Speaker 1 (00:03):
Now to chim Soaky with the Panthers postgame show exclusively
on the Carolina Panthers Radio Network.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Well, well, an underwhelming start to the season. Twenty six
at ten, the Panthers lose in Jacksonville, and maybe somewhat
appropriate that it basically ended with another turnover, an interception
on a simple checkdown play, and the Panthers just really
didn't have much going on on offense. Defensively didn't look
that different than last year. So it's only one game, Eugene,
(00:36):
but I had a ninety minute rain delay about our
hour and sixty minute rain delay in there. But it's
just nothing about the day really seemed to have any
pop to it, whether it was in the offense. Ran
the ball decently to start the game a little bit
at times with Cuba, and he had that nice catching
run on the touchdown, I mean pick six that was
(00:57):
taking off the even twenty six to ten doesn't really
give the indication of how far apart these two teams were.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
No, this was a dominant performance by the Jaguars. I mean,
we couldn't do anything to stop the quarterback. The quarterbacks
seemed to be Trevor Lawrens seemed to be able to
throw the ball at will. Even when we blitzed, we
never got back to the quarterback. And now even in
our zone blitzes, he's he's completing passes down the field
(01:25):
and moving the change. And then I thought something that
we improved on them that we should have improved on
was the running game. I mean, each end they barry
Sanders out, My goodness, I mean we we could not
we could not stop the run. Uh So defensively, when
you look at it, I'm like, it's just seems like
(01:45):
we were over matched and and that's the Jaguars.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
And we shouldn't be That's that point.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
And the reason why I say that is because their
defense last year wasn't you know, it was one of
the worst defenses in the league.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
These were the two worst defenses.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
And so I was expecting to get more points on
the board. I was expecting to see man. I was
expecting to see us to really light up, and that
did not happen. And offensively, my goodness, it was a
comedy of errors.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
It really was.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
If if you weren't catching the ball, or if you
caught the body, he didn't get your toe tapped in,
or you know, or if you the wall was thrown
over your head. I mean, there was enough blame to
go around, if you will. And so the frustration seemed
to mount and mount on Bryce Young and you can
tell I saw him take his helmet at one point
on the interception and wanted to.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
Throw it down.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
It just kept mounting, and it just seemed like we
never gave ourselves a chance to get out of that,
to get out of that funk. They get it off,
to take a shower and get whatever that is on us.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
They get it off of.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
Us because it was not happening today. And the Jaguars
knew it, and they took advantage. I mean, they just
seemed to get better and better. I'm like, man, the
Jaguars do they look like, you know, like the Coggle
Bears eighty five? They look and they looked dominant, just
extremely dominant. And so from that standpoint, you can't make
any excuses.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
You you know, you.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
Can't say you didn't have any preseason time, You can't
do any of that stuff. You got to say you
went down there and they just beat you up and
it was not next to you close, you know, you know, sorry,
Panther fans. It just wasn't that close. It really really
wasn't that close.
Speaker 5 (03:22):
No, And I just feel like, you know, this is
you know, I think we're starting to get into the
time of the year where we're starting to see new shows,
but this is a repeat, you know. I mean, we've
kind of seen this show before, and now it's the
fourth straight season where the Panthers have lost their first
game of the season. And you know, there were a
couple of things that I thought were were you know,
I thought t Mac was, Yeah, it was nice, good
(03:43):
to see that. I agree with you. I think it
would have been nice if the running game could have
been maybe picked up a little bit more steam. But
this is I just to speak, you know, but you
know what the fans are saying. You know, it's just
it's a frustrating start to the season, you know.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
And the other thing is.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
I'm expecting maybe I'm expecting too much, but when I
look at Exavier Legett, I'm expecting him to be even
better than what he was last year, and today it
just didn't seem that way.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
I mean, even.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
When he was carrying a ball going to his left
hand side, he has a ball in his right hand.
He used to switch that automatically to the left hand
so he can use his right hand as a weapon
to fend off, and instead he doesn't. He's he's running
and trying to skip over people where you're gonna get tackled,
and you possibly could fumble the ball and fumble it
in bounds. If you do fumble it, fumble it out
(04:37):
of bounds, that's totally different if you have it.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
In the right hand. So there was some place.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
And then I think the one that was the most
egregious one for me is that there was a beautiful
pass that Bryce threw several on the outside hit him
right then in the hands. He catches the ball, but
he doesn't do the automatic toe tap that most receivers
do when they're getting toward the sideline. And I learned
that from Tony Martin, who used to play receiver for
the Biamy Dolphins when I was winning Atlanta. He would
(05:03):
always do drills catching the ball near the sideline and
to get that to tap it, get it, get it. It
was automatic. And I'm like, that didn't seem automatic to me.
Get and something I thought he should have gotten.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
It should have been easy, and it wasn't that close
to the sidelines when he caught it exactly, he had room.
Speaker 5 (05:20):
I mean, how many back in the day, like Jerry
Rice automatic?
Speaker 4 (05:23):
Automatic?
Speaker 5 (05:24):
I mean, this is second year in the league. I mean,
this isn't like, okay, maybe first year transition from college.
This is your second year in the league.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
That's exactly what I'm saying. I'm expecting more from that
draft pick, that draft choice. I'm expecting more. And I didn't.
I didn't. I didn't see it.
Speaker 6 (05:38):
I didn't.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
I didn't see it. I'm not.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
You know, when when when a guy makes a play
on t mac in the end zone to strip the
ball down, that's totally different. Or a Hunter Riffel catches
the ball in the middle and a guy hits some
right on top of the ball, that's different. That's that's
a Those are well plays the defense, great plays by
the defense, a great play by the office.
Speaker 4 (05:58):
That's that's good football.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
But you have a chance to catch the rock and
then get your toe tap on end and you don't,
you don't secure that.
Speaker 4 (06:06):
Then I'm like, dude, come on, what are we doing
out here? You know?
Speaker 3 (06:08):
So from that standpoint, so yeah, I was just a
little disappointed. And I think there's gonna be a lot
of blame to go around, and I think when they
watched the film back, they're gonna go, oh, my goodness.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
And here it is officeive line too.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
You got to share some blame because there was some
pressure in the face of the Bryce too. And Bryce
you got to get rid of the ball because you
had time to throw the rock and get rid of
it too.
Speaker 6 (06:27):
You know.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
So this is gonna be a lot of stuff when
they look at the film and go, wow, we we
let some things slip in. I can't believe that we're
at this juncture because I think that they're better than
what I saw.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
Xavierly get targeted seven times, only came over with three
catches to your point ten yards receiving on three catches
for him. Tedoro McMillan looked good. As Mike mentioned, that's
probably the if you had to, like say there was
a bright spot, it was that he just looks the
part right. I mean the way he catches while five
catches sixty eight yards. Almost had that touchdown on the post,
(06:59):
but it was a good defensive play again that it
was knocked away from him. I mean I pinned his arm,
knocked it away with the other arm. You just give
credit to the defense on that one. So McMillan looks
like he could be a big play guy and a
big receiver.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
The one handed catch to that, I thought, yeah, that
they passing the Ferris.
