Speaker 2 (00:08):
Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
This is Mick Shots, streaming live on Dallascowboys dot Com
and the official Dallas Cowboys at now Here are Bill Jones,
Heck Maharrison, Everson Walls, and Mickey Spagnola.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Well, good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the
taj Mahal of football. We are here in the SWBC
Mortgage podcast studios, here at the Star in Frisco, home
of your Dallas Cowboys, and you are now rocking then
with the best. I'm Heg Maharrison, and he is a
Super Bowl champion. Mister Everson Walls is in the building.
(00:50):
And the man that the show is so passionately named
after him, passionately passionately this mixed shots. The guy that
still gets stopped in the building to ask the show
is Badge. They they don't know him, they don't know
him around here. He still has to go through TSA.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
I'm just glad that I'm paying attention.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
But guys, I start when I get an opportunity to
start a show, I always like to ask my co
hosts how they're doing how mentally, how are you doing?
How your mind spirit? All of that? Mickey, I'm gonna
start with you. How are you?
Speaker 3 (01:28):
I am great? The best I've been in two and
a half weeks.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
There it is since he heard his wrists, since he
since he took out the trash right in the trash
can fall back. That's what happens. You have things like
that start to happen. Unbelievable story that could only happen
to Mickey. Ever, sit, how are you?
Speaker 4 (01:48):
I'm good, man, I'm consistent, consistent way I feel that
everything's good in my life, you know, and everything's good
when I come here. I'm always on the even kid.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
Best thing is I can type two hands again.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Man, I won't even ask you. I got other questions,
but I'm gonna leave. It is good, absolutely, man, that
is that is so good to hear. So you guys,
did you get the rundown? I got you got the rundown,
and so you probably.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
Personally this time. I don't think you've ever done that before.
Then I said, yeah, you said it to me personally
it's just me and you on here. Well that means
I'm assuming Spags didn't get this then, because this is me,
and you know everybody's here. I got look at that.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
Yeah, well that's different.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
I don't know. I don't know. We'll deal with that later.
We'll deal with that, lady. That's a hold up. That's
a whole of the situation. You need special Yeah, I
don't know. I don't know how that happens. He needs
special attention? Is that what it is to validate himself? Well, look,
I had came in the door validated, mister Wallas. But
I'm gonna get to this rundown because I think it's
very important coming up against a Carolina Panthers team that
(02:56):
I don't know if you guys have got an opportunity
to just kind of look through this Panthers team and
the victory that they had over the Miami Dolphins last Sunday,
which was kind of impressive.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
Inspirational, right, Actually, Ricky Dwdell two hundred yards man.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
That was And that's where I want to start. I
want to start six six twenty three carries, two hundred
and six yards and a touchdown. And Mickey, you've written
stories about rico' dado and obviously know him, well, what
do you think about his emergence as a running back
in the Panthers offense.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
Well, he finally got an opportunity. I mean he's been
playing behind Tuba Hubbard, who was out and by the way,
did not practice again yesterday, So you may have to
buckle up for.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
Right, I think that's a threat.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
Now.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
I always thought he was good. It took Cowboys too
much time last year to figure out that we're going
to lean on this guy. I mean he ended up
rushing for I think it was one thousand and seventy
nine yards, yes, and the majority of those were in
the last maybe third of the season. So yeah, it
doesn't surprise me when he gets an opportunity like that.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
Now.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
He obviously he's never run for two hundred and six yards.
But you know, I always thought he was a good
running back, and I didn't understand last year why it
took him so long to start giving him a bigger opportunity.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
I think it may have been the offensive line. Yeah,
it took him a while to right young people that
were coming up on the line. We had some injuries
last year on the line, right, And they finally, I
think when they finally came together without injuries, what you
saw was the beginning of what we see now offensive
line that was ready to take over that to change
(04:45):
that culture around here from you know, everything's Dak to CD.
Now all of a sudden we have a well round detement.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
Well and maybe also we're trying to compensate for no Dak,
no doubt about it. They had to no doubt about it.
Lean on the run, Yeah, a little bit more no doubt.
Cooper Rush, no doubt. And so I think that that
that led to it. So yeah, better be ready for
him if he's got to go, because I always thought
he was talented here. He just never stayed healthy. He
(05:14):
couldn't stay healthy, and every time he get an opportunity,
it seemed like he got hurt. And then you know,
the early years he's still playing behind Zeke before Zeke
left and then it was Tony Pollard and so but
when he got his opportunity, he made it work. So
good on him.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
I always liked him. I always did like him. I
like what he did for us last year. It's hard
to play well on the team that doesn't play well,
and he did that that that he he was the
best thing that we had last year offensively or defensively,
except for say Michael Parsons and to me, that's how
cotton that is.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
That is and but you know, look Rico Daddle and
with the with the Panthers, and they are a struggling team.
