Do you have new Scrugs and.

Shaq Taylor's word, there's Nick Harris bringing you cowboy takes
here by.

Speaker 4 (00:44):
The way, in case you didn't check your Twitter. Okay,
are you kidding? Let's not check our Twitter.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
You want another Emmy?

Speaker 5 (00:55):
No, they will, No Nick one an Emmy up for one.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
August nineteenth, Finally Netflix is going to release that whole
Jerry Jones documentary because remember they followed around for two
years and they're all here, so finally they now have
it ready to go. So August nineteenth, America's team, the
Gambler and his Cowboys and aren't burial Edwarder and Rick
Gozlan friend, they're Hall of Famers, Hall of Famer.

Speaker 4 (01:21):
Yeah, they've been interviewed for this. Can you give us
any sneak peek anything.

Speaker 5 (01:26):
They were primarily interested in our involvement, direct involvement in
the Orlando incident in which Jerry said some very public,
very demeaning things about Jimmy Johnson immediately after they'd won
back to back Super Bowls that ultimately led to the

(01:46):
demise of that partnership prematurely. How premature it was, nobody knows,
but I think Jimmy would have coached one more year
for the chance to win three Super Bowls in a row.
But they were very interested in that, and I was
interested in doing it because I had heard that the
version as I remember thirty some years ago, was not
exactly the version Jerry, which so I felt it was

(02:11):
important for the sake of accuracy that Rick and I
participate in that. And you know, the whole thing began
when we were walking out of the bar late that night,
and a group of about a dozen sports writers drinking
at a table near where Jerry was drinking with Larry
lace Well started had been reduced to about four people,

(02:35):
and we went to walk out to the elevator to
go to our respective rooms. And Jerry grabbed me by
the pants leg and said, you don't want to you
don't want to leave now, and I said why not?
He said, you're going to miss the story of the year.
And I said, what's the story of the year And
he said, I'm going to fire that blankety blankety blankety
blankety blankety blankety Jimmy Johnson. And so I felt like
we should sit down and have another beer with the man.

Speaker 6 (02:56):
I can attest that that storyline is very important to
that Netflix show because two years ago we were in Carolina.
This is twenty twenty three, and that press conference has
happened and the game has already started. We're trying to
get back up to the to the press bucks and
all the Netflix cameras are coming through watch out where
with Netflix, we need to get the elevators.

Speaker 7 (03:12):
Like we're working to guys like.

Speaker 8 (03:13):
F off, Yeah, that's the proper answer.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
Yeah, well that's what they did. They were that's exactly
what we did. Yeah, that's exactly what we did, and
and like we don't work for you, we don't. We're like,
oh you have a job, Yeah I do too. We
gotta be upset, Yeah, we don't care.

Speaker 5 (03:27):
Well, maybe maybe that maybe we will get some sense
of why that decision was announced in such a weird
fashion on the road. It's seemingly like a haphazard production
of announcing Jimmy Johnson's going in uh to the Ring
of Honor.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
Finally, as it was interrupted since it was playing. It
was playing, and so it was during the nfl FA
show with Jimmy's a part of So they made the
announcement there. Then they held the press conference before the game,
game kicks off.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
They're still talking. But to do it all on the
road made no sense.

Speaker 7 (04:00):
That's so weird.

Speaker 5 (04:04):
I had and Jimmy had been told so many times
that that Jerry was going to put him in that
he came not to became to the point where he
doubted it would ever really happen.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
Yeah, I remember when I sat with Jerry at training
camp the year before and said, Jerry, this is petty.
Jerry got a little upset and he said it wasn't
his job to worry about putting Jimmy Johnson in sniveling.
It's not matter. It doesn't matter Jimmy sniveling or not.
And then Kala Shaw comes the next day. It writes
a column off the off the sniveling thing. But this
is my theory. This is just my theory about that

(04:34):
whole day in Charlotte.

Speaker 4 (04:36):
They needed an ending. What's the best ending?

Speaker 6 (04:41):
You could have doing it in New he scruggs his homestate.
That's the best ending.

Speaker 9 (04:45):
And they could have been like the Sopriano could have
faded to black, but full circle tied together.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
Now, what's the worst thing that could happen? That's It's
always been one of the things I thought. The worst
thing could happen is if Jimmy passed away and he
never got in the ring on in Jerry's.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
Or if this series was done without Jerry making it
right with Jimmy. Isn't it a beautiful thing? How do
you make how do you make yourself the hero? Mister
magnanimous boy? I should I should do this.

Speaker 5 (05:12):
I forgot I forgive him for everything he did to
me and my franchise.

Speaker 4 (05:16):
Dammy, giv you know you's wrong, But I come on
in anyway. Just it may, but it should be fascinating
the whole thing.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
Because he had said at training him nobody was getting
in that year and it was not playing, and all
of a sudden it's gonna happen on December thirty to
find out.

Speaker 4 (05:31):
And it was October November when.

Speaker 7 (05:33):
We found out, Charlotte, that was November.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
Yeh, yeah, it was November, right before Thanksgiving.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
And then all of a sudden, it used you less
than a month to go ahead and put him in
there at the final home game, so which you know,
heck of a game. Heck of a game that day.
So interesting stuff. So anyway, it's coming out here. We'll
be able to check it all out in August August
nineteen Netflix.