Speaker 5 (07:15):
I'm like, we thought that was a catch.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
We thought it was a catch.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
That was some big time based on the interception being exactly,
it was some big time.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
But you know, McMillan seems to be the guy and
the guy that you want. And he his size. He
plays big. He he really does play big. But based
on the size of his I'm like, Okay, this dude's legit.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
He's a legit receiver.
Speaker 5 (07:35):
And one thing back to Bryce for a second I
thought he did do well was when he did choose
to run, he picked his spots well and he got
out of bounds and didn't really put himself in jeopardy.
Speaker 6 (07:43):
You know.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
Uh, you can see the frustration mount it was mounting
on Bryce, you know. And even the last interception, Uh,
when the ball tips off Donald's hands and it goes
in and he's like, oh man, it doesn't you can't
charge up to the quarterback, Yes, you can't charge it.
Speaker 4 (08:01):
However, the one that got away from him.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
He threw the interception and he scored a testyle except
for the defensive holding penalty. You know, that's the play
he should have never thrown. And so when you look
at it at all, kind of evens itself out. So
he's gonna have to look at the film and be
honest with himself and go, yeah, I should have done this.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
But also he should have got a lot of help.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
And even though you know, definitely Rico Dawdles should have
caught that ball games out of reach at that point,
as was that pass apparently, but it's like he needs
to put that on the running back. I mean, it
doesn't need to be up above his helmet to try
to catch it. To check out, I can see a
more difficult, longer pass. But even that, he just seemed off.
I mean, Bryce just seemed I don't know if he
was rattled or what the case was. He looked frustrated,
(08:42):
just like there were no answers there. And he was
sacked one time. Yes, there was pressure, but he was
only sacked one time in the game, so it was
like he was sacked five times or something like that.
Then defensively, you know, Trevor Lawrence was not sacked in
this game. He was able to get out and run
a couple of times. I mean, Travis etnow is not
this kind of back. I know, he was great at
college and Clemson. Sixteen carries one hundred and forty three yards.
(09:02):
Nine yards of carries.
Speaker 5 (09:03):
Seventy one yards came on one of those runs.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
Yeah, but even seventy yards on the other fifteen Oh.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
No, even I even so with the there was a
certain patience that he has and he you know, like
there were there were plays where.
Speaker 4 (09:19):
Dj Wantum comes in. He does this thing called a
spill technique.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
He wrong shows it.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
So he's gonna make the running back bounce outside to
the linebacker. Well, Wallace doesn't get there. I'm like, dude,
you know he's spilling the play to you. So just
it's an easy play for the linebacker to go ahead
and use the sideline to make a tackle on the
sideline and he's nowhere there and so now you got
eat and run up the field.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
I'm gonna do. Yep.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
Contain is a big thing. Bcr You know, a boot
leg container reverse. That's a really big thing. That was
a reverse by the by the Jaguars, kind of like
a reverse that they scored a touchdown on a bootleg.
Contain and reverse. That's the first thing that you learned.
Make sure that you contain it. Force it back into
all your peoples, because that's what your help is. And
(10:07):
if you don't and you have edges that are lacking,
you're gonna get beat every time.
Speaker 4 (10:12):
So now you've just told the other team that will
play next.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
In Arizona, Arizona.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
So you just told Arizona and gave them a blueprint,
and like, okay, how do you beat the Carolina Panthers.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
Okay, so fix inside the edges won't be clean.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
Make sure you bust the ball to the outside because
that's where it's gonna be some holes at all.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
Right, two hundred yards rushing given up today by the
defense that was the historically bad in the run defense
last year. We'll take a time out and we'll continue.
We'll be hearing from coach Dave Canalis and some of
these players. We'll run through the scoreboard with the Mike
Pachico coming up next segment. Listen back to some of
the plays of the game, and to give you an
update on some of the other injuries that occurred during
(10:50):
the course of the game as well. Panthers lose the
opener on the road in Jacksonville, twenty six to ten.
The final score on the Carolina Panthers Radio network.
Speaker 5 (11:05):
Hey, welcome you back to Bank of America Stadium. Panthers
following today in Jacksonville, twenty six to ten to the Jaguars.
Mike Pachico, Eugene Robinson, Jim Zochi with you this drive
around League brought to you by the Honda Dealers of
the Carolinas Tennessee right now with two about twenty seven
seconds ago in Denver, leading six to three at the half,
one of Eugene's former teams, Seattle a ten to seven
(11:25):
lead over San Francisco. Green Bay over Detroit two minutes
ago in the second quarter there seventeen to three, Houston
six nothing over the La Rams. And tonight it'll be
Baltimore at Buffalo and then Minnesota Chicago is the Monday
night game. Games from earlier today, Tampa Bay over Atlanta
(11:48):
twenty three to twenty. Baker Mayfield had a touchdown pass
with fifty nine seconds to go to Amiica Abuka. Six
seconds ago, Young Hoku misses a field goal attempt would
have tied the game, so Tampa Bay goes on to
win that one twenty three to twenty. Mayfield had three
touchdowns in that game. Cincinnati a seventeen to sixteen win
(12:09):
over Cleveland. Joe Burrow was a fourteen of twenty three
one hundred and thirteen yards with a touchdown. Evan McPherson
had a thirty five yard field goal in the third
quarter that was the eventual game winning score. Flacco was
thirty one to forty five two hundred nine yards with
a touchdown of two interceptions for Cleveland in the Apenis
roles in Miami thirty three to eight Las Vegas over
(12:31):
New England twenty to thirteen. Geno Smith threw for three
hundred and sixty two yards and a touchdown in that game.
Drake may thirty of forty six two hundred and eighty
seven yards touchdown in an interception for the Patriots. Panthers'
next opponent, Arizona, they win in New Orleans thirty to thirteen.
Kylo Murri twenty one of twenty nine one hundred and
sixty three yards had two touchdowns in that game. Aaron Rodgers,
(12:52):
in his return to Metlive Stadium, beats the Jets thirty
four to thirty two. After the game, he said he's
asked about what it was like that game. He said
he was happy to beat anyone associated with the New
York Jazz.
Speaker 4 (13:04):
Oh yeah, here you I forgot.
Speaker 7 (13:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
It doesn't really hold back at age forty.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
No, yeah, you're right about that.
Speaker 5 (13:08):
Well, you know what, he threw four touchdowns in the game,
so he can probably say whatever he wants in the
In the big win there, Chris Boswell had a sixty
yard field goal with a minute three seconds to go
to win the game. Then the Giants lose on the
road in Landover, Maryland twenty one to six. Jad and
Daniels two hundred and thirty three yards in the air
with a touchdown.
Speaker 4 (13:26):
He's special.
Speaker 5 (13:27):
He's a terrific player.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
Yeah, he's absolutely special, no doubt.
Speaker 5 (13:30):
That's your hundred dealers of the Carolina scoreboard.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
Well, I'm glad some of those teams had fun today.
Speaker 3 (13:37):
I know I have such I really have such high
hopes going into this because when you when you're the Jaguars,
the Jaguars have a new system, new coach, you got
to learn a new vernacular, new communication, all that stuff,
and so you're worried about like calling a play right
trips right left, fourth eighty five pass check with me,
tunnel screen you you gotta do all that stuff and
(13:58):
got you gotta keep all that stuff together. And it
seemed like they've been playing together for a very very
long time, and like the coach has been there for
like five years. And it seemed like they didn't miss
a beat. They did not miss a beat at all,
and everything they did seemed.
