Speaker 1 (00:00):
How was the buy?
Speaker 2 (00:00):
What's going on? Yeah, it's good to get the time
off and watch some football and uh yeah, I get
ready back to it. So we've got a big one.
Speaker 3 (00:07):
At home before we get into some of the other stuff.
We actually just gave away a Drake May autograph football
here in our QB under the Tree contest, and we
were looking at your autograph and I wanted.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
To ask you.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
Are you one of those guys like growing up when
you were younger, did you practice your autograph hoping someday
you were going to be somebody worthy of giving an autograph?
Speaker 1 (00:24):
How did your autograph come about?
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Oh, it's pretty simple. I got a short name thanks
to my parents, So just kind of try to make it,
try to make it part, need to make it a
little more, uh you know, eligible to read. But I think,
uh no, I think just try to throw my number
on there, make sure they know it's me. But I
think it's uh it's something that I think we see
a cool signature. It's pretty cool. So many changed mind
(00:49):
sometime down the road make it rememorable.
Speaker 4 (00:52):
So Drake, we're also just discussing here in the show
moments before you called in that you are currently the
leading vote getter for the two twenty twenty five NFL
Pro Bowl.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
How does that feel?
Speaker 4 (01:03):
And how how nice is that to know that, uh,
your fans here and fans abroad in the NFL are
voting for you.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah, like I said, I think, just no shot to
our fans. They've been great all year long. You know,
we travel well, we're all across the nation, the globe,
and it was probably credit to them, and you know,
credit to the guys around me. We've you know, made
some players this year. We've got hopefully a few left
in US, and we got to go make some on
Sunday and continue to go at it. And uh, like
I said, give them something to.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
You four Drake.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
I know, I believe I saw on Twitter that you
had an event at Jillette Stadium over the weekend. But
did you watch some football? Whether it was Saturday? Did
you watch some college football? Did you catch any of
the Bills Bengals yesterday?
Speaker 1 (01:43):
Did you watch some football?
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Yeah? Yeah, watch a little bit of college football on Saturday. Something.
Got to watch the A lot of NFL games had
the you know, the quad box going, so I got
able to see some football and it was weird, not
playing on you know throughout the week. It's so it's
so weird, but you know, good to get back at it.
And you had a big one at home.
Speaker 4 (02:03):
Like I said, Drake, have you had a chance to
go back and rewatch the Buffalo game from week five
and if so, is there anything you took away from
your effort, the team's effort, and things you would like
to improve upon before this highly contested, much anticipated rematch.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
Yeah. I think, first off, they're deconse, They're very sound,
they're good players over there, they had great players, and
I think with the challenge every week, you know, playing
a division opponent that we know, we know well and
know that they make something self the same, something different,
and just try to, you know, learn as much as
I can from the first game and try to see
what kind of carries on once you get into the game,
(02:41):
what kind of they're trying to keep the same or
what they're trying to do different, and really just the
biggest thing to try to, you know, duplicate the win
we got and try to make it another one.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
Patriots quarterback Drake May here on WI afternoons on a
Patriots Monday. I know you guys were out on the
practice field earlier today. How important is it to rev
back up or get the momentum or energy going. What
was it like being back out there after a week off.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Yeah, you know, I try to throw a little bit,
you know on the days that we weren't practicing, just
to you'll not go, you know, a lot of days
about you know, get my arm going or throwing the football.
So it's always good for the guys to get their
legs back underneath them and uh, you know, run some
routes and uh, make some plays. So it was good
to you'll get the guys back and you'll get a
(03:27):
lift and you can't of get your body back going.
Really has an extra day to get ready for for Sunday.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
Does playing somebody like Josh Allen? You know, he's the
reigning m v P. Obviously, he and Buffalo have won
the afcast for the last five years, and he's generally
regarded as one of the best players in the NFL.
Does playing somebody like Josh like, does that help you
elevate your game and really get your juices flown before
a game?
Speaker 2 (03:51):
I mean, you know anytime, really try to get my
juices flowing for every game. But it's it's a yeah,
it's attle different when you're playing the m v P.
You know, one of the best players in the league.
He played at such a high level. He duties I
hate say, but he's fun to watch when he's playing.
And I know it's a big fan of him off
the field, and got to know him a little bit
and he's been it's been great to me. And I think,
(04:13):
you know, one of the biggest things is, uh, you know,
he he leaves and they've wanted a long time and
they've won this division five or five or so years straight.
