Speaker 1 (00:03):
Red with the Panthers postgame show exclusively on the Carolina
Panthers Radio Network.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Well, we now know why I'm about the head coach
in the National Football ha. Oh my goodness. I'm sitting
there going, no, don't play for the field goal. Throw
it at the end zone, take a shot. Come on, No, No,
Eugene Robinson, Mike Pachico here, glad to Matthew with us.
Apparently Dave Canalis knows more about this than I do. Yes,

(00:32):
yes he does. I'm going you gotta get closer, you
gotta get closer. No, Ryan Fitzgerald a forty nine yard
field goal as time expires. The Panthers stunned the Green
Bay Packers at lambeau Field sixteen to thirteen. And boy,
what a great win this is for the Panthers.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
Guys.

Speaker 4 (00:51):
I'm telling you, going into Lambeo is one of the
hardest places to play. There's no doubt about that. The
fans are rabbit. They seem to play extremely well home,
and to go in there and to beat them at
their own game and to really control the clock and
control the ball. I thought, offensively the Carolina Panthers, and
we can talk about the defense, but offensively, making Rico

(01:14):
Dowdle the person making him the lead back was the
best thing. And I know the fans been clamoring for it,
but my goodness, Rico showed up and he showed out.
And the patience in which he runs the ball, that explosiveness,
My goodness, he was outstanding, outstand and he has some
big runs called back and so I'll tell you what

(01:36):
I thought. It was a complete effort defensively, offensively, special
teams wise.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
This is a great win for the Carolina Panthers and Lambeofield.

Speaker 5 (01:44):
Yeah, and the defense showed out as well with the turnovers,
the turnover on downs, you know, miss field goal, miss
field goal. I mean, this is one of the toughest
places that eugen can can attest to having played there.
It's a tough place to go in, especially this late
in the year.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
Now.

Speaker 5 (02:00):
It wasn't you know, frozen tundra territory. It was in
the what mid forties and relatively clear, but was a
little bit windy, and that was a big factor down
the stretch. But you know, the offense rallied behind ric
O'Donnell and then the defense made big plays when they
had to.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
Yeah, I think they frustrated the Packers.

Speaker 4 (02:18):
I mean offensively, it just seems like Love wasn't in
that groove. I mean, I don't think coach laflor Seene
was in a groove all day because had something to
do with our defense. And here it is, I got
to give coach Jerrold a lot of credit. There was
some timely blisses that head up right in the gut.
We saw Wallace, we saw Rose boom right in the
face of Love like leg I'm about to go ahead

(02:39):
and punch you in the mouth. And there was nothing
he can do about it. He had to throw the
ball away. He had to get rid of the ball
quickly and expontitionally because there was that onslaught of people
in your face. And that didn't happen last week. I mean,
we didn't treat Allen that way. But I'll tell you
what I think that coach and Jerrold learned a lesson
and say, hey, I'm not gonna let you sit back

(02:59):
there and beat me Love in the pocket.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
I'm going after you, and they went after them.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
If I were to tell you before the game the
Green Bay will not punk the ball at all, well, yeah,
what do you what would you tell me the odds
are they only end up with thirteen points.

Speaker 5 (03:17):
No, I would have said they put it one by
thirteen exactly.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
I mean, you would not think that they would you.

Speaker 4 (03:24):
As prolific as this offense can be, and with the
Jacobs and with the guys have Dobs and the guys
they have that they can get the ball to and
in their quarterback, you would think that they could put
a lot of points up on you.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
And that was not the narrative today.

Speaker 4 (03:39):
The story was keeping those points off the board and
keeping the control of the clock and making sure there's
no big explosive plays. We should have had a couple
of more interceptions if you tell the truth, I mean
that one that would Jack and in the end zone,
I'm saying, Jack, if you catch that ball cleanly, the
only person who's going to stop you maybe is gonna

(03:59):
be the quarterback who has to run on the other
side of the field because you got a you know,
a real fast unlesson you know, you're going against somebody
like Metcalf or somebody like that who can run down people.
But there was an opportunity for us to go ahead
and really just deceive even some more damage.

Speaker 5 (04:15):
And he was on the left hash over by the yumbers,
So for him to kind of circle back and to
sprint down there, that would have been a tough play.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
You had, Gene, you had an interest observation of that,
because I walked I came to you and said, I
think Mike Jack was looking all the way down the
field and that's why he dropped the ball. I think
because he was looking and going how far is it
down there that I'm gonna have to run? But you
had an interestant observation. Why do you think he dropped
the ball?

Speaker 4 (04:39):
Yes, I think he dumped the ball because he jumped
up in their to catch the ball. And typically what
happens with defensive backs we're not like receivers. Receivers are
always taught to catch the ball, reach out for it,
and they're always keeping their feet on the ground. If
they have to jump, that means they have to really
go ahead and stretch out for the ball. Defensive backs,
on the other hand, when you jumping for the ball
is sometimes it's because you're not comfortable catching the ball

(05:00):
with your hands and you give that jump as a cushion.
But the only problem with that is when you jump,
you change the levels and you change everything.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
So you think the ball may be here three.

Speaker 4 (05:11):
Feet up, but now it's two and a half feet
and put your hands are down here because you jumped
up in the air, and so now it throws off
the timing. And so I always said my mentor, we
used to catch the ball all the time, and he said, no,
don't jump to catch the ball.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
Just catch it. Just catch the ball.

Speaker 4 (05:27):
Only time you need to jump is when you have
to jump get a gold sky.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
You got to die for the ball.

Speaker 4 (05:33):
But when you don't have to jump, don't jump because
it's gonna change your levels and you're probably not not
gonna catch the ball. And that's why I think Jack
dropped the ball.

Speaker 5 (05:41):
Yeah, and when you're not used to catching, you're changing
your eye level. Now absolutely just it said, when you're
used to doing it's one thing, but when you're not
used to doing it, it's just it's a completely different animal.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
Yeah. And plus he might have been looking at the
end zone. So I'm about to score, baby, I'm about
to score. Yeah, you're about to score.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
Jack.

Speaker 5 (05:57):
His eyes were like the size of a giant, you know,
that's why.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
But I mean, all around, this is one of those
games you go back and look at and you talk
about winning all three phases of the game. I mean,
we talked about what the defense did today, that the
fact that Greenbay only scores one time as far as
the touchdown goes, Yes, they missed one field goal. But
at the same time, like I said, they didn't pump
the ball at all, and you held them to thirteen points.

(06:21):
I'm stunned to opportunitly look at this and find out
that green Bay wins the time of possession of the
game by twenty seconds because I felt like the Panthers
offensively controlled the clock in this game. Well they did early.

Speaker 5 (06:37):
They did early, and they remember that eight minute drive
end no points.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
Yeah they did.

Speaker 4 (06:42):
And also you know, the Panthers missed some opportunities to
as well. And then other thing we hadn't talked about
the penalties. The penalties for both teams really through. For
the Packers, they had like maybe nine seven to nine penalties.
We have to look at the stats, but they had
a lot of penalties that derailed their chances, and then
we have penalties that derailed our chances, and so they

(07:04):
kind of even themselves out. But what happens when you
have penalties and what happens when you don't score and
you're in the red zone opportunity, Boy, you it does
something to you. It's like, man, we missed that opportunity.
It's not like you can just get it back. It's
not like you could just magically just go down there
and just get it back. You got to go ahead
and put back into work to go ahead and recreate

(07:26):
it to get back that opportunity. And when those opportunities
are gone, those are miss deals. They're missed opportunities for
a reason. And so for the penalties and the miss opportunities,
I gotta get our defense a lot of credit because
they showed up and they created a lot of that.

Speaker 5 (07:43):
And here's a trend that I think is very interesting. Right,
the last two, well the only two road wins, Right,
the last two road wins both were defensive struggles, and
you made big plays late to win the game to
because defense travels, does good defense travels, And so you know,
when you look at the upcoming schedule, New Orleans obviously
is next. You got them twice, but you still have

(08:05):
some big teams ahead of You got Tampa Bay, you
got Seattle, San Francisco, Atlanta on the road, which tends
to be a tough place for the Panthers.

