and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. Cowboys This is Media Match,
a roundtable of Cowboys insiders trumping wisdom and offering sizzling
takes on the current state of your Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Now, your host Newie.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
Scrugs media mash time on a day right here from
the Star in Frisco. I am new he scrugs, along
with Nick Harris of the folk Worth Star Telegram, Guy
je Jacques Taylor, former Cowboy Beat Rider and the author
well Packer's Week.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Yeah, that's it, Michael says, it's gonna be painful.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
I might like, mister You're too young for this, Nick,
like mister t exactly exactly. Nick's too young to remember it.
In Rocky three, what's your prediction.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
Club, I'm a Rocky officionado. Okay, it's about the only
sports movie I've ever seen.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Yeah, so Rocky three, you up on that one?
Speaker 4 (01:05):
For is my favorite? I mean, obviously for is the best?
Speaker 3 (01:08):
It for is the best Man three? Hey woman, Hey woman.
The man Man is trying to fight Rocky, and Rocky
saying no, he decides to go right out. His wife
gets more disrespectful than that. It doesn't it. It mix like,
hey man, you ain't ready to fight this dude? What
do you mean? Then Mickey tells him the truth. Hey man,
(01:28):
I've been caring you man, that whole eye the tiger
thing had ten fights. You ain't that good?
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Reality? To check Man, it was, it was okay.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
So Michah Micah is ready to deliver some pain to
Dak Prescott here. What level of angry you expecting to
be playing.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
With Michael Parsons. Yes, he's gonna have some emotions and
we've we've talked to Michael Parsons. We know who Michael
Parsons is. We understand when emotions get involved. Uh, he
typically lets that fuel him rather than you know, funnel him,
if that makes sense.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
He He's gonna be coming at Terrence Steele and Tyler
Gutytan on Sunday. There's there's no doubt about it.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
So you say that, I'm to me, I'm thinking to
myself knowing that, Hey, there's brock hoffin TJ. Bass here.
Did you go to the DC and say, hey man,
I've done this before. You know what I could do?
And let me let me shoot through this gap and
try to get to Dak Prescott, especially since Booker is
not going to be there.
Speaker 4 (02:24):
I will say one note, Brian Schoenheimer did not anoint TJ.
Bass as the starting right guard today. He said it's
gonna be a competition this week. Trevor Keegan, the guy
that claimed off the Eagles waiver wire at the beginning
of the season, He's gonna be in that mix as
well as Hakeema Dynegy. So it wouldn't surprise me one
of those two guys maybe make the pushing sales.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
Gonna ask, you know, I'm always curious, was that a
real It's gonna be a competition or I just want
to make sure he's at his best week of practice.
So I'm gonna tell him it's going to be a competition.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
I think so because when you talk about experience with
Keegan and I dentity, I think it overwhelms what Bass
has had, even though he's had five games of starting
experience in two years. Those guys are gonna give him
a push, no doubt.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
So we need the question to be asked Jerry on Friday.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Jerry tell us.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
Exactly, We're gonna have three families listening.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
Family lose family, Lossie's family. You know last year it
was Cook. You knowd Alvin Cook was listened to the
show to find out if he was gonna play. So
that that's that's it, man. I needed to go ahead
and hit hit the boys up on the casey and
masked K and C masterpiece to go ahead and ask
the question.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Let me ask you this because Nick, you're too young
for this. Don't you respectful? Too young? Don't you'll do this?
Speaker 3 (03:38):
Don't you?
Speaker 2 (03:39):
Don't you enjoy the moments when and this happened the
first when you used to not know you were inactive.
So you went to the locker room on game day
and there was no jersey in there for you. The
shirt that happened the first round, cowboy pro shot. Sure
can't imagine that. Man, Oh you think you're playing and
he walked in the locker room is a T shirt?
Speaker 4 (04:01):
Wake up the morning of great vibes. You know you're
in your car going to the game, great music you're
walking in. I'm about to dominate today.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
Heat light at the team breakfast. I gotta be light
on my feet right right.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
Just have little honey melons, just a little melons right there.
Maybe a little protein shape get there and all of
a sudden they can give you the Salute to the
Service shirt.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
But he's an ebo. Was so mad I thought he
was gonna kill myself.
Speaker 4 (04:22):
And you don't want the funniest note of all time.
Michael Parsons is on the injury report today limited with
a back injury.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
Now they just now they declining. He probably said, hey, coach,
can you put his own injury report please?
Speaker 3 (04:37):
I mean that's dirty.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Come on, man, I like it'll be fun.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
I like Michael too, and and he will so so
I'm wondering, is it will it be Luca level?
Speaker 5 (04:50):
Man?
Speaker 3 (04:53):
You know, how how will he come back?
Speaker 2 (04:54):
I think he's a no, because I don't think so,
because he's mad at this point. It mad at Jerry.