Speaker 5 (14:16):
Like it worked right.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
And part of today's disappointment is or on a seven
year losing streak. And so you begin the new season
with some new hope. I don't think anybody had like,
you know, huge aspirations like we're gonna win the super Bowl.
But yeah, I think people think of competitive and the
Navy a team that'll buy for a playoff spot. Yes,
and you come out against a team that went four
and thirteen last year that obviously has improved their roster.
But twenty six to ten does not give justice to
(14:39):
what the score of the game looked like from the
eyeball test watching.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
No, not at all.
Speaker 3 (14:42):
I mean when you say twenty six to ten, you're like, oh, yeah,
it were kind of in a good No, not at all.
It was like we weren't in the game at all.
And even the time with the rain delay, you would
think that it was only ten to three, that it's
ten to three, but you would think that, okay, let's
let's shot up some of these things that that we
made mistakes on. It just seemed to be mistakes after
mistakes of being compounded as if I mean, you did
(15:05):
not take advantage of that time in the you know,
being in the locker room a little bit. So like
I said, there's gonna be enough blame to go around.
And when you watch the film, the film does not lie,
and then be honest with yourself in the film. You
watch the film and you take notes, be honest with
yourself because that's where the growth takes place. When you go,
oh yeah, that's me. I messed that up. Okay, I
(15:26):
can do that better, you know.
Speaker 5 (15:28):
And you can point to maybe three or four situations
in this game where, if you know, a play is
made by the Panthers, maybe the outcome is completely different.
Now it's not one or two plays, it is a
few more. But there were plays out there to be made,
and the Jaguars were able to make them when they
needed to and the Panthers weren't.
Speaker 4 (15:42):
You know.
Speaker 3 (15:42):
And that's why I thought Bryce got frustrated because there
was a stretch where he was actually playing kind of
well in this one series, and that's when we had
the Legette thing, we had the illegal man downfield. We
had like three things in a row that happened that
I know, as a quarterback, he's going, oh.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
Man, you know, he can't.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
Really say it, you know, but that's exactly how he feels. Say, look,
let's get our act together. And and I think that
was a momentum killing because it looked like we look
like we're gonna move the ball, and we had three
plays that derelled us on one series.
Speaker 5 (16:18):
Yeah, it was almost like and we kind of saw
this a little bit of times last year, right every
time it looked like they were about to do something good,
it would be an interception, a fumble, maybe a penalty
that would push it back, and then they couldn't get
out of their own way. And I think that's what's
probably the most frustrating part.
Speaker 3 (16:33):
You know, and once here he's right, and here it is,
Bryce take ownership of it. The you know, when you're scrambling,
you know, the defensive back. Is every defensive back sold
to punched the ball, to rap the to rake the
ball out of your hand, all that stuff, and know
that get down immediately.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
Here it is.
Speaker 3 (16:52):
You don't have to get enough a couple of more yards.
Just get down, slide, get down, get your protection. That
way you're protecting the ball. And so I thought that
was a miss opportunity for Bryce scrambling. Well, go ahead
to use the rules of your venice slide, so now
you got your protection, and now they know even if
you fumbled the ball and you slide it, they already
mark you down.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
I agree. Price five carries forty yards, so at times
he did run ahead of twenty two yard run. We
took it out a bound. So there were some good
moments earlier that, but it wasn't nearly enough for the
Panthers Today. Belk a proud partner of the Panthers, Your

Speaker 2 (20:24):
And we're back.
Speaker 7 (20:26):
We're back.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
We're back. Here we are. What do you think we went?
We're right here. There you go. My bet this season
your g was holding court and it just filled into
the segment. This Panthers season, Stay ice Cold was Zippy
Ice based right here in Sharlotte, the ice provider at
Bank of America Stadium, keeping your drinks in the Panthers
cool all game long. Zippy Ice, keeping Carolina cool, one
game at a time, and we're gonna take it one
(20:48):
game at a time. So one lost, no matter if
you lose by one or in this case sixteen twenty
six to ten, Panthers lose two Jacksonville. And we're gonna
listen back to some of the highlights. Wend Ol, We're
gonna pick a couple here, we're gonna do cut number one, Wendell,
and we're gonna do let's see, let's do cut number four.
(21:09):
We're doing little production here. He just got the cut
sheet as we came out of break there. Cut number six, one,
four and six and six is gonna be the one year.
But we did have a tenor. Ron McMillan get his
first NFL catch. We mentioned he was a leading receiver
for the Panthers. Five catches, sixty eight yards. Here was
his first regular season catch, cut one if you will
(21:29):
in the NFL.
Speaker 13 (21:34):
Young gets in the gun. It's an empty set. Rico
Dobble's playing the upback position. Here's the snap. Here's the
Blitz quick throw caught by McMillan. His first catch is
a pro. It's good for a first down to the
thirty five of Jacksonville, a gain of eleven yards. Just
a little slant to beat the Blitz.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
So five catches today, hopefully the start of something big
with the t MAC moving forward in this season. As
a rookie and the Jaguars take a ten to three lead,
they find the tight end wide open long in the
end zone to go up ten to three. Then the
rain delay hits and then after the weather delay, they
get back on the field and this Brian Thomas, their
excellent wide receiver here on a run, scores some nine
(22:13):
yards out to extend the Jacksonville lead.
Speaker 13 (22:18):
Ather's now in a nickel look, Lawrence under center to
the running back the snap fake to two. They flip
it to Brian Thomas on the fly sweep and Thomas
takes it near side into the end zone for a
Jaguars touchdown sixteen to three Jacksonville. It is a nine
yard touchdown run by Brian Thomas Junior.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
And then with the extra point, seventeen to three and
then a Cam littlefield goal before halpsis twenty to three
going into halftime. So things look pretty desperate at that
point obviously, and they kind of stay that way. The
Panthers try to battle back and they would get Choba
Hubbard touchdown to make it twenty three to ten. At
one point, I thought this was the best play of
the game though.
Speaker 7 (22:58):
This is j C.
Speaker 2 (22:59):
Horn when he picked off Trevor Lawrence at the thirty
seven yard line here and JC Horn, you know, cutting
off of what would have been a big play intendant
Ford Travis Hunter.
Speaker 13 (23:10):
Lawrence is in the shotgun, barking out the defense chest
high snack in the pocket. Lawrence throws deep down the
middle of the field, intercepted by J. C.
Speaker 7 (23:21):
Horne. He gets up at the forty seven.
Speaker 13 (23:23):
Horn's got the forty ducks under a jaguar and takes
it to the thirty seven And.
Speaker 2 (23:29):
I present to you the what a burger, What a
moment of the game, grilling delicious food for seventy five years.
What a burger, just like you like it. That was
a very good defensive play that could have been a
big play for Jacksonville. So again you're looking at not
game changing moments, but big moments in the game where
there's some positives at least.
Speaker 4 (23:43):
Yeah, you know that play right there.
Speaker 3 (23:45):
I mean, if Trevor Lawns throws that ball a little
bit deeper, it's going to be a test down by
Travis Hunter. But I gotta give Jc as prost man.
