Speaker 1 (00:02):
The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
This is Mick shot streaming live on Dallas Cowboys dot
Com and the official Dallas Cowboys at now Here are
Bill Jones, Heckma, Harrison Everson, Wolves, and Mickey Spagnola.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
Go Dallas boy.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
No flos a.

Speaker 4 (01:02):
Heckber you figured out the words of that song. Yet
it took us several years before we finally figured out
the words to that fight what it means?

Speaker 5 (01:09):
Yeah, yeah, the bill, I have no idea what they
were saying to make it down of the.

Speaker 6 (01:13):
Senior Pro Senior Pro. Yeah, we should have got we
should have got the competing song bear down Chicago Bears.

Speaker 4 (01:21):
There you go, and.

Speaker 6 (01:22):
It sounds the same.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
It's the same tune. I think the Dolphins have one
that was the same, and there was it was that
was the NFL. That's right, that's right, Yeah, all right,
So it's a fight song Friday. Hey here inside the
s w b C pot do at Studio Cowboys Bears
on Sunday at three twenty five. Oh yes, back in

(01:43):
what is Sunday afternoon prime time? No more this new stuff?
Yeah exactly, yeah, please throw.

Speaker 7 (01:55):
Hottailgate man was tough, man. It's hard to get people up.

Speaker 4 (01:59):
By the way, that was first time in twenty years
that the Cowboys played the Giants at home in a
noon kickoff. And I think the network TV executives regretted
that decision.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
The way the way.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
That game turned out as exciting as it was in
the end. Okay, never again, they.

Speaker 7 (02:15):
Could have saved that. I should have saved it for
a better time slot.

Speaker 4 (02:18):
That's right, that's right, all right. So here we go
and uh, so much to get to, so little time
to get there. And we'll have our picks at the
end of the show, our picks to click. And Brian
Schottenheimer's already talked to the media, hadn't he he did
anything coming out of that today? The updates we need

(02:40):
to know before we kick things off.

Speaker 6 (02:41):
Here we talked, Jerry talked a lot of talking going.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
On page sixteen.

Speaker 5 (02:50):
It's like when in the church when they asked you
to go to the scripture, the minister is standing there
waiting when you got it.

Speaker 6 (02:59):
The same, it's the same. This is the whole week
right here, right. He got asked about Turpin said that
he feels like he's ready to go.

Speaker 8 (03:13):
Asked, yes, that's the good one right there.

Speaker 6 (03:15):
Asked about Jaden Blue, and he said he's been more
consistent over these last two weeks. And Jerry went into
it a little deeper, explaining that sometimes guys aren't being
inactive to punish him. It's like, where's our weakness and
where do we need more personnel meeting on defense? So

(03:38):
h that's how he answered that one, and I thought
this was interesting. They asked Jerry if in the coming
weeks if he was open for business to find a
defensive player in a trade, and Jerry said, absolutely, absolutely,
I'm open for business period relative to now, because we

(04:03):
have those extra picks. And then he went into this
explanation that the herschel Walker trade gave them extra picks.
So in ninety two, when he had the opportunity to
trade for Charles Hayley, which was a risky proposition the
way he was acting in San Francisco at the time,
he said, I could go ahead and do that and

(04:27):
take the chance because I had these extra picks.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
It's funny you mention that, because I've been waiting a
couple of weeks to say this. I mentioned Bob Papa,
the Giants play by play guy earlier this week, But
here this is something from a couple of weeks ago
that he said after the Michael Parsons trade. And he
couldn't figure out the comment that Jerry had at that
time about we can use these first round picks and

(04:52):
you know, there's nothing that says we can't use them
now to improve the team for this year. And Papa
would just say, what team has ever done that where
they will give up first round picks in the middle
of the season for a player?

Speaker 6 (05:05):
Right now?

Speaker 4 (05:07):
Well, how about this Sea Yeah, And in fact, twenty seventeen,
I'm Ali Cooper trade. Go back two thousand and eight,
the Roy Williams trade where they gave up first round
picks in the middle of the season.

Speaker 6 (05:19):
Now, he added judiciously, right, not going to be careless, And.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
He's not going to be careless in the trade.

Speaker 6 (05:28):
Do you remember, do you remember when they traded for
a Lonzo high Smith. Yes, And he told that story,
good man, good man, about how the doctors told him
this guy's knee, I don't know if he can be
able to play anymore. Well, they made the trade and
they burned the pick because he didn't play anymore that

(05:50):
he was he was done. So so yeah, you can
make a mistake, like you know with salary cap money,
you bring in David Clowney. If it doesn't work, you
take out the eraser and say, okay, go ahead.

Speaker 4 (06:05):
Blue.

Speaker 8 (06:05):
What's going on with Blue? What's really going on with No?

Speaker 6 (06:08):
I think it's the deal about being consistent and earning
trust too as a rookie.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Is he found the ball in practice?

Speaker 4 (06:16):
They don't.

Speaker 6 (06:16):
They don't hit hard enough in practice.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
Some wondering what has he done?

Speaker 6 (06:20):
It wouldn't be a sign. And then he pointed out
he needs to spend and this.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Was Shottenheimer, Yeah, I want to hear with the coaches.

Speaker 6 (06:30):
Schottenheimer said he needs to spend more time with Nick
meaning special team sorts and that uh. And he said
he's been a phenomenal job learning the system, but they've
got their returner, so if he's active, he's got to
be on some other special teams.