He ain't mad at his teammates. And see, really I'm
having fun. But when he said I thought would be painful,
I kind of took it like it might be painful
for me to have to do my boy like this,
Like when I used to beat Clais on the story
it was like painful.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
I still enjoyed it though, that kind of thing. Yeah,
you know these are these are always interesting. It's it's
you know, Ray Allen going back to Boston. You know,
remember the Miami heat, you know, and the dudes all
swole at you. So, you know whatever, you know.
Speaker 5 (05:29):
He got it.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
But Michael did ask to be traded. That's a different thing.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
So so Michael went to a place where he wanted
to go.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
You know, you wanted your money. You got what you wanted.
So and I've told to people like, well, like why, yes, correct,
you had an ultimately you with with all due respect,
you had a number. You wanted the number. Jerry wasn't
going to meet the number, so you said, trade me.
He traded you. He gave you your money. You're on
(05:56):
a really good.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Football team, championship caliber team.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
This is a t T I picked to go to
Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
You really better off than you were in Dallas, if
you ask me, right, So, he don't really had no
reason to be mad other than to say, you try
to act like I wasn't a big deal.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
Let me show you I can be a big deal,
right right, I mean that's my feeling when I look
at this for MIKEA. Parsons. Then on the other side's
Kenny Clark, who was a part of the trade. And
Kenny spoke with us today and he says he's got
no hard feelings. It's for him, he really, He's saying
it's just business. Nick. I believe him when he talks
like that. Yeah, I do too.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
And he said he's gonna have a box at the
game on Sunday. I wonder if Jerry offered it to him.
That's another question they need to ask on K and C.
On Friday, he said that box is gonna be full,
and I tried to get it out of him a
little bit. I was like, you know, is this an
opportunity for closure for you? Because we talked about that
Luca return game that was certainly closure for him. It
felt like the end of that era when he walked
out of that stadium with the fifty points that night
or whatever it was. And Kitty's like, I'm not getting
(06:53):
lost in all that. This is just another game for me.
I know these guys a little bit better, but that's
that's all it is.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
So we were talking on the players. Biden Church told
me that he looked one time into a box or
for Thanksgiving.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
He said the boxes cost thirty thousand. We looked into
Bury Church after he got the dealer before he no.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
No, he looked into it for this year. He looked
into a box.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
He's been retired a long time bridge.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
Right, right, so he said thirty And I said, well,
here's my thing. Does that include the food because there's
different right, That's that's what I said. So so I'd
love to know Kenny's got a box as you said, Nick,
is Jerry saying thank you? He's a rite off? Or
you know, or here's the thing too, can you do that?
(07:37):
I mean as under the Salard company as a note,
can you do that?
Speaker 2 (07:39):
Or so you know, so where is that? Or you know?
Speaker 3 (07:44):
I mean look, Whitten and Romo used to share a box.
So but you know, purchase it at whatever price tag.
But anyway, speaking of.
Speaker 4 (07:51):
A box, so Michael Parsons bought a box for the
season at AT and T Stadium and couldn't get the
money back on it, couldn't get a refund, and he
offered it to Kenny Clark. Kenny had already gotten one,
and so he said, the suitet' is gonna be packed
out with a lot of Micah people on Sunday at
AT and T Stadium. So there is a suite at
at and T Stadium for all. What is it eight
home games this year that is going to be Parsons owned.
(08:12):
I wonder if his name is on the outside of
you know, how to etch.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
The names on it.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
He shouldn't have been problems selling it. Yeah, unless they
could tinue to come down time is downward spiral.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
December will be challenging.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
Opposing team fans who got some paper might want to.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
But so you got two December home games, the fourteenth
against Minnesota, which is scheduled to be on Sunday night
football scheduled scheduled won't be then it's the twenty first
against the Chargers a few days before Christmas.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
Yeah, you know that's still a good Christmas gift.
Speaker 6 (08:47):
Man.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
You and I have been here long enough.
Speaker 5 (08:50):
To night.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
My daughter was hitting me up for preseason tickets. Somebody
want to go.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
We've been around here long enough. And it's not just
here but here, especially because people they're not they're not
making that drive to go see bad bad team. But
in most cities once December rolls around and you're not
if you're not good, hey, hey, shot, I've got these
seats and you get them a discount because now just
because it's a December twenty first game. Yeah, the ability
(09:20):
to possibly get some cash for some Christmas gifts. Take
get motivated.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
How much you want for them? Five hundred dollars tickets
bro three fifty four.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
I mean that that's that's where you get to and
it's and it I mean like right now, Rangers are
playing to night. Well you know the teams eliminated from
playoff contentions.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Hey, yeah, I'm disappointing it. They was verry, there was
the gutty Little Rangers, the gritty little Rangers, and then
they just turned and quit at one failed swoop.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
Man, look how many people injured though?
Speaker 2 (09:48):
Man, this stuff stuff.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
But they won six to seven with all those guys
injured too, and then reality hit it who they were
the reality hit it and they just let it go.
And so you know, and now it's just it's that's
a sad way to see Bruce Bochi retired and go
out the game.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
But she already said that everybody seems to everybody seems
to think that it's trending that way. Uh.