He has some ups. He got up some height, caught
the ball with one hand, saves a big Sam's really
a touchdown, and then a momentum swing, a momentum grabber.
(24:05):
That was a really good play where offensively, I'm going, okay,
we got our shot now, we got our shot. So
that was a great play at a great time and
what a Burger moment indeed.
Speaker 5 (24:16):
And that's what they needed from this defense, right is
to get more takeaways essentially, And you know, David can
Alls has talked about that since day one, is protecting
the football and then taking the football from the other team,
you know.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
And I would love to see some some sacks. There
wasn't enough from that defensive front, even when we were
blitzing that I saw, because it just seemed like the
Jaguars kept the Panthers at bay. They never really got
to the quarterback Trevor Lawrence to move him off the spot,
or to make him nervous at all.
Speaker 4 (24:48):
Nothing. He looked.
Speaker 3 (24:50):
Trevor Lawres looked like the Trevor Lawres we saw at
Clemson winning a championship.
Speaker 5 (24:54):
Well, I know if you know this, but he switched
his footwork in the offseason.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
I hadn't heard that that whole starting with the left
foot forwards to the RIGHTE went forward out of the
shotgun changes everything. He's do the hokey pokey you turn
yourself for rough. Yeah, I just turned his career round.
So he was not sacked and just the one turnover
as far as what Jacksonville had in the game, so
they played a relatively clean game as far as that
goes three hundred and seventy eight yards to two fifty
(25:18):
five for Carolina in the game. As far as penalties,
Jacksonville actually had a lot. Eleven for ninety three yards
didn't hurt them many four for thirty five against the
Carolina Panthers in the game. First downs, they had nineteen,
we had fifteen.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
So when you think about the Jaguars eleven for ninety three,
they are saying to themselves that we've shot ourselves in
the foot. We should have blown this team out. That's
what they're saying. And that's why it looks.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
Like one of the gated to picked six for that exactly.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
So it looks like the game was as you know,
it doesn't seem as lopsided as it should be, but
when you look at it and you take away to
some stats, this was a lopsided game, no doubt about that.
Jaguars made a lot of mistakes off you know, parodies
wise to keep the Panthers in it.
Speaker 2 (26:05):
Agreed, all right, so we'll take a break much more
to get you. We'll hear from head coach Dave Canalis.
We'll be hearing from some of the Panther players, Michael Love.
Another scoreboard update coming up to keep you up to
date of the games in progress that are going on
right now and much more as we continue in the
aftermath of a twenty six to ten Panthers lost at Jacksonville.
You're listening on the Carolina Panthers Radio network. Panthers lose
(26:31):
at Jacksonville twenty six to ten and headed down to Jacksonville. Nalys.
Here the thoughts of the coach, Dave Canalis.
Speaker 13 (26:40):
Here with Panthers head coach Dave Canallis, Dave from up here,
It's felt like a game where six drives in plus territory,
two scores, just missed opportunities seem to kind of be
the theme absolutely.
Speaker 14 (26:53):
You know, it was about really trying to capitalize on
those opportunities and not giving us enough offer coortunities with
the turnovers, you know, and anytime you turn the ball
over and you give a group with a bunch of
skilled players like the Jacks have, you know, you're giving
them opportunities to make explosive plays and to really start
to get in their rhythm, you know, offensively. So I
(27:13):
just think I think you're right, you know, it's just
a matter of finishing those drives and and and coming
away with points.
Speaker 7 (27:19):
Hey, coach, is Jake here.
Speaker 15 (27:21):
I guess frustration is the word as we sit up
here in the box, and maybe I can kind of
sense it in your voice like this. We had opportunities today.
We gave everything to Jacksonville. It seemed like they never
took it from us. But one thing that I noticed
was the frustration from Bryce inside the plus ten on
a fourth down play. Was there a miscommunication with a
receiver on a call on a check on that fourth
(27:42):
down that we didn't convert?
Speaker 14 (27:43):
Yeah, Jake, I don't want to get too much into
the the you know, the what happened there. I just
feel like it's kind of a it was kind of
a sideline conversation. But I think you're right, you know,
there was frustration really all across the board, just not
being able to finish the way we wanted to and
you know, and it really just came down to fundamental football,
you know. It was it was a couple of tackles,
we have the run stopped, you know, and the guy
(28:03):
kind of you know, Pops out for seven, you know,
and then hits an explosive and you know, some of
those things, and offensively certainly it was you know, I
was excited about having a balanced attack today. The run
game started off really well, you know, and we just
weren't able to compliment that and continue the drives, you know,
because because of the turnovers.
Speaker 16 (28:21):
Coach Luke here, can you just kind of talk about
the play at t macws first game coming out here.
Speaker 6 (28:25):
I thought he was a bright spot for us in
the office side of the ball.
Speaker 14 (28:27):
Yeah, I really fired up about the young group of receivers,
you know, and of course Hunter, you know, I thought
the guys did a great job, you know, winning their
one on one matchups, finding finding space in zones. I
would have loved to have seen what it would look
like if we could just continue some drives, you know,
and and really you know, keep featuring those guys.
Speaker 7 (28:45):
But I was really excited.
Speaker 14 (28:47):
I was encouraged by the talent that we have out there.
But this is a game of finish, you know, and
and and there's some plays out there that the guys
I know would love to have back that that I
know they can finish, and we have to be able
to do that consistently if we want to be a
good offense.
Speaker 13 (29:01):
Dave, what's the biggest point of emphasis going into week two.
Speaker 14 (29:04):
Yeah, let's take a look in the mirror, you know,
talk to the group and just said, hey, look this
is us today, this is us right now. We're going
to watch that film and here's where we're at. We
can be better than this. There are things that we
have total control over. I think that the things that
we're going to see and be able to fix are
well within our control. And I feel that sense from
(29:24):
the group as well that the guys know that we
can play a better brand of football, but we just
have to be fundamentally sound with all of our stuff,
with our blocking and tackling and finishing the plays on sidelines,
finishing finishing the plays down the field, you know, and
ending the drives with the ball.
Speaker 13 (29:39):
Coach, appreciate it.
Speaker 14 (29:40):
Thank you, all right, Thanks guys, all right.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
Injury updates you brought to you by Atria of Health
are doing more to keep you moving, achieving, striving at
every age and stage that you can live fully. And
Turk Wharton left the game with a hamstring injury. These
are all the defensive free agent additions that left Bobby
Brown left late in the game Pat Jones with an
ankle injury. So on top of the lost Eugene, I'll
get your thoughts on what coach Canal's had to say,
(30:03):
but hopefully not too long of an injury list as
far as stuff they'll carry over into next week at Arizona.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
He said, we need to take a look in the
mirror and we need to go ahead and be really
honest with ourselves about our play and our play from
every standpoint, from the defensive line, the linebackers, from the
edge control that we didn't see at times, from the mistackles,
and then from the misopportunities. Talked about some of the
young guys having some great opportunities to kesh the rock,
(30:31):
and yes there were something but there was some plays
that that did not happen, and there was some plays
that you can tell the frustration the way even Jake
Delobe asked the question, and I you know, as a quarterback,
he senses the frustration because he knows that he's been
a situation where maybe a guy may run the wrong
route and then it's a miss opportunity. And so from
that standpoint, you know, there you have to look and
(30:55):
be honest with yourself when you when you start breaking
down the film, that's the best. That's the only way
that you grow, and it's the only way that you
get better, you know. And here it is, Yeah, do
you throw the baby out with the bathwater? No, Bryce
is going to be your quarterback when you come back
next next week. So here it is. You got to
be better. The receiver's got to be better. The old
(31:17):
line gotta be better. You have to make better decisions
with the rock, and then you got to be spot
on with the ball. The ball can't be behind, can't
be over the guy's head, can't be by the guy's feet.
