Speaker 1 (00:02):
No, Mike p Chico with the Panthers postgame show exclusively
on the Carolina Panthers Radio Network.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
And the Carolina Panthers at four and three, a winning record,
three game win streak, first since twenty twenty one, and
Jonathan Stewart the defense coming up making some really huge plays,
couple interceptions for Jason, A lot of big plays really
on both sides of the ball here. Not a very
high scoring affair, but it is a road win, the
first one for the Panthers. I Mike Pachico, Jonathan Stewart alongside,

(00:35):
and you know, this team has been building up to this,
and you know, the Jets kind of played well enough
to lose, if that's and I don't mean that, I
mean they played to give themself a chance to win
the game. But again they come up short and basically
a one position game. But Carolina Panthers making big play
especially in the second half when they needed.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
Yeah, you know, being in position and playing patient football.
That's what I saw today on defense, letting you know,
letting the defense fold or the offense fold into your lap.
That's what I saw today on the Panther side. Is
stuff in the run when it matters the most crucial
third down plays. We saw our guys and the secondary

(01:13):
step up and make the plays when we needed it.

Speaker 4 (01:17):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
You know, red zone stops are hard to come by
when when teams in the red zone, they're coming away
with something. And you know, I just I just think
back to when I was playing, you know, Uh, Trey Boston,
Roman Harper, Kurt Coleman, Josh Norman.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
Thieves a right fevery. We're here to steal your points.
We're here to.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Steal the ball. We're here to we're here to make
an impact on this game. And that's what that's what
happened in New at MetLife Stadium today.

Speaker 5 (01:48):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
You know New York Jets, they are desperate for a
winning you can see it.

Speaker 4 (01:54):
And how they were.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
Trying to figure things out on the offense, getting Tyrod
Taylor back in into the into the mix because fields
couldn't you know, operate under the pressure.

Speaker 6 (02:05):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
And credit to you know, our defensive line just staying active.
I think we had what six seven sacks today.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
There's five five or six sacks and then Derek Brown
I think had three balls batted down.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
Yeah, I mean that, I mean, I mean that might
as well count as a sack because that does something
to that has to do something to a quarterback.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
It's demoralizing.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
You're sitting here thinking that you see a guy wide open,
and then all of a sudden, you hear that loud
smack and there it goes on the ground.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
You remember we were you were with this couple weeks
ago when the Panthers beat Miami, and I remember saying
something to you in the post game show like this
looked like a Carolina Panthers win. Like when this team
is rolling and playing well, doing the things that you
know those teams did. Your teams did, which was, you know,
run the ball, control the line of scrimmage, and win
close games. And now we've seen three straight weeks where

(02:54):
this team is doing all those things that winning teams do.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Yeah, I mean you're talking about in a way game.
This is not your home crowd, You're it's it's a
hostile environment no matter where you go outside of your
own facility.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
You talk about New York Jets, They're they're not really
bad on defense in my opinion. I mean, they played
the Denver Broncos last week. I think they played the
Denver Broncos and they did a good job of main
of stopping the run against Denver and coming into this game.
You know, I think the anticipation, you know, for fans were, oh,

(03:31):
We're just gonna continue to.

Speaker 4 (03:32):
Just run all over them. Right.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
We didn't necessarily, you know, gash them the way we've
been gashing teams the last couple of weeks. But what
we what we did do was we stick to the
game plan, which was Ricodoudochuba Hubbard offensive line. We're gonna
run the ball, especially when you have injuries up front.
Damian Lewis went down, Austin corporate stuff stepped up. Cad

(03:55):
Mays obviously still at the center position. But when you
have the mountain of switch ups at the offensive line spot,
your best friend is to run the ball. So canal
as understanding that type of tempo and the formula, it's
crucial to the Carolina Panther success because what that does,

(04:15):
it does open up things down the road for those
explosion plays like we did get to see.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Well, and I think, you know the game plan coming in,
Cuba Hubbard gets the start, you know those a little
I mean, we knew that both running backs are going
to play, but they're kind of keeping under raps a
little bit, Dave Canal said on Friday, But Cuba Hubbard
gets the start and they were pretty consistent with the
switching off, and I think that helped wear down the
Jets defense late in the game.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
Oh yeah, when you have a fresh back coming in
and you know that they're both proven, there's no you
cannot slack on any play. And you know, I loved
seeing Rico he had like a five yard pickup and
the confidence he had of being able to tap himself out. Yeah,

(04:58):
knowing that Tuba would go in there, and that's the
way it's supposed to operate. You know, when you have
a successful you know tandem, you're you're not because as
a player, you do put a little bit of weight
on yourself as a starter or as the guy that's
supposed to do that job, which is run the ball
and block and receive right for him to be able

(05:22):
to feel, Okay, I'm tired, let me come out of
the game.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
I'm I'm already on the sideline.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
You go in there, and so that's gonna continue to
show up and it's gonna do this. This team wonders,
especially when you start having injuries. We saw Bryce go
down with an injury today, and even more so, that's
when you have to depend on the guys around you
to step up and make those types of plays.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Yeah, I'm gonna paraphrase the conversation that you and I
had before the game last week, and it's kind of like,
cause you mentioned this with you and Dangela Williams, like
you guys had more of a partnership than kind of
a rivalry, if that makes sense.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
Yeah, it's it's a partnership because you understand and what
the goal is at the end of the day is
to win football games and you have to put your
pride to the side for the betterment of the team.
That's what makes good teams. When you look at teams
over history, especially in the Carolina Panthers organization, the rosters
that we had, it was not me first, it was

(06:20):
we first. And that's the mentality that's going to carry
over and and hopefully you know, you cultivate this culture
that that means something. It means more than just it
means more than football. At the end of the day,
it's I want you to win because you have a family.
I know your family, I know your kids. I want
you to win. And I want you to want you

(06:41):
to win. So let's work in tandem here and create
that type of environment. And I think Dave Canela is
you know that's he screams that to me.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
So I think we're in good shape.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
Yeah, this team stacking up wins. And you go from
you know, a couple of years ago, when you know,
when you see teams that have losing records, they're losing games,
and they used to losing games big most for the
most part. Then you give teams that are kind of
working the way up towards the middle, they're losing close games.
Then you see teams that kind of get over the
hump or I think the Panthers are now is these
teams start winning close games, a lot of close games.

(07:12):
And we've seen that the last three weeks didn't need
a game winning field goals, had touchdown, big touchdown. And
you know, I also want to mention what a great
day for Xavier Lagette. He had a career career career game,
had nine catches, nine for eleven. He had two misses,
a touchdown ninety two yards.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
Yeah, you know, z they really get you know these
year two and every guy, every you know, player is
different some guys it takes one game to arrive, and
a lot of that is a mixture of the formula
in which what is around you. You know, last year
was a big learning curve for everyone, right, not necessarily

(07:53):
having the right players in the right spots, Bryce Nett
having the timing that he needed, you know, early on
in the season. Then he gets benched, and then he
comes back, and then they find their fire through Troopa
Hubbard in the running game, and then you know, a
lot of a lot of that, you know, for a
player like Xavier Lagett can get he can get lost

(08:14):
into the development of the team. And so I think
now that we've we've found, you know, our identity as
far as what type of team we're going to be
on game day, which is we're gonna run the rock
and we're gonna make sure we create opportunities in the
passing game. But we have to make sure that we're
physical front and that we can protect up front, so

(08:35):
that way, in crucial downs and crucial situations, we can
pick defenses apart because they're out of place. And I
think that's what we saw in this game. You know,
all the attention for the last couple of games has
been T Mac T Mac T Mac and then all
of a sudden we have Jimmy Horn junr Right, Jimmy Horn.
He was one grip away from a huge chunk play

(09:00):
a there Bryce Young had. In my opinion, I thought
it was a good ball. He should have should have
caught it, and I'm pretty sure he will tell you
should have caught it.

