Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello everyone, and welcome to still another edition of the
NFL Draft Triple Take, presented by U P M C
Mike pursued at Dale Lally Matt Williamson with you again.
We've gone through the positions. We've gone through the positions again,
and if you were with us last time, you found
out what we think of the offensive prospects in terms
of the top ten one through ten, or as we

(00:22):
like to present it, ten counting it down to one.
We're gonna do it on the defensive side of the
ball today, and the offense we were kind of all
I wouldn't say all over the place, but we had
some different faces in some different places. Uh. Defensively, Matt, Uh,
it's hard to imagine we're not going to align these
guys up pretty close. Uh the same way. Yeah, And

(00:43):
this side of the ball is just flat out better.
To be honest, when you do an exercise like this,
you can you can tell right away. Like my number
ten guy, I'm sitting here thinking, boy, he may have
been third or fourth on my offensive list, you know.
And so there was a lot of good players we
left I left off my top ten as well. This
is a really good group that it is Dale. Why

(01:05):
don't you uh lead us off with your number ten? Okay,
at ten, I have a linebacker, Devin Lloyd out of
Utah and and the ten spot was tough. Actually nine
intim were tough on this list because I probably left
about eight guys off of here that they easily could
have been on. But Devin Lloyd just makes plays all
over the place at every level, and so there's a

(01:27):
lot to like there with him. I think if you
look at both he and Kyle Hamilton's I don't know
that there's a lot of difference there between the two players,
except one has an ask beside his name and the
other one as an LB. Uh. I mean they're both long, uh,
physical players who can make plays at all three levels.
And and you know, I think Lloyd's gonna be a
good football player. Doesn't take false steps, just makes plays.

(01:50):
I've got him number eight on my list. And he
did run unofficial four seven one four seven four at
the combine It was four or six six of official
and Daniel Jeremiah poo poo that on the NFL network.
He said, this guy's like Darius Leonard. He plays much
much faster than he runs. Uh, that's another one. I'm

(02:12):
not gonna overthink it. If you tell me a guy
plays like Darius Leonard good enough for my team and
off the ball linebacker, Matt, why don't you clusen on
your number ten? Yeah, Lloyd? I actually in the right up.
I said Lloyd was my eleven. You know, I hated
leaving him off. I left David a Jabo off too,
which made my list a little easier because of his
only because of his Achilles injury. I did not too.

(02:34):
I would not have otherwise if he was healthy. Her
on the right actually made this project a little easier,
and that got Dax Hill on here at number ten.
Who Day and I talked about, you know what we
talked about on the drive a lot, and Dax Hill
is getting a lot of airtime on the drive, and
we both have fallen in love with him. I mean,
he is an elite athlete, a Michigan guy, a job was,

(02:55):
you know, teammate. I'm just gonna call him a defensive back.
I mean he's listed as a safety, but he can
play the slot. I'm not sure he's on outside corner
if he wanted. Oh man, He's really an exciting player
and as I kind of preference to start. You mentioned
the preference to start the show. I think I take
hell over everyone on my offensive list except for maybe

(03:15):
three guys. I like him so good I have him
at nine. Actually, Uh, for a guy that a lot
of people weren't talking about when this draft process started,
I mean, he turned on the tape of him. You
see him playing deep safety, you see him lining up.
He had like five hundred snaps in the slot last year.
I mean, he's gonna see he's gonna immediately come in
and starts a nickel corner right out of the gate,

(03:39):
whether he can, whether he plays any safety or not.
So there's a lot to like there with this guy.
And he's got size. I mean, how many of these
slot cornerbacks you guys who are capable of playing the
slot or six ft and a d nine pounds. I mean,
he's just he's a special player. My number ten is
a quarterback, Trent McDuffie from Washington. Uh, guy who everybody loves.

(04:01):
All the teams wanted to talk to him at the combine.
And he's got on field, he's got upstairs, a coach
on the field, rep Uh, not too much doubt about
his bona fides. Uh, Matt, you've got him at number nine. Uh.
My number nine is Jermaine Johnson, the second the edge
from Florida State. Um. Good thing he got out of

(04:23):
Georgia because he looked like he could dominate anywhere but Georgia.
My number eight is Lloyd We talked about him. Matt,
you've got Johnson at eight and Dale. Uh, you've got
Jordan Davis of George as your number eight defensive prospect. Yeah.
And again it was tough slotting these guys, but I
think Davis um, you know, as a true nose tackle type. Uh,

(04:47):
He's not gonna be for everybody, but you know, you
go to the combine, he run a four seven eight
forty at six six three at forty one pounds. I'm
pretty sure you've got enough explosiveness to play on passing
down in the NFL, if if your team so chooses
to use you in that in that fashion, he played
last year three sixty pounds. He got down to three

