Speaker 1 (00:04):
The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Cowboys. This is Mick.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Shot streaming live on Dallascowboys dot Com and the official
Dallas Cowboys At now here are Bill Jones, heckm Harrison,
Everson Walls, and Mickey Spagnola.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
And it is a back to back, back back to work,
back to back, back to Bay work Wednesday. Here right
in the sb BC podcast studio, Heck Ma Harrison says,
come on in, it's time for mix shots, Bill Jones,
Everson Wallas, Heck Morrison, and Mickey Spagnola. Not only has
his legal pad filled up, he's got game notes from

(00:55):
both Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago Bears. As we turn
our attention to Mickey's hometown team, the Chicago Bears, the
team he did not grow up rooting.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
I don't believe that. He didn't believe you didn't grow
up a Bears fan.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
No, he was a Packers fand.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
That explains everything.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
Cheering the Packers on bandwagon of course whatever. When he
grew up, the Packers were what.

Speaker 4 (01:24):
I'm winning five NFL champions That was easy, right. My
friends had nothing to say to me.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
That's what you call contrary, is that?

Speaker 4 (01:34):
What?

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Yeah? Now you're always going to this whole life.

Speaker 4 (01:40):
You want to you want to know why. So my
dad was a big white Sox fan and on the
South Chicago. Yeah, and the Chicago Cardinals played at Comiskey Park,
so he was a fan of the Cardinals.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
And then they Cardinals were a football team.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
But yes, yes, and they move thank you for that.

Speaker 4 (02:01):
Yeah, they moved to Saint Louis. And my dad blamed
Hart Hallis from chasing him out of Chicago. So he
hated the Bears. And then they had this Italian guy
coaching the Packers, and it's like, okay, we're kind of clannish. Yeah, yeah,
you got to pull for the Italian guy, black folks,

(02:21):
and we became Packer the best.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
Well on this Wednesday. On this Wednesday, by the way,
there are football players on the football field. But it's
a different work schedule than normal for this team.

Speaker 4 (02:37):
It's a walk through. And when we.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
Kicked off, he is ticked off about that walking on Wednesday.

Speaker 5 (02:47):
This should be passed double because I fought for this,
but damn, that's what you pick.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
I wish I was able to, you know, to enjoy
some of that, you know, to participate. It's about the
next it's about the next gen. It is, man, you
know what. You're welcome, Dammit, you are welcome.

Speaker 4 (03:03):
We initially walked out there and I thought it was
a media walkthrough because there was nobody on the field
except the rehab guys and the special teams kickers and
snappers and holders, and that was it.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
This is week three of the season. I know, why
are we doing walkthroughs on a Wednesday.

Speaker 4 (03:20):
That'll have to be a question to shot and you
know the answer, tell me.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
It's because they played seventy minutes on Sunday, not sixty minutes.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
Get off the feet.

Speaker 3 (03:31):
Guarantee you The answer is they basically played a five.

Speaker 6 (03:36):
If you go one drive into the overtime overtime, then
that's one thing. But they played the entire they did play.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
They played the entire ten minute overtime period. And I
guarantee you that is what that question will be posts
and that will be the answer.

Speaker 6 (03:51):
And when you talk about the lack of participation in
China camp in the preseason games, you know, then you
come out game one, you know Game two, you're like, who, man,
these guys need to count.

Speaker 4 (04:03):
So they ended up guys that played every snap in
the game, ended up playing eighty nine snaps like an offense. Offense, Yeah,
that's like a game and a half.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Yeah, but they were indoors.

Speaker 5 (04:17):
Well yeah, give me, give me Texas Stadium, sixtys state.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
But in September, the defense only played sixty seven snaps.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
And you know why because they got off the field.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
They got off the field fast. All those bombs, those
long bomb touchdowns.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
See that's the strategy. D you keep ds. That's all
right again.

Speaker 4 (04:46):
Subsequent the DB's were tired because they were chasing from
behind with.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
Only one time. They only to do one spread one time.
One spread. Yeah, you go down a lot of Blowe covers.
You got to get speaking of can we can we segue?
What do you got? Can the bears? You want to
talking about the bears? Nothing else to the to the run?

(05:11):
To the rundown? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (05:13):
What you got on the rundown?

Speaker 2 (05:14):
There? I looked at it. Offensive line.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
I was the only one who liked the rundown.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
That's okay, Bill, I appreciate that, Bill, I really do
you know. It means a lot to me. Just Bill
Jos liked it.

Speaker 6 (05:28):
Wow, Yes, how about that I have knowledge of the rundown.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
I just didn't thank you they have that.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
Yes, Okay, before we get to the rundown, because your
rundown has we're talking protection coverage issues could cost the Cowboys. Yes,
right off the top, though, I think we need to
address this, okay. And I looked at the game notes
just to confirm. The Cowboys are playing at three twenty
five on Sunday afternoon against the Chicago Bears and a

(06:00):
soldier field. And it's on Fox, and it's the A team.
It's Kevin Burkhart and Tom Brady calling the game. Yes,
if you look at the Cowboys schedule this season, who
is on the Cowboys schedule this season from the AFC
West The Raiders. The Raiders are on the schedule.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Okay, oh low it so you think he's.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
A free game, Okay, every network broadcaster gets an opportunity
to talk with the coaches, and whoever not talking to him, well,
that's that's that's what I'm posing out Oka Schottenheimer and
everyone else, whoever, you know, defensive courber. I'm sure they'll
talk to abra Flus because he's going back to Chicago.

