Speaker 1 (00:03):
Brettan with the Panthers postgame show exclusively on the Carolina
Panthers Radio Network.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Well, so much for a wedding streak that didn't go,
that did not go as planned. Today, along with Gene Robinson,
Mike Pachico, Brett McMillan live at Bank of America Stadium,
Panthers fall to the Patriots today forty two thirteen. It
started off as those promised guys. The opening drive right
down the field. The Panthers score, beautiful drive, seven plays,
(00:33):
seventy six yards. Bryce Young was four for four. Everything
was looking great. But then special teams happened. Special teams happened.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
My goodness, what's talking about something that changes the complexion
of a game?
Speaker 4 (00:46):
That one special teams playing seemed.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
To just go ahead and unravel all the goodness that
happened for the Carolina Panthers earlier.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
My goodness.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
I I did not expect coming up of this, you know,
the beatdown that we did with the Falcons. I had
no idea that this would be the outcome. I thought
that it would be competitive, but no doubt. I thought
that the Carolina Panthers would surely come on top. And
Brett cheek that did not happen at all, not even close.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Eighty seven yard putt returned for a touchdown, sixty one
yard putt return to the fourteen yard line sets up
a touchdown, and then uh in the second half. Yeah, yeah,
that was just the first time. This was the first half, right,
And in the second half, another punt return that got
the Patriots down to what the twenty yard line, nineteen
(01:38):
yard return that got them to the forty one yard
line right before the fourth quarter started, which then you know,
gave him another short field for another touchdown.
Speaker 5 (01:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
And don't forget the punter had to dive out and
hit the return as foot. Yeah, if not, it would
have it would go a touchdown from there.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
I mean it was.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
Yeah, this was a solid VIC three on the other side.
And here's here's the crazy thing. When I'm looking at
the stats, When I look at the stats and see
how we're dominating the staffs, you would think that we
were dominating the game and dominating the score with time
of possession, with yardage, with every every stat. I'm like,
we're winning, but we're not winning the major stat which
(02:17):
is the points on the board.
Speaker 6 (02:19):
And the other miscues on special teams uh, miss Pat
and a missed field goal. I mean after that missed Pat,
the Patriots would score forty two unanswered points until that
late touchdown in the fourth one.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
That is absolutely incredible. I had no idea.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
I think a lot of Panther fans are shocked because
they had no idea that the performance that we saw
today would be the performance.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
Not at all. I'm baffled.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
Well, and the Panthers, the first four times they had
the ball, they took the ball into New England territory, Yes,
and only cable was one touchdown.
Speaker 6 (02:53):
Yeah, that's it. I think it was seven times, and
they scored twice.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Yeah, in the entire game. But I mean the first
four times they had the ball they took it into
the New England's territory and only came away with one touchdown. Now,
we did ask the question at one point. I think
the Panthers got down to the forty yard line and
we're going, yeah, kicking. Well, then they tried a fifty
five yard field goal later on and it came up
well short. Yeah, it would have been right also, but
(03:18):
that's beside the point. But so clearly Dave Canalis knows
more about the kicking range than I do. But I mean,
but he did hit a fifty five yard last week.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
So I think it was fifty seven yard seven yard. Yeah, No,
I was screaming for the same thing. I was like, yeah,
kick the field goal. I mean, let your guy get
out there. And and typically one the coaches when they're
when they're making that determination, they see what his range
is during warmups and they they judge it based on
(03:48):
on that. And so you know, I'm not gonna you know,
I'm not gonna second guess coach Canalis on that.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
What I thought was.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
Glaringly obvious to me is that Drake Mays was eating
our zones up, like just throwing behind the zone and
uh and and I thought that, really I thought that
we were going to be able to play more pressure
on the on the quarterback. But there were a number
of four men rush, four men rush as opposed to
(04:16):
the five six and really getting after Drake May. And
I thought that we would, you know, coach of gerro
would said, Hey, let's get into this guy's face, Let's
make him throw off the spot, let's make him move,
let's let's make him be a mobile quarterback. Wi you
you know, where we can go ahead and spy guy
and go get him. But that wasn't the case. And
because of that, I thought that Drake May was just
(04:38):
picking us apart. I mean, he was just having this
pick back there behind you know, behind the linebackers and
be and in front of the safeties. I was like, Wow,
this guy looks like he's Joe Montana right now.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
And so I.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
Don't know, as you know, my defensive back stuff that's
going on in my head. I'm like, man, get after
this guy, get after this guy. And it seemed like
we had no answer for.
Speaker 6 (04:59):
Him, as much as the opposite was true last week,
you know against Michael Penicks. Yes, they kept getting him
off his body. Can then get comfortable. He wasn't really
making you know, they forced him into not making good throws.
And then you have Drake May to your point. You know,
growing up in New England, I would say they made
him look like Tom Brady. But yes, you get the point.
(05:19):
But think about this right, two hundred three yards passing
for Drake May. That's about fourteen and a half yards
per completion.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
It's baffling. I mean, he threw some really nice passes.
There's no doubt about that.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
That one.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
I thought the digs of that back shoulder fade against
Jack Jackson Jackson on the side, I thought that was
one of the one of the best best passes because
I mean, the only one who can see it is
is Stefan Diggs, and he's gonna make the nice adjudctment
on the back shoulder, and so I was like, well,
that's a good play. But with all that said, there
were a number of zones where there's a couple of
(05:55):
guys on his own, but there's a guy behind and
he's throwing a guy to the guy behind, and we
got breaking up on a guy in front, you know,
And I'm like, oh, this classic thing. There's always a
guy behind you. There's always somebody behind you. So from
that to that point, I just thought that, man, they
just seemed to outplay us a little bit, and I
was hoping for more pressure on the quarterback, but I
(06:17):
didn't see that happening.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
Do you think that they just outplayed the Panthers today
or did they show the Panthers some stuff that the
Panthers didn't.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
See in the game film. I can't imagine that the
Panthers didn't see. Out of the four games, three games
that they had prior to this and now this game,
that they hadn't seen everything they were going to see.
I don't think there was nothing at all that you know,
the Patriots. Don't forget the Patriots was struggling. The Patriots
were one and two. Yes, you know, the Patriots.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
Hadn't also lost again at Pittsburgh last year week when
they turned the ball over five times.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
So the Patriots were in the same little funk that
we were in earlier, and so I don't see that
they would want something super duper or something something that
was kind of like, you know, earth shattering and record breaking.
Speaker 7 (07:07):
No.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
I mean they they came out and lined up and
you heard Luke Keickley. Sometimes they ran power, sometimes they
did some misdirection and through to the backside to the
tight end. Those are all plays that we know. It's
not like this something that's out of the ordinary. So no,
So to your point, absolutely not. I don't think that
coach Canalys was thrown off guard at all. I did
(07:29):
see some mistackles and I did see some bad edges
on the defense. I did see some plays like that
which we saw that the first two weeks we didn't
see that against the Falcons game, I did see some mistackles,
so I saw those reoccur in this game the other day.