Speaker 4 (08:12):
You know, we talked to coach Canalis and we were
talking about on Panther Talk, and I asked him the
question about do you even like even watch the film,
do you even do this? He said, Now, we kind
of move on quickly to this because you kind of
know what you've done, and you know that the defense
that played against Buffalo was uncharacteristic. It wasn't the same guys,
and so I don't want to beat a dead horse,
and I don't want to I want to go ahead

(08:33):
and and psychologically kind of move on. And I think
they did that. They moved on, and I think they
even they even stepped it up a little bit more
because we saw a much much more ferocious defense. And
those guys that embarrassment that they had about getting you know,
getting beat like by Buffalo, how they beat them. Uh,
they was making sure that that the Packers were not

(08:54):
going to do that at all. And the way Wharton
is played, the way Derek Brown played, the way Rosebud played,
the way Wallace played them, dudes was coming up there
trying to go ahead.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
And eat well.

Speaker 5 (09:05):
And I think each made a good point too. You know,
when this team's had their back against the walls or
had those type of games like the New England game,
you know, and like the Bills game, they've they've responded
in both those circumstances. So this team they tried. You know,
the defense can travel all they uh, you know, they
play well in spurts, but they're also making big plays

(09:25):
in the big game. So yeah, they're gonna have their struggles,
but the bounce back ability and then to win close games,
which is something we haven't seen this team do a
lot in the last couple of years.

Speaker 4 (09:34):
You didn't have to ask the offense to go ahead
and and and win the game. You didn't have to ask.
This was about your defense, and how well your defense
really play, I mean collectively is about everybody. But how
well they played to go ahead and keep those points
off the board to keep the Packers off schedule, and
they kept them off schedule.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
Well, we're going to talk a lot about the great
the game winning to feel good by Ryan Fitzgerald, the
forty nine yarder that he hit. But I tell you,
let's keep in Miowa Rico did today and that makeshift
offensive line one hundred and thirty yards rushing for Rico
Dawdle today and two of these.

Speaker 6 (10:11):
Fall on the one yard line after the penalty. Guess
who's back into the game. Rico Dawdle, First and goal.
Daddell's got one touchdown already, young under center. Here's the
snap they give to Downdle up the middle and into
the end zone.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
Touchdown Carolina, and that's our What a burger, What a
moment of the game. Grilling delicious food for seventy five years.
What a burger, just like you like it? All right,
we got a lot coming your way here on the
Panthers postgame Show. We'll hear from the head coach and
a player as well. We'll also get the final thoughts
from the guys in Green Bay. So stay with us

(10:45):
on the Carolina Panthers Radio Network. Hey, welcome back to
the Panthers postgame Show. Panthers win it on a walk
off field goal of forty nine yard sixteen to thirteen.
Now five and four on the year, and Mike Pachico
has done the homework and found out the last time

(11:06):
the Panthers were over five hundred this late in the season.

Speaker 5 (11:09):
Yeah, twenty nineteen, the team was five and three the
year before that six and two.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (11:14):
Trending well, yes, but but doing things the way that
particularly the Ron Rivera teams and even the John Fox
teams when they were successful, this team is starting to
do the same things. Run the ball, control the line
of scrimmage on both sides, and opportunistic defenses and special teams.

Speaker 4 (11:29):
We've said this all along that we thought that offensively,
what an embreded butter of this team was the ability
to run the ball. With the advent of ric O'Donnell,
the crux of this team is the fact that they
could run the ball. Well, it doesn't even matter too
when you look at it, because we had so many
guys get hurt and shuffle in and out yep from

(11:50):
you know, Corbett Lewis, we had Hunt, we had Moten.
This has been a mixing hodgepodge of stuff. And they're
still putting up numbers. Do they still putting up numbers?
That tells you about how well they are coach, And
let's tell you how well that the offense is and
how well they believe what coach Canalis is doing. Because
don't forget that was a loaded box. Today we saw

(12:14):
by the Packers. They had a whole bunch of people
on the line of scrimmage trying to stop the run
and guess what they couldn't.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
Well think about this. The offensive line today was a
hodgepodge guys that were banged up. People moved around, and
then during the game, Chandler Zavalla goes out with those
jured elbow and that's the one injury we know about,
which is our injury update brought to you by Atrium
Hill and doing more to keep you moving, achieving, striving

(12:41):
at every age and stage so you can lift fully.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
You like that.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
So I mean, but that's again, that's how banged up
they were. I mean, Green Bay people are gonna go yeah,
but he lost all his receivers during the course of
the game, and the tight ends got to hurt. Hey,
that's the NFL. Yes, people get hurt and it's overcoming.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
As there's no doubt about that. And I think also
what we need to talk about maybe the decision that
coach Canal has made on the very first coin toss,
which is to keep the ball. Because keeping the ball
and then you get a chance to select which way
you want to kick the ball. Right, you get to

(13:21):
which yeah. So we got the office and we got
the ball. We were kicking and and kicking with the
win at the end of the game, as opposed to
kick it into the win.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
So if you kick, if you receive first, I thought.

Speaker 4 (13:37):
No, yeah, because and then it ends up switching because
you don't get it. You get it first, they got it,
and then you switch it at this at the half.

Speaker 2 (13:47):
But doesn't the team that doesn't if you say we
want to receive, that, doesn't green Bay get to pick
the end of the end they would have defended first.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
Yeah, they do, but we No. No, I'm it up.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
I think you might think.

Speaker 3 (14:01):
I think I think I'm missing out. Yeah, I think
I'm messing it up. Don't listen to me. I am
messing this up.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
That's all right. I ask you what you got here
when Green Bay got rid of the blue uniforms as
a former green Bay packer, and you didn't know the answer?

Speaker 3 (14:12):
I didn't know answer.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
The answer, by the way, is nineteen fifty nine. Really,
Vince Lobardi made green and gold their official colors in
nineteen fifty nine.

Speaker 4 (14:19):
Well you made a great decision, uh, because I wasn't
a fan of those colors today, but as I get it.

Speaker 3 (14:27):
Those that's that's the old cool.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
All right. So we're gonna have a driver of the
leg brought to you by the Hanted Dealers of the Carolina.
So Mike Pachico is gonna be at the pilot's license
at the pilots whatever. That my car, so we're driving there.

Speaker 5 (14:42):
I'll take the controls, thank you very much. A couple
of citing finishes. Cincinnati has just scored a touchdown, so
they and the Bears, Cincinnati Bears are tied with fifty
four seconds to go since they still has to kick
the pat So that game going down to the wire,
as did we just saw the final between the I'm

(15:03):
getting lost in my thoughts at Denver and Houston. Well,
Let's had a thirty four yard field goal two seconds
remaining in the game. So Denver on the road wins
that game.

Speaker 4 (15:10):
C J.

Speaker 5 (15:11):
Stroud had left with concussion, like oh did hey? Yeah yeah,
So Melso finished up the game there he went seventeen
of thirty one hundred and thirty seven yards bo next
two touchdowns and interception for the Denver Broncos. JJ McCarthy
back on the field for Minnesota. They go on the
road beat Detroit twenty seven to twenty four. A lot

(15:31):
of crazy games.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
Yeah, I didn't think that. I didn't think that they
would beat Detroit seven twenty four.

Speaker 5 (15:37):
Maybe the people in Minnesota, yeah Detroit.

Speaker 4 (15:39):
Yeah, and Detroit scored last like tow was in and
make put it twenty four.

Speaker 3 (15:43):
And so that's a big win for Minnesota.

Speaker 5 (15:45):
Vikings, Atlanta misses a pat and New England holds on
twenty four to twenty three the final at Chollette Stadium.
Drake May another game. I think this is now what
is ninth game with over two hundred ards passing nineteen
of twenty nine, two and fifty nine yards in the air,
two touchdowns and he did have one interception in the game.
So New England now seven and two, and who would

(16:06):
have thought that. People weren't really expecting that, and Drake
May maybe in the MVP.

Speaker 4 (16:11):
And people weren't expecting Drake May to be as good
as he is, and he's he's proven everybody wrong that
he's that guy.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
Yeah, they are starting I did. I heard I heard
the same thing that. Yeah, people are starting to say
Drake Bay MVP plan.

Speaker 3 (16:23):
Good for him.

Speaker 5 (16:23):
Yeah, speaking of former New England Patriots, quarterbacks. Mac Jones
leaves San Francisco in New York over the Giants thirty
four twenty four. Mac Jones was nineteen of twenty twenty four,
two hundred and thirty five yards, two touchdowns. No, he's
not in the conversation for MVP. No, No, But he
has done any shop filling in there for.

Speaker 3 (16:43):
That, I know.

Speaker 4 (16:43):
But he's been filling it for rock party and there's
been just you know, some some little like you know,
flowers about that.