They are two or three too and oh and at
home too, and oh at home, which is big I
think in contrast, and everybody loves to do the compare
and contrast between running backs that were here and the
ones that are here now. Javonte Williams makes you forget
(06:16):
all about that's true godoubt and his ability to pick
up the tough yards. But also the one thing that
I can just do the difference between those two guys,
Javonte Williams finishes runs. I've said that plenty of times
where you just see those devastating runners. Back in your day, Man,
you played with against some guys.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
That William Andrews finisher, Gerald Riggs, John Rigginson finishers.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
You know a guy that it was between you and
the sticks, it was gonna.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
Be you who was at Rogers the Heisman Trophy Rogers.
He knocked me out. He knocked me out at first.
That's the only time I've ever been knocked unconscious in
the game, and that was going up against George Rogers
tried to hit him low because I'm gonna hit all
all big fellows low. Put that knee right into my temple.
Next thing, you know, I'm waking up. You know that
(07:07):
is and that's a game.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
Was he with the was the Saints?
Speaker 4 (07:11):
Then yeah, that's correct, and he was still bringing it,
you know.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
And I just think that's the that's the comparison between
those two guys. But staying with the offense of the Panthers,
I think where you're word after seeing breist Hall last
week and now you're you're heightened sense for the running game,
but you're still there in your past coverage. And they
have they have some receivers that are very serviceable. Tenoroll
(07:36):
McMillan out of Arizona, big body, wide receiver, uh big
catch radius as well, six catches for seventy three yards
against the Miami Dophins didn't have a have a touchdown.
But they also have Xavier Leaguette, who has the best
accent in all of the NFL. I don't know, I
don't know what he's saying half the time. I don't
(07:58):
know what that is. They call it, yeah, geechee, you
know it's from Atlantic yeah, it's it's a little different.
It is a little different. But these guys, again, when
you think about them as wide receivers and what you've
seen from them ever since, and it has been what
we've talked about at LEND about what this dB core
can do the communication. Do you see, uh, this this
(08:21):
wide receiver room for the Panthers being a threat to
the Dallas Cowboy I don't.
Speaker 4 (08:24):
Think it should be. I don't think it should be.
Having said that, I think I looked at some injury
list or something, and you've got Dak and I'm sorry,
you've got Diggs, Digs and Bland. They're doing it. Yeah,
I know. I don't say Diggs and Bland both you know,
limited in practice or whatever. I think they'll of course
(08:45):
be ready for the game. To me, I think we
need to show what we can do defensively. I think
we need to test ourselves in this game. I would
play man to man as much as possible. I really would.
I think our corners, I don't care how healthy they are,
should be better than their receivers. I just truly believe
(09:07):
that our secondary should be better than their passing game.
And that's because everyone's getting a little healthier now we're
playing together. Now we haven't had busted plays like we
had in the first couple of games. That is something
to me, and I know it's a low bar, but
that's an improvement for me, and I think we need
(09:29):
to show ourselves. Don't worry about the rest of the league.
We need to show ourselves that we can play man
to man with these two wonderful corners that we have.
Come on, you got one guy's going breaking records and
returns for touchdowns, one guy tying the dog on franchise
league in interception. These guys are quality. Shut up. These
(09:51):
guys are quality, quality individuals in regards to playing on
the field. I think it's time for them to carry
their own weight.
Speaker 3 (09:59):
Well, Iberflus just got done saying having the guys in
the system for several weeks now and the continuity, and
then he went out of his way to point out
and having two cornerbacks back.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
That was good.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
So he knows that it seems like Bland after his
injury absence and Digs trying to get over his injuries
and not playing football. We're back out there against the Jets,
and they were from the start. They started playing man
defense right now. They got out of it at the
end when they were trying to milk the clock. But
(10:37):
I think that was the step in the right direction
that Iberflus was talking about. Get your guys out there,
get your corners that you rely on, ready to play football,
and it can make a difference.
Speaker 4 (10:49):
And you saw the body language from Trayvon. I just
don't mean that he was alert and had made no
confusion from what I could see. I liked the way
that he was making play. He was around the ball,
he was ready for anything that came his way. And
as a dB, that's that's how you play it.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
It was like before it seemed like he was in
a fall.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
It did so spags, it was lost down there. I'm
going to hook you up to a polygraph machine.
Speaker 4 (11:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
Do you trust Trayvon Diggs and man coverage after what
you've seen from the last game to this game.
Speaker 3 (11:21):
Yeah, I think so. I think more so than I
did when it started the season. It hadn't played any bar.
Yeah that's a low bar, right, I know, But it
got better. Okay, next step, right now, Let's see what
you can do.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
Right.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
And I don't know if playing man helped the pass
rush or the pass rush helped the man. Interesting, right, uh,
and we're about to find out because you saw it once. Now,
can you do this for me?