Speaker 4 (09:08):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
But when you start seeing guys start to develop, it
makes the defense think to themselves, Okay, who are we
gonna guard here? And then that's when you actually start
to have opportunities for Xavier to get to create space
and for the for you know, offensive coordinator to be
able to see the field uh in a in a
clear manner to where he can start drawing up plays

(09:31):
to put guys in that type of success.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
Yeah, we've talked a lot about the rookies that really
the first year players have really come on. And you
look at Nick Gorton and princevill Unmel and just the
games that those guys had in conjunction with Derek Brown
and Yea dj Want and of those guys, Trevon Wallace
I thought had even started talking about secondary yet.

Speaker 3 (09:51):
Yeah, it helps when you have a guy like Derek Brown,
because it frees up those players to do things that
they might not need to, not be able to do
without a kind of like that. Right, if he's taking
up two guys, sometimes three guys, it's gonna give lanes
for other guys to get to work.

Speaker 4 (10:06):
Well.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
I will say this, it's finally nice to be talking
about a four and three, a winning record. I mean,
we've we've had some lean years here, but we deserve it.
This team is and you know, they're fun, you know,
and I know you're on the other side of it
now from you know, from when you're a player. Now
you're you know, you're kind of an influencer and in
the media. But it's just so much better when the
team's winning. Like it's just these shows are better, you know.

(10:28):
It's you know, we have to we have to be good,
whether it's a winner or loss. But certainly is a
lot easier.

Speaker 3 (10:33):
It's a lot easier to talk about wins rather than
talking about reasons why we lost.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
Well, and there are a lot of reasons this team
one today. We'll get into those as we move along
here on the Panthers post game show, we have the
Honda Scoreboard we have highlights, we'll send it back to
the to the guys in the booth because I'm sure
we gonna have some pretty good interviews from the players.
Of course, we'll hear from Dave Canals and we'll have
more analysis from Jonathan Stewart and me. And we are back.
Panthers with a big win today, thirteen to six the

(11:00):
Metal Lands. You're listening to the Carolina Panthers Radio network
and we are back inside Bank of America Stadium. Panthers
going up to the Metallands today beating the Jets thirteen
to six. So Carolina now a four and three record,
so first three game win streaks since twenty twenty one,

(11:20):
and the Jets fall to zero to seven the hapless
New York Jets. But I would argue before we get
to the scoreboard, though, this is a team that you
don't want to play. I mean, they they could have
tripped up the Panthers, they had the Broncos last week.
I mean, they've they're they're team that they'll eventually get
get that win. But you know these are if you
want to be the team that the Panthers want to be,

(11:42):
this is a game you gotta win.

Speaker 3 (11:43):
Yeah, this is a this is I don't I don't
like saying this, but trap game.

Speaker 6 (11:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (11:51):
Yeah, been trying to.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
I've been trying to avoid it this whole week because
you know, you always want to you know, respect your
your opponent and some in my mind, I'm always thinking
like a player.

Speaker 4 (12:02):
But I'm not a player anymore. So this was a
trap game.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
Sounds good. This Driver Around League brought to you by
the Honda Dealers of the Carolinas. Earlier today, the Rams.
Really this was a lopsided game against Jacksonville. Scored a
touchdown late, but it was thirty five to seven Rams.
Matthew Stafford, how about this number five touchdowns? He only
had one hundred and eighty two yards passing. Wow, So

(12:26):
think about how many touchdowns you having that few of pass.

Speaker 4 (12:29):
That's called you know.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
The defense obviously dominated the Jacksonville Jaguars because they you know,
playing on their side of the field.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
And they were the opposite of the Panthers. They had
a bunch of four thousand and they weren't able to
get them. So it's, you know, sometimes you just got
to move the chains. Chicago wins twenty six to fourteen
over New Orleans Cleveland thirty one six over Miami. How
about this, Kansas City shuts out Las Vegas thirty one
to nothing, Philadelphia beats Minnesota twenty eight twenty two, and
New England thirty one thirteen over Tennessee. Drake May twenty

(13:02):
one of thirty three twenty two yards, had a couple
of touchdowns, and now he ties Dan Marino with six
games with over two hundred yards passing and over one
hundred quarterback rating under the age of twenty four.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
Oh wow, Drake May is going to be a heck
of a player. Hometown kid here in Charlotte.

Speaker 2 (13:21):
Yeah, Marris Park High School. So games just underway. You
have the Giants at Denver, that's about midway through the
first quarter, Indianapolis over the Chargers six to three, no score,
Green Bay at Arizona, Dallas and Washington just underway in Dallas.
And of course you have the Monday night game or

(13:42):
the Sunday night game, excuse me, tonight Atlanta at San Francisco,
and then two Monday night games Tampa Bay at Detroit.
That should be a really good that should be a
really good game. That'll be a seven to fifteen game.
Then the late game is Houston at Seattle. So you
got a couple of former Panther quarterbacks on Monday night
football and getting getting the big stage. But uh, you know,
before we head to our next break here, I did

(14:03):
want to bring up just you know, we've talked a
lot about the offense and the defensive line, but you know,
the secondary and and a lot of that. You know,
it's helpful because of how well the front played. Uh,
but Jase Horne is a couple of picks. Mike Jackson
was in coverage a bunch of times and knocked on
to the ball. So the secondary, you know, really came
up big in this game as well.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
Yeah, just again going back to you know, playing patient ball,
letting things come to you, you know, not overreacting that
trying to do so much to make a play or
make a stop, because you know, you look at the
plays that Mike jack had, you know, getting tested deep obviously,
you know they've been watching film and there's been countless

(14:44):
times where he's been you know, you know, chosen as
far as the guy that they're going to go deep on.

Speaker 4 (14:50):
And he knows that.

Speaker 3 (14:51):
So in his back pocket, in his back in the
back of his mind, he was patient with his hands.
He was good with his feet, and I think him
and J. C. Horn they put on some fantastic teach
tape this game. You know, his hands, late hands, watching
the receiver the whole time, man man coverage, and when

(15:13):
they when the receiver's hands go up, that's where you attack.
You attack their hands knock the ball out. So he
did that countless times on crucial third down plays.

Speaker 2 (15:23):
And the biggest one was late in the fourth quarter
when it was down the down the sideline might have been.

Speaker 4 (15:27):
To knock it away. Uh the and then j C.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
Horn obviously you just you know the first pick, the
one hand grab. You see him turn on the Jets
when he saw the ball in the air, and that's
called the ball hawk when when you see a player
go and get it at all costs. You know, that's
where we had. You know, that's in the defensive explosion play.

(15:53):
And those are the players that have have been missing,
you know, in the previous years. You know he's been
hurt and banged up a lot of those years too.
And so we got a healthy JC Horn. We have
Mike Jack in his second year here finding his rhythm
on this defense. I think this this defense, this this
football team has so much room to grow, and we're

(16:16):
not even are we midway.

Speaker 4 (16:17):
Through the season? Seven week?

Speaker 2 (16:18):
Seven games?

Speaker 4 (16:19):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (16:20):
Yeah, almost close.

Speaker 3 (16:21):
Yeah, we're so, we're almost midway through the season, and
I think there's still a lot of growing to do.
And I think if you ask them, it'd be interesting
to see what they you know, what their press conferences
are going to say. But there's gonna be a lot
of things to look at as far as the film,
as far as room for growth. You know, the third
downs on offense, you gotta get, you gotta convert, you

(16:43):
got to move the chains, uh, and you got to
make sure you're doing your defensive favor in those environments
of getting them off the field. But again, we talked
about playing complimentary football, and sometimes that's what this looks like.
It means, hey, offense, we got you, and they had
us today.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
Panthers twenty nine percent five of seventeen on third town.
Jets were seven to fifteen forty six percent. But the
big number for the Panthers three for four seventy five
percent on fourth ound and the Panthers possessed the ball
roughly eleven minutes more than the Jets. And I think
One of the biggest plays, even though the Panthers did
not score, was that late drive in the fourth quarter
where they would unfortunately they kind of ended all got

(17:24):
sacked and pushed them back. Couldn't really try a field
goal there. But that was, by time, their longest drive
of the game. It went over six I think six
minutes and forty seconds. But that that that kept the
Jets off the field.