(06:47):
What how do the Cowboys handle their meeting with Tom
Brady knowing that they're playing the Raiders later this season.

Speaker 4 (06:56):
Thought, I thought he was not allowed to do those,
but before the.

Speaker 6 (07:00):
Game, well it wasn't just that, the fact that he
was in the booth alone, I.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
Think, and on the Monday night game, yeah, caught, he's
not only he's in there in the coaches booth. Yea
with the head set.

Speaker 4 (07:15):
On NFL said it was okay, Yeah, that that that's
all good.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
Well, you got to resist the temptation to tell Tom
Brady everything, and.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
You basically have to resist the temptation to tell Kevin
Burkhardt anything.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
Too true because he going all those notes.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
Basically, anybody on the you got to zip your lip, right.

Speaker 4 (07:34):
I thought he wasn't being allowed into the facilities, but.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
He still has access to information.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
They have their their meetings, yeah, for the games and stuff.

Speaker 7 (07:44):
And that.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
Very carefully. I'm sure it's a very delicate dance. And
you know, but this has.

Speaker 6 (07:52):
To be worked out between the networks, right, I mean,
because he's working with the network now, right, he's not
just in a part on but he's also working with
the network.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
So how much information can be divulged.

Speaker 6 (08:06):
Doing the game, before the game, leading up to the game,
leading up to your game versus the Cowboy.

Speaker 3 (08:11):
But I just think that any team that has the
Raiders on their schedule this season, you can't reveal anything.
But usually those meetings, okay, and they're usually done like
zoom zoom conference.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
Call or whatever.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
All right, Usually those meetings there's a lot of off
the record stuff that's said in those meetings. Yeah, and
it's a given because of the networks, the broadcasters, they're
working with the teams all season long, and it's just
a given that Okay, this is off the record. I
can't use this, but that's great background information whatever. Okay,

(08:49):
you can't reveal anything to them.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
Yeah, and I'm sure they're given backstories, you know, injuries,
things like that, and all of that's on you know,
own or off the record. So Tom goes into a
room whether he expected.

Speaker 4 (09:01):
Well, he can't. It says here Brady can participate in
virtual pregame production meetings with coaches, but is prohibited but
tending them in person.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
No, I'm not saying about them. I'm not saying about
going to practice. I'm talking about the zoom meetings, the
virtual meetings that he can be a part of right
and will be a part of You cannot as a coach,
you cannot reveal anything.

Speaker 4 (09:25):
Well you can't, But he can't go watch practice.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
No, he shouldn't be involved to be on the virtual
meetings as well. That's right because information once again is
being shared.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
Well, he can you where as it's usually a common
practice that it's a lot of that it's off the
record unless the coach says, okay, you can use this.
You basically everything's just got it. You just gotta so
I can.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
So I can't go to the meeting, but I can.

Speaker 4 (09:50):
Well, what prevents what present prevents Everson from saying, hey Tom,
this is what they say.

Speaker 3 (09:57):
Right, and and that's what I'm saying is you can't
even tell having Burkhart stuff, Olga, Well, coach says this
about this player or whatever.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
Because it's going to be on your spot on board,
I mean, all your notes on your spotboard, whether a
guy's nursing the injury, you know, scheme or if we're
looking for this, you ask that question, is there something
special you know whatever, like a special play? Are we
going to be any surprise plays, any punt? You know?

Speaker 3 (10:20):
We really like this player exactly this guy right here,
he's got a great future, you know.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
So now I can't share any of that with Tom,
but I was gonna say, if you saw the Raiders
the other day, it may not even matter. Tell him.
He can tell him everything. Although Max Crosby looks he's
still Max Crosby, so defensively.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
I do wonder how long Brady will do this broadcasting part.
I mean, if he's already getting that involved in the
ownership and the coaching and all that stuff, I would
think that in as competitive as he is, just by nature,
I would think that he's going to be pulled in
that direction if he's got if he's going to dive in,
because main thing that would keep Everson, you can speak

(11:02):
to this, The main thing that would keep you or
anyone else who's a former player into it is the
amount of time and hours that you got to put
into coaching. Yeah, but if he's if he's of a
mind to go into that one out of money is good.
So if he's of a mind to spend that kind
of time on it, then he's going to go that direction.

(11:22):
I mean, Jerry would love to be a podcaster, right, Okay,
but what is Jerry Broadcast.

Speaker 4 (11:32):
Jerry, some of these guys I hear on Saturday doing
college football.

Speaker 8 (11:39):
He could do it, but he won't. No, no, no,
What I mean is he won't stick to the plan. Yeah,
he won't stick to the game plan. He'll he'll go
off on his own. But that is a that is
not what you want. That is a dream. Think about
Tom Brady as what he's accomplished on the field where
he is right now. That's got to be a dream
job in life.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
You know, you're owner of a team in one the aspect,
and then you get to travel all over the world
calling the game that you love. So I mean, that's
the conflict of interest. It is conflict.