Speaker 4 (05:53):
I can't wait. They do a good job. They do,
They do a good job if it's In.

Speaker 5 (05:56):
Fact, I was not sure I wanted to participate in
it initially when asked because I felt like, and this
is the point i made to them, like the most
valuable thing I'd taken away personally from my thirty plus
years of covering this team was that night and what happened,
specifically because I was involved directly in the story, like

(06:19):
there's never been a part of a story like this before.
No coach has ever left an organization at by decree
of the owner after winning back to back Super Bowls
and to have had a first hand role in the
whole thing. I mean, I didn't participate in the decision,
but I saw it all play out in a way
that only me and Rick Goslin for the most part,

(06:40):
so saw it play out because the other two guys
we got rid.

Speaker 8 (06:42):
Of, and you coushed him to say, I don't mean
we killed.

Speaker 4 (06:45):
But we did. We didn't move them. We didn't kill him,
but we would have.

Speaker 6 (06:49):
We would have if we'd had to the pond.

Speaker 5 (06:52):
But all the things that happened in the immediate aftermath
of that were part of this whole thing too that
I don't think anybody knows it. So if I was
ever going to do a book, nobody reads books anymore,
nobody pays writers to write books anymore. But I was
ever going to do a book, that would probably be
the most interesting part of the book. And am I
just gonna give it to Netflix? Why you can still

(07:14):
do it?

Speaker 4 (07:14):
Though? Still do the book? You can still do it.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
And plus you're you haven't seen what their version is
going to be, right, because there's always different versions of
the stories.

Speaker 9 (07:23):
You already said, Hey, no, there's a there's a Jimmy perspective,
there's a Jerry perspective, there's a Ricking perspective.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
How many books have we seen about the Civil War
written about Lincoln Michael right, right, So there's always another
perspective of another view.

Speaker 5 (07:39):
So, and it was interesting yesterday at Mini Camp, the
first day at Mini Caamp, I was I was standing
there and somebody in the organization came by and said,
I'm keeping an eye on interviews you would Ritt Goslin
do together? And I said, what does that mean? If
you screamed the Netflix? If they like, do you have
editorial influence in this project?

Speaker 4 (07:59):
They claim they don't. They claim that Netflix is making
all of the decisions whatever.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
Believe exactly.

Speaker 3 (08:05):
Yeah, you go, let Netflix come in here and just
just just poor gasoline all on.

Speaker 4 (08:08):
You know, I got it.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
It's very interesting because were you even born, Nick? Okay, yeah, Nick, wasn't.

Speaker 7 (08:17):
I don't think my mother graduated high school, to be honest.

Speaker 4 (08:19):
Wow, that's that's the fun part about these stories, Nick,
you miss a lot, but I love hearing it, hearing
story time, story time with those who are here. So
there's way more to Jerry than that. Yes, and but
you know before you were born.

Speaker 5 (08:37):
Uh, did you know that these guys were actually good?
It's like that they Yeah, they were dominated postseason.

Speaker 4 (08:42):
Yeah, like they won rings a whole so I've heard.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
Yeah, So what's upon a time emmett led the league
in rushing and they won a super Bowl and and
then his contract was up and Jerry played hardball. And
it made me think, as we were in the locker
room earlier today, there's another player who's really good that
Jerry's playing hardball with, named Micah Parsons.

Speaker 5 (09:03):
And he hasn't so far said two hundred guys could
rush the passer in this defense.

Speaker 4 (09:09):
I hadn't said that yet. Or five hundred, yeah, or
five hundred.

Speaker 9 (09:13):
So no, has he decided to go to first two
games without him?

Speaker 4 (09:17):
True? True?

Speaker 5 (09:18):
And I doubt as far as we know.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
George Seifford one city. No, he was saying talking about
Jimmy's brass.

Speaker 4 (09:26):
Yes, Jimmy's brass.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
Yes again, no about that either.

Speaker 7 (09:29):
I talked.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
Glory Days was early nighties baby.

Speaker 4 (09:33):
Yes, Yes, they were good, they were good. The ping
pong label was getting from working in the locker room today.

Speaker 7 (09:40):
Yeah, you have a ping pong table the nineties, get
out of here.

Speaker 4 (09:42):
Knew it.

Speaker 9 (09:43):
We had one on the Uh when do we have
the ping pong table?

Speaker 2 (09:47):
Was that after Parcess.

Speaker 4 (09:49):
Everything like that.

Speaker 5 (09:50):
Either Parcels ain't having no ping pong tables?

Speaker 2 (09:52):
Who had the ping pong table?

Speaker 4 (09:55):
That seems like a way type thing. Dave Campo, Campo
chan Gaily, one of those guys had I'll tell you
who it wasn't.

Speaker 5 (10:05):
Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells and Mike McCarthy.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
There you go, There you go. Mike is here doesn't
have the contract. How much do we look at Jerry
Jones and and him his management knowing he's going to
get this deal done, but you're trying to put a
new defense in. I'm still trying to just understand. Haven't

(10:31):
we learned anything from Dak Prescott and Ceedee Lambs.

