Speaker 1 (00:00):
Once again, and the coach is here. Good morning, how

(00:02):
are you? Good morning, great to see you, and uh
time for us to do our our victory shot here
with the coach. This is pure green. Uh Tyanne Pepper,
wake me up shot coach. Congratulations it's five in a row,
number six on the season. Mm hmmm mm hmm. All

(00:23):
right there you go right down the hatch. That gets
you going, gets you fired up, doesn't.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
It wake me up?

Speaker 1 (00:31):
It is a wake me up shot.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Give Courtney another one? Ready, you want another one? Baby?

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Baby, he's started moving, let's get it.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
You're really going to be moving now.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Yeah, really taking struggle.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
It's a little early to get them type shots.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Huh. Well, listen you you talked a little talked a
little bit about it post game, but again, kind of
a slow start this team. He can seemed to be
able to count on him, certainly in the second half
and you dominate. But I know that's something you probably
want to focus on.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
We get him to third and long and then you know,
we get picked and you know, really just not being
very aware and you know, you got to keep playing
and then they know over aggressive and slip the full
back out of there.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
So it was a good.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
Design on their part, and you know, we have to
you know, play the complete game, and we're always going
to find things to improve on, and so you know,
hopefully that we can you know, start a little faster
and then finish in the red zone.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
I think that's that's really.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
You know, to be two or six, that's not gonna
win a whole lot of games.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
We've got to score touchdowns when we get down there. Mike.

Speaker 4 (01:42):
One of the things the areas where you did do
well is you look at your your running game against
the team in the Cleveland Browns. I think they're only
giving up about seventy something yachts per game. You guys
are able to go out there rush for bucks seventy.
That's two weeks in a row where it looks like
you're really running the ball good. What do you see
it from this run game?

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Well, I thought we one. I thought we mixed the
scheme up.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
I think from some inside runs to some perimeterive runs
and then full disclosure. I think you know, the quarterback
runs helped too, you know, I mean the quarterback being
able to pull the ball down get some yards help
us in that regard. So you know, I've been through
this defensively before, where you're like, okay, the running backs

(02:24):
had fifty yards and then you give up loose plays
of the quarterback for sixty five yards to scrambles and
you're like, well, we didn't really practice any of those.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
Defending the run and.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Fitting it and tackling it wasn't like a scheme run.
So I think just being able to use those numbers.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
And improve on it.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
So where did we have you know, did we have
some guy everybody blocked and did we break some tackles
or did we miss some blocks where we loose on
the combos? You know all that stuff, And then numbers
are good, we just have to look at how we're executing.
Where did we maybe miss a cut or did we
not get the force on some of the perimeter plays

(03:03):
or things like that. And I and I think we
did a good job. And I think there's a lot
more there that we can do. But I did think
that we mixed some of the inside runs and some
of the perimeter runs.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
Well, yesterday, speaking of Drake running the football, you were
busting his balls a little bit postgame about sending him
to spring training to learn how to slide. Yeah, did
he do you feel like he did better when it
came to that yesterday partecting?

Speaker 2 (03:26):
I mean, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
I mean again, we you know he's he's dead, dead
set on on on hurdling somebody and scorn from sixty
yard touchdown run. So we'll keep working on it. I'm
gonna get a cardboard box like we did in fifth
grade back in the Saint Michael's in the in the
Catholic Dias in Baseball League.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
We got a.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
Refrigerator box and we cut it open and we taught
to the kids that didn't know how to slide how
to slide.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
So we're going to practice slide.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
Great coaching back there by by Mike Mulligan back in
the day.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Well, I mean that's the key thing, though, is keep
protecting him, right, Yeah, when he's the cowboard box of
break dancing back.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
And I would have loved to see breakdance.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
They called it when he was doing it. They called
it break dancing because he would break things when he
fell on them.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
It's pretty good. I bet.

Speaker 5 (04:20):
Mike Miles Garrett had some nice things to say about
Will Campbell after the game. How do you think that
he did in this one?

