Speaker 2 (00:30):
Now here's your host, Nasa Chobie.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Welcome into another edition of Hawk Talk. We are broadcasting
from the Seahawks Podcast Studio, presented by Sony, the official
partner of the Seattle Seahawks. Bump And Unfortunately, we were
hoping to still be working this week, getting ready for
a playoff game at Lumenfield against those Vikings. Unfortunately the
Seahawks are not playing in the postseason.

Speaker 5 (00:55):
You still working, I ain't working. You still whim you're
still some work being?

Speaker 4 (00:58):
Then? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Sure, I see you know, I guess buddy, like we're good,
but no, twenty twenty four was a wild ride, right.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
A lot of things happened this time.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
Last January, Seahawks moved on from legendary head coach Pe
Carol after a fourteen year run of success. Then they
hired Mike McDonald and began a new air in Seattle. Now,
like we said, the Seahawks didn't make this playoffs, but
you can't say this year was any success. Let's just
look at some of the highlights under first year under
coach McDonald ten and seven record. Anytime you get to
double digit wins, that's a big thing. Mike McDonald passed

(01:27):
Chuck Knox and Mike Homgrian for the most wins by
a first year Seahawks head coach with ten. The Seahawks
achieved their fourteenth double digit win season in franchise history,
first since twenty twenty and the Seahawks tied the best
road record in franchise history at seven to one in
the longest road winning streak at six games.

Speaker 4 (01:44):
Bump.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
But what stood out to me the most about anything
about this team was how they improved on defense.

Speaker 4 (01:49):
Yeah, defense was on point.

Speaker 5 (01:50):
It started off kind of shaky, not shaky, but it
just didn't have the pop that we thought it was
going to have. But they went from thirty first against
the run long one hundred and thirty eight yards per
game in twenty twenty three to sixteenth allowing one hundred
and twenty yards per game in twenty twenty four, and
once Ernest and Tyree's night took over, it just felt different.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
Man. It felt like a top ten defense. Those dudes
were on point.

Speaker 5 (02:11):
And then they went from twenty first and the pass
defense allowing two hundred twenty three yards in twenty twenty
three to eleventh allowing two hundred and eleven yards per game.
Big ups to that d line. You know it starts there.
But then the back end was good. Jay Love had
himself a good season. Witherspoon statistically isn't gonna wow you,
but you watched the games.

Speaker 4 (02:29):
He was everywhere, and then Reek had his moments as well.

Speaker 5 (02:32):
And then they went from thirtieth in total defense allowing
three hundred seventyards seventy one yards per game to fourteenth
allowing three hundred and thirty two yards per game in
twenty twenty four.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
It was improved. That's why Mike McDonald's brought here.

Speaker 5 (02:44):
Improved his defense, the team as a whole, but specifically
the defense.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Yeah, and it felt like for a while the Seahawks
were known for defense. Here the standard has been said,
and Mike McDonald's talked about the standard is the standard.
When the Seahaws are getting back to that, it'd been
a couple of years before the defense kind of looked
like it did this year, so that was great to see.
So they're on their way. But like any football season
at any level, there's going to be changes. Whether you're
in middle school, high school, D three, D two, D one, Naia,

(03:09):
the pros, there's going to be changes. That was the
same for the Seahawks. On Monday, the Seahawks has had
to part ways with offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb after one season.
Coach McDonald met with the media on Tuesday, talking about
this season in twenty twenty four, but he is optimistic
for the future.

Speaker 6 (03:24):
Yeah, we've had a great I mean, obviously what happened
yesterday with moving on from Ryan took the better part
of the morning. But you know, we've had this since
the team meeting, having a lot of opportunities to talk
to our coaches and our players, and it's been really great,
just really optimistic, fired up for what's ahead of us,
where the direction our team's going. I think, yeah, obviously

(03:45):
we want to be you know, fighting it out in
the playoffs and felt like we had a good enough
team to do some damage, but we didn't earn the
right to do that. So we're moving on. But we're
really man just excited about what's to come and working
through like what the off season is going to look like,
making some tweaks, how do we evolve all those things
that all that stuff's ahead of us, how we build

(04:06):
our roster, all those types of decisions, find a new
offsive coordinator, I mean, all those things. It's an exciting time,
excited about the foundation that we've been able to lay,
and ready to get back to.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
Work now that it's been a couple of days. As
coach said, how excited he is about where this team
can go. What stood out to team you the most
this season, Well, we touched on the defense.