(05:07):
forty one for the combine. I think he he realizes
that's where he needs to be at and just a
lot to like, there's a guy who can plug the
middle of your defense. Yeah, I'm a big fan. I've
got him at number seven, um, and yeah, I don't.
I don't care about the pass rush. The guy's a

(05:28):
human run stuffing machine. To me. He makes plays at
the edge, he makes plays in the middle. Uh he can,
he can go forward and disrupt if he develops a
pass rush. Great, But uh, I took him at seven
and night. I'm a little surprised I didn't have the
higher than that. Matt, your number seven is a really
interesting guy. Cavon Thibodeaux of Oregon. Yeah, and one one

(05:49):
last Davis note to you said he makes plays all over.
I mean he'll make plays on the sidelines, even when
he lines up with nose. I mean, when he starts running.
I mean, he's like a herd account there's there's no
stopping that means. And even the pass rush stuff, Mike,
I mean, even if he's not a super developed pass rusher,
if he takes a center and the guard to deal

(06:10):
with as he starts walking back to the quarterback, other
guys are gonna make plays, you know. So I'm not
super worried about that. UM. I have Thibodeau at seven.
As you mentioned, I had no idea where to put him.
I almost left him off the list, to be honest
with you, just because of all the things you read.
And I hate to scout that way because I would
love to sit down with him and see what he's

(06:31):
you know, what makes him tick? Um. You know, he
was this monster recruit. Everyone a year ago thought he
was the first overall pick. And I see some of
those traits, but I don't. I also don't see the
bend of a von Miller or you know that I
expected from him. I thought I'd watch this table like,
holy cow, it's this guy unbelievably talented. But if he hits,
he'll hit big. My number six is Ahmad Garner, quarterback

(06:55):
from Cincinnati. I think you guys like him a little
bit uh more than I do. If him, uh I
got him a number one, he's one for me too.
You know one thing, one thing about him. You can't
base it on production because nobody threw out him. No no, no,
I mean he didn't. He didn't give up a touchdown
his entire college career. His career. I mean, you would

(07:18):
think as a freshman, hey, we're gonna we're gonna throw
at this freshman over here and see if we can
get something. Give up nothing. I mean, he's a really
clean prospect. I just think there's a lot there to
like with this guy. A six three cornerback that can run.
I mean, he's he's my number one. It's funny. I

(07:40):
volunteered a year at Duquesne before I was hired to pit,
and we had Lee Bauden and Lee Bowden didn't belong
at Duquete, and it was kind of like this feeling
like it didn't matter who they trotted out oppositely, nobody
was throwing his direction and a thousand years and I
got that feeling with Gardner too, like why am I
throwing at the best guy in the field at six three?
That's a pre spind corner with long arms, and it's

(08:01):
a great player. Matt, you and I have a Dirk
Stingley junior cornerback l s U at number five. Understand
it with some health issues. Understand there's been some inconsistency issues,
but I am shooting for the high ceiling, and uh,
I know this guy can cover Jamar Chase, not one
I gotta overthink. I've seen the video. He was all
over him a couple of years ago down in bat

(08:23):
Tom Rouge. Uh find that guy developed. That guy, you're
a pretty good shape. Yeah. He's also the youngest of
all the quarter corners that are definitely gonna get drafted
in this class. As much as I just said great
about Gardner, who's my one, it wouldn't shock me at
all two years from now if we redid this list
of Stingley's one. I mean, he may be the best
quarter in the league before you know it. Yeah, I've

(08:44):
actually got him at two on my list. And I
mean again, go go watch the video of him covering
Jamar Chase two years ago or three years ago. Jamar
Chase couldn't shake him, couldn't shake him, and that guy
was Stingley was a true freshman. So, uh, there's a
there's just a lot there to like. He went to
his pro day and and kind of alleviated any of

(09:05):
those concerns about his speed in that foot injury that
he had. He ran four four Uh, good size cornerback.
I mean, Stingley and Gardner are guys just you know,
you can you talk about eat drafts, uh and comparing
drafts other drafts. Those two guys are going at the
top of the corner backboard in any draft. They'll uh

(09:26):
you're you're five is Trayvon Walker Edge Georgia? And then uh,
I've got him significantly higher. But tell us why you
picked hip number five? Well, you know what I mean,
you had to put him in somewhere. I like the
I like the defensive backs, as I said one and
two with with Gardner and Stingley, because I think they're
really special players. Uh, there's a lot of edge rushers
in this draft. Walker six five two seventy two pounds.