Speaker 3 (17:33):
Yeah, because I mean, you give them enough time to
figure it out, you give them enough chances to figure
it out.

Speaker 4 (17:39):
The team will figure it out if you let them.

Speaker 3 (17:42):
Yep, right, and if your defense is out there for
you know, extended periods of time and they're you know,
passing the ball at a rate of you know, hey,
we're trying to get We got to score like our
life depends on it. Here, the DBS are probably thinking
to them, so I need I need electro lights, I

(18:02):
need an IVY, I need the COLT all of that
to recover. Because I ran all day today.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
I don't need any of those. But I still it's
pretty exciting to watch. Yeah, all right with Jonathan Stewart,
I am Mike Pachico. Take a quick time out here.
Panthers winning thirteen to six at the Meadow Lens. Still
have highlights to come. We'll go back to MetLife Stadium,
a couple interviews for you, of course, we'll break down
some things more here from Bank of America Stadium. You
are listening to Panthers Football.

Speaker 1 (18:30):
Yes, he's called Panthers Postgame Show live from Bank of
America Citio so.

Speaker 7 (18:36):
Three gip straight up the middle, touchdown, touchdown.

Speaker 1 (18:40):
Carolina reaction and analysis to today's game with special guests,
highlights and updates from around the league.

Speaker 7 (18:47):
Complete touchdown right side next to Cats touchdown.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
No till Mike Pucico with the Panthers postgame Show exclusively
on the Carolina Panthers Radio Network.

Speaker 2 (19:03):
Like Pachico, Johnathan Seward with you here at Bank of
America Stadium. As we move along here through the Panthers
Post game Show, Panthers winning thirteen to six, three game wins,
three game win streak. Now for the Panthers with Buffalo
coming up on Sunday, and while we have a moment here,
let's go ahead and take a look at the highlights.
Sow Jonathan. There were maybe weren't a lot of early highlights,
but the first highlight here will take us to the

(19:24):
first drive of the game. The Jets were marching down
the field. They got down to the Panthers thirty three
yard line. It was fourth and five and what was
maybe a harbinger of things to come for the Panthers defense.

Speaker 7 (19:36):
Shotgun snap, four man rush fields throws down field incomplete
for Reynolds on the slant covered well by Mike Jackson.
The Carolina defense gets the stop on the opening drive.
Luke happily pounds the table.

Speaker 2 (19:51):
I think it's always good. When Luke is happily pounding
the table, that means something good has happened, something something
really good has happened. Well the Panthers, you know, obviously
the manto this year has been touchdowns. You and I
have talked about this too. You know you want to
get and I think that was one of your keys
for the game last week was get touchdowns, don't kick
field goals. But in this situation, the Panthers go down
the field after a thirteen play drive, they take six

(20:14):
and a half minutes off the clock, and they take
a three to nothing lead. The Jets would answer early
in the second quarter with a Nick Folk field goal.
I think now he's fourteen or fourteen for field goals,
and you know old kickers, you got to put a
little faith and reli on ability into them. But then
we go late into the second quarter, Panthers have the ball.
They start at their own forty eight with three forty

(20:37):
one to play. Trooper Hubbard was in. He had a
couple of runs, but really the big play here, and
we talked about how fourth downs were really big for
the Panthers. This fourth down kept the drive going.

Speaker 7 (20:52):
From the Jet forty five yard line. Young in the
shotgun trips right waist time snap right spiders. He finds
McMillan for a first down at the thirty five of
New York. It is a gain of ten and that
will take us to the two minute warning.

Speaker 2 (21:10):
After the two minute warning, Tuba Hubbard has a five
yard run and then goes down the sideline for a
twenty six yard pass game and that sets up this
play to Xavier Laget.

Speaker 7 (21:22):
First down a goal from the three. Young under center
the staff to fake to Hubbard rolling right now, Young
rolls back to his left, eyes up. Young throws end
zone diving catch lea get touchdown Carolina and Jonathan.

Speaker 2 (21:36):
That was obviously big play because it's a touchdown, but
it was an interesting play design because I think they
had a lot of misdirection on that play. And then
finally Bryce was able to see Xavier Litt just kind
of like tuck in a little bit and found that
opening to get him the ball.

Speaker 3 (21:48):
Yeah, you know, that's all Phil right there, right and
feel and experience and confidence yep, and knowing where you
were on the field. So you know, Xavier la get
T Mac did it a couple of times today. You know,
whenever you find that zone and it's soft, you got
to figure out how to sit in and and and
trust that your quarterback is gonna find you.

Speaker 2 (22:08):
So then we move along to the third quarter and well,
let's actually let's let's back up a little bit because
there's still one more big play in that first half,
and again it's the defense making a big play.

Speaker 7 (22:22):
Calt Blizzard motion slot left shotgun stat pressure up the middle.
Field's devoured by tray Von Merrick back inside the forty
five of.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
New York and Derek really, uh he's been a tremendous
That was a great fine by uh By Dad, We're
gonna bring him and he's been a big part of
the defense.

Speaker 3 (22:45):
Yeah, Marrik has been a force to be reckoned with.
I mean, but credit to the defensive coordinator everro drawing
up this the s guy's blitzes to make sure that
the that the offense.

Speaker 4 (22:57):
Feels the pressure cruise.

Speaker 3 (23:00):
You want to make sure you're go on to haveltime,
you know, with the upbeat, when you know, with the
you know.

Speaker 4 (23:06):
The positive ticker.

Speaker 3 (23:07):
Right, So the defense came to play throughout the whole
entire game. But that right there was just, you know,
an example of what you know, what the defensive coordinator
is obviously aware of, but more importantly the skill sets
that these guys have.

Speaker 2 (23:25):
So Panthers lead ten three at the half, they go
up thirteen to three on a twenty nine yard field
goal on their first drive. So they couldn't technically double
dip with touchdowns, but they were at least able to
put points on the board, especially after that touchdown. Was
I think it was good to start the second half
with some kind of points. And then late in the
third quarter, this was an amazing play by J. C.

(23:45):
Horn on second and ten from the thirty yard line,
with seemingly the Jets maybe minding to try and get
a score.

Speaker 7 (23:55):
Under center here's the snap, the fake to haul, Taylor
floats it down the scene toward the end zone, j
C hard On one handed takeaway and the Panthers get
the ball back.

Speaker 2 (24:10):
A one handed that, I mean, it was a great call.
Almost doesn't do justice just how amazing it was, because
not only was it the one handed grabb Jonathan, but
then he also had to kind of tuck it in
and get the slide, make sure he was possessing the
ball before he went out of bounds.

Speaker 3 (24:23):
Yeah, he had the whole sequence down, pat You know,
when you have the way if you actually go back
and watch it, he's running and sprinting, and it looked
like it took like ten seconds, right because that's how
much time it felt like he had to get there.
And you know he's probably thinking to himself, Okay, I'm
gonna catch this with one hand, and I'm gonna do

(24:46):
all the things necessary to make sure.

Speaker 4 (24:47):
I said, you're this catch period.

Speaker 2 (24:50):
It was. Yeah, it was. It was insanely what an
amazing I mean, that's that's gotta be a If it's
not the best player on Sports Center tonight, it's gonna
be a top top five play.

Speaker 4 (25:00):
No no doubt about it, and.

Speaker 2 (25:01):
Especially how impactful it was. It wasn't just that it
was an amazing play, but also you have to take
into the impact in that game because you know, at
that point, if he doesn't catch that, it's it's very
likely that the Jets receiver catches it for a touchdown.

Speaker 3 (25:15):
Right, he catches it for a touchdown, drops it, or
they set up for a field goal.

Speaker 2 (25:19):
Right, So then the Panthers they they Now Meanwhile, in
a quarterback you have Andy Dalton. Bry Shawn got hurt
on a previous the previous series from the j C.
Horn interception, and so Andy Dalton comes in. Tyrod Taylor
had come in taken over the second half. So you

(25:40):
have thirty six and a thirty seven year old quarterbacks,
not quite the Aaron Rodgers and Joe Flacco from from
last week, and you had a bunch of retirement right right, right.
But but I think it does tell you something a
little bit about the experience you have to have at
the quarterback position. You know, obviously Tyrod Taylor still is
you know, he still has some mobility. But this is

(26:00):
a seventh NFL team and with quarterbacks you see this
with Tom Brady and with Peyton Manning. Sometimes the physical
skills of the quarterback maybe honor is important later in
their careers, as the mental part isn't and knowing knowing
the angles and knowing what they have to do to
be successful.