Speaker 3 (04:26):
Well, I think that, Uh could you know, I mean
that's a tough test, and that's tough challenge and uh,
you know, I think Will has uh, you know, high
expectations of himself and wants to do well and some
of these challenges in this league are difficult, and uh,
playing Miles Garrett is one of those. And you know,
so again there was a plays that he'd like to

(04:46):
have back and being able to understand, you know, each
and every week that those matchups.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
Change and the play styles changed.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
So, uh, he'll continue to improve and he'll continue to
work and he's been a consistent available player for us
and he's helped us win here in the last couple
of weeks.

Speaker 6 (05:04):
Mike, the teams the last several years appeared to look
for a reason to lose. Where it feels like this
team is seeking reasons to win. Have you noted this
sort of confidence? It felt like they may have been
more emotionally fragile in recent years. The team right now
down a touchdown, not playing great early in a game.
At no point did I feel like you guys were
going to capitulate. Have you noticed that in the way

(05:25):
that this team reacts to adversity.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
Well, first, you're going to have to explain that word
to me, and WIGGI capitulated.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
Yeah, when he says those big words, I just kind
of turned it on.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
But I do no, no, no, I think that that's uh.
You know, that's what you have to have. You have
to have a resolve in this league and in life.
And if you choose this business, you're going to be
on a team. You're going to have some success. You
may not have success. You get released, you get traded,
you get cut. You got to fight to make a
roster spot. You're on a practice squad, you're trying to

(05:57):
fight to get up, and that has to translate to
our teams and the way that we approach this and
you know, there's the ups and downs and just keep
fighting and keep competing and make a play. And you
know we've gone back to this in Miami.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
Just make one.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
Play and see see what happens after that. But yeah,
we're we can't really panic and understand how long these
games are and the plays that can help to find
the game aren't going to be in the first or
second series.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
Nice to get Steph Diggs's touchdown yesterday.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
Yeah, yeah, it was great.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
I mean he's been and again, I got the guys
all joke about it, and he's I think been you know.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
Wanting that and we want that for him.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
But you know, he's been been a really consistent performer
for us, so it's been good to you know, to
be able to finally get him in the end zone.

Speaker 4 (06:49):
Mike, there's always reports out there about this, and that's
so it's always best to ask you about, you know,
maybe trying to bolster you you talk about a guy
like Miles Garrett, but to bolster your side up the
defensive line, and maybe some interest in you guys looking
at that position those reports true. I mean, you feel
like you can add something there.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
I think we could try to always look to improve
our roster.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
So whether that's at every position, we're going to try
to look to improve anyway we can, Mike.

Speaker 5 (07:21):
Mike, the starting the game without Christian Barmore. You talked
about it a little bit after the game. It looked
like you guys were hugging after the game. Is it
safe to say because people will speculate that whatever happened
is in the past and you guys are moving forward.

Speaker 3 (07:35):
It just like everything else that I do, you know,
I mean, whether that's in life or whatever.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
We've moved on.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
We've addressed it and there's no issues moving forward with
with me or anybody else. I think that's just how
we have to operate. And you know, I mean excited
to get going today here with the corrections and you
get these guys moving on to the to the falcons.

Speaker 6 (07:56):
What about the introductions yesterday? You talked about it briefly.
Obviously he always tells the story of the old one
Super Bowl when you guys came out as a team.
What what went into that and was that something the
players were asking for.

Speaker 3 (08:08):
I approached it with the leadership guys on Thursday after
practice a few weeks ago, just looking to try to,
you know, bring some energy. You know, we were kind
of on the road and I was just looking ahead
and saying, hey, is this something that we want to try.
They were in favor of it, and you know, so

(08:29):
we kind of try to figure it out. We'll have
to continue to work on it like everything else we do,
and the improve it and make it as as good
as we can, as good of a product as we
can to to introduce our players and then you get
the fans excited about it.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
Drake said, he was nervous about it because he has
no swag? Would you would would you would you agree
with that or.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
That he has no swag?

Speaker 3 (08:52):
I would say that it's probably swag less of times.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
But that's why we love them.

Speaker 5 (09:00):
I like that he said, shoot every time he answers
the question, Shoot.