So we'll just about a chance to uh, you know,
kind of do that. And and we're calling a championship week,
you know, this week, so we've got to play at
a high level and know that, you know, on the
other side of the ball, it's uh, he gives some chance.
(04:34):
You have a great chance every Sunday.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
I know, uh, you have to play against him, so
I don't want you to pump his tires too much necessarily.
But as a young quarterback, you told us once upon
a time you study.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
Darren Rodgers grip for example.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
Are there things you study from guys like Josh Allen
or Joe Burrow or Patrick Mahomes to try to learn
from and maybe install as part of your game.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
Yeah, I figure's stuff you see on on tape. We've
gotten unfortunate enough with you know him in the vision.
You see a lot of the same you know, all
the same teams that you know that we play on
the Bills plays. We can see him on tape. You
can see you know, different things he's doing in protection,
different things he's doing, plump thinking guys, extending place, you know,
throwing down the field. You know, Like I said, I
(05:19):
think it's a it's awesome experience for me to you know,
watch games that defense that he's played and see how
they you know, how they handled him, and uh, you know,
I think it's a he's at a level than I
am with how defense that are really honed in on
stopping him. So maybe a laid back variation of what
they do for me and just try to handle it
from there.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
The Darian Lowe, who's been filling in at left tackle,
had nothing but glowing things to say in a recent
interview about Garrett Bradbury, your center. We haven't heard much
about Garrett this season. How has that relationship gone? Because
you know, considering it's such an important relationship. The center
to quarterback, uh exchange and everything that goes takes place
(05:59):
between and you guys.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Yeah, Garret's been uh ye have been one of the
biggest parts of our offense. He's uh, he kind of
he's ahead, hun show up front, you know, get some
guys you know, in the right spot. He's helps me
on getting the right sign that's going. He's uh great
for the room, you know, the line room and generally
offensive room of uh, keeping the vibes up. And he's
been a great addition. He's from Charlotte, so we grew
(06:23):
up probably thirty minutes from each other. I'm a little
bit older than I am. He went to m C State.
Obviously my arrival, but just a guy who gets it.
He's uh, you know, play a long time. I'll play
at the high level. One some you know, had some
some good teams in Minnesota, and just glad he's he's been.
He's meant the world to me and uh, my progression
between all the relationship and just helping me not only
with you know, on the field, off the field, and
(06:44):
just uh, you know, growing up and learning the life
of the league. And he's been a huge addition, and
he's been awesome to have in the locker room. And
I'm glad, like I said, I'm glad he's he's playing
with us, and you'll look forward to, you know, going
out there every day on every game day on Sunday
knowing he's he's uh, you know, he's under I'm under
center with him, and he's battled and done a great
Calvin protection and going on. He's been a you know,
(07:07):
a huge, huge life for us. Like I said, I
can't say enough about him, Drake.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
In the old days, when your coach was still playing here,
Bill Belichick used to call these games hat and T
shirt games because if you win the game, they give
you a division champ hat and T shirt afterwards. Has
that Has that been talked about at all this week?
Did coach Rabel bring that up? Is that motivation that
you can sort of check off one of those first
goals that that every team has when it starts a season.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Yeah, I think it was one of our goals, you know,
this year to win the win our division. And uh
it's pretty cool you see you know that come uh
you know, come to life and uh, one of the
biggest things that coach Brabel is big on is you know,
going out and earn it and uh, you know what
a chance we got to two. But you know, at
the same time all that had T shirt stuff, I think,
you know the best thing that Hearty Coast the games
is you know, you really keep going. You have to.
(07:55):
That's a big one at the end, you really you
don't care as much about, you know, what to get
for the one along the way, The one at the
last game is the big one that you really really
hold on too. So that's what we're trying to work to.
And I know a lot of people are you know,
out there are trying to work to the same goal.
So it's a tough doown.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
I'm sure a lot of Patriots fans would love to
see you guys take the crown back after it's been
in Buffalo for five years, considering how many times the
AFC East was won previously. And you know that word champion,
Mike Rabel, your coach hasn't shied away from using the
champion word at all. I'm just curious if you're comfortable
throwing around words like that or if you're superstitious and
(08:32):
don't like, you know, talking about things like that. Before
you actually accomplish them.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
Said, I think it makes sense because we got it,
you know, right in front of us and in this
week the postility the PAC champions. So I don't think
it's you know, superstition or you know, what's a real
and it's uh, you know, a real fact of what
happens in the outcome of this game. I don't think
it's something you have to shy away from. It's something
that makes you motivated to come out here and playing
(08:59):
at home against a team that's uh been ahead of UH.
