Speaker 1 (00:00):
Play right.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
Uh, I know miss this game week.
Speaker 3 (00:03):
Uh, but if you remiss, if I didn't ask you,
if you had.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Any comment on I hear you out Huh.
Speaker 3 (00:11):
Bill Belichick, Bannon, your scouts from you.
Speaker 4 (00:14):
Oh No, that's a individual choice, and you know we'll
cross that bridge. You know, when we start looking at players,
I wanna focus on our football team and uh that
that's that's their prerogative, you know, to to make the
decisions that they feel like are best for them, and
then we'll have to find other ways to to get
(00:36):
the information, uh for any players that that we wanna
look at at at North Carolina.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Thank you?
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Thank you kind of status report on any of like
you don't know about out thank you. Anybody else can
questionable Rills with.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
Is there a probable yes, but Stacey will give you
the official But that's that's my stance.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
As we get to the end of the week.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
I'd just love to ask you, just coaching your first
game here, you know obviously watched your play all those years. Yeah,
I think it's gonna be about the players. I think
that's the most important thing, is to make it about
the players.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Mike.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
I appreciate you asking about me, but you know, I
think I think Jen's excited.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
I think Carter is excited. You know. So make it
about the players. I think that's the most important thing.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
They put a lot of work in, you know, we
ask a lot of them, and then I feel like
the games are their opportunity to go play, and I
want to make sure that we exemplify that, that we
give them what they need to be ready but also prepared.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Like you, you lost your last.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
Three season openers in Tennessee any sort of common thread
there or anything you adjusted four coming into the season.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
Uh, nah, I just gotta play better, you know, missed
the field goal.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Uh got boat raced by Arizona.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
You know, just play better, take care of football, you know,
win the second half. Things like that focused on. But
I mean that was you know, you look at everything
every game and they you know, again, you wanna win
'em all, and they just you know, a couple plays
in every game.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
You know.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
I don't know who the the third one was, but Giants, Giants.
We missed the field goal. I don't know what else
the other one? Saints, Yeah, can you close one?
Speaker 2 (02:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (02:44):
I couldn't stop him in for a minute. Turnovers in
the red zone. I'll do it to you like is.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
Uh Jared Wilson trending on?
Speaker 1 (02:54):
Uh to start for you have left Gardens?
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Yeah, yep, Gerald started left guarden.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
How happy to me? Just his development you know, came in,
he missed the spring.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Ly weren't hard. He worked hard and you know it
competed and.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
You know again we're gonna end up playing different combinations
of guys.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
But then Jared'll be there at Sunday, you know, the
other guys will be ready to go in there.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
I don't think the more he plays, the more the
better he'll get and improve and work and up figure
out the tricks of the trade as as it goes along.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
What do you see workman will working together as to
work duds on that left side.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
I mean there's be things that they do really well.
Speaker 4 (03:34):
There's things that they you know again are seeing and
you know that's uh, that's part of playing young guys.
And I want him to have fun. I want him
to enjoy it and understand the mistakes are gonna happen
and we'll just pick it up and we'll move on
and get back to center and and and go play
the next play and not not worry about being perfect.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Just focus on being precise.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
Like Josh was here telling us yesterday that he learned
something he knew every day from you. I'm curious, from
the coach that you knew before this year, where do
you see any kind of changes or growth with him
as a coach.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
I mean, I think he's a great teacher. I think
he's a great teacher.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
I think, you know, the way that the connection with
the players, again, it's a fine line to try to
hold guys accountable to to what we need to get done,
but also having a connection with him, you know, and
I've think seeing that man right now, we're all, you know,
I think in a good place. I mean, we're we're
(04:34):
undefeated like everybody else are except for one team. And
you know, I just you know, I appreciate the staff.
I I want to publicly say that I appreciate the staff,
you know, helping me do this and getting us to
this point. You know, I don't we don't do any
of this by ourselves. And you know, there's a lot
of people who evolved from the training room, the equipment room, operations,
(04:59):
player engaged, you know, each of those departments, and then
the coaching staff that that gets these players ready, and
then we'll continue to get them ready throughout the season,
and the ones that come in on Tuesday, they get
signed that end up playing for us. It's just part
of the National Football League and can't thank them enough
for being on this journey with me.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
You expect Alex Austin to fill in for.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
Christ or yeah, I mean I think Alex will double
a will play. I think Marcus will play, and you know,
everybody's got to be ready to go.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Mike, regarding an early goal that you stated of being
good enough to take care advantage of bad football, how
much closer do you think you guys are?