(09:48):
He kind of reminds me of an athletic version of
Bud Dupree, even more athletic than dupre if you can
imagine that. So that's pretty good already at six five
to seventy two. But where were you know? And I
get that he played at Georgia, so that so you know,
he was racing everybody else to the ball, but he
didn't have the production that you'd like to see out
of that position. And you know, maybe maybe he'll be

(10:10):
a better pro Matt. You have, Uh, Aidan Hutchinson second. Uh,
Dale's got him fourth. I've got him fourth. Why uh
do most people seemingly perceive Hutchinson to clearly be better
than Walker? What when we look at these marks all
over the place, the ones I see of Hutchinson going

(10:32):
uh first round to jacksonvill Why why is it not
more of an even split it tren He brought that
up because this is certainly lying season. You know, everything
you read or here take with a grain of salt
because put people are putting false information out left and right.
And I'm not disputing what you say, because I've seen
all those moks too. I think there's more and more
buzz that Walker could go first overall. I mean, just

(10:54):
because of the traits, you know, and the depending how
much your coaches are involved in the process. Coach is
one Walker, you know, I mean the front office people
want Hutchinson. I think he's a little safer you know where.
You know. Dale's point about Walker's lack of production is
very real, I mean' is worrisome. Um, Hutchinson has the
production kind of played a different position though, right A

(11:15):
little bit, yeah, a little bit. I mean, why don't
they dropping the cover joints in a while? In the
pros he might be Hutchinson, uh, you know, playing that
attack the pocket from the edge and you may see
some stuff. Uh. Number three on Dale's list is Kyle
Hamilton's notre dame. He's number four on Matt's list. He's
number two on Mike's list. I have Thibodeaux at three again.

(11:36):
I'm I'm shooting Ford Moon and upside and I don't
care about red flags and injury and all that's I'm
projecting that five years from now everything is gonna work
out and these guys are gonna be as good as
I think they could be, because that's always the way
it works. Absolutely absolutely easy hit that ever gets fired either.
That's just Hamilton's mesmerizes me. And it's not like he

(12:00):
made every play and it's not like he tested off
the charts, but he just I mean he he really
looks the part. To me, he does, and you know,
I know people are caught up. Well, he only ran
a four or five nine forty at least six pounds,
so his his four or five nine forty is like
a five eleven guy running a four four five forty

(12:21):
because he covers so much ground with his body. I mean,
you gotta throw the ball over top of this guy,
and you just can't do it because he's so darn big.
And then he's two twenty pounds. I mean, he's he's basically,
you know, a chess piece that you can put wherever.
I like I talked about when we talked with Lloyd
Well talked about Lloyd these guys. You know, if you
put an LB beside Hamilton's name, would anybody flinch? No?

(12:43):
Because he's yeah, you talk, He's got really good speed.
I mean he's just a playmaker, that's all he is.
The Other thing about Hamilton's two I keep mentioning these ages.
He just turned twenty one, like last week or so.
So a year or two from now, is he gonna
be six four two and order six four to thirty?
I mean there, he's a big framed guy. It just

(13:05):
makes a ton of a ton of plays. Dale's got
the Stingley at two and Gardner at one. As he mentioned, Matt,
looking at your number two, it's Hutchinson Gardner number one.
I've got Hamilton's number two, and my number one is
Trayvon Walker. Uh. If you guys remember our last mock draft,

(13:26):
I had him going first overall to Jacksonville because again
the chest beast thing to me, uh, position list football
and the trend that you know, you want to align
the guy here and there confused the quarterback. I just
I think he's gonna have better numbers in the NFL
than he did at college because I think in college
they wanted him doing a certain job because they had
a lot of other guys that at that level will

(13:47):
relatively equal. I think when he gets to the NFL
will maybe be better, uh than a lot of the
guys around him, particularly if he's gonna be an early pick.
I can't just agree with that. I mean, yeah, I
mean we've seen that from some other guys, you know,
where Shawn Garry out of Michigan was a guy that
had no stats and has played pretty well for the Packers.
You know, we saw it with o a last year

(14:08):
who went to the Ravens Um you know, had it
was better as a as an NFL player than he
was in college. Yeah. I can't believe I'm saying that
the stats don't matter, because that that used to meet
a great deal to me, But not not so much anymore.
Not that you know, you can't base it all on
forty times or vertical leaps either, but uh, when those
things meshed together, you got a pretty good football player. Yeah,

(14:29):
and then you get some good tape behind it, and
that's why you make the top ten list on offense
or defense from the Triple Take. Guys, Uh, that's gonna
do it for this edition. Want to thank everybody from