Speaker 6 (07:44):
To me, it was a snowball game, right, I mean,
the snowball kept getting bigger and it kept rolling faster
down the hill. And that's I think what kind of
doomed the Panthers. I think they just kind of got
back on the hills and then couldn't do what they
wanted to. I mean they still were able to run
the ball, Okay, yeah, and had the game been closer,
you know, it's a different story. But I think you know,
you have the special teams miss cues and all of
(08:05):
a sudden, you know, you go into halftime and it
was like, you know, they've been in three rounds with
Mike Tyson and didn't have it.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
And that's almost uncharacteristic.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
We talk about the special teams miscues of the putt return,
the putt returns, and then we were talking about the
miss extra point and then the missfield goal.
Speaker 4 (08:22):
I don't expect that from the Carolina Panther team at all.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
Well, we do have a what a burger, what a
moment of the game, and it came in the opening
trive grilling delicious food for seventy five years. What a
burger just like you like it?
Speaker 7 (08:38):
Young, get out of the shotguns wins right, renfro to
the left. Hubbard is the running back. Bryce takes the
bell tie staff, looking left, throws back the corner of
the end zone, caught for a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
And that was the opening drive of the game. That
made it six nothing, and it stayed six to nothing.
In his extra point attempt, pank off the upright and
away and after that that was nothing. Them completely changed
and everything went.
Speaker 4 (09:04):
There was nothing after that that you can see at all.
Nothing after that.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
All right, Well, still ahead here of the show, we'll
hear from head coach Dave Canallis, get his thoughts on
what happened today. We'll also have highlights from the game,
and we'll catch up today and everything else going along
in the National Football League. This is the Carolina Panthers
or Radio Network. Hey, welcome back to the Panthers postgame show.
(09:31):
Hampers fall to the Patriots today forty two to thirteen,
wrap it up the first quarter of the season with
a one end three year record. And this drive around
the League brought to you by the Honta Dealers of
the Carolina So Mike, just about everything final from the
early games. Just two still going on. So what do
we got?
Speaker 6 (09:52):
Weave the Eagles and the Eagles and the Buccaneers. Right now,
Tampa Bay looks like they go this game thirty one
twenty three. Letscore right now, Eagles have the ball and
they just brought some serious pressure on mayfield.
Speaker 3 (10:06):
It was a fourth and ten play and the Eagles
brought up some pressure and with a couple of stunts
right in the face move Baker made out of the spot,
had to throw across his body. That makes something happen
and then the defensive back comes up makes a nice
easy tackle.
Speaker 6 (10:23):
Giants just went final. They hang on against the La
Chargers twenty one, sixteen to the final. In that game,
and Giants actually had a really tough injury in the
first half with Malik Neighbors, you know, the very talented
wide receiver going down with a knee injury. Early reports
looks like it could be the speculator could be an
(10:43):
ACL injury, so you hate that further him. But Giants
able to hang on and uh and win that game.
So now the Giants get their first win of the
season and the Chargers suffer their first loss of the season.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
How about Jackson Dart.
Speaker 4 (10:55):
Jackson Dart was called dark.
Speaker 6 (10:57):
Right, Yeah, Jackson Dart was in that game.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
Russell Wilson's how will not retire?
Speaker 6 (11:02):
Well that might not be his decision. Yeah, dark by
the way, thirteen of twenty one hundred and eleven yards,
So we didn't sling it around the park, but a
touchdown and did not have an interception.
Speaker 4 (11:13):
There you go.
Speaker 6 (11:14):
And actually the Giants picked justin Herbert twice, so turnovers
right there you go, big one in that one. The
Houston picks up their first win of the year, twenty
six nothing over Tennessee. So two oh and three t
somebody had to win that game.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
Brett C. J.
Speaker 6 (11:28):
Stroud twenty two of twenty eight two hundred and thirty
three yards, had two touchdowns in that game. Detroit goes
to three and one being in Cleveland thirty four to ten.
Jared Goff one hundred and sixty eight yards, two touchdowns
in an interception. Joe Flacco had two picks in that game.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
Oh did they?
Speaker 6 (11:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (11:45):
Okay?
Speaker 6 (11:45):
And speaking of picks, Jared Allen threw his first interception,
but it didn't matter. Buffalo rolls over New Orleans thirty
one nineteen Buffalo now four to OHO in the Saints
remain at oh four, so the Panthers stay out of
the cellar in the NFC South. And then the other
game earlier today was Minnesota in Pittsburgh from Croke Park
and Dublin. It we've been fun to see that game Pittsburgh.
(12:06):
It wasn't a great game, but Pittsburgh hangs on to
win twenty four to twenty one. Aaron Rodgers two hundred
yards passing with a touchdown in that game.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
Pittsburgh had a fourth and inches and then they decided
not to go for it, took the delay of game,
punched the ball, and then they ended up coming up
with the name a turnover anyway in the situation, not
a turnover, but they they turnover on downs. But they did,
and I thought was, you know, I think coach tomin
Is gonna get questioned big time about that, like, hey not,
(12:33):
why why not put away these guys and pick up
the first down one?
Speaker 6 (12:37):
Well, they were talking on the on the broadcast, it
was Joe Davis and Greg Olsen about go for it here,
like why not go for it? That's something Bill belchik.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
Oh absolutely would have done. Yeah. Absolutely.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
Minnesota got a huge break early in that game because
they had a fumble that Pittsburgh picked up and ran
in for a touchdown. And then on a review they
found that the Minnesota runner was act actually he touched
the ball. He fumbled the ball, but then touched it
before the Pittsburgh player picked it up, and he was
laying out of bed on the ball. He did not
(13:11):
possess it, but he put his hand on the ball
guy picked it up, So but the ultimately didn't help him.
So yeah, Minnesota is not the first team to play
back to back games in Europe, with the first team
now to play back to back games in separate countries.
Because they're going to go play in London next week.
They're staying over there.
Speaker 6 (13:32):
They're staying there and they'll go from Dublin to London. Yeah,
so they packed for the long haul.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
I guess.
Speaker 8 (13:38):
Yeah, Well, I hope they like Guinness San Francisco gets.
I heard Olson talking about that, let's not go there.
Did you not hear I heard that? Yeah, he said
he wasn't a huge fan of Guinness.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
So well, that's that's not his personal taste. I understand that.
But he said he tried it. He said it's okay,
it was all right, But yeah, there you go. They
can't get a I hope nobody in Ireland was listening. Yeah,
well I don't think they were. Maybe they weren't broadcast
in Ireland. Maybe that's just the US broadcast, right. I
guess he didn't sign up. I've got a friend who's
(14:11):
been over there and they were telling me that you
can you can buy this thing in Guinness where they
will they will recreate your face on the foam the
phone on the Guinness of the Guinness.
