Speaker 7 (01:00):
Drake May did we offend you or something? Why you
don't want to come to visit us anymore? Or what
I haven't seen you in a while? What's going on, buddy?
Speaker 4 (01:07):
What's going on?
Speaker 6 (01:08):
All right? Man?
Speaker 4 (01:09):
I'm hanging in there and just shoot, nah, I mean
the couch that the one couch incident in that one time.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
I think, well, we're back to the desk. We're back
to the desk.
Speaker 7 (01:19):
You and I understand Andy making you uncomfortable with the couch.
He made us all uncomfortable with that couch, So it
wasn't just you.
Speaker 6 (01:25):
I hope you know that.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
All right? Next week we'll see how is the bye week?
Speaker 3 (01:29):
What did you do that was good?
Speaker 6 (01:32):
This guy?
Speaker 4 (01:33):
I went back home, saw some family by Chapel Hill,
checked in on some folks back there, and just uh
got back here this weekend and just getting ready for
in these last four weeks.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Did you run into Bill Belichick at Chapel Hill?
Speaker 1 (01:45):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (01:48):
I did not, No, sir, did not know.
Speaker 5 (01:49):
What do you think of that? That story that he's
interviewed for your alma mater's open head coaching job.
Speaker 6 (01:57):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (01:57):
Shoot, I think you know with with North Carolina and
coach you know, shooting Hall of Fame coach, you know
what a legendary coach. I'm not really sure how much
is it in the works, but you know the rumors,
so I think you know North Carolina and you know
coach Belichick. Anytime having a legendary coach like my coach Belichick,
I'm sure he helped out a college program. And obviously
with coach Brown, I love Coach Brown and he hate
(02:18):
what happened, but uh, you know, nothing set in stone,
so I'm not gonna, you know, make it too far,
you know, comments about it because you never know what
can happen.
Speaker 5 (02:25):
You're an influential alum. Would you make a phone call
or maybe make a donation to try to make it happen?
Speaker 3 (02:31):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (02:32):
No, I think you know. In my season, I'm worried
about getting ready for my games and worried about you
all and water and their head coach. Not that I
don't care, but I got no bigger, bigger fish to
fry and you know, start qurrecting on the pitch to day.
Enough going on, all.
Speaker 7 (02:44):
Right, last Pelicheck question. Let's say Bill calls you up.
He says, Drake, I'm I'm taking this job at UNC.
What do I need to know about North Carolina? Where's
the where should I be hanging out?
Speaker 1 (02:52):
What's like? What's the cool place to be?
Speaker 7 (02:54):
He's got this young girlfriend, you know, so he's gonna
want to be seen out and out in Dura.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
Where would you Where would you recommend he? He go first?
Speaker 4 (03:03):
I think Sutton's Suttons is the go to kind of
hole in the wall spot on Franklin Street, the famous
street that is a great lunch spot. Merrit's is another
good lunch spot. Probably go get some that's probably good
food to Sis Chapelhe I think you know, special places,
special people, So I think it's hard not to go
wrong any place in Jabelhale Drake.
Speaker 5 (03:20):
When Coach Mayo was on our station this morning on
the Greg Hill Show, he said one of the priorities
posts by was to be better in the turnover department
for the defense, create more of them for the offense,
have fewer of them. As you sat back in the
by and we've talked turnovers with you, and I know
you'd like to turn it over less, Like what does
that mean to you? Is that taking less chances? Is
that being more prepared? Like as an offensive player, how
(03:43):
do you avoid turnovers without avoiding making plays?
Speaker 4 (03:48):
Yeah, I think he has tough balance. I think just
emphasis on you know, balls, carrying the pocket. I think
the fumbles are the biggest thing that I think can
have heard us and have heard us.
Speaker 6 (03:55):
And where they've been at, you.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
Know, in our own side of the field, and in
facially timing I think kind of into the game, you know, interceptions,
you know, I think those obviously throws ID like to
have back. But at the same time, I'm one, you know,
trying to win the games like I'm trying to throw an interceptions,
so that's the goal, and I think, you know, I
think there's even balance of me going to make plays
and and trying to take care of the ball. So
(04:17):
I think some of them have you have a few
tip ones recently that have been kind of kind of unfortunate.
