Speaker 1 (00:03):
Now to chim Soaki with the Panthers postgame show exclusively
on the Carolina Panthers Radio Network.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
What did we just witness?

Speaker 3 (00:15):
Wow?

Speaker 4 (00:15):
That was a glass case of emotion on a roller coaster.
Thirty to twenty seven in overtime. That game was won
and lost so many different times along the way, and
the Panthers all week long, we're talking about Bryce Young.
Can we throw four hundred and forty eight yards, three touchdowns,
no interceptions, left the game with an ankle injury, came

(00:36):
back out. It's like Michael Jordan's flu gamer out there
before you go.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
It was crazy.

Speaker 4 (00:40):
And the Panthers only run for sixty seven yards, which
he thought they'd have a better day.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
Running the game, running the ball throughout the game. And
then you look at the Atlanta numbers.

Speaker 4 (00:48):
Be John Robinson runs over one hundred yards, Breake London
over one hundred yards receiving, and still the Panthers able
to survive in advance Eugene six and five and beat
the Falcons for the second time this year.

Speaker 5 (00:58):
This was going to be a riffer them on Coach
Canais and Bryce Young. You know last week they were
able to stop the run and say they dared. The
Saints dared Bryce Young. Coach I beat the throwing the ball.
This week, coach talked about being balanced, being balanced, Well,
he was extremely balanced. He got the ball distributed all
across the field with lots of explosive plays. And Bryce Young,

(01:23):
I tell you what I thought, he played sensational football.
There was like a tale of two Black Bryces this.
Bryce Young was magnificent. There was no doubt about that.
And you saw his resilience. He stayed in the game
when he was getting knocked around. He stayed in the game.
And I know that we're gonna get to it kind
of much a little bit later. But I also thought
this was about fourth down. This was about the fourth

(01:45):
down and what coach was gonna do on fourth down.
And we saw coach Canalis be extremely aggressive on fourth down,
and even when he had plays that did not work
towards his advantage, he did not give up on his
fourth down. So I tell you what I thought, this
was a heck of a game to go into overtime
and didn't win it like that, big us, Bryce Young,

(02:06):
that you that was a big, a nice display of
your talent.

Speaker 6 (02:11):
I don't know if we have the cliche bellready Wendel,
but it really was a tale of two halves.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
I mean, oh yeah, that's a great way of putting it, Mike.

Speaker 7 (02:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (02:18):
In the first uh, the first half they were gonna
get I mean it was looking a little dier there. Yes,
it was the first half. But then the second half, obviously,
you know, Brice makes some big plays and they did
a better job.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
I thought.

Speaker 6 (02:30):
On the Jon Robinson, he didn't have as many explosive
runs as as he had in the first half.

Speaker 7 (02:35):
But that was what coming out of the out.

Speaker 5 (02:38):
A halftime coach was interviewed on the field and he
was saying that we got to do better at tackling
Bjon Robinson. We got to make sure that we're able
to limit what he does because if we don't. You
saw what he was able to do one hundred and
thirteen yards in the first half, roughly two testdowns. He's
just that guy who can make you miss. But I
thought we did a much better a much better job

(03:01):
of carilling him and keeping him pinned in and where
he could not use that shiftiness and quickness or even
that power. I thought we did a much better job
of tackling and so this. I mean this was really
one on an off, you know, a defensive effort as well,
doing their job to keep the game close, close, close,

(03:21):
and not let this game get out of hand, so
as it looked like it might have gotten out of
hand in that first.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
Half twenty one to seven at that point, h protecting
the football.

Speaker 6 (03:29):
I mean, just the fact that you know, no no
interceptions and you know they didn't turn the ball over.

Speaker 4 (03:35):
Game like this, it's critical now, it was every possession mattered.
As you said, when it was twenty one to seven
in the second quarter, you're like, on, this is getting
on the brink of getting out of hand. And then
the Panthers, you know, get that field goal before the half,
make it closer, and then just kind of chipped away,
chipped away at it, and it was it was not
the way that you would thought nobody could have drawn
up that you would think Brice would throw for four
hundred and oh and I'm careper is run after catch

(03:58):
all all the stuff that happened, like Tommy trembled the hero,
We didn't know that we need caught one ball fifty
four yards in overtime to set up the winning field
tackles there, Oh, yeah.

Speaker 5 (04:06):
You know, And that's another thing we didn't talk about
Atlanta with the penalties that they get, what they allowed
for the Panthers to get back in it or to
keep a drive alive. And the mistackles on a Tommy Trimble.
You don't want that to happen to a ric O'Donnell
because you know Rick was going to beat you. But
Tommy Tremble, he stiff Farm's guys on his way down
the field for a fifty four y catcher runs.

Speaker 7 (04:26):
So that was out outstanding.

Speaker 5 (04:30):
I like the way that we played because it was
a tough, gritty game and I was sitting there saying,
if we were to lose this game, how would I feel.
I'm like, I feel like a valiant effort was in
the second half, was was on display, and so I
would not have been, you know, as critical. And let

(04:51):
me be let me say this about xavierler Get because
I've been a little bit critical examerer Get. This was
one of the first times I thought that he played big.
I thought that, you know, not only the big explosive play,
but he caught the ball.

Speaker 7 (05:04):
And he ran with like some Simmahammad and him.

Speaker 5 (05:08):
Like like he got ranry Yeah, he ran angry, and
I thought that he played much bigger this game, and
I think moving forward, yes, that needs to happen.

Speaker 7 (05:19):
And I love to see what I saw Addam.

Speaker 5 (05:22):
Jalen Kocher in the mix because he had maybe four
or five catches, but I noticed him on the field
and he's a guy that you gotta account for. So
this is a really good collection of receivers. Sure if
you still kind of move forward and Bryce way to
distribute the ball across the field and Coach Canalis, I
gotta give you major props.

Speaker 7 (05:42):
Way to call a game.

Speaker 5 (05:43):
And let me just say this too, I wanted to
get this out that screen they did the Ricodoondo when
he scored that test out.

Speaker 7 (05:49):
I was sitting there watching the TV going on.

Speaker 5 (05:51):
Just screen him. Screen this, dude, would you screen them?
They keep coming at you. I'm screening.

Speaker 4 (05:57):
You.

Speaker 5 (05:57):
Gonna take ric o'dondo who was blocking blocking block, Let
him slip out and ain't nobody's gonna be there. No
one's gonna be there because they're bent on getting Bryce
Young on the ground because they've already heard him. So
the last screen, when we hit the screen, I was
the happiest person watching that screen. And I thought it
was gonna be a testoun, but I'm glad it didn't

(06:18):
turn out to be a testdoun where you can waste
more time on the clock.

Speaker 7 (06:21):
I know you don't want to, but you can do it.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Mike was saying that as soon as it happened, he said,
we score too fast.

Speaker 6 (06:25):
Yeah, And how about tam mac on that triple move on?
I mean faked the line and first of all, was
a linebacker.

Speaker 7 (06:30):
Why would you put a linebacker?

Speaker 4 (06:31):
One couldn't figure o how that matchup happens in the red.

Speaker 7 (06:36):
Exactly?

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Should you know?

Speaker 5 (06:38):
You got a whip snag? You got You've got three
different options on the row, And I'm like, where is
the safety, where's the corner? A linebacker? Are you serious?
A linebacker? So now you got you know who I
think that was Ellis. You got one of their best
linebackers trying to cover one of the best receivers.

Speaker 7 (06:55):
Who's that guy?

Speaker 5 (06:56):
And you don't put a books on him, You don't
put somebody else who can run with them, who can
stay with that type of moves. Tactical era by the
Atlanta Falcus, And it looks like that seems to be
seems to be the boat of operator operation because uh,
last last week in Germany, tactical eras tactical eras well.

(07:17):
I thought they beat themselves a little bit. But Bryce Young,
my goodness, you were spectaclar and you took advantage of
a team that has tactical.