Speaker 3 (16:51):
Do you keep them in controversy? I know? Do you
keep them rocking the way he's been.

Speaker 5 (16:55):
Playing, almost like Brady and Drew Bledsoe way back in
the day exactly.

Speaker 4 (17:00):
I'm like, look, mac Joseh found a home over there,
and so he's looking to you surper position if you can.

Speaker 3 (17:05):
Everybody wants to goetting. Start now.

Speaker 5 (17:07):
Pittsburgh now five and three. They beat Indianapolis twenty seven
to twenty Rodgers.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
Wow the Coats.

Speaker 5 (17:12):
They beat the Colts at home. One touchdown through the
air for Aaron Rodgers. Chargers beat the Titans twenty seven
to twenty. Justin Herbert two touchdowns in the air. He
had one touchdown on the ground. He was the leading
rusher for the Chargers nine carries fifty seven yards.

Speaker 4 (17:27):
All that tells me is when you reading scores, is
all it tells me. There's so much parody in the league.
There is at any given Sunday, somebody's gonna beat you.
Somebody could go ahead and beat you at at home.
Will you think that you got the home field advantage, Well,
guess what, you don't. And it's gonna be really precarious
as we get towards that. You know, the playoffs. I'm
gonna tell you right now, do not count the Panthers out.

(17:49):
Do not count the Carolina Panthers out. I'm telling this
is the crazy league. And right now everybody's like really
on board and and and peer and then there's no
really elite. We thought that Buffalo may be elite. Yeah,
I think of just a little bit. But there's nobody
that's a really elite.

Speaker 5 (18:08):
Our next opponent for the Carolina Panthers the New Orleans Saints.
They're in Los Angeles this week in the taking on
the Rams Rams. Right now, seven nothing, three fifty six
to go in the first quarter. There Las Vegas at home,
no score with Jacksonville. You mentioned Buffalo, Eugene no score.
That game just underway at home against Kansas City Washington
has Seattle. That'll be the Monday night or the Sunday

(18:30):
game tonight. And then Arizona. We talked about this earlier,
maybe it was in the break, but Arizona is at
Dallas tonight and that'll be the Monday night football game
this week. There you have the on the score by
I turned the steering wall back to you, Bret.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
Okay, thank you very much. I'll drive on the right side, then.

Speaker 5 (18:46):
Well you can.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
I have another on the British side. The British didn'
be to the British side, all right, Harlan still ahead.
We have highlights from today's ball game. Also, we'll here
from the head coach, and we'll hear from the guys
in Green Bay well and get their final thoughts of
the game as well. So stay with us on our
postgame show.

Speaker 1 (19:05):
He's called Panthers Postgame Show Live from Bank of America Stadio.

Speaker 6 (19:10):
So to read give straight up the Middle, Touchdown, Touchdown.

Speaker 1 (19:14):
Carolina, reaction and analysis to today's game with special guests,
highlights and updates from around the league.

Speaker 7 (19:22):
Complete touchdown, right side makes to catch, touchdown.

Speaker 1 (19:26):
Father No to Bret mcmiller with the Panthers postgame show,
exclusively on the Carolina Panthers Radio Network.

Speaker 2 (19:44):
And welcome back to the Panthers' postgame show. Pathers winning
at Green Bay sixteen to thirteen. Uh, you know, this
is the most I'm not gonna say there was unexpected
win in green that Panthers haven't had a lot of
success in green But this goes back to the Steve
Berline quarterback draw.

Speaker 8 (20:07):
Okay, there you go.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
That was that was pretty unexpected too.

Speaker 3 (20:11):
That's right, the right he did rerun a quarterback draw.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
You remember that?

Speaker 3 (20:16):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you were you were there, I was, yeah.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
And I've heard Steve Berline tell the story of that
when he went over the sideline and Seefer told him,
we're going to run this quarterback draw and he, okay,
start laughing, goes it's the last thing that because he's
the last thing exactly, And he went into the huddle
and said we're gonna run a quarterback draw, and all
the guys in the huddle started laughing at him.

Speaker 3 (20:36):
Because it's the last thing.

Speaker 4 (20:38):
When you don't expect guys who don't run the ball
to run the ball, that's a big thing.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
Yeah, and then he said and then like all the
guys the hunter laughing at him, and like Wesu Walls
looked at him and said, you'll cut.

Speaker 3 (20:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (20:49):
Just I'll be there for you, man, I'll be out there.

Speaker 3 (20:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (20:54):
And typically, when you get a quarterback draw, what are
you gonna do. You're gonna go ahead and get like
a empty backfield, well some type of spread formation to
make it look like it's going to be a pass,
and then the quarterback gets that ball, takes a step back,
hesitates his's it because everybody vacasing gets their position to
cover receivers in crossing routes and all that other crap.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
So, yeah, Steve Berline was not the guy who usually
ran the quarterback draw. He did that day the Panthers win,
and it was much more conventional today. This is how
the Panthers won it today.

Speaker 8 (21:24):
Eric lambeau from forty nine for the win.

Speaker 6 (21:27):
Chanson the snap, Martin the whole, Fitzgerald drives the leg,
the kick is up.

Speaker 8 (21:31):
It is good.

Speaker 7 (21:34):
Ryan Fitzgerald delivers and Carolina silences lambeau Field.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
And so let's go back to Green Bay where Gemination
Luk have caught up with the man who made the.

Speaker 9 (21:48):
Kick, and a lot of stars in this game, but
the final one was the rookie Ryan Fitzgerald would be
walk off forty nine yard Fieldville joins us now to
talk about that and the game here and take us.

Speaker 8 (22:00):
Through it a lot going into it.

Speaker 9 (22:02):
You had to wait through a time out, obviously, tough
conditions with these swirling wins.

Speaker 3 (22:06):
Give us the setup and how it felt to make
that kick.

Speaker 8 (22:09):
Yeah, it felt great.

Speaker 10 (22:10):
Just going back to pregame, you know, Tracy Smith or coordinator,
you know, receiving the kickoff so we can choose which
way we want to go in the fourth quarter. And
I had my winning my back for the game winner,
so that WASPS. Props to them for putting me in
a great situation. Obviously, the offense driving the ball right
down the field and giving me a kick inside of fifty.
I mean, you can't ask for much more.

Speaker 6 (22:31):
Ryan and his here. First off, what a moment. Congratulations
you're a rookie in the NFL. You've had two game
winning kicks. But can you just describe what that was
like to do it at Lambeau against the best team
in the NFC.

Speaker 10 (22:46):
Uh, maybe maybe tomorrow I can describe it. It's still
too soon. I'm still processing it. But it's such a
cool moment. My parents flew up here and they wanted
to see a cool place for me to play. And
what a better you know, what a great.

Speaker 11 (23:03):
Ending, Ryan Luke here, I saw you before that last drive.
You walked out on the field in the TV timeout
and you were standing about on the thirty thirty five
yard line kind of talk about what you were doing there.

Speaker 8 (23:14):
Was that a visualization process? Yeah?

Speaker 10 (23:16):
Yeah, that and mostly just checking the win. You know,
right before the kick it kind of switched to more
of a right to left at my back, So just
checking the win conditions because it was swirling out there today,
and the visualization aspect of it as well.

Speaker 9 (23:29):
So at college of course, Ryan, you hear that phrase
signature win. So here's a professional signature win at Lambo,
probably the toughest place to.

Speaker 8 (23:37):
Play this year in the NFL.

Speaker 9 (23:38):
What does it do for the confidence of this entire
team moving forward?

Speaker 10 (23:41):
Yeah, I mean it's just another chip to stack and
we're ready to go right back to work and keep
getting better. You know, that's our theme is just keep
getting better and see how good we can become.

Speaker 11 (23:52):
Well, Ryan, you need to go enjoy that locker room
for at least a little bit before you guys get
back to work, because that's probably a fun environment in
there right now.

Speaker 5 (23:59):
Yes, it is a right thank you, Ryan, all right,
thank you' all.

Speaker 9 (24:01):
Ryan Fitzgerald to walk off fourteen nine yard field goal
from a Florida State Seminal Panthers winning at green Bay
sixteen to thirteen if he sent it back to Charlotte.

Speaker 2 (24:10):
Well, okay, Geene, apparently you were right. Okay, I think
I am, even though Michael Chico is Michael Chico is
currently pouring through the NFL rule book.