Speaker 2 (11:50):
I'm hoping.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
I'm hoping it gives the coach eb Flews a chance
to blitz more, because I think he did want to
blitz in the beginning. You know, we made the adjustment
with Diggs in the Philly game, but for overall, he's
been playing zone because I don't obviously, so he didn't
trust the crew that he had out there. I think
(12:12):
he trusts this crew to well, Okay, we got the
veterans in one young guy coming in O the anxiety
something comes in on third downs, but otherwise we've got
a good veteran crew out there that has played together
enough to where we can we can be more solid.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
It was like they were taking on the philosophy bend
but don't break right. Well, they were bending and bringing right.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
Right because you didn't because you didn't have the conners
out there to stop the depend And I think the
safeties were over compensating. You have you did not see
that last game, didn't see it much of the game
before that. Over compensation Now from the from the safeties,
I think it should be in the past. Play you
play your position. Play a position the way you played
(12:58):
it two years ago, three years ago. Donovan, play your
position to where you know you were that guy that
comes up and makes plays instead of the one that's
involved in the broken plays with the veterans out there
with him, I think it makes him feel a little
bit more comfortable as well.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
Well.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
Unfortunately, so Hooker's on injured reserve, right, and suddenly Donovan
Wilson showed up on the practice report as limited.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
Who didn't show up?
Speaker 3 (13:26):
Well, it's like this, come on, not to bury the Yeah,
there's fifteen guys either did not practice five or limited ten, right,
and some of the limited's I think were more limited
than other people though. Jan Ye Thomas, who you were
(13:47):
talking about the safety, he's got an ankle. He's limited,
which means when they put him in limited, you didn't
take all the reps or at least you were out
there to go through individual drills.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
Right.
Speaker 4 (14:00):
If you're talking limited, you got a chance yeah, playing,
you're playing, playing, you're hoping, Yeah, I ain't hoping if
you're limited.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
Last thing, Kneeland was limited and then he didn't play,
and he's limited again. Tyler Geyton. They've got him limited concussion.
He was out there with a helmet on pads. Now
how much he did probably wasn't everything. I don't know
if they're trying to ease him in or if it's
limited limited, if you.
Speaker 4 (14:28):
Know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
What about Booker? Have you heard anything Booker?
Speaker 3 (14:33):
He is listed as out, so I would imagine he's out.
The guy getting close I think would be Tyler Smith,
although I did see Booker doing his rehab and he
was moving pretty well. He and Ceedee Lamb, so that
was encouraging. Cavante Turpin was out of the boot. He said, yeah,
(14:54):
I'm done with it, but I'll probably need next week.
So he's not going to play. Yeah either, uh chance
really and then the other guy that the problem is
with Sanborne you're gonna have he is not going to
make it. Uh So Murray's every Eberflus was talking about
him as he did in the game, taking over middle linebacker,
(15:18):
which has lea file out there, and gave Shamar James,
whom he talked about, an opportunity to get out there,
who was only supposed to be in nickel situations, and
then he ended up playing. You know, fifty snaps. Yeah,
I think seventeen tackles, I think not bad. I would
think he was going to be out there anyway, fight
(15:39):
the intro.
Speaker 4 (15:40):
I think with the with the the few gashes that
we saw, I'm sure there's some type of coordination issue, Yeah,
that they've had to work on. I hope they got
that together.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
Because because he's the green dots, Sanborne was the well
Murray is Murray is Okay, Murray was.
Speaker 3 (15:56):
Doing the green bot even though he wasn't the middle linebacker. Okay,
so no problem for him, and he's played middle linebacker before. Now,
you got to get the other guys up playing the
run better. Although when you were talking about blitzing, you know,
a couple of times they lined up James on the
line of scrimmage said go, I got to.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
Ask you guys about this. And Bryce Young now in
the quarterback for the Panthers in his third season, Okay,
he's vertically challenged, Okay, Mickey, Yeah, all right, he's one
of those. He's on the shorter side, I want to
say five to nine, you know, at cheating at five
to ten, but a shorter.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
Quarterback and so this gets an extra end.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
So when you start talking about the blitz and blitzing
the guy that size. Ever since, what would be your approach,
you know, putting on your defensive coordinator hat for a
guy that's smaller, trying to find those lanes to throw
through because obviously he's not looking over the top of
a defense or past his offensive lineman complete throws.
Speaker 4 (17:01):
It's nothing new in the NFL to once you realize
that you can't make it to the quarterback to raise
your hands. It's nothing new. I think our emphasis and
I don't know why we didn't do this in the
Giants game against Russell Wilson, who's five eight. We've got
to blitz up the middle. Our rush needs to be
concentrated on coming up the middle. I don't know how
(17:24):
good Bryce Young is at running the ball. I have
no idea, But if I'm going to be going against
a quarterback like this who has shown me in accuracy problems, yes,
who has shown me that he can't read the defense
as quickly as you would like him to at this
point in his career, I would take advantage of that.
I would. I would rushed. I would hurry the game
up for him. Against him, I would hurry the game up.
(17:47):
I would do more blitzing. I would send not necessarily
max blitz, but I'm going to send an extra guy
for him, and I'm going to play man to man
and you're going to have to beat my guys. If
you show me that you can beat my guys, then
for that, then you you've done your job.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
Then you you have an alternative. Yes, he's five to ten,
so uh, you know that that first snap that James
took in the Jets game, and I don't know how
tall Justin Fields is. Is he six foot? Maybe he
rushed up the middle and had his hand in his
(18:22):
face and the ball just got over his hand.