Speaker 3 (26:17):
I think more importantly you know you're you're right about it.
Like the mental aspect of the quarterback position is the
absolute most important thing. Whether you're a vet, whether you're rookie,
no matter what, you have to understand the situational uh
parts of playing the quarterback position. But I think the
situation for the Carolina Panthers is healthy. We are we

(26:39):
we have healthy expectations right now, whereas the Jets don't
have any healthy expectations because for Tyrod, he's going in
there saying I have to go make a play, whereas
Dalton's going in there and saying I'm gonna take what
the defense gives me.

Speaker 7 (26:55):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (26:55):
So the first play in the fourth quarter, uh Rico'donnald
runs for a couple of yards, but it sets up
kind of a very methodical drive where Ricodonnald runs for
four yards and another big catch from Xavier Laguette for
fifteen yards. They marched all the way down to the
twenty nine yard line, and this is the play I

(27:15):
was talking about Earlierhe the Panthers didn't come away with points.
It was a big sack that brought them to the
forty yard line and they decided to punt there with
I think it was about eight eight, maybe just under
nine minutes to go in the game, so they decide
to punt it away. But that Drea I took up
eight took about six almost seven minutes on the clock.

Speaker 3 (27:35):
Yeah, I mean, whenever you're able to do that, you're
you're controlling the game, You're pacing the game. And obviously
we would love to come away with points there. No
matter what going forward, that has to be a learning
lesson as they get back to work this week, Hey guys,
this is something that we have to work on. We
have to work on crucial downs, doing our job and

(27:58):
making sure that we put ourselves in position to win.
But credit to you know, the New York Jets. You
know they drew They called that. That was a good
play called by them, you know, expecting you know, to
play there.

Speaker 2 (28:10):
Absolutely. And Steve Wilke's the former Panthers defensive coordinator interim coach,
the defensive coordinator for the Jets. So after that drive,
the Jets were able to march down, they get a
field goal, they make it thirteen to six, and then
Panthers basically go three and out. And then on the
second play of the drive, j C. Horns strikes again.

Speaker 7 (28:33):
Four receiver look, Panthers showing blitz here they come up.
Taylor Lobbs went down the right signs picked off, intercepted
by J. C.

Speaker 4 (28:41):
Horn his second pick of the day.

Speaker 2 (28:46):
And like chef's kiss on the it just finished off
a good a good game.

Speaker 3 (28:50):
Yeah, he basically ran the route for that guy. I
think Tyrod got confused.

Speaker 2 (28:56):
Well, you know what, it's it's unfortunate that somebody's paying
as somebody else's pleasure. But in this case, we'll take it.

Speaker 4 (29:01):
We'll take it.

Speaker 2 (29:01):
And you know, because obviously I'll be both teams for
different reasons needed. You know, this game was important, Panthers
had to kind of get off the schneid, get that
first road win. And you know, to your point, the
quarterback situations were completely different. Tyrod Taylor came in kind
of as a relief pitcher because the starter wasn't effective
and fields took a big hit in that game too. Yeah,

(29:23):
but you know, Andy Dalton, and this is why I
wanted to ask you. So this is probably the best
time to ask you. But how difficult is that? Right?
And it's you can make it for any position, but
especially for quarterback. I mean Andy Dalton. Obviously he's paying attention,
he's you know, he's involved in the game mentally. But
now all of a sudden, it's like, all right, Andy,
warm up, You're going in because Brice is out.

Speaker 3 (29:43):
Oh yeah, It's extremely difficult, but that's why they get
paid the big bucks, right, you know, the your emotions
run super high and then all of a sudden you're
being asked to play in the game. Yeah, So like
you have to figure out how am I going to
get myself mentally, like to the same level as the
guys that have been out there for this course of time.

(30:06):
They've been out there, hitting, sweating, beating up on guys
and getting beat up on. I'm going in there and
I have to figure out how am I going to
match that intensity in the play calling and the huddle
and all the above. So it is absolutely hard. So
Andy Dalton is a pro though he's been in these

(30:26):
situations before, and that's what that.

Speaker 4 (30:30):
That's why he is.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
He's he's a diamond piece for you know that depth,
you know, having a guy that has been there before.

Speaker 2 (30:40):
All right, well, the Jasey Horn. We're gonna combine the
two interceptions because those are our water burger. What a
moment of the game, grilling delicious food for seventy five years,
water burger just like you like it. And I feel
like Jasey probably needed a whatater burger after that, after
that game.

Speaker 3 (30:55):
He needs a water burger, a watermelon. He needs all
kinds of stuff.

Speaker 2 (30:59):
Everything he get into that get into his system. All Right,
we have more to come. We'll send it back to
East Rutherford. We have some interviews in the booth that
we're gonna get through. We have some more thoughts from
Jonathan Stewart will take a look at some of the
final stats and get you through the game. The postgame show.
Here Panthers with a big thirteen to six. When you
listen to the Carolina Panthers Radio network, BELK is a

(31:25):
proud partner of the Carolina Panthers and your hometown favored
in the fashion Game since eighteen eighty eight. At BELK,
you can score game day gear from over one hundred
teams shop brands like Adidas, Nike, and under Armour and
bring home the win with big deals and exclusive coupons.
Belk in the game since eighteen eighty eight. Well, I
know a guy that he scored big today. Even though

(31:46):
he didn't score, he played pretty well on defense. That's
nickcret And who had he got credited? I thought he
had was in on more tackles, credit for just two tackles,
but he had also was credited for a sack and
a half. And he is with Jim A, Niche and Luke.

Speaker 5 (32:00):
There are a lot of Panthers pick up the first
road victory of the season, third win in a row,
and the defense a big part of that. Six quarterback
sacks in this game, and Nick Gordon had one and
a half of those sacks for Carolina, the rookie joining
us now and Nick, what did it mean for the
defense to hold the Jets to six points in the
game of the way that you guys did it.

Speaker 6 (32:19):
I mean everything our main goal, you know, we don't
go out there and worry about the offense obviously, you know,
just have a really good defense. You know, we're trying
to go out compete those guys. We're trying to have
a better day than those guys. So you know the guys,
you know, giving up a little bit early and then
being stown the run, letting us get to the quarterback.
I mean, it was just it was amazing the defense
traveled today. You know, we got to win. It was
just amazing.

Speaker 7 (32:39):
Nick, the first two sacks of your career. Describe that feeling.

Speaker 6 (32:43):
Oh, I don't even know what to say. Man, just
just blessed, blessed. I'm super excited. I'm ready to keep
it going, ready to get rolling.

Speaker 8 (32:51):
Nick Luke. Here, it's kind of talk about pass rush,
playing against a guy like Justin Fields and then Tyrod
Taylor as he came in the game, those mobile quarterbacks
to like in practice during the week, getting ready for
guys like that.

Speaker 6 (33:03):
I mean, you obviously, you know a lot of power,
you know a lot of power, you know, trying to
get those guys to you know, stay in the pocket
and you know, make them throw the ball. But I mean,
you know, after you know, we do that so long
and you know we get them to stop running the ball.
I mean, now it's time to let our ears loose.
You know, we put a spy on them, and you
know we got to get after.

Speaker 8 (33:19):
Okay, go enjoy that music in the locker room. I
know what that feelings like. We're not going to keep
you too long.

Speaker 6 (33:24):
Go have fun, Yes, sir man, I appreciate you so much.

Speaker 8 (33:26):
All right, Nick.

Speaker 5 (33:27):
Gorton, big part of the We mentioned six sacks, two
by Derek Brown, we had three batted passes of J. C.

Speaker 1 (33:32):
Horn.