Speaker 4 (31:28):
You gotta be better.
Speaker 3 (31:29):
So I'm looking for Bryce to make that jump, and
I think he's capable of making that jump.
Speaker 4 (31:35):
But the frustration that.
Speaker 3 (31:37):
Ensues when you lose a game where you know that
you should have played a lot better, you know, it's
very very telling and it hurts.
Speaker 5 (31:44):
Yeah, and I like to you know, it's a game
of finish and you have to you know, complete things,
Finish things, you know, do the right you know, run
the right routes, you know, finished tackles, you know, mistackling
is something we talked about as well, and not. I
mean it's we're at the stage of yet we could
talk about it, but now we gotta translate that into action.
Speaker 4 (32:03):
Yeah, you gotta, you gotta do it.
Speaker 3 (32:04):
I'm look, I've missed tackles in the open field, so
I get that's that's not an easy.
Speaker 4 (32:10):
Thing to do. But you practice tackling.
Speaker 3 (32:14):
You you practice lighting a guy up, you practice making
sure you get same foot, same shoulder, you practice go
ahead of technique with the road tackle.
Speaker 4 (32:21):
You practice all that stuff.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
And even though you may miss them, you're probably gonna
make more tackles than miss more tackles. And so from
that standpoint, even we're gonna be practicing all that stuff.
You know, I became a really good tackler, a really
good guy to be able to move his feet to
make that play and to prevent that extra yardage.
Speaker 4 (32:41):
So I get it.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
I don't want ETN the other ETN on the other
side getting extra yards. So when you smack him in
a mouth, smack him in the mouth, man, put him
down on the ground. Get them down on the ground, dude,
all right, and don't be diving out of every people's feet.
Speaker 4 (32:55):
Stay on stay up top. So that you can make
that tackle and he has to run through you.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
So there's a lot of stuff that the coach is
going to be dissecting, and these things happen, and that's
why preseason games, that's why they met, so that you
uncover all this stuff, get into the game and go,
oh man, we got a long way to go.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
For yourself self scouting. You see what you do, We'll
let you put out there. Because sometimes you talk about
not wanting to show too much the other team. Obviously
you don't want to risk injury in the preseason, but
you do have to prepare for the regular season. And
Panthers didn't play their starters in the third preseason game,
only played very briefly in that second game against Houston.
So Panthers again come out of the gate slowly.
Speaker 1 (33:36):
Here.
Speaker 2 (33:36):
Hopefully they can quickly learn a good mix of veteran
to go with young guys. So some of these guys
know how to play and they've had successes before, so
it's not like, yes, it's a young roster, but not
necessarily all the most key positions. I mean there are some,
but one of the young guys, Teter Aero McMillan like
seemed like one of the most accomplished today. As far
as just looking ready to play today.
Speaker 3 (33:55):
He looked like he was a veteran, to tell you
the truth, he did. He looked like, he looked like
a feeling. He looked like, you know, like a hunter Rifro.
He looked like a guy that you can depend on.
And Bryce had a comfort level throwing him to rock.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
All right, So hopefully that will continue into Arizona next
week when we come back. We'll hear from Trey Merrick,
one of the new editions on defense, the safety came
aboard from the Raiders. Hear his comments after the first game,
a loss to Jacksonville today by a score of twenty
six to ten. You're listening to Panthers Football Back.
Speaker 1 (34:21):
To the Panthers postgame show live from Bank of America Citium,
exclusively on the Carolina Panthers Radio Network.
Speaker 2 (34:33):
Pampers lose at Jacksonville twenty six to ten. Next up
another road game at Arizona one week from today. We'll
talk about all of that and here from some of
these Panther players coming up. But just now, let's pause
ten seconds for station identification. I'm the Carolina Panthers Radio Network.
All right, So the Panthers fall in this opening game,
and a lot of culprits for that on both sides
(34:54):
of the ball, offense and defense. Unfortunately in this one,
but one of the new editions coming to team on
the defensive side, safety tray Merrig. Here's his conversation with
the guys afterwards.
Speaker 13 (35:04):
We're joined by Panthers safety Trayvon Marrig. Trayvon, first game
of the season, when you guys kind of walk away
from this and I know it's fresh. What is it
that you say defensively that you feel you want to
clean up?
Speaker 17 (35:20):
Man? I think it just for us is just coming
out the gate, you know, swinging a little faster. I
think we kind of started a little slow everybody, and
we started, you know, picking it up towards the end.
But if we can maintain that throughout all four quarters,
I think we're gonna be a solid defense.
Speaker 7 (35:34):
Hey, Trayvon, this is Jake Delome.
Speaker 15 (35:36):
When you're talking about how is the whole communication piece today,
because there's many new faces on defense, right, what's the
whole communication piece?
Speaker 7 (35:43):
How did that work out today on our first game
of the year.
Speaker 17 (35:45):
Yeah, communication was good, but you know, obviously there's there's
plays that we can communicate better, and we can you know,
we I know we can do that. We've been doing
it at practice, so you know, it's nothing that we
can't do. It's just we got to clean it up,
go back in the film room and get the work.
Speaker 16 (35:57):
So Trayvon Luke here, you kind of mentioned talking to
a niche just just starting faster. Is there anything you
guys can do during the week of practice to kind
of get that thing going earlier in the game?
Speaker 17 (36:08):
Man, I think just coming out, you know, with that mentality,
you know, just trying to start off fast, you know,
stop and run in the first couple of drives and
you know, make plays in the past game when we
get them the third third down. So you know, if
we can just do that in practice, like I know
we can, and get ready for the game and then
we'll be all right cool.
Speaker 13 (36:26):
Trayvon, watching from up here, from the three of us,
it felt that, you know, it wasn't a lot of
what Jacksonville did, but there were just some missed opportunities
on both sides of the ball for you guys. Did
you guys feel the same way down there?
Speaker 7 (36:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 17 (36:37):
I think you know, it was just kind of, like
you said, just missed opportunities. Things we've we've done before
and seen before. But you know, we just got to
capitalize on those moments and trust our preparation and trust
you know, the kind of players we are to make
those kind of plays.
Speaker 2 (36:51):
Trayvon, thank you, Thank you Leading tackler of the game.
He had eleven tackles, seven solo tackles in this game.
But you've said it to the course of this postgame show,
It's like, is the things that you've got to transfer
from the practice field into the game setting, and everything's
kind of a missed opportunity. If you want to boil
it down to that phrase, you.