Speaker 6 (12:08):
It is period, period, And let's nip this in the
butt right now, because somebody else is going to follow.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
He won't. He won't be the last one.

Speaker 4 (12:17):
And then we'll talk about it in a month and
a half exactly again.

Speaker 2 (12:23):
So you're going, hey, are you going back to Chicago?
You're going back on Saturday on Saturday. Okay, this guy
gave us a recommendation for a bar. You gotta go
to this bar that you was it? Billy goat Billy. Yeah,
the Billy Goat Billy goat tavern.

Speaker 4 (12:38):
Yes, oh man, Yes, incredible, it's incredible.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
You've been. That sounds like.

Speaker 4 (12:46):
It's in the underground of Chicago. They have streets underneath
the city and the bar is down there. You gotta
go downstairs.

Speaker 2 (12:53):
So we're trying to use GPS to find this bar
and we're standing up top of this like we're standing
on the bar right now. We're in the bar, but
we're standing outside. We literally had no clue here, but
we went underneath, went under like you said, it's underneath,
and it's like this long dark road and I tell
my wife, I'm like, look, I'm not walking down there.

(13:13):
I'm from Oak Cliff, Texas. I know not. It's it's beautiful.

Speaker 4 (13:19):
It's a tribute to the newspaper business in Chicago too.
They got all the old pages up there, all the
old writers, and that's where they did the Saturday night skip.
When you go in and order a hamburger and you
say on you want to coke and no coke PEPSI
I'll take some French fries, no frenchise, chipsips and it

(13:42):
really happens. It really happens to you, because I was
in there when people would go in and know the difference. Right,
it's a great institution.

Speaker 3 (13:51):
Billy go you go on Saturday night.

Speaker 4 (13:54):
I think we're close enough to.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
Yeah, gotta go to bits. We had a great time.
I did.

Speaker 4 (14:00):
And the Billy Goat thing was the old Cubs jinx
thing about the Billy Goat. They wouldn't let the Billy
Goat in the stadium and the guy that owned the
Billy Goat cursed the Cubs, like for one hundred years,
you're not going to win a World Series, right, so
they named the tavern the Billy Goat. So the curse, well,

(14:20):
it finally got broken in twenty sixteen.

Speaker 3 (14:23):
Okay, one more minute here, yes, or the end of
this segment, and they were going to go about the
protection and coverage issues. But if you listened to us yesterday,
right off the top, we talked about the fact what
is Connor Riley and Clayton Adams's biggest concern as this
week started with Cooper BB going down with an injury,

(14:43):
and we talked about who besides Brock Hoffman on this
roster could play center and if Hoffman comes goes down
with an injury and TJ Bass we saw him in
the preseason, and Trevor Keegan is the other guy that
they picked up from the Eagles, and so what have
they now done.

Speaker 4 (15:02):
They signed the Wesley French to the practice squad.

Speaker 3 (15:07):
And he played center, started three games for Chicago the
Indianapolis Colts where Clinton Clayton Adams. Clayton Adams was in Indianapolis,
and so there's if you connect the dots, there's a history.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
I was only say Chicago because teams always do that
when you have.

Speaker 3 (15:25):
Read me to something else real quick here. But okay,
he just served it right up to me, served it
right up to me. So anyway, there is a center
now who has started games at center in this league
two years ago for Indianapolis. Okay, Wesley French is his name.
He's on the practice squad. He missed last year because
had an ankle injury. He had seven years of college

(15:48):
at Western Michigan.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
Uh kind of got it.

Speaker 4 (15:51):
Was so good.

Speaker 3 (15:54):
Okay, you talk about teams that sign players in preparation
for the team they're playing. This week, I thought it
was hilarious that the Detroit Lions signed Melik Cunningham to
their practice squad this week. Elik Cunningham was with the
Ravens in the last several years, he's been a practice

(16:16):
squad guy. But Malik Cunningham was at Louisville, played quarterback
at Louisville when he was a freshman, Lamar Jackson's last
year at Louisville whatever, he basically has the same. He
ran for over a thousand yards and passed for however
many yards at Louisville two and so, what Dan Campbell
has done is they're signing Malik Cunningham for this week

(16:39):
to play Lamar Jackson in practice because they are playing
the Baltimore Ravens on Monday nights.

Speaker 2 (16:45):
It is going to be a good game, psychological warfare.

Speaker 4 (16:49):
No, it gives him a guy that probably looks like
Lamar jin and he.

Speaker 3 (16:53):
Was in camp with the Ravens too, so they can
pick his brain on stuff. Whatever.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
But so what.

Speaker 3 (17:00):
And he's in the third year in the league, so
he qualifies for the max practice squad salary, which is
twenty five thousand dollars a week. So what the Lions
have done they're paying him twenty five thousand dollars to
come in for two practices basically intel two practices this
week to play Lamar Jackson in sweet gig. So I

(17:20):
was sitting there looking at it.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
You gotta go.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
So but if I'm Elite Cunningham's agent, Okay, I'm looking
at the Ravens schedule and they play Kansas City next ye,
I am on the horny, Hey, I got a guy.