Speaker 5 (33:33):
It's two huge interceptions of the fourth quarter, all part
of the defense for the Panthers, and a thirteen to
six win on the road against the Jets. As we
send it back to chart and now with Mike and Johnathan.

Speaker 2 (33:43):
All right, so thank you very much and and excited
Nick Carton, Yeah, I'd love to be dancing in the
locker room right now. That sounds like a lot of fun.
I mean, obviously, uh And you know, road wins they're
not easy. They don't they don't come. They don't come
very easy. So this was certainly well deserved. The defense
held the Jets to just rushing So now what's that
at one hundred and thirty one yards in three games

(34:04):
out of the defense and maybe more importantly, keeping the
This is another game where they've kept the opponent hundred
yard rushing.

Speaker 4 (34:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (34:11):
You know, we talk about every week. I talk about
he's the victory. Run the ball, stop the run.

Speaker 2 (34:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (34:19):
Right, it's got to be at least two every Yeah.
And whenever you're able to, you know, buckle down and
do and do the gritty work.

Speaker 4 (34:29):
Right.

Speaker 3 (34:30):
The front seven for the last three weeks have played
really outstanding football. You're not going to make every stop,
but when it matters, you stick to your lanes and
you get your run fits in the secondary and you
make the offense have to play perfect football, and nobody

(34:50):
could play perfect.

Speaker 4 (34:50):
Football, right.

Speaker 2 (34:51):
And I think the other thing that Nick said it
was made perfect sense. You saw a play out like
once they forced the Jets to throw the ball, then
they were able to pin the rears back.

Speaker 3 (35:00):
Yeah, pin their ears back. We'll get after that's what
you do. That's what you got. That's basically going to
the candy store.

Speaker 4 (35:06):
Right.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
Well, in the old days, they would say, Katie bar
the door. If coaches still say that, But that's a
that's a big one. We'll take a time. I will
come back. We'll hear from coach Canalis. We also have
final thoughts from the guys in the booth and our
final thoughts as well, So more to come here on
the Panthers Postgame Show. A thirteen to six win for
the Carolina Panthers, their third win in a row, and

(35:29):
you're listening to Panthers football.

Speaker 1 (35:31):
Back to the Panthers Postgame Show live from Bank of
America Stadium, exclusively on the Carolina Panthers Radio Network.

Speaker 2 (35:44):
This Panthers season, Stay ice cold with Zippy Ice based
right here and Charlotte Tore the ice provider at Bank
of America Stadium, keeping your drinks and the Carolina Panthers
cool all game long. Zippy Ice, keeping Carolina cool, one
game at a time. And what's cool is the Panther
is getting a big win today, thirteen to six on
the road against the New York Jets, a really difficult team.

(36:06):
I know Sharon had mentioned this before when she talked
with Dave can Allison the pregame show. And you've seen this,
Jonathan too. Like a team that comes in with an
Owen whatever record it could be five and six, they're
extremely dangerous.

Speaker 3 (36:19):
Yeah, They're They're dangerous and desperate. Desperate is scary because
if you have the if there's the right formula in
any category on the other side of the ball, you
could be in for it.

Speaker 4 (36:34):
You can be in.

Speaker 3 (36:35):
For their best game. Their their their will just goes
through the roof a little bit on certain I mean
you see, I mean, look at Quentin Williams. You know,
he he played an outstanding football game in my opinion.
If he had that type of effort, or if the
Jets had that type of effort on the offensive side

(36:57):
of the ball, on the offensive line, you know, like you,
you would start to see a shift in that team
and eventually that will happen. Right, we see, we see
that with our play sure led by Derrick Brown on defense.
Hey no, I wasn't here last year. We'll let that slide, right,
I'm here, I'm back and healthy. This is how we.

Speaker 4 (37:18):
Operate, right, Let's go get it.

Speaker 3 (37:20):
And so you have a glue that that can get
things going like that. It can be scary for a
team that's zero and six, because at the end of
the day, this is a National Football League. Not everybody's
a bum.

Speaker 4 (37:32):
You know.

Speaker 3 (37:32):
These guys get paid contracts to go out there and perform,
and that's why it's the most beautiful game professionally. Any
given Sunday, things can go south or they can go
north yea.

Speaker 2 (37:45):
And you can see every year there's four or five
teams potentially more that are in the playoffs the next year,
when the year before they weren't. They weren't as good.
So Panthers are going to try and be one of
those teams. They went today thirteen to six. Let's end
it back to the Metal ends with Jim Luke in
a niche and there with coach Canalos.

Speaker 5 (38:01):
All right, guys, welcome back to the Metal Lands. We're
joined by the head coach Dave Canalis.

Speaker 6 (38:05):
Nap.

Speaker 5 (38:05):
After the first road victory of the season, third consecutive
win for this team, and so many heroes and moments
in this game, coach, but to take it to the
end there, you guys had a decision to make, and
it was to throw the ball deep to Xavier Leaguet
who comes up with it off of the Andy Dalton
throw for a thirty three yarder. That was kind of
the closing moment out of the bullpen there. It took

(38:26):
a lot to make a decision like that, but it
was executed so well and you feel great for Exavier.
That was a great way to finish off a terrific
win here absolutely.

Speaker 9 (38:34):
I just love the games where all units have to
contribute to the win. Got to talk about the coverage
units getting the guys down on a really special return
group from the Jets, and then for Trevor Yetzien, just
fielding the balls on those punts, getting us some extra yards,
you know, giving us a good field position in those spots.
The defense certainly shining today with the sacks and the
two interceptions by JC, and then the offense finding our

(38:56):
wins early, doubling down, you know, scoring right before the half,
scoring when we came out it, being able to get
those critical points that were the difference, you know, and
just clutch performances by guys, focusing and finishing by doing
right longer.

Speaker 7 (39:08):
Coach Derek Brown, we know what kind of player he
can be when he's healthy. Is he now maybe at
the top of the conversation for best interior d lineman
in the NFL.

Speaker 9 (39:18):
I've certainly always felt that way about him, coaching against him,
and now you know, being on the same side of it,
you know, just to see him healthy and to see
him working with that group, you know, he certainly inspires
a lot of just work, ethic and hustle and you know,
the dynamic plays, you know, getting two sacks, today's phenomenals.

Speaker 8 (39:33):
Just great to see him out there coach again. I
you know, I asked Nick Scorton about this, but I'm
gonna ask you as well. Just I thought one of
the things coming into this game was how do we
contain justin fields and his ability to scramble. And then
obviously Tyrod Taylor in the game kind of about talk
about Todd Wash and that group, and as Giero everro,
putting a plan together that allowed these guys to rush

(39:54):
with freedom but also keep themselves in their lanes and
play with discipline.

Speaker 9 (39:57):
Yeah, it did require a lot of discipline, and there
wasn't a aproach to it, and a game plan for
the known past situations and then the you know, the
gun zone, read the run game, the different you know
things that they had that that are really challenging. But
the guys really just executed the plan and uh, you know,
for the most part, kept him in there, kept him
in the pocket, and forced them to have to hand
the ball off to the backs. And you know, we're

(40:18):
we're stout in the inside, you know, and so if
we can force that handoff, then we give ourselves a
chance that way.

Speaker 5 (40:23):
Coach you mentioned, uh we mentioned, I said, and Andy
Dalton come in and finishing out the game from the
late third quarter on what's kind of the initial word
on what's going on with Bryce Young right now?

Speaker 9 (40:32):
Yeah, it's an ankle. We'll do a full evaluation and
see where we're at. You know, was it was not
to a point where we felt we can put them
back out there today, But we'll reevaluate it and we'll
have more information on that.

Speaker 7 (40:42):
Hey, coach, I'll leave you with this. At one point,
Luke said, looks like j. C. Horn is bored out
there because nobody was throwing to him, and then they
started to throw to him.

Speaker 8 (40:51):
We saw what happened.