Speaker 4 (06:46):
I don't think.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
I don't.

Speaker 4 (06:47):
I think this was the plan all along with Jayden Blue.
He's a fifth round draft pick, and I think with
a rookie running back, I mean, look at Ashton Genty,
who's a sixth pick in the draft, and it's been
struggle getting things going, uh, And there's a reason that
they got these veteran guys in here, Javonte Williams and
Miles Sanders, and then you bring the fifth round rookie

(07:12):
along as you go here, because it's as you know,
you know, it's a long season. So I don't think
it's I don't look at it myself as a setback
for Jaden Blue that he hasn't been active. I think
it's sort of a natural progression. And I don't think
that they're out on him by any means.

Speaker 8 (07:28):
It's just I don't think they are either.

Speaker 7 (07:29):
But I was just looking forward to see that speed
on the field along with yeah, something to where we
can show what you can do. And you know, we
brought turfing along very slowly last year, except of course returns,
and I don't want to see Blue take that long.
I want to see what kind of impact he can make.

(07:50):
But of course the offensive line's got to do a job,
you know, because Javonte had to do some work before
he's able to burst one right, And so I'm hoping that,
you know, Blue was able to get that opportunity and
see how see how he can maybe up this game
a little bit.

Speaker 6 (08:03):
They were trying to avoid what was it, the Seattle
return guy. It didn't go Chase.

Speaker 4 (08:08):
Right, In fact, that was that was a rookie. Well,
here you go. That's a great, great example. Caleb Johnson,
who's the second and third round pick and he's returning.

Speaker 6 (08:18):
Thought he was in college and.

Speaker 4 (08:20):
So and then I was thinking, you remember the Ohio
State running backs. Travon Henderson is with the Patriots and
he looked great in the preseason, and but he's not
getting that many snaps now because they got veteran guys
in front of him and Quinn. Of course quin John
judges Sidkins because he had the off the field incident,
and so he actually did start his first game with Cleveland.

(08:43):
But Cleveland's in a different situation.

Speaker 5 (08:46):
It's the curious case of Jaden Blue. You knew after
the last season you needed a running back, and that's
why everyone was clamoring in the draft. Man, when are
we gonna get one? We finally get one off the
board is Jayden Blue. And everyone here knows you know,
watch Texas football, So you've gotten an opportunity to see
this young man shine. And he's shined due to multiple
injuries at the University of Texas, but every since the

(09:10):
just training camp, it's just been this grey area with
him and why he hadn't been getting the reps things
like that.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
That's happening.

Speaker 5 (09:17):
And you know, Javonte Williams, Miles Sanders for what they've
done so far, I can understand like these guys are,
especially Jamonti Williams, right, But in the case of Miles Sanders,
and especially after the fumble against the Philadelphia you're saying yourself, well, damn,
why is Jaydon Blue not getting more of an opportunity?
And I think you're hearing it right there from the coach.
He's saying, hey, he needs to be more involved, you know,

(09:37):
with special teams. But hell, that's telling you everything you
need to know about him. He's not going to be
your bell cow running back, even when he does play well.

Speaker 7 (09:45):
When you have an emerging runner like Javonte, then that
kind of gives the staff plaus.

Speaker 8 (09:54):
Like we don't have to wrest this young man.

Speaker 6 (09:56):
And you know what coaches do, are going to air.
It's the air on no.

Speaker 8 (10:00):
Doubt, no doubt, no doubt. Rookie.

Speaker 7 (10:02):
Yeah, it took me a while it took me a while, like, man,
how many I need, coach?

Speaker 2 (10:07):
You want four?

Speaker 8 (10:07):
Okay? Five?

Speaker 4 (10:09):
So how many games did it take?

Speaker 8 (10:10):
Five games?

Speaker 4 (10:11):
Five games? So there you go, and and that's a
highly productive rookie.

Speaker 6 (10:15):
Who was playing nobody, no, somebody had to start now.

Speaker 7 (10:21):
It was Steve Wilson was one of the guys that
was playing. The year before it was always Eric Mitchell
and Steve Wilson undrafted uh cree agent from from Howard, Okay.
And he ended up going to Denver uh the year
after my rookie year because here comes round fellows who
started to marriage as well. And then once we moved
Dennis Sterman from safety over the corner, we got too

(10:42):
many corners, right, and that was a luxury, a good
luxury to have.

Speaker 6 (10:46):
I was trying to remember the guy that Bill Bates
bumped off the team. Do you remember he got He
told the story himself. It's like, oh, they kept this
white guy.

Speaker 7 (10:57):
Ben Barnes, Benny Bars, Benny bourn shout out to Binny Bournes. Yeah,
Benny Barnes. That was a guy that you know, he
held it down for as long as he could. But
he was a guy that could play safety. And cornerback,
which is the kind of experience they needed. But we
were never known for having corners since mel Renfrow.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
And that's right.

Speaker 7 (11:18):
Once again, guys, I bring up this bad words flex defense.
Nobody realizes the trauma that the cornerback is under playing
the flex defense. And that's just something I've always tried
to explain. I've given up giving up.

Speaker 4 (11:32):
Okay, hecma with his rundown for today. Keys to the victory,
Let's go around the horn, give me a give me
a big one, give me a key to victory. What
do you what are you thinking?

Speaker 9 (11:45):
So?

