Speaker 1 (00:01):
How you feeling.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Feeling really good man, really blessed Christian.
Speaker 3 (00:06):
You've been this sort of a social media and sort
of teasing that's come back season, if you will. What
puts you the confidence after you know, dealing with a
serious enough that not once to place last year the
US are good?
Speaker 4 (00:19):
Well, confidence is really just like you know who I am,
where I came from. You know what I'm saying it
just you know, my family supported me, My teammates supported me,
the medical teams supported me, and they you know make
me just you know, like you know, grind hard every
day to make me you know, just like you know
the guy that just wanna keep working hard, just like
the guy that wants to keep you know, keep getting better,
and just like literally just you know, worry about the future.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
It's the biggest challenge.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
The challenge really just you know, just you know, how
can I say it just the bathroom with myself, you
know what I'm saying, just you know, like, let you know,
like last year really hit me because like you know,
I'm using it as motivation and anger because you know,
just making me work even harder because like you know,
that situation and was like, uh, I could've lost a lot,
and literally, you know, all the work I put in
coulda been you know, tooken away, and I've been really hurt.
(01:07):
So just like you know, I can never take things
for granted and just keep on working even harder and
just you know, keep doing god playing, you know, Chris,
and and you had to.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
Think any changes, uh, either physically in what you do
or did.
Speaker 5 (01:21):
You diet or anything specific to kind of help you
along with the process.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
I mean, you know, die well, I w I really
was never a god to like, you know, be overweight.
You know, I was never a type of god to
be like, you know, forty pounds every weigh. I never
came in since I've been in the league, you know,
like overweight. Don't be wrong, I've probably been up a lot,
but I never been like overly like weight. But I say, like,
you know, just about being really healthy, you know, and
just you know, stay away from sign stuff, you know,
really just doing like a lot of cardio whiles.
Speaker 6 (01:49):
Christian I don't know, just told us to the day
that you guys have to some effects.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Going on getting here first.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
Yes, my guy, yeah, my boy, yeah, yeah, it's like
you know, we'd be like he said, like you know whoever,
like we be see if the first one in the
weight room, who are the first one to me?
Speaker 2 (02:02):
He roung you know, we be always going at it.
Speaker 4 (02:03):
My guy, you know, he just he make me work
hard man, and he's a hell of a worker, a
hell of a guy, you know, healthy player. So it
just you know, really excited definitely to see him and
just really excited you know, you know, be be right
with him.
Speaker 7 (02:14):
He's in your feeling.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
I really got at to me take us to a
lot of but it's like, can you give us a
little more detail.
Speaker 8 (02:20):
I'm just like you've seen you out there, Eve, because the.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Videos with you out there with the two is how's
y'all going yet?
Speaker 4 (02:25):
What's that status of really just enjoying the game that
I love again, you know, just not worrying about the
stuff that was holding me back from you know last
year stuff you know, and really just you know, enjoying
you know and blessing me playing the game.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
You know, just feeling better, you know, keep.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
Getting better, you know, feeling good, more confidence in myself,
back to my you know, breathing. So it's just like,
you know, I'm just feeling really good, you know, talking
my smack yeah all that.
Speaker 5 (02:49):
Yeah, Christian, uh are you are you excited about potentially
want the defense who you who know changes on the defensive?
Excited about the impact potentially may the guys can make.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
Yes, I'm really excited, really excited because we g I
got literally like we got some hungry dogs literally and
it's just there's stuff like, you know, I'm really excited.
It's just like how like how's it like really looking
like I'm really like I look at them, the team
like all the time.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
I'm like, yeah, like.
Speaker 4 (03:22):
It's gonna be it's gonna be a dog like, it's
gonna be good. But I feel I just feel like,
you know, it's a guy, like a real good you know,
just love the defense.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
So if you're got your trash coffee baptist the best
time so.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
Far, I say me, key on, you know, key on.
You know we be just talking small. You know it's
my guy. You know, we be just gonna add you know,
let like you know, me be competing, you know what
I mean, him, you know, just starting stuff.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
You know who puts more weight? You know he's strong
at hell. So like, yeah, my guy, you're tying. You
turn to probing so much.
Speaker 5 (03:48):
Then they're not here.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
They know what cost you turn undy clouds in the curtains.
That's so next week I'm talking, I took any since
you're out there working. You you didn't clear field football
at Technoy, you know it's you think clears for football,
antenv s whatever. Yeah, that's so. Yeah, obviously things can
change any now in September.
Speaker 5 (04:07):
But do you anticipate being ready to go before we want?
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Yeah? Yeah, that's the go. Yeah. You know, I just
gotta keep following the medical teams.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
But everything' looking real well yeah.
Speaker 6 (04:16):
Prisimally you are you a full participant when it goes
to practices?
Speaker 2 (04:19):
It got one next week?
Speaker 8 (04:20):
Yeah, Christian, go back to last seon how difficult was
that kind of roller coaster of being away, coming back,
having to step away again, just that whole.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
Process, that's it.
