the Chiefs,
not only are you running through a three game and
twelve day stretch, but you're playing physical teams within those
three days, and so the bodies are the big thing.
And when that comes to know Dak Prescott in this offense,
I mean, you have George Pickens that's banged up this week,
you're not gonna have your left tackle and Tyler Guidon
most likely, and so you know, it's kind of working
through the madness right now on a short week, and
(01:51):
it's not easy. These short weeks are not easy. But
the one benefit that they do have both of these
games are at home. They don't have to worry about
travel this week, and every hour does count this week
for sure.
Speaker 5 (02:00):
They do it every year, right, That's that's an adventures. Yeah,
as opposed to a team like Kansas City that doesn't
ordinarily play in this game and is burdened with having
to play on the road and presumably in a hostile environment.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
So Pickens, what did shod he have to say today?
Speaker 6 (02:16):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Yeah, with Pickens, he said that he would go out
and practice today. He did come out. He was getting
treatment early in practice while everyone was warming up, and
then he jogged out there late to practice. He was
he technically was technically was.
Speaker 7 (02:27):
That that's the beginning of a holdout.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
But with he came out and he was doing drills
with the strength and conditioning staff. But it sounds like
George Pickens is going to play on Thursday. The bigger
concern is obviously Tyler Guitton and ohsa Did guzu Wa.
But it was good to see him out at practice
today too, after he didn't practice yesterday with an elbow.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Go through the injuries with those.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
Yeah, George Pickens dealing with a calf and knee, Tyler
Guyton dealing with an ankle, oh said, Gizua dealing with
an elbow, and gosh, there was one more that didn't
practice yesterday and I thought, rattled, No, he's good. He
was dealing with cramps in the game. He was not
on the injury report, Cavante's turpin. He's dealing with a shoulder,
and he did not practice yesterday. He was out there
today and then in the locker room he had a
(03:08):
kind of a bandage sling thing on it. It wasn't
a sling, it was more like a rap. So we'll
see what his availability looks like.
Speaker 7 (03:14):
Was he injured when he fell over the thirty yard line?
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Well, and I also mentioned illness on there, and I
was like, he was sick from the fumble.
Speaker 5 (03:22):
He was sick from that last guy who lost the fumble.
We know what happened to him.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
The one challenge.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
He didn't even lose that one. He didn't even lose that.
When you're talking about Jadon.
Speaker 7 (03:30):
Blue, I was talking about Miles Sanders.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Oh that's fair, that's fair. The challenging thing for the
Cowboys is sorry, Nick.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Back in the day, I accepted it.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
Back in the day for Edny when the Cowboys playing Thanksgiving,
you had ten days off.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
That's not the case this year. Name, It's not been
the case for a couple of years.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
The guy got to turn around and go to Detroit,
so not even the full ten days to get ready
for a Lion's team, which is pretty good.
Speaker 7 (03:53):
But they eventually get it. They just don't get it immediately.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
Right, But you were but you would think after three,
three and twelve, okay, boom, here's ten off and now
it's gotta go one.
Speaker 5 (04:01):
This is the way they wanted it, right They if
they were going to play a Thursday night game, they
wanted to do it after they played on Thanksgiving, so
they had a normal week of preparation going into that game.
Speaker 7 (04:11):
So this is their choice.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
This is this is going to be you know, just
just to this is a challenging stretch right now.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
So you've got the Raider game. You had to get
the Raider game.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
So you got the Raider game, you get Philadelphia, get
in Kansas City, you get those three that that's something
that's the hopium cowboy fan wants right now, that's the hopeingum.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
And that would make them six five and one.
Speaker 7 (04:33):
It was interesting.
Speaker 5 (04:34):
There's you know, everybody talks about the Chiefs and how
disappointing they are on offense.
Speaker 7 (04:38):
They're not what they used to be.
Speaker 5 (04:39):
And yet shot he says, he watches the film just
like you said about Philadelphia last week. He says, you know,
I don't. I don't see dysfunction. I see this guy's fast.
This guy's faster, this guy's fast. They still got Kelsey,
but Checko is coming back this week and of course
overseeing it all as Mahomes.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
So uh, Kansas City ninth end points per game, twenty
five a game, yards per game, fifth, three seventy six passing,
They are number two in the league.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
Sounds good to me.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Two fifty seven the case number one Cowboys are number one.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
There you go in that are But the problem is
when you look at the Cowboys pass defense, it's it's thirtieth.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
It's improving it.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
It's not thirty second anymore.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
It's improving, guys, damn it new.
Speaker 5 (05:17):
And given thirty not even thirty first anywhere, right, the
thirtieth man moving on.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
The Jefferson's man, moving on up, moving on up. But
third down percentage of the Cowboys still dead last forty nine
point three in the league. And that's not good because
Patrick Mahomes is pretty good on third down.
Speaker 5 (05:33):
That in red zone is there remains their problem on defense?
Speaker 4 (05:36):
Yeah, red zone percentage they are thirtieth. And then when
you talk about that, Kancay's offense is fourteenth in the
red zone percentage, and they are tenth in third down percentage.