Speaker 5 (11:46):
I think number one, if we're going to talk about
Dak Prescott is going to be protecting him, making sure
that he's cleaning the pocket and he can deliver. We've
already talked about obviously the what Chicago is in their
secondary we know their names up front. But the second
there this week and where we could take advantage is
obviously in our passing game, where we have to continue
to commit to the god that we were just talking

(12:08):
about Javonte Williams.

Speaker 2 (12:09):
So I think that's the key to victory for us.

Speaker 7 (12:11):
That's how you do it, That's how you take care
of the protection for Dak Prescott.

Speaker 8 (12:15):
You gotta be able to.

Speaker 7 (12:17):
Run the ball at least attempt to it show them
that you're committed to it.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
And we not only did we show we were committed.

Speaker 7 (12:25):
To it in the Giants game, we actually did well
with it because what Tony Dorr said, I remember Tom
Landry always saying, you know, this guy's kind of small,
but he's real fast. So he's gonna get hit. He's
gonna get hit, he's gonna get hit, and he's gonna
break one. And that's what Tony did the entire time.
So that's the rhythm of having a good running game.

(12:46):
You don't always come out six yards, seven yards, eight yards,
but if you have that threat, that threat can always
be a game changer. And that's what Tony Dorr said
was that's what Javonte's run did in the game itself.
Once he made that touchdown, all of a sudden, we
got confidence and I run the game. Now everything opens
up for your quarterback.

Speaker 8 (13:06):
You know.

Speaker 4 (13:06):
Talking with Brian Schottenheimer yesterday, one thing that he did
say that it is different about this front for Chicago.
It's different than what Philadelphia has. It's different than what
the Giants have. And I think he was talking more
so in terms of the defensive ends, where the defensive
ends are for what the Eagles have and obviously what

(13:27):
the Giants have. These speed guys coming off the edge,
and these these ends are bigger guys, not to say
they aren't athletic. Montes s what did you know? Montes Sweat,
who is by the way, he listed six six, two
hundred and sixty five pounds, thirty six inch arms. Okay,
you know what he ran at the Combine. Just take
a wild guess. It's six six, two hundred and sixty

(13:49):
five pounds for five.

Speaker 6 (13:52):
I was gonna say four to six.

Speaker 4 (13:54):
Four four one. He ran a four four to one
at the Combine, which was a check that time, all
time record for a defensive lineman at the Combine.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
That's ridiculous.

Speaker 8 (14:06):
He has a brother, right, does he? They look him up.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
The avenue, Yeah, thinking John Sweat, Josh, that's what you think?

Speaker 8 (14:21):
Not related?

Speaker 2 (14:21):
Probably not, don't think, but.

Speaker 8 (14:22):
This is you know.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
Sweaweat He probably sixty six to two.

Speaker 4 (14:27):
So anyway, so the Bears have invested in there, even
though they don't get as much acclaim. They've invested in
their front four on defense with Montese Sweat who got
a after he came over in the trade from Washington,
got a four year, ninety eight million dollar deal, and
Grady Jarrett was there. I mean, first thing, Rady Jarrett

(14:49):
was let go by the Falcons and they jumped on
him three years, forty five million. And then Deo a
Dangbo who's out of Carleton ranch View High School by
the way, there we go. They gave him three years
and forty three million dollars this offseason. So, I mean,
and he's number fifty five who plays defensive end as well.

Speaker 6 (15:09):
That would do well in Carrollton.

Speaker 7 (15:11):
Yet they gave up how many rushing yards to Detroit
running backs this past weekend?

Speaker 4 (15:17):
They cashed them, Yes they did.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
Yeah, they gashed him.

Speaker 4 (15:20):
They got two pretty good running.

Speaker 5 (15:21):
Backs and on top, pretty good offensive line. Yeah, a
damn good offensive line. And the fact that they were
bombing them so bad that defense was all out of
whack and their offense was so so bad also that man,
they defense the time on task for those guys. Man,
by the time they got to the fourth quarter, they're
just like, let's get up out.

Speaker 10 (15:40):
You know.

Speaker 7 (15:41):
The Cowboys offense has the ability to do that, to
spread you out, make you uncomfortable, isolate a lot of
people make your defensive lineman work.

Speaker 6 (15:51):
That's why if Chris had the sounder, I need an
Arro Raid signer.

Speaker 2 (15:57):
Yeah, because they're.

Speaker 8 (15:58):
Gonna bomb away out.

Speaker 6 (16:00):
You look at their injury report, there's three corners that
were on the list. We're still not practicing Yesterday'll be
interesting to see how that turns out.

Speaker 5 (16:10):
That's what scares me about this matchup is that right
there is going into a matchup saying, hey, we're gonna
bum these guys, instead of sticking to the script of
staying balanced and waiting for the opportunity.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
They are.

Speaker 5 (16:21):
They're hurt, they're laying these guys that are out right now,
and the temptation to throw the ball fifty two times
I like it, I don't like it.

Speaker 6 (16:29):
I didn't say fifty and I'm attacking if they gotta
start Naseean right, I'm throwing.

Speaker 2 (16:39):
Against right man.

Speaker 5 (16:40):
Right.

Speaker 2 (16:43):
I believe everything you said is true.

Speaker 7 (16:45):
I'm just hoping we can go out with the mentality
right of Okay, Yeah, we're gonna guess, but we're gonna
we're gonna be timely in how we do it. Now,
you can't you know, you're gonna come out just throwing
stuff deep because you got safeties over there. It's like,
all right, I'm just gonna start. They're going to be smart.
I'm like our safeties, we're gonna.