Speaker 6 (14:20):
And you know they do the shamrock is the big thing.
He'll put a shamrock in the Guinness. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
Wow, they'll do your face.
Speaker 6 (14:25):
They'll do your face.
Speaker 4 (14:26):
Yeah, we create your face.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
Okay, maybe maybe Olsen did the sign up for Maybe
if he'd sign up for that to put his face
in the Guinness.
Speaker 6 (14:32):
All right, so we on record the Panthers playing Ireland
next year. We're gonna ask David if we can all
go so we can have our faces.
Speaker 4 (14:39):
Can we go?
Speaker 2 (14:40):
That's right? Oh, they might associate with Olsen because they're
Panther people.
Speaker 4 (14:45):
Maybe I don't know.
Speaker 2 (14:47):

Speaker 1 (15:46):
Helps no to Bred McMillan with the Panthers Postgame Show
exclusively on the Carolina Panthers Radio Network.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
Hey, welcome back along with the Jim Pachico.
Speaker 4 (16:00):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
You guys are like one man go so long. I
just consider you as one. Gee robinsad of Mike Fachico, think, well,
we're glad to have you with this. Oh it was
that kind of day. New England beats the Panthers forty
two to thirteen, and time for the Panthers to start
looking ahead two next week. Let's go ahead and take
(16:23):
listen to some of the highlights of today's game. And
it started good for the Panthers. Opening drive, Bryce Young
goes four for four for forty eight yards. It was
a beautiful drive and this is how it ended.
Speaker 7 (16:35):
Young get out of the shotguns, wins right, rentfro to
the left. Hubbard is the running back. Bryce takes the
bell tie staff, looking left, throws back to the corner
of the end zone, caught for a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
Well there it was going well. Missed the extra point though,
so it was six nothing. The Panthers stopped New England.
They go three and out. Panthers actually had a nice
drive going got down to the forty three yard line,
but instead of trying to a little bit a sixty
yard field goal, at that point instead of trying that,
the Panthers just signed a punt. Hey, yeah, what John
(17:08):
Fox used to say, punts a good play, puns a
good play, good play.
Speaker 7 (17:12):
It went like this, Marcus Jones back deep high punt.
Jones near the ten, makes the catch of the twelve.
They'll try to run, went backwards, breaks a tackle. Now
has ruled. He's going up bill, He's got the forty,
he's got the fifty.
Speaker 6 (17:28):
Beats the punter.
Speaker 9 (17:30):
Marcus Jones is gone in.
Speaker 7 (17:33):
Eighty seven yard punt return for a touchdown. A rare
special team's miss cue by the Panthers.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
Oh kesh, it was a good play for New England.
Oh schmuck goodness, Yeah, it was a special team's miss
you that was. That was one of three long punt returns.
Marcus Johns had a sixty one yard punt return later
in the game that got New England the ball at
the fourteen yard line. Had another long punt return. They
got no ing on the ball at the forty one
yard line of the Panthers later in the game. So
(18:04):
New England got the opportunity of multiplications guys to work
with a short field. In addition to that one for
a touchdown.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
And typically, you know, we say that special teams accounts
for like twenty three percent of you know, the plays
and and really the momentum.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
And we saw that because that it deflates you.
Speaker 3 (18:24):
I mean, it deflates So you got your guys on there,
you just stopped them defensively, You're like, okay, cool, we're
gonna get the ball back of Yeah, we're good boom,
you know, or they I'm sorry when they when we're
kicking the ball to them. I mean, it's just it
deflates you. It deflates you. And I don't know, I
would imagine that coach Canalis is gonna be looking at
(18:46):
that and looking at personnel and trying to find out
what's wrong, because I think that's uncharacteristic. I think we've
always been a strong special teams team. We've always been
that way, always been that way. And so to see
you know, I saw Demani Richardson trying to push him
out of bounds that on this on the second one
(19:06):
where the punter ends up hitting his foot and thing,
and I was like, oh man, just so so close
and it but it didn't happen. But I would expecting
better play from our from our defense, from my team, and.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
That couple of guys had him, you know, the first
first the one for the touchdown, like.
Speaker 6 (19:24):
Three miss the right at the point of catch, yes.
Speaker 3 (19:30):
And when he gets by that, it's like when you
fake out one guy when everybody's kind of level, you
faked out everybody.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
You know. Now that posed the different layer.
Speaker 6 (19:38):
That looks like some of the lanes broke down to
It seemed like everybody kind of crashed.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
And that allowed And when he was gone, when he
when he turned the corner, it's like, I'm done, I'm gone.
Speaker 7 (19:49):
Well.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
The Panthers next possession, once again, they moved the ball well.
They got to the forty one yard line, but instead
of going ahead and trying a long field goal timp
they punted the ball. Uh did better god coverage this time,
but then New England started on a great drive with
huge chunk plays. A twenty four yard pass, a twenty
one yard run, another twenty two yard run got him
(20:12):
down of the five yard line when the old Myers
Park in North Carolina product beat.
Speaker 7 (20:17):
Him seven to sixth the score. First play of the
second quarter, seconded goal from the Panther five May crouches
under center. It's an offset eye west over the fullback
in motion the snap, the fake to Gibson, May boots
to his left. He's got the ten to five angles
inside the pylon. Four in New England.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
Touchdown.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
Yeah, drank May had himself a pretty good day today.
Fourteen to seventeen, two hundred and three yards, two touchdowns
at a quarterback rating of one fifty five point six.
You still don't know if that's perfect. That's the problem
with the quarterback rating, but it's pretty dark close to perfect.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
And Brett here's another thing that we didn't even talk about.
At the end of that play. When he scored a touchdown,
he did that Superman thing like what Cam Newton used
to do and like pull, you know, like like he's
coming out of the phone booth. And look today, the
way he played, he looked like Superman.
Speaker 4 (21:09):
He was.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
He played a really special game and I thought he
was spot on. He was fourteen for seventeen and just
in the zones. He was just lighting us up in
the zones.
Speaker 4 (21:21):
Man.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
I'm like, he's he's finding that where the open receiver
is and making things happen. And so wow, what are
nice performance by Drake May I mean he's made. He's
I know, his families, I know they got to be
proud about proud of them.
Speaker 6 (21:35):
Yeah, and he didn't have to he didn't have to think.
But he like, he wasn't forced to move a spot
and he wasn't forced to speed up. No, he was
just able to there and kind of go through his progressions.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
Yeah, that was what. He had three rushes for eleven
yards total in the game.
Speaker 1 (21:50):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
He was sacked once, but it was a sack for
zero yards.
