Speaker 1 (00:01):
Friday, Thank Karen. How were you well? Can you give
us the lowdown?

Speaker 2 (00:11):
I didn't do that, No, I don't think so he said,
I'm well and then just went on in question I'm great. Uh,
Terrell Jennings will be out and spilling will be questionable.
Do you have a follow up? I do?

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Coming off of five week, how did you feel practices
this week?

Speaker 1 (00:34):
And were you happy with the energy and everything?

Speaker 2 (00:38):
You know, I felt like, uh, Monday got us going.
It was a good day for us to get back
in and kind of compete and go against it, you know,
just ourselves and not have to you know specifically you know,
have worked through show teams or anything like that. So
I thought that was good and got us back going
and then try to build throughout the week. And yesterday

(01:00):
was was good. And today you know, tried to just
finish up a little bit on field preparation and you know,
still have plenty of work to do with meetings and
stuff tomorrow, but again, continue to try to build throughout
the week and you know, see if we can't build
that momentum going into the game. Jared Wilson was hired

(01:21):
up to do the huge still and sincinaty past practice
this week.

Speaker 4 (01:24):
Just how fortunate is it for them and beat fiftema
and there was as serious as maybe it looked.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Easonsly, Yeah, I don't again it however, you know, sometimes
it's you know, appears to be one thing and you
kind of you know, see how it goes and doesn't
end up being as bad. Or sometimes it's you know,
every injury is different. But again, I I'm glad that

(01:52):
the way that the players that have been out have
worked to get back in there. Jared is in that
group obviously, you know, and so it'd be a good
to have him back in there. Was continuing to improve
and uh and again I don't want any of them
to get injured, and if they are, I hope it's
not as serious as what it looks when it happens.

Speaker 5 (02:12):
We didn't see Christian Barmer out there and start to practice.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
Any update or costs for concern there. I know he's
been out for uh not.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Yeah, those are just you know, my decision to bring
him out towards the end of practice and so, you know, nothing,
no concern there. He'd to have an injury designation or
from some for the game. But you know, just yeh,
that's kind of how I chose to handle it today.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Running back three spot.

Speaker 5 (02:42):
I guess that's my words out with Terrell.

Speaker 4 (02:44):
Just how do you envision filling that role?

Speaker 1 (02:47):
Yeah, Dearnest, will.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
You know, probably get to the game and help us
and you know, we'll have to figure some things out
now and this afternoon or tomorrow from the roster.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
Might go back to the spring. I'm curious when you
I can barely remember yesterday. It give me the whole year.

Speaker 5 (03:09):
But when you're thinking about how to build the culture
of toughness, aside from you know, getting players of individually
a good play demeter and our topic.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
That's probably that's the best way. I don't know, you know,
I mean it's like sometimes they either are they aren't.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
You know, and again you can find ways to you know,
sometimes you can harness the power of the elite and
the like we say that some of the players can
help each other work through things or overcome, you know,
help them fight through injuries or get back quicker or

(03:48):
I think that's probably the biggest way to build your culture,
just getting the right people and then maybe you know,
then they get to their behavior, you know, lead to
the culture that you want, and so you know, that's
probably the easiest way. When you're talking about toughness, it's yeah,

(04:09):
that's probably the easiest way.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
I might well with overtimes group changed.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
How does it act you were thinking you win the
point toss is a previum position.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
To keep, uh, probably more of an in game one.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
But you know those are things that we have to
you know, to look at with the rules and you know,
the time in the regular season versus how they play,
how is overtime played and in the postseason. So the
only one we can worry about now is the regular season.
You know, both teams get an opportunity to possess it,
so you know, but that could be something where you know,

(04:47):
end game that you would want to try to change
based on you know, wind or anything else.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
I know, you guys are focus on the Bills.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
But Philip Rivers coming back and played against some almost
years ago, many thoughts on him.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
I don't. I mean, I always love playing against him.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
A competitor, you know, great for this league and.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
You know, see how it goes, making it come out.
Nobody wants to see that.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
Working on a future story about which one of the
guys in the locker room right now would make the
best coach. Winsday decided to A lot of guys have
talked about Jack Gibbons, Jeremy Springer. One if you had
thought is that you see a guy in that locker
room might be a good coach.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
So well, I mean, I think that there's a lot
of guys that that could or would and.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
You know, make different impacts. I mean, certainly, uh, you know,
Gibby has.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
Great knowledge and communicates, and I think that, you know,
I think Marcus Jones could be a you know, a
guy that could you.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
Know, coach and play.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
And you know, there's just a lot of guys I mean,
I think k C, I think Harold, I think that
you know, I mean, these guys that it's not all
about just knowing football as being a coach. It's about
finding the right way to reach players and knowing sometimes
how much to give them and how much not to

(06:21):
give them, and just you know, depending on what level
you're talking about coaching, I mean, you can make an
impact a lot of different ways coaching. So and and again,
anybody that I've coached or played, and again, there are
a lot of guys out there that you know, gone
on to coaching at different levels and trying to stay

(06:42):
in touch with them, and you know, somebody helped me
progress and become a coach, so you're trying to do
the same thing in the lot.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
We've seen upon Nelson Williams and Bill Campbell both walking around.
They seem very involved with the teams.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
Still say being on our what does that say?