But here's one interesting though, just kind of look into
the stats here. When it comes to sacks allowed, Kansas
City's tied for the thirteenth most. They've given up twenty
four a game. So from a defensive standpoint here, if
(06:00):
you can figure out a way to get Mahomes down,
this can play into your opportunity to get into the
fourth quarter and see.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
What you can do.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
Yeah, and they will not have Trey Smith in this
this ball game. They're all pro guard, so it's gonna
be more opportunities for this defensive interior, not only Quinn Williams,
but Osa Digizu has played his two best games since
Williams addition, and then not coincidentally at all. So yeah,
it's it's certainly I think that's where the path to
victory probably begins, is this defensive line getting home not
only on Mahomes but limiting Pacheco on his return and
(06:31):
then on the on the flip side, it's it's taken
advantage of this really good, really good chief secondary.
Speaker 5 (06:38):
But I would say if you look at the numbers
beyond the obvious, the thing that matches up best for
the Cowboys against the Chiefs from an offensive point of
view is Dak has been unbelievable with the play action
passing game, and he talked about it helps when you
have a legitimate runner that they really do have to
respect the threat of the running game. But he's got
(06:58):
thirteen touchdown pass and no interceptions, completing eighty two percent
of his throws on play action, which he says is
his favorite part of the game as a quarterback. That's
what he just said today. And if you look at
the Chiefs on defense, as good as Steve Spagnolo's defense
has been and as much experience as they have playing together,
they're allowing a completion percentage of eighty two percent and
they are one of the worst defenses in all of
(07:20):
football defending the play action passing game, just like the
Eagles were last week. And so when people talk about, hey,
the smart thing that Schottenheimer did is even when they
got three touchdowns behind, he kept running the football. Part
of the reason he kept running the football was he
wanted the play action game. He knows that's a bad
match out with the opponent.
Speaker 4 (07:37):
Love that they were not perfect symmetry, but darn near
close when it came to passing and running last week
against Philadelphia about what you wanted right there. So they
definitely ran the ball. And to your point right there,
did you look at the numbers? And if they can
do that again, that gives it once again. I tell people,
get it through the fourth quarter. That's it, man.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
If you can get these games into fourth quarter and
see what you can do. And now that you've the city.
Speaker 5 (07:59):
Last week was the first time they won a one
score game. They beat the team that had the best
record in one score games. The Eagles were seven and one,
best record in the NFL. The Chiefs won their first
one last week. They were virtually invincible the previous two years. Yes,
in one score games. You want to talk to seventeen
in a row. What's that stat you had?
Speaker 4 (08:17):
I mean I wrote that forty and two when they
win the turnover battle and you see Philly was he
just you know, there's a lot of things pointing towards
Philadelphia winning.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
I picked Philly to win.
Speaker 5 (08:25):
Yeah, they were the best team on the road under
Sirianni through forty games.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
There were a lot of positives, a lot of positives,
and the Cowboys get home, you know, home field and
a team you know on the division.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
We know anything that happen. So they got that there, and.
Speaker 5 (08:39):
Like Dak said, it's different when you know you can
count on the defense, right. The defense set the stage
with all the stops they got the other day. That's
how they came back in.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
That game, which is why I was so shocked.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
When it's twenty one, twenty one and shot he goes
forward on fourth down. My mindset said, wait a minute,
you just climbed the hill to tie it. Why not
take the lead.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
Yeah, you'd love seven, but dog on it. It was
so frustrated. Do that you owed to me, You owed
your defense that hey man, we just went up. I
was frustrated at that call. When they were bringing the
offense back out for that fourth down, had a couple
of Star Telegram constituents to my left and right. I
was like, I do not like this call at all,
Like they might score here, but I do not feel
good about this call. And then they didn't score. Not
only had your defense made seven consecutive stops, he had
(09:22):
all three timeouts and the two minute timeout. And you know,
Schottenheimer mentioned it it was either after the game or yesterday,
and talking through his thought process there, He's like, Okay,
let's say we kick it, we get the three, and
we're giving the Eagles the ball at the thirty five
yard line. It's like they only have twenty yards to
go to get in the field goal range, and you know,
it's obviously shorter to you know, get into the end
zone as well than it would be if they were
backed up at the two. And it kind of crossed
(09:44):
back to a point that Greg Olsen made a few
weeks ago on one of the broadcasts and saying that,
you know, with the new kickoff rules and then bringing
it out to the thirty five, it is going to
enable teams more to go for it on fourth down,
and even more so on like the fourth and four,
fourth and five situations because the the field position that
you're giving them on the flip side, it's basically canceling
out because you're almost putting them directly in field goal range.
(10:06):
Not really, but he's he's seeing a motion in the trends,
and the trends are there, and so I thought back
to that comment whenever you know shot he did go
forward in that instance, and but I still think, you know,
if it were maybe it's revisions history, but I definitely
would have it's a point this this is the way
people coaching the exactly don't want to the thing.
Speaker 5 (10:25):
The thing I had a bigger problem with was not
so much going for it, but you gain seven yards
on a run.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
To Jamonte Williams on the first to the next.
