Speaker 1 (00:00):
I guess.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Eight weeks in, Mike, has anything about this team or
where you're at exceeded your expectations.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
I don't think that that's fair and necessary necessarily say
exceeded any expectations.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Try not to. I don't have expectations, right, We just have.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
Things that we want to try to focus on and
improve on. You know, I don't think that they I
think that they are believe in themselves and that they
believe that they're going to make some plays and that
they're you know, not really panicking, and signs of complimentary
football and signs of preparation, and then some things that
(00:54):
we have to continue to correct. And I think that
that's that's really good. When you can find ways to
win and end the game with the football in your
hand and kneeling on it. Those are things that I
think good teams find a way to do. M We
just have to, you know, play a little better and
(01:15):
keep improving. And you know, through this stretch here in
the middle middle of the season where guys are banged
up and there's you know, weeks kind of start to
you know, in the days they kind of really just
start to be similar, and I like the consistency of it.
I just don't want guys to to get you know,
flat or you know, some of these veteran guys that
(01:37):
we've got to be conscious of getting their bodies back
in this time of year. I felt like you guys
were able to get trayveon going a little bit yesterday.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
I just wanted to ask you out some of those
pitch plays, like those misdirection pitch plays.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
What makes those hard to defend? You think?
Speaker 2 (01:55):
And does it clift doubt in the minds of defensive
players if you're able to hit.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
All one of those early in the game, Well, a
lot of that is predicated on the defense that they're playing,
and you know, sometimes zone or corners that may roll up,
or you know, pressure to a certain side, or you know,
whatever it may be. So I felt like that was
something that we could do this week, and it was
(02:20):
good to hit a couple of those guys did a
nice job of getting out in front of them, and
you know, we're able to hit some explosive gains that way.
So it'll it'll be a kind of all separate, you know,
each and every week based on what we need or
what we feel like we can do.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
I thought he you know ran well out of space.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
I thought he made a good cut on one of
those perimitive plays and continue to work and you know,
got a couple of returns and I felt like we
could be better there, but you know, being able to
have his speed on the edge. And again we're going
to try to use all the all the skilled players
that we have, just like yesterday, Max the leading receiver
(03:08):
by by the numbers, so kind of each week, I
think everybody's ready to go and try to take advantage
of their opportunity.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
And no different than the running backs like.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
People who played yesterday and they have three battles with
the future Hall of Fame or what's your message?
Speaker 1 (03:25):
I mean I think that it.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
You know, again, it's always a challenge when you play
Miles Garrett and you know, it's hard to recreate that
speed and that type of you know, what are we
going to do.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
On the show team? Like who do we have? Like
if we did, they wouldn't be on the show team.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
So there were some you know, good plays, good blocks, patients,
closing a space and you did a good job in
a run game.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
And then you know some.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
Plays that again he would like to have back, and yeah,
I think that's what happens, but I will is going
to keep practicing and improving and continuing to help us.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
When Garry came off of for a lineup, is there
more too much of a runway?
Speaker 3 (04:12):
Yeah, that would just need to close the space a
little bit, close the space.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
And know that, hey, everybody else is on their own.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
We we have to commit to two players, uh to
miles as opposed to maybe hanging in there a little bit.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
So I think we will all.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
Learn from that and and be able to uh to
improve and understand. You know, he's seen those all the time,
so he knows, you know, when he's coming off that
that chip that we have to probably close the distance
and know that he's ready to make another move or
another couple moves.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
Are some things that said Josh McDaniels. A part is
a play designer and a play caller.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
It seemed like drake hats are really wide open targets
of times and obviously tray Yon getting going outside. Well,
I think as a as a play designer, I'm I'm
excited where everybody is offensively and kind of you know,
being able to collaborate and come together provide ideas allow
(05:15):
Josh and you know, to to kind of figure out
what he wants to do each and every week, whether
that's the run game or play pass, movement series, screens,
drop back passes.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
So I like where that's at. And then I think
as far as you know the play.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
Calling, that that's you know, that's just a feel, that's
an understanding of, you know, what we need, where they're at,
what they're trying to do, trying to marry some concepts
together with some of their run actions. And I think
he's done a done a great job, not only this year,
but you know, being able to see what he's done
(05:55):
in the past. That's always just a feel of you know,
we showed this, let's come back and you know, let's
try to show them the same presentation but run a
different play.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
And then.