Speaker 4 (10:37):
I'm perplexed. I still don't know why.

Speaker 9 (10:39):
I'm perplexed, because there's no penance for doing what you do.
There's no penalty. You are the head chief and bottle
Washington the phrase, so there's.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
No penance for whatever you do. Whatever you do is
all good.

Speaker 5 (10:50):
So here's what I here's what I remember about Jerry's
stance on all this, and like he's very resolute about
the fact that it doesn't matter when I pay these guys, right,
I don't know how he justifies that it saves him
money because it never has. But like last year, when dat,
I mean, your quarterback signs on the day you're kicking
off the season, Like if he'd waited any longer, he'd

(11:12):
had to have, you know, McCarthy call a timeout and
run down during the first quarter and sign him during
the time out.

Speaker 4 (11:18):
But even after the.

Speaker 5 (11:19):
Season, even after CD missed everything last year at this
time and in training camp at the end of the season,
Jerry still denied that that had anything to do that
his abs has had anything to do with the problems
that they had initially on offense. So you can't convince
like both the players said it did, and yet Jerry
insists that it didn't.

Speaker 4 (11:39):
And so there's no reasoning with him on this.

Speaker 9 (11:41):
Because he's comfortable with ambiguity. Everybody's not comfortable with ambiguity.

Speaker 6 (11:45):
The issue from our perspective with Micah specifically, is that
you're dealing with two very good salesmen. You're dealing with
Jerry Jones and you're dealing with David Mulligta, and it's
two people that are really is who the agent is?
Apparently that's uh how to look that one up. These
are two people who have history of being able to
shape narratives and say as they please. So I am
very curious to see what Jerry has to say in

(12:07):
response to what Mike I had yesterday. Being it was
my question, I asked, Okay, you said it's in the
owner's hands, so are you waiting on the phone call?
And he's like, yeah, he has to get the green light.
It's in the owner's hands. So I want to go
to Jerry and be like, so is it as simple
as you just need to call Michael, you just need
to call David? Or is there more to it? Are
they not answering that phone call? Is there a phone
call that they are waiting on from TJ. Watt, from
Trey Hendrick? So how does that go?

Speaker 9 (12:27):
Hey, the player controls all of this because the agent
works for the player. Just like if you sell in
the house, the real estate agent works for you. And
at a certain point, if your house hasn't moved, price
it to sell it today, you know within reason. So
if Michael wants to move and he can say, hey, David,
let's get it going. U go make it happen, and

(12:48):
David'll be like, no, we need bro, I'm trying to
get it done. Let's go make it happen. But so
many times players forget that they worked for agents. I
mean that they that they employed the agent, and the
agent does what you ask him to do.

Speaker 5 (13:01):
But they're also influenced by like the players Union, like
they want this to be a record deal. Sure you know,
I mean, and the players usually feel like they have
some obligation to do that for those who are going
to follow them. If they have the leverage that Mica
seems to have right now, that Dacus so effectively, that
CDU so effectively, That don't mean that you can't say, hey.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
David, let's go get it done. That just means you
go say make the call and start the conversation.

Speaker 4 (13:29):
I just look at You've.

Speaker 3 (13:31):
Got a new head coach who's unproven, never done this before,
got a defensive coordinator's trying to put in a new systems,
the third straight defensive coordinator you've got here. You saw
some of the issues that last year Mike Zimmer spoke
about toward the end of the season, things he wished
he would have done to try to put these coaches
in a better position and the player in a better position.

Speaker 4 (13:52):
It would be hoopy to sign him.

Speaker 3 (13:54):
And that's me thinking about just what they said last
year CD lamb adak.

Speaker 4 (13:57):
These guys were here. That's the I'm perplexed. I don't
I don't get well.

Speaker 5 (14:03):
I guess we should commend Michael Parsons for doing what
Trey Hendrickson's not doing and what TJ.

Speaker 4 (14:08):
Watt's not doing.

Speaker 5 (14:10):
They're both trying to create leverage by withholding services and
Mike could have certainly done that. He chose not to,
even though they are I mean, he's been challenged right
to be a leader, and he's kind of showing Jerry.
I'm surrendering leverage here because I am participating in this
offseason as everybody learns this new defense. I am having
conversations with my new teammates about what it takes to succeed,

(14:33):
you know, at this level in the NFL. He could
be withholding all of that and he's not.

Speaker 4 (14:39):
Well.

Speaker 3 (14:40):
It is fascinating, and I think we're all in agreements
going to get done because Jerry doesn't lose players he wants.

Speaker 4 (14:48):
Except for de Marcus Ware.

Speaker 7 (14:51):
Jordan Lewis, I disagree with you. I'm Jordan Lewis, both okay, you.

Speaker 4 (14:57):
Didn't want the Marcus Ware.

Speaker 5 (14:59):
I think there were other people who didn't want DeMarcus
Ware and didn't think he was worth the money at
that time, coming off all the injuries. I think Jerry
would have signed DeMarcus Ware if it had been.