Speaker 4 (10:09):
Off camera, I will tell you I know he's breaking
some news on the media.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
Mask camera. I'll tell you what I know. I'll tell
you what I know. And there's usually one person and
who can help make these decisions. That's who I heard
is like, hey, hey, so Kenny Clark's saying it's just business.
He doesn't care, he's here to play football. He's saying
the right thing. I talked to Jack Sanborn, who was
(10:32):
a little bit spicy because I was I said spicy
in a bad way. But you know, I was asked
about that deep I mean, get ninety five points. So
what's changing when he's happened.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
No, he didn't give you some attitude.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
He didn't give me attitude. But I said, there's some
desperation week three and no need to be desperate.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
Maybe he ain't watched all twenty two yet.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
Like bro, if Caleb Williams is lighting you up.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
And he first time in his career he hasn't in
sacked NFC Player of the Week, Caleb, Caleb william light
you up, and Russell Wilson throws for four point fifty
and we're thinking that he's cooking again and now he's binched.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
I would say there's some desperations should be desperations should
be happening because Jordan Love is better than both of
those quarterbacks at this point in his career and you're
about to face a really good running back. They helped
sakuon Barkley and check in Philadelphia.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
Def didn't give him the big please. That mean they
gave it to one. But it wasn't like we've seen the.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
Last two weeks. But this kid, Josh Jakes asked Kenny
Clark about that too. This is a really good running
back and they got to fix this. Man. I mean
to coach your boy Rich Dowry Young for that one.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
Fix this, fix this Rich.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
Yes, the origin of a man involved. It's so beautiful.
It's a beautiful story how Jaques was involved in that.
Speaker 4 (11:57):
That's why we can't sweet in the locker room now.
So thanks, But you know it really wasn't me.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
It was really good. It was really your boy friend,
messide Robert Clinko, Yes, it really was. It wasn't me.
I had my own individual discourse with eighty eight. I
mean it was heated. Now sounded like it, and that's
when I had to get on Devin Street. Sorry, behind
(12:24):
nobody over to you, man, He's not over because I
was an all pro receiver. I mean I was all
pro writer. He a backup. You can't talk to me
like that.
Speaker 3 (12:34):
I mean Nick.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Even as a youngster in the game. You can take
getting cussed out by Dak or somebody who starts us.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
Been to a pro Bowl.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
I ain't cussed out by no practice squad player. Nah,
I'm not having it though. See it came out equivalent.
Speaker 3 (12:53):
Of getting one. You really taking that from you?
Speaker 4 (12:57):
You no disrespect rifle?
Speaker 5 (13:00):
No.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Oh, Cliff Taylor came out. Man, Oh Cliff you you
ready to live better?
Speaker 5 (13:05):
Baby?
Speaker 2 (13:05):
Don't slip wood taste food you because that's why.
Speaker 4 (13:09):
Said Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Devon Street had no chance none.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
When players in media get petty, it can be fun
around here. It can't get fun. When Tara Lewans refused
to talk to me and Edward and answer our questions,
I mean it can't get fun. It can get fun
to the point. Oh finally you don't want to answer.
I'm just keep on asking questions, so you keep saying
no comment. Tell you haven't reached that Nick. Everybody likes you,
you know, everybody likes you. But at some point it's
(13:36):
good to the day. Yeah, at some point in time,
it's going to get to that point where you're gonna
have one one that you know and it'll stay with you.
They'll be long gone, They'll be long gone. Oh right,
see what happened? Take it down to Devon Street Lane.
This dude, you you don't even remember what number he
wore here. I don't remember fifteen, uh fifteen, but but
(14:00):
it was it was set stays in you. People bring
up the player to meet the player. The player. Ary
cut that Dall.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
Let's cut from the Coats, cut from the Jets ten
career receptions.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
Mm hmm, Chris be we see Chris Jacques still still not.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
Bad for a fish round bust wish he couldn't carry
Billy David's job.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
Media pettiness. Media pettiness is real. When you come to
Cowboys man, media bash.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
It stopping like cinema texts, what's up? Homes?
Speaker 3 (14:42):
So I'm just waiting on you, young Nick, when you
get yours. We have ours, we have ours. At some
point time, there would be one player on this beat
that you say, I can't stand forever. And when he's
gone God, and you'll take lee enjoy and just saying, hey,
he's really don't do that.
Speaker 4 (15:01):
Young Tommy Yarrish had his first uh uh and it
was actually an o t as uh. You know, he
was just tweeting out practice notes, and he had said that,
you know, one specific receiver beat one specific dB on
the route. That was it, and that specific DV quote
tweeted it and said, Tommy, let's get this right. He
didn't beat me. I'm just saying that player is no
longer here, and Tommy had a nice little party about it.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
M m see, that's kind of tame.
Speaker 4 (15:26):
It is, definitely, that's definitely. It's more the public display,
you know, because that's what the disrespect. Because he knew Tommy.