Speaker 6 (17:04):
Start going to play around and let work our way.

Speaker 7 (17:06):
Up right, And that's the way you should do it
if you know what their strength is.

Speaker 2 (17:10):
Right, we need to show them that we can do
something else.

Speaker 7 (17:13):
And if I were the way, I like to look
at who we go up against, if I was playing them,
what would I do if we were If you were
coach for Chicago, how would you attack the Dallas Cowboys offensively?
I mean, how would you attack the Cowboys offense?

Speaker 2 (17:31):
I will you?

Speaker 8 (17:32):
In Chicago?

Speaker 6 (17:32):
I would be blitzing and pressing because I don't want
Dak Prescott.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
To beat me.

Speaker 8 (17:38):
And no free releases by the wide receiver.

Speaker 6 (17:40):
Yes, absolutely, that's right.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
And that works against us.

Speaker 6 (17:45):
Dennis Sallin will do that.

Speaker 8 (17:46):
That works against us as well.

Speaker 7 (17:48):
It gives us pause offense, right when we do that,
When someone does that to us.

Speaker 6 (17:52):
And then it puts pressure on the offensive line, can
they figure out the blitzers and.

Speaker 7 (17:57):
God forbid, we get a strip, sack and interception all
of a sudden, the crowd is going crazy and Caleb
Williams is amazing man.

Speaker 5 (18:05):
And I saw a PFF stat and I know you
would love me, and I did. I did because it
was about it to come from PFF and it's about
Dak under pressure and how he's performed, so you know,
it's one of the things that he always has. Really really,
that's what I'm saying. So if that's if that's what you,
as Chicago Bears defensive coordinator are saying, I'm going to
attack Dak coming off of the Giants game.

Speaker 2 (18:26):
How did that bowl for the Giants?

Speaker 5 (18:28):
You know, although they got pressure, even with the technique,
the personal files and all of that, still Dak was
able to maneuver in the pocket and find guys down.

Speaker 7 (18:36):
The many more passing yards because these guys were just
yanking and it wasn't even past technique.

Speaker 8 (18:43):
It wasn't That's not how.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
DB's played mall technique all hands.

Speaker 7 (18:50):
You know, it's like you're going out there to try
and hurt somebody or something. And I didn't like that.
That's not the way DB's play. If they were just
paid attention to their technique, they maybe could have made
a up the freaking plays.

Speaker 6 (19:01):
I had somebody tell me, and I guess I just
passed it off. As well as football, they're the dirtiest
team I ever seed. Dirty And you know what, you
look back at the penalties, not how they were, not
what they were, but what they did.

Speaker 8 (19:17):
It's like, yeah, you heard somebody like that.

Speaker 7 (19:20):
You're trying to come out of your break, and okay,
dude might try to grab you by the back or
get your arm or something. They're grabbing jerseys, you know,
they're they're doing all kinds of things, twisting shoulders as
a guy is trying to make a move.

Speaker 8 (19:32):
That kind of stuff is dangerous and.

Speaker 7 (19:34):
I think they knew that, and they wanted to intimidate
us in the secondary, but they we got two dogs
on each end.

Speaker 8 (19:39):
You can't do that.

Speaker 4 (19:40):
And I'll tell you what in this league, if you
at the quarterback, you know all you gotta do is
just touch him, just barely touch him up near the
neck headed area, and you're getting flat flat. Did you
see them Bills game last night? Dolphins? Yes, down on
the goal line where they had Josh Allen stood up
and and then there was a player underneath Josh Allen.

(20:03):
Dolphins player underneath Josh Allen, and so they had stood
him up. He had stopped, stopped basically one or two
yard line, and so they were pushed naturally, pushing them back,
and so the whole pile just kind of stumble. Everyone
kind of stumbles back, and so here goes Josh Allen
down on the ground. Here comes the flag. Unbelievable. That's

(20:24):
the unnecessary roughness against the Dolphins.

Speaker 2 (20:26):
They stopped him, they stopped, they.

Speaker 4 (20:28):
Stopped him, and the reason everybody was falling backwards because
there was a player underneath them, underneath Josh Allen. Of course,
to his credit, Josh Allen just played it out, you know,
and sure enough he got the flag.

Speaker 5 (20:39):
Got to help me Bill As as a broadcaster, in
moments like those, I feel like I'm the worst on
air because I'm like, well.

Speaker 2 (20:46):
You're rubbing us of the game. Well, and then I
see the feed like wait a.

Speaker 5 (20:51):
Minute, you need to be more up up to date
on how the game is going these days, like what well?

Speaker 4 (20:55):
And then Al Michaels and heard the street. They're they're
both saying, oh, yeah, that's a fly, that's flag, and
I'm yelling at the TV going it shouldn't be exactly.

Speaker 2 (21:04):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (21:05):
It's like targeting in college, just all of those things,
but in the pros you absolutely cannot touch the quarterback.
And I didn't agree with all those that they called
on deck. I mean call it, yes, the Giants, yay us.
But I'm like, man, that's in your day, that was
that's just normal football.

Speaker 4 (21:22):
In fact, it's funny you mentioned because I know you
talked about the passing of D. D Lewis yesterday and
I was looking at, uh, some of the old D.
D Lewis footage from the seventies, and one of the
guys in the sports office at CBS eleven made the comment,
he said, every one of his tackles, he's up high.
He's like tackling by.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
The line loadline.