Speaker 3 (37:10):
Can boil it down to everything's a missed opportunity, and
you can say that, oh, yeah, we got to be
better and all those things. He's right, he's absolutely right,
But in the time when you're doing it, the edges
were terrible. The tackling was not up the par you know, So, yeah,
you're you're right, and we can do better, but don't
forget on the other side of flip side of it, they
(37:32):
had nine penalties the other the other team wasn't at
their best or they felt like they probably could take
even more advantage of what you were giving out. And
so from that standpoint, that's what I mean by being honest,
because you can go like, if we have a missed opportunity,
this and that, but when you really look at it
to each end, just the break a tackle. Oh, he
(37:54):
looked like he wanted that wanted to break that tackle,
you know, So I don't want to let him off
the hook a little bit, and I want him to
have that more responsibile And he said the right things
that you're supposed to say. But when you look at
that game, it just looked like they were better out
They were out matched by them. They didn't see I
(38:15):
didn't see the defense come up like I thought they would,
that they would play. And I think it has something
to do with the way that the Office of line play.
There was a play on a third down and one
or a fourth down and one. They pushed everybody off
the line of scrimmage. Dude, everybody got pushed back. Every
every defender got pushed back. Who was at the initial
(38:36):
uh at the initial point of attack, they all got
pushed back like a yard a yard and a half.
And I'm going, well, I can run back there and
get pick up that first first down. You know, that's
that's not gonna be hard because they were winning in
the scrimmage at least on that play.
Speaker 4 (38:52):
And so that's what I mean by that.
Speaker 3 (38:53):
It's like, yeah, it may be a misopportunity, but be
if you're being honest, dude, those times where they just
flat out.
Speaker 2 (39:01):
And these are teams that, going in Mike, were considered
to be relatively equals. It wasn't like they're playing a
playoff team. They went four and thirteen last year, and
so that I think that's probably the thing that's more
jarring is the fact that if it was like a
team that was a Super Bowl contender, that would be different.
But this was a team that is very similar to
what the Panthers are in what they're trying to become.
(39:21):
And it was not a close game today.
Speaker 5 (39:22):
Yeah, It's almost like they didn't match the same level
of intensity at the line of attack. And I think
that's what's you know, the word of the dayshen you know,
missed opportunities and frustration, right, And I think that's the
frustrating thing is, you know, I think we all felt
this team had a really good opportunity here in this
game again four and thirteen last year, but they came
out like with an attitude. Maybe it's because they were
(39:43):
playing at home, you know, and I don't know that.
Speaker 7 (39:46):
You know.
Speaker 5 (39:46):
I think we thought maybe things would change after the
hour and sixteen minute rain delay, but it really kind
of just stayed the same.
Speaker 4 (39:52):
The touchdown by B.
Speaker 3 (39:55):
Thomas Junior on that little reverse play, they have a
tight end that kind of goes in motion, look like
he's gonna block to that to the right hand side
stops and then it goes to the other side of
the field where they're gonna flip the ball coming.
Speaker 4 (40:08):
Backwards to the going on the left hand side.
Speaker 3 (40:10):
To Thomas, and the edges got dominated he walked in.
So what I'm saying to you is that that's the
edge thing. Where's the edge guy to force the ball
back into the linebacker the wallace. Who's where's that guy
to force the ball back in? There was nobody there,
So that's not a misopportunity. And I know that's not
(40:34):
a misopportunity. That's not somebody's not doing their job. Somebody's
they're beating you on that play. That's that's what I missed.
Speaker 2 (40:41):
Opportunities you dropped in interception and you got a tBu instead.
Speaker 3 (40:45):
That's exactly what And I want to make sure that
I make the distinction because those are misopportunities where somebody
just flat out beat you. That's what I'm saying that
you have to look in the mirror and say, wow, yeah,
they we're wrong here.
Speaker 4 (40:58):
We shouldn't.
Speaker 3 (40:58):
Yeah, we're wrong here. That because you know, you know,
he'd be a player if you don't push the ball out.
He doesn't push the ball out. That's not a fumble
on Bryce. But he pushed the ball out. Okay, that's
a good play by the defensive back.
Speaker 4 (41:10):
I'm not mad at that point.
Speaker 2 (41:11):
Which say the same thing about Tedron McMillan, Like on
that post route, good defensive play you credit Jacksonville. Yes,
but that's you know, nothing to hang your head over.
They won that play play. But there are things where
when you're self scouting wise, putting yourself in position to
make plays, that's a bigger gap. That's a bigger that's
gotta be cleaned up.
Speaker 5 (41:27):
And it starts with, yes, this is a team game,
but your first responsibility is to do your job and
win your one on one battle. Yes, and be in
the right position.
Speaker 3 (41:36):
Yes, it is. It has always been that way. You
always want to win that one on one better. If
I'm if I'm locked up on the receiver, I gotta
win that one. I have to win that one. I
have to do proper technique to make sure I give
myself every chance to possibly to win that battle and
not get out flank by the receiver. If it's a
man and man thing or going to big cause of
(41:56):
runner back. If I have outside control, outside response, I
got to make sure the ball does not get outside
of me, because if it gets outside of me, that
means ten other people got to chase the play.
Speaker 4 (42:07):
That's what it means.
Speaker 3 (42:08):
And so I'm like, nope, if I face push the
ball back inside, that means you got it's going back
into all my help. This's oil inside of me. I
got ten dude hungry dogs waiting for them to go
ahead and eat. That's the difference, Eugene, great thoughts there.
We got more great thoughts coming. We'll hear from Jake
and Luke and the Booth coming up next as we
continue to wrap things up in a twenty six to
ten loss on the road in Jacksonville to open the
(42:29):
regular season, here on the Carolina Panthers Radio network.
Speaker 2 (42:35):
All Right, we're doing a lot of talking in the
aftermath of the Panthers losing the opener on the road
to Jacksonville twenty six to ten. Let's check in with
the guys in Jacksonville once again, Jake Dilomb along with
Luke Kickley, and then he should get the final thoughts.
Speaker 13 (42:46):
An Ay Shrop, Jake Dilom, Luke Kickley. Panthers, oh and
one now for the fourth consecutive season falling to the
Jaguars twenty six to ten, some of the ailments from
Lamb Steer resurfaced. The defense gave up two hundred rushing yards.
The team struggled to stop the run a year ago.
Even with Derek Brown back and some new additions, they
(43:08):
struggled to stop the run. Jaguars averaged six yards per play.
That number was over eight in the first half. But Luke,
I'll start with you. We saw it on the opening drive.
Chances to get off the field for the defense couldn't
do it. Jacksonville converted some second and longs, third and longs,
and then the Panthers had six drives in Jaguar territory
(43:33):
and only ended up with what two scores. There were
a lot of missed opportunities and a lot of mistakes
that you're hoping this team can clean up, because the
Panthers did a lot of this to themselves today.
Speaker 16 (43:46):
And absolutely, And I think you look at one of
two ways and say, hey, we are sloppy, or you
can say, hey, we were in position to make those plays.
And I think what you have to look at when
you're a younger team like we are is we have
to learn how to convert on those on those situations,
We have to learn how to make those plays. We
have to learn how to minimize a bad play from
(44:06):
making it worse on an interception or fumbling the ball
when you're in position to get points. It's it's so
hard in this league to score. You got to take
the opportunity when you can. So for us, I think,
especially on the defensive side of the ball, I don't
think we tackled particularly well today.
