Speaker 1 (00:00):
That space.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
So we need to just do what we've done, which
is prepare, make sure we're where we need to be
when we need to be there. Those are going to
be the most important things in a week that can
be challenging, So we just need to focus on this.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
Week because that's the only thing that matters. I'm put
Joshua Farmer. It's a great story to begin with. What's
his development been like to watch?
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Yeah, I think just consistently consistent improvement right in his fundamentals,
trying to find details to help him play faster. You know,
I think a lot of young players early on in
the process, they see everything which you never want to
see too much. So I think he's starting now to
trust his technique. Right, There's some details and techniques that
(00:41):
we talk about that are that are helping him be able.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
To play faster.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
So that's the exciting thing with all these guys, and
it's not just him. I think every guy in that room.
Improvement is all we talk about, like that's everyone in
that room has room to improve and they should.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
And lastly for me is you see if you watch
from training camp on every practice and then games, now,
I think the viewers start to see Durden show up.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
He keeps showing up.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
Is he kind of like that? Does he make that
impression on you as well? What's been his key to
really coming up with some good plays when you need it?
Speaker 3 (01:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:15):
The thing with Corey, I think he's he's been around
the league for a while now, been on multiple teams,
but he showed up here and he earned a job.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
That's that's what it was. And it wasn't through talking
about anything.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
It was just through the way he practiced right, the
techniques that we talk about, the fundamentals, playing with effort,
and then when we asked him to do it in
a game, he did so.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
He he earned more opportunities. That's the thing. You know,
you're you're gonna get what you earn. So he's earned
more opportunities.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
And as long as he keeps playing the way that
we need him to as a team, he'll he'll keep
earning their ops.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
I remember, well, what's the far more motor like for you?
Speaker 5 (01:51):
Motor?
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Yeah, he's running one hundred.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Yeah, absolutely, So I love coaching him. I'm I'm excited
for him, and I think he's been an extremely valuable
player to the defense. Like his the things that he
does don't always show up in the stat in the
stack columns, all right, but he he makes plays, right,
that doesn't always it may not be tackles, but he
makes plays for the defense, which is important.
Speaker 5 (02:17):
I'm done.
Speaker 6 (02:18):
You pound the rock, hit some shot plays or some
move to quarterback plays quick game and then obviously create
field position in special teams for their defense and playing
lights out. But kind of similar to us in terms
of want to make it a smash mount style of
(02:39):
game and see who comes out in fourth court.
Speaker 5 (02:42):
I just know Marcus Jones. It seems like he's really
excelling this year the slot. Just what have you seen
from him.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
In his defensive play?
Speaker 6 (02:48):
Consistency every day he comes out, he works hard, he's
very active in the meeting room.
Speaker 5 (02:55):
He's got good perspective, good.
Speaker 6 (02:57):
Instinct, good savvy, and he's made a lot of plays
that are coming his way, you know.
Speaker 5 (03:01):
And that's on the defensive side. And the special teams
has some things that.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
Done some good things there.
Speaker 6 (03:06):
But I see consistency every day, you know, he just
comes to work, does his job and keeps a movie.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
How fun of it has this been for you?
Speaker 6 (03:14):
Gonzo Carlton Davis, Yeah, Yeah, some good quarterbacks.
Speaker 5 (03:17):
Yeah, for sure, guys that you know.
Speaker 6 (03:20):
For me, it has been a lot of learning them
as they're probably learning me.
Speaker 5 (03:25):
But watching them go out and compete is what's.
Speaker 6 (03:28):
The most fum. Obviously we're in the tenseness of the
game to where's we want to get the outcome that
you desire, but just watching the way that they go compete,
where they go about their business has been Like you said,
it's been fun.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
After Gunzo is so much time.
Speaker 5 (03:42):
So what do you feel he is? You know at
this point, and to me feels like he's.
Speaker 6 (03:45):
Starting to settle into having his game legs where he's
out there of the first game. Talked to him afterwards
and he was just like, I get my legs back.
Well that's to be expected. But he's he's a competitive guy,
you know, and each day when he goes about his business,
he doesn't much and he's not gonna make a big scene,
but he shows up when he needs to show up.
And but yeah, it's it's fun to be able to
(04:08):
coach those guys and to continue to build our relationship.
Speaker 7 (04:10):
I know it's a game playing decision week to week,
but you know, the rate of man coverage is going
down the last three weeks, and I know part that's
probably performance, but also just scheme, like what what do
you see or what's behind it.