Speaker 4 (21:44):
So we're looking at the field from the sevenies, going
every one of them is like a penalty tonight, the
people's elbow.

Speaker 6 (21:50):
Who which By the way, I talked to my buddy
and Jackson, and he reminded me of the D. D
Lewis story. He couldn't remember the details, but it was
told to me that he got pissed at Hollywood Henderson
one day and practicing who didn't and and and went
after him in the locker room.

Speaker 2 (22:09):
That was That was d D by the way.

Speaker 6 (22:11):
Oh and Jerry was going to LeRoy's memorials yes this morning.

Speaker 8 (22:17):
He said, Well they had, they had a nice little
casual thing yesterday.

Speaker 6 (22:21):
Yesterday.

Speaker 4 (22:22):
Yeah, for Leroy Jordans.

Speaker 8 (22:24):
Leroy Jordans.

Speaker 4 (22:26):
All right, we're just getting started here on a fight
Song Friday edition of Mixed Shots and more of the

He's the victory? We all gave ours.

Speaker 4 (26:55):
Well, I'm going off a list right here.

Speaker 6 (26:58):
But there was more pick one, it was it was
pick one.

Speaker 4 (27:03):
Oh, here are the choices. Here are the choices. Protect
Dak Prescott established the run pressure Caleb Williams or four
red zone execution touchdowns not fielding codes?

Speaker 7 (27:19):
Which one on the road. That's tough on the road. Okay,
let's just remember that, guys. We're playing on the road,
and when it comes to road games, we just we
seem to bow down to the pressure from the stands
and from the audience.

Speaker 4 (27:33):
You were in there when Will McLay did his little telestrators. Yes,
I was looking at the Bears offense. Caleb Williams, Okay,
what did you take from that? Well? The thing which
by the way you can catch on Dallas Cowboys dot
com that segment part of the Cowboys huddle.

Speaker 6 (27:51):
When he he was explaining how much twelve personnel they
use two tight ends and and that. Uh and I said,
so does that mean they want to run? And it
goes no, their tight ends can get down the field,
you would, yes, Yeah, what what happens is you've got
a you're probably playing three linebackers, right because there's two

(28:13):
tight ends in But now can those linebackers help cover
the tight ends?

Speaker 2 (28:20):
Uh?

Speaker 6 (28:20):
And so remember last year or two the Cowboys are
playing that big nickel.

Speaker 8 (28:27):
Good mcwameck.

Speaker 6 (28:28):
Yes, right, but do you have somebody that can can
do that?

Speaker 8 (28:33):
Right?

Speaker 6 (28:34):
But I thought that was interesting that they had. They're
almost forcing your hand on what you're playing defensively if
they got two tight ends.

Speaker 7 (28:42):
Did they talk about the options they're going to use?
Are they talking three linebacks? They're going big nickel?

Speaker 4 (28:47):
Well, they've been they've been using a lot of the
three linebackers.

Speaker 6 (28:51):
Yeah, they've been going.

Speaker 4 (28:53):
Just eber Flu's general philosophy, I think, compared to both
Zimmer and Quinn before.

Speaker 6 (29:00):
Right, So, but what made me think if they need
one of those linebackers to work in coverage. Maybe instead
of Dumont Clark, it's Leo foul.

Speaker 5 (29:10):
Yeah, and I would go with Lea Fout just because
of the speed components with him and twelve personnel again
co comit and as we were talking about in Coaston
lovelin their two tight ends. I don't think that package
bowls well for them as a team yet, because you know,
you're trying to play something that I don't think you
have the guys with the skill set that can actually
get it done. For me, I was thinking that the

(29:31):
Cowboys would go more of a big nickel this game
versus the three linebacker look, because even in the last game,
even though I thought it was much improved in the
linebacker play, you still could see and you need to
support also. Ever since from your safeties, you know the
safeties have to be solid in that as well, and
guys like Donovan Wilson, I don't think one of their
strong suits is one on one.

Speaker 7 (29:51):
We say one thing about Donovan Wilson, I never see
him making the same mistake from game to game.

Speaker 2 (29:58):
That's a good thing.

Speaker 7 (29:59):
I see him it out matched in the game and
it might be consistent in that game but usually I've
seen him come back to make some play. Made the
made the play, made the interception to uh to to
you know, keep it going.

Speaker 8 (30:11):
For the Cowboys, uh in the last quarter.

Speaker 7 (30:14):
But when I'm looking at a guy a defense like ours,
our linebackers were having problems running down the seams with
these wide receivers.

Speaker 6 (30:21):
They were supposed to be trailing underneath.

Speaker 7 (30:24):
That's right, and they're supposed to make a lofty of ball.
The safety is a chance to come over and make
a play. But when you're talking about this game, you
got a tight end that's just as good running down
the field. I saw him catching some passes on some highlights,
and this guy is a very lengthy, wide receiver looking
tight end.

Speaker 6 (30:44):
So here's their depth chart, right, and they list as
their eleven starters two tight ends, so be working.