Speaker 5 (10:33):
Play is a pass that Dak runs right, and then
the next two plays are throws, like get under center,
they're in shotgun the last third, fourth down and undershot shotgun.
Speaker 7 (10:42):
Hate that like make him think you're gonna run even
if you're gonna throw.
Speaker 5 (10:45):
And so that was my I had a bigger problem
with the play calls, which shot he said, I call
plays for players, right, uh, And he wanted Dak and
he wanted CD and Pickens to have their opportunities. But
I thought that was a mistake, was the play calling
was bad. And you know what, they haven't been great
in the red zone. They are not great in the
red zone for a team that's second in the NFL
and scoring.
Speaker 4 (11:05):
Twelfth, twelfth in red zone touchdown percentage sixty to sixty
one point four.
Speaker 5 (11:09):
And with a team that can run the football, and
we saw they still have a quarterback who can run.
They should be far more effective in the red zone
than they have been.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
So staying right there for me.
Speaker 4 (11:19):
Another frustration part about that call, All right, let's go
up three. Defense is playing well. If I go up three,
my defense can get another stop. If we just keep
doing what we're doing, I could throw my kicker back
out here and he can give another Now it's six points,
you know, potentially in two dry take the field goal
away from right right. So that's my thing. Kick it
(11:40):
go twenty four to twenty one. Stevemen, defense, make stop, defense,
next stop, get the ball right back. Then I can
go up and do it one more time.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
Two things with that kicker.
Speaker 7 (11:47):
Two things.
Speaker 5 (11:48):
One is he's not used to having a defense he
can trust, only added for two weeks. And secondly, this
is all new to him, right, He hasn't done this before.
He's called plays a lot in his career, but he
hasn't been responsible first strategy, overall, game management, overall like
he is now.
Speaker 7 (12:04):
And you know what else was funny? This came out
just a little bit ago.
Speaker 5 (12:07):
Right, We've talked to Shotty multiple times about going for
it on the first series of the game, fourth and
three from midfield. When you just saw Dan Campbell's team
the week before gets stuffed five straight times on fourth,
third and on fourth down plays, you go for it
on your first possession. Turns out he didn't.
Speaker 7 (12:24):
Want to go for it. Dak wanted to go for it.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
Who's the coach, Dak?
Speaker 5 (12:32):
I do love the trust there, But man, did Deak
make it seem like it was he was trying to
talk him into it. They ran out of time, the
headset went off, and they were kind of stuck.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
Parcels had this great line when he was here. He said,
never trust the players every time.
Speaker 3 (12:49):
That's his thing. Don't trust to play They don't trust
to play it.
Speaker 7 (12:53):
Well, Shody followed that of us. You didn't trust Illinois
either on the block.
Speaker 3 (12:56):
Butt, Yeah, that's tough to where you gonna say Nick
before the no, no, no, that was it?
Speaker 4 (13:02):
All right, let's get our first break in here. Some
numbers on George Pickens here and Ceedee Lamb also spoke
Ceedee Lamb, who before this Fay good as the Eagles
are out of his his his purview. Now hopefully I
don't see him in the playoffs right now, because Ceede.
Speaker 7 (13:17):
Lamb, I Butt, they'd like to see him in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
So my gosh, he's been bad against Still let's talk
about that next right here on the media match, this

It's It's pretty good. I bought the one last year.
Was Landy Wilson.

Bought it for our daughter law Don't she wears it
all the time.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
So what's your favorite Landy Wilson's song. I couldn't have
me one, I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
Nick, I can't Maybe one Lady Wilson, the.
Speaker 7 (16:23):
One she does on the four Trucks with Jerry all
the time. That's my favorite one.
Speaker 4 (16:27):
I mean, I get the Cowboys credit because she's performed
thet I figured out who she was. Other than that,
I had no clue. Apparently she's really popular and really good.
Speaker 7 (16:35):
But yeah, they're both big time acts.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
I know that.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
Yeah, the same thing with the one they had the
year before, Dolly Parton.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
I think Dolly Parkon.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
I didn't know her.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
They brought out.
Speaker 7 (16:43):
They're trying to bake me.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
I didn't know Dolly Parton. The luke dude didn't know.
Speaker 7 (16:48):
Dolly Parton has been around for a hundred years.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
Yeah, you knew. How Ever, I knew. You just knew.
You didn't know what she's saying. You just knew who
she was.
Speaker 3 (16:55):
I knew a couple. My mom grew up on Dolly Parton,
so it naturally it trickled its way in it.
Speaker 7 (17:00):
Does anybody here know a Post Malone song?
Speaker 3 (17:02):
Yeah, he didn't even know. I'm I'm a big post
fan personally.
Speaker 7 (17:04):
What do you got? What's your favorite one? Uh?
Speaker 3 (17:06):
I probably go with the Saint Trope. It's one early
earlier in his career.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
Congratulations, I like that one. I like that one.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
Congratulations.
Speaker 7 (17:13):
Name another one?
Speaker 2 (17:16):
The Iverson song, the first one?