Speaker 4 (15:09):
Up to him. Exclusively, He and ultimately he makes a
final decision. I know he and I were at Toys
r Uss.

Speaker 3 (15:16):
Jerry, are you and DeMarcus de Marcus Toys r User?

Speaker 7 (15:19):
So it has been a long time, Yes, yes it was.

Speaker 4 (15:22):
It was they've done bank. Yes, they have been open
since I've been born.

Speaker 3 (15:25):
Yes, see what happens when you're about five?

Speaker 4 (15:29):
See what happens when you paid DeMarcus Ware.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
He we both talked about he was he was anticipating
I'm gonna be back, and he was literally, don't I
don't know if anybody's gonna sign I don't know.

Speaker 4 (15:41):
He was.

Speaker 3 (15:41):
He was worried about his career, like, you know what,
what what will happen to me?

Speaker 2 (15:47):
Nothing?

Speaker 4 (15:48):
I said, Yeah, somebody's going. Then you got a call
from Peyton Manning.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
Yeah, one wh went on what got got paid, won
a Super Bowl and helped Von Miller turn his career.

Speaker 4 (15:59):
Yes, yeah, he's in the Hall of Fame. So but yeah, no,
there were there were.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
That's an interesting call because there were definitely some people
who thought he's over priced, he's injured, and the same
thing happened to Tea Knew later on and who went
on to become a dude who lasted forever. It seemed
like so mistakes had been made around here, states have
been made so.

Speaker 5 (16:19):
So, but generally that statement is accurate. He very rarely
does anybody leave this organization that Jerry truly values. All right,
let's get some UHT for Jimmy.

Speaker 4 (16:29):
But he did did that. I did the whole first
full circle thing, just like flix. Jimmy made Jerry do it.

Speaker 3 (16:36):
Uh, when we come back, some mandatory mini camp notes

This is the final medium mash. We're training camp, so
so I've got to get it all in mandatory media camp.
Maybe we got Jack Taylor got it murder, there's ny
Caris I am new He Scruggs all right.

Speaker 4 (19:09):
Media camp notes that you've seen here so far.

Speaker 6 (19:11):
Start with you, Nick, Yeah, we could start with MICA's
participation today, specifically put the helmet on.

Speaker 7 (19:16):
After talking to Jerry Jones yesterday.

Speaker 6 (19:18):
He put the helmet on today and participated in individual drills,
and then once the team drills started he backed off
a little bit. But talking about some other guys, it's
we've seen a lot of George Pickens in these last
couple of days. During many camp or excuse me, during
OTA's I think it was more of a situation of
them working him in seeing how he would respond if
targets were going elsewhere. But we've really seen the target
share for number three get picked up over the course

(19:39):
of the last couple of days.

Speaker 7 (19:40):
That's been good to see.

Speaker 6 (19:42):
One thing that stood out to me today was a
Dak Prescott to Jake Ferguson touchdown on a seam route.
Jake Ferguson did talk about that in a locker room
and said that's his favorite route. It's Dak's favorite route
to throw, and those two didn't connect on it last
year too much. Obviously did not connect on it for
a touchdown, but they did today, and so that that
is one thing that they're looking to translate into Brian
Schottenheimer's offense. One defensive guy that just continues to stand out.

(20:06):
He's had a registered pass break up and every single
media availability through OTAs and through Mini camp is a
cornerback Hyer Elam.

Speaker 4 (20:13):
Now, they can't really.

Speaker 6 (20:14):
Do a whole lot physicality wise during these off season settings,
so you know, take it with a grain of salt,
but I think it is notable that you you have
a setting where you cannot be as physical and there's
a guy registering a PBu every single timeout. So found
that interesting for for Kyri Elam.

Speaker 5 (20:32):
To just kind of add to some of the US
observations Nick just made, Uh, Mike watching Micah Parsons do
some of the pass rush circuit and watching the guys
they've Matt Eberflus.

Speaker 4 (20:42):
Has a ton of pass rush guys on this defense,
so Roku looks good.

Speaker 5 (20:47):
Yeah, just there's a bunch there's a bunch of the
guys they you know, acquired and you know, either in
trades or through unrestricted free agency, who are veterans and
former number one picks, you know, Solomon, Thomas Turner. I mean,
they've got a lot of guys there. I don't know,
like you said, about the interior defensive line, that's the
big question and that's not going to get answered until

(21:09):
late into training camp, preseason games, and the start of
the regular season whether they can defend the run inside.
But I think those he's gonna have, they're gonna have
a lot of options in terms of edge rushers. And
then yeah, I mean the thing that impresses me most
about George Pickens is he seems to know where to
line up all the time. Like I only saw once

(21:30):
in two days where CD had him switch spots, and
there were times where they're both on the same side
of the formation and CD's in the slot. There's times
where they're both on opposite sides and they're both in
the slot. And Picking said today that he's being expected
to learn, you know, all the receiver positions and move
around just like Cede Lamb does. So that could be
a really dynamic combination. I mean, I think these guys

(21:52):
are going to score a lot of touchdowns this year.