Speaker 4 (30:52):
And Coaston Lovelin, by the way, their first round draft pick.
He has been on the field for fifty five percent
of the snap. He's the second and tight end. So
basically that tells you they're in twelve personnel, two tight
ends fifty five percent of the time. And here's what
they think about him. He was the tenth pick in
the draft and so and when you look at Ben

(31:13):
Johnson's history with Detroit, not only with Sam Laporta, but
brock Wright their second night, and they used a lot
of twelve personnel. The other thing that Will was pointing
out about Caleb Williams, and you know what the Bears
have done in the off season. They invested heavily in
their interior of their offensive line, and it needed to

(31:34):
be invested heavily. And they got Joe Tooney at left guard.
They got Drew Dollman, they have a big contract to
former Falcon at center. And then Jonah Jackson, who Ben
Johnson had at Detroit and he signed with the Rams,
was only there for a year, and he of those three,
Jonah Jackson the right guard, is the shakiest of the three,

(31:55):
I think. But what they've tried to do is provide
a pocket for Caleb Williams. And as Will was pointing out,
a couple of examples is where they went empty. And
depending on whether you have had a spy on the
field or not, for Caleb Williams, it is an example
against the Vikings two weeks ago, no spy on the field,

(32:17):
empty backfield, red zone. He takes off and then Caleb
Williams has enough speed to get to the pylon and
scored a touchdown on their first drive of the season.
They came back later in that game, they had a
linebacker on the field, and yet Caleb was able to
get out to the right side, and he has the
athleticism and the arm talent and so forth, where he

(32:38):
was actually getting forced out of bounds and complete a
pass on the sideline. That was a remarkable play. So
Caleb can make plays under duress. The thing that I
think has been his problem going back to college, both
at Oklahoma and at USC is that I think a
lot of times he tries to do too much.

Speaker 8 (32:59):
He has a problem improvising and or.

Speaker 4 (33:02):
He tries he just needs to throw it away.

Speaker 2 (33:06):
And play it rightly.

Speaker 8 (33:08):
What has been in the past, you know, when he
was younger.

Speaker 6 (33:10):
So if you're gonna if you're gonna spy him, you
can't spy him with a linebacker, right. So if they
go big Nickel Janie Thomas, I'm thinking, has to be
a guy closer to the line of scrimmage that you want.

Speaker 8 (33:24):
They kind of did that with Russell, didn't they. Wan
Ye was in there.

Speaker 7 (33:27):
Yeah, he was kind of chasing Russell from behind on
that one play.

Speaker 8 (33:30):
But Russell didn't scrambled nearly, No.

Speaker 6 (33:32):
Because he had time to throw it deep or he
took three steps back and heaven did it and by
time the ball came down, Yeah, he was protected.

Speaker 8 (33:42):
Whenever you whenever.

Speaker 7 (33:44):
We once again talking about if I'm Chicago going against
the Cowboys, the one thing that the Giants did and
with Chicago's going to try to do as well. You're
going to try and keep the offense of the Cowboys
off the field. So they're going to try and run
the all with twelve personnel, that's just the fact.

Speaker 8 (34:03):
And they're going to try.

Speaker 7 (34:04):
And play action, if not big plays, they're definitely gonna
try and throw the short passes and keep the drive going,
as the Giants did with six penalties at least on
the first drive, and they still were successful in scoring
on that drive.

Speaker 5 (34:19):
And that's the medicine for Kayleb Williams if he starts
to understand that, to take what's underneath instead of trying
to hit the big play all the time. I think,
and I think if he's watching our film from last Sunday,
he's like, look, I'm going to pressure these guys on
the seams.

Speaker 2 (34:32):
I'm trying to go big.

Speaker 5 (34:34):
I'm trying to get those big plays like Russ did,
because hey, Russ didn't get touched, you know, in those situations.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
But they Russ didn't start off like that.

Speaker 7 (34:42):
Norus started off with intermediate passes, keeping the drives going,
moving the chain.

Speaker 6 (34:48):
You know how long that drive was?

Speaker 8 (34:51):
What was it?

Speaker 6 (34:51):
Seven took up the whole page.

Speaker 2 (34:55):
That lets you know that, lets you know right there.

Speaker 4 (34:58):
All right, our picks stick click Cowboys bears when we

so fearlessly we'll never forget the way you thrilled the

Speaker 7 (39:07):
So yeah, we take six minutes to do out, perhap.
I think we should go on and get off.

Speaker 4 (39:11):
See if Shotty did anything that you need anything else
we want to point out before we go to.

Speaker 5 (39:16):
Our Hey, can we just pray for our defense to
be better? You know, that's let's let's start there.

Speaker 8 (39:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (39:22):
You know, Mattiberfluss has probably been in that safety room
talking to those guys to make sure that they understand
if they're gonna play predominantly zone, which I don't see
them switching from that. We talked about a little bit
yesterday about you know, having man corners playing in zone,
and you said it man, you know, hey, that's that's
the first defense you learned, so you ought to be
able to adjust to that. It just it just didn't

(39:43):
look good versus the Giants. So in this test coming
up against the Bears, because as much as the question
mark's loom over who Caleb Williams is or isn't, what
we do know about him is he can still throw
the ball and he.

Speaker 2 (39:56):
Throws it on time, Yes, and he is.

Speaker 7 (39:58):
If we were able to stop him from throwing on time,
what if doing we play smarter zone. Since we're going
to be playing zone, let's play smarter zone. Let's understand
what they're trying to do with the positions that they have,
with the with the formations that they use, and maybe
make him bring it down instead of giving give him

(40:18):
as much timing as they did with Russell. Russell was
one two, three, four, throw in release.

Speaker 8 (40:23):
That was it.

