Holy smokes, are you kidding?
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Leo Williams.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
It's gonna take it in for a touchdown. Shay Hawks

here's your host, Jen Mueller.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
We are broadcasting from the Seahawks Podcast Studio presented by Sony,
an official partner of the Seattle Seahawks.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Jen Mueller and John Boyle with you.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
And if it sounds like there's a little extra excitement
in my voice, John, there most certainly is we.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
Can plan our falls.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
We can plan our falls.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
I have to say that when it comes to NFL
dates on the calendar, my favorite one by far is
Week one. You're standing on the sidelines like national anthem plays.
That's my favorite day of the football season.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Yeah, a very very close second they released the schedule.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
Yes, we have known for a long time who the
opponents are, but you always want to know how it's
going to stand.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
Up, where you're going to be win who you know,
what are the matchups certain weeks.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
When do I get a bye week? When do we
play on Thursday? You know, very important things exactly. And
what were your initial reactions when.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
You saw the release?
Speaker 1 (01:29):
You know, big picture, I like it is just like
it feels like a very fair and like pretty even
schedule where you don't you know, some years you get
that brutal stretch of like, you know, three tough division
games on the road in a five week span, or
you play three teams coming off their bye week, or
you know, last year we have the Monday Sunday Thursday,
which was pretty tough on guys. There's really none of that.
(01:51):
This year. It's you know, yeah, you have a couple
of stretches with back to back road games late in
the year, but overall it feels pretty balanced and there's
there's not a lot to complain about.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Yeah, well I can find things to go and if
we really wanted to, but balanced was absolute.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
A preseason game. We can complain about that, but is.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
A little tricky. That's a little tricky humid. I know,
I would love that, but that's okay, that's that's okay.
It's Green Bay is a legacy city as I think
about it.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Right, great place to visit, and it is the history
all that. I just I will be.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Saving up for beer and cheese. It's fine. I know
how to plan. That does as one does.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
Overall, big picture for this schedule, as John mentioned, it
is really balanced. This is one of the years though
that the Seahawks are going to play nine road games
eight at home, so that's a little bit different. The
bye week falling right in the middle of the season.
It's week eight, so again to your point, perfect and
as it stands right now, you've got a Thursday night
game in week four. You have a Thursday night game
(02:51):
on the schedule late in December, so you get those
little mini buyes. I know the guys don't really call
it that because it is brutal on your body going in,
but you've got a nice little break built in at
the beginning of the season and towards the end of
the season on that win. And I kind of like
the symmetry of having San Francisco at book beginning.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
At the end, I do kind of a good test
for both teams, like where are we in week one
and where are we seventeen weeks later?
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Well, and it's the interesting conversation with San Francisco based
on strength of schedule from opponents last year, supposedly the
forty nine ers have the easiest schedule of any team
in the ENNA, and.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
Part of that is them finishing it in last place,
so those like opponent games, they get what you know,
you would call last place schedule. So some of the
easier ones, but as we know, playing the whole last
year's results game, it doesn't work because someone on this schedule,
where we can look at somebody's late season games like oh,
you know, the Colts, the Panthers, these teams weren't good
less like somebody I promise you in those last few
(03:52):
weeks that we're looking at. Doesn't seem like a good
team is going to be a playoff contender, and somebody
that we think is really good probably won't be. That's
just the nature of the NFL. There's a lot of
swings from year to year, So trying to base it
based off what we saw a year ago is always
kind of a cools errand.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
Yes, and so much is going to happen during the
course of the season.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
I mean, I'm thinking back to Week one last year,
and you never want to put too much emphasis on
week one, right because there's a lot of things that
could happen. I do feel like there will be a
little bit more pressure week one coming out of the
gates with a division opponent. But last year, remember it
was Denver and you're like, oh, man, I don't know,
it was a new quarterback. I don't know how that's
going to play out. Turns out you hit Denver at
(04:31):
the right time of the year because they got pretty.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
Hot there in the middle.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
They made the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
And yeah, now that game did not turn out to
right sink you in a division race. It was nice
that you get the win, but also like that one
Week one against San fran you're gonna need to You're
gonna need to jump on that pretty quickly.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
Yeah, I mean, I don't like to call any game
like must win because you lose that one and you
want a whole bunch of other ones and nobody cares.