Speaker 3 (07:00):
Just have them as involved.

Speaker 4 (07:02):
As they are for when they are potentially ready to
come back.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
Yeah, we'll get him back.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
You know, we have a plan for each guy, and
again I appreciate them being good with the plan that
we have and talking about being in the meetings and
then getting out of meetings early, go to rehab so
that there's some timing and we're not overloading the training room.
And then usually a week before they can start practicing,
we'll get them into meetings full time and you know,
kind of go from there and see whether that's at

(07:29):
three weeks or that's at five or six weeks.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
What.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
It's all different, But that's kind of how we, you know,
plan it out. With players that are on injured reserves.

Speaker 4 (07:40):
Across the league, it feels like it feels like more
common to see like defensive player country country bit more
on the offensive side than the other way around. Right,
you did itself as a tight end tongue, Marcus Joolms
will play on the offensive side. What do you think
that makes easier or were unnatural for that transition for
the defensive player.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
Yeah, I think that's great, you know.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
I mean there's only like I wouldn't see, you know,
too many offensive linemen going over there and playing defensive line.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
I mean receivers.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
I'm certainly not going to go over there and tackle
anybody or want to hit anybody. Maybe a few, but
they talk a good game. Yeah, I just think it
probably I don't know, I hadn't really thought of that much.
You know, it just was a specific role. You know,

(08:36):
you try not to give them too much. You know,
maybe defensive guys are just better than offensive.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
On all those two.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
If you've done the production meetings with the networks before games,
that is.

Speaker 4 (08:50):
This one sort of fun when JJ is part of that.

Speaker 5 (08:53):
Given your past history, I think, yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
You know, and you know, I've as got a lot
of respect for JJ the player, and you know, the
person and the job that he does. And you know,
I think just hearing from former players about what we're
doing and what they see. I think that's always a
good perspective, you know, to think that, hey, we're heading
in the right direction and they kind of see what

(09:17):
we're trying to do.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
So, you know, that was good. The conversation that we had.

Speaker 5 (09:23):
Having one of the lower pass ratings against the blitz
as a rookie and now having one of the best
of this season.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
I helped, you see in that area of his tame
and grow and what's allowed it.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
To be so much more probably just patience, you know,
patients and you know, nowhere where he wants to go
with the ball. I think the receivers have all helped
him out and you know, done a good job. I
think the protection, you know, it starts with the protection
and making sure that you know, he's putting.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
Guys where he wants him so he know, you know,
I mean a quarterback knows, you know, if he's hotter
if he's not hot.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
And you know, running backs have got to be able
to protect and pick up blitzers and you know then
that's not pentican and taking off and running and staying
and transitioning and transferred up into the pocket. Like one
of the biggest critiques of this team over the last
two years has been a lack of discipline, at least
by the penalties against Metu.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
If you look at that this year, it's much a
groove in the positive direction. What would you adiet, ye,
I don't know, I mean is penalties.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
That's I don't really have the time on a Friday
afternoon to get in and talk about discipline as it
relates to penalties.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
Like but but.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
Again, I think that there's penalties that we have to
be very conscious of andill make great decisions and you know,
and discipline of jumping off side and a lot of
scrimmage and you know, but I also see guys that
line up off sides and it's not called, and then
some other team lines up maybe off side and it
gets called in the inconsistency, So it's like, well, the

(10:49):
discipline or what they you let a player get away
with or you know, again, we try to show them
the rules. We try to tell them the play aggressive
within the rules, and so not going to compare this
to that or the discipline. Because we had penalties you
know early in the season, that's kind of settled down,

(11:10):
you know, maybe we're you know, figuring it out a
little bit, But I just you know, again, you just
try to teach the rules and teach them kind of
what the officials are looking at to try to get
you know, the mechanics of what they're going through or DPI.
If I'm not playing the ball, you know, if you're

(11:32):
face guarding, there's contact and we teach the receivers to
go back.

Speaker 1 (11:36):
If the guy's not playing the ball.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
So I don't know, it's there's a fine line between
the discipline of it and you know, being aggressive, but
it certainly the pre stint penalties, uh can hurt and
are sometimes hard to overcome against a good team.

Speaker 1 (11:51):
So I don't know whatever happened before.

Speaker 5 (11:54):
I got here, Mike, and you played you know, most
of your defensive three quarter nick a little in a
lot of pace against the team that to throw to
the tight ends and obviously runs the ball. Curious, just
your thoughts and playing the free safety is maybe a
way to split the difference given how Dallas played covers
this year.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Well, yeah, I'm sure that we have a lot of
different ways, and you know, kincaid and knocks, we'll all
be you know, tough, and then we know how haws
blocks and.

Speaker 1 (12:19):
What he can do, so, you know we'll have to.

Speaker 2 (12:22):
You have to certainly defend, you know, the tight ends
that you played really well for these guys.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
Thanks, have a great prin He's like