Speaker 4 (17:18):
Yeah, and so there's you know, so I've come to
find out there's two artists. I didn't know it was them,
but I knew the songs because of my kids, post
Malone and Justin Bieber, and then Jack Harlowe's another one.
I didn't notice, like first class, didn't know that was him,
but you heard all the time because you kids like, ah, yeah, yeah,
(17:40):
and it's like catchy, like you know it first. Oh yeah, yeah,
Oh that's him. So that's that's okay. Yeah, I was
very upset.
Speaker 7 (17:47):
I know he has a beer commercial.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
It's pretty good, hey Man post post warmon making canes.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
I mean, dude, dude was doing well for HI stuff
coming from Great Vine High schools.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
I ain't mad at him.
Speaker 5 (17:55):
And you saw the story Jerry told about him right
that he is. His father was ar of catering at
the stadium and his mom worked, so actually had a
bed a cot where he would bring his son to
work and he would sleep at the stadium.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
How about that.
Speaker 7 (18:11):
So he's got a long history with the Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
Yeah, it was a beverage manager. I believe it was something.
Speaker 4 (18:16):
Like that hotel at and T also a hotel at
and T Stadium.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
It was Texas Stadium.
Speaker 4 (18:20):
No, Texas, Texas even better. Had to bring your blanket.
The weather was coming through, you know, even better.
Speaker 7 (18:28):
So I can't name a song, but I've got a
few anecdotes.
Speaker 4 (18:31):
Which is more important to have story anyway, right exactly,
That's why, that's why you're here on the media manage man,
George Pickens. How about these numbers here for twenty twenty five,
NFL ranked number two in receiving yards one thousand and
fifty four. The only person with more Jackson Smith in Jigbove,
Seattle and from the DFW area one thousand, three hundred
and thirteen. When it comes to twenty five plus yard receptions,
(18:53):
he's tied for second in the NFL with ten first
down receptions, He's tied for first with fifty seven, and
his eight receiving touchdowns make him third in the league.
DeVante Adams of the Rams is number one with twelve.
Saint Brown of the Allions is number two and nine.
So George Pickens is bawling out of control right about.
Speaker 7 (19:14):
I just passed a rating in football. And oh, by
the way, the pack prescott to George Pickens.
Speaker 4 (19:19):
Yeah, the Pittsburgh Steelers wide receivers combined have left less
yards than George Pickens one thousand and fifty four.
Speaker 7 (19:28):
And they're playing with Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
That was my next thing, playing with a Hall of
Fame quarterback somebody. But they're getting the third round pick
from the Cowboys. Oh yeah, I can't forget that. Yeah,
two picks, two picks. So yeah, they messed that dealer,
They missed that. As bad as people have given Jerry
grief about some trades he's made Mingo fourth rounder, Trey
(19:51):
Lance fourth rounder, he won this one.
Speaker 7 (19:54):
He won this one. As long as he keeps him.
You always got to bring the doom and gloom and no,
I'm bringing in reality.
Speaker 5 (20:01):
You and Tony Grosey, you don't fully win the trade
if you acquire twenty four year old player and he
helps you go six and ten or seven and ten
or whatever.
Speaker 7 (20:08):
This team's gonna be.
Speaker 4 (20:09):
You and your facts in fact opinion, damp facts man,
You and your.
Speaker 7 (20:15):
Agree with that.
Speaker 5 (20:16):
Like, to totally win the trade, you have to have
the player for the duration of his career.
Speaker 4 (20:20):
Hey, look, man, I've long since wondered about some of
the moves they've made. I go back to Mariy Cooper
when you made the trade for a Marii Cooper and
you knew you were giving up a one. Why was
he not immediately signed a contract. It's like when Darius
Slay went from Detroit to Philadelphia. Okay, thank you for
coming here, here's the deal.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
Let's go.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
Instead they make a Marii play and then Steven talks
about we need guys all take a little lesson pie,
blah blah blah. We're not gonna set the high. We're
not set in the market. Did anybody see in this case?
Speaker 7 (20:47):
Though?
Speaker 5 (20:47):
I think there was a little more character risk than
there was with the Amari Cooper trade, and so maybe
that was part of the reason.
Speaker 7 (20:52):
They didn't want to do anything until they saw the
kind of player.
Speaker 4 (20:54):
And you saw it. But once you saw it, it's like, hey, hey,
let's run down here. At least try, right, I would
at least try tell me no, tell me no, but
to not even have a conversation.
Speaker 7 (21:06):
Do we know who the Asian is yet?
Speaker 4 (21:09):
We know, we know, we know, we know he knows too,
he knows too. But I would, I mean, I would
just and that's just me. Maybe because I went to
business school. He's figured this part out at least make
the offer. Meg, I'm gonna make you tell me.
Speaker 6 (21:21):
No.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
Nick, if you can say.
Speaker 7 (21:23):
I'm gonna show you I want you.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
You may say new, I hate your offer. Now we
all wait, but I'm.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
Gonna at least come to you and say, hey, maybe
maybe I never.
Speaker 5 (21:30):
Know I never Isn't that a way to reflect the
appreciation for what he's meant to your team to this
point is to go make an offer before one's necessary.