But anytime it's a division game, yeah, that's got that
little extra meaning because it's not just you know, if
you lose that game, it's not as you lost it.
It's a division opponent got to win on you. So yeah,
it's a it's going to be a really exciting start.
San Francisco's obviously team that feels like what they did
(05:12):
last year is not reflective of who they are as
a team, and they want to come out and show
that they're back. And the Seahawks want to come out
and show that they're building off a strong finish to
twenty twenty four and even better than they were last
year when they won ten games.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
So, without going too much further in that division conversation,
so at San Francisco, it's Arizona. Those are the two
division opponents before the bye week. Let's just take a
look at the schedule overall right now, as it stands,
four primetime games for the Seahawks, two one Thursday night,
one Monday Night football, one Sunday Night football.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
With a huge caveat. There's a lot of asterisks on this.
I've just got my ship that week five on that's wild.
That is crazy. That is crazy.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
And so for as much as I think I know
what the schedule in the ball list we actually have.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
We don't know what happened in week seventeen or eighteen.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
So no, no, we do know that you're going to
finish on the road with two road games. One of
those another cross country road trip.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
You know, would Seymour daunting if not for the fact
that this team went seven and one on the road
last year. And you think going east ten AM, I mean,
you've been around this team long enough to know that
was just the death now. I mean for years it was,
you know, four ten AM games, you might win one
of them, and now you know, going back really to
like twenty thirteen, that's not been a problem for this team.
(06:26):
They've got five on the schedule right now. That Carolina
game that's EBD very well could be a ten AM game.
Six have won nineteen of their last twenty four games
in that time slot, going back to twenty eighteen, So
it's not last year. That's not a problem for this
team anymore. Gonie playing early.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
Talk about going east, we are doing that a lot.
I mean that was my initial reaction.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
I'm kind of looking at it and I knew who
the opponents were, right, but you kind of forget about
it right, you see it, and then you start mapping
this out and I'm like, oh my gosh, how much
time are we spending on a plane?
Speaker 1 (06:58):
I can tell you, John, how many miles jen.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
Thirty one, three hundred and two miles.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
It seems like a lot.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
It seems like a lot. In fact, it is third
most in the NFL. Yes, the only two teams who
have more miles that they will travel are the Rams
and the Chargers.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
And they both play internationally. That's right, ended up going
to London or Germany or anywhere else this year, Dublin.
They they'd be leading the way in miles. Again. Yes,
it's what we get where we live. We're kind of
isolated up here in what Matt Hasselback used to call
South Alaska.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
That is true, and we have figured out how to
make this work in the Seahawks favor. As you pointed out,
I'm looking at some of these opponents outside of the
division that are going to be a nice little reunion
I think, or maybe kind of like and maybe it's
not a reunion.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
Maybe it's just kind of like fans like to revenge.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
But like Tyler Lockett's one of those, he can't there's
I mean, he's too nice to have a revenge.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
But yeah, Bobby Wagner might have a game, and not
because he doesn't love Seattle, but that's the way he's wired.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
I mean that that game he played for the Rams
against that was the best game you played all year.
But yeah, I mean, you get Bobby Wagner, you get
DK Metcalf in week two, you got hy to Lockett.
When you go to Tennessee late in the season, you
will see who am I forgetting Well, Cooper Cup and
Sam Donald will see their former teams this year, so
it kind of goes both ways. A lot of a
lot of fun reunion games.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
I kind of like it.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
Yeah, we've got Tennessee November twenty third, then it's back
home Minnesota. I really hope that Sam Darnald just challenges challenges, Nope, channels.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
There we go.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
That's what I was looking for all season long at Lumenfield.