But at the end of the day, I think, you know,
moving the ball, well, we got guys making plays. You know,
we're fighting, we're staying these games. A lot of these
one score games, they got to come up the right
side of them, and I think are going down the road,
so you know, nothing to you know, really trying to
focus just folcus in on you like a little thing
that two hands of the pocket or you know, here,
(04:37):
go check down your little little stuff like that that
can go a long way and not turn the ball over.
Speaker 7 (04:42):
Drake May joining us here on WI Afternoon's Drake. It's
a late bye week for you guys this year. Obviously
it's your first bye week, so it's probably all the
same to you. We talked with Jonathan Jones about rehabbing
and sort of getting recharging after a long stretch of play.
Were there any injuries or anything that that you were
working with and trying to work out as you as
you went back to North Carolina, anything like that to
(05:04):
sort of physically get ready to go for this last
month here.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
I felt good. I felt good, you know, thank the
Good Lord. Coming into the bye week.
Speaker 6 (05:11):
And you know, I think mom felt about as live
as it.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
Has today and practice, you know, not taking a few
days off so and so not so good.
Speaker 6 (05:18):
Feel ready to go.
Speaker 5 (05:21):
Along those same lines, you feel good, You're ready to go?
But has this been a long year? Because you hear
a lot of rookies talk about not just the pro season,
but you go from your college season, a prep for
the Combine Combine Draft right on through has this Has
this been a long process for you becoming a professional?
Speaker 3 (05:39):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (05:39):
No doubt.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
And I think I said in my press conference, and
you know there's really no rookie wall, and that's really true,
you know, being you know, starting quarterback like I said
for the New Land Patriots. You know, it's it's a
it's a great opportunity and it comes a lost responsibility.
But there ain't no doubt, you know, you know, facing
the fact it's been along, it's been a long road,
and you know, a bunch of you know, combine prep
and interview prep and pro day, then see where I'm
(06:00):
gonna go, then coming to O. C. A's and staying
after for rookie meetings and staying after for rookie development
meetings and you know, rookie lifts in the morning. It's definitely, uh,
it takes.
Speaker 6 (06:11):
A toll on you. But at end of the day,
you know, I think, just you.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
Know why we Chach Mayo talked about it here in
the in the team meeting today. It's about the opportunity
we have and what we can build on and talk
about the one score games and how much And I
think you at the end of the day, I think
it's a long process, but I think thankful And you
know what opportune I get every Sunday and get every
day out and practice to go and you know, improve
my game.
Speaker 7 (06:31):
Trake, are you the type of guy that disconnects in
the bye week or you football junkie and you're still
sort of going over tape and watching other teams and
things like that.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
What what what side of that? Would you say? You're
more run?
Speaker 4 (06:42):
Yeah, you watched you watch the games kind of as
a fan, like on Sundays or the Thursday night game.
Speaker 6 (06:47):
With the Lions and the and then.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
Those teams are especially college football is really the first
chance to really watched college.
Speaker 6 (06:53):
And know what was going on with them.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
Uh, the championship, so that was cool, But no, I
think you definitely check in to see what our next
pone is going to do. Can't lose sight of that.
But uh, I definitely kind of disconnected and tossed the
ball a little bit around but really didn't get on
the field or anything. Kind of disconnected for sure.
Speaker 5 (07:08):
When you watch do you watch it from a quarterbacks perspective?
Are you a quarterbacks apologist? Are you, you know, getting
mad when the left tackle misses a block or receiver
does something.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
How do you watch the game?
Speaker 4 (07:19):
Yeah, I kind of I kind of cheer. I kind
of cheer for the offense. I'm the offensive guy and
nice scoring points, so I'm usually on the offensive side
of things. But uh, sometimes times I'm watching somebody else playing.
Hey that's the concept, or you know, I think maybe
the balls should have maybe gone here or what a throw,
So little things like that, but I really just try
(07:40):
to enjoy it.
Speaker 7 (07:41):
You got Josh Allen coming up twice here in this
last month, that's someone you've been compared to a lot.
And obviously the Buffalo Bills are a team that has
been I know they lost yesterday, but they're a team
that's been at the top of the AFC.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
You're close to it for most of the year.
Speaker 7 (07:54):
I know you have Arizona coming up this week and
you got to go week by week, but two division
games in the last month, that's got to be a
little daunting, though.
Speaker 4 (08:02):
I think it's an opportunity to shoot. I think you
know old you know, Patriots and Bills who in conference,
you know, indivision opponent. I think you're always gonna be
excited us to play those guys, and it's gonna be
some cold weather games and you know, football weather games.