You have been in the LEADU in the FC to
uh to want to do it and want to do
on our home turf. And Uh, I think it's the
uh I said, it's motivation. I wouldn't say it's something
to shy away from.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
Drake.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
I know you have a good relationship with Hunter Henry
obviously on the field, but also off the field. He
was named the teams winner of the Walter Peyton Award
this year. He'll be nominated for.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
The league wide award.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
UH safe to say that you think he's well deserving
of that honor and not surprised that he got it.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
Yeah, I mean he's just a great example you know,
each every day in that locker room for you know,
me and young players and you know even older players.
How he carried himself, I forced the community, how he's
raising his kids, how he's strong in his faith. He's Uh,
she's been one of my best friends. And I'm just
glad to be able to play alongside him and watched
(09:49):
him each and every day, and it's it's it's cool
when you spend a lot of time with guys and
the NFL, he spend more times around each other than
you do with your families. And really, you know, it's
it's enjoyable going every day and you're throwing the hunter
and practice and you know, beating them in ding pong
and little things like that. So he's been Uh, he's
been awesome.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (10:09):
I feel like we'd be remiss if one of us
didn't ask you a quick question about this as well.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
Moment of levity.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
You know, during the bye week, you rest up a
little bit, try to get some throws in, watch a
little tape, et cetera. Meanwhile, Uh, your wife has taken
over the internet. And and and Michael May now with
the Bakesmiths on TikTok and the socials is a superstar.
I know Coach Rabel talked about sampling some of the
good stuff and it's delicious and everything. But have you
(10:34):
ever checked out the comments to see the way that
Patriots fans have now gotten behind her and all the
love that they throw you in the comments session And.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
It's hilarious.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
Yeah, a lot of my friends and uh family members
you know, laugh at them. And I'm always telling me
to go a little counting. Yeah, I'll watch her video
as much they come up, you know sometimes when she's
see her making them and I think they're funny. But no,
it's been awesome in her little journey and you know,
doing Bakness right now, so I get to a good
(11:08):
part of trying all her stuff she bakes and trying
to bring some leftovers in into the building. And I
think people up north kind of struggle with a double
name of getting her name or her name is a
double name and Michael, so hopefully people figure that out.
But no, she's just a guitar and uh, she's been
a big big addition for me, you know, living with
(11:28):
you know, being up here and living with me.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
I can tell you she's huge with like college girls, Uh,
my son's girlfriend. All her friends love your wife and
her recipes. So I wanted to ask you which recipe
is the best. I'm sure you've sampled them all. Which
is the best? Which is your favorite?
Speaker 1 (11:45):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (11:46):
She made some oatmeal cream buys that I love the
other day. I don't know if she's really up to
make whatever. I love her Regorar cookies, Drugger tip cookies.
She Uh, she does it all. She cooks good dinners.
So whatever she's up for, Uh, she'll try whatever. Wow.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
And I saw that you made a after the after
the win against the Giants. It was she said, it
was like twelve thirty at night and you did a
little kid drive by, cameo and popped your popped your head,
popped your head in at afterward.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
She's dedicated, she's dedicated a fakeness.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
All right, Drake, it's your favorite time. It's time for
may Or may Not, may or may Not.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
It's time for a weekly teak.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
Inside the Likes, Loves, Mind and Style.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
The New England's quarterback may Or may not may Not
on w E I afternoons. Okay, Drake, you said you
watched a little football over the weekend.
Speaker 1 (12:47):
College football. Uh, we had the college.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
Football Playoff announced, there's some chaos, there's some controversy. So
the expanded college football Playoff may or may not?
Speaker 2 (12:59):
I think may I think I'm a fan. I think
it makes it uh, you know, a little bit like
you know playoff, like with the amount of teams and
you know, getting a buy and lets more teams in it.
I think it was a great addition when I did
the four team and expanding it to twelve, I think
twelve the right number. I think they'll figure out, these
teams will figure out kind of the best way to
get there. And they got some group of five teams.
(13:19):
So I'm a fan. I'm a big fan. I think
it's It's been a cool ais to college football and
fun to watch.