Speaker 5 (24:16):
Well, no, because I seem to remember I've seen times
where a team has won the toss and still choose
the which I was trying to figure out the official win.
So I'm still tracking that down, all right, Yeah, I
forget it. No, not to, not to. I just wanted
to confirm what we're saying.

Speaker 2 (24:34):
Yeah, yeah, because it would seemed to be, what if
you choose to receive the what does green Bay get
to do?

Speaker 3 (24:41):
So who won the toss?

Speaker 2 (24:42):
The Panthers won the toss and chose to get the
ball exactly. But there's then he was saying that that
also gave the Panthers the right to choose.

Speaker 3 (24:53):
And what's the end of the want to kick the ball?

Speaker 5 (24:58):
Yeah, well it says here. Unless the winner of the
points defers his choice to the second half, he must
choose one of two privileges, and the loser is then
given the other. The true privileges are the opportunity to
receive the kickoff or to kick off, or the choice
of goal his team will defend.

Speaker 2 (25:15):
So that would disagree with what right?

Speaker 5 (25:18):
Then there's for the second half, the captain who lost
the pregame toss is to have the first choice of
the two privileges listed in a ARB. So, in other words,
to Eugene's point, if you take, if you then take
the ball to start the second half, then it reverts back.

Speaker 4 (25:34):
Then it reverts back to the wistlium and then you
get to defend that way.

Speaker 3 (25:38):
So you get to choose the case.

Speaker 5 (25:40):
But I think that's what confuses most people is that
the loser that whoever loses the coin flip, then has
to make that choice for the second half.

Speaker 3 (25:47):
Exactly there you go.

Speaker 2 (25:49):
So the team, so the team that won the addition
gun toss.

Speaker 3 (25:54):
So when the team came when they took the ball out.

Speaker 5 (25:57):
Everybody forgets the second piece of this. The first piece
is you win the first half, but then you have
to then like theoretically you could say, no, we want
to defend this goal in the second half, and you
theoretically can have the ball first in both halves.

Speaker 3 (26:08):
Exactly. Okay, it's not so there you go.

Speaker 2 (26:12):
Green We got everybody, we got We got our guys
over here laughing, they got my stun faces.

Speaker 3 (26:18):
What are you talking about?

Speaker 2 (26:20):
One just laughing because there's smoke coming out from the
side of the smoke coming off. So so the point
being that when Green Bay came out in the second
half and said we wanted to receive the ball, then
the Panthers got to choose which whether or not which
end they wanted to defend.

Speaker 3 (26:37):
Got it, okay, So now we cleared it all up
for us.

Speaker 2 (26:42):
Everybody else might have understood it, but we got it.

Speaker 3 (26:44):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (26:45):
All right, still ahead, we'll hear from the head coach.
Will also go to the whole segment additional islands today's
ball game. Just stay with us on the Panthers Radio network.
There you go, Hey, welcome back to the Pants postgame
show celebrating a five and four record after a shocking

(27:08):
win ed Green Bay sixteen to thirteen, two Rico Daddle
touchdowns and a Ryan Fitzgerald forty nine yard field goal
as time expired. The head coach shocking the three of
us by not trying to get closer there when he
had the opportunity, letting the clock run down to one second.

Speaker 3 (27:27):
Don't listen to me, coach, don't listen to me, you know,
not at all.

Speaker 2 (27:32):
The three Well, at least I was going get closer,
get closer.

Speaker 5 (27:36):
But you know what, but the piece of information that
we did not have, which was being in the stadium.

Speaker 3 (27:40):
That's true.

Speaker 5 (27:41):
So they had right because I think conventional wisdom would
be maybe if it was windy or and more of
a more of a concern, yeah you might want to
you press it, Yeah, you press it. But I think
they were confident in the kicker.

Speaker 4 (27:53):
And you heard he already said that he was like
looking and testing one to see if the one was
as back the win doing at the thirty five yard
line when he's on the sideline, so he's doing he's
doing his homework and like this, Okay, he's feel comfortable
this twenty.

Speaker 3 (28:06):
Nine yeard, I got it.

Speaker 2 (28:08):
Let's hear what the coach I had to say is
he talks to Jim Aniche and loop.

Speaker 9 (28:12):
All right, guys, thanks, welcome back to lambeau Field. We're
joined by head coach Dave Canalis right now. And coach
I know how coaches are. They treat him all the same,
they all count the same. But there is a phrase
signature win and at lambeau Field against Green Bay. This
is a big one today and it wasn't perfect all
the way through and you still had enough to win
the game. What were your thoughts when you, guys finally

(28:32):
got that last kick to go through.

Speaker 12 (28:33):
I just kept thinking about with the group, every game
is a championship opportunity, and especially when you come here
to this place with the fans, with an excellent team,
it was going to require the best of our football.
And yes, there are things that we need to improve upon.
You know, we we certainly you know, gave up some
opportunities in some spots. But to continue to play football,

(28:53):
that's the way it should be done, is you just
keep coming out with toughness, keep finding the run game,
the balance of the pass defensively one for five in
the red zone unbelievable to give us a chance to
be in that game and walk off with a kick.

Speaker 6 (29:08):
Dave and aish your congratulations. Just a great team win.
The offensive line with all the moving pieces, all the injuries,
to play the way that they did. What's your snapshot
impression of just how those guys battled.

Speaker 12 (29:23):
Unbelievable. Really, you know, get to talk about Josh Niman
and Jake Kerhen stepping in there with the guys, guys
that we trust, guys that we count on. It's great process,
it's great training, But for those guys to work together,
you know, it speaks to the leadership of the group.
You know, Corbett standing in for Kaid, I mean the
whole thing. Damian Lewis goes down early, comes back out

(29:44):
there and finishes the game with us, you know, and
give us an opportunity to stay balanced with what we
were doing with the run game in the past game.

Speaker 6 (29:52):
Coach one more, Ryan Fitzgerald, he missed the extra point
going one way and then nails the kick at the
end the other way. Just the win factor and the
way the field shifted. How much of that was kind
of set up by what you did on the coin toss.

Speaker 12 (30:09):
Absolutely, this was I got. I can give Tracy Smith
a little shout out. You know, our our mo is
to just kick the ball and start on defense. That's
that's the way we like to play it. But you know,
Tracy said, if we take the ball, you know, we
got a chance to end the game with the wind
to our backs. And it played out exactly like he
talked about. And so we made that decision and it
worked out for us, you know, counting on Ryan to

(30:30):
make those kicks, you know, the extra point right there,
you know, after the penalty, we could have you know,
tried a two point conversion from the seventeen yard line
or something like that, and I just didn't want to
feel like we were disorganized. This give him a shot,
and really the wind wasn't going for a second, and
all of a sudden it kicks right back in, you know,
right around the kick, and so the timing of it,
but for him to be able to regroup, refocus and

(30:52):
just go to the next kick was amazing.

Speaker 11 (30:54):
Coach Luke here, congrats on a great win and just
talk about the week of preparation. You guys were able
to get back to work on Monday after a game
against Buffalo. They didn't go our way and come out
and play great today.

Speaker 12 (31:05):
Yeah, the challenge for the group was let's get back
to our ball and these are the things that we
have to capture as a group, is this is how
we play. We take care of the ball. I know
we had that first interception, you know, down there in
the red zone. Win was a factor on that one.
But to be able to secure the ball in the
run game, guys taking care of it and on defense
to come up with two big turnovers was a really

(31:25):
big deal for us. And that's the type of ball
that we have to play, Luke. We have to be
able to just capture a style and say this is
who we are so that we can be the consistent
team that I believe we can.

Speaker 9 (31:34):
Awesome fun to watch, big Weed. Coach Dave Canallis, thank
you for your time. All right, thanks guys, Coach Dave Canalis.
There as the Panthers walk it off literally sixteen to
thirteen on a forty nine yard field, go by Ryan Fitzgerald.
We said it back to Charlotte now with Brett, Mike
and Eugene.

Speaker 2 (31:48):
Well there you go. I mean he talks about it
and yeah, hey, you know a lot of times we're
all armchair coaches, and we sit here and there was
an opportunity. Mike and I talked about it at the time,
eight minutes to go on a you know, Panthers had
a second and seventeen and I felt like they should have,
you know, taking a bigger shot that they did. Instead,

(32:10):
they had a down run play that picked up a
couple of yards. I thought, you know, at this point,
I said, come on, guys, you're you're playing not to
lose right now. You're playing you know, you're trying to
run the clock. And I felt like, but you know,
it comes down and he had an all too confidence and.

