Well, we had some breaking news last night in the
Dallas for sporting community as Bruce Bochie and the Texas
Rangers are parting ways. They're looking for a new manager.
So I was dealing with that last night, and so

quarter of the Broncos game, and they were talking about
the Cowboys Buck and Aikman where it was twenty one

to three. Yeah, I'm like, oh this. I thought I
was watching the Cowboys game again because they were just
talking about the Cowboys.

Garrett Will. I think it's very good as well stretches
the field. Look, here's the thing. Brice Hall from Iowa State.
If you've ever watched this guy play, he was the
man coming out of Iowa State. Has had some injuries,
but still is a pretty serviceable running back in this league.
I think he's the key for them as well as
well as justin fields. You don't want to see him run.

But you also don't want to see Bruce Brice Hall
getting off on his Cowboys defense right now. I'm like you,
guys are looking at the all twenty two of the
last game and you're saying to yourself, Matt Ebraflus has
got to be kicking the desk saying to himself, what
do I have to do in order to fix this?
Can I keep it simple? Stupid? You know, like everybody says,

that we don't have two guys running free on national television.
And there are times when the defense was there, but
the players just didn't make the trase true. And that
really on third down, we had several chances to get

If you're like that on third down, you're not going
to be able to beat anybody eleven for fourteen. Your
offense can't even help you when your defense can't get
off the field. And that's again the rest, well, they
are getting plenty of rest extended drives and I think
eleven for fourteen, and then I asked the number about
the tackles simply because I think in the football game,
what you expect five or six, but maybe ten to sixteen.

You know, it was more than that.

I hope not. I hope not. I really don't, cause
this defense really needs something to feel good about. Man,
it's over the last couple of weeks. Man, these guys
haven't really had much, and every week has got to
be hell for them.

Well, I mean, if nothing else, when you have an
offense like this that's doing well instead of trying to
pale and being considered to be pale in comparison, yeah.

Be inspired by them. You know.

got your back, almost got your cussing up. Sometimes got

the offense would appreciate. Just give me one stop and
all of a sudden we'll be thinking momentum.

We'll be thinking optimistically as opposed to pessimisticy.

You know, the sad part is two of their third
down stops came in overtime, but the first one met
fourth down. Because you're in overtime. I was there one
fourth down there one fourth and sixth, and then they
stopped them on third down to force the field goal.
So they really didn't stop them. They really third down

They didn't stop the drive. Yeah, stop hitting.

on not going for it on fourth down. So I
went back and looked at the first three plays right
first and goal at the five span, Ford and Bass

pulled and they missed Gary. He went unblocked. That's why
he made the.

Tackle Williams for a one yard game.

Yeah, they pulled and he's right here and this guy
went here, and this guy went here and Noble.

So there's bust on offense too.

There was a bust on that play. Second down, Pickens
got doubled and he tried to go in and then
he tried to go out like he did on the
touchdown pass was a Giants the Giants game, and he
wasn't open and comes from the right side, right, and

he's chasing down at the twelve yard.

Line and Ferguson, Ferguson guy block and he missed the
block well. And and Schottenheimer said yesterday, which we should
have by himself, we should have had Javante over there
right helping him.

And then third in goal, he's lay.

That Schottenheimer admitted yesterday, didn't light He didn't. He wasn't
proud of the play call. And he was looking right accountability.

running sidewalk trying to look there well, and he was
running sideways. There was a corner who would have come
off and would have at least made contact with him,

he didn't function very well on the first three plays.

just saying this, this team, for as hard as they fought,
for as long as they fought, if that game was
gonna end in a tie, I was cheese lou because

the defense, to me, if hold them to a field goal,

if anything right, I would have bet anything that you
can hold them to just a field goal, right, but touchdown,
they're gonna have to drive it all the way down
on you. They're gonna have to do They're gonna have

to win the game basically in that in that scenario,
and if I'm the Cowboys, I'm thinking Lafloor, if he
gets down there and he does score, it would have

probably been a decision for him to go for two
to win the game.

have any timeouts left and the clock goes all the
way down to nothing. He was had to be shocked
that Love was throwing for the m zone there just
for the urgency.

We got lucky. They got the got lucky, and we
could have gotten lucky on it.

They got the ball back with four forty to go,
plenty of game playing the twenty. They went all the
way to the twelfth, all right, and there was still

And I'm sure the way he called the plays he
wanted to make sure. Well, we're gonna try to score

because at this point our offense is on the road.
They really haven't stopped us much in the second half.
Go with your strength, go with your momentum. You're saying
no momentum because you messed up three plates place. Yeah so,
but if you have someone as hot as our offense

was at that time, yeah, let's just roll the dice.

What you're doing is you're basically betting the game on

won't say your name on air, but I've talked to
a player, former Dallas Cowboy player, and it's like, you
don't know what that what those guys are like over
there in that locker room. You don't know how fragile
the mentality is over there. So you don't know if
losing a game like that where a coach makes a decision,

what that says to your locker room. So I get it.
There's so many different intangibles to making that decision that
imminently ending in the tie was the right thing to do,
because I guess nobody's feelings a brill.