Speaker 6 (04:21):
Well, for one, I see us as a defensive staff
putting together a plan we feel like it's gonna help
us win the game. And then the other part of
it is in zone coverage. At the end of the day,
it becomes man coverage, you know. I mean, there's there's
a lot of it that becomes that, but it's you know,
you see some of that, and there's levels to it
where you put a lot of it on films, so
you start to see some of the beaters for that,
(04:43):
and you try to put guys in position in that way.
But for the most part, it's we watch the opponent
and we say, is man coverage the best way to
defend them? Try to keep yards and points down or
his zone coverage, and then we put the plan together.
In the past few weeks has been day's kind of
having some zone eyes on the quarterback guys that can
extend plays and scramble and.
Speaker 5 (05:03):
That's been helpful for us.
Speaker 6 (05:04):
But the end of the day, we just want to win,
and if that means man will play man, if that
means his own plays off.
Speaker 7 (05:09):
Yeah. I asked Quod for Its yesterday about Ralph because
we haven't talked to him or seen him recently, and
he said he's in conspiracies around the meetings. What does
that mean for you personally? Just for guy who's going
through what he is to still be in those meetings, Yeah,
and with the team.
Speaker 5 (05:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (05:24):
Well, I hate it for him because I know that
he's got to be carrying a lot more than what
he lets on. But it is inspiring to see, you know,
knowing what he's dealing with and what he's carrying, that
he's still here joking laughing.
Speaker 5 (05:38):
Because it makes me.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
It reminds me to not.
Speaker 6 (05:42):
Feel sorry for myself because here's a guy that's coming
in and not only is he enjoying himself, he's bringing
life and spirit when he's here.
Speaker 5 (05:50):
And I know that he doesn't feel.
Speaker 6 (05:51):
Like doing that, but he is anyways, and that means
a lie.
Speaker 5 (05:54):
Like I said, it inspires me.
Speaker 7 (05:56):
Heard Marcus is getting some gifts too with the takeaways.
Speaker 5 (06:00):
He's got a good, good lineup of gifts. Does it
do this year? Do you know? To my knowledge it is?
Speaker 6 (06:05):
We didn't in Tennessee unless there was something I didn't know,
but it wasn't like a whole unit wide thing. I
think in Detroit maybe they had some stuff like that,
but uh, in my experience with this staff, it is new.
But it's also it's encouraging for guys to.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Take them all away.
Speaker 7 (06:19):
Yeah, Yeah, it's cool. I like hearing about it, you know,
because again, we obviously, you know, cover all everything around
the team, but on a human level, stuff like that,
I think it's the most important for sure.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
It's cool.
Speaker 5 (06:30):
Great to hear.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
Yeah, I appreciate you taking.
Speaker 5 (06:32):
That to.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
How much can you start rolling TV?
Speaker 5 (06:36):
You watch.
Speaker 9 (06:38):
Start off with I know we talked about this last week, Pat,
but just some of the soul starts on defense? How
do you guys prevent that against Steve Michael frowns.
Speaker 10 (06:48):
Yeah, I'd say we're trying everything possible. There's no stone
going on turn, uh you know, which gotta come out
with some better energy and then hopefully that translates to
the execution and uh, you know, we're we're trying everything
possible in practice right now to kind of uh simulate that.
Speaker 9 (07:10):
Jack Gibbons was saying that sometimes it takes a play
for you goos to kind of round back into shape
that a big play would be helpful or really can
you prepare for that? How do you practice that? No?
Speaker 10 (07:23):
I mean it's really like what Gibby's trying to say
is like somebody's just got to make the first play
and get your juice going, and uh, you know it's
it's like I said, it's the guy has come up
with some energy, you know, mastering the details the techniques
of the fundamentals, and.
Speaker 11 (07:39):
Someone trying to go make that first play when it
comes to the starts the games like and not even
never trying to give up yards, but like is there
already like sort of letting the game declare and see
what they're trying to do to you guys.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
No, I wouldn't say that.
Speaker 10 (07:53):
I think that's just all It might seem like coincidence
something like that.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
You know, we're trying to just to give up yards
like that. Yeah, I don't. I don't that's nothing on
purpose or anything like that. No, I think it was
on purpose.
Speaker 12 (08:04):
I just wondering if you know, obviously guys are making
indjustments once you get into the game.
Speaker 10 (08:09):
Yeah, well yeah, when it's settling down, it's it's okay.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
Like like I kind of said last week.
Speaker 10 (08:18):
Sometimes you're like, hey, we gotta we gotta step it up,
all right, and the offense is firing off early, and
we gotta we gotta do it for them now, we
gotta pull our apart. I think it's them coming together
and it's a testament to the players and you know,
and the coaches on the sideline, how we communicate player
to player, coach, the coach, coach the player that we're
pretty in tune on the sideline.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
We see you guys have.