Speaker 4 (32:24):
Also he's playing to win, he's playing for the field
goal and so and that, and his threshold was to
get to like forty nine fifty yards looks like, sounds like.
And if he got that point, he was safe with
that point because he believed in this kicker. And once
again you heard him talk about having the win, having
to win, and having the special teams go say, hey,
we have a chance to have the win if we

(32:46):
take the ball. So, I mean, that's just good coaching
because those are things that kind of go over your
head a little bit. You don't think about that, but
obviously the special teams coach did and it played out
that way, and what a great, great call.

Speaker 3 (33:02):
He needs to get his flawless for that. That's a
great call, all right.

Speaker 2 (33:06):

Speaker 1 (33:29):
Back to the Panthers postgame show live from Bank of
America Stadium, exclusively on the Carolina Panthers Radio Network.

Speaker 2 (33:40):
Oh walk off fields all the differences the Panthers win
at sixteen thirteen in Green Bay. Welcome back to the
Back of America Stadium, long with the Gene Robinson, Mike Pachico,
and Brett mcfill and glad to have you with us
as we're celebrating the Panthers going five and four, first
time above five hundred this late in the season since
twenty nineteen, when the Panthers were five and three at

(34:01):
this point in November. Let's go through some of the
highlights of today's ball game. Panthers got the ball first,
but didn't have a lot of success.

Speaker 3 (34:09):
Put it and away.

Speaker 2 (34:10):
Green Bay driving got to the sixteen yard line, but
the defense rose up.

Speaker 8 (34:16):
Saveing On Williams.

Speaker 6 (34:17):
Motions behind Romeo Dobbs and a two receiver stack quick
screen to Williams runs into his own man tries to
pinball out of trouble, but J. C. Horn wraps him
up right. Yes, scene yard line. Listenick Scott's coming away
with the Ballick Scott came up with the ball. The
Panthers half possession. They gave it to Carolina.

Speaker 2 (34:37):
Okay, I shouldn't have said rose up.

Speaker 3 (34:38):
You know.

Speaker 2 (34:38):
The Falcons have this big rise up thing. Yes, drives
my son crazy. He's what of the direction?

Speaker 8 (34:43):
Do you rise?

Speaker 3 (34:44):
You're right?

Speaker 2 (34:46):
I should not have said that, all right, So the
Panthers stopped him there. I actually drove down the field,
got to the fourteen yard line, but then Bryce shunk
through an interception. So both teams early on had turnovers
in the end zone, but the defense stood up again.
Great play by mister Wharton.

Speaker 6 (35:07):
Second down on eleven. Love the staff pot ups, he's
hit and he is sacked. Turk Wharton putting a stamp
on this defensive series for Carolina.

Speaker 8 (35:18):
That's third and nineteen and.

Speaker 2 (35:20):
The Green Bay had to settle it for a field goal.
Panthers then got the ball back and went on a
great drive. Ten plays, seventy six yards five thirty one
and it finished it this way, a.

Speaker 6 (35:34):
Three tight end look, two to the left, one to
the right, remain in motion down of the long setback,
tossed it down up the middle.

Speaker 8 (35:41):
He's got the five.

Speaker 6 (35:42):
Pushing forward, corkscrews into the end zone for a touchdown.
Rico Downell gives the Panthers a six to three lead.

Speaker 2 (35:52):
Alight, so that made it seven to three at the half.
It was seven to six. Green Bay got the ball first,
but missed a field goal the quarter. Next time they
had the ball, they were driving again, but then mister
Love tried to go deep.

Speaker 8 (36:12):
Play action pass.

Speaker 6 (36:13):
Love takes a shot deep downfield into triple coverage.

Speaker 8 (36:17):
That's intercept it by Merrit.

Speaker 6 (36:18):
He gets up with the twenty seven, has the thirty
near side forty stiff mark forty five across midfield and
out of bounds.

Speaker 8 (36:27):
Across the green Bay forty yard line.

Speaker 2 (36:30):
All right, that gave the Panthers a ball back, and
they took advantage of it.

Speaker 3 (36:34):
Starting at to thirty eight.

Speaker 2 (36:35):
They go on a four minute, fifteen second drive and
this is not finished.

Speaker 6 (36:41):
Ball on the one yard line after the penalty. Guess
who's back into the game. Rico Dowdell, First and goal.
Daddell's got one touchdown already, Young under center. Here's the
snap to give to Dowdle up the middle and into
the end zone.

Speaker 2 (36:55):
Touchdown Carolina, But a celebration penalty, which no one of
us can quite figure.

Speaker 3 (37:01):
I still can't figure that one out. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (37:02):
At the Rico Dawdle had pushed the extra point back
and with a heavy wind, missed the extra points. That
makes it thirteen to six. Green Bay drives down gets
it inside the ten, but Mary again another big play
on a five yard loss, took it to fourth and
eight at the thirteen. And this is the defense that

(37:23):
the Panthers came up with.

Speaker 6 (37:26):
From the thirteen. Loving the gun, Wilson the running back.
Here's the snap, four man rush, Derek Brown applying pressure,
Love rolling to his right he's back at the thirty.
He's in trouble, still dancing, still dancing.

Speaker 8 (37:38):
Guy's up field. He's at the twenty now now throws it.

Speaker 6 (37:41):
Two at the end, So that's gonna be pilled shopped
by Mike Jackson.

Speaker 4 (37:46):
He jumped, Yeah, Dudeys says where his hands were at
and involved, and he probably I'd been looking down as.

Speaker 3 (37:53):
I'm gonna score test.

Speaker 2 (37:54):
Yeah, he might have.

Speaker 3 (37:55):
Do you know what he is? They stopped. The driver
was fullth down, turnover, one down. That's all we know.
Good play.

Speaker 2 (38:01):
He still completely your mission. Yes you did, Yeah, you
did make this stuff all right. Green Bay have ends
up scoring with two thirty two to go to tie
the game at thirteen. Panthers went on a quick little
drive over that last two thirty two, got a couple
of great runs from ric O'Donnell. A nineteen yard er
got him to the thirty one yard line, and once

(38:22):
they got there they were happy let the clock run
down to one second, setting up Ryan Fitzgerald.

Speaker 8 (38:28):
They were at Lambeau from forty nine for the win chance.

Speaker 6 (38:31):
In the snap Martin the whole Fitzgerald drives the leg,
the kick is up.

Speaker 8 (38:36):
It is good.

Speaker 7 (38:39):
Ryan Fitzgerald delivers and Carolina silences lambeau Field.

Speaker 2 (38:46):
Nothing like a walk off win.

Speaker 5 (38:48):
Is the guys feeling got the answer?

Speaker 4 (38:51):
Yeah, we've watched we're watching Facebook a little bit, and
we're trying to figure out what was the infraction on
on ric Odondo. Oh and apparently he was in the
with the guys and and he gave two pumps.

Speaker 5 (39:03):
Okay, if you remember the key appeal, yeah.

Speaker 2 (39:07):
He told us, he told somebody they were number one. No,
it was more of a dance move. Okay, k think
Elvis press. Okay, all right, you go, okay, don't lie. Really,
come on, we're gonna you're gonna penalize that.

Speaker 3 (39:24):
For two pumps.

Speaker 4 (39:25):
If you gotta one and a half, it'd been all right, second,
one second, certain distance you can go.

Speaker 2 (39:37):
We're not talking about it. We're not talking about We're
not talking about a pump of chocolate syrup on that,
all right. This Panthers season to stay ice cold was
Zippy Ice based right here in Charlotte. There the ice
provider at Bag of America Stadium, keeping your drinks and
the Panthers cool all game log. Zippy Ice keeping Carolina
cool one game at a time. Right when we come back,

(40:01):
we won't have the stats from the day's ball game.
You're listened to the Carolina Panthers Radio Network. Welcome back
to the Panthers post game show along with the Eugene Robinson,
Mike Pachico, Brett mcmill. Glad to have you with us.
As the Panthers celebrating their fifth win of the season
and they're a fourth win in the last five games.

Speaker 5 (40:22):
There you go, huge winning record and no record.

Speaker 3 (40:25):
That with the how many games did we win last year?

Speaker 2 (40:28):
Little five?

Speaker 3 (40:29):
Yeah, well, guess what we already surpassed that.

Speaker 2 (40:31):
Well, I mean, tough schedule, eyes ahead, but still this
is but it's the schedule though.