Speaker 4 (07:27):
Errors and by the way, number one ranked defense as
far as pass yards.

Speaker 7 (07:31):
Wild Vin didn't even didn't even and.

Speaker 4 (07:33):
Didn't even though that he carved him up with that.
Atlanta's lost five in a row. They're three and seven
now with that lost Panthers at six and five, Tampa
Bay lost right, So the Panthers are tied as far
as the wind column, half a game behind the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers in the NFC South.

Speaker 5 (07:48):
So and so we didn't even talk about that night
eighty five rivalry going down to Atlanto coming up here
to the Carolinas.

Speaker 7 (07:55):
That's a real real deal.

Speaker 5 (07:56):
And there was a scene that they showed in the
State Him when they were waving all the flags and
this and that, it was like sounds like it was
deafening in there. That was big was gonna happen. And
our guys rolls up to the challenge, met the challenge,
took on the challenge and bring home the victory.

Speaker 7 (08:14):
Outstanding win. Outstanding, outstanding win.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
Yeah, and that's a win that I think that kind
of can propel you to.

Speaker 6 (08:20):
I mean a gutsy win, gritty win, fought back, you know,
and we've seen this team do.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
This is the fourth time now've won by a field.

Speaker 5 (08:26):
Goal exactly because don't forget last week we were we
were critical on what the Saints cause We're like, there's
been did the Panthers show up? I mean, what's the dillio?
What's what's going on?

Speaker 8 (08:36):
Man?

Speaker 5 (08:37):
Uh, this is not like you. This is this is
not like how you operate and how you play. Uh offensively,
we couldn't do a thing. This was a makeup game,
uh if you will by Bryce because I was like Bryce, dude,
you gotta be special. Now do you think Zoe if

(08:57):
he didn't have Bryce in there, would it still would
have been the same with Andy Dilton?

Speaker 7 (09:01):
I don't think so. Now, I just so, I don't.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
I don't think it would have been I.

Speaker 7 (09:05):
Don't think of I don't think would have been the
same with Andy does.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
Way of knowing it.

Speaker 4 (09:08):
But Kirk Cousins comes in, I thought, like the Atlanta
offense kind of shut down.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
It was a too different different.

Speaker 4 (09:14):
Pennis was having a pretty good game. He was thirteen
out of sixteen. I mean, so I thought that hurt
them as well. So a lot of factors in and
out of the game. But Bryce, Yeah, when he went
out early, He's like, who would have known he was
gonna come back and finish with the yarders that he
had in that game. So lots to get you here.
In the post game show, we'll get to highlights. We'll
hear from Coach Kanalos, some of the Panther players. Mike's
got a scoreboard update coming up. We'll hear from Luke

(09:35):
and Jake and the guys to get their final thoughts
as we wind through the post game show. Panthers big
win in Atlanta sweep the season series thirty to twenty
seven in overtime. Today on the Carolina Panthers Radio Network.

Speaker 6 (09:52):
And back at Bank of America Stadium with Jim Zok
Eugene Robinson. I am Mike Pachico's Drive Around League, brought
to you by the Honda Dealers of the Carolinas. Of course,
in this game, a thrilling finish for the Panthers, say
get the overtime field goal to win at thirty twenty seven.
So Panthers now six and five, two and one in
the division. Earlier today, first time in Spain, Miami beats

(10:15):
Washington sixteen thirteen. Roy eh Chan had one hundred twenty
yards on the ground, five point seven yards per carry
at two a tongue of I looa one hundred and
seventy one yards in the air, no touchdowns and no interceptions.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
Kind of a track meet.

Speaker 6 (10:28):
In Buffalo is Josh Allen kind of an uncharacteristic nineteen
of thirty, but he did throw for three hundred and
seventeen yards two picks in that game, but he also
had three touchdowns. Baker Mayfield one hundred and seventy three
yards with a touchdown and an interception. Bill's win forty
four to thirty two at home. Didn't see this one coming.
Jim Jacksonville over the LA Chargers thirty five to six.

Speaker 3 (10:47):
That was in Jacksonville.

Speaker 6 (10:48):
Trevor Larvitz one hundred and fifty three, one hundred and
fifty three yards in the air with a touchdown and
an interception. Bears over Minnesota nineteen seventeen. Caleb Williams sixteen
of thirty two, hundred ninety three yards in the air.
Jamis Winston couldn't pull off the victory at home against
Green Bay. The Packers went twenty seven to twenty. Jordan

(11:09):
Love thirteen of twenty four hundred and seventy four yards
and they are two touchdowns, no interceptions. Mason Rudolph in
relief of Aaron Rodgers, he had to leave with a
hand injury. Pittsburgh easily takes care of rock Keelty thirty
four to twelve.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
US Falls City USA.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Winter Basketball USA.

Speaker 3 (11:26):
That's right, that's right.

Speaker 6 (11:28):
And Houston knocks off Tennessee sixteen to thirteen. Games going
on right now, and Christian McCaffrey a touchdown on the
ground and one in the air. Nineteen seven Niners over
the Cardinals. Brock Purty seven of eight ninety eight yards
with two touchdowns.

Speaker 3 (11:44):
In the air.

Speaker 7 (11:45):
Why did miss a beat?

Speaker 6 (11:46):
They had miss a beat back in there for brock Purty.
The rams of the Seahawks right now, fourteen to three,
that game just underway, second quarter. And Cleveland and Baltimore
that's all even at three. That's also just entering the
second quarter and end of the first Denver a six
nothing lead over Kansas City six, nothing so Detroit said Philadelphia.

(12:06):
Tonight the Monday night game is Dallas at Las Vegas.

Speaker 5 (12:10):
And don't forget those Bears. Bears are now seven and
three seven, yeah, like slowly, just you know, like the Patriots.
The Patriots have been winning, the Bears have been winning
in sneaky.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
And this put the right coach with the right quarterback right.

Speaker 5 (12:23):
You know here it is this year there are no
like major favorites any team. There's too much parody in
this league right now, too much parody. And so as
as you're moving forward, any team could beat any other
team as we can see. And so I'm putting my
I'm rolling with the Carolina Panthers and looking to go

(12:44):
to the playoffs.

Speaker 4 (12:44):
So I had to be doing Falcon talk right now
in Atlanta. Oh my god, oh my goodness. I mean,
they've got too much talent. I mean really, it's just
like I wouldn't want to be doing for the last decade.

Speaker 6 (12:54):
I mean you still, I mean people still bring up
the Super Bowl and the Patriots right twenty eight three
and no, and then the the trials and tribulations have
had this year.

Speaker 5 (13:02):
They've been under the gun, and you would think with
you know, just with the offense. Like I think the
offense is very very good. I think they could put
points on anybody. Problem is their defense can give up points.
I mean they like feast of family. They blitzen and
you know and getting all out getting the sack. But
then they blitzen let something go behind them.

Speaker 4 (13:23):
But what's ironica is they've been really good in pass yards.
I mentioned they've been getting after the quarterback. They're fifth
in the league at that. They had thirteen over the
past two weeks. They've been really good. It's you know,
it really struggled, I should say at stopping the run. Yes,
they did a really good job in stopping the run
today against Carolina. And it's all about adjustments, right, It's
all about you know, kind of like you got to
pick your poinis.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
If they go take away the run, you gotta pass.

Speaker 4 (13:46):
Is what New Orleans tried to do last week, and
this time the Panthers were able to respond. And even
though it looks like there are a lot of like
long explosive plays, many of those were catching run. So
it's just kind of getting guys in the right spot exactly.

Speaker 5 (13:55):
And that's why I'm in It was referendum on coach
Canal is if we're voting like this, will he be
able to come up with some plays that passing plays
that can go ahead and put us in a really
good position or the answer is absolutely yes, because he did.
And some of them were that little catch ball here
and get up the field. Some of them were those

(14:17):
like intermediate things and a couple of explosives down the field.
But I thought it was a mixture of plays. And
he said it last week. He said that the Carolina
Panthers had to be balanced. If you're going to take
away to run, you got to be able to do
something else, and that was you got to be able
to pass the ball. And Bryce man, he just looked sharp.