Speaker 9 (40:52):
Describe Jc's play, Yeah, clutch play, just do right longer,
you know, being in position, and then just the ball skills,
you know, to be able to I'm up with the
catches on those you know, as a dominant receiver on
those plays where all of a sudden the ball's up
and like you know, he's bigger and faster and he's
got great hands and just to be able to you know,
come through for his teammates and those situations giving us
a chance to end the game on the second drive

(41:14):
to last, but then just you know, Mike Jack coming
up with some clutch plays as well to give us
one more shot to get a first down and end it.

Speaker 5 (41:21):
All right, Coach Dave Canals, thank you for your time.
Congratulations on the win.

Speaker 4 (41:25):
All right, thanks guys.

Speaker 5 (41:25):
All Right, Dave Canal iss stair as we send it
back to Mike and Jonathan.

Speaker 2 (41:28):
All Right, thank you very much. Joke and I, you know,
obviously the news part of that was just what we
expected was they're gonna kind of evaluate Bryce. We probably
won't know anything more until Monday, maybe even Wednesday this
week when they go through all the tests and do
all the medical stuff.

Speaker 3 (41:43):
Yeah, you know, I think that was the right call.
Whenever you're playing the AFC opponent, this is not a
division game, this isn't this isn't your conference. In my opinion,
you know, don't force getting your starter back out there,
especially when you're defense is playing away they were playing. Yeah,
So luckily we do have a team that we talked

(42:05):
about earlier being able to play conflimentary football, which means,
you know, next man up mentality. We trust the guys
that back up our starters and we expect them to
go in there and execute.

Speaker 2 (42:18):
All right, let's pause ten seconds for station identification. This
is the Carolina Panthers Radio Network. All right, more to
come here on the Panthers postgame show. So final thoughts
from the guys in the booth. Couple things is Jonathan
and I are going to talk about in this game,
and then we'll have our final thoughts our sunbelt hardest
working player of the game as well, and then we'll
say goodnight after that. But of course, coming up next

(42:39):
for the Panthers a big test with the Buffalo Bills
coming in next Sunday. That'll be a one o'clock start
here at Bank of America Stadium. Panthers winning today in
the Medallands thirteen to six. This is the Carolina Panthers
Radio Network. Like Pachigo, Jonathan's story with you here paired

(43:02):
this post game show after carolina Is thirteen to six
win against the Jets in the Metal Lands. This injury
report brought to you by Atrium Health, doing more to
keep you moving, achieving, striving at every age and stage
so you can live fully. I fully subscribe to Atrium
Health because I need to. At my age, I need
to keep moving. So that's that's for sure. That's exactly right.

(43:24):
But obviously Bryce Young was the kind of the big injury.
We'll obviously get more information on that. On Monday, came
out of the game and was replaced by Andy Dalton.
Looked like he got kind of stepped on the back
of his ankle, and then Princely Muna Mellen. He kind
of came in back and forth a couple of times,
but finished the game. So obviously he'll be monitored because,

(43:44):
as you know, I've been doing this long enough. Sometimes
you come out of a game and everything seems fine,
but it's that next morning when you guys wake up
and you're like, wait a minute, what's this right, Mike.

Speaker 3 (43:54):
Yeah, and the plane ride too, right, you're in a plane,
luckily they're not too far from home, but you're playing.
Your body actually swells up with you in the air.
So a lot of those things don't calm down until Tuesday,
and you don't really know how you feel until Tuesday.

Speaker 4 (44:10):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (44:10):
You know, you have the painkillers that are in your
body that are willing you to you know, adjust and
perform under you know, the injuries that you already do have,
and guys are out there battling through that that type
of pain.

Speaker 4 (44:25):
So uh, to.

Speaker 3 (44:27):
That point, we don't you don't really know what to expect.
And and for Bryce Young to be you know, kept
out of this game today, it could be more or
less as far as like, hey, we don't want to
worse then this, as far as like what we do
know now, for what we for all we do know,
it could be actually worse tomorrow. So let's just you know,
bring him back in and and let Dalton take the

(44:49):
rest of the game. And but yeah, looking at you know,
Pat Jones last week, you know, we didn't really know
what to expect.

Speaker 4 (44:59):
We didn't.

Speaker 2 (44:59):
I didn't know he got hurt, right, I didn't expect
him to be out for the season after that game. Yeah,
And it's like what we were talking on Sunday night,
I didn't expect that.

Speaker 3 (45:06):
Yeah, I didn't expect it. But you know, you wake
up in the morning and then all of a sudden,
it's like, wait, my body, it's something yesterday, and now
the inflammation's moved around, and now it's my body's settled
and I'm hurt. I can't move. I've woken up many
a times, one time specifically in Atlanta my last year

(45:27):
here in in in Carolina, the last regular season game,
and we're in Atlanta. I wake up in the hotel
and Ryan Vermillion I had to call him to get
me out of bed because I couldn't get out of
bed simply my back just.

Speaker 4 (45:42):
Locked up right. Oh man, So and it was time
for me to retire.

Speaker 2 (45:47):
Yeah, yeah, that's that's a good sign for that, you know.
So obviously, you know, Bryce's health is gonna be a
big storyline. The you know, getting the fourth win, first
road wind, that's a huge storyline. I think the other
big storyline is the combo, the tandem of ric O'Donnell
and Cuba Hubbard. Cuba got the start and it was,
as we talked at the beginning of the broadcast, it

(46:07):
was very much almost on schedule where they basically alternated
every series and then there was that, you know, the
one series where Rico came out and but I think
this is this is I think this plan needs time
to to grow a little bit because I think, you know,
I was hearing from some some fans during the game like, hey, wait, know,
Rico's got all these yards, you know, maybe time to

(46:30):
just give him the rock and I was like, wait
a minute, like you gotta let this. You know, First
of all, this first came back from injury Cuba Hubbard,
and they were also facing a very stout defensive line.
It wasn't like it was a bunch of scrubs.

Speaker 3 (46:41):
Yeah, this wasn't you know, Tuba got a lot of
the inside runs, you know, earlier on the game. You
got a fresh defense that you're going against again. Quentin
Williams is on the other side, so if you ever
want to, you know, size yourself up, go stand next
to him, you know.

Speaker 4 (46:55):
But we also have a Derek Brown on our side.

Speaker 3 (46:57):
So offensive line is used to singing like that, but
doesn't mean that you'll have you won't have troubles against
certain teams, and the Jets was just one of those.
Got was one of those matchups where early on, you know,
you hit the wall and you expect it just just
to fall like we have been the last two games.

(47:18):
That defensive front is a lot better than the Dolphins,
a lot better than the Dallas Cowboys, and so this
was one of those games where we also had an
injury with Damian Lewis. Now we have Austin Corbett playing
left guard. He has to adjust sure, right, So there's
a lot of adjustments that need to be made. And
as far as the play calling for you know, for

(47:40):
Rico Daldo and for Troupa Hubbard, you know, I think
Canela sees them, you know, as far as what their
strengths are and what their weaknesses are, and so he's
gonna call certain plays depending on who's in the game. Right,
So I think we got to see you know, what
Rico's actually good at. He's good at getting outside, he's
good at bouncing it, the toss plays, whatever it is.

Speaker 4 (48:02):
Get him in space.

Speaker 3 (48:04):
We would like to see that with Tuba too, right,
get him in space, because he does he does very
similar things. They both run very hard, they put one
foot in the ground and they get north and south.
So for everyone that's out there, that is like you know,
calling for heads. Look, the stats are seventeen carriers for
seventy nine yards four point six yards per carry. Rico Dawdle,

(48:25):
he had some chunk plays. You have Tuba Hubbard fourteen
carriers for thirty one yards. He was the guy that
went in there and basically said, all right, let's do
the lab test.

Speaker 1 (48:35):
Right.

Speaker 3 (48:35):
So, so as far as testing the testing, you know,
the line of scrimmage, you know, with the inside runs.
We did that very early in the game and we
didn't really open it up until later. And so those
types of runs are called for the short yard you know,
three yard games here, two yard game there, beat up
on the defense and they would be able to stretch him.

Speaker 2 (48:57):
Well. I think the other thing that's interesting too is
just formatically, you know, you don't have to comfort two
really strong running backs. If you're like the Buffaloes, you
have to worry about two guys instead of one. And
maybe how does that affect their preparation? Right?