Let's try to avoid all the issues that became insurmountable
with our last prominent player we tried to do a
deal with in Michael Park's Let's avoid all that by
doing something during the season.
Speaker 2 (21:49):
And for me, we know how much Jerry loves Da.
Speaker 4 (21:52):
We know he loves him based on how he's paid
him two times made in the highest paid.
Speaker 5 (21:55):
He didn't want to do that, By the way, That
doesn't it's not really a reflection of love. It's it's uh, yeah,
he likes him to have him as his quarterback.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
He got put in that person. I do have a
devil's avocate point.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
Who put him in that position?
Speaker 3 (22:07):
I have a devil's advocate point, But go ahead, no, no, no,
I want to hear your thought, first.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
If you love this player so much and you believe, hey,
we've got Dak Prescott dot that do why not make
sure he has a top target because we're clearly seeing
what he has when he has good weapons and we've
got enough proof now when you try.
Speaker 7 (22:23):
He knows that. He said that himself. Jerry has said
that himself.
Speaker 3 (22:26):
The CDs and the Maydies don't work.
Speaker 4 (22:28):
Okay, that it's the dude they tried to roll out
there one time before Amari Cooper and he didn't work
with Lawle.
Speaker 2 (22:36):
Was the Wilson not Wilson. Wish they had Alan he
or somebody else.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
It was some It was some buster cold Beasley the rapper.
Speaker 4 (22:44):
No, wasn't cold. Wasn't you that it was an outside guy,
black dude? Uh, brother Cole Beesley the rapper. It was
a complete joke.
Speaker 3 (22:54):
I'm trying to think.
Speaker 7 (22:55):
Uh.
Speaker 12 (22:56):
I think it was like Alan hurt. I can't anyway,
it was it was bad. Alan Hearns was here, yeah,
but it was like, you can't sell this to me.
We like our guys and the Deontay Johnson. I mean,
they keep trying to come up with these little dudes.
Speaker 5 (23:06):
We'll be better off if we don't have a number
one receiver, they'll not know who to devote their coverage to.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
Red Brandon Cooks, he ended up being that guy.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
It wasn't branded.
Speaker 4 (23:16):
But no, I'm saying, like in the CD era and
right right right, and it just so you figured it out.
Speaker 2 (23:21):
Okay, so you figured it out. Pay the man. Yeah,
it's gonna cost you, but okay, you ran off to.
Speaker 7 (23:26):
The part of the nill. It's part of winning football.
Speaker 4 (23:28):
If you don't want to pay Michael Parson, it's fine,
but you're gonna you know, at eighty two years old,
you can't take it with you.
Speaker 3 (23:33):
Man, you might as well spend it. Your point, my
devil's after give it point. I'm not saying I believe it,
but this is this is the advocate point. The Cowboys
are in the red in twenty twenty six salary cap wise.
Not only are they in the red already, they are
more in the red than any other team in the NFL.
They are going to have to figure out some contracts.
Trayvon Diggs goodbye. Yeah, most likely you have three defensive
(23:55):
tackles that you're dedicating sixty four million dollars to. You're
gonna have to figure out one of them, whether that's
a Kenny Clark restructure and OsO restructure pushing Quinn Williams
down the line, You're gonna have to figure something out
there as well, and you're still gonna have to make
some other maneuver to Terrence Steele's another one that's that's
probably point and.
Speaker 7 (24:12):
You want to sign John Monty Williams. That's gonna cost you.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
Donovan Wilson is a contract you probably have to look at.
So there are a lot of things that you were
going to have to do. I think before you get
to the George Pickens number and whatever that George Pickens
number ends up being, it's going to take from whatever
pie you have to kind of figure out from this side.
I hate to use pie. I can't believe I just did.
I sound like sound like I sound like these guys downstairs.
But you're gonna have to figure out what comes out
(24:36):
of it before Pickens can go into it. That's just
my devil's appect.
Speaker 5 (24:38):
I think this might be one of the ones though,
where you can go to your quarterback or he may
come to you and say, hey, I'm willing to help
on this one.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
Yeah, that's another one that was precisely.
Speaker 4 (24:45):
But I told somebody yesday you go to dak Hey, hey, Bud,
I want.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
To help you.
Speaker 7 (24:49):
Yeah, I need you, help me, help you.
Speaker 3 (24:50):
Jerry McGuire, help me, help you. And the Josh Allen
contract should help that from the Cowboys standpoint of being, like, look,
Josh Allen got a new contract to add for you.
He's an MVP in this league and he's not making
more than you. You have not won an a MVP yet,
you haven't even gotten this to the NFC Championship game.
We feel like we can take you know, and it
should be fair, But I don't know that's that's just me.
Speaker 4 (25:10):
Or once again, you're pushing a whole lot of money
out to whenever or wherever.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
But but but do it. You have to. You have to.
Speaker 4 (25:19):
You can't go make the pickings trade, not sign pickings.
You've got a a he's.
Speaker 7 (25:23):
Twenty four years old.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
That's insane, isn't that, Coru.