(14:38):
Bryce was very very sharp. And no interceptions. No, nobody's
batting the ball up in the air where you get
an interceptions and stuff like that.

Speaker 7 (14:46):
I mean, they were really careful with the ball too.

Speaker 5 (14:48):
So this was really a complete win in a hostile
environment and where you need to win a game like
this that counts as almost two wins in your division.

Speaker 6 (14:58):
Yeah, and you have to fourth game winning drive, now,
bright show, I mean, that's not that's that's one of
the things you're you know, your your market gain. You know,
that's one of the things you grated on, and it's
able to do that. And now was team this lead
technically had two game winning drives in this game. Yeah, exactly,
because they had the lead in in regulation. At kickoff
was returned to the forty five yard line, they were

(15:19):
almost in field goal range after the.

Speaker 7 (15:20):
First you know, and here it is.

Speaker 5 (15:23):
I thought the defense did a great job of you know,
the secondary. You have some really close calls where you
can go and there could be a penalty, and they
still didn't give up. They still were aggressive. Jack You know,
we gotta give Jackson some credit. Jackson played some really
good smart football because they took a shot down the
field and hoping to get a pass in the ference

(15:43):
and he covered him. He covered London extremely well. Lennon
gets a hand on the ball, but jack was in
position to look like I can get off the tip.

Speaker 7 (15:52):
And interceptions got it exactly. So it was really really good.

Speaker 5 (15:55):
I thought that I thought that the secondary did not
give up playing aggressive even though they have some penalties
on them. I like to call and I'm glad Coach
call Gerald said keep being aggressive because you needed to be.

Speaker 7 (16:08):
That way, all right.

Speaker 4 (16:10):
So it all adds up to an overtime victory for
the Carolina Panthers thirty to twenty seven in Atlanta, six
and five and now at this point tied in the
wind column and half a game back in the standings
at NFC South with Tampa Bay. As Mike was giving
the scores earlier, they had a tough one today with Buffalo.
Much more to get to as we can continue through
the postgame show Jim, Mike and Eugene with you more

(16:30):
to come as the Panthers get the win today in Atlanta.

Speaker 1 (16:34):
He's called Panthers postgame show line from Bank of America Citio.

Speaker 8 (16:39):
So read give straight up the Middle, Touchdown, Touchdown, Carolina.

Speaker 1 (16:44):
Reaction and analysis to today's game with special guests, highlights
and updates from around the league.

Speaker 9 (16:50):
Complete touchdown right side next the Cats touchdown Father.

Speaker 1 (16:56):
Now to Jim Ziki with the Panthers postgame show exclusively
on the Carolina Panthers Radio Network.

Speaker 4 (17:06):
Exciting overtime win in Atlanta for the Panthers thirty to
twenty seven the final score and improved their record a
six and five. Next up primetime Monday against the San
Francisco forty nine is before we get back at it.
Let's go ahead and pause ten seconds for Station ID.
This is the Carolina Panthers radio network. All right, we're
listening back to some of the highlights. We're going to
skip ahead to the end of the game because that's

(17:27):
when the best stuff happened.

Speaker 2 (17:28):
As the Panthers would.

Speaker 4 (17:29):
Fall behind twenty four nineteens A Gonzalez had a fifty
two yard field goal to make it twenty four to nineteen.
Panthers nearly get in on a touchdown with Rico Dawdle,
but they say he stepped out of bounds at the
ten yard line. That just set up even more of
the drama though, as it would be the Panthers. Hetero
McMillan had a big game today, catching this a twelve

(17:51):
yard touchdown pass and this would give Carolina the lead.

Speaker 8 (17:56):
Chuba Hubbard wide to the left, mcmillet slot left, trip's right.
It's an empty set one fifteen on the clock. Got
third of goal from the twelve young looking around, look
it you'll take off and the run now crows two
of the end zone.

Speaker 9 (18:10):
McMillan left corner makes the catch touch down Carolina.

Speaker 4 (18:15):
That was big in hindsight, which was even just as
big really was. The Jalen Cocher two point conversion makes
it twenty seven to twenty four, twenty five to twenty
four because Atlanta would come down and tie the game
on another's in Gonzales field goal with sixteen seconds to go,
so the Panthers go to overtime tied at twenty seven
to twenty seven. This would be the play that sets
up the winning score, and it's a throw from Bryce

(18:36):
Young to Tommy Trumple, the only pass he would catch today,
but he would do a lot with a ticket fifty
four yards to put the Panthers in range.

Speaker 8 (18:45):
Young the snap as time throws to Tremble, makes the
catch of the thirty five stiff our forty has room.

Speaker 9 (18:51):
There goes Tommy down the right side on across midfield.
He's got the thirty the twenty Tommy Tremble. Tommy Tremble
with the thunder all the way to the sixteen yard line.

Speaker 2 (19:05):
The Treble takes it down there. That would set up
a short field goal.

Speaker 4 (19:08):
After a few handoffs up the middle, here's the game
winner as Ryan Fitzgerald the twenty eight yard field goal
sneaks it inside the right, upright, It's.

Speaker 8 (19:18):
A twenty eight yarder for the win. Jansen to snap
JJ the snap, Martin puts it down, Fitzgerald swings the leg,
the kick is good, and the Panthers walk it off
in over time again in Atlanta.

Speaker 4 (19:35):
Thirty twenty seven this time last time in Atlanta. Of course,
that was forty four to thirty eight last year. And
Gene say they got the two point conversion there. Mike
and I were watching the game down the hall, and
when we were early third.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
Quarter, we go for two. I am not a fan,
right exactly.

Speaker 8 (19:49):
Never.

Speaker 2 (19:50):
I get the analytics.

Speaker 4 (19:51):
I know they tell you to go for it, but
you have to think about, you know, what the rest
of the game might look like. I just think it's
too soon again, make it or not make it. I
just don't think the risk is.

Speaker 5 (20:00):
I thought too so the same thing. I was like, man,
this is too early. Mitsus kicked the extra point, you know,
and and and and and and and.

Speaker 7 (20:07):
Do your thing.

Speaker 5 (20:07):
But when it came down towards the end of the
game where you got to go ahead and go up
by three points, then it's warranted. And that that that
play who talked to Cocher on that little corner rout
in the back of the end zone right there.

Speaker 7 (20:20):
A beautiful play.

Speaker 5 (20:21):
Because you had a lot of light uh like uh
sweet stuff down underneath them where you want people to
be in the flat and you want to seek somebody behind.
And that was just a great play by Bryce lofting
it over everybody's head where Jaylen Coca could go ahead
and and crawl that ball. So here it is. And
we said this last week, man, some this white receiving

(20:43):
room needs to step up. They got to step up, man.
We we said that they stepped up, checked a lot
of boxes, they stepped up.

Speaker 7 (20:53):
They did a great job.

Speaker 5 (20:54):
And I think you're absolutely right that that play by
by Coker, that's one of the best plays. Because if
you don't have that play they kicked that field go
and they win, you lose.

Speaker 7 (21:05):
You lose a game.

Speaker 3 (21:05):
Well, and think about I mean, how many guys can
we say that about too?

Speaker 6 (21:08):
I mean t mac uh two touchdowns, David Lagatt, you know,
play big. You know, Coker catches the two point conversion
and then Tommy Trumpbill breaks what five.

Speaker 3 (21:19):
On him.

Speaker 2 (21:19):
You can't stop Tommy Trump.

Speaker 3 (21:21):
You can only help get.

Speaker 5 (21:25):
Yeah, absolutely, Tommy Tremble played well. But no, this was
just some really good play and and I got to
go back to coach Canalis.