Speaker 5 (04:28):
I think that was huge, And what stood out to
me is that Mike McDonald isn't afraid to make the
tough decision. You cut two linebackers, one who played every
single stat for you, the other one you brought over
from Miami thought was going to be a guy, and
you bring over Ernest Jones, and you start a rookie
that you drafted, not afraid to make the tough decision,
and then end of the season you let go Grub
just wasn't a good fit. What stood out to me

(04:49):
is that there is an energy about this team right
now that I feel like can kind.

Speaker 4 (04:54):
Of pass over roll over to next year.

Speaker 5 (04:57):
And him being a thirty seven year old head coach,
he did know what he didn't know he was in
the league. He's been a coordinator for Baltimore obviously and
then for Michigan. He's an experienced coach. But to be
in this position and to make tough decisions at thirty
seven years old your first year and get your team
to ten wins was impressive.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
So he is a head coach.

Speaker 5 (05:14):
I think that's the question when you hire young guys,
how he's going to handle the keyword in football adversity.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
And my man did a good job.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
Yeah, when you look back at his season, at no
point did you feel like the moment was too big. Ever,
when come about game management, whether it's managing the roster
or any of that stuff.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
So that was cool to see.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
I mean, there's been different coaches throughout the league, different
things that happened in Chicago, things like that, nothing ever
happened like that. In Seattle. He did a lot with
his defense, So I'm excited about that. But then I'm
also excited about bump guys like Jason. We're going to
talk about our all season long playmakers, but guys like Kim,
guys like Derek Call taking that second step. And when
you look at it, there's a lot of good players
on this offense. There's a lot of good people on

(05:53):
this team. And when you come to finding that next
person who's going to be that next offensive coordinator, here's
a coach Mike McDonald's looking for in that position.

Speaker 6 (06:02):
I think it's a heck of a job. I mean,
it starts with the organization. I mean, all the things
that all the reasons why I felt like this is
such a great place to be has been backed up,
you know, tenfold. So that starts there, and then our
players are really the next best. I mean, and shoot,
we got great players, man, I mean we've got a
great young core, and I think I mean, shoot, I

(06:24):
think it's a heck of a job.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
I think it's the best job.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
Out there now. Assuming everything is status quo. Everyone who's
under contract is still here Geno, DK Tyler. Everybody just
operate under that assumption. What makes his job so attractive.
If you were going to take, like, let's say, Michael
Bump is gonna be the next offensive quarter why would
this be so intriguing for you?

Speaker 5 (06:43):
It would be intriguing because of the personnel. One you
look at Geno Smith. Okay, I understand fifteen interceptions. I
get that, you break down the film like our colleague
b Walt did and really get specific. You realize half
of those weren't on him. But I love the leadership
of Gino and I like composure. I was watching I
forgot what game I was watching, and there was chaos

(07:04):
going on around the pocket and the quarterback has eyes
down and he's jitterering all that stuff. Gino don't do that.
He is the most composed guy I see in the pocket.
So it starts with your quarterback. I like Geno personnel.
You can have all the coaches in the world. If
you have the personnel got luck to, it ain't gonna work.
You still have DK, one of the most explosive receivers
in the game. You got Jsen who's turning into one
of the more dynamic receivers in the game. And then

(07:26):
the backfield, you got three running backs. Now you came
in this season when okay, yeah, ken Walker as the one.
We'll see what Zach and Kenney does. And now you
have three. All three have shown that they can get
it done. And then you have some bookend tackles. Of course,
you got to address some some issues on the offensive line,
but you still got young talent in the interior too.
So I think it's because of the personnel that's established
here already and then the potential of these young guys.

