Speaker 1 (00:05):
Welcome in to the New Orleans Saints Podcast, present a
buy seatcake. You'll hear from players, coaches, broadcasters and writers
that cover the NFL on a daily basis. The New
Orleans Saints Podcast starts right now. Here's your host, Aaron Summers.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Welcome to the New Orleans Saints Podcast. A'maron Summers. On
today's podcast, we're gonna catch up with three Saints, one
brand new and tight end Jack Stole, who comes to
New Orleans from Miami after spending the majority of his
career with the Eagles, and two returning Saints, one that
hasn't ever played anywhere else in Land and Young, and
(00:47):
one who returns to the Saints after a year with
the forty nine ers. In cornerback Isaac Gadham, Landon Young
signed a one year contract with the Saints, so he'll
be continuing his career here after being drafted in twenty
twenty one. His versatile often of linemen who played both
guard spots, both tackle positions, and contributed on special teams.
He played in all seventeen games and had five starts
(01:09):
last season. Quarterback Isaac Gadam rejoins the Saints after that
year with the forty nine ers, where he also played
under new defensive coordinator Brandon's Dally, who was the associate
head coach there in San Francisco, so there's definitely some
familiarity there. Gadam was a third round pick by the
Broncos in twenty eighteen and has played in one hundred
and four career games. In his first full season with
(01:32):
the Saints in twenty twenty three, Yadam had a career
high forty six tackles and six passes defense. So we
are going to catch up with all three. See what
Yadam's been up to lately in here, what they're looking
forward to about being here with the Saints. You can
actually catch up with one of our current Saints, Cam Jordan,
at the new Clock Store in Elmwood this weekend. Cam
(01:54):
Jordan will be there to meet fans and take a
look at all the new products from our friends at Google.
Over seventy people get a prize and it's a football,
a free football. Make sure you come out March twenty second,
from twelve to two. It is eleven thirty South Clearview Parkway.
Sweet Beat. It's that new cock store. You're not going
to be able to miss it without further ado. We
(02:15):
are going to get into our interviews, kicking things off
first with Landon Young, then we'll head into the interview
with Jack Stole and wrap things up with Ike Adam Landon.
It is great to see you again. Welcome to the
New Orleans Saints Podcast. How are you?
Speaker 3 (02:30):
I am great.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
I bet you are happy that you officially know that
you are coming back here. When you found out that
that was what was going to be happening, what was
going through your mind?
Speaker 4 (02:41):
Yeah, I was. I was really excited. Of course, we
you know, had had a little bit of interest from
other people, and you know, trying to navigate this whole
free agency for the first time. You know, I was
kind of a nervous right because I didn't know what
to expect, and so when the Saints said that they
wanted to rework a contract and everything, I was super
or excited because obviously I've played there the last four years.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
I fell in love with the city, I fell in love.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
With the team and the guys and everything, and so
you know, finally being able to sign that contract and
say I'm coming back for another year was a huge
weight off the shoulders and just excitement.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
What are you looking forward to achieving this next season?
What's next for you and kind of your career goals.
Speaker 5 (03:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
Absolutely, And I've always been that kind of six man
on the roster, and obviously I want to go in
and be able to compete and get that starting spot
and get a lot more playing time. You know, that's
probably what a lot of guys haven't in the same
in common. But you know, I've, like I said, I've
had a lot of reps on tape now and a
lot of experience in this program. Obviously, we have a
(03:44):
lot of coaching turnover and stuff and that, so that'd
be fun to navigate. But Brendan Nugi coming back, he
was my coach during my rookie season, so we kind
of have that prior relationship going force as well. But
like I said, just be able to come back and
help the team in any way I can and get
us back on the winning track. And obviously last year
was not what we wanted as a team and as
(04:07):
coaching staff and everything. But I'm really excited to get back,
get back to work with the guys and get us
back on the right track for the for the city
and the program and everything.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
When you kind of take a little step back from
not just the O line, but offensive coordinator and nas
Meyer and then the new head coach Kellen Moore. It's
it's going to be a lot of different faces on
the offense. What are you expecting from maybe what you've
seen from them at prior stops.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
Yeah, I'm excited for them to just be you know, newer,
younger faces, especially with Kellen, and maybe get a different
perspective on stuff. And you know, them coming from such
a successful team as well, they just want a Super Bowl,
so obviously they have different, different perspectives, different things that
might benefit this team and maybe changing a little bit
of the culture that we've had over the last two
(04:57):
or three years and improving on that. But you know,
I'm excited. Just like I said, We've had different offenses
over the last couple of years, and I get excited
just learning every single new one and seeing kind of
how the whole league works and not just you know,
the strict New New Orleans Saints offense that we've run
for such a long time. But I'm excited to see
(05:18):
that kind of turnover and kind of learn that new offense,
learn those those guys themselves and just kind of get
a fresh perspective into the program.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
You have some baseball bats behind you, is that right?