Speaker 4 (18:25):
Do you realize how many times we've seen passes ricochet
off of helmets and getting barely tipped and changed the game,
changed the particular game. I think it was the Cardinals
of the Commanders. So let's take advantage of that. We
understand that that's an element, especially with the showt the quarterback.
Let's let's make that thing. Let's make that part of
(18:46):
our success story. We're gonna go in, We're gonna we're
gonna have at least guys three batted balls. I should
you should that should that should be part of your
your game plan.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
Just don't let it bounce off your back and fall
straight down.
Speaker 4 (18:59):
And second, so we've had a lot of that.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
And hit the skycap, a lot of that, all of
that imbout that.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
Yeah, but this is this is a defensive front. I
think this is a matchup that I think your front
should be able to win, uh and win big, especially
against the Carolina offense. That was I mean, I'm telling
you through you watch this game against Miami. For a
quarter and a half, they were in the dirt, yes,
(19:29):
seventeen oh, and then all of a sudden, and I
mean I was saying to myself, Bryce Young is a bus,
Like I was literally, Bryce Young is a bus at
home at home, And next thing you know, he completes
a pass and then everything starts to click, and all
of a sudden, the offense is rolling. They scored ten
points right before the half, and I'm sitting there saying
to myself, what the hell am I watching against Green Bay?
Speaker 4 (19:52):
Right?
Speaker 2 (19:53):
Yes, exactly. I mean it was almost similar to the
momentum swing in that game, and that's how they ended
up pulling out the victor. In the second half. They
just came out and they just all guns are blazing
and pulled out a big time. The crowd really got that,
absolutely absolutely because that home that advantage for them. And
again two and old at home, which is gonna be big.
(20:16):
You've always talked about the crowd taking the crowd out
of it, but I'm gonna take a break. I'm gonna
put a pin in it right here, because when we
come back, we're gonna talk about my favorite subject and
that's four Ray Nicola Prescott coming up next, all mix shots.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
We are in the building in the SWBC Mortgage studios.
Heck Maharrison have some walls Mickey speG Nola and this
game is going to be one of those games that
could be record breaking for Dak Prescott. Dak needs one
hundred and fifty passing yards to pass Troy Aikman for
the second most passing yards enfranchise history. Tony Romo leads
(23:19):
the way with thirty four and eighty three career passing yards,
so one hundred and fifty yards away. Come.
Speaker 3 (23:27):
Well, if he doesn't, they're losing.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
No, no, no, if he doesn't, they're winning, because if
we lose, he's going to get one hundred and fifty.
He's getting fifty If he done, then that means like.
Speaker 2 (23:39):
Man Jan Williams winning crazy, he went for two hundred off.
Speaker 4 (23:42):
We got pick six is coming from the other side. No, no,
If he gets one fifty, that means that he sat
down and chilled for a long time.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
Dak Prescott in this offense is on fire right now,
leading the league in the categories that count, and in
a game versus Carolina said it last week, this is
the win the winnables part of your schedule. I mean,
obviously we've talked about what's coming up and it gets tougher,
but at this point, Dak has this offense clicking offensive
(24:13):
line substitutions that really doesn't even matter who you put
on that off I don't want to say that, but
I just know that you got that offensive line playing
really well. We've given all the flowers to the offensive
line coach, the offensive coordinator, the tighty ends coach to
put all of this together with guys. There is a
string right now that these guys are on as far
(24:34):
as you know, in the air, but I would like
to look to what they're doing on the ground. Vonte
Williams right now is absolutely on a tear in the
NFL amongst running backs. And I don't think anybody thought
that the Cowboys would have upgraded the position the way
that they did going into off season and getting a
(24:56):
player like.
Speaker 3 (24:57):
This, and the price they only paid for it, which
was about two million guaranteed. He got three million total,
got a little bit of a signing bonus, and he's
halfway to a million dollar bonus since they had him
(25:17):
at five hundred thousand for one thousand yards. He's halfway
almost halfway there in five games. And then there was
another five hundred thousand on touchdowns, which he's more than
halfway there. So you know, the interesting thing about that was,
(25:38):
you know how they have the open negotiating period before
free agency really starts. Ric O'Donnell agreed with Carolina on
March twelfth. Free agency started March fourteenth, and then he
signed right the Cowboys signed Williams on March fourteenth, So
it didn't take him long to say, well, they guaranteed
(25:58):
him a little bit more than we wanted to, so
here's what we're going to do. And uh, you know,
they brought in Williams, and you got to give kudos
to the scouting department, the pro scouting department, that they
did their homework on this guy and something must have
gave them some confidence that after two years recovering from
(26:21):
his torn acl that maybe he was back. He tore
it his second year. I had a nine hundred yard
rookie season, and sometimes guys take more than a year
to recover.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
Why does Sean Payton let him? I guess without knowing
what he is, why would.
Speaker 3 (26:40):
I'm trying to remember who they ended up signing or
going with at the running back position, but maybe they
thought this was better and they didn't want to expend
whatever money they needed to keep them and it wasn't much.
I mean three million dollars.