Speaker 4 (25:26):
You got a kicker who is as automatic as it gets.
I said on the last show here, once pickings make
that catch, you said to yourself, okay.
Speaker 7 (25:35):
Game over right?
Speaker 4 (25:36):
Where does you where do you want it right? Or
which side you want it on? This is a league
where you can't feel that way about a lot of kickers.
You have that you pay for that pay for the
peace of mind. It's like get a good old insurance.
You pay for it.
Speaker 2 (25:50):
Whatever it costs from Randon arm In my mind, that's
worth it. I don't care.
Speaker 4 (25:54):
I don't care if he goes the way of Harrison Bucker,
who's went downhill after signed his contract.
Speaker 2 (25:58):
But you know what, dog gone.
Speaker 3 (25:59):
Andy's got a couple of rings on his finger, so
it's kind of worth it.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
In my opinion.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
George Piotts and Savone Revel are in the same high
school graduating class. It's crazy to think about it is
crazy to think about it.
Speaker 5 (26:11):
A lot, a lot of years left off as far
as one guy being so accomplished in the league and
the other guys he didn't get, getting.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
In game, getting here.
Speaker 4 (26:20):
But ravel was, you know, living it up man at
the Hill at East Carolina. Man, he was only there
a year.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
It doesn't matter, bro, Yeah, you.
Speaker 4 (26:27):
Just be go to the hill a couple of times, brothers,
and lifetime of memories.
Speaker 3 (26:31):
Right, let me tell you, let me tell you you
sneak over, sneak over there when you win.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
He spent some good some good weekends East Carolina.
Speaker 3 (26:38):
And say this, they have one of the coolest baseball
stadiums in college baseball.
Speaker 4 (26:42):
Pirate, Pirate Radio, the fans. I'm telling you, man, it is.
It is a great environment.
Speaker 7 (26:48):
Man.
Speaker 4 (26:49):
I love me some East Carolina and the Pirates. Purple
and Gold City, Greenville, Greenville, that's right, Greenville, col full Greenville, Greenville, Greenville,
not on Greenville, Greenville, Greenville, North Carolina.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (27:00):
Jim Valvano one time had a meeting packed when he
was coaching NC State, had a big pack booster meeting.
Speaker 2 (27:05):
Who fluted South Carolina.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
He's like, where's the meeting.
Speaker 4 (27:08):
Oh no, dude, it's in North Carolina. They flew him
to the wrong spot and only a way that Jimmy
Valvano can tell the story.
Speaker 2 (27:15):
He's like, yeah, look at a round here, have way
to go.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
And he walked into the real meeting. He's like, I'm
here Greenville and they were like, all right, dude, get
out of here. You Yes, that's over two, yes, yes,
gott I love that Jimmy Valvano.
Speaker 4 (27:26):

Edwarder the Hall of Famox is here. I had three daughters.
Speaker 3 (30:07):
I get it, I got it.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
You got stacking anything you just redistributed funds. Nick Cares
the Forwards on telling new Scruggs, Okay, where's the hoping
level for you at now?
Speaker 3 (30:19):
Ed?
Speaker 4 (30:20):
Cause you know, cowboy fan gotta win. Beat the Eagle
caw would be them good. I mean I was the
only one on my show, The Players Lounge that didn't
pick the Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
Everybody picked the Cowboys win by feeling good.
Speaker 3 (30:31):
So where's your hopium level at Ed?
Speaker 7 (30:34):
I'd say it's as high as it's been at any
point this season? Is that Is that a statement? Or no?
Speaker 2 (30:38):
Is a statement?
Speaker 5 (30:39):
I mean, with how well the defense is playing, and
I felt like if they could beat the Eagles, it
was not inconceivable that they would then have the confidence
and the ability to beat these next two teams, the
Chiefs and the Allions.
Speaker 7 (30:53):
I think they could do. I think they're capable of
it now.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
Nick, they can only lose one more game down the stretch.
I just don't see that happening. I think they I
think they rattle off a really strong back half of
the year. I think they barely miss out on the playoffs.
Though it's tough, and even if you do get just
one loss the you're gonna need some help around you.
Speaker 2 (31:11):
And that's the thing I've told people.
Speaker 4 (31:13):
Let's just say they get on a run right now,
you beat Kansas City and miraculously go to Detroit and
figure out a way to win.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
You need so much help.
Speaker 4 (31:21):
Last night, when I was watching the Niner game, I
told spiep Man, you got to hope that that Carolina
gets on it starts to nose dive a little bit.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
And they don't look like their nose dive.
Speaker 4 (31:30):
I mean, I know they went last night, but you're
gonna need Like said Nick, you gonna need some help
here along the way.
Speaker 5 (31:35):
And I think Dak said he was hoping that forty
nine ers are gonna lose because that division is three
teams that could go to the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
It's a good division, good division, good coaches.
Speaker 12 (31:44):
Man.
Speaker 13 (31:44):
I just I just like, how come the Cowboys have
never played that brock party. Apparently it's a Monday night thing.
He's played five in.
Speaker 7 (31:55):
A campaign to play our forty nine ers game on
Monday night.