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (05:30):
I do.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
Actually why so those are actually from the Saints. Those
are the back games from Chtown's first year. So yeah,
we get those hung up because that's kind of the
end of an air Now.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
I don't think we're gonna have another back game.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
So that was the whole You got to bring your bats.
We got to get this game. We're coming into a fight.
There was one time where there were gas cans in
the locker room. Were you the one that was stacking
them up at your locker?
Speaker 3 (06:01):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (06:01):
I was.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
I was actually asking everybody if they wanted their gas
can or not. And you know, Derek, he's like, I
don't know what I'm gonna do with it, Sure and
take it. And you know it was supposed to be
for the vets, Like what else? What do you have
left in the tank? And you know, as me said,
I didn't have a gas can come in front of
my locker and I was like, well, that's twenty five
to thirty dollars a pisa.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
I don't have to pay. So I took them home
and filled them all.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
Up gas Okay, so this is part of what your
doomsday prepping.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
H not quite.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
We have a farm in Kentucky, so we all go
through a lot of gas cans and then just through
my yard work at home and everything like that. So
I was like, anywhere I can cut that cost, I'd
be more.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
Than willing to take them.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
That's hilarious, very frugal of you.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
Appreciate it, my wife. I came home and my wife
was like, what is this. Like, You're going to football
for a day and you come back with five gas cans? Like,
what's going on?
Speaker 2 (06:58):
He said, you have a farm in Kentucky. Yes, okay,
tell me about it.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
So my dad and my grandfather used to raise a
lot of pigs. So they raised sixteen seventeen thousand pigs
a year and cattle as well, and then they sold
out a pig business. We still run cattle on our farm.
We lease out parts of it as I'm playing, and
my dad's a start of financial planner and so our
time's kind of limited really there right now, but we
still do finish out ten to twenty cows a year
(07:25):
for friends, family, anybody that wants Kentucky raised beef and
kind of know what's going into them, know how they're
taken care of and slaughtered and kind of sell them
by the halfs and holes.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
Okay, so how often do you get up there?
Speaker 4 (07:40):
So during the off season we're there probably every other weekend,
every third weekend. Dad and Mom they go about every
weekend as they can, and that's where I'll spend a
lot of my time when I'm officially done playing.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
That's awesome. During the year, you guys do a lot
of dinners as a team, as offensive line dinners. I
saw you guys went to one so Ron that you
helped put together and I was laughing because it's the
whole O line and Jay Hayner.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:09):
Yeah, So we we do invite all the quarterbacks and
of course they're they're very busy guys and they get
a lot on their plates. So sometimes all three of
them can come. Sometimes it's Jake sometimes uh you know,
in the past, we've had Jamis come to a couple
and uh, but Jake's been.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
He's been awesome.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
He's he's locked into a lot of them and been
there and support that that O line dinner, and it's
been awesome just to have a little mix up of
just not o line. Occasionally we try to get tight
ends to come into fullbacks, but it's a it's a
great time and it's something that we really look forward
to every single week.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
How much do you think that helps with the performance
on the field when you guys have time like that
off the field.