Speaker 4 (09:05):
Mike, yesterday, I swear a lot more than Yesterday was National.

Speaker 1 (09:09):
Tight Ends Day.

Speaker 4 (09:10):
And you look at Austin Hooper and Hunter Henry and what.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
They've You're going to talk about me and you?

Speaker 4 (09:15):
I was, I was, But I mean, let's let's you know,
you guys they're doing so well, let's keep it on them.
They've done a tremendous job all year long, whether it's
in the run game, pass game. What has that meant
to you the football team offensively and just what they
bring to the table.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
I think that they.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
You know, you don't want to be one dimensional, So
being able to play with multiple tight ends on the
field and still execute in the passing game and have
our run game out of it.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
Has been good. And those guys have worked hard.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
They've you know, some of those are tough matchups there
with the with the tight ends and the defensive ends
in this league.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
And I think that they've they've done a good job.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
Jack westover comes in and plays you know, some in
the back, plays a lot of special teams for us too.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
So that's been a good group for us.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
It's been a consistent group and be one that we'll
still continue to try to improve and help. And you know,
each week they're working on things to try to help us.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
There was some pretty loud MVP chants when it came
to Drake yesterday here. He doesn't seem like somebody that
you have to, you know, keep down at at a
certain level, but it is is that important going forward?

Speaker 3 (10:25):
Well, we got the mid season awards coming up here.
It's about that time, so they should be throwing all
those around here. We'll be lined up to accept all
those that they want to try to give us. But
I think that he's a very very important part of
our success, and I'm happy that he's having personal success.

(10:45):
He wants to continue to improve, and I think that
there's a hunger for that, and I think he sees
how important his not only performance, but just the way
that he operates and functions, how important that is to
the offense and our football team.

Speaker 5 (11:01):
As someone who sees him every single day, though, Do
you think that the fans the media is jumping the
gun or is he as good as we all believe
him to be.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
Well, I mean, I think we're really happy that he's
our quarterback.

Speaker 3 (11:15):
Being able to play with the efficiency and I know
the idea of the interception yesterday, but you know, playing
with the the efficiency that he has and the ability
to extend place his accuracy down the field is fun,
you know. I mean, I just don't want to take
things for granted, but it's like, you know it's going

(11:37):
to be the booty, and it's like hasn't even left
his hand yet, and everybody's like a touchdown touched it
as like hold our horses, Okay, touchdown?

Speaker 6 (11:47):
Mike sad week sad news over the weekend with the
passing of Nick Mangold. I know, Ohio State guys, just
what you thought of him as a competitor and just
how that hit you yesterday.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
Yeah, I've heard that, you know before thee and I
knew that, you know, obviously he was.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
You know, not doing really well.

Speaker 3 (12:05):
And I just remember going back to, you know, Ohio
State when I was playing as a young player in
the league and Nick was still there with a bunch
of those guys that would go on to play in
the NFL, and just one how talented he was, his
energy is just just this passion around all those guys
and a leader and being a center. Uh and then

(12:26):
just the career that he had, the longevity, and then
playing against him when he was with the Jets. So
condolences to his family, you know, Ohio natives, and you know,
hopefully they'll be able to to get to a place
where they can celebrate his life after, you know, after
the sadness of of the this immediate news, and hopefully

(12:47):
they can celebrate his life and his impact that he
made on Ohio State and that Dayton area and obviously
New York.

Speaker 4 (12:55):
Mike, you talked about Will Campbell and I just I
always love to get on the inside. I know you
were in Cleveland last yea. What makes Miles Garrett such
a difficult player? I mean it's probably great that Will
Campbell gets to see him and learn and kind of say, okay,
here's what I need to do moving forward against everybody.
What what what makes Miles Garrett so different?

Speaker 2 (13:17):
God gave him a little extra. I mean, he's big,
he's fast, he's.

Speaker 3 (13:21):
Explosive, he's athletic, he go round you through your spin,
you know, just as a great skill set and then
also an understanding you know, be able to bend and
dip and then you know, taking long strides and planting.
Rarely gets knocked off his feet.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
But he's the.