Speaker 7 (21:34):
There was some great play calls.

Speaker 5 (21:35):
Because the one play where they're getting everybody in your
face and they sneak out Rico Dado on that little
screen to the left hand side, I said, brilliant. I've
been dying for a screen, you know. I've been dying
for the for the Bryce to get underneath the center
and drop back, so as he's dropping back, you can
hit him.

Speaker 7 (21:55):
With the draw, you know.

Speaker 5 (21:57):
And you know, but then I think of savalas he
stepped on his foot, you know, yeah, you know, he
stepped on his foot. So we got to kind of
clean things up a little bit. But when you think
about overall, wow, just some really good football. And man,
to get to six and five and to be tied
in your division with Tampa and knowing that you have

(22:17):
a stake in it. Last last year, there was there
was no excitement for us right here. This year, this
excitement because you know, the fans going, hey, can we
actually get in the playoffs?

Speaker 7 (22:29):
Yeah, we can.

Speaker 4 (22:30):
Already with won more games than all of last season,
winning in Atlanta at the end of last year, just
to get the five, just.

Speaker 7 (22:34):
To get the five, just to get the five.

Speaker 6 (22:36):
And that's the shame of last week, right because now
you'd be in the first place.

Speaker 3 (22:39):
Now you've done it well, you have to being the
good with the bed.

Speaker 6 (22:44):
Now you're right, No, but but you still have you
still have a winning record in division. And now you're
only half game behind Tampa Bays and you play them
twice coming up.

Speaker 5 (22:51):
And that was the frustration that I think a lot
of the fans felt last week is because there's some
margin for even though we played poorly against the Saints,
it's felt like, man, we should be beating these guys.
Everybody felt that. You know that there is some margin, like, hey,
we should we should be doing this, We should be
doing that. You know we can win this game, this

(23:12):
game right here.

Speaker 7 (23:13):
That was much more definitive. That told you the story.

Speaker 5 (23:16):
It is some margin there, and yes, we can't go
on somebody's backyard and win a game. Don't forget we
beat them thirty to nothing. This game was thirty to
twenty seven. I knew it wasn't gonna be no thirty
to nothing game, not at all.

Speaker 4 (23:27):
The key used to keep this team on the road
exactly mom, Buffalo, New Orleans, go on the road, Green Bay, Atlanta.
So thank god, Monday night football is on at San
Francisco coming.

Speaker 7 (23:38):
Is that sa frae?

Speaker 1 (23:39):
Right?

Speaker 7 (23:39):
Yeah, okay, there we go.

Speaker 4 (23:40):
So that that bodes well. Ply, it gives us three points.
I always do three points for home field advantage. We
get three points for road advantage in this one. This season,
in this Panther season, stay ice Cold was Zippy ice
based right here in Charlotte, the ice provider at Bank
of America Stadium, keeping your drinks and the Panthers cool
all game long. Zippy ice keeping Carolina cool, one game
at a time. And while I'm thinking about it, we

(24:01):
did the highlights there that last because let's give it
to Tommy Tremble. Tommy Trumble the what a burger? What
a moment of the game, ye grilling delicious food for
seventy five years. What a burger, just the way you
like it? Much more to get to here on the
post game show, we'll hear from coach Dave Canalis, some
of the Panther players. We're here from Luke and Jake
and Aniche all coming up. Panthers a winner in Atlanta

(24:22):
in overtime thirty to twenty seven on the Carolina Panthers
Radio Network.

Speaker 2 (24:29):
Overtime.

Speaker 4 (24:30):
Panthers win get their sixth victory of the season, one
more than all of last year, now six and five
with a thirty twenty seven victory in Atlanta.

Speaker 2 (24:37):
We've been talking about the offense quite a bit.

Speaker 4 (24:39):
Defensively, Trayvon Merrick had eleven tackles, Christian Roseboom had eleven tackles,
and so did Claude Cherylis, who was filling in as
the starting linebacker with Trevin Wallace injured in the game,
and the guys caught up with him postgame for this interview.

Speaker 8 (24:51):
Any Schroflukeickley joined by Panthers linebacker Claude and Cheryliss. Let's
just start with this. You got a front row seat
watching this offense and watching your quarterback. Describe Bryce Young's
performance today.

Speaker 10 (25:05):
I mean, it was a hell of performance, but it was,
you know, nothing that surprised us. You know, we see
a day in, day out and on practice, and you know,
I've been with Bryce since his rookie year, so you know,
I got that confidence in it. But I know he
can make the throws and make the reads, so you know, I'm.

Speaker 7 (25:18):
Proud of him to day.

Speaker 11 (25:20):
Yeah, Claude and Luke here, congrats in a great win.
You played Austin today. What did anything change in the
game when Pennix went out Kirk Cousins came in for
you guys on defense?

Speaker 8 (25:28):
Uh?

Speaker 7 (25:29):
Nothing, you know the first half we knew that wasn't us.

Speaker 10 (25:32):
You know, we were bind ourselves on foot, so you
know when eighteen came in, it was, you know, same conversations,
just you know, layer technique and ye or something cool.

Speaker 11 (25:42):
Hey, one last question for it and that last third down,
last third down play to Drake London you med to
being incomplete with j C.

Speaker 8 (25:49):
Horn.

Speaker 11 (25:49):
What what did you see on that play to push
you over to Drake London's side?

Speaker 6 (25:53):
Oh?

Speaker 10 (25:53):
Yeah, credited my coaches, you know, made made adjustments and
you know the down that's their guy, so you know
it's the boss coming out quick and it's going to him.
You know, he's a head of the player, so you know,
I just had to play fast and trust my training.

Speaker 8 (26:09):
Good awesome boy. Just two more for you for me here. One.
When the decision was made in overtime to play defense
first and kick, what did that do for you guys
on defense.

Speaker 4 (26:21):
I mean, we're.

Speaker 10 (26:22):
Always ready to go, you know, no matter of the situation,
no matter what it is. So you know, when the
decision was made for us to go first, you know
we were prepared. We knew if we got to stop,
you know, we would go home.

Speaker 8 (26:33):
With a w. We've seen resiliency from you guys all season,
week to week in game you're always able to bounce back.
Where does that come from?

Speaker 7 (26:44):
Uh, just what we appreciating day.

Speaker 10 (26:46):
You know finished, you know, that's the biggest thing. Like
I said, first half, you know we would find ourselves
at the foot, you know, we would be in ourselves
more so. And we had that conversation halftime in the locker,
move made our adjustments and you know, second.

Speaker 2 (26:59):
Half the right way.

Speaker 10 (27:01):
You know, we still got to come in and start
fastest and got a future brother, you know, we'll take
them how they come.

Speaker 8 (27:07):
Absolutely enjoyed this one.

Speaker 2 (27:09):
Claude, thank you all right?

Speaker 4 (27:11):
So Claude cheryless playing well, Eugene, you thought took up
a whole while to get acclimated during the course of
the game, but he liked how he finished out.

Speaker 5 (27:18):
Yeah, there was some zone stuff that we saw early
in the game when London had he went down for
that the very first drive went down on testdown, Well,
he's behind the linebacker and that Cherless position not getting
enough depth and also got his eyes on the quarterback
and not filling the receiver and moving with that receiver.
So there was some plays and Claude mentioned himself that, hey,

(27:41):
we have to get ourselves going because they weren't getting
themselves going. There was some mistackles earlier. They weren't getting
themselves going. But I thought they did an amazing job
in the second half. And let me give a lot
of props on it was Cherless, and I believe it
was also J. C. Horn On that played with London
on that critical third down in that overtime period.

Speaker 8 (28:01):
Well j C.