What he did last week last year when the Vikings
came to town. Yeah, that would be game all year long,
and your last division opponent game it is San Francisco.
But also you're going to play the Rams at home
Thursday night late December.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
Yeah that I mean any again going back to the
conversation of every division game really counts, but a primetime
game Week sixteen against the team that won the division
last year, and you know, should very much be in
the conversation this year. That feels like one that you
can look ahead now and know is going to be
big well and.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
For somebody who's going to stand on the sidelines in
those games, whether could definitely be a factor December eighteenth
in that primetime game. Weather could also be a factor
in San Francisco, the final game of the season. Outside
of that, you shouldn't have too many weather concerns Tennessee outdoors.
That could be something interesting late November, but I don't
(09:35):
really think Carolina could be cold. But you're not really
looking at extreme weather like having some of those other
ones in your this right now is.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
The difference between someone who covers the game on the
sideline and in the press box. I'm like, oh, yeah,
I hadn't really thought of that.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
No, I'm always looking to see where are we when it.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
Is going to be cold out Truly, you asked players
what they look at. It's like you want to know
if you have Green Bay, Chicago or whatever on your schedule.
You're like, okay, when is that game? Es you hope
it's not in December?
Speaker 2 (10:05):
Yes, And you know which ones will really trip you up,
Jacksonville and Tampa Bay, because you'll look at those and
be like, oh, it's fine, it might be a little
bit cloudy, it might be a little rainy.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
Two of the coldest games I've.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
Ever stood a jackson name in twenty was that twenty sixteen.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
Awful de ice the plane when we left Yeah.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
Yeah, or and to wait for the DCE get that
was a whole big story. So overall, we feel like
this is a pretty balanced schedule.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
Yeah, no, I just don't think, you know, there's there's
not a lot to complain about. You only catch one
team coming off there bye, that's the Houston Monday night game.
And even that, okay, they're come off their bye, but
with a Monday game, you still get one extra day rest.
So there's just there's you know, mid season by Like
we said, you know, there's not really a lot to
look at and say, oh, the league really hurts you
with that schedule.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
You know what's interesting about that Houston game?
Speaker 1 (10:54):
Seven pm?
Speaker 3 (10:55):
It's seven pm.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
I had to do a double take when I read that.
So it's the game of a doubleheader.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
It is the latest game played in franchise history, which
surprises me a little bit. I'm used to seven o'clock
baseball games. But you're right, NFL games here just don't
start at seven o'clock because your viewership will have to
stay up on the East Coast until midnight.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
Yeah right, you figured that it's probably a competitive advantage
for the Seahawks because your opponents, for their body clock,
that game's kicking off at nine pm. So you know,
it might help you a little bit, it could.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
It might help me get a little extra sleep ahead
of that one. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
Hey, if you were planning to go to any of
the Seahawks games home or away, you know what you
might need. You might need some noise canceling headphones, especially
in some of those stadiums.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
I'm thinking the rams they really crank up going. They
got a lot going on.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
There's a lot going on, which is why this NFL
season feel every play, every hit, every moment with the
Sony one thousand XM five noise canceling headphones, the official
headphones of the Seattle Seahawks with premium noise cancelation. You
are in the zone, no distractions, just or football. Whether
you were in your living room or on the go,
you will never miss a beat with Sony headphones. You
(12:05):
know what I would like to use the Sony headphones
for right now? What's that to play the Seahawks schedule
release video over.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
And over again? Oh my gosh, can.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
Yeah, we got props today if you haven't watched the video.
First of all, pauses podcast, go watch the video. It's amazing.
Our creative team did some great work this year. Second
of all, it has some action figures. It has a
replica Kingdome bathroom for those two young or who did
not live here the Kingdom had or who.
Speaker 3 (12:34):
Never went into the men's bath.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Yeah. To be quite honest with you, John, I mean like, well,
there's a large segment of our listening audience, but one of.