Speaker 3 (13:44):
Ability to beat double teams and to beat these chippers
that he sees. You know, it's it's impressive. So I
was saying yesterday, thank god they're not in the division
and we don't have to see him, you know, twice
unless we both make the playoffs. So he's a he's
a special player. He's been doing it for a lot
of years. And uh, they don't make too many.

Speaker 5 (14:07):
Of them though, Mike, after every game, after every win,
you always say, but we're not going to change. That's
been your constant message to the guys. What do you
mean by that?

Speaker 1 (14:14):
What is it?

Speaker 5 (14:15):
What is it about this team that you don't want
them to change, Whether you guys are want to make.

Speaker 3 (14:18):
The preparation and how we approach things and how we
correct things, and you know, how we work. You know,
we're going to work. We're going to compete on Thursday.
We're going to go fast in the red zone on Friday.
We're gonna lift, We're going to weigh in, we're going
to we're going to do things the way that we
feel like is important for us to do them and

(14:39):
not let things slide because they you know, in this league,
sometimes if you have some success, you can sometimes take a.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
Deep breath and relax and yeah, that's usually when you
get your ass.

Speaker 6 (14:52):
Kicked, Mike, when you get preparing for the trade deadline.
As an organization, how much of a role will you
have in saying, hey, we really need X or Y.
Is this a day to day conversation or is it
something where you kind of tell the front office guys,
you know, let me know when there's something to make
a decision on.

Speaker 3 (15:07):
I would say that Elliott and Ryan and myself and
Stretch have conversations every day regarding the roster. That's whether
that's before the trade deadline, after the trade deadline, those
conversations are ongoing, Mike.

Speaker 4 (15:21):
Do you find like because you brought up the little
things right, and you know, sometimes teams tend to look
over the little things or some you know, coaches maybe
say it could just be about how the locker room
looks like how important is it that you make sure
you're doing those little things the weigh ins, the lifts.
But also has it been a little bit of a
difficult kind of change to maybe get players to buy

(15:44):
into some of the little things that they feel like,
why are we doing that? It doesn't make any sense?
But the bigger picture is more about buying in.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
No, I don't think that that's been an issue, you know,
And I don't.

Speaker 3 (15:55):
I think that you we want to be intentional, and
I'm okay explaining things if guys have questions why, I'm
okay explaining why and why. The little things matter because
they become big things. And if you let one thing slide,
it's like your kids. You tell one kid to be
home by midnight and he's not home at midnight and
you don't do anything. Well, then the other one thinks, well,

(16:17):
then I can come home whenever I want, and then
it leads to something else. And I think being consistent
is important. And No, but the buy in, I don't
think the buyan's been any issue.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
You know.

Speaker 3 (16:30):
I think that people want structure. I think people want
a sense of unity and you know, making sure that
everybody's being held accountable and you know again that hasn't
been any.

Speaker 2 (16:43):
Sort of issue.

Speaker 3 (16:45):
But we have to, you know, keep doing those things
and the way we prepare, you know, I mean about changing.
It's just that they we're going to how we practice
and how we prepare.

Speaker 1 (16:54):
Halloween is Friday letter grade for mccollins costume.

Speaker 2 (16:58):
Yesterday you get to see it.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
What was it like? It was a bishop from a
from a chess. That's why he was walking diagonally because
the bishop can only move.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
I had no idea what it was and was what
is this?

Speaker 1 (17:13):
He's always he's always interesting guy for the feet?

Speaker 2 (17:17):
What it is for the feet? Mac Hacks?

Speaker 5 (17:20):
I wonder what is high?

Speaker 2 (17:24):
I'm sure he could do better. I'm sure he's got
better costumes in there.

Speaker 1 (17:28):
Is there a party that? Is there a team Halloween party?
Have you been invited?

Speaker 3 (17:32):
I guess there's a friends and there's a kids in
family one Tuesday at four o'clock there for players, kids
and you dressing up? Yeah, okay, you got to figure
out what we're going to go as.

Speaker 1 (17:47):
Yeah, something?