Speaker 4 (26:58):
Do we do moz own blocking somewhat? Yes?
Speaker 3 (27:02):
Yes, I think.
Speaker 4 (27:03):
Javante is a better zone blocking runner then then than
attacking the perimeters, you know, trying to get outside the edge.
I think I think he is built for the way
our blocking scheme works. Uh. I brought up John Riggins earlier.
You know John Riggins was you know, he'll take he'll
(27:23):
go outside the tackle, but he's not a guy that
you're trying to take wide around the outside. So he
was made for that zone blocking that the Hogs were
accustomed to. That was their entire system. I think Javante
is that type of player to where we rather gash
them here than trying to use the speed doing them outside.
He is not a speed guy, and he's perfect for
(27:46):
the way our blocking scheme is here. I think you
have to match the player with the the the scheme,
the blocking scheme that they have.
Speaker 3 (27:55):
He matches personal and id ad met I didn't know
much about him when they signed them. I can't say
I saw him play this or this or whatever. And
then a little bit in the off season workouts and
he was running between the tackles and I'm going, oh,
I didn't expect that, and I didn't realize how strong
(28:18):
he was, because stature wise, he might be five to
ten or so. And then we got to training camp
and I was going, well, they're not tackling, but he's
still running between the tackles and I'm going, well, this
looks pretty good. And I asked the same question, why
did Denver give up on him? Because this looks good?
And then I was like, well, we got to see
(28:39):
him tackle. And then they didn't play in the preseason,
so it was like, Okay, what have they got? And
then we've seen right, four hundred and forty seven yards
in five games. You you factor that out over seventeen games.
If he stays healthy, it's a fifteen hundred yards seventeen
touchdown season.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (28:59):
When you see zone blocking like that, that can be
disheartening to a defensive line.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (29:06):
You know this is no deception. We're not trying to
speed you outside and get tired. We'll come in right face.
And when you stop busting people in the face like
that on the road, it sends a message. And that's
what we need to send it every time we go
on the road. Send a message with power and and
unapologetic brutality. That's that's the way we've been blocking on
(29:30):
our front line. If we can keep doing that all
year long, we're right back to where we were, uh
with with Murray from Oklahoma.
Speaker 3 (29:37):
And he's and he's a really good one cut runner.
He'll get to the line of scrimmage that's at it
and he'll need to take that one cut, dance and
go come with power right and uh and then he's
got the you know, decent speed, but that that able
to get in the hole and not dance around one
(29:57):
cut and go, and.
Speaker 4 (29:58):
That doubt was doing that the bit. Last year he learned.
He learned a lot on how to split it catch
the weakness of Tom Ladder. Tell dor said, when you
go ladder, you make you create softness when they pursue.
So that softness, it's not as if they're like a fence.
Now they have not moved, they're fluid, and you hit
(30:19):
that softness. That's the way Dors said, used to do it.
Dala was trying to do that last year and he
was very successful.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
Now about that and we'aring thirty three at the same time. JK.
Dobbins is the running back that they have for the
Broncos now, okay, and he has four hundred and seven
yards and.
Speaker 4 (30:34):
That's why Javonte is now with us.
Speaker 3 (30:37):
So they probably invested in him.
Speaker 2 (30:39):
Yeah right, So Dobbins Dobbins with the Broncos and so
I mean, hey, they're not missing much for forty seven
for our goy Javonte Williams. But also in the air
in a game like this. JC Horn don't know how
much you know about him as a cornerback, but he
is their star corner for the Panthers. And Mike Williams
(30:59):
out Miami or fifth round pick. Think he was in
twenty twenty one's draft, but jac Horn is their guy.
And so last week we talked about Sauce and whether
he would travel or not. Kind of a similar situations
situation this week with Pickens. Will they travel him? With Pickens?
And I think that is an automatic win for me.
(31:21):
If I look at this matchup with Pickens and Horn.
Speaker 4 (31:23):
I can't think of, especially from what I saw last week,
I can't think of many DBS that can say we're
not winning this matchup. I can't think of I can't
think of any at all in the league right now.
Maybe Ramsey, Yeah, yeah, yeah, right, you know somebody had
some type of dog gaminess that can match that attitude
(31:45):
that Pickens has. Otherwise, anyone that lines up on Pickens,
it's just a matter of do we want to overfeed
him or undefeed him, Do we want to show our
hand too much, or do we want to stay assistant
with our versatility. Otherwise we can go. We can go
to Pickings every day.
Speaker 3 (32:04):
Well, he was pretty funny yesterday. Somebody asked him about
how defense will start concentrating on him, either putting their
best guy there or playing uh double teams, and he said, well,
I don't know. It's just me and I'm paraphrasing. He goes,
but I'm that good. That's what they have to do.
Speaker 4 (32:27):
Like I want that, That's what I wanted. I said
every time this is Deaz, He's dead. I'm that and
I love that because one thing, you know, you're not
gonna outfight Deaz Brian, You're not gonna out fight Pickings.