He could have walked up to Tommy the next day,
but like, hey.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
Yeah, but he didn't. You mean, more like when Roy
Williams and Ride put me as one that posted in
the locker room. They called me all kind of vile name.
You're talking about that? That warn't it the whole story
in the Dallas Observer.
Speaker 4 (15:54):
I'm sure sure.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
I mean, look, look, I said the pattiness to get real.
I remember when when I'm cool with all them cats
now so so John was right over the morning news
of the time, and I remember back in the day
when gentlemen Richie Witt wrote for the Star Telegram and
Charles Haley did not like him and Charles Haley referred
to him as Richie, not Richie wit but with.
Speaker 6 (16:16):
The s.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
You know, charging to look Richie. It was just so
it was just so petty but so funny, you know,
it's just so so yeah, man, you you when you
cover the Cowboys, man, at some point in time, there's
going to be a player that you don't necessarily care for.
This player doesn't care for you as you're doing your job.
(16:39):
But it is definitely gonna be fun to just kind
of reminisce a little bit.
Speaker 4 (16:42):
I remember this conversation when that happens, Fellaws.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
Thank you, thank you. It's gonna be one all of
us have, you know, go ask Clarence and Todd, ask
any of the people that there's somebody somebody on the list.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
With Calvin Jay Rightliff, Yeah, I remember that one.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
I remember that one. But Calvin with Waye Phillis was
even better.
Speaker 3 (17:08):
That was you know what man, I got I won't
lie man. That was wrong even I can't remember the
line that was cold man. That was Rob Parker esque,
like Rob Parker messing with Rod Marinelli Detroit like it
was at that like like.
Speaker 2 (17:23):
You know, you probably he got suspended for a week
for that.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
News.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
Yeah, that was one like I don't know if you
need I can't remember the line though. It was something
about I could coach him to the playoffs that you
can't something in that vein. It wasn't that, but something
in that vein. But that's because you know, we all
get tested and frustrating hit you.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
You want to hit back, and sometimes you don't need
to go ahead and get that lick. Sometimes you don't need.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
To get that lick, but it feel good at the
moment and when you hurt the liquors and then you
go like I had one of those with Childs Hayley
back in the day. Really, yeah, it was I tell
the story off and it was me and this back
when you could really be a reporter, meaning it was
about six o'clock. Only people in the locker room is
me and Nate, right, and he's breaking down some blocking
(18:14):
techniques to me, and Haley walks in and says something
smart and he's at the opposite end of the locker
room and me feeling because you know, this was thirty
years ago, so I'm twenty eight years old, and I
said something back, some real fly and he looked at
me and they was like, Bro, you need to go now,
and I said, huh, and I looked over Haley. I
(18:35):
said I I'm out because Haley started walking over and
it was the same thing, like I didn't need to
say the fly thing that I said. I took it
too far.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
And you have to everything too is you have to
realize at times who you're dealing with. Yes, kyp know
your personality, and Charles was not one because it could
go a lot of ways, and most of those ways
he's weren't back back then, back then, shack now then,
even now he's teamed now brow back then not me
(19:07):
and Child's text. Yeah back then was wow. I mean
I remember being there with Michael. I was there with
Michael through the trash can Jimmy, Jimmy got let go?
So back then those brom dudes wash. It was different, bro, different,
But it was.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
The best time ever to be a reporter. Yeah, I ever,
I do because you could be a reporter. You can
hang around if I want to wait, if I say, hey, Troy,
can I get you after you watched Tate? Yeah, I
ain't gonna be done until seven thirty.
Speaker 3 (19:36):
Cool yep.
Speaker 2 (19:37):
I stayed there till seventh thirty.
Speaker 3 (19:38):
You could walk into an assistant coaches off.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
Yeah, it's crazy. David Moore was telling me a story
at owner's meetings this past year about when Landry got fired. Yes,
walked into his office and he was packing boxes and
they got him. And I was like, we tried to
do that. When McCarthy got out of here, we'd be
locked up under the basement of Area fifty one.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
I used to I used to.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
Say, it was just a matter of how hard you
wanted to work, right, how much diff it was different, man,
But you know the NFL's it is a lot different.
But fun storright. Let's got our first break in right

(22:40):
On New Scruggs, you've got Jean Jacques Taylor here and
we've got Nick Harris. All right, Cowboys getting ready face
the Green Bay Packers is on the NBC Sunday Night Football.
The Packers defense right now number one points, giving up
defensively fourteen point seven. Been a minute since they've given
up twenty.
Speaker 4 (22:57):
Who's twenty seventh in the category.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
I don't know that's cowboy's cowboy? Yeah boy, they've given
up ninety five points. And like I said, you've given
it up to Russell Wilson Caleb Williams, and then you
know Hurts got you. But you weren't no surprise against Hurts.
But if you got two guys that I mean, I'll
go out on a limb and say I don't think
(23:20):
they'll be at the Pro Bowl as starters between Russell
Wilson and Caleb, and Russell just lost a job to Jackson. Dark.