(07:48):
I look at this job, and you can run whatever
offense you want to run, but I have a feeling
I know what type of offense Mike McDonald wants to run.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
And the cool thing about it too is you got
to remember this staff came in late last year. Mc
donald was hired after the Ravens lost AC title game,
so it's almost February, so they got a late start
hiring the staff doing all that stuff, and he's worried
about building the staff, building culture, all that other things.
Not even you know they didn't go to the combine
things like that. So now that coaching staff, whoever is
going to be there, is going to make the combine.

(08:16):
Another year of him and Josh Schneider learned how to
work together and they you talk about the relationship, it
seems great. So I think they're miles ahead. Obviously, Yeah,
you want to be in the playoffs right now, but
they get a head start to this offseason figuring out
who they want to be here, how they're gonna get
it done, and they can really focus on the football
part of things and get things going. That being said, Bump,
what type of person do you think is going to

(08:38):
be in here when you come to the offensive coordinator
and offense? What meshes well with the personnel the Seahawks
have here in the style you think Mike McDonald wants
to play.

Speaker 4 (08:47):
You got to be a teacher.

Speaker 5 (08:48):
I met with Mike McDonald's so of you right we're
in the building, and he is big on being a teacher,
and that's what coaches are. Essentially. You're the professor. Yea,
Your students are showing up to class every single day.
Can you get the best out of them? When it
comes to the type of offense. I go back to
his roots. Where does he come from? Baltimore, Michigan. What
do they do? They pack it in tight, they run

(09:09):
the football, they still throw it. Don't get it twists,
and they will still throw the football. But it's hard
nosed type of football. It's downhill type of football. And
that's kind of what we saw with Zach Charpay and
Kenny Mackintosh towards the end of the year with Ken Walkerson.
Now as they started to get downhill, but they couldn't
really as Big Ray said, marry the pass with the run.

Speaker 4 (09:27):
When I saw them running that pen and pool, I
got excited. I couldn't wait to see how they built
off of that.

Speaker 5 (09:31):
And I think that he wants to have a concept
that is their identity, and then you build off of that,
like that's the tree trunk, and then you got all
these branches that are off this run in this style
of play. So a guy who understands that running the
football controls the game, controls the temple, and it helps
your defense out as well. So I'm not necessarily saying
run the football fifty times, but their identity has to

(09:52):
be a hard nosed, downhill type of team.

Speaker 4 (09:55):
That can still be explosive on the outside.

Speaker 5 (09:57):
Going back to Baltimore, they're downhill and my man Lamar
Jackson is still throwing for four thousand yards yeah, and
forty one touchdowns, So don't get it twisted.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
I think that's kind of what he's looking for. Yeah,
it'll be a fun watch as this off season goes on.
Hopefully they'll have someone in place here soon. But yeah,
it's gonna be fun because, like you said, the personnel's there,
we know the culture set, we kind of know what
it is. Now it's this film, that last piece and
seeing where these guys can go. But like we said,
it was a good season. A lot of good things
went on. There's a lot of people making plays all

(10:26):
season Long's talk about them, playmakers, touch up, playmakers.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
Told him what time it is?

Speaker 1 (10:37):
Ho Wait, we are broadcasting live from the Seahawks Podcast Studio,
presented by Sony, the official partner of the Seattle Seahawks Bump.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
We're gonna start with the quarterback, you know Smith, like
we normally do.

Speaker 1 (10:48):
You know, for as much of a lightning rod he
was for certain people because of the interceptions and things
like that. You know, had a really good season. He
finished it four one hundred and seven of five to
seventy eight, a seventy point four completion percentage for fourth thousand,
three hundred and twenty yards, twenty one touchdowns, fifteen interceptions.
He was also sacked fifty times. He had fifty three
carries for two hundred and seventy two yards and two touchdowns.