I worry about with with Pickings is he's so confident
and just believes in himself. When he catches the ball,
(32:50):
it's a little bit careless with it at times. Yeah,
there are times when I saw him even it was
just a play, it was a big play, but the
way that he caught it, it was like several people
were jumping at him, diving at him, and he was
moving around, and I just, you know, just worried that
ball a little too comfortable because of the abilities that
(33:10):
he has. So I understand that that over the reason
for that over confidence. But at the same time, man,
just be careful.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
Bro Ever, since I am guilty of watching too much,
Pittsburgh still is football because my family I have all
of my family is still of fans, right, I have
been watching. It's okay, I feel But I'm just saying everybody,
everybody in my family is still and it sucks, but
it's okay. It's okay. Though I love you even more
(33:38):
than they black sheep of the family. We got to
carry the mantle. Here's a deal. I know. I don't
think Cowboy fans realize how much of a dog this
young man is. Number fourteen for the Pittsburgh still was crazy.
It's good he's wearing three. He almost looks like an
entirely different player than what he looked like when he
was wearing number fourteen. But man, this is one of
(34:01):
those players that has been a quarterback away, like scary
Terterian Washington. He was a quarterback away from showing the
world what he has and now you're getting an opportunity
to see that. I don't know what the thought process
was behind that move getting him out. Mean, DK metcalf
right now ripping it, But could you imagine DK and
(34:22):
him to like, I just look at that as a mistake,
and I also look at the way that defenses are
playing pickings right now. You saw it against the Jets.
Even though they put sauce in those man the man,
they did also bracket him at times going into the
game versus Philly. You look at the ALL twenty two,
Philly was double teaming George and leaving CD in which
(34:45):
I thought like, wait a minute, Like, you know, you,
being a former cornerback, you understand if a team comes
in and they're saying, oh, we're gonna double this guy,
then that tells you everything that you need to know
about what they think about him as a player. So
and the.
Speaker 4 (35:00):
Jets know about him, you know, the Jets knew about him,
they remember it. But it still didn't help. And that's
why I was looking forward to that matchup. I talked
about it last week, looking forward to that matchup because
they know they think they know Pickens, and Pickings was
fired up to go against Sauce and he did what
he was supposed to do.
Speaker 3 (35:18):
Yeah, and it was two catches, but it was two
big catches, fourteen yards. Let's land on third down.
Speaker 4 (35:24):
That There's there's one reason I think that Pickens is
not going to be a detriment to us, because Dak
does not believe in not anymore forcing things. We forced
it too many times to CD, and it bit us
in the butt against the Packers because they were playing
that sometimes you just have to be smarter. They're smart too.
(35:47):
On the other side, defensively, I think us having other
options has opened it up for pickings.
Speaker 3 (35:53):
Well trusting right, because that's at least one because he
ended up getting single cover.
Speaker 4 (36:00):
Yeah, you know, and and everybody's fine with that. Or
even I kept complaining about the Giants game, Joseph Dak
stopped looking for CD and pickings he went for He
went Joseph four I believe, four consecutive times when we
were behind on the drive that we needed and he
went at him four separate time consecutive times. So that
(36:21):
keeps the defense honest, and I think we need to
continue to do that. I believe that's why Dak I talked,
I laugh all the time about Dak's gonna make you
catch it. He's gonna make you catch it, so you
bet he's gonna throw it to you, so you gotta
catch it. And I think there's a method to that,
because you want to make sure that your your big
guys can eat when it's time. And I think it
(36:43):
opens it up here for him.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
Outside Floydnoy, For you, Mickey, are you is he your
third wide receiver?
Speaker 3 (36:52):
Yes, yes, absolutely, he's your guy. I think that his
his size, with the speed and just his thought process bounced.
Speaker 4 (37:06):
He got bounce man. Yeah, he got bounced.
Speaker 3 (37:08):
And he showed it a little last year when he
got opportunities, but he didn't get that much. Uh. He
was having a great training camp.
Speaker 4 (37:16):
He said that.
Speaker 3 (37:16):
Yeah, he said that, and and so that built trust
for Troy, I mean Troy forever dak Right. Yeah, I
was thinking, I just because I was getting I was
getting ready to point out when we were talking about
who you double and who you single. And I've said
this all the time. In that ninety four NFC title game, uh,
(37:38):
San Francisco came out and said we're gonna take uh,
take Dion, and we're going to take away Harper and
and and then we're going to single Michael. And that
didn't work right, And so then the second half they
(37:58):
came out and it's like, well, you got Michael, will
double the other guy, and Dion couldn't cover Michael e
uh So sometimes that's what you think. You go, all right,
if I have somebody that can take out that guy,
uh in with double and then I'll take Sanders and
he'll eliminate Melvin Harper.
Speaker 2 (38:17):
Bill Jones has made it back. Hi, Hi, Bill, how
are you?
Speaker 4 (38:21):
I'm doing well? Well? Are we in the last segment?
Speaker 2 (38:25):
No, we're in at the end of We're at the
end of this second and we're talking, and we're talking
about my favorite subject. But what we're gonna do is
we're gonna take a break.
Speaker 8 (38:35):
We're talking sexy high school football.