Speaker 9 (08:40):
Been really stout against the run so far.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
What's been the biggest factor on that?
Speaker 5 (08:46):
Uh?
Speaker 10 (08:47):
I think, I mean there's a lot of things, you know. One,
I think it's the culture that that Braves has built too.
I think it's a commitment because it takes all eleven
in the run game. I mean, it takes all eleven everything.
But you know, corner is showing up to tack cool,
you know, building a wall, you know, setting an edge,
building a wall, swarming, and it's just that commitment to
(09:08):
that play style and then working with each other.
Speaker 4 (09:11):
There any difference preparing for rookie quarterback.
Speaker 12 (09:15):
As opposed to someone who's been around the block.
Speaker 10 (09:22):
You know, I would say with veteran quarterbacks, you gotta
be prepared for you know how well they know the game.
I wouldn't say you prepare for a rookie differently, but definitely.
You know, when you go against like an Aaron Rodgers
versus a rookie, you know you might have to have
(09:42):
some extra layers to some.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
Stuff for an Aaron Rodgers versus the rookie.
Speaker 10 (09:46):
I don't know if you go in game planning completely
different for it, but yeah, you definitely want to take
advantge a little bit.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
Of the inexperience.
Speaker 10 (09:55):
Does that mean.
Speaker 12 (09:57):
More disguise or more ways to try and get him
to hesitate, pause and wonder what the.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
Heck you' seeing?
Speaker 1 (10:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (10:06):
Yeah, you do try to confuse a rookie quarterback as
much as possible.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
You try to do that with everybody.
Speaker 10 (10:12):
There's some things that you can definitely get away with
with the rookiequarterback.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
You might not be able to get away with the
fifteen year vet. But yeah, those are.
Speaker 12 (10:19):
Good points when it comes to just the man coverage
stuff does have some good reps, not some good reps,
and just what are you kind of seeing right now
on film with how you guys are man at up
right now.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
Yeah, I mean I have no concern with our man coverage.
Speaker 10 (10:35):
I think just like I said at the run game,
it takes eleven people, you know, kind of like how
Ravees talked about with ball security and offense, like it's
not just the one guy, it's you know, protecting a
guy on with the ball. Same thing with man coverage,
like it takes the front and the back end. You know,
the front can't let the routes develop so long where
(10:56):
you got to cover that long, and then the coverage
has to be in their man at the front eat
you know. I mean, so it works hand in hand.
I mean some plays and there's some scheme plays that
can get you okay, but yeah, I got no issues
with that.
Speaker 3 (11:12):
We're head the man. We can always be better. Details are,
our techniques are fundamentals. But I got no concerns with
that at all. Thank you.
Speaker 12 (11:19):
Thanks.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
Yeah, I appreciate.
Speaker 5 (11:21):
Y'all finishing plays all that. He's a good one.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
We've seen.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
We've seen Kean kind of ride the little bit this. Yeah,
maybe at least churches from the outside. I know he's
dealt with some health stuff and I know some guys
the scheme trying to pick up some nuances on the
new scheme has been a challenge. But but from your perspective,
what is he kind of going through this year? And
sure just understand from the outside. Yeah, I think you
(11:49):
I think you hit on it. I think you know,
the three games is missed. You know, it's that some
health stuff.
Speaker 13 (11:54):
New position is just continual learning and continue just getting
in a rhythm. You know. It's it's tough when you
miss that those amount of games and practices and stuff
like that. And it's for him, it's just to continue
and to learn the position and stay healthy and and
some things you just can't control, you know, and and
just try to stay positive.
Speaker 5 (12:14):
And and just work through those things. But you're exactly right.
I was agreeable about the main coverag juice is kind
of gone down.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
It's not necessarily a department.
Speaker 5 (12:23):
But he said that the passwords was part of that.
So I'm just curious, what.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
Have you seen maybe in those instances.
Speaker 13 (12:27):
How could the group be better and maybe where have
they shown some promits?
Speaker 5 (12:30):
Uh pass rush. Yes, you know, we can always get better.
There's a lot of things that we can.
Speaker 13 (12:36):
Get better, setting up our moves to what kind of
block are they giving us they said vertical. You know,
some of these tackles are doing a better job I've
seen in the past of mixing up their sets, being
better in our games, you know, our pass rush games
when we need to pick and penetrate, you know, better
at get offs.
Speaker 5 (12:54):
You know, there's a lot of things that we can
continue to prove improve on our hands. You know, our hangs.