This is not good. They've got to fix some stuff.
And Shotty didn't want to give away the game plan
today at the press conference, but he says they're working
on some things. What could it be.
Speaker 4 (23:39):
Unless it's personnel changes, man, I do not care. It's
that they got to make a change with these safeties.
These safeties continue to be the core of the issue
when it comes to communication, when it comes to these
busted coverages. Unless it's one year Thomas or markis Bell
getting a shot at it, I'm not seeing where the
major change could actually be made unless it's just a
complete flip to play more man coverage. Unless it's just that,
(24:00):
But that makes no sense because you prepped a completely
different thing.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
Maybe since maybe the change is coming from internal meaning
I just played better. I spent this week figuring out. Yeah,
neither one of else either, body.
Speaker 4 (24:11):
That Jackson, that's what they said last week.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
You know, maybe so Jack Sandboard said that today, and
Kenny Clark said that in the locker room after the game,
and I said, but came home with respect. You guys
said that last week.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
Maybe it takes more than one week, Like for real,
maybe it takes more than one week.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (24:28):
Brian Scheinhammer did say it's a one week fixed last week.
That's That's where That's where I continue to be, like, Okay,
then what are we looking at here?
Speaker 2 (24:34):
Well, sometimes and I'm just I'm playing the devil's advocate here.
Sometimes you can say, hey, we got a surgery, we're
gonna go in and do this and you get in
there and he's like, oh, it took eight hours instead
of four because we found all this other stuff. We
didn't know what was wrong with you. And so maybe
as they're dissecting it, because they clearly they got problems.
Speaker 3 (24:54):
And so going back to what Nick said here, you
just look at Donovan Wilson. I'm not trying to pick
on Donald Wilson, but the way they're playing in right now,
this isn't the best version of Donovan Wilson.
Speaker 2 (25:03):
That ain't even his fault.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
To me, that's not the best version of Donovan Wilson.
So when you're talking about changes here, my first thought
would be, if you're going to keep running this thing,
then you need to put someone else out there besides
Donovan to run that. That's my first thought.
Speaker 4 (25:16):
Yeah, I think it starts there, and then I think
you could also look at the situation at corner. You know,
Deron Blantz coming back, Is it as easy as placing
him in for Ready Stewart. I think you need to
look at other options too. I think you could look
at replacing him with Trayvon Diggs. Let Trayvon Diggs get
back to full speed. Let him actually get a ramp up,
you know it was. They worked all training camp to
get him ready for week one, and man, it was
(25:36):
great that he did. Blah blah blah. He gets out
there twenty snaps. Good, that's a good little workload. And
then he has to get thrown into week two in
week three and you see that when he goes to
jam Roman Dunze and then he slips. That's that's not
an elite corner playing on the field at that point.
That's a guy still getting his feed under him. Let
him get his feed on him for a couple weeks,
not a permanent fix, but throw blade on the outside
and keep ready Stewart in the mix. He's been your
(25:57):
best defensive back over the last couple of weeks.
Speaker 3 (26:00):
Man, it's tough because so many people wanted to jump
on Matt Eberfluss, the defensive coordinator. I understand that. But
at the same time, man, this whole thing was challenged
from the time you traded Michael Parsons because Michael makes
up for a whole lot of other things. And and
and the guys that they said, hey, you go do it,
they haven't done it. DB's have issues. The linebacking cores
(26:24):
is you know, it's it's just trouble right now. Man,
they got it. I don't know. I don't know how
they fix it this week. I would not pick them
to win this game here on a Wednesday.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
I wouldn't pick them on Thursday Friday either.
Speaker 3 (26:38):
Yeah, yeah, because I thought last week was this was
the win you needed, like you have to beat them.
As you start to look at the schedule, I never
had this circle down as a as a W for
the Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
No so, and then so here's the deal. If you
didn't have a circle down as a W, you can't
go crazy if they drop it on Sunday because you
never had it circled as a W.
Speaker 5 (26:58):
How do you look?
Speaker 2 (26:59):
There?
Speaker 3 (26:59):
Was I by that?
Speaker 2 (27:00):
Out by that because now to me, I'm passed. I'm
almost passed. I'm past this l I'm like, yeah, enough
to be the Jets because that's like the game that
matters Jets and Carolina because you can still be three
and three after six and you go, you know, I
wish we had been four and two, but three and
three is not so bad the Bears.
Speaker 3 (27:19):
I mean, I would think we'd all say when we
started counting w's At the beginning of the year, the
Bears was one when you counted a W right, okay,
and so that's the goal and then you barely escape
the Giants, you know. So now you look at this
Packers game, you're like then the Jets in Carolina. These
are road games. You can't just sit around here and
just say, oh yeah, throw w's up. This is not
Everything is questionable right now, everything special.
Speaker 2 (27:39):
And the issue is we've basically seen what thirteen quarters
of defense they played three games, that's thirteen quarters because
they had overtime. They've only played good in like two
quarters of defense second half against Philly.