Speaker 4 (38:38):
You better believe it, Bill Jones.
Speaker 2 (38:42):
This guy's good man, I'll tell you. But hey, well,
we're gonna take We're gonna take a break, and we've
gotta give the keys back to Bill Jones and let
him drive the bus. I love this guy. Coming up
next y mixed shots.
Speaker 6 (38:54):

Okay, it's segment three of Mixed Shots, which tells me
that we must be talking about Dak and the offense
should feast right, Well, we.
Speaker 2 (41:28):
Already did that, I think.
Speaker 8 (41:29):
Oh I think we got to the feast rundown segment.
Speaker 2 (41:31):
Now I know, I know, I know we didn't do
we ever go according to.
Speaker 4 (41:36):
That's on him this time. He changed this time because
he had to talk about sometimes.
Speaker 2 (41:43):
Ranged the cold or the Coda Rain rained, the Kota rained.
Speaker 4 (41:46):
So his first name is Rain.
Speaker 8 (41:48):
Yes, yeah, okay, you you need to bring me up
to speed on what we talked about.
Speaker 3 (41:52):
In your absence, don't earn anything you need to share
with no, no.
Speaker 4 (41:58):
Once we're talking mad. Yeah, he's covered with nothing.
Speaker 2 (42:02):
So we talked about Rapunzel already, which is freak odable.
Speaker 4 (42:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (42:06):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (42:06):
And we've already talked about that, Rice Young and his
lack of height.
Speaker 2 (42:10):
Man, where are subjects? I've talked about everything? Can you imagine?
I covered everything already?
Speaker 3 (42:15):
And we even got into some of the injuries. Yeah,
not all fifteen.
Speaker 8 (42:20):
But what it's the longest injury report you've ever seen?
Close there the guys, you know, Belichick used to but
he would do it just to Yeah, he'll get mad.
Speaker 3 (42:31):
That's the league, and he'd like put everybody on the roster.
Speaker 2 (42:34):
Are we kind of what's firing on that right now?
Speaker 4 (42:37):
The injury room? Maybe? Maybe? Uh.
Speaker 8 (42:39):
And by the way, you know, I like to go
behind enemy lines and listen to in this case, Charlotte
Sports Radio this week to try to figure out what
they're talking about about the Carolina Panthers. Well, I ain't
talking about the Carolina Panthers. They're talking about Belichick.
Speaker 3 (42:55):
Oh yeah, yeah, because they ended or they're ending the
documentary thing that they want film that.
Speaker 8 (43:00):
No, I think it has more to do with the
fact that North Carolina is not.
Speaker 2 (43:03):
A very good football.
Speaker 3 (43:03):
Well, that's why they're the documentary.
Speaker 2 (43:07):
You can't have a document documentary showing how bad this
team is performing, hey man.
Speaker 4 (43:13):
But if that's what the subject ends up being, that's
what it ends up being.
Speaker 3 (43:17):
That's the documentary, right.
Speaker 2 (43:19):
I don't think they were expecting that.
Speaker 8 (43:21):
That's even better than games.
Speaker 4 (43:24):
You can turn this into a two years, two part thing.
Speaker 3 (43:26):
I mean, you wanted reality, you got reality, got.
Speaker 2 (43:29):
It, It's a whole another ball.
Speaker 4 (43:31):
We also talk about how we got this confidence in
our secondary now, feeling better about playing man to man,
no more that zone crap. I'm thinking that with our
veteran corners, with Bland and Digg's back, I'm thinking that
my boy Donovan Wilson is gonna get back to where
he's to be. My boy, my boy. I mean he
(43:55):
does when when I when I when our corners are
playing well, then they freezing up. It does free him
up a lot to come down and do what he's
got to do. I don't trust him deep I feel
real good about right, it's immediate now.
Speaker 3 (44:08):
If he can't go, that's right, what's up with him?
He's limited with an ankle, I would imagine mar A dnp. No,
he was limited, okay, but he finished the game, Yes
he did. He'll be so Marquis Bell's gotta be ready
to go.
Speaker 8 (44:24):
And that's why I assigned him to a contract.
Speaker 3 (44:25):
And they used him a little. They started a little
in the Nickel type thing with a two tight end.
But then when Schamar James said, well, no, I'm here
and with his speed, he just as he said, I
get to do better with my drops in coverage. But
seventeen tackles is seventeen tackles.
Speaker 4 (44:47):
Yeah, So if you're talking to two tight ends, which
we could be going against a lot these days, especially
with our corners, you seem.
Speaker 8 (44:54):
To be Batavian Sanders, former Texas Longhorn did not play
last week for Carolina that he's hoping to get.
Speaker 2 (45:00):
Back, didn't run ryan high.
Speaker 3 (45:03):
They've got him listed as limited.
Speaker 4 (45:05):
J T.
Speaker 8 (45:05):
Sanders number zero. Those Longhorns light wearing number zero from
de Marveo, Matthew Golden's number zero.
Speaker 3 (45:14):
Caleb Evans cornerback out or he did not practice?