Speaker 13 (13:00):
You can can slop you at times. But how you doing,
Mane good to see it. H Just things like that,
you know, just uh, you know, staying within the in
the rush plan. You know, I think these guys are
doing a lot of good things, but there's still a
lot of things we can continue to getting better at.
Speaker 9 (13:15):
You guys out of kaled Marphia this week, just like
what do you look at him on the edge?
Speaker 13 (13:19):
Yeah, it's been early, you know, I like you tell,
you know, I clicked on his stuff the other night
that he's played reps. You know you can tell he's
a he's a smart player's football like Q. He's always
in the right place. You know, he's got a nice
little cross shop that I saw on film and a
couple of times out here, picks up things quick. You know,
it's tough coming right in and learning a whole package
(13:40):
and you know, you got five or six different you know,
personnel packages and finding.
Speaker 5 (13:44):
A spot for him, and but just notice how quick
he picks it up. You know, it's whole plays. Today
we're in pads.
Speaker 13 (13:51):
It's nice to see somebody, you know, yesterday not being
in pads, seeing somebody got through his body around.
Speaker 5 (13:55):
A little bit, So that was good to see.
Speaker 13 (13:57):
But just getting familiar with them, kind of really figure
out what his style is and how he likes to rush,
and then you know, how can we build off of that?
You know, you talk about you know our pass rush
on our pass rush plan.
Speaker 5 (14:08):
Sticking with it.
Speaker 13 (14:09):
You know, we've got these moves, but how we intact
this tackle this week versus what he does with his
hands and how he sits back.
Speaker 5 (14:15):
They're just different things that that that we can build
off of what he does.
Speaker 3 (14:20):
You followed his journey.
Speaker 6 (14:21):
You don't like when you proclaim a guy like that.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
You see that like he was a D two.
Speaker 4 (14:25):
I think a fair estate have like twenty five and
a half sacks there?
Speaker 6 (14:28):
Sacks?
Speaker 7 (14:29):
Right?
Speaker 3 (14:31):
Do you like look into that stuff or anything like that?
Speaker 13 (14:33):
When he did when he first gets here. I like
to read because you know, I've watched so many guys
in the in the off seasons every year and during
the draft.
Speaker 5 (14:39):
I mean, I try to watch every edge guy.
Speaker 13 (14:41):
If I can't find a guy like Ponder or something,
you know, so I have to go back.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
But I did. I read.
Speaker 5 (14:46):
I was like, gosh iver.
Speaker 13 (14:49):
Here, Yeah, you know, so obviously you don't care where
you go. You get that many sacks, you know, that
says something, you know, because a lot of pass rush
is natural. You can teach them all this stuff, but
there's the instincts that that just come with it as well.
Speaker 5 (15:01):
That helps a lot.
Speaker 9 (15:03):
Was saying that you'd like to see some more pressure
of the day on early downs.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
How do you generate that?
Speaker 3 (15:10):
You know?
Speaker 13 (15:10):
The thing with early downs and and in these play
passes that we get usually it's it's it's block it up.
You know, you got two tight ends. You might be
in a crease alignment with two tight ends. You know,
it could be a tackle. I mean, you're playing running's
giving me a run stance and you get into it
is just converting as fast as possible, getting our hips around,
getting up the field and getting them off of us.
(15:30):
You know, if it's if it's a tight end. You
won't get more minuses in a box. You get blood
back tight play pass. But uh, it's just recognizing it
as fast as possible and getting up the field and
and getting your hips to the quarterback and.
Speaker 5 (15:44):
And and going.
Speaker 13 (15:46):
But you know that's kind of the thing now if
the quarterbacks not getting rid of it early on third downs,
I think first, Like now, it's like a lot of
play passes and stuff. You know, like I said last week,
we're not gonna be a team that's just gonna you know,
guess and and and be up the field on and
great run creases and and stuff like that. But that's
the main thing we do have to get better at
and working, yeah, feeling leverage and get him lean one way,
(16:09):
getting hands off and there's a lot of stuff that
we got to get better at with that. But it's
definitely a thing that that's just showing up.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
I know you're not game planning for him this week,
but as a position coach, what's your level of appreciation
for a.
Speaker 5 (16:20):
Guy like Milescarre. Uh, just because he's a big athletic
human being. I mean, I so one the other day
he was on fhild goal block.
Speaker 13 (16:28):
And he jumped over a freaking guy and flat footed,
but just how big and athletic. And I love to
watch him rush when he when he works his edge stuff.