Speaker 1 (12:41):
Never Fatto's beautiful circular sync that you stepped on a
foot pedal to make go that. You know, the women's
had that too. But then yeah, the trough urinals, the
overflowing garbage can it's you know, it's great, but yeah,
go watch the video again. It's it's great. A lot
of little nuggets in there.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
You know what, I'm actually laughing about. This feels a
lot to me like the whole release video.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
I totally get it because it's also celebrating the fiftieth
season of the right so there's a lot.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
It's awesome.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
And here's what I keep thinking, how many conversations are
you going to have to have with your girls explaining
what exactly is in that video, whether it's like the
action figures or even like this is what a bathroom
used to look like. Yeah, it's almost like describing what
a record player was.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
Phone to attached to the wall. They're young enough. I
don't know if they're going to drive. I think about that.
We're getting off topic here. Their cars might just all
drive themselves by the time they're also, that could have
gone a couple of different ways. You're right, they might
not ever drive. I mean I feel like we're heading
that direction. I'm going to make them drive. We have
an old stick shift.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
I'm going to make them see that's another that's a
life skill. Yes, that is a life skill. So we
know where we're heading the season, and we know that
we are celebrating fifty seasons of the Seahawks.
Speaker 3 (14:03):
I am not at all going to try to predict outcomes.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
Come on, let's do I am not doing.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
We don't even know who the quarterback is going to
be for Week two for the Steelers.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
That's a good point.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
That is going to throw off my estimation quite a bit.
And then I'm going to be off track. What I'm
going to ask is, do you have a favorite place
that we are traveling to?
Speaker 1 (14:26):
There we go, shout out to Delta. You can book
some travel with them if you want to go to
these road games as well.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
Yes, and just meet us up wherever we're going to
be around town.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
I will say Pittsburgh underrated city. Yes, think a lot
of people just think the Midwest and don't get excited
about it. But we've been there a couple of times recents,
especially in September when the weather's good. Yep, you got
you know the Rivers right there. Unfortunately the Pirates are
out of town that weekend. I already look that up
because that's a great ballpark. But yeah, I mean Washington, Yeah,
that's the one I was looking at. That's one to circle.
(14:58):
I mean, so much fun to be had in that city.
And if you're into history, obviously, so much history in
that city. So that's that's a really good one, you know.
But yeah, that's yeah. I like I like getting on
the road in general.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
I do too.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
I do too.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
And you know, we spent time in Tennessee last year
in the preseason, so I feel like I kind of
got my Nashville fix.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
I can always spend more time there.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
And I'll tell you what, I'd rather not be there
in August, Like we're gonna go in the weather's a
little more bearable.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
Again, there's a lot of hope it could be.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
There was a lot of sweating last time, a lot
of sweating.
Speaker 3 (15:28):
I would predict a lot less sweating.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
Yet, if I'm fine if it's cold, Look it can
be cold. I'm fine with that.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
Again, says the person who's not standing on the sideline
during Again.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
I'm just picturing you going out on Saturday and checking
out the town. Yes, that's a jacket on, But I.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Do agree with you Washington because right now, that's a
primetime game, so you get all of Saturday to explore Washington.
You get a little extra time on Sunday morning, you
can watch a little bit of football, and then.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
You heads at the stadium.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
That's that's gonna be fun.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
That's gonna be until we get back. I was yah
to say, We're not even gonna to think of the
other side of that one. And the folks at home
don't care because we will have won and it will
be great.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
And when you win, they.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
Don't care about ours.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
They don't they care.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
You care.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
I know that you do.
Speaker 1 (16:11):
They don't. I care about my own children, don't care
about my sleep. So clearly, based off the history of
the years that I've had children, they care about sep ungrateful,
they really are.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
That is terrible. We are going off topic. We should
just wrap up this conversation. We should just wrap this
conversation up. Look, we hope that you have marked this
on your calendar, that you are going to join us
for some road games that you are planning your hometail gates.
We are going to talk football the next time we
join you for another edition of the Seahawks Insiders podcast.