Speaker 3 (31:58):
He's played five and a half.
Speaker 7 (31:58):
Well, the Cowboys played them on my He was fine,
and he.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
Threw eleven picks in five and a half Monday night
games in his career.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
It was Habriko Dabbo last night. He looked like a
regular guy.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
He didn't buckle up.
Speaker 7 (32:08):
You know, apparently a Paaraback didn't buckle up.
Speaker 3 (32:11):
I can tell you that, you know what buckled up
enough of the Cowboys, right yep.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
That's that's the that's the wildest.
Speaker 5 (32:17):
Thing we thought Arizona and that one. Those are the
two that potentially cost him. If they don't make the postseason,
it'll be because of those two losses.
Speaker 4 (32:25):
And maybe if Jack Sanburn doesn't get hit in the
back with the football, maybe you know, they get.
Speaker 2 (32:30):
The Packer win. You know it was one second or
two seconds? Second?
Speaker 3 (32:33):
Okay, one second?
Speaker 7 (32:34):
Well, he had a better timekeeper.
Speaker 3 (32:38):
Yeah, where's the home clock. Where's the home clock in
this building.
Speaker 5 (32:43):
So I'm not saying they're going to make the playoffs,
but it's going to be if they do way, they
won't what all of us expected, start playing their best
football from this point forward. It's going to be really
bad to look back on what they did with the
first half of the season.
Speaker 7 (32:56):
And really that's the.
Speaker 5 (32:57):
Front of the fault of the front office for not
putting a good enough team together, knowing the injuries that
were gonna have when the season began on defense, the
changes they were making on defense to not have the
right personnel, and.
Speaker 2 (33:08):
That's all I was gonna say. The same thing right there.
This is going to be the front office.
Speaker 4 (33:11):
And overvaluing the talent that you have. And unfortunately they've
done that far too many times here in the last decade,
where they've looked dot, we like our guy in the line, here,
we like our guys, and we're just sitting here watching
this team and training camp and' like, now you got
some problems here and it could go back to buy
them in the butt.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
But all right, twenty six comes around here.
Speaker 4 (33:32):
If you do what we've talked about signing a Pickings
and getting Aubrey under contract here.
Speaker 5 (33:38):
I do like I do all of a sudden, like
I was anti Michael Parson's trade. I was critical of
them for not only trading the player, sure, but for
the timing sure, even more so, like a week before
you play Philadelphia to start the season, you're telling your
locker room you're investing in next season and the season
beyond more than you are in this one. But I
kind of like the vision that they seem to have
for their defensive line now with these three guys, Like
(34:01):
I can see the value in it now, where maybe
in the moment I didn't like when Jerry sat up
there and talked about we're gonna have size playing run deep,
as they played pretty good run defense the last two weeks.
Speaker 7 (34:09):
I think they're fourth in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (34:10):
I'll say Donovan Azaraku is a rising star in my
opinion in this league. I think he's going to be Yeah,
he is. He is. He had a big day on
Founder's Day a couple couple of weeks ago, but it
is a it's cool to see and he's top four
in defensive Rookie of the Year odds right now. Across
the league. So that's that's a guy I think they
can rely on the edge as well moving forward.
Speaker 4 (34:29):
And Matty Eberflus can sleep at night because I think
anybody and we've been I feel like we gave grace
on this show because we asked the questions to him.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
Was the carpenter of the carpenter's tools.
Speaker 4 (34:41):
And going back and we've talked about how three straight
defensive coordinators this was a dan Quinn defense and they
still have not put in the kind of deep They
didn't give Zim the kind of players need you, and
that was happening here for Eberflus. He didn't have the
kind of personality. You start to see what happens when
again Wood he wants a fantastic three technique. You've now
got Quinn Williams here. I think you see Osodiggy Zua
(35:02):
left one on one can do what he does.
Speaker 2 (35:04):
Kenny Clark one on one can do what he does.
Speaker 5 (35:06):
That's what they create with the five man line, right,
almost everybody gets single block.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
Beautiful, beautiful.
Speaker 5 (35:12):
Now at least you're a little vulnerable if they do
pass protect on the back on the back end, and
we may see that against the Chiefs because the Chiefs
have some speed at wide receiver, as we mentioned earlier,
and we got to mix it and I got a
quarterback who can move around.
Speaker 4 (35:23):
Got to mix it up. But just if they can
get it in the fourth quarter. That's my big thing there.
With this defense playing well as it is right now
and being able to stop the mon get the ball
and get it to the fourth quarter, they just got
to stop making some of these mistakes. It's pre stat penalties,
you know, geeting and he probably won't play this week,
but just that's gotta stop. And I know Parcels used
to wido coach penalties, Well damn it, they're happening under
(35:44):
your watch, so you are coaching it.
Speaker 3 (35:46):
Shot.
Speaker 2 (35:46):
He's got to get better there. And that's that's the
whole team.
Speaker 4 (35:49):
I don't know whether it's shoddy getting in guy's rear
ends more or guys getting in each other's rear.
Speaker 7 (35:54):
En problem McCarthy had. It never solved.
