Thirty twenty seven, thirty twenty seven Panthers win it on
a last second field goal by Ryan Fitzgerald. So back
to back weeks three point wins at home for the Panthers.

Hundred on the season at three and three with a
win that lisiat have to come back, Mike, as far
as last week it was seventeen to nothing here, but
another unbelievable performance by Rico Dowell. He backed up his
words as as he said last week, buckling, and he said,
here we go one eighty three. He finished with on
thirty rushing attempts and then he catches four passes.

So I mean, I think he might have done his
yards from scribbage from last week based on those reception yards.

Well, and this is just a classic football formula, right,
win line of scrimmage on both sides, run the ball,
fall control, and then when the game's in the balance.

Speaker 4 (01:17):
You know you're forced out. You keep getting first downs.

Speaker 5 (01:19):
You forced Dallas to use all their timeouts and then
they abure to just kind of bleed the clock out.
And you know, we're got to talk a lot about rigo'
donald offensive line one hundred percent, absolutely well deserved Bryce
hunk seventeen to twenty five nine yards three.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
Now you'd have the one interception, but he threw three
touchdown passes.

Speaker 6 (01:35):
Yeah, but when we talk about interceptions, we need to
really define what those are because sometimes a quarterback may
overthrow the ball and that's interception, or the defictive back
may make him good play.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
But when it hits your receiver hands, bounces off the.

Speaker 6 (01:47):
Receivers hands into the defensive back, well that's just a
miss catch and it should go as a miscatch. And
now interception it has to have another category for that.
I thought Bryce played an incredible game, peckable game. I
thought the officsive line was stelling stell. Offensive line, in
my opinion, today won the game. Day in the defense,

they won the game. Officive line was stelling stelling you.

Don't run it without having a great offensive line and
blocking downfield.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
And Dak Prescott had his day.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
He had three touchdown passes through for two hundred and
sixty one yards in this game. And George Pickens had
his big numbers. But the Panthers did what they needed
to for the second week in a row. Eugene in
really limiting the run. I mean, Jontay Williams was third
in the league in rushing ends up with twenty nine
yards in the game.

And I loved the way how everybody Corroll did run.
Coach Gerald caught a really good game as far as
his game plan of getting bodies up in front to
stop the run, and then they could even stop the
run with a four man rush at times because they
were so well skilled. And I like what we saw
with the secondary, how the secondary was able to help
in the screening. Whenever we had a screen, there was

a guy right in there. Particular was in the game
to go ahead with the Loswallas, Well there's more riggs
to gun and nullify the screen.

So it was a complete effort.

Speaker 6 (03:04):
The beef has got the ball back to the office
and the offense came through and once again, offensive line
I know that it's been kind of makeshift. You're not
gonna get the credit as you should deserve, but you
played a brilliant game against a team that could put
a lot of poison on the board and you were
able to limit that.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
Mike. We've been seeing this combination the last couple of weeks.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Stop the run on one hand, run the ball really
well on the other side, pretty fundamental with special teams.
Ryan Fitzgerald, I mean, this is a rookie that won
a kicking competition that went down to the wire. Yeah,
and he's had some really clutch moments in his first
six games of NFL regular season football.

Yeah.

And I think you know, all this kind of boils
together in a nice concoction of confidence, right, because that's
what something Mary hard He always used to talk to
us about membory like confidence. And this team is getting
their confidence, they're getting their legs underneath them, and it's it's.

Guys feeding off each other.

Speaker 5 (03:53):
And I think obviously, Ryan, to get back to what
you were talking about, Ryan Fitzgerald, obviously he has a
strong leg, but now that he knows it like he's
not alone, I think in a situation he can make
the big plays, get some big kicks, and you know,
certainly hit the game winner.

Today.

Was last week's game a precursor of what we saw
what the defense was going to do because the defense
was able to limit them to nineteen rushing yards last week.
And really, and I don't know what the final numbers are, chick,
you could look up the final numbers, but they did
an excellent job of limiting the run.

They find out stopped the run.

I know, yeah, I mean, but it's incredible. And I
thought that in Jonathan Stewart said it last week. He said,
is the defense like getting on a row where it's
gonna really kind of click? Because I think this Dolphin
game is a deciding game. It's like a turning point game.
And I think I saw that again today because the
team I saw last week and a team I saw

this week defensively, that's the team I said moving forward,
you better watch out, you better watch out.

That was really good defense.

his former team, the Dallas Cowboys.

It was Dak getting the ball to George Pickens a

fourth quarter. Bryce the second touchdown pass first two of
his regular season career to the rookie t mac here
as a Tedro McMillan a two yarder to put Carolina
back on top.

to the final game winning drive Panthers. Last week I

touchdown in the game against Miami, this time setting up
the game winning kick by the rookie Ryan Fitzgerald's same
length as an extra point thirty three yarder for the win.

know what I thought about that, and I was like,
you know, the best game that I could go to
and I know they're gonna win.

