Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're sharing any of your candy. Maybe okay, what you got?
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Two profile players have made trade request from their team,
lu being very floor and the other.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
People like are should their respective teams honor those trade requests?
Speaker 4 (00:23):
Like you, Karen Iman, I got to comment on players
that are under contract and on other teams. Let's focus
on the ones that are here that we're working with, you.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (00:37):
We see all these things happen in the National Football League,
whether it's the off season, whether it's before the season starts.
So you know, everybody's you know, working with different situations.
So those respective players and respective teams will focus on
their situations and we'll focus on ours.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
You guys do.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
Still have the most kind of salary caps basically, just
how do you view that level flexibility at this siege.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
In the season.
Speaker 4 (01:04):
I mean, it's just, you know, if something were to
present itself that we would be able to, you know,
do some things.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
So you know, right now, we're focused on the roster
that we have. Yeah, I think we.
Speaker 4 (01:19):
Tried to be as close to the plan as we
we could going through free agency and how we wanted
to allocate it over the you know, the next two years.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
Counting this year and next year. When we look at
the cap going out over two years.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
We just spent a lot of time the last years
so much in one of the ones in between the
office and be entertained that each player is in different
stages in the world development. How much of that is
about if we didn't have versus maybe flying.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
Something new, look well and try to touch on this before.
And I think those are great opportunities to practice and
to work on things, and then does it translate to
to the team periods. I think those are the ones
that you know, are the ones that are critical. I
think that there's you know, the ability to find the
(02:10):
quarterback and you know as he moves around in the
pocket or he climbs the pocket. So there's all different
ways to be able to evaluate the one on ones.
But you certainly want to have great technique. You want
to be sound and what you're doing stay inside out
as an offensive lineman. You don't want to be able
to pressure edges and reduce surface area as a defensive
(02:32):
lineman and bend in corner. So you know, we take
all those reps seriously, but that is an opportunity to
work on some things and some different sets, right, we
have different sets based on different plays that we're running offensively, So.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Those are all things that go into it. You think
about the final fifty three man roster, how does players
special teams contributions play.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
Into those final decisions?
Speaker 4 (02:54):
And is there anything in your eyes that players can
specifically do on special teams during training camp? Kind of well,
I think that the kickoff, you know, we talk about
special teams, it's going to be the kickoff and the
kickoff return are going to be critical phases, uh this
year with the with the rule change, and so who
can who can protect on a kickoff return? Who can
return a kickoff and you help us create field position.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
You know, there's just not going to be a ton
of touchbacks.
Speaker 4 (03:22):
I would I would imagine certain situations, but you know,
who can do that on those phases without fallon or
creating a penalty. It's going to be something to look at.
You know, critical the punt team is and special teams
in general. Guys that can return, guys that can put
their you know, have the ability to go and block
the block a punt is a unique skill.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
And I think that.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
All our players and those positions that are tight end linebacker,
outside linebacker, some receivers, running backs, safeties. They all know
the importance of special teams, and you have to kind
of strike a good balance between those premium special teams
players the maybe some players that you want to develop
(04:06):
at a position they may be a backup and where
they're at as a special teams.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
Have you?
Speaker 3 (04:13):
How do you approach tonight's sky stadium practice.
Speaker 4 (04:16):
The des So just real quick out for tonight MATC Collins, Gonzo, Davis, White, Low,
Brad Berry, Gibson, Tvy, Farmer and City. So those players
won't be participating uh in tonight's deal, real quick, just
(04:40):
so I'd probably nip this in the butt here. The
Blue team's head coaches at core offensive coordinator will be
Josh McDaniels. The White team's head coaches Thomas Brown, an
offensive coordinator, and Terrell Williams will be the defensive coordinator.
On the White team, blue captains Drake, Christian Ellis and
(05:01):
Jalen Hawkins. The White captains Hunter, Henry Real Peppers and
Brendan Schooler.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
So try to approach it as close to a game
as we can.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
We have special teams, we'll get punt in football, we'll
punt return. We'll have returners back there. We'll have a
couple of full field covers, we'll have some plus fifty,
we'll have some different kicking situations, and then just see.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
Where you know, put the ball, move it. And we
have officials.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
So there's things that I need to try to create
and may extend drives with the phantom illegal contact or
roughing the passer that probably hopefully didn't happen in the
night's practice, but I've already told the team those are
things that may happen so that we can continue to
(05:48):
get whatever we need to get done, get some red zone,
get some end of game two minutes, and really just
have fun. We had a draft. Those coaches drafted and
there was a coin flip, and I'll let you figure
out who won the coin flip and go from there.
So the players are excited to split the coaches up.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
And.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
Me and Stretch are the only ones that are impartial.
Everybody else is going against each other.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
And also about getting approaches some reps too in case.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
Whatever they didn't.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
Trying to have fun and you know, certainly any chance
you have to call a game or make be a
play caller, we're our practices. A lot of them aren't
scripted anyway, So we do that as well throughout the preseason,
throughout training camp, and do that.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
Yeah, players like it. You know, we'll see some trick plays.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
So we'll see what works and if we can carry
through the season. They both sides were drawing up. I
give them two trick.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
Plays each that they'll come up with that we haven't
run this thus far in camp.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
I let the coaches pick.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
I let Zach and Thomas pick who they thought based
on them being the head coach for tonight.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
So people might look.
Speaker 5 (07:13):
At the offensive line, and obviously those guys might not
work with each other every single day. But from a
coaching standpoint, when you're evaluating how important candies like to be,
when you're watching an individual product.
Speaker 4 (07:23):
Who can communicate, who can work with somebody that maybe
they didn't work with in previous practices. I'm not sure
how many lineups stay the same throughout the course of
a seventeen game schedule. So I think this is a
great opportunity for these guys to have fun, to compete,
to have some energy to do it in our stadium.