Speaker 4 (08:52):
I think it's a tremendous help, because I think the
biggest thing that helps on the field is continuity in
your team period and being able to spend that time
with your quarterbacks, spend those times with the guys that
you're playing next to, and even spend the time with
the guys you're not playing exactly next to. It lets
you learn that person outside. It lets you get to
know that person on a personal level rather than just football.
(09:12):
Disconnect from the game for a couple hours, eat some
good food, and really, at the end of the day,
it makes us go on the field and you know
a little bit more about that person. You know the
reasons why why they're playing football and the reasons they're
still continuing to go, and it gives you a little
better motive to you know, have your brothers back.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
Out on the field.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
What are you looking forward to most about getting back
together with the o line here.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
I'm excited about everything. I'm excited about.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
You probably don't, especially in the off season. A lot
of guys talking about excited about working out, but I am.
I'm just excited about being around the guys again. The
culture down there has been absolutely phenomenal for the last
four years, and I got in with a really good
group of guys and we've continued to build that offensive
line room to a bunch of great, great guys. I'm
excited to work out with them, go spend some time
(10:00):
on with them, and then of course the good dinners
that we always eat together.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
That's awesome. I'm looking forward to seeing you around here
again soon. Thank you so much for the time and congrats.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
Yes, thank you so much and look forward to seeing
you too.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
Jack. Thank you for joining me on the New Orleans
Saints podcast. It is awesome to have you on. How
are you How are things going so far as a Saint?
Speaker 5 (10:22):
Oh, it's got going great. You know.
Speaker 6 (10:24):
We're me and my wife are looking forward to moving
down to New Orleans here shortly, and we couldn't we
couldn't be more excited. You know, We're pumped for the situation,
the opportunity and looking forward to doing everything we can
to help those Saints keep rolling.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
Okay, I saw you just got married this past summer yep,
and the photos were in people.
Speaker 6 (10:43):
Oh yeah, Hey, I'm gonna be honest with you. I
don't know anything about that. That's something you might have
to interview my wife.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
That's hey.
Speaker 6 (10:49):
I just showed up, did what I was told, and
you know, kept things rolling, like I think a good
husband should you know?
Speaker 2 (10:55):
Yeah, no, it looked beautiful, good pictures. So I understand
why they wanted to come out and you know, photograph
the event. Celebrity that you are, but for you undrafted
going into the NFL, popped around to a couple of
different places, coming here with the Saints. What kind of
opportunity do you see this?
Speaker 5 (11:12):
As you know, I think I think it's a phenomenal opportunity.
You know.
Speaker 6 (11:15):
Number one, because of the familiarity with a lot of
the coaches, you know, all the way from Kellen Moore
to uh you know, some of some of the assistance
like my tight ends coach, you know, Chase has with
you know, Kyle Keith, Keith Williams, coach Dubb you know TJ.
Like there's a lot of familiarity on the staff nuts
the o C that you know I've worked with in
(11:36):
different roles, whether that was in Philly for a little bit,
whether that was actually at my time in Nebraska. You know,
it's been it's been awesome getting to meet a couple
of these guys and you know, walking into a building
knowing some familiar faces. And you know, one thing with
me I think that you know, really popped out with
the Saints opportunity is you know, people like Chase have
(11:57):
you know, been with me at Nebraska, like Chase was
with me for two years in Nebraska, and you know,
I've been labeled as just you know, run blocking tight
end and you know that's something that you know, I
would like to evolve and you know, be able to
do more in this offense than just run block. I
got no issue going out there and you know, meeting
someone helmet to helmet, I got no issue with that.
Speaker 5 (12:15):
But I'd like to expand the role.
Speaker 6 (12:16):
And someone like him has seen me do that at Nebraska,
so you know, I I realized that it's a good
opportunity for that, you know, to go out there show
them what I can really do.
Speaker 5 (12:25):
And you know, I'm.
Speaker 6 (12:26):
Looking forward to at least getting the opportunity and making
the most of it.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
Do you feel like if you do add that or
showcase that element of your game more, that could lead
to you having more stability and sticking here with the Saints.