Speaker 3 (27:53):
Yeah, yep, that's it.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
So you know clearly they had issues and the offense
has to help these Okay, look, let's but can we
help you if we're down twenty one? Nothing like they
couldn't help him in the second half yesterday once once
they punted and it's it's okay to punt, So I mean,
I go score a touchdown any time it's okay to punt,
and then you go ten what was it, nineteen play
seventy six yards ten minutes. We can't help you no more.
Speaker 3 (28:19):
It's problem. So they've got they've got they've got some
issues here, and I'm just looking at you know, when
Shoddy says, Okay, we're gonna do something, exactly, what can
you really do? Because the new cavalry coming over the
hill and Jerry can talk about enforcements are on the way.
So Bland okay, Bland being back, but we all know
this back to what you know. Being on the field
(28:42):
is one thing. Being on the field being effective and
being the dron blade your hope you're gonna that's that's
a whole different deal. Yeah, we don't know. And then
Savonne Ravel said, Rookie, that's tough man.
Speaker 4 (28:56):
It's toy that hasn't played football in a year.
Speaker 3 (28:58):
Yeah, that's tough. So my first thought, I'm with you, Nick,
can you start at the safety position and this And
I hope that Donovan doesn't take it personal to because
it's not him. This is just not putting a guy
in the right spots. I'm with Roy Williams is here.
After a while, you know, like, hey, well they had
Roy playing that you're not playing where you need to
be playing. Roy was not a cover so he was
a box guy. Donovan is a bike. He's a guy
(29:19):
you want playing clothes under Dan Quinn's scheme, and even
with Zimmer you saw the flashes. But right now, but
this scheme here has a challenge, man, it is It
is a true challenge. So let's get our second final
break in here. Something that was brought up from Jeff
Coleb to Jerry Jones after the game. That's getting some
(29:39):
traction and I'm just kind of shaking my head like, really,
we're gonna do that. Let's do it next right here

So after the Bears loss, Jerry Jones came out and
met the media. Jeff Colba Fox four asked Jerry, would
you be open to moving one of your first round
picks to get a player to help the team this season?
And I took it from Jerry's answer, all right, asking
(32:35):
Jerry right after a game when emotions are high with
not hey, would you do something? And Jerry said yes,
we'll be open. And I took it in terms of
Jerry's somebody, hey, whin the you know the line, we're
in the acquisition business three and six five day gear
if we make team better that that time, a lot
of people are running with it. Jack. I took it
as simply, you're not one player way, and they're not
(32:58):
going to do it because the current see the pick
is not now, the currency of the pick will really
become draft time.
Speaker 4 (33:03):
That's I'll tell him that.
Speaker 2 (33:04):
I was going to say a fourst round currency of
the trade was not a week before the season. The
currency of the trade was many many months.
Speaker 3 (33:12):
I mean moving it now just armed with two picks
from Green Bay, That's what I'm talking about it.
Speaker 2 (33:17):
Yeah, No, I mean I don't there's nobody. I don't
see who you could what impact player. I don't see
what impact player you could acquire because that team would
need that impact player. Uh and I'm not trading the
first round pick for thirty one year old trade Hendrickson.
Speaker 5 (33:34):
No.
Speaker 4 (33:35):
So yeah, this team is not one player away regardless.
So packers those picks or use those picks over the
course of the next couple of years and call it
that you got four really good talents coming in the
next two years, you would hope.
Speaker 3 (33:45):
So, yeah, that's how I see it. And I also
referenced the Amari Cooper trade when they were three and
five football team and it looked like Jason Garrett might
might lose the team. They made the pick for Cooper.
He came in here, he was the spark that was
needed and they ended up making the playoffs. There's not
a player that's going to help them. And oh, by
the way, something that people aren't talking about it up.
(34:06):
If you want to make a deal right now and
you're bringing in some type of impact player, what's the
cost that comes with it. Because these players either are
going to want to come here and get a contract
or they're bringing in a heavy contract that you're going
to have to go ahead and work with. And that's
that can be another issue here, which is one reason
(34:26):
why Michael Parson isn't here. Michael Parsons wanted and deserved
a mega contract. And you've got a quarterback making sixty million,
you got a wide receiver making thirty four million dollars.
You know they could not afford a guy making forty
five for seve million dollars is a pass us for
they chose not to. I don't think you know what.
I don't.
Speaker 2 (34:44):
Other teams figure out how to get their best players signed,
and they have more best players Philadelphia, So you can
do whatever you want to. You can pay a credit card.
Speaker 3 (34:51):
And but here's the thing, Philly's not paying. The numbers
of Cowboys are I mean and okay, and that they're
in life, they're lies.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (34:58):
That's where you can go to the cow Boys and say, hey,
here's a problem. Should you have gotten Dak Prescott at
a different number? When when Hurts got paid? Should you
have gotten him at that number? When when Jackson got paid?