Speaker 6 (44:20):
I don't know how gap sound we were.
Speaker 16 (44:22):
I didn't feel like we we really affected Trevor Lawrence
a ton.
Speaker 6 (44:25):
We had no sacks.
Speaker 16 (44:28):
And we didn't force any turnovers and I you know,
we had the one turnover with JC, but we just
I just didn't feel like we were affecting much around
the line of scrimmage. So for us on the defensive
side of the ball, we just have to worry about
doing our job. And I think that's really what it
comes down to do when you try to do everybody
else's job. That's what happened on the on the atn
long run, we were trying to do everybody else's job.
We ended up with two guys in one gap, and
(44:51):
we had two gaps, and that's just one thing. Sit
in your gap the defensive ends, say, is in the
outside and it's a no gameplay.
Speaker 6 (44:57):
And then when that ball pops, if you're the safe,
you got to put a top.
Speaker 16 (45:00):
You got to put an umbrella on that ball and
get down and play the next place. So for us, yeah,
it was sloppy. We jumped off sides, We played too
soft on first and twenties, made it second and tens.
Speaker 6 (45:10):
We just didn't play one off to win and the
score reflects that.
Speaker 13 (45:13):
Jake, if you're looking for a positive the Silver Linings playbook,
there was a lot to be encouraged from Tedo McMillan's
pro debut.
Speaker 7 (45:22):
Yeah, absolutely, like he was the shining star today.
Speaker 15 (45:24):
I don't think there's any doubt five receptions sixty eight
yards really and truly he had six receptions. One of
them they tackled him on a pass interference call, So
I mean, that's a completion in my mind. And it
was effortless, it was easy. It wasn't like it was
something that he struggled with. And that's the thing that
I could take a positive with. On the flip side
of it, I'm like, Luke, it's like, you know, we
had the three turnovers and plus we had turnovers with
(45:47):
turnover on downs inside the plus ten yard line going
in in this game, so.
Speaker 7 (45:52):
We had chances.
Speaker 15 (45:55):
And I think that's the thing that's so frustrating, the
way you finish out the season, and you want to
see us.
Speaker 7 (45:59):
Piggyback off of that because I.
Speaker 15 (46:01):
Don't think Jacksonville did anything to win the game. They
just didn't do anything to lose the game. And I
thought we did things to lose the games.
Speaker 13 (46:09):
And look how many times if the two of you
said it in the NFL, it's not like college. More
games are lost than one.
Speaker 16 (46:16):
Yeah, and don't I don't think we're a good enough
team right now to overcome those self inflicted wounds. I
don't think we I don't think we're able to score
very quickly. So it's kind of long, methodical drives, which
leaves opportunities for negative plays and turn in penalties. So
for us, we just have to go play clean football.
If we don't play clean football, we're quite We're not
quite there yet to overcome those issues.
Speaker 13 (46:39):
We'll leave you with this, Jake Arizona next week, two
games on the road. You just get a sense not
to make it bigger than it is, but it would
be a big deal to come home in week three
against Atlanta with at least one win. Oh, because again
we've seen the slow starts, right, you don't want that
(46:59):
to snow. You need to fight against the narrative that
it's same old, same old. And you've heard Dan Morgan said,
You've heard Dave Canalis say that exists until.
Speaker 7 (47:10):
You prove otherwise it does exist. And I know coaches
have to coach, but it's very simple. Players got to
make plays. The players have to show up and make plays.
Speaker 15 (47:22):
You know, they talk about the practices in the offseason
and some of the new editions, Well, you'd like to
see it translate on the field. We're going to Arizona,
a team we beat what in overtime last year? Right,
ran the ball right at them, beat them in overtime.
This is a team that they went to New Orleans
today beat New Orleans. They're going back home. They are
looking at this and they're starting out to and O.
That's Arizona's mindset, no doubt about it. We're looking at it.
(47:45):
We're a wounded animal that's going to travel in essence,
across the country to go play them in their home stadium.
Speaker 7 (47:51):
The crowd will be loud.
Speaker 15 (47:53):
What can we do to give ourselves a chance to win? Well,
you don't turn the ball over. It's very simple. And
that's one of the main things going into the day today.
That came and it bit us, and they gave Jacksonville
every opportunity, and then they played keep away.
Speaker 7 (48:05):
Right, it's like almost to make it take it.
Speaker 15 (48:07):
Now that they got the lead in basketball, here go
that's fine, We're just gonna slowly keep it away from
you because we know we have the lead.
Speaker 13 (48:13):
Yeah, there were opportunities today for the Panthers, but turnovers,
a couple of ill timed penalties and then not capitalizing
when they had opportunities in plus territory again. Final score,
Panthers fall to the Jaguars twenty six to ten. The upside,
there is sixteen more games left on the schedule. There's
(48:35):
a chance to get right next Sunday in Arizona. It
is a long season. Teams often make that biggest jump
between week one and week two, but you gotta do.
Speaker 6 (48:44):
It if you want to prove it all right.
Speaker 2 (48:46):
So the Panthers hoping to turn things around in week
two at Arizona after losing in Jacksonville twenty six to ten.
After a time out here Mike, another scoreboard update for you.
More to get to as we continue through the postgame
show on the Panther's As you're listening to Panthers Football.
Speaker 1 (49:02):
Back to Chim Zok live from the Bank of America
CITIU with the Panthers postgame Show exclusively on the Carolina
Panthers Radio Network.
Speaker 5 (49:14):
Back at Bank of America Stadium, Mike Pachico, Jimzoke, Eugene Robinson,
Panthers following twenty six to ten on the road at Jacksonville,
taking a look final look at our scores. We'll start
with the late games here Denver over Tennessee right now
thirteen to twelve late in the third quarter. Also in
the third quarter, Green Bay seventeen to six over Detroit.
(49:35):
Jordan Love twelve of sixteen hundred and sixty seven yards
two touchdowns in that game. Jared Goff twenty one of
twenty five one hundred and fifty two yards, no touchdowns,
but does have an interception. The Rams over the Houston
Texans fourteen to nine, and in the fourth quarter. Now
just underway in the fourth quarter, Seattle has a ten
still a ten to seven lead over San Francisco. Just
(49:57):
a couple of games wanted to just highlight from earlier.
Speaker 1 (49:59):
Today.
Speaker 5 (49:59):
The Panthers next opponent Arizona. They beat New Orleans in
New Orleans thirty to thirteen, Pittsburgh over the Jets thirty
four to thirty two. They to feel go with about
a minutes ago to win the game, and Aaron Rodgers
returned at four touchdowns in that game. And then coming
up tonight we have Baltimore at Buffalo that's at Heighmark Stadium,
(50:19):
and then tomorrow night it'll be Minnesota at Chicago.
Speaker 2 (50:22):
I have to say, Eugene, Aaron Rodgers one of the
all time Greats, four time four time MVP. I was
not expecting a four touchdown performance against his former team today.
Speaker 3 (50:31):
I've always thought that he's been one of the best
quarterbacks that we've seen in a very, very long time.
I think his release is incredible.
Speaker 4 (50:39):
He just knows the.