Speaker 5 (12:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (12:39):
Absolutely, you know, and I think I think any anyone
would understand. You know, one thing is a lot of
people just look at paper and you know, look at
look at stats.
Speaker 5 (12:47):
That's something that's you.
Speaker 6 (12:48):
Know, pretty apparent. But for me, you know, my game's
always been a little more nuanced. Seeing me you know
in the run blocking game, uh, you know what I
can do on the perimeter and things like that, and
you know, some of the stuff that doesn't show up
in the stat sheets. So you know, like I said,
I still love doing all that. I think that's you know,
that's that's my niche. That's what's kept me in the
NFL for as long as it had. And I'm just
(13:09):
looking forward to, you know, expanding my role even a
little bit more and you know, showing the Saints that
I can I can do more than that. You know,
I think it's a phenomenal opportunity here and really looking
forward to doing that.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
You were able to play against the Saints last year, right, Yes,
I was as on a Philadelphia Eagle.
Speaker 5 (13:26):
Yes, ma'am.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
What do you remember about that game and about the
Saints in that matchup?
Speaker 6 (13:31):
Yeah, you know, I remember it was a nail bier,
and you know, I remember it really went down to
the wire.
Speaker 7 (13:37):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (13:37):
You know, I remember Dallas having a phenomenal game, Dallas,
god her. And you know it was actually my first
game back as an Eagle because I spent the offseason
with the Giants. So I was just grateful to be
back out there and you know, just playing football. And
like I've always said, you know, I I might sound
like a broken record sometimes, but my goal is just
to keep queets on my feet, you know, be playing
this game as long as I can. And so anytime
(13:58):
I get to go step out on that field and
do that.
Speaker 5 (14:00):
It's awesome. But you know, the city New Orleans was phenomenal.
Speaker 6 (14:03):
You know, I went out to dinner with a couple
of guys and we all were, you know, just laughing
at how phenomenal food was stuff like that. So, I mean,
it's a phenomenal city and where I'm looking forward to,
you know, spending more time down there.
Speaker 2 (14:14):
You mentioned that the coaches have some familiarity with you,
and that's going to help you. But what does it
kind of say about the impression that you left on
them at your different spots that they kind of collectively
they were like, yeah, this is somebody we want to
have back on our team.
Speaker 7 (14:28):
You know.
Speaker 6 (14:28):
It's definitely something that you know, I take pride in
and it's something that you know I try to do
is just walk into every building and you know, just
be be a good guide.
Speaker 5 (14:36):
Number one, before first and foremost.
Speaker 6 (14:38):
And you know, it does mean a lot to me
that these guys have been around me, know what I'm about,
have seen me on the field, and they say, what,
we want to take a chance on him in New Orleans.
I don't take that lightly. And especially having some people
believe in you, it's always a great feeling and it's
something that you know, really fuels me to make sure,
you know that they were right, and you know, just
just showing them that, you know, they they can keep
(15:00):
putting their faith in me, keep believing in me, and
it's you know, just definitely another chip on your shoulder.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
What kind of vibes are you bringing to the locker room?
Speaker 6 (15:09):
I try to take probably myself and being a locker
room guy, you know, just bringing bringing everything.
Speaker 5 (15:13):
Uh and having a good time. It's uh.
Speaker 6 (15:15):
I'm a big believer in you know, if the locker
rooms loose, everyone's having a good time, everyone gets to
know each other.
Speaker 5 (15:20):
I think that shows on the field.
Speaker 6 (15:21):
And you know, I really genuinely do think that when
you do go out and have a good locker room,
you got a good connection.
Speaker 5 (15:27):
I think that teams go out there and play well.
Speaker 6 (15:30):
Like one of the one of the Eagles core values
has always been connecting, meaning bringing guys together, you know,
hanging out outside of just the locker room out on
the football field.
Speaker 5 (15:39):
And I think this.
Speaker 6 (15:40):
Year it even showed, you know when you when you
go watch some of the Eagles tape, they brought people together.
Speaker 5 (15:45):
You know that's a.