You know, that was the time getting Lamb done earlier,
when when doug on Michael was talking about I'll take lesson. Hey,
hey man, here's thirty taken run of the bank. That
(35:18):
there's the question. But by the time it got to
the prices you had to pay, that was a lot
to take three guys potentially to earn that kind of money.
Speaker 2 (35:29):
Yeah, I didn't.
Speaker 3 (35:30):
I didn't. Fans don't want to hear it. But I
don't know how they were gonna make that work. And
when Jerry said yesterday on the fan, I had a number,
he knew what the number was. He ain't wanted I
can buy that. From the standpoint, it was expensive. And
in talking to a former former staffer here, he said, yeah,
(35:51):
it really was. He said, hey man, it was a
ridiculous thing to try to think that you could pay
those three guys and go build a football team around.
It's like you really really couldn't that. They put themselves
in a very tough position.
Speaker 4 (36:01):
So they got value out of it while they could
mm hmm.
Speaker 2 (36:05):
See they put them You see just what you just said.
They put themselves in a very difficult position. Then they
blamed Michaeh. You see what I'm doing. You see what
I'm saying. So Jacques, that's what they I mean, that's
kind of stuff you get at the crib man. Then
you end up divorced.
Speaker 3 (36:21):
I worked, I worked in Los Angeles. Work not right. So,
if you're writing the story the the Jacques Taylor Netflix special,
aren't you the hero? If you're if you're a cop,
aren't you the hero in your story? You're not gonna
come out here tell a story of Jacques was an
awful man, the Devil's child.
Speaker 2 (36:41):
No, your hero that flicks special.
Speaker 3 (36:43):
We saw, Okay, you're the hero, Bob Craft special.
Speaker 5 (36:47):
The hero.
Speaker 3 (36:48):
I was just trying to keep it together. Bill and
John I did what they could until it broke. Get
back saying the hero and they're brother, Nah, stop it, Bob.
So yeah, Jerry's telling you that story. But come on,
what we expect to do you isn't isn't anybody? I mean,
tell me the guy that writes the story that says
(37:09):
on the building, I'm the bad guy. Even Nico Harrison
is hey man were trying and trade for defense. I mean,
even Nico. Nico keeps standing up there, he's prescotfence, and
harrisoner for the mask, keeps trying to tell the story. Man,
nobody's gonna come out and say, man, I'm I'm right,
I was wrong.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
Right, They ain't doing it.
Speaker 3 (37:29):
Joe Shane Giants. You heard Joe come out and say, yeah, man,
I'm I messed that one up.
Speaker 2 (37:35):
No, no, but I'm trying to figure out why my
chum seems to be playing in and he wasn't worth
Two dead flies pushed together in uh in New York
with day Ball, which means I don't even know if
I could trust you with Jack the Darton now dug yeah, man, yeah,
if I got to fire right now? Who they ball?
Speaker 3 (37:58):
No, no, no, I'm not firing him. If I'm mayor,
I'm firing Joe Shane. That's the guy I want. If
I'm the if I ain't Giants fan, I'm not mad
at the coach as much as I'm mad at the
general manager. And how much better is day Ball if
he's got Saquon Barkley. McKillen Moore got an NFL head
(38:20):
coaching job off Saquon Barkley. Saquon Barkley, I hear making
people money, saving jobs, getting people promoted. You had him
in your building and the owner told you, don't let
this dude go to Philly. Oh no, we're good John,
Maybe Chicago, Pam. Now he goes to Philly, wins the
offensive Player of the year, damn near since the rushing
record league history within the Super Bowl. I'm mad at
(38:44):
the GM, who's also picking the players, telling the coach
you don't really need Saquon. You got Daniel Jones.
Speaker 2 (38:53):
Dan Jones was bad for as many years.
Speaker 3 (38:55):
But Daniel Jones, I mean think about it. This is
a dude that needed to have the running games. Everybody's
better with Saquon, Okay, everybody better so so to me,
I'm but now, I'm not saying the coach shouldn't be
let go at some point time, but.
Speaker 2 (39:09):
Nick, I'm making a paggage deal, and that could very
well be.
Speaker 3 (39:13):
But to be mad at the coach with such incompetence
to see that the GM position is is.
Speaker 5 (39:17):
Kind of tough.
Speaker 4 (39:18):
Yeah, and I understand that I would clean house. I
just get it all over with this. I mean, I'm
just saying if I were the owner, I would just
clean house, understanding that. You know it maybe not all
have been Dave Ball's fault, but you know what didn't
work here, So move on. Cut your ties, cut your losses.
I mean, Daniel Jones, you look back at what he
did in twenty twenty two, it looks very similar to
what he's doing now. Indianapolis they couldn't sustain it though,
(39:38):
they couldn't build the offensive line around him. That Dave
Ball had a really good saying to make that happen,
and you know that's ultimately going to be their demise.