Speaker 4 (05:42):
Another day? Another day closer until we get to the games.
That's really all that matters. And I don't mean to,
you know, make light of the question. I just we're
another day closer to find it out, because you know,
really what happens on Sunday is going to start to dictate.
You know, have we gotten it? We learned and we
understand how critical some of these things are and when
(06:04):
they advantages, the opportunities are there to be able to
take advantage of them.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
We're very season openers that you were part of as
a coach horror player.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Where a team came out in something that you just
did not expecting. Now to make him getting an adjustments too.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
I mean, I'm sure in twenty five years of this league,
I'm sure there has been. I mean my first my
first game was an eight hour game that had two
two hour lightning delays in Miami. We lost that one too,
a touchdown got called back on a holding penalty. Greg So, uh,
it was an eight hour, eight hour game in in Miami,
so they don't really prepare you for that, but we managed.
(06:41):
We beat the Texans in next week with a backup
quarterback and everything else. So you know, just whatever they
throw at you, we'll be ready. Try to try to
make adjustments as we go. We were buying pizzas on
a third deck cause the players were hungry and in
between the lightning delays. Or do you prefer to stick
(07:03):
with three guys most of the time or you would.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
Like to make the match and I think you receive.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
During the game. Well, I mean I think everybody will play,
you know, I mean that's active. I would imagine everybody's
gonna play, and everybody's got their package and things that
they're doing. So yeah, just making sure that everybody's uh
has a role in the football game. Like when you
were doing the tellustrator when Scott's whole lot you diagramming Treyons.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
Kicked the off the turn.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
You know that you know, if you're not to put.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
Three players off the straining how much have then changes
this year?
Speaker 2 (07:39):
Kind of affective configuration personnel? Y also know the two
money backs back there.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
Yeah, I mean, I I don't know how much that's
gonna really dictate. I think maybe a little bit. But
you know, they still get on you pretty quick. You
still have to to be able to cover them up.
And again some of the rule changes were for player safety.
The offer turn was was getting peeled, and some of
that was just by a scheme that guys were putting
the off returner on a five or you know, one
(08:07):
of the five screaming down the middle.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
Of the field.
Speaker 4 (08:09):
So I was shocked there wasn't more injuries people were
running that scheme. So just trying to understand how some
of these guys are kicking, and they're kicking the kicks
that try to land short in between the twenty and
the goal line, or are they landing at the goal
line and making you make a decision or they they
landing there at the eight and trying to get a
shorter kick.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
So however they do that, we'll have to adjust to it.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
And you know even you know, there was a penalty
last night, you know, guys, they kickers started in and
Philly tried to move and there's a penalty. So just
knowing the rules and understanding the things that we can
and can't do.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Going into the steam for the practice is there? What's
the us?
Speaker 4 (08:48):
We hadn't been in there in a while, you know,
I just felt like that'd be a good opportunity for
us to get into the stadium again since we hadn't
been in there since, uh, you know the first preseason.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
Like the new Chips run on the offense over there,
do you see or expects more?
Speaker 2 (09:08):
You know what he ran more last year.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
Ohio State new personne or do you have a sense
that you know he's working for Pete Carroll and how
Pete wants for an offense.
Speaker 4 (09:14):
It's probably won't uh, probably a little bit about you
know what I mean. I guess I could guess and
guess wrong and you'd say I was wrong.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
I I think there's gonna be.
Speaker 4 (09:24):
A little blend of everything and stuff that he's done
and has liked, and the things that the head coach
wants to do, and stuff that he did in the
NFL that he liked, and stuff that the quarterback liked.
So I I really don't have a a perfect answer
for you because I don't know unless you know, I mean,
you know something.
Speaker 2 (09:42):
I don't you. What do you think is about the
scheme day OUTA me, No, I don't. I don't know.
I'm not much into the to the walk up. I
guess