So I think that'd be fun to get a chance
to go against a great team and you know what
they've done this season is uh, I'll to you to
challenge us and see what we see what we got
(08:22):
on our team, you know, especially these last couple of weeks.
So uh, we know, definitely got in and shoot, taking
it out of the challenge and be ready to go
with you never.
Speaker 5 (08:31):
Know, big crop of first round rookie quarterbacks, do you
check in on those guys, either watching highlights, do you
check their stats, do you compare yourself to them, do
you even stay in contact with them? What's your relationship
sort of that first round group of quarterbacks.
Speaker 4 (08:48):
Yeah, I think with Caylee, you know, I talked Cayla
after the game. I think you kind of talked to
these guys more when you play them and all things
at that are really in season, you got so much
going on. I think you see obviously the record, that's
probably the biggest thing you can see with some of
the team, But really, other than that, I think the
big thing is, you know, just cheering for those guys
and when I do play them, you know.
Speaker 6 (09:09):
You know, you want to beat them.
Speaker 4 (09:10):
So I think that was pretty cool when you know,
with the rookie rookie matchup, but those guys have our classes.
Has been pretty cool. But it's been uh been you
wish would be there with some of those, you know,
other teams. At the same time, I think, uh, we're
gonna get there and get some work towards you know, getting.
Speaker 7 (09:30):
There, all right, Drake, Before we get to the quarterback
question of the week, what do you think your best
throw of the season has been?
Speaker 1 (09:35):
And what throw do you want back?
Speaker 4 (09:36):
The most MM best throw of the season, my best
go to season. I'll probably say that that one last Sunday,
probably hooper in the in the coins, I think, uh
at the front pile line.
Speaker 6 (09:47):
I think that was.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
Probably one of my better throws. Or another one kind
of similar throw is the one the hoop against the bear.
It's probably what either of those two. It's hard to say.
Not my first touchdown the booty, I was a like
that throw, but you really haven't made as many, you know,
big time you know highlight those, So really just trying
to find completions. That's to be seeing this league is
hard to find completions. And then uh, second part of
(10:11):
that question, I'll tell.
Speaker 6 (10:12):
It like that back.
Speaker 4 (10:13):
Oh that's a good one. I think it's hard not
to say them when we get the Titans, you know,
when we're driving, got a chance to win the game
at the end. Either could have thrown it further or
just checked it down.
Speaker 5 (10:25):
So I know you're not in the room with us.
But when he yet question asked you that question, I
almost envision the little head tilt and think about it
that you do at the podium. Have you noted that
this has become a meme on the internet on social
media that that I don't know, qu that look on
your face, physical look, quizical look when someone asked you
a question, you kind of do the head tilt. You know,
that's become a thing throughout New England social media.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
Nah, I have seen that, and I haven't seen that.
Probably somebody probably making fun of me rather not see it.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
No, I think it's out a love probably, so I
think it's out of love.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
All right.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
Well, no, I haven't seen that meme. I haven't seen it.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
All right, we'll get to the quarterback.
Speaker 7 (11:05):
Quarterback question in the Week is brought to you by
Northeast Men's Healthy Experts in Treating Men's Sexual Health with
five New England offices or Northeast Men's Health dot Com.
This one comes to us from Donnie in Dorchester, who asked,
Drake May, what's one artist alive or dead that you
would like to see in concert that you've never seen before?
Speaker 4 (11:22):
Oh, A part of that Chris Stapleton. I've never seen
christ Ableton up fire like the Secret Stapleton. Or I've
never seen k Chesney. How about that nursing Gane Chesney.
Speaker 7 (11:31):
So he's here every year. You have a private Chesney concert.
If you want to talk to Robert Range tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (11:40):
Let's get it. What week he was h he was
here recently, maybe one of our first few weeks of
the season.
Speaker 6 (11:45):
Yeah, well I missed it.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
So that's too bad.
Speaker 7 (11:48):
I saw Stapleton in New Hampshire over the summer and
he was terrific.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
It was like three nights he played up. Oh yeah,
great show, or maybe a Drake concert.
Speaker 6 (11:57):
You'll give my name.
Speaker 4 (11:57):
I'm a pretty sick.
Speaker 7 (11:59):
Yeah that's true. You go to Lamar show too, but
that might be might have the opposite effect. All right,
Drake May thanks so much for the time today. Good
luck against Arizona this weekend, and we'll talk to you,
hopefully in person next week.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
Ye sir, Thanks you guys.