Speaker 3 (17:48):
Yeah, but that away was like that everybody you see
the kids come through and they go through the offices
and decorate the offices and then they go back in
the back. It's pizza and candy jumpies and it's a
good it's a good afternoon.

Speaker 4 (18:03):
Feel like, if you don't know what to go is
just go as a football player, I feel like a
lot of kids jump out.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
Yeah, as an official, you got you got a little
heated yesterday on that old call. Did you did you
object to that on the hold?

Speaker 2 (18:23):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (18:24):
Uh, I saw the second half.

Speaker 3 (18:27):
Yeah it was second half. Probably, I don't know, I
don't remember anything. Oh yeah, Carlton Davis. Yes, yeah, I mean.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
Yeah, step process, two step process. That's what they what
it's supposed to be.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
See the infraction, look back in the pocket and make
sure the quarter.

Speaker 2 (18:46):
Oh, the ball's actually already been thrown.

Speaker 4 (18:52):
How much of the information, like do they say, like,
all right, this is what we're looking at, We're trying
to do this, Like because I feel like I'm not
in this, so I don't like, No, there's.

Speaker 3 (19:01):
No conversations about those like that happened on the other
side of this. Guy just happens to be sitting here.
There's nothing he can do. Fifty fifty three yards wedge
somebody to yell at, right, and then schoolers face mask penalty.

Speaker 7 (19:16):
Yeah, that was weird. I know he was getting face masked.
Did they send me at did you get a video
on that one? You in Stretch, No video, it's not
it's seven in the morning.

Speaker 2 (19:29):
I don't think they are.

Speaker 1 (19:31):
In advance. They figured it's a specific video on that one.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
Send a couple.

Speaker 4 (19:36):
How many videos do you Stretch send though?

Speaker 2 (19:38):
You guys, we don't send them no more.

Speaker 3 (19:41):
No, I mean they send out the videos, we watch
them and it's been it's a good communication.

Speaker 2 (19:47):
And again it's you.

Speaker 3 (19:48):
Know, those those fouls are supposed to be looked at
or can be looked at and replay assist. And the
one thing is is if they call a penalty, if
there's any contact that a face mask, it stays on
the Yeah, it's like, is that really what the what
we want? If it's not, But listen, we just keep
playing and try to play by the rules. And they

(20:11):
have a tough officials have a tough job. It's a
fast game and they do a nice job.

Speaker 6 (20:16):
And you're six and two here. I had a schedule.
According to many people, I had him at ten wins.
Greg didn't believe in you.

Speaker 1 (20:21):
I had nine ones. I've always believed in him, but
always had six. Always believed him. Who's that producer station?

Speaker 2 (20:28):
But he's right right now. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
He also gives Josh McDaniel zero credit for the development
of Rick May.

Speaker 2 (20:38):
That's a that's a lie.

Speaker 1 (20:39):
I don't say zero.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
I just say not as much as other people. That's all.
I didn't know this guy was allowed to talk to
the first time. I've heard him many weeks.

Speaker 1 (20:48):
Some people think you shouldn't he gets into the All
twenty two. He watches a lot of films in All
twenty two, guys, he's a film guy. Film guy, watch
a lot of trying.

Speaker 2 (20:57):
I think he played high school volleyball.

Speaker 5 (21:00):
Is the varsity soccer coach right now?

Speaker 2 (21:02):
That's right?

Speaker 6 (21:03):
How much of what you're saying now is where you
guys are obviously not going to get anything for winning
six games, but you have half the season ahead of you,
and you are the two seed right now in the AFC.
You have what I believe to be the MVP at quarterback,
you're the coach of the year. How do you keep
a level head and let them know that every year
you're not going to be able to get here. You've
been relatively healthy, you get to at this point of

(21:25):
the year, what is your messaging, Ben And has that
shifted at all with the recent success.

Speaker 3 (21:30):
Uh No, I don't think it's changed. I think it's
just stayed consistent that this league. If you sleep on
this league, that you know you're gonna you're going to
have bad results. And no matter who you play, what
team it is, there's going to be things that you
have to do each and every week, and so every