(11:08):
Here's where he ranked in the National Football League. He
was fourth in passing yards, fourth in attempts, second in completions,
fifth in completion percentage. He broke his own franchise records
for single season attempts, completions, yard completion percentage, tied Russell
Wilson for the most three hundred passing games. And despite
the narrative, like I said, by some he put together,
he has put together two of the best statistical seasons

(11:30):
ever by a quarterback to play for this franchise. We
know there's a lot of good ones from the zorn,
said David Craig, the Matt hasselback Russell Wilson.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
Obviously, so yeah, could he turn.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
The ball over less than the red zone, of course,
but we also know a lot of those interceptions were
on him. He still did a lot of things. He
was being asked to throw that many times and he
still had over seventy percent completion percentage. That means he's
obviously doing some good things. You watched that Rams tape. Yes,
maybe they weren't playing all their starters, but some of
those way he was moving in the pocket, the way
he spun out touchdown.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
I mean, Gino had a great year and showed in
the statue.

Speaker 5 (12:00):
What I like about his year is that he broke
all of his records in a seventeen game season. Because
you know, the haters go, oh, he broke all those
records and he had one more extra game, Like, okay,
now I'm gonna bring my own records with the same
amount of games of the season. So I like seeing
that in them. The seventy percent completion percentage is big
for me. Russell Wilson was so close to doing it
a couple of times and never got it done. And

(12:21):
it's so hard to do. There's only about a handful
of quarterbacks every year that can do it. And when
you are what fourth in completion no excuse me, attempts
in the league and you're completing seventy percent of your passes, man,
you tippy cap and you say, job well done, forty
three hundred yards. Geno was just composed. All the stuff
that was going down, all the talk outside of this building.

(12:42):
He never wavered. He was the same guy every single day.
I appreciate Geno for that.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
Yeah, No love what we saw from Geno. How about
Jason I alluded to him earlier, but he did his
thing this year too, Bump.

Speaker 5 (12:50):
Jay and sim Man. I was hoping he broke that record,
but he tied. And it's almost it's almost the perfect ending, right.
You got Tyler Lockett. We'll see what happens with him
next year. Your tighest record of one hundred receptions. He
had eleven hundred and thirty yards and six touchdowns, he said,
a single season career high in receptions, yards and touchdowns.
Like I mentioned, he tied Tyler Locke at single season
receptions record with one hundred and became the tenth player

(13:10):
in franchise history to have a thousand yards in a
single season. It's almost like this came out of nowhere.
It was a slow start for JSM and people are
questioning and.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
Was he the right pick?

Speaker 5 (13:21):
And then boom, DK goes down and he kind of
takes off it was really before DK went down against
the Rams is when he kind of showed up and
let people know I can go for a buck eighty.
I really probably should have went for like two fifty,
but I had a bunch of yards called back to
the penalties.

Speaker 4 (13:35):
But yeah, no, Jysen he is, he's here, he's emerging.

Speaker 5 (13:38):
He is a top ten receiver in this league right
now and someone that will be relied upon heavily.

Speaker 1 (13:42):
Yeah, it's just the beginning, and it's crazy they think, yeah,
six games in the season. I think he had one
hundred yard game against the Patriots, but everything else is
a lot lower than that. And the conversation they're being had, well,
I think those conversations are over. He's established who is
the National Football League. So I'd love to see what
JSN did this year. His other receiver made DK metcalf gosh,
another record that was just short eight yards sort of.
One thousand yard season, sixty six receptions, nine hundred and

(14:04):
ninety two yards, five touchdowns on the season joined Randy
Moss as the only players in NFL history to record
fifty receptions, nine hundred yards and five touchdowns in each
of his first six seasons. Anytime You're on a list
with just Randy Moss and you you're obviously doing something
well past Daryl Jackson for fourth play some seattles all
time receiving touchdown list with forty eight. He has the
most receiving yards, receptions, and touchdowns in the first six

(14:26):
seasons in franchise history. Did all that while missing two games.
DK is obviously a threat for this team and they
are better with him on it. I'm really hoping he
can build off this next year. Again, he says, healthy
the whole season, we know what he can do. Yep,
we know what he does imposing defenses. And despite missing
a couple games and having a couple of things not
go his way batting, knee injury, batting, some other stuff,
he still had a pretty good year.