Speaker 6 (15:45):
Huge that's a huge just you know, Accolade, I would
say for you know, coach Sirianni, you know Kellen Moore
and you know nuts bringing all these guys together and realizing,
hey we got we got to connect and get closer,
and it shows on the field, and you know, I
think that's something that some teams lack. And I know
that you know, Kellen will bring that to the Saints,
and I'm looking forward to, you know, hopefully being part
(16:07):
of that and bringing everyone together and taking this team
as far as we can.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
How long have you had a mullet?
Speaker 5 (16:13):
So it's been on and off since twenty eighteen.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
Okay.
Speaker 6 (16:16):
It was actually just me and one of my buddies
from college. We when our staff changed, we ended up
having these early morning workouts, like we're getting up at
five every day in the spring, and so we were
probably exhausting. Just decided one day, We're like, hey, you
know what, let's just let this stuff roll. Like we
don't need to get we don't need to go to
the barber, let's just see what happens. And you know,
me and him ended up having them all for about
(16:37):
three years. And after that, I shaved it for a
little bit and then I was like, yeah, we got
to bring it back. It's too much fun to have
to not keep it.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
You know what. It has its own Twitter account, does
it really? Yeah, It's not very active, but it's there.
Speaker 6 (16:54):
Hey, listen, that's what I'm talking about. That's hilarious. I
try to stay off Twitter at social media as much
as I can. You still have a little presence, but
that's awesome.
Speaker 5 (17:04):
Let's go.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
Yeah, Jack Stole's mullet. It is, it is out there,
Let's go.
Speaker 5 (17:09):
Come on.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
Why do you like to stay off of social media?
Speaker 5 (17:12):
You know, I think there's just a lot of distractions.
Speaker 6 (17:14):
And I say staying off, you know, I'll still go
on it every now and then, you know, I just
I just think that there's a lot of a lot
of stuff on there that you don't really need to
read as much. I think that if you go out
and just instead of scrolling on your phone for thirty minutes,
probably not a bad idea. Go walk your dog, get
some sunlight outside, do stuff like that. And you know,
that might be the Colorado shown in me a little bit.
(17:35):
But but I mean, I just think that there's a
lot more productive things you can do.
Speaker 5 (17:39):
Not that it's a bad thing.
Speaker 6 (17:41):
I've just noticed there are times I'll be on the
couch and I'm scrolling and instead of going and doing
something productive, I'm just scrolling for thirty minutes, and I'm like,
I've watched nothing but Shane Gillis videos for thirty minutes straight,
Like what am I doing here?
Speaker 2 (17:52):
What do you like to do outside of football?
Speaker 6 (17:54):
You know, I'm I'm all over. You know, I like
to golf. You know, not a good golfer, but I'm
like to be out there.
Speaker 5 (18:02):
Golf.
Speaker 6 (18:02):
You know, I've gotten into hunting a little bit this
past year. Uh, that's that's been awesome. And uh really
just traveled a little bit in the off season, but
you know, for the most part, I'm just out here
in Colorado training with h. You know, the group of
guys we always get together in the off season and
you know we'll do that, have some poker nights and
really just be soaking up the off season and getting
ready for the season.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
What do you know about the tight end room here?
Do you know any of the guys?
Speaker 5 (18:27):
Yes, so, you know, Juwan hit me up a little bit.
Speaker 6 (18:29):
I've talked to him a little and h he's been
He seems like a phenomenal dude.
Speaker 5 (18:34):
I can't wait to get around him.
Speaker 6 (18:35):
And actually, Foster, I've met him at the tight end
you that they put on every single summer, and you
know he's he's a phenomenal guy too. And you know,
I haven't met Taysoum. You know, I've heard again phenomenal guy.
And one thing I know is that Chase is going
to get that group together, We're gonna have a great
time and it'll be awesome. So I could not be
(18:57):
happier with the room that we got. It seems like
a group of guys that yell really well together and
you know, hopefully all go in there and help help
make make everything jeling and better.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
Yeah, what's the plan for the off season. You're going
to be here for OTAs and everything?
Speaker 5 (19:10):
Oh yeah, I'll be.