Speaker 4 (13:25):
One of the big things that Mike Vrabel likes to
say is no naps, no falling asleep at the wheel,
no taking any moments off. So I have to ask you,
Drake may just taking a nap? In general?
Speaker 1 (13:35):
Are you a fan? May or may not?
Speaker 2 (13:39):
I'll probably say I'm in the middle. I think on
the plane plane rides we have, I try to fall asleep,
and maybe at a night game, I try to get
in a nap, but not in my normal typical days.
But I think it's always nice. Try to keep the naps,
you know, short and sweet, and I try to be
lousy for today.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
Christmas season is upon us.
Speaker 3 (13:57):
So Christmas Vacation is the best holiday movie or special?
Speaker 2 (14:01):
May or may not Christmas Vacation the best? I think
that's I think that's a stretch up. Probably say may not.
I think there's some good Christmas movies out there. I
think Else. I'm probably more fan.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
Of Yes of else and Will Ferrell, so Drake.
Speaker 4 (14:16):
I have allowed my children to run the house. They've
gotten their way. Now we have a dog and two cats.
I'm running a zoo here at my house. So I'm
curious pets having pets at the house.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
May or may not.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
Pets? I think it's may not for right now. I
think down the road, I maybe love lot to enjoy
a dog. But I told my wife a dog right
now is if I'm the one watching that she needs
to get a dog hitter because I won't be doing
much with dogs.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
That is the right answer.
Speaker 3 (14:42):
As someone who has a puppy of four months and
two months right now, it is chaos. You do not
have time for a dog right now. And finally for me,
football in the snow. We saw it yesterday in Buffalo
between Burrow and Josh Allen.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
Football in the snow. May or may not?
Speaker 2 (14:57):
I think? May I think it looks awesome. I think it.
You should be one of my favorite things here growing up.
And we got snow in North Carolina to go out
there and throw the football and play snow football, So
I think looking forward to I heard it's not as
bad conditions as really heavy rain, so I think it'd
be it'd be sweet to have a snow game and
they'll play in the snow here in Austin. Yo.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
Oh, It's epic. And the snow Angels to follow.
Speaker 4 (15:19):
Last one for me, the show fear Factor is returning
to television. Squeamish things like, you know, challenges with snakes
and bugs and everything like that.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
May or may not.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
I may not. I mean my brother or brother got
a pet snake growing up, but you know, really not
too you know much of my liking. But we had
a pet snake growner. I thought that was pretty cool.
Speaker 3 (15:42):
So all right, it's time now for the Quarterback Question
of the Week, which is brought to you by Northeast
Men's Health the experts in treating men's sexual health with
six New England offices or at Northeast Men'shealth dot Com
comes from Bill and Barnstable and he seen you at
some Celtics games, some Bruins. He knows you're a fan
of Boston sports. Well, major League Baseball hot stove is
(16:03):
heating up. It's free agency time and Bill wants to
know if you were going to sell Pete Alonso, Kyle
Schwarber or some high price free agent on the city
of Boston, what would you say to them.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
That's a good question. I think just the way this
this this city and uh, the New England area kind
of embraces uh sports sports players and professional sports players
is uh it's one of the cool things I've I've
been a part of, you know, watching them embrace me
and embrace you know, my teammates and uh some of
the other athletes and how you know, beloved, you know
some of what the famous guys, Big Poppy and you
(16:38):
know some of the greats. Tatum right now and you
know pasta with the Bruins has been has been really
cool for me and it's one of the I think
it's the greatest sports city and in the country. I
think you know, Swarber knows a little bit about it
playing here, and you know he was in New York
and there's a lot of other teams in New York
so they can't speak exactly for what it's like there.
But I know you in New England in this area, Uh,
(17:00):
it's a you know, it's twenty four to seven, you know,
caring about you know their teams and you know it's us.
It's it's us. You know the Bruins and the past
and the Celtics and you know the Red Sox, it's
US four and they care of you know a great,
a great deal about us. And I think it's the
city champions. I mean that's what they say, and I
think that's what we try to prove and gives them
the cheer about and these fans take it well.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
All right, Drake, appreciate the time.
Speaker 3 (17:24):
I'm glad you enjoyed your bye and good luck against
the Bills on Sunday in that battle with Josh Allen
and company.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
We'll talk to you next week.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
Thank you, guys. I'm going