Speaker 5 (28:03):
Horn got his hand in there on left hand and
almost like to punch the ball out, So I don't think.
I mean, of course Claude hits him and it's the
fin of the ball comes out, but that ball looked
like it was gonna come out anyway because of the
aggressive play of the cornerbacks. And so that's what I
meant by they didn't give up on their aggressive play,

(28:24):
even though they had some penalties on them about some
DPIs and things of that or holding. They didn't give
up on that, and I'm glad to see they didn't
get up them on that because they were so aggressive
that paid dividends in the long run.

Speaker 6 (28:38):
Yeah, I just thought, you know, the way to kind
of step in like that and you know, kind of
handling the play calling on the defense, and that's a big,
a big part of the big part of the job,
especially when Trevin Wallas has been doing such a great
job at it. So to kind of step in and
kind of somewhat seamlessly, you know, it was a good
It was good and then it's great to see the

(28:59):
you know the I think the one thing you worry
about when when teams are struggling is you know, how.

Speaker 3 (29:03):
Are both sides with each other.

Speaker 6 (29:04):
But the fact that they kind of gave Bryce some
flowers to their I thought that was good sign because
you know, this team is really starting to play complimentary football.

Speaker 5 (29:13):
And another thing that I liked with the you didn't
talk about complimentary. I've also thought that the defense was
faster in the second half. They seemed to move better,
and they they they weren't a step out of it,
and they seemed to corral and take care of the
edges better so that b Jeon Robinson couldn't get on
the outside because they like to run that stretch play

(29:35):
going left or right, and that dude's patient and when
he'll wait and he'll cut, he'll see that guy bow Man,
he's gone, dude.

Speaker 7 (29:41):
But they were able to go ahead.

Speaker 5 (29:43):
And get penetration, and they were able to go ahead
and keep them corralled. And the best thing the gang
tackling on a man like b Sean Robinson, that was huge.
So they really, I thought defensively coaching Jerrow, I gave
him mouch props shut down that running game and then
said to Kirk Cousins, can you beat us throwing the ball?

Speaker 7 (30:04):
And the worst question is asked, is no.

Speaker 6 (30:07):
Part of the reason why the defense was flying around
so fast is the offense had ten more minutes on
time of possession exactly.

Speaker 7 (30:13):
I mean, if we have thirty seven minutes to their
twenty seven, maybe.

Speaker 4 (30:15):
You keep that offense on the sidelines a little bit longer,
and yeah, that all pays off complementary football that way.

Speaker 2 (30:20):
As Kirk Cousins will say, you like that, you like that.
I don't think you like this, No, you don't like that.
We liked it though.

Speaker 4 (30:26):
Panthers win thirty to twenty seven, and over time we'll
still hear from a coach Dave Canalis, from Luke and
Jake and Denish, and we'll have our hardest working in
the player. A lot much more to get to those
as we continue in the post game show coming up here.
And the Panthers win today over Atlanta.

Speaker 1 (30:41):
Back to the Panthers postgame show live from Bank of
America Stadium, exclusively on the Carolina Panthers Radio Network.

Speaker 4 (30:52):
All right, big win for the Carolina Panthers today in Atlanta.
The ad the six and five on the season, thirty
to twenty seven in overtime. The final score up nature
brought to you by hrim Health, doing more to keep
you moving and achieving and striving at every agent stage
so you can live fully. And of course the number
of things we could talk about, but the quarterbacks both
were central to it today. Bryce Young left the game
briefly with an ankle injury, came back obviously to throw

(31:15):
four four hundred and forty eight yards and have a
big game. As it turned out, didn't need Andy Dalton
just had to go back and get the ankle probably
retaped or so forth. Michael Pennox Junior though, however, for
Atlanta did have to leave the game with the knee
injury in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 2 (31:28):
Kirk Cousins came in.

Speaker 4 (31:29):
It was just six or fourteen forty eight yards after that,
so injuries affecting both of the team's quarterback wise. It's
good back to Atlanta now and the guys have coach
Dave Canals with him.

Speaker 8 (31:39):
We're joined by Panthers head coach Dave Canalis at Ashraf
Luke Kigley. Let's start with your quarterback, coach, what was
it like watching Bryce Young deal and cook today?

Speaker 12 (31:48):
It was truly one of the most gritty, character, depth
fire performances that I've been a part of, and I've
been around some awesome quarterbacks, and just the way that
he uh weathered through the injuries is the innery out
is he out, He comes back in, leads us on, drives,
distributes the ball well, and just really just found wins

(32:12):
any way, shape or form. And I'm just really proud
of the way that Bryce played today.

Speaker 11 (32:18):
Coach, I just just want to say congratulations on a great,
great win. Just talk about nine guys with catches, seven
guys with multiple catches and Rob Moore and that in
that wide receiver room really shown up today.

Speaker 12 (32:28):
Yeah, I'm really proud of the group, a group that's
been really working hard on the side, Luke. They've been
having conversations all season, you know, at practice in between
fine tuning the little things in our concepts that we
love and that we trust in and to see the
work payoff for the guys, you know, where we've really
been leaning on our run game and knowing that the
defenses are going to try to play us a certain way.

(32:50):
To have that kind of balance and even in the
past game, you know, to make teamac a focal point
of what we're doing should allow opportunities to show up
for other guys. Exus took advantage, Jalen Koker took advantage
of tight ends, took advantage certainly today and it really
just felt like a balanced attack.

Speaker 11 (33:07):
Can you kind of talk about the approach at the
end of the game going into overtime, the approach on
whether you receive it or you kick that ball off.
What do you guys look for in that.

Speaker 12 (33:15):
You know, we really chose to kick the ball because
our defense had been playing so well in the second
half so we thought, if we can kick the ball
back there and get a stop, we'll have a shorter
field to work with coming back. And they made a
couple of plays, you know, and we had to go
the distance. But Tommy's play really put us in position there.
But that was the thought process behind that.

Speaker 11 (33:33):
That was a gritty, gritty run by Tommy Trumble right there.
That's kind of what we expect from him.

Speaker 12 (33:37):
Unbelievable, you know, to be able to really third third
in progression on that play, to be where he's supposed
to be when he's supposed to be there, make the catch,
split it, and then get us a huge play into
field goal range. Unbelievable. And that's the type of toughness
that Tommy has, whether it's in the run game, pass
game and protection or just running routes. You know, he's
a guy that we really count on and really exemplifies
what Panthers football is about.

Speaker 8 (33:58):
Thanks Coach ye Dave. What we here's the big adjustment
in this game at halftime that really changed things.

Speaker 12 (34:04):
We had to settle in with the run game. It
was really just mistackles and we had to just own
and stay in our leverage, stay in our gaps. Nobody
needs to go make a play outside of scheme. Just
let the places come to you, and we did a
good job of that, and then settling in certainly, you know,
them shifting quarterbacks, you know, into the second half with
Kirk Cousins coming in, we were able to disrupt some
rhythm a little bit, but Kirk found a couple of

(34:25):
completions and brought them back to tie it up. You know,
But I was really just proud of the way the
defense just they were so resilient and you know, regardless
of what the first half looked like, they settled in,
held them to six points and gave us a chance
to win.

Speaker 8 (34:37):
Coach won last one. And it's on Bryce. Yeah, he's
so good about blocking out the noise and all week
everyone's wondering, well, is he gonna throw the ball? Is
he gonna do this? And you know, we talked about
it on the Monday Show. But for him to set
a franchise record for passing yards and I know a
lot of that you'll say is that's what the defense
gave you. But when you kind of watch that, you

(34:58):
just see how none of that seems to ever affect
Tim like from a head coach's perspective, What does that
say about the player?

Speaker 12 (35:04):
He just wants to win and he doesn't care how
we do it. And today we needed him to throw
the ball and he did and did an unbelievable job.
But to broaden this thing out, it's a group thing.
It's been all of us working so hard to make
this thing come alive, to feel this attack, you know,
to where if we start getting lighter boxes, we know
we can run the ball. Can we be effective and
dangerous in the past game And today that showed up.

(35:25):
And I'm so excited for the direction of this group.