Speaker 6 (19:11):
There for OTAs and uh, you know, get get to
see you know, New Orleans a little bit more instead
of just coming in for a weekend and doing stuff
like that. But yeah, so I'll be here for OTAs
and I'm really looking forward to just seeing what the
city has has to offer and getting everything ready as
far as playing ball.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
Awesome. Thank you so much for the time. Look forward
to actually meeting you in person and having you here
sounds great.
Speaker 5 (19:33):
Eric appreciate you.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
Isaak. It's awesome to have you back here with the Saints.
When the news broke, I'm sure everybody remembered the great season,
the time that you had here with the Saints. When
you look back, what stood out to you the most?
Speaker 5 (19:45):
I loved it.
Speaker 7 (19:46):
I was able to play in that defense in that secondary.
I felt like we had a lot of swag in
that secondary, you know, playing with guys like tay Led
and deebo, I had a lot of fun. I got
a chance to learn from guys. Tim Ran that I
played with is still there. I'm excited to get back
and finish off where I left off.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
What's different about you? Now? What do we need to know?
Catch us up?
Speaker 7 (20:10):
I mean, I just got another year of experience in
the NFL. So that's the only thing that I'm grateful,
thankful for, and I'm grateful for so I feel like
I know a little bit more. I got a chance
to play in a different division in the NFC, see
a lot of different offenses again, So I felt like
that helped me as a player.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
You had a career year with three takeaways. What was
working well for you?
Speaker 7 (20:32):
Just doing what I do best, you know what I mean,
Just trying to run to the football, Just trying to
be at the right place at the right time, you know,
just just hustling, you know what I mean, Just trying
to be everywhere I can be, Just trying to finish
every single play. And I think that that's the same
mentality I had and I always had and I'm gonna
continue to have that.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
You talked about the defense when you were here prior
in twenty twenty two, twenty three. A couple of those
players not here anymore, But how can you keep that
same swag?
Speaker 7 (20:58):
For sure? I know that the secondary is usually the
strength of the defense with New Orleans. So you know,
I know having a Lotte there is really cool because
that's the first person I call when I signed. I
have my helmet on and I facetimed him. I still
got my same tallement and I face timed him right away,
so I know, you know, he got his whole little thing.
He brings a lot of swag to the table. So
(21:20):
you know what I mean. Just I feel like we
go and make each other better with that. Just it
just feeds off each other's energy. One person make a play,
another person got to make a play, you know what
I mean? You get an interception, Tag gonna get an interception, Tay,
go and get one. Now we got kool aid in
the mix. I'm excited to work with everybody.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
You've obviously kept up with the team since you've been gone,
So looking at what is here, and because Brandon Staley
is now the defensive coordinator is somebody that you worked
with with last at the forty nine ers. What do
you think the defense is going to look like.
Speaker 7 (21:50):
I can't say exactly what it's going to look like now.
I just know that we're gonna be physical, We're gonna
be fast. We still got Pete and d d at linebacker,
so you already know what was coming over there. And
then we got a breeze steal, Cam Grando, all those
guys that have been playing a lot of football for
a long time. So we're gonna run to the football.
Speaker 5 (22:08):
We're gonna hit.
Speaker 7 (22:09):
Hard, and that's something that's part the part of the Saints' identity,
and that's something that we're gonna continue to build on.
Speaker 2 (22:15):
What's the first thing you got to do when you
get back to town.
Speaker 7 (22:18):
First thing I already did when I got back into
town is I hit Drago's right away. First thing, I
went to the facility, I got some stuff done done,
got to the hotel, put some shoes on, and walked
right over. It's the first thing I did.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
I have to get those oysters right.
Speaker 7 (22:32):
I couldn't wait. I missed it.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
With the excitement that it seems like you have to
be back here. The fact that you put on a
Saints helmet to call Alante. When you got the phone
call and realize this is where you're going to be
for the upcoming season, what were the emotions like?
Speaker 7 (22:48):
Yeah, you know, the emotions was kind of It was
kind of chill because you know, just the whole entire
free agency process. You know, you talk to different teams
and stuff like that, but I knew where I wanted
to be. Kind of explain it to my representatives, my team.