Speaker 5 (14:47):
He was still that force man. He was still the
downfill threat. At one point before he got injured. I
believe he was like second in the NFL for big
plays receptions over twenty yards.

Speaker 4 (14:57):
Essentially, we know what he can do. Man.

Speaker 5 (15:00):
You don't find DK Metcalfs walking down the street. You
don't physically, you just don't find it. You might find
a JSN walking down the street, but you ain't finding
a dk metcalf walking down the street. Tyler Lockett a
down year for him, but these numbers that he put
up will allow receiver to play in the league for
seven eight years.

Speaker 4 (15:18):
Right.

Speaker 5 (15:19):
Forty nine reception, six hundred yards and two touchdowns is
a down year for my man, but he still makes
a big plays. He became the second player in franchise
history with thirteen thousand combined yards. His streak of eighty
one games with the catch came to an end earlier
this season against Arizona, which was the second longest streak
in franchise history. He ranked second in Sea Our history
and receptions yards and receiving touchdowns, only trailing the Hall

(15:41):
of Famer Steve Largin. The season that Tyler Lockett had
was what the Hawks needed from him in this situation. Right,
there were years where you needed him to be the
thousand yard guy, to have ten plus touchdowns, but you
just didn't need that ten years in the game. It's
all right, Og, you go ahead and you make your
big plays, make these first downs. Let these young bulls

(16:02):
get all these yards. He's been just a pleasure to
cover over the years. Man, I've been so grateful to
meet this dude to talk to him and interview him.

Speaker 4 (16:08):
Just a class act, one of a kind.

Speaker 5 (16:10):
You don't find Tyler Lockett in the NFL, and then
you match his personality with just a longevity that he's
had in his career.

Speaker 4 (16:17):
In his career, it's a blessing. Man. I'm happy I've
been able to cover him.

Speaker 1 (16:21):
Tyler's been the og the longest, ten yured Seahawks, never
missed a beat from twenty fifteen. He was the same
person he was when he walked in this building. He's
the same person today. So I love Tyler Lockett. Everything's
been able to do. We'd love to see him back,
but we'll kind of wait and see. But again, anytime
you're second to the goat, Steve Large, you obviously had
a great career flipping over defense. I want to touch
on Leonard Williams man big.

Speaker 4 (16:41):
Cat, come on now.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
Sixty four tackles, eleven sacks, sixteen TFLs, twenty eight QB hits,
a ninety two yard pick six, three passes defended, and
a block kick his ninety two yard pick six. As
we know, as long as a turn for an interior lineman.
Someone went over three hundred pounds in NFL history. He
also became the first player since nineteen eighty two with
multiple sacks, interception or a turn touchdown, and a block
kick in one game. He became the first Yawks player

(17:05):
with double digit sacks since Frank Clark and Jared Reid
in twenty eighteen. Unreal, obviously, how he's.

Speaker 2 (17:10):
Not a pro bowler. We talked about that, We got
that our chest. We know that was complete nonsense.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
Hopefully the writers will make it right and make him
an All Pro and big cat. I mean, you sign
him in the offseason because of that. That is the
guy you signed, and he showed up ball that one
of the MVP's on defense level.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
We saw from him all year long.

Speaker 5 (17:26):
This might be one of the best acquisitions in John
Schneider's tenure here with the Seahawks. When you get a
defensive lineman who can do the things that Leonard Williams
can do, it affects the ball game and it's almost fitting.
I was watching Get Up the other day and the
disrespect is real. They had him as like the second

(17:47):
biggest play for a big offense, our defensive lineman of
the year, and then they have the wrong pitcher up
there for him.

Speaker 4 (17:53):
They had.