Speaker 7 (40:24):
Maybe if we can make them hesitate just a little
bit that's when Caleb saw.

Speaker 8 (40:28):
Us to have problems.

Speaker 5 (40:29):
And it's not that I don't have any healthy respect
for DeAndre Swift. I just don't as far as your
first you know guy that you went up against, he's
not that you know. So I think you you're in
a situation where defensively your front seven should feel really
good about stopping the run, but also putting pressure. I mean,
blitch this guy come after you force him into make consider.

Speaker 8 (40:50):
We do zone blitches? Does he do zone blitzes?

Speaker 2 (40:52):
Even if that yeah.

Speaker 7 (40:54):
I think that should be something that's very prevalent. Because
you have a younger quarterback who still had to figure
that out. With Russell, I could understand his hesitancy still
didn't work.

Speaker 6 (41:03):
But came out of Schottenheimer's mouth was matchup zone. So
explain it well.

Speaker 7 (41:10):
Matchup zone means that instead of you staying directly uniform
and if I say deep third, I'm deep third, you're
deep third, and we just stay deep third no matter
what's going on in front of us. On this particular,
when you say a matchup zone, that means you have
some idea about what they're trying to do. So if
a person comes into your area, no matter what he

(41:32):
even if he's in the short area, if that's your matchup,
then you still have to play that man. It turns
from a zone to a man because the route dictates
who picks up who. Now, based on that philosophy, then
everyone should be covered. But in a matchup zone, if
one person screws up, he.

Speaker 6 (41:57):
Was just mentioning you can play zone.

Speaker 7 (42:00):
It's a changing that's a change up to what now
we don't have to worry about. Okay, well, should I
let this guy like like Jagg's running down the field
with his arms out like this, You shouldn't have that
in a matchup zone. Once that man comes into the area,
you latch onto him, no matter who else might come
from a tight split from the other side into your area.

(42:23):
That's not my man. I am now on this man
over here on the left side. If someone comes from
the right, the safety from the right better match up
with it.

Speaker 5 (42:32):
And it's not that the average fan doesn't understand what
you're saying. It's just that they don't understand how that
plays out in the football sense. If you have a
wide receiver like Ceedee Lamb on one side and George
Pickens on one side, we know we have to double
one guy, all right, but we have to play man
on the other side. What does that look like stylistically?
How do you move the safeties over those things? And

(42:52):
so they think like when you say a matchup zone,
everyone went back and looked at the Giant's tape and
said this, it's just horrible, you know, in that situation,
not understanding that he needed to have safety help over
the top, and that's why he was lagging back a
little bit, playing to the boundary.

Speaker 8 (43:07):
Versus I had those excuses when I played.

Speaker 7 (43:11):
Did you go to the reported media help?

Speaker 6 (43:15):
No help but worst Vince al Breton, best.

Speaker 8 (43:17):
Ways when you need it, and so no.

Speaker 7 (43:20):
But those things can also be counted your offensive coordinators.

Speaker 8 (43:24):
They're not stupid either.

Speaker 7 (43:26):
If you're going to have a matchup zone, then there's
a there's always a weakness in a match whatever defense
you play, it's up to the offensive coordinator for the
Bears to find out what that is.

Speaker 6 (43:34):
Did you think a defensive we got to do? Sorry?
I had another.

Speaker 7 (43:41):
When Bill stops stops talking and then you.

Speaker 4 (43:45):
Know, when I start twiddling my thumbs, that means, okay,
it's time for picks to click.

Speaker 2 (43:49):
Let's do it.

Speaker 4 (43:50):
Okay, all right, we're going around the horn here.

Speaker 8 (43:52):
I'll go first.

Speaker 4 (43:53):
Evers is going first. You're going to keep track too.

Speaker 8 (43:56):
Oh, I sure can say. I sure can't put that
in my notes. I had it.

Speaker 6 (44:00):
You're the administrative assistance.

Speaker 4 (44:02):
You make sure you text it to us so that
we have it, because you're not going to be here
on Monday, remember I am.

Speaker 8 (44:07):
That's very good, sir.

Speaker 7 (44:08):
I am looking at defense. If we're going to win
this game, then it's going to have to come from
the secondary. I think our secondary is going to have
to play well. Much as I want to give Donovan
Wilson some love and tell say he's going to get
another pick, I'm looking at my boy Eli and he's
going to make some plays.

Speaker 8 (44:26):
He's gonna make some plays.

Speaker 7 (44:27):
I look for him to at least get one turnover,
and he'd better not give up a touchdown.

Speaker 2 (44:34):
Boys Cowboy, I picked.

Speaker 6 (44:36):
I picked, Why don't you mes?

Speaker 7 (44:38):
So I'm looking at the Cowboys. If we're gonna win
this game, I don't. I don't want it to be close.
So I'm looking at the Cowboys scoring thirty five points.
Cowboy's scoring thirty five points giving up twenty one. So
thirty five to twenty one Cowboys.

Speaker 4 (44:54):
Okay, I like that, and your pick click was guy
El Okay, yeah right.

Speaker 5 (45:00):
So guys, y'all heard the term ball like a dog, right,
You say that all the time, Mickey, always all the time.
So ball like a dog. And that's what I'm putting
on Dak Prescott. Ball like a dog. And he is
starting off hot and he can be even hotter after
Sunday and this offense, you know, keeping that balance. We
talked about our running back Williams keeping that balance.

Speaker 2 (45:21):
But man, our.