Speaker 4 (04:32):
Yes, I mean it was hardly hard, man Like, it
was one of the hardest talents you know of me,
you know really because.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
I wanted to be out there. I wanted to support
my brothers.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
You know, I feel like I did everything my power
just you know, just wanted to come back, and especially me,
I wasn't you know, it wasn't the way it wasn't,
you know, still there, and I was just, you know,
cause like how much I care about this team and
how much I care about my brothers, I wanted to
do everything my power to come back, but you know,
functually that's I wasn't not ready to come back. And
it's just unfortunately, like you know, I paid my faith
in God, you know, and just just keep on, you know,
(05:06):
listen to the medical team and just you know, keep
just keep doing what I gotta do.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
And it's all I can say.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
Who haven't been through what you've been for?
Speaker 6 (05:14):
You know, you get to come back play football and
then you're told if you can again.
Speaker 7 (05:17):
What what were you feeling.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
In December when the symptoms recur?
Speaker 2 (05:22):
What happened next?
Speaker 4 (05:25):
I said, I was really confusing, anger, and just really
like mind blowing because like I was paying a lot
of work here at that time, and it's like all
that work I put it for none. It feels like
it's like cause I was doing everything I can just
to come back for this team last year, and.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
It's just like, you know, like.
Speaker 4 (05:44):
I don't ever want it ever be in a situation again,
or who who anybody in the world to go through
that because like that stuff was not no joke, and
it's like somebody's just like it was just like a
hard challenge.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
Like i'd say, were you afraided all that they might
recur again? No, m I'm curious to new coaching stuff.
Speaker 8 (06:03):
That's tell all you were working with you.
Speaker 5 (06:04):
I'm kind of night Braval.
Speaker 7 (06:06):
Then with what happened to you and how's that kind
of been.
Speaker 5 (06:10):
Kind of changing, kind of having to explain maybe a
little bit more about what you went through last year
and how that applies.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
To this year.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
Like verbe Man, just a guy that you know I
could talk to, Just a guy that you know, he's
like literally every time I talked to him, he's there
for me, you know, just a god that literally hu
he teld he told me you needy Dan, Like literally
like just a guy that I really respect because like
he played a game and he know, he knows, he
knows like h how you know how the game goes,
and he just like I just love talking to him
(06:36):
and he just he picked me up and I really
respect that man.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
Yeah, like you thank you, thank you for sat that.
Speaker 7 (06:44):
He's going a yeah, yeah, definitely thanks for making contract.
Yeah absolutely, I just go ahead and go for here.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
How's unming on treating so far?
Speaker 6 (06:56):
Yeah, that's been great, especially when we get some nice weather.
Had a few good days like that. He finally got my,
my wife and some moved out here. So doing a
little bit of exploring, getting to know the city, getting
the area. It's a it's been it's been nice for sure.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
So let's what's up.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
It's a doctor in nickname?
Speaker 2 (07:11):
Uh is that coach brable or not? An start? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (07:14):
I guess that was my rookie year. He's just started
calling me doctor Gibbee. Uh like in rookie mini camp
and stuff.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
Uh, I was answered.
Speaker 6 (07:21):
He likes to ask a lot of questions quiz people
and I answered a few write and he started calling
me doctor. I had to let him know that I
didn't study medicine school, but uh yeah, he's let me
know it was a joke.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
So when you come back here, is that that continued
just him?
Speaker 1 (07:35):
Really?
Speaker 6 (07:35):
Not many other people have caught on to it, but
uh yeah, he still calls me doc every now and then.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
What's the idea to playing for Yeah?
Speaker 6 (07:43):
I definitely just really appreciate, uh the type of program
that he builds where it's built on effort and knowing
what to do, playing really hard, being accountable to your teammates.
He hold everyone to the same standard, and I think
he gives opportunities. He always says that they're gonna treat
you how you treat the team, and uh, I really
appreciated that with my time in Tennessee. And that's a
a big reason why I wanted to come out here,
is just I just love the accountability and kind of
(08:03):
the you get what you work for here.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
What does that mean, Mike?
Speaker 6 (08:07):
You said that a number of times, how you treat
the team in your in your mind.
Speaker 5 (08:11):
With what does that mean?
Speaker 2 (08:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (08:12):
So, I mean if you treat the team right, you
show up every day prepared, you play hard, you're a
good teammate, like, then they're gonna treat you the right way.
If you're somebody who's not, uh, like, you're just not
gonna get as many opportunities. If you're not holding up
your into the bargain as far as being a pro,
how you play, the effort you play with, the way
you respect the game, respect your teammates and stuff. That's
not the type of people that we really want in
this program.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
So that's a good's realm when you hear and I
think considings and stuff that.
Speaker 6 (08:38):
Yeah, I think Zach's done a great job stepping up
and kind of filling in where that is. But we're
definitely super excited to get big T back. I had
a chance to get a relationship with him in Tennessee
and he's awesome. We're definitely thinking about him, praying, praying
for him, and excited to get him back. Yeah, he's
just at least obviously when I was with him, we
had a different relationship a little bit. He was a
(08:58):
defensive line coach, so he wasn't up in front of
the room a lot. But just as a person great
with making relationships. I feel like he really lets you
know that he believes in you, cares about you as
a person and a player, and just I really enjoyed
spending time with him for sure.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Sounds a good grant.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
Thank you?