Speaker 4 (21:53):
Zero yards.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
Yeah, and there was another special movie he was gonna
he was running and instead of taking his when he
got to the when he got right near the line
of game, he threw the ball away as he's going
on about. So that means there is no sack because
if he would have stepped out of biles, it would
have been a sack. Yeah, because he was so close
to the line the game. I got the line the game,
(22:15):
but the a lot of scrimage. I was like, Wow,
what a smart what a smart move the savior a
stat to making that look like the line is not
doing their job.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
Yep. And the Patriots kept going from their final forty
two to thirteen winning today for the Patriots, as they
just kept rolling once the momentum got going in their direction.
As we talked about Panthers' first four possessions, they got
the ball into New England territory and came away only
with the one touchdown, which is which is tough.
Speaker 3 (22:48):
It still was baffling to me when I'm looking at
the total yards three hundred and twenty five yards by
the Panthers, three or seven by the Patriots, rushing yards
one twenty seven by US one o four by them,
first downs twenty one first downs by the Panthers, uh
uh sixteen. Time of possession thirty five minutes and ten
(23:09):
seconds twenty four forty.
Speaker 4 (23:12):
When you look at.
Speaker 3 (23:12):
The stats, you would think on paper that man, we
blew them, that the scores were reversed.
Speaker 4 (23:18):
But that's not the case.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
And I think it's not the case because of the
special teams playing of the of the Patriots special teams.
Was was the was the kicker today? It was the
X factor, no doubt about it.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
Mike.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
You're looking at the team stats, what was the average
starting field position?
Speaker 6 (23:36):
Average starting field position, let's see here.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
Uh okay, that's because that I mean we talk about
starting at how many times the Patriots started inside Panther territory.
Speaker 6 (23:50):
Yep, where is that? Oh, well, you're looking at that.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
I'm gonna go over the injury report report, which is
brought to you by Atrium Health doing more to keep
you moving, achieving, striving at every AGENC day so you
can live fully. It was not a good day in
the injury department for the Panthers. David Moore ran the
ball on the kind of an end of round on
the first play of the game and suffered an elbow injury.
He did not return. Chandler did Zavalla left with a
(24:13):
knee injury. Cam Jackson had an injury and I can't
remember what it was, but he did not come back.
And then the lave beyond Campbell had a hamstring injury
and he did not return. So those are the ones
we know about, and those are guys that left the
game and did not return. So difficult day for the
Panthers there.
Speaker 6 (24:32):
And to answer your question, but New England's average starting
position was on their own thirty eighth.
Speaker 4 (24:37):
Wow.
Speaker 6 (24:37):
Panthers was on their own twenty seven.
Speaker 4 (24:40):
Wow.
Speaker 6 (24:40):
That's only the forty eleven yards.
Speaker 4 (24:43):
That's a big difference.
Speaker 6 (24:44):
Yeah, close to the closer to the midfield.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
And that's taking into a cat that right before halftime,
New England started at their own two that one time, right, Yeah,
So that tells you.
Speaker 4 (24:55):
That just tells you how how good they were.
Speaker 6 (24:57):
And twice they got the ball in US Carolina territory,
So they got the ball at the Carolina fourteen and
the Carolina forty one, So twice they got the ball
on the other side of midfie.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
Yeah, that's why I was thinking there. Yeah, then give them.
We'll have to go far to score. There you go,
All right, still ahead, we'll hear from coach Dave Canalis,
also get the final thoughts of Jim Aniche and Luke.
So stay with us on the Carolina Panthers Radio Network. Hey,
(25:36):
welcome back to the Panthers postgame show along with Eugene Robinson,
Mike Pachico, Brett McMillan. Glad to have you with us.
Panthers fall today forty two to thirteen to the New
England Patriots, and we're going to head back to Foxborough
where Jim, Aniche and Luca caught up with the coach.
Speaker 5 (25:51):
All right, guys, thanks and welcome back. We're joined by
the head coach Dave Canalis now and coach of course,
lots to like about that opening touchdown drive and then
the deep jumps in for a moment there and then
things get out of hand till the very end of
the game. Just to broad strokes what you saw in
between the two touchdowns by the Panthers.
Speaker 10 (26:08):
Yeah, I think, first and foremost, just giving a lot
of credit to the New England Patriots for being ready
all three phases we got beat today. Big plays on
special teams, unit, big plays on defense. Offensively sputtering out
in the high red area in the fringe area with
a bunch of first downs and some good things early
(26:30):
on third down. We have to be able to finish drives.
We have to be able to eliminate the penalties and
put ourselves in position to come away with points collectively.
This is just, you know, this is a game where
I got to look at everything that we're doing and
make sure I'm doing the right things to prepare our team.
Speaker 7 (26:47):
Yeah, Dave, staying on that point, I think I counted
seven drives where you guys got across midfield. It seemed
that even in that in between the opportunities were there. Absolutely,
and we have to be able to finish.
Speaker 10 (26:59):
We have to execute together. We have to keep our
foot on the gas and you know, to come away
with nothing on a lot of those drives, you know,
and even the long field goal, you know, just trying
to find, you know, a positive play to get closer,
you know, instead of having to take those long attempts.
And they they executed the finish of the drives better
than we did today.
Speaker 9 (27:17):
Coach Luke here, I just wanted to kind of talk
about the injury to David Moore on the first play
of the game. Does that affect stuff having him being
a big part of the offense. Does that affect things
moving forward with how the how the game gets called?
Speaker 10 (27:27):
It certainly does. And you know, we have to look
to the rest of our guys that we're counting on
to step in and help us. You know, David is
a stud and he stepped in a bunch of different
roles to be able to help us right now. So
you know, we're gonna have to get Excel back out there,
you know, and we're gonna have to ask the rest
of the guys who've been you know, chomping at the
bit and ready to help us to make sure that
they can bring something to the game.
Speaker 4 (27:46):
Awesome.
Speaker 5 (27:47):
We know that there were other injuries in the game.
You came in with a bunch of injuries, and that
you have confidence in every player you put on that field.
Did it affect anything like the punt return as far
as just personnel and a lot of different players in
different spots or anything like today.
Speaker 10 (28:00):
I can't say that right now, Jim, I got to
look at the film. But we ask these guys to
go out there and execute. We're counting on them. The
guys who have opportunities to step in. These are great opportunities.
There are great moments for them, and we have to
be able to count on them to continue to play
football with us.
Speaker 7 (28:14):
Dave, last thing for me just such a big contrast
from this week to last week when it comes to
handling success.
Speaker 10 (28:22):
What's important handling success handling failure? It's the same thing.
We have to get back to work. Talk to the guys.
A loss is a loss. Like we're going to look
at the film. We have to be studs about how
we move forward. We have our processes, The work is
all we have. Can we come back to work with
that focus and mentality to be able to replicate that,
and that's a sign of good teams as they're consistent
(28:44):
with their execution. I have to make sure that I'm
keeping our guys in the right frame of mind to
be able to keep pushing our football forward.
Speaker 5 (28:50):
All right, coach, we appreciate your time. Thank you so much.
Speaker 10 (28:52):
Okay, thanks guys, Coach.