Speaker 3 (21:54):
So I ended up talking to Elam in the locker
room as Well and asked, hey, what's kind of the
big difference from from here in Buffalo? He's like, hey,
you know I was there during training camp. I was
I had let them two years in a row in
pass breakups. You guys out there getting it done. But
the coaches kind of had some things that they wanted
to do differently. But he said he felt like he
had a real opportunity here in Shock. That made me

(22:17):
kind of look towards this cornerback. Room's got a lot
of questions in it right now. So there's an opportunity
for him to show us. Whereas in training camp in July,
and if Brian Schottenheimer lives at the way he talks
about one in competition, see where this thing goes from.

Speaker 8 (22:30):
That just smells like BS man, number one pick, you
ain't get no opportunity.

Speaker 9 (22:33):
Come on, man, stop you from a defensive mind to
head coach, stop you.

Speaker 5 (22:37):
And Well and Buffalo traded him and what did they?
What did was there number one need in.

Speaker 4 (22:41):
The draft cornerback?

Speaker 2 (22:43):
So it just didn't work out there.

Speaker 9 (22:45):
I buy that for whatever reason, here you have an opportunity.

Speaker 2 (22:49):
So you could take you could take full advantage of it.
Because they definitely need corners.

Speaker 9 (22:53):
I was, you know, I'm not surprised, but you know
why they're not sniffing around Gyr Alexander just to see
is there a fit.

Speaker 4 (23:01):
Because it's not cheap.

Speaker 5 (23:04):
You ain't you ain't you ain't paid Michael Parsons not
to mention all the games.

Speaker 2 (23:08):
You're trying to win games, you're trying to save money.

Speaker 4 (23:12):
I mean it's a position.

Speaker 9 (23:12):
And like we know, Michael go get done, so okay, fine,
and you know, maybe giving his set of circumstances because
he ain't played, but I think thirty four games in
the last four years, you get a Stephan Gilmore's kind
of why don't you come to the biggest, you know,
biggest team in town, the biggest team in the hotlight
on you?

Speaker 4 (23:33):
Is she better than Jalen Ramsey? I don't know.

Speaker 3 (23:36):
Depends on who he is and what the cost the
cost is there, but cost for Ramsey is exorbitant.

Speaker 2 (23:41):
And I mean this is.

Speaker 3 (23:42):
One where I go back to that Mickey used to
always when I re sure. Mickey always talked about saying,
you know, look at what, look at who's letting him
go and why this is a playoff team in the
Green Bay package.

Speaker 4 (23:53):
You've been there foreverything had men. Thanks, we're good, We're good.
And they invested the first round picking the guy.

Speaker 9 (23:57):
Everybody let the everybody let go this year. There's some
reason why you're being let go. But some teams can
be picky then others about who they want to add
off the trash heap. And so I just said investigate.
I just say, son, I like caught agent Hunch coming
down here, take it out. You know, have some three forks,
you know, see Dee maci mcguiss.

Speaker 2 (24:17):
You know, see we can get a little text mix.
I mean whatever, See, we can get something done.

Speaker 6 (24:20):
Circling back to the opportunity that Kyrie Elam has. Let's
say he does have an opportunity week one, week two.
When Trayvon Digs comes back, that opportunity is gone. It's
gonna be Trayvon Diggs dron Bland the slot.

Speaker 4 (24:31):
How many games is Bland missed?

Speaker 6 (24:33):
Yeah for sure, for sure. But what does that what
does that opportunity look like? When seven is arriving, it's like, hey,
thank you for your services, but you are reserved to
a reserve now again.

Speaker 8 (24:43):
I mean yes and no, you can make yourself.

Speaker 5 (24:46):
Bland can play the slot he's really Yeah, that's fair.
If he's exceptional. When those two players are on the
field and they're healthy and they're gonna play outside, I mean,
then Bland can move inside.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
Yeah, that's what I mean.

Speaker 8 (24:58):
You can make yourself a factor.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
But it's up to you, and you're not getting to
befitted a doubt.

Speaker 9 (25:03):
But if you play so well, you can y'all figure
it out.

Speaker 2 (25:08):
I'm here, I've been making it. I've been making to
do what to do.

Speaker 5 (25:10):
I do disagree with one thing you said. Since I've
been let go in my profession, I didn't think it
was justified. There was any merit to it at all.
So I disagree with you said there's a reason they
got let go.

Speaker 3 (25:18):
But he was probably standing cap casualty, Like yes, the
writer once told me was there's his story.

Speaker 4 (25:28):
Their story is somewhere something like in the middle right anyway.

Speaker 2 (25:30):
To tah Yeah, yeah, okay.

Speaker 5 (25:33):
So but it's also possible in Elim's case that they
play they use them in a different way, Like they
know what he couldn't do in Buffalo and how he
got exploited in Buffalo, and so they can use him
in a different way in their scheme. Whereas Buffalo maybe
really Sean mcdermot's the head coach, he doesn't want to
change his scheme to a comedy of player.

Speaker 2 (25:51):
That's all very true to me.

Speaker 3 (25:53):
This is just one of those And obviously they're they're
taking some chances on some guys here and trying to look, Hey,
what can we find. I know when I go to camp,
that'll be a player that I want to look at. See, okay,
here it is what could happen? Just knowing that there's
an opportunity in that room because things aren't set. Yes,
yes Diggs is coming back, but we don't know what

(26:14):
he's going to be, where he's at and will.