I mean, he's he's so big athletic, and how he
can bend and you just see that natural bend and
he's he's tough to block. I mean, there's just not
a lot of human beings on this earth that can
that can bend like.
Speaker 5 (16:49):
That, at that speed and at that size.
Speaker 13 (16:51):
And and he's violent, you know, I mean, he's I
think God created a pass rusher.
Speaker 5 (16:57):
He probably he probably molled him into mild Garrett.
Speaker 13 (17:00):
But I love watching, you know, every week talk about
you know, the pff I go through all those guys,
you know, because I think.
Speaker 5 (17:07):
There's a lot of great things you can learn from them,
from all of them.
Speaker 13 (17:10):
No matter who the rusher is, there's always some elements,
always the same with every rush.
Speaker 5 (17:14):
You know, how tidy is to the blocker on his
chopping lean or his rips, his speed rips.
Speaker 13 (17:19):
You know, there's not a lot of space for the
lineman to recover, you know, if it's a guy's long
arm or stabbing swipe his scissors's all whatever you do
with that some elements the same. So I like watching
all these guys and see why they were you know,
t J. Watt got eleven pressures.
Speaker 5 (17:32):
What was he doing? You know?
Speaker 13 (17:34):
Is it a tackle set that we might see or
something that might be a little bit different, you know,
But yeah, he's a fun one to watch, he really is.
Speaker 5 (17:43):
I apologize if your assets, but at practice today, that's
how you're working with Kleb And it looked like you
were brough housing him at one point, Like, oh yeah,
what was that. It's a superstitious thing. I always anybody
knew to the room. So what I do is I
get this.
Speaker 13 (17:57):
Crash mat out and I fact like we're doing this
tackle drill. So we're gonna work on a wrap and
roll and you know, Casey actually had a miss wrapping
roll and against Carolina he went high and rolled off
the back. You guys remember that. But so I have
a couple of guys do it first, and then Kape
got up and he got a rappings it just doesn't
look right. Let me kind of show you get right here,
and I just form tackle.
Speaker 5 (18:18):
And then just started beating the heck out of him
and he's just looking like everybody's laughs. Like, welcome to
the room. And so it get caught him up. They
got Ponder last year. I get it, I get everybody.
I've been doing it ever since New York. Mike. It
was unbelievable. I'm videoing it and I'm like, what is
he doing? And I'm like, I'm like and I was like, and.
Speaker 8 (18:41):
I was like, oh, I'm so happy we get to
talk to him today, because that's one you don't want
to put the video out with it.
Speaker 5 (18:47):
I'm joking.
Speaker 13 (18:49):
I'm the best when you see their face and you're
looking down and they're just like looking at.
Speaker 5 (18:57):
You always just like these.
Speaker 13 (18:58):
Guys, you know, we were hard and we and we
study hard, but have.
Speaker 5 (19:02):
Fun to enjoy it. And so it maybe helps him
loosen up in the room.
Speaker 13 (19:05):
Ask a couple of questions and and and realize that
this is just a game. You know, don't don't ever
doubt yourself, don't double put a doubt in your heart.
And the only way we can all learn as we
all talk. Same thing with me as coaches. I want
these guys to talk and tell me what their plan
is and you know, and see things erald kind of
thing last week on film, It's like great, you know,
I can't see everything.
Speaker 5 (19:25):
I can't watch.
Speaker 13 (19:25):
I tried to, but I can't, you know. And so
because I coached them about this and they showed this,
and I was like, let me go back and see
if that verifies and do it. So that's the part
of the atmosphere that that that I want in the room.
I want everybody to be in this together. It's never
about the coach. It's not about the player. The best
of the guys that ever got to work with. We're
all like this, and and maybe that helps them loosen
(19:46):
up a little bit.
Speaker 3 (19:47):
I know this.
Speaker 5 (19:47):
I think I'm crazy.
Speaker 6 (19:49):
Maybe that's a good thing.
Speaker 9 (19:51):
I know this gets down played a lot, but very
Able worked with their offensives, with their offensive line. How
does that help how much? Oh?
Speaker 13 (19:57):
Absolutely it just not with the offensive line as well,
but just with the scheme and what they're thinking and
down in distance and situational football and and you know,
just today before practice he came in. We were just
talking about a certain situation and what he thought about
this and if this could come up. And so, man,
it's a huge benefit of him being there for a
(20:17):
year and and.
Speaker 5 (20:19):
It always is. I mean for me, he played this position.
Speaker 13 (20:22):
You know Ollb and so I bounced a lot of
things off of him and just his knowledge of football.
Speaker 5 (20:30):
Thank you, guys so much for