Speaker 8 (35:27):
Yeah, I think we all are. Dave appreciate it. We'll
talk to you tomorrow, all right.

Speaker 7 (35:30):
Thank you?

Speaker 4 (35:31):
All right, Coach Dave Canal is there? You guys would
just take a thing away from his slots. I mean
they're pretty you know, all team related there as far
as like that's always the same approach every week. But
everybody kind of had a hand in this victory today.

Speaker 6 (35:44):
No, and I think he was he was absolutely right, Eugene.
I mean, this was one of those games where you know,
when you look at all the different receivers that had
even though in Tommy Tumble's case, it was one catch,
but just impactful catches, right.

Speaker 3 (35:56):
And so you know, I think when we've seen this
team lose, we've seen guys kind of losing their one
on one battles.

Speaker 6 (36:01):
But today, you know, those one on one battles were
being won and big players were being made.

Speaker 7 (36:06):
The receivering class.

Speaker 5 (36:07):
I mean that he said that those guys have been
taking on accountability and been talking amongst themselves, or they
showed up. They really showed up. And here it is
that I'm also talking about the type of catches where
they snatched the ball out of the air. Cochers a
team mac leget. They they were snatching the ball out

(36:27):
of the airs that that ball belongs to me, as
opposed to like letting the ball come to you a
little bit.

Speaker 7 (36:33):
They were getting on the ground for the ball.

Speaker 5 (36:35):
They were they were showing up at the crucial moments
where you have to pick up a first down on
this fourth down or you're done. And I mean, I
thought they did a wonderful job. So kudoos to that group.
That group showed up and showed out, no doubt, and
they had the explosive plays which coach has been talking about.
We need more explosives. The Saints last week had more

(36:57):
explosives than we had. We have no explosives. Today. We
had a lot of explosive plays and Tommy Trimble, I
know it was only one play, but that one play
was significant because you went through four or five Atlanta
Falcons to go ahead and put ourselves in and in
contention to kick a field go and that was great.

Speaker 6 (37:17):
And the team is responding to Dave Canalis. I mean
when you when you listen about how the messaging is
kind of and that when I say changed, it's changed
because once they hit like a milestone, if you will,
they can kind of continue to move on.

Speaker 1 (37:29):
Right.

Speaker 6 (37:29):
It's like because the mantra last year and maybe the
beginning of this year was how important ball security was. Well,
now that they're protecting about the football, so now it's
you know, you can see his team is really really
kind of being on playing on the same page.

Speaker 5 (37:43):
And here's what I think needs as they're going forward
is consistency. When when they get back here to to Charlotte,
the whole town is gonna be buzzing' You're gonna have
the victory Monday, You're gonna have all that stuff in
itself is gonna be so much right. Can you move
forward on the next game and take the same approach
and the same can you handle success?

Speaker 7 (38:05):
Yeah? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (38:06):
And when you can't, that's what the big letdown comes
because everybody's rooting for you, everybody's behind you. And so
from that standpoint, I'm hoping that as they're moving forward,
I think then what the word needs to be is
consistency and dominate because you're good enough to do it.

(38:26):
You're you're good enough to go ahead and do it.
And so we saw that today. I guess a really
good Atlanta Falcon team. You know, forget what their record is.
Those boys can play.

Speaker 2 (38:34):
Yeah, they're talented. It's to your point.

Speaker 4 (38:37):
I talk every week Steve Logan, the former East Carolina
coach coach of the NFL a lot of years, and
I go on a show every week and we can
talk about the Panthers every week, and after a loss,
he says, you know, what are you gonna do about it?
And when you win, he says, what are you gonna
do with it? So now it's like, what are the
Panthers gonna do with what they accomplished here? And it's
been up and down where we laugh every week because

(38:57):
there hasn't been outside that three game win streak, a
lot of canssistancy. So hopefully this team's hitting its dried
and now they're sharing. They can win in different ways.
It's not a one dimensional We have to be able
to run Rico or we're not going to win or whatever.

Speaker 7 (39:08):
So what is the bye?

Speaker 3 (39:12):
So it's coming up.

Speaker 6 (39:13):
There's two more's at San Francisco, then here against the Rams,
then the bye week, and then they have four games
at New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Seattle, and then at Tampa Bay.

Speaker 2 (39:20):
And it's like the bye week's like after the season.

Speaker 7 (39:24):
And I like the fact that there's no bye week
this week.

Speaker 2 (39:28):
Yeah, you have that momentum.

Speaker 7 (39:29):
Yeah, because I want this momentum.

Speaker 5 (39:30):
I want this hide to continue, and I want the
realization that go into people's homes, take their lunch money,
beat them up legally and then get out of dodge
or if they come to your spot, punch them in
their mouth legally and send them home. That needs to
be moving forward because this team has the skill level
to get it done.

Speaker 7 (39:51):
They do.

Speaker 5 (39:52):
And so I know we've been critical on Bryce, and
I know the community has been critical on Bryce Is
he a guy?

Speaker 7 (39:58):
Is he a guy?

Speaker 5 (39:59):
Everybody's been saying that everywhere. I'd go, Hey, man, do
you think Bryce is a guy? I'm like, yeah, I
think Bryce.

Speaker 7 (40:03):
Is a guy.

Speaker 5 (40:04):
Well, Bryce said today, look I'm the guy, and I'm
not going anywhere because his performance, wow was spectacle.

Speaker 6 (40:11):
Well, I think you have to take Bryce for who
he is and not kind of compare him against other quarterbacks.

Speaker 3 (40:16):
I mean, he is who he is.

Speaker 6 (40:18):
And because a lot of times because I'm hearing the
same thing as you are, and everyone's you know, always
kind of comparing him to past quarterbacks here, and he's
not like those guys.

Speaker 3 (40:25):
He's his own guy.

Speaker 5 (40:26):
Yeah, he's He's not your Cam Newton, Cam Newton, big
target run Cam Newton was since running over Yeah. Yeah,
and Cam Newton was so sensational. And don't forget Cam
Newton's like six.

Speaker 2 (40:37):
Six, that's a different thing. That's all different.

Speaker 7 (40:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (40:40):
So you know, uh, and Bryce is what five ten
and a half maybe right around that, you know, maybe
that's stretching it in a little bit, five to eleven
in cleats, so we're stretching it. But what I do
like about Bryce I like about the mox he has.

Speaker 7 (40:56):
Yes, I liked his medal. He's gritty, Yeah, he's he's
he's gritty.

Speaker 5 (41:00):
And I would like to see Bryce get madder even more,
get angry even more like last week. Yeah, I would
like to see we should have want my born?

Speaker 2 (41:10):
Why did we win in regulation?

Speaker 7 (41:11):
Yeah? We should have, wondered.

Speaker 5 (41:13):
But I would like to see him get you know,
I want him to be mad and and and and
and p old a little bit as he as we're
moving forward, because I think that I think he's really sensational,
and he showed it today.

Speaker 7 (41:27):
I mean, no what it looked like he had four
or something yards and.

Speaker 2 (41:30):
He did it was like a quiet It was a
quiet for forty yards.

Speaker 7 (41:33):
But he had what three touchdowns?

Speaker 3 (41:34):
Yea three touchdowns?

Speaker 2 (41:35):
Interceptions?

Speaker 7 (41:36):
Yeah? What was this quarterback? Rated?

Speaker 5 (41:37):
Out of one twenty three point two? Bryce just sold out? Man,
you've man, you was huge.

Speaker 7 (41:43):
Bryce. What I'm telling you bad? Go ahead, dude, take
him up.

Speaker 4 (41:47):
With those numbers that it sounds like a good one
three point two at point two. Put him over the top.

Speaker 7 (41:51):
Yeah, point too, dude.

Speaker 2 (41:52):
We'll take a time out. Much more to come.