Speaker 3 (39:47):
Yeah, at some point in time, you know, I do
think the decision makers just okay, okay. When you run
an organization like that the Giants from back when George
Young took over, it's a g led team. George Young
picked the players, Parcels coached him. I mean that was
even they won two championships. That's how they run that organization.
(40:07):
The general man who are doing so as a coach,
you only have so much juice and so much say
that's the way they run it. And it's kind of like,
if you want to come here coach of Dallas Cowboys,
you know that Jerry Jones is going to have all
the final decisions. He'll include you in them. We've clearly
seen where coaches have decided to, hey, I want this player,
such as Rob Marrione. Ellie says Taco charpsit scheme better
(40:28):
than t J.
Speaker 5 (40:29):
Watt.
Speaker 3 (40:30):
It happens, but you do know Jerry's gonna make the decision.
Parcels didn't want to o Jerry. Did these things happen.
It's the way it works here. And so for a
guy like Dave All, the best thing you can do
after you get fired, did somebody interviews you for another job, like,
hey man, what can I do? You know is what
is is Mike Shanahan getting fired by Al Davis and
(40:51):
people were, okay, it's Al and Shanahan when he got
his second opportunity coach Denver Broncos won two Super Bowls
and so you gotta know what it is. But it's
a tough situation up there in New York it is.
And you know, for the Cowboys are kind of lucky
because they replaced Washington. Is that sell a team is
(41:11):
keeping you.
Speaker 5 (41:12):
Out of it?
Speaker 3 (41:15):
That's where we got to go here. Shot. He talked
about Jake Ferguson potentially getting more run this week. Here's
my thought, and tell me if I'm Jake Ferguson to
tight end, how much damnage can Jake.
Speaker 2 (41:33):
Really do this? Twenty four passes yards?
Speaker 3 (41:38):
Thank you? That comes to my thing is like, Okay,
that's nice and Jake's a good player, But is he
a difference maker? That's probably one. Is he going to
be a difference maker? You know, Travis Kelcey shows you
he's a difference making that Kansas City offense here, is
that really going to be the case here?
Speaker 2 (41:54):
Jake has been a difference making.
Speaker 4 (41:56):
He's the oil in your machine. He's not going to
be the thrust or the boost or the high gear
that can make that can make it happen at the
end of the day. But he's gonna be the oil
in the machine. This Green Bay defense for three weeks
is giving up the third most passing yards two tight ends,
so there's gonna be opportunities in the middle. The linebackers.
I love what they do in pass coverage, but they're
asked to play more on the boundary. Eddrian Cooper, he's
(42:19):
a guy that I really liked to coming out of
Texa and m a couple of years ago. That's where
you see him, and you see him in the run
game too, but they run a lot of Tampa two
and what happens in Tampa two is the running backs
and to get a lot of action in the past game.
And so it was a tight end and that's what's
happened with with Green Bay so far. So Jake Ferguson, Yeah,
he's gonna have his opportunities this week. Is it more
than thirteen catches, I don't know, but he's he's gonna
have his run and he's going to continue to They
(42:40):
need to jab.
Speaker 2 (42:41):
That from two years ago who averaged ten and a half.
He needs some explosive plays five touchdown. You need some
explosive not a guy averaging six and a half yard
as a catch. Yes, running back numbers.
Speaker 3 (42:52):
Yeah, absolutely, No, That's what Witting was at the end
when Jason when he came back after retirement, that was
what you're getting out of adjacent and.
Speaker 4 (42:58):
He's got the twenty seven receptions to get so many
broken tackles, He's had three two and they all came
on one play in Philadelphia, So I mean, he's got
to be able to find that contact balance again. I
think maybe what could be playing in the back of
his mind is when he tried to break that tackle
in Week one against Cleveland last year and he got
that knee brain and he was lucky it wasn't worse.
And I wonder how much that factors into, Hey, I
(43:20):
got this big contract, want to be able to live
it out, maybe see another one, you know, I think
about those things. When it comes to Jake Ferguson.
Speaker 3 (43:30):
They're gonna go to him. They need some more explosiveness. Absolutely,
that's what they need for him. You're gonna need something
like getting down the seams and be able to catch
these balls and do something. But just from what we've seen,
like it cannot be another Chicago performance. You know you're
gonna need more from him. If that's what you're saying, Hey,
we're gonna move him up here. We need to see
some more and it just has to be there. They
(43:50):
need explosive plays. They also need to have the ability
to run and sustain the football to keep this defense
off the field.
Speaker 4 (43:55):
I think there's really only one player that I could
look at and say, now that be a difference maker.
Because you're expecting George Pickens to get his, You're expecting
Jake Ferguson to get his. I don't know if you're
expecting Cavante Turpin to get his. And if they can
figure out how to get the ball into Cavante Turbin's hands,
I think they might find some success. They had that
deep play against Chicago in the second half. Game didn't
matter by that point, but there's gonna be opportunities like
that for him.
Speaker 3 (44:16):
If a kid like Turping can give you two explosive
plays in the game, that's what you need. If you
can get two of those here some things, some drives