Speaker 2 (17:34):
It works out.

Speaker 3 (17:35):
So I look at the Ravee schedule.

Speaker 2 (17:38):
This would be.

Speaker 3 (17:39):
Elik Cunningham's job for the entire season. He just goes
from team to team, whoever the Ravens are playing this week.
I get signed by and you make twenty five thousand
dollars a week, and it's four hundred thousand dollars by
the end of the season. There you go.

Speaker 4 (17:54):
Lamar Jackson whispered, But you got to keep putting him
on the practice squad, that's.

Speaker 3 (18:00):
Right, and then you release him. He just he just
basically goes in middle of the week, honey, I got
I'm going on the trail, okay, And he just stays
in a hotel for two days. They practice Wednesday Thursday basically,
and then he comes home for the weekend.

Speaker 5 (18:13):
He's coming with him. Yeah, depending on the we can travel,
yeah the city, not going to.

Speaker 3 (18:19):
Detroit, all right. We go to the Rundown when we
come back on this shot.

Can I share what you just asked about number fifty
five for the Jats?

Speaker 2 (21:05):
Yes? What did you do? I want to know if
A Hudson was still on the ten.

Speaker 3 (21:09):
Fifty five is still on the Giants. Yes, he's not
been cut. No, but his name is James Hudson, Okay,
and so on Sunday, I'm watching the game actually from home,
and I have five grandsons, but two of them are
came over to the house, James and Hudson. I said
to my wife Stacey, take them outside.

Speaker 2 (21:30):
I can't watch this.

Speaker 4 (21:33):
Did they break anything?

Speaker 2 (21:36):
Man?

Speaker 3 (21:37):
They were on perfect behavior, all right. By the way,
before you go there, there they go, clown.

Speaker 4 (21:45):
He's on the field practicing.

Speaker 3 (21:47):
In ever since. He wore twenty four last year for
Carolina and this year this year.

Speaker 2 (21:52):
That does not look right. He's too big for that.

Speaker 4 (21:54):
This year he's wearing forty two switched Okay, still changed it.

Speaker 2 (22:01):
Just give me some sacks, bro, give me the pressure.

Speaker 4 (22:04):
He might be three times as big as the former
forty two.

Speaker 3 (22:08):
Yeah, who's now with the Denver Broncos practice got picked.
Vaughan is with the Broncos at least he was last week.

Speaker 2 (22:15):
Three times. It's big.

Speaker 6 (22:16):
Yeahonder why he was saying three times, like oh yeah, okay.
I want to know how many pressures and hits the
Dak Prescott have in.

Speaker 2 (22:28):
This last game.

Speaker 3 (22:29):
Well, I could tell you.

Speaker 6 (22:30):
Because I have a note here that it assumes that
the offensive line is letting Dak get hit too many times,
and it's a red flag. So the author of this information,
I want to see if he knows what the hell
he's talking about.

Speaker 4 (22:48):
Sack three times, hit six times last week. But yeah
and so, but but you got to add in three
runs because he's not running on a quarterback draw, so
that you can add three more pressures or hits there,
plushed out, rushed out. They should have that as a stat.

Speaker 6 (23:09):
So your your your information has been upheld. Yeah, thank you.
You know the fact check.

Speaker 2 (23:14):
You know tackles Man didn't play well and obviously we
got with those hits. Came the personal files too, he
had a couple of those. So I think we know
how important Dok is to the season and how we
have to keep him up right. But Terren still is
struggling right now, and when nobody's bringing that up. You know,
I think in the run game, he's he's he's had,

(23:34):
he's been solid. But pass protection, you know, you get
a guy bull rush you back into the quarterback the
way that they did on Sunday, that's not good. And
I think we've been giving him the benefit of the
dowt with the knee injury. Uh, he's a couple of
years removed from that, so you got to see you
got to see better from him. Also with Guiton. You know,
there's it's not clean by any stretch, but it's just

(23:56):
too much. It's it's as important Dak is right now.
It would seem to me like that would be foremost
in the heads of this offensive the offensive line coach.

Speaker 6 (24:08):
If I have a quarterback playing this well, I certainly
want to make sure that he's going to be at
his best and I'm going to protect him as best
I can.

Speaker 4 (24:17):
So you got some idea.

Speaker 2 (24:19):
I don't have any idea, but I was going to
ask you guys.

Speaker 5 (24:22):
I mean, we talked who you are well, we talked
about how good this defensive line was for the Giants,
and they were Did we talk about it I mean,
so is this something that we should be alarmed about?
Or is that what comes with playing against that New
York Giants front line? Because the commanders well and was
able to score twenty. I mean that's considering how much

(24:46):
Russell was in the red zone by eight times in
the red zone.

Speaker 2 (24:51):
You know that.

Speaker 6 (24:52):
Let you know that that that defensive line had a
lot of work to do. There had a lot of
work to do, and they did good work considering the
lack of assistance that they got from their offense in
Russell will So.