Cowboys fun to watch. And for you, what was your
day like doing the keep hoiding drum? Right?

Speaker 12 (08:36):
It was a great day being a legend of the
game and creating awareness when it comes to cancer.

Speaker 3 (08:42):
You know, crucial catch is real, yep.

Speaker 12 (08:44):
And there are so many families that are affected by it,
and so to continue to bring that message forward was
a blessing.

Speaker 3 (08:49):
What's your story with cancer? So they could share with
the audience.

Speaker 12 (08:52):
Oh Man over a year ago, in July last year,
was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Speaker 13 (08:57):
Prostate cancer does not run in my family, you know.

Speaker 12 (09:00):
Obviously it was a shock because I believe that I'm
a healthy young man.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
You're about the you and Eugene are to the healthiest
former player is the healthiest guy. I know. My goodness,
young man, you know that's right.

Speaker 12 (09:12):
I put instances on young man fifty five years old
prostate cancer and I was like, oh no. My wife,
being a nurse twenty eight years we were faced with
a decision and so went to the doctor. Had to
tulsa pro procedure and I just tell everybody suit up,
get screened.

Speaker 3 (09:31):
Yep, like, get screened.

Speaker 13 (09:32):
Don't take anything for granted. You never know when it
can happen, but when it.

Speaker 3 (09:37):
Does, you have options. I worked out great for you, obviously,
thank you. I appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (09:41):
And I think you make a great point letter because
I think sometimes especially as men, and when you're in
good shape, you think.

Speaker 4 (09:47):
You know what I can do it next year, I
think I'm good. Maybe yeah, I'm good. Maybe due two
years later.

Speaker 5 (09:50):
But to your point, screening is just so critical because
sometimes you know, you catch it early and then you
know good things can happen.

Speaker 12 (09:56):
And that's why they call it a crucial catch right, right,
is because it is crucial when you when you're diagnosed
with it, but understanding that if you find it.

Speaker 13 (10:03):
Early enough, you have options to be able to deal
with it.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
Well, let me pivot.

Speaker 6 (10:08):
What what stood out to you to this game in
this win?

Speaker 12 (10:15):
Like it was game on when I saw that we
had a chance to win by a field goal?

Speaker 13 (10:19):
Gino, you know we don't care how we win. Oh,
we know is at the end of the day, we
have a w that's right, So game on, let's go.

Speaker 6 (10:27):
And and I thought that the defense and your defensive plack.

Speaker 12 (10:32):
I believe that the defense stepped up more so today
than I've seen all year. To be honest, Bryce was
very consistent with throwing the ball. The receivers were amazing
and catching the ball, and it was consistency across the board.

Speaker 6 (10:45):
No doubt. Absolutely. You know who it is being in
that defensive backfield. And here it is when you got
somebody like Pickings that's really such a good player. What
do you think that's some of the best methods to
do to a player like that.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
It's the jam Early, you know, that's damn num Early.

Speaker 12 (11:01):
Get him off of his game, don't let him get comfortable,
continue to blitz Dac and make the situation crucial in
that moment.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
Yeah, there's no doubt about that.

Speaker 6 (11:11):
And I thought that coach of Gerald did a great
job of putting pressure on Zach and making it very
very difficult.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
Pick has got his due, but it's still it was
very difficult Pickers.

Speaker 12 (11:20):
It's going to get us catches though, right like we
understand that we just don't want them to get the catches.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
Yes when they need it the most.

Speaker 5 (11:27):
And letter when you look at a game like this,
a game like last week. Does it remind you of
or how much does the remind you of some of
the teams that we've seen here that have had success
kind of the similar formula, run the ball, strong on defense,
pressure of the quarterback. Thinking the turnovers today, but that's
part of the formula as well well.

Speaker 12 (11:44):
I mean keeping the turnovers to a minimum, yep, right,
but understanding that if you create a running game, then
you have a chance for a passing game. But if
you're just now limited to passing, it's tough to win.
And I think overall, we had the consistency and the
formula to beat Dallas Cowboys today and that was the result.

Rico o'dowdell didn't start for this team till last week,
and he was hundred yards again and had well over
two hundred yards all purpose.

Today he is bawling. I mean, the consistency with the
running backs. We know how important a running game is,
right when it comes to winning. I mean it was
they lived up to keep pounding.

Yeah, tenorro McDon got his first two touchdowns. Today's had
a great rookie year to this point. But you know,
you see a big guy like that six' five with
his wingspan how tough is he to defend as a defensive.

Back, brother let me tell you. Something, okay if he
can jam a receiver and not even be close to
him because of his, wingspan he's already.