Speaker 5 (09:13):
Yes, how is that?
Speaker 8 (09:15):
How are you feeling from this?
Speaker 4 (09:17):
Austin them?
Speaker 2 (09:18):
That's going good.
Speaker 6 (09:19):
I'm out there doing everything and kind of working through it,
trying to get myself back to full strength, but rehabbing hard,
trying to get more comfortable out there every day, and
it's just yeah, it's a process, but it's going well.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
It sounds like connectivity has been a big theme of
the program specific to the position at linebacker, whether you're
sort of learning about the connection with guys.
Speaker 7 (09:41):
Like Spelling and others.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
Yeah, I think we have an awesome room.
Speaker 6 (09:45):
We've got a lot of guys with a ton of experience,
a lot have played a lot of ball, a lot
of guys that are this more kind of one of
the more veteran rooms that I've been in. Most of
the guys kind of married, have kids, that kind of stuff,
and so I've really enjoyed that kind of being in
that same stage of life, just getting to know the
these guys and the young guys too.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
But it's just I feel like we have a really
good group. We're really connected.
Speaker 6 (10:04):
We're all competing but pulling in the same direction and
helping each other out just talking ball talk in life.
It's it's been awesome to be a part of.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
For sure, the new guys learning the system. You're obviously
familiar with, how to those conversations go debaately on you
are other guys who have played for Braves, and.
Speaker 6 (10:23):
Yeah, I try to help out where I can if
there's questions, But also a lot of the Like I said,
a lot of these guys have a lot of experience
with things they've done other places or similar things that
they've done, just maybe calling it different names. So it's
honestly more just a conversation about this is how we
we've tried to do it within the past in this system,
this is what you've maybe done, kind of what we
like about that, how we're gonna kind of blend it
all together and make it work together. But definitely, yeah,
(10:45):
trying to be a resource of guys knowing the system
and kind of being familiar with that terminology and stuff
to help out wherever I can. But like I said,
the big, big bonus of having an experienced group like
this is that we we're kind of taking the next
level and talking ball and what other teams might do
and the beaters to what we're trying to do and stuff.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
So it's been really cool to see that.
Speaker 8 (11:02):
What's an example of that, like dug next level, that's
that's unusual.
Speaker 6 (11:05):
For may you know, Yeah, I think that that's something
that we're trying to, Like we're trying to get the
playbook install, but we're kind of getting hung up on like, well,
if they give us this route concept.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
Like this is the this that could beat this coverage?
Speaker 6 (11:15):
Or how is how are we going to adjust for that,
or what kind of things we might put in gap
game plan wise to handle some of those things in
certain coverages. It's just been really good in depth conversations
in the linebacker room.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
For sure.
Speaker 5 (11:25):
I can ask you to bat and the last year's
game against the Patriots and Drake May what do you
recall about latching him, preparing for him, and then actually
seeing him play, particularly on the way that keep them.
Speaker 6 (11:37):
Yeah, definitely came out of that game with a ton
of respect for him, the competitor that he is, the
team as a whole, just kind of how how they
fought and Drake specifically, his mobility was, I mean on
full display against us. We couldn't keep him in the pocket,
he was running all over us, and then just kind
of you see kind of the competitiveness the creativity has
with that last touchdown, scrambling around find making it happen.
So definitely came out of there with the water respect
(11:59):
for his game and the team as a whole, for sure.
Speaker 5 (12:01):
Take two more, guys, you're only back day last year
of Drake Is that something you'll reminded.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
Me of something.
Speaker 6 (12:07):
No, I honestly forgot about that. I think that was
my only side last year, but uh, no I did.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
I haven't.
Speaker 6 (12:12):
I haven't brought that up, but I definitely will have
to now.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
Jack good, this your journey long long ups right, Yeah,
just sort of big cat that and then explaining this
offseason how you.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
Ended up here.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
I know they didn't tender you and wants lent you
here and you had other options.
Speaker 6 (12:29):
Yeah, it's kind of been a crazy journey for me,
just trying to like I said, coming in as an
undrafted guy, had to kind of fight and scratch for
every opportunity I got, and uh got the opportunity to
get on the field a little bit in Tennessee, felt
like I had some success, and then last year was
kind of a rocky year for me with some stuff
happening kind of outside of my control. But then I
got my opportunity, I felt like I was playing good
(12:49):
and then go down with an injury. So it's kind
of just been That's kind of just been the story
of my career. But just trying to stay resilient, keep
working hard, and just continue to fight and earn for
U earn any opportunities that I can get and then
make the most fun and I get it. And the
big reason when to come here was just familiarity with
this coaching staff, with the type of football they want
to play here. I feel like it aligns with who
I am and the type of player in person I
try to be, so I wanted to get back in
(13:10):
that environment.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
Thanks, thanks for all doing