Speaker 4 (41:53):
We're enjoying a thirty to twenty seven postgame show victory.
In Atlanta today for the Carolina Panthers. More to come
next on the Carolina Panthers Radio Network. Carolina Panthers win
thirty to twenty seven in overtime at Atlanta, improved the
record of six and five, half a game behind the

(42:15):
Tampa Bay Buccaneers for first place in the NFC South. Meanwhile,
Atlanta's lost yet another game five in a row. They
fall to three and seven on the season. Back to
Alando's hit the final Fodge Now with the Niche, Luke
and Jake.

Speaker 8 (42:26):
The two best games of Bryce Young's career have come
in the Mercedes Benz Building here in Atlanta. Final score
Panthers thirty, Falcons twenty seven. Ryan Fitzgerald gets the game
winning twenty eight yard field goal in overtime. But Bryce
Young is the story, and he'll be the story this week.
Thirty one to forty five, four to forty eight, three touchdowns. Oh,

(42:48):
by the way, that was against the number one passing
defense in the NFL. Took a couple of sacks early,
brushed it off, got banged up early. We saw him
come back in the game, didn't even miss a series.
He made all the big plays the receivers made plays
a career game from Ted Roha McMillan, and you know,
it's become a broken record, but I think we're starting

(43:10):
to find out the resolve and the resiliency of this
team is real. They get knocked down, they get back up.
It was like that terrible song from the nineties, but
we're starting to see it with Carolina. They're six and
five now. The losses don't snowball, they don't avalanche. If
you can zoom out and not get lost in the

(43:31):
week to week emotions, you know what you're seeing. And
you're so seeing a franchise that is growing, that's getting better.
And I thought again today for Bryce Young, I mean,
these are the type of games the franchise quarterbacks play.

Speaker 7 (43:45):
You know what.

Speaker 13 (43:45):
We felt this way the last game of the season
last year and here in its exact booth, we felt
that way. And yeah, we saw some flashes this year,
but just we haven't seen it enough. And I think
it just comes back to these young receivers and it's
gotta be you gotta grow, right, you got to grow
with these guys, and we we we said it at Link.
Adam feeling was always security blanket. David Moore whenever he

(44:06):
was in there last year, those guys Bryce felt comfortable
because I think mentally, I think he's very sharp and
he might have been a little bit ahead of the
young wide receivers. And you know what, that's it's he's
supposed to be. Uh But you saw a trust factor.
You hit it a niche I keep going back to it.
You hit the trust factor. He let the ball go
today and he was confident, and it wasn't all great

(44:26):
because he did have some sacks that he took today.
I mean, heck, he got stepped on on on a
fourth down play that looked like could have been could
have been the end of the game for us from
channelers of olive when he got stepped on. But so
many guys stepped up Princely watching Princely run down on kickoff,
make kickoff and recovering the fumble.

Speaker 2 (44:43):
Uh on on a kickoff.

Speaker 13 (44:44):
But man, that's we're not afraid to throw to have
a stinker and then we come we come back right now.
We have an extra day to prepare. We're gonna need it.
We're a banged up football team. We're a bang up
football team that hasn't had a buy yet. We have
two tough opponents, two NFC West opponents back to back.
We got to travel to the West coast, but you

(45:05):
know what, it's nothing greater than the Beata Division rival
at home in overtime, the way we did it, and
to watch our youth show up. Our youth showed up
today in the best way. And that's what I think
was so great.

Speaker 7 (45:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (45:18):
Absolutely kind of echo what you said, Jake. Just the
guys an offense showed up today. And I agree with
you on Bryce sometimes he lets balls go. We've seen
this this season so far, and it looks like somebody's
a little bit off and Bryce looks frustrated. He certainly
looked frustrated after last week last week's game, but today
early in the gamer, like we have rhythm, we have confidence.
Bryce looks like he's got a great feel for what's

(45:39):
going on. He was doing a good job making adjustments.
When he felt conviction to check the ball down, he
didn't think about it, which gave our guys an opportunity
to do something with it after they caught it in
the flat. And then I think on the defensive side
of the ball, we were far from perfect today. But
I thought Claude Cherliss did a really good job stepping
in for Trevin just he was acting. He had ten tackles,

(46:01):
but the physicality that he brought to the game, the
big the big incompletion on Drake London, he didn't come
back in after that. He had the big stick on
Bijon Robinson. He was active. I think guys, I think
guys like Trayvon Mehrik are really starting to show up
and establish themselves as a guy that can blitz, can
play it, can play deep, can play true DV, can
slide down and play you know what, a nickel linebacker

(46:22):
spot for us. I think Jake also made a really
good point in the sense our team, we're so young,
and we can play really poorly in the comeback out
the next week and play, and I think that that
just talks a lot about the resilience of this team.
I think everybody kind of talked a lot about maybe
it wasn't our best week of practice against New Orleans.
A lot was made of that. Multiple guys talked about it,
and it looks like these guys really locked in last week,

(46:42):
put their best foot forward, came down here on the
road against a tough a tough team skill wise, and
we're able to come out and get a win.

Speaker 8 (46:50):
Luke, I don't want to get too far ahead. But
Tampa lost today.

Speaker 11 (46:54):
They did lose.

Speaker 8 (46:55):
The Panthers are a half game out of first place
in the division. Here's food for thought. Next Sunday night,
the Bucks go and play the La Rams. If Tampa
loses that game, the Panthers will be playing on Monday
night for first place in the NFC South and.

Speaker 2 (47:12):
That'd be great.

Speaker 11 (47:12):
And then we get Tampa two more times at the
end of the season and we play we play the
Saints again. So the division. If it's Ron Rivera used
to always talk about this, We just need to control
our business. If we control our business, that last game
of the season down in Tampa could have a lot
a lot on the line, and that's all you want
to play. Late season football that matters. And we put
ourselves in position with the win the day to make

(47:34):
that happen.

Speaker 8 (47:36):
The guys on the post game, we'll talk about it. Right.
What would the Panthers do when teams start selling out
and taking away the run? Well, last week against New Orleans, yup,
pick up no way around it. This week, Atlanta tried
to stop the run. They took away the run for
most of the game. Bryce Young threw for the most
passing yards in a single game by any quarterback in

(48:00):
franchise history.

Speaker 4 (48:02):
That's impressive. And I did not see that one coming
heading into this game today. Of all the things I
thought might happen, a franchise record for passing yards was
not on the schedule.

Speaker 6 (48:11):
Did not see that. But you know what, you know,
sometimes I think we get stuck in this in this
world of like everything so instantaneous, Like, well, they couldn't
stop the wing. What that means they can't they can't
ever they can't ever beat that. Well that they were
able to do that, and now they've they've kind of
created their own roadmap now because teams will still probably
try to do that, and now they'll have to contend

(48:31):
with the passing game as well.

Speaker 5 (48:32):
You know, And we used to always have a thing
we said, if you win in November, you set yourself
to be in the playoffs. And so this is really
imperative that you're able to win games in November.

Speaker 7 (48:43):
And this is gonna be a pretty good stretch too.

Speaker 5 (48:45):
You got you got the Seahawks coming up on Monday
night football. So but if you win, dude, you set
yourself up. And every every guy is trying to get
into the playoffs because they want to win a super Bowl.

Speaker 7 (49:01):
And so you don't care how you get there.

Speaker 5 (49:03):
You don't care if you get there, you know, you know,
scratching and claw or just limping in, you don't care.
You just want to get there because once you get there,
our best are off. And now is a new ball game.
And so I like where we are. I just would
like what you said is like, what do we do
with the win that we just had today? What do
we do with that win? And you need to see

(49:25):
consistency and you need to see that dog come out
in these car a lot of Panthers to go ahead.

Speaker 4 (49:29):
And the year we went seven eight and one, we
won a playoff game too, that's right, exactly right. You
want four in a playoff game to make it five
in a row.

Speaker 6 (49:36):
Well, and this is a schedule with six games remaining
that if you you know, if you come out of
this stretch four and too, you've earned you've earned the
playoffs and none on that. But you've played, You've beaten
teams that will prepare you to hopefully do well in
the playoffs.