If you were a player and your coach said, I
believe in you guys, you know, let's go for it.
I believe in my offense, and then you guys, I mean,
the play was there, but you got another someone mess
up again, like the first three players. Do they still
feel good about their coach? I mean they should because

and if they don't make it as a coach, I

was everything was timing, West coast timing, everything was timing.

As soon as his back foot hit, he threw the
ball and that was Golden that ended up catching it.

are free to go down the field untouched, which I

think is a flaw in this technique.

Well, I was just gonna hit on something positive silver
lining from the game, and that's Kenny Clark as I
just saw you guys, you just mentioned him. Having ninety
five on that defensive line is different. It's different to
see a guy playing that technique and playing it well
too gap and shooting the gap. However, he is getting
it done for us upfront, and you can tell the

difference that he makes even for Osa Diggi Zua, the
way that he plays also when it's those two ninety
five and ninety seven in the game at the same time.
So man, I don't think Cowboy fans even realize the
benefit yet of having Kenny Clark on the defensive line
because of how bad perception, you know, how bad the
defense is playing.
Speaker 3 (28:46):
He played fifty eight snaps in that game too, fifty
eight of the seventy eight snaps on defense, and Osa
was at fifty three snaps. So they use that combo
in there a lot in that yet it's a lot
snaps for interior.

It was a different look in regards to Caleb Williams
just sitting back there having all day.

Uh, they did a lot of play action.

get there. You got to disrupt him with the hands up,
but otherwise they're not going to be sitting back there

the the encouraging thing is that they had young guys
out there playing, playing more and sort of playing well.

the tackles? And it ended up being neither. Well, everybody
played for your solid with help.

And the significant thing on that he didn't go into
the game initially due to injury. He went in in
a rotation basically where Steel came out for four plays
and he came in and played right tackle, and it
was that was a coach's decision. He's going in like that.

I'm literally he had eleven tackles. At the end of
the game. When I checked the stat sheet and I

was there watching the game and it didn't I was like, wow,
he had eleven tackles.

what you expect five or six, but maybe ten to sixteen.

So they really didn't stop them. They really third down

Yeah, they pulled and he's right here and this guy

There was a bust on that play. Second down, Pickens
got doubled and he tried to go in and then
he tried to go out like he did on the
touchdown pass was a Giants the Giants game, and he
wasn't open and comes from the right side, right, and

he's chasing down at the twelve yard.

Line and Ferguson, Ferguson guy block and he missed the
block well. And and Schottenheimer said yesterday, which we should
have by himself, we should have had Javante over there
right helping him.

And then third in goal, he's lay.

That Schottenheimer admitted yesterday, didn't light He didn't. He wasn't
proud of the play call. And he was looking right accountability.

So he was open in the flat, but he was
running sidewalk trying to look there well, and he was
running sideways. There was a corner who would have come
off and would have at least made contact with him,

primarily because he's running towards the sideline to catch the ball.
That's right, and there's enough. There was a defender over
there in position, and the other.

if you're deciding should I kick it, you're saying, well,
he didn't function very well on the first three plays.
What's my thought that we're going to do well on

How many do you get because they already had taken two,

they took one on I thought they took well, maybe
the second one was on defense. I take that back,

watching the defense and the way that they function. I'm
just saying this, this team, for as hard as they fought,
for as long as they fought, if that game was
gonna end in a tie, I was cheese lou because
of It's just how hard they fought. And at that point,
the defense, to me, if hold them to a field goal,

if anything right, I would have bet anything that you
can hold them to just a field goal, right, but touchdown,
they're gonna have to drive it all the way down
on you. They're gonna have to do They're gonna have

to win the game basically in that in that scenario,
and if I'm the Cowboys, I'm thinking Lafloor, if he
gets down there and he does score, it would have

probably been a decision for him to go for two
to win the game.

don't know what that what those guys are like over
there in that locker room. You don't know how fragile
the mentality is over there. So you don't know if
losing a game like that where a coach makes a decision,

what that says to your locker room. So I get it.
There's so many different intangibles to making that decision that
imminently ending in the tie was the right thing to do,
because I guess nobody's feelings a brill.

quarterback and all you saw was a quarterback love. That
was everything was timing, West coast timing, everything was timing.

As soon as his back foot hit, he threw the
ball and that was Golden that ended up catching it.

Was trying to go down the scenes with him, but
he didn't run the scene.

He faked going the scene. He pivoted came right back

the pass rush, and they didn't really get there.