Speaker 4 (26:17):
He be ready for Philadelphia? Will be ready for the seconds?

Speaker 5 (26:19):
You didn't look like the same guy when he came
off his previous knee injury, let alone now a second one,
and that was what more a complex one?

Speaker 4 (26:26):
Right, right?

Speaker 3 (26:27):
So we don't know. And in a seventeen game season
with this schedule some of the you see some receivers
on the schedule, baby, and.

Speaker 5 (26:36):
If they're thinking they want to get out of this
contract at the end of the year, if they could
easily give you an opportunity that that digs what otherwise
aren't And you.

Speaker 4 (26:45):
And I are thinking right there, right there, you know.

Speaker 6 (26:48):
I'm getting also the last deals us the last year
on Elam's deal. So if they did get that opportunity,
they'd still to pay somebody at the end of the day.

Speaker 3 (26:56):
But you know how much you pay and how he
pays a whole lot, I mean for sure, And you've
done this long enough to know there if Elam has
a good year and he feels good here, he.

Speaker 8 (27:07):
Go back to the team to offer him the most money.

Speaker 4 (27:10):
Look at.

Speaker 3 (27:12):
There was a guy that I you know, they got that.
So so there's a possibility. And just if you're comfortable,
especially just if you felt like, man, there's issues in
Buffalo that didn't go right, and you feel like things
are good around.

Speaker 5 (27:24):
Here, and there are unique circumstances here and the coaches
believe in you.

Speaker 4 (27:27):
Again, no state taxes. I could see them getting a
deal done with him.

Speaker 3 (27:31):
And you know Bland is up too, So I mean
there's between I mean, there's so many guys that they
got to think about contract. Well, everybody can't stay first,
it's gonna be up. Bland is going to be up here.
Tyler Smith is getting he's getting the point where they're
gonna have to make him because he's gonna get paid
high numbers.

Speaker 4 (27:46):
Here, there's decisions.

Speaker 3 (27:49):
There are decisions to be made, and then when you
talk about Diggs's contract, you got to see the juice
worts to squeeze there as you're trying to figure this
thing out. So there their money becomes and Pickins Pickens
is up.

Speaker 6 (27:59):
I mean, Brandon Aubrey, it's gonna be the highest paid
kicker contract.

Speaker 8 (28:05):
But you know you're dismissive with the kicker right there.

Speaker 3 (28:07):
No no, no nouse to me. That's that's probably easy.
Francise got that.

Speaker 7 (28:12):
That is the easy one.

Speaker 3 (28:14):
We got you, Franceise tag on that one, gotchas.

Speaker 5 (28:18):
Unless you could work out to deal with him during
the year and use the tag.

Speaker 2 (28:22):
For you'd rather use the tag on something more valuable. Kicker.

Speaker 6 (28:25):
Nothing's more valuable with him, though he did just change
his agent to Todd France Prescott, so not that long ago.

Speaker 2 (28:31):
He's ben take him to the wish.

Speaker 5 (28:34):
Todd Francis record against his front office undisputed.

Speaker 4 (28:40):
Like Dolphins about first about Butt Wising, he's undefeated mill
so far.

Speaker 5 (28:45):
We're only doing the last show until training cap if
we keep talking like this, we might be doing the
last show.

Speaker 4 (28:51):
Look, these aren't things.

Speaker 3 (28:57):
Chris Bean, nobody not a little shot the snipers being there,
but some of these things, man, you know they as
an organization, they they were talking about it because they've
put it out here for us, and when you're in
a salary cap era and you're thinking about that, you
have to talk about it.

Speaker 5 (29:15):
They truly don't have a long term commitment to any
of these corners, as many as they seem to have.
And that's a position I don't think anybody here feels
certainty about in terms of it being what they need.

Speaker 3 (29:27):
As we get ready for training because mandatory mini campus
this week, then they're off for break than they in
late late July head to Oxnar, California, and we come back.
What's one player you're really going to be looking for
to see in training campus right now?

Speaker 4 (29:39):
It's the other ware. Olympics pads aren't popping yet, so
we'll see this later on. We'll do that. Nexte nick
ed Jackamnwei.

I cannot wait to get out to Oxnar get.

Speaker 3 (32:09):
To one of my favorite seafood restaurants out there, because
they make the best clam strips and they have the
best clam chat or so that's why I love and yes,
yeah on the bait.

Speaker 4 (32:20):
Yes.

Speaker 6 (32:22):
Harbor Toural Harbor when you see to fight the flies
on the deck. But other than that, it's great.

Speaker 4 (32:26):
When you see them bringing the truck in and they're
putting the fish in the seafog, you're like, oh, yes, yes,
one of the twenty five best seafood shocks voted in America.
All Right, Jack Taylor, the Hall of.