Speaker 3 (49:11):
Yeah, their preparation is going to be Okay, we can't
take a playoff, right, Uh, third down? I mean nowadays, man,
you're on your own thirty third and one, expect the
fourth and one.

Speaker 2 (49:24):
Yeah, we don't.

Speaker 3 (49:26):
If we don't, if we knock on the door and
we don't get it the first time, we're gonna run
it again. We might even change the running back out. Yeah, okay,
So the extending drives and when you're playing with the lead,
that's where it's scary. Right, So Carolina Panther has played
with the lead today and you're you have the ability

(49:47):
to exchange running backs in and out, finding the right
finding the hot hand. And that's what we were able
to do today. We're able to find the hot hand.
The hot hand today was Rico Daudo. Next week, it
could be true of Hubbard, right, And that's the beauty
in it. You be able to find the guy that's
hot every single week. You'll have two chances.

Speaker 2 (50:04):
And it's good to have that patience too. And you
know that's why the coaches get paid the big bucks.
You know, they have to figure out kind of in
the course of the game, like what's working, what's not working,
and you know, kind of take it from there.

Speaker 3 (50:15):
Yeah, and it's a it's a it's a game of
trust for the offensive coordinator. I mean they're calling players
and hoping that the players show up and execute. And
you know, certain players execute better than the others, certain
players execute under certain conditions better than the others. Uh,
this is a it was an away game. Uh, this
was this was this would have been Rico's first start

(50:39):
away for the Carolina Panthers. Now he's been a starter
all you know at Dallas, so he's had the experience.
But as far as the comfort with this, this group
and whatnot. I think Truba was the comfort place there,
you know, to begin the game with.

Speaker 2 (50:54):
All right, well, take a quick time out here from
Bank of America Stadium with Jonathan Stewart. I am Mike Pachico.
We come back, we'll send it back out to the
Metal Lands. We'll get the final thoughts from Jim Aniche
and Luke Wilso have our final thoughts and quick look
ahead to Buffalo coming up as well. That'll be the Panthers'
next opponent next Sunday. That'll be at one o'clock. So
we'll take a quick time out here. Panthers winning thirteen

(51:16):
to six. Today, you're listening to Panthers Football.

Speaker 1 (51:19):
Back to Mike Pachico live from Bank of America Stadium.
We have more of the Panthers postgame show exclusively on
the Carolina Panthers Radio Network.

Speaker 2 (51:33):
Mike and Jonathan with you here at Bank of America Stadium.
Panthers winning today thirteen to six, gets the Jets at
MetLife Stadium in the Metal Lands. And then of course
coming up next it'll be Buffalo. We'll talk about that
a little bit later.

Speaker 1 (51:44):
Here.

Speaker 2 (51:44):
They're coming off. They're on a bye week this week's
it'll be coming off the bi and now the Panthers
not only have they won three straight, but they've won
now four in their last five games. That's pretty important.
Let's send it back out to the Metal Lands and
get the final thoughts from Jim Luke and a Niche.

Speaker 5 (52:00):
Panthers taken care of a lot of things today, first
road win of the season, third victory in a row
that doesn't happen very often. Obviously, figured out a way
to use their running back tandem. Wasn't the biggest of
numbers today, but got the job done there. Had to
go through two quarterbacks to get the win as well.
A Niche and then Xavier Loget. I think we're all
smiling when we made that big catch at the end

(52:20):
because of the win that it was sealing at that
point to thirty three yarder, but for the man individually
as well, nine grabs ninety two yards and we'll get
into the defensive stuff with Luke here in a minute too,
but to kind of take that it was kind of
a nice human moment at the end to have that
confidence and xavierly get to come up with that big
grab down at the stretch, trying to kind of seal it.

Speaker 7 (52:37):
Yeah, in a game where there wasn't a lot of
offense from both teams, Leaguett was the biggest offensive star
on the field. Nine catches ninety two yards career highs
for him and then he makes the catch at the
end to seal the game. He had a couple of
other big catches as well through the course of this game.
And to see his confidence grow and if he can
be that other receiver to compliment Tedroll McMillan, it goes

(52:58):
a long way for this offense. You had to fight
through adversity. Bryce Young goes down with an ankle injury.
Andy Dalton comes in and you know, again didn't lead
the Panthers to any scoring drives, but he was a
steady hand back there made that throw at the end
to essentially seal the game. This was a game where
things didn't always go perfectly with the Panthers did a

(53:21):
couple of things right, Luke. I thought one was they
didn't beat themselves no turnovers. They won the turnover battle,
and I just think it's a big step to win
on the road. People can point to the Jets record
and who the Jets are. This was not about the Jets.
This was about a team that is gaining momentum taking
the next step, which was winning on the road.

Speaker 8 (53:39):
Oh absolutely, And to come up here and everyone's gonna
say it was against the Jets hadn't one yet this year,
but we hadn't proven that we could win on the road.
For us to come out here, like you said, and
play a clean game and get contributions from guys that
we don't typically get him from. Obviously, we've been looking
for Xavier to get to really pop. He did that today.
And then just seeing guys step up and get back

(54:00):
in the game action that had been gone for a
while that we miss having. I love seeing Austin Corbett
back in the game. And Sharon talked about Corbett kind
of getting those guys ready to go back on the field. Hey,
we need to go put a draft together. That's what
we love to see from Austin Corba. Just a good
veteran presence of calming presence and motivating presence. And then
I'll tell you what. Nick Scordon is a guy that
I've really enjoyed watching effort, toughness, and you can love that,

(54:23):
you can tell that he just loves playing football. And
then prince lyumanmiel And was battle on a back, but
was active, got back in the game, competed, and you know,
and then you split carries with Rico and Cheuba, those
both those guys contributed and then Andy coming in at
the end of the game and making that big, confident throw.
And I have a lot of confidence in Canalis showing Hey,

(54:44):
I believe in the offensive line, I believe in Andy,
I believe in our receivers. We're gonna go out and
win this game. And I think as a player, you
look at how does your coach treat the game, And
at the end of the game, to me, it said, hey,
Dave Canaos is here to win. Dave Canaos believes in
the guys on his team, and we just have to
keep things moving in the right direction.

Speaker 7 (55:00):
We're watching a team learn how to win games in
different ways. That's the side of an improving team. That's
the sign of good teams.

Speaker 5 (55:08):
The offense did enough, and then the defense had to
do a little bit above and beyond. When you hold
a team to six points, I don't care who they are,
and other Jets are struggling, but you pay guys for
a certain reason. Derek Brown today, seven combined tackles led
the team tied for that lead, had two sacks, three
batted passes at J. C. Horn who you paid last year,
as well two huge interceptions in the fourth quarter. So

(55:30):
as Luke Benchi got some of the young draft picks
stepping up having some great moments there, and then the
guys that you've invested in that are gonna be your
core guys coming through defensively there, Luke, it's it's a
nice combination of guys in the way that Gero Rivero
can now kind of implement what he wants to deploy
out there defensively.

Speaker 8 (55:45):
I think the Derek Brown thing, I think we I
think we forgot how special he was when he wasn't
when he was when he was out last year. We
in the back of our minds we always said, yeah,
wait till we get Derek back. Derek's a really good
player for us. But he just he's everywhere all the time.
He's active. He chases guys down and some of those
tackles where he was hitting Tyrod on the sideline, he

(56:06):
was hitting justin fields on the sideline. Most guys will
just go run that guy. Run the quarterback out of
bounds and bump him and run back to huddle. Derek
Brown is trying to get a piece of somebody every play,
and that's a mentality, that's a mindset. When these young
defensive linemen come in, Cam Jackson comes in, Princely and
Nick Gordon come in, they're looking to older guys to
see what's acceptable. How do we do things here? How

(56:29):
are we going to play with? What kind of effort intensity?
And when the biggest dude on your team literally physically
physically is running, chasing guys down, diving, making contact. Three
batted passes, two sacks, seven tackles, that's the standard and
that's what's acceptable. So we missed Derek a lot last
year for a lot of reasons, but a lot of
it is just that veteran presence that he has that Hey,

(56:51):
this is how we're going to do things moving forward,
and this is what we expect from our defensive line.