Speaker 5 (28:54):
Dave Canalis, there is he wrap things up from what
was a difficult afternoon in Foxborough to Charlotte.
Speaker 2 (29:00):
Opp all right, thanks agin your thoughts.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
So with this more or.
Speaker 3 (29:04):
Less more like the Ryder Cup when I was watching
Europe and no matter what the what the United States
was doing, that they were just playing better. I mean,
was it was it a't matter just that And because
coach Kanal has said that they had more explosive plays,
they played better here they played so I was it
a matter of they just played that much better?
Speaker 4 (29:26):
Because the numbers it bears out.
Speaker 3 (29:29):
When I look at the stats, you would think that
the Panthers are winning. But the fact that the stats
are so comparable and a little bit less on the
other side is that I would assume that they just
played better. And that seems to be the case that
the Patriots has played better than us.
Speaker 6 (29:47):
Well, they put the hammer down and they kept the
hammer down.
Speaker 2 (29:50):
Oh yeah, they ran the ball well, they threw it well,
and they took the Panthers out of what they wanted
to do.
Speaker 6 (29:57):
I mean it was you know, you could kind of say,
you know, you can if you if you maybe win
one or two phases, you know, you give yourself a chance,
but you get decimated in all three. It's it's pretty
hard to win.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
And it was explosive place, you know, on the offense,
on the special teams, and the defense. I mean the
defense too. I thought that they harassed Bryce. I thought
that they were in the.
Speaker 4 (30:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
I mean we ran the ball much more effectively, I thought,
but we got to a point where a run wasn't
going to help us. We had to throw the ball
and they knew that we had to throw the ball,
and they were The defense was back, Yeah, pinning back
and get after you get after the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
And I think you look at and he talked about
it right off the top. He had to finish drives.
And we've talked a couple of times on this show
about the fact that the first four drives the Panthers
had they got into New England, territory, but it came
away with only seven points points. I mean, you know,
(31:01):
their second drive, they got to the forty three yard
line and and you know, and punted. The next drive,
the Panthers got to the forty one yard line and
punted the next time, they got to the thirty seven
yard line. Actually they got to the twenty six and
that's when Bryce was sacked. Remember he went back and
he slipped and it went as a sack for a
(31:24):
and I was a loss of what eleven yards, And
that's when they missed a fifty five yard field goal.
I mean it was you know, it's the old bend
but not break defense, except the Patriots defense was locking
down at the forty instead of the twenty.
Speaker 3 (31:41):
Yeah, you know, and I think it's gonna come a time,
and I think it's gonna come. It's gonna people are
gonna think differently when you get to the thirty I
mean the forty three, forty one yard line, that you're
gonna end up bringing in your field goal kicker, because
I think the rains is slowly moving back to like
ft five to sixty five yards. I think that's gonna
(32:03):
be somewhere in this So you know you can be
at the forty yard line of forty two yard line,
or that you're gonna go ahead and say, all right, well,
I'll put my defense out there and see if I
can go pick up the first down if it's fourth,
the two, fourth and three, fourth and four, something that's manageable,
and seeing about just taking another play and putting on
my defense to go ahead and to stop them.
Speaker 4 (32:24):
So I think we're gonna start.
Speaker 3 (32:25):
Seeing a little different how coaches, how they affect the
game and where you are as far as yard and
field position.
Speaker 2 (32:35):
Think about it. If Bryce, you know that was that
was a second and five from the twenty six yard line.
If Bryce doesn't slip, it's credit for the say if
he doesn't slip, because they had a nice drive going.
If if he doesn't slip that, like I said, it's
eleven yard loss. Maybe that drive continues. If he could
even an incomplete pass, and then you're sitting there at
(32:55):
third and five instead of third and sixteen, Can the
drive continue? It's a makeable field goal. You know, all
of a sudden, you're only down fourteen to six at
that point, is it fourteen to nine? Is it fourteen thirteen?
And then it was the next drive where the Panthers
had them stopped, had the Patriots stopped, had a third
and goal at the forcing the Patriots into a field
(33:20):
goal situation. It was a third and goal of the
twenty six yard lender of the twenty yard line, and
the Panthers get called for tripping exactly which then makes
it a first intent or a first intent at the eleven.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
I think that was Nick Scott got food on the
play coming up to make that tackle on the running back.
He cuts back to the inside and as he's off balanced,
he goes to six of the leg out to go
in and trip him. That allowed another automatic first down. Boom,
and now you gave him life. And then they end
up scoring. And did it feel like to you as
we were going into the half that if the Patriots
(33:52):
got the ball any time that they were going to
go ahead and score. I mean sours just because in
those last five five four minutes of the game, Like
I was like, man, if I think if they get
the ball back, they'll score, and so just keep it
out of their hands because I don't want them to
score because I know they get the ball back. At
(34:12):
the halftime, we kicked back off to him. So I
didn't want them to have the ball.
Speaker 6 (34:16):
At all, and that huge momentum swings too. Momentum plays
kind of like in basketball when the team goes on
like a maybe a six eight old run and all
of a sudden, then they get a steale and they
march down. You know, guy drives down and just has
a thunderous dunk. Crowd goes crazy. It was like plays
like that and that's kind of demoralizing when you're on
the other side.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
Oh absolutely, And so it just felt like, man, I
we just could not stop the onslaught. That was the Patriots,
and Fake May looked like he was Joe Montana.
Speaker 4 (34:46):
He just were so good.
Speaker 2 (34:47):
Yeah, there were self imposed mistakes. He kept hurting yourself.
We'll be cut back. We will here for the man
who scored two touchdowns today on the Carolina Panthers postgame show, Hey,
welcome back Final today New England forty two, Carolina thirteen.
I stand corrected the man did not score two touchdowns today.
He thought he had scored scored too as well, but
the after review of the Official Society hadn't scored two
(35:10):
touchdowns today, but he got one and he got dark
close on another one and he's with Jim A Niche
and Luke.
Speaker 5 (35:16):
Guys, thanks for joined by tight end. Tommy Trumble had
an opening touchdown in this game and nearly another one
got the Panthers set up for their last one, as
it turned out, on the final drive of the game
for Carolina. But of course, Tommy, the story was in between.
Just from your eyes, broad strokes, your perspective, what kind
of happened after that opening touchdown?
Speaker 2 (35:35):
Drive to you guys overall?
Speaker 11 (35:36):
You know, I think we just needed to execute our plays.
And you know, when we can't do that, execute the plan,
it doesn't go right. You know, it's the NFL. You
can't make mistakes. And so I think we clean that
up and we'll get it right.
Speaker 7 (35:50):
Hey, Tommy, a nice here. Last week, you guys go
out dominate Atlanta tough sledding today. What does that say
about handling success in terms of that being the next
step for you guys?
Speaker 4 (36:04):
Yeah, I know.