I kind of told them where I wanted to be,
so I really didn't panic. I kind of knew one
way or another, I don't know how it was going
(23:08):
to look, but I was going to.
Speaker 5 (23:09):
End up there.
Speaker 7 (23:10):
So I was happy that they got it to work.
And the first thing he told me was I got
you exactly what you wanted. And I was like, perfect,
let's go.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
Why was this the place you wanted to be?
Speaker 7 (23:21):
I just loved I loved everything about New Orleans. I
love playing in that defense. I feel like I just
feel like being a part of that defense and being
around those guys, it just made me so much better.
I feel like everybody in that room is so competitive
and I think we feed off each other's energy. I
had a lot of success there, and it's just something
about wearing all that black, running out the tunnel, coming
(23:43):
out the dome. It's nothing like it. It's no stadium
like it. So it's a feeling that, you know what
I mean, I craved and I'm glad I get to
have a bag. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
I looked at your Instagram. You don't post a lot,
but you did post a couple times about the Saints,
so there weren't that many, and I don't think they're
any posts from last season. So I was like, I
feel like the Saints hold a special place in his heart.
Speaker 7 (24:04):
Yeah, so I don't. Yeah, I don't post too much.
I don't post too much, but there was a couple
of videos that was good not to post, so I
did have to post that yo, And like I said that,
all black looks really good, so made my feed look nice.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
Off the field, anything that you've been getting into, how's
the off season looking like?
Speaker 7 (24:22):
Off season is good. I'm just training, training, training, hanging
out with my family, just trying to get better, getting
ready for next year. And that's pretty much it. Traveling
a little bit and it's just getting right back to it.
Speaker 2 (24:35):
Any fun trips.
Speaker 7 (24:36):
I kind of been a little bit everywhere. I try
to get away on the weekends. Yeah, I'm going to
one of my buddy's weddings in Amnguila this weekend. My
buddy from the Seahawks letting Williams. I'm really excited about that,
one of my good friends.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
Yeah, that'll be a nice destination wedding for sure. I'm jealous. Well,
where is your home base in Florida?
Speaker 7 (24:55):
I lived down in South Florida and I trained down here.
Got a good group of guys I trained with, and
I'm excited to keep going.
Speaker 2 (25:02):
Yeah, anybody that you're going to be linking up with
from the Saints over the offseason.
Speaker 7 (25:06):
I did tell Tay that we were going to get
some working together. I saw kool aid last week, I
think Friday when I signed. That night, I got back
here and we went to the Heat game together. They
played the Celtics and we were hanging out talking a
little bit. So we're going get together and get some
work into.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
So they're already developing some camaraderie with some of the
new newer members in the secondary, and of course there
will be a couple other ones. What do you know
about some of the new guys that are going to
be here, Like Justin Reed who just signed.
Speaker 7 (25:35):
I know he's a good player, He's had a lot
of success in his career. I don't know personally, but
having him and Tea back there, that's going to be fun,
you know what I mean? Playing with guys like that
who have so much experience, they've played, they played together,
I think, right, so they have a connection. They're both
from Louisiana. It just brings even more swag to the
identity of our secondary And I'm excited to be a part.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
Of offensively with Kellen Moore as the head coach. Seeing
what he's done a little bit over the last several
years in the league as an offensive coordinator, what do
you like about what he's done?
Speaker 7 (26:08):
You know what I mean? Just uh, watching the last
team he coached, Philly last year, you know, they did
a little bit of everything. They did a good job
running the ball, they did a good job passing the ball.
They obviously his last game was in the super Dome
they won a Super Bowl. So I'm excited for the
success that he brings to the table. I think the
offense is gonna look really good this year, low mix
(26:29):
of everything. I'm excited they gonna make us better during
camp and OTA, so I can't wait to watch them.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
Role awesome catching up with you. Congratulations again on coming
back and look forward to seeing you around here.
Speaker 7 (26:39):
Thank you, see you soon.