Speaker 5 (35:58):
Yeah, for five years, they were one of the most
pedalized teams in the league.
Speaker 2 (36:01):
He had the worst excuses ever me. He's like, yeah, yeah,
well the first year it happened. In the second year,
will get better.
Speaker 3 (36:08):
Whatever, Just like anything. Yeah, that's this phrase. Yes, what
if Nate Thomas goes down in these next two games
and balls out? No penalties, maybe only a sack allowed,
couple of pressures.
Speaker 2 (36:20):
Theory, just a theory.
Speaker 4 (36:23):
We talked about salary cap next year and potential Tarann Steel.
Do you take Guyton moving to right if you think
Nate is actually decent and put him over here here?
Speaker 3 (36:34):
He doesn't agree?
Speaker 4 (36:35):
Series letting me know that North coach Eric Morris is
accepted the job at Oklahoma State.
Speaker 2 (36:41):
So that's what Series just tell me.
Speaker 3 (36:42):
But I think it's an option. I think it's an option.
Speaker 5 (36:47):
He's a kind of value player they need to have
if they're going to make significant savings.
Speaker 3 (36:50):
If they do that, you better bet one of these
first to these two first round picks are going to
be used on a tackle. Then, Because are you confidently
throwing Nate Thomas out as your left tackle?
Speaker 7 (37:02):
They got seven games to figure it out.
Speaker 4 (37:05):
Well, even if you want to put it right, I
mean look or right or right either way, I think
he's I think he's a good backup swing tackle.
Speaker 2 (37:14):
Okay, what on's again?
Speaker 5 (37:17):
When did the Cowboys spend premium draft picks on offensive exactly?
Speaker 2 (37:21):
Exactly at some point that we're gonna stop doing that.
Speaker 3 (37:24):
Yeah, yeah, I agree.
Speaker 7 (37:25):
But well that's part of their philosophy.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
Yes, somebody's yelling for their daddy outside.
Speaker 3 (37:30):
Yet I think it's be do.
Speaker 7 (37:31):
You're the one who looks the most nervous among it.
Speaker 3 (37:33):
All, right, it's not me.
Speaker 2 (37:33):

Speaker 3 (37:34):

Speaker 3 (37:46):
Well when they were when they were hooping back in
what was it, nine twenty ten, I was kind of
a little Bandwagon fan, you knows, as a child, and
I kind of stuck with him over the course of
the last decade or so and just kind of they're on, like,
you know, one of my favorite teams on the app,
you know, And so when we go to the Combine
every year, I try to swing over to Hankle and
that's one of the coolest places to watch a basketball
game in the world.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
So they let me down, man, they let me down.
Speaker 3 (38:06):
Who did Butler by not beating Duke? Right?
Speaker 2 (38:10):
There right there, man, right.
Speaker 3 (38:12):
I cried as a kid. So I that's that's that's
why I say I can wear this hoodiecause I shed
tears that night.
Speaker 4 (38:17):
Only to watch to watch Duke almost lose at the Buzzer,
then only to go see Carolina and Houston lose to
Villanova in the Buzzer.
Speaker 2 (38:27):
Yeah, it's painful things, man.
Speaker 4 (38:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (38:29):
I talked to John Machoda about it a couple of times. Actually,
he's a big Duke guy, and he said, he said,
when that shot was up, he knew what was going in.
He's like, I just knew Gordon Hayward to put that
shot in and right off the front rim.
Speaker 4 (38:40):
I've seen too many of those, man, Between those lightner
shots and seeing that thing heart.
Speaker 5 (38:46):

the offseason. No, we're the thick of it here, like
they're back in it again.

of me. Is Michael Park He's a Duke fan.
Speaker 2 (39:00):

Speaker 3 (39:02):
Had a lot of bandwagons frontrunn.
Speaker 2 (39:04):

with him.

I was working with him. Man, we'd get into a
little bit all right. Happy Thanksgivingsday, Happy Thanksgiving. Yes, Jerry
has an incredible Thanksgiving Day spread.
Speaker 3 (39:22):
I tell you right that is there anything on y'all's
table growing up that is not on most tables? Probably?
Speaker 4 (39:29):
Uh my mom's rolls next level. And the cranberry sauce
she made was next time for Alabama. So it's a
homemade you know, the real cranberries where you chop them
up in the little blender and throwing some orange peels
and a bunch of sugar.
Speaker 3 (39:45):
She started cooking on Monday.
Speaker 4 (39:47):
Uh, my great grandmother could start on Wednesday and get
it done.
Speaker 7 (39:54):
My wife started cooking for stock on Sunday.
Speaker 4 (39:57):
See right there, see right there, cooking the stock and
that cool thing the liz gizzards and all kind of
stuff wing that.
Speaker 2 (40:04):
You purt see see see see she's doing it right.
Speaker 3 (40:07):

Speaker 2 (40:08):

How are you making it? That's that's the thing, man,
How you making it? Because there's you know.

Say you please make sure it's you know, thoughed, you
know rolls and went up here. And so I remember
one times, Yeah, I got this chef. Never heard of