Speaker 11 (36:05):
I think the main thing is knowing you got to
wipe the slate clean, whether it's a win a loss,
and know you got to put the work in. You
got to earn it every week, and unfortunately we didn't
earn it this week, but we got next week to
come back, bounce back, do our thing. Work extra hard
this week. Clarifications all over the board, and I think
we'll go out there and execute.
Speaker 9 (36:26):
Tommy Luke here, I just wanted to check in how
you feel on everything all right, after that last catch
you had down there into the gold one.
Speaker 11 (36:31):
Yes, sir, I just got a little uppercut to the liver,
so that didn't feel too good.
Speaker 5 (36:35):
Cool.
Speaker 9 (36:36):
One last thing, Tommy. Obviously the first drive was great.
In between wasn't so great. When you guys are at
your best, when this offense is at its best, we
saw it last we we saw it on the first
drive this week. Kind of talk to me about what
do you feel like we do really well when we're
playing good football.
Speaker 11 (36:51):
I think we just are good at moving the ball
down the field. You know, everyone getting in the right spots,
making the right reads, and when we do that, we're rolling.
So we just have to get back to that next week.
Speaker 7 (37:00):
Cool and Tommy, I know you guys got beat up
pretty good with the injuries in this game. You know,
from an offensive standpoint, you're down to three receivers and
you were down to tight end coming into the game.
What has to be the mentality.
Speaker 11 (37:15):
You know, our mentality is we got to go on
there and ball and so rather we have zero like
one tight end and home receivers. We got to make
something happen. So I think going out there executing plays.
That's why you got to know the playbook, plug guys
in and which McCall it. It was tough today, but
we're gonna be prepared for it. That's the NFL, you know.
(37:35):
We got to prepare for every situation.
Speaker 5 (37:37):
All right, and last thing, we'll let you go. Tommy
is your fellow Notre Dame guy Mitch Elevens. It's a
touchdown there at the end, not in the setting that
he would want, but there's something about getting that first
NFL touchdown, right, Yes, sir, I'm really proud of him.
Speaker 4 (37:48):
Man.
Speaker 11 (37:48):
He works his butt off and he's a guy that
comes to work every day, does the right things, and
he earned that touchdown.
Speaker 4 (37:55):
Man.
Speaker 11 (37:55):
I'm really really happy for him. He deserves it and
I'm glad he kept the ball.
Speaker 5 (38:00):
The way there. So on that previous play of God,
you're doing well, thanks for just take a few misses
to talk with us.
Speaker 11 (38:04):
We appreciate that, Yes, sir, appreciate y'all.
Speaker 5 (38:06):
All right, Patriots forty two Panthers thirteen as we send
it back to Charlotte.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
All right, thanks a lot, Jem appreciate it. And for
his efforts today, we're gonna give Tommy Trimble our hardest
working Player of the Game, presented by sun Belt Rentals,
the visional rental equipment partner of the Carolina Panthers, one touchdown,
one near touchdown. He had five catches today for forty
two yards and the one touchdown.
Speaker 4 (38:28):
Did he say he got an uppercut to the liver
upper cut?
Speaker 2 (38:31):
Right, I'm assuming that means you said cut. Yeah, I
was thinking an actual cut. But I think what he
did was like boxing.
Speaker 4 (38:40):
Box, yeah, to the liver. Yeah, that's what I thought
you were. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (38:43):
Wow, okay, so but hey, you know what, Hey, it's uh,
you know, he's been around for a while, and it's
the it's let's go back to business. It's one week.
Speaker 4 (38:52):
It is it's one week.
Speaker 3 (38:53):
And then you go ahead and hit the drawing board
once again, and then you look at the film, have
the twenty four hour ruling, whether you did great, whether
you did poorly. You kind of throw that out the
window and then you learn from it and you and
you push on and you get ready to prepare for
the for the next opponent. And so I mean that's
just the NFL and just how how it works and
(39:14):
getting momentum and getting confidence that only happens when you win.
And so hopefully the Carolina Panthers can get on a
win streak because the feeling of winning is totally different
than than than losing and is something that's, uh that
keeps you going and keeps your confidence up.
Speaker 2 (39:34):
Well, I think it, Mike, as you look at it,
you know, you're next two were at home against two
teams that are struggling, Miami and Dallas. I mean Dallas'
defense has just been abysible and they may be without
Cede Lamb, which is top off, the top off as
the weapon.
Speaker 4 (39:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (39:50):
Then you go play the Jets on the road, and
you know the Jets have been struggling.
Speaker 4 (39:54):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (39:54):
Then Buffalo comes to visit. That's gonna be tough, obviously.
Then you go to Green Bay, that's gonna be tough.
And then you know, you got New Orleans who is struggling,
and you go to Atlanta. Yeah, you've already shut out
so bad.
Speaker 6 (40:07):
Things seemed to happen in Atlanta, when for the Panthers
it just seems for the most part, I mean, there's
there's some some history there where things don't go well.
You know, there's been some good games, but I think
when you, you know, after the game last week, I
think you looked at this four game stretch starting with
New England, and they all looked, you know, certainly winnable game.
You know, you know, it's hard to win four straight
(40:28):
games in the NFL, So I don't think anybody expected
that per se, But I think three and one and
three and one is still possibility. But this team has
to look more like the team to beat Atlanta instead
of the team that lost to New England.
Speaker 3 (40:40):
Yeah, and so I mean this there's obvious work to
be done and some explosive plays that need to happen,
and also some some guys to get healthy. And I'm
really looking forward to getting jay Len Kocher back. I
think he that young man is incredibly gifted. I think
he's one of the best receivers that's on our on
our team indeed, so I would love to get him
(41:02):
back in the mix because I think he's a difference man.
Speaker 6 (41:04):
It's like being the guy hitting behind Aaron Judge, I
mean exactly, you know, you have it forces defenses maybe
to think a little bit differently about how they want
to handle team.
Speaker 4 (41:13):
Absolutely, I love the way he plays.
Speaker 2 (41:15):
We would come back. We'll go through the stats from
today's ball game. This is the Carolina Panthers Radio network. Hey,
welcome back. Panthers fall to the Patriots forty two thirteen.
Here's some of the stats from today's ball game. And
(41:39):
Ryce Young today eighteen of thirty one hundred and fifty
yards and one touchdown. Andy Dalton came in in the
fourth quarter. He was five or six or fifty eight yards.
He also had a touchdown. Pass Chewba Hubbard Lady Rusher
ten carries forty nine yards. Travis Eighten had seven carries
for thirty three yards, and Doubt had nine for thirty
(42:01):
two yards. In the receiving department, McMillan had four catches
for sixty two yards. He was targeted eight times. Also
targeted eight times. Tommy Tremble had five catches for forty
two yards and one touchdown. Tremaine three catches for thirty
six yards. Evans had three catches for twenty three yards,
(42:23):
including one touchdown and that was his first career touchdown.