Speaker 4 (25:04):
What you're saying Russell Wilson didn't look the same and that.

Speaker 9 (25:06):
He did.

Speaker 2 (25:08):
Not he did not.

Speaker 6 (25:10):
So I just want to make sure that, uh, you know,
concerns aside was is that something that is inherent playing
against that New York Giants seven that's all the mask?

Speaker 4 (25:22):
Well we're about to find out. But they did score
forty points.

Speaker 2 (25:27):
They did score forty points.

Speaker 6 (25:30):
So how concerned should these these these words be taken?
Is that is that what just goes along with playing
with the Giant?

Speaker 4 (25:38):
Well, that's nothing new on Steel, That's always been his
m O. Good against the run and susceptible against the
past or pass blocking. I should say and that that
hasn't changed and it didn't matter if it was the
knee injury or whatever. You know, his reputation was he
was good against the run and or with the run

(25:59):
and not so good pass plot.

Speaker 6 (26:01):
What is the reputation of the Chicago Bears defensive front.

Speaker 3 (26:05):
Four Montes Sweat is their big guy up name. We
know him and of course the former commander went over
in a trade last year to the Bears. They actually,
as far as an inside guys go, one of their
big signings in the pre inf agency a veteran guy

(26:26):
Grady Grady Jared Doe o'dingbo is their other outside rusher starter.
They obviously last week against the Lions, they did nothing,
would not get to Jared Goff at all at all,
and they put up fifty two points on them. And
the biggest issue, the biggest issue the Bears have right

(26:50):
now is in the secondary. Jalen Johnson, their best cornerback
two time pro bowler, played twenty snaps last week against
the Lions. He missed their open with an injury, and
he left the game with a different injury this week.
They're also missing Kyler Gordon, who's battling a hamstring and
hasn't played in the game this this year so far,

(27:11):
they missed the first two games and they're one of
their inside linebackers, TJ. Edwards, missed the opener, and he
came out of last week's game with a hamstring injury
as well.

Speaker 4 (27:24):
In two games, they have three sacks, nine quarterback.

Speaker 6 (27:27):
Hits, and the secondary sounds like the same narrative we
had for the Giants.

Speaker 2 (27:32):
Secondary.

Speaker 6 (27:33):
Great, you know, decent up front, but in the back,
you got a lot of young guys, a lot of.

Speaker 2 (27:37):
Injuries like this. Israel mcconmo tie in. Nashon Wright is
the other the He's okay, he's okay. He didn't wear
twenty four. He was twenty six, but he had.

Speaker 6 (27:50):
Injured his knee or something to remember. After the playing
that was no problem.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
Yeah he played in this game.

Speaker 3 (27:54):
Ye, yeah, he played fifty two snaps against the Lions
as a backup.

Speaker 2 (28:00):
Right.

Speaker 3 (28:00):
He's basically they've got Tyreek Stevenson is their healthy starting cornerback.
They're missing Jalen Johnson, They're missing Kyler Gordon. Nick McLeod
had thirty six snaps against the Lions. Naseean Wright had
fifty two snaps against the Lions. They also lost another

(28:21):
corner fifth round draft pick two years ago, Terrell Smith,
in the preseason to a season ending injury.

Speaker 4 (28:26):
Well, here's what I want to see. The Bears have
the nerve to putting Seawan right up in man coverage
against either one of those wide receivers and you can
decide before the snap where.

Speaker 2 (28:39):
The ball's going got to come in here. Oh all though.

Speaker 4 (28:45):
Right, Well, I don't know if all of them do,
but I have knowledge of watching some.

Speaker 2 (28:51):
Little experience, you know. As far as the secondary is concerned.

Speaker 4 (28:55):
Well, there's a reason why they traded them for or.

Speaker 3 (29:03):
Was Itoghany Noah Eggnoghany? Yes, once again, they do have
a ballhawk in their secondary.

Speaker 2 (29:13):
The Bears do.

Speaker 3 (29:14):
Kevin Bayern as safety. Remember him in Tennessee? Yeah, I
mean he was a two time Pro bowler there. He's
got twenty nine picks in his career. But he's now
thirty two years old, so.

Speaker 2 (29:26):
I think that's all he has.

Speaker 4 (29:27):
Yeah, that's young forever, since.

Speaker 3 (29:33):
Had twenty nine in about the first four years of
the league.

Speaker 2 (29:39):
The priority in this game should be the running game.
I mean, you go back to the Lions game. The Lions,
they just feasted on this defense. In the running game,
Jamier Gibbs ninety four yards, David Montgomery fifty seven, and
they both had a touchdown a piece. And I think
that the running game obviously opened up everything for them
in the receiving game because Monron Saint Brown and Jamison Williams.

(30:05):
It was ugly. Yeah, yeah, number one, number one, Jameson
Williams from Alabama. I believe he's absolutely fantastic. Guys fought
back through some injuries and some off the field stuff.
But you know the way that Chicago just didn't didn't
look in They didn't look good at all. I mean, offensively,
they had so much dysfunction. The defense was just getting

(30:25):
worn out. They played a lot uh in that game
versus Detroit. So that's the one thing I looked at it,
especially with the way that our running back has come along.
Williams is what I'm talking about. You know. I just
feel as though running the ball at these guys and
catering to what still strength is and what should be
guiding strength should help us out tremendously. We gotta, we gotta,

(30:46):
we have to travel with the running game.