Speaker 5 (17:55):
Robertson Harris. But you know what, I go, I go,
that's fitting. You know what that is fitting? Keep your
chip on your shoulder, being all pro and make these
dudes recognize how impactful you are in a game. I
was saying this earlier in the season, like he's blowing
stuff up. You might not see the sacks early got
going late, you might not see the sacks, but he

(18:16):
is blowing stuff up.

Speaker 4 (18:17):
Man.

Speaker 5 (18:18):
Just a massive human being and an athletic human being.
When I saw him take that pick ninety two yards
and saw the forum and saw the knees get up,
I go, yeah, my man played running back when he
was a kid back in the day. Just super athletic,
good dude. And I don't know if he is a captain.
I know they rotated captains this year, but if they
had a captain on defense, he would be one of
them for sure.

Speaker 1 (18:37):
Yeah, no question about it. And also disrespect Espniard kidding me.
He played for both New York teams. Crazy, he's done it.

Speaker 4 (18:42):
Crazy.

Speaker 5 (18:42):
Come on, that's bad. I'm yelling at the TV byself.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
Come on, man, anyway, Leo, absolute style level we saw
from this year.

Speaker 4 (18:50):
Julian Love consistent.

Speaker 5 (18:52):
He got paid the soft season and he like the
performed like he got paid this AFT season. One hundred
and nine tackles, three TFLs, twelve passes the A, three intercessions,
two forced fumbles, one funnel recovery, and one block kick.
He tied for the team lead and interceptions. Posted a
third consecutive one hundred tackles season. Julian Love one is
a professional. It's hard time to get up on the

(19:16):
podium after loss and answer these questions and then do
it after a win and give love to everybody else.
Met the man before, and he's just he shows up
to work. He is a true professional man. When you
think of a safety who can be relied upon and
can be a leader, it's Julian Love. And he didn't
miss many tackles. Of course, guys missed tackles. This the
NFL is going to happen, but he did not miss

(19:38):
many tackles. Super reliable on the back end.

Speaker 1 (19:41):
Yeah, I loved you and love He does everything the
team asks for him from a media standpoint, talking to
the media, doing all the interviews, and then on the field,
he was a difference maker. He was making splash plays
TFLs keeping guys in front of doing all that thing.
So Julian love big ups number twenty for a huge year.
Shout out to him and his family. I know he's
got a young one at home, so doing his thing there.
Then Ernest Joe another you're talking about acquisitions, another guy

(20:03):
that was complete game changer. The Seahawks are nowhere near
ten wins if Ernest Jones is not on this football team.
He comes to Seahawks in week eight and then since
week eight he had ninety four tackles, half a SAG,
one TfL, two passes have been into one ie one
force fumble.

Speaker 2 (20:17):
Are you kidding me?

Speaker 5 (20:18):
Ernest Jones brought this light, this toughness to a defense.
You had it on the D line with Leo, but
you needed it on that second level and Ernest brought him.
And I like how he's affecting the young man next
to him too, Tyres nine. I mean, it's such a
blessing to have Ernest Jones leath away who's still young,
what is like twenty four to twenty five years old,

(20:40):
young dude. Yeah, and then you got Tyre s Nyde
to the right of them.

Speaker 4 (20:43):
To the left. However, they line up. But it's bigger
than just Ernest.

Speaker 5 (20:47):
It's the effect he had on the defense of the
mentorship that he has with Tyres Knight.

Speaker 1 (20:51):
Yeah, I mean, goodness, gracious, he was just that stabling force.
The Seahawks were giving up one hundred and fifty yards
a game. It was like back to back to back
to back weeks. He comes in there, resets it. The
first time he actually has a full week of practice
was that first Rams game. Now is the first time
the defense started playing well big you know, obviously got
attribute a lot of that to Ernest Jones, So love
what he did there. And then another one bump. I'll
go with Devin Witherspoon. You talked about it earlier. If

(21:14):
this isn't a great statistical season, I would sign up
for this every single year. Ninety eight tackles, one sacks,
six TFLs, nine passes, defend in one force fumble. Yes,
he didn't have the big splash interception or anything like that,
but he was voted to the Pro Bowl for the
second consecutive year.

