Speaker 2 (01:00):
Good afternoon, It's always good to come in here after
a victory. I thought the guys really answered the challenge
that we had all during the week. Talked about being
a physical you know, having a physical Wednesday, and I
think that showed up today really in all three phases.
But offensively, you know, we're able to really deliver those
body blows that we talked about and really staying ahead
(01:20):
of the sticks. You know. The prior week, it's a
lot of second and long situations that really took us
off track. And I would say defensively, especially on the
interior piece for the most part, and look, there are
things the correct I thought the guys played well in
the run game. Defensively, I would say we were able
to get pressure. We're able to get pressure on the quarterback.
We had nine sacks in the game, which is always good.
And I would say the back end did a good
(01:41):
job as far as coverage is concerned. Offensively, kind of
talked about the run game and look, Drake, you know,
still continues to go out there and make plays. He's
gonna make mistakes, but this is part of his evolution,
is part of his growth and development. And then special teams.
You know, it was kind of shaky there at the beginning,
but I would say as we were able to settle down,
it was good. I just want to send a I
(02:03):
thought the coordinators. I thought the coordinators did an excellent
job the entire week, not only, you know, reiterating the
message that I said in the squad meeting rooms, but
also just putting together a good game plan and knowing
how we have to win football games. And that's still
controlling the line of scrimmage, and kind of talked about that,
what did your.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Team do so well defensively at one hundred and forty
two total yards, only eleven first downs of the nine sacks.
What did they do well today?
Speaker 2 (02:28):
It starts up front. It starts up front. I think
you know that's what we have to do. We have
to we have to go out there and uh re
establish the line of scrimmage. And we're able to do
that in all three downs a second half like schoolers
down in the ball. Seems like he was in a
spy tech teach. Is that another bring when you guys
had it? That? That's our that's our long horn package,
our long horn package. And we we've done things like
that before. And you know, again we talk about next
(02:50):
man up. Now you've got a guy who was primarily
a special team player making contributions is probably what his
first sack ever in his uh in his career. But uh,
he's fast, he's athletic, and he's a football player. We
try not to put anywhere in a box, and I'm
not gonna put him one.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Drake asked AVP if he could address the offense, what
do you know about that? And what does that say
about Drake? Look, Drake has addressed the offense numerous times.
I think this is it goes back to now he's
starting to really take control of of the offense and
the team. I mean, when you go out there and
you perform at a high level, that's the first step.
The next step is to bring others with you, and
I think he's, uh, he's on his way to doing that.
(03:28):
Play factor in the Nut Sacks coverage was huge. You know,
all of those guys in the back end again, you
know we had the young safeties out there, and Gonzell
continues to play at a very high level. I'd also
say John Jones, you know, he's one of those guys
you can put him at you know, as a slot corner,
put him outside, put him in the back end. Just
a veteran player that again goes in that box of
(03:48):
he's a football player and wherever you ask him to go,
he'll go out there and try to perform. You've had
how much is your mind in this game?
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Is in John?
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Just stopping strands the matchups in regards to.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
How much of this game do you believe would be
if we contains big game?
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Oh, that was definitely a huge part of it. You
know we've said that you know, if you were to
take away just our third down, you know, penalties in
our third down, letting the quarterback out of the pocket,
over the course of the season, we would be much better.
And I would say today I think they had one
third down conversion, not necessarily sure what it was, and
then one fourth down conversion. And look again, that's that's
the recipe, and we just have to be patient enough
(04:26):
to do it on a down after down basis.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
A little more drafting and developing and you get a
one contributors from young players today. How much of that
is a reflection of the playing time you know they've
received over the.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
First half of the season. I'm not sure. I mean, look,
those guys, they work hard, they come to work every day,
they go on the practice field, and they try to
get better. It doesn't always show up on game day.
Fortunately for us to show it up today. Battle for
Jalen Polk, I'm nice to see him get that touchdown
and he got greeted by coaches. It was great, it
was great. You know, with young players, you never know
(04:56):
where that that inflection point is gonna come. You never
know when that that switch is gonna flip. And hopefully
this is the start of you know, him being a
very good receiver in this league. We never doubted him
in the locker room, and I think that's important. You know,
it's been a lot of outside noise and he's had
to deal with the outside noise. But when it's all
said and done, if you go out and do it
on the field, it's not much people can say.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
You talked about putting the players out there that give
you the best chance to win. At receiver.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
You guys got a lot of receivers today we didn't
see Kendrick. Was that like just practice kJ perform better
at practice? Like what was the thought? Says? There was
a lot that went into that, you know, anytime we
put the the active roster together, I mean you said
it like we thought that that was the best thing
to do for us to give us the best chance
(05:43):
to win. All those guys bring a certain skill set
to the game. We just didn't know who who was
gonna play more, and it just played out that way.
But I will say this, you know, even though Borne
didn't play today, it was the first one smiling when
I walked in the locker room. And I've always appreciated that,
you know, just his energy and excitement. Same thing you
know with kJ and the rest of those guys. Sometimes
(06:03):
they you know, even when they're inactive, just the excitement
you know, for their teammates. And you know, we talk
about abundance versus scarcity, abundance versus scarcity and having that
mindset of abundance where we can all eat versus scarcely.
If you have that scarcity mindset, you know, you don't
want your teammate to do well because it's only a
certain amount of the pie. And what I will say,
the mindset of this team is that if we go
(06:24):
out there, there are enough plays to be made for
all of us. We just got to go out and
next to you, I know that was a long answer,
but I thought, is gonna get philosophical.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
You guys ended the first half clock management being able
to execute in that situation.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
Yeah, Situational football has definitely been a strength of ours,
you know, especially over the last few weeks, Like you know,
the different situations that show up depending on the clock
and the score and the time out situation. I would say, again,
we were ahead of the game and it's great to
see when it comes to fruition, learn.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
Something more about your team today or through something to
everyone else watching.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
You guys, yeah, to me, like the only the only
people I'm really concerned with other people in that locker room.
And I've always known that these guys they're gonna give
great effort no matter what. And that's why Wednesday we
talk about changing the page when loser draw, and I
think that's a good mindset to have. You can't get
too high, I can't get too low. And I would
say we have you know, that's the leadership all the
way to the players, and they've done that. Joey slide
(07:23):
a huge, you know, to go out there and be
four for four, to have a new baby at home,
you know, less than a week o and little Palmer
and I would I would throw Jelani Tavan there as well.
Had you know his fiance had a baby a couple
of days ago. I knew. I I think I said
that right, And it means earth uh and in that language,
but you know it means a lot. And anytime you know,
(07:45):
Karrier goes out there and it kicks, he's perfect. There's
nothing I can say bad about that.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
Williams had struggled the last few games.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
What did you see from him?
Speaker 1 (07:54):
Today's for permans versus maybe earlier this season with the
team that you started against game.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
I still believe that Caleb Williams would be a very
good player in this league. But just like any rookie,
he's gonna go through his ups and downs. It doesn't
matter what position you play, uh, but he'll be a
special player. He's got to stick to Thanks Austen.