Speaker 4 (45:19):
Could you could you imagine what kind of freedom that
gives our cornerbacks though? What kind of freedom our cornerbacks
gives our play calling. Now our safeties can be more diverse.
We can use them in other areas as long as
we have confidence in these matchups outside right, it just
makes us a little bit more versatile.
Speaker 2 (45:36):
McMillan, what do you what is your thoughts on McMillan.
Speaker 4 (45:39):
Oh, he's good.
Speaker 8 (45:41):
Yeah, I mean, you know, he's he is a rookie,
but you know he's he's going to have a very
nice career in this league. And but if as ever
since says those corners getting back healthy again, you know,
and you know the I think the biggest key last
week against the Jets is coverage was good and fields
(46:04):
didn't get rid of the ball quickly, and so a
four man, yeah, four men rush was able to get
to him. And I like what ebra Flus did some
of the stunts and stuff up front to free up
James Houston.
Speaker 2 (46:15):
And that was the.
Speaker 8 (46:15):
Focus that Schottenheimer focused on James Houston this week.
Speaker 2 (46:20):
What about Bryce Young? We talked about him as well,
and just him at this point, I was saying, for
through two years he looked like a bust, but then
this year he's coming along, and especially in that Miami game,
it looked like he was dead in the water. And
then all of a sudden, at the end of the
middle of the second quarter, something happened.
Speaker 8 (46:38):
Ye comes on and comes back from seventeen nothing down.
And that's what Schottenneimer said too. And any quarterback they
can rally a team from a seventeen nothing deficit. He's
figuring out some stuff and he's settling into his system
now at Canalis, you know, and Canallis was with Pete
Carroll for years, and of course Shottenneimer, he was his
quarterbacks coach. When Shottenneimer is the offensive courd. And so
(47:01):
the big point that Schottenheimer makes on it is they
will they want to run the football. And h one
thing I did get out of Charlotte Radio this morning
about Rico dowdell is a week ago, they were all
questioning whether that was a good signing or not there
because he was underperformed in the first four games, and
then all of a sudden he gets an opportunity and
(47:22):
goes for two o six and now they're raven about
they love them. Yeah, that's right, which is kind of
what we do here is okay, yeah, yeah, we don't know,
how are we going to we're never going to get
to the quarterback and we get five sacks. Oh maybe
there there's a love of them. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (47:36):
Well his two o six dottle gets him to two
eighty nine for the season. For the season, so yeah,
he wasn't doing very much, you know. And the other
thing I saw.
Speaker 4 (47:48):
On that was, now this is the Dolphins.
Speaker 3 (47:51):
For Bryce Young, that had to be one of his
best games because he completed nineteen or thirty passes, but
for the season, he's only completed six point nine percent
of his passes and he's only averaging five point five
yards in a temp So this had to be one
of his better games.
Speaker 4 (48:09):
And like I said, let's look at this as the
Miami defense giving them the opportunities. Yeah, that's the way
I want to look at it. I don't want to
go into a game thinking, you know, we're gonna play
like Miami's defense. Our defense has to play better than
Miami's defense.
Speaker 2 (48:24):
Period.
Speaker 4 (48:24):
You win the game if you do that.
Speaker 3 (48:25):
And he hasn't run that much. Thirteen carries for fifty
two yards, but he's got a but to get to
fifty two. He has a long of twenty two. So Young, Yeah,
so I don't know. I'm not worried about him, right,
y'all don't know, but you got to have a spy
or not. Just get pressure on him.
Speaker 4 (48:45):
Just come up to the middle least five to ten.
Let's just get your hands up the middle. Get your
hands up. God, we talked about before you got here.
They've been balls flying off of helmets and that's been
happening in every good game I've seen turned around because
of some swat.
Speaker 3 (49:02):
It's clowny time, you know, him coming up.
Speaker 8 (49:05):
In fact, that's the thing with with Bryce. You know,
you don't have to get your hands up, just get
your helmet up.
Speaker 4 (49:12):
Like that. Well that happened several times already in the head.
All right, we got get you up.
Speaker 8 (49:19):
We got football to watch tonight, Yes, Eagles Giants tonight.
Speaker 4 (49:23):
Nicey in New York? Yep, nice Yep?
Speaker 2 (49:28):
Can can there be a tie ball game?
Speaker 4 (49:30):
I can see that.
Speaker 8 (49:32):
The Landon Dickerson is not playing for the Eagles. Their
offensive line and what it has been.
Speaker 4 (49:38):
That front line for the Giants can do.
Speaker 3 (49:40):
And the game should be covered better than the Jets
game because that was somewhat of an empty press box,
was it? I think everybody was in Toronto for baseball.
Right now, the game, the baseball is over. Yankees are out.
Speaker 4 (49:53):
It's a game, Yes, nobody's coming. Yeah, it's a new game.
Speaker 8 (49:59):
Is okay, We're out of time, all right, all right,
let's do it again on a fabulous fight song football.
Maybe we can hear boomers sooner at the beginning of
the show, we're not doing that.
Speaker 4 (50:15):
Go Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (50:20):
This has been a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