Speaker 2 (21:28):
And his energy and motor is just unmatched.

Speaker 1 (21:30):
I mean, the way this guy plays, he's NonStop bump
Like you can't teach what he does on a football field.
You talk about I think, case in point, the interception
Kobe's interception, what he was able to do. Think it's
a run, spin out, pressure, Kyler Williams or Kyler murrayscuse me,
the fastest dude at quarterback in this league, and then run.
I mean everything that he was able to do this year.

(21:51):
Devin Witherspoon is a cornerstone for this defense. At his stature,
was still able to play in every single game this year.
He's a difference maker. I love to see what we're
seeing from him.

Speaker 5 (22:00):
Play him at corner, get him at nickel, he'd be
in the box trying to mix it up as well.
He he's probably listed at a buck eighty five. He's
probably a buck seventy five. Yeah, but he plays like
he's two h five out there. The energy, the passion,
the talk. You need guys like him out there, and
it's he's slowly becoming the leader already and it's only

(22:20):
a second year in the NFL.

Speaker 4 (22:22):
That's fine.

Speaker 5 (22:23):
Derek Hall loves seeing the growth of this dude. He
used to be a one trick pony. Now he got
like three Foux tricks down. He's doing his thing, thirty
seven tackles, eight sacks, six TfL's, two force fumbles, one
fumble return for a touchdown, and took a second year jump.
Very similar to our guy boy Mafe. Derek Hall is

(22:43):
a guy who plays with like force.

Speaker 4 (22:46):
You know.

Speaker 5 (22:46):
I think of like just the most powerful thing in
this world to me, and the scarce thing is the ocean,
right the waves, the force that it plays with. That's
what I see when I see Derek Hall. He plays
with just the force of waves, man, and he's getting confident.
Like I said, he used to a bullrush. Now he's
got some hand movement. He took a huge jump this year.

Speaker 1 (23:03):
Yeah, I love it. He's strong, He's a physical dude.
That's the dude that we thought were getting from Auburn. Yeah,
and it takes a while you come to the league.
You're kind of figuring things out. He took that step
and just kind of played a role between him and
Jay Reid and Leo what that defense can do. So
I love what we saw from him. And then Kobe
Bryant loved the story from Kobe comes in as a corner,
moves inside to the slot, has a great year, forces

(23:25):
four fumbles, doing his thing there. And then second year
they draft Evan Witherspoon, he kind of loses the spot,
doesn't pout, doesn't do anything they asked him to change
his safety another position, twitches he do because everything he's
asked to him comes in this year, took his opportunity,
was kind of in some nickel packages and personnel early on.
Then Rashawn Jenkins went down and he took that job
and did not give it back. Seventy three tackles, three interceptions,

(23:47):
six passes defended, one force fumble, one sixty nine yard
pick six did that well starting just eleven games. Like
I said, took over for Jenkin's spot, and I just
love his journey and what he was able to do.

Speaker 2 (23:59):
And Kobe's dog.

Speaker 1 (24:00):
He's one of the one of the really good dudes
in the locker room again, another guy that will always
speak to the media, win, lose, draw. Kobe's that dude.
We could spend time talking about so many guys in
our locker room. Those are who we spot shot out tonight.
So a lot of cool players, a lot of good
guys that can figure ways out next year to really
cont contribute help this football team. So I'm excited about
that we're broadcasting live from the Seahawks Podcast Studio presented

(24:23):
by Sony, the official partner of the Seattle Seahawks. In
this NFL season, feel every play, every hit, every moment
with the Sony one thousand XM five noise canceling headphones,
the official headphones of the Seattle Seahawks. With premium noise cancelation,
You're in the zone, no distractions, just pure football. Whether
you're in your living room or on the go, You'll
never miss a beat with Sony Headphones.

Speaker 4 (24:43):
Bump.