Cuba had three for twenty, Mitchell had two for seventeen,
and Hunter Renfro two for ten. Defensively, you're leading tackler
was Scott had four tackles, two assists for six also
with six tackles, Robinson and then Turk Wharton had your
(42:48):
only sack on the day today and it was for
zero yards. Mike, what you got?
Speaker 6 (42:54):
Well, kind of to echo what Eugene was talking about earlier.
If I told you a team had five more first
down and their opponent better on third down thirty five
almost thirty six to thirty three percent, had more total
yards three twenty six to three oh seven, more rushing
yards one twenty nine to one oh four, in time
of possession thirty five to fourteen to twenty four to
forty six, you would say that team won the game.
Speaker 4 (43:17):
They won a game.
Speaker 6 (43:17):
That team was the Carolina Panthers. All those numbers, the
twenty one to sixteen, the third downs, Panthers won all
those five categories that I just talked about, and yet
they lost the game.
Speaker 4 (43:26):
And that's what's so lof side of the game exactly,
and that's what's.
Speaker 3 (43:29):
So astounding, And I think what the difference is is
special teams. I mean we just saw coach Frabo give
the special teams the ball to the special teams player
who scored the testdown had a sixty yard punt return.
I mean, he was just explosive. And because he was explosive,
that was the difference maker. It just felt like we
(43:50):
were out of it, like we just couldn't catch any traction.
Speaker 6 (43:55):
Yeah, Marcus Jones was a one hundred and sixty nine
yards in punt returns.
Speaker 2 (43:59):
That is amazing, pretty impressive.
Speaker 4 (44:01):
That is pretty impressive.
Speaker 2 (44:03):
Those of the hitting yards, yeah, yeah, And.
Speaker 6 (44:06):
But it also led I think that also led to
what we talked to. What we talked about kind of
collectively was kind of that snowball effect and then also
the kind of the gut punch that tends to kind
of spur your team on and kind of is a
you know, a negative feeling for the other team.
Speaker 3 (44:19):
Yeah, because when you're running down there and you think
you're gonna go ahead, you're punting the ball to the
team you're thinking about, Okay, by gunners, get down there,
krawl them, force them back into all your help, make
a nice easy tackle all right, give the ball back
to the defense and let's start again. And when they
score testsdown or they get way down there where in
the scoring position that is demoralizing?
Speaker 2 (44:41):
Absolutely, Bill. Before we take our next break, we're gonna
pause in the seconds for a station identification on the
Carolina Panthers Radio Network. Hey, when we come back, we'll
go back to New England, get the final thoughts of
Jim A Niche and look on the Carolina Panthers post
game show.
Speaker 1 (44:56):
Back to Brett McMillan line from Bank of a America
City with more of the Panthers postgame show exclusively on
the Carolina Panthers Radio Network.
Speaker 2 (45:10):
Had a forgettable afternoon in New England for the Panthers.
They fall forty two to thirteen. When we're gonna go
back up there and get the final thoughts of Jim
A Niche and Luke Well.
Speaker 5 (45:20):
The Panthers started the game with a touchdown drive the
end of the game with a laid touchdown in between
was the issue. Forty two points for New England forty
two to thirteen the final score. Panther scored that opening
touchdown a Niche that missed the extra point. I don't
know if that was a harbinger of things to come
on special teams. But that was the big story among
the stories and priorities of this game was immediately in
(45:41):
that first quarter giving up a Marcus Jones eighty seven
yard punt return touchdown. He later had a sixty one
yard punt return on top of that, and then it
was defense, it was offense. All the things that come
on after that, but overall, special teams kind of set
the stage for what turned out to be an awful
afternoon in Foxborough.
Speaker 4 (45:58):
Yeah, it did.
Speaker 7 (45:58):
And what was disappointing was you mentioned the touchdown on
the opening drive. Panthers followed that up by getting New
England to go three and out on defense. Carolina then
moves the ball into plus territory, which was another theme today.
They moved the ball into plus territory on seven occasions.
They only scored twice. One of them came in garbage
(46:19):
time against New England's second stringers. But then they couldn't
do anything. They kick it away. Next thing you know,
Marcus Jones runs it back for a touchdown. The game changed,
and then it was just an avalanche. And hell, we
talked about this last Monday. You know, the truth always
lies somewhere in between. Were the Panthers as bad as
(46:40):
they showed the first two weeks, No they weren't.
Speaker 2 (46:42):
Were they as good as they played last week?
Speaker 4 (46:46):
Maybe not.
Speaker 7 (46:47):
I don't think that they're this bad. They're not losing
to New England forty two thirteen, but winning on the road,
playing better on the road. That is the next step
for this franchise with this core, because uh, you go
back to to start at twenty three, they're now two
and eighteen on the road.
Speaker 9 (47:06):
Yeah, it's just it's a struggle, and I think a
lot of it has to do with how do we
deal with with success? We kind of talked about that
during the game, and then how do we deal with
things that don't go how we want them to do?
How do we how do we deal with things when
we are playing off script? How do we deal when
we are playing well and they were turned to put
a touchdown? How do we how do we respond to that?
We got to tighten back up. You just got to
(47:27):
keep moving forward. And then the other thing on the
offensive side of the ball is we're I don't feel
like we're at the point now where we're able to
overcome bad negative yardage plays on first and second down
because they put us, puts us behind the eight. Ball
goes first down, and then it goes we try to
throw the ball, try to get a chunk, and now
now it's now it's third and eight after your second down,
(47:47):
and we just we don't have the ability right now
to uncover down the field and second and second level
route concepts. And I think one of the other things too,
is we have to find a way to get guys healthy.
You know, you look at Wantam's out, lagets how Patrick
Jones is out, Zabala got hurt. We'd love to see
Jalen Koker at some point David Moore was out. So
you know, you can say whatever you want, but I mean,
(48:08):
when you don't have your top guys in the game,
it affects things on various levels. Guys that are strictly
special teamers now have to play special teams and playoffense.
That did that have anything to do with the punt returns,
I don't know. To the fact that Bryce and Tremaine
is playing almost every snap on the offense side of
the ball, do they pull him off special teams and
then play a guy in special teams that typically doesn't
(48:31):
play a whole lot. There's a lot of things that
make playing football in the NFL difficult. You got a
fifty three man roster, you don't get the dress everybody
on the games, and when your team is banged up,
guys get pushed into situations that don't typically do it,
and sometimes you have little mess ups. And a little
mess up by one guy could be the difference between
keeping contain on a punt on a punt coverage and
(48:51):
a touchdown. It could be the difference between running the
route at twelve yard twelve yards and then running the
running the route at ten yards, the ball is going
to be high at ten versus where the ball needs
to be thrown at twelve yards. So all these little
things begin to add up. And you know, kind of
what I'm getting at is the teams that play well
with guys that are injured have players that practice every
(49:12):
day as if they have an opportunity to play, regardless
if they're going to be in the game or not.