Speaker 5 (49:49):
And never it is the testing that needs to happen
during a season where you, you know, look like you
don't win a game, and you don't, you get blowed out,
and you're like, oh, my goodness, we're not as good
as we think we are. And then you go ahead
and prove that you are as good as that you
think you are. And then you start beating teams, going
into Green Bay and beating the team, and going down

(50:10):
to Atlanta beating the team. Did you realize that, hey,
hold on, wait a minute, dude, we got something smoking
right here. So I like where we are. I think
we are a young team. I think we are young
coaching staff, and I'm not going to use that as
in the excuse. I think this team needs to be
aggressive and get after it because you have a great

(50:30):
opportunity to go ahead and change the narrative that everybody
thought you're just going to be a mediocre team this year.

Speaker 2 (50:36):
All right, good stuff when we come back.

Speaker 4 (50:38):
Mike's gott another scoreboard update to get us up to
date with what's going on in the afternoon games, in
particular in the NFL. I want to mention Belk is
a proud partner of the Carolina Panthers and your hometown
favorite in the fashion game since eighteen eighty eight, and
this holiday season here Belk has great deals on gifts
and hosting essentials and party outfits and so much more.

Speaker 2 (50:55):
Belk in the game since eighteen eighty eight.

Speaker 4 (50:58):
When we come back, a check of the score, and
then we'll have our hardest working player of the game
all on tap. Following up Panthers victory in Atlanta today
in overtime thirty to twenty seven.

Speaker 1 (51:07):
Back to chim zok live from the Bank of America
Stadium with the Panthers postgame show exclusively on the Carolina
Panthers Radio Network.

Speaker 6 (51:20):
Back at Bank of America Stadium, I am Mike Pachico
alongside Eugene Robinson and Jim Zochi. Panthers winning today in
overtime thirty to twenty seven, taking a look at the
some of the late scores here in these a couple
of these games, guys, we were just talking about these
teams because they're going to be upcoming opponents for the Panthers.
San Francisco up next on Monday Night right now, twenty
five to ten with the Niners over the Cardinals. That's

(51:43):
at the half. In that game, Christian McCaffrey has two touchdowns.
He has a rushing score and in a receiving score.
Brock Purty has two touchdowns in that game. Seattle and
the LA Rams, they're battling it out right now. Sam
Darnold for the Seahawks two picks in this game. For
right now the Rams to five point lead, fourteen to night.
Seahawks have the ball with the just entering the third

(52:05):
quarter in that game and then also going on right
now in the second quarter. Cleveland Day sixteen to ten
lead over the Baltimore Ravens and Denver Kansas City. That
game is all even at six apiece. Detroit Philadelphia is
the Sunday night game. Monday Night is Dallas at Las
Vegas and earlier, speaking of teams, at the Panthers will

(52:26):
face Tampa Bay. They lose to Buffalo forty four to
thirty two, and guys, the first score goami, maybe the
only score of Gami of the day, but this score
has never happened in the NFL before forty four thirty two.

Speaker 3 (52:38):
Tampa Bay losing at.

Speaker 4 (52:39):
Buffalo forty four to thirty two forty four thirty two
has never happened in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (52:44):
That's crazy to our friends at Scoragami.

Speaker 7 (52:46):
Okay, yeah, you would think. So.

Speaker 2 (52:48):
It's amazing. We keep checking the boxes, wonder how many
more left.

Speaker 6 (52:51):
Well, it's actually still quite a few, but obviously a
lot of the lower numbers are starting to fill up.

Speaker 12 (52:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (52:57):
You know, one thing that we didn't we haven't talked
about is the special teams play of the pitt Carolina Panthers,
and particularly that fumble that you know, punching them kind
of punching the ball out of that. I mean, there
was a concerted effort to go ahead from the special teams,
to go ahead and limit what they do. They did that,

(53:20):
and I thought the only mishap that they had was
at that last one where they got you know, the
guy got a forty yard kick return. I thought that
a couple of guys bumped into each other and missed
the opportunity to go ahead and pin them back. But
I thought special teams wise, I thought we were really
good solid.

Speaker 4 (53:40):
When you win, it makes it all better. So there
were things that could have been better in the game,
no doubt about it.

Speaker 2 (53:45):
But you get the win.

Speaker 4 (53:46):
And if I'm Atlanta, I'm scratching my head how they
have so much individual talent and they can't put it together.
I think Raheem Morris is a good coach, so maybe
it's a coordinator thing.

Speaker 2 (53:53):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (53:54):
But whatever reason, that collection of talent, it's not happening.
And I don't know why it's it's I love it
that it's not. But if you told me that team
would be three and sevens, no, I would never think.

Speaker 3 (54:05):
That, especially with b Jon Robinson.

Speaker 4 (54:07):
Oh no, I would never take London. I mean, Drake London,
the guys they've got pass rushing. I mean it's just
like A. J.

Speaker 2 (54:12):
Terrell was back today. They didn't have him the first time.

Speaker 3 (54:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (54:15):
So, and I think there's a lot of similarity between
Saw Team Mac and Jake London, the way they play.
They just they just kind of yeah, they just kind
of remind me of each other. And I was like, well,
I see where you know why Jake London is really
really good and I see why T Mac is very
very good.

Speaker 2 (54:33):
All right, Well, you guys know what happens next.

Speaker 4 (54:35):
We always build towards a big moment, the crowning of
the hardest working player of the game. Our final segment

Speaker 4 (57:40):
The hardest working player of the game, brought to you
by sun Belt Reynolds, the official rental equipment partner of
the Carolina Panthers, who went today in overtime thirty twenty
seven over Atlanta speaking with Mike Pachico.

Speaker 2 (57:50):
Who you got all right?

Speaker 6 (57:51):
I'm gonna go with mister Atlanta. Bryce Young thirty one
and forty five and a forty eight yards three touchdowns,
came back, you know, had that brief little injury, but
was able to get worked on in the locker room,
came back out, had a career day here and had
his fourth game winning drive this year.

Speaker 3 (58:09):
So that's that's my guy, mister Atlanta.

Speaker 2 (58:11):
Mister Atlanta for now and forever.

Speaker 5 (58:13):
Okay, So what you got, Eugene, Well, I'm thinking of
Merick because I thought he played excessfully well from the
safety spot, did a great job, but also Shareless did
a wonderful job of coming in for Wallace and and
really showing up. But I think I'm gonna have to
go with Bryce Young as well, because I thought that
Bryce did enough, more than enough, and he answered the

(58:34):
questions that everybody here and the Caroline to say, Bryce,
are you the guy? Can you be that guy? Can
you go ahead? And and when it's on your shoulders,
can you win? And he asked that question.

Speaker 4 (58:43):
So Bryce is our choice. I'm gonna give an honorable
mention to Tommy Trumble made all of one catch, but
did a lot of hard work heading into that one catch.

Speaker 2 (58:52):
Fifty four yards.

Speaker 4 (58:53):
It's the way he got the fifty four yards as
he fought through half of the Atlanta defense would not
give up on that play, got the Panthers deeply into
field goal range to set up the game winning points.
And the way just his effort of not giving up
on that play. The water I got to give an
honorable mention was called quality h two.

Speaker 7 (59:09):
Oh no, gatoray 's two ol Gatoray. What this sucks?

Speaker 5 (59:17):
Really?

Speaker 8 (59:17):
Really?

Speaker 7 (59:18):
All right? That's all we got.

Speaker 4 (59:20):
Next up is a week from Monday, Monday Night football,
so we could have I guess we're not doing victory
Monday after the last time we did a victory Monday,
So we'll have a Monday Tomorrow and then we'll have
a Monday game the following week at San Francisco for
Mike and Eugenis.

Speaker 2 (59:33):
Jim, thanks for joining us again.