Won, yeah, like, seriously he's already won because you, know
you know. This if we can get the receiver off that,

say is kind of Traditional Carolina panthers. Football when this
team is successful, one they're going to the.

said so they're running the, ball they're stopping the. Run
and to be able to do that to A dallas,

like that if your offensive line is not.

of the first half and then certainly the end of the.

DO i just wanted to put our guys in position
and be successful and make sure that you, know we
were giving, them you, know the best options in terms
of the run game in the past, game you, know
in those. SITUATIONS i can't really think too much about
that other than like when you get to fourth down
situations and you, know just might make me a little
more aggressive in those spots to try to get us

a new, series get us a new set of, downs
and try to let the clock go down because we
Know dallas has that. Offense but, otherwise you, know it's
just being locked in With bryce and making sure we're
getting things in a timely.

Matter, coach moving forward and moving forward to next? Week
how do you keep these guys locked? IN i think
that's something that's it's been fun for me to watch
as this team grow as a unit with all the,
injuries especially in the offensive. Line what has been the
commonality of these guys playing at such a high level
the past couple.

Weeks, man really just stacking three amazing weeks of, Practice,
Luke and it's the focus and the intentionality that the
guys are showing up, with the communication that's, happening anticipating
stuff things you're really familiar with in terms of just
calling out formations and personnels and here's a couple of
plays they run out of this look and just watching
the guys really take ownership of that part because that's

what helps you play, fast and you, know certainly starts
with the run, game you know on the defensive, side
and the way that they've continued to make a challenging
for teams to try to run the ball and giving
us more pass opportunities to try to affect the, passer
Which dak did a great job of operating. There but
then you know offense and special teams as. Well it's
just a group that's learning good process and that's WHAT i.

Want that's at my, heart my heart is that we
can capture that part and show them and prove to
them this leads to.

we practiced it two weeks. Ago Coach George lee sets
us up with different scenarios at the end of our
walkthroughs and end of, game end of, half whether it's
two minute or four, minute just to challenge the, guys

show them great examples during the week Of, hey here's
a scenario right here where they're gonna this is a
freeway situation for the. Defense you got to go down
right here so we can run the clock out and
then walk it off with the field, goal Which ryan
did a great job.

Of Dave taylor's old as time, right run the football
and stop the Wrong let's start with a defensive component of.
That you held the number three rusher in THE nfl
to twenty nine yards on thirteen. Carries can you speak
to what this defensive front is doing right now against.

The, yeah it's working, together it's, communicating and it's the
discipline of the. Fits it's it's where you're supposed to
be based on the style of. Run the guys are
into it and they make it come alive in the
week of practice and then they execute it on game.
Day so it really starts. There and it's the same
thing for the offensive. Side it starts at those big
boys up, front you, Know Brady christiansen, again Yosh niman
stepping in For, timo you, know and doing a great

(30:21):
job getting the run. Started the tight ends have been
invaluable over the last two, weeks just you, know being
physical on the edges and giving us opportunity for extra.
Yard it's the whole, group you, know it's a whole.
Group It's bryce getting us to the right. Runs but
that type of process and that, belief you, know we
practice runs a lot and because we believe that that's
what it takes to win, games especially late in the second.

Half and got to ask you About Rico dwell two
weeks in a. Row what's that like from your vantage,
Point it's.

Speaker 16 (30:47):
Amazing you, know it's a guy that's on a. Mission
it's it's a guy that you, know runs with violence
and pours out everything he has on every. Carry AND
i just love that. ATTITUDE i love the personality that he.
Brings and it's gonna get really interesting when we Get
cuba back out, there and you know we have that
type of attack to be able to you, know give
me the confidence to continue to call these runs because
you got two great backs that can run.

the other, hand you want to get the best version of,

them AND i wonder how they'll go about that.

Rotation and typically what the coach would do is, like
whoever's playing the, best that's that's what you, run that's
what you use the. Most and SO i like the
fact that when you can bring In, donno he's really
almost like another, receiver so you can bring him in
a different package and still Have tuba back there as
a main running back, too so that that lends yourself
to a little bit more some of the things we,

SAW i, Mean Jimmy horn doing cut down that. SWEEP
i could See dowdell doing that little jet sweep thing that's.
Happening so if you both have them in the, game
it's a great problem to. Have and the fact THAT
i really believe that the offensive line is hitting on
all cylinders.

Happen and whenever you get big runs down the, field
that means your receiver is a block and down field
they have to so that if you can get big
runs down the. Field we saw that last, week but
this week we saw more six, seven, eight you, know

coach and have that formula sixty percent, run forty percent,

TIME i played with two of probably the greatest coaches.

head coach And Nick saban was our defensive. Coordinator And
i'll tell you one. Thing when we had had a
defensive plan the first, quarter they come, out they didn't

the one thing about those guys we went in at
halftime made adjustments in the second half was totally. Different
we almost set the direcord defensively as far as least