Speaker 5 (40:36):
Yeah, well, if you play well down the stretch, that
that sets you up for a good a good being,
good playoffs, at least potentially to play well in the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (40:45):
Well, how many people were sitting there after the Jets
game saying, yeah, well, you got Buffalo and Green Bay.

Speaker 3 (40:50):
I mean it's you know, you.

Speaker 2 (40:51):
Hope to get those through those two and then yea,
then New Orleans comes to town.

Speaker 5 (40:55):
So you're four to six, you're gonna split Buffalo in
Green Bay. You would have taken that run.

Speaker 4 (41:01):
You're taking and running with absolutely, there's no doubt about it.
And now you're looking at you're excited because you like,
hold up, we can win how many more games?

Speaker 3 (41:11):
Maybe another five?

Speaker 2 (41:13):
Yeah, you start looking at the schedule and all of
sudden things open up because now you've proven that you
can you can hang with the best.

Speaker 5 (41:21):
But but New Orleans twice, Atlanta, San Francisco, the Rams,
Tampa Bay twice, Seattle, now Seattle, that's here, Yeah, right,
San Francisco is on the road. That's a Monday night game.
But but there's not like a no, it's not like
the Chiefs.

Speaker 4 (41:34):
No, no, this is not that schedule is not like
you was talking about these all world beats and no, no, no, no,
no no.

Speaker 2 (41:42):
I mean Green Bay had the best record of the
NFC at five one on one.

Speaker 4 (41:45):
It went to their place in one in lambeau Field
is a very difficult place to play. There's no doubt
about that. Coach Canalis took his team in there and
made a statement.

Speaker 2 (41:54):
Yeah, Atlanta has been the house of horrors, but Atlanta
has also been a jeckle and high team.

Speaker 4 (41:59):
Yeah, and typically well we win here, then they went
down there and typically we'll win here with Tampa and
Tampa went down there, and so we're looking at the schedule.
I mean, this is to get eight to nine wins.
It's not a stretch.

Speaker 5 (42:14):
Yeah, But also how big is this right? Because you've
been in the locker room, second year coach, he's been,
you know, speaking positivity, positivity, positivity, you know, constant, protective,
protected football. How much this winning game like this kind
of solidify in the player's minds that what the path
that this team is on is the right one.

Speaker 4 (42:32):
This is validation because in that locker room, they've been
saying to themselves, Man, we're a lot better than what
we played against Buffalo. We're a lot better atan what
we played against the Patriots. We're a lot better than
what we've played.

Speaker 3 (42:44):
Dude.

Speaker 4 (42:44):
If we play our game, we can hang with anyone. Well,
they believe that and they play in that way. And
here it is defensively, you got to win with a
very good defense. The defense has to be able to
keep points off the board, and your office has to
be able to score points with the other team. Tit
for Ted, They've got to be able to do that.
We're able to do that. And now having ric o'donald

(43:05):
as the guy, and he's your guy.

Speaker 3 (43:08):
You might have watched out. I'm just telling you it
happened Bryce back.

Speaker 4 (43:11):
We're not talking about how Bryce well he did because
with a bad bum ankle, he maneuvered in that pocket,
made some incredible runs to go ahead and keep drives
alive and and and looked like the brush up we thought.
I'm like, we did ask Bryce to do a lot,
but what he did, he did well.

Speaker 5 (43:26):
And to your point though, I mean, it's a win
on the road against it the only team you've beaten
this year with a winning record currently.

Speaker 2 (43:33):
Yeah, before we did the stats, let's go ahead and
pause ten seconds. First station identification of the Carolina Panthers
radio network. All right, checking the statsup today's ball game,
Bryce Young ends up eleven for twenty four one hundred
and two yards and one interception at fifth quarterback ratings.
You sure a joke, a joke we talked about three.

Speaker 3 (43:54):
Because it doesn't.

Speaker 4 (43:55):
That does not demonstrate or it even tells the story
how well Bryce.

Speaker 3 (44:00):
It does not one bit.

Speaker 2 (44:01):
Mayan well Love goes twenty six of thirty seven for
two hundred and seventy three yards and one interception, and
he gets an eighty point one. Okay, yippie we go.
Dawdle twenty five carries one hundred and thirty yards, two touchdowns,
Chuba Hubbard five carries seventeen yards, Bryce Young two carries
for nine yards, and Horn Junior had one carrier for

(44:25):
seven yards. Ted McMillan had four carries for forty six yards.
Xavierly Get one catch for twenty two Dowdell had two
catches for eleven yards, and nobody else had more than
one catch.

Speaker 3 (44:39):
During the course of the game.

Speaker 2 (44:41):
There was one sack by the Panthers and that sack
was made by Turk Wharton yep for green Bay. Oh,
there was one interception that was by It was a
consequential sack too, because then they end up missing the uflgo.

Speaker 3 (44:56):
Yeah yeah right, yep. That helped take him.

Speaker 2 (44:58):
Yeah, that and some penal has helped take come out
of a field goal range. And Tredyon Merrig had the
interception today for the Panthers Green Bay. You know Josh
Jacobs eighty seven yards rushing for him today and you
know he had the one touchdown and beyond that, Dobbs

(45:22):
had seven catches for ninety one yards. He was really
the one that I think hurt the Panthers more than
anybody else, you know, and they did lose the tight
end that everybody's been raving about craft He went out
after getting two catches for twenty yards, and the Green
Bay did. They did suffer some losses in the receiver department.
But again, as we talked about earlier, it's the NFL.

(45:42):
You know, the Panthers were at Patchworck urfirsts of line
and lost one of their offensive line of during the game.

Speaker 4 (45:47):
So the other broadcasts, the Packers broadcast, they'll be talking
about the miss opportunities. They'll be talking about, Hey, you
know you got a miss field goal here, Hey you
got an interception, you should have had another interception. You
were in the red zone area of one for five,
one for five, you should have came up with some
more points. They're gonna be talking about that conversation as saying,

(46:09):
this is the reason why you lost the game. The
reason why they lost the game is that the defense
played extremely well and the office would be able to
go tip for tat and control the clock. They were
able to do that, and so from that standpoint, this
is much much more of a win for the Panthers
than it is that the Packers just lost the game

(46:31):
the way the way that the way the Panthers played
defensively against that office. Man, I mean, I'll take I'll
take this Panther defense and a heartbeat because they played well.

Speaker 5 (46:40):
Yeah, they went there, they went, they went and got it.

Speaker 3 (46:42):
They did they did.

Speaker 4 (46:44):
So you know, in the narrative that maybe the Packers
didn't play as well and play their best game is
because the Carolina Panthers has something to do with it.

Speaker 2 (46:53):
What do you got, Mike?

Speaker 3 (46:54):
All right?

Speaker 5 (46:54):
So the story in the stats. You know, obviously this
was a very close game. First sounds almost identical. Nineteen
for the Panthers, twenty for the Packers. Time of possession
it was about forty seconds different. I mean, so that
wasn't uh where the game really you see a little
bit of the separation is in the rushing numbers Panthers
one hundred and sixty three yards to one hundred and four,
and usually just mentioned the red zone number for them

(47:16):
one for five. Panthers were two for three, and those
two scores huge end up being big, right, two touchdowns
as opposed to I mean, both teams scored three times,
but two touchdowns is a lot better than two field goals.

Speaker 3 (47:27):
Absolutely, you can't win.

Speaker 4 (47:29):
You can't beat a team with phil goals because if
you get a testout, those two testdowns makes all the
world a difference.

Speaker 3 (47:36):
And don't forgot we missed.

Speaker 5 (47:37):
That if you want to play the game.

Speaker 3 (47:40):
So if you want to play, what if? What about?
What happened this and that?

Speaker 4 (47:43):
Well guess what, all right, if we don't get the
penalty on the double pump, there you go, double pump.

Speaker 3 (47:50):
We kicked the you know, we make the extra point
and had to go.

Speaker 5 (47:53):
For two, so that that's really where the game turned.
We always like to mention the third down numbers. Panthers
were four of ten, but they're also two for two
on fourth down. Very big was right, right, So you know,
if you put those two together, that's six for twelve.
But you know, you have to give credit to Green
Bay seven to thirteen fifty three percent. They were two

(48:15):
of three on fourthounds. Remember they had that turnover on downs.

Speaker 2 (48:18):
Huh good stuff, all right, our hardest working player of
the game today. Uh, well, we debated. Honorable mentioned goes
to Trevion marrig But the guy who gets it is
this guy.

Speaker 8 (48:32):
A three tight end.