Speaker 5 (45:21):
Wide receivers should have great days, a great day against Chicago.

Speaker 2 (45:27):
So Dak Prescott is my player.

Speaker 5 (45:30):
When I say the score, I'm going forty burger again
on back to the forty burger. I'm going forty two seventeen.
Forty two seventeen.

Speaker 8 (45:40):
Is my scowl. That's comfortable.

Speaker 2 (45:43):
Ball like a dog.

Speaker 8 (45:44):
Be comfortable.

Speaker 6 (45:45):
Comfortable.

Speaker 2 (45:45):
Huh.

Speaker 4 (45:46):
It means the Bears.

Speaker 2 (45:48):
What you're looking for Dak to do.

Speaker 5 (45:51):
I'm looking for Dak to get the ball to George Pickens.
That's it, Doctor Pickens, Daktor Pickens, you know, exploit that matchup.

Speaker 6 (45:59):
Since he's that I'm gonna take George Pickens.

Speaker 2 (46:02):
All right, there we go ball like a dog.

Speaker 6 (46:04):
And I will take Cowboys thirty one Bears twenty three.

Speaker 4 (46:10):
Okay, that's close. Thirty one twenty three, all right? In
your memory, Hey, there we go, go nicky in your
memory hyping?

Speaker 2 (46:22):
What is what is the most let's go bag spags?

Speaker 8 (46:26):
I'm sorry, what were you? Spags?

Speaker 6 (46:27):
Thirty one?

Speaker 2 (46:29):
Pickens thirty one? Twenty what three?

Speaker 8 (46:32):
Thank you? Sorry about that? Bill, go ahead.

Speaker 4 (46:35):
Twenty three is a good number because in the most
memorable Cowboys Bears game ever, the Bears scored twenty three points.
You know what game that would be? No, that would
be Halloween nineteen seventy one. That's when the in the Cowboys.
You recall that year they won the Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (46:53):
I don't call it.

Speaker 8 (46:56):
They won the.

Speaker 6 (46:57):
Super Bowl, but I was still trying to find my first.

Speaker 4 (47:02):
Halloween nineteen seventy one in Chicago at Soldier Field, Tom
Landry was undecided who his starting quarterback for this team
would be. That was the great quarterback shuffle. Every single play,
Craig Morton and Rogers Staubach alternated.

Speaker 2 (47:20):
Do you remember it? I do? Of course?

Speaker 4 (47:24):
Who could forget it? Who lived through it? And so
Craig Morton and Roger Staubach shuffled in and the Cowboys
lost that game twenty three to nineteen. The next day,
Tom Landry decided on his starting quarterback. Guess that that
was Roger Stopbach and the Cowboys won ten straight games
and won the Super Bowl.

Speaker 8 (47:44):
And I'm always bitching.

Speaker 4 (47:45):
And who is the star of that Super Bowl? Number
thirty three Dwayne Thomas. Dwayne Thomas scored the first touchdown
on that day, October thirty first, nineteen seventy one. You
look good at number thirty three. Javonte Williams's going to
score the first touchdown on this bill and the Cowboys

(48:06):
get revenge for the quarterback shuffle. I will give it
a tighter than expected victory twenty three to nineteen over the.

Speaker 2 (48:15):
Chicago Declare you think they come and see this game?

Speaker 5 (48:17):
Win one for seventy one to nineteen.

Speaker 4 (48:23):
By the way, the Cowboys had a safety in that game.
Claxton Welch tackled the punter in the end zone for
a safety for the Cowboys in that game. And Gloucester
Richardson scored a touchdown for the Cowboys. But I'm going
at number thirty three Dwayne Thomas. Javonte Williams is the
pick to click.

Speaker 6 (48:43):
You win just from your research.

Speaker 4 (48:47):
That's not research, it's remember what are you saying? Twenty
three nineteen, Dallas Fontay Williams.

Speaker 2 (48:52):
And what is he going to do? I mean going
on hundred.

Speaker 4 (48:54):
They scored the first touchdown of the day, and let's
go for one hundred yards. Yeah, everyone's focused on the
depleted secondary and me being the contrarian, I'll go with
the run game.

Speaker 2 (49:04):
You often, I love it.

Speaker 4 (49:05):
Javonte Okay, all right, that does it? Okay?

Speaker 6 (49:10):
And Missouri's got South Carolina.

Speaker 4 (49:13):
Oh that's a good one.

Speaker 6 (49:14):
It is used guy, I'm getting ready.

Speaker 4 (49:15):
Oh, u's got Auburn and Arnold that Jackson turns to
Norman and ever Sin Grambling's got I have no idea. Okay,
Oh come on, if you know what hecma's got, well,
hecma's got South Lake Carrol versus Uless Trinity. Tonight you're
gonna give me those community notes.

Speaker 5 (49:32):
By the way, please, thank you I've been asking for
from the mayor of South Lake.

Speaker 4 (49:37):
That's right, all right. And by the way, two thousand
and six sixty thousand people watch that Carol Trinity game
in the playoffs at Texas Stadium.

Speaker 2 (49:47):
All Right, we need sixty thousand to night.

Speaker 4 (49:49):
I'll think we're getting that. All right, That does it
for mix Shotts, have a great trip to Chicago, Mickey,
We'll do and most of us will be here to
talk about it.

Speaker 6 (49:59):
At Hot most of them on Monday.

Speaker 8 (50:02):

Speaker 2 (50:04):