Speaker 6 (30:48):
I just feel much better when you go on the
road being able to run the ball is something that
we just have to establish this entire season because it
does sell things.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
Down for your offense. There's no doubt about it.

Speaker 6 (31:03):
If we can go into Chicago and we don't throw
the ball for the first three drives, I'll be fine
with that. If we can can just continue to run
at these guys and keep pounding them. We may not
be good in pass the pass offense, but when it
comes to running the ball, we need to show that
we can go forward because the running game travels so well.

Speaker 4 (31:23):
It didn't travel very well the first two possessions at
at and t sned.

Speaker 2 (31:28):
It did not It did not bring it up, but
don't abandon it.

Speaker 4 (31:31):
No, and they didn't although sort of by the.

Speaker 3 (31:35):
Way, that's the way to keep your quarterback healthy too well.

Speaker 4 (31:38):
And here's the thing. Everybody pointed out about the first
half that the Cowboys with the rushing yards were they
like sixteen or some ridiculous number. But what happened was
they ended up with at least two possessions. It was
a two minute drill, so you're probably not running the ball,
you're trying to get down the field, so that kind

(31:59):
of skewed the numbers in that game.

Speaker 2 (32:01):
I think it showed that we did what we had
to do right. You know, we were.

Speaker 6 (32:05):
Once we were called upon to do it in serious situations.
We were able to do that and that worked well
for us. It got us out of trouble.

Speaker 4 (32:13):
The first half. I was right, Williams had six carries
for sixteen yards and then he ended up with eighteen
carries for ninety seven yards.

Speaker 2 (32:23):
So he ate in the second half, second half, second half,
in overtime.

Speaker 6 (32:27):
Whenever you get I don't care when it comes, if
you call on it. Yeah, and we win that game.
Then it came when we needed it to come. So
you know, you can look at how well we should
have been doing better in the first half and all that.

Speaker 2 (32:38):
Yeah, all of that can happen.

Speaker 6 (32:40):
But if you can show me a team that can
answer the bell when it needs to answer, I'm good with.

Speaker 2 (32:45):
That, man. Kind of. I just want to say this,
Tyler Smith, I left that. I know he just got
paid and maybe that was motivation for him on Sunday,
but man, he wears seventy three and I don't I hate,
I won't do a camp or anything like that. I'm
just saying this, dude, is a road grade SOB and
he is you talk about you turn on tape and

(33:06):
you see a guy giving it to linebackers when he
gets to the second level, guys are finding trying to
get underneath the turf to get away from him. Even
on that.

Speaker 6 (33:16):
Touchdown, they getting away from us down was amazing. Yeah,
I mean they held guys in place without even holding that.
They had to hold it for a minute. And for
them to be to do it like that, that just
lets you know that was good technique because the refs
waiting for to throw something.

Speaker 2 (33:30):
They were waiting.

Speaker 3 (33:31):
And by the way, let's just take let's take them
moment before I break and talk about Tyler Smith because
that happens. You know, we had game and so he
didn't give it its due. As far as how big
that is to get the Tyler Smith contract done, and
what a great story Tyler Smith is. When you go
back to his high school days at North Crowley High School,

(33:52):
he was lightly recruited and one of the main reasons
he was lightly recruited was he had to have major
surgery his bullet.

Speaker 2 (33:59):
Yeah, it's severely.

Speaker 3 (34:01):
Major surgeries when he was in high school fifteen sixteen
years old to basically reconstruct his lower legs.

Speaker 2 (34:09):
And well they grew like three inches after that too, right,
And so.

Speaker 3 (34:14):
Then he so he does then get get a scholarship
to Tulsa University and was a three year starter there
and then becomes a first round draft pick. But also
hats off to the Cowboys scouting department realizing what and
doing their research on him and real life, because he
was an under the radar guy in that whole draft

(34:34):
process going into it, and people were left scratching their head, going, okay,
first first round on this guy was a reachion on him?

Speaker 4 (34:43):
Yeah, oh, there was a lot of criticism, all right, Right,
a guard in the first round.

Speaker 3 (34:49):
In this very room.

Speaker 2 (34:52):
Who takes a guard? Right?

Speaker 4 (34:56):
But I did say he could play tackle if that's
your way.

Speaker 2 (35:00):
Yeah, the only way out right.

Speaker 3 (35:01):
There, which is by the way, is one of the
reasons he got this big gun drag right off the bat.
He proved that he could, even without any practice time,
shift out to left tackle when Tyrone went down with
an injury.

Speaker 4 (35:13):
And give him some as a rookie, some credit for
being smart because he got his money a year before
he needed to get it.

Speaker 2 (35:21):
I hate that something, How did that happen?

Speaker 4 (35:23):
Amazing, Wow, you're gonna give me sign or whatever.