Speaker 2 (24:43):
We gotta look at the rest of the offseason, what
it's going to look like. What's on tap? What's on tap?

Speaker 1 (24:52):
So coming up, we got the NFL Combine that's February
twenty fourth to March third. Free agency gets going on
March twelfth. Everything kind of it gets while there offseason
program with teams that have returning head coaches. So the
Seahawks here in Seattle April twenty first, that's when the
players have kind of come back and they can start
doing activities. Then you have the NFL Draft April twenty
fourth to the twenty six, and then rookie Minicamp is

(25:14):
typically you know, either the first or second week of May.
Then you got the schedule release OTA's mandatory mini camp,
and then we're back here at training camp. It feels
like a lot bump, but we'll be back here very shortly.

Speaker 5 (25:25):
Right now, it's gonna crawl because we gotta watch other
teams play football, but as soon as it's over, it's
gonna happen fairly quickly. And I'm so excited to see
just how this organization progresses off of this ten and
seven season, when you were so close to making the playoffs.
You go back and you reflect on the season. There
are things that you wish they could have gotten done.
But this is what I expected, and I'm happy that

(25:48):
Mike MacDonald got off to the start that he did,
and now he has.

Speaker 4 (25:51):
A full off season to really both this thing to
what he wants.

Speaker 1 (25:54):
Yeah, between him and John SCHNI have been doing a
lot a long time. Obviously, that pairing's gonna be great,
just like it was Carol. So I'm excited what this
team can do. Unfortunately, this season, though the clock did
run out.

Speaker 3 (26:07):
Knee taken by Uny, They're just gonna let the clock
wind down. I'm not even gonna bother taking that last
time out.

Speaker 1 (26:13):
You talked about a bump. How this season off scene
is gonna be fine. We get to see what Mike
McDonald John Snyder can build. The biggest thing is gonna
be finding the offensive coordinator that's kind of set this
thing off and see how the rest of the offense
shakes out.

Speaker 2 (26:24):
Lots of build on, lots look forward to.

Speaker 5 (26:27):
Yeah, I gotta find out OLC. Well, step number one,
fine the OLC and just keep building. Man, you're stacking days,
you're stacking weeks, and you're creating something special here. And
it gets me excited about next season because of just
the steps that we're taking defensively. Offensively, they still did
some great things. At one point they were a top

(26:47):
five passing team in the game. Gino hit some numbers,
he got paid big us to getting his incentives extra
six million. Good for you, Gino. But but yeah, it's
all about just stacking. My son, I tell him every
day second days. So so there they're gonna be second
days over here.

Speaker 1 (27:02):
That's what coach McDonald preaches, that there stacking wins and
it's one performance after another. So it's exciting, you know,
and in terms of me and you, we'll be back
periodically through off season. Obviously, were gonna take a little
bit of break here, but when news breaks, we'll probably
jump back on and me. And you've been doing this
for a little while now, bump this is six you're
doing this first season on YouTube. So we appreciate all
of you guys for listening. We're not gonna be gone

(27:22):
for too long. We will be back. And uh, I
just want to clarify one click thing bumps about our name.
I've seen people like hawk Talk like someone else has
that name. I just wanted to be clear. Hawk Talk
is an extension of the Seahawks Postgame Show, which is
the last hour of the postgame show.

Speaker 2 (27:36):
Yep, that has been going on for decades, decades, So
we copyed no one there now. I just want to
put that out there.

Speaker 4 (27:42):
You guys can make assumptions off of what he just said.

Speaker 2 (27:45):
Yeah, No, we're good. We're good.

Speaker 1 (27:46):
There's no copying. And I'm gonna throw shade anyone else. Brian,
if you're out there, hawk logger, he's doing his thing.
All good, All good. I just want to clear that up.
Want to clear that up. Yeah, anyway, he's Michael Bumpus,
some NaSTA show. We thank you for listening all season long.
Hopefully we'll be back next time with some good news.
Getting ready for that twenty twenty five season, it's gonna
be a fun ride again. Thanks for listening until next time.