Speaker 5 (56:54):
All Right, they all showed up today, a nische Lucas
a lot of flight out here along with Sharon thirteen
to six. Final score has three wins in a row,
first road wind for the Panthers. As we said it,
back to Charlotte now for Mike and Jonathan.

Speaker 2 (57:05):
All right, so thank you very much. And I think
what's the interesting overtone I think that you take out
of this right, it's just I think a Niche said
it too, is like just creating that culture and you were,
you were part of a culture change here. How difficult
is it when because you saw some pretty bad teams
before things got successful, uner, Ron Rivera.

Speaker 3 (57:26):
Yeah, you need a mixture of talent, right, You have
to have the right guys. You know, we we were
blessed with Cam Newton, who blessed helps right during that
culture shift, you know, Ron Rivera coming in and being
able to have Cam on the offensive side of the ball.
And then you got you add additions like Luke Heakley

(57:48):
right on the defensive side of the ball. But you
already have the pillars around. You had me, you had DiAngelo,
We added Mike Tolbert, We had Jordan Gross, we had
Ryan lil We had guys that exemplified Greg Olsen, that
exemplified excellence, right, and excellence that looked different than me.

(58:12):
It was we right, we have to play to this
level in order for us to win games. I loved
what Niche said there about Derek Brown, or what Luke
said about Derek Brown is it's a mentality, right. How
do you practice? How do you study film? What do
you do on your time off? Are you are you

(58:33):
in treatment? Are you working to get better to get back.

Speaker 4 (58:37):
On the field?

Speaker 3 (58:38):
Do you want to be on the field because if
you don't, it shows right throughout the week. And having
guys like Derrick Brown to be the example chasing guys
out of the bounds, but not just chasing them, letting
run out of bounds. I want to get a look
on you before you go, right, you owe me rent.
You owe me rent because you're on my land right,

(59:00):
so you might as well just you know that that's
the standard. And so for Nick Corton, for these for Princely,
for all the rookies, Thornton. To see that type of
effort day in and day out, that's changing the culture.

Speaker 2 (59:15):
And the difference between hoping you win a game to
expect expecting it to win.

Speaker 4 (59:18):
Yep, that's I.

Speaker 2 (59:19):
Think we're heading that territory right now. Panthers winning today
thirteen to six. We'll come back and get our final thoughts,
close it out and get you ready for the next
game come over, which will Buffalo next Sunday. Here at
Bank of America Stadium, you are listening to Panthers football.

Speaker 1 (59:33):
The Panthers postgame Show continues live from Bank of America Citio,
exclusively on the Carolina Panthers Radio Network.

Speaker 2 (59:45):
Panther is winning today thirteen to six on the road
at the Metal Ends, first road win of the season.
Now Panthers have won three straight, four out of their
last five. Getting ready for Buffalo coming up on Sunday
here at Bank of America Stadium. It'll be one o'clock kickoff.
But you know, you and I were talking in the break, Jonathan,
and I think one of the things that really stood
out late in the game was a huge play that

(01:00:08):
the Xavier la Get made, and it was the Panthers
basically going going for the win in that spot.

Speaker 3 (01:00:14):
Yeah, you know you have Dave Canela's you know, you
can go different route here, try to win the game.
You can run the clock out and play it safe.
You know, maybe a short pass just for the first down.
But hey, look what we're gonna do. We're gonna catch
you slipping and we're gonna throw a bomb to xavierer
Get on third and eight and that to me screams,

(01:00:37):
We're here to play to win, We're not playing to
not lose. And that's the difference between the Carolina Panthers.

Speaker 4 (01:00:46):
This year and previous years.

Speaker 3 (01:00:48):
You have players that you can depend on for you
to make those aggressive types of calls to play to win.
Xavier ly Get was in his what was he had
a career day, and so you take advantage of that,
You take advantage of a player that's in a zone
and you say, hey, we've been depending on you throughout
this course of the game, and we're gonna call your

(01:01:08):
number to seal it. And that was a beautiful call
by Dave knelas gutsy and I love it.

Speaker 2 (01:01:14):
It was great. The nine catches ninety two yards for
Xavier Logett, Bryce Sung was fifteen of twenty five hundred
and thirty eight yards with a touchdown, and more importantly,
both he and Andy Dalton no interceptions. And it's interesting
because sometimes you might hear something from a coach over
and over again, and you know it either becomes ingrained
or you tune it out. And in this case, Panther's

(01:01:36):
really a bought into the mantra that Dave Canals has
set up. Really the last two years is protecting the football.

Speaker 3 (01:01:42):
Yeah, it's all about the ball. Can't play football without
a football. But more importantly, if you take care of
the ball, meaning the quarterbacks. You know, if you're dropping
back in the pocket and you're scrambling two hands on
the ball, caring for the ball like it's not it's
not a loaf of bread, right, you know, it is
the most valuable thing that's on the field.

Speaker 4 (01:02:05):
And as long as you have.

Speaker 3 (01:02:06):
It and you possess it, the longer that you possess
it more than the other team, and the more that
you put it across that goal line or through the
field goal post, you win, right.

Speaker 2 (01:02:16):
And then protecting the ball but also stripping the ball
from the other team, which leads us into our hardest
working Player of the Game, presented by sun Belt Reynolds,
the official Renold quipment partner of the Carolina Panthers, and
we were both in agreement. Although Xavierly was an awesome candidate,
jac Horn not only the two picks, but they were
impactful in the time in which he made.

Speaker 3 (01:02:35):
Those picks, crucial moments in the game where you gotta
have it now. We call it you gotta have it
now type plays, and you know, defensive coordinators putting your
guys in position to be able to make those plays,
anticipating what the offense is going to do, and lo
and behold let things fall into your lap. And that's

(01:02:57):
exactly what J. C. Horn did throughout the whole of
the game. You heard Luke talk about how man he
must be bored. When you're a bored defensive back, that's
a good problem to have because that means they fear you, right,
But when you're when it is time for you to
shine and they do try you, you can't go to sleep.
And he did not go to sleep. He was absolutely awake.

Speaker 2 (01:03:19):
Well, need to reopen Thieves Avenue?

Speaker 4 (01:03:21):
Yeah, I think it's already open.

Speaker 2 (01:03:23):
Well, you know, it's like but it's like in like
the Marvel movies, right like when the the Avengers are
down on their luck and all of a sudden, like
the light starts to flicker a little bit. You know,
that's the Thieves Avenue lights flicking right now. Well, and
then the task doesn't get much easier. You have another
AFC East opponent, but you have one of the top
teams in the AFC, one of the top teams in
the AFC as a whole, not just the AFC East,

(01:03:45):
but the Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen. That's a very
talented team coming in and of course there's a lot
of ties obviously between the two franchises too.

Speaker 3 (01:03:52):
Yeah, they used to call it Panther North, right, Yeah,
Josh Allen and the Bills. You know, this is a,
in my opinion, need a make or break year for them.
They've been so close and on that that hill for
so long of trying to get over the hump, right,
and you know, this is a game to them probably

(01:04:14):
where it's like, hey, we're gonna test to see how
good we really are. They just came off of Atlanta
Falcons loss and in a fashion that you know, Drake
London went for one hundred and over one hundred and
fifty yards receiving. Bijon Robinson had a day. So they
put on film more importantly for the Carolina Panthers to

(01:04:36):
look at and say, hey, this is how we can
get them. Yeah, okay, and right now we are playing
the style of football that's believable. And so if I'm
the Buffalo Bills, I fear the Panthers.

Speaker 2 (01:04:50):
Oh, definitely, no doubt about it. Great job today, Johnathon,
it was fun working with you again.

Speaker 4 (01:04:53):
It was a great time.

Speaker 2 (01:04:54):
All right. Next game is Sunday. It's gonna be October
twenty sixth, Bank America Stadium against the Bills. At the
Stadium show, we'll be at ten am on the Fox.