Speaker 3 (50:41):
Game of football, and I'm not surprised that he's through
four testyles.
Speaker 4 (50:46):
He's just that he's just that good.
Speaker 3 (50:48):
He's just that guy, and he has the confidence that
you need to have at quarterback that you can forget
if you throw interception, you can forget that because he
realized that, he said, I think.
Speaker 4 (50:58):
I could beat you with my arm.
Speaker 3 (51:00):
I'm not surprised at all that he's playing well as
well as he played well.
Speaker 5 (51:05):
I think what he has in common with Tom Brady
too is they're both I don't know if cerebral is
the right word, but they've they've mastered the mental part
of the game, the intelligence side of the game, and
they use their intelligence for what maybe they lock up
in physical like like speed and.
Speaker 3 (51:19):
Yeah, yeah, because you can't you're not gonna be able
to run like you used to be able to run
and have that capability, but your release and getting the
ball out quick and reading, uh, your first and second
and third and just kind of knowing if you see
cover two, see cover four, see cover red Blisses all
that type of stuff, and you see that stuff and go, oh,
immediately gonna go here, I'm gonna check the play to this.
Speaker 4 (51:40):
That's what he has.
Speaker 5 (51:41):
And I saw it because it was an interview this
week that Tom Brady was doing. He said exactly that.
He said, I knew I had to get the ball
out quick, otherwise I was dead.
Speaker 3 (51:48):
Meat exactly three point two seconds. If you holding the
ball for three point two seconds, typically you're gonna get sacked.
Speaker 2 (51:54):
Knocking out. Run the bear. That's sure.
Speaker 4 (51:57):
Man was coming for you, catch up with you. That's
all right, all right, guys, is he like forty five
years old?
Speaker 2 (52:04):
Is Brady now?
Speaker 4 (52:05):
Not Brady?
Speaker 2 (52:05):
I'm talking about Aaron Rodgers was forty forty. Him and
Joe Black are both forty. He's a man forty the
college football team. All right, we have one more segment
during the break. I watch you to be thinking about
who your hardest working player of the game of the
week is. You have to come up with an atcher.
By the way, you can't pass a pick one, and
so we'll get that.
Speaker 5 (52:23):
Of the password.
Speaker 2 (52:26):
You have to solve the puzzle. You have to solve
the puzzle. In the final segment of what we are
doing here piece, there's a fall in Jacksonville. More to
come next, and of course you're listening to what else
but Panthers football.
Speaker 1 (52:39):
The Panthers postgame Show continues live from Bank of America Citio,
exclusively on the Carolina Panthers Radio Network.
Speaker 2 (52:50):
All right, thanks to our crew Harold Hammerck, Jason Hutchinson,
Wendell Black, David Eaves, and Matt Hogan, along with Ben Blubbins,
Jerry Dowd, Byron Putman, Aby Martin, Eric Fiddleman, Sharon Thorne,
and David Langdon. Now time for the hardest working player
of the game. Following this twenty six to ten loss
to Jacksonville's brought to you by sun Belt Reynolds, the
official rental equipment partner of the Carolina Panthers first game
(53:13):
of the season. Mike, who you got is the hardest
working player?
Speaker 4 (53:16):
All right?
Speaker 5 (53:16):
I'm gonna go with the young man, the rookie Tedoro McMillan.
Uh really liked what I saw from him. Uh that
big play late even though it was a passing interference call.
We all thought it was a catch, but I just
liked what he like, Eugene said, I he had he
showed poise. Really liked what I saw from him. Sixty
eight yards on five catches.
Speaker 3 (53:33):
I was gonna go with Tuba, but I keep thinking
about t Mac and I'm like, nah, he played extremely well.
He was the big bright spot and I think he
proved himself to be. I'm a top receiver, I'm your go.
Speaker 5 (53:45):
To guy, and he's like the alpha I think they
need on that.
Speaker 3 (53:48):
Oh yeah, he's definitely And the fact that he has
so much rain and he's such a big receiver. I
tell you what I thought. He played, you know, really
big and if they would not have taken that, that
that that catch away on passing affair, so that holding call,
I said, I thought it was a catch and it
was a beautiful catch.
Speaker 2 (54:05):
My player choice is also t Mac. My actual choice
that was Sharon Thorsland. Battled the heat, heat, humidity, and
the ninety minute weather delay, dodging lightning out there in
the elements. For all of that, players went into the tunnel,
they went into the locker room, stayed out there. She
stayed out there. She was at the fifty yard line
the whole time. Never came in and I think she
(54:26):
was holding a kite with a key.
Speaker 3 (54:27):
That's right, you know, I'm taking it. I'm taking it back.
I'm going with you with Thorn.
Speaker 2 (54:31):
I mean, who worked harder today than than Sharon Thorston?
Speaker 5 (54:34):
Certainly not us.
Speaker 2 (54:35):
But I said it's a player segment. T Mac is
my player selection for that as well. Guys, any final
thoughts from here with the three and outs here before
we head out the door.
Speaker 4 (54:44):
Look in the mirror.
Speaker 3 (54:45):
This is no three and out for me. It's just
it's the man in the mirror. Make sure that you'd
be real honest with yourself and not use his words
lu change.
Speaker 4 (54:57):
Yeah so, but you know, I want to make sure
that you don't like I.
Speaker 3 (55:04):
Don't want you to hide behind it was missed opportunities.
I think that you need to be really honest with
yourself where places where the edges weren't contained, and things
that you did defensively that you do your accountability.
Speaker 4 (55:17):
Yeah so account and I think.
Speaker 5 (55:19):
It's time to do it. I mean, we can talk
about it, but you know it's time to just go
out there. It's kind of dovetailing on the man in
the merraort thing.
Speaker 2 (55:25):
It's you got to focus on.
Speaker 5 (55:30):
Make that good moonwalking. Is he's doing this, that's excellent,
But I just it's time to to talk. Is cheap
portion is over and now it's you got to win
your matchups and do your job.
Speaker 2 (55:42):
It's only one game for one season, and so next
week's the new opportunity to Arizona. But I feel the
frustration of what the fan base is, which is seven years. Yes,
if you break a mirror, speak of mirror, seven years
bad luck. Yeah. I feel like they have a seven
year losing streak here as far as not having a
winning record, So I think that the the leash is
short as far as people's giving you time for young
(56:05):
and development. I think they want to see the record
improve this year and this team be competitive. So hopefully
today is over and that they're mad at it and
come back at Arizona next week and make this one
to be like the char Heels, you know, lose your
first game, look awful, come back and win the next week.
Speaker 4 (56:21):
So hopefully something like that.
Speaker 5 (56:22):
But I think the one thing we've seen though over
the past couple years, and I think this is why
the sense of urgency is there is this can snowball fast,
and we want to avoid the snowball and get to
your point where you know with the old expression like
the biggest improvement's been week one and week two. Well,
hopefully they make that big jump and have a good
game next week.
Speaker 3 (56:38):
That's why winning is important and doing things right is
important because it builds confidence and it becomes contagious.
Speaker 2 (56:44):
All right, Eugene Mike, Always a pleasure. Enjoy it. Do
it again next week. Panthers on the road next week
at Arizona.