Speaker 2 (35:29):
It wasn't. I don't but we knew, we knew this
was coming. Coming into the summer time. We were talking
about Micah's contract, and I couldn't get through the show
without saying that we couldn't get through that contract. But
once we once it was clear, you know, guys, you know,
like Deron Bland and Tyler Smith became priority number one
to get that done. Before Micah's contract, you were saying

(35:50):
to yourself, damn, we might lose one of the both
of those guys. And so I mean, look, he's rewarding
he already has. He's rewarded the franchise by how tough
feel is, how hard knows he is. And I've I
have said several times, I think he's the best left
tackle on this team. But they just can't. They have
they they've stood the ground on the fact that that

(36:10):
they believe he's a guard and they keep him there.
But his athleticism is footwork, all of those things have
always said to me, this guy's out left.

Speaker 4 (36:17):
Tackle, and that'll help out brock Hoffman playing the center,
keeping him next to him right.

Speaker 3 (36:25):
And even though he doesn't play next to him. He's
helping out Tyler Booker and making his transitions starting in
the NFL.

Speaker 2 (36:32):
Another name that was really not talking about it, and
I think that's good when you're not talking about a
rookie office alignment.

Speaker 4 (36:37):
You know, he talks about himself, and he was apologizing.
He led a couple pressures through and past blocking. But
if you watch him block at me final scrimmage, oh my,
he loves it.

Speaker 2 (36:49):
No, he loves to bring the pain.

Speaker 3 (36:50):
And oh, by the way, Dexter Lawrence is on the
other side this past week. So all right, we continue
with By the way, you talk about the contracts they're getting.
In the meantime, let's put that on the rundown for
next week when Micah comes to town. We need to
have no conversation. What has been happening.

Speaker 2 (37:09):
Mickey's team comes to town, right, right, exactly? All right?
Classes went to Mickey's team. You know what?

Speaker 13 (37:20):
Gods I was later that I was so sorry. Usually
I'm shopping in that job.

Speaker 5 (37:31):
Oh Michael, Michael, were you Were you pissing him off
as much as you can?

Speaker 4 (37:35):
Were you not sharing firm against the commanders?

Speaker 2 (37:38):
Oh? No, I wouldn't share for anybody. No, baby, I'm
still calling flu still.

Speaker 3 (37:42):
Caboys, all right, more mixed shots in a moment.

Speaker 10 (37:47):

Speaker 3 (40:18):
So we established the factor. Davian Clowney is out on
the Cowboys practice field wearing the number forty two. I
wonder if the Cowboys had competition to sign Clowney. The
Washington Commanders signed Preston Smith today. They lost defensive end

(40:40):
and others in last week's game. Dietrich Wise went down
loss for the season. So I wonder if and that
was a they played on Thursday, right, Yeah, they played
on Thursday. I wonder if that accelerated the talks on
Clowney because Clowney was here on Thursday, and then there
was the injury that Dietrich Wise suffering interest and then

(41:03):
so now and the Cowboys, but he has won the
race for Clowney.

Speaker 4 (41:07):
They were trying to say he left here, but they
hadn't got a deal done.

Speaker 3 (41:12):
But what that injury occurs on Thursday night, And I
wonder if the Commanders then called Clowney and asked, yes,
just there and so so then by Sunday after the game,
Jerry's saying there we got an agreement with Clowney. I
wonder if but they did it before the game, right,
But what I'm saying is since the Commander's played on Thursday,

(41:35):
all this stuff could have happened on front.

Speaker 4 (41:37):
Maybe the Commanders didn't offer as much because my understanding
that's was the offer didn't change from Thursday.

Speaker 3 (41:43):
I'm assuming that's the case Sunday.

Speaker 2 (41:45):
Yeah, so we didn't have a bidding war. It was
the dollar amount was the dollar amount, which is about
three point five yes, okay.

Speaker 4 (41:53):
With a chance to make six million.

Speaker 3 (41:56):
But it is interesting here. In the last couple of weeks. Okay,
the Cowboys played the Eagles on a Thursday night, and
we saw that the Eagles pass rush was and what
it needs to be, and they immediately signed Zdaria Smith
and he played twenty snaps against the Chiefs and had
a half sack.

Speaker 2 (42:13):
Yeah, okay.

Speaker 3 (42:14):
Then the Cowboys realize we need help also, and so
they get Clowney, and then the Commanders and the three
guys the veteran pass rushers that were still out there
when the regular season started, they within the span of
two weeks, they all got scooped up by the NFC
East after the first game of the season, right, so.

Speaker 2 (42:35):
You got a shout out to Philadelphia for correcting their
problems immediately. They don't wait, they saw it right there
after the Cowboys game. It was like, nah, we're not
going to stick to this, you know, in spite of
what we saw during training camp. We got to get
this corrected.

Speaker 4 (42:50):
So how many snaps do you think Clowny can play
Sunday twenty eight? Twenty eight, twenty eight eight. That's going
to be as pick to click.

Speaker 2 (42:59):
Yeah, ate what we said. We just said yesterday that
Sadavia's played twenty twenty.

Speaker 3 (43:06):
Yeah, he's only twenty.

Speaker 2 (43:08):
I'm gonna say twenty. I'm putting eight on that, bro.