Speaker 6 (48:32):
Look two to the left, one to the right, tremain
in motion down of the long setback, tossed it down
up the middle.

Speaker 8 (48:39):
He's got the five pushing forward.

Speaker 6 (48:41):
Cork screws into the end zone for a touchdown. Ricodownell
gives the Panthers US six to three lead.

Speaker 2 (48:50):
Our hardest working player of the game, Rico Dawdle one
hundred and thirty yards rushing and another eleven yards receiving,
presented by sun Belt Reynolds, the official rental equipment partner
of the Carolina Panthers. When don't we come back, we'll
get the final thoughts from Jim Anish.

Speaker 1 (49:04):
She loop back to Bret McMillan live from Bank of
America Citi with more of the Panthers postgame show exclusively
on the Carolina Panthers Radio Network.

Speaker 3 (49:18):
Hey, welcome back.

Speaker 2 (49:19):
It wasn't a frozen tunder and Green Bay, but more
of a Wizard of Oz type windy day. As the
Panthers survive and win sixteen thirteen on a walk off
field goal. Let's get the final thoughts from the guys
that survived that windy day in Green Bay from Jim Nishan.

Speaker 9 (49:37):
Luke final thoughts, Well, we had to wait to the
final play to come up with some final thoughts. As
it turns out in this one, because some of the
thoughts weren't always good to be quite honest, as great
as the Panthers hung in for four quarters, there were
some points left on the table, some missed opportunities and
misuse along the way, and we were wrong in general.
We thought, you know, you have to play a near
perfect game to beat a team like green Bay on

(49:58):
the road. As it turns out, there was margin for
error and enough. Green Bay was not perfect today and
the Panthers took advantage of that, but did what they
had to do. Rico Dowell ran the ball twenty five times,
one hundred and thirty yards, two touchdowns, and then at
the end of rookie Ryan Fitzgerald with a walkoff field
goal makes it from forty nine yards out in swirling,
crazy win conditions. Here kudos to the defense Aveniche that

(50:20):
had two takeaways. We mentioned green Bay only turned it
over three times all year heading into this one, so
all three phases had a big hand into victory.

Speaker 6 (50:27):
And they kept green Bay out of the end zone
for most of the game. Green Bay got in with
about two and a half minutes to go. It was
bend but don't break. It was Rico Dowdell one hundred
and thirty yards, twenty five carries, rewarding Dave Canalis's faith
and Rico was the lead back. They did just enough
on that final drive. They put their kicker in position.
But after what we saw last week against Buffalo, I

(50:51):
think the general consensus from people around the NFL, and
frankly people around the Panthers too, was Okay, maybe this
team is quite ready for prime time. Buffalo is in
another tier. Green Bay's in that same tier elite teams
super Bowl dreams. Well, they come to Green Bay. You
mentioned it toughest place to play. This was a Lambeau

(51:12):
leap forward for this franchise in a lot of ways.
Statement win, it's the biggest win, Luke, maybe since you played.
I mean it's been a minute since they've had a
win of this magnitude. And this will reverberate. They've shown
they can be resilient. Things have not snowballed this year
like years past. They get up off the mat, got
beat up by Buffalo. They come to Green Bay, they

(51:35):
take it to the Panthers. They take it to the Packers.
This is, you know, the kind of win that I
think maybe changes how you view the season and what's
possible this season.

Speaker 11 (51:44):
Well, absolutely, and I just give Dave Canalis a ton
of credit him and him and Tracy Smith for the
reason we received the football to start the game is
to have the win at our back at the end
of the game, with the anticipation that if it comes
down to we need to be able to move the ball,
we need a bit of a throw it. We also
to be able to kick. So I give Dave Canalis
a lot of credit for making that decision. And then
he's made a lot of difficult decisions in his time

(52:07):
as coach year with Bryce last year and having Andy
player now this year, with riding the hot hand with Rico,
He's able to make decisions that are in the best
interests of the team and not not not always the
easiest one. And I'll tell you what I'm gonna talk
about it again. Joe Gilbert's done a fantastic job to
have Chandler Zavalla come back and then he gets bumped
out and then Jack Kurrahan has to step in. We

(52:28):
ran the ball extremely well, we pass protected really well,
and I just think the mental resolve of our team
on both sides of the ball has been phenomenal. Last week,
like we talked about, wasn't great at all, but we
were able to put our head down, get back to
work on that Monday and came out here and I thought,
I thought, for the most part, we played pretty pretty
clean football.

Speaker 8 (52:46):
We were tough, and we were physical.

Speaker 11 (52:47):
And I think that's a that's a good measure of
your coaches, how physical you are. It wasn't a pretty game.
Nothing we did was was was pretty, but we stayed
to our game plan. Control the football, run the ball,
keep it close, and at the end of the game,
give ourselves a chance to go win at the end.
So I just give Canalison his whole coaching staff a
lot of credit for getting these guys to bounce back

(53:09):
and lock in after a tough loss and put a
best foot forward. And now we get to go play
at home next week.

Speaker 9 (53:13):
Offensive line patchwork to how many degrees a niche only
one sack in this game for Bryce Young And to
Luke's point, rico' daddle runs the ball for one hundred
and thirty yards. I mean, you're beyond being deep at
offensive line, the cohesion that they mustered together to put
that together. It doesn't operate without that, and for most
of that I think the pocket was pretty clean to
throw out of it. They didn't throw a lot for

(53:34):
a lot of yards in this game, but Rico had
openings in that run game there. So to me, that's
kind of the unsung hero they always are, and that's
what the offensive line is by nature.

Speaker 2 (53:43):
But that's the underbelly of the story.

Speaker 9 (53:44):
I thought was how the offensive line held up today.

Speaker 8 (53:46):
I mean, think about it.

Speaker 6 (53:47):
You're you're really down three starters, right, Kate Mays is out,
Corbyn comes back in its center holds the Ford Chandler
Zavala starting for Brady Christensen who was starting for Robert Hunt.
Sofali goes down, I'll be honest, I don't think a
lot of Panther fans probably knew who seventy four Jake
Kurhan was prior to last.

Speaker 8 (54:05):
Week, maybe even prior to today.

Speaker 6 (54:07):
And then Josh Schneiman subbing in for Taylor Mowtin and oh,
by the way, you clear the path for one hundred
and thirty yards for Rico Dwell, he did his job. Again,
I think if you're a Panther fan, and you've been
kind of looking for that moment. There have been signs
and glimmers. This is a real moment. I really do
believe it. And you got the Saints, you got the Falcons,

(54:28):
teams that you know you can beat, teams that now
you're going to be expected to beat. You know, you
don't want to make too much of one win, but
you just beat a really good team. You just beat
a team that might win the super Bowl or might
play in a super Bowl on their home field. This
is significant. This means something. And you know, obviously how

(54:50):
the Panthers respond from this and move forward from this,
that will say a lot. But right now, in this moment,
this team has shown signs to be able to finish it,
to win the game that they the way they did. Jim, I,
I think this is one that maybe three four weeks
from now, six weeks from now, we may point too
is a real change point, a real turning point.

Speaker 2 (55:12):
Yeah, let's see what they do with it.

Speaker 9 (55:13):
As you said, five and four now and going home
for New Orleans fans will be I think extra excited
for this one and packed the place at Bank of
America Stadium.

Speaker 3 (55:21):
All Right, Luke and Aniche. Great words there.

Speaker 8 (55:23):
We said it.

Speaker 2 (55:23):
Back to Charlotte now with Brett, Mike and eug All right,
thanks lot, guys, appreciate it. When we come back, we'll
have our three. I went, Mike, do it an updated scoreboard?

Speaker 3 (55:32):
You want to do update scoreboard? Real quick?

Speaker 5 (55:33):
Would you like to do that right now?

Speaker 3 (55:34):
Still that real quick?

Speaker 5 (55:36):
Because or when we last left right, Cincinnati had a
one point lead over Chicago. That was after Joe Flacco.
Flacco had a nine yard touchdown pass with fifty four
seconds seventeen seconds to go in the game, Caleb Williams
rips off a seventy eight yard touchdown pass to Colston Loveland.

(55:56):
Chicago stuns Cincinnati with a forty seven to win.

Speaker 2 (56:01):
Wow, I mean they you had to think you had.

Speaker 4 (56:03):
Yeah, I thought I thought it was I thought it
was a full goinge conclusion that Cincinnata was gonna win.

Speaker 3 (56:07):
But I was wrong.