Speaker 3 (32:36):
Famer, where soon be Hall of Famer Nick Harris. By
the way, jaqu'es working on the book. One day, he'll
tell exactly what it is. But it's big time stuff,
I know because he's working on something here. So I
can't wait, can't wait, under coverings in the lab all
the time, working on the book here. All right, when
we get to training camp, one player, okay, one player
that you're going to keep your eye out on, that
you're looking forward to seeing it, I'll start Tyler got

(32:57):
from me as everybody's yeah, the left.

Speaker 4 (33:02):
Hand, those who aren't with Malzie Smith.

Speaker 2 (33:04):
Yeah, because.

Speaker 3 (33:08):
All of this other stuff we're talking about, if Dak
is getting creamed, it won't matter, it won't matter, and
I thought Jake Ferguson said a little something in there
about last year, I'd stay any we had to chip,
which meant I had to go help Tyler Smith.

Speaker 4 (33:22):
I could run a route, I mean, Tyler get that
could run.

Speaker 5 (33:25):
Around what without a touchdown for the first time of
my whole life at any level, because I was asked
to do different things. Yes, yes, we're giving up touchdowns
to protect our quarterback.

Speaker 4 (33:33):
Yeah and still didn't still got hurt. So anyway, that
was mine there and Nick, you and are we're thinking
alike right there.

Speaker 6 (33:39):
I'll want you all flip it, just to make it
a different Terrence Steel on the other side of the
offensive line, I have one and a half questions on
the offensive line going into this year, and one of
them is not the rookie. It's Tyler Guyden. That's the
full question. The half question is Terrence Steele. How much
will this new coaching staff benefit Terrence Steele Because we
understand that there are not necessarily disagreements, but differences is

(34:01):
in philosophy between what Terrence Steele was accustomed to doing
and then when the Mike Solari system came into place
here in Dallas. Now it's a completely different offensive system.
It's an offensive line focused offensive coordinator. They're bringing a
guy that Steel has already been commending as far as
his work goes. How does that help translate his game
and does that help benefit him and get him back

(34:21):
on track these last couple of years. You look at
the pressures numbers, you look at the sack numbers, not
the penalty numbers. Gattan holds that, but you look at
the other two and you see Steel at the top.
So can Steele have a rebound rebound year and get
back on the positive track?

Speaker 5 (34:35):
He played every snap, It played every one of like
six entire NFL.

Speaker 4 (34:40):
No, he played every snap he did.

Speaker 6 (34:41):
He did last year he didn't. I think it was
a year before where he miss missed like ten to three. Yeah, okay, yeah, that's.

Speaker 5 (34:47):
Crazy, and being on the field is exceptional.

Speaker 6 (34:50):
It is how coming off that torn a cl MCL
that he had and what was that twenty two? Uh,
that's the availability part. It's there now, it's the ability
part for sure.

Speaker 16 (34:59):
Well.

Speaker 5 (35:00):
Well, the first two names that came to mind when
you said before the break, we were going to identify
one player that we were going to watch most closely.

Speaker 4 (35:06):
The two guys can mind it for me.

Speaker 5 (35:08):
Were both first round picks Tyler Geydon and so I'll
say Moszi Smith, like, if they're going to stop the run,
he's got to hold off. You know, two late round
draft picks that are going to challenge him.

Speaker 4 (35:18):
For his job. Was the verbiage excited to see most
interested to see it, interested to.

Speaker 7 (35:23):
See Okay, okay, just make sure it wasn't excited.

Speaker 5 (35:25):
So he's like he's played a lot, but he hasn't
performed to their expectations. I think his jobs on the line,
his careers on the line, at least as a cowboy.
And I think Matt eberflu Is the new defensive coordinator,
his third defensive coordinator in three seasons. They haven't made
it easy on him by changing systems and coaches all
the time. But my understanding is Matt Eberflus had a
pretty high opinion of Mozzie Smith when they when he

(35:48):
was drafted.

Speaker 4 (35:48):
So let's see if you can make something.

Speaker 2 (35:50):
Out of him.

Speaker 3 (35:50):
Parcells said he learned from Tom Landry. By year three,
we got to see something.

Speaker 9 (35:55):
It's year three, yeah, and also you say you get
some somethinge year.

Speaker 3 (36:01):
You know, so far he's left you wanting you get
Philadelphia right out of the gate and Ta Kwon.

Speaker 4 (36:06):
Barkley, here you go. But and a running quarterback, as
much as.

Speaker 3 (36:10):
We speak about on your left tackle, he's got to
get it going. We also know the way to beat
the Cowboys the LA past few seasons is run the
ball on him.

Speaker 4 (36:20):
So, Mazie Smith, he's got to show you something. And
you're right. I think his career is on the line.
I expect him to be on this team.

Speaker 3 (36:27):
But if he performs in year three with the combination
of what he performed in year one and two, I
don't expect him to be here year four.

Speaker 4 (36:35):
That's just my take.

Speaker 9 (36:38):
I'm torn between two guys, so name both. First one
is Jake Ferguson. Can he get back to being a
stretch of field, big play tight end, a guy who's
a difference maker. Your quarterback really enjoys tight ends, as
evidenced by Dalton Schiltz's numbers before he left. And so
I think if Jake Ferguson can be a factor even
with the guys on the outside, you should he should

(37:00):
be able to have a nice year. They need him
to have a nice year because I think they run
a game is shady, so you need to tight end
to help you move the change there. And then the
other one is Deryn Bland. Is he I've seen all
world of Arn Bland and then I've seen he's iight,
Deryn Bland.