I'm saying, I'm not saying that's the reason why we
lost the game, but our depth guys have to understand,
regardless of how old or young they are, they got
to get in the game and they have to do
their job. Travis Etn, Trevor Etn can't catch that ball
on the one yard line and hold us back. That
(49:32):
ball got kicked and they the New England Patriots, got
the ball on the forty yard line, went down and
scored a touchdown. Those little hidden yards plays just can't
happen with it for a team like us that isn't
quite able to overcome those hiccups in the game.
Speaker 5 (49:45):
Difficult to watch and a niche mentioned the road record.
The good thing is home for the next two weeks,
so hopefully'll be a bright spot with Miami coming to
town next week at Bank of America Stadium. Thanks to
our crew Harold Hammrick along with Jason Hutchinson, Wendell Black,
David and Matt Hogan, Blebens and Jerry Dowd along with
Byron Putman, Amy Martin, Eric Phillman, Sharon Thorson on the sidelines,
David Langton, our executive producer. Back to Charlotte Now with
(50:07):
Brett Eugene and Mike all Right.
Speaker 2 (50:09):
Thanks like guys, appreciate it. This Panthers season stay ice
cold was zippy ice based right here in Charlotte. They're
the ice provider at back of America Stadium, keeping your
drinks and the Panthers cool all game long. Zippy ice,
keeping Carolina cool, one game at a time. Mike go,
what's the late scoreboard look like. Well, let's take.
Speaker 6 (50:28):
A look at the late scores and women kind of
watching the highlights up here on the TV. But Indianapolis
right now leading the La Rams ten to six. That's
about three minutes ago in the second quarter. Jacksonville after
San Francisco scored the field goal, has a touchdown now,
so it's seven to three Jaguars, they have the ball,
and that's about midway through the second quarter. They're Baltimore
seven to three over Kansas City. That's kind of a
(50:50):
could be a preview, I know, it's a playoff preview
if you will.
Speaker 2 (50:54):
Yeah, that's hard to believe. Both those teams are one
and two.
Speaker 3 (50:57):
Yeah, but they've lost close games, sound like that, and
they're still and it would good opponents soon.
Speaker 2 (51:02):
Yeah, but think about that. One of those teams gonna
be one in three Baltimore Kansas one of them is
gonna be one and three.
Speaker 6 (51:08):
One three crazy and Las Vegas over the Bears right
now seven to three, those last two games just going
into the second quarter, and then of course coming up
tonight Green Bay at Dallas, and then two Monday night games.
The New York Jets are at Miami. That'll be a
seven to fifteen game, and then an hour later the
Cincinnati at Denver.
Speaker 1 (51:29):
Oh.
Speaker 4 (51:29):
Two Monday night games.
Speaker 2 (51:30):
Again, two Monday night games. Yeah, interesting, all right, when
we come back, it'll be our three and out. Stay
with us.
Speaker 1 (51:36):
The Panthers postgame show continues live from Bank of America Citio,
exclusively on the Carolina Panthers Radio Network.
Speaker 4 (51:47):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (51:47):
The Panthers open the season with three of their first
four games on the road. Won the one at home,
lost the three on the road forty two to thirteen.
The final today is the Panthers fall to the Patriots.
So now they get ready for a couple of home
games back to back. But we'll have our three and
outs now for today's game against the Patriots, a forty
(52:08):
two to thirteen loss. And we'll start off with Eugene Robinson.
Speaker 3 (52:11):
Yeah, my friend Ows is gonna stick with the defense.
And I think this is something that needs to get
cleaned up and cleared up a little bit once again.
I saw the tackling was somewhat of an issue. I
saw poor edge control, keeping things bottled up so that
the running back or the quarterback can't escape out of
(52:34):
the pocket, and that you keep it all bottled up
in his face. And then lastly, I would love to
see more blizzes. I think that we have some guys
in Smith, Wade and J. C. Horn and Jack to
go ahead who can cover. And I'm like, Okay, if
they can cover, then go ahead and get six seven
people in the face of the quarterback and make the
(52:56):
quarterback have to find someone.
Speaker 4 (52:58):
Make them have to find even.
Speaker 3 (52:59):
If this is a fifty to fifty ball, but make
them fine that under duress and undepression. So it's I'm
sticking with the defense, better tackling, I need better as control,
and I want more blisses.
Speaker 2 (53:10):
I like it like Pachico.
Speaker 6 (53:12):
I think my first one is they need to get
back to that mentality they had going into that Atlanta game.
And I don't know if it maybe they just took
a breath and said, Okay, we got this. Well, no,
you got to bring it every every every Sunday in
the NFL. And so whatever mentality, whatever they did to
get ready for that game that needs to be that
needs to come back. Like Dave Kanal said, you got
(53:33):
to finish drives. I mean, seven times you're in New
England territory and they only had two scores to show
for it, and especially off the heels of scoring on
the first drive, which have done three out of four
times now, which is great, and then you force a
three and out, but then kind of the ooh, I
saw it, yeah, and then the pumper turn happens and
the kind of went one of your favorites. But Katie
(53:55):
Barrow the door after that, right. And then the last
for me is special teams and we thought this was
gonna be kind of a strength of this team. And
you know that that's got to be tightened up too,
because you know, you know three phases and that's that's
a big one.
Speaker 4 (54:10):
All right.
Speaker 2 (54:10):
Well, my first one is exactly what you just said,
and Dave Canalis said it. You need to finish drives.
You know, those those trips inside the New England territory
and to come away with just you know, nothing per se.
I mean, like I said, four trips to start the
game and to come over with just one touchdown is
just you can't win games doing that. You've got to
be punch points on the board and you have the opportunities. Uh,
(54:33):
death by a thousand cuts. You know, you keep hurting yourself.
You know, you get up there, you start something going,
and then all of a sudden you have a false start.
You back yourself up five yards and now you're putting
yourself behind the chains and you can't be doing that.
You got to you got New England and a third
and goal from the twenty yard line, and you trip
(54:54):
the guy and now all of a sudden they've got
a free first and ten at the ten yard line.
And cost type of things. Yeah, those type of things.
It's death by a thousand cuts. And finally a I'd
say make it the twenty four hour rule, the twelve
hour rule, but I think you need to look at
the tape first, So make it the twenty four hour rule.
Put it behind you. It was a bad game. You
(55:16):
got two home games coming up, and I think the
both very winnable games. So move forward. Remember what you
did right against Atlanta, remember what you did wrong against
New England. Move forward, get ready for the next game.
Twenty four hour it, that's it. Next week Panthers take
on the Dolphins right here at Bank of America Stadium.
The stadium show starts at ten o'clock in the Fox,
follow by count down to kickoff at noon. Kickoff just
(55:37):
after one o'clock, and then we'll be back for the
Panthers postgame showed just after four again the final today
Patriots win it forty two thirteen.