They did that pretty much the entire fourth quarter. They
didn't give him a chance for the sack as much
as they could because everything was about timing, and that
is a problem because we don't reroute receivers, so they
are free to go down the field untouched, which I

think is a flaw in this technique.
Speaker 2 (28:07):
Well, I was just gonna hit on something positive silver
lining from the game, and that's Kenny Clark as I
just saw you guys, you just mentioned him. Having ninety
five on that defensive line is different. It's different to
see a guy playing that technique and playing it well
too gap and shooting the gap. However, he is getting
it done for us upfront, and you can tell the
(28:28):
difference that he makes even for Osa Diggi Zua, the
way that he plays also when it's those two ninety
five and ninety seven in the game at the same time.
So man, I don't think Cowboy fans even realize the
benefit yet of having Kenny Clark on the defensive line
because of how bad perception, you know, how bad the
defense is playing.
Speaker 3 (28:46):
He played fifty eight snaps in that game too, fifty
eight of the seventy eight snaps on defense, and Osa
was at fifty three snaps. So they use that combo
in there a lot in that yet it's a lot
snaps for interior.
Speaker 4 (29:02):

It was a different look in regards to Caleb Williams
just sitting back there having all day.
Speaker 4 (29:07):
Uh, they did a lot of play action.
Speaker 5 (29:09):
You didn't see Love and those guys doing a lot
of play actions. So once again, the blitz is gonna
get there. You got to disrupt him with the hands up,
but otherwise they're not going to be sitting back there
with a five to seven step drop.

No, this everything was quick.

Everything was quick, except for the third play of the
game or whatever it was when they hit the deep pass. Yeah, first,
but he had a lot of.

I just didn't see much of it to where he's
back there able to survey the field in that manner.
They wouldn't allowing him to do that, but they still
weren't able to get to him as much as he wanted.

I thought he was active. And I like the fact
that he went to the head coach after the game
in the locker room and apologize for not being more
of a factor in the game.

How many snaps did he tell you he went that
forty six six years ago? Okay, he did get there,

The forty halfway there. I don't think they figured he

was his best game. He was really active, and they
see him getting better game by game by game. So

bet he gets some more because he's doing a better
job against the run. Now. I know there was one
run play that he got caved in and Jacobs got outside.
But he's turning into more of a a full defensive end,

He's got three tackles on the season that you're but
his expertise is two quarterback pressures, two quarterback hits as
far as the NFL not the coaching film, so.

They need I really expected more of him.

They needed more from that. Yeah, yeah, But I think
the the encouraging thing is that they had young guys
out there playing, playing more and sort of playing well.

I mean in moments, in moments.

Think about Nate Thomas going in there and playing both
tackle positions in the same game.

Now, that was positive. I mean that was positive, especially
when you came in here on a Wednesday, I believe
it was, and asking the question who were we more
terrified for? Was it the center guard comeball? Was it
the tackles? And it ended up being neither. Well, everybody
played for your solid with help.

And the significant thing on that he didn't go into
the game initially due to injury. He went in in
a rotation basically where Steel came out for four plays
and he came in and played right tackle, and it
was that was a coach's decision. He's going in like that.

Yeah, I have never liked coaches that rotated offensive.
Speaker 3 (33:17):
Well, well, I think it wasn't a rotation. No, I
misspoke by saying rotation. It wasn't a rotation, but they
did give him some time early in the What did

And Shot Nimer talked about it yesterday with him and
with Shamar James. We're getting these young guys on the

give up a pressure.

he said, I haven't played a game in a year,
and he reminded me they got hurt towards a cl
the third game in East Carolina season last year. So
not only has he not played, he had practice and
put a helmet on. So he's going to need some
time Tony.

One day day ramp up is going to be important
for him, Yes, as well. But Kayln Carson, it was
his knee.

He obviously I was about to say that he had
a hyperincented knee on July twenty ninth. Okay, and so
at the time of the end of camp that was
a roster move that they made.

So and at least he played last year, right so.

But he had injury issues.

And then everybody keeps reminding us about Overshown. Meaning when
you're talking about the linebackers, they know eventually he's going
to be ready. You know, they kept saying Thanksgiving. But
think about it. Thanksgiving is four days after the Sunday game, right,
so there's no day, no way a guy comes back

and plays on Sunday and then four days later is
ready to go again on Thanksgiving. Or if he doesn't
play on Sunday, he's not going to practice one day.

Coming off a rehab.

Yeah, right, so he's got to be ready early November
to be able to play that part of the otherwise
you gotta wait till after thanks.

So then what do you do about the linebacker position?

Well, the brightest spot, the brightest spot in our future
is agent zero is Overshown. They were ports in time
in the game, I'm watching him blitzing. I'm saying, oh
my god, he would have definitely gotten to the quarterback
because of his speed. Right now, I'm just I think
when I'm Jack Sambourne, when I was talking about him,
I'm literally he had eleven tackles. At the end of
the game. When I checked the stat sheet and I

was there watching the game and it didn't I was like, wow,
he had eleven tackles.

While you you concentrated another ones you missed.
Speaker 2 (45:01):
I don't know what I was whatever I was stuck out,
It's just whatever I saw. When I looked at eleven tackles.
I was saying to myself, what.

but he wasn't always successful.

If a linebacker's tackling five downs because someone didn't slow
him down. But if he's down the field and he

He played twenty six snaps. They're getting him ready. They
see the athletic ability he has, and I think he's

something that they want to get him on the field.