This is all new for everybody here. Pregame opportunity to
(07:46):
go out and go through that operation before we play Washington,
and just want to be intentional, but also want to
have fun and let these guys go and play and
have the officials here. So I think it'll be a
I'm hoping for a good night's been your.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
Left guard in the tast couple of practices. Curious, isn't
too early.
Speaker 5 (08:04):
To say if he's won that competition, what has he
done to earn that start?
Speaker 1 (08:07):
Well, No, I don't think it's.
Speaker 4 (08:11):
And nothing set in stone with the roster the lineup,
but certainly want to give Jared the opportunity that he's deserved,
which I think is to be out there with the
ones in the last couple of days and going forward
into next week. I think we talked about the players
don't participate in practice, but have the ability to stay
(08:34):
engage with the installation and stay up with the installation,
and he did that through the spring.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
Right.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
I wasn't able to be out there physically, but it
was able to learn all the interior line positions and
then really got off to a good start here in
training camp.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
So try to tell the team that.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
Take advantage of your opportunities and you get more opportunity
as far.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
It seems like you spend most of your time with
the offense. For instance, you're on the scout team against
the offense. Just one the reasoning for that is that
consistent with what you didn't Tennessee.
Speaker 4 (09:14):
You know, I think it's probably a way for me
to continue to learn this system so that I can
that I can coach it and be an asset I think,
and try to help, you know, just as we install
and very familiar with what what we're doing defensively, and
(09:36):
then try to give a defensive perspective to what we're
doing offensively.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
And you know, and I try to get around as
much as possible.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
I think that that group period, you know, just gives
me a chance to kind of see how things are running,
and the defense may have, you know, other things that
they're doing in adjustments. But that's kind of what I've done,
I would say in the past. I think that's probably consistent.
But I do try to get them to be everywhere
(10:07):
and to see every position or talk to every position.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
That may change. But I mean, I think it's probably consistent.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
Charity or really enough tackle two bogiss life before of necessity.
Maybe those are the two guys, guys who what allows
what's given you the inside and that you think these
two guys can kill.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
That's three players.
Speaker 4 (10:37):
They've earned the right to be out there, whether they're
twenty years old or forty. I don't, you know, I
mean that doesn't we look at whether they can play
and whether they've earned the right.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
To be out there. And I think that those two have.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
Right now, you've seen Betton Brown kind of rise to
the opportunity of that next stand on the mentality to I.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Think he's an improved player.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
I think that he came in mid season in here
and had to play and did a decent job. And
I think he put the work in and I think
that these padded practices I've seen him improve. And so
again you're excited for those players that that have improved
through the spring and that we're here in the spring
or whatever. And gave him to training camp ready to go,
(11:21):
and quickly I think once the pads guy came on,
I think Ben kind of settled. It was good to
see him to kind of just settled down and you
don't really notice him, which is good for a center.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
Went to Truman Jones.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
I think here last year obviously, but just he seems
like he's thinking of Dana some opportunities there.
Speaker 4 (11:41):
You know, he was an off season award winner. It
worked extremely hard those bose spots outside linebacker. Uh, he's improved,
I think special teams. I think his special teams has improved.
Looking forward to seeing that uh tonight hopefully and see
some of that stuff tonight. But he's a he's a
(12:02):
smart player and who I think physically has changed his
body and is you know, on par with what those
outside linebackers look like.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
Follow up on uh Karen's question from earlier. I hope
this question is not too theoretical, but but how much
urgency do you feel to win this year? You know,
we obviously want to build a team for years to come,
but would you be willing to part with.
Speaker 3 (12:29):
Against this sort of theoretical the high pick.
Speaker 4 (12:32):
So we're not gonna you know what I mean, we
can talk about a million different things. Let's just focus
on we should feel the urgency to win every day
that we come to work. But let that be the
focus of your question. Right, you guys are in a
competitive field. Somebody gets it, you know, it breaks a
scoop or you got this story that story, it's the
same thing.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
Right we should be.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
We should want to win every single day and in
the National Football League, expectations are high and they should
be rightfully so. So we're going to prepare the football
team like that, and we're gonna try each in every
week to put a plan in front of them that
they believe in and that we believe is going to
be the best way for us to win the game
(13:12):
and then have the ability to if that one isn't
any good, to adjust as quickly as possible.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
Line specifically side of the ball that talked about the
chemistry that's developed the cut form, What did you see
from those two guys as accommodation package.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
For what And that's all we're trying to do is
bring guys together.
Speaker 4 (13:36):
They're going to be working closely with each other, that
are lining up next to each other, that communicate, that
spend a lot of time together.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
You know.
Speaker 4 (13:44):
We feel like that connection is something that is going
to help us through some of those pumps in the
road that that occur in every NFL season. And I'm
excited to where their growth is and when we get
them out there at the same time and they continue
to grow and develop and their their their connection off
(14:05):
the field.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
That will lead to very positive results for us on
the field.
Speaker 5 (14:10):
You've rotated a lot and practice is to do with
trading camp. But in terms of reps tonight, was that
up to each respect and coach or how are those decisions?
Speaker 4 (14:17):
Well, there's certain decisions that I still get to, uh
to be in charge of tonight, so that was controlled
by me. There'll be some will do more than others,
but uh, I just want to have have a good
time and get certain things accomplished and and and looked
at and put on fields. So it'll try to be similar.
Each team will kind of get the same amount of
(14:38):
snaps at the same amount of areas most likely. And
you know, I think the scoring will be like I
told the team, you want to complain about the scoring,
talk to Stretch's he's doing the score he's doing the scorekeeping,
so any score related issues, talk to Stretch.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
Thanks guys,