Speaker 2 (37:16):
And so who is he?

Speaker 9 (37:17):
And to me that's the question, you know, are you
an upper restaurant corner or are you you know, just
pretty good? And I think this year, you know, we'll
get we'll get a real opportunity to see what.

Speaker 4 (37:29):
About Vonte Williams.

Speaker 5 (37:31):
I think one of those running backs has to do
something like they can't go into next this season like
they did last year at running back.

Speaker 4 (37:39):
Look, I think this this running back room has been last.

Speaker 9 (37:43):
Year skinniest fake Yeah too, shit shit, But I am
I'm a Williams fan.

Speaker 4 (37:53):
I like Williams, And I know you say, hey, well,
if he was that good or with the why do
Sean Payton let him go?

Speaker 13 (38:00):
On?

Speaker 5 (38:00):
Peyton let him go and drafted a running back in
Harvey to start and they signed JK.

Speaker 4 (38:04):
Dobbins yesterday.

Speaker 12 (38:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (38:06):
I think this is more a case of they think
the offensive line, if they'll commit to running the ball,
the offensive line they think will create holes that make
the runner better.

Speaker 4 (38:19):
Clearly they're throwing bodies at this thing.

Speaker 5 (38:21):
I mean, he led Denver rushing two years in a row.
But he wasn't the same player after blowing out his
knee as he was before.

Speaker 4 (38:26):
No, he was not the player that he wasn't North Carolina.

Speaker 5 (38:28):
But and he's exceptional on third down as a receiver blockings,
but is he going to take Jayden Blue snaps as
a third down back?

Speaker 3 (38:39):
This is this is going to be that beauty of
camp and seeing exactly what what happens and how they
go through things.

Speaker 9 (38:44):
But no, they also got to they also have to
stay in games to play the way that Schattonhimer says
they want to play, because if you if you're behind,
you can't do run the ball thing. Play action doesn't
mean as much. And so for them it's can you
stay in the games long enough to play this style
that you want to.

Speaker 3 (39:02):
I think Williams could be as effective as Rico daddle was.
And you look at the numbers toward the end of
the year, you know, Rico Daddell had.

Speaker 4 (39:12):
A good year. They scored six rushing touchdowns. I think
that can improve very much. So and and you better, Oh,
I mean.

Speaker 3 (39:21):
I thought Jerry did have a very good point where
he talked about the end of the offensive line was
also an issue of what happened last year, and clearly
they'll be better if.

Speaker 5 (39:32):
They collected a lot of assets.

Speaker 6 (39:34):
Problem their biggest issue. I think with Ricos. Rico is
a good back. Rico is a good back. He wasn't
a finisher. They didn't have a finisher. I don't feel
like they have a finisher on this roster right now.
Fisher being getting to the goal line, getting those first downs,
getting those hard earned yards.

Speaker 7 (39:48):
They didn't have that.

Speaker 4 (39:48):
He was not a dynamic player. He didn't have any
long run.

Speaker 5 (39:52):
So I mean through week nine, Dak, your thirty one
year old quarterback, had your longest run to Jack though.
Now you need better than that, any of these guys
better than just a guy.

Speaker 2 (40:01):
Was Nick going to be better?

Speaker 4 (40:03):
I don't know it coming off.

Speaker 7 (40:04):
And because Clarence wants him to know, See Nick took it.

Speaker 2 (40:09):
There, I wasn't taking it there first.

Speaker 4 (40:12):
Will be back here in a moment.

Speaker 5 (40:14):
It'll be in the next tour group that walks by.

Speaker 2 (40:18):
Yea, you can't.

Speaker 9 (40:21):
You can't solve all your problems in one year. So
they threw all these assets, all this coach and all
this stuff at the offensive line, and then next year
you'll go get a runner.

Speaker 6 (40:30):
While I one hundred percent agree with it. When I
first got into this building, the two biggest issues were
we can't run the ball, we can't stop the run.
Jerry Jones said that every off season and it's still
the same. It's still those still the two those are
still the two biggest questions we have going in training camp.

Speaker 7 (40:46):
Can they run the ball? Can they stop the run?

Speaker 9 (40:48):
And I feel better about the ability to run the
ball and stop the run.

Speaker 7 (40:51):
I agree, I agree, still a concern, oh, definitely concern.

Speaker 4 (40:55):
That's why I did the preseason little thing here.

Speaker 3 (40:58):
I got seven wins in the possible because I still
feel just there they're probably two years away from being
able to get all this stuff they need to get
fixed fixed.

Speaker 9 (41:06):
And then what then then you got a quarterback issue
at two years from.

Speaker 4 (41:09):
Now between who.

Speaker 2 (41:13):
Well, I mean, you know, then then you all the
talk will be.

Speaker 4 (41:15):
But I got Joe Joe Mixon.

Speaker 2 (41:17):
I forgot about him, Joe Milton.

Speaker 4 (41:20):