Speaker 4 (43:11):
I'm gonna go twenty.

Speaker 3 (43:12):
Okay, Well, I'm just looking at snapcounts for edge rushers.
In last week's game against the Giants, James Houston had
fifteen snaps and he started and had a sack. Yep
and started. Marshawn Kneeland had twenty seven snaps, as Araku

(43:33):
had twenty six, Fowler had twenty eight.

Speaker 2 (43:37):
Yeah, twenty eight.

Speaker 3 (43:38):
Sam, you know, Sam Williams had forty one.

Speaker 2 (43:44):
There you go split it up.

Speaker 3 (43:46):
So you're five edge rushers Sam Williams forty one, Fowler
twenty eight, Kneeland twenty seven, Houston fifteen. Who else did
I have in there? And Kneeland twenty seven?

Speaker 4 (43:59):
How many sacks as a rock of twenty six?

Speaker 2 (44:01):
Yeah, okay, how many of those?

Speaker 4 (44:06):
One very important pressure?

Speaker 3 (44:09):
Well there was a sack picked to click and Houston
had a sack.

Speaker 4 (44:14):
That was the one was that like the first possession
that lasted nine minutes?

Speaker 3 (44:21):
I think it was, Oh my god, yeah, and the
other sack was my kid.

Speaker 2 (44:24):
Look at this note. I got here with.

Speaker 4 (44:27):
A minute to go in the first quarter. It's six
to nothing. The Giants had twenty two plays for one
hundred and seventy yards and how many points six? That's amazing.
And they had six first downs, which was more than
they had totaled in the first game of the season.

Speaker 2 (44:51):
And they overcame one of their own players.

Speaker 4 (44:53):
Yeah, yeah, overcame one of the because they got him
out of the lineup.

Speaker 10 (44:57):
That did.

Speaker 3 (44:58):
They proceeded to score thirty one.

Speaker 2 (44:59):
Points the game. Dude, you see what I'm saying. I
show you now, he probably got it.

Speaker 4 (45:07):
That should be one of those clips when they showed
table and he goes get him out of the game,
you could see him out and they didn't get him out.
The offensive line coach probably overruled.

Speaker 2 (45:20):
So overall, how many sacks do we have on the season? Three? Three?
Is that right? Hang? Three and two games? Wow, I
think you're missing I think you're missing some people. Man,
You're missing some pressure and you're gonna have to generate
it against Caleb Williams. Yeah, you gotta have it. You know,
in spite of what people think about Cayler Williams, he
does have legs and we are not going through that again. Well,

(45:43):
you know what, hey, dog.

Speaker 4 (45:46):
With me.

Speaker 2 (45:47):
You gotta come up with me back. I was, I'm
not gonna talk three sacks. We gotta get more pressure,
get rush on this guy and Caleb.

Speaker 3 (45:57):
Caleb has been sacked six times in two games games
and he's been running for and he's got eleven carries
for eighty five yards and a touchdown.

Speaker 2 (46:07):
You know, we thought Russell gave us problems, which he
which he did. I think this kid is he's he's
so confused with trying to just deal with Ben Johnson's offense.
Right now, you can still see that he's trying to
learn it, learn it on the fly. The last thing
that we want to do is inject any confidence in him.

Speaker 3 (46:25):
He's fine at the beginning of the game as long
as it's scripted. He's They scored a touchdown on the
first drive in the first game, and they a touchdown again.

Speaker 2 (46:36):
Are you and that party that says that Ben Johnson
is good when he's on script? I like that.

Speaker 3 (46:42):
I mean, i've Ben Johnson just needs to script the
whole game board.

Speaker 2 (46:45):
Yeah, but how do you script them down by thirty?
You know he didn't script that. I think.

Speaker 3 (46:53):
Apt has gotta There.

Speaker 2 (46:56):
Is no formula. There is no formula for that.

Speaker 3 (46:58):
AI, but put any kind of scenario in there, and
it's got to come up on chat g chat. I
bet you could do a chat GPT on Ben Johnson's plays.
You probably have to pay a lot of money for
this form of chat GPT uh and you'll come up.

Speaker 2 (47:14):
With the script.

Speaker 4 (47:14):
So do you need to tell Schottenheimer when you do
your interview on Thursday that don't defer if you win
the toss, make sure you take the ball. Because they
score on their first possession. Well, they're going to get
that all eventually, we're gonna be Yeah, but give you
a chance first on.

Speaker 2 (47:31):
The road is different when you're losing. It is paying
at home.

Speaker 6 (47:36):
Optimism is not there. It's just not until you unless
you have a strong team with some strong leaders. And
we've learned that from the Cowboys the last few years.

Speaker 2 (47:46):
I'm with you. You win the toss, take the ball.
I want the ball.

Speaker 4 (47:49):
I got an offense that scored forty points, right.

Speaker 6 (47:52):
Please don't let we just let the kicker kick thirty
five and we just bring him out that nothing gain
fifteen yards?

Speaker 2 (48:01):
Right? Maybe? Maybe? All right?

Speaker 3 (48:04):
Weapon, Well, one of the eventful Wednesday. This was inside