Speaker 5 (56:09):
I was wrong too. Indeed, speaking of the Rams and
the New Orleans Saints.

Speaker 2 (56:13):
Both of whom we will see in the next upcoming
opponents in this month. Yeah, before the end of the month.
The Rams are here on the.

Speaker 5 (56:20):
Thirtieth, so with two minutes they were at a two
minute warning, and right now it is a twenty to
three lead for the hometown Los Angeles Rams. Matthew Stafford
already three touchdowns Gene in the in the first the stakes.

Speaker 3 (56:33):
Have been taking it on the shin. They've been having
a tough rough here, yes they are.

Speaker 5 (56:37):
This one's interesting. Jacksonville at Las Vegas at Alliance Stadium
on the Sunset Strip. There scoreless thirty eight seconds ago,
second quarter, so still no score. Both teams kind of
struggling to get any kind offense. Oh well, Las Vegas
just scored, so it's six nothing. Raiders, okay, Raiders, Raiders
and then Buffalo. We've been this game has been on
here in the studio fourteen to ten over Kansas City.

(56:59):
So Kansas City took that early lead ten to seven,
but then Buffalo adding a touchdown with about six and
a half to go.

Speaker 4 (57:05):
And both quarterbacks look like they're playing well too. They
I mean, they are both amazing. Alan and mahomes El.

Speaker 5 (57:11):
Well, if you go by quarterback rating, Eugene, I'd have
to disagree with it.

Speaker 2 (57:17):
By quarterback well because Josh.

Speaker 5 (57:18):
Allen is twelve or fourteen one thirty eight a touchdown,
no interceptions, with a one thirty one point one of
Brett's favorite numbers, one thirty one point five.

Speaker 3 (57:25):
What does that mean? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (57:26):
And then mahomes three of six fifty yards seventy eight
point five is his quarterback rating. Yeah, what does that mean?
I will say as the Buffalo one hundred and eighty
seven total yards to eighty six for the Kansas City Chiefs. So,
I mean, it looks like a close game, but the
numbers would say that Buffalo has really kind of moved
the ball a little bit more.

Speaker 3 (57:43):
And they're not.

Speaker 4 (57:44):
I mean when we're watching the game and it's it's
going to be a close game, and the mistake from
playing Buffalo Kansas City just seems to I don't know,
they played them well, they have the number and they
just play them well and they've always played them well.

Speaker 2 (57:57):
Yeah, getting their heads. Yeah, they had three six he
throw six passes the first half. It's pretty amazing.

Speaker 5 (58:04):
Coming up tonight a future opponent. Seattle is at Washington,
not a future opponent. And then tomorrow night, the Monday
night game. Two teams the Panthers have already played and
they've split with them Arizona, who they lost to in Dallas,
who they beat at at the Star in Dallas.

Speaker 2 (58:18):
That'll be the.

Speaker 5 (58:18):
Monday in a game at a fifteen tomorrow night.

Speaker 2 (58:20):
All right, sounds good. All right, when we come back,
it'll be time for our three and outs.

Speaker 1 (58:24):
The Panthers postgame show continues live from Bank of America Citio,
exclusively on the Carolina Panthers Radio Network.

Speaker 2 (58:34):
All right, Ty, to wrap things up here, the Panthers
had a walk off win in Green Bay sixteen to thirteen.
A forty nine yard field goal by mister Fitzpatrick is
the game winner. Fitzgerald, I don't know who mister Fitzpatrick is. No,
Ryan Fitzgerald gets a forty nine yarder to win it,

(58:56):
and we are ready for our three and outs and
we'll let Eugene Robinson kick things off.

Speaker 4 (59:00):
So I thought the defense played extremely well, and I
think to move forward, as you are moving forward, the
defense has to come up with that type of stuff.

Speaker 3 (59:06):
To go from Buffalo.

Speaker 4 (59:07):
Where you're giving up two hundred and thirty eight yards
and to go ahead and keep them leavings running back
Jacob to eighty seven yards. I mean, that was astounding.
They played extremely well. Coach to Jerroald got to give
you a lot of credit lots of blitzes, getting in
the face of the quarterback and really getting love unsettled
back there, and it paid, It paid dividends and you

(59:28):
stopped the run. So moving forward, we got to stop
the run. Offensive line, Coach Gilbert, thanks man. I'll tell
you what, because the way that's been shuffled in and out,
there's been no dropage. There's been absolutely no dropage. And
you would expect that there would be. You would expect
the learning curve of getting guys in and out and
changing this position. You would expect that there would be

(59:51):
some Achilles Hills. Michael Parses is on the other side
of that field, and you didn't even hear his name.
You didn't even hear his name, and so so I
think that needs two Coach. I'm gonna trust Coach Canalis
and his decision making because he's been making some really
good decisions and as as Luke Kickley put it, sometimes

(01:00:15):
they're not popular. They're not popular decisions.

Speaker 3 (01:00:18):
You know what.

Speaker 4 (01:00:18):
He doesn't need my advice. He doesn't need your advice, Brett.
He's doing fine by himself. I'm gonna go. I'm riding
Coach Canalys.

Speaker 2 (01:00:24):
There you go, Mike I'm riding with Nalys.

Speaker 3 (01:00:27):
I'm riding with Nalys.

Speaker 5 (01:00:29):
Well, you weren't with us last week. I got boot
off the stage from my partners Eugene and Jim for
being a little too too philosophical.

Speaker 3 (01:00:37):
But that's right, you were so like, what the heck?

Speaker 5 (01:00:45):
This is what I liked. Smash mouth offense, running the ball,
kind of stuffed it down their throat physical defense. And
the third thing I really liked was not only the
turnover like they won the turnover battle, but also won
the special teams. So all three phases would be my
three note.

Speaker 2 (01:01:03):
My first one is it kind of goes on with
Gene was talking about a little bit. Yeah, the defense
played better against the rushing game today, but there were
still some breakdowns and they still need to work on
stopping their running game. You know, there's big gaps. There
are still some gaps that happen occasionally, and you know,
we saw them do really well against the Jets, not

(01:01:26):
so well against Buffalo. Better today, if that's something that
he continued to work on. Obviously, the offense has found
his identity. Run the ball, smash mouth football. Got to
be doing it. They got to keep doing it. I
like the commitment to Rico Dwell. I understand why they
felt like they needed to keep Chuba in the mix.
But great running backs run better when they run the

(01:01:47):
ball a lot, and they get better as the game
goes on. And finally, remember the twenty four hour rule.
It works. It also goes when you win. This is
a win for this team. But you know what, New
Orleans doesn't care. They're gonna come in here next week
and they're gonna be ready to play, and they're hoping

(01:02:08):
that the Panthers are still celebrating the Green Bay win.
We saw what happened with Atlanta earlier this year when
they came off a big win over Minnesota and then
just kind of took it for granted. They're going to
beat the Panthers. Was it thirty to nothing? Yeah, So
remember the twenty four hour rule. Coming here ready to
play New Orleans.

Speaker 4 (01:02:26):
And don't forget that the Panthers when they lost against
the Patriots and then they lost against Buffalo, they bounced
back really extremely well. And so this team is not
this is a really good, solid team. You know, it's
a it's a team that's forging its own identity. But
his solid team and Luke Kickley said that. Bessie said, Man,

(01:02:49):
this defense was physical. So sometimes when you make mistakes
on defensive, defensively, when you punch a man in the throat,
hit him right there in the mouth, what it don't
even matter. It doesn't matter because guess what, I might
have messed up, but that dude's going back there.

Speaker 3 (01:03:03):
These dudes ain't playing. They taking names and numbers.

Speaker 2 (01:03:06):
You think Green Bay is ever gonna wear those blue uniforms, akin.

Speaker 3 (01:03:10):
I think those retired? If bussy that helmet too.

Speaker 2 (01:03:14):
Next week, the Panthers stadium showed ten o'clock on the Fox.
The Panthers got down to kick off at noon, kickoff
at one oh two. It's a home game against the
New Orleans Saints and Panthers postgame show at four o'clock.
Once again, the Panthers win it at Green Bay sixteen thirteen.

Speaker 1 (01:03:30):
Carolina Pacers Football. He's blocked to you, Bine Harris Teeter,
the official grocery store of your Carolina Panthers, Bank of America.

Speaker 2 (01:03:39):
What would you like the power to do?

Speaker 1 (01:03:42):
Mount Olive, the official pickle juice of the Carolina Panthers.