Speaker 3 (06:07):
You know, some of the you know, guys free, I
think just I don't know if that's the case, you know,
I mean, Pop was free because the quarterback.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Extended and they didn't cover them.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
So we need to continue to do that and find
ways to get the ball out on time, but then
also allow of quarterback to extend. So to answer your question,
I like where we are offensively, the collaboration the communication,
the efficiency to put the game play together, and then
Josh's ability to marry off different concepts that we have
(06:41):
might how much of that is just tip your cap
to them for good executions versus something you guys could
have done. We do something better. Yeah, we got to
block them and on the high hopper we are the hopper.
We got to let the guy the ball recover guy
go get the ball and we got to block. And
then the spinner is a different one where we want
to get on it. So good thing that we can
(07:03):
learn from that, we can.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
Practice that and not have that be the difference in
the ball game.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
Coach Trey Dudy a week from tomorrow, is there a
certain point this week where those conversations ramp up wards
because an ongoing process throughout them?
Speaker 3 (07:20):
I probably would assume that those are ongoing, you know,
conversations that that personnel people have and they're gauging the
market around the league.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
My culture building has been such a big talking point
surrounding this.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Team up to this point.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
And what has it been like for you cultivating that.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
And seeing how you're fixing this find.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
I mean I enjoy it. I enjoyed, you know, putting
the right staff together and enjoy the trying to encourage
the people in the building, try to help them do
their job better. I hope they enjoy coming to work here.
And then as far as the players is, just trying
to get the right people in the build voting that
you know, are willing to make connections with each other,
(08:06):
to be accountable, to do what they're supposed to do,
to practice, and then ultimately, you know, win.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
That's why we're here. So I think we can. You know,
I don't want you know, I want them to enjoy
coming to work. I want them to enjoy, you know,
being on this football team and being a part of
this team.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
Just putting the right staff together has been a lot
on Zach's plate in the last month or so.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
How how is he handling all of that? Really well?
Speaker 3 (08:33):
You know, I mean everybody over there and Zach's you know,
leading that charge, and they do a good job of
communicating and they're trying to help each other.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
You know.
Speaker 3 (08:45):
I feel like their communication during the game and what
we're able to get done, and talking about making adjustments
or fixing, you know, fixing mistakes quickly and talking about hey,
this barunch and this is what they did, or hey,
we got to be alert and make sure we're on
top of that.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
I feel like there's really.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
Good communication and you know they've they've done a good
job dirty runs.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
So you find a dirty run and what are the
examples of that? With moderate didn't have a ton of yards.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
Yesterday, but yeah, I think there were you know, those
ones where you know they got the box kind of
everybody's down in there and we have to you know,
there's usually contact within the first you know, a couple
of yards of the line of scrimmage. You got to
break a tackle or push a pile, and you know,
I think one of our better runs yesterday was you know,
(09:38):
contacted one or two yards and then he comes out
of it and.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
You know, runs for nine yards. You know.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
Unfortunately we didn't gain anything on second to one and
jumped off sides on third and one, but uh, that
doesn't negate the fact that that was still a good run.
It's the ones where you know, again it's just not
like a clean look and you're not spreading into the
second level on touch.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
That some of those happen and.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
Hopefully we get a lot of those, But the other
ones where you know, you just gotta kind of make
your own whole as a running back, like may.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
Roberts blame a good run defender. Well, I mean, I
think he's got good instincts.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
I think that he stays square on contact. I think
he plays with his hands. It doesn't get tied up
on too many blocks, and you know, can can kind
of see things and fit things, whether that's a gap scheme,
outside zone, inside zone, all the different run schemes.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
I think he's you know, season well, how do you
anticipate things? Unfooled him with Terrell Jennings.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
Now that he's out of elevations, I think.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
He comes up to the fifty three or is that
sort of like a wait and see.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
No, I mean I would imagine that, you know, Terrell
is gonna you know, I mean, I think we all
want Torell here. So however we have to handle that.
I mean, the only other option is just to bring
them up. So, you know, he's been a good addition.
He's been prepared for his opportunities, helped on special teams.
He had to tackle yesterday and kick off and so
(11:17):
those are all really good things.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
I think he's a good teammate.
Speaker 3 (11:21):
And so yeah, I think that that's only probably procedural
at the end of the week.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
Thanks guys,
